I see a lot of people saying that keeping her alive if you side with Reed is the worst outcome. After siding with So-Mi once and seeing how often she lies to you, i don't buy it. Selling her out to try to save yourself is exactly what she does to you. I do feel sympathetic to her as a character, but everything is a consequence of her actions back to the very start. Play grown up games win grown up prizes.
Doing it to her before she does it to me does not make me a monster.

In response to the media pot shots that only the privileged can engage in the boycott... That's right. It's easier for those with time and a vehicle to go elsewhere to shop.
Those who can (I am one, with a vehicle) are not only in this for ourselves. I am boycotting for my community-- which is economically depressed-- and in a food desert. People in my community only have Sobeys (the original price gouger) or No Frills. The next grocery store is a VERY long bus ride away, or a very expensive cab ride.
There is a premise in ally work, that you 'LEVERAGE YOUR PRIVILEGE to yield the floor (Kayla Reed, Exec director, Action St.Louis-- check Twitter).
There is a small percentage of the population who can absorb the astronomical food price increases (and even with my privilege, I am having to choose whether or not I can buy fresh produce, anything that hasn't been discounted, etc).
The boycott is for ALL of us-- especially those who are having to choose between food or shelter or utilities or clothing. And honestly, as much as I hate Loblaws and Galen, this boycott is more about demanding government intervention across all of the big 5, regarding greed-flation.
So up yours, Galen, CBC, and anyone else who is trying to stain the movement with this divisive drivel.

Dear Mighty One,
I see the Lord's eye upon us we discover by revelation the 'new thing' He is doing in our lives and of those of us who, beyond the present darkness, gaze into His eyes. The 'tuning fork' of Yahweh is orchestrating the sons and daughters of our living God in growing holy remnant unity to withstand as we stand with Him fearlessly in the boldness of the faith of God in this hour. Egypt is behind us, and the covenantal promises and prophetic words we have received (1 Tim. 1:18) empower us by His Holy Spirit to advance in warfare, humbly growing in the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

Yesterday as I encouraged some friends, I said, 'stay in the blissful extravagance of His presence.' Today I saw in Psalm 34 His eyes are upon us in vs. 8 & 9 and v:15 about the 'uncompromisingly righteous.' We are to be holy as He is holy. That leaves no room for any more compromise or seeking to please man or the traditions of men, being free of the fear of man, the religious spirit, and any demonic activity. We are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. Lord, help us understand by revelation to walk in all the authority we have been given by Jesus Christ.
Psalm 34:8-9 'O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him. O fear the Lord, you His saints [revere and worship Him]! For there is no want to those who truly revere and worship Him with godly fear.'

2024.05.13 22:37 Selkiesxx Your Favorite Cards In MyFaction Right Now

I've had ridiculously good pack luck this year for whatever reason so the only card I've missed out on for Live Events was the 84 Randy Orton that just expired Monday morning (today). That said, it doesn't look like I'll be able to get the Action Figure Hulk Hogan but honestly, I'm okay with that as I think the model looks pretty goofy.
But to get myself back on the topic at hand, my favorite cards so far have been:
* (84) Bronson Reed - Beast Series I was elated when I pulled this bad boy the other day. I had already pulled the other Ruby (Bron Breakker) in one of the first packs I got of the Beast series so I knew that I got the man that likes to put "BIG" in front of his ring name when I saw the card glow red. He is just a brick shit-house and is probably my favorite in terms of how his gameplay can mimic his real-life move-set and the way he pulls them off. Also, he just \feels* good. Like you hit a clothesline with him or a shoulder block and it's somehow more satisfying than hitting those moves with anyone else. Plus, you got the Tsunami which is just an amazing Finisher. Definitely my absolute favorite card I have. I am about 30-35 cards away from getting the 89 Gunther though.*
* (84) Finn Balor - Live Event Reward Finn Balor is easily my favorite superstar of this generation and maybe that's strange to some of you out there but man, I'll never forget his second NXT run. I loved the way he carried himself and it felt like every single one of his matches at that time were five-star masterpieces; the Kyle O'Reilly, Adam Cole, and Damian Priest matches were some of my favorites of all-time, for whatever it's worth. So yeah, I like using Finn in 2K24 and I'm so glad that they \finally* did his corner taunt (the double guns) the right way.*
* (84) Vader - Live Event Reward Everything I said about Bronson Reed basically applies to Vader. He just feels like a concrete ball with appendages. Hitting his Finisher is so satisfying in this game, too. It's kind of funny because I really wasn't all that excited to get this card initially... now he's my go-to pick whenever I get matches against the 80s and 90s superstars.
* (82) Drew McIntyre - Sole Providers Somehow I got really lucky and pulled all the cards needed to get the (82) Shawn Michaels from the Sole Providers collection and while I do enjoy using HBK in the game, I really like this McIntyre card. Great move-set, he hits like a truck, and I love doing the corner countdown for the Claymore.
* (69) Grayson Waller - Heat Series DO NOT sleep on this card! It's weirdly amazing and honestly, I didn't expect that at all. I don't even really bother with any other male Gold cards that I have (although I do like the WM40 DLC ones... I just wish they were EVO cards). This card just wrecks shop whenever you need a Gold for a Live Event.
* (83) Tiffany Stratton - Live Event Reward Just a really fun move-set and overall, a very cool card to use. I can't wait to get a high-90s Tiffy Time.
* (83) Indi Hartwell - Backlash Series Weirdly dominant because of her high base Agility & Stamina ratings plus a pretty strong move-set that has quite a few tough to hit reverses and an excellent Finisher. I was so bummed when I turned the card over after seeing the glowing red in the pack but honestly, I'm so glad that I have her because she makes Ladder matches so quick and simple in Proving Grounds.
* (82) Bianca Belair - Proving Grounds Reward I love her ground attacks as the CPU never seem to be able to reverse most of them. You can kinda take your pick which card you like more between her Proving Grounds card and the Showcase reward one.
* (80) Gigi Dolin - MyRise Reward I have to admit that I feel like a dork for using this card as it outs you for choosing the pretty boring path but I can beat the yeet outta most everyone's asses with her
* (69) Xia Li - Sole Providers Just like the (69) Grayson Waller, this card goes hard and is my workhorse for those Gold LEs.

2024.05.13 14:09 NewWillinium Modding New Vegas is frustrating but worth it just for New California

. . Because it means that I can play Fallout New California again.
Let me explain.
So for some odd reason my Fallout New Vegas install had stopped working. No new mods had been installed, nothing new had been added, just a few mods had been updated.
So I uninstall the game and decide to look up the Viva New Vegas modding instructions for the first time, followi them to the letter, and then be proceeded by my Main Menu and mouse cursor completely disappearing and being unable to even start the game or bring up the console in the main menu. (Yeah you can do that with a lot of Bethesda system games. It's WEIRD but neat).
So I start going through the mods to see what is causing it, disabling them in batches to see which batch of mods fixes it so I can narrow down the culprits.
Nothing worked even when they were all disabled.
So I go into my plug-ins where I find the ghosts of like 15 previous installs just hanging around in there somehow.
So on the 4th try, I uninstalled New Vegas, uninstalled New California, and then deleted everything Fallout New Vegas from my Steam folders, my documents folder, and my appdata folders.
Reinstall, Reinstall New California, and then reinstall all of my "Must Have" mods.
Worked just fine initially, started adding more mods and the issue came back.
So I did the batch trick again.
And after two days of trying to fix New Vegas and find the issue I found it.
Googling for help was pretty much complete and utter trash, but I did find the solution to my problem in a mod bug forum for a mod I did not have.
So remember when I said I updated my mods regularly?
It turns out that one of those updates completely broke two mods that are meant to work together (Claim the Wasteland and FPGE) so one had to hunt down a patch to fix it.
Soon as that was done I could see my menu and mouse again and could finally play.
Not New Vegas. . . but Fallout New California.

Fallout New California is perhaps one of the most ambitious mods ever created in the Fallout Franchise, and don't get me wrong I'm not putting down other massive overhauls total conversions or expansion like mods like this, but it's one of the few mods where you can see how it's ambition and love for the series is what holds it together.
From the very beginning you are introduced to cutscenes honest to god cuteness with sweeping angles and following characters around like a proper Machinama.
A choice that will immediately decide how your tutorial goes, what companions you can get, and what unique choices you get for the rest of your playthrough down 5 distinct but fairly identical paths (NCR, Mob, Revanchist, Raiders, Enclave) and what your tutorial will be like and how everyone reacts to you in it.
From this tutorial, and scattered across the game, you will unlock unique perks through your actions that will give you both bonuses and unique dialogue and secrets.
This time around I went for the Path of the Scientist (Definitely what I would call the second playthrough run), where you can get an early eye on what is happening. As a Nerd you discover that the Enclave is preparing to raid your vault with the help of Coach Bragg, and the Overseer goes to get the Wasteland Scouts ready for the attempted Coup.
You also get a Robo-Dog and a giant Robot Friend with goo inside of them.
So after I wake up from the bombing I talk to the panicking people taking cover behind a turned over table and sprint down the hall way where, using a perk I obtained by being a Nerd, I can convince the Enclave "Patriots" that I wish to join them. Meeting up with Coach Bragg executing the Overseer's wife and son, and then convincing another of the Patriots to turn traitor with you and go help out the rest of the vault.
I have never seen any Fallout mod place so much importance on your choices, your decisions, or your skills, special, and perks.
Because it's not just in the Vault, these show up throughout the entire game of New California.
Which is where I have to stop praising for a bit to note how despite how impressive the sheer love, passion, and ambition is in New California. . .it's also unfinished in quite a few ways.
The Companions (other then Ben) basically stop existing after you escape from the Vault and the Raiders (excepting for a few lines of dialogue in the New Vegas half of the game and a few occasional barks), they become worst characters after escaping the Vault (Ben and Kira).
There is no real reason to explore New California as it's map is basically completely empty outside of a very small handful of sidequests and two towns only one of which has a quest.
And sadly it's performance can be. . .troubling at the best of times (The Vault really does seem to run the worst out of every area in the game other then the main hub for the NCR).
But it's writing is great, it's reactions are great, it's characters are fun and believable (other then the Mob Senator who is FAT EVIL personified), the Voice acting is phenomenal, some cool radio stations, even it's variety of endings is pretty solid.
But the game's ambition was it's downfall.
When the project began to fall apart it was ultimately left for two people to finish the entire thing. Despite asking for help from other modders in the Fallout community, no one would (Fallout's modding community has been noted as being particularly insular and hostile) and every time I've seen the developers speak both to me and others you can just feel the extreme bitterness they feel on the whole thing.
Which isn't really isolated to them either. Someguy dissipated because they sick and tired of complaints about how the Bounties mods were written and how vulgar they were. Th3Overseer stopped making serious mods and kind of just trolls and makes shitpost mods now, and The Frontier team is bitter and exhausted about having to hear how "bad" the Frontier is even as they work to improve it and remake it into something better on twitter.

I got a bit off track.
Fallout New Vegas modding, just on the player side of things, can be very exhausting, and I think it's worth it just so that I can playthrough the sheer passion project that is Fallout New California yet again.

Th3Overseer stopped making serious mods and kind of just trolls and makes shitpost mods now, and The Frontier team is bitter and exhausted about having to hear how "bad" the Frontier is even as they work to improve it and remake it into something better on twitter.

Fallout New Vegas modding, just on the player side of things, can be very exhausting, and I think it's worth it just so that I can playthrough the sheer passion project that is Fallout New California yet again.

2024.05.12 23:46 Greentoaststone Death Note characters aren't that stupid, actually.

DN characters (L and Light in particular) being considered smart by the anime community is no rare occurance. However, ever so often you'll also see people complain about that reputation, saying that the characters are actually idiots and what not. Now, they do make a lot of points, some good, others not so much, so I do plan on making more rants, but in this post I'll just attempt address a few moments in the anime/manga that I have seen many people point to when they try to explain their position

"Light fell for the "Lind L. Taylor trap""

Scene in question
Now, at first it's clear that this is a typical case of Light's ego acting up. However, while that is true, I don't think it's really an argument that says that Light is always incautious. You have to consider, this is the first encounter Light had with L.
He was completely inexperienced up to this point, and didn't even know what type of person L is. I mean, how often do you see detectives lay traps on this scale irl? If you were in Light's shoes, would you have expected this to be a trap that would end up revealing the region you live in, as well as the fact that you can't kill certain people? Like, Light isn't aware he is inside an anime with over 30 more episodes to go.
Furthermore, people seem to forget that one of Light's goals was to make himself known as god of the new world. He wanted people to know that Kira existed, so of course he'd use an opportunity of someone directly adressing him to make sure that everyone is actually aware of him. Before the broadcast, most weren't sure if Kira was even real.
After this event, Light acted a whole lot more cautiously. An example for this was when he checked wether or not his clothes were bugged, before talking to Ryuk, or when he layed a trap at the door to his room using pencil lead, or when he made sure to pick a flavour of chips that he knew his family wouldn't want to eat, so that they wouldn't prevent his potato chip strategy. It's these details that show that Light is perfectly capable of taking things seriously, and doesn't just let his ego go wild all day.

Light got lucky meeting Naomi by coincidence

Naomi had important information that would have let the investigators to find out Kira's identity. Light, coincidentily (iirc) meeting her, was able to prevent the information from reaching them.
While Light was definitely lucky here, most seem to gloss over the fact that Light still had to prevent her from reaching them. He literally had to manipulate her into giving him her name, meanwhile making sure she didn't suspect a thing, whiles also being under pressure because he had to do so before she reached the building. And it's not like Naomi was easy to convince either, she gave him a false name after all, among other things.
Additionally, it's not like Light is lucky all the time. The fact that Raye Pember even had a fiance who was also an ex-fbi agent is also an example of luck not being in Light's favour. Or how about Sidoh's return, which led him to lose a Death Note and was also something that was outside of Light's control. I mean, he didn't even know that his Death Note wasn't Ryuk's.
The point I am trying to make is, is that's it's not all about getting lucky, it's also how you use that luck.

The way Near deduced Mikami being X-Kira is nonsensical

Scene in question
Enough about Light (for now), let's talk about one of the most overhated characters in the entire series, Near. He just looks at the screen and immediately guesses Mikami to be X-Kira.
This is entirely the anime's fault. As with many other things of the 2nd half of Death Note, the anime just cut almost all of Near's reasoning behind it. There is a comment under the video that sums it up pretty well, so I am just going to copy and paste it here

Ok so the manga does this scene differently, Near realised that mikami is X Kira in a logical manor. He deduced X Kira appointed takada as spokes person as light was being observed by aizawa at the time. Thus he looked into people takada spoke with on tv, he homes in on mikami as he appeared on tv shortly after killing demigawa to ask permission to appoint another spokes person. Hence the part where he said on the tape "I want to hear from Kira again". It's meant to be a hidden message to Light, he goes on to say somthing about taking action if he doesn't hear Kira's words soon. Anyway Near realised that mikiami was trying to communicate with Kira via the show and when he got no answer he appointed Takada. After that he had Mikami watched and his suspicions were confrimed when Mikami appeared to use the notebook.

Anyways, that's enough for this post, I am planning on doing more on this topic in the future, because honestly, it's A LOT of points people had made against DN characters.

Some strats: - the usual Pea Vine, Torch and any other plants, would suggest Appease-mint - the old strat for this Zomboss: Pokra, Pumpkin, Spear-mint and Reinforce-mint. But I'll admit, it's not as useful as before, was able to get to the bonus phase at 1:30 on Extra-hot. Can replace reinforce-mint by blover. - best strat: hbl, TG and Enforce-mint. Bring whatever plant you like, it works (except summoners Cf. Note). This strat can work whether you got TG or not. But if you have TG and not hbl, it can works but not always, did not try it. - TG, Wasabi Whip, Pyre Vine and Enforce-mint. - BB, Pea Vine, appease-mint, any other plant. - Sbr, Pea Vine, Dandelion and Appease-mint. Note: - Plants summoners aren't great in this Zomboss lvl: Zoybean Pod and Turkey-pult especially, cause once Zomboss jumps to another location, your Zomboids or Turkeys will continue their path to the end of the board and will trigger Flame traps burning all your plants on that lane. - Blover can be a really great asset for early players or just if you have no idea of which plant to choose.

2024.05.11 22:22 Ladysilvert (Spoilers extended) Jon's arch in ADWD, parallels with other Targs events

I liked a lot Jon's whole arch in ADWD, and specially after realising how George has filled the whole "Jon rescuing mission of FArya", which will be the main topic of this post, with references or parallels to other events in ASOIAF and specially, to other Targ events. Let's begin:
Jon sends Mance, disguised as "Abel the singer", to Winterfell in a rescue mission of Arya. It's a straightforward parallel to Bael the Bard myth, since Jon has learnt this story from Ygritte and later Mance. Mance is specially interested in the whole Bael story:

A ranger of the Shadow Tower, Mance often sang of Bael the Bard after returning from rangings beyond the Wall

Mance goes to Winterfell disguised as Abel, which is an anagram for "Bael" with 6 companions disguised as relatives, to snatch a Lady of Winterfell from the Lord of the Castle. It's obvious Mance was trying to recreate a story he has been fascinated with. But the interesting thing is that Bael the Bard is strongly tied to The Tower of Joy Event.
In the original Bael story, we have that Bael is deeply upset with the Lord of Winterfell for calling him a coward. So he disguises as a Bard to enter Winterfell. To reward him for his great music, the Lord of Winterfell offers him whatever he wants, and he chooses the most beautiful blooming flower. The next day, he has disappeared, kidnapping the daughter of Lord Stark, and leaving in her stead a blue winter rose. They searched for them for a long time, until the daughter appeared again with a baby boy, when House Stark was near extinction.
The reason why they never found them was because they had stayed hidden in the crypts, and she was really in love with Bael. Lord Stark raised the boy himself, and never revealed his true parentage. Said boy grew up to be Lord Stark and fought his biological father Bael who had became King beyond the Wall. Bael, who knew he was his son coudn't kill his child, and let the new Lord Stark killed him in battle. When Lord Stark's mother discovered what had happened, she threw herself from a window since she was still in love with Bael, and Lord Stark was slained by some Boltons.
This is clearly a reference to Jon's parents: Rhaegar was known for his love of music and deeply admired for playing the harp and singing. He alledgedly kidnapped the Lord of Winterfell's beautiful daughter Lyanna, who has been linked over and over again to blue roses, though we have reasons to believe Lyanna wasn't truly kidnapped and was in love with Rhaegar, same as Bael and his lady Stark. Jon was raised also by the Lord of Winterfell as his own, without knowing the truth of his real parentage.
Ygritte said this to Jon (which reminds me so much of the comment of Plumm in The Mystery knight btw when he proclaims they were all bastard Targs, I am so sure Maynard Plumm was really BloodRaven disguised)

Ygritte: So there it is—you have Bael's blood in you, same as me.
Jon: It never happened.
Ygritte: Might be it did, might be it didn't. It is a good song, though

Yes, Jon has Bael's blood (Rhaegar's blood).
There is a direct wink to ToJ in FArya rescue mission:

At the end of Robert's Rebellion, Lord Eddard Stark and six of his companions (Howland Reed, Lord Willam Dustin, Ethan Glover, Martyn Cassel, Theo Wull, and and Ser Mark Ryskwell) approached the tower.

Mance also went to rescue FArya with 6 companions

Mance infiltrates with Frenya, Holly, Myrtle, Rowan, Squirrel, and Willow.

Curious fact: Squirrel is one of Arya's nicknames, and Willow is the name of a girl Brienne suspects to be Arya.
The thing is I believe Jon is himself mirroring Bael's story and Tower of Joy's scenario as Rhaegar or Bael. George makes it seem in a more obvious way that it's Mance the one to mirror those two, but the one to send Mance, the one that is "stealing a Stark bride" is Jon. And that's what Ramsay directly tells Jon is his letter.

Your false king's friends are dead. Their heads upon the walls of Winterfell. Come see them, bastard. Your false king lied, and so did you. You told the world you burned the King-Beyond-the-Wall. Instead you sent him to Winterfell to steal my bride from me. I will have my bride back. If you want Mance Rayder back, come and get him. I have him in a cage for all the north to see, proof of your lies. The cage is cold, but I have made him a warm cloak from the skins of the six whores who came with him to Winterfell.
I want my bride back...Keep them from me, and I will cut out your bastard's heart and eat it.

In the bold sentences, Ramsay not only accuses him of stealing his bride. He also accuses him of being a liar. So, a thief and a liar. Funny how Jon said the same about Bael.

Jon: Your Bael was a liar. Ygritte: No, but a bard's truth is different than yours or mine.

Technically Jon may be a liar, but he didn't know the truth of Mance and Rattleshirt until later when Melisandre reveals the hoax.
Also, Jon is called a thief a lot, specially by wildlings for stealing women, though he didn't intend to "steal" Ygritte, he did it unintentionally. Here he is just trying to save his sister, but he is accused by Ramsay of stealing his bride Lady Stark, In a similar way, Rhaegar probably just eloped with Lyanna, and in Rhaegar's dumb lovesick mind he was "saving" his loved one from her fiancee (not comparing really Robert with Ramsay though, Rhaegar fucked up and Jon is just trying to save Arya from a monster).
Theon's quote reminds me a little of Rhaegar, too:

Abel had doomed them. All singers were half-mad. In songs, the hero always saved the maiden from the monster's castle, but life was not a song.

In the same way, Rhaegar ("the hero") eloped because of love with his maiden, but since life was not a song, he died and thousands suffered in the country,
All three: Bael, Rhaegar and Jon have the same ending: they die because of their most beloved person.

Bael died because of his love to his son.
Rhaegar died because of his love to Lyanna
Jon died because of his love of Arya.

There's also a deeper parallel between Jon's death and Rhaegar's death. The last thing they thought of is of their loved one (Rhaegar of his woman, Jon of his sister Arya).

Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman's name

George confirmed the name was Lyanna.

“Jon fell to his knees. He found the dagger’s hilt and wrenched it free. In the cold night air the wound was smoking. “Ghost,” he whispered. Pain washed over him. Stick them with the pointy end. When the third dagger took him between the shoulder blades, he gave a grunt and fell face-first into the snow. He never felt the fourth knife. Only the cold

Yes, the last word was Ghost, but the very last thought was a sentence he associates 100% with Arya, the person that indirectly caused his death (because of his love for her, he broke his vows and his brothers in the NW killed him), same as Rhaegar died against Robert because of the actions he had commiteed in his love for Lyanna.
But (finally) after talking about ToW and Bael the Bard, there is also a parallel between the Pink Letter and a Targ event which, to be true, we don't know almost nothing: The famous mysterious letter Aegon the Conqueror received, and that made him change his mind completely and admit Dorne was indepent.

Deria indeed suggested the peace, and it is said that King Aegon was about to refuse, when she handed him a letter from Nymor. King Aegon read the letter on the Iron Throne, allegedly clenching the bladed seat so hard his hand started to bleed, burned it once finished, and flew to Dragonstone on Balerion without a word. When he returned the next morning, he agreed to the peace and signed a treaty.

Let's see Jon's reaction to Ramsay's Letters. The first one:

Ramsay Bolton, Lord of the Hornwood, it read, in a huge, spiky hand. The brown ink came away in flakes when Jon brushed it with his thumb. Beneath Bolton's signature, Lord Dustin, Lady Cerwyn, and four Ryswells had appended their own marks and seals. A cruder hand had drawn the giant of House Umber. "Might we know what it says, my lord?" asked Iron Emmett.
Jon saw no reason not to tell him. "Moat Cailin is taken. The flayed corpses of the ironmen have been nailed to posts along the kingsroad. Roose Bolton summons all leal lords to Barrowton, to affirm their loyalty to the Iron Throne and celebrate his son's wedding to …" His heart seemed to stop for a moment. No, that is not possible. She died in King's Landing, with Father....... By now she’d be eleven, Jon thought. Still a child. “I have no sister. Only brothers. Only you.” Lady Catelyn would have rejoiced to hear those words, he knew. That did not make them easier to say. His fingers closed around the parchment. Would that they could crush Ramsay Bolton’s throat as easily. (Jon VI, ADWD)

Both Jon and Aegon receive a letter from the biggest enemy House (House Bolton, House Martell). The letter shakens both of them deeply, Jon clenching the paper in anger and Aegon clenching the throne till he bleeds. Jon feels deeply upset with this letter, but it's the Pink Letter that gets the biggest reaction out of him.

Jon flexed the fingers of his sword hand. The Night’s Watch takes no part. He closed his fist and opened it again. What you propose is nothing less than treason. He thought of Robb, with snowflakes melting in his hair. Kill the boy and let the man be born. He thought of Bran, clambering up a tower wall, agile as a monkey. Of Rickon’s breathless laughter. Of Sansa, brushing out Lady’s coat and singing to herself. You know nothing, Jon Snow. He thought of Arya, her hair as tangled as a bird’s nest. I made him a warm cloak from the skins of the six whores who came with him to Winterfell … I want my bride back … I want my bride back … I want my bride back … “I think we had best change the plan,” Jon Snow said.
"The Night's Watch takes no part in the wars of the Seven Kingdoms," Jon reminded them when some semblance of quiet had returned. "It is not for us to oppose the Bastard of Bolton, to avenge Stannis Baratheon, to defend his widow and his daughter. This creature who makes cloaks from the skins of women has sworn to cut my heart out, and I mean to make him answer for those words ... but I will not ask my brothers to forswear their vows.
"The Night's Watch will make for Hardhome. I ride to Winterfell alone, unless ..." Jon paused. "... is there any man here who will come stand with me?"

Both Aegon and Jon have a complete change of heart after reading the letter's contents, and both take action: Jon intends to save his sister, leaving Castle Black where he is the "ruler", to Winterfell, the ancestral seat of his family. Aegon leaves KL where he is King of the IT to Dragonstone, which is the ancestral seat of his family. Now, from here pure speculation:
I think if one of the most extended theories about the content of Aegon's letter ends up being right (Rhaenys being alive and tortured by the Ullers) it would make the Pink letter a very good parallel of Aegon's, since in both Aegon and Jon discover their beloved sister is alive, and that she is in the hands of the enemy, a House famous for torture and being sadists terrible people. So they would both had given up one of their biggest oaths and beliefs (for Aegon, conquering Dorne; for Jon, not breaking his vows) to save a beloved sister.
I for sure feel George is a genius for drawing so much parallels between stories within ASOIAF.
Aditionally, Bael the Bard and his son Lord Stark's endings are for sure infuenced by Greek's mythology: Bael's son would be Oedipus, who killed unknowingly his own father Laius, King of Thebes. After discovering this, his mother Jocasta killed herself (though in the Greek there was incest also in the tale, since Oedipus had married Jocasta without knowing she was his mother, weird that there was more incest in the original story than in ASOIAF story lol).

today i finished mission where you go as aurora cassel and the other twin (i forgot his name) with face implants and while standing infront of neural matrix i choose to betray reed , honestly i liked reed way more than songbird , he just seems better somehow that i cannot explain , but i read about it on other reddit post posted by someone else , and people's opinions are way different ,i couldn't really choose which one should i betray, it's too early in game dlc for choices like this , however i believe that opinions here may let me choose , should i load other save and betray songbird , or stay on her side, all help will be appreciated.

2024.05.09 19:43 pilsrups Aangereden op de wielrenfiets, wat nu?

Ben vandaag aangereden op m’n wielrenfiets door een scootmobiel. Op een lang fietspad rechtdoor reed een scootmobiel in dezelfde richting als ik reed. Ik besluit in te halen en op de andere weghelft ruim er omheen te fietsen. Op het moment dat ik er ongeveer naast zit, besluit scootmobiel meneer plotsklaps een u-turn te maken. Heeft niet in z’n spiegel gekeken en van tevoren ook geen remsignaal of richting aangegeven. Omdat het een doorgaand fietspad is ook absoluut geen aanleiding om iets anders te doen dan rechtdoor te rijden, je kan hier niet af slaan of keren.
Toen het gebeurde kon ik gelukkig aardig uitwijken het gravel/voetpad en ben niet gevallen, maar hij ramde met z’n scootmobiel wel m’n derailleur en achterwiel. Derailleur is afgebroken en compleet verwrongen en enkele spaken van achterwiel zijn kapot en er is (ogenschijnlijk) alleen wat lakschade aan de fiets.
Scootmobielmeneer wilde eigenlijk meteen doorrijden maar ik begon kenbaar te maken dat dat niet helemaal de bedoeling was en kwam toch even kijken. Meneer spreekt gebrekkig Nederlands dus naam en adres noteren was niet heel makkelijk. Heb een vermoeden dat daar ook een en ander niet correct is opgegeven want als ik z’n naam Google krijg ik een of ander model en z’n adres blijkt een Vomar in de buurt. Mobiele nr heb ik wel en een foto van z’n kentekenplaatje.
Ik heb een vermoeden dat deze persoon - als hij al verzekerd is - lastig gaat doen met schade vergoeden.
Wat zou nu mijn beste course of action zijn om de schade te laten vergoeden?

Spoilers for any plot points involving Mandragora and Tara in Episode 9 and onwards, as well as What the Firelight Casts and a little bit of Lingering Echoes. I’ll only be touching on the Horn lines in Episode 14 since I don’t want to read too far ahead and they’re kinda the main focus, but feel free to discuss anything related to Tara that may have come up because I am interested. Anything translated from CN text I can not really verify since I do not speak Chinese.
TL;DR: The conflicting information regarding Mandragora’s status is likely intentional. I like her because she is a complex character to the point where the community feels split on whether they want her to be alive or dead. She doesn’t need to become playable. Mandragora can either be alive or dead at this point. Let HG cook and hopefully they do something with either her living or her death since neither were utilized. Please give us another Dublinn/Tara event soon.
I also want to mention that a lot of my research was done using the Terra Wiki. If anything sounds familiar, it’s because I spent the last 3 days cross referencing with the story itself. Anything that crosses the line into plagiarism is not my intent, I’m just stupid and haven’t written an essay in years. Obligatory “stop using the Fandom wiki. Please support the Terra Wiki.” Fandom is super out of date at this point and is objectively a worse user experience. Also, the person who changed Mandragora’s status to “Deceased?” is a legend. I laughed at it since it’s so unclear at the moment.

An Attempt to Clarify Mandragora’s Status (and also defend Hypergryph’s writing decisions)

Why do I like Mandragora?

Mandragora is a character that gets a lot of reactions from the community whenever she’s brought up. It’s pretty easy to see why if you’ve read Episode 9, she’s not exactly a good person on a simple black and white scale of morality. She’s short-tempered, ruthless, seems to hate anyone that isn’t Taran or otherwise allied with the Tarans, sometimes even hating those who are allied with the Tarans. Perfect villain material for the episode she’s the main villain of; Episode 9, where her list of war crimes rivals many of our own war criminals in Rhodes Island. But what makes Mandragora a fascinating character to me are a whole lot of factors regarding the history of Victoria and its relationship with Tara. Mandragora didn’t just wake up one day and decide to start slaughtering random civilians on the streets. Mandragora is the premier character to give us insight into how average Taran citizens are treated in “modern” Victoria, which is why I hope that Hypergryph didn’t decide to retroactively remove her from the story. I also want to go through a lot of the statements made on her status to attempt to clear the air regarding speculation on her status, since I keep seeing people make statements that, while aren’t completely false, can’t exactly be proved with our current knowledge of the story. So as to say, stop making assumptions and let HG cook.
I should probably add since creating an essay about a character like this makes me seem unhinged, which I am, but I’m not exactly a simp for this character. She’s probably my favorite character in regards to story in the game right now, I’ll admit that much, and if she becomes playable I’ll pull for her regardless of meta status. That being said, if she never becomes playable then I’m fine with that too, so long as she gets a satisfying conclusion to her story or if her death does something for the story or characters, like Guard. The purpose of this is to create discussion, not to beg for a banner or event, though I’ll definitely take one if given.

Meet the Tarans

To start, let’s look at the history of Tara. Pretty much all of the history surrounding Tara revolves around the fact that Tara and Victoria were once separate nations until Tara was annexed in a process described as peaceful by the Victorians, but as forced subjugation by the Tarans (Reed Alter’s Files, Archive 3). Which account is more accurate cannot objectively be proved, but it doesn’t matter a whole lot. We see Tarans get treated pretty poorly by Victorians throughout events they are present in. While this isn’t the exact reason Dublinn was formed, it is what their goals seem to align to for a lot of their members. Of course, we haven’t had the focus on them in quite a while, and Eblana seems less concerned about that aspect than her own ambitions, which is why I think Mandragora is such a necessary character for Dublinn to have. Eblana and Reed are both nobility -Reed is far more sympathetic to the plight of the average Taran citizen, but as a noble, she does have certain privileges that common people like Mandragora don’t have. As well as being playable, we also know that things work out for her just fine in the end. Unless of course HG starts throwing screwballs at us in the future.
I do hope we learn more about Dublinn, Tara, and their conflict with Victoria in the near future, since it seems like the Sarkaz have taken center stage for the current main story arcs, which is definitely fine and this isn’t a complaint about what direction the main story should be headed in. It would be much better told in an event since it doesn’t relate to the main cast as much.

A Bit More About the Cat

What do we currently know about Mandragora? Well, she’s angry about a lot of things for a pretty good reason and hates being looked down on. This stems from her issues with the Victorian nobility, but are not limited to them specifically. She hates the Sarkaz seemingly for the same reason and I’m sure she’d hate anyone else who does the same. She’s also not Infected, which I didn’t really pay attention to until people started discussing how she could have died. This is something to note since it means that any oppression she’s faced has entirely been due to her being Taran, rather than the standard treatment the Infected face.
She isn’t only ruthless though. In Episode 10 when she’s among her own people, we see her care about their wellbeing as they attempt to extract the Spy, Cillian, from Sarkaz occupied territory. While it’s stated that they’re old friends, it does go to show that she does have the capacity to show compassion and isn’t simply sociopathic. Sure, she’s a little crazy, but if she was shouting “eat the rich” a good majority of you would probably be down with it.
Along with caring for her own soldiers, we know that she really looks up to the Leader of Dublinn, Eblana. One of the main motivators for her to rescue the Spy was to gain further approval from her. She even seems to be taken aback when the Spy states that they’ve been abandoned. In What the Firelight Casts, it’s stated that The Elocutionist, one of the commanders who were vaporized by Outcast, was apparently manipulating her into fracturing Dublinn, which could mean that the higher ups didn’t really care for Mandragora. Her entire relationship with Eblana was possibly one-sided. And considering she was upset that Harmonie was by the Leader’s side and worried that the Leader may discard the commoners of Dublinn, she may have realized that by the end of her story.
Harmonie does mention in 10-13 that Eblana has “never forgotten her first Taran compatriots,” but whether that is true or not is unknown.

The Cat’s “Death”

By this point, anyone who has read the story knows how 10-8 through 10-13 play out. To summarize, Mandragora breaks the Spy out of a factory she was entrusted by Manfred to defend. She runs into Horn on the way and they make it very clear that they do not like one another before going separate ways. Horn runs into Manfred and gets saved by Misery. They both comment on how out of her league Mandragora is when it comes to escaping Manfred, how she likely won’t escape the factory alive, and how she’s beyond saving. All of the people Mandragora was leading were killed by Manfred’s forces and she makes a last stand after being surrounded. Manfred, frankly, embarrasses her in terms of combat prowess. After a final desperate attack on Manfred, she collapses among the bodies of her soldiers, left by Manfred to die.
By all means this would be a death scene, but then Misery had to show up and cause problems for us. Misery offers her a chance to escape to the sewers, which she seemingly refuses, leaving her fate unknown.

The Insanity Arc

Here starts the insanity arc of the cat fans. So much of the wording is ambiguous in regards to her final fate. A comment I’ve seen a lot recently is “she isn’t infected, why would she die from exhaustion,” which I agree with. However, she was surrounded by Manfred and his men and even seemingly struck by Manfred, but with a blunt sound effect used, meaning not by his sword. I don’t think it’s reasonable to assume Manfred and his men just stood around blocking attacks until Mandragora exhausted herself, but there also isn’t any blood in the image of her lying on the ground. Simply a description of what she feels.
If you take everything at face value you can say she died, but there’s so much literary spinning going on that it becomes unclear. Death is so flowery in literature. Did Mandragora die? Did “Mandragora” die? What does “she has met the true Death” mean?
The answer can really only lie in the mind of the reader at this point of the story. Either Mandragora died literally, or “met the true Death” refers to “Mandragora” as the commander of the Specter Force dying. All of her aspirations at this moment have failed and she is on the ground at her seemingly lowest point. Her old friend is dead in front of her, she’s surrounded by the bodies of those she cared about; she has been abandoned by Eblana, the one she looks up to the most; she might have realized that she was disposed by Dublinn in general; she was embarrassed and pitied by her enemy, and now she’s being told that by lowering herself even further and climbing into the sewers by a different enemy, she can have a chance to start again. It sounds like the most literary “death” you could ever write. However, this is literary analysis. A different reader could simply comment “nuh-uh” and shut this down immediately. Some people just want the cat dead, which is fair, since there’s enough evidence to support that she simply dies here as well.
Welcome to literary analysis, where everything is made up and everything makes a lot of sense and no sense simultaneously. As a quick note, I did pretty well in my AP Literature classes in high school, and that’s my only claim. Someone smarter than me can call me stupid and there’s nothing I can do about it since I don’t have a degree in English Literature and high school was quite a bit ago. Forward this to an English major that plays AK or something. I’d be curious to hear what they think.

Contradictions

Anyways, 3-4 months later, What the Firelight Casts is released. Dublinn officers reveal that they believe Mandragora is dead (FC-2 After). Harmonie also reveals that she did crawl into the sewers and die (FC-6 After). Eblana also reveals that she is aware that Mandragora crawled into the sewers and died (FC-8 Before). People say this is a contradiction and that Hypergryph forgot, but wait for a moment because then randomly, years later in Episode 14, Horn reveals to Bagpipe that she confirmed her death and buried Mandragora outside the walls of Londinium.
Now from this point forward, all we can do is wait and speculate. I’ve seen so many Mandragora believers say so many things about all of this. That HG did Mandragora dirty, they forgot her story, killed her offscreen, etc.
I’ll start by saying that is one possibility. It is entirely possible that Mandragora is just a side character to them and they forgot her story while writing. I find it unlikely though. How many times has Arknights/HG set up a story point months/years in advance of actually using it? To give a relevant example, Outcast’s death was foreshadowed in IS1 with the Broken Revolver Cylinder artifact. 2 months after is when Episode 9 released. For a less related example, how about the key from the end of Grani and the Knights’ Treasure being brought up in Under Tides 7 months later, then again in Stultifera Navis years later. I find two things unlikely: the first is that they would forget important character plot points like this, and the second that they would bring up a character for no reason. It’s because of this that I don’t think they would kill a character for no reason either. Let’s start by comparing Mandragora with some different corpses.

Guard and Gertrude and Killing Characters

I don’t have a whole lot to say about the circumstances of Guard’s death as a whole, and there was already a post talking about how AK isn’t at the end game with comments like, “no HG isn’t killing off characters because they’re running out of story room” that covers it better than I could be bothered to here. I mainly want to give my opinion on character deaths in Arknights and stories in general.
In stories, important characters, both heroes and villains, rarely die without reason. Everyone has a certain level of narrative plot armor that stops them from being randomly hit by a car or stray bullet. If an important hero dies, it will have setup, and the payoff will usually reverberate throughout the story as it continues. If a villain dies, it’s usually because it’s usually towards the heroes’ goals, or a bigger, badder villain needs to strut their stuff.
Arknights doesn’t really work on a “good guy, bad guy” two-sided chart. There are good people and bad people, but a lot of gray between. Guard is a bit of a villain during the Reunion arc since he kinda betrays us for them, but is treated as a good guy from Reunion’s perspective in Episode 13. His death, while some think is a bit too sudden, is treated as a hero’s death. The setup is him making contact with an outside group, getting caught in a tragedy, and leaving a final message to Reunion to accept everyone, not just the Infected, which no doubt will have an impact going forward. Thinking about it more, it’s a good ass death. It seems like it acts as a mirror to Alina’s death. One of the final things Alina says to Talulah is to never hate anyone, Guard’s final words are to accept everyone. Alina’s death causes Talulah to fall into her rage, which nearly destroys Reunion, Guard’s death seems to almost bolster Reunion.
For an example of a villain’s death, Gertrude gets killed while monologuing. It’s sudden, might have been foreshadowed, I don’t remember Lingering Echoes very well and I haven’t read Zwillingsturme yet to see if it has any impact. She dies because she was an obstacle in the heroes’ way.
Mandragora doesn’t really fall into either category. If she is truly dead, her death has had zero impact. She also wasn’t in the way of any hero. Did she die for Manfred to strut his stuff? It doesn’t really seem like that either; he was already an established threat and hasn’t done much strength based villainy since then.
The point I’m getting to with this is that narratively, it doesn’t really make any sense to kill Mandragora at this point. She isn’t a threat, she isn’t a hero, her death would have no impact on any characters, and it would only serve as comeuppance for her actions in Episode 9. But death isn’t that bad of a consequence compared to the alternative, which is her continuing to live knowing that she had been fooled into becoming an enemy to her cause, abandoned by the leader she looks up to, and all of her friends are dead to an enemy that embarrassed her by letting her live out of pity.

Short Summary About Misery

Misery probably didn’t kill Mandragora. Almost certainly, but we can never be certain about these things. We don’t know a whole lot about Misery, but we have a few things. First, he was best friends with Outcast, which would be a decent reason to kill Mandragora for, since she’s indirectly responsible for her death. This is contradicted by the second; he “wants to let the living live” (9-20) in regards to Outcast’s death. In fact, he seems to be opposed to killing in general. “I’m no assassin. Unless it’s called for, I have zero desire to harm any Sarkaz at all” (10-12 After). Speculating on this would be pointless, we need more information. All of this to say, he likely wouldn’t let any potential ill will get in the way of his job in regards to Mandragora.

Clearing the HG Bad Writing Allegations

Let’s go over what every character saw from their perspective. Harmonie says that she died in the sewers. In Episode 14,Horn says offhandedly that she confirmed her death and buried her outside the wall of Londinium. Let’s go over the possibilities of each perspective

Harmonie is a Double Agent

Section Title. Harmonie is a double agent. It’s ambiguous whether or not she witnessed the battle, but it’s possible she did. We also know that she’s close to Eblana, but not loyal, since she’s an employee of Rhodes Island. All of Dublinn believes she is dead. I think it’s reasonable to assume that Harmonie reported it, she was shown in 10-13 briefly as a transition during the battle, after all.
Let’s be honest though. Can you trust a character that looks like this: >:3
Or a character that is actively working as a double agent? Narratively, it makes no sense to bring Mandragora up in any conversation in WTFC. It feels more like foreshadowing that she’s still alive, but you can call that “cope” if you want.
I think it’s possible that Harmonie is covering for her here. If she was captured by Rhodes Island for information, then it would be advantageous for Dublinn to not know that.
On top of this, if they did witness Mandragora go into the sewers, did they go into the sewers to check? It really just feels like an assumption on Dublinn’s part.

Misery Captured Mandragora for Information

This is still my personal belief. I’ll cover Horn in a moment, but this does not contradict her statement to Bagpipe.
Why would Misery, or anyone in that vicinity, leave a valuable source of enemy information lying in the street? It would make very little sense in a world like Arknights, which is generally pretty logic driven. Of course, Harmonie could have all the information they need, but even still it doesn’t make sense to simply leave her alone. We’ve captured worse war criminals in the past and will in the future.
Here’s a tweet from the “hear ye hear ye” guy. I don’t fully subscribe to this notion since Harmonie could have told us all of this and it actively de-confirms Eblana as playable, which is a whole can of worms I’m not opening, but it is food for thought in regards to this.

A Certain Character's Statement in Episode 14 Has Two Outcomes

I have no clue if I need to tag this is spoilers. If you're reading this, you probably already know the scene I'm talking about. If you're scared of Episode 14 spoilers, it's about 10 lines at most. Otherwise, just keep scrolling I guess.
Hear me out here guys. First off, I don’t speak Chinese. Here’s a non-MTL translation of the scene. I can’t confirm anything, since I don’t know Chinese, so let’s just take it at face value.
I really quickly want to debunk another thing I see said. Yes, Horn could have been in contact with Mandragora after she got wrecked by Manfred. 10-12 After, she gets saved by Misery. 10-13, Misery gets in contact with Mandragora after she gets bodied. 10-14 Before, Horn and Misery are both in the same locale. Manfred had already left, which is why Misery could walk over. You could chalk it up to his Arts, but nothing about the scene or story tells us that Horn couldn’t just walk over with him or otherwise be standing behind him, just off screen.

They're Telling the Truth

We can take the scene at face value. Misery captured Mandragora, she died in their care, Horn gave Mandragora a proper burial despite her hatred for her. Cat is dead. She hesitates when speaking because she is in disbelief that she could show an enemy like that compassion

They're Lying

Bagpipe is going through it in that scene. Horn tells a lie to make her feel better, hesitating because she's thinking of something on the spot. Which part is she lying about? The part where she got in contact with Mandragora, the part that Mandragora died, the part that she buried Mandragora? Take your pick to suit your theory.
Basically, Horn would need to lie, which feels out of character, or be deceived for this to be true.

Could They Have Been Deceived?

Misery was in the area and has matter manipulation Arts. It would be weird though. I don’t think Horn was part of Rhodes Island at this point though, so if he was trying to extract Mandragora then I could see it happening.

Where could Mandragora be now?

Here are all the relevant possibilities:

Dead in the sewers
- Harmonie wasn’t kidding, Horn was lying
Dead, buried outside the city walls
- Horn was telling the truth
Dead, next to Spy’s body
- Everyone was lying, she just dies lmao
Alive, chilling among the bodies
- Misery was just testing her loyalty or something, was not taken
Alive, angrily digging her way out of the ground again
- Horn wasn’t lying, but Mandragora somehow faked her death
- Also a parallel to her backstory, which would be fitting
Alive, in Rhodes Island’s custody for information
- Horn lied to keep Bagpipe calm about this
Dead, a corpse in Eblana’s corpse army
- Actually completely possible
- Super messed up

Conclusion

Mandragora is a character whose plot feels unresolved compared to other “dead” characters. I can’t see any reason for HG to continue bringing her up unless they really want to crush our hopes, or if they’re foreshadowing her return. WTFC first ran 18 months ago in CN and was the last mention of her until Episode 14. If another Dublinn/Taran event happens and she isn’t mentioned in any way then we can assume she is dead. If they say she’s dead again, then she is absolutely not dead because why would they keep bringing it up? To hurt people’s feelings? I don’t even think Frostnova had this many random mentions after the fact, and her death had an actual impact.
In conclusion, I don’t really care if she’s alive or dead. I just want closure. As in a conclusion. I do want Closure too.
