2024.05.14 03:26 zmerlynn Policy against starfish as food?

tl;dr: Every month-ish, we’ve bought a chocolate chip starfish to feed our harlequin shrimp. Most of these came from Petco, but recently we were told they would no longer sell starfish as food. Is this company policy or just local policy?
We have an 80G saltwater reef tank with many inhabitants, but one of our favorites is our harlequin shrimp - If you’re unfamiliar, follow the link. They’re epic, alien looking shrimp, with an odd diet: They only eat starfish. We originally got it to handle pest Asterina starfish, and the harlequin did that well. We intended originally to rehome after that, but quickly grew to love our weird harlequin shrimp.
We first sourced starfish from local fish stores, usually a chocolate chip starfish every 4-6w. But we discovered pretty quickly that our local Petco had them, too, and is way more convenient than the next closest option (a difference of at least 20 minutes of driving). Plus we use Petco for dog food etc., already, so it just worked.
Previously the employees loved hearing about our harlequin - it’s always a conversation starter, and seeing videos of a small shrimp take on a bigger starfish is interesting to see. But this last weekend, the employee working the aquatics section grilled my wife on our tank (size etc.), then after hearing we were buying it for food, told her that would be the last time we’d be allowed to buy a starfish for food. This was a remarkable reversal from an aquatics manager about a year ago, who after seeing us in there a few times and asking, was excited and basically said if we kept buying chocolate chip starfish, she’d try to make sure to keep them in stock, even knowing they were food.
Is this something that is just local manager’s discretion? Or is it company policy? It’s hard to believe it’s a wide policy since Petco sells other kinds of live food like crickets. (Crickets are actually far more advanced life than starfish, at that!)

2024.05.14 03:19 Gijoejoegut SWAFAN EX14 ARGB fans not lighting up or spinning

Good day,
I preface this question to mention I have already emailed tech support for both Gigabyte and Thermaltake.
I figured the reddit community is the only other option. I am trying to run six TT SWAFAN EX14 ARGB fans on my PC. The motherboard is GIGABYTE B760M AORUS ELITE X AX. The mobo BIOS version is F2 (whatever that means). None of the fans are doing anything which makes me very nervous. I hope someone has seen this and can provide a fix. Every other component works in the system except for these fans.
Case: TT Tower 300
VGA: Gigabyte RTX 4090 AERO
RAM: 4x 16G TT Toughram 6000
AIO: TT TH420 V2 Ultra ARGB Sync (the stock fans work when plugged in but I changed these to SWAFANs
Please ask if you need more info for clarification.
Thanks

2024.05.14 03:10 Full-Roof1492 Should I borrow from my 401k or not?

Hey there! I've been diligently tackling my credit card debt lately. I'm tired of getting buried under high interest rates, especially with the current economy. As a result, I haven't been able to save anything; every penny goes towards paying off debt. Most of it stems from emergencies like car repairs, hospital trips, and helping with my grandma's and father's funerals. I'm seeking advice on how to reduce my debt payments slightly so I can start building up savings without being overwhelmed by interest. Any suggestions?
Bank of America CC debt - $18,304 APR 26.24% Minimum: $568 Target CC - $700 Minimum:$35 Rent - $2116
Credit score: 650 Monthly income : $3,416 Monthly Debt : $ 2,719 Take home : $697 😔
I also have the option to sell around $7,000 worth of stock. I had been saving that for emergencies or potentially as a down payment for a house (though that's unlikely to happen). However, I'm considering taking out a $20,000 loan at 9.5% interest. The bi-weekly payment would be $232.08, facilitated through my 401k partner at work. Realistically, I wouldn't even notice the $230 deducted from my paycheck before I receive it. Is this a risky move, or does anyone have any other insights? I'm open to suggestions. Apologies in advance, as I'm not very savvy with finances. I used to rely on my dad for this, but he’s the one that passed.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 02:53 Hopeful_Comb1648 Should I sell, replace parts, or gucci upgrade?

I bought a very used full size p320 and it started having 2-3 failure to extract malfunctions on every magazine. The empty brass would stay in the chamber and extractor would not grab it, leaving a scrape on the rim. It’s the early model and has been sent to Sig for the trigger fix.
What are my options to restore reliability? A new model goes for $499, and complete (factory) slide assemblies seem hard to find in stock. I wouldn’t mind replacing the entire grip module either, because the finish is worn on the controls from use and I got 1 failure to lock back on empty in my 75 test rounds.
Backstory is I bought it from a friend who bought it as is for dirt cheap. He never put many rounds through it. This is my 1st 9mm so I wouldn’t mind having one to teach friends, work on my shooting, and use just for the range. But it seems like my friend got it for so cheap because it needs a complete overhaul and now I’m stuck deciding if I should let it go or bring it back to life. It would be nice to have a 9mm with reliability I can trust.

2024.05.14 02:53 Upset_Scallion_5210 Option Pricing Overcompensating?

Looking at $INSM options expiring June 21, 2024. Cash Secured puts or Bear Put Spreads look very appealing, to lose money the stock would have to move down over 55% with the CSP and over 45% for the put spread. This looks like an amazing deal what am I missing, I feel like this is being greatly overpriced. I priced the levels on the chart to show how dramatic the drop would be within the 31 days.

2024.05.14 02:45 Individual_Depth_249 American looking to move to Italy

Recently me and my girlfriend have been interested in moving to another country. Italy has been our main interest. We have a few assets such as vehicles and a townhome we can sell to afford moving there and hopefully sustain until we have things figured out. I plan on continuing trading stock options if we were to move. I've been researching the different visas you can get there and how you can apply for residency but I have a few questions which maybe people with some experience can answer.
  1. What type of visa could we get with our current situation? We don't plan on going to school and don't have any job offers although eventually, we would be interested in getting a job.
  2. How difficult is it to get residency there?
  3. Would it be better for us to get married in the States before moving or when we are settled in our new home?

2024.05.14 02:19 DarkBloodyFoxy SER6 PRO NVMe heatsink upgrade -10°C min

SER6 PRO NVMe heatsink upgrade -10°C min
Now I cannot have SATA drives though but 4TB NVMe is more than enough fast storage and I have small NAS for Music.
Drive - Acer Predator GM7000 4TB Test - Crystal Disk 8 with NVMe profile, 9 passes, 32Gib Max temp before mod - 82° C Max temp after mod - 68° C Outside temp delta is around 2-3° C
Heatsink - JEYI Q80 For bottom chips I used cheap thermal paste (there is no point in using high performance one) since even thinniest thermal pads added too much height making drive rise a bit too much to scew it since bottom part of heatsink lays on wi-fi module. Drive sticker was removed (this voids guarantee but I don't care since drive survived for 6+ month of continuous use). Wi-fi module electrically and thermally isolated with kapton tape from bottom part of heatsink. Transferring heat to bottom of mini PC is optional IMO but if you absolutely want an assortment of thermal pads to dial up the height.
Removing and gluing fan is easy. Pry the inserts with mediator or credit card by half-screwing the screws into the inserts or use pliers. Now fix inserts onto the fan and use one second glue or hot glue gun to glue the inserts onto the mini PC backbone. That's it.
BTW I have also replaced stock thermal interface on CPU with NT-H2 and mini PC became much quiter. Stock one looked like phase change one but IMO they suck unless you have time to burn-in the pad. One more change is Wi-Fi antennas to 8 DbI internal but I cannot recommend this mod since signal increase in barely noticeable even though Bluetooth performance/stability is better. It's very janky unless you want to solder stock short cables (which I damaged accidentally anyway).

2024.05.14 02:08 C_Clop Best stock joystick on the market for TGM ?

I started playing TGM recently (on Switch) and want a simple option while maintaining quality.
I saw a couple of old posts about modding the 8Bitdo Arcade stick (with this guide, but it seems not as simple as I thought), or Sega's Virtua Stick High Grade which looks like a good stock option if I understand correctly, or even the MAYFLASH ARCADE STICK F500 Elite.
Any tips for a beginner?
Budget is a consideration, but I'm willing to shell about 200 CAD on this, maybe more if necessary.
Thanks!

2024.05.14 02:00 Alone_Collection7281 Flight routes coming up via star alliance site>AC US ver. but not coming up on AC CA site

Hey aircanada !
So I'm planning a trip for this fall to Korea, and in looking at the flights, I'm able to find a flight option on the star alliance site that has going AC YVR > ICN, no issues there, but the flight back has me going Asiana Airlines ICN > NRT - 19hr layover - AC NRT to YVR
This would be really cool to me because then I can crash in Tokyo for the night, do some shopping on my own then fly back home over night.
The issue, when I go through the SA site, it takes me to the AC US site, if I try to switch it to the CA version, it loses the flight info. When I try to search for the same flights on the AC site, it does not come up with the option for the return flights. Furthermore, I've seen other post here about how people have had issues booking on the US site with their CA credit cards & address. (note i don't have paypal either)
So, is there any way to book the flight I want? Would my only option be to call AC?
Thx!
Edit: corrected spelling
Edit 2
Figured it out, Star Alliance is just using sky scanners search engine, so using skyscanner directly in CAD, found the flight combo I'm after, and it linked me to the AC CAD site without issues.

2024.05.14 01:55 MDfiremanguy You have options? Exercise to cover

If you have GME options that are in the money but don’t have the cash, close to expiration contact your broker and exercise to cover. Do not sell your options to buy shares. Let’s say you have 5 contracts at 15 strike price. That’s 500 shares at $15 a share which is 7500 dollars. If you exercise to cover they’ll sell just enough to cover the share cost. This is important because your cost basis will be at $15 dollars a share. If you sell your options then buy shares that will be your new cost basis.
It also forces the market maker to go into the lit exchange and purchase your shares for delivery putting upward pressure on the stock.

2024.05.14 01:47 csnider4 Exhaust Question

Exhaust Question
First, I want to say I absolutely love my '24 GT. It did not come with Active Exhaust and I've been looking for ways to add to some of that beautiful Coyote V8 sound. I live in a residential neighborhood where I leave for work very early and am not trying to be "that guy" who wakes the neighborhood up on their way to work. I absolutely love the sound of the Corsa, Borla, and Roush cat-back, but without Active Exhaust feature or a valved system, I am afraid they will be too loud. This has led me to valved exhaust systems, mainly Valvetronic's systems. Would it be a waste of money to buy a full cat-back exhaust system such as Corsa Extreme and swap out the Corsa muffler with a Valvetronic Universal Muffler? Perhaps another option would be to buy an H/X pipe and replace the stock muffler with the Valvetronic Universal Muffler? Otherwise, the Valvetronic cat-back system is nearly $3000. Let me know your thoughts, thank you!

2024.05.14 01:36 Minimum_Count9758 Solo Sword Bardadin Build - Supreme Martial All Arounder

NOTE: This guide contains a ton of gear and narrative spoilers
Most Sword Bard builds are either focused on either ranged or control + melee/AoE attack styles, and I wanted to explore whether or not it would be possible to take the best of both to make the ultimate martial all around build. This build features Sharpshooter with ranged damage of 20-30 per arrow and GWM + smite damage of 60-120 per single hit by the end game.

Background Theme

The theme for the build is a resisting dark urge, with a desire for redemption to become the champion of Baldurs's Gate. And this theme weaves through the playthrough with items and choices along the journey, for example:

Build Overview

The build centers around a combination of Bard and Paladin, with all three feats, for a Level 8 Sword Bard / Level 4 Oath of Vengeance Paladin. Feats are Shapshooter, Great Weapons Master and Tavern Brawler centered around Nyrulna for throwing + smite melee and the Titanstring bow for ranged giving absolute martial authority under almost all circumstances.
In addition to the primary martial strength, you gain the jack of all trades benefits of being a Bard, including exceptional social skills, relatively high charisma, good persuasion, deception, sleight of hand and stealth.
Early game, expect to play like any other dexterity/charisma bard, with the first 6 level progression on Bard alone.
By the end of Act 1, and with the acquisition of the Gloves of Dexterity in Creche Y'llek,a respec is needed to maximize the benefits of the Titanstring and the build plays like a ranged beast through all of the mid-game.
After level 6 of Bard, we begin to level into Paladin, which opens the door for the character to start building up melee power. Truth be told, I may have respec'ed a few times between levels 6-10 trying a few things on for size, but the most effective strategy mid-game was:
By Act 3 and the late game, and with the acquisition of Nyrulna from the Djinni at the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington, the martial melee power took center stage, with ranged flourishes still very powerful, but no longer the primary attack strategy. And by level 12 and the end game, you have the choice between throwing Nyrulna for AoE or Slashing Flourish for specific ranged attacks.
Philosophically, the build is focused on fast nova damage to overwhelm a larger group by decimating them in the first 2 turns. High movement is key, we're always looking to surprise enemies, and taking advantage of stealth and invisibility to duck in and out of battle for the occasional "oh shit" moment or recharge of bardic inspiration.

Leveling Guide & Feats

As noted earlier, this build really doesn't come online until level 6, more so at level 8+. Prior to that, you're just an average ranged or melee bard, your choice. The end game goal is Level 8 College of Swords Bard / Level 4 Oath of Vengeance (or Oathbreaker) Paladin.
Race choices include Wood Elf, High Elf, Duegar Dwarf, Half Orc, Gnome or Halfling. I've always opted for one of the elves, primary because of movement speed. The fighting style that has evolved for me throughout multiple solo runs now is that you are often fighting in retreat, and movement is key to manage this. If you're playing this as part of a party, movement is less important.
Levels 1-6 - Bard
I recommend a respec as soon as you are able to purchase the Gloves of Dexterity, which for me happens usually around level 4 or 5 somewhere. When you do, choose STR 17, DEX 8, CON 14, INT 8, WIS 10, CHA 16.
Levels 7-8 - Paladin
Levels 9-10 - Bard
We're really just marching towards that second feat here. Choose whatever you want for spells, I like Freedom of Movement, Greater Invisibility, Fear, Hypnotize. For this build, spells are tertiary to ranged and melee damage, so the focus should be on enhancements and prep spells for battle, not in battle casting against enemies.
Levels 11-12 - Paladin
Again, we're marching to our third feat but you can pick up some great Paladin support and control spells like Command, Bless, Protection from Good and Evil, and additional smites.

Gear Guide

Not extensive, but I'll list out the important items I picked up and used along the way, but place an asterisk by absolutely essential items
Early Act 1
Late Act 1
Act 2
Act 3
End Game items

Buffs and Enhancements

Other Misc Tactics and Potions

I used Potion of Speed, Elixir of Bloodlust, Elixir of Viciousness, Invisibility, and various posions/toxins for weapon dipping throughout the game. Bloodlust was easily the most important for a solo run, I tried to put it on after as many long rests as possible, followed closely by speed potions and invisibility on a per battle basis. Buy Hyena Ears and Worg Fangs every time you see them.
I stocked up on tons of scrolls along the way, the most important of which were Haste, Remove Curse, Misty Step, Fireball, Lightning (+Chain), Mirror Image, Invisibility, Cone of Cold or other large AOE high level spells.
FOOTNOTE: Thanks for reading this far. I've played through the game now like 12 times or so, with one successful honor run, and the last 3 of which were solo runs on Tactician. The solo runs were inspired by Friendly Lich and his blade warlock: https://www.reddit.com/BG3Builds/comments/1cmn6sb/a_warlock_pact_of_the_blade_multiclass_for_solo/
This resisting the dark urge run was my favorite playthrough so far, for both the narrative storyline, and how it played thematically into this build, with the choices between good and evil waffling back and forth along the way, ultimately leading to redemption. I think this is the best story arc of BG3.
I've considered a couple of other options for this build that I'd like to experiment with in the future, including ditching one of the feats and adding one level of War Cleric to get Sanctuary and Guidance. I will not lie, I save scummed a few times along the way and Guidance and Sanctuary would have helped me a bunch in those situations. However, it was rewarding to get the full martial with Tavern Brawler on Nyrulna in the end, will report back if I end up tinkering. Suggestions welcome!

2024.05.14 01:32 555-WarDaddy-555 Side Folder Options

Drama aside, I have a KP-104 that I've SBR'ed and installed the "clone correct" stock on from KUSA. I'm still on the fence whether I want to keep it "original" or customize it. I'll probably go the with the latter. I'm curious if there are any stock options that retain the ability to utilize the latch to keep it folded. I haven't been able to find any, but I'm by no means an expert. I think the main issue will be the optic rail. I have the F5 manufacturing adjustable stock; it's nice, but doesn't fold past 45 degrees or so due to the rail. TIA.

2024.05.14 01:16 timberdood1e Suspension upgrade for a 2008 9-3 SportCombi Linear

As of this February, I've been the owner of a 2008 Saab 9-3 SportCombi Linear with about 170k miles on it. There's a lot to like about the car but the driving experience can be almost too smooth at points- you don't always have much feel for the road beneath you and you can't really dig into corners.
So I'm looking at changing the suspension a little bit - nothing too drastic, as I'm trying to work within a limited budget ($500 for parts give or take) and I use the car as a daily driver. As of right now I'm considering putting Bilstein b4 shocks and struts all around and replacing the current springs with Lesjofors sport springs, front and rear. I had my eye on the b4's and these particular springs because my understanding is that they perform like stock Aero parts, but I could be wrong.
My questions are: Are the shocks and struts I'm looking at compatible with the Lesjofor springs, and if so will I get a noticeably better ride? Or should I be looking at other suspension options? Any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated.

US dollar stabilises ahead of Powell, PPI, USD/JPY eyes 157: Asian Open May 14, 2024
The US dollar has regained its footing heading into a Powell speech and US PPI report, whilst USD/JPY looks set to break resistance and head for 157.
By : Matt Simpson, Market Analyst
The US dollar index traded in a tight range during a relatively quiet session on Monday and held above 105 for a second day. This follows on from a small bullish inside week to shows stability has been found after the prior bearish engulfing week temporarily slammed prices below 105.

Traders like binary outcomes as it can provide clarity for expectations and cleaner trends. Yet the pause of the dollar's demise may be attributed to the fact that traders are grappling with higher-for-longer rates alongside hopes of cuts.

Taking NFP as an example, perhaps traders were too quick to price in cuts given job growth is still knocking out 6-figure gains and unemployment remains low by historical standards. Yet inflation expectations are higher, even if confidence is softer. Mixed data calls for a mixed response.

For the wheels to truly fall off of the US dollar, incoming data needs to point to disinflation, not just pockets of weakness here and there. Overall, I believe the US dollar has topped for now and that inflation will eventually behave. But we might see some US dollar upside before its next leg lower materialises.

The weekly chart shows a high-volume engulfing week ad three failed attempts to close above 106. Yet the small bullish inside week shows a hesitancy to break immediately lower, and the daily chart shows prices holding above 105. Furthermore, Friday’s NFP bearish engulfing day was on relatively low volume, meaning bears lacked conviction on the day. Therefore, my bias is for the US dollar to pop higher from here and potentially see a false break above Friday’s high, before bearish momentum returns and prices head for at least 104.50, the bullish trendline or Q3 open.

Economic events (times in AEST)

We have two key themes to watch for today, which revolve around the BOE and Fed. UK earnings and employment data could provide some last minute bets for whether the BOE will hint at a June cut at Thursday’s meeting, where hotter figures could diminish expectations of a dovish tone and potentially send GBP/USD higher. We also have a talk from the BOE’s Chief Economist Hew which will include an economic outlook, making it a key event. The attention will then shift to US producer prices, which could set the tone for the key CPI report released tomorrow, or the warm-up act for Jerome Powell’s speech later today.

The rise of USD/JPY is beginning to remind me of every stock-market rally hater miss out on. But like it or now, USD/JPY is rising, even if there is a growing concern the BOJ may intervene once more. But it has got this far, why not one final burst for 157?

A bullish trend is apparent on the 1-hour chart although prices have stalled just beneath monthly pivot point and key swing high (the third prominent leg lower). Perhaps we’ll see markets tease with a break of resistance today, which might provide some less-than-friendly price action and a pullback towards the 20 or 50-bar EMA. At which point dip buyers may be tempted to load up for the real break. But if we see a 1-hour close above resistance, bulls could seek to enter on lower timeframes (seek consolidation patterns) with a view on targeting the high-volume node or 157 handle.
