2024.05.14 18:39 Dazzling_Street_3475 Dislocated my Shoulder at Crossfit - Recovery Write-up

Hey everyone, I wanted to summarize the injury I had, how it affected me, and the rehab process. I'll make edits every three months or so to track my progress and return to CF.
Background: I'm a 27 y/o guy who had been doing CF for about 1.5 years until my injury. I had seen steady progress in all aspects of CF since starting. I had previously lifted weights for 7 years.
December 2023: I went for a new PR power snatching and dislocated my shoulder while the barbell was overhead. I popped back in about a minute later. I go to the ortho that same day and get X-Rays. No bone damage thankfully. About a week later I get an MRI that confirms labral tear and a little bit of damage around some other tendons I don't remember the name of. No biceps tendon damage. I wear a sling for 4 weeks, doing one small CF workout before surgery for whatever reason.
I believe what led to the dislocation was a combination of poor mobility, improper recovery leading up to the attempt, and trying a weight that was outside of my strength range. Live and you learn I guess.
January 2024: Surgery exactly one month after dislocation. Surgeon tells me it was like my labrum had torn from the 8 o'clock hand to the 11 o'clock hand of a clock so not terrible. Told to wear a sling for 6 weeks.
February 2024: Since I work remotely, I really only wore my sling outside of the house and not all that often. Should've (?) been better about wearing the sling but I have no idea if that had any impact on my recovery since my arm was on my lap 8 hours a day. I began to run as exercise.
March 2024: In the beginning of the month I start physical therapy for an intended 12 weeks. Still running, not doing any weight training or modified CF.
April 2024: Running, did a 10k for the first time, slowly getting back into lifting weights, PT is going well.
May 2024: Quit running after the 10k (something I regret). I'm nearing the end of PT and would say my mobility is around 85% of what it used to be. Starting to get into weight lifting with minimal apprehension. I am still not able to do close to what my old CF self was. I cannot currently do any sort of pull ups, RMUs, BMUs, etc. I could probably snatch the bar and that's it.
As of today, I have not done any Crossfit in 5 months, and don't think I'll be full strength for a few more. I plan to just keep doing a body building split until I'm confident my range of motion is no longer compromised and I can perform everything overhead pain-free. I would rather do this than modify CF around my injury. It's actually been somewhat nice to take a break, get back into something I haven't done for a while, and try some other forms of exercise. Looking forward to getting back into it later this year.

2024.05.14 18:39 eamii Tell me your dreams! Dream Submission

I have been super interested in dreams and have been writing my own down since 2016, I read some article or post saying if you do this it helps you remember them and will lead you to have more. It seems to work!
But I love hearing other people’s dreams and had an idea to create a book just filled with all types of dreams people have had.
I didn’t feel comfortable just going around the internet and nabbing people’s dreams, so I created a form for people to fill out and submit their dreams anonymously, or be credited, and would love to get a ton for this book. Please fill out the form and tell me your dreams! You can submit more than one.
Feel free to also just respond to this post with your dreams, and share this post and the form with your friends or on other social media!
I don’t have a lot of the details worked out, as I’ve never created a book before, but I will post updates if anyone is interested.

2024.05.14 18:30 WeissonWr 22 [M4F] Europe - Looking for my soul partner

Hey, Im new on this place since the dating sites i tried just didnt work for me since i didnt find any girl willing to be serious on a relationship.
I'll try to introduce myself since I'm not really good at this, and I'll do it in the most honest way I can.
My name is Vlad, I'm 22 years old, and I currently live in Europe ( if we Connect and i feel good i will share more with you). I really enjoy video games, anime (I started watching it a few months ago as I was having a really hard time, and it's helping me a lot), listening to music, and working out at the gym (it's helping me a lot with my stress and my feelings). I also like more things, but I can't remember them all, so you can ask me if you want 😊.
About my looks, I can say that I have long black hair (Viking style, I think), I'm around 5'10"-5'12" tall, and I have an average body, but I'm changing that with the gym. I don't have any problem sending selfies or even voice notes, so feel free to ask about it.
About my personality, I can say that I'm a very sweet and caring person and will always give you lots of love and affection, but I need to feel that from your side too. I love to spend time together, so doing voice chats, sleep calls, or video calls its nice with me 😊 (I will adapt to your preferences, but for me, doing those is just a form of love).
A bit about me: I'm currently doing a cybersecurity degree that I will finish in a few months, and then I will start working on whatever job I can find to start saving some money, hopefully with the idea of going to live with my soulmate and be happy together.
I'm also a person who had a really bad time this last months (you are free to ask me about anything about me, I'm an open book), so I need to feel loved and cared for, and I love to be pampered in that sense. I will never say no to any kind of affection you show me.
If you really want to get to know me better, feel free to message me i dont bite 😅

2024.05.14 18:24 0regon_ Scam targeting contractors through an exterior painting job.

I recently started up a contracting/handyman business. A couple of weeks ago I received a text asking me if I did exterior painting. After informing him that I did, I got the address to do a free estimate. The location looked like it was vacant, and definitely in need of paint. Long story short, I submitted a bid, he accepted, and offered to send me a check for 30 percent down, and the rest when the job was completed. I became suspicious when he wanted me to email him the contract to sign. Plus, his number had an unusual area code, and the name he used in the email didn't match anybody listed as owners of the property. I checked on the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) for any info regarding scams against contractors, but they only had warning for customers regarding scams contractors might attempt. Luckily, an online search for "scam painter contractor" revealed posts from contractors getting scammed. I decided to play along with the guy and his scam was to send me the down payment, along with money to pay the carpenter that would be doing work on the house I was to paint. He told me to pay the painter as soon as the check clears with my bank. I received the check yesterday and notified the sheriffs department. They are sending me a form to fill out which will, at best, provide the government with statistical data regarding these types of crimes. There is zero hope that they will actually catch the guy. I wanted to think up a clever way to mess with the guy. Like to tell him I lost the check and send me another one, but I ended up just telling him to f*** off when he called me at a bad time. Anyway, I hope this post helps prevent someone else from falling for this type of scam. Cheers

2024.05.14 18:22 poop-machines N-Acetyl L-Cystine and Zinc - Two supplements you absolutely should know more about, showing huge promise for liver disease.

This is not medical advice. I am not suggesting you take these. I am, however, suggesting you perhaps ask your doctor about these supplements and whether it would be okay to take them. You could even present the studies.
Now I can't promise these will be the golden bullet to stop NAFLD or reverse it, but what I can promise is that these supplements are well tolerated, have few side effects when taken as directed, and are generally helpful to very helpful. I don't have NAFLD however I do have genetic liver issues, and have seen positive results from these supplements. I therefore feel like this information is too important not to share. There's also a lot of research backing up weight loss as a result of these supplements, especially NAC - look into it on google scholar, or ask in the comments and i'll provide some.
N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC) is a supplement and medication derived from the amino acid L-cysteine. It acts as a precursor to glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals and toxins.
It is a well tolerated supplement that shows excellent promise in preventing and treating liver disease, to me it looks to be a miracle supplement as it helps so many conditions.
  1. NAC shows an enhanced effect to improve liver function by reducing the levels of oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory markers such as IL-6, TNF-α and IL-1β, NF-κB, TGFβ-1, and MDA levels. This is a review/meta analysis that looks into many studies and found that the results are very promising, even predicting a large increase in demand for NAC because it's so promising.
  2. Long-term administration of NAC significantly reduced liver steatosis and triglyceride levels in mice fed a high-fat diet. The researchers suggested that NAC's ability to alleviate endoplasmic reticulum stress and improve fatty acid oxidation contributed to these beneficial effects
  3. NAC treatment in mice leads to a reduction in Liver Fat Accumulation, reduces oxidative stress, improved liver function and concluded it shows potential as a therepeutic agent
  4. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2213434423000154 - it significantly increased albumin (ALB) and decreased bilirubin levels, a positive change for both measures. The meta analysis suggested larger trials are necessary assessing dose.
Zinc is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in various biological functions, including those related to liver health
  1. Zinc supplementation for three months improved insulin resistance and oxidative stress status in overweight/obese NAFLD patients
  2. The Effect of Zinc Supplementation on Steatosis Severity and Liver Function Enzymes in Overweight/Obese Patients with Mild to Moderate Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Following Calorie-Restricted Diet: a Double-Blind, Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial
Why I'm posting both together: Zinc acts as a cofactor for a variety of enzymes, including those involved in the metabolism of amino acids like cysteine. For example, the enzyme zinc metalloproteinase relies on zinc to maintain its structural integrity and catalytic function, which can affect the processing of cysteine and related compounds. Zinc is crucial for the storage and secretion of insulin in the pancreas. Insulin contains cysteine residues that form disulfide bonds, essential for its proper structure and function.
Co-administration of zinc and n-acetylcysteine prevents arsenic-induced tissue oxidative stress in male rats. This study doesn't look into liver disease, but it shows remarkable protection against oxidative stress, which is a cause of liver damage.
The combination showed remarkable protection against blood delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) activity as well as providing protection to hepatic biochemical variables indicative of oxidative stress
Good luck everyone!

Using Elementor Free, Astra template.
I scoured this site for an answer to reducing the thickness/height of the dropdown "bars," and while I can find how to fix width, I can't find anything on height.
Right now they are WAY to tall for text inside. Am I missing some secret place to correct/adjust this?

2024.05.14 18:17 simplicity_931 Games where I can play as a necromancer / summoner?

Hello all! So necromancer / summoner is simply just my favorite playstyle / fantasy I suppose. Mainly get this through arpgs such diablo, last epoch, path of exile, grim dawn and the list can continue lol. But I'm just curious if there's any games maybe I haven't heard of, maybe some that aren't even arpgs cause that's where I usually find this playstyle at least, that have a form of necromancer / summoner. Not really any genre specific as I just love gaming so. I'm currently even looking at how viable that style is in BG3 cause I haven't played that game yet lol.

complete side thing Archer is my second favorite if not tied, I played skyrims, far crys an etc but if you got any great games for this playstyle feel free to throw em in too lol

2024.05.14 18:17 OkIntroduction9149 Life planning, it's seems great but has some problems..

Hello friends, I hope you're doing well. Today, I need your help regarding a matter I'll explain shortly.
After my 19th birthday, I decided to abandon the habit of wasting my time aimlessly and instead fill it with more meaningful activities. I've been quite successful; a few months after my birthday, I began the unstoppable journey and I quitting smoking, and now, as I talk about it, it's been almost over 5 months.
During these months, I've listened to numerous podcasts, decided to learn web design, read books on self-improvement and discipline, as well as interesting novels. I even decided to learn Spanish, despite living in the Middle East and perhaps having slim chances of visiting that place one day.
But I've done all these things to avoid wasting my time on trivial matters and to be satisfied with myself. And now, as I write this, it's not because I'm tired of doing these things; I just feel like something is missing in my life.
Although maybe I shouldn't feel this way, if Mark Manson were here, he would strongly disagree with me (laughs). When I used to plan my days, my tasks were fixed. Every day, a book, every day, a podcast, coding and taking online courses occasionally. But I was sure that among these days, I would allocate time for myself, because after all, well, I also want to watch a movie, play games, or maybe just stare at the wall for a while.
But when I made this plan for myself, I didn't go to university, and now, the days I go to university, when I come home, I'm completely more tired than I can even relax. And well, with the story I've told you, my life is summarized either in my room or going to university. Even the times when I find some free time during my day, I pick up my phone and scroll through Instagram and Telegram, even when I could use that time to watch a movie or play a game, I waste it.
And yes, I said all this to finally come to the conclusion that what I've lost in my life is a form of recreation that I can't achieve by neglecting my routine tasks. And I don't know what to do. If I stop my daily tasks, I feel trash, and if I indulge in leisure, well, it still feels somewhat like being trash.
I don't have much more to describe my situation. If you have any thoughts and would be so kind as to write them to me, I would greatly appreciate hearing them.
Thank you for your attention ❤️

2024.05.14 18:12 Flametang451 The Primordial Paradox, Religious Diversity, and Free Will

In the modern age, I think one of the biggest questions anybody has had to deal with in a increasingly interconnected world from a religious perspective is the nature of how religious diversity came to be- not just internally, but externally.
The quran seems to at times explain religious diversity as a natural consequence and even ordainment upon humanity (5:48 and 10:99 come to mind here- if both are linked with each other than such would mean that some nations are meant to be as they are- even if they are what we would categorize as non monothiestic.
Quranically, such a nation could be seen potentially in Surah Yusuf. Egypt in this time is clearly implied to be pagan with Yusuf's conversation with his cellmates (12:36-42), and again in how the king's laws were different from Yusuf's (12:76). Yet the people in this verse seem to almost solely call on Allah only (when the egyptians speak of divinity, the word lilahi is used in places such as 12:31 and 12:51). If we assume the Wife of Al Aziz (Zuleikha as she is spoken of in exegesis, but also Rael) is speaking in 12:53, she does the same. In contrast, Egypt in the time of Musa amongst those who followed the Pharaoh mention waālihataka in the context of divnity- translated to multiple gods by most*).*
This could be a henotheistic situation like with the Quraish, but Prophet Yusuf aside from the prison does not do much preaching. There is a mention in Surah Ghafir (40:34) that Yusuf was rejected by the folk of Egypt, but this opens up more questions than answers (Egypt was not destroyed in Yusuf's time nor punished, nor does the quran call it's folk of that time disbelivers or mushrikeen....despite clearly being pagan. Neither does god state at any point that Yusuf was ordained to preach in Egypt. Yusuf likely was in Egypt during the Second Intermediate or Middle Kingdom Periods based on the ruler being referred to as a king if we attempt a historical contextualization, which were both dominated by pagan orthodoxy in the country.
Any criticisms on religion come from people that god narrates speaking, but not god themselves. It seems a small, but significant difference in comparison to how other nations in the quran are spoken of. 40:35 seems to continue on from this- but this verse may be unrelated to the matter (it also seems to be essentially be an allusion to cult like practices- the verse itself reads in what appears to be an orwellian matter in that folk should not question revelation at no point ever- it seems to follow in the maxim of such- "blessed are the minds who do not doubt, and cursed are those who do". Thus, it likely can and has been used to justify corrupt religious orthodoxies and institutions by silencing concerns of the layfolk, by arguing people do not have authority to question scripture or what it means. Essentially, it isn't blind following in all cases that the quran dislikes, but blind following of the right path is fine (and what "right" is can thus be made subjective to satisfy end goals). At the very least, from this verse solely. This would also likely be a favorite verse of those looking to justify spiritual abuse under the guise of well intentions.)
but at other times sems to argue that humans at some point recognized god for what they are, and that they chose to accept some kind of trust which seems to be in relation to living as humans, almost subliminally arguing that all people are somehow secretly aware of allah. Yet the quran also mentions that many folk can also be unaware or not know of god, that cities were not punished because they did know of a matter- that is the whole point of sending messengers. This in itself is an established point in jurispedence.
The verses that seem to indicate this are 7:172 and in 33:72. 33:72 seems to indicate man was very hasty in taking on said trust, to an almost shortsighted degree. However, 7:172 essentially opens up a serious question about personhood.
The claim that all folk somehow were brought forth in a primordial state to testify to god is a quran only claim- it is not as if we can go and ask somebody this happened. More importantly, considering that the quran directly shows evidence of god's interference with human consciousness by sealing hearts and ordaining paths or belief systems upon nations, we would not be able to gain a verifiable answer anyway. Since ideologies and understandings of the world are what influence actions (not the other way around, as a choice taken is always made in due part due to the convictions of a person), then it stands to reason that god sets both the cause and effect.
This would also justify fatalism (I've seen some try to argue for qadr allowing free will, but most arguments seem to be that there is a script but you can influence it a tad....which means we are mostly still bound by outside forces. The quran is even more confusing on this matter- at times it argues god is the only reason people believe or not, yet when the quraishi pagans use this very argument, they are accused of being decietful. The quran seems to want to uphold god's omnipotence and free will, and yet since the two will clash, seems to bungle both. The fact that the quran implies god created men to be upon the earth also seem to imply that humanity's acceptance of this trust and the expulsion of adam and hawwa seems to imply either events may not have been entirely free will oriented, but rather parts in a script that were unalterable (the fact that shaytan somehow managed to slink his way into heavean even after being banished seems to suggest that). Puppets on a stage, if you will, with long enough string that it looks like they have free will.
As for the issue of the primordial, what makes this so confusing is that it seems something from before birth (the opening of the book of deeds), is being taken into account in judgment. Generally, life is assumed to have begun at birth, not before.
The only way I could see this working is one of 3 methods- 1) mass mind wipes, 2) dharmic-style reincarnation, 3) ship of Theseus.
If we assume mass wind wipes were done prior to birth, then one should wonder why a person with no memories is being beholden to somebody who had said memories. Would the latter have done the same as the former? If we look at today, most wouldn't take up something so high stakes (existing as a human). Anti-natalism is a philosophical current in the modern day for a reason.
If we assume dharmic style reincarnation (the prototype souls were all regressed from being sapient to being infants), then essentially a lesser form of death has been experienced (the former cannot be seen as fully equivilent to the latter, and it cannot be possible to state either state would do the same actions in taking up the trust).
If we assume a ship of Theseus situation- god replaced each component of the old proto-souls with something new then but kept the same form- are those the same person as before? Is the delineation point form over substance? It doesn't seem like they are.
The only way that I could see this working is that the recognition of god is merely a recognition of the absolute in some form. How that happens in the living world is wildly dependent on various factors as enshrined by god or human actions. What may appear to be non belief in god may be in a sense, belief in some of his attributes. This is a mostly akbarian approach from what I can tell (though islam as a whole would be the most ideal path to take, it does not negate or subsume the others), but it seems to help avoid issues of mass damnation of humanity, and overall uphold god's mercy and salvation for other peoples.
Though one can argue since the quran mentions hell will be filled up, with all the nature of people being chosen to be guided or not, it could very well be the quran is arguing to a Calvinist style elect which would be seriously grim). Sometimes I wonder if in reading the quran pessimistically, is that perhaps how we should read it? It would lend itself to a more misotheistic understanding of god (as being evil or useless, but since the abrahamic god is all powerful, the former is the only possible approach in such a thought cycle- all actions would need to be reanalyzed as being conducive to some malevolent end.).
Of course, such a being would need to be rejected- if such a being would truly exist, and god was truly that- the only worship they deserve is to have their worship thrown into a fire and burned to never rise again. Essentially, allowing for the trust to be accepted by humanity was but the beginning of a series of malevolent machinations. To what end would be unknowable, but nothing good in general. It would be the inverse of the muslim thought process which argues even if we do not know something's occurence, there may be good in it. I'm not sure if this would be pessimism or simply being realistic or optimism vs cynicism sometimes between the two approaches.
Some would likely call such a view bizarre, but others would likely call it liberation from oppression, the only logical way to see faith, and an end to the evils of faith. I do wonder sometimes....in the modern day, the very concept of god by some is seen as having been the source of all, or perhaps most, evils. Granted, governments that espoused atheism were hardly better, but one could easily argue they made a cult out of their leaders, and thus see that as some kind of faith and condemn that.
If a prophet were to be sent down today, they wouldn't be dealing with people who would see miracles and scoff at them being of demonic origin, they would argue that and that even if they were from god, there's no guarantee god is good, citing history as their defense, or analogies to god as being an abuser, or that faith in anything at all in a religious context is a harmful thing. I wonder sometimes how a prophet of the past would react to that sentiment. It's not as if people are worshipping themselves, and even if they did try that argument of being beholden to one's desires- people would probably argue back that such an argument usually is used to justify abuse of people by depriving them of freedoms and safety, citing examples to do so. Or perhaps arguing in that god's mercy always comes with a price, or maybe by arguing heaven and hell both are eldritch hellscapes that lead to loss of self and existential horrors, or that faith in itself demands orwellian adherence and mindless obedience in one way or another- thus, corruption in religious institutions and the stifling of free thought isn't a bug, but a feature of faith. Granted, I'm sure all of these could be argued against in one way or another.
Ultimately, I think overall, god must be seen as being of mercy firstly. Otherwise, if this is overpowered at all times by other attributes, we wind up with all kinds of uneasy implications.

2024.05.14 18:12 Jpwolfe99 PyMuPdf doesn't recognize every fillable element in a PDF form

I am trying to use Python to read in a PDF form so that I can fill all the elements and then create a new filled in PDF. I found code from this repo and everything works correctly for the most part, but some elements aren't being recognized. Below is what the form looks like when I am editing the elements: https://i.sstatic.net/oTn5wiGA.png
However, when I run my code most but not all of the elements get filled in. In this example I am filling each box with "STRING". https://i.sstatic.net/AQn06u8J.png
In my code, when I list all of the element names ("other, route_to_1, route_to_2, etc) all the names are correct and have been checked over and over. When I debug my code and look at the variable that stores all the form elements, it's simply misreading some of the elements. I am not sure what is causing this. Whether Acrobat made the form incorrectly, or if there's a problem with the code. Any help is appreciated. Here's the code I have:

2024.05.14 18:12 Crooked_Mantis Developer Intent or Death of the Author?

I've been thinking lately about how different players form of their own interpretations about Team ICO's works. And I think there are two main approaches to theories that get developed.
Players who focus in on the Developer Intent, and cling to various tidbits of information provided by old concept art, datamined demos, and interviews with Ueda. These players wonder specifically about what Ueda and the team members thought of these environments and characters. They want to know what the creators felt the story being told was about. These interpretations typically pull evidence from a lot of outside resources, citations, and even the influences that Ueda and the team might have pulled from at the time.
But others seem to remove factors of creation from their theory-crafting, looking at these games not as products made in a linear order by a team, but simply a set of stories to be interpreted and connected regardless of real world context. It's an approach very emblematic of the 'Death of the Author' concept. And weirdly enough, I think Ueda is in this camp, because he seems to be the absolute least interested in what his intent for these stories was at the time. He often describes his thoughts on them as his interpretations (or 'just one interpretation'), as though he wants to put himself on the same level as an audience member and de-emphasize his part as the creative lead.
But what is your approach to these narratives? Is developer intent important to your interpretation or do you think it shouldn't factor into things? Do you feel you're somewhere in the middle, or take different approaches depending on the subject?
Feel free to explain further in the comments.

Im looking for free places to play casual MTG in COMO. I see that the main game stores in town have commander nights, but they all appear to be paid entry sanctioned events. I'm wondering if anyone knows any places where folks meet up to play whatever format casually without the watchful eye of WOTC. My preferred formats are commander and cube, but I'm open to whatever. Alternately, is anyone else looking to form a playgroup?
