2024.05.14 19:03 rj16x Can my employer discipline me over this?

So this afternoon in the work group chat the message comes in as follows;
Boss : [unrelated message]
Boss: And no talking about pay!!
Me: to customers or eachother?
Boss: Too anyone
Me: [Screenshot of the 2010 Equality Act, stating Employees have a right to discuss Salary and employers have no legal standing to stop you talking about what you earn]
Boss: Wow
I’m not in work today so I have no idea what brought this message on, and I’m now concerned I probably shouldn’t have done that but I’m annoyed at the random rules he’s trying to enforce. And for extra context, we haven’t had our contracts yet, so no one has signed anything agreeing to anything of the sorts. What legal standing do I have with this, if he chooses to discipline me over this?

2024.05.14 19:00 Th3Kill1ngMoon Katana Man is screwed

Asa vs Katana man fight next week woop woop he’s toast, his toxic masculine ass is finished🗣️🗣️🔊🔊🔥🔥🔥🔥
Anywho this last chapter has confirmed an idea I’ve had going around my head; Denji is becoming a worse Devil Hunter by the day. This chapter we see him straight up sympathizing with people completely unrelated to him, feeling remorse for things he inadvertently caused. The #1 factor of a devil hunter’s proficiency as stated by multiple characters in part 1 is being fucked in the head. Denji in part 1 was the shining example of the ideal Devil Hunter.
Part 2 Denji has always been more mature and thoughtful/mindful, but he’s always kept that edge to him. As part 2 has progressed we’ve seen him very slowly but very surely become more and more normal. This could lead into a number of things, the 2 paths I see forward being:
  1. He WILL give up being Chensoman, something Fujimoto himself has heavily alluded to in an interview saying something like “to me, the only proper ending to a superhero story is the hero giving up”. This has to some extent been the most important subject in part 2. To be Chainsaw Man or not to be, also a callback to themes of part 1, city mouse or country mouse.
  2. The darker and more dreadful path, Denji keeps being Chainsaw Man but with time gets worse and worse at it. He grows and starts recognizing further the disgusting sides of this life, but still unable to let go of the euphoria, of the adrenaline, he keeps going until it eventually spells his doom. Or he lives on forever Fire Punch style and we end up with an extremely miserable Denji, being immortal and still trying to hold on to that Chainsaw Man mantle he’s become basically addicted to.
Yeah yeah I know the city mouse or country mouse has been an explicit theme since part 1 but it’s very cool seeing Fujimoto put the building blocks in real time. And for the first time ever I believe I see a possible conclusion to csm. The story depending on the ending will be about a man trying desperately to hold onto something that’s simultaneously destroying him, akin to an addiction. Or it’ll be Fujimoto’s ideal hero story where the hero will hang up their hat and let the world run its course, the price of trying to help not being worth the hero’s own destruction, or something like that anyways.
TLDR part 2 is leaning heavily on the city mouse or country mouse dilemma. Yeah big breakthrough I know anyways great chapter btw 10/10, feels very classic csm in a way. Praying on Katana Man’s downfall

2024.05.14 18:54 Sharinganedo Accident claim- who talks to who

So my sister had an accident this morning. Someone pulled out in front of her (She has dashcam footage of everything, plus police report) and her car is totalled since the airbags deployed. She's also getting checked out at an ER to make sure she's just battered and bruised up.
Now, when it comes to the insurance, my mom has been "helping" her and I told my sister to just tell her to let our insurance (Nationwide) know and get the info for an adjustor. They have also filed that they were the other person with State farm which is the other persons insurance. I told them to not talk anymore to state farm and just redirect anything from them to whoever will be handling their case at Nationwide. Is that the appropriate way to handle the whole insurance stuff so that everything gets handled correctly and my sister doesn't get lowballed on a payout?

2024.05.14 18:52 nixsto How will i survive as a teacher?

I plan to become a teacher in my near future. In my state the average salary is between 30k-50k a year. Im currently looking towards an internship my senior year of high school, because my school offers it. Im going to split my college, off campus community for two years and off campus four year for my bachelor's and possibly masters. My parents are letting me stay with them throughout my first two years of college. I want to have two kids in the future. I feel like ill barely be able to live off of that alone, what happens when i build a family? want pets? need to move? need to invest in important things? i feel kind of confused and a bit worried on how im going to live. No matter what i will not be changing my career path, but how do teachers live off of a salary like that?

2024.05.14 18:43 laahaa Should I move? Possibly have mold in apartment, but cannot find a better place

Live in an apartment in Seattle. Upstairs pipe broke in the end of March. The landlord fixed the broken pipe one week later. However, they did not vent the ceiling drywall well before seal the ceiling. The drywall was wet for almost a month (moisture level > 25%, while the normal level should be <12%). There had been intolerable musty smell since I found the ceiling leak. I guess the smell comes from mold in between drywalls. They drilled holes to ventilate after my complaints and the moisture of the drywall is normal now.
I'm worried about the mold and wanted to move out. I'm currently on monthly lease, which gives me flexibility. However, after searching for a new place in the 3 weeks, I cannot find a better one than my current place: the options are either expensive, noisy or at the basement. If it wasn't the concern about the mold,
Things make me want to leave:
  1. Potential mold growth
    1. There was a musty smell when the ceiling leak started. The smell was still strong when the landlord drilled holes on the ceiling to ventilate 3 weeks after the pipe was fixed.
    2. I used home mold test kit to test the airborne mold. It's positive. (How accurate is it? Based on some search, it seems those kits are not accurate?)
Things make me incline to stay and see:
  1. Cannot find a better place than my current one
  2. Mold growth is no visible and the smell seems to disappear, almost(?)
    1. No mold allergic symptoms for now. However, I have been out of town and I've only stayed at my unit for 2 weeks consecutively after the ceiling leak. Mold impact probably takes longer to observe.
    2. The ceiling drywall seems to be dry now after ventilation. They sprayed some Clorox / mold killer before sealing the ceiling.
    3. I ventilate my apartment quite a lot and I'm on the 3rd floor. My apartment itself probably isn't humid.
  3. On monthly lease. Probably have the flexibility to stay and move when I see mold infection symptoms? But I'm afraid the health impact of mold would be irreversible.
So I started wondering, how dangerous is my current apartment due to mold? Is it better to stay rather than move? How can I do to assure myself my unit is ok / not ok to stay? Washington only requires landlord to fix the root cause of ceiling leak but does not ask landlord to inspect / address the mold (reference). Is mold inspection reliable and worth it and should I get one?

2024.05.14 18:37 Mark_Alpha_JDS Emigration Questions ($, Employer, Logistics) (UK -> US)

I’ve been blown away by the level of responsiveness and expertise from Redditors for a few related topics which have been a huge help to me. Thanks in advance for any feedback here and I hope I’m in the right place!
I’m in a level of ‘negotiation’ with my Employer (a global Tech company) about a relocation from Southend, SE England to either Alpharetta or Tampa as part of a promotion within my existing Team on what is expected to be a ‘3 year gig’ (at which point the company is expected to be sold which would inevitably see changes of personnel almost certainly those who I am currently ‘negotiating’ with!). Naturally there are a million and one things to consider, especially as a (married) father of two young children.
As I await more formal details of the offer (including the $!), I am trying to speed through all the various research needed which I am simplifying into the below, in order to make negotiations effective and ultimately lead up to a point where I will be able to make an actual decision (likely in the next two weeks)
  1. Understanding the ancillary costs associated with relocating to the US as well as the expected on-going living costs in either location (to also include the likely requirement to relocate BACK in ~3 years time)
  2. Understanding which of the many risks associated with this opportunity I should attempt to have mitigated by my Employer
  3. Understanding any fundamental blockers/showstoppers that could prevent the move from being viable
I’m starting to build up a picture across all three but there were some specific questions I’d really appreciate some insights on. We’re mostly concerned about the number of ‘hidden’ costs there may be, to the extent where the financial gains we are expecting could end up being significantly diminished by the end of the 3 year period (our main objective here is primarily to financial gain – to ideally outright purchase a large family house back in the UK after 3 years and not primarily the ‘experience’ for our family, which we would of course consider a bonus).
·
·
Entirely personal, but also wondering on recommendations for Alpharetta vs Tampa? It would seem cost of living would be comparable (of course, dependent on neighbourhood) with the major differences being probably differences in climate, and I suspect Tampa would be generally much busier, perhaps less safe? For a reasonable 3 bed house it seems around $3K rent per month is the norm, with Alpharetta prices seemingly due to proximity to the tech hubs and Tampa due to the pull of the beaches, climate?
My Wife and I are very excited about the prospect, just trying to be as cautious as possible especially given this will be likely to move quickly!
Many thanks in advance
Mark

2024.05.14 18:17 PinkGummyBear74 I (33F) found out my boyfriend (36M) emotionally cheated on me when we first started dating. How can I get past this?

Long time lurker, first time posting because I’m in need of advice and it’s eating away at me. I can’t really speak about this to anyone in my circle.
I apologize for the long post in advance.
So, my (33F) boyfriend (36M) and I have been together a little over two years. I don’t think I’ve ever loved anyone this much.
Bit of relevant background information: My BF was married for 9, almost 10 years. He has two kids from said marriage. (2 boys). She cheated on him with at least 3 people (that he knows of) and only cared about how much money he could provide for the family and disregarded his feelings constantly. (Telling him to “man up”, “stop crying and be a man”, “it’s not a real job unless you’re making six figures”, “this guy at work has bigger muscles than you, he’s so hot to look at”), would drain their bank account on whatever she pleased, including supporting her best friend’s drug habit and run ins with the law. The list goes on. She was his first….everything. Kiss, sex, marriage, etc.
I found out recently that about a month or two after we started dating, he was flirting with/hyping up his ex wife through text messages, and was expressing doubts about me. I never felt the need to go through his phone till I just had that gut feeling. I'm an overthinker, and I remember seeing how much he used to be glued to his phone vs now years later. It was always conveniently his ex's name popping up as well. Seeing as to how we agreed to an open phone policy early on in the relationship due to trust issues from past relationships, I decided to act on it. I fucked around and found out.
Hyping her up was obviously an issue on its own; However, he also seemed to be putting me down in the process of trying to make her feel better about herself. She was complaining about her insecurities. He was saying stuff like “Stop it. You’re the most attractive person I’ve ever been with. You’re a goddamn smoke show”. Then proceeded to list all of her positive physical attributes, along with how he didn’t know if he really found me physically attractive.
Despite how she treated him, they had a very active sex life. He was simultaneously complaining to her that we (him and I) weren’t having sex enough at the time (fair, I was anxious about sex in general due to past trauma from multiple abusive relationships). It took me a couple months to feel “safe enough” to open up sexually and for us to have a regular sex life. whereas he was telling her how he missed sex with her, they just should’ve made more time dedicated to their sex life around the kids.
The thing is, I never felt any indication of this at the time. He seemed to be understanding of my past sexual trauma, my hesitancies to trust another man, ensuring me that he was willing to wait as long as it took for me to feel comfortable with him (including sexually), everything. Always telling me I was attractive in various ways. How excited he was to get to know me; Would constantly tell me no woman made him feel so valued, like he was worth their time. Now I can’t help but to wonder what else he seemingly lied about. Or how much did he even mean what he said in the beginning while still fawning over her at the same time unbeknownst to me.
After those few text messages though, this type of talk seemed to stop. It went to strictly business only. Only interacting when its about the kids. No multiple paragraph messages reminiscing on their love for each other. No telling her how hot she is compared to me, nothing. They just stopped around the time he started to tell me he loved me.
Long story less long, I confronted him about these messages when I found them last week. I sobbed, he sobbed. He apologized profusely, stating he was just so unsure of me in the beginning and resorted to someone that was a source of comfort in the past (which I don’t get because, well, she treated him awful for the last like…6 years of their marriage). He then said something about how she was the only person he went to for external problems in the past because he doesn’t have many friends and he would vent to her about work, his family, etc. So again, she was basically all he knew from a young age. He then stated I’ve shown him what a healthy relationship is supposed to be like. That he feels he had rose colored glasses even then. To where he felt like he could somehow re-kindle with her. But he knows now that if he ended up doing that, he would’ve been miserable anyway. He made it a point to tell me he loves ME, not her; And that he doesn’t want to be with anyone else but me, how much he loves me, etc.
He has basically been my constant source of happiness, safety, and comfort until now. Now all I see are the text messages. I have a hard time feeling like he’s truly even attracted to me. He DOES constantly tell me I’m beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, a “goddess”, etc. But he also did in the beginning of our relationship when those messages were sent to her. Or maybe he’s only slightly attracted to me but regardless, in my mind, I am always being compared to his ex wife and I just don’t…measure up physically. I know I have quite a bit of insecurities and self esteem issues when it comes to my body/face. I have struggled feeling pretty/hot/whatever enough since I was a child. (Long story but for very valid reasons). However, before these messages, I was able to ignore them and just be happy. Now? I’m just not as pretty as her. Her hair is longer than mine. Her makeup is better than mine. I’m curvy/thick, she’s skinny and in perfect shape. I can’t stop comparing myself to her and I’m…going insane. Or so it feels. I just can’t compete with her physical beauty. I can’t compete with her having all of his firsts. I feel like she was the love of his life simply because of their time together and the fact she gave him his pride and joy-his kids. I mean, who forgets their first love? I can't compete with that bond they share. I can’t stop crying about it.
I guess I'm just curious if anyone here went through something similar, and maybe has some tips for finding their self worth again? Feeling pretty again? Or if anyone thinks him and I can move past this without the constant sting of betrayal looming around.
TL;DR: Boyfriend emotionally cheated on me with his ex wife at the beginning of our relationship. I’m finding out now after 2 years together. He states it was due to being unsure of me in the beginning of our relationship, but he’s never been more sure of me now. He was unsure of marrying ever again until he met me How do I recover from the insecurities this has caused to be brought back out unexpectedly? Was anyone here able to move on after something similar?

2024.05.14 18:12 Flametang451 The Primordial Paradox, Religious Diversity, and Free Will

In the modern age, I think one of the biggest questions anybody has had to deal with in a increasingly interconnected world from a religious perspective is the nature of how religious diversity came to be- not just internally, but externally.
The quran seems to at times explain religious diversity as a natural consequence and even ordainment upon humanity (5:48 and 10:99 come to mind here- if both are linked with each other than such would mean that some nations are meant to be as they are- even if they are what we would categorize as non monothiestic.
Quranically, such a nation could be seen potentially in Surah Yusuf. Egypt in this time is clearly implied to be pagan with Yusuf's conversation with his cellmates (12:36-42), and again in how the king's laws were different from Yusuf's (12:76). Yet the people in this verse seem to almost solely call on Allah only (when the egyptians speak of divinity, the word lilahi is used in places such as 12:31 and 12:51). If we assume the Wife of Al Aziz (Zuleikha as she is spoken of in exegesis, but also Rael) is speaking in 12:53, she does the same. In contrast, Egypt in the time of Musa amongst those who followed the Pharaoh mention waālihataka in the context of divnity- translated to multiple gods by most*).*
This could be a henotheistic situation like with the Quraish, but Prophet Yusuf aside from the prison does not do much preaching. There is a mention in Surah Ghafir (40:34) that Yusuf was rejected by the folk of Egypt, but this opens up more questions than answers (Egypt was not destroyed in Yusuf's time nor punished, nor does the quran call it's folk of that time disbelivers or mushrikeen....despite clearly being pagan. Neither does god state at any point that Yusuf was ordained to preach in Egypt. Yusuf likely was in Egypt during the Second Intermediate or Middle Kingdom Periods based on the ruler being referred to as a king if we attempt a historical contextualization, which were both dominated by pagan orthodoxy in the country.
Any criticisms on religion come from people that god narrates speaking, but not god themselves. It seems a small, but significant difference in comparison to how other nations in the quran are spoken of. 40:35 seems to continue on from this- but this verse may be unrelated to the matter (it also seems to be essentially be an allusion to cult like practices- the verse itself reads in what appears to be an orwellian matter in that folk should not question revelation at no point ever- it seems to follow in the maxim of such- "blessed are the minds who do not doubt, and cursed are those who do". Thus, it likely can and has been used to justify corrupt religious orthodoxies and institutions by silencing concerns of the layfolk, by arguing people do not have authority to question scripture or what it means. Essentially, it isn't blind following in all cases that the quran dislikes, but blind following of the right path is fine (and what "right" is can thus be made subjective to satisfy end goals). At the very least, from this verse solely. This would also likely be a favorite verse of those looking to justify spiritual abuse under the guise of well intentions.)
but at other times sems to argue that humans at some point recognized god for what they are, and that they chose to accept some kind of trust which seems to be in relation to living as humans, almost subliminally arguing that all people are somehow secretly aware of allah. Yet the quran also mentions that many folk can also be unaware or not know of god, that cities were not punished because they did know of a matter- that is the whole point of sending messengers. This in itself is an established point in jurispedence.
The verses that seem to indicate this are 7:172 and in 33:72. 33:72 seems to indicate man was very hasty in taking on said trust, to an almost shortsighted degree. However, 7:172 essentially opens up a serious question about personhood.
The claim that all folk somehow were brought forth in a primordial state to testify to god is a quran only claim- it is not as if we can go and ask somebody this happened. More importantly, considering that the quran directly shows evidence of god's interference with human consciousness by sealing hearts and ordaining paths or belief systems upon nations, we would not be able to gain a verifiable answer anyway. Since ideologies and understandings of the world are what influence actions (not the other way around, as a choice taken is always made in due part due to the convictions of a person), then it stands to reason that god sets both the cause and effect.
This would also justify fatalism (I've seen some try to argue for qadr allowing free will, but most arguments seem to be that there is a script but you can influence it a tad....which means we are mostly still bound by outside forces. The quran is even more confusing on this matter- at times it argues god is the only reason people believe or not, yet when the quraishi pagans use this very argument, they are accused of being decietful. The quran seems to want to uphold god's omnipotence and free will, and yet since the two will clash, seems to bungle both. The fact that the quran implies god created men to be upon the earth also seem to imply that humanity's acceptance of this trust and the expulsion of adam and hawwa seems to imply either events may not have been entirely free will oriented, but rather parts in a script that were unalterable (the fact that shaytan somehow managed to slink his way into heavean even after being banished seems to suggest that). Puppets on a stage, if you will, with long enough string that it looks like they have free will.
As for the issue of the primordial, what makes this so confusing is that it seems something from before birth (the opening of the book of deeds), is being taken into account in judgment. Generally, life is assumed to have begun at birth, not before.
The only way I could see this working is one of 3 methods- 1) mass mind wipes, 2) dharmic-style reincarnation, 3) ship of Theseus.
If we assume mass wind wipes were done prior to birth, then one should wonder why a person with no memories is being beholden to somebody who had said memories. Would the latter have done the same as the former? If we look at today, most wouldn't take up something so high stakes (existing as a human). Anti-natalism is a philosophical current in the modern day for a reason.
If we assume dharmic style reincarnation (the prototype souls were all regressed from being sapient to being infants), then essentially a lesser form of death has been experienced (the former cannot be seen as fully equivilent to the latter, and it cannot be possible to state either state would do the same actions in taking up the trust).
If we assume a ship of Theseus situation- god replaced each component of the old proto-souls with something new then but kept the same form- are those the same person as before? Is the delineation point form over substance? It doesn't seem like they are.
The only way that I could see this working is that the recognition of god is merely a recognition of the absolute in some form. How that happens in the living world is wildly dependent on various factors as enshrined by god or human actions. What may appear to be non belief in god may be in a sense, belief in some of his attributes. This is a mostly akbarian approach from what I can tell (though islam as a whole would be the most ideal path to take, it does not negate or subsume the others), but it seems to help avoid issues of mass damnation of humanity, and overall uphold god's mercy and salvation for other peoples.
Though one can argue since the quran mentions hell will be filled up, with all the nature of people being chosen to be guided or not, it could very well be the quran is arguing to a Calvinist style elect which would be seriously grim). Sometimes I wonder if in reading the quran pessimistically, is that perhaps how we should read it? It would lend itself to a more misotheistic understanding of god (as being evil or useless, but since the abrahamic god is all powerful, the former is the only possible approach in such a thought cycle- all actions would need to be reanalyzed as being conducive to some malevolent end.).
Of course, such a being would need to be rejected- if such a being would truly exist, and god was truly that- the only worship they deserve is to have their worship thrown into a fire and burned to never rise again. Essentially, allowing for the trust to be accepted by humanity was but the beginning of a series of malevolent machinations. To what end would be unknowable, but nothing good in general. It would be the inverse of the muslim thought process which argues even if we do not know something's occurence, there may be good in it. I'm not sure if this would be pessimism or simply being realistic or optimism vs cynicism sometimes between the two approaches.
Some would likely call such a view bizarre, but others would likely call it liberation from oppression, the only logical way to see faith, and an end to the evils of faith. I do wonder sometimes....in the modern day, the very concept of god by some is seen as having been the source of all, or perhaps most, evils. Granted, governments that espoused atheism were hardly better, but one could easily argue they made a cult out of their leaders, and thus see that as some kind of faith and condemn that.
If a prophet were to be sent down today, they wouldn't be dealing with people who would see miracles and scoff at them being of demonic origin, they would argue that and that even if they were from god, there's no guarantee god is good, citing history as their defense, or analogies to god as being an abuser, or that faith in anything at all in a religious context is a harmful thing. I wonder sometimes how a prophet of the past would react to that sentiment. It's not as if people are worshipping themselves, and even if they did try that argument of being beholden to one's desires- people would probably argue back that such an argument usually is used to justify abuse of people by depriving them of freedoms and safety, citing examples to do so. Or perhaps arguing in that god's mercy always comes with a price, or maybe by arguing heaven and hell both are eldritch hellscapes that lead to loss of self and existential horrors, or that faith in itself demands orwellian adherence and mindless obedience in one way or another- thus, corruption in religious institutions and the stifling of free thought isn't a bug, but a feature of faith. Granted, I'm sure all of these could be argued against in one way or another.
Ultimately, I think overall, god must be seen as being of mercy firstly. Otherwise, if this is overpowered at all times by other attributes, we wind up with all kinds of uneasy implications.

2024.05.14 18:10 silverkiki0527 Container homes business.

Has anyone worked on a container home business? This business takes raw containers and makes them into homes. The main questions my firm is trying to navigate are:
-Defending the property as tangible personal property for the reduced sales tax rate pertaining to modular homes
-5 year depreciation for tangible personal property
-Collecting sales tax on out of state sales when the company is delivering vs when a third party is delivering
-Implications of use tax referring to out of state sales
Obviously the goal is to do everything correctly and be audit proof especially in reference to sales tax. Any advice and case law or precedent you can refer me to would be appreciated.
