Remake ideas

2024.05.06 09:16 Manjane996 Remake ideas

If the original PS1 trillogy got remade what features would you keep and what would you change?
-Obviously the core story should remain the same but with some up to date narative tweaks (Teresa's "death" should be handled better for example) and expanded character backgrounds especially side characters like Girdeaux or omitting some altogether like Erikson in SF1.The boss and mini boss fights should be reworked to become more complex with a hidden gimmick or just to be more challlenging (the iconic ones like Girdeaux for example should retain the original idea but be more polished ). I feel like the remake should only add content since there are no redundant levels in my opinion.
-Make it a single game (like with Crashes N'sane trillogy) with the same number of missions maybe add some new ones to expand the story.
-The parallel missions in SF2 where Gabe is at the mountain while Lian is at the air base is a great idea that can be implemented to add a couple more levels.Maybe in SF1 have a stealth section with Mara trying to capture Phagan at the Pharcom Expo Centre or her escape from the agency after that.Jenkins having his team attacked in DC and even playing as one of the CBDC agents it can be tied up nicely if they were some of the men that end up crashing with Gabe at the start of SF 2.
-Give the player an option where possible to remain undetected for as long as possible like in Rhoemers stronghold and make it impact the current level. For example guards being more or less hostile maybe even some different level routes and radiotraffic depending on the agro state and have it transfer to subsequent level to make it matter (not like in Rozovka where you remain undetected but in the bunkers it doesn't matter because ups the silent alarm has been trigered and the base is on alert anyway)
-Keep the game third person only that means no first person aiming and no auto lock as that would make it too easy today.Update the map to make it useful for orientating for a change😁.
-I personally love the mission briefing screen before the levels and would be very happy if that esthetic (the bluish colour outline that is also in the pause menu) could be preserved maybe have someone do a voiceover reading the text.Radiotraffic should stay it's a nice touch and it feels like you have a team behind you.
-The weapons are great they have the variety and are fun to use but i could see them being rounded up with some more realistic sounds.Maybe cut the weapons that seem repetitive like the Falcon in SF3 (we already have the shotgun and .45) or combine some of them into one like the sniper and nightvision sniper could be just one gun. There is no need for an inventory system or upgrades of any kind to weapons during the game.
-Flak jackets should stay and somekind of an indicator for headshots since they are the core mechanics of the game.Box pickups i would be ok to be mainly abandoned maybe have a new weapon introduced that way could be cool as homage to the original. The dying animations specific to the way killed are fun (choking from a gas grenade or shotgun like weapons pushing henchmen back is always satisfying). Both Taser variants should stay but maybe the long range one should be nerfed to balance the gameplay😁.
-Soundtrack is awesome and an integral part of the experience it should only get an upgrade in terms of quality no need to fix something that isn't broken.Voice acting and the lines in general obviously should get a fresh coat of paint but if possible like in the case of Gabe (John Chacon ) at least the VA should remain the same .
-The obejctives in the levels should remain linear but the player can tackle them in any order when possible and should be encouraged to explore the level to get some rewards for doing so a new weapon, easter egg or piece of dialog. Not to come across wrong the game should not become some open world game but rather just use the maps to their full potential.
Let's give some ideas to potential game developers so that they have a broad outline of a finished product and no excuses not to remake SF😁

Past Lives on Letterboxd
Watchedv1/28/24 Challenge started 5/18/23
Oh my goodness, here I go again. Saying hyperbolic fluff about some low budget indie film being one of the greatest films of the year.
Well, It's not my fault. This film is fantastic! The fact that this is a directorial debut floors me because this has been a great year for films and Past Lives is right up there with some of the best.
This is such a subtle, simple and honest tale about love transcending time, distance, cultural boundaries, and personal ambitions. But this is also a super complex film emotionally. This is a uniquely personal narative and a triumphant masterpiece of human experience and genuine feeling.
If you leave something behind, you gain something too. This is a story about the re-membering of one's childhood. Escaping the naive want to have a good life, the predictable day to day, always moving forward and not looking back, if only for a moment; The what ifs that linger after someone great in your life is gone and what it means to have them back once that time and space has changed. Profound stuff. I want her to have good memories and a good life. Nora's experience matters to me.
Speaking of Nora, holy moly, Greta Lee is absolutely stunning here! Her performance may be one of the most undersold or under appreciated aspects about this movie. She is uniquely charming, powerful, and vulnerable in her portrayl of Nora and deserves so many more roles and so many more accolades for it. One of the greatest revelations of the screen, all year.
I also love that it's nearly an hour into the film that you hear your first bit of real english dialoge. Up until then it's Korean. The film balances the two languages masterfully.
It's fascinating becasue you dont really get to know the characters well and you really only see them in moments years apart and most all the plot and character development comes from these conversations.
Also, the way certain characters interact is affected by this. Language. As a native English speaker, it is really fascinating to see when you're allowed in, and when you're not. (Subtitles just go away.) You may find yourself just as lost as some other character may be in the film... and that's the point. It's isolating, it's an affront to our American egos and plays on our jealousy. It's a profound interaction or interplay with the audience, and it's handled with such grace by the characters and by the director. (I'm trying to be vague here to not spoil anything.)
The Korean idea of Inyun is a beautiful notion and something that really touched me. The idea of providene in relationships and the overlapping of past lives is poetic. It made me think about my own relationships. This is an interesting, permeating philosophy.
The music is something real special here and it compliments the visual storytelling remarkably well.
Speaking of the visual storytelling, the cinematography is subtly outstanding. There are these amazing shots setup that just blew my mind. (Specifically the tracking shot on the train, and the kids separating on their walk.) This is visual art.
It doesn't go for cheap plot lines and theatrical gimmicks. And just feels authentic, real, and subtle.
This is a great film, that I really want to watch again.
A 4.5 out of 5.

2023.10.29 19:01 Dry_Willingness_8184 Problem: How to define peace?

A really big problem we need to move past is that "peace" is a really tricky concept. Is it a piece of paper two people sign on? Is it colaboration between two formally rival communities? And what about violence? If the two communities stop the violence but remain bitter enough that an insiting incident is enough to return to war, can we really call it an end to violence? Another big problem is that it's really easy to define a negative time like "war" or "plauge". When things are good we don't say they are good. We simply say they are "normal". So how can we talk about the existence of something we normally ignore as a given until it isn't?
Solution: we start with deviding "peace" into smaller chuncks. Even a smaller sample size. What does it mean for two people to be at peace? -to be able to talk to one another without fear. -to be able to live one near another without fear. -not having to worry about the other person plotting against you, directly as in physical or psychological attacks. -not having to worry about the other person setting other people against you, giving you a bad rep at work or at your social circles.
Through this we can set four goals that will define as the four ideals: -consistent comunication between the israeli and palestinian representatives in government. And the establishments of economic relations between israeli and palestinians individuals in fields relating to economy (working relations), education (how many teachers and researchers are there), and communication (publication in newspapers and news shows of both parties).
-consistent co-oppereations between the israeli IDF, israeli police force, the UN (cause let's be honset. It will take a whole lot of trust to allow a fully fuctioning palestinian army) and the palestinian police force in matter relating to terror and safety of communities. Allowing the israeli police to enter palestinian territories under threat of fundementalist terror. And allowing the palestinian police israeli territories under threat of fundemetalist terror. +legal reproccusion for peolpe from either side who make the area less safe.
-creating transperancy clauses between both governments. Making sure everything is on the table. Creating groups for palestinian and israeli dialog to convay both naratives of each group. Making sure schools don't promote racism or segregation.
-creating transperancy with the UN and the world in general. Create progrems to stop online slander of both isralies and palestinians. Making sure no global power (like Iran or the US) can attack one party without being forced to attack the other one too.
That is the genral idea. Where can we go next though?

2023.09.13 03:48 drdoodoot My theory about Papyrus's past.

First off, this isn't a joke theory. This isn't even a crackpot theory. This... is a game theory. Over the course of several hours, I have been pondering a question: who is Papyrus? Who is the skeletal saviour of Undertale? He's papyrus obviously. Well, yeah. But... WHO is Papyrus? What is his story? Over the course of the game we see part of his historical relevancy, but that is NOT the whole picture, not at all. No, this is a mere fraction of his life. We don't get the whole picture of his experiences. All we get is the Snowdin shopkeeper telling us that Papyrus and his brother just "showed up one day and asserted themselves". Obviously Papyrus and his brother didn't just appear from thin air, so where did they come from? What was theor life before snowdin? That is what I am going to be answering today. Papyrus' brother has already had his past focused on, thus I wont be covering it. I just don't feel the need to talk about earthbound when I have a feeling that the majority of people here are already aware of what I'm saying. No, today I'll be talking about Papyrus himself. So, ladies, gentle men, and all the genderless children in the audience, prepare to hear about... PAPYRUS' TRUE ORGINS... Now, first off, how can we decide where Papyrus started out in life? (as far as I know) We haven't been told only one single thing about where Papyrus used to live. We were told that there was green grass. "But u/drdoodoot!" (you may be wondering) "Grass is a very common thing! How does that narrow down where he was from?" And to that, I say: You are wrong. About how little it narrows it down, that is. In Undertale, we see grass (and grass specifically) in only 1 location. On the surface in the pacifist ending. Thus, we can reasonably conclude that Papyrus was from the surface and, due to being a human skeleton, he was also a human! But what human was he? Well, let's list off everything that greatly narrows down the list of possibilities. First: personality. Papyrus, from what I understand, has a positive personality. He has a generally upbeat tone to his dialog. However, at times he gets serious. This can be seen in his genocide dialog after getting decapitated (an event that we will come back to) His dialog, which is usually silly, goofy, and light-hearted, takes a sharp turn to being a more... negative tone. Granted, the dialog itself isn't negative. Quite the opposite. But what I mean by this is that it is fully serious. No jokes. No goofiness. No silly quips. Just Papyrus making his last mark on this world a desperate, and ultimately futile, attempt to sway you to the side of mercy. Even before the "fight" itself, Papyrus is calling you "a fricking weirdo". However, things soon take a turn for the worse, as stated before. Thus, we can make the first note that narrows the options down: a light-hearted tone taking a turn for the negative. Second: Other. You may be wondering why I'm covering everything that doesn't fit into any categories second, not third. Well, you'll see why later. For now though, we have to talk details. Things like the fact that his name has 3 syllables, or facial expressions. Like I saud, we have to talk details. If I miss any or get any wrong, feel free to correct me in the comments. For this analysis, we will be taking into consideration: syllables in their name, facial expressions, merchandise, injuries to body parts upon death(neck? why is this here?), how much they affect the overall story from a narative sense, and what the first vowel in their name is (its the letter A). Considering all of all of these, our list of candidates is lowerd drastically. However, we still have one last thing to go over... Third: How much I like them personally. IDK man, Papyrus best girl. Thrid (seriously this time): How noticably needed they are in narrative. In this category, I am talking about how much they add to the game and how much is... missing, without them. In Undertale, when you kill Papyrus, all of the locations where his brother would appear are now left empty. Before your fight with them Undyne talks about how Papyrus disappeared and how it was YOUR fault. The neutral mode endings are... missing something without Papyrus. Now, this may be because it's his brother calling you. Obviously the conversation is going to be a bit awkward if you killed the guy's brother. But the phone call is just missing... something. For the third category to apply, their absence would need to be noticable enough so that it effects the narrative. And here, we reach the end of the comparison. All the things that we will be comparing. I have personally added them all up and we have reached a shocking conclusion... a conclusion that is shocking... Papyrus's death isn't the only one turning off people from continuing the route where everyone dies because through everything I have looked at, I have come to the grand conclusion that the closest match is... SAYORI, from the game Doki Doki leterature club! Wasn't expecting THAT, were you? Now... we still have to answer the question from the start... Who is Papyrus? I mean, yeah, Sayori may be similar to him, but that doesn't mean that they're the same person, right...? Well, yeah. Just because they are similar doesn't mean that they're the same person. But, I wouldn't be making this argument if there wasn't any evidence. So, let me present to you the evidence. In the CHR file for Sayori in the steam version (I've only played the steam version so I'm not sure about everything else) The word "Omnipresent" can be found. What does Omnipresent mean? According to google: it means to be widely or constantly encountered; widespread. Who do you constantly find in Undertale? Papyrus. He has the most lines of dialog (aside from the narrator but I don't think people are ready for that theory) and so he is the most "omnipresent" of all the characters. But wait, doesn't Sayori get erased from existence? Yes, but let me propose another theory. After Sayori got erased, two different timelines got created. The first timeline is what I like to call the Gameplay timeline. That timeline is the one that we play through. Then, we have the narative timeline. In that timeline, Sayori stayed dead and wasn't erased from existence. I believe that somehow, she was revived as a skeletal monster, having lost her memories (because skeletons don't have brains dumbass) and starting life anew. Now, this theory may be seen as problematic. Most notably, how does Papyrus not know about Toriel or the sun in the pacifist ending? Simple. they were revived after the monsters got sealed underground, and over the course of time, the earth below the grave gave way causing Sayori's skeleton to fall into the underground. If you think I'm wrong then at least I didn't have to resort to "Gaster did it".

2022.02.12 21:50 iliass_aek Mac client, No audio

Hello,
This is my first day using Shadow, I encounter a weird issue related to audio:
System:
+ hardware: mac intel 2017
+ OS: Monterey 12.2.1
+ shadow client version: 5.0.1073
Problem description:
+ The problem happens only when i play video games. I cannot hear narative speech or character dialog, but the background sound work fine such as music, noises...
+ It's not a game setting problem since I reproduced the error on witcher 3 and hitman1.
+ When I use shadow app on iphone, everything works fine and audio runs smoothly so I think the problem is related to shadow mac client.
+ When i play music/youtube there is no problem.
Are there any mac users who can confirm this?
here is a quick video: https://youtu.be/WSMo8JsCTCk
Thank you :)

Critic Reviews

AusGamers - KostaAndreadis - 8.5 / 10
It gets a lot weirder from there.
Bazimag - Seyed Ali Rooholamini - Persian - 6.6 / 10
Chernobylite has many problems in its various parts, one of the most important of them is how monotonous the narative gets. This had good potential on paper but many big and small glaring shortcomings has made it not enough of an enjoyable experience. It is possible that avid fans of Eastern European titles will be able to fully connect with the game but it has pretty strong competitors in this particular style.
But Why Tho? - Arron Kluz - 7 / 10
Chernobylite is a solid package for any player looking for an original survival FPS with a lot of heart in it. The story is sufficient, but the game will really satisfy players who are looking for a difficult experience without holding their hand too much. For players looking for much more than just the gameplay, however, they may be left wanting.
COGconnected - Mark Steighner - 70 / 100
Chernobylite certainly has ambitions beyond being a rote shooter and although not everything meshes and the gears of its systems sometimes grind, the setting feels authentically haunted and foreboding. There’s a lot going on in Chernobylite, and sometimes the melancholic love story at the center gets buried under unnecessary game play complications, tepid combat or shifts of tone. In other words, it’s all still a bit messy but interesting and worth playing for shooter, RPG or horror fans, especially those fascinated by this particular moment in modern history.
Checkpoint Gaming - Charlie Kelly - 6 / 10
Have you ever played a game that has so many intriguing ideas that are begging to work but never quite reach that level? Chernobylite is that game for me. Never boring but never keeping me on the edge of my seat. Most of my investment here lies in the potential it shares. Donning your gear and risking your life for precious rarities may very well be worth it if you’re part of the hardcore survival fanbase and waiting on something new. If not, bunkering down and steering clear could undoubtedly do you good.
Eurogamer - Rick Lane - Recommended
Slight repetition can't diminish the incredible atmoshpere of Farm 51's post-apocalyptic survival game.
Everyeye.it - Giovanni Calgaro - Italian - 8 / 10
Chernobylite is a title in some ways surprising: born from a small - but very talented - Independent Polish studio (those The Farm 51 already authors of Get Even) the work mixes in an inseparable whole different videogame genres. A horror / sci-fi narrative, not original but intriguing, role-playing elements, survival mechanics, a deep and layered crafting, a typical action of a first-person shooter and a micro management mechanic that perhaps invalidates a little too much the ambitious bet of the development team.
GRYOnline.pl - Dariusz Matusiak - Polish - 8 / 10
In case someone was disappointed by the lack of freedom in The Medium, let it be known that Chernobylite brings much more leeway in terms of gameplay, while offering equally pretty graphics and dark atmosphere. Until the second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. arrives, there is no better game for visiting Chernobyl.
GameMAG - Russian - 7 / 10
Chernobylite is not gonna make up for the lack of the new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in your life, but even so it's a good enough title to dive into before the release of the next GSC Game World project.
GameSkinny - Mark Delaney - 6 / 10 stars
Chernobylite is one of the most inconsistent games I can recall ever playing, with fantastic highs and frustrating lows, leading to someplace in between.
GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - Unscored
Our only concern with Chernobylite so far is the game’s structure – going on small missions each game day in the same locations may eventually become a little repetitive. Oh, and the English voice acting isn’t very good – you’re better off sticking with the default Russian with English subtitles. Other than that though, we’ve been fairly engrossed by its mix of horror, action, survival, base building and team management. Its 3D scanned recreation of Chernobyl’s exclusion zone looks absolutely gorgeous, too, being picturesque yet also haunting. Check back later for our final verdict on the game once we’ve seen our journey through to its end.
GameWatcher - Gavin Herman - 8 / 10
If you love the atmosphere of Eastern European survival games but hate the jank, Chernobylite is for you. Its cycle of scavenging and questing is addicting, and its characters are fun to meet. But that also means it becomes too easy once you get a feel for the controls and mechanics. Add that with a story that isn't scary, and you have a flawed game with an engaging core. It held my attention during its full runtime, and I can't say that for a lot of games.
Gamer Escape - Eliot Lefebvre - 7 / 10
This is a slower, more painful, and in many ways more failure-prone sort of game. But for players who enjoy the option of a slower ludonarrative and want to experience a build through this difficult situation, stalking the wreckage of the exclusion zone is going to be a lot of fun. If you’re willing to be patient and survival-minded, you’ll find a lot to enjoy here in Chernobylite.
God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 7.5 / 10
Fans of hardcore survival games might find Chernobylite a little too easy-going, while horror aficionados may not be horrified enough. But if you're looking for a more balanced experience with a compelling world and a lot of varied mechanics, Chernobylite is well worth investigating.
Hardcore Gamer - Cory Wells - 4 / 5
Chernobylite offers a deep survival game experience that offers elements of sci-fi, horror and RPG. It's hard to call this a survival horror title, but all the management aspects and the branching storylines will provide fans of the survival genre plenty to enjoy.
IGN Italy - Stefano Castagnola - Italian - 6 / 10
A game with some interesting ideas and concepts, that sometimes manage to provide meaningful content to the players but are too often obscure by the deeply repetitive nature of gameplay and quest design.
Jump Dash Roll - Shaun McHugh - 7 / 10
If you're expecting S.T.A.L.K.E.R. you'll be disappointed, but if you're jonesing for some forbidden zone action then Chernobylite is worth your time.
New Game Network - Ben Thomas - 79 / 100
Chernobylite combines a multifaceted narrative with stunning, atmospheric levels that repopulate with fantastic points of interest. Players can sneak or shoot their way around the faithfully recreated Zone and see the modest ripple effects of story choices they can alter following each death.
Niche Gamer - Welfare Walrus - 8 / 10
While I found a lot of the main mission uninspired and level design unpolished; Chernobylite’s dialog, choices, and the act of exploring when not just following a quest marker to be quite fun. While I wouldn’t call it the Stalker spiritual successor some might have been hoping for, it manages to be it’s own thing and for that I can respect it.
Noisy Pixel - Semy Rahman - 8 / 10
Chernobylite is a unique approach to the world and aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster. The narrative is so compelling that it keeps your eyes glued to the screen, and the level of detail is absolutely mesmerizing. Though it does get bogged down with mundanity and repetition, the moments of interest outweigh the moments of boredom. If you want an immersive experience with an intricate plot, Chernobylite makes a good case for itself.
PC Gamer - Robert Zak - 78 / 100
An ambitious and atmospheric adventure undercut by some simplistic mechanics.
PC Invasion - Jason Rodriguez - 7.5 / 10
With a combination of multiple features and mechanics from different genres, as well as a setting that's steeped in mystery, Chernobylite attempts to be the jack-of-all-trades. Unfortunately, a mediocre combat system, repetitive mission structure, and dull gameplay loop lead to questionable results.
PPE.pl - Mateusz Wróbel - Polish - 9 / 10
Chernobylite is a pass for The Farm 51, allowing the home team to enter the major leagues. The post-apocalyptic title taking us to the exclusion zone is unique and given the low price, it is the responsibility of every game fan to read Igor's story.
RPGamer - Zack Webster - 3 / 5
As an RPG it’s a fairly light endeavor, but the workmanlike quality and some cool decisions will do enough to keep plenty interested throughout its whole runtime.
SECTOR.sk - Branislav Kohút - Slovak - 8 / 10
Interesting radioactive survival game with less atractive missions, but good base and team management.
Screen Rant - Joseph Fonseca - 4 / 5 stars
Chernobylite's mixed collection of gameplay styles comes together beautifully. The narrative is engaging, the world is atmospheric, combat is solid , and the base building is decent. It may not be a STALKER game, and it's eclectic collection of elements are integrated with varying degrees of success, but Chernobylite offers a worthy replacement, full of its own charms and quirks that will allow it to stand on its own two feet.
Softpedia - Cosmin Vasile - 7.5 / 10
There are rough edges but I expect all of them will be solved via patches. The Farm 51 has created an atmospheric and challenging game that mixes plenty of inspirations in a cool new way. More variety in terms of locations and more options for combat would have made Chernobylite an instant classic.
Spaziogames - Italian - 7.4 / 10
Chernobylite mixes up different genres and tells a compelling spy-story tied to the infamous Chernobyl disaster. However, It needs a post-launch balancement and less repetitive missions.
TechRaptor - 7 / 10
Chernobylite is nearly impossible to put in a specific genre and it feels generally unpolished, but the sheer amount of fun and excitement that it provides makes the game more than worth playing.
The Games Machine - Simone Rampazzi - Italian - 7.8 / 10
Chernobylite is an interesting game, full of interesting ideas and with a good amount of content to offer; unless you go straight for the ending, it will entertain you for a good twenty hours. It's not perfect: the AI isn't brilliant, the horror atmosphere isn't quite there, and there's some repetetiveness. But if you're looking for something to satiate your hunger for trips in the Exclusion Zone, Chernobylite is a solid choice.
TheGamer - Sam Watanuki - 4.5 / 5 stars
Chernobylite is special. If you enjoy RPGs that feature things like crafting, base building, team management, and heists, the ambitious Chernobylite is one that you won’t want to miss.
WayTooManyGames - Kyle Nicol - 7.5 / 10
Chernobylite is a wonderfully unique game with multiple gameplay elements that make it stand out rather than being dumped as just another post-apocalyptic survival game.
WellPlayed - Edward Darling - 8.5 / 10
Chernobylite weaves together a strong narrative, compelling characters and highly detailed environments to deliver a glowing (pun intended) entry into the sci-fi survival horror RPG genre.
Windows Central - Brendan Lowry - 4 / 5 stars
Chernobylite's great survival horror gameplay, top-notch atmosphere, and excellent audiovisual presentation make it a must-play title for any fan of games like STALKER.

2021.05.10 18:20 leonhardtist In defence of Annie.

In defence of Annie.
Unfortunately the occurrence of hateful comments about Annie is quite common lately. This harsh critic towards Annie's character is based mainly on lines that she has said, or in actions which (no matter how barbaric they are) they have been taken out of context and they are presented in complete isolation from the character's backstory. The main arguments that people mention are the followings. The inhumate way Annie tortured the scout during the 57th expedition. The execution of the Levi squad. Her notorious laugh after she was exposed as a shifter and her supposed unremorseful confession that she would repeat her sinful actions. All the above are being represented in a way that paints Annie as a psychopath. An emotionless sadistic murderer who enjoys to kill inocent human beings by torturing them to their agonizing death. The infamous scene of Annie crushing on insects is also oftenly shown in order to back this thesis. I will make an effort to deconstruct those arguments and express some thoughts about how Annie's character was formed by her past and how her actions squar with the dire conditions that she was facing.
First of all it is important to understand that Annie did not grow up in a normal family. She never felt the nurturance and love of her parents. As she herself confessed to Hitch she was abandoned by her own mother right after her birth because her father was an Eldian. To make matters worse her adoptive father agreed to raise her only to trained her in order to turn her into a human weapon. Marley's military training just magnifide her already destorted psycology as it supressed any kind of emotion or ethical suspension in order to be able to excecute any mission regardless of the atrocities she would have to commit.

Another worth mentioning fact is that Annie from the beginning of her mission didnt realy had any choice. If she had desided at any moment to quit her mission and return to Marley the high command would have feed her to the next candidate and her father would have most likely been excecuted as to make an examble about the consequences of incompetence. At the same time if she had surrundered to the survey corps her fate would have been just as grim. The survey corps or the royal family would have feed her to someone more trustworthy than a defected enemy warrior. Annie's dire situation is more than profound during her interaction with Reiner prior to Marco's death. During that scene Reiner straightforwardly threatened Annie to turn both her and her father in to Marleyan athorities. As Reiner himself clearly stated Annie had shown signs of compassion towards the other trainees. As a result she had to prove her loyalty to Marley by taking Marcos 3dmg.

Regarding the incidence of the scout that was spinned around by Annie this must be analized under the harsh realities of a brutal battle. Annie had already killed a large number of enemies (that try to kill her too by attacking with same hatred and ferocity) and she had cover vast distances being chased herself by the pure titans. All this physical and mental exhaustion in compination with the mind-breaking violence and horific deaths she had caused lead to a sence of dominance and invulnerability. At that point Annie was the top predator that played with her prey (like an orca play with a sea lion). Maybe during moments like that (in the chaos of the battle) she felt like she had the power and to control the fate of her defeated enemies. As disterbing this sounds we must always remember that this is the consiquences of her inhumane nurture and not her nature.
It is actually plain ridiculous how impugners ignore almost her entire story because it doesnt fit their narative. When she was trapped at the forest of giant trees Levi rediculed her seemigly hopeless state by refering to how they are going to amputate her human limps in order to turture and interogate her.
https://preview.redd.it/jq6b07jfxay61.jpg?width=1066&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=222aa131282b1d135c8b5799cc59214d2c552c8a

This incidence is comvical as it made it clear to Annie that there was no space for negotiations and half-measures. If she realy wanted to survive and see her father again she should have carry out her mission no matter the cost.
Right after that Annie unleased her scream and drew the titan horde in her position in a desperate attempt to escape.
https://preview.redd.it/s8o5lfvnxay61.jpg?width=1066&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0540af683de2223acfa26785e6065b2b0acc73c4

The whole scene really show how exasparated Annie was in order to execute such desparate moves like leading a hord of titans to devour her titan
In the battle that followed Levi's squad was cuted down one by one. All the above indicate that the fight between Annie and the scouts was a battle of survival. Annie won that battle and saw the sun rises for another day. Of course that doesn't mean that Annie didn't have any remorse about her actions during the battle. The expressions in her face duting the fighting is an irrefutable proof of her destate for what she had to commit. The most iconic moment was her tearful face of her titan. This was right after she had failed to kidnap Eren leading to her realization that all this bloodshed she created was for nothing.

It is of paramount importance to note that the salvation came from the same person who put her through all this martyrdom. It was Mr Leonhard's repentance and confession about his paternal feelings towards Annie that dispersed the darkness from her soul and made her redeem her own existence (probably this was the first time Annie felt like an actual human being as she experienced the unprecedented for her till then condition of being adored by her paternal figure). Maybe that was both a gift and a curse because she finally got a purpose to continue living and fighting but at the same she realized the true weight and even the very occurrence of her sins.

Annie after her father expressed his love towards her and after being in the island for so many years (expiriencing a state of unprecedented freedom) showed many times that she was interested in her co-trainees and deemed them to be her friends.

Annie was openly against a second breached in the walls.
She also had some carefree moments with her co-trainees as we can see in chapter 133.
But regardless of her emotions the dark truth was always shadowing every temporary moment of joy and peace Annie was experiencing. She was still a traitor who had brought nothing but death and dispair to Paradise. On top of that as Eren had stated Annie was not a good lier. All the above lead her to be isolated from the others, closed to her world of remorse about the past and agony about the future. That is excactly what lead to her infamous smile during her exposition in Stohess. Her smile was not a sign of her unstable psychotic character but rather an erruption of relief as she wouldnt have to pretend and hide from the truth anymore.

Another mostly forgotten scene is when Eren pushed Annie's titan and she crushed in a nearby church. Annie is crearly shocked from the deaths of civilians she had cause (even by accident).
Another point in Annie's past that has been extensively highlighted is the scene back from her training days where she appears to be totally absorbed in stomping on an insect. She indeed was so focused on the decimation of that insect that she didnt even notice the fight between Reiner and Porco.
Again the explanation of that incidence may resides in her eroded mentality but that seems a rather perfunctory explanation. Annie was never willing to join the military or become a warrior in the first place. She wasnt even idedifing herself as an Eldian and she wasnt at a slightest interested in any conflict or war especially for laughable excuses like gaining prestige or becoming a honorable Marleyan.
https://preview.redd.it/0zij7ks2gby61.png?width=520&format=png&auto=webp&s=7867f6e9f7a96cac32d76060cf4c09fa1478c557
It was her enviroment (both parental and societal) that force her in a storm of massacre and mass killings. It is profound that she never wanted to kill people but she had been put in a position where if she wanted to survive she had no other choice but to play the role of a competent warrior and serve the marleyan war machine. As her physical training was progressing it was crucial for her to be also mentaly prepared for the battles that she had to participate in. As a titan shifter Annie would have to crush and stomp on people in a parallel way she was killing the bugs. Maybe those incidences were a way which Annie came up with to familiarise with the horific future that was waiting her.
The last think I would like to mention is her supposed remorsionless regarding her actions. This is the easiest point to debunk as her words has been taken completely out of context. During her dialoge with Hitch, Annie clearly state that IF THIS MEANS TO REUNITE WITH HER FATHER she would have done all this again.
https://preview.redd.it/hl9r5f0bhby61.jpg?width=1066&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6e4c30f220ffbd5828a2ea1df5e002c9a8eb9f9
Annie is being plain honest in her statement and is the only logical thing for her character to say. Annie dont own nothing to a world that from her first day of her life treated her like an enemy. The repentance of her father was the only think that gave her the slightest glimse of hope. It's only logical that her reunion with him became her greatest purpose in her life. A life depreved of love and scorched by the flame of war, murders and hatred. Whoever desided to stand in her way of her worthy cause whould have to face her wrath. As her father said, sha had to treat the whole world as her enemy.
P.S. Sorry for any spelling or gramatical mistakes, i am not a native english speaker.

IMDB
Challenge started: 5/18/2020 Date Watched: 9/10/2020 Runtime: 1h43m Rating: PG-13 Watched on: Netflix Rotten Tomatoes: %12 Imdb rating: 5.5 Genre: Fantasy/Adventure Directed by: Sergei Bodrov
Google synopsis:
Centuries ago, a supernatural champion named Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) defeated Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), a malevolent witch. Now, she has escaped imprisonment and thirsts for vengeance. She summons her followers and prepares to unleash her wrath on humanity. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory. Gregory takes Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) as his new apprentice, but he has only until the next full moon to teach Tom what usually takes years: how to prevail against dark magic.
My thoughts:
Next up on the Sci-fi/Fantasy double feature is Seventh Son.
There's some really imaginative stuff here. Overall this movie is pretty enjoyable. It's decently paced and the whole thing flows pretty well. There is plenty of action and satisfying enough storytelling to mostly hold your attention.
The acting overall is just ok, with the only semi-noteworthy-ish performances being Jeff Bridges, occasionally Julianne Moore and maybe John DeSantis as Tusk. Some of the special effects are cool, and i really like the shadow assasins. (Those guys come out of nowhere!) Oh... and dragons! Yes, they're kinda cool. So, that's the positive stuff.
The negative? The lead character Tom Ward (Ben Barnes.) Is really bland, as is most the cast. Also, the romance naratives and all of the plot twists, feel really forced. The dialoge can be fairly cheesy and some of the effects are not believable at all.
So yeah, just ok on this. It was worth a watch, but is not going to be too memorable. If you like watching fantasy, I think you'll probably like this. If not, skip it.
My wife abstains from rating this one, as it lost her attention part way in.
I'll give Seventh Son a 3 out of 5.

2020.08.16 07:22 kwpluckett Kwpluckett #43: Fluke (1995)

Challenge started: 5/18/2020
Date Watched: 8/15/2020
Runtime: 1h36m
Rating: PG
Watched on: Amazon Prime
Rotten Tomatoes: %27
Imdb rating: 6.7
Genre: Family/ Drama
Directed by: Carlo Carlei
Google synopsis:
Workaholic Thomas P. Johnson (Matthew Modine) has achieved professional success at the expense of his family life, having neglected his wife, Carol (Nancy Travis), and son, Brian (Max Pomeranc). After Johnson wrecks his car in a dangerous street race with co-worker Jeff Newman (Eric Stoltz), he finds himself watching his own funeral. Returning to Earth as a dog, Johnson finds his family and struggles to have a positive influence on their lives -- in spite of his canine form.
My thoughts:
This movie is All Dogs Go To Heaven in reverse. It's really depressing and doesn't give you much in terms of emotional investment and pay off. I won't go into the rundown as to why... but dear goodness, it's pretty relentless.
I turned this one on for my kid. She was mildly interested when dogs were on the screen, but not for much else. Fortunately, for my kid's sake, the dogs get alot of screen time! (She still tuned out for the most part... and I guess I did occasionally a well. )
The animal dialoge here is not great, and it is made that much stranger when they try to explain the 'telepathic' nature of it all within the first few sentences of conversation. (Just allow for suspension of disbelief!) If you're looking for talking animals, I'll still refer to Homeward Bound as the standard bearer.
This movie is bad, and it is too dramatic for its own good. It ceases to be fun, which all family movies should aspire to be. It burdens the audience with overly complex narative, disjointed storylines, and an overwhelming amount of sentiment. And that's too bad... because Samuel L. Jackson plays Rumbo here, and Rumbo rocks. Lol.
I'm giving this a 2/5.

  1. Setea, 1961. Glorie partidului comunist! Glorie partidului comunist!

  1. Un pas in urma serafimilor, 2017.

  1. Pozitia copilului, 2013. O reprezentare a influentei clasei superioare in societatea romaneasca.

Nothing to write home about.

  1. Marele jaf comunist(N), 2004.

  1. Carturan, 2019(N).

  1. Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier, 2010(N). Drama unui tanar abandonat, care sfarseste in inchisoare.

La subiectul I:

2019.06.15 08:42 MCMIVC What's your favorite scene from each film?

Mine (including Fantastic Beasts) are as follows:
Philosopher's Stone: The Chess Game One of the closest things to a perfect scene in the entire series. Pacing, Music, Production Design, Cinematography, Directing. This is also the scene in the first film where the kid actors are all at their best. Freakin' love this scene!
Runner-Up: The scene right after, The man with two faces, has many of the same strentghs as the chess scene, but I think the chess scene is just a little bit better put together.
Chamber of Secrets: ....The... Chamber of Secrets. The climax, the snake fight, Tom Riddle. Good shit y'all! Kid-Daniel Radcliffe is so good here (The jump in quality in his acting from film 1 to film 2 is just astronomical), and Christian Coulson just frickin' kills it in this scene as Tom Riddle, so much so that I kinda wish they'd just cast him as Voldemort permanently for the rest of the series.
Runner-Up: Lucius Malfoy's introduction in Flourish & Blotts. Such a perfect character introduction. the shade he throws at everyone, perfectly establishing him as the wonderful slimey guy he is.
Prisoner of Azkaban: Lupin's Transformation This was the first werewolf transformation scene I saw as a kid. It impacted me so much. The three things that really make this scene are; 1 - The Cinematography/Lighting. That zoom in to his eyes will stay embedded in my mind forever. 2 - The Music. John Williams at his A-game as usual, what else can I say? 3 - David Thewlis and Gary Oldman's acting. Lupin's catatonic and blank stares, and his expressions of pain as his body starts too contort. Sirius desperatly, and sadly futile attepmts of trying to reach his friend.
Two Runner-Ups: 1 - Pretty much every scene with Lupin. I love David Thewlis. 2 - Hermione punches Draco. Don't think I need to explain this one.
Goblet of Fire: Harry returning with Cedric's body In what I personally think is the least faithfull adaption of the books, this is the one scene I feel they got Spot On. The way all the people are cherring at first and then slowly start to realize the true tragedy that has occured. Patrick Doyle's soundtrack is in general excellent, and it reaches one of it's best climaxes here. All those things are great, but the biggest reason this scene is so brilliant, is Jeff Rawle's as Amos Diggory reacting to his son's death. Just how broken he sounds. His screams of "MY BOY!" I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Many actors have that one moment that will forever stand as their most iconic/best work. This is surely his. He OWNS that scene.
Two Runner-Ups:* 1 - Barty Crouch Snr. talking to Harry after the second task. Strange choice, you say? Well; This scene is rather unasuming, and ultimately is mostly just there for Crouch to recognize his son, but his few lines of dialog with Harry before that, talking about grief and loss of a loved one, I found to be rather touching in their subtleness during my last two watchings of the films. 2 - Harry looking at cho and drooling. It's stupid and funny. A+
Order of the Phoenix: Harry fighting off Voldemort's Possesion This brilliant climax is a perfect culmination of everything the film has been building towards. Harry's inner battle with Voldemort and/or his inner demons is such a powerfull emotional moment. And his lines of "You're the one who's weak, and You'll never know love or friendship. And I feel sorry for you" are delivered perfectly by Dan. All the flashbacks to happy times and just... UGHH.... I can't really find the words to describe why I love this scene so much, but I hope I managed to convey some of it.
*Runner-Up: Every time Imelda Staunton is on screen. She is perfect as Umbridge. So FUCKING detestable and evil. She makes me hate her so much in this film. In my opinion, best individual performance in the ENITRE franchise. (Well, maybe shared with Danf Fogler in Fantastic Beasts) Imelda should have gotten an Oscar for this. I'm dead serious. It's a FUCKING disgrace that she didn't. (Sorry for the multiple F-bombs i this entry, but her performance in this film just boils up so many emotions in me)
Half-Blood Prince: The battle in the reeds by the Burrow, & Slughorn talking about Francis the fish, and finally giving Harry the memory.
The battle in the reeds by the Burrow: I simultaniously hate and love this scene. Hate it because it wasn't book and shouldn't be able to happen at all and makes no sense. If the death eaters can get to the Burrow that easily, WHY DOESN'T VOLDEMORT HIMSELF GO THERE TO KILL HARRY?!?!?! Love it because it is so brilliantly shot and edited and paced. It's a brilliantly tense and at times slightly scary scene, and it stands out because it's so out of place from the rest of the film. So yeah... Hate the scene's placement in the film, love the scene itself.
Slughorn talking about Francis the fish, and finally giving Harry the memory See; THIS is the proper way to expand with stuff the wasn't in the book. A beautiful, tragic and touching tale that naturally fits into the narative that already exists. Jim Broadbent is so good in this scene, the pain in his eyes from the memories of Francis and Lily, and this secret he's been keeping for so long seems so real. I have accepted this scene as head-canon for the books as well, it's that good.
Runner-Up: The Rest of the Felix Felicies Sequence. I think it's funny, ok?
Deathly Hallows, Part 1: Harry and Hermione dance. Beautiful and Bittersweet moment of two teenager stuck in a war, having a brief moment of joy in all the misery. Not really much else to say, it's short and sweet and the sadness when reality sets back in is hauntingly beautiful.
Runner-Up: Dobby's Death. Managing to still be sad even after leaving out Dobby from most films. Good Job.
Deathly Hallows, Part 2: Courtyard Apocalypse Harry, Ron & Hermione fighting their way towards the boathouse. Spectacular battle scene, brilliant music by Alexandre Desplat. Tense and fast-paced with subtle call-backs to previos adventures. Brilliant.
Runner-Up: Seventeen Years Later. Controversial opinion maybe, but I actually really do like the epilogue. Both in book and film. Leaving Hogwarts as the final musical cue in the main series. Brilliant
Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them: Searching for and catching various creatures Not really one single scene, but the best parts of FB was the fun interaction between the four core characters as they made their way through New York, tracking down all the animals. Newt is a different kind of Protagonist, and one we need more of in our media, and him and Tina have such fun and awkwardly cute chemestry. Jacob is just the best, and everyone knows how cute him and Queenie were in the first film. All four played off each other well and they made a really fun team to follow along in an adventure with In my opinion, this is what the FB series should have been like as a whole. Four fun characters going around in various places catching exotic and fantastic beasts, while interacting with each other in funny and cute ways. With the rise of Grindelwald being much more in the background(And I actually really liked Crimes of Grindelwald, but I wish this is how the series had been.)
Crimes of Grindelwald: Grindelwald's Rally I actually think Johnny Depp is brilliant as Grindelwald, and this scene is where he shines the most Brilliantly seductive and manipulative.
So, that's my favorite scene from each film. Please share yours in the comments, I'm really interested in how we all think and feel differently about stuff.

2018.09.10 20:25 xrayden Listing to audiobooks trigger "ok Google" all the time.

i've search a lot to find a solution, but there seam to be no anwsers. When listing to audiobooks with the AA Audible App. Sometime in the naration a dialog approach somewhat of "ok google" in AA, Google Assistant stop the audio and pupop to listen. That is infuriating. I've disabled "Ok Google" on my phone, but it's not possible on AA.

2015.02.02 15:18 embair Are modern open-world games embracing navigation by quest markers a little too much?

This is something I've been noticing in most open-world games, but Dying Light reminded me of it with renewed intensity. Since the magical quest marker has become the standard way to reach your objectives, the quest givers no longer bother giving you any verbal directions at all.
Compare these two made up examples:
A) "Could you bring me the camera i left in my appartment? It's a two story building not far from the police station. Just follow the drainage canal to the south, turn right at the overpass, pass the apothecary on the left and there you are."
B) "Could you bring me the camera i left in my appartment?"
The reason Dying Light made me bring this up is that I feel it's a game that could really benefit from the (A) approach, but doesn't. Important part of your survival skill is knowing the area - escape routes, zombie traps, dead ends, etc. When you're running in the night with a bunch of screaming super-zombies on your tail, you have to capitalize on that knowledge or you're probably dead. It's a mechanic that I really enjoy, but I think the writing could do more to help you build your mental model of the game world.
Every open-world game aims for "living, breathing world" these days, but apparently it's easier said than done. Maybe a part of getting there is treating the world as a real place in the narative and not as a boring wasteland that you need to bypass on your way to the holy objective marker?
TL&DR: NPC's in open world games know that you have quest markers and don't even bother describing the whereabouts of anything anymore. But what about my immersion?! Waaaah, waaah...
Edit: To clarify, I'm not arguing against quest markers in general (they are way too useful), just against lazy writing that takes advantage of the markers being there.
