Anyone else feel like the story or general plot the devs are pushing seem to be pushing us towards the brink of failure all of a sudden? Like we can’t even come close to finishing major orders, the couple we did win before that, were done with seconds to spare seemingly and now it feels like even planets with 30k+ players active on don’t go up on the liberation meter. Is it a purposeful plot tool or a result of the Sony Saga?

[F4A] Genres and Fandoms!
Hello again! I’m not sure if you’ve seen my other posts about a fandom roleplay but this one is gonna be about any roleplay in general, fandoms included. This’ll be pretty detailed and I’ll let you know the parts if you want to skip ahead (I suggest you don’t). If you don’t wanna read all of this, then don’t. This was made for people willing to read blocks of paragraphs and maybe even respond with their own.
INTRODUCTION
My name is Hina. To know more about me, I hail from Japan and I have been an avid writer ever since I moved to the States when I was 11. My second language is English but I believe it’s been pretty good. I recently turned 22 years old and I'm female. Talking about age, I would be comfortable with you being 17+ and preferably at least 20. Roleplaying with minors isn’t a big thing for me, I apologize. I’m in the west coast, PST timezone. Let’s see.. What other information can I give you? I would say I enjoy skating, basketball, watching tv shows and anime, and reading. My favorite anime is Nana and Death Note.
GENRES + FANDOM
I am not looking for a specific roleplay. I would say i’m skilled in all genres. Sci-fi, fantasy, horror, apocalypse. All of that. Even slice of life, though that depends on what type of plot exactly. To be more specific on each genre, starting off with fantasy, I'm more used to high fantasy and mythology. I’m not that great with medieval, unfortunately. DnD based role plays aren’t really fit for me and I struggle playing with species like ogres. Just putting that out here. For fantasy, I don’t have any specific ideas.
Sci-fi is the genre I have more skill in. Most of my roleplays are based off of them! Specifically, I’m fine with all subgenres of that.
For other genres like horror and apocalypse, I do have some taste. I really like monsters and creepy things from the horror genre like vampires and all of that and I even have my own idea set up in older times dealing with vampire lords and hunters and all of that. I also enjoy eldritch type horror. I also like that one sun genre of it, like video game horror? I’m not sure how to describe it. I also forgot if it even has an official name or if it’s just something used to describe the horror genre. I like Resident Evil, so maybe that’ll tell you the type of horror I usually enjoy. I do have a developed idea of something more eldritch horror.
More on fandoms! To get some other things down, I usually only play OC unless the character you want me to play is one I know more about and I'm more comfortable playing. The fandoms I like in the more anime way are Jojo’s, Nana, Death Note, JJK, AOT, Haikyuu, and probably more. I’m well versed in the Jojo’s, Aot, and JJK fandoms but less knowledgeable on Death Note since i’ve only seen it once. Other fandoms i’m in include ATLA, TLOK, Harry Potter, Resident Evil, Marvel, DC, and many more.
CHARACTERS
I tend to use character sheets to describe my character, these usually consist of names, background, and personality. More so on appearances, I prefer using animated or drawn references than real life people. I enjoy good enough references where I get the idea of how the character would look like.
The types of characters I write are either the lone wolf type that has some sad past which leads them to want to join someone for a redemption arc or the bubbly character who is the one that brings the mood up and is usually seen as trustworthy and of that kind.
I like all types of tropes, especially enemies to lovers or rivalry. I also really enjoy opposites attract as a whole from either opposite personality or something else they would be opposites in. Enemies to lovers takes my heart, though. I love seeing the characters go past the urge to ultimately hate each other and/or go past their usual way of disliking the others lineage or upcoming.
REQUIREMENT
I think this is my last paragraph on the roleplay. It’s the most important, at least. Requirements. All roleplay searches come with them. Or at least that’s what I heard! But don’t fret, there isn’t much.
I’ve seen this as one of the most used requirements, and I agree with it. As someone who’s first language wasn’t English, I understand that you may not be great at it. But please, I do require a partner that at least has proper use of grammar and punctuation. You don’t even have to use big words or anything, just at least know where to put your periods and the placement of your words.
My second requirement is for you to be LITERATE! Please. I’m a big writer, I tend to ramble on and tend to write more than what I thought I would. (like i’m doing right now) I write multiple paragraphs from the starter until the scene relaxes. I also understand that sometimes writing big blocks of words every response is tiring or boring so I don’t expect it all the time, at least after the starter has been made and in more important scenes. Dialogue also cuts my replies shorter.
Please please please be polite in OOC! We may just be role playing together but kindness goes all ways. If we do include OOC, I enjoy talking about many things. My day, movies, games, funny moments and stories, all of that!
I think that’s the end to this wonderful journey of an ad about my search. I hope you are still here, fellow writer! I would LOVE it if you reached out to me! This wasn’t all for nothing, right!
But don’t leave yet! I do have a passcode. I know this was a jumble of words and rambling but I still have to put one in. I heard that there’s a lot of people on here that don’t read things fully and miss out on rules or information! But.. Just because you read through this all, I’ll gladly give you options on the passcode! Also please put in an introduction of yourself! Don’t think “Oh maybe I shouldn’t bother this person with too much to read”! I like seeing big blocks.
PASSCODE:
What’s your dream country to travel to and why?
OR
Who’s your favorite TV show / Cartoon / Game / Anime character?
Feel free to pick both! Now, that’s all from me. Please don’t put your request as just “Wanna rp”!

2024.05.15 07:25 cest_daisy Help needed 🤭
Guys, I have the following problem: my TBR is over 90 books long and I am so OVERWHELMED by it that it won‘t help me decide what to read next 🥹
So, I would love for you to recommend your favorit fantasy romance books. I would love the following element:
✨ a slow burn love story that will RUIN me ✨ sexy morally-grey MMC and banter (just saying, Rhys is living rent free in my head since day nr 1 😂) ✨ I don‘t want the love story to overpower EVERYthing, there still needs to be a good plot and good writing 🥹) 🌶️ spiiiiice please but not the completely cheap kind from page number 1 🤭
(✨ not a huge fan of urban fantasy but I‘d still take it if it‘s good 😂)
I‘ve read the obvious ones of course (ACOTAR, FBAA, CC, Daughter of No Worlds, …)
I‘d be so grateful if any of you could help 🙏

2024.05.15 07:12 Electronic-Spend4790 Your favourite Sapphic AO3 story?
Ok gals time to drop in your favourite sapphic AO3. For those who don't know AO3 refers to Archieves of Our Own which is a website where writers can publish their fanfiction or fanwork. It can be fanfic of an established series or an original work.
For me it has to be the 'Locker Room Lovers' series by witheredandwiltedrose. Now before I drop a link to it huge huge disclaimar it is a very heavy story that involves a copious amount of SA, religious trauma and suicide. And everyone including our main character is a fucked up (actually the MC is a special kind of fucked up). Read the tags befofe you read the series. Another disclaimar that the series originally started of as smut and the first few chapters are like that before the plot kicks in. But if you can power through it trust me it's one of the best original work out there and the plot is great.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/50454244 PS: the series is a bit hard to navigate. Some of them you need to click on the 'Next Works' button in the bottom while some of the works will have chapters of their own.

2024.05.15 07:07 KansasVenomoth [RP] A New Student
Now that the nobles are calmed and the time-space rift has been closed, Satomi can finally focus on his work as a member of the Survey Corps. Traveling to and from every point all across Hisui in search of new Pokemon, new adventures, and anything else that might prove useful to his Pokemon researcher. Things were going about as normal as one could expect, at least that was until he had been contacted by the very one who had brought him to Hisui in the first place. Arceus had given him a choice; allowing him to remain in Hisui or Satomi could return to his own time, along with the Pokemon he had caught during his time in the past. It was a difficult decision, as Satomi had grown close to many of Jubilifes residents; Akari and Laventon becoming particularly close friends of his, and yet, he yearned to return home, even if he wasn't particularly fond of his family or sure of how he'd explain his sudden, lengthy disappearance... though, he's not even they'd care or believe his story unless Arceus had joined him at his family's home. After taking some time to contemplate his future, and whether he'd return to the present or remain in the past, Satomi decided that maybe returning home wouldn't hurt. Perhaps he could use the experience gained in Hisui and pursue a new journey in his home. As promised, Arceus returned him to the present, but rather than dropping him back in the modern day Sinnoh region like expected, he instead found himself in the countryside of Paldea. Confused, he did some exploring and met up with a group of researchers; he explained his situation, and they decided to help. In order to help him get used to the present once more and meet people and Pokemon alike across this new region, they aided him in gaining enrollment to Naranja Academy, though suggested he remain quiet of what had happened during his time in Hisui. Upon enrolling into the academy, he meets Y/C, becoming fast friends. Ultimately, he joins Y/C on their journey, searching for a special treasure of his own. Will his mysterious past remain a secret or will you discover that there's more than meets the eye with this unusually experienced trainer?
Crappy plot aside, I'm basically looking to isekai Satomi, a trainer based on the Pokemon: Legends protagonist, once again. This time, we're dropping him into Paldea during the events of Scarlet & Violet. Somewhere along the way, he meets Y/C for the typical Pokemon adventure. They travel about the region, find new Pokemon, meet new people, get into trouble, deal with the local 'evil' team, and all that good stuff. Seeking out both platonic and romantic shenanigans (MxF); open to both canon and OCs. The story could eventually lead to them visiting Hisui, or perhaps even journeying to other regions if we get that far. Feel free to DM me if you're interested in this!

2024.05.15 06:59 Minos0526 Does anyone find it weird that Lily and Harper moved in with their friends family
Like first of all it’s weird how both these shows pulled that move. Secondly why did they feel the need to add that to their storylines? Like the characters already appear regularly and the stories that came with them from it didn’t really add much to the overall plot. Also to be realistic (even tho these are shows) what kind of parents would abandon their kids just because they are moving. Like I get we rarely saw Lily’s mom and Harper’s parents but did they really want to ditch their kids and miss out on their lives. lol just a random thought that I feel is not talked about enough.

2024.05.15 06:55 bigtownhero The tone
I'm on season five right now about midway through. Something struck me around season four about the time when Irene Abe was introduced in that the show started to feel like a soap opera. I can't exactly put my finger on what exactly changed but the tone of the show seemed to just completely change to this soap opera type show.
I'm going to continue watching it, but it's not nearly as enjoyable as seasons 1-3. There hasn't been a single character introduced after season three that I've even been remotely interested in. Not Skully or anyone associated with him, not the two strippers, not Franklin's girlfriend, literally not a single new character.
Does anyone else feel like the tone completely changed to a more generic "tune in next week" story with uninteresting cast additions and stale plots?

2024.05.15 06:48 KayRay1994 Some loose ideas for the setting/aesthetic of the next Soulsbourne - ancient history and its respective mythologies
So we’ve had medieval europe, medieval japan and the victorian era. One historic setting that i’d love to see as inspiration for the game is ancient history/the bronze age/the classical age as well as their respective mythologies.
Whether it be Rome, Greece, Egypt, Persia, ancient india, mesopotamia, r ancient china - as far as potential plot and character inspirations, weapon and aesthetic choices, architecture, armor choices, boss design/gameplay/backstory and so on.
The main story could also follow the hero’s journey with an old mythic twist; ie. your main character ascending from humble origins to achieving godhood, where your primary main story bosses would act as a fictional pantheon based on one or an amalgamation of bosses from ancient mythologies.

2024.05.15 06:48 badgerpunk Obi-Wan Kenobi is a good show.
Full stop.
I decided I wanted to rewatch the show around May 4th, but wanted to rewatch the prequels first. I ran through the episodes last weekend and ended up watching the finale today. Yes, it's rough around the edges, but the flaws and bad spots really did not take anything away from my enjoyment going back through it. This is my third full viewing of the series more or less back to back.
There are scenes where the limitations of the volume are apparent, the cgi airspeeders look odd, and there is the infamous foot chase and the hiding under the coat trick. (Honestly, I never got the extreme hate for those last two in the first place. This is still Star Wars and it's still made for kids. Of all ages.) My appreciation for the pacing of the show has only grown. Even the 4th episode, which initially felt like a side-quest detour, serves as a bridge between Kenobi's loss in his first fight with Vader and renewing both his connection with the force and with the Jedi he used to be.
The series of story beats based one Obi-Wan having to face the life he has repressed and turned away from in his exile begins with his encounter with the foreman at his day job and backing down rather than standing up to him. The there's the Jedi on the run looking to this master for help, balking at the mission to save Leia, Haja Estree (such a great character and a brilliant addition to the story), this fake Jedi who is more of an actual Jedi than Obi-Wan is at that point. The mirrors for his trauma in Reva and Tala. The dialogue is great, and the acting is excellent across the board (even Zach Braff's Freck was appropriately cheesy). The story is constructed and told really well.
I do still have a couple of issues with the plot, but neither of them ruin it for me and they're no worse than some issues I have with the films. There is so much good here that it easily outweighs the bad, in my opinion. I just wanted to share my enjoyment and appreciation of the show, especially given how extreme some of the negativity around it has been. I'm so grateful we got this story.

2024.05.15 06:41 chunkybongwater Long Term Fandoms- The 100, Supernatural
Hi there! You can call me Mul and I''ve been writing for about ten years now. I am over the age of 18 and prefer that my partners are too. I love making ooc friends, sharing pictures/memes and gushing about pairings! I'm mainly looking for fandom based roleplays, typically canon x oc pairings.
After desperately searching for long-term, active partners for specific fandoms on smaller roleplay forums, I've finally decided to give reddit a shot!
Here's what I'm looking for in a partner:
First off, please be over the age of 18!
-Romance is basically a must for me. I get bored without it. Though, of course, If we're doubling I would be more than willing to play a platonic pairing for you.
-Be semi-active. I prefer writing with partners who are able to write often, though I do understand life gets busy. I get busy too! All I ask is a heads up if you'll be away for a prolonged period of time. My reply frequency varies from multiple times a day to every other day, to weekly depending on reply length.
-Preferably looking for long-term stories. If things are getting boring, let me know, let's spice it up. Communication is key!
-I love ooc chatter, though it is not a must, always feel free to start up a conversation about the roleplay, fandom or even your day. I don't bite!
-I love doubling! You play my love interest, I play yours.
-As far as post length, typically anything between 2-4 paragraphs per character is great. I will write more or less depending on your preference.
-I am willing to write any gender pairing though for my side, I will primarily be opting for fxm pairings. I will list specific characters I am looking for below but I can play pretty much anybody in exchange.
If you're interested in anything listed below, please feel free to reach out! I'd love to plot with you.
Fandom's I'm looking for:
The 100
Looking for: Bellamy Blake, John Murphy, Maybe Jasper Jordan
Will play: Anyone. Murphy is my favorite to write though!
I've had a particularly hard time finding interest in this particular fandom. Actually, I've been looking for truly interested partners for four years now with little to no luck. It's surprising to me because I feel this fandom has limitless writing possibilities! I have ocs and plot ideas ready to go.
Supernatural
Looking for: Sam Winchester
Will play: Anyone but I love to write Dean Winchester
I have an OC for Sam that I've had a lot of success with in the past! Just looking for new partners after a little hiatus. Plenty of plot ideas for this one!

2024.05.15 06:33 No-Acanthisitta7017 House of the Dragon season 2 trailer/leaks
House of the Dragon season 2 leaks
POTENTIAL SPOILERS ⚠️
Okay so as most of us have seen the new and last trailer for House of the Dragon season 2, and many have seen leaks for the season. I wanted to bring attention to the leak that Rhaena will claim sheepstealer and otherwise have the majority of that storyline.
So then the question arises of what will happen to morning? Morning being a a huge plot point as the first dragon hatched at the end of the war and putting a light on the Blacks. My only thought of what will happen is Rhaena will do all that is done with sheepstealer and morning will not be hers, and rather will go to the only other Targaryen born at that time without a dragon. Viserys ii will hatch and have morning.
Now whilst I do not want this to happen as for obvious reasons it’s the only solution I can think will happen since they can’t have a Targaryen claiming a second dragon. Unless they make that possible in the show. This can also follow along with Viserys flying back when Morning is big enough to find his brother on the throne and being reunited with him; rather than brought back by ship. It would also create conflict as Aegon iii would be happy to see his once thought dead brother but also extreme anger at seeing a dragon again after the death of his mother.
I also don’t know how they would address when Viserys is taken, maybe he’s with morning and she’s just too small to do anything at that time. But then that also raises the question of what will happen to Rhaena and sheepstealer which I can’t think of an ending or continuation for them, but these are my thoughts on that whole leak and would like to see any comments or thoughts on it. Because we all know the book material will be changed for the plot and story for the show if they choose to follow the Rhaena/sheepstealer leak.

2024.05.15 06:33 axolotlman7 The movies changed a lot
So I will preface this by saying I never read the Harry Potter books when I was younger (I was a Percy Jackson kid), and I hadn't even seen the movies until I was an adult, so I am very late to the fandom. I recently "read" the entire series for the first time ("read" because I technically listened to the audiobooks at work), and I was surprised by how much the movies left out and just straight up changed from the books! Like obviously they're going to change some stuff for a movie adaptation, but the pacing and story beats of some are just completely different sometimes. My favorite movie was prisonor of Azkaban, but I think the book version was my least favorite. In the book, the whole time travel/loop thing comes out of nowhere as it was only hinted at by Harry questioning how Hermione could take so many classes like twice towards the begining. On the flip side, I enjoyed the book version of chamber of secrets way more than the movie. The movie was my least favorite, but there was just something about the book that I liked way more. Maybe the plot made more sense in the book? Idk. One more thing, in goblet of fire, the movie has Neville being the one who tells Harry about the water breathing plant, which makes way more sense than Doby appearing out of nowhere and just handing it to him, and if I remember correctly, wasn't that basically cheating too? I'm curious if people have any similar opinions. Again, I'm new to the HP fandom, so don't flay me alive😁

2024.05.15 06:16 DocWatson42 SF/F and ___
This is my catchall list, for interesting and specific speculative fiction recommendations that don't have another home. Recommendations may be moved to another list (say, a new one) without notice.
My lists are always being updated and expanded when new information comes in—what did I miss or am I unaware of (even if the thread predates my membership in Reddit), and what needs correction? Even (especially) if I get a subreddit or date wrong. (Note that, other than the quotation marks, the thread titles are "sic". I only change the quotation marks to match the standard usage (double to single, etc.) when I add my own quotation marks around the threads' titles.)
The lists are in absolute ascending chronological order by the posting date, and if need be the time of the initial post, down to the minute (or second, if required—there are several examples of this). The dates are in DD MMMM YYYY format per personal preference, and times are in US Eastern Time ("ET") since that's how they appear to me, and I'm not going to go to the trouble of converting to another time zone. They are also in twenty-four hour format, as that's what I prefer, and it saves the trouble and confusion of a.m. and p.m. Where the same user posts the same request to different subreddits, I note the user's name in order to indicate that I am aware of the duplication.
Thread lengths: longish (50–99 posts)/long (100–199 posts)/very long (200–299 posts)/extremely long (300–399 posts)/huge (400+ posts) (though not all threads are this strictly classified, especially ones before mid?-2023, though I am updating shorter lists as I repost them); they are in lower case to prevent their confusion with the name "Long" and are the first notation after a thread's information.

2024.05.15 06:14 SeventhAscendant What's the general consensus on the side characters vs side villains trope in battle shonen?
I personally dislike it and find it very stale, but I have not really seen a lot of people dislike it in discussions, so I was wondering if there were others who shared the sentiment. A lot of shonen follow the structure of main character fights main villain while the side characters each have their own fight with minor villains which usually stretches on for a couple of chapters or episodes each. I find it incredibly boring as the result is usually the side character winning and the fight itself having no consequence on the rest of the story. I just as well could have read that A vs B happened and A won without knowing how and the overall plot beats don't change at all.
I had this issue with Bleach's older arcs, Black Clover, One Piece just off the top of my head. This structure kind of killed my hype for Bleach though I did find TYBW pretty good. I love One Piece but to have the Straw Hats each have their individual fights just felt like bloating the already long arcs. I thought perhaps I was just losing interest in battle shonen as a whole, but I loved arcs like Shibuya, Marineford, Egghead, where there is a lot of action, but it is a chaotic mess with no proper structure where fights kept bleeding into each other. I still enjoyed all the series I mentioned, but these side character fights felt like filler that were meant to develop the side characters, but I feel like there ought to be a better way for that than a couple of predictable fights.
Most recently I had this issue with OPM's manga where there's an entire arc dedicated for side characters vs side villains. I think a lot of people liked it though, so it just might be me. Is this just an older trope that is less frequent these days or is it just a matter of personal preference? What do you guys think?

2024.05.15 06:08 EggSad604 [A4A] [Discord] Looking for a Baldurs Gate 3 Roleplay
Hello, I hope anyone who is reading this is having a great day/night. I am a 25 year old nonbinary writer in search for a rp partner who’s interested in writing a literate/novella style story based in the world of Baldurs Gate 3. I am also open to alternative universes involving the characters from BG3.
I'm currently looking for a possibly long term canon x oc or oc x oc roleplay. I'm exclusively interested in writing stories with lgbtq+ characters so if you are interesting in exclusively writing straight characters and pairings, I am not the partner to reach out to.
Characters I am comfortable playing (* are a current craving): Gale
, Astarion, Gortash, Halsin, Karlach, Kar'Niss, Dame Aylin, Tav (OC), Dark Urge (OC)*
Characters I am looking to play against(* are my faves): Gale
, Astarion, Halsin, Wyll, Gortash*
, Dark Urge (oc), Tav (oc)*, Shadowheart, Isobel, Karlach
Below is some information about me and what I am looking for in a partner: (Please read this before you reach out. There is a password hidden in there to ensure you have read it. If you reach out to me, start out your message with said password.)
- No one liners! I use roleplaying as a creative outlet and I feel like both of us would be able to have A LOT more fun if some effort is put into it. I am looking for partners interested in writing literate-novella style roleplays. But I also value quality over quantity and won't police you on wordcount. Just try to keep it to at least a few paragraphs.
- I write in third person past tense and need you to do the same. Literacy is also something I value and I would love someone who uses a lot of descriptive language etc. I will not be mad for grammatical errors as English isn't my native language anyway, but I would like to be able to understand what you're saying and I'd like for you to know the difference between you're, your, their, they're etc.
- Be patient with my responses. I am a working adult and I have a life outside of roleplaying. This means I can't be online the 24/7 for replies. I am most likely available for OOC talk most of the time. The more you'll push me for a response when I'm busy the more likely you are to not get one at all. Please be respectful and I will do the exact same to you.
- You need to pull your own weight in the rp, I don't want to lead your character through the plot, this is meant to be a story we create together.
- I love talking about our characters and whatever world we decide to go for. Plotting and just talking about headcanons/whatever is also great and something I appreciate a lot. The password is blighted.
- I am very friendly OOC and will gladly have OOC conversations with you if that's something you'd want!
- I would prefer to roleplay with someone in my age range.
- I will not reply to you if I feel like you did not read all of these things properly.
- I am happy to provide writing samples to ensure we are a good match, and will happily take yours.
If reading this still leaves you interested, feel free to reach out to me. Start out your message by giving me the password, telling me about yourself, what characters you are looking to play/for me to play, what kind of story you would like to do. I will not reply to vague messages.
