I present to you, the GRILLEX 3000
My GF's dad built this cooker years ago and gifted it to me last year. Can fit up a 100lbs on the spit, does great for smaller pig roasts. He offset the barrel so the spit doesn't have to be directly over the coals if you don't want it to be - which is a nice touch. I finally got to take it out for a cookout my brother put together. Three 8lb leg of lamb on the spit. For the people who hung out while the lamb turned we make two pans of hash browns, 2lbs of bacon and 7 steaks for breakfast.

2024.05.14 17:29 IndependenceMean29 Weight gain

At my lowest when I was restricting I had TERRIBLE body dysmorphia, I never felt as skinny as I looked and I just wanted to lose more, weigh less. My brain wasn’t ready to recover and let go of the one coping mechanism I had that was free and accessible, however my body didn’t agree and eventually my mental health got even worse. I had horrible emotional regulation and physical pain-I decided to begin recovering.
It was SO hard the first few days and one night I felt extremely unloved and unmotivated so I made myself throw up the big meal I had, start a fast and think about going back to restricting.
Despite this I talked things out with my family member and continued recovery as my physical health deteriorating was more scary than my desire to get thinner, I gave in to EH all the time and felt so happy eating homemade food and nostalgic meals I wasn’t allowing myself before. I’m happy to say I haven’t relapsed, the only issue is that I’m finally noticing weight gain and it’s making me extremely uncomfortable. My restriction lasted from January to around the end of May and I had lost a lot of weight and was underweight (I never really got to enjoy that body due to my mindset) but now that I’m gaining I wish I was still that thin.
I feel like a fraud and a binge eater, in my opinion my extreme hunger should be over, i’m convinced i’m just pigging out at this point and if I don’t stop i’ll become overweight and i’m so scared of being “fat” again.
I don’t want to think like this, I don’t want to be scared of gaining weight, I don’t want to desire to be underweight and sick, I don’t want my hair and teeth to all fall out, I want to be at peace with myself and life. I hope I can figure things out soon because I don’t want to use even more extreme things to cope with my life in addition to this mindset.

You are not recommended to try spells to bring a lover back if you are going through the following: You know that your relationship with your ex is toxic and the best painful option to take in this is to move on. It is not a good choice to be in a relationship that is un-natural, one that is built on witchcraft. The love spark as to be their at all times.
Even the most powerful love spell may not fulfill the things that are required for a real relationship to be in place. Love should be natural and if your partner looses interest in you, its better that you let them follow the heart. If one door closes, expect another open infront of you.
Therefore witchcraft or love spells should not be the ultimate solution to mending a broken heart in a relationship, one has to make love exist naturally by doing the right things to your partner, the things that will recapture the inner feelings of love and affection as you did in the start of the relationship.
Only if and when all has been tried and failed to work that one should order for my love spells that actually work, and indeed this will be the last nail in the coffin to fix your troubled relationship permanently.

2024.05.13 19:11 Spare_Friendship_807 What is the best pressure cooker for my needs?

Hello! I'm new to the thread and new to pressure cooking. I'm looking into machines and there are so many out there. The Duo Pro and Duo Plus seem to have the best paid advertising slots in the business, I come across them slot.
My needs: Location - USA Budget - under $200 Ideal total meal cook time - ~30 min Purpose - simple weekday meals in a busy schedule without sacrificing nutrition. Want to cook - broths, veggie dishes, soups, chillies, barbacoas, stew meat, rice dishes.
My partner and I have chaotic schedules, leave the home before 6am and don't get back until 9-11 pm most nights. We LOVE to cook, but don't have time during the week. But we still need budget friendly, nutritious, homemade food. Time really is of the essence as we may have 30 minutes we are willing to spend making tomorrow's food before we need to pass out for the night. We don't mind doing a lot of food prep 1-2 days a week so things are ready to throw into a cooker at night. We would generally make food and have it ready in Tupperware for the next day. Morning prep time is not going to happen.
Is a PK really faster? I keep hearing about time it takes to come to pressure and depressurizing, etc. I'm really looking for a quick meal maker for the little time we do have.
I've heard there are models that come to pressure faster than the instant pot, but never heard someone say which ones. So I don't know if that's true.
Any suggestions?

2024.05.13 17:47 CheshireSaysHi Recommendations for a 2-burner induction cooker?

Hi, I'm looking for a good 2-burner induction cooker for my elderly parents. Something sturdy and user friendly. I've see some recos online like Imarflex and Philips but I'm not sure Philips has a 2-burner model and I've also seen negative feedback for Imarflex.

2024.05.13 16:16 ___HeyGFY___ The one about my Uncle Paul

My Uncle Paul was a pig farmer for many years. He supplied a lot of the restaurants in the area around his farm with pork products, including different types of homemade sausages. He loved telling jokes while visiting his customers, so everyone called him Ham. As a kid, I went with him on a lot of deliveries, and when I was old enough he hired me as a part-time driver.
One of the restaurants was frequented by actor Mike Epps. He had a mentorship program attended by some of the at-risk high school kids in town, and he would treat them to a meal there every Wednesday night. Over the years, Mike built a decent relationship with the chef, who could often predict what the kids would order.
Uncle Ham was also well-known for his Christmas light display, which grew more elaborate every year. When he started out, people could easily walk the entire length, but it got so large that people had to drive through in order to be able to see it all.
He bought a shell of an old covered wagon, and I helped him restore it so he could hook up a small tractor and use it as a hayride. It was pretty popular with young couples with small children who wanted to make sure the whole family could see as much of the display as possible.
His pride and joy was a life-size North Pole scene. It looks like something out of a high-end department store, with Santa on a throne and a beautiful female elf as his assistant. It was a great photo opportunity for those same young couples. Some of the kids would still tell Santa what they wanted, even if they were old enough to know this one wasn't capable of responding.
A few years ago, Uncle Ham put up surveillance cameras along certain parts of the route. He had received complaints about people smoking and littering, and he wanted to protect the display and the people who came to enjoy it.
As it turned out, his timing was fortunate. Barely a week after he opened the display to the public, he got an alert. As he reviewed the footage, he recognized three boys in Mike's program who had vandalized the Santa display. They ripped his suit to shreds and pulled off his beard. They broke pieces off the throne and covered the rest with graffiti. And, worst of all, they pulled the beautiful elf down and were performing sexual acts with it.
Uncle Paul was so disturbed by their actions that he shut down the display for the season. He knew he needed to focus on cleaning everything up and repairing the damage the trio had done. He did have help around the farm, but he had to put the food processing and delivery on hold.
I did my best to try to help out, but I have no idea how to properly butcher a pig. The only thing I could do was follow his recipes for the different types of sausage, and try to prioritize his customers so I could fairly deliver what was available.
A couple weeks went by and I was making a delivery to the restaurant where Mike would treat the kids in the program. I apologized to the chef as I brought in an order a fraction of the size he was used to seeing. He asked me what happened and I said, "Chef, three Epps teens did Uncle Ham's elf."

50. Put a flag on my bicycle.
Someone at work was talking about doing this and I wasn't sure because my dad died at 50 unexpectedly and so did his father so I've always been quite scared of reaching that number. Nevertheless, I'm going to face the big number with different things I want to do to make it less scarier. I think some of the things are silly, but I tried to make most of the things easily attainable. Bold means I've already done them.

Disclaimers: I am not a physician, influencer, or paid content creator. I am not affiliated with WW. I am semi-retired from the healthcare field with multiple college degrees. These opinions are my own based on social media content. I wish no harm to Kylea or Joe Gomez.
☎️ If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, please call or text 988 for assistance.
📢 To the perfectionists, Kylea has a habit of heavily editing posts 3+ times and archiving/hiding and deleting posts. I do not have a burner account for Facebook and have not viewed every comment made. She does not post receipts and is secretive about her purchases.
The tagline of Kylea G Weight loss Journey is, "I changed my life with prayer and a playlist of songs. No surgery, no meds. Just Jesus."

🤔 Final Thoughts 🤔
Kylea showed her narcissistic greed posting triggering content all week without disclaimers or warnings in clear violation of Meta policy on explicit content and tragedy & conflict. If that is not enough to demonetize and deplatform her, her obvious signs of disordered eating should. 2024.05.12 19:56 kingcong95 Hell's Kitchen Thailand Episode 14

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNspIlqlJcc&ab_channel=Hell%27sKitchenThailand
Chef Willment asked the final four why they felt they deserved to win Hell's Kitchen and who they would like to compete against in the finale. Chef Ian announced that the final four would partake in a grueling series of challenges that will test their creativity, technique, and budget management. Only the top two finishers could advance to the finals.
Challenge 1: Each chef was given a sirloin, which they had 25 minutes to trim the fat, cut into 12 evenly sized steaks, and cook to a certain temperature (4 medium rare judged by Pom, 4 medium judged by Willment, 4 well done judged by Ian). The chefs would enter the kitchen staggered 10 minutes at a time, receiving 1 point for each steak cooked properly. In this round, Jib (burnt on the outside but undercooked inside due to her pan being way too hot) and Kerr (mostly undercooked with several not trimmed thoroughly) scored 2 each, Bill 6, and Lookchan (overcooked and untrimmed) merely 1.
Challenge 2: After a short break, the semifinalists received their next challenge. Pig's tail costs only 55 THB ($1.50) per kg, and they have to use it to create a restaurant quality dish, seasoning with either oregano, smoked paprika, or garlic salt. Jib had another mishap when her pressure cooker overheated, resulting in a severely undercooked dish as she had to get it off the heat, scoring only 1. The other three presented good to acceptable dishes with 9 for Kerr (it would have been a perfect 12 had Willment not found a hair in his dish), 7 for Bill, and 5 for Lookchan. At this point, the cumulative tally was Bill 13, Kerr 11, Lookchan 6, Jib 3.
Challenge 3: The final challenge is to create an elevated sea crab dish. Jib had the best dish of the day scoring 10 but it wasn't enough to overcome her other two dreadful performances. Bill's 8 points secured him a spot as the first finalist, but Lookchan didn't clean the crab thoroughly for her crab cake, scoring only 4 which eliminated her. Kerr needed only 3 points to advance over Jib's 13, and her crab ceviche was panned for sloppy presentation and the lack of cohesion between various components. However, all four head chefs gave Kerr a point each, which was enough to send her to the finals.
Chef Willment offered his praises to Jib and Lookchan for their hard work throughout the competition, then summoned the rest of the brigade members for Bill and Kerr's final service. Everyone who placed 12th or higher was eligible to return. The good news for the viewers is that Amm was not available due to a prior commitment overseas, so Phrikped took her place.
The next and final episode will begin with Bill and Kerr choosing their teams. Lookchan and Jib did not receive the 🥼🪝🖼️🔥 sequence, and the head chefs did not comment on their eliminations.

2024.05.12 12:48 Little-Reason-7508 100% Total game changer for over-salted sauce/soup/stew. I'll never use potatoes again!

TLDR (Haiku):
Sauce was too salty Tasted like a cup of sweat Spuds couldn't fix it
But lasagna did Added beef stock at the end The sauce now? Perfect!
---‐--‐-----
So i made some homemade tomato sauce earler, and it came out spiced/flavored exactly the way i like it- except it was far too salty. Like a "scrap it and redo" kind of salty. Very frustrated, I Almost did just toss it. That would've been a mistake.
Then I remembered reading I could slice up a potato and put it in and it will absob the excess salt. BUT-- I also remembered that I had tried that and not only did it not soak up the excess salt, but the little bit it did absorb took almost an hour, and it didn't make any difference whatsoever. It wss still salty enough to be rendered inedible. [Sliced potato = FAIL]
Now I didn't want to throw it all away because it was REALLY that good. Except for the salt. Then it hit me! And now i don't think I'll ever use any other method to fix an over-salting.
As the sauce was still fairly hot, I fired up the burner again to get it at a boil, and once there, I broke 3 sheets of lasagna noodles into 3 pieces each, and distributed them in the sauce. When they were all submerged, I put the lid on tight, turned off the burner, and left it there for about an hour (I can't remember exactly how long) before i went back to check on the sauce. I wanted to get the noodles as overcooked as possible.
Well, I opened the lid and sure enough the noodles were limp and flaccid and bloated. So I took 'em out and put them on a plate, and stirred up the big pot of sauce. I then tasted one of the noodles just out of curiosity. Ew. It was so offensively salty that it almost felt like a burning sensation, though the noodles were quite cooled by this point. The noodle tasted awful!
I stirred the sauce again, rinsed with water to get rid of the salty taste still overwhelming my mouth, and sanpled the sauce.
Holy crap what a difference! Not only had the noodles absorbed a lion's share of the salt, but the other flavors and such were unaffected, keeping the 'perfect' flavor that I'd wanted to save in the first place! I was floored. And very pleasantly surprised.
Of course, some liquid got soaked up too, but adding 1/3 cup of stock (low sodium beef stock in this case) brought it back to proper consistency with no noticeable taste changes.
I tried another piece of the lasagna noodles, and again was - ahem- assalted by the overpowering taste. So they got an express flight to the trash.
But honest to god the sauce was amazing.
I think i got lucky with the amounts of noodles I used, but in future, whether it's aauce or soup or stew or any brothy dish, i don't think I'll use any other method to save an over-salting.
Equipment: I used a 5-quart pressure cooker, but only used it 'at pressure ' for 5-6 minutes at the very end. Before that I kept it at a low boil just above a simmer, while i was adding the different ingredients.
This "hack" really works awesome if you add a crazy amount of salt without realizing it.
Hopefully this will help save you from a dinner disaster and save your meal at some point!

2024.05.11 19:01 justabirdmindy Ambitious 2 week trip report: Krabi, Khao Sok, Koh Samui, Pai, Chiang Mai, Bangkok

About Us

We are a North American couple in our late twenties - we love nature, food, and sightseeing. We are not a fan of partying or relaxing (haha), and we have limited vacation time so this trip was perfect for us. However we know that most people will find this trip too hectic/busy with too much travel time - different strokes for different folks! Hopefully this is still helpful.
We travelled for 14 days from late April to early May 2024.

Krabi

Day 0: Flight from Bangkok to Krabi at night, so just hit Ao Nang Landmark beach and the night market. Night market is nice but quite small. The Ao Nang Landmark beach was the most gorgeous 360 view of the sunset I’ve ever seen. Don’t be confused with the proper Ao Nang beach (10 min walk), which imo isn’t anywhere as nice for sunset views. But the proper Ao Nang Beach has free nighttime fire shows, which was fun to see.
Beware the multiple jellyfish at Ao Nang beach and in general while snorkelling in the Andaman coast. I wish I had brought a travel container filled with vinegar as a precaution.
Day 1: Day trip to Phi Phi Islands (highly recommend) with the One Asia corporation - they were excellent, well-organized with lots of free water bottles, juice and fruits. They also offered snorkels that had disposable personal mouthpieces (which I didn’t even consider). They said they were the only company that offered the disposable mouth pieces, which I can’t verify but I believe it.
In the evening, we did a hike up to Tiger Cave temple for the most gorgeous sunset. New rule is last entry is 5:30 pm so plan accordingly. It is 1260 steps and very hot/difficult but ACTUALLY WORTH IT, especially for sunset. You’ll also see monkeys! Take breaks and drink water. We took 40 minutes to go up, around 20 to go down. Modest clothes recommended but knee length is okay.
Day 2: Day trip to Hong Island, including kayaking through mangroves. Kayaking was definitely worth it but there are limited tours that offer this. Be careful swimming at Hong Island - we had small jellyfish stings that were very very mild, and we didn’t even see the small jellyfish although lots of big ones were visible while kayaking. Kayaking felt more safe. Snorkeling at Chewang Beach was pretty meh, quite cloudy.
In terms of longtail versus speedboat, I personally preferred speedboat because the journeys can be quite long otherwise. It’s just as scenic and also less noisy than the old motor of the longtail. Only benefit of longtail is nicer photos at the bow.
If we had more time, we would have gone to Railay Beach (but not interested in rock climbing so less cool). Other options are James Bond Island or Four Islands but to be honest, reviews weren’t as great.
We then took an InDrive to Khao Sok national park. Grab was not reliable as drivers could not see location first and then kept cancelling because far away. This was fine but kind of felt sketchy bc 2 hour drive. Maybe book with official company instead.
Food recommendations (best ones listed first) 1. Family Thaifood & Seafood (tied with Kodam Kitchen): try the fried crab with curry powder (best crab we have ever had at a restaurant), morning glory (excellent vegetable dish, necessary because limited vegetables in diet) and the coconut milkshake in a coconut. 2. Kodam Kitchen. Try the Massaman curry (with roti, which our waitress insisted we try and actually was an amazing combo) and the dried curry dish (Southern specialty) 3. Red Chilli Thai Cuisine - try the green curry (normally don’t like green curry bc less flavorful but this was delicious), blended mango drink, and steamed fish with lime/chilli.

Khao Sok

Day 0: Stayed legit just for sleep at the Khao Sok Green Valley Resort. Clean with no issues, very basic but just needed for sleeping
Day 1: Early morning pickup with Smiley Lakehouse Tour for a 2 day 1 night overnight tour at Chewong Lake on a lakehouse bungalow in the Khao Sok national park. The boat ride there is incredibly scenic and enjoyable.
We spent the afternoon kayaking and swimming in front of our lake house. It was really really ridiculously hot, just felt terrible because no AC anywhere. Thankfully cooled down at nighttime for sleeping - only fan-cooled room but still was okay once sun came down. The afternoon was absolutely brutal though. In evening, went on a boat safari that was fun.
Day 2: Early morning boat safari followed by a jungle trek + Nam Taloo cave tour, only available in dry season. The jungle trek was meh for views tbh, but the cave was spectacular with lots of bats and flowing water. Completely unique experience. You do have to swim around 5 m in flowing water that is over your head, so beware if you cannot swim.
Overall, Smiley was an excellent operation - just super super hot. Better food than other tours, clean rooms (we paid for upgrade). I’d still overall recommend it because overall the cave trek was great, but otherwise I think a day trip suffices if you’re in the middle of hot season. I also didn’t like how they don’t count off where you are/keep track of you, even in the cave portion, so you needed to be more aware and alert yourself.
We then took a van to Donsak Pier and headed to Koh Samui.

Koh Samui

Day 1: Relaxing day, just explored the area and beaches. Choengmon Beach is quiet, clean and nice for swimming. Then we explored the mall/outdoor market area of Central Samui - nice respite for AC and walkable to the Chewang Beach, which is more party vibes but also fun (worse for swimming but still ok). In the evening, went to the Four Seasons restaurant Koh Thai for a sunset view and dinner (see below) and then Fisherman Village night market for exploring.
Day 2: Day trip to Angthong National Marine Park. We did the big boat which was cheaper but less time at the park, which we were fine with. Then CocoTam for one of their nightly fire shows on the beach, and explored Fisherman Village for dinner.
If we had more time, we might have considered Koh Phanghan or Koh Tao for snorkelling. We also debated Koh Matsum (pig island) but didn’t seem worth it for a full tour + hard to self-arrange affordable transport.
Food recommendations: 1. Ban Thai - cute place where a grandma makes all the food. Recommend the Tom Yum soup and chicken pad gra prow. Pad Thai was mid but shrimp quality was excellent 2. Coconut Beach Bowls - if you’re a smoothie bowl aficionado, otherwise pass 3. Vegan Khunnay: really cute AYCE vegan buffet for only 120 bhat ($3 USD), right next to Chaweng Beach. Very authentic Thai food cooked by one grandma, cute experience for a snack even. 4. CocoNam: moreso for the vibe for their nightly fire shows on the beach. Go early to avoid lines and make sure you get a seat. The pad Thai here was surprisingly the best pad Thai I had in the south, delicious and most flavorful. 5. Koh Thai - fancy fancy fancy, located in the Four Seasons resort. It’s featured by Michelin Bib and is a location for White Lotus S3. Book for sunset for gorgeous views, it’s a bit of an experience to get there because you take a buggy up the hillside. Very luxurious feeling. Food was ACTUALLY excellent and tasted like a chef made it, if that makes sense. Delicious ingredients. We recommend the laab tuna, paad kapi goong moo sub, and coconut duo. The boneless lime fish was also good but didn’t taste too different than a normal restaurant. Go to BOTH bathrooms, including the one that is “al fresco” haha for the full experience. Rooms at the Four Seasons go over $1200 USD a night - our meal with two bottles of fancy water (unavoidable), one starter, two mains and a dessert was $100 USD including tax and service charge.

Overnight Trip to Pai

Day 0.5: Flight to Chiang Mai then private taxi ($45 CAD) to Pai for 2.5 h because bus ran out of tickets. Pai Canyon for sunset (gorgeous) and explored Pai Walking Street and night market.
Day 1: Relaxing brunch then Nam Lod Cave - so freaking cool, huge cave that you float in a bamboo raft through. Then took back to Chiang Mai! We took the bus - it’s around 5 bucks PP, 4 hours.
If we had more time (and the weather was less hot), we would have done Sai Ngam Hotsprings. We weren’t too interested in the White Buddha, Bamboo bridge, or strawberry cafe etc - although we did see them from afar during our tour. Mostly just here for vibes, it’s cute.
There are NO GRABS or taxis here, it’s quite remote. But you don’t need to ride a motorbike - you just show up and do tours (don’t need to book in advance, does not show up online but easy to find).
Food recommendations: 1. Nam’s Kitchen 2. Charlie & Iek 3. Lemon Thyme Cafe for drinks 4. Nice Mangos - try the ice cream/mango sticky rice combo, legit best dessert

Chiang Mai

Day 0: Got rained out so ate dinner and slept!
Day 1: Group tour to Don Inthanon Park with a hike and visit to an indigenous Thai village - really recommend. Great way to beat the heat because the summit is 15 degrees cooler than the city, plus informative to learn about local culture.
At night, we did the 6ixcret drag show - THE BEST NIGHT ACTIVITY WE DID IN THAILAND. SOOOO fun creative, and professionally done, not sketchy at all. Insane SFX and choreography. It’s free but need to buy two drinks PP (normal prices), definitely worth. Don’t need to book in advance, just show up right before 9:30 pm. The drag show is also next to Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, so very convenient for exploring. Unfortunately the main night markets are only open Sat/Sunday but Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is open every night.
Day 2: Day trip to Elephant Nature Park! Sells out, so need to book weeks in advance. It’s the most legit and largest OG elephant sanctuary, highly ethical and professional. The Walking with Elephants tour was incredible. Then we visited Wat Chedi Luang (lovely temple in city centre but tbh can skip, only visited bc we had free time) before taking a Grab to Monk trail/Doi Suthep temple for nighttime temple and city views. It is absolutely gorgeous and unique to do at night. We ended the night by exploring more street food and night market.
Day 3: Half Day cooking class at Grandma’s Kitchen, included market and farm tour. Very interesting and enjoyable activity, we learned a lot. We tried durian at the market because it was in season, I was personally a huge fan. For the cooking class, you should request the air conditioned room in advance because there is only one. We then did a trip to Sticky Waterfalls - we negotiated a trip again on InDrive. This was one of the most unique nature experiences we have ever done and super fun. We ended our evening by exploring One Nimman shopping area/neighborhood, which was lovely and romantic. Then flew to BKK!
Food recommendations: 1. Roti Pa Day: delicious Michelin guide street food 2. Maadae Slow Fish Kitchen: SO GOOD. Also Michelin guide. Try Hor Mok, sardine jerky (trust me, it was the number one dish we tried + it’s deliciously warm), and pomelo fish salad plus their homemade sodas. 3. Chum North Kitchen: different Northern-style dishes 4. Khao Soi Masee: Michelin guide again, best Khao Soi ever in a very simple cute place. Very flavourful. 5. Jia Tong Heng: Dim sum located conveniently in One Nimman area, previously Michelin guide then demoted. Went for just snacks. Can skip but tbh the salted egg custard bun was celestial. Go just for that if you want.

Bangkok

Day 1: Temple hopping of Wat Arun, Wat Pho then Grand Palace. Your enjoyability of this depends on how much you like temples. Pro tip is to bring socks for when the sun scorches the titles and you can’t wear shoes. Initially we wanted to skip Wat Pho but I’m glad we went because the Reclining Buddha is excellent in person, surpassed our expectations and better than photographs. In the evening, we visited Jodds Fair (very cute vibe for a market) and closed our night with dinner at a Michelin star restaurant.
Day 2: Chatuchat Weekend Market then lunch at Kua Kling for delicious Sourhern food. ICONSiam afterwards - such a fancy yet chaotic “Disneyworld” of a mall, complete with huge market and street food scene. Then ended with exploring Yaowarat Road then Khao San Road for lots of street food and vibes. Ended our night at the Big C for souvenirs.
Day 3: Breakfast then flew out! Sad to leave :)
Food recommendations: 1. Kor Panich - best mango sticky rice hands down, deserving of its Michelin recommendation, and near temples 2. Natthapon Ice Cream (right next to Kor Panich) - cute cozy spot, recommend black sesame and coconut. The peanuts were very polarizing. 3. Nawa: newly awarded 1 Michelin star, very fun experience even for people who aren’t very highbrow like us. Interesting to learn about Thai ingredients and unique delicious dishes. <5k bhat per person. 4. Kua Kling Pad Sod - try the Kua kling and stink bean 5. Guay Jub Ouan Pochana in Yaowarat
Overrated/meh but glad we tried it: 1. Thipsamai pad thai 2. Yaowarat toasted buns 3. Pa Tong Go Savoey

General Tips:

Be careful of the carry-on luggage weights with domestic flights - they only allow 7 kg which is abnormally minuscule.
The weather played a massive role in picking our itinerary. Beware of burning season in Chiang Mai (we went for the tail end) and rainy seasons. Not every hotel has AC so make sure you prioritize that.
One downside of the tours is that the food is meh on them, just FYI. Even if a tour advertises “water bottles provided”, it can be just ONE for a whole day so bring your own emergency water.
Grab was surprisingly annoying to find in Bangkok, FYI.

Random things to pack:

2024.05.10 18:21 OpportunityBox The Best Dining on Cape Cod - 2024 Update

Asking for suggestions seems to be a common theme on this sub-reddit, so I’ve updated my list of the best dining restaurants on the Cape for 2024.
This is absolutely one subjective opinion, but I like to think it's at least a qualified opinion. Having lived on the Cape for 20+ years, worked in the industry in the past, and dined out around the world for business/pleasure, I have a decent sense of what a stellar restaurant experience should be like.
I've been lucky enough to dine at a number of Michelin Star ranked establishments over the years while traveling. While none on the Cape is going to be earning that honor (especially since it’s only given in a few major cities) I’ve experienced what great can be like enough times to recognize the glimmer of it here at home. With each of these I'm still dreaming about the meal days later and want to go back as soon as possible.

The Best Dining On Cape:

  1. Ceraldi (Wellfleet) $$$$
  2. Water Street Kitchen (Woods Hole) $$$
  3. Twenty Eight Atlantic (Harwich) $$$$ - Kid Friendly
  4. The Pheasant (Dennis) $$$ - Kid Friendly
  5. La Tacodilla (Dennis) $ - Kid Friendly
  6. Ten Yen (Orleans) $$$
These are the only places that make the cut here, as nowhere else I’ve been to quite rises to this amazing level these provide. Yes, the Cape is a big place, but each of these is well worth the drive from Falmouth or P-town.
Changes for 2024:
Coincidentally, there is something for every budget. Ceraldi deserves the top spot but is a tough reservation to get and expensive with their fixed menu. They also added a delightfully inventive no reservations taken first come communal table menu that was fabulous, and they’re amazing about allergies and accommodating most food restrictions. The others don't have to break the special occasion bank if you pick the right options.
At Ten Yen you can stay under $50 and get a couple of world class sushi rolls and a glass of sake or spend over $200 eating an amazing sushi meal with drinks.
La Tacodilla is the real deal and has 2 for $6 street tacos on Taco Tuesday, as long as you don’t mind waiting an hour+ when they are busy.

Runners Up:

If you can’t get a reservation at the above, there are other very good restaurants around the Cape that are well worth the visit if they have availability. These are all pricey though, so certainly shoot for the ones above first when possible. Note, these are just in alphabetical order.

Honorable Mentions:

I didn't want to leave these next ones out, as they are consistent standards when friends drop in for a visit and want to eat out. Most of these don’t take reservations and you have a good chance of getting a table eventually, especially for lunch or if you are willing to arrive early for dinner:

My Rating Scale:

  1. Food: starts with food that is over the top great and changes variety for repeat visits.
  2. Service: has to be consistently excellent.
  3. Location/Scene: Does it set the terroir for the food, is it nice to be there, do they have a good view, do they maximize the space they have, things like parking, bathroom vibe, etc. For example, La Tacodilla is just a little window in a little house with a fake turf seating area right on 28, but it’s hands down the best street food on the Cape and the location/scene is super appropriate for the food. Cuvee is the opposite, with super high end food but served in a cramped under ventilated room with no outside view, dirt parking lot, and no valet parking.
  4. Consistency & Variety: must hold up to greatness over multiple visits. Do they have vegetarian and vegan options? Does the menu or specials change regularly?
  5. Cocktails/Wine/Drinks: extra points for being creative and delicious. The head bartenders at Water Street Kitchen take things to another level. Ceraldi’s wine pairings are great, and their homemade soft drink pairing is always inspired for those who don’t drink alcohol. Having an expansive & pricy wine list is less appealing to me than a creative cocktail menu with the bar skill to elevate the craft.
  6. Value: how much of the above 5 items do you get per dollar spent.
I keep a spreadsheet with 1-10 rankings for each of these categories for all the top restaurants (and some of the bottom ones as calibration). Here are examples of my rating scale:
Water Street Kitchen:
La Tacodilla:
Cuvee:

List To Try Based On Recommendations:

Here are some others I’ve heard good things about but have not had the chance to eat at yet, I’m sure some of them belong on the lists above. I managed to try ~10 places in the offseason and shrink the previous recommendations list. Falmouth is overrepresented here as I live mid-cape and gravitate to Water Street Kitchen repeatedly when headed to Falmouth, it’s that good!
I’ve starred* the ones we're trying to hit next.

All The Rest

Below are all the other (non major chain) Cape restaurants I’ve eaten at in the past ~10 years in no particular order, although I’m sure I’ve missed a couple.
Most of these are fine spots, just not close to the caliber of top spots above. For example, Kream n Kone in Dennis is our go to fried food spot, but I wouldn’t go out of the way vs whatever fried seafood spot is closest to you. Some of these I haven’t gone back to in years with good reason. I would love to hear opinions on any that have improved and are worth returning to!
Hope this list helps some locals and tourists alike have an amazing meal!
Edit #1: Removed Gina's By the Sea, Brine, C-Salt, and Terra Luna as closed, added Spinnaker's and Flying Bridge to the list to try next.
Edit #2: Starred Leonessa and Lune to try next based on a recommendation. Fixed Drifters location. Added Bubalas By The Bay, The Lobster Pot, Dan’l Webster Inn, La Cucina Sul Mare, Navillus, The Island Blue Crab, and Hanger B to try.
Edit #3: Moved La Tacodilla up, removed dig about how they stopped serving alcohol based on comments. I hope they reopen Friday's though, that's my go to end of week lunch spot.

2024.05.09 15:35 CountMedical1497 Is it bad manners when there's a person already cooking in the kitchen and the other roommate tries to poke their dishes in the cooker in a co-living situation?

So, I'm living in a co-living apartment, there's an Indian lady in the master bedroom, when I'm already occupied in the kitchen doing preperations to cook, she just barges in and pokes her dishes in the cooker. It's a 3 burner small cooker and it's quite difficult to cook multiple dishes. When I addressed this to her she yelled at me, and forcefully does it again n again. And gaslights me saying that's how it is when co-living. So, I basically I have to wait, and it's disturbing my peace while cooking. I just want to know if that's how it is normally in SG or if I'm wrong to address it. Isn't it like first come first go situation?
Your opinions would be helpful.
Thanks.

2024.05.08 18:51 sick_prada97 Anyone have better slow cooking ideas/recipes? Also, any general advice on cooking?

I'll just start off by saying I hate cooking and don't really want to invest extra time in being a great cook or even half-great like a Joshua Weissman/Gordon Ramsey level of cook. So, while other people say slow cookers are a crutch, I kind of like it because of just dumping everything in and forgetting while I either get back to work (I am WFH for now) or do something else I love doing more. The problem I'm facing though is that a lot of the recipes I see for slow cooker are not that good, and the ones I do find yummy, other people I live with do not agree at all and will not want to try it. Getting to my first actual question, are there any halfway decent ideas for slow cookers? I'm told by other posts that most slow cookers are not good at all and to just throw them away since they can't cook meat well.
I'm hoping to get some feedback/general advice on not hating cooking on this next part of my question, so I'll offer a tiny bit of context. I saw a slow cooker chicken tinga recipe that can be used for burritos, tacos, etc but that did not look good for other people, and then they came back and said we should try a red beans and rice recipe, but it called for pigs feet and I don't like pigs feet. I'm told that pigs feet is crucial for that and can't be substituted. I suppose I can just make it for myself, but it feels off that all this food is just for me and not for anyone else.
I'm not real sure what I should be doing at this point. All I'm good for it seems is for making sandwiches, but I can't keep eating sandwiches forever, and I have little patience to slave away on the burners with lots of pans to clean up. I've tried one-pan meals, things that call for rotisserie chicken, etc. They can work out (depends on multiple variables), but it seems I have a problem with taking too long to prep ingredients and they get frustrated with how long I take and end up eating something else or going out to eat.
Now don't get me wrong I can be a not-terrible cook sometimes. There is a fried rice recipe that I saw a YT video of and that calls for baking soda to tenderize the chicken better so it ends up really good. I guess what I'm saying is that I can't keep doing high effort recipes like that because there's a lot of cleanup involved and I don't really like the process of cooking anyway. I just do it for the end result. I don't know how I have gotten by all these years, but somehow I did. If it wasn't so financially irresponsible, I would just want to go out to eat all the time. But the reality is I have to cook to save money and I hate it so much. Any advice?
