2024.05.14 03:41 prettyboysad Buying Private Dental Insurance Vs. Dental School Vs. Mexico??

Currently making a spreadsheet of all the info for different dental insurances and yowza it's taking 1000 years. Throughout my research I've been struck by how low yearly maximums are for most dental insurances. So far Delta Dental has offered the best at $2000 yearly maximum for their premier membership. I can't help but wonder how that isn't going to be blown after one deep cleaning and a filling. I also have to do the research on if any reputable dentist take Delta Dental. But dental work cost so much around me I'm not sure if I'm missing something or if I'm right to question the maximums.
Personal history is I have periodontal disease, a cracked molar, I definitely have one cavity and I need an implant. I'm only 33 years old. Shit sucks. If anyone has any suggestions on a really good dental insurance to buy I'm all ears.
I've also been told to check out Columbia dental school.... But I'm scared at the idea of students learning on me. I was a cosmetology student and I personally fucked up some hair in beauty school. Hair grows back fortunately, but not teeth. So I really feel uneasy at the dental school route.
I've also considered going to Mexico... Options and accommodations look amazing. I'd need to get a passport. Biggest fear there is getting scammed and not having a local dentist to go to if things needed tending to.
Anyone have any experience with Dental Insurances or Mexico? Would love insight and suggestions. Thanks!

2024.05.14 01:16 Fast-Elk730 Am I screwed?

My grandmother is passing away so I booked flights from the USA to London, UK to let my infant and 5 year old son see here for the first and last time. I’m not sure how much time we have hence the urgency in booking.
Arrived at the airport today with American Airlines and found out that due to my son’s US passport expiring within 6 months he is not allowed to enter Europe. I’ve now missed my flights. I feel like such an idiot for not checking this, but assumed it was the same 10 year passport as my wife’s who got it the same time. It’s still technically valid but just not for 6 months as required.
AA staff all told me different things - initially that they could cancel my flights and they would be valid credit to rebook within a year. Then I was told by a separate customer service agent that this is not possible because I only booked for basic economy and with the flight being international I wouldn’t receive a refund, but could rebook within a week and retain credit. I’m still unsure if that’s true.
Is there anyway to at least be refunded the taxes as we even paid almost $200 just for a lap seated infant. The flight for the 4 of us is more than could normally afford and I’m heartbroken. I’m looking into expediting a new passport for my son but I’m unsure how quick that would be or if it’s even possible.
*EDIT*: I really appreciate everyone’s replies I thought everything was hopeless. I will call tomorrow as I’m exhausted travelling back home with the kids and will see if they can rebook me due to them misinforming me. My main worry is that they seem to hold no accountability for each others’ statements and they just shrug saying ‘I don’t know why the other person said that’ and keep changing what the rules are. I hope they will make it right… it’s been 5 years since I’ve been able to see any family and it’s not been easy for us to even plan this trip.

Netflix could end up saving an acclaimed Max series that was canceled after one season
Max might have pulled the plug on Scavengers Reign, It's heading to Netflix at the end of the month, and if it draws enough viewership on the streaming platform, it could very well get revived with a second season
Scavengers Reign will start streaming on Netflix on May 31 in the United States, the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. It's not an exclusive deal, which means that the animated series will also remain available to watch on Max.
However, Max recently canceled Scavengers Reign after its premiere in October 2023. Now, Netflix is reportedly considering saving the series by renewing the show for Season 2, but no decisions will be made until after the first season starts streaming on the service.

2024.05.13 17:13 More-Peak7973 Timeline - Spain Schengen Visa from London

Hi, all,
Just got a Spain visa (6 month MEV), so I wanted to quickly hop on here and share my timeline (& advice) with everyone.
My background: I live in the UK on a Skilled Worker Visa, so my UK visa is sponsored by my employer. I have held one Schengen visa in the past (France, 3 month MEV). My passport is one of weakest in the world.
Booking the appointment: After searching for months and cancelling a trip, I finally managed to find an appointment on the BLS website on April 22nd. My appointment was on April 26th. I would recommend checking repeatedly on the 22nd of each month, between 1:00PM and 3:00PM for appointments. Unlike most people, I did not have to book a premium one. They had hundreds of normal and premium appointments available. As everyone says, keep checking and you will definitely find one. It's easy to get frustrated, but it will work out.
Alternatively, my friend called BLS at 9:00AM on a Tuesday, and informed them that she was travelling within 4 weeks and desperately needed an appointment. They were able to give her a premium one over the phone, and she received confirmation via email. BLS also allow walk-ins, but on the day of my appointment, they turned away everyone in the queue outside.
The Appointment: On the day, I was running slightly late but it did not seem to be an issue. Everyone in the waiting area had their laptops and was working (in case you need to go during a workday). BLS staff first carry out a quick document check - this is your opportunity to ask for any copies or print outs, if needed. You then receive a token number and a prepaid envelop from the next desk, and are asked to wait. Once your token is called, you then proceed with your documents and they go through each one. If you are missing anything or they need to clarify something, they will let you know. This is also where you inform them if you need photos. I was charged £10 for photos and £29.99 to get the passport couriered. Please keep in mind that they will automatically add this service and a text service to your order, you can ask for them to be removed and opt to collect your passport yourself. I then gave my biometrics and had my photos taken. The entire process took about 20 minutes from start to finish.
My appointment was on a Friday and I received a text the following Tuesday, letting me know my passport was now with the Consulate. I received a text that my passport had been despatched after 8 working days and it was delivered with next day delivery today morning at 8:15AM. I was granted a 6-month multi-entry visa until December 2024.
Happy to answer any questions regarding the process or documents etc!

2024.05.13 16:23 Megashot2 Closing a credit card

Anyone got an idea on what the process is to cancel a credit card?
I've got the Qantas Premier Platinum credit card and got the points. I have some outstanding balance, but I want to close the card soon, since I heard its best to wait a couple of weeks/months before re-applying to another CC.
If I've still got a balance, any idea if I can still cancel the card?
(Second question: I'm assuming my Qantas lounge invitations are still available? Or do I need to bind them to a flight first, before I cancel my card)
Thanks!

2024.05.13 16:18 Few-Examination1834 Illegal hiring practices

My friend is looking for a job at the moment and going for interviews. We have noticed that many companies now are trying to pull trick with “no visa till 3 month probation is finished”/ indebtment for visa cost (no matter if you are fired or resigned you must repay your visa cost). Many of the companies do this illegal practices, also they don’t want you to join on your parents/husband visa asking to cancel it and give them the passport so they basically will own you. How are they even getting away with that?

2024.05.13 16:16 IdealImaginary2758 Lost Chinese bank card outside of China

Hi! I lost my two Chinese bank cards in my country in Europe, one ICBC and one ABC (I lost my wallet or it was stolen). I reported loss of tbe ICBC one, but not immediately. For the AbC card, I phoned them and they could not find me in their system (!). My question is can they be used by dishonest finder to withdraw money? As per my understanding, no, because:
My main concerns is that someone could withdraw money and lead me into debt. I think that cannot happen, but would appreciate the opinion and experience of fellow redditers in China. I couldn't remember my password when reporting the loss to ICBC so they couldn't check the balance. ABC doesn't even have my passport no. in their system. So, my main question is, can someone use regular Chinese bank cards (like those that are issued to foreign students) with no passwords (moreover, I think the bank canceled the card bc my passport expired), and 2) even if they can, can they go below zero? I don't plan to go to China in foreseeable future. Thank you.

2024.05.13 15:55 WSBEmperor Traveling To Russia With a Dual Citizenship

Hi all! I am planning to travel to Russia with a Russian dual citizenship. I have never lived in Russia nor am I born in Russia. I have family living there that I want to visit next week.
Recently a friend of mine traveled to visit his family over Eastern and got detained on the border getting all of his passports confiscated and receiving a travel ban for the next 2 years out of Russia. He doesn't live or work in Russia.
Is it too risky for me to travel at the moment and should I postpone/cancel my travel all together?
TLDR: Should I travel to Russia or is the risk of getting conscripted too high at the moment?

So as the title says, I was able to reverse my annual fee for this year. At first, they don’t want to reverse it but after arduous follow ups and email in the end they reversed it; however, I’m still contemplating if I should still continue with the cancellation as the CS is super shitty and if so, how do I proceed with the cancellation without going thru the phone hassle?

2024.05.13 12:20 CheeseWineBread What you should know about Overwatch 2

On 25 April 2024, we got this change in the patchnotes :
Added Overwatch system to enable match demo review by trusted partners
What has changed ?
From multiple sources :
VACnet (AI) is fully activated again but does not ban anyone automatically. Now all members of the party get a cooldown of 24H the first time it detects some "irregular gameplay". The "presumed cheater" get the wording : "VAC has flagged your gameplay as irregular" and teammates who were in the same party (not other teammates) got "You partied with a player whose gameplay has been flagged by VAC as irregular" (Source)
On top of that, the game is canceled by VACLive (which for what we know is only the mechanism which allows to cancel a game live) with a big red panel.
What happens next ?
The case of the "presumed cheater" is being reviewed by Overwatch "trusted partners". It seems that it can takes like a week or less. The "presumed cheater" can play again after the 24h cooldown if he has not been reviewed yet by Overwatch. But if he triggers the "irregular gameplay" again, he will get 3 days cooldown, and probably more after, until his case has been reviewed by Overwatch. (Source)
What does "trusted partners" mean ? I have absolutly no source about that. But I do believe that we may never get Overwatch as a community. Time will tell.
What about false positive ?
If you get cooldowns from irregular gameplay and you are legit, VACnet (AI) should be adjusted after being reviewed by Overwatch. You missed the opportunity to win/lose ELO on a game which has been canceled. But you are not banned on your Steam profile.
But I play against obvious cheaters today !
We can only hope that VACnet (AI) will improve and will be faster to give cooldowns soon enough.
Questions (unanswered)
Hopes this can help people understand what has happened in future canceled matches.

2024.05.13 11:47 Jacco123 Hertz/KLM rental car question.

Edit: If anyone finds this post looking for help. You will need to cancel your reservation, credit card information cant be changed after the booking and payment have been made, you will need to cancel and book again.
My parents said they would take care of booking a rental car for our upcoming road trip this summer in the US, but they made a mistake with the credit card whilst booking a car from Hertz using the KLM website.
Long story short:
Question: Will there be a problem picking up the rental car? I still have hope there wont be because the car has been fully payed and during our pickup, we will have a credit card with us that is on the name of the main driver.
But... But I cant even view my booking on the offical hertz website because it will say 'invalid credit card expiry date'. I can however see the full comfirmed booking on the KLM site, we alse received confirmation mails and our booking voucher.

2024.05.13 09:48 fffelix_jan How does facial recognition work through masks in China? Does putting on the below articles of clothing protect you from the facial recognition of security cameras?

In China, it is common to see facial recognition security cameras in public places. (There is no such thing as a social credit "score", so don't worry about that. However, many of the cameras are tied to the PSB system, so for Chinese people, their last seen location can be searched according to their ID card number by the police, since the ID card information also includes facial data.) However, apparently some facial recognition works even if you are wearing a mask. For example, the Alipay facial payment available at some stores works even if you are wearing a COVID surgical mask. How does the facial recognition work even though the person is wearing a mask? Does it judge the size of your face, the distance between your eyes, your skin colour, etc.? If stores have this technology, it is possible that the municipal HD security cameras on the street have this technology too, so how could you prevent it? I can only imagine that the only way to prevent it would be to wear a hood, ski mask and sunglasses, which would look cool in the winter (and is what I wear in the winter), but it would be very uncomfortable in the hot summer, so I just go maskless and live with the privacy issues. In the winter, I usually wear a hood and a ski mask while biking anyways, so maybe the winter is better in this regard. Would wearing the aforementioned articles of clothing make the facial recognition less effective?
It is possible that I do not have to worry about any of these, since I am a foreigner (more specifically, a Canadian), and foreigners do not have a Chinese ID card or its associated biometric data, so I can't use Alipay or Weixin facial payment even if I wanted to. (It would be a fun novelty to try, but nowadays I usually pay by cash whenever possible to mitigate the privacy and security risks of scanning unknown QR codes and the collection of spending habits by restaurants' "scan to order" mini programs. Additionally, I use a regular transit card bought with cash now and cancelled the transit QR code which I used to use, since the latter requires you to provide your passport number when you sign up for it.) However, maybe they enter foreigners into the system when you move into a city, so it irks me anyways. I can see the benefits of the cameras in preventing crime, but I think the ability of automatically creating a log of everywhere you go is unsettling.

Since joining Manchester United in 2020, few players have faced as many challenges as Donny van de Beek while wearing the United kit. The Dutch midfielder, previously flourishing at Ajax, secured a move to Old Trafford amid high expectations. However, with Bruno Fernandes's presence and other issues, Van de Beek struggled to break into the first-team squad.
As a result, the now 27-year-old has only made 62 appearances for the club since his arrival, often being loaned out instead. This includes spells at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt, with Van de Beek joining the latter in January of this year. However, despite the loan move having an €11 million option to buy, the Bundesliga side has decided against making it permanent.

Donny van de Beek Transfer: Guido Albers reveals that the midfielder will be leaving England this summer

Van de Beek's struggle for form and playing time has been evident, with just eight appearances since the start of his loan spell. Consequently, the midfielder is poised to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season, though reports suggest his future doesn't lie there. This has now been confirmed by his agent, Guido Albers, who stated that Van de Beek will indeed be departing.
Moreover, Albers disclosed that Van de Beek won't be joining another Premier League club, a decision agreed upon by both the player and Manchester United. Additionally, despite speculation linking him with a return to Ajax, Albers revealed that this won't be happening. Instead, their preference is a move to Spain, France, or Italy.
“For me it is a very nice moment in his career to pick it up again. We said together, ‘back to basics’. He’s lost that a bit in recent years. He is hungry and eager to please. I came to an agreement with Frankfurt for him. Frankfurt still had an option until June 30, which they will not exercise,” Albers told ESPN’s Goedemorgen Eredivisie
“Officially he is now going back to Manchester United and I am now in discussions with him. Donny does not want to stay in the Premier League, also because United do not want that. That is not a good choice for him.”
“He needs to return to a club that plays good football. In any case, he will not return to Ajax. My preference was to look in Spain, Italy or France. If I could get him in Spain or Italy that would be fantastic, at a club where he will play as a No.10 like he played at Ajax. You see that the Dutch are successful in a certain way in Spanish or Italian football.
“He was very close to a transfer to Real Sociedad last summer. That was cancelled at the last minute because Erik ten Hag wanted to keep him until the last minute. Then he ended up at Frankfurt.”

2024.05.13 06:40 Bandit_the_kat Help with elderly family members

Some elderly members of my family in their 80s want to go on an Italy trip for their birthday but their passports recently expired and they sent their original passports and original marriage certificate to a sketchy obviously scam fast passport renewal place and we believe that they could be having their identities stolen as i type this, we tried to talk them into cancelling the trip or even travelling to a place in-country but they are being to stubborn. We have no idea what to do as we tried everything and we really don't want them to get denied at the airport for not having a valid passport and lose all their money from the flight tickets as they think they can sweet talk their self all the way to Italy. They refuse to book an appointment at the passport office as they think that they will receive new passports from the "fast passport renewal place" and refuse to believe that their identities are being stolen. They have plenty of time to get their passports renewed the legit way, i don't know anymore, have anyone reading this been in a similar situation? If so how did you resolve it if you did?

2024.05.13 04:08 WeekendGearGuide Dell Premier Wireless ANC Headset WL7024 Comparison & Voice Call Quality Review Dell's 1st Premium Professional Office Headset

I just recently purchased the Dell Premier Wireless ANC Headset WL7024, and while I was at first hesitant since this is Dell's first crack at designing and manufacturing their own Professional Office Headsets (previously Dell just stuck their logo over existing Poly Headsets, until HP bought Poly out, forcing Dell to seek a home grown solution), but after trying it out, I can safely say that Dell has done a remarkable job on their 1st flagship Professional Office Headset, which is also the first to have dual-directional AI-Based Noise Cancellation (Dell's AI technology helps isolate both your voice and your callers voice ensuring clear voice clarity, if either of you are talking in the presence of loud background noise, and it works surprisingly well!)
So for any Dell owners looking for a really good Professional Headset, then have a look at this long but very detailed and comprehensive comparison review I did after my own research and testing.
This comparison review will cover the following:
0:00 Intro 1:04 Best Professional Headset Requirements for 2024+ 3:16 Professional Over-the-Ear Boomless Mic ANC BT Headset Comparisons (Dell WL7024 vs Poly Voyager Surround 80 vs EPOS Adapt 600 series vs Bang and Olufsen Cisco 980) 12:20 Dell's new and Innovative AI-Noise Cancellation of Incoming Noisy Audio 14:59 Voice Call Quality Comparison Intro (Dell WL7024 vs Poly Voyager Surround 80 vs Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex vs EPOS Impact 1061 ANC) 16:01 Updated Test Setup for Dynamic Loud Noise Environment 16:53 Quiet Environment 17:58 Constant Loud Noise Environment 19:23 Dynamic Loud Noise Environment 21:09 Windy Loud Noise Environment 22:29 Summary and Recommendations 24:54 Additional Praises, Issues and Improvements
Hopefully Dell and their product, design and engineering teams who worked on the WL7024 Headset watches this review, especially some of the issues I've mentioned at the end, and fixes these issues to make this headset even better!
If anyone has any questions or comments, let me know and I'll be happy to try and answer them.

2024.05.13 00:31 No-Paramedic-4483 I want to live my life in my 20s, but my parents want me to be married.

Asslamu alaykum everyone, I’ve been on this subreddit for a while, but this is my first post on a throwaway.
I (F23) have been living away from my parents house, on the other side of the country for nearly 3 years. I moved to start my career. I really struggled with severe depression, especially during lockdown while living in my parent’s house. There was a lot of childhood trauma I hadn’t dealt with and bottled up which finally exploded in isolation during lockdown. To the point, I was convinced I wasn’t going to leave that house alive. It was a really dark time for me and alhamdullilah I’m happy now. I’ve recovered after lots of therapy, distance and dua and I don’t have depression anymore subhanallah, which I didn’t ever think was possible a few years ago.
Anyway, I love living where am I now. I’m figuring out my career, grown closer to Allah, (still have blips at times), but all in all, I’m so different to who I used to be. I’ve made a life here, and I’m proud of it and grateful to Allah mostly because a few years ago, I didn’t think life was worth living.
My parents want me to get married ASAP. Moving out and living on my own was a huge thing and it only happened because I wanted to work in a certain field and got a job offer on the other side of the country. That and my depression, which was rooted in trauma and abuse I witnessed/experienced in that house during my childhood. Alhamdullilah, I’ve done a lot of work to get where I am now and still forgiving and trying to forgive and heal from what happened, as things and people aren’t what they were anymore. I’m your typical independent eldest daughter and the distance from my family helped heal the bond and recover from the trauma that exists. An unmarried woman living with friends isn’t done in my family/community and I’m grateful my parents let me move.
But now they’re in a rush to get me married. My parents are also of the opinion that life doesn’t really start until after marriage. I want to travel and enjoy holidays with my friends, which they’re against. Last year, I attended my friend’s wedding abroad (booked tickets and then told them) and they were fuming. Literally to the point that my mum said she’d cancel my passport if she could. She said that I’m taking a mile now that I’ve been given an inch (allowed to move out) and this is what happens when you give them freedom. I had a blast and I had an amazing time with my friends. Thankfully my parents are over it now, but I want to go on holiday with my friends again this year. Islamically, I know that it’s a bit sketchy without a mahram, but alhamdullilah my friends are good people, most are practising Muslims ( I have a few non-Muslim friends who have very similar interests and are so lovely and supportive – mostly vegetarians/don’t drink alcohol). I’m quite chill and my version of a good time is exploring cities, bookshops, museums, art galleries, going to cafes, trying coffee spots and restaurants. My parents know I’m not of the sort to go to to clubs and raves and engage in haraam.
My younger sister has been jetsetting all over the world with her best friend (she’s a uni student) to a pretty wild degree - she’s been to Turkey 5 times, Marrakech twice, Egypt, Qatar etc. Only I know about it, my parents would absolutely lose it if they found out. I don’t want to lie to them and book holidays and hide it from them like my sister does. It feels unsafe and I’m anxious about the thought of something happening to me in a foreign country and them finding out I’m in some random place. But I feel like there’s little other option than me doing what makes me happy whilst also keeping them happy, without this axe over my head (marriage) every time I talk about living my life and enjoying my 20s.
They’ve tried to find me a few potentials and I’ve gotten to know quite a few people, but nothing has come of those prospects. One recently, my parents vetted and they were really pleased with it and thought he was perfect on paper and would be a really good match (his deen, career, location, aqidah). I was shown a picture of him and he wasn’t my type looks-wise at all. I just didn’t find him attractive. So I told my parents and my mum was vexed and said I should go find someone myself seeing as I’m so fussy and have such high standards and I quote ‘I need to be brought down to earth because this isn’t Jannah’. I don’t have unrealistic high standards btw. I even said I’d be open to meeting him because some people aren’t photogenic or maybe he’s better looking in person. I just wanted to keep them happy tbh, which isn’t fair to this guy. My mum basically told me that I’m wasting her time (she spent a lot of time vetting this guy) and I should just go find someone myself. I don’t want to fall into fitna and really don’t have the time or energy to find some guy myself and get played by someone stringing me along for marriage, but I’m torn as to what to do.
I’m looking for someone who is emotionally intelligent, generous, compassionate and stable. Yes, everyone has some physical preferences about beards and height for example, but I hate how I’m being made out to be really shallow, when I’m not.
She said she’s done and I’m just wasting her time by rejecting all these men, one after the another. I’ve made a real effort to genuinely get to know these people. In some cases, it was lack of physical attraction or just mindset compatibility, in others the Deen wasn’t correct and there was bidah and all sorts, even though I thought that guy was pretty good looking. I don’t know what to do. I’m stressed about it, In Sha Allah it works out for me, I believe in qadr and I know what’s written for me will find me.
I don’t know how to communicate this to my parents. I want to go on short trips with my friends. I’m not married, I don’t have kids, this is the time for me to enjoy and travel without those obligations. I don’t know what to do. I want to get married, but I feel rushed and like the pressure is on. I don’t want to be rushed into marriage and say yes to someone I don’t have any attraction or interest in, purely because my parents ‘know better’ and they ‘know what’s best for me’.
Any advice is appreciated. Jazakallah khayr.
