2024.05.15 01:27 dhammm Owed $1280 from a sports betting app (thrive fantasy) that has not paid me in 5 months - options?

Hello,
I deposited money and made some money on Thrive Fantasy. I requested payout for the amount in my account and have now not been paid since the start of January. I recieved one email back from their “withdrawl team” in February asking for additional info. I provided it and have got nothing since. Their terms and conditions state that it should take 2-7 days to withdraw.
I am considering what options I have as I am unable to contact them and multiple other people are reporting issues with payouts. Should I chargeback my credit card? Take them to small claims court? Wait?

2024.05.15 01:23 hedd01 Charles Schwab purchased GME on margin without my permission. How is this legal?

To get things started, this is my first ever post to Reddit. So, if I miss something please work with me.
Here we go. Around evening time yesterday I went to my Schwab app and put in 2 sell orders @ market and 1 buy order @ market (GME priced around $33-35). The sell orders were going to be around $975 cash out and I decided 25 shares should be low enough to cover that spread or the order would fail due to insufficient funds. Which has happened every other time I’ve done this.
I go into work this morning and see my sell trades execute and before I can log into my account the buy order was executed. The order was 25 shares @ $63.58. My heart sank as I finished logging in. My account balance was around -$750. Meaning the order was filled on margin. I thought how could this be I’ve never had that happen nor have I allowed that option on my account. I’ve had plenty of denied orders because there wasn’t enough funding.
Freaked the F out, I immediately submitted a transfer from my account, but the damage was done as the stock slid throughout the day.
I became physically sick about it and had to sell at +$1000 loss.
Maybe I’m stupid and just shouldn’t be in stocks, but this was supposed to be around $900 to gamble with safeguards not to go over that.
I’m not looking for sympathy, but would like to understand how that is legal.
I did contact Charles Schwab reps today and they said I do not have margin on my account. But that because of the sell order there was enough for them to justify the sale. This was a total of $870 sold, but the buy order was for $1,589. How can they get away with this?
Final note and thank you for reading. I’m considering selling all my investments and leaving Charles Schwab. This just seemed too much like a rigged game.

2024.05.15 01:16 TheeKnightHawk Where can I meet with other transfems?

I love my transmasc homies with all my heart but I really think I'd benefit more from having more transfem friends in my life who are more familiar with my own experiences and who I can better relate to, but I hardly ever get the chance to meet any. I swear y'all must be masters of sleuthing around because I've meet only like 3 or 4 other transfems in the last year due to having the same classes as them but I never got around to befriending them or getting their contact info, whereas I'll meet another trans masc person every other day and now I'm surrounded by guys.
Where are y'all hiding? I need some girlfriends to hang and do fun stuff with 😭

2024.05.15 01:06 EvilBillSing What constitutes Huge - What I was told today

Had a 3 delivery gig from Home Depot today . One of the deliveries had like 100 items . Home Depot put them all in 5 separate boxes. All of the same size . Altogether the boxes dimensions equaled 82 x 22 x 15 . The gig was listed as large . I contacted support after delivery. Hoping and arguing for it to be bumped up to Huge . The support agent said in order for it to be bumped up to Huge it had to be 17 cubic feet and weigh 300 pounds or more. So I hope you can all use that info going forward .
I did get a $15 bump and they moved it up to XL . So better than nothing

2024.05.15 01:03 EJC28 Jets 2024 Draft Analysis Compilation

Round 1, Pick 11 - Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State:
NFL: Though he enters the NFL as a work in progress, Fashanu is a long, athletic offensive tackle with a lot of upside. The good thing here is the Jets don’t need him to start from Day 1, so the Penn State product can learn behind established veterans Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses.
CBS Sports: B-. He is a left tackle for the future, but also insurance if Tyron Smith can’t play the whole season. He is good in pass protection, but needs to improve his run blocking. This isn’t an all-in pick like Brock Bowers might have been.
ESPN: Not the sexy pick, but the right pick. Georgia tight end Brock Bowers would've garnered bigger headlines than Fashanu, but the need at offensive tackle trumped what would have been a luxury pick. This was general manager Joe Douglas pouring more resources into an injury-riddled line that allowed 64 sacks, including the one that ended Aaron Rodgers' season on the fourth snap. Douglas acquired veterans Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses and John Simpson in free agency, and now he has a highly skilled heir apparent at left tackle. Fashanu needs seasoning as a run-blocker, but he allowed only one sack at Penn State and was named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year. This marks the third time in the past five drafts that the Jets used a first-round pick on a lineman.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: He was not alive when The Waterboy came out.
Round 3, Pick 65 - Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky:
NFL: Some have likened Corley to "Deebo Samuel Lite" for his running back-like build and tackle-breaking ability, although he's not as dynamic a player yet as Samuel is. The Jets can use him in the Randall Cobb role and upgrade that spot, however.
CBS Sports: B. Angry WR who plays like a RB with the ball in his hands. Some route-tree experience but predominantly deployed as gadget type and showcased insane contact balance in college. Fun addition as extension of Jets run game. Just a niche type.
ESPN: The Jets have a new king -- the "YAC King," as Corley was known in college. They coveted him so much that they traded up seven spots, giving up a third-round pick (72) and a fifth-rounder (157). Rodgers gave his stamp of approval, telling Saleh via text that he's excited about Corley. He did two things exceptionally well in college: make yards after the catch and score touchdowns. From 2021 to 2023, he scored 29 receiving TDs (tied for the second most in the FBS) and racked up 2,068 yards after the catch, easily the most in the FBS. He's not a blazer (4.56 seconds in the 40), but he's a strong, violent runner, evoking comparisons to Deebo Samuel. The Jets' receivers didn't generate much YAC last season, so he should provide a needed dimension to the receiving corps. Corley is best out of the slot, but he can be used as a gadget player on screens and jet sweeps.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Round Three: If this was a MK fight someone would be a winner here.
Round 4, Pick 134 - Braelon Allen, RB, Wisconsin:
NFL: Allen is a big, fast back who might vault to RB2 behind Breece Hall eventually. There was some talk about Allen possibly landing in Round 3, so the value appears good. He's a straight-line runner but one who brings juice and force to the position.
CBS Sports: B+. Not a freaky specimen athletically but enormous RB with loads of experience. One of the youngest prospects in the entire class. Game is predicated on between-the-tackles vision and effortless power through contact. Not elusiveness or speed. Best pass pro RB in the class.
ESPN: A bit of a surprise, considering the Jets already have a terrific RB1, Breece Hall. Yes, they needed another backup to pair with 2023 draft pick Israel Abanikanda, and they opted for the 235-pound bruiser instead of a veteran free agent. Allen brings size and power to the position; he squatted 610 pounds as a freshman. He was the heaviest running back at scouting combine. His mindset: "I try to punish defenders." He befriended Derrick Henry via social media -- a pretty good resource for a "big" back. Allen rushed for 3,494 yards and 35 touchdowns in a highly productive career at Wisconsin, which has produced some fantastic running backs. His numbers dipped last season with a new coaching staff. Allen will push Abanikanda, who rushed for 70 yards as a rookie. In Hall, Allen and Abanikanda, they have plenty of speed, power and youth. In fact, Allen, who doesn't turn 21 until Jan. 20, is the youngest player in the draft.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Enjoys baby carrots and ranch as a light snack at the end of the day.
Round 5, Pick 171 - Jordan Travis, QB, Florida State:
NFL: Someone check on Aaron Rodgers! All kidding aside, this feels like an excellent landing spot for Travis, with Zach Wilson shipped to Denver and Rodgers perhaps a year or two from retirement. Travis made steady strides as a passer and leader over his five college seasons, taking care of the ball, threatening defenses with his legs and displaying the competitiveness and creativity to give him a shot.
CBS Sports: B-. Older but ascending passer who demonstrated clear improvement as a thrower during his collegiate career. Flair for the improvisational play with his legs and simply when keeping his eyes downfield after pressure mounts. Touch at all levels is good. Late-season torn ACL. Small frame with average at best arm talent but good accuracy.
ESPN: Five days after trading Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos, the Jets added a new face to the quarterback room. Travis is a long-term project, a developmental player who can learn from two wise heads, Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor. It's an ideal situation for Travis, who, like Rodgers, is attempting to return from a major injury. In his case, it was a gruesome broken ankle last November, a devastating setback that ruined a storybook college season. Travis improved last season as a passer (20 TDs, two interceptions), but he still has a way to go. He has average arm strength, but he has exceptional movement skills. As he noted, "I'm a playmaker. I make plays when everything breaks down." Naturally, his surgically repaired ankle is a big question mark. He declined to give a timetable on when he'd be ready for football activities.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Once moonwalked an entire marathon. That’s right. 26.2 miles of moonwalk.
Round 5, Pick 173 - Isaiah Davis, RB, South Dakota State:
NFL: A consistent producer at the FCS level, Davis reminded me of Tyler Allgeier a bit as a prospect. Davis also showed up against a very good Iowa defense, with 80-plus yards from scrimmage. But did the Jets need another big back? They're pretty loaded with Breece Hall, Israel Abanikanda, Braelon Allen and now Davis. I like the player, but the redundancy is confusing.
CBS Sports: C. Big, highly athletic feature back without serious top speed but nifty cutting skill at all levels of the field. Will make many defenders miss although could experience some growing pains making step up in competition. Serious feature back potential but another RB?
ESPN: Another running back on Day 3? This certainly should send a message to Abanikanda. The competition is on. Davis is an interesting pick. He absolutely dominated FCS competition, rushing for 4,548 yards and 50 touchdowns in his career. He led the FCS last season with 1,578 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. But can he make the jump to the NFL? At 6-foot, 218 pounds, he has an NFL body, but his speed (4.57 in the 40) is suspect. He came from a gap blocking scheme and will have to adjust to the Jets' zone-based scheme. He should be a terror on special teams, which is what you want out of a backup running back drafted in the fifth round.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Knows the difference between a null value and zero on a tax return.
Round 5, Pick 176 - Qwan’tez Stiggers, CB, CFL (Toronto Argonauts):
NFL: Stiggers never played college football, which is why he had to take the unusual CFL-to-the-NFL draft route. But he's a fascinating talent with clear ballhawking skills in his one year with the Toronto Argonauts, even if he's a clear project.
CBS Sports: C+. Traits and flash-based CB who still needs to learn the nuances of reading routes and understanding concepts but at times his athletic skill and size get him to the football. Twitch and speed jump out on film. Not a sound tackler right now.
ESPN: The Jets drafted three projects in the fifth round, none bigger than Stiggers, who has no college experience and played one season (2023) in the CFL for the Toronto Argonauts. He was eligible for the NFL draft because he didn't attend college. He's extremely raw, but the tools are there. He has good size (5-foot-11, 203) and ran the 40 in 4.45 seconds at his pro day. For the Argos, he recorded five interceptions and was named most outstanding defensive rookie. He joins a loaded cornerback room, led by All-Pro Sauce Gardner. Stiggers is an ideal candidate for the practice squad, where he could continue his development.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: I’m just here to remind you that the Arizona Cardinals exist.
Round 7, Pick 257 - Jaylen Key, S, Alabama:
NFL: Key has pretty interesting length for a DB and he played arguably well for Bama after transferring from UAB, but his lack of long speed likely keeps his role limited to box-safety duties in the NFL.
CBS Sports: C+. Sizable, reasonable athlete who’s best near the line of scrimmage but doesn’t play with his hair on fire. Sound tackler and will lay the lumber. Has the linear speed to run with TEs down the seam. Not a bendy mover so doesn’t stick to his responsibilities in coverage often. Average-at-best ball skills.
ESPN: Hello, Mr. Irrelevant -- the Jets' first since 1969. Key is a 6-1, 208-pound safety known for his physical style of play. He doesn't have great speed (4.6 in the 40), but his noted toughness will help him land a role on special teams. Key began his career at UAB, spending only one season at Alabama. He started 12 games for coach Nick Saban, but he didn't have much ball production -- only one interception and two passes defensed. The Jets' safety depth could have an opening or two. After incumbent Tony Adams, they have veteran Chuck Clark and career backup Ashtyn Davis.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Was drafted into the NFL and no one can ever take that away from him.

2024.05.15 01:01 CaseyOgle PROSIXC2W converter is ignoring the Calibrate button; what's the workaround?

I'm trying to add a contact sensor to an existing PROSIXC2W converter. The converter isn't cooperating. Any tips?
My home has a PROA7PLUS panel married to several PROSIXC2W converters. The converters handle an array of wired sensors located throughout the home. This setup works fine.
When the converters were installed, they had some unused zone contacts on the terminal strip. When the converters calibrated themselves, they ignored these zones. No surprise; this is exactly as documented.
But now I want to add some sensors.
I wired new sensors to those previously-unused unused contacts on the PROSIXC2W converters. Each zone circuit has a 2.2K series resistor as required. I confirmed that the sensor contacts are closed. I measure 0.475 volts each screw on the terminal strip, which is exactly in agreement with the other terminals on the terminal strip. Thus the converter should definitely see these new zones as "occupied".
But pushing the calibrate button does nothing. LED 2 is supposed to flash red for 1/2 second. It doesn't.
I have tried this many times. The converter seems to be ignoring the calibrate button.
Is this because it is currently enrolled to the panel? If so, what's the procedure for adding a new sensor to a PROSIXC2W that's already in use?
I appreciate any info. Thx!

2024.05.15 00:55 lincolngoldfinch1 How Immigration Laws Differ At The National And State Levels

How Immigration Laws Differ At The National And State Levels
There are many different immigration laws in the United States. The federal government enforces U.S. immigration laws at the national level. However, states have some authority to create rules for certain state activities related to immigration.
For example, states can pass laws related to employment, education, licensing, and state benefits for immigrants. This article will give you a general overview of U.S. immigration laws and discuss how they differ from state to state. This article focuses explicitly on Texas state immigration laws and provides examples of how they vary from other states.

Overview Of The U.S. Immigration System

The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is the main body of immigration law in the United States. The INA is a large and complex set of rules that governs everything from who can enter the United States to how immigrants can become citizens.
The INA has many different sections, each with its purpose. Some areas of the INA deal with temporary immigration, such as tourist or student visas. Other sections deal with permanent immigration, such as employment-based or family-based green cards. There are also sections of the INA that deal with naturalization, the process by which immigrants can become U.S. citizens.
The U.S. immigration system is primarily federal, meaning that the US Congress has the power to pass immigration laws, and the President can enforce those laws. However, states also have some authority to regulate immigration within their borders.
For example, states can pass laws related to employment, education, licensing, and state benefits for immigrants. States cannot pass laws that conflict with federal immigration law or that would make it more difficult for immigrants to comply with federal immigration law.

Texas State Immigration Laws

Texas has several state immigration laws that are different from other states. Here are five immigration policies only implemented in the State of Texas.
The E-Verify System
First, Texas requires all employers to use the federal E-Verify system to confirm the immigration status of their employees. The E-Verify system is an online database that allows employers to enter their employees' information to ensure they are authorized to work in the United States.
The Sanctuary Cities Ban
Second, Texas has a ban on so-called "sanctuary cities." A sanctuary city is a city that has policies in place to protect undocumented immigrants from being deported. For example, some sanctuary cities have laws that prevent police from asking people about their immigration status.
Driver’s License For Undocumented Immigrants
Third, Texas does not allow undocumented immigrants to get driver's licenses. In most states, undocumented immigrants can get driver's licenses if they meet all the other requirements for obtaining a license (such as passing a driving test).
These are examples of how Texas immigration laws differ from others. For more information about immigration laws in Texas or any other state, you should contact an immigration lawyer.

The Lincoln-Goldfinch Law Firm

Texas is not the only state with specific immigration laws. There are many other states with different immigration policies. Some states have more lenient laws toward undocumented immigrants, while others have more strict regulations.
It is essential to know the immigration laws of the state you live in so that you can comply with them. If you have any questions about immigration laws, you should consult an immigration lawyer. An immigration lawyer can help you understand immigration laws and how they apply to your situation.
If you need help understanding the immigration laws of Texas or any other state, contact The Lincoln-Goldfinch Law Firm today. 2024.05.15 00:52 rosie-skies In laws found a dog on the side of the road almost a month ago and after 3 days decided to keep it. OG owners are only now wanting to get the dog back.

My parents-in-law found a dog on the side of the road 25+ days ago. They brought it to the shelter and the shelter let them keep the dog as unofficial foster parents. The shelter told them after 48 hours, if the original owners don’t claim the dog, the dog is theirs. This dog was under fed, paws were red and enflamed, ear clipped, dirty and covered in pee, and was abandoned. They checked the microchip and it was pinged for a way out of state owner.
Well 48 hours rolls around and there was no claim. Shelter posted a picture with the dog’s picture and it was up for almost a month on Facebook. This person apparently found the post a week ago, having lived in the area a short time, and the humane society lost my in laws contact info. Today, the shelter found the info and told my in laws the original owner wants their dog back. My in laws said no we are keeping the dog, it’s been almost a month. They took care of the dog and this dog has adjusted to my in laws and they love it. The shelter then sent a sheriff to my in laws house without telling them and the sheriff says that they need to give the dog back to the owners. The shelter also said that they are “a rock put in a hard place” with this situation since they never filed official paperwork handing the dog over to my in laws.
My in laws talked to a lawyer friend and the lawyer said that in the state of NY, an unclaimed animal can be adopted out or euthanized after 7 days of no claim from the original owners. This original owner was supposed to come pick up the dog today but they “have to go to work” so they’ll be coming to get them Sunday.
I guess my question here is, is there any way that my in laws can fight for this dog? They don’t want to offer money yet to see if giving the dog back will make the person realize that it was easier not having a dog. So after a couple weeks they want to reach back out and ask if they’d be willing to sell the dog. But regardless, is there anything my in laws have going for them? They are heartbroken over this.

2024.05.15 00:51 beypazaribruh1 id opportunities with a law degree

Hi! As I’m moving towards the end of my masters degree, I came here to ask for advice. Both my bachelor and masters degrees are about law. I had some internships at law firms, hated making the rich getting richer. I had another internship in my country’s ministry of trade, I couldn’t believe my eyes how governmental it was, absolutely no contact to the rest of the world. Last internship of mine was at the UN, absolutely adored it and that’s when I realized I want to work in international development/organizations and I have been constantly applying to without much luck.
My professors have advised me to do a phd in international law -apparently more or less a requirement these days for law related jobs-, which leaves me a year to do somethings in between. I was wondering if you have any advices on what to do with a law degree and how to find some opportunities. Thanks.

2024.05.15 00:43 snookieb22 VSO REP

Before I begin if you’re going to say something along the lines of “don’t use a VSO” or anything related to trying to file through a VSO please save the commentary because that’s not what I am asking and I am aware that they suck.
I just wanted to know how you guys went about your VA claim through a VSO? Did they assign you one then from there the VSO reached out to you? Or were you assigned one and given contact info on them to reach out to them? I am asking because I signed up for a VSO (I didn’t want to) because I need help submitting my claim and I have no problem playing the long game as far as claim status goes. My issue is that I don’t know if I’m supposed to reach out to them or if they are supposed to reach out to me? It’s been two months of no communication whatsoever and the only thing it says on my profile is that I’ve been assigned a VSO but there’s no name of who it is, no contact info, and no other details whatsoever for me to figure anything out. I know I could use a VA lawyer to help but I am not interested in paying someone for that if i’m being very honest. I just want to know how I should move forward before the deadline of when I can submit my claim approaches.

2024.05.15 00:43 Fickle-Friendship-31 In Sacramento? I will give you this for you LO

I bought my Dad a Grandpad to keep telemarketers from calling him - you can set it up so that it only receives calls from people in his contacts. My sister and I added photos to it from an app on our phones, we could "face time" with him, etc. As his dementia got worse, I had Consumer Cellular turn off the dial pad - he was calling people (like his old college) over and over and over.
Anyway, he passed last week. I don't wanna mess with trying to sell this. If you don't live too far from Rocklin, I'd be happy to give it to you.
More info: GrandPad Overview (youtube.com)
You can PM me if you're interested.

2024.05.15 00:30 Temporary-Driver-772 Devil's Bargain Counter

Reflecting on 2021, truly marked the zenith of my young career. The pandemic was coming to an end, I was fresh from the hallowed halls of a prestigious but unheralded college, thrust into the corporate labyrinth where, as a mere sidekick to the big shots, I contributed to a deal of record-breaking magnitude. My modest corporate minion life was exaggerated into legend by my professors during an alumni reunion, leading to a rather embarrassing episode where I was paraded around as the poster child of their education career’s success. My parents, not ones to shy away from a bit of pomp, lauded my achievements to anyone within earshot.
But as 2022 unfurled its chaos with the epidemic, my professional life spiralled downwards as swiftly as it had risen. I was laid off, and replaced by a nepotistic hire—my boss's new mistress's nephew. During my dismal final days, my colleagues, once comrades became corporate sharks, whispers of them scheming to claim my last efforts as their own filled the empty office spaces.
Compelled by financial duress to abandon my central city dwelling, I relocated to the outskirts with two college mates, Jaz and Kath, who had similarly found themselves victims of the economic downturn. We settled into apartment 606, a unit with dubious charm, suspiciously affordable on the 13th floor of a dreary building, its corridor haunted by a flickering sensor light that was only designed to function on rare occasions. Yet, the apartment itself was surprisingly very well furnished, almost like something that jumped out from a design mag, out beating sample rooms in Ikea, boasting a spacious balcony, a living room ready for an impromptu soirée, a dining table that’s good enough to hold a banquet(became our co-working space) and a kitchen isle that became our sanctuary and curse.
When we first settled into our new abode, we discovered a trove of fine kitchen utensils, perfect for whipping up sophisticated cuisine and crafting cocktails worthy of a swanky soirée. Tucked away in the fridge, among the remnants of the previous tenants' life, was a quaint note: “The three of us really enjoyed our stay here, especially our meals and nights spent by the kitchen island. We hope you find as much joy in it as we did. Use it well.” With a casual flick of my wrist, I dismissed the note into the garbage can, oblivious to the depth of its seemingly innocuous message. Little did I know, that piece of paper was more a passing of the torch than a simple goodbye.
Our initial days in apartment 606 brimmed with camaraderie and impromptu celebrations: movie nights sprawled on the living room sofas, barbeque dinners under the stars on our balcony, and co-working sessions at the dining table, peppered with resume tweaks and contemplative conversations over cocktails. We even scored a second-hand karaoke machine, allowing me to channel my inner diva—a throwback to my musical theatre days in college and my stint as the voice of corporate presentations and negotiations at my previous job, where I was known for my resonant yet finely tuned voice.
Yet, as the months wore on and the job market remained unyielding, our early merriment slowly surrendered to a creeping anxiety. The kitchen island, once the heart of our home where laughter and shared meals flowed freely, gradually morphed into the epicenter of our collective unease, bearing silent witness to the quiet desperation settling over us.
One evening, in the suspiciously affordable yet stylish apartment, I sank into the sofa, my spirits dampened by my favorite team's disheartening loss. The mood was grim, mirroring my fears of my beloved player's potential retirement at season's end. Later, as we congregated around the kitchen island for dinner, I transformed into an impromptu sports commentator, passionately preaching about the game’s disappointing details that led to failure and my favorite player’s fine qualities. Meanwhile, Jaz updated us on a friend's melodramatic breakup, with guesses that something ugly must have happened behind the scenes. Kath, ever the culinary enthusiast, not only served up her delicious pasta but also dished out the latest celebrity gossip, each tidbit as spicy as her sauce.
The next day, during a late breakfast at the same kitchen island—our unwitting oracle—we were hit by a triple whammy of reality checks. The news of my favorite player's retirement broke, echoing my gloomy predictions from the night before. Jaz chimed in with an update that our friend had uncovered a cheating scandal worthy of its own reality TV special. And Kath, never one to be left out of the drama: her favorite celebrity was now the star of a scandal.
By the third morning, as we sipped our coffee, the newspaper slapped me with another bizarre twist. I was going through the devastating economics and politics sections, then I saw the sports section——featured an irate coach, hell-bent on convincing my favorite player to dismiss retirement plans and keep his jersey on a little longer. Meanwhile, Jaz had good news for a change: it turned out our friend's love story might have a second act after all, as misunderstandings were being cleared up. Amidst these revelations, Kath, who had been grumbling about the nearby supermarket’s inability to stock anything remotely gourmet, and hadn’t had a taste of her favorite Blue Mountain coffee since the beginning of that year, triumphantly found a can of Blue Mountain coffee, and it was on sale and therefore affordable—proof that miracles happen, and sometimes they even go on discount.
As I sat there, absorbing the serendipity of our discussions manifesting into real-world events, I couldn't help but marvel at the mysterious knack of our kitchen island. Was it merely a coincidence, or had this stylish piece of decor become the unlikely conductor of our lives symphony? One thing was certain: life in apartment 606 was never dull, and our kitchen island seemed to be more than just a place to eat—it was a place where, apparently, you could stir the pot of fate.
I decided to conduct a whimsical experiment with our now seemingly magical kitchen island. Clearing my throat theatrically, I declared, "I should be interviewed for a director position." To my sheer astonishment, the next day a headhunter rang me up, claiming I was the ideal candidate for a directorial role at a prestigious corporation in my field. Despite the other candidates possessing decades more experience which defeated me with no effort, and my own lingering self-doubt from months of unemployment, I sailed to the final interview round with the company's executives.
Upon returning to our apartment, I found Kath flaunting a chic dress from a designer brand brand she’d snagged on clearance—a little luxury courtesy of our wish-granting island. Inspired, I approached the island and cheekily requested, "Get us jobs. Something fun." Lo and behold, the following day was spent lounging and binge-watching Netflix, only to be interrupted by a call from a former bigwig at my old job. He was venturing into a more illustrious company and wanted me onboard. The informal chat that followed was a breeze, and just like that, I was back in the game with a fancier title and a fatter paycheck.
The subsequent week was a flurry of celebrations. Jaz secured a senior-level position, and Kath landed her dream job at an influencer management agency. Feeling triumphant, we decided to indulge in a night of fine dining—our first in months. That Friday evening when I went from office to restaurant, on a whim, stopped at a convenience store to grab snacks and cigarettes for our post-dinner revelry. Outside, I encountered a homeless person. After offering him a sandwich (which he traded for a cigarette instead), he took a drag, peered into my eyes, and ominously muttered, “Look, young lady, this isn’t my business, but be wary of what you wish for; everything comes with a price. Good luck and god bless you.”
His words barely registered until later that evening when a mishap occurred that seemed to underline his warning. As we enjoyed syphon coffee post-dinner, a barista accidentally tripped over Kath’s flowing dress. The resulting spill left her with first-degree burns, abruptly ending our night as we rushed to the emergency room. Though it was "just" a first-degree burn, the pain was significant enough to require several days off for Kath’s recovery. Amid the drama, I couldn't help but wonder about the cryptic caution from the man outside the store—had our fortunate streak come with a hidden cost?
We chalked up the coffee calamity to bad luck. The next month flowed smoothly: Kath's fingers healed, she returned to work, and I quickly found my groove at the new job. With all of us gainfully employed, our communal meals at the kitchen island became rare. My mornings were a whirlwind of grabbing breakfast and coffee on the go, followed by an hour's commute to a job that had me scarfing down instant noodles by nightfall, just in time for a quick shower.
As the busy season kicked in, my workload ballooned—not just from the seasonal uptick, but because I was hell-bent on proving my mettle. I quickly outshone most of my peers, and my employer, recognizing a budding overachiever, piled on major tasks, which I eagerly accepted. What started as the occasional hour of overtime soon devoured my weekends. Unpaid overtime, as the fine print in my contract gleefully noted, became my new norm. Driven by a mix of ambition and expectation, I had become the go-to young hotshot, the erstwhile record-breaker now expected to continually outdo myself.
Mentally, I was too swamped to entertain thoughts of anything beyond work, which, in a twisted way, felt like a break. Physically, however, the strain began to show. A bout of flu caught on a business trip escalated into a fever. Sick as I was, deadlines waited for no one, and I soldiered on medicated and miserable. By the time I made it home, my voice had abandoned me. Unable to utter a word the next morning, I resorted to emailing my manager about my sorry state.
That week, robbed of my voice, I mused that it was perhaps a well-deserved hiatus for my overworked vocal cords—a silent retreat if you will. But when my voice did return, it was as a raspy whisper, a shadow of its former crisp and melodious timbre. My doctor offered a grim prognosis: slight improvement might come, but the golden tones were gone for good—scarred by the relentless grind. Ah, the price of ambition—a scratchy throat as a permanent reminder of my corporate conquests.
It seemed I had unwittingly exchanged the clarity of my voice for the tumult of career success. In the midst of our domestic enchantment with the possibly mystical kitchen island, Kath unearthed the contact of a reputed psychic, hailed as the finest in the land. However, the consultation fee was nothing short of princely, and with Jaz vehemently dismissing anything that couldn't be explained by cold, hard science, she promptly opted out of splitting the bill. Kath and I, unwilling to drain our wallets on what could be mere phantasmagoria, reluctantly let the opportunity pass.
Meanwhile, I couldn’t help but notice a curious change in Jaz’s routine. She had ceased dining at the kitchen island, avoiding it as if it were cursed—or perhaps, in her view, simply out of style. The Saturday morning brought a particularly harsh twist: a murder of crows took to spiralling above our balcony, their cries as sharp as the plot of a Poe novel. We found ourselves drawn to the infamous kitchen island, lined up like the cast of a macabre play, silently praying for the birds to disperse. Kath, ever trying to restore some semblance of normalcy, offered up cups of Blue Mountain coffee. She absentmindedly inquired if I wanted cream or sugar in mine—a blunder that made me realize just how long it had been since our last coffee klatch at this very spot. My inner monologue couldn't resist a dark wish for the crows to scatter, perhaps too dark, for they began to dive bomb our balcony in a feathery kamikaze. The spectacle was enough to knock Jaz off her feet—literally—as her mug met its end on the floor. Kath, meanwhile, made a hasty retreat to worship the porcelain god, and I sat frozen, my brain offline, pondering the twisted power of our kitchen island's apparent wish-granting.
After the unnerving spectacle of crows turning our balcony into a scene straight out of a Hitchcock film, our first rational step—post-collective fainting, of course—was to summon cleaners to manage the feathery carnage. Then, still rattled but increasingly curious, we visited a psychic, who, contrary to the crystal-ball-gazer image, operated out of a posh boutique in a high-end mall and dressed more like she was headed to a fashion show than a séance. We laid bare our saga of the seemingly cursed kitchen island, complete with photographic evidence of where domestic bliss meets eerie phenomena.
The psychic introduced a term that chilled the air around us: “limbo,” the threshold between our world and the otherworldly, and she dubbed our kitchen island the "Devil’s Bargain Counter." According to her, our wishes came with a heavy and unpredictable price, because we have accidentally started trades with beings from the netherworld. Her advice was disarmingly simple: cease all trades on the island. To address the repercussions of past wishes, she advised us the first line of defence, which was an eclectic mix of offerings laid out on our cursed countertop: raw meat(rooster works the best), a cocktail of spices(coca and cinnamon preferably), liberal splashes of spirits(whiskey and rum ideally), and an eerie bouquet of black flowers(luckily I found some black roses at a flower shop of the mall). In a grander gesture of appeasement, Kath relinquished her shiny new diamond bracelet, Jaz her absurdly expensive headphones, and I parted with cash—— a hefty slice of my bonus in hopes of placating whatever capricious spirits we'd angered.
Our return to normalcy was brief but sweet, prompting us to plan a getaway, eager to forget about our nefarious kitchen island. Yet, the respite was merely a tease. Jaz, in a stroke of spectacular misfortune, narrowly dodged disaster twice in one day—first nearly becoming subway track fodder on her way back after work, and then almost getting knocked out by a rogue plant at our apartment building’s doorstep. Clearly, our previous offerings were mere appetizers to whatever forces we'd stirred. The psychic, summoned once again to our now-dubious sanctuary, decreed that the spirits had developed rather expensive tastes, unsatisfied by our initial gestures.
In a desperate bid for closure, we had the psychic over for a nighttime ritual, timed perfectly with Earth's closest approach to the netherworld, according to her. Our living room turned into a ritual chamber, with windows blacked out for days, to keep the otherworldly dealings strictly nocturnal. That night, we arranged ourselves around the island, now less a kitchen fixture and more an altar of last resort.
The psychic, amidst a chorus of Latin incantations, directed us through a chilling séance that included a mirror that reflected nothing but darkness and a burning black candle, the three of us sat in a row, joined hands, eyes closed. When the black candle was flickering at its last, the first eerie scratches heard prompted our eyes to open prematurely, we saw a command appear on the island, written by invisible hand and pen, in blood-red script, urging us to find the next "succeeder" before our lease on otherworldly disturbances could be terminated.
With bated breath, we agreed, and as if by magic, our signatures materialized on the countertop, then faded as the candle sputtered out. We tore off the black cardboard taped on the windows at dawn, the sunrise revealed a final message etched into the surface: "Debt cleared." As the daylight grew, the ominous inscription dissolved into nothingness, signalling the end of our spectral saga.
The ordeal, now officially behind us, left us enjoying a semblance of normalcy: life in 606 returned to its mundane rhythm, with dinners and movie nights back on our social calendar. Though not without its scars—literal and figurative.
It’s been two years since then, Jaz, in the throes of romantic bliss, is now gearing up for a new chapter waiting to be written alongside her soon-to-be spouse; Kath, her career finally taking a lucrative turn, was poised to upgrade her living situation, she secured a lease on a lavish serviced apartment in the city center—a place that matched her newfound financial swagger.
I’m not without my own leaps forward. With a modest boost from my parents, I took the plunge into homeownership, snagging a property within the city’s vibrant confines. The process was a whirlwind of paperwork and decorating decisions, culminating in a space I could truly call my own.
As we are packing up now, my last act is to type out our story, at the infamous island, and of course, I left a note in the fridge for the next tenants:
"Welcome to 606. We had a wonderful time here, especially at the kitchen island, filled with joy and unforgettable moments. We hope you find as much happiness as we did. Use the isle well. Warm wishes, the previous tenants."

2024.05.15 00:29 Depop_Mods Common Scam FAQ for r/Depop

As everyone knows, scams are a common topic on this sub. As suggested by you guys, we thought we'd create a thread with some common scams and how to avoid them.
This thread will be updated every now and then so keep an eye out for it if you're worried about more scams.
I'd recommend reading through Depop's seller and buyer protection policies.
If any of these has happened to you, or you need further help/support, submit a support ticket to Depop. The mods here are not affiliated with Depop in anyway, so please contact actual Depop via that link if you need more help.
SHEIN/ALIEXPRESS ETC. DROPSHIPPERS: Always reverse image search and check seller’s reviews. The brand is usually always listed as "Other" and the tags have been cut. If the seller has "preorder" or "will ship in 2+ weeks" in their bio, it's very likely a dropshipper.
COUNTERFEIT/REP ITEMS: As a seller, selling Counterfeit and Replica items is against TOS and will result in you being suspended. As a buyer, make sure you thoroughly look at the pictures provided before purchasing. I would suggest reverse image searching, doing research on the item and googling how to spot fake items for the brand you are purchasing. There's also the main sub's authentication request thread or the FashionReps sub to authenticate.
If you do receive a fake item and can prove it's fake and the seller can't prove it's real, you can get a refund through Depop.
EMAIL SCAMS: Depop only sends emails with "@depop.com" at the end. Ignore emails if not from that address.
PAYING OUTSIDE OF APP: Asking and taking payment outside of Depop is against TOS and can result in your account being suspended. Never accept out of app payment. This includes people asking to meet up and pay irl. You aren't covered by Depop protection if that happens.
USERS ASKING FOR YOUR PERSONAL INFO: Never give out personal info if anyone asks, including adding it to your bio. It is NEVER needed.
USERS ASKING YOU TO CONTACT THEM ON OTHER PLATFORMS: No need for this and usually ties into paying outside of the app.
RETURNS/REFUNDS: Under Depop TOS, as a seller, you are not required to refund if you listed the correct sizing, faults etc. If you do agree or are required to refund, NEVER give the money back until you have RECEIVED the item back.
SELLERS TAKING TOO LONG TO SHIP: Sellers are required to ship in 7 days. If they don't, you can get a refund through Depop. Do not wait longer than 30 days.
SELLERS DELETING THEIR ACCOUNT AFTER PURCHASE: Contact Depop to get your refund.
LINKS: Don't click any links anyone gives you unless you know they're real. Clicking unfamiliar links is basically a no-go everywhere on the internet.
"CONGRATS YOUR ITEM IS SOLD" MESSAGE: Often sent by accounts with random names. Report and block.
MESSAGES WITH WEIRD FONT: Scammers use different/weird font to get around Depop's bot trying to filter out scammers. Block and report these people.
BUYER ASKED ME TO CHANGE ADDRESS AFTER ITEM IS DELIVERED: Nothing you can do in this situation and is usually a scam.

2024.05.15 00:21 Penguin_loverxd Transferring out

I’m transferring to a different uni but figuring out the whole process has been difficult. First of all, when do we get our grades back? I have most of them already but waiting on bio1000 only and I heard that it will come out in June. Is it normal for grade to be released that late? I’m scared I won’t be able to send my grades over to the uni I’m transferring in time . Second, how do u actually send ur transcript? I saw in York website that you pay to get your transcript ? Can anyone let me know if there’s a free way to do it or share contact info of where I can ask these questions? I have been emailing the York but haven’t been getting many answers. Lastly, where do we check our GPA?

Disclaimer: This current version is the "good" route so most endings will be somewhat happy/hopeful but will still be (mostly) canon compliant
What happened
During the gruelling campaign against the Hrud where Petra and the Anvil fought side by side together with their legion they suddenly received an emergency message from Olympia sent by Petra’s adoptive sister Calliphone. The message went on to deliver the news that Olympia have fallen into disarray with the widespread discontent devolving into outright violence and a civil war ensued. This devastating news led to Petra having to cut her campaign short right on the eve of the decisive battle against the last of the Hrud, deeming the threat to be mostly neutralised and Olympia being a bigger priority.
On their journey returning to Olympia, there was a heated discussion between Petra , her inner circle known as the Trident and The Anvil on the most appropriate course of action. While Petra wanted to swiftly end the conflict by putting down all the warring factions violently and eliminate all those responsible for Olympia falling into such disarray, her Anvil, ever the diplomat at heart suggest only eliminating those who refuse to stand down and come to the negotiating table to resolve the cause of discontent and reform the planet’s government to prevent such an incident from ever occurring again. Despite everyone, including Petra herself, agreeing to this course of action, it was all for naught as when the Iron Warriors landed on Olympia, they were immediately fired upon by one of the many insurrectionist factions. Already being enraged from having to cut the Hrud campaign short, such an act of defiance, by her own home world no less, proved to be the last straw as the Countess of Iron immediately rescinded her previous orders and instead ordered the Iron warriors to eliminate of anyone even showing any hint of resistance or sympathy towards the insurgents.
Immediately after Petra’s new orders were issued, the Anvil left and informed several likeminded officers who , along with the men under their command, decided to join their Primarch’s lover in stopping this madness. They immediately contacted Calliphone and began coordinating evacuation efforts and delaying the Iron Warriors under Petra for as long as possible by causing deliberate miscommunication and sowing general confusion within the ranks with the help of those Iron Warriors who while sympathetic to their cause dared not to openly oppose their Primarch. This was met with relative success as several units of Iron Warriors “accidentally” marched on an uninhabited area on the planet or deliberately loudly discussing Petra’s latest orders within earshot of Olympian citizens. Despite this relative success, many Iron Warriors, especially those under Petra’s direct command, still followed through with the Primarch’s orders which led to the death of at least over half of the planet’s population with thousands remaining unaccounted for.
The deception could not go on forever however, and Petra soon learn of the actions of her lover and adoptive sister. Enraged and confused by the actions of the two people she trusted most, the countess of Iron stopped her assault and contacted both the Anvil and Calliphone under a flag of truce to discuss the matter and understand why they would go to such lengths for people she perceived as “traitors and rebels”. Petra and her officers arrived at the agreed upon location for the truce to find only her lover and Calliphone waiting there. It is not fully known what truly transpired during the discussion but it ultimately ended with Calliphone’s death and the Anvil being allowed to peacefully leave Olympia alongside all the people they’ve saved , the soldiers and Iron Warriors who chose to follow them.
Years later, a rumor within the legion would surface telling of what happened with the alleged source of this story being one of the officers who accompanied Petra to the truce negotiations. According to this rumor, it was said that the discussion got heated when Calliphone began berating the Primarch about how she should’ve contacted Calliphone first and that Petra has “taken things too far”. Offended by such remarks from a “mere mortal” one of the junior officers accompanying Petra grabbed her by the throat and strangled her on the spot. This drew the ire of Petra who felt that the officer had not only violated her command but made her into an oathbreaker, the Primarch then proceeded to beat the officer to death with her bare hands on the spot before accepting the terms presented by her lover and allow them to leave in peace as is officially known.
Once the Anvil and those that have accompanied her had left Olympia, Petra had begun creating the design for the robots that would later become known as The Iron Circle as she felt that she no longer had anyone she could fully trust by her side. Meanwhile, the Anvil sought out the warsmith Barabas Dantioch who assisted them in properly organising a fleet and finding a relatively unknown and well hidden planet to temporarily act as a base for both the refugees of Olympia and the soldiers and Astartes who followed them.
Once the heresy had broken out the Anvil was initially horrified and appalled by Petra’s actions on Istvaan V. However, horror soon made way for concern once a member of the Trident contacted the Anvil, informing them of the events that transpired on Iydris and how Petra nearly died at the hands of her own sister, Fulgrim. Determined to settle their conflicting emotions of horror for her prior actions and concern given the recent events that occurred they decided to confront Petra one last time to discuss the future of their relationship.
The Anvil chose to make their way towards Terra knowing that the traitors would definitely concentrate all their forces there and hoping to confront Petra alongside most of their Astartes and soldiers while leaving the Olympian refugees under the protection of a small garrison force. However, their fleet were suddenly intercepted by an Alpha Legion warship who informed them that they should avoid entering the Sol system as the siege of Terra was already well underway and gave them information on how Petra and the Iron Warriors would soon be replaced by the Death Guard as the ones leading the siege of Terra along with how the Warmistress sought to use the Iron Warriors on Terra as a spearhead to soak up most of the casualties before sending in her own legion into the fray. Understanding that such actions could unnecessarily put Petra in great danger, the Anvil chose to forward all of this information along with a message to meet and talk about their relationship and “forever home” later using a direct communication device given to them by Petra before departing Olympia all those years ago. The Anvil later received a reply from Petra thanking them for the information and was informed that the given info was one of the deciding factors in her decision to abandon the siege of Terra. The message then went on to state that they should meet and discuss their future together after she settled things “one last time” with her sister Dorn.
Later on, the Anvil received another message from an agent of the Alpha Legion stating that they should ”Head to Sebastus IV as soon as possible, or risk losing the one you love forever”. Given that this was from the same Alpha Legionnaire who informed them of the siege of Terra, they chose to believe it and immediately head for the planet alongside their retinue of men. The Anvil arrived at the “Eternal Fortress” on the planet near the end of the battle that would later be known as the “Iron Cage”. While the battle was nearly over the Anvil finally managed to confront Petra just as she was about to begin her ritual of sacrificing Imperial Fist gene seed to ascend to daemonhood.
When they were reunited for the first time in years, the Anvil began pleading for Petra to just abandon the ritual and leave together to a peaceful place where they can settle down and build their “Forever Home” together. After a moment of silence that seemed to last an eternity, Petra finally ordered the gene seed to be removed from her presence ordered a general withdrawal and departed with her lover before the Ultramarines arrived to relieve the fists.
In her final actions as the leader of her legion Petra guided them to the planet of Medrengard and built the fortress there to act as their new base of operations and left her legion under the command of the Trident before giving the Astartes in her legion a choice between peacefully retiring to the hidden world where the descendants of the refugees from Olympia resides or continue the long war here in Medrengard.
Once all was said and done, Petra relinquished the command of her legion and departed her lover abroad the Iron Blood, guarded by The Iron Circle. Finally leaving all the war and bloodshed behind for good and depart for their “Forever Home”.
Afterword: Oh man this one took quite a bit of work lol I was gonna write about what they’re currently up to in the 41st millennium but I just felt that leaving it open ended like this is probably better.
As for the nickname “Anvil” that was something I came up with myself based on Perty’s canon nickname of the “Hammer of Olympia” so I decided to make the SO an anvil to go along with Petra’s hammer. It’s also a reference to how anvils acts a workbench for the hammer and help support/soak up the hammer’s strikes much like the pair’s relationship dynamic.
Credits u/Sweet_older-Sister for making the AU a reality u/NadiaFortuneFeet for the female name of Petra
