I was an X-ray baby, I remember the feeling of showing up to 30th AG. My basic class was 75% X-rays, dudes were studs, ripped strong fast and here I was a 180 pound 5’9 slightly out of shape 20 year old kid with a little college and a little work before I decided to chase my dreams and join the X-ray program. I felt a little out of place but still had the fire burning in me, my first week of basic a 30 year old X-ray who was build exactly like terry cruise (who I later became very close friends with) said to me something along the lines of “your just a kid you’ll enjoy the regular army when you get dropped”. That really rubbed me the wrong way, from that point on every time we got smoked ( it was plentiful) I made it a point to do more pushups or whatever exercises the drills threw at as whenever he would rest to quit. Throughout basic I ran every run like my life depended on and and pushed myself hard when I could have shitbagged the smoke sessions. By the end of basic I had a perfect apft score (only about 30 of our X-rays had that) and had X-rays coming up to me who I hadn’t ever talked too now that i had earned some “respect” or whatever you want to call it. Over half our X-rays got dropped before osut was over from not meeting the Apft standards. Tip #1 don’t ship if your out of shape and don’t slack off in basic the lack of good food and sleep will get to you if you are borderline to begin with. There is no excuse for failing the apft at the end of basic, you knew what you needed when you signed up don’t lie to yourself on your physical condition.
Next it was off to airborne school, I was still mid Covid so rules were gay and guys were slacking off big time. If I’m being honest with myself I could of pushed harder during this timeframe. It is easy to get comfortable with the newfound freedom, don’t get out of shape, have a little bit of fun with your buddies but don’t get in trouble and don’t drink yourself out of shape. Tip #2 Organized PT during airborne is a joke, get to the gym after the long days. Start working on building back up your leg, grip, lower back strength and keep your condition to at least where you were at the end of basic. Trust me your gona want that strength during team week. Listen to the Jumpmaster if you land correctly you won’t get hurt too badly, most airborne injuries are because of incorrect landings. Don’t anticipate the ground. I think most of us are scared the first jump, just get out the door and enjoy the view, now that I’m getting out I wish I would of done more than my 15 jumps (besides jrtc jumps fuck jumping with a 240 and 100 pounds of Ammo and gear), most people are never lucky enough to experience the feeling of floating in a parachute. Try not to be a injury recycle at airborne, the pipeline is long enough as is.
Finally, the bus to bragg (liberty whatever the fuck you newdicks call it). I was excited, home of the special forces, this is where shit gets real. My motivation was probably at an all time high at this point, I’ve made some lifelong friendships throughout basic and me and my boys were showing up for the real thing after all the big army gayness (if only I knew). Pt test first week of getting to AT, a surprising number of people failed and were send off to the double A (remember what I said about slacking off). Don’t let that be you. We had a couple month long wait before we classes up for prep, tons of free time, again have fun but don’t go crazy those Raleigh girls don’t think your cool tell them your a software engineer or something. Tip #3 Blanket statement but stay away from the Fayetteville girls, they got stds or they are CSM’s daughter / wife. Also while your in AT you have so much time to train, perfect food via SWC dfac and ample rest time. I was training 3x a day cardio lifting and rolling with my group of buddies, we were super motivated and ready to get started.
Now prep course started up after block leave, got some time to myself with my family and proposed to my now wife (typical) we have a son now and she is my rock. Not everyone can deal with the lifestyle you are after make sure your shits together before getting married it will be hard, even in the regular army I was away for half the year at peace time. Prep course is great but if your not healthy it will break your body. The training is fairly intense and you will be putting lots of miles on your legs, make sure you are taking recovery seriously you will learn lots from the cadre don’t slack off on recovery, I saw too many good dudes get hurt and vanish. The classes are great, there is no reason to not pass the star after all the instruction and practical exercises you receive. I knew nothing of landnav before the army and got 6/8 on the star, good enough to keep me from getting dropped. Prepare physically and mentally for sfas, you should be reaching your peak shape at this point. Prep isn’t long enough to put on meaningful strength gains, so make sure you are lifting the whole time from airborne till sfas. Strength is vital to sfas (specifically team week).
Your packing list is ready, your group of 150xrays from basic is now down to 45. I’m not going to spoil selection for you, prep your packing list and get with former X-rays and your buddies and get all the handy shit they say. Sfas is painful, it was physically the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Team week felt like legitimate torture and I was like a terminally ill 90 year old getting out of bed during it. Take care of your feet, remember what you learned during land nav prep and don’t get lost on the star ( easier said than done). My land nav advice would be take it slow, stay calm, use your techniques and if you think your getting lost find a know point to reorient yourself. I only ran after I got lost on the second day to find my 6th point, I got lost because I was being stupid plainly. Shot a panic azimuth to a lake and ran for my 5th and 6th point, but if you don’t get lost you have no reason to run to your death. During team week you will be tiered, before you go do peers take some notes on how you will peer your team, you’ll forget who’s roster number is who if you don’t.
The Final Cut of sfas, standing there with my bags I was confident I had preformed well. Then they called my roster number out, I walked my way over with my head down. Off to tent city I went, 21 day nonselect. I was overwhelmed with feelings of despair, all of that work and pain and was hit with a 2 year as we’re the rest of the 21 days from my class. Not even gona lie here I shed a tear when I saw my best friend at tent city who was a 6 month land nav drop.(got selected and is off to group, fucking amazing guy I’m happy for him) back to Bragg I went.
Got my orders to the 82nd, when I showed up I was depressed. My wife and me still weren’t married, I was living alone in the b’s and getting smoked daily for anything my new TL could come up with that day. Now you might be here, maybe you didn’t get selected, at the end of the day the cadre have there reasons, self reflect and write down what you want to improve if you are going back. There are two types of X-rays at the 82nd and elsewhere, those that give up and become shitbags and those that succeed and thrive in their role as an infantryman, some of them go back to sfas and make it, some become amazing SL’s and some get out and do great things as a civilian. It’s alright to be bummed out, I was for at least 6 months, I truly believe god has a plan for everyone and that everything happens for a reason even if you don’t know that reason at the time it happens. I stopped feeling sorry to myself and was put in the weapons squad as a 240 gunner. I had an amazing former batt boy SL who grew me and my gun team into what I would say was one of the best gun teams in the army. We were all strong fast and in great shape, our 240 gun drills and accuracy was always on point. This is because we took our job seriously and took pride in our performance. The big army is gay, that’s the truth I don’t give a fuck if you’re great at Joe history trivia or the best toy soldier for details. Be good at your job and work on it, saw gunner rifle man TL ect. I know you didn’t want to be in the 82nd, but if your a Man you will stop feeling sorry for yourself and take pride in your work, be the best at your job and no one can fuck with you, remember you can still go to war and you and your buddies lives may depend on it. I never got smoked once in weapons because I took my shit seriously and had great leadership to help me grow. If you push yourself and get schools, you can go back to SFAS as a seasoned team leader e5 with ranger and EIB / Jumpmaster, you will breeze through TAC skills with your knowledge from your time on the line, and your X-ray classmates can rely on you for knowledge on tactics. I know the 82nd can be gay, but if you rise above it you can learn a lot, and go on to do what you wanted to in the first place. Make the best of your situation and don’t be a feel sorry for me pussy.
Remember what I said about god having a plan? I was diagnosed with a progressive genetic disease that is life threatening if not treated. If I had been selected I would have surely ignored it and ended up with parts of my inside cut out of possibly dead. Funny enough a form GB pa was the one who referred me to get checked. Now I am leaving Bragg in a week to start my csp, and just handed off my ruck up or shut up book to a TL who is going to sfas tomorrow. Not sure if anyone took the time to read all of this , it was therapeutic in a way to put it down in writing. Even if my advice helps one dude I’ll be happy, good luck boys get fucking after it.

I want to invest in a high quality multi effect & amp sim and never think about amps and pedals for the rest of my musical carrier. I need it to be reliable and top quality. I want it to completely satisfy any urge I'll have for pedals and amps.
I have a few options in mind - I'll add pricing for each as pricing is weird where i live:

1. Kemper player- 850$ - in terms of features it is the most 'basic' unit, but something about its simplicity really clicked with me, Bluetooth is fun too, but the limitations of 4 fx blocks is a big con.
2. Used Helix in excellent condition- 850$- seems like the most value, but I'm worried about the amp modelling lacking and me regret not getting a profiler instead :/ (I know price seems like an absolute steal and that actually concerns me... the seller did send me serial number and receipt though)
3. Helix LT- 1100$- It's new, I don't care about scribble strips, but the exp pedal is a downgrade. same concern with amp modeling.
4. Fractal fm3- 1100$- fractal seems like the best of all in terms of quality and everything else, also the amount of artists who use the Axe FX is really appealing. although it is the older model of the fm3.
5. Fractal fm3 mark II turbo- 1500$- it is much more then i intended to pay but I am willing if it's worth it over everything else.

worth noting that i do appreciate a smaller form factor, I'll get along with fewer switches and I prefer buying an external exp pedal.

TL;DR:

• Good build quality, reading on a big screen is a delight.
• Writing experience is not on par with an iPad and Apple Pencil, even though the Amazon stylus feels nicer in the hand than the Apple Pencil.
• Writing output is not as polished as Apple Pencil.
• Lack of sync options with any service severely limits utility.
• Baffling software and hardware omissions like no page turn buttons when there is space for them, limited software options for hardware button on stylus.
• Too big and heavy to be convenient solely as an ereader.
• Amazon offers no protection or encryption for notes, makes note taking too insecure for anything significant.
• Big disappointment given that Amazon has the resources to make the Scribe the best e-ink notebook on the market.

I've been without an ereader for many years, mostly using my iPad, mainly because I haven't found anything that satisfactorily could replace my sadly lost Kindle Voyage. I was sick of reading on LCD and OLED screens, so I decided to bite the bullet and get an ereader. At first I was looking at the 6"-7" models but the Scribe reviews turned my head. I've seen many people here and elsewhere say it's the best Kindle they've ever owned and that they've ditched note taking on their iPad or in physical notebooks after getting the Scribe. I journal daily, write for work, and do creative writing as a hobby so I just had to try the Scribe.
Well, sadly, I have to say I am majorly disappointed. The device is extremely well built and fit and finish is top notch, so that's not an issue. The stylus feels good in the hand. The screen looks gorgeous, and reading books with larger text without having to turn pages nearly as often is a godsend. A+ on all of those aspects.
Then the negatives popped up quickly. I do a lot of writing in notebooks with fountain pens and I don't care what anyone says, none of these devices come anywhere close to the tactile satisfaction of feeling the nib of a fountain pen on good paper and watching the ink appear on the page. So in that respect, the Scribe is no worse than any other digital writing device and better than several. But to me the iPad is still the gold standard of digital writing experiences. I like the Scribe stylus more than the Apple Pencil in the hand, but you can tell that Apple put an incredible amount of time and money making the writing experience on the iPad feel like the best in the world, and it is. The animations, the responsiveness, the ability to customize the output, how close each writing type looks to its analog counterpart, it's all unparalleled. The Scribe falls so short, it's not even close. The customization options feel paltry and the pencil for example looks like I'm writing with a Wooly Willy pad. I can excuse the lower responsiveness because it's an e-ink screen and the iPad has a 60-120hz LCD or OLED screen, but the overall experience of writing is several steps down.
Now, I would still consider taking those tradeoffs for the benefit of a no distractions device to write on, especially in conditions where pen and paper is not convenient. But this brings me to the biggest and most immediately deal breaking aspect of this device: I cannot find anything from Amazon about how notes and notebooks are secured, encrypted, and otherwise guaranteed to be seen only by me or people I chose to share access with. While Amazon is undeniably convenient, I do NOT trust them at all, and they don't address the security of notes at all that I can see. With Apple I can (and have) enable advanced protections on my account that end to end encrypts pretty much everything. So now I can't use the note taking aspect of the Scribe for work, or anything more personal than a shopping list. Couple this with the extreme limitation of what you can even do with notes as they don't sync to anything, you can't even write in the margins of 99% of ebooks, and the writing utility of the Scribe dwindles to virtually nothing for me.
So that leaves the Scribe's utility as a big ereader. Unfortunately this is heavy and while thin it's still a very big device. In the same way I can't as easily carry around and use my iPad the way I do my iPhone, the Scribe is not conducive to using in many of the places I would want to use an ereader, like in bed with my cat on my chest or, let's be blunt, on the toilet. The ever present expandable icon for adding sticky notes on ebooks is a perpetual distraction on a class of device that is all about eliminating distractions.
There are also baffling omissions in both the software and hardware. We've got the button on the stylus, and it can only be used to change between different modes. You'd think a perfect use for this would be to cycle between line thickness options, or choose the lasso selector, or undo with a single tap, redo with a double tap or long hold. There's a sticky note option for the button, an excellent idea, that appears to not work at all. The device has this big empty space on one side for holding the Scribe one handed and there's no hardware buttons for changing pages?? On a device this size, if you're already using that space to hold it one handed, it seems like a no brainer to put either full hardware buttons or touch inputs like the Voyage had where your hand already is to turn pages. Instead I now have to use my free hand to move a page forward.
I think the Scribe is a great idea, with great hardware, and middling to terrible execution. For the non-discounted price the Scribe goes for (thankfully I did not pay full price but I'll be returning nonetheless), plus the fact you have to pay extra for the good stylus, there is no excuse for such a poor user experience. And even if the user experience were A++, anyone privacy or security conscious still couldn't use the Scribe for any significant writing because Amazon has taken no steps to secure and protect our notes.

Hi all, we will be over from the UK in a few months and while we do understand and don’t question that tipping is basically essential I wonder if it’s better to tip cash or by card?
I would assume cash as it’s easier to hide from the taxman if there’s no receipt but then I saw a TikTok by a bartender saying if you tip in cash the staff is still taxed on what the business thinks they made in tips (or something along those lines) So that got me confused.
I know it’s a daily amount for the housekeeper (as staff could rotate during our stay) and cash for the person helping with luggage so it’s more aimed towards bars and restaurants.
Any help is much appreciated.

I need some advice. I feel way out of my depth and literally have no idea how to proceed from here. Any help would be appreciated.
I invested 100k in a renovation project about 5 years ago. It had some hold-ups due to Covid, environmental issues, etc., but will soon be ready to start leasing apartments. I own roughly a 10% share of the profits, and up until very recently was led to believe that everything was progressing relatively smoothly: costs were up, yes, but rent prices would be higher, too! Daily updates of construction work were provided in videos and images. The property started listing apartments on Instagram for pre-lease. It all seemed like it was coming together. The idea is that by the project's completion, my $100k share would be worth $500k, and I would be making around $20k before taxes over the year. My unhatched chickens were counted night and night again as I began to dream of financial independence.
Then the bomb dropped.
I started asking the person in charge of the deal about tax obligations, and I noticed that they were suddenly a bit less responsive than usual. These set off warning alarms, so when they finally got back to me with half-answers, I requested a phone call.
On the phone, I was told that the project ran significantly over budget, and that two of the partners had to take out additional money to finance to project, and get an additional bank loan. As such, I was told, my ~10% share has been reduced to a ~5% share. After foufive years, the property would be sold, I would get 300k (much less than the 500k share I had been told about), and all rent collected would go toward repaying the interest on the bank loan, ie no rental income for those foufive years.
However, in the operating agreement we signed, it says:

In the event that the Members determine that additional Capital Contributions are needed in excess of the aggregate Capital Contribution contributed by the Members pursuant to Schedule A hereof (any such additional Capital Contributions being referred to herein as an “Additional Capital Contribution”), then each Member shall have the right, but not the obligation, to make a Capital Contribution in an amount not to exceed such Member’s percentage ownership (as set forth in Schedule A) held times the amount of the Additional Capital Contribution. The election to make such a Capital Contribution in accordance with this Section 2.2 shall be made within fifteen (15) days of receipt of any request therefor made by the Members. If a Member (a “Noncontributing Member”) fails to pay all or any portion of his Additional Capital Contribution to the Company by the due date (the “Unpaid Proportionate Share”), the Manager shall deliver to all other Members (the “Other Members”) written notice of the Noncontributing Member's failure (the “Deficiency Notice”). The Deficiency Notice shall specify the amount of the Unpaid Proportionate Share which the Noncontributing Member failed to pay and the date on or before which such funds are required by the Company, which date shall not be earlier than three (3) days after the date the Deficiency Notice is given. At no point was I ever informed that I could contribute more to the project to maintain my ~10% share. At no point did I ever receive a deficiency notice, or any other such document. I also never received any information about an additional loan being taken out.
On another note, I recently contributed an additional $100k to separate real estate project managed by the same person, and I'm starting to question that decision.
So, what should I do? Should I contact a lawyer who deals with real estate issues? An investment advisor? I really have no idea where to proceed from here. Any help is welcome. I'm at a complete loss. FWIW I'm a non-resident and non-US citizen.

• Portabella mushrooms (Belle Grove) - $6.99 4-pack -- Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye out for prices on portabellas. This doesn't seem that bad off the hop. I know sometimes you can get 4-6 packs for about $4-5, though. But, you have to hunt around town for deals like that.
• Blueberries - $1.99 full pint -- Great price for blueberries!
• Cherries - $5.99 per lb -- Nice! Fair sale price for cherries!
• Watermelon (15lb average) - $9.99 each -- Trying to make sense of these watermelon prices. This isn't as good as some other deals. But considering on the same page they advertise 1.49/lb for sliced watermelon, it suggests this watermelon could cost you up to $22.
• Butter (Selection) - $4.88 454g bar -- $5 butter.
• Produce Price Rating: High. Kinda like Sobeys. You can see a 50% average mark-up compared to a lot of other stores. It's nice produce, but it costs you.

No Frills (price matcher)

• Beef burgers (No Name) - $9.99 1.36kg 12-pack -- Just more frozen burger musing. Basically much like the Compliments ones we saw earlier, but 113g each, but with more sugars and funny ingredients, and the same amount of sat-fat! (And they skip mentioning that 75%-ish daily value number for the sat-fat). Like, what the heck are "onion extract" and "corn syrup solids". Do they squeeze the onion and throw away the rind? And isn't solid syrup just solid sugar? lol....
• T-bone/Wing steak - $6.99 per lb -- This might seem like a good deal, but it's ungraded beef. Why pay this price when metro has AAA-grade steaks for a smidge less?
• Picnic pork shoulder - $2.44 per lb -- Excellent price! These are AWESOME for smoking and braising for pulled pork!
• Ground chicken or turkey - $8.00 870g pack -- Not bad. Works out to about $4.20/lb or so.
• Ground beef (lean) - $6.00 450g tube -- Really a meh price for "tube meat".
• Steelhead trout fillet - $9.99 per lb -- Standard pricing for pink fish.
• Asparagus - $2.99 per lb -- Ok price for asparagus. I expect better from No Frills.
• Green beans - $2.99 per lb -- Same with the green beans, I expect a bit better.

• Whole atlantic salmon (fresh) - $6.99 per lb -- Now, it's not filet and deboned, but it's a heckin' deal for salmon.
• Wild-caught squid - $8.99 per lb -- Perhaps there's calamari in your future?
• Hothouse tomatoes - $1.29 per lb -- Great price for tomatoes!
• Green and red leaf lettuce - $1.69 per head -- Great price for leafy greens!

• Peaches - $2.49 per lb -- These are from the USA. It could be a they come out a little tough. Leave them on the counter to ripen, but eat them fast after that!
• Cheese counter - Landana smoked cheese - $2.39 per 100g -- I'm partial to smoked cheese. This could make for a nice fancy burger topping.
• Deli - Genoa salami (Mastro) - $2.59 per 100g -- This isn't fantastic pricing, but fair. A 600g chub can clock in at $10-12 or so, this deli counter pricing is fairly competitive.
• Produce Price Rating: Medium-low with very competitive specials on a shortened flyer. The small flyer is nice because it doesn't uselessly feature $6 heads of cauliflower and extremely high-price items that are either a confusion on the consumer, or an insult on the injury of not being able to afford supreme quality items.

• Beef rib-steak (ungraded) - $7.88 per lb -- More ungraded beef at graded prices.

• Beef sirloin tip roast or marinating steaks (AAA) - $8.99 per lb -- Hmm, striploin AA versus sirloin tip AAA… Might be a toss up. Sirloin is leaner and has less marbling. But AAA might lend to a tenderness. This may be give and take, here…
• Lobster (live) - $10.99 per lb -- Scene Member Price.
• Pork chops - $3.49 per lb -- Not a great price, really, but it may be your option if you're stuck with Sobey's this week. Ad mentions it includes roasts.
• Picnic pork shoulder - $3.49 per lb -- We saw No Frills offereing this at 2.44/lb. A $1/lb more isn't great, admittedly. But, it's an option.
• Asparagus - $2.44 per lb -- Good price!
