2024.04.29 05:46 Redbettyt47 I asked readers to convince me and . . .
. . . I was convinced! I picked up Death’s End yesterday and finished it today. Overall, it was a really good read. I’d give it a solid 8.5 stars out of 10. There was a lot to like and some to not. Here are my thoughts, from Not Great to Great.
Not Great:
- “I’m a woman, not a warrior.” Sigh. I knew it was coming but it still wasn’t great when it did. Multiple times, she said this to herself and others. The general sexism in this was enough of an annoyance that I had to occasionally will my eyes not to roll up into my head and get stuck there.
- AA. First, AA generally belongs in my Great list because I enjoyed her a lot, but her reason for existing other than to be a face for Cheng Xin to talk to is beyond me. Cheng Xin wakes up in the future and AA is her guide. That’s cool. But then before the end of that chapter, Cheng Xin sells her star and tells AA that she’ll need to form a company to manage her money. AA’s completely normal and rational response is that she’ll immediately quit her job/PhD studies to run this company for a person she just met. It seemed weird. Also, aside from the multiple boyfriend she had, we don’t know anything else about her. Did she emerge as the product of binary fission from a single celled organism? Maybe! Because we don’t know if she had parents, friends, or anyone else to hang out with while the world was literally ending. . . except for Cheng Xin. Ok.
- Australian Sophon. Look, I love a Katana-armed character as much as the next person, but she was such a mustache-twirling villain that I laughed . . . but not in a good way, which leads me to. . .
- Humanity’s Stupidity. I mean, c’mon. When the Deterrence Era started, everybody was all, “Awesome! The Trisolarans want to be our friends and send us art and stuff so we should absolutely build an AI robot controlled by them that is capable of becoming an unstoppable human-killing machine! What could go wrong?!’“ Yeah, no. None of that made sense, which leads me to. .
- Today’s topic called Evolution Doesn’t Work Like That! Wow. This was a big one. Humans (well, actually just men - I guess women evolved to take better care of of their skin and then didn’t) apparently can physically evolve into “feminized men” and then back to “Common Era-AKA 80’s men” every 60 years or so, depending on the state of the world. This was written to be a biological change affecting their bodies and vocal pitch to such an extreme that Cheng Xin couldn’t find a single one when she woke up after her first slumber. It wasn’t just about fashion choices. No. To evolve like that would require many, many millennia, not just a half a century here there. This was just silly.
Related to that are other situations like the one when a group formed during the Broadcast Era who wanted to create a totally agrarian society. They went to Australia and immediately noped out as soon as they picked up a shovel because supposedly, humans had moved past their ability to perform manual labor. Huh. Got it.
- String Theory. I’m just going to leave that there.
- Dark Forest. Those words appeared way too much. Sometimes they were said over and over in the same paragraph. “dark forest attack…”, “the universe is a dark forest…”, “…planning/preparing fodefending against a dark forest strike…”, “remember that we are in a dark forest”, etc., etc. etc. I get it. I don’t need to be told 800 million times.
There’s a few other things that I exclaimed out loud, “oh no, this is stupid”, but those were the highlights.
Great:
- Cheng Xin. Yes, she was “A WOMAN, NOT A WARRIOR”, but aside from that, I thought she was a well-written and complex character and I understood and agreed with her choices. The author did her dirty with the maternal/overly emotional business, however, that didn’t define her as much as I expected it to and I really enjoyed seeing the world through her eyes.
- Lao Jin. Total badass. He was basically a fierce monk and it wouldn’t have surprised me if he suddenly whipped a light saber. Love him.
- Gravity and Blue Space. The sections dedicated to them were awesome with shades of Star Trek lore woven throughout. Great characters, deliciously mysterious events, pathos, dread . . . 10/10. Well done.
- The fairy tales. This one surprised me. I didn’t expect to enjoy them, but I did. The stories themselves were very well-written and fun to read, and encouraged reader interaction like any good riddle should. When the “slip of paper” revealed its nature, I was all, “Oh! It’s the paintings! 3-D things being made into 2-D things makes them disappear!”, like some nerdy idiot. It was good fun. Again, 10/10.
- The 2-D collapse of our Solar System. Aside from the overly long descriptions of Mercury and Mars, I thought it was brilliant. The account of the 2-D collapse of Europe VI was particularly moving. It was a shocking but beautiful way to end (most of) humanity.
- Pretty much everything else so this list is deceptively shorter. This was an easy, fun, well-paced read that was definitely time well spent. Highly recommend

2024.04.29 05:41 tnemom_hurb The Guardian Angel booster would be a fun addition to the game
There's some wonderful art I remember seeing some weeks ago with Eagle-1 and some Helldivers (it was amazing looking.) At the end there was a panel showing a booster called Guardian Angel where after the mission timer runs out helldivers could still call in Eagle stratagems using flares except they're less accurate than regular stratagem balls. It'd be an incredibly niche booster for sure but I just think that's so badass and we already have some niche boosters like reducing the cooldown on redeployments after running out or Pelican arriving sooner. Rule of cool certainly applies here for me.

Socionics Questionnaire for MBTI help please:
What do you study or do for a living? How did you come to do that? What do you like or dislike about it?
- Gonna head into Phystical Therapy school soon. I got interested in it because I personally injured myself and went through the process of healing through PT. I also enjoy anatomy and exercise a lot and it meshes pretty well with that. I like a lot of things about it, the only thing I dislike though, is how as a PT you have to keep your mouth shut when a patient angers you by annoying you or saying something heavily immoral
What else do you do on a daily basis? What are your interests and hobbies? Why do you do them?
- I just be chilling. I lift weights everyday and box. I also spend a lot of time in my room watching Netflix and I watch Basketball with my homies. I occasionally go outside and ride my longboard and draw. I like having an active lifestyle. Lifting and boxing are also good routines that ground me and center me in the moment. I also want to get tougher and stronger which is what boxing and lifting help with
What are your values, and why?
- Mental peace for sure. I don’t like when too much mental turmoil goes on. I also believe honesty, courage, doing the right thing, and kindness are extremely important. No one grows from staying in their comfort zone and courage is the first step to growth. Honesty and doing the right thing are important because you’re just a pussy if you can’t find yourself doing these. Kindness is also important because everyone deserves to be treated equally
Describe your relationships with family and friends. What do you like and dislike about them?
- With my family I’m seen as the relaxed, carefree youngest son who does his own thing. But being the youngest son also puts a big burden on me that I don’t reveal with anyone. I feel as if my parents financially supporting me cuts them off from their dreams. My father specifically wants to retire but knows he can’t because of me which makes me feel pretty guilty. But I love my family nonetheless. My relationship with my friends is that I can be the real goofy guy that always has something funny to say. They also see me as tough and relaxed though, because of my hobbies. I don’t feel like I have any toughness that they don’t have however
What do you look for in friends? In romantic relationships?
- I guess I just look for people who make me feel comfortable and that I can have a good time with. Idk I don’t really go looking for friends tbh, if things happen and I’m your friend then I’ll be your friend. In romantic relationships I’m pretty attracted to confident women who share the same hobbies and values as me. But again, I’m open to whatever. The most important thing in a girl is values to me
What conflicts have you encountered recently with other people? Why did they happen? Which kinds seem to happen on a regular basis?
- I don’t really think I get into conflicts that often but if I had to say something it would be whenever someone tries to get me to do something while I’m just relaxing. I get visibly irritated and tell them to bug off. Whenever my dad barges into my room and tells me to research something I usually tell him to piss off. Another thing I can think of is when my roommates leave a shared area gross and messy. I’m oftentimes the guy to yell at them to clean up after themselves. Idgaf if you’re messy, I’m messy asf too, but don’t let it get into an area we all share
What are your strengths? What do people like about you? What do you like about yourself?
- When I set my mind to something I know I can get it done. My base state is to be relaxed however. People normally like my carefree attitude I bring to the atmosphere. I would say I like my courage and how much I’ve grown over time
What are your weaknesses? What criticism do you often face from others? What do you dislike about yourself?
- I guess maybe being too relaxed? I also do inappropriate things in public because Idrc about what other people say. This oftentimes can embarrass my friends lol. I can’t really think of anything I dislike about myself that much. I’m pretty satisfied where I’m at, but I’m not perfect ofc
In what areas of life can you manage well on your own? In what areas of your life would you like help?
- I’m not an anxious person so I’m confident in challenges. I would also say I’m pretty empathetic and make good connections. I would like help in logical consistency however. I feel like oftentimes I act on a whim and it’s something I could work on fs
What things do you dislike doing? What things do you enjoy more than others?
- I dislike doing monotonous work where I can’t be myself. If I had to sit a desk job I’d not be happy at all. I enjoy relaxation and physical activity. I also like art a lot too and am pretty good at expressing myself through drawings
What goals, aspirations, or plans do you have for the future, and why?
- Nothing crazy really. I just want a stable income and a family I can protect. I want to be a pillar of strength and stability for my future children and wife
What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)?
- I like color coordinating things and I’ve slightly decorated my room. I have my boxing gloves hanging on my wall, I have pictures of me and my homies, and a TPAB vinyl album on my wall
How do you behave around strangers?
- Calmly and in a friendly enough manner. Not too loud not too quiet
How do you react to conflict? What do you do if somebody insults or attacks you?
- I feel like I’m decently assertive. I’ll be able to tell someone off if they insult me fs. But I wouldn’t really say I get offended that easy either. If someone physically attacks me I’m fighting back ofc. I don’t like to be in conflict though, I’d much rather just be harmonious
Would you ever be interested in starting a business? Why or why not? What role would you play in it? What kind of business would it be?
- Nah not really, sounds like too much work
How do you dress or manage your appearance?
- Dress in baggy clothes in a more urban style. I usually like clothes that make me look bigger. I color coordinate my clothes and I pretty much always wear white sneaks. Blazers or air forces
Do you like kids? Why or why not?
- Yeah they’re adorable and innocent. Same way I feel about animals (except centipedes, FUCK centipedes). I wanna take care of kids of my own eventually and be a loving father
In what situations or times in your life did you feel most fulfilled, and why?
- I feel most fulfilled when I’m at the gym or just enjoying myself. I also like having deep conversations with my friends from time to time, when we’re not just shooting the shit
How do you feel about attention? Do you seek it out?
- I don’t really seek it out I don’t think. But I do dress form fitting when I’m at the gym so maybe? I see that as me tryna check out my own physique and progress though, not as a way to get attention
How do you approach responsibility? What do you tend to expect of others?
- I’d say I’m not super responsible and I ca. def get better about it. But I do follow through with my promises and I expect others to do the same. Don’t let your words mean nothing, they are a binding vow
If you were to raise a child, what would be your main concerns, what approach would you take, and why?
- My main concerns would be that they don’t feel loved and that they are weak and unprepared for the world. For those reasons I want to be as loving to them as I can. A father that’s seen as a best friend. But also I wanna put them in physical activities that strengthen them and challenge them
Your friend bursts into tears. What do you do? How does it make you feel?
- First I would feel shock and a little bit of confusion. I wouldn’t know exactly what to do. I think initially I’ll be nurturing, telling them they’re alright and I’m here for them, but afterwards I would try to offer them practical advice
What is your biggest accomplishment?
- Getting bigger through the gym. I used to be a skinny kid, so feeling powerful and having confidence knowing I can do anything I set my mind too feels extremely good
What was (or is) your high school experience like?
- I was pretty shy back in highschool. I had a small friend group that I grew up with but I felt out of place in physical environments. Whenever we played a sport, I felt pretty awkward. I also did not know how to talk to girls, or anyone for that matter, and got pretty nervous in conversations. However I’d say I’m not like this now and changed quite a bit through time. I really don’t relate with any of these qualities anymore
Ever feel stuck in a rut? If yes, describe the causes and your reaction to it.
- Yeah occasionally, I feel like everyone does. Oftentimes it’s when I have an uncertain future, I use something to put off my decision and get irritated whenever people ask about that future. In those moments I get short in conversation and leave the room
What is something you regret?
- No regrets mane, that’s how we live life. But if I HAD to pick… hmmm… there was one girl who I spent too much time on and now I’m confident I’ll never make that mistake again
Who do you admire, and why?
- My mother and father. My ma’s tough and she’s been through so much but she keeps moving forward. I respect her so much for that. My pa’s extremely intelligent and has an insatiable thirst for knowledge, something I could never relate to. He also always puts on a smile and is too loving. I wanna protect them both if it’s the last thing I do
What's been on your mind? Has anything been worrying or concerning you? What problems have you encountered lately?
- Getting into PT school. It’s been on my mind. I’m taking it day by day but there’s a part of me that’s kinda worried because I haven’t moved in yet or nun
What kind of work environment do you prefer? What do you look for in a job?
- A laidback environment that allows me to be myself and move at my own pace
What is or was your favorite school subject and why?
- Anatomy and Phys. I love learning about the body and how the moments are so similar to that of a machine with pulleys on it. It’s just so cool and practical too
What is one common misconception that people have about life? Explain why it is wrong.
- People work too hard and take no time to chill. I think life is too short to not enjoy the moment. You also shouldn’t compromise your morals to get to the top. A lot of people do shitty things to benefit themselves and that’s fucked up
Where did you go on your most recent vacation? What did you do there? How did you like it and why?
Talk about a significant event from your life.
- Injuring my bicep. I couldn’t lift anymore and the frustration I felt was real. I snapped at everyone and was living in constant fear that I would never get better. The injury kept replaying in my head over and over. Eventually I worked through the injury and now I’m stronger than ever, both mentally and physically. It’s also what got me into PT. Truly a turning point in my life and I have no regrets about it, because of how much I learned
How do you see other people as a whole?
- They cool man. They just living their lives. People can be good or bad, but I never understood people that stereotype people. I know people that are lowkey racist and I don’t get it. I have a friend who constantly asks me “what do you think about x people” and I’ll constantly say I have no opinion, because I genuinely don’t see people as groups
What do you consider a prevalent social problem? Name one.
- Shamelessness for the bag nowadays. OF models and dudes beating their shit to that annoy me. It’s hurting society and is not something that children should be aware of. As we move forward with this we are losing our morality. I also absolutely HATE the US and how we’re funding multiple genocides. Free Palestine, Free Congo, Free Sudan, Free the Uyghurs, Free Kurdistan, free them all, they have a right to live and a right to freedom. Fuck greed, fuck the US, UK, and Israel
What do you do if you're not getting what you want? What approach do you use?
- I make my needs known. I’m usually direct and tell people what’s up, but because of chillness it may take me a bit to get here
Are you comfortable taking leadership roles? In what areas? Why or why not?
- Not really. But if no one else steps up to the plate then I will. Most positions in which I’m a leader is when I’m convincing others to do something fun. Or when I know how to get to a place and others don’t
How often do you get angry? What kinds of things make you angry?
- I’d say I get at least irritated every day. I use anger as fuel for the gym. Things that make me angry and people trying to control what I do or push me away from my routine. Despite my mostly pleasant nature I can get quite snappy
What is one unusual trait or ability you possess? What makes you special?
- Idk I guess I’m pretty strong willed when I want to be? Idk if it makes me special but it’s something I’m proud of
What is your sense of humor like? Do you joke around a lot?
- I’m very gregarious and humorous. I joke around all the time. My humor is usually random and playful. Like a dog doing goofy shit. When I’m with my homies I’m constantly laughing
What were you like as a child? How have you changed since then?
- Different phases. Quiet, distracted, and violent in elementary school. Oftentimes getting into physical fights with classmates just because I could. Shyer in Middle school. Not really knowing how the social system worked I became friends with the stoners but then realized they were kinda shitty people. In Highschool I got pretty shy but I still had my gang of boys I enjoyed my time with. I’m much more confident, gregarious, and peaceful now. I feel as if I’m gentle but still direct. My hobbies also ground me now and make me feel whole
What is the best thing that happened to you during the past week?
- Had a great time at Karaoke and the day after me and my homies explored the city and just had a ton of fun
What is the purpose of life? What do you find personally meaningful in life?
- The purpose of life is to find a balance between worldly pleasures and pleasing God. You must be in the moment and appreciate everything you have in front of you. It’s fine if you slip up from time to time but always turn to God whenever you can
What is the most interesting place you have been, and why?
- Hard to say. I loved the UK when I was there. I also love Chicago and Austin. I honestly can’t pick one. Mecca was amazing too from a spiritual perspective. Any place that puts me at peace, where I can enjoy the moment is my favorite

2024.04.29 05:09 topshelfjulia anniversary gift ideas for boyfriend??
so me(29F) and my boyfriends (28M) two year anniversary is coming up and i want to gift him something unique. he likes little trinkets and cool memorabilia type of stuff from his favorite shows/movies/video games, etc. so with the latest release of the fallout show he is super psyched and replaying fallout 4. that being said, he obviously has played all the games and binged the show now too. i found on ebay a metal poster thing of the magazine “the art of haggling” but i would like to get something maybe possibly cooler?? i havent played the game so i don’t know what would be a cool gift idea because respectfully i don’t understand much from this game lol so any gift ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
edit to add: we live in boston so fallout 4 is especially cooler and quite literally close to home for us

2024.04.29 04:57 queengwynn Help needed in making a fan game
I'm piecing together a fan game, called "Fallout: Ozark Blues." It's a laid-back, top-down RPG thing we're gonna build just for kicks. No serious biz or money talk, just a bunch of folks having a good time.
I've got a rough sketch of a story in my head, but when it comes to making it all happen – like the coding and designing part – I need quite a bit of help with. That's where you come in. I'm looking for a chill crew to join the party: storytellers, code jockeys, and art gurus. We're all equals here, just trying to make something neat. Also I'm not looking for any one who's a New Vegas purist, or someone who's just in general rude about people's game preferences. Just a nice crew who's cool with everyone.
So for the story I'm thinking it takes place after fallout four, in obviously the Ozark region of Arkansas with a lot of Oklahoma aswell. The main character is as vault Dweller from vault 26. I was thinking about having the legion, brotherhood, and of course the enclave in it with some other factions. I'm always open to changing things to make it work, and I'm very open to collaboration on the story.
We'll be talking on Discord mostly (unless there's some better program out there), tossing ideas around and figuring stuff out as we go. Some of the people who are helping me write are LGBTQ so if that's a issue with the please disregard this post.
If you're down for some creative jamming and want to help craft this game, hit me up. Let's make something fun and see where it goes!

2024.04.29 04:42 UnfairAcanthisitta23 You’ve read the title, but have you read the post? (21M)
No? I don’t blame you, my attention span also sucks, that’s because of the ADHD though.
I’d tell you my name, but let’s keep the anonymity on that for the time being. I like to have that kind of barrier when I’ve spoken to deranged medical students and a woman who thought she could be physically turned into a car. I wish I was joking.
I’m from Minnesota. I’m Latino and bi. I’m also a Gemini and my MBTI is ENFJ. I study business in community college, I used to study sociology but then I dropped out of uni. Long story. I work as a server at a hotel for events such as weddings, birthday parties, business retreats. I love it and I hate it, the pay is why I’m still there.
I love listening to music, my favorite genres are rap, r&b, and alternative rock. I love to write from fiction to journaling. I love pretty much art in general, traveling, learning new things, and going out. Also play video games, but I haven’t had much time lately. I feel like I can get along with anyone as long as you can put effort into the conversation lol.
I’d appreciate if you tell me a bit about yourself once you message, and near my age too. Don’t think we’d vibe as well if you’re 10 years older than me lmao. I’m cool with moving onto a different platform later on.

2024.04.29 04:30 Ill_Science_1423 Romance Anime
Here is a list in order of my favorites that I have watched and some rationale. I generally like to watch dub but I am fine with sub. I also am cool with fan service if you couldnt tell. Based off this do you guys think you could recommend something? I've been stuck trying to find something new to watch. Thanks
- More than a married couple but not lovers: All the characters are really great and have good chemistry, the art is great, the premise is interesting, and there's a lot of romance from the beginning (I don't really like slow shows)
- Yamada and the seven witches: I think all the characters are great, it was really funny, the premise was interesting, wish it was longer because it felt rushed at some times, the best part was it seemed like the ending wrapped everything up and the two reciprocated feelings
- Bunny girl senpai: The romance was honestly really good and I like that they actually got together in the show unlike a lot of these on the list, also the mysteries were interesting.
- My dress up darling: I just liked the FMC tbh, don't know anything about cosplay or dolls but i thought the romance was pretty cute overall
- Toradora: This was the first romance I watched and I really liked all the characters except Taiga. She was really annoying and it made me mad when Minori or Ami didn't win. Other than that it was really good
- A couple of cuckoos: Honestly I just liked this one because it had Akaris va in the dub. It was kinda slow and not enough romance for me.
- The angel next door spoils me rotten: I liked this one but need more romance
- Rent a girlfriend: I would put this higher but people would hate the take. I thought the MC was really annoying but I liked all the other characters. The premise does seem kinda drawn out though
- Quintessential quintuplets: I didnt want yotsuba to win. Im fine with harems but only like them if the girl i am cheering for wins. I generally feel like I cheer for the first girl that the male MC meets so thats why I was cheering for itsuki in this show. It was pretty alright though other than that, just liked all the others ones better
- Horimiya: I know people are gonna hate this take but I just thought it was boring. I dropped it entirely and I should probably revisit it but I just thought it was really boring. Miyamura was cool but I didn't like the dub va for hori and I thought the premise was pretty boring. The plot doesn't have to be some crazy fantasy for me to like it but I just thought it was boring. Also the way they met was stupid and boring to me.

2024.04.29 04:27 Agreeable-Ad4806 Deeper significations of the signs as ascendants (Part 9: Pisces)
At its essence, Pisces represents the end of our journey, the final stage of spiritual evolution on the material plane. It serves as a time of reflection, integration, acceptance, and dissolution, where the soul gathers the wisdom and experiences accumulated throughout its journey. Here, in the depths of Pisces, the ego and dualistic perception begins to unravel. This unraveling marks the transcendence of dichotomies that govern our material existence shown by Gemini. There is a dissolution of boundaries between self and other, masculine and feminine, subject and object, good and bad, pain and pleasure; it is in Pisces that opposites converge into a unified whole. It is a phase of spiritual surrender, where the individual relinquishes attachment to material desires and identities, preparing to either transcend through liberation (Moksha) or begin a new cycle. One reaches realization of unity with the cosmos and must decide whether to be reunited with it, contained in its fullness, or reborn out of Karmic necessity.
If approached out of a noble pursuit of enlightenment in divine wisdom rather than selfish motivations, the study of astrology, among the most venerable sciences, would not evoke undue concern regarding the prohibition of forecasts for determined outcomes. Instead, individuals would earnestly strive to refine their own character, embracing fortitude to align with the law of Karma amidst challenging circumstances. The divine plan unfolds through evolution, and understanding this path, whether on an individual or collective scale, transcends mere superstition. Superstition, in essence, arises from an incomplete consideration of causation, manifesting as prejudice. Regrettably, the modern era is marked by pervasive prejudice, exacerbated by the rise of philosophies such as communism and capitalism, which denigrate occultism and theism, impeding the advancement of religious principles. The endeavors of those under the influence of Aquarian energies aim to pave the way for the forthcoming Messiah. Lord Vishnu, as proclaimed by Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, pledges to incarnate whenever righteousness wanes, to rekindle its flame. In this divine role of the restorer of balance, Lord Vishnu assumes his Piscean aspect within the zodiac. Reflecting on the significance of this celestial sign becomes imperative as humanity stands on the cusp of a new era, with the influence of a fresh cycle only recently transgressing over the world.
The ancient seers bestowed upon this sign various appellations, including Meenam, Anthya, Mathsya, Prithuroma, and Jhasha, all of which come to be synonymous with the word "fish." To unveil the depth of this Rashi’s symbolism, one must delve deeply into Vedic cosmology. In Hindu scriptures, the symbolism of the fish finds elucidation in the Hari Purana and other revered texts. In the Hari Purana, Vishnu, the second aspect of the Logos responsible for preserving the manifested world, is depicted as assuming various Avataras (divine incarnations) to guide humanity's evolution. Notably, in the Matsyavatar, Lord Vishnu manifests in the form of a fish with a human head, a divine incarnation undertaken to retrieve the Vedas lost during the deluge, Pralaya. According to Hindu scriptures, Matsya Avatar manifested during the Satya Yuga (the first age in Hindu cosmology), in response to a catastrophic flood that threatened to destroy all life forms (deluge). The story goes that the demon Hayagriva stole the Vedas from Brahma and hid them underwater. To retrieve the Vedas and protect the world's knowledge, Lord Vishnu transformed into Matsya Avatar. As a fish, Matsya guided the king Manu's boat through the deluge. He also fought against the demon Hayagriva and ultimately recovered the Vedas, ensuring the continuity of knowledge and civilization. The Matsya Avatar symbolizes protection, preservation, and the restoration of order. It represents the divine's intervention in times of crisis to safeguard righteousness and uphold cosmic balance. Matsya Avatar's story serves as a reminder of the importance of knowledge, virtue, and divine protection in overcoming adversity and preserving the sanctity of life. It was this divine figure who imparted essential knowledge to humanity, teaching them the arts of construction, agriculture, and the importance of worshiping the unknown deity through temple construction and regular rituals.
This portrayal shows the ancient Brahmanic association of their Messiah, Vishnu, with both the symbol of the fish and the cataclysmic deluge. Parallels exist in Babylonian as well as other cultural mythologies, such as where the deity Dag-On, the Man-Fish, assumes a role of the prophet and is revered as a symbol of salvation, or the story of Noah in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, where righteousness is restored by the destruction of the world through a great flood, and Jesus carried the symbolism of the fish. Throughout antiquity, the motif of the fish was frequently intertwined with the concept of the Messiah. This prominence of the fish in Messiah symbolism reflects its enduring significance across diverse cultures. The auspicious nature attributed to the fish symbol is evidently rooted in antiquity, transcending the confines of exoteric religions. It symbolizes an inner wisdom-religion that imparts truths of occultism directly and without obfuscation, embodying the timeless teachings of sacred texts like the Vedas. But just like the messiah is often portrayed, they are met with a trial. They must prove they are beyond material temptations by suffering their condemnation. Otherwise, they will fall to the luster of material grandeur out of their weakness for mercury, ultimately condemning them to begin a new cycle as they fail to pass their final test.
Pisces in Vedic cosmology is attributed as the feet of Kala Purusha, but it is also known as Prithuroma. Prithu, the son of Vena, himself descended from Agni, the fire deity, emerged as the inaugural monarch from whom the earth derived its name, Prithvi. According to the Vishnu Purana, when Vena, tainted by malevolence, forbade worship and sacrifice, righteous sages chastised him, leading to his demise. Subsequently, an era of lawlessness and chaos ensued due to the absence of a ruler. The sages, symbolically invoking the potential for virtuous action inherent in Vena, rubbed his right arm, from which emerged the illustrious Prithu, radiant like Agni, symbolizing the inner fire that animates all living beings and is present throughout the universe. Pisces is depicted as the hair on the body of this fire-like king, symbolizing the expression of divine creative power sustaining the entire cosmos. This notion aligns with the depiction of Pisces as the feet of Kala Purusha, signifying the indispensable role of sustenance in the cosmic order. Indeed, the sustenance of the entire manifestation hinges upon its feet; without it, movement and evolution would falter. Even in Vedic predictive astrology, Pisces-born individuals are often burdened with numerous responsibilities, tasked with supporting individuals and organizations. Notably, the transition from the last degree of Pisces to the first degree of Aries (gandanta degrees— the most momentous gandanta, at that) symbolizes the role of Pisces ascendants in nurturing new beginnings, putting an end to one cycle through dissolution in the preparation for beginning another.
Prof. B. V. Raman, in his seminal work "Hindu Predictive Astrology," describes Pisces as the feet of Kala Purusha, associating it with sacred shrines, altars, pagodas, rivers, tanks, fountains, and the vast expanse of oceans. Pisces, as the 12th bhava signifies divine knowledge, worship, liberation (Moksha), and the state beyond death, among other attributes. According to Prof. Raman, those born under Pisces are characterized by restlessness, a penchant for historical and mythological discourse, and a commitment to righteousness, avoiding transgression of moral laws. These observations align closely with the wisdom passed down by ancient seers across various contexts. Indeed, even a lay astrologer would attest to the religious, God-fearing, and traditional nature of Pisces individuals, who may not always find contentment in mundane existence. The latter characteristic may seem enigmatic at first glance. However, through deeper exploration and a thorough examination of the myriad perspectives on the nature and significance of this sign, such complexities can be elucidated in their true light. By applying basic astrological principles, one discerns that Pisces resides fifth from Scorpio, which symbolizes the seat of Serpent Fire, representing the latent power within humans known as Kundalini Shakti. It is only through the awakening of this dormant power that individuals can ultimately merge their individual consciousness with the universal consciousness, ascending to the status of Mahatmas, Adepts, and Perfected Beings. These Adepts have ascended to Nirvanic heights, where the individual spark merges seamlessly with the universal Flame, and the individual drop becomes one with the ocean. In this state, the Adept is akin to a fish submerged in water, seamlessly integrated into the vast expanse of the ocean, the natural solvent for material impurities, while still maintaining their distinct identity. Achieving perfect equilibrium and harmony, they transcend the duality of opposites, symbolized by the two fishes bound to each other's tails, signifying the cessation of polarization within them.
When Mahatmas attain such exalted states, their activities and demeanor diverge markedly from conventional norms. They possess a balanced, tranquil mind like the serene waters of a still lake, reflecting higher realms without distortion. This state finds resonance in Cancer, the fifth sign from Pisces, symbolizing tranquility and reflection. Hence, Pisces-born individuals tend to exhibit philosophical inclinations, superstition, reverence for the divine, and a deep-seated concern for humanity's vast potential. They often speak of mythological greatness and seek to awaken the latent powers dormant within humankind. In the lives of such individuals, one observes a departure from typical psychological responses; they possess a strong will, endeavoring to foster peace and harmony on their own terms.
The seventh sign from Pisces corresponds to Virgo, symbolizing sacrifice, tolerance, and altruism. Pisces-born individuals inherently possess this predisposition in their life endeavors. The seventh house, representing partnerships, polarization of the individual, and the arena of action, underscores that Pisces ascendants, despite their material circumstances influenced by various planetary configurations, are inherently inclined towards altruism. Their lives are often characterized by acts of sacrifice. In a manner reminiscent of Lord Vishnu, who relinquished his celestial freedom to aid the world and safeguard the wisdom of the Vedas, Pisces ascendants are willing to forgo personal pleasures and comforts to preserve individuals, principles, traditions, or organizations. Frequently, Pisces-born individuals exhibit hearts of gold, yet endure immense suffering seemingly undeservedly.
Pisces natives are inherently driven to free humanity. The tenth sign from Pisces ascendant is Sagittarius, which compels individuals to initiate changes within themselves and their environment. Symbolically, the horse within man—the base instincts or animalistic tendencies—must undergo transformation under the influence of Sagittarius, leading towards spiritual elevation and the pursuit of higher ideals, symbolized by the upward trajectory of an arrow shot upward. This illustrates the daily challenges faced by Pisces ascendants as they strive to transcend mediocrity and ascend beyond conventional norms. They possess an innate ambition and an insatiable drive for improvement, often encountering obstacles in their quest for transformation. Inner peace is achieved through embracing the struggles and trials of life. When turmoil is accepted as an inherent aspect of existence, true peace descends upon the individual. This acceptance and endurance of trials represent the tapas (the spiritual discipline) of Pisces ascendants.
All of that said, there is still a darker side to Pisces. See, Pisces isn’t just the Messiah. It is also the ostensible anti-Christ. In Pisces, there is no separation between good and evil. Each individual who is Pisces-born will reach their objectives through whatever means possible, and for many that is through pure, universal love and compassion, in line with classical morality. While for others, there can be an attempt to uproot all previous establishments and put an end to the hum-drum of material life, inciting the chaos that freedom can inevitably threaten. In their quest to transcend the limitations of illusory confines, Pisces-born natives may engage in behaviors that seem unconventional or even highly taboo to society as a way to demonstrate disregard to the made-up rules placed upon them, all in an attempt to “wake up” society, which does not often go as planned. This is why some associated aspects of Pisces include acts like cannibalism or murder, which symbolize the devouring and destruction of the material ego to force the assimilation into the spiritual. Furthermore, Pisces is associated with the destruction of societal structures and institutions, which is a bit contradictory given the previous indications of them wanting to uphold institutions for the better. This is not an endorsement of chaos or anarchy but rather a reflection of Piscean energy's tendency to challenge and disrupt established norms and conventions. Pisceans may feel compelled to dismantle societal constructs that perpetuate illusion and separation, seeking to awaken humanity to the underlying unity of all existence— to the absurdity of society’s rules. Pisces serves as a reminder of the complexity and depth of the human experience. While Pisceans may challenge societal norms and engage in unconventional behaviors, their underlying intention is one of spiritual awakening and liberation. It is through confronting the shadows within ourselves and society that we are able to transcend dualistic perception and realize our true nature as spiritual beings.
Jupiter is the ruler of Pisces, endowed with the capacity to enhance the Bhava it governs or inhabits. However, at this stage of cosmic evolution, Jupiter is seen as being much more harsh. He remains forgiving and nurturing, but it is at a point where this becomes harmful. In its role as the ascendant lord, Jupiter encourages the growth and prosperity of the individual in the earthly realm, but this can bode danger. Jupiter possesses the inherent ability to unveil the spiritual essence within individuals, and spiritually often gives rise to frustration when the ego confronts material limitations. For Pisces ascendants, the domains of the 12th and 11th houses are governed by Saturn, emblematic of the staunch materialist. Consequently, any material rewards bestowed upon Pisces ascendants may fail to elicit significant appreciation. Thus, despite their aspirations for a fulfilling life, Pisces ascendants often find themselves grappling with a sense of restlessness. It is worth noting that Jupiter, as a benefic lord of a cardinal house, may not fully realize its potential to bestow benefic influences. The frustration can grow to a point where it breaks the individual, growing them into a monster— where the lack of boundaries between self and other become sadistic ie “you’re me, so I can do whatever I want to you.”
Mercury holds a unique relationship with Pisces, governing its 4th and 7th houses. This connection underscores the vital association between the higher and lower aspects of the mind, or, put differently, the physical and spiritual intellect. Harmony between these faculties is paramount for Pisces individuals to lead a balanced life. Without such equilibrium, there is a risk of succumbing to neuroticism, cynicism, and emotional imbalance. Pisceans face their greatest trials from women, worldly pleasures, and intoxicants. When the ego becomes ensnared by the allure of worldly progress and indulgence, life becomes fraught with complications. Venus, the ruler of worldly delights, not only opposes Jupiter, the ascendant lord for Pisces, but also governs the 3rd and 8th houses from the ascendant, which are traditionally deemed inauspicious. Consequently, expecting support from Venus proves futile and often leads to frustration. In light of these factors, it is logical to conclude that Pisces is an inherently auspicious sign, acknowledged as such by ancient religions. This sign symbolizes the divine assistance rendered to the material world's existence. In their daily lives, Pisces-born individuals facilitate the growth and multiplication of others, often at their own expense. Material rewards hold little satisfaction for them, as their true fulfillment lies in serving humanity and realizing their spiritual purpose. By harmonizing their minds and transforming logical intellect into intuitive wisdom, they gain insights into the true purpose of their existence. These souls are destined to guide humanity towards the realization of its latent divine potential. Their happiness and balance are found in working towards noble ideals and the advancement of human progress, while indulgence in sensual pleasures and worldly pursuits proves detrimental to their well-being.

2024.04.29 04:12 timidavid350 Marketing is not Advertising
Might be useful memo. Never thought about it this way so I thought I'd share.
A lot of people equate marketing and advertising. But advertising is only a small subset of marketing. Marketing starts with the conception of an idea, lives throughout the iterative process of game design, and carries the game into the hands of the audience once its complete.
Marketing is finding and studying the "market" for your game. That also means making games that are "Marketable". An unmarketable game won't find an audience, since there is no "market" for it. Thus will fail. Maybe a gross simplification, but it follows through logically.
When people say your game failed because it lacked marketing that isn't just a failure in advertising. Its a failure from the beginning of development. You failed to make a marketable game!
So I think its something to keep in mind when you start projects, at least projects that you want to become commercial "successes". I put success in quotes because that's something you decide yourself.
Remember to actually study the market, keep up to date with trends, and most importantly establish and talk to your actual audience. Don't make assumptions on what you think they'd want, or even worse make a game you'd only want... actually go out and test those assumptions! Talk to people, gamers, your audience. Toss them a demo, videos, screenshots, anything. Get feedback and iterate. And you're on your way to building a marketable game.
One thing I noticed is that a lot of the outsizing successes in the indie space built their audience during development. (Stardew Valley, Terraria, Rimworld, Minecraft...) Which lends credence to marketing being a constant process interwined with the development process more than some may think.
If you don't already, you ought to start treating marketing as important as the lines of code you write, or the design documents you update, or the art and music you integrate.
Anyways, I'm not going to pretend I'm an marketing expert guru, take all of this with a heavy grain of salt! Buckets of salt even. But generally with my continual reading up and learning about marketing, this is just one of the general conclusions I've come to! So I hope it helps any of you with your games.
Oh and never forget. Keep making games. First game fails. Make another. Keep going. Keep making games.
If success was truly down to the chance of a dice roll, then you'd roll it as many times as you can right?
And if you never get a success, your backlog of games will make a fine living indeed.

2024.04.29 04:11 South_Avocado2942 Lucci design improvements
| I’d say awakened lucci is my second favorite character design in the series (my first one being page ones hybrid form). I was thinking that besides the blacks smoke and sharper teeth his awakened form looks very similar to his pre-time skip skinny form. I think it would’ve been cool if oda took inspiration from the splotches on king cheetahs to add a little more flare. Hopefully one days someone will make fan art of it submitted by South_Avocado2942 to OnePiece [link] [comments] |
2024.04.29 04:03 ScarletRainCove Preparing yourself for a good thrifting experience
I don’t know if I’m going to get downvoted for this, but I want honest advice or opinions. I go to Savers maybe once a month, go to used book stores, browse eBay, etc. I found great used stuff when I moved to my house 2 years ago, including lamps, a fancy fan, an Art Deco print, metal yard furniture, a solid wood dining table, etc. I love the idea of toning down consumerism and boycotting companies like Amazon. But I feel like lately I get so overwhelmed when I go thrifting. The crowds, the weird mothball smell, and all the stuff often make me end up leaving without checking out what I’m looking for (I just want a nice mirror and a nice vase, lol). There’s a small thrift shop in the downtown area where I live that’s so crammed with stuff you can barely walk the narrow corridors. Then there are fancier ones that can be super overpriced. I’ve found some places that are better at organizing and curating stuff, but I don’t want to be a snob about it. There are also some pretty cool flea markets in the summer.
I love people posting great finds and feel lame because I chicken out. I want to know how to enjoy it or learn how to find the stuff I want.
How do you go in without getting overwhelmed (I’m an anxious person with agoraphobia)? How to you just enjoy it and discover cool shit?

2024.04.29 03:46 ExperienceDue7761 Best art/print shops in Cambridge?
Hi all! I’m looking to find some nice art for my apartment, specifically arts/prints of Cambridge or Boston. I went to Ward Maps recently and got a really cool antique Boston map, but am also looking for more art or paintings of the city, maybe even made by local print shops or artists. Any suggestions welcome! I’d love to support some local small businesses

2024.04.29 03:38 DARK_SCIENTIST Finished Xenoblade Chronicles DE for my first time. This series has moved into my top favorites. Here are my highlights.
After finishing XC3, I decided to back up and play this game and XC2 before I play Future Redeemed. I felt like I enjoyed this one almost as much as XC3 and I have to say, they are some of my favorite games now.
This one in particular gave me some great context after finishing XC3. A few big things being:
- Everything about Bionis and Mechonis
- Melia’s backstory, which also explains stuff like how I was confused by Eunie’s wings and didn’t know where her and the others like her came from, and a lot more.
- More broadly, High Entia lore. As in, why they understood mixing their genetics with the Homs bloodline was necessary for their race’s survival.
As for this game: Favorite playable character: Melia
Favorite narrative character: Also Melia. She is just an amazing character. I feel discouraged that I had no idea how great she was when I played XC3. That said, Fiora is my runner up.
Favorite area aesthetic: Had to be Saturn, Jupiter etc. for me. I’m a space nerd so I loved that little surprise. (Honorable mention: Eryth Sea)
Favorite cutscene: Shulk reawakening to slice up telethia right in time (beginning of Ch.17).
Favorite art: Final Cross. It was just way too cool every time Fiora used it.
Favorite background music: Valak Mountain (honorable mention: Mechonis Field)
Favorite song: “Sorrow”. I got a shiver up my back every time it came on. (“Memories” is a close second place)
Most frustrating plot point: Dickson’s betrayal. He was so obviously shady the entire game, but he still managed to shoot Shulk in the back.
Favorite story moment: When Shulk and Fiora are reunited 🥹
What I’ll miss the most: HAMAAAAA BEATO DA! Final thoughts: The parallel between Zanza’s way of thinking and [XC3 spoiler]
Z’s kind of blew my mind. Same with the revelation that Alvis was basically a computer system prior to the universe being recreated.
I have to say this: When I beat XC3 I felt so overwhelmed. Again with this game, I just hoped everyone could be happy. I thought for sure they were going to kill Fiora. When I saw
her and Shulk got a happy end, I teared up when the credits rolled.
The updated title screen of them all sitting together on the dock was the icing on the cake 🥹
I haven’t played the following yet: XC2, Torna, Future Connected, Future Redeemed
So, I’m off to play
those for my first time! I can’t wait to see the areas, hear the music, discover the story etc. These games are something special.
