2024.05.13 23:40 Objective_Speed497 I really like girly stuff and feel slightly confused but I doubt I’m trans or queer

Hello, I realise that there are a billion threads like these where the poster is very clearly suffering from gender dysphoria and isn’t self-aware but I really doubt it’s my case .
There’s two main things that make me confused. One is this famous thread by NightlingBug https://twitter.com/NightlingBug/status/1215716433210105856 on which I heavily feel almost all of the mentioned things , I suffer from a lot of issues with depression , self image , self grooming with clothes and looks , not being “normal” , immense social anxiety and hyper awareness and while I consider myself very liberal and accepting of all non cis people there’s still some stuff that irks me. The most damning thing in the thread besides the artistic part and how I don’t care to persue any of of my more non artistic passions that I loved , is the writing a female part thing and coming off as disingenuous. I found myself the other day while exploring how the characters progression of one of the female characters in my works would go feeling really excited for her. It was about embracing her sexuality and finally liberating herself from feeling shame and feeling like a sexy woman . Right after that I was doing research for a completely different character I wanted to write that was trans ( huge coincidence but I swear it’s not a cope ) so I could better understand the emotions and dysphoria and I was reading this thread about a person being confused and the commenter suggesting to try to see if they would enjoy imagine themselves as a female with female attributes. I remembered what had happened before when I was imagining and getting into the scenario of my previous character and I tried it myself for shits and giggles . It was both kinda easy to relax and imagine what it would feel like if it was me but there was no sexual excitement or really much of a deep personification with what I was doing but the excitement did send me into a slight panic and worry .
The second thing that puzzles me is maybe my love for hyper femenine things and women might be myself trying to come out. Even my family teases me about liking girly stuff even though most of my interests are traditionally masculine ; I’m into cars , fighter jets , buxom women , working out , extreme metal and generally really like the masculine image , even my sisters comment that I always have an extremely male gaze on things. But I’m also absolutely enamoured by girly stuff , I love flowers , i love sweet smells , I love women acting hyper feminine and kind , it’s hard to describe but anything associated with femininity leaves me in awe . While my brain is constantly telling me that I want all of these things in a woman I can love and not myself , I’m wondering if me being constantly this excited by it and thinking of it is maybe myself wanting it so much as my own or if it’s just to be treated gently like I treat others since I have huge self esteem issues .
I’ve read that a lot of people try to brush off their dysmorphia because they think it will go away so I tried to do the opposite. I read about the test where you look yourself in a mirror naked and see if you enjoy imagining yourself turning into a woman . At first I didn’t try to force it but even when I really tried it did nothing , if anything I was admiring my masculinity and muscles though I’m a bit grossed out about my body hair even if it’s not a lot compared to most men . I even tried to hide my penis and leave only my Pubic hair to make it look like a vagina and it didn’t really do anything except make me slightly excited (not sexually ) that I was looking at a “vagina” but completely not related to the excitement of it being mine or anything and I couldn’t identify with having a vagina .
I have some issues where I love my identity as a man but feel guilty about stuff like sex and aggression and I try focus on romance and benevolence so it might just be a hormonal and psychological thing .
I know that this is a deeply personal issue that only I can solve but if anyone here can give any input based on their experiences I would really appreciate it ( please no hate , I don’t have any bad intent with this post and I realise that the formatting and writing of this post is really dog shit but I’m very sleep deprived right now )

2024.05.13 23:40 Electrical_Swimmer_3 Help Finding Where to Go Next After Graduation

Hi, I had to post this here because I did not have the karma for cscareerquestions
I (28M) will be graduating from WGU with a bachelor's degree in CS at the end of this month or early June and am unsure what the next best steps to meet my loosely defined career goals are. I have an interest in both full stack development and machine learning but the two most important things for me are high salary (160 - 200k in Houston where I live to at least match my GF's income) and the opportunity to learn skills I could later leverage for my own personal projects.
I was part of the University of Houston Chemical Engineering program back when I was normal college aged but dropped out to hang out with my ex and start my own business. I did manage to get an associates from a community college in Mathematics before attending WGU.
My adult work experience is as follows:
The last two are concurrent which means I am currently working about 80 hours a week but working from home three days a week helps a lot as my job is chill and I can get chores done. The business started before the restaurant and extended into the UPS years. After it ended I decided to go back to school and get into the IT field.
So....
What should I be doing and learning to get to this salary and develop a useful skillset along the way? I don't really care what I have to do to get there or what the job entails as long as I can stay local to Houston. My enjoyment comes from my hobbies (including self-business stuff) outside of work which I need money to support and grow.
My current plan after I gradate is put out applications like crazy so I can start working only one job while also finishing the Odin project, Full Stack Open course, grinding Leetcode and meeting with a tutor I found on Fiver who is very knowledgeable with the Spring framework which is what I used for most of my degree and have a good foundation for. I'm also considering going back and diving deeper into statistics but I'm open to all good ideas. I also have a friend with a start up who could use some tech help and I'm thinking about joining that also.
Thank you

Chapter 1

Concept art for
Sybil
Of Men and Ghost Ships, Book 1: Chapter 16
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As he made the Captain's case, Carter was staring down his...crew, for lack of a better term. "Listen, I'm not big on allowing some random people on our ship either, but according to the Captain of their vessel, this guy might not last until rescue gets here. You can quickly treat him while we're cannibalizing that pirate vessel, and then we'll put them back in their pod and be on our way. In return, they're offering us all the munitions on the ship they have a claim on. It's not a bad deal."
The vixen seemed to have already made up her mind. No surprises there. "Absolutely not! We don't owe these people a thing! They're already lucky you're letting them keep what you are!"
The girl adjusted her glasses. "I don't see any particular benefit to us in this either. What few munitions are left on that ship aren't likely in any condition to be of use to us unless we take them apart and put them back together again, costing us almost as much time and energy as just going out and finding more elsewhere. We've got more than enough resources from that nearly whole vessel at our disposal for the time being. It is an unnecessary risk with little payoff."
So, this time, it came down to the pirate. All three turned to him as he considered the options. "Well, I don't know about owning anyone anything or how well we'll get paid, but from the sounds of things, this lad got injured fighting against overwhelming numbers in an all-hope-is-lost kinda situation and managed to get not only himself but his companions out alive! That kind of heave-ho attitude deserves to be rewarded! Sides, the only one who'll really be at risk is our Captain. It's not like they can do anything to the ship if we don't let them!"
Carter was starting to suspect the supposed pirate was more of a softy than he let on but wasn't about to say anything to that effect. Instead, he just shook his head. "Even split, so I guess I get to use my tiebreaker authority to make the call again. Contact Captain Dimitri and let him know we'll be taking the injured man on board just long enough to stabilize him, but no one can take any weapons off the pod with them. If we see so much as a knife, we'll space the lot of them."
-
As Alen sat up, he noticed he was having trouble focusing. Vanessa was speaking with someone on their console. It might have been the Captain, but he wasn't sure. "Are you sure we can trust them? This is taking a considerable risk..."
The response didn't sound as confident as he usually did. "Honestly, no, I'm not, and from what I remember of this ship, it doesn't exactly have the best of reputations. However, they could have easily waltzed in here, killed us, ignored us, and/or taken everything they wanted. Instead, they took the time to say hi and even bothered with negotiations. Also, judging by what we just saw, they aren't any more friendly toward pirates than we are, so that's a mark in their favor. If the boy was in better condition, I'd say he could just ride it out, but you mentioned he's not doing very well, so this is his only option. Besides, it's not like the government would let us keep many of the munitions on board that ship. He's got no choice, and it's not really costing us anything, might as well."
Vanessa didn't seem particularly appeased, but she didn't argue other than to mutter low enough that the Captain probably couldn't hear her. "It might cost a couple of us something..."
At this point, Alen was reasonably sure they were talking about him. However, the world wouldn't stop spinning long enough for him to consider his own thoughts on the subject. Instead, he just closed his eyes and hoped things would work out for the best.
-
Carter watched from overhead as the pod docked in the ship's bay. It seemed so small compared to the cavernous room, but he knew appearances could be deceptive. For instance, he wasn't exactly prepared to put up much of a fight himself, as his handgun was still mostly empty, but he wasn't about to let them know that.
The Captain had warned him there were not one, but two aliens aboard the pod and that they were pretty intimidating to look at. Carter had to admit that it made him curious. Everyone knew about the Vitexrā by now; they'd made quite the galactic splash a couple hundred years ago, but he'd never heard anything about a second species being discovered and wondered where the hell this other guy had come from or even what he looked like.
The girl was beside him as usual. "We've begun cannibalizing the pirate ship. The process will take several hours, though we're prioritizing more important components first in case we're interrupted."
Carter nodded. "Sounds good."
As he watched their guests disembark the ship, Carter couldn't help but frown. The big alien he's been warned about looked like he could easily cause more than his fair share of trouble. Nodding in their direction, he asked the girl, "Any weapons you can scan on them? And how about the kid? Is he really injured?"
The girl shook her head. "No weapons, although those two are pretty much weapons in and of themselves. Even if you had a full magazine, I'm not sure I'd put any money on you in a fight. Luckily, now that we have a captain, you won't be alone. We have some ancillaries ready to escort our guests to and from the med bay. As for the injured party, he seems legitimately in trouble, and the wounds are from before we showed up."
With a sigh, Carter turned away from the observation screen. "Alright. Sounds like we might as well get down there and say hi."
-
Carter conceptually knew how large the alien he was greeting was, but when he first opened the door, he had to fight the urge to take a defensive step back. Standing in front of him was some sort of anthropomorphic, nearly eight-foot-tall cat lizard, which gave off a vaguely Viking aura as it grinned down at the much smaller human.
When it spoke, Carter noticed the alien had a thick accent, thick enough to make him somewhat hard to understand, even though he seemed to be speaking Basic. "You must be the Captain! Good to meet ya!" Then, he turned to the other alien, the Vitexrā, who would have been just as intimidating despite her smaller size if Carter hadn't already had some idea what to expect. "See? I told ya they wouldn't bother inviting us on just to space us!"
The alien gave Carter a grin he suspected was meant to be more friendly than intimidating, but it failed on that account. Still, with the two large robotic frames at Carter's back, he knew that if push came to shove, he stood a reasonable chance of getting out of this alive. "Yeah, well, I'm not in the habit of spacing people who just need some help. I'm Captain Carter, by the way, and so long as you don't make any trouble, you won't get any from us. With that said, welcome aboard the Sybil."
Carter wasn't exactly a medical expert, but he'd been around the injured enough to see that the human the two aliens were escorting was in rough shape. Blood loss and shock, at the very least, probably caused by some sort of traumatic injury. Hopefully, the out-of-date medical facility on this ship would be up to the task, though Carter guessed the odds were more fifty-fifty.
The large alien's grin somehow grew broader and more toothy. "Call me Erik. This is Vanessa and Alen. Any help you can offer would be welcome!"
Carter refrained from commenting on how weird it was to hear the alien use such a standard human name, and instead simply nodded. "Alright, then follow me."
With that, Carter turned and led the way to the med bay, with the two robotic frames walking between him and their guests. He was reasonably sure he remembered the way from here, and if not, Sybil could say something. He had to fight the urge to turn and get another look at the two aliens, though.
As he finally approached the door he'd been looking for, Carter triggered the lights and pointed to the table. "Alright, put him there, and Sybil will see if she can't fix him up. I have to warn you, though, our facility isn't the most up-to-date, and given his condition, I'd say his odds are pretty even at this point."
As the large cat/lizard put the human down, the Vitexrā looked around as if searching for something before she spoke up, surprising Carter with her unexpected English accent. "Are there no medical personnel around?"
Carter was so surprised by the accent that he hesitated answering just long enough for the vixen to pop into existence and answer for him. "As if I need some wasteful organic assistance to do my job. And not to contradict my Captain, but I'd say this boy has a more than seventy-three percent survival chance. Now, if you will all please leave the room and let me do my job, I'll see if I can't save this human despite your best efforts!"
Carter sort of wanted to say something about her bedside manner but decided to keep his mouth shut as it served no purpose at this point. Besides, as the various metallic articulated arms around the table came to life, he decided he didn't want to see what the vixen considered medical assistance and decided to do as she'd commanded and leave the room.
However, the Vitexrā, Vanessa, he reminded himself, spoke up. "I am able to not release biologically active micro lifeforms when I so desire. May I remain to observe your treatment of the boy?"
As the vixen seemed to consider for a moment, Carter prepared himself for the usual belittlement, but surprisingly, she nodded. "Very well, but please observe from the corner. It would be best if you did not get in my way."
Vanessa nodded. "That is agreeable."
Carter looked back and forth between them, then decided it wasn't worth getting involved. Instead, he led the way out the door, and Erik followed. "Well, if you like, I can show you our mess hall while we wait, though I have to warn you, the food options are somewhat limited... Can you even eat human food?"
Erik grinned, making Carter wonder if the alien had another expression, and nodded. "Yup, for the most part! Don't worry. I can smell if you've got anything troublesome in there, but for the most part, if you can eat it, I can eat it. Don't waste your time on anything sweet, though; I apparently can't taste sweet!"
Carter raised an eyebrow, wondering if he'd heard that right or if it was just the accent. Then,m after a moment's hesitation, he responded. "Well, how do you feel about mint flavors?"

2024.05.13 23:39 Eyesalwaysopened Used Car Report: Buying Around The Neighborhood

Hi all, hey all.
I’m back. With my report that I promised.
And lol, was it a shit storm, and honestly? I’m extremely disappointed. It’s not that I didn’t expect it, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this bad.
So a quick rundown;
The used car market is a hit/miss game. That’s part of the fun, and for many, I’ll still recommend a used car. Better to own then to have your car towed away by the repo guys, or need to limit your driving by experience because it’s a lease.
However; the used car market at the moment is overpriced and full of junk.
From my experience checking cars this weekend in the neighborhood/around the surrounding neighborhoods, it’s clear people are passing off shit cars for the price of good ones.
It’s also clear that people were skipping maintaining their cars during the Covid years and are now selling ticking time-bombs.
All in, I checked about 13 cars and out of them, 4 were in pretty good shape but were overpriced. My favorite was a 2006 Honda Accord in great shape, and a wonderful interior inside and out. However, with 350k miles and needing new tires, asking $7000 was ridiculous. This would have been a $1000 car pre-Covid. I was picking some up, alongside some Hyundai Sonatas for $500-$600 pre-Covid to fix for my students. Same cars are demanding $5000+. Absolutely insane.
To keep this already long post from becoming a novel, I’ll give you all a quick rundown on the worse offenders and what to look out for.
(2002 Subaru Forester-Asking $6000)
Low mileage-75,720
Asked the typical questions: Are you the first owner? (No, second owner. Had it for 4 years.)
How much do you driven it? That’s really low!
(You know, it was my daughter’s car, she got a new one, I’m selling it for her. She only drove it to school and home. LIU Post To Woodside. Like 4 times a week for the years she’s owned it.)
Okay cool, so like 30k miles give or take in 4 years. Do you happen to know the mileage you brought the car at? (No, I forgot! Sorry!)
It’s okay, can I have the VIN? I just want to pull up the report and we can work on a price. (Why do you need it? It’s like the social of the car. It’s a great car, no accidents and I need it gone. Why so many questions?)
I need to know the car records and history. Mileage is low, and that’s unusual for this year and make. I’ll be quick and I’ll give you a free copy, no charge.
-at this point, the seller is still hesitant but eventually let me get it. The car mileage was indeed rolled back. When they purchased it, it was at 218k miles. There were also 3 reported accidents. Twice with the original owner and once with them. This was almost a dead giveaway since I could see work was done on the back of the car because the body was slightly misaligned. Wouldn’t you now it, rear end damage reporting in an injury. At this point, seller said I was wasting their time and left angrily saying I was lying.
The lesson to take here is to look at the body of the car. If the car body seems misaligned or the paint seems off, ask about any accidents or body work done.
If the year is older but the mileage seems low, make sure to see if the car had the mileage rolled back.
If the buyer is hesitant about allowing you the have the VIN, this is a huge red flag. This will allow you much more information about the car and its a must if you’re buying.
My next favorite is the $10k cars I see lining Astoria, Woodside, Sunnyside and beyond. I’ve been seeing them floating for years and always avoided them. I tended to avoid the “street dealers.” Wannabe car dealers without a shop, operating out of street parking they occupy endlessly.
I asked to check 3 cars and before I went, I asked to see the titles. I asked if they had clean titles. I was told yes. They were not. All 3 were savaged titles. 2 had mismatched mileage. No point in checking more.
Here, the lesson to learn is if you see different cars with similar signs and prices, it’s a “street dealer” and they’re selling most auction cars, mostly from PA. Avoid, you’ll mostly find lemons and you’ll regret it.
Lastly, let me cover a good car, and one I did end up picking up.
(2010 Honda CR-V -Asking $7500)
Mileage sitting at 220k.
Interior was clean, other than a worn drivers seat. Cloth seating, but easily cleaned with a good steam cleaner.
Extremely well maintained exterior, with a minor bump on the bumper. Looks like they hit a fire hydrant backing up at some point. So common you’ll quickly figure what it looks like haha.
Check engine light on. I appreciate the seller telling me about it immediately. No clue why. Within a few seconds I figured out why: faulty oxygen sensor. Easy fix, and not a big issue.
Tires have life on them and no major rust on the underbody. Amazing for a car up here. Ask about it; car came from Texas. That would explain it.
Only problem here was the price. I know if this guys brings it in to a dealer, he’s getting $2-4k tops, if he’s lucky. Selling privately will get you more money, but I need a fair price.
I explain this to him, point out the cost of the repair at a mechanic, and the value of the car. Offer him $3200 cash; we settle at $3300 and a beer. I’ll take it.
My student walked away with a new car, I’ll fix the sensor myself later this week and everyone leaves happy.
Now, deals like this will happen. But not often. You’ll have to hit the pavement and find them.
However, remember the tips I included here.
Remember not to overpay for a used car.
Do your research and don’t get caught holding a lemon.
Calling your insurance company before any purchase to understand the cost.
Do not get pressured by the seller.
Be respectful as a buyer and walk away if neither side can agree. It happens.
And all the best shopping! Please post any questions here! I’ll try my best to answer them!
I’m a college professor, not a mechanic, but I was lucky enough to spend my weekends in the garbage learning as a teenager. I didn’t have a dad around, and didn’t want to be helpless to my own kids in the future, not knowing how to help them with their cars.

2024.05.13 23:38 VanillaChaiAlmond Should I homeschool my 5 year old?

My daughter started prek 4 in the fall. Its just 3 days a week, 3 hours a day. It was initially a tough transition but after a week she started liking it, making friends and learning a lot.
Fast forward to now, she is so anxious about going to school. She cries all morning about it. She’ll ruminate all night about it telling me how scared she is, how much she’ll miss me, how she doesn’t want to get on the bad behavior chart for crying.
We’ve tried the last 2 weeks to just stick it out and have her go. But it’s only gotten worse and when I pick her up she’s crying and it’s clear she’s been crying most of the time she was there. I’ve talked to her teachers and no good solution has arisen.
I searched other subs for advice on this, most of the responses were “schools not an option just make them go” “drag them in kicking and screaming if you have to”. But that just doesn’t feel appropriate for a 5 year old who is dealing with genuine anxiety. She’s willing and wanting to learn at home. At the end of the day, I just want her to thrive, I don’t care where.
She’s supposed to start kindergarten in fall and is absolutely terrified.
Now my husband and I are seriously debating homeschooling until she’s in first or second grade. We live in an area with a lot of coops. I’m in school for elementary education so I have confidence I can take on her lesson plans.
I think I’m mainly anxious about the judgment from family and friends. Also not pushing my kid enough and “giving in” too much, Idk. Eventually I will have to go back to work so I likely won’t be able to homeschool her past second grade.
I’d love to hear some thoughts on this.
What made you decide to homeschool? How do you deal with judgement of others? How was your kids transition from homeschool to public school?

2024.05.13 23:33 blunger24 Questions from a former/questioning christian

I want to preface this by saying that I never intend to belittle anyone's way of life, or be condescending. I am only here to ask questions that I have gathered from my attendance of a presbyterian church for a majority of my lifetime. Feel free to criticize my approaches, question my knowledge/understanding of the gospel, and cite scripture. For the sake of discussion, please excuse any blasphemy that I may engage in. I don't mean to. I apologize in advance.
Sin
If God is all-powerful, loves us, and feels great sadness when his beloved children fall into sin, why did he allow for sin's existence in the first place? Something I've heard in church is that God wants a world where we, his children, spend all of eternity with him, and everyone is perfect and happy. This could've been the only reality to occur. Why not? And something else I've heard is the reason we fell into sin was because we were given free will. First of all, why are we inclined to like the sinful option more? Did God make us that way? Second of all, God had the power in the beginning to manipulate what reality was. If he is all powerful, he could've made a reality where evil isn't even a concept, and a being with free will would always choose a righteous option. Him and all of his creation would never know pain. Holy perfection and love would be the only concept for all eternity. Why not?
A common answer I get to the previous question is God's master plan. He has everything planned out and we have to trust him. But how did things get so bad that he needed a master plan? Couldn't his master plan have started and ended with happiness? Do we even have free will if everything is going to plan?
Another common answer I get is that there must be darkness for there to be light. And I honestly think that is horrible. All of this evil and pain in humanity, just for the sake of balance? Just so the light can stand out more?
Game
Now, this part I'm afraid will come off as especially condescending and blasphemous. But please hear me out. I apologize if I hurt anyone with anything I say today.
Sometimes I view life according to the Bible as some sort of sick and twisted game. Imagine you create a society simulation on your computer and play "god". You make weak beings that are destined for death if they do not devote their lives to you. And you feel good when they choose you, even though you made them need you. Why were we made not perfect? Why were we made with the ability to fall into evil if that is the opposite of what God wants? Why make fragile beings that need you when you can make perfect beings that can always live among you?
Sometimes it seems like God made a pool, dropped us into it, watched as we preventably poisoned it, took the obedient ones out, and is now a hero. Isn't everything his plan? Why was the pool poisonable?
Wisdom
The most common answer I get is that God has incomprehensible wisdom and we should just trust him. I find it hard to do that because I couldn't trust somebody with so many unknowns about their character.
Is there any other ways I can think about all of this? Is there anything I missed or got wrong? What parts of the Bible/other resources can I read for clarity on things like this?
Thank you for reading this far.

2024.05.13 23:28 kiltedfrog What a difference an O makes.

"I will gladly take care of your Wyrm problem," the Knight in shining armor said to the princess.
The princess narrowed her eyes at him. "It sounds like you're saying Wyrm, not worm."
The Knight Flipped up his helmet visor, "What? Wyrms is Wyrms right? And the ones you need killed are up in the mountains. Earth Wyrms, yea?"
"Worms," The princess over exaggerated the 'o' as she said 'worm', "Yes. Gargantuan Earth Worms, they threaten to destroy the entire mountain range. I need them slain."
"Earth Wyrms! Easily done princess, they can't even fly." The Knight slapped his visor shut, certain he'd be able to handle these Earth Wyrms with ease.
Air Wyrms and Fire Wyrms could both fly and were therefor quite a pain to kill, having to track them relentlessly until they tired was... well tiresome.
Water Wyrms had to be killed underwater most of the time, because mankind had yet to make a fishing boat buoyant enough to fish one from the sea.
With a grin from ear to ear, a simple go there and murder a monster mission in mind, the Knight bowed deeply before excusing himself from the princess' presence.
She turned to her Advisor, "He does know they're Worms and not Wyrms right?"
The old wizard shrugged. "How difficult could it be to kill giant worms?"
The Knight and his squire and their company of friends, set out to the mountains to the north where their quarry was said to be. Among their host was a young wizard who had only barely passed his apprenticeship exams, there was a lady dwarf, who was of course a blacksmith. Her beard was always set with flowers from their next member, her husband the elvish archer. The elf say he's no true archer, merely a hobby, of a thousand years. Their final member was an ex-communicated clergy member from the empire on the other side of the mountains.
A few short days of easy travel over rolling hills and they'd made their way to the foot of the mountains. The Knight and his party experienced the first earth quake then, it was gentle enough that the Knight hadn't even noticed it. The dwarf sure did though.
"Something's not right," She said when the tiny quake ended. "Earth Wyrms must be fighting something else right now for us to be feeling this rumble."
"Then they'll be softened up for us when we get there, or maybe already dead. All that mattered to the princess was that they die, we need only verify those deaths." The Young Wizard said, hopeful he wouldn't have to fight at all.
The clergyman said a prayer to his strange god, and bid them all, "Prepare for the worst tomorrow, this way when it likely goes better than that, you can be overjoyed at our fortune."
The squire took the first watch, and the Knight the second. Nothing happened but the soft snores of their compatriots. For the third watch they had the elf. He required far less sleep than humans or dwarves, except for once a lunar month when he had to sleep for a whole day.
During his watch the ground rumbled again. More than rumbled, it shook and cracked. A span the size of large horse opened up and split their camp in half. The elf didn't exactly have to sound the alarm, everyone woke up to the thunderous crack of the landscape opening.
In the pre-dawn light leaking over the horizon they could see the fractures leading up into the mountains. Their camp just happened to be on the end of one such crack. The whole mountain they were headed to seemed to have cracked.
"These must indeed be large Wyrms." the Knight said. "I shall need all my weapons sharpened to their finest edge to piece their hides."
The Dwarf set to work spinning her whetstone and putting the sharpest edge on the Knight's swords and axes and even the arrow heads of her husband's arrows were sharpened. The squire was loaded down with heavy, very sharp weapons, and followed his master up into the recently cracked mountain. As they traveled the ground steadily rumbled.
They found an opening which they hoped would lead them into the caves inside the mountain where they might find at face these dread Earth Wyrms.
As they entered the caverns they were surprised to find a thick slime coating the walls.
"How curious." The young Wizard said, collecting a sample into a glass vial and staring at intently.
The clergyman said another prayer, and placed a blessing of damage resistance on all his friends. They would all be nigh-on unpuncturable, unslashable, and unbludgeonable for a few hours. You could do those things, and it might throw them around, but they wouldn't be injured any more than their pride. This foreign god's power was how the Knight had become so good at killing Wyrms. The clergyman had other blessings, which were not needed at the moment, fire resistance, and water breathing being two big ones. Air walking was a wizard trick, and so they recruited the young wizard.
The wizard projected a light up into the middle of the height of the cave they now found themselves in, and it showed that the cave was nearly as tall as the castle walls, in one direction it went off into the darkness beyond what his meek light could show, but the other direction was blocked by a gigantic wall of pink slimy flesh.
"Oh..." The wizard said, understanding a moment too late. "Earth Worms."
The Knight had approached the pink wall and tried to hack into it, but the slime coating the ouside of the great flesh mass was to sticky and too thick. It quickly stole his weapon from him, and then the next and the next and the next.
The gargantuan lack-minded creature, reacted to something behind it, and backed up in the tunnel. The Knight was quickly caught in the ooze, the squire too. The Elf unleashed a volley of arrows, but they met the same fate as their archer, only a few seconds sooner. The thick layer of mucus on the outside of the worms was the greatest armor they had ever faced. Almost as thick as a the knight was wide, it more than caught and stopped any attacks from such small creatures as the knight as his allies.
Trying desperately to help his wife escape, the elf and the dwarf ended up caught in the thick slime together.
The wizard knew he was boned, so stood and faced the slime with dignity.
And the Clergy man. Well, he said one final prayer for the souls of himself and his party members before being backed over by a brainless worm. His quiet hope was that his god would protect them all until the worm deposited them elsewhere as it continued to devour the mountain range.

The Great Wall and Wall Street: Become a Better Trader by Understanding the Perils of 🇨🇳 Chinese Companies on 🇺🇸 U.S. Exchanges
⚠️ Attention all traders and holders of Chinese stocks: You should read this if you don’t know what a VIE is. Sure, most of you will be repelled by the great wall of text here (so many words!), but you might want to keep this post nearby.
Hello. You are aware that Wall Street’s bustling bazaar hosts a veritable Forbidden City of Chinese companies draped in ticker tape rather than silk. Today, I will provide background and data on all allowed Chinese companies listed on three of the largest U.S. stock exchanges: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and NYSE American.
I should note that a bustling troupe of 26 national securities exchanges are registered with the SEC in the United States. Most are owned by the Nasdaq, NYSE, or the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE).
Nonetheless, based on data from the World Federation of Exchanges as of August 2023, the NYSE and Nasdaq were the top two exchanges behemoths of the global financial stage, accounting for 42.4% of the total $110.2 trillion in valuation traded across 80 major global exchanges.
🖼️ I had a photo of Wall Street to add here, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
2022 vs. 2023
According to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, as of January 8, 2024, there were 265 Chinese companies listed on the three U.S. exchanges, with a total market capitalization of $848 billion. That valuation is down from a year prior—January 9, 2023—when a slightly lower 252 Chinese companies were tracked, but they represented a total market capitalization of $1.03 trillion.
Since January 2023, 24 Chinese companies have entered the spotlight of the three U.S. exchanges, raising $656 million in combined initial public offerings (IPOs). On the other hand, eleven Chinese companies have folded their tents and delisted.
China Securities Regulatory Commission
The American stock exchanges witnessed a springtime bloom of Chinese IPOs in the first quarter of 2023. However, this listing activity came to an abrupt halt as the clock struck March 31, 2023.
Why? The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) implemented a revised approval process for companies going public overseas.
I won’t get into the details, but China has rules to cap foreign investment and ownership in sectors deemed strategic, such as technology. In the past, those regulations have driven several Chinese firms to the legal gymnastics of a Variable Interest Entity (VIE) structure—a clever contrivance that allowed them to leapfrog domestic constraints.
However, under the revised review mechanism, every company, regardless of its corporate ownership structure, must now bow before the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to register its intent to list overseas.
🖼️ I had a photo of the CSRC building to add here, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
The gatekeeper
Therefore, although the CSRC touted this regulation as a necessary measure for enforcing regulatory compliance and preventing fraud (which is true), it also helps regulators act as gatekeepers poised to block any proposed listing they deem poses a risk to their national security or jeopardizes China's national interests.
This process is wide-ranging. For instance, it includes an evaluation of the company’s safeguards against disclosing what the Chinese Communist Party considers potential state secrets. But we’re not talking about top-secret black-ops projects meant to be hidden from international oversight committees. No… any company that collects personal information on more than one million users requires stern data security review mechanisms for its cross-border data flows.
For perspective, TikTok has over 150 million users in the U.S. alone and is not subject to the same scrutiny from the Western nations.
Currently, the CSRC approval process is reportedly taking upward of six months.
Audit inspections and investigations in China
You’re probably unaware of the HFCAA, so let’s start there.
The Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act of 2020 (HFCAA) is a law that requires companies publicly listed on stock exchanges in the U.S. to disclose to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) information on foreign jurisdictions that prevent the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) from conducting inspections.
That law laid down a stern ultimatum: If Chinese authorities kept obstructing the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) from inspecting audit firms in China or Hong Kong for three consecutive years, the companies audited by these entities would face a ban from the bustling arenas of the U.S. exchanges.
Basically, either China allowed the PCAOB to inspect the audit firms, or the companies had to change to another auditing firm within three years.
Then, as 2022 waned to its final days (literally, on December 29), President Joe Biden signed a Consolidated Appropriations Act, which contained a provision that will tighten the noose, shortening future timelines from three consecutive years to only two.
Once they looked under the rock
Finally allowed to conduct full investigations of audit firms in mainland China and Hong Kong after over a decade of obstruction, the PCAOB announced the findings of its first round of inspections in May 2023, identifying deficiencies in seven of eight audits conducted by the auditing firms KPMG Huazhen and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Hong Kong. Audits of Chinese Companies Are Highly Deficient, U.S. Regulator Says
On November 30, 2023, the PCAOB announced fines against three audit firms in China, totaling $7.9 million for misconduct. For perspective, that number included the second and third-largest fines ever doled out by the PCAOB.
Why were the fines so bad?
Those sneaky Chinese accountants
Imagine a gaggle of accountants in the far reaches of PwC China and Hong Kong applying for a U.S. auditing curriculum. But alas, these foreign accountants find the U.S. auditing training tests a trifle tedious, so someone came up with the answers and decided to pass them around like a secret note in a schoolroom.
From 2018 to 2020, over 1,000 of these busy bees completed their U.S. auditing online exams by copying the answers from two unauthorized apps with a fervor that would make a gossip columnist blush.
When confronted with the evidence, PwC China and PwC Hong Kong response: 🤷‍♂️
And let me remind you, this happened late last year. Both firms are expected to provide reasonable assurance that their personnel will act with integrity in connection with internal training and to report their compliance to the PCAOB within 150 days—April 2024.
🖼️ I was planning on using an AI-generated image of Chinese accountants cheating, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
State-owned enterprises
According to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, this graph represents the total market capitalization of Chinese companies listed in the three U.S. exchanges.
Market Capitalization of Listed Chinese Companies
The number of listed companies has stayed at around 260. However, all Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have delisted themselves from U.S. exchanges, most of them soon after the PCAOB announced it had secured complete access to Chinese auditors’ records.
Variable Interest Entities (VIEs)
Most traders—and that means you—are unaware that 166 Chinese companies currently listed on the three major U.S. exchanges use a VIE structure.
As of January 8, 2024, these companies have a market capitalization of $772 billion. For perspective, that represents 91% of the total market capitalization of all the Chinese firms listed on the three major U.S. exchanges.
What the hell is a VIE?
It is a complex corporate structure that grants shareholders contractual claims to control via an offshore shell company without transferring actual ownership in the company.
A Variable Interest Entity (VIE) is a bit like a riverboat casino’s cleverest trick, allowing a company to sell its chips on a foreign table without ever letting the players hold the cards directly.
A VIE is a structure used primarily by companies that wish to partake in the financial streams of another country (the U.S. exchanges) without breaking local laws (Chinese laws) that prevent full ownership.
Remember, Chinese companies structured themselves as VIEs to circumvent China’s restrictions—not U.S. restrictions—on foreign ownership in industries the CCP deems sensitive.
Therefore, when you hold stock in one of these Chinese companies, you’re not officially holding any actual ownership in the company. Because if you did, then that company could be breaking Chinese restrictive caps on foreign investment and ownership.
That’s why they set up a façade, or a legal entity, that controls the business on paper, but the true power and profits are funneled back to the company pulling the strings.
Granted, it’s not as shaky as asking a random stranger to hold your shares, but it is crafty, and you should be aware of the risks.
Wait. What are the risks?
You need to understand that there’s a shadow of potential risk looming. Potential. Now, don't mistake me for the town crier of doom; I'm not proclaiming that the sky is falling on these shares. Nor am I declaring that disaster is certain for Chinese stocks.
What I am pointing out, however, is the presence of a risk—a subtle beast that might just catch you off guard if you remain unaware.
And let’s face it: Most of you are completely oblivious to these issues.
There are two sides here: 🇺🇸 & 🇨🇳
🇺🇸
Since July 2021, the SEC has imposed additional disclosure requirements for Chinese companies using a VIE to sell shares in the U.S. These requirements include greater transparency about the relationship between the VIE and its Chinese operating companies.
In summary, the SEC aims to push VIEs toward the company behind them to offer more clarity on U.S. investor ownership in the Chinese operating company.
🇨🇳
On the other side, Chinese companies that list overseas using a VIE were not required to register their listings with the CSRC, as the VIE is not considered a Chinese company under China’s law. This is the reason VIEs were used in the first place.
However, as I mentioned earlier, after March 31, 2023, the CSRC established requirements for all new Chinese companies to register and receive permission before going public overseas—even those planning to use VIE structures. That’s why there was a boom of Chinese IPOs before that deadline.
Granted, on September 14, 2023, a Chinese auto insurance platform became the first company that received the elusive blessing of the CSRC to list, and it did so using a VIE arrangement, breaking the long, dry spell that had plagued Chinese IPOs when she listed on the Nasdaq four days later.
However, even though VIEs received some sort of recognition from the CSRC, the VIE corporate structures still hold dubious legal status under China’s laws. Remember, VIEs purpose is to avoid being considered a Chinese company under China’s laws.
So… do you see the potential risk here?
Umm… No, I don’t get it.
Think about it. Either country could potentially increase regulations for VIEs, but if the SEC forces them to be more transparent, the VIE would not be able to circumvent China’s restrictions. That’s one risk.
Also, at some point, China’s CSRC might question whether it’s appropriate to recognize a corporate structure that was created to circumvent its laws.
Which leads me to this: What’s keeping the CCP from deciding to start reigning in those VIEs?
The answer is simple: They’re not in a hurry to do so because if misfortune should befall, it’ll be the foreign investors who’ll see their assets deflated like a punctured balloon.
🖼️ I would've added a nice image or two by now, to balance all the text and make this more appealing, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
If a VIE-listed company goes private at a lower valuation, businesses fail, or there’s a valuation discrepancy, the enforceability of a VIE’s contractual arrangements is unproven in Chinese courts. With VIE-listed companies, foreign investors’ recourse in the Chinese legal system is as elusive as a catfish’s whisper.
Yeah, but that’s unlikely…
Sure. Of course, I’m not saying every Chinese stock will have these issues. But it can happen. And it has happened.
The unlucky case of Luckin Coffee
Due to the lack of compliance with international audit inspections, Chinese corporate financial statements’ reliability for valuation and investment is not assured.
Such is the case of Luckin Coffee. In a bold bid to capture Wall Street’s hearts and wallets, Luckin Coffee showed up dressed in finery, flaunting alluring figures of revenue, operations, and bustling customer traffic.
At her grand debut, the stock sashayed onto the Nasdaq at $17, swirling up a storm of interested buyers to the tune of $561 million in capital.
For a fleeting moment, Luckin shimmered like a star over the financial firmament, boasting a market capitalization that soared to a heady $12 billion, with shares peaking just over $50.
Ah, but as the adage goes, ‘Truth will out.’ And out it came—the revelation of those embroidered numbers caused the company's stock to plummet like a stone tossed from a bridge, leaving a wake of investor losses and culminating in a disgraceful delisting from Nasdaq 13 months after her debut. Luckin Coffee Drops Nasdaq Appeal; Shares to Be Delisted
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of a cup of Luckin Coffee jumping from a bridge, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
Well… but that won’t happen to me…
Uh-huh. On April 2, 2020, after announcing that employees—including its chief operating officer—falsified 2.2 billion yuan (about $310 million) in sales throughout 2019, Luckin's shares nosedived -80%.
This is from one of you unluckin bastards: I've lost 240k on Luckin Coffee, all my life savings. Now I'm broke af.
I’m sure many of you might reckon yourselves immune to a similar debacle since you think you’re smart enough to use stops to escape any runaway losses. It's time to wake up and smell the Luckin coffee. Chinese news catalysts often strike like lightning at night, and the stops you set under the sun cannot shield you from storms that explode in the moonlight. Dumbass.
Chinese regulators can be mercurial
Even though the PCAOB is currently able to perform its oversight responsibilities, concerns remain around the possibility that Chinese regulators might backtrack, potentially clamping down once again on the PCAOB's ability to access audit firms and personnel across mainland China and Hong Kong.
If that happens, the PCAOB can quickly declare a negative determination. HOWEVER, this action would only start the countdown under the HFCAA, giving U.S.-listed Chinese companies a window of TWO years to secure services from an auditor in a compliant jurisdiction or face a trading ban. That’s it.
Of course, within that time, Chinese regulators could agree once again to allow access to the PCAOB, thus resetting the two-year countdown without significant consequences.
What lurks in the shadows
Although the risk of PCAOB non-compliance looms over these financial engagements, it is the ghost of potentially misconstrued—or, let's say, creatively presented—earnings reports coming to light that should scare you most. Or, on the flip side, present the biggest opportunity.
I believe it is possible that there are several ghosts out there—ghastly financial figures dressed up a tad too finely—lingering in the shadows, unchecked and unchallenged. If they’re found and unveiled under the harsh spotlight of scrutiny, the fallout would be immediate and severe, leaving investors scrambling.
And if that happens, it’s not about diamond-holding through the plunge since the company might opt (or be forced) to delist from the U.S. exchanges.
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of an attractive young Chinese ghost woman, implying both the allure of Chinese stocks, but also the risk of getting closer. However, I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
You need to understand a crucial concept. Many traders believe that if a company messes up, plunges, and gets delisted, it means the company is basically over—dead. But that’s not the case here. A delisting does not equal death.
I mean, Luckin Coffee is still out there, alive and kicking.
16,218 stores and counting, covering 240+ cities across China.
You would think that a company like that would not be able to cheat on its balance sheet. Yeah, just like you would think PwC China would notice 1,000 accountants cheated their way through the U.S. auditing curriculum.
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of a Chinese accountant dabbing like a boss for getting his cheated accounting diploma, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
So… is it too far-fetched to believe more ghosts might come to light, now that the PCAOB can supervise the numbers?
I mentioned a flip side since you could specialize in tracking everything the PCAOB does. If you can get a whiff about increased auditing on a certain company, you might decide to play a short position in anticipation of a potential ghost coming to light. Be warned, though, that it’s not as if they tweet out which companies they’re auditing.
If I were to do it, I would research and join whatever digital saloon young Chinese ledger-keepers convene in. Perhaps I’d stumble upon a post by SumYungGuy or another pleading for advice on how to parley with the PCAOB Laowai making a fuss over his figures. The poor lad's in a pickle, you see, since he cheated the exam and doesn’t know squat.
Methodology
For the purposes of this table, a company is considered Chinese if:
  1. It has been identified as being from the PRC (the People's Republic of China) by the relevant stock exchange;
  2. It lists a PRC address as its principal executive office in filings with the SEC; or
  3. It has a majority of operations in the PRC, including a company structured offshore but whose value is ultimately tied through a relationship in the PRC.
⚠️ Some Chinese companies that use offshore corporate entities hide or do not identify their primary Chinese corporate domicile in their listing information. This complicates tracing, making it difficult to guarantee that this list captures all Chinese companies registered offshore.
I should also point out that this list does not include companies domiciled exclusively in Hong Kong or Macau.
⚠️ Remember, this list only considers Chinese companies listed on three of the largest U.S. stock exchanges: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and NYSE American.
Oh, and btw, this isn’t a list I came up with. This info was compiled by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. It’s their methodology and list.
Since the majority is a VIE, I’ve marked the ones that are not registered as a VIE with an asterisk (*). This is determined using the most recent annual report filed with the SEC. A company is judged to have a VIE if:
  1. It explicitly describes using a VIE to conduct all or part of its business operations in China, or
  2. It describes a subsidiary in which it has no direct equity interest but relies on contractual arrangements to exercise control and receive economic benefits from its operations in China.
⚠️ For companies that have been listed for less than a year, information contained in the company’s most recently updated investment prospectus, as filed with the SEC, is used instead.
Chinese companies listed on U.S. exchanges
Companies are arranged by the size of their current market capitalization. All companies utilize a VIE corporate structure, except those marked with an asterisk (*).

These are only 51 of the 261 Chinese companies currently listed on the major U.S. exchanges to comply with rule three. I kept the market cap minimum at $750M to allow for some wiggle room.
I mentioned earlier that the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission had 265 tickers, but that was on January 8, 2024. Since then, three companies have been acquired, and the other one has voluntarily delisted.
As you can confirm, the vast majority is structured as a VIE.
I was going to include charts to illustrate how several Chinese stocks—aside from the ones with the biggest market caps—tend to display sudden rallies, followed by after-hours reversals. It is important to recognize them, whether you want to capitalize on them, or avoid them entirely. But I can't add any more attachments, so...
Besides, it's unlikely that many of you have even read this far without images.
Have a good day.

2024.05.13 23:27 Kcore003 Need your opinion

I was on my last year of high school (where i live after the last year we start university )it was caranteen time where we used to be locked down.At that time we used to do lessons from zoom and that’s how I met the new guy who joined my classroom. He was dark haired and dark eyes, dressed always in black and listening to ANY kind of rock which tbh was TOTALLY my type.As soon as we returned to our physical classes we started getting to know each other more and me and my friends had decided that that year was the last one together so we would make the absolute fun without caring for anything and so it was.One of my fav teachers,my English teacher liked the guy too(as for the same music taste and scorpions fan)maybe she saw the tension and she always would tell him to sit and work together. The guy had funny pictures of me with different face expressions.Apparently i started having a crush on him and I didn’t do anything and the same for him,we would have our moments and my ex bestie (best friend at that time)would say that he writes her and how they chat and how he would say that i am stupid and idk what else which made me ofc step away thinking that if they have smth i will not mix.The year ended and that was it.Never saw him again he logged out of our group chat too and now he is in USA.Tbh I didn’t think about him or all if this till one moment one of my ex classmate the one i would have the most fun told me how she met one friend of his and how she(the guy’s friend)knew me (always people would refer to me by my long hair)because the guy had talked about me at her.My friend who told me this said how he had a crush on me and I let it go.He still had the pics and he had shown it to his friend. Idk what to do tho since I removed him from my instagram one time when one girl asked me about his instagram and j said idk and removed him so she couldn’t find him 💀 Btw now im at the third year of uni and 3 or 4 years have passed Ps:sorry for the grammar English is not my first language ☺️

2024.05.13 23:23 Hurlebatte Property & Land

(FOR WIKI VERSION CLICK HERE: https://whig.miraheze.org/wiki/Property_%26_Land)
Views on property by whigs varied, but one strain of thought put forth something like the follow. First, we should respect other people's (some might say creatures') autonomy and equal status as ends onto themselves, and we should try to not lessen or hurt each other. Second, if someone adds to themself without lessening another, they probably have not wronged anyone. Third, because of the first and second points, it follows that we can mix our labor with natural resources and have a property claim to the result, so long as we have not lessened, hurt, or restricted another in the process, by, for example, taking more than a fair share of land and thereby depriving others of a home or means to feed themselves.
Contrary to this thinking, there is a common thread running a thousand years through history. It starts with the Norman Invasion which imposed feudalism on the English people in the 11th century, it then runs to 12th century complaints about Normans hogging up land, it then runs to the Peasants' Revolt of the 14th century, then to the enclosure of the commons and depopulation of some villages to make way for wool production in the 16th century, then to English republicans denouncing this theft of the people's land in the 17th century, then to land reform efforts by whigs in the 18th and 19th centuries (including during the Anti-Rent War of New York), then to the housing crisis of the 21st century.
This is the common thread: the general public has suffered an unnecessary and unjust burden ever since a small class of people declared that the earth belonged to them alone, and imposed themselves on the villages, towns, and cities of England (later on the settlements in the colonies), by supposed right of the king, by supposed right of heaven. This insane system has largely survived until today by disguising itself as part of republicanism, but it is a remnant of feudalism. It is presented as the ideology of private land rights, when it is only the feudal theory of private land rights, and is in opposition to the classical republican theory which holds that land is a natural thing like the air, not the creation of humans, and that we all have an equal right to the land, to shelter ourselves in homes, to feed ourselves with produce, and to come together in a republican manner to decide the particulars of this equitable arrangement, like by imposing land value tax on those granted the privilege of holding more or better land than average.
QUOTES
"The same law of nature, that does by this means give us property, does also bound that property too. . . As much as any one can make use of to any advantage of life before it spoils, so much he may by his labour fix a property in: whatever is beyond this, is more than his share, and belongs to others. . . But the chief matter of property being now not the fruits of the earth, and the beasts that subsist on it, but the earth itself; as that which takes in and carries with it all the rest; I think it is plain, that property in that too is acquired as the former. As much land as a man tills, plants, improves, cultivates, and can use the product of, so much is his property. . . Nor was this appropriation of any parcel of land, by improving it, any prejudice to any other man, since there was still enough, and as good left; and more than the yet unprovided could use. So that, in effect, there was never the less left for others because of his enclosure for himself: for he that leaves as much as another can make use of, does as good as take nothing at all. No body could think himself injured by the drinking of another man, though he took a good draught, who had a whole river of the same water left him to quench his thirst: and the case of land and water, where there is enough of both, is perfectly the same."
—John Locke (Two Treatises of Government, book 2 chapter 5)
". . . a right to property is founded in our natural wants, in the means with which we are endowed to satisfy these wants, and the right to what we acquire by those means without violating the similar rights of other sensible beings; that no one has a right to obstruct another, exercising his faculties innocently for the relief of sensibilities made a part of his nature. . ."
—Thomas Jefferson (a letter to Pierre Samuel Du Pont de Nemours, 1816)
"Another means of silently lessening the inequality of property is to exempt all from taxation below a certain point, & to tax the higher portions of property in geometrical progression as they rise. Whenever there is in any country, uncultivated lands and unemployed poor, it is clear that the laws of property have been so far extended as to violate natural right. The earth is given as a common stock for man to labour & live on. If, for the encouragement of industry we allow it to be appropriated, we must take care that other employment be furnished to those excluded from the appropriation. If we do not the fundamental right to labour the earth returns to the unemployed. It is too soon yet in our country to say that every man who can not find employment but who can find uncultivated land, shall be at liberty to cultivate it, paying a moderate rent. But it is not too soon to provide by every possible means that as few as possible shall be without a little portion of land. The small landholders are the most precious part of a state."
—Thomas Jefferson (a letter to James Madison, 1785)
"It has been pretended by some (and in England especially) that inventors have a natural and exclusive right to their inventions; & not merely for their own lives, but inheritable to their heirs. but while it is a moot question whether the origin of any kind of property is derived from nature at all, it would be singular to admit a natural, and even an hereditary right to inventions. it is agreed by those who have seriously considered the subject, that no individual has, of natural right, a separate property in an acre of land, for instance. by an universal law indeed, whatever, whether fixed or moveable, belongs to all men equally and in common, is the property, for the moment, of him who occupies it; but when he relinquishes the occupation the property goes with it. stable ownership is the gift of social law, and is given late in the progress of society. it would be curious then if an idea, the fugitive fermentation of an individual brain, could, of natural right, be claimed in exclusive and stable property. if nature has made any one thing less susceptible, than all others, of exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an Idea; which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of every one, and the reciever cannot dispossess himself of it. it’s peculiar character too is that no one possesses the less, because every other possesses the whole of it. he who recieves an idea from me, recieves instruction himself, without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, recieves light without darkening me. that ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benvolently designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density in any point; and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement, or exclusive appropriation. inventions then cannot in nature be a subject of property. society may give an exclusive right to the profits arising from them as an encouragement to men to pursue ideas which may produce utility. but this may, or may not be done, according to the will and convenience of the society, without claim or complaint from any body."
—Thomas Jefferson (a letter to Isaac McPherson, 1813)
"Establish the principle also in the new law to be passed for protecting copyrights & new inventions, by securing the exclusive right for 19 [years]."
—Thomas Jefferson (a letter to James Madison, 1789)
"Consequently there is as yet no such thing as a street except adjacent to the lots actually sold or divided; the erection of a house in any part of the ground cannot as yet be a nuisance in law. Mr. Carrol is tenant in common of the soil, with the public, and the erection of a house by a tenant in common on the common property is no nuisance. Mr. Carrol has acted imprudently, intemperately, foolishly; but he has not acted illegally. There must be an establishment of the streets before his house can become a nuisance in the eye of the law. Therefore till that establishment neither Majr. Lenfant, nor the Commissioners would have had a right to demolish his house without his consent."
—Thomas Jefferson (Enclosure: Observations on L'Enfant's Letter, 1791)
"It is a position not to be controverted that the earth, in its natural, uncultivated state was, and ever would have continued to be, the common property of the human race. In that state every man would have been born to property. He would have been a joint life proprietor with rest in the property of the soil, and in all its natural productions, vegetable and animal. But the earth in its natural state, as before said, is capable of supporting but a small number of inhabitants compared with what it is capable of doing in a cultivated state. And as it is impossible to separate the improvement made by cultivation from the earth itself, upon which that improvement is made, the idea of landed property arose from that parable connection; but it is nevertheless true, that it is the value of the improvement, only, and not the earth itself, that is individual property. Every proprietor, therefore, of cultivated lands, owes to the community a ground-rent (for I know of no better term to express the idea) for the land which he holds. . . There could be no such thing as landed property originally. Man did not make the earth, and, though he had a natural right to occupy it, he had no right to locate as his property in perpetuity any part of it; neither did the Creator of the earth open a land-office, from whence the first title-deeds should issue. Whence then, arose the idea of landed property? I answer as before, that when cultivation began the idea of landed property began with it, from the impossibility of separating the improvement made by cultivation from the earth itself, upon which that improvement was made. The value of the improvement so far exceeded the value of the natural earth, at that time, as to absorb it; till, in the end, the common right of all became confounded into the cultivated right of the individual. But there are, nevertheless, distinct species of rights, and will continue to be, so long as the earth endures. It is only by tracing things to their origin that we can gain rightful ideas of them, and it is by gaining such ideas that we, discover the boundary that divides right from wrong, and teaches every man to know his own. . . While, therefore, I advocate the right, and interest myself in the hard case of all those who have been thrown out of their natural inheritance by the introduction of the system of landed property, I equally defend the right of the possessor to the part which is his. Cultivation is at least one of the greatest natural improvements ever made by human invention. It has given to created earth a tenfold value. But the landed monopoly that began with it has produced the greatest evil. It has dispossessed more than half the inhabitants of every nation of their natural inheritance, without providing for them, as ought to have been done, an indemnification for that loss, and has thereby created a species of poverty and wretchedness that did not exist before. . . It is not charity but a right, not bounty but justice, that I am pleading for. The present state of civilization is as odious as it is unjust. It is absolutely the opposite of what it should be, and it is necessary that a revolution should be made in it. . . It is the practice of what has unjustly obtained the name of civilization. . . to make some provision for persons becoming poor and wretched only at the time they become so. Would it not, even as a matter of economy, be far better to adopt means to prevent their becoming poor?. . ."
—Thomas Paine (Agrarian Justice)
"I care not how affluent some may be, provided that none be miserable in consequence of it."
—Thomas Paine (Agrarian Justice)
"Separate an individual from society, and give him an island or a continent to possess, and he cannot acquire personal property. He cannot be rich. So inseparably are the means connected with the end, in all cases, that where the former do not exist the latter cannot be obtained. All accumulation, therefore, of personal property, beyond what a man's own hands produce, is derived to him by living in society; and he owes on every principle of justice, of gratitude, and of civilization, a part of that accumulation back again to society from whence the whole came."
—Thomas Paine (Agrarian Justice)
"The law which prohibited people's having two inheritances was extremely well adapted for a democracy. It derived its origin from the equal distribution of lands and portions made to each citizen. The law would not permit a single man to possess more than a single portion. . . It is not sufficient in a well regulated democracy that the divisions of land be equal; they ought also to be small, as was customary among the Romans. 'God forbid, said Curius to his soldiers, that a citizen should look upon that as a small piece of land, which is sufficient to support a man.'"
—Charles Montesquieu (The Spirit of Laws, book 5)
"The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself of saying This is mine, and found people simple enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows: Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody."
—Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Discourse on the Origin and Basis of Inequality Among Men, part 2)
"In general, to establish the right of the first occupier over a plot of ground, the following conditions are necessary: first, the land must not yet be inhabited; secondly, a man must occupy only the amount he needs for his subsistence; and, in the third place, possession must be taken, not by an empty ceremony, but by labour and cultivation, the only sign of proprietorship that should be respected by others, in default of a legal title."
—Jean-Jacques Rousseau (The Social Contract, book 1 section 9)
"In granting the right of first occupancy to necessity and labour, are we not really stretching it as far as it can go? Is it possible to leave such a right unlimited? Is it to be enough to set foot on a plot of common ground, in order to be able to call yourself at once the master of it? Is it to be enough that a man has the strength to expel others for a moment, in order to establish his right to prevent them from ever returning? How can a man or a people seize an immense territory and keep it from the rest of the world except by a punishable usurpation, since all others are being robbed, by such an act, of the place of habitation and the means of subsistence which nature gave them in common? When Nunez Balboa, standing on the sea-shore, took possession of the South Seas and the whole of South America in the name of the crown of Castile, was that enough to dispossess all their actual inhabitants, and to shut out from them all the princes of the world? On such a showing, these ceremonies are idly multiplied, and the Catholic King need only take possession all at once, from his apartment, of the whole universe, merely making a subsequent reservation about what was already in the possession of other princes."
—Jean-Jacques Rousseau (The Social Contract, book 1 section 9)
"The like may be said in relation to my house, land, or estate; I may do what I please with them, if I bring no damage upon others. But I must not set fire to my house, by which my neighbour’s house may be burnt. I may not erect forts upon my own lands, or deliver them to a foreign enemy, who may by that means infest my country. I may not cut the banks of the sea, or those of a river, lest my neighbour’s ground be overflown, because the society into which I am incorporated, would by such means receive prejudice. My land is not simply my own, but upon condition that I shall not thereby bring damage upon the publick, by which I am protected in the peaceable enjoyment and innocent use of what I possess."
—Algernon Sidney (Discourses Concerning Government, chapter 3 section 41)
"The like continued amongst Jacob’s sons; no jurisdiction was given to one above the rest: an equal division of land was made amongst them: Their judges and magistrates were of several tribes and families, without any other preference of one before another, than what did arise from the advantages God had given to any particular person. This I take to be a proof of the utmost extent and certainty, that the equality amongst mankind was then perfect. . ."
—Algernon Sidney (Discourses Concerning Government, chapter 1 section 12)
"Men can hardly at once foresee all that may happen in many ages, and the changes that accompany them ought to be provided for. Rome in its foundation was subject to these defects, and the inconveniences arising from them were by degrees discover’d and remedi’d. They did not think of regulating usury, till they saw the mischiefs proceeding from the cruelty of usurers; or setting limits to the proportion of land that one man might enjoy, till the avarice of a few had so far succeeded, that their riches were grown formidable, and many by the poverty to which they were reduced became useless to the city."
—Algernon Sidney (Discourses Concerning Government, chapter 2 section 13)
"That the too long continued shame of this Nation, viz. permission of any to suffer such poverty as to beg their bread, may be forthwith effectually remedied; and to that purpose, that the poor be enabled to chuse their Trustees to discover all Stocks, Houses, Lands, &c. which of right belong to them and their use, that they may speedily receive the benefit thereof, and that some good improvement may be made of waste Grounds for their use. . ."
—John Lilburne (An Impeachment of High Treason against Oliver Cromwel)
"As soon as the land of any country has all become private property, the landlords, like all other men, love to reap where they never sowed, and demand a rent even for its natural produce."
—Adam Smith (The Wealth of Nations, book 1 chapter 6)
"The thirteenth ORDER. . . every man who is at present possest, or shall hereafter be possest of an estate in land exceeding the revenue of two thousand pounds a year, and having more than one son, shall leave his lands either equally divided among them, in case the lands amount to above 2000 l. a year to each; or so near equally in case they com under, that the greater part or portion of the same remaining to the eldest, excede not the value of two thousand pounds revenue. And no man, not in present possession of lands above the value of two thousand pounds by the year, shall receive, enjoy (except by lawful inheritance) acquire, or purchase to himself lands within the said territorys, amounting, with those already in his possession, above the said revenue."
—James Harrington (Oceana)
"All Property indeed, except the Savage’s temporary Cabin, his Bow, his Matchcoat, and other little Acquisitions absolutely necessary for his Subsistence, seems to me to be the Creature of public Convention. Hence the Public has the Right of Regulating Descents & all other Conveyances of Property, and even of limiting the Quantity & the Uses of it. All the Property that is necessary to a Man for the Conservation of the Individual & the Propagation of the Species, is his natural Right which none can justly deprive him of: But all Property superfluous to such purposes is the Property of the Publick, who by their Laws have created it, and who may therefore by other Laws dispose of it, whenever the Welfare of the Publick shall demand such Disposition. He that does not like civil Society on these Terms, let him retire & live among Savages.— He can have no right to the Benefits of Society who will not pay his Club towards the Support of it."
—Benjamin Franklin (a letter to Robert Morris, 1783)
"I think it could never be, that the best of the Proprietaries located uncultivated Lands should be taxed no higher than the worst of those of the People; that being so manifestly unjust. Nor that a Medium Rate should be fix’d on for all that kind of Lands, as this would be too high for some, and too low for others. Nor that the common Rate should be taken from the worst kind; for this would lay the Burthen chiefly on that kind, which is unjust and oppressive to the poorer People."
—Benjamin Franklin (a letter to Richard Jackson, 1764)
"It gives me Pain my Lord! to observe that the prevailing monopoly of Lands in this Colony has become a Grievance to the lower Class of People in it; and confines the Bounty of our gracious Sovereign to mercenary Land-Jobbers, and Gentlemen who have already shared very largely in the royal Munificence."
—John Jay (a letter to the Earl of Dartmouth, 1773)
"That the right of the Poor, in their Commons, may be preserved, and freed from the Usurpations, Enclosures, and Encroachments of all manner of Projectors, Undertakers, &c. and that all servile Tenures of Lands, as by Copy-holds, or the like, be abolished and holden for naught."
—Leveller tract (The Fundamental Lawes and Liberties of England claimed, asserted, and agreed unto, by severall Peaceable Persons of the City of London, Westminster, Southwark, Hamblets, and Places adjacent; commonly called Levellers.)
"The right to property being inviolable and sacred, no one ought to be deprived of it, except in cases of evident public necessity, legally ascertained, and on condition of a previous just indemnity."

2024.05.13 23:23 Sad_Brush8145 Neverending feeling

I feel like this is neverending and we are sp close to getting our girl home..
Our girl was born at 34 and 6 - I had every hope and dream of the ideal pregnancy and birth plan that turned into an OB I was not happy with, misdiagnosed preeclampsia that was called Gestational diabetes, my water breaking that had me admitted to the hospital for a week and told something different every day about going home to wait out my labour to happen on its own and ending up being induced. Thankfully the birth was amazing for our first, while being the most intense experience ever.
My hopes were shattered after our daughter was taken to be checked over, only to find out she was a TEF baby and given 5 minutes of skin to skin contact before being rushed to NICU. She has been poked and prodded, moved to 3 hospitals after birth, second for major surgery and third for the remainder of her recovery which has come down to requiring her to feed with no NG tube assistance for a minimum of 48 hours before they will begin to look at discharging.
We are doing everything we can, asking for tips and tricks from nurses, having the conversations and working on ourselves to be skilled with our baby but always feeling like we are doing the wrong things and making her stay in the NICU because we can't feed her a bottle properly.
I am not terrified of food aversion from her having so much trauma on her throat in the first 3 weeks of her life that she is scared to drink and is on high alert all time.
I don't know what I wanted from this post more so then to get it off my chest because its so hard to talk to family and friends who just don't understand what is happening and I don't want to hear them tell me they can relate to my feelings when they don't see what we are dealing with every day.
I hope of you are a NICU parent as well, and/ or going through recovery with TEF baby that you don't feel alone through it because I sure do..

2024.05.13 23:22 Tannir48 A Brief Analysis of 319 Thresh Top Games

A Brief Analysis of 319 Thresh Top Games
the least attractive Thresh enjoyer looks just like this
TL;DR THRESH
Hello,
I'm an NA diamond player and because I have major brain damage I play Thresh top. As a sigmachad member of the bros without hoes society I get up to a lot of things in the mancave, such as being hardstuck and crying sometimes. Now this is not your average toplane Thresh post, I didn't discover how to be worse Ornn yesterday, or last year, but in 2018 when I woke up and thought 'how can I be gold 4 for the rest of my life' and 7 million mastery points and three bought accounts later I'm proud to announce we've reached the peak burgerville (diamond north america). Today I thought I would look at my last 800+ games, specifically the 319 Thresh top games played over the last few months. Because when you have no actual achievements to flex, you can always show just how addicted you are to the virginity generator that is this video game
Now as a man who does math for fun I will have to proceed with the unpleasant task of forcing you to look at numbers. However I think this sub can always appreciate the sweet tones of misery so if that bothers you, then you might be in the wrong place. If that does not bother you, then welcome to the worst Post of your life
To understand the numbers we're looking at here first I want to divide up the data between those that were played as AD Thresh and the ones that were played as tank, and then divide again between ones that were played as a utility tank (spamming CDR) and ones played as a traditional tank. Now you might be thinking, why didn't you stick to one strategy you fucking clown. Well, Thresh top is like ice cream. Dogshit comes in so many flavors so you might as well try them all. Confidentially is also my reasoning for dropping Thresh jungle emerald 2 because what is hell without the fire
TABLE 1-A
Measures Tank Utility AD
Win Rate 51.1 49.3 38.1
Games Played 227 69 21
Record 116-111 34-35 8-13
Damage per Minute 626.4 585.9 712.4
% Damage Mitigated 58.7% 58.0% 44.2%
Gold per Minute 369.6 353.3 411.1
% Time CC'd 1.9% 2.6% 1.1%
Summary statistics on tank, utility, and AD Thresh toplane. Since every relevant variable was normally or nearly normally distributed in the density, most values represent the average.
As we can see here, I can barely manage a positive win rate on this pick despite playing more games in 3 months than 90% of players do in a year. I can't tell whether that's because I'm really bad or because of the pick but my brain stopped working when Obama was president so I'm going to say its both. However this is still better than the numbers C9 Fudge was posting at Worlds so as a fellow career failure maybe NA esports was my calling all along.
Now, as we can see full tank Thresh has the best win rate by a narrow margin over utility Thresh. AD Thresh has the highest damage per minute, it would be very sad if it didn't, as well as the highest income but is completely useless in every other way. Tank Thresh has the highest % damage mitigated, slightly higher than utility Thresh, and higher income. Utility Thresh has the best crowd control, CC'ing enemies over 2.6% of total game time on average so clearly the 100 haste is really paying off.
Since tank Thresh has the best overall numbers I will be looking at it in detail.
This is a histogram and a corresponding density plot of the damage per minute dealt by me against enemy champions - and the percentage of damage mitigated for all damage that I took in a game. Now I spent way too much time understanding the deep mathematical details of rectangles and so you will be forced to care about it for the next 30 seconds. Frequency is just the count within a bin (an arbitrary range of values in a histogram) while density is the probability per unit - the more 'dense' the cluster of observations, the greater the density within some value range. A histogram assumes a constant level of probability density within each bin and we do that because maybe I just don't owe you a fucking explanation. I like rectangles
https://preview.redd.it/m5q54odx990d1.png?width=698&format=png&auto=webp&s=77a974239c1607459fd05f39037e7ba2c9c781f2
This is the percentage of damage that toplane Thresh dealt, physical, magical, or true, to enemy champions in every game visualized as probability density. The vast majority of the time my true damage hovered around 0, physical damage varied between 10 and 20%, and the percentage done as magic damage was vastly higher. See guys, his passive isn't useless when you sit in lane for 35 minutes to do 10 extra damage to Nasus on hit
Bitches got curves but I got one hell of a gaussian normalized probability density function (in tricolor!)
Here are the exact numbers for each damage type
TABLE 2-A
Measures Tank
% Physical Damage Dealt 18.4%
% Magic Damage Dealt 80.5%
% True Damage Dealt 1.1%
Average percentage of damage dealt to enemy champions by damage type
Now that we have the distribution of the relevant variables with toplane Thresh I wanted to see how they varied with each other because I really need something to fill up space on my github project portfolio. This can be done using a correlation plot which essentially tells you the strength and direction of a linear relationship, if it exists, between any two pairs of variables.
as they say one plot a day keeps the statistician away
Many correlations here are not particularly strong and some are very trivial such as physical damage proportion dealt by the enemy team obviously having a strong negative correlation with the magic damage proportion. Here we have some truly staggering relationships such as
  • hitting spells does damage
  • getting money to buy items that do damage increases your damage
  • being unkillable lets you do more damage
  • you become tankier in longer games
The last point is particularly fascinating because I've never heard of levels before. Because I spend way too much time thinking about how bad Thresh passive is I wanted to mathematically prove that it is dogwater. Sadly I did not collect the proper data to actually do this - the number of souls collected in each game - because if I did that I'd be writing a real report and not a reddit post. Here we can see that the percentage of damage mitigated steadily increases from around 50% at 15 minutes to 60% by about 30 minutes and largely increasing to 70%+ by 40 whereas Leona reaches these numbers with rank 1 W. The dotted red line is a fitted OLS regression to this plot to see whether a relationship exists and whether it is linear
can you imagine 300 years of mathematical discovery culminating in a straight fucking line
Between the two outputs below we can see that it is. There is a steady positive association, it is statistically significant, with an adjusted Rsquared of 0.279. That is, 27.9% of variability in Thresh's durability can be attributed to game duration which seems reasonable because League is a lot like life, it really sucks without money. Joe Biden stimulus please I need to win
Below are the residual (error) and quantile quantile plot for this model. These are to test whether the linear relationship is valid, which it is so we can all pat ourselves on the back for plotting a straight line. The only issue is the QQ plot indicates the errors are not normally distributed, and I could segway this into a bad joke about them having a paranormal distribution but in the interests of making this post 10% less cancer I will not do so here
WHAT IS A THEORHETICAL QUANTILE
Non normality is the assumption that's nice to have but you don't actually care about. It mostly just means that OLS may not be best possible fit in this case.
Since I have not impressed upon you just how bad of a tank Thresh actually is I have made a bar plot of the above data where game time is split into below 20 and above 40 minutes with 5 minute intervals in between, as that's when most games were played. As we can see here resistances steadily increase due to souls, levels, and gold from 49.6% mitigation below 20 minutes to 66.9% past 40 minutes. If I dedicated as much time to this pick as I did to my future I might actually have one
do you think Donald Trump reads theory?
Below are several plots for toplane Thresh's average win rates for various proportions of damage on the enemy team. Here there is a loose trend that when the enemy team deals more magic damage toplane Thresh's win rate is worse. Similarly, there is a modest trend towards a higher win rate for higher proportions of physical damage dealt by the enemy team, as we would expect with Thresh. A very small drop in win rate can be attributed to an increase in true damage dealt by the enemy team, though as discussed this effect would be larger if the share of overall damage was higher.
the anomaly for below 30% magic damage is due to low sample size. dont ask me to play more, monk mental is strong but monkey mental is stronger
The next thing I wanted to look at was whether the magic damage proportion on the enemy team had any effect on the percentage of damage mitigated on toplane Thresh. This should be a reasonable thing to look at as Thresh has no magic resist. However he does when I introduce the enemy mages to Kaenic Rookern, because I got 99 problems and Lux ain't one. As you can see, there is minimal to no effect. This is presumably this is due to Thresh naturally mitigating more damage vs lower AP comps and mitigating a similar amount vs high AP comps as I will stack MR vs them leading to a consistent ~60% damage mitigated vs these teams.
Real wardens don't want a woman they want a god damn magic resist scaling on souls
A similar spread may be observed for physical damage proportion.
Nice passive I think I got more impact collecting tier 1 charzards in pokemon go
Nor is much effect observed vs true damage overall though this is because nobody does true damage until sword momma fiona beats me with her magic shit stick. When true damage proportions are higher, above 15%, damage mitigated is noticeably lower which is the sort of advanced reasoning that should get me a worthy publication in the next edition of Dimwits Weekly
why are we still here just to suffer
Here are toplane Thresh's general statistics vs teams that have more magic damage than physical (vs AP) and teams that have more physical damage than magical (vs AD). I mostly played vs majority physical teams but also played 84 games vs majority magic teams. Against majority physical teams I had a 13% higher win rate and my numbers were better across the board except obtaining one less kill (median) and having equal assists and CC time. Many of these differences were modest. In a 27 minute game (approximately the average between comps) I earned about 250 more gold and did about as much additional damage against the AD vs the AP teams.
TABLE 1-B
Measures vs Maj AP vs Maj AD
Win Rate 42.9% 55.9%
Record 36-48 80-63
Damage per Minute 620.2 630.0
Gold per Minute 362.4 373.8
CS per Minute 5.9 6.1
Kills 4 3
Deaths 5 4
Assists 9 9
% Damage Mitigated 57.5% 59.3%
% Time CC'd 1.9% 1.9%
Based on these numbers alone there's no clear reason why my win rate is so much lower vs majority AP teams though it could have something to do with the (major loser) Karma top knocking my glowing green skull in for 40 very unpleasant minutes. As a toplane enjoyer I love poke. Maybe a larger sample size is necessary, as games can be lost due to a bad team, though as the protagonist of reality I know it's always the side characters who are ruining my life. However, I do not have the data to explain why the jungle gap has held me hardstuck so instead I will look at my itemization and related win rates vs majority AD and majority AP teams below.
i guess you could say these items are making me a real THORN in the side of enemy teams as thornmail is no.1
In another staggering conclusion armor reduces physical damage, especially sunfire, which has a 71.1% win rate against AD teams. Most other armor items have a 60%+ win rate, such as thornmail, tabis, and frozen heart. MR items do well vs majority AD teams as they're blocking the 10 damage Renekton R is doing to me every five minutes. On the other hand, MR items do poorly against actual magic damage with abyssal being the only one with more wins than losses. Mercury's treads are especially bad with a 36.7% win rate in 49 games.
https://preview.redd.it/kfw7mda4f90d1.png?width=684&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b3745af13d68eca417dc282c0f951f5f6c28b2e
One factor that is consistently, positively, associated with a higher win rate is when I actually get to play the game and do damage. Win rate increases from below 40% to over 70% from under 400 damage per minute to 700+.
As we can see, when I take out those years of pent up teenage nerd rage on the green elo I tend to win.
WHIPPING THE CORPSE
In general, when damage per minute is above average toplane Thresh has a very high win rate but when damage is below average the win rate is almost 30% lower. This indicates that durability is not the only factor in whether tank toplane Thresh can win but also depends on whether the enemy is trolling even harder than you are
TABLE 1-C
Measures High Damage High Resists Low Damage High Resists
Win Rate 67.0% 38.6%
Record 67-33 49-78
This may explain why my win rate is 13% lower vs AP teams as I rarely buy thornmail, as it has lower value vs non-autoattackers, which greatly increases Thresh's damage because what would a tank item be without damage
TABLE 2-C
Measures Thornmail Abyssal Thornmail + Abyssal
Win Rate 57.7% 67.8% 79.2%
Record 60-44 40-19 19-5
Damage per Minute 674.5 722.4 809.2
Thus, to increase my win rate against majority AP teams one step I can take is to buy abyssal more frequently as this will amplify Thresh's damage from both his abilities and sunfire or hollow radiance. Another is to buy items such as heartsteel which provide value vs both AD and AP teams while providing damage and increasing the burn dps on sunfire or hollow radiance. While this item is terrible the sound of hitting an enemy for 100 damage every 30 seconds is really satisfying to my ADHD. I may also be able to run items such as sorcerer's shoes and runes such as shield bash for maximum trolling.
The lack of viability of thornmail as a viable option for toplane Thresh hinders its viability vs AP heavy teams but this may be compensated for thru methods as suggested here. Gentlemen, that concludes this post. I'm racking up the mastery points on my current account (950k and counting) while losing elo faster than the guys who bought puts on NVIDIA. 2024.05.13 23:22 Same-Philosopher-927 My sister got mad at me for regularly eating in a hospital cafeteria, and got our parents on her side. The rest of the family laid into them for it. So my sister decided to prank me as revenge by literally having my bike stolen and dumped. I nearly called the cops.

I really apologize for the length of this post. But writing down all the details took way longer than I thought. And this situation was downright crazy. I never thought my sister would do something like this. Not too long ago I (23m) posted in AITAH for advice because my parents and sister were angry at me for regularly eating in a hospital cafeteria because it's close to my work. I enjoy the peace and quiet there on the days I do show up to eat. But this situation escalated so radically, that I can't believe something so dumb actually happened. My sister did the pettiest thing she's ever done to me. And for completely undeserved reasons too.
When my sister found out I was eating at the hospital cafeteria, she went off on me over how that food is just for people who are at the hospital because they need to be. We ended up in a big argument about it in which I told her it wasn't like I was taking food from the mouths of patients. Then she went to our parents to get them on her side like always. And they immediately sided with her just like I thought they would. They backed her up on how the hospital cafeteria was not a place to go eating casually. And we had a big argument. They spent days hounding me and telling me I was wrong, and demanding I stop. So I went to Reddit. And here I learned that not only was I not doing anything wrong. But it's a very common thing for people to go eat at hospital cafeterias just because they like it.
I hoped the situation would just fade away. But a few days later, my sister called me asking if I had stopped eating at the hospital. I said no. And then it started all over again. My parents then called me fuming and acting like I was supposed to stop going because they said so. I reminded them that I don't live under their roof anymore. And this is exactly the kind of reason why I moved out. They take my sister's side in almost everything. They huffed and puffed about it.
This time the fight didn't stay at home though. Other relatives found out because my sister tried to broaden her support. She was so dead set on enforcing her will upon me, that she went looking for help from other relatives. But our parents were the only ones on her side. And my uncle personally admonished my parents and her over the phone for it once I told him what actually happened. He told them they were only siding with my sister because she's their favorite. And they're terrible parents for ever playing favorites to begin with. Then cousin went to eat with me at that hospital cafeteria, and said he'd like to go there once as week too, as he also works nearby and bicycles everywhere. We've run into each other at lunch there once already since then. He was actually rather pleased to find out the food was made healthier than most other places. He's a bit of a picky eater. So this place is kinda like his new lunch hangout. And my sister got even angrier after finding out there were other people in the family eating at the hospital now too.
Once outed, my parents backed down due to embarrassment. They apologized to me, and gave me some malarkey that they honestly thought eating at a hospital was weird, and that they felt like they just needed to defend my sister. I told them they'd been placating my sister for so long, that it's all they do whenever she starts something with anyone. She's been treating me like a condescending control freak and a bully since we were teenagers, even though I'm older. And they just kept enabling that. But I won't put up with it anymore. My parents ended up conceding, and apologized. Then they made my sister apologize to me too. And I could tell she hated every second of it, because she tried to speak through her teeth at first.
Later on my parents invited me to dinner as another form of apology. But it felt more like a show to look good to the rest of the family, because they told everyone about it before it even happened. The dinner was great, I can't deny. My parents had cooked a turkey. Arguable one of my favorite things to eat. I love the drumsticks slathered with gravy. Yeah, I'm kinda a pig when I eat them. But I can't help it. My sister always thought it hilarious. And was one of the few things I didn't mind her laughing about. So I thought nothing of why she was so giggly at dinner.
Later after the family dinner, I noticed that my bike was missing. I'd parked it in the back yard out of sight. But it was just gone. I freaked out because it's my only mode of transportation. My parents did panic a bit with me. But my sister seemed just the opposite. She actually looked happy and was still giggling. I immediately suspected her, and she played innocent. She even gave the "I can't believe you'd think I'd do something like that!" line. I already knew she's extremely petty. But this was a whole new level of it for her. So I said that I was gonna go over to the neighbor because I know they have cameras, and they'd have seen what happened. And then I'd call the cops. My sister suddenly looked panicked, and I got mad and said I knew it was her. And demanded my bike back. She started crying and saying she didn't do anything. And our parents were immediately taking her side while scolding me for daring to accuse her.
So I had enough and said I was going to the neighbor's to ask to check their cameras. And then I'd be calling police. My sister finally fessed up and called me to come back. The looks on our parents' faces after they'd just defended her were priceless. My sister said she was just so angry at me for having made her apologize for something she still believed she was right about. So she planned to have a couple of her friends to come and grab my bike during dinner. She said her friends were in a minivan with it just down the street. She then started saying that I couldn't call police on her anyway, because I'm her big brother. Our parents backed that up too. But I pulled out my phone and started marching outside again. They ran after me with my sister begging and crying for me to stop. I called her a brat. And then I told my parents I couldn't believe they were still defending her when she was acting this way.
Our parents finally hit their enabling limit with her and told her to make her friends bring my bike back immediately. She got on her phone while sniffling and called her friends up. But then she suddenly ran into her room to talk to them. I couldn't hear a thing she said through the door because it was all in whispers. And our parents looked very worried too.
My sister would never have willingly admitted she had my bike stolen. She just kept sobbing that it was only a prank over and over again. And she also kept using the excuse that it's just a cheap bike anyway. I bought it used some months ago for $50. But it's in great shape. And it's my main mode of transportation. My sister kept looking at our parents to back her up. And that time they just couldn't. So she just slumped down in a chair hugging her knees and waiting with the rest of us. My sister looked increasingly freaked out the longer her friends took to bring my bike back, and was repeatedly texting them.
Even though my sister said her friends were just down the street, it took them roughly an hour to bring my bike back. They finally pulled up in the minivan with my bike shoved in the back. And it was completely soaked and all muddy. Like it'd just been pulled out of a wet muddy ditch. The bike is a 700c, so it's too tall for either of them to ride. So they just drove right up and stole the bike by dragging it into the van as fast as they could before taking off. I say they stole it because I was almost certain in the moment my sister had told them to dispose of my bike. Had I not pointed out the neighbors have cameras, I may not have gotten it back.
When her friends did finally arrive, their legs were all muddy and wet nearly up to their knees. They both begged me not report them to police for taking the bike. I asked while recording them to tell me the truth, and pointed out the neighbors have cameras. Did my sister want them to get rid of my bike? They broke down and said yes, my sister wanted them to take the bike and dump it in a pond a few miles away. And they had to go back and get it when they realized they were caught. My bike had been near completely submerged in muddy water. Thankfully I didn't have many added accessories on it other than a detachable headlight and my water bottle. But the water bottle was missing.
I wasn't surprised by what my sister's friends told me. And I had them tell our parents too. They laid into my sister till she was bawling on the floor kicking and pounding like a toddler. I had never seen my sister act that way since she actually was a toddler. And I found it mortifying she was still like this on the inside. Then she shut herself in her room. Her friends were banned from ever coming to my parents' house again. Then my sister was forced to come out of her room by our mother, and make another big apology to me.
Our father then forced her to wash and oil my bike from stem to stern under his supervision while I took apart the headlight and cleaned it out to dry it. By the time my sister was done, it was dark outside. She glared at me like I was the devil when she came back in the house. But our parents shut her attitude right down, and said they've never been more embarrassed by her in their lives. She went back to crying in her room. I had a very frank discussion with my parents about my sister's child-like behavior. And how it stemmed from their spoiling and enabling. I said I couldn't believe I had to be the voice of reason. But the fact that she was on the floor crying like a toddler, kicking and pounding, showed that she's still mentally a child because of them. And they kept making me the scapegoat when she screwed up, so she barely knows any sense of accountability. For once they didn't argue with me about it. And then my father silently drove me and my bike back to my apartment with his SUV. He also gave me some money to replace my bike's missing water bottle before we parted.
My sister and her clique used to harass me a fair bit whenever we ran into each other. They made fun of me as a group whenever possible. And I usually just ignored them because they bored me. And that really seemed to tick them off. But after the bike incident, I got sent numerous messages from numbers I didn't know cussing me out for making my sister cry over a silly prank. Knowing her, my sister probably fed everyone she knew a very different story on what happened. I texted lengthy replies of what actually happened, and even stated I have recordings of her friends admitting the truth.
Some people at my sister's college found out what actually went down. Maybe from my texts, maybe her friends spilled the beans. But it embarrassed my sister so much she came home having a crying tantrum about how people there were calling her and her friends B's and a bike thieves. I may not have gone to college. But I know students who need them are VERY protective of their bikes. A lot of them live on shoestring budgets after all. My sister said someone even joked that they shouldn't leave a bike around her, because it might just disappear if she had to apologize to anyone. My sister ended up so upset that she refused to leave her room for three days to have her pity party.
My parents called me up to try and turn everything on me again. I reminded them about the discussion we had days before, and that they needed to stop babying her, and let her deal with the repercussions of her own actions. If she fails her classes again, it's because she's not trying like she should be. Then I went off on them how were just looking for someone to blame to make her feel better. She made the problem. Not me. And I wasn't gonna be the one they make the scapegoat anymore. My sister is an adult. And she needs to act like it. They sounded defeated, and then apologized before ending the call. Looks like they were genuinely hoping I'd just sit back and take the blame so my sister would get better. But I never will again.
Now my parents are trying to pretend this all never happened, and my sister as well as her clique are avoiding me at all costs. Which I suppose is fine with me. Because I don't want anymore drama. But the next time something like this happens, I won't take it from them.
TLDR: My sister make a big deal of me eating at a hospital cafeteria, and then had her friends steal and dump my bike just because I made her apologize to me. Now she's being ridiculed by everyone.

2024.05.13 23:20 KhaoticEnergy My (27f) husband (34m) says I'm lying when I'm not?

To get this started, we've been married almost a year and are currently expecting our baby due very soon.
Some background on the both of us, is we both come from toxic relationships where the both of us have been cheated on by past partners. A little bit more on my end, is I escaped an abusive marriage quite a few years ago and am thankful I am still here.
Before I get into the issue at hand, I do want to say that my husband is very attentive and caring in just about every aspect. He's very loving and gives his all. Which is why I get so confused when these situations pop up..
The beginning of us being together, we talked about trust. And I have trusted him to a default with everything. I don't second guess or question, don't go through his things or phone and vice versa. We've never given reason to not trust eachother. But, I did notice early on we both have anxious attachment styles. Where we push away to see If the other will stay. He would accuse me of cheating (even tho we worked together and spent 24/7 together) and I would get overwhelmed and take off. Running away was something I did a lot to help recenter myself because I cannot process emotions very well while in a fight or flight mode. We both made strides to work on our faults, and grew together. We got married shortly after.
Since then things are good for the most part. But I've noticed if something doesn't make sense to him, i.e. where something was misplaced, and I give an "I don't know" I'm instantly the one to blame or I'm a liar. Today's encounter was us having to wake up early to go do some stuff. He comes out of the bathroom with his black tshirt and asks why its in there. I told him I wore it (since I'm largely pregnant and wear his shirts at home) and left it in there to either shower or when I changed shirts at some point to go out over the last cdays. He got mad that it "didn't make sense" because there were no other clothes in the bathroom. I told him I picked up everything either yesterday or day before when cleaning. Which still wasn't good enough answer. He swears it wasn't there yesterday and it was the shirt he threw in the dirty laundry (he has like 5 of the same colored shirt, one of which I'm currently wearing) and that I must've taken it out and put it in the bathroom. I kept telling him the same thing over and over, and finally had enough of being interrogated and just said idk. After that he gets angry about me being a liar and is just rude for the remainder of the morning before we even leave the house. Another example is he was asking where his Nike slides were (which I don't even recall him having I've only seen them once maybe) and I said I don't know. We've moved a lot of stuff around but it might be in his suitcase or bag of stuff in the car. He swears up and down its in neither place (he never looked) and says i must've moved them or given them to someone else. Like why would I give away shoes I didn't know he had? Either way, I'm being told I'm lying about knowing what happened to them.
I'm honestly so burnt out from trying to defend myself, when I've never lied to him. I've never given a reason for him to not trust me. And yet I constantly feel like no matter how much progress we make on growing our relationship, it always takes a step back because he will only ever see me as a liar to try and make sense of the stuff around him. Which really hurts, because if something doesn't make sense to me, I usually just shrug it off because plenty of things in life don't make sense. But I feel like I'm more open minded about everything... idk, I'm at a loss on how to really handle it, because at this point I want to just give up and let him think what he wants

2024.05.13 23:20 infinite8stars i miss my boyfriend

Trigger warning: some instances regarding mental health.
I recently turned 20 and also just came back to the Philippines. After graduating senior high school and turning 18, my family sent me to study abroad and complete college/university/tertiary education in Australia.
My journey there was definitely an experience. I basically had to learn how to fend for myself in almost every aspect. There, I lived with an aunt that I was close with growing up. She happily provided for me the basic necessities like food and a place to stay, but every other expense I needed like transportation, tuition fees, savings, tax, bills, were all up to me. I made some friends along the way and grew close with some of my relatives there, but there were still those days where I felt so alone and I couldn’t bear the stress, pressures, and expectations of adulting in a completely different place and society pretty much on my own. My mental and emotional health was already low at the time, but having a strained relationship with both parents that never got resolved before I left, intensified the feeling of loneliness and the pressure to be independent. It was already a given that everything there was going to be difficult, but I was also so lonely all the time, until I met him.
We met on Tinder and thankfully when we matched, he was the one that initiated the first move. Our first conversation went by smoothly and we had out first date a week after that. After a couple months of dating and seeing each other, I asked him if he would be willing to enter a serious relationship with me, and much to my delight he agreed. I’ve never felt that way towards anyone before. I’ve had my fair share of intimate interactions ranging from failed talking stages to regular friends with benefits, but I eventually developed thick skin and lowered my expectations that none of those will lead to anywhere meaningful and long-term.
As always, there is an exception to every rule, and that was him. He showed me love like I have never received before. He’s always there when I need someone to talk to. He always reassures me that I’m doing my best despite the struggles of adulting in a new country. He’s always there to console and comfort me when I couldn’t take life anymore. He’s always there whenever I need to vent all my problems and stresses away. He’s always so patient and understanding with me whenever I have anxiety attacks or when I start to spiral downwards and lose control. He also always reminds me that I’m attractive despite all my insecurities. In short, he filled that empty void that I needed for the longest time. Someone to be there with and for me. Someone to love me and never leave me despite how difficult it gets.
We were pretty much in a very healthy relationship until one day I received news from my family that I’ll have to abruptly stop my studies abroad and return to the Philippines. I won’t delve anymore into the specifics of that because that’s a completely new story, but obviously, and for many reasons, the decision ruined me. It took me two months, a lot of tears, and dozens of hours of calls with people just to come to terms with what was going to happen to me. Despite being only a relatively short amount of time, I managed to build and maintain a life there. I have friends and a social life there. I had a part-time job that paid well and I enjoyed most of the time. I became close with some relatives there. I had complete freedom away from my parents like an adult. I had a clear path of what I’m going to do with my future. And most important of all, I had him.
It’s already a given that we both didn’t take it well at the start, but we also went through the difficult journey of accepting that I’ll have to leave eventually. We agreed to see each other as often as our schedules and finances would let us before I needed to leave. But it was also such a bittersweet experience. From then on, every moment I get to share with him, every time I get to hold his hand, every instance we share a kiss, every second I get to look at his handsome face was suddenly significantly more meaningful and precious, but at the same time, also grim and tragic, because at the back of all of those moments, we knew that our days are numbered.
Somewhere along the way of coming to terms with me leaving, we agreed to enter and maintain a long-distance relationship until we can be reunited again with my goal of moving back to Australia. Which brings us to where we are now. Over 5000 kilometers and 2 timezones apart, but still chatting on a near-daily basis and calling each other more than once a week. We also agreed that he’d come visit me here when he can, but he has to sort out a lot of stuff with his own life beforehand, and I completely understand and trust him that he’ll still make the effort to see me. I really miss my boyfriend. The sheer longing to feel him next to me and make more memories together makes me so depressed late at night. It’s so hard not being able to physically be with him now, but still, I love him ever so deeply, and despite it being difficult, I want to commit to doing my part to maintain and progress our relationship, just like how he does his part for us.

2024.05.13 23:18 Pinchaser71 Forever tomato cages (for larger gardens)

Forever tomato cages (for larger gardens)
For as long as I’ve been gardening I’ve had tomato cages like these that I made. Every year I get countless people asking me where I got them. Well… I technically didn’t GET them anywhere, I made them. I only made them once before and they lasted for decades.
Unfortunately, we moved a few times over the years and that aren’t exactly something you’re going to throw in a moving truck with your furniture. Plus they’d take up a lot of room in a truck. Needless to say they were left behind. I wouldn’t be surprised to find them still there.
Moving forward to now, 15 years later I’m finally in an appropriate home to start over with what will likely be my finally batch I’ll ever need. I’m including a how to with photos if you’d like to make these for yourself. I figured since so many people ask me locally, maybe you all in this subreddit may appreciate it.
What you need: “Concrete reinforcement mesh” rolls, bolt cutters, needle nose pliers, several heavy bricks (pavers, cinder blocks) or other heavy objects, gloves and safety glasses.
Photo 1. Here is a roll of “Concrete reinforcement mesh” purchased from the local hardware store as shown. It’s basically a roll of rusty steel wire. This is a 50’ roll which will make exactly 10 cages. It comes in 50,100,150 and 200 foot rolls. 200’ rolls will require 2 people to move it, this stuff is HEAVY! Pro tip: if you’re throwing this in a van/SUV be sure to bring a crappy blanket to lay down inside, unless you want rust on your interior.
Photo 2: Roll out the mess on a flat surface and hold it down with the bricks. Otherwise it will roll back up on you.
Photo 3: Count 10 square holes from the end lengthwise. Approximately 5’.
Photo 4: using the bolt cutters (or good strong wire cutters), start cutting each wire across as shown. Make sure to cut each wire equal length all the way down trying to get as close to flush as you can.
Note: Keep a couple pavers handy until you get to the last few wires to cut. Place one on the side that your cutting off and one on the roll side. The wire will want to roll up and you don’t want to get cut, scratched or poked when it springs back! Obviously the tighter it’s round the more it’s going to want to unroll and spring up. Just please use caution as right now you have freshly cut sharp ends of rusty springy wire that will mess you up! If not, I hope your Tetanus shot is up to date!
Photo 5: This is what it should look like when you’re finished with your cuts. You should now have a 5’ x 5’ square of the wire mess with 3 flat sides and 1 with cut wires.
Photo 6: using your needle nose pliers, bend the end of the wires you just cut to form hooks. Try to get them all uniform in size so your length stays consistent, you’ll see why in photo 8 & 9.
Photo 7: using the bolt cutters, start cutting one of the flat sides off as shown, similar to what you just did cutting it to length.
Photo 8: This is what the side should look like when you’ve finished cutting off the flat side. You should now have a 5’x5’ square piece of wire mesh with two flat sides, one side with hooks and one side with straight cut wires.
Photo 9: Now evenly roll the side with the hooks to the opposite end and place a couple of the hooks on the end. It will form a circle. When a couple are secured now you can stand it on the end you cut off in photo 7. With it standing, secure the remaining loose hooks around the end wire as shown. If you didn’t make your hooks uniform length as stated then you’ll be having issues on this step. If they are too short or uneven they won’t reach or make your cage not round.
Photo 10: using needle nose, squeeze the hooks closed all the way down so the wire can’t slip out. It takes a bit of force to close them. When they are closed, this is what they should look like.
Photo 11: Once all the hooks are closed you notice the cage is rather egg shaped. Lay it on its side with the hooks on the bottom and simply pressed down like you’re going to flatten it. All you’re trying to do is make it round instead of egg shaped.
Photo 12: once its round you can safely stand it back up standing on the cut off end.
Photo 13: Take it to your garden and place it where you’d like
Photo 14: Once it’s where you want it, simply step on the bottom wire and the cut wires will easily sink into the ground holding it in place.
Photo 15: TADA! You now have a 5’ high about 18” diameter tomato cage. It will last you virtually a lifetime. They don’t blow over from wind once you stick them in the ground. They certainly don’t bend easy like this expensive cheaply made flimsy funnel shaped ones you can buy. The 6”x6” holes give you very easy access to pick your tomatoes and to pluck weeds from around your plants. My tomato plants always loved these cages and grew up tall and strong from many years.
Storage of the cages is the one downfall. You could of course keep them in place in the garden all winter if you choose. Otherwise you can stack them with them laying on their side. Obviously since the ends are rusty steel spikes, you may want to stack them with that end butt up to a fence out something where nobody will be walking behind the stack getting shanked.
The alternative is instead of cutting these with the hooks like I do, you could instead cut them flush and hold them together using zip ties. In the fall you could just cut them off and stack the 5’x5’ squares of flat mesh. It’s up to you but not my preferred method as zip tires like to break and get brittle from the weather.
Anyway, hopefully you guys like these tomato cages. I also hope my instructions are clear. It’s easy to think they are when you’re there who knows what you are doing, more difficult when you not. If you have any questions please ask. Also, if you like these and make them, let me know!
Two last things... Avoid bending the wires you are using as spikes sticking in the ground. Bending them too many times will break them off! On the upside, if you break them off you can always cut another row off the bottom and you’re good as new. You’ll just lose 6” in height.
Second, you can make these cages for other plants like peppers, eggplants or whatever too. You’d likely make them narrower half the height. For tomatoes, these are the perfect size for spacing the plants out and height wise.

2024.05.13 23:18 sa5mmy How to stop biting

How to stop biting
Hi all I really need some advice as I’m at my wits end right now. I have a 11 week old Staffy maximus, he’s very slowly getting potty training and knows fair few commands like sit, lay down, paw, bed and wait just the basics at the moment, but the issue is biting and he bits hard me and my partner are covered in cuts and bite marks because he just attacks and doesn’t stop until he can’t reach you even then he will cry until he is able to reach you. I know he is young and still learning but it seems like we can’t do anything with him without being bit. I’ve reach point where I don’t want to be around him or play with him because of how much he is hurting me 😞 I’ve added video of what he gets like now this video was in first week and because I was getting a videoing I couldn’t do much to stop him but you can see how I show him toys and he just not interested just wants to bite me and will keep going like that, he gets worse when he tried so we been putting him down for more naps like sleeps most of the day naps with hour or less between them for play/food/toilet. I just don’t know what we doing wrong and I just want to do what’s best for him. I’ve broken down to my partner multiple times because I’m so overwhelmed and I hate myself for saying this but right now I’m regretting getting him, I keep being told it gets better and it’s worth it in the end but I just don’t see it right now. He is our second dog and our first is was nothing like this, I’ve never known a dog so obsessed with biting people, he kept trying to bit vet when he got jabs done and when people come over to meet him he tries biting them as well. Please help
so far we have tried sending him to bed, staying still (that hurt a lot) telling him no, moving away, redirecting to toys, pet corrector spray, giving more naps, not giving any attention moment he bits, moving him away from us, yelping, more toys with different textures, frozen carrots in case it’s his teeth, currently learning leave it but doesn’t work when he biting us, he is crate trained, picking him up work for couple days but moment out down he will continue, we are now looking into a trainer as well

2024.05.13 23:18 tss1029 I’m falling for a guy 22 years older than me, what do I do?

So yeah, pretty much what the title sounds like. I (21 M) have been going through a bit of a “hoe phase” for the past month or so with guys off of Grindr. Right now, there’s this guy (43 M) that I’ve been seeing and I’m starting to really get attached in a way I didn’t expect. We’ve been texting every day all day for a couple weeks now, we’ve hung out, gone out to dinner, and it’s been really nice every time I’m with him. We have a lot in common, both in and out of the bedroom. I’m trans and this is the first cis guy I’ve met willing to respect my identity and go out of his way to make me feel comfortable. (A low bar, I know) I’ve spent hours with him and it didn’t even feel like time was passing. Not to mention the sex is phenomenal. Every so often he’ll bring up the fact that we’re fuck buddies, or that this will all come to an end at some point, and it makes me honestly sad to think about. I don’t really want this to be over any time soon. But I also know that the age gap is pretty big between us. And I honestly don’t think I’d spend the rest of my life with this guy, but I don’t want to lose him just yet. Is that selfish? I don’t want to stop him from finding someone just so he can mess around with someone half his age, and he’s said before he’d understand if I told him I started dating someone. But I don’t find myself wanting that right now. I just wanna spend my free time with him. I don’t know what to do, or where this is gonna go from here. I personally don’t care about the age difference between us. But I’ll probably never actually say any of this to him. I’m too scared of pushing him away or something. Our relationship is mostly sexual so I really can’t tell if he genuinely just wants something short and fun or if he wants something a bit longer lasting. I can tell this guy all my kinks but the second it comes to how I’m feeling I shut down. I’ve always seen age gap couples and thought the guys a creep no matter the circumstances, now I’m not so sure. He doesn’t really like when I bring up my age, if anything I think he’s more freaked out about it than I am. Which is another reason why I won’t tell him any of this. Once he asked if I’ve told anyone about him, when I said yes his follow up question was if I told them how old he was. When I said yes he seemed genuinely shocked, like he’d expected to be kept a secret. But I like him, a lot, so I talk about him sometimes. I have a feeling he doesn’t talk about me much, but nothing I can do about that. TL;DR I’m falling for a guy double my age, he keeps calling us fuck buddies and I don’t know if that’s what I want

2024.05.13 23:18 Weathers_Writing I had really bad stomach cramps as a child. They recently started up again.

Content Warning:Mentions of Child Abuse & Gore
They called me a colic baby, meaning I was a seemingly healthy baby that was distressed for an unknown reason. The fits of crying mostly dissipated by six months, but they'd crop up every now and then into toddler-hood. When I became capable of babbling a few words, I would summarize my pain in a few words: belly hurt. Belly HURT!
My parents didn't have much money, but they took me to the doctor for a checkup anyway. After running a physical exam and blood test, they determined that I was merely an excessively gassy little girl and should probably eat a more gut-friendly diet. They also prescribed some medicine which would eliminate the gas and relieve my pain.
It was from that moment on that my parents gave me the nickname "Gas Girl" (which I despised). The name stuck for several years, and anytime I'd get a little stomach ache my mom or dad would say, "uh, oh. It's not Gas Girl returning, is it?" I'd glare at them with my arms folded and pout, saying, "I'm not Gas Girl. I'm Wonder Girl!" My parents would share a look, then burst out laughing. Just as I was about to shout a retort, my dad would open up his arms and bend down in that familiar pose which signaled liftoff, and all my childish rage detached like a racing sticker as I leaped into my dad's arms and he flew me around the living room shouting "Who is it? It's Wonder-girl! Here to save the day from Gas Girl!"
Anyway, just as the nickname wore off, the pain returned. I was about 7 or 8 when I had my first big episode. I was in second grade, and the class was cutting out shapes. The pain came on so suddenly I remember lurching back and falling out of my seat. The next few hours were a blur of adults: my teacher, the nurses, the principal, my parents. I remember how cold and alone I felt despite being surrounded by grown ups, and my stomach hurt so much I was crying pretty much nonstop.
My dad bought a bunch of OTC medicine to try and settle what he thought was a really bad gas episode. My mom laid at the side of my bed and did bicycles in the air with me. Hours passed in pain as my adolescent imagination conjured up images of an evil little elf blowing thousands of bubbles in my belly. I consciously pictured myself popping them, but every time I did, more were blown. My dad scheduled a doctor's appointment for the next morning, and my mom stayed at my side until I was able to fall asleep sometime late in the night.
I dreamed vividly a horrific nightmare. I was strapped to a black, metal box. A surgeon donning blue scrubs with white gloves and a mask entered the space in my peripheral vision. The air was cold but crisp, as if every bit of dust had been scrubbed out of existence. I could feel my breathing, my heartbeat, even my skin. The doctor stepped forward and I could see the distortion of a smirk in the folds of his mask. I expected him to say something, to tell me what he wanted, but instead he lifted my shirt so my belly was exposed. "It's cold", I said in a mumbly voice. He lifted his hand in the air, and I saw behind it off in the back of the room was what looked like the glass wall of an aquarium. I was confused for a second, but only a second. The surgeon plunged his hand into my stomach like a spear, splitting through the flesh as if it were the skin of a ripe fruit. The previously silent man began to cackle like a maniacal villain as I nearly passed out from the pain. I felt his fingers swimming through my guts like parasitic worms. My body shook as cold sweat and blood began to ooze from my pores. I wanted to scream but I couldn't make a sound. I could only lay there, paralyzed, as the evil doctor explored my insides.
Somehow I lost consciousness in the dream, but when I woke up, the memory came flooding back, and I screamed with all the force of a thunderstorm. My parents skipped the appointment and rushed me to immediate care, but by the time we arrived, the pain was gone. I explained my dream to the doctor, but he said it was normal to dream up reasons for the pain. They recommended a CT scan to screen out the possibility of an ulcer or internal bleeding. Despite my parents' scarce savings, they agreed to run the test. However, something deeply entrenched in my mind thought of the dream with the surgeon and I protested. "I don't want a test!" I screamed. "But, honey, how are we going to know what's wrong?" replied my mom. "Nothing's wrong now. I don't want a test."
Looking back now on my persistence, it should have been obvious that there was something wrong with me, but my parents, who were thinking of their finances, allowed themselves to acquiesce to my demands. The pain would continue into and throughout my teenage years, and the one benefit that I can credit to it was that it taught me how to endure pain and hide it well before puberty started. Compared to my childhood cramps, period cramps were around a B+. Very bad, but not end of the world bad. However, they'd stick around more reliably, and eventually the two began to combine until I could no longer discern between them. Occasionally I would have a nightmare and wake up with a pain that was a little higher in my stomach, almost approaching my chest, but it would always disappear by breakfast time, and the chaos of a teenage girl's life would once again reassert itself in the form of an outfit that didn't look quite right or the memory of every word of a conversation with a guy I liked or how my teacher was out to get me. Basically, I had become normal.
And then two weeks after I turned 16, my dad passed away from heart failure. Apparently the stress from a paycheck-to-paycheck life in sales added onto a bad diet and a penchant for alcohol was a recipe for disaster. He was only 49. I was crushed.
The weeks and months following his funeral were filled with teenage anger and resentment. I directed most of it at my mom, who I held accountable for not being strong enough to step up and help with the bills. One day, when I was searching the drug cabinet for some painkillers to deal with some bad cramping, I noticed a new prescription for a drug with a really long name. I looked it up. It was an antidepressant. From that moment on I stopped giving my mom shit, but I grew a bit distant from her. I started spending a lot more time with my friends. I became reckless, adopting a drinking habit and unsafe sex practices. I smoked a bit but I didn't really like it. I guess I was just trying to find a way to move on, as naive as it was.
Fast forward to my present situation, and I'm a college student. A junior to be exact. I ended up scrounging up enough money from working two restaurant jobs to see a therapist on my own dime, and managed to make peace with my mom before leaving. We both talked out all of our trauma and cried together, and from that moment on, I haven't had a drink. About six months ago I got on the pill. I was starting to see one guy consistently and I wanted to be safe, but also I wanted to know what it felt like to not have stomach cramps anymore. It was freeing. I remembered my dad lifting me up into the air as a child, and I figured it kinda felt like that. I still cry thinking about him, although I don't let anyone see.
Anyway, about a week ago I started having really bad pain again, but this time it was in my chest. I would wake up in my apartment (I share a 3-bedroom with some friends from the college) with heart palpitations. My heart felt like a snake had wrapped around it and was trying to choke it out. The pressure would give way to a burst of fast ba-dum's, then settle, then start again. I remembered my dad's prognosis and started to get really scared, so I scheduled an appointment with the on-campus doctor for the next day through the online health platform.
They told me that chest pain is no joke and scheduled to have me scanned at a nearby hospital. This was four days ago. My boyfriend, Kevin, drove me there even though I said I'd be fine going alone. I think I already knew our relationship wasn't going to work out long term, so I was kind of checked out. I felt bad about it though because Kev is actually a really good person, but our personalities just don't match. He's very introverted and doesn't like to go out, whereas I thrive in group settings. Anyway, he drove me and I ended up getting an X-ray. The doc came in to share the results and I was immediately put off by the dubious expression on his face.
"What do you mean the images are blurry?" I asked.
"Well, it's just… that. They're blurry. It's very unusual for this to happen unless you have a pacemaker or some other device implanted. Do you know if you have something like that?"
"No, never," I said with a quaver in my voice. For some reason I thought back on my childhood dream with the surgeon and felt the urge to vomit.
"Well, let's run a CT scan and see if we can make anything out." He soothed.
Normally the CT and MRI dock was booked for a week out but the doctor happened to have an open space for me that same morning, so I waited about an hour and then got in the big tube machine that took pictures of my chest and abdomen. He said he should have the results by Thursday. That was Yesterday.
I was driving onto campus for my 9AM class when I got the call.
"Hello, this is Dr. **** calling for Josie **** ." (names redacted for privacy reasons)
"Oh, yes, this is Josie," I said and fit the phone between my shoulder and ear as I tried to find a comfortable posture."
"Yes, hello," the male doctor said in grave way which made me feel like this wasn't going to be a short call. "I wanted to see if you were available to come in today for some more tests."
"More tests?" I asked. "What about the first ones?" Images of blocked heart valves and cancer presented themselves on my mental screen.
"Yes, well, I wanted to discuss the results with you in person. There was a bit of a … well, an inconsistency, and I didn't want to upset you—"
"Upset me!?" I blurted, my free hand flying out over the steering wheel, swerving my car toward the curb. I corrected, then lowered my voice, "sorry, I don't mean to be …" be, what? This is completely absurd. "Could you at least give me some indication of what's wrong with me? I'm just kind of panicking here."
The doctor was quiet for a moment, then returned. "Sorry, Josie, I didn't mean to spook you. Both the X-ray scan and CT scan are picking up interference which is unusual. It's possible it's just a flaw on our end, so that's why we wanted you to come back in—to do an MRI and really verify what the issue is. This one would be free of charge and we'd get you results same-day as we feel bad about the issues with the machinery. Do you think that would be possible?"
I took a deep breath. I still felt uneasy, but at least now there was some kind of explanation I could lean on. "Okay, yeah, I can come in. I have class until 9:50AM, but I can drive over after and be there around 10:15, 10:20-ish. Would that work?"
"That would work great. We'll see you then."
I spent the whole of my communications class thinking about what could be wrong with me, doodling my ideas down on a notebook. Heart disease. Cancer. Some kind of peptic ulcer. Maybe it was the pill? The drinking? Was this some kind of cosmic retribution? I didn't know.
An hour later I was back at the hospital. I expected to be ushered into the MRI prep room, but instead I found myself in one of the normal patient rooms, sitting upright on a bed. The nurse did the preliminary height and weight measurements and medical history. I asked about the MRI, but all she said was that the doctor will discuss that with me. Before she left, she handed me an assessment to fill out. It seemed to be a list of questions about the medical history of my family, specifically about our mental health. Does your family have a history of Schizophrenia? Have there been any instances of domestic abuse? Did you have vivid nightmares as a child? Etc. I marked the boxes, then set the clipboard down.
At last I heard the fated knock on the door, and my doctor came in holding an Ipad. The door was only open for maybe a couple seconds, but I could see multiple nurses and technicians peeking their heads in my direction, as if they were trying to catch a glimpse of me. That can't be good.
"Hello, Josie," the doctor said and clicked on the little TV screen. He didn't even look at me. I could see dried sweat along his hairline.
"What's happening? I thought I was going to get an MRI…"
"Well, actually we aren't sure if that's the best course of action." the doctor said as he clicked the screen and pulled up a series of images.
"Can you look at me, please?" I snapped.
The doctor raised his head and tilted it in my direction. His mouth was agape, his eyes wide as if only realizing I was here at that moment. "I'm sorry, Josie." He took a deep breath, preparing some kind of canned presentation, then let it out and said, "It's just easier if I show you." He pulled up the first global image from what I presume was my CT scan. It was a front-shot. I could see my organs as little geometric shapes and—
"Wait, what is that?" I asked, pointing at the screen.
"That—is the problem."
I spent the next minute just staring at it. Somehow, in between all of the organs, there was some kind of cylindrical mass—I thought it was my spine at first but quickly realized it was too wide and there weren't any vertebrae—and at the head of the mass was, very clearly, a hand.
"What the fuck is that" I said in a tone that was at once forceful and pointed.
"It appears," the doctor started, looking away again. "It appears that there is a mechanical hand in your chest cavity. It's attached to a piece of a forearm that begins at your stomach, here," he pointed, "and continues up until, well, it appears to be holding your heart."
Ten seconds passed in silence. Then I was hit with the equivalent of the laughing gas they give you at the Dentist's office. All the blood in my body surged to my forehead and I felt light as the very thin hospital air. "Hahaha!!! You expect me to believe that? What kind of fucking clown-show hospital is this? Am I at the circus?' I stood up and started toward the door. The doctor body blocked me.
"Please, Josie, that isn't it."
"Oh?" I said sarcastically. "Please, do tell."
"Could you have—oh, okay, okay,, let me explain."
I stood there with my arms folded, unrelenting.
"When we first had you do the X-ray there was a big blur. It was clear that something was blocking us from seeing the image. The CT scan was able to take some actual pictures of it. I know it seems, well, unusual—"
"Wait, what the hell is that?" I asked, gesturing toward the clipboard.
"What?" The doctor looked disoriented.
"Those questions. Are you trying to insinuate that my mom and dad implanted some kind of mechanical hand in my body?"
"No," the doctor raised his hands. "We were just trying to gather some more information… Josie," the doctor said as I once again headed for the door handle. "Please, there's more. From the blood test we conducted it seems that you're pregnant."
I was so done. "I'm on the pill, asshole." I sneered and swung the door open, ignoring the sets of eyes trained on me as I scurried to the end of the hall, ran outside, and climbed into my car. I expected to see a bunch of people in white coats running after me, but there was no one. I started the car as tears began to stream from my eyes. Fuck them, I thought and sped out of the parking lot.
I couldn't return to my apartment. I ended up driving for hours, working my way back to my hometown. I spent a long time thinking about all the things I had experienced growing up. The stomach pain, slowly working its way up to my chest. The vivid dream of the surgeon feeling around my guts. Was it really that crazy to think my body was trying to tell me something? Why had I decided against having a CT scan all those years ago? Why now? I didn't—couldn't believe what was happening to me. But was that just because I didn't want to believe it?
And then there was the pregnancy. I was definitely on the pill. I knew it wasn't Kev's, or at least I was pretty sure it wasn't. We haven't been having sex for a little over a month now. But did that mean that something else didn't impregnate me? My paranoia was at its peak. I considered the possibility that maybe it was me that was Schizophrenic. None of this made any sense. I wanted my dad. I missed him. I considered going to see my mom, but despite making up with her, I still didn't feel close enough to her to own up to everything. I wanted to be alone—needed to be alone.
I ended up getting a Motel about 10 minutes away from my house. It was around 1AM when I finally opened the door to my room and laid down on the bed. After hours of thinking, a single thought occurred to me like a kind of defense mechanism: if I really am pregnant, I'm not keeping the baby. I want it out.
Just as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard the notification sound go off on my phone, which was odd since I was sure I had set it to vibrate. I turned and grabbed it, unplugging it from its charging dock. I had received a text message from an unknown, 5-digit number: 66669. This is what it said.
66669: If you terminate my baby, I will crush your heart.
***
I haven't been able to sleep since. It's now 6AM and I've drafted this as a cry for help. Please, let me know what you think I should do. I'm too "in it" to see the details clearly. I feel alone and scared and paranoid. Someone or something is watching me. Maybe it has been my whole life.

2024.05.13 23:17 Reasonable-Use-9294 A review about the flawed masterpiece that COTE is by me :D

Finally i've finished reading every volume and, as someone who loves writing, here i am writing this review just to share my thoughts.
So, it's undeniable that COTE is edgy as hell. Just take a look at Tsukishiro randomly talking about a guy he just killed, BUT at the same time i feel like it makes sense for the series to have edgy elements when you consider the target audience and the elements the story has. It's not an happy story if you dive deep enough in it and can be rather depressive at times. Either way it's better to fully embrace the edge and just enjoy the series how it is since it's a very enjoyable story if you turn off your brain
The characters are what i think is the main appeal of the series. The cast is huuuuuuge as frick and most of the characters, while not very developed, are each flashed out on their own way, which makes them and their interactions with others very enjoyable and fun to read. Just look at a character like Kito who went from a random dude with a scary face to a full-ass character in y2v8 who was a blast to read alongside his interactions with Ryuen. We have the same with other characters like Ishizaki who went from a random Ryuen's pawn to a whole bro, Sudo who went from the everage short-tempered guy to a chad and Ibuki who went from a girl with anger issues to still a girl with anger issues but entertaining to read with her intractions with Horikita and sometimes Kushida. I won't call the cast deep or amazingly written. The only characters who have a superior level of writing are probably Koji and Ryuen but even they aren't that amazing, but that's okay. You don't need to write Guts 2.0 to make an enjoyable character. But now, alongside the characters, two problems surface. One about the community and one about the author. The first one, the one about the community, is that people seem to care only about feats. No one is gonna talk about a character who doesn't outsmart everyone in a single volume just for him to get humbled by Koji five seconds later. And this is what i consider to be an huuuge problem. I get that they are less amazing inside the story but if they're fun to read then aren't they good characters? I get the shit with Yagatwink because he had a disastrous end but with the rest? Why call Nagumo a fraud in the end? The way he lost made sense with his character. I feel like the fact that people only care about feats is what makes more minor characters Kanzaki, Hashimoto or heck even Matsushita, Ibuki or Morishita to be less talked about. I get it when a character is straight up annoying like Ichinose, Yagatwink, Airi, Yagabitch, Ecchinose, Yagamid or Ichinose but the rest feels a bit unnecessary. The second problem lies in the author and his inability to focus on one character properly. I like a large cast, and it's normal not to develop every character but it doesn't make sense to have important characters like Ichika, Kei or even Fuka to not get development because they're important to the story and are even fam favourites. Ichika was abandoned and was left to be a simp, while there was an huge room for development when it comes to her inability to make friends. Kei will probably develop in year 3 but for now she's an NPC and Kiryuin sadly has few appearances and don't get me started on the first years. I'll leave characters like Ishigami, Tsubaki and Koenji out of the picture because it makes sense for them to be a mystery at this point in the story
I shall avoid talking about fanservice because i want to preserve the few mental stability that i currently have
COTE also does a good job with its antagonists. While sadly year 2 was a bit lacking with Tsukishiro amd Yagami, the rest were great. Ryuen was a threat and you wanted to see him continue and take Koji out in the open and GOSH that fight in y1v7 was amazing even in the light novel. Arisu was great with more of an anti-hero type of character? She'll clearly have more screentime as a villain in y3 but for now she still did a great job. Then we have Nagumo who, at least for me, was defeated almost perfectly for his character and it was even sad. You can see the difference from Nagumo in the beginning and in the end. Then there are other characters who will probably become antagonists. The one i'm looking forward the most is clearly Koenji, who's probably better than Koji physically, and could leave a mark. Then there's Ishigami who will absolutely be an antagonist even if not for long and they better not mess that up or istg. Then Tsubaki, the one who probably has the lowest chances to be an antagonist but someone who could still be interesting to see. And then Horikita who will be almost 100% an antagonist for Koji if he ever switches classes. Then there's Atsuomi who i don't wanna talk about because he's a bit disappointing unless he really doesn't wanna Koji to be expelled
I won't really focus on the special exams, not because they're bad but because even today i still don't understand how 90% of them work so bear with me
Going back to character interactions, i feel like that's something the anime, or at least season 1, kinda nailed. S1E7 is one of the main proves of this. I felt as if the pool scene was better in the anime (fanservice excluded) than in the light novel. That was one of the few times i felt the characters mostly acted like kids who wanted to have fun (fanservice excluded) and that small and faint smile they gave to Koji, even if technically nonsensical and not canon, felt great and feels even better the more i read and come to understand him more. Same thing for the time he smiled in y2v10. That scene was very short but it felt amazing to read nonetheless. Character interactions are also the reasons why i love volumes like y1v8, y2v8 or some scenes in the .5 volumes. They just feel fun to read. Seeing Koji skiing with Kushida and Ryuen, even if they wanna see him in the ground and then take a selfie on his grave, felt great and even more after reading about Ryuen chuckling after seeing Koji fall. Or even the scene with Arisu and Koji eating the cake, something so simple but great to me
Now i'd like to talk a bit about Koji's character because he's probably the deepest and most well written in the series. Due to the anime, those yt videos and the Ayanokoji wannabe he became the epitome of the "oh my god he's literally me" and the average edgy character, which i find to be horrendous. I like the jokes about that but i can't stand when one is serious. We all know Koji's main motive in that school is probably just live a quiet life in peace just like a normal high schooler and when you stop and think about him... Goddammit his story is depressing. He never had a normal childhood and he developed a toxic mindset while being in the WR which ruined his life. He's so depressed and traumatised he can't even smile properly and his normal and mundane happy life is constantly ruined by troubles and sabotages by his father (if he really wants to expel him). I know he clearly doesn't have a problem with any of that because he's perfect and all, but having to deal with all of that consistently must suck even for him. Dude can't catch a break and i won't be surprised if we see him breaking at some point in the story (something i'm looking forward to). I just want someone to defeat him just so his father could leave him the fuck alone
Now that we're here, i think i can finally end this. It was short, yeah, but it was fun. COTE is what i consider to be a flawed masterpiece due to the way it keeps you reading but also make you question what the author is doing at times. It's good but it's also bad and i expected much worse in y2. There are obviously many disastrous nitpicks in the series. Ichinose is a whole damn example, but other than those problems, this series is amazing to me. But maybe i have written all wrong stuff and i've completely missed the point in the story, but i don't mind viewing it like this. It's a fun story that i hope won't fall from grace

2024.05.13 23:17 KyleKKent OOCS, Into a Wider Galaxy, Part 002

~First~
(Got up Early to talk about the CPAP machine and such. Only to be given an appointment on friday. So yeah, in trying to solve a sleep issue I’m giving myself more of one. Incidentally Friday will be late due to well, the CPAP retrieval and tutorial)
The Pirates
“So, they’re here.” Agenda says contently as she finishes feeding her fussiest little girl.
“Yep!” Jingay chirps happily as her freshly hatched little children are happily playing on the glowing, shimmering platform that her rattle has brought to life. She can’t do anything complicated, but a soft shiny platform for her little slithers to play around in? She can do that, but it takes some focus. The tiny fluffy child of Vuni is cuddling the strong Jungle Nagasha tail that wraps around her own tail.
“How formal a call do you think we should make?” Miles asks in an amused tone.
“Not especially, after all the babes ensure it will never be properly formal, they’re too happy and healthy.” Agenda notes.
“I blame you for that.” Miles says and Agenda laughs.
“If you don’t want the blame I’ll take it.” Vuni remarks.
“You’re just as guilty.” Miles says and Vuni laughs in response.
“What’s going to happen?” Jingay asks and Miles is pensive for a moment.
“I don’t know.” He notes as his hand gently rubs the handle of his revolver. The constant rubbing had necessitated him re-burning the names of his family back into it. “But no amount of waffling about will let me know. So if you don’t mind. I’ve been... getting something a little ready.”
“Is this what you’ve been sneaking around to do for the last three days?” Agenda asks.
“Something like that. It’s a bit of a treat I wanted to give you girls so... care to join me?” He offers.
“What have you done?”
“Me and the boys got together a great big feast so that we can all talk The Inevitable at once. It took a bit of doing, but when the boys and I get moving, we really get moving.”
“Are you including Red Squadron and Biran in that?”
“And a lot of cadets too. Markus gave them a proper mission in setting up the area.” He says.
“How is that a mission?”
“It involves deploying a military force to secure and prepare an area for higher ranking officers to approach and remain there for a time.” Miles says before offering his hand. “There’s plenty of space for all our little ones, and for all our allies. Give them all a big impression. How does that sound?”
“Well, if you’ve been planning this for days.”
“I have. All of us have.”
“Then I suppose we HAVE to show up, don’t we?” Agenda says in a luxurious tone. “I’ll get my coat.”
•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•×•
The hall that Miles leads them to is a massive refurbished hanger that has all kinds of carpets put down, tapestries hanging from the ceiling and tables upon tables of different treats of all sorts already out. The Undaunted Cadets are all rushing around putting down more meals and treats and between the richness of the carpets, the crystal bowls and platters and expensive drinks and foods. But the sort of... scrambled way it’s been put together by the cadets lends it an earnestness that bleeds through. More important though are numerous floating platforms where a child can be safely put down and be right beside their parent.
“Oh this is a treat. I haven’t even been one of you guys for long!” A four part harmony says as Moira walks in with little Liǔ Shù napping in the arms of the four bodies that didn’t speak. The toxic little girl not only has numerous of the protective pendents on her and woven into her clothing, but is in a dark jumper that lets her bright skin stand out as if for presentation.
“Well, as their novels say, all for one, and one for all.” A new voice says as a pair of Cannidors lead in their own family. More and more and more people pour in from all entrances, many in uniform, many of them her own girls. Some of them she barely recognizes. Every single one of them that notices her looking raises a glass, nods, salutes or somehow pays their respects to her.
Her little one squirms ever so and is softly comforted. For a moment there is almost a feeling of vertigo. There was a time where all this wasn’t even a dream of a dream. She could remember the feeling. How could she forget it? The sensation of something gripping your very mind and soul and stopping you from even thinking of disobeying. Then so long trying to get things right, trying to be in control of her own destiny, before finally achieving it and learning just how hard that was. How many sacrifices and concessions she made before what seemed to be one of her final concessions... turned out to be final in the best of ways.
“Alright! We have a connection to The Inevitable! Who wants to say hello to the next batch of humans in the galaxy?” Ryu calls out.
“My Lady?” Miles asks as he smiles up at her. She gives him a raised eyebrow at that.
“My lady is it? Well then, I better live up to it.” She says.
“Connect us!” She commands and there is a cheer through the room before a massive projector uses one of the tapestry covered walls as a screen. “Good Ship Inevitable! Can you hear me?”
“We can, you are on a friendly frequency.” A man of Asian Descent says sitting stiffly in his command chair. “I am Observer Wu, sent from Earth to conclusively determine what is going on outside our corner of the galaxy. Identify yourself please.”
“I am Duchess Agenda Lilpaw! I am the ruler of the Vucsa System an Undaunted World! I greet you, because I have long learned my lesson to stay on the good side of humans!”
“Have you now? If I’m not mistaken that is a fully grown human right next to you. You look like you could take him fairly easily.” Observer Wu says in an amused tone.
She looks down to Miles before shaking her head.
“I made that mistake once. My entire ship was not enough.” She says fondly before pulling him close. “Then I was offered a deal, and he used it to help make me a duchess. So you’ll forgive me if I think humans are a good thing to have around.”
“Did he now? I didn’t realize galactic conquest was the intent of The Dauntless and her crew.” Wu notes.
“Well, as one of the conquered, I would like to say I prefer this result. After all, being able to walk about the city without a bodyguard is a welcome change of pace.” Vuni says drawing attention to herself with a slight bow. “Ambassador Vuni Luxed at your service.”
“So this world prefers to be conquered?” Observer Wu asks.
“This world was a slum at it’s best. A hellscape at worst.” Mari Horny states as the Carib woman waves to the camera. “Mari Horny. I was here to witness it all. I’ve seen slaves freed, monsters hunted down no matter what kind of power or influence they have, be they person or beast. With them I’ve seen the children I worked so hard to protect grow stronger and thrive. Doom has come to this world time after time, and they met it each time. If you’re here to observe, then observe this room! Everyone here saved, aided or inspired by the people you’ve come to evaluate! There are ten pure blooded humans in this room, but beyond it is nearly a billion souls who will vouch for them from the first to last! And so will I!”
“No need to be so dramatic ma’am. I’m an observer, not a judge. I am here to see and hear without bias or illusions. Things are odd, and odd things have happened. The governments and officials back home need to understand clearly and without any doubt. So that is why I am here. There was confusion in the first message sent back. The second furthered the confusion due to multiple parties having separate interests. I have been tested, tried and guaranteed numerous concessions and payments for an utterly neutral perspective.”
“So your word is going to be how all is, then they decide if we committed treachery.” Franklin notes as he floats up with several bundles around him, many of them laughing. “Behold this then. My children. All healthy, with myself as the only human parent. My daughters take after their mothers, my son takes after me, but has his mother’s strength.”
“He is nearly transparent.” Observer Wu notes before Franklin gives the little boy a tickle and he flickers in and out of visibility while laughing. “Most interesting. This Vucsa world of yours, before I do my research upon it, is there something you would like to say about it?”
“This is a world on the edge of Wild Space. Which means that it’s often been used in the past as a place where experiments happened.” Miles says.
“Interesting. Such as?” Observer Wu asks.
“Such as my daughter here. I am Moira Octalliry, I will cut through the details and simply state that my anatomy allowed me to be experimented on a great deal.” She says and Observer Wu looks at her oddly.
“Are you one, or many?”
“I am one, but I am eight as one.” She says. “As is my daughter, I have named her Liǔ Shù. She was a piece of myself remade to produce a weapon. She and I were both rescued. I was forgotten in darkness for thousands of years, as was my daughter. Held in a single moment in time and left to rot.”
“And... is she a weapon?”
“I am told you have creatures similar to her new ability back on your homeworld.”
“We do? What is the name of this creature?”
“The Poison Dart Frog.” She says and Observer Wu’s eyebrows go up.
“Don’t forget about the fact that we fought off that robot witch!”
“Robot Witch?” Wu prompts.
“A weapon of war created by a very large, dangerous and expansive criminal family. A death robot known as Mother Massacre.” Moira says. “So consider that. Without them going... I don’t even know what to call it, I saw the contradicting orders, without them going sane for lack of a better term, I would still be in a slowly failing stasis capsule, buried and forgotten in the darkness.”
“And so, in summation, and from the mouths of those that clearly trust them what is your opinion of The Undaunted and the humans that make it up?”
“When I was brought to this world it was as a slave, my dignity ripped from me, my home destroyed and in less than a day I had my freedom, dignity and a new home.” One of the Erumenta that Agenda cannot recognize out of hand announces.
“And my own. My whole family, those that were enslaved are freed, those that were indoctrinated into that wretched way of life have been allowed time to recover.” Biran says grandly.
“They took me in.” A smaller voice says as Karim rises up. “I’m a Hlo’Shab. Death Born. I could have reasonably only expected to have my core shattered, or shunned for my entire life. Instead I have a home.”
“And... to be Death Born means what?”
“I am a Slohb. By blood I have only one true parent. I was broken off of them far too soon and they died as I survived. Death Born. Or... well, I don’t have blood but... you get the idea right?” Karim asks.
“I understand.” Observer Wu notes. “I have more calls incoming. Is there more from Vucsa for me to see or hear?”
“Over here!” A jubilant voice calls out and the room turns to see Hewhew standing on the shoulders of Heffer to tower over everyone with the Agela’s height added to his own. “Red Five calling it in! The Vucsa Defence Fleets fly fast and proud to keep our home safe!”
The crowd around him, pilots all, throw up their right arms and cheer along with Hewhew. “Welcome to the Galaxy Observer! We’re ten tons of awesome in a two pound bag! Let’s rock!”
Observer Wu smiles as he looks around. “I look forwards to discovering the truth of things.”
“That’s the fun part of the galaxy sir, it’s so absurd we don’t need to lie.” Miles states and Observer Wu turns back to him with a smirk.
“Well, we shall see, won’t we?” He asks. “Is there anything more?”
“I take it you’re not in the mood for a display of flight prowess? We’ve been working on a new routine.” Hewhew calls out.
“Perhaps later. I have numerous calls waiting.” Observer Wu states. “Now if you’ll excuse me...”

2024.05.13 23:17 Groundbreaking-Belt8 I don’t have the patience for a 2nd

This is mostly a ramble to myself but would love feedback for similar-minded people who have made a decision about a second.
I (32F) and married to a wonderful man (35M) who is the greatest partner and dad. He takes an equal share of the household chores and I believe has an endless well of patience for our 2 year old son.
We both have intense jobs in industries we love. I work at an executive level for a non-profit and my job feels all-consuming at times. His job is very 9-5 and works mostly from home. Our lives are full and happy, and financially we can afford to live where we want with both of us working full time. Both of our industries are based here.
It’s always been “the plan” to have 2 kids and on most days when things are going well, I’m all for it and get excited about the idea. We are a solid team. But when shit hits the fan, it seems I get overwhelmed and fall apart so much more easily and need my husband’s help.
Days like today are now few and far between, but all 3 of us are sick, both my husband and I are trying to keep on top of work remotely, and our kid is a fucking nightmare. All I want to do is throw a tantrum myself - throw dishes, drive fast in my car, scream in a pillow, curse at my kid, quit my job. Of course I do none of that, I just fall apart and want to shed all the stress in my life. I feel out of control and reckless. I often wish my husband was “mama” so then my kid will want him all the time instead of me.
I’m going to therapy to try and work on this. But it just feels like I can barely handle one without being a monster most of the time. I think I am certainly a going to break with 2. Eventually, they will both be sick and both be little fucking nightmares. Eventually, I will get work calls in the middle of their tantrums and I know I’m just going to mentally break. If I have 2,maybe I should drastically alter my life and reduce the work stress which also means reducing our income (we live in a HCOL area/state).
I decided today that maybe it’s better if I try to give my all to 1 and not try to overextend myself with 2. Work is manageable with 1. My mom had 3 kids and I have so many memories of her red-faced, yelling at us to shut up, her getting pissed at our antics. And she was a sahm. I most certainly don’t have that patience for that.
Not sure what I’m looking for. My husband is so ready for a 2nd kid now but I can’t help but wonder if 2 is a good idea for my mental health and the mental healths of my children.
