2024.06.09 05:23 Competitive-Cut3807 Attorney scrutinized after murder witness receives death threat

Prosecutors said someone unlawfully disclosed the name of at least one witness in a murder case that's scheduled to begin Tuesday in Albany.
ALBANY — Jasper Mills, a longtime criminal defense attorney in Albany, was warned by a judge Friday that he could be subject to a criminal contempt charge if he disclosed — even inadvertently — the identity of at least one witness in a pending murder case who received death threats after the confidential document identifying him was shared with the defendants and others.
The case, which is set for trial next week, involves four men who are charged with murder in the January 2021 shooting of Shanita Thomas, who was pregnant with her third child when she was gunned down at a Central Avenue party. Four others were wounded in the shooting.
Mills, a candidate for Albany County Family Court judge, represents 35-year-old Vramir Branch, who with three other defendants is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, weapons possession and evidence tampering in connection with Thomas' death.
At a hearing Friday in Albany County Court, Judge Andra Ackerman heard arguments from prosecutors on their motion for an order to have the court review boxes of documents that were seized from at least three of the defendants' jail cells at Albany County Jail this week. Prosecutors filed the motion after a witness in the case, who is in federal prison, learned that he had become the target of a death threat and was placed in protective custody.
Prosecutors are asking the court to review the materials to see if there are documents among those found in the cells that were subject to a protective order, and should not have been provided to the men.
As the hearing began, Mills stepped forward and appeared to take responsibility for what he described to the judge as an inadvertent disclosure of the witness information. He said that he had been discussing the witness with another client on Tuesday, a day after he received the information from prosecutors, and then placed the document on a conference table in his office as he juggled a meeting with three other clients who were in his office that day.
“Just so I can be clear here: Did you have documents that were subject to the protective order out on display when you had other individuals that have charges that you’re dealing with and speaking with others on that case … ?,” Ackerman asked Mills. “Who else was in that conference room? Who else had access to that document?”
Mills confirmed that he showed another client — who is not involved in the case — a copy of the document and asked that person what they knew about the witness in the murder case.
“There was a lot going on,” Mills told the judge. “I showed the individual the document. There was nothing in the protective order that said you can’t show it, it just said that you can’t distribute or disseminate it.”
Mills said the next day — Wednesday — an ex-girlfriend of his client in the murder case texted him an image of the document and asked him about the witness listed in the record, and whether that person had given a statement.
But that image, according to prosecutors, is different than another image of the document that was being distributed on social media websites this week.
Assistant District Attorney Jessica Blain-Lewis, one of the prosecutors in the case, told the judge that meant that someone had apparently distributed a second image of the document — and that it was not the image in the photograph that Mills claimed had been taken in his office.
As Mills confirmed to the judge that the image of the document the woman had texted to him had markings on it that he had made, she interrupted him and asked, “(Do) you think it is advisable for you to receive counsel before you continue talking? Because it appears to me that it’s going in a direction, and whether it’s negligence or whatever, but this could be … a severe violation of the protective order which could subject you to a criminal contempt (charge).”
Mills responded that he “didn’t disseminate or give anyone anything.”
“Don’t you think you have an obligation, pursuant to the protective order, to protect those documents?" the judge said. "And you’re telling me that you’re leaving them lying on a conference table in the open and going to another office for about an hour, meeting with other clients, that there won’t be an issue here?”
As Mills began to respond, he was interrupted by Daniel Smalls, another defense attorney in the case, who whispered in Mills' ear for about 20 seconds.
Mills then asked to approach the bench, and moments later he said in open court that he would not say anything more until consulting with an attorney.
As the hearing unfolded, the four defendants — Branch as well as Raa’jiem Coleman, Terrence Anthony and Marcelle Perry — looked on and said nothing. They were clad in jail clothing, and at least one of them had a few supporters in the courtroom.
Blain-Lewis, one of the prosecutors, then asked the judge if she could clarify some of the admissions that had just been made by Mills.
She noted that a thumb was visible in the image of the document that Mills said was photographed, apparently without his knowledge, while it was on a table in his office. But Blain-Lewis said the photo of the document that has been disseminated on social media sites “is not the same photo,” although the markings on the document that were made by Mills are the same.
The document, known as a “witness disclosure,” is often turned over by prosecutors to defense attorneys shortly before a trial begins. They generally list the names of witnesses and summarize their testimony. In this case, that document was subject to a protective order, which meant Mills could discuss it with his client beginning one week prior to the trial that is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Prosecutors in Albany routinely seek protective orders in cases involving murders, gangs and gun violence. Through the years, the district attorney's office has said that incidents of witness intimidation and death threats have caused many individuals to decline to testify in cases like this one.
The protective order prohibited Mills or any of the other defense attorneys from sharing a copy of the witness disclosure document with anyone, including their clients. Blain-Lewis said it also prohibited them from discussing the contents of that document with anyone but their client, although Mills admitted during Friday’s hearing that he had talked to someone else about one of the witnesses.
“What that means, your honor, is that someone has an actual copy of this document,” Blain-Lewis told the judge as she explained that there are two images of it. “I do believe that this court understands the length at which defendants will go to stop people from testifying, and in this case we had a legitimate, real death threat, and the effect that this is going to have not only on that witness but (the) trial itself concerns … my entire office.”
The case is assigned to acting state Supreme Court Justice Roger D. McDonough; Ackerman presided over Friday’s hearing because he was not available. Ackerman granted the order allowing the court to review the materials that were seized from the defendants' jail cells.
If there are documents in those materials that were subject to the protective order, it could lead to further investigation of how they were disclosed and by whom.
A violation of a protective order could lead to a criminal contempt charge, which is a misdemeanor crime. It may also be subject to review by the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Appellate Division, Third Department in Albany, which investigates allegations of misconduct by attorneys.
Thomas, 35, was an aspiring nurse and a promoter of her friends’ businesses who grew up in Albany. The father of her oldest son, Elijah Jr., was Elijah Cancer. Cancer was a former gang member turned anti-violence advocate for 518 SNUG. He was shot and killed breaking up a dispute at a party in July 2018. No one has ever been charged in connection with his death.
Court records indicate all four defendants charged with killing Thomas have lengthy criminal records, including convictions for violent crimes and weapons charges.
Anthony and Perry previously served time in federal prison after being convicted in a racketeering case against a South End gang known as the Original Gangsta Killas. They pleaded guilty in 2010.
Branch previously served time in state prison for attempted murder, weapon charges and promoting prison contraband.

2024.06.09 05:21 Director360 [MS] Election Lies Interactive E-Book

The folded newspaper was not much rain cover from the onset showers that were undoubtedly about to come from the looming storm. Nonetheless, it was all Miranda had to protect her hair and makeup as she ran inside the opulent state office building. She was concerned that her hair would get wet; and with a fresh perm, that could disastrous.
She was so used to only speaking to patients in the confines of her home office; not worrying what anyone thought of her with no makeup on and hair tied up in a bun, that being concerned about things like foundation and extensions seemed like a novel annoyance.
Miranda had made the trip to Hillsborough to attend her cousin Andrea’s wedding the following day. And as excited as everyone was, no one in the party had thought to go and pick up the paperwork for the marriage license, so the job fell to her.
As she walked through security, she felt as though she were a leaf in a whirlwind of activity that she intuitively knew was unusual for the space. The place was packed, and she had to avoid bumping into people who were otherwise unaware of anyone else’s existence.
As she placed her keys and other items in the small container on the conveyor belt beside the metal detector, she leaned in and asked a friendly but hapless-looking guard about the day’s ongoing procedures.
“Oh…it’s election day, ma’am.”
“Great,” she thought to herself.
It was like being in a Bruegel painting, an array of scenes around her all happening simultaneously happening. A man shaking hands and giving speeches, a woman filming herself giving a campaign message, another man arguing with security over a pair of keys that he wasn’t supposed to have.
Miranda hoped that she would be able to beat the storm and be back on her way to her Aunt Jess’ house before the rain started to seriously fall, but this was the type of task that had the potential to be easy and seamless or dreadfully bureaucratic.
As she stood in line, she heard a commotion from inside the clerk’s office.
“It’s the law!” a woman yelled. “I don’t care what your personal beliefs are. You work for the state, and that means you work for the citizens of this city; that includes me!”
The woman emerged from the office and was gorgeous. She wore a fur coat that swayed as she walked and had piercing eyes that were hidden by a large pair of sunglasses just as quickly as she had emerged.
“I’m sure she’ll play the race card,” another person in line scoffed, referring to the woman’s complexion, though she neither appeared to be white nor black.
“I heard she’s been spending a lot of time with a particular candidate,” another patron chided.
Miranda reached in her pocket and pulled out a pair of earbuds. “None of my business…”
Just as she reached the front of the line, the lights went out as thunder crashed and lightning flashed outside the building.
A deep sense of dread filled Miranda’s stomach as she heard the loud sound of hail hitting the state office’s roof and windows.
“My goodness,” she sighed. “I’d better call Lucy and let her know I’ll be longer than expected,” she thought to herself.
Just as she took out her phone to search for her aunt’s contact, the red and blue lights and the sound of an alarm went off. Confused, she searched the faces of the other patrons only to hear the voice of a man in a black shirt and pants with a badge directing everyone to the center atrium and away from all the windows.
A woman in a pair of flowing purple pants, a white blouse, and short blonde hair raised her voice and attempted to reassure everyone that everything would be okay.
“Everyone…Everyone,” she shouted. “We will have this mishap sorted in just a few minutes. Just remain calm, and we’ll be able to finish out the counting of the ballots. We appreciate yo…”
She was interrupted by an overweight man in a finely cut suit. “My staff is attempting to get to the bottom of things, and we’ll get the electricity back on as soon as possible. Just bear with us,” he boomed as he stood on the steps leading to the platform in the center of the room.
Miranda noticed the sly smile that crossed his face as he turned and looked at the blonde woman in the blouse. One-upping her had brought him a certain amount of pleasure, and the tension between them was palpable as she shot him a death glance that bounced off of him like a lone BB pellet.
Pleased with himself and chest out, he returned to a group of cohorts. A very serious man in a gray suit approached him while attempting to clean his shirt. His head was shaved and his beard trimmed; he hung a pair of sunglasses from his coat pocket. He was the type of man whose eyes were seen far less than they were exposed.
“Mr. Henly,” one of his minions said out loud, getting the blowhard’s attention and gesturing to the man in the gray suit. The large man quickly made room. The man in the gray suit walked up to Harold, leaned in, and whispered something into his ear that made his face grow hard. Harold reached inside his suit pocket and pulled out a thick manila envelope, surreptitiously handing it to the man in the gray suit and patting him on the shoulder before the man disappeared once again into the crowd.
Just then, the lights came back on as if there was a renewed sense of life in a world where time seemed to have stopped. Color returned to the building and sounds began to fill the atrium.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we’re going to need your cooperation,” a handsome African American man said with a certain amount of trepidation in his voice. He took the main stage in the atrium and gestured to everyone to garner their attention. “It would appear as though we have encountered a clerical error,” he said.
A confused murmur rippled throughout the crowd.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Harold bellowed loud enough for everyone to hear, once again making himself the center of attention.
The man sighed. “It would appear…” he paused, “as if several boxes of ballots have gone missing.”
A unilateral chatter began, and concerned looks were exchanged between everyone in the atrium.
“What kind of a clown show are you running here, Pennyworth?” Harold boomed.
“I’m not running this election, Harold, I’m a…”
“No, you’re not capable of running anything. I’ll take over and get this figured out,” he interrupted.
“You’ll do no such thing. You, like me, are a candidate and are prohibited from participating in the election process,” he continued. “But someone had to make the announcement as you were too busy here shaking hands to know what was going on in the building.
“Everyone, unfortunately, until we get this sorted out…no one can leave the building until the ballots are found.”
A unilateral disgruntled sigh filled the large auditorium.
Disappointed, Miranda thought quickly and approached the security office.
Poking her head through the door, she looked for anyone that she thought could help.
“Hello…um…excuse me,” she called out.
Inside was a guard with an untucked shirt and a half-eaten eclair speaking with an older janitor leaning on his broom over the security desk.
“You didn’t hear it from me,” the janitor said with a playful nod, “but I think she and her assistant have something going on, and her husband is a bit salty about the entire thing.” the old man said. “I mean, your wife leaving you is one thing, but her leaving you for your assistant, and a woman for that matter,” he pursed his lips and raised his eyebrows. “I guess I’m just ol’ school, cause that wouldn’ta happened to me!”
“Mr. Jones, quit gossiping,” the guard laughed. “Now what was it that you needed to tell me?”
“I…I done gone and forgot,” he said, frustrated. “It was about her assistant,” he scratched his face trying to remember. “I thought I saw…I thought I saw her…” the older man looked down trying to remember.
The security guard turned his attention toward Miranda.
“Hi…uh…how can I help you?”
“Hi,” Miranda said with a forced smile. “My name is Miranda Fletcher. I work with law…”
“Hey,” the guard said with a long drawn out smile. “Do you know Andrea?”
“Yes…yes!” she stammered. “She’s my cousin!” she said excitedly with renewed hope that she could parlay her family name to get out of this.
“Are you here for the wedding?” he asked cheerfully.
“Bridesmaid, guilty as charged,” she said with a grin and a curtsy.
“How do you know Andrea?” she said with widened eyes and genuine curiosity.
“Oh…, Andrea dumped me six months ago to start dating Alex Tate,” he said with a blank stare and goofy smile.
“Oh,” Miranda stared. She was like a deer in headlights, unable to formulate her next words. In an awkward silence, the two continued to stare and nod at one another for what felt like minutes instead of seconds.
The janitor, feeling the awkwardness of the situation, decided to see himself out.
In a sudden break in silence, the guard continued, “But that’s all in the past now,” he said with a warm laugh that left Miranda still a bit stilted, but more at ease.
“We just weren’t right for one another, and I don’t hold any grudges. I’m Billy, by the way.”
“Miranda Fletcher,” she replied.
“How’s your aunt?” he asked.
“Ah…you know, surrounded by her books,” she said, trying to make light of the situation.
“I was just going to say, I work with law enforcement. I can promise you that I had nothing to do with these ballots being taken.” She assured him. “
You can track me on the security cameras to confirm my whereabouts. Is it possible for me just to go about my business and leave?”
“Yeah…about that…our security cameras have been out almost all day. Worst day this could have happened,” he said. “We’ve got technicians coming to take a look at our system tomorrow, but otherwise, we’ve got no way to verify where anybody was.”
Miranda sighed.
“You said you worked with law enforcement?” the guard repeated.
“Yes,” Miranda replied exasperated as she tried sending a text to her cousin letting her know what was going on. “I’m a forensic psychologist. I do profiles of criminals ranging from fraudulent hedge fund managers to serial killers.”
“Wow…well, that’s more than we could have asked for,” he said. “Look, between you and me, those ballot boxes didn’t go ‘missing,’” he said with air quotes. “Somebody is trying to rig this election.”
Miranda’s face dropped as she stared Billy in the eye.
“And nobody’s leaving this building until those ballots are found,” he said with a despondent gaze.
“Who are the candidates?” Miranda asked with a sigh. “Who’s the loudmouth?”
“Oh…that’s Harold Henly,” Billy said. “He can be a bit much, but I like some of his policies,” he said with a bit of enthusiasm. “But he can rub some people the wrong way.”
“And that man in the gray suit?” she asked.
“Yeah…that’s his associate,” Billy said. “Earlier in the day, we had to confiscate some city hall keys he had in his possession.”
“And the blonde with the short hair?” Miranda asked.
“Oh…that’s Andrea Milton,” he explained with a comically southern accent and scrunched up face as if smelling something distasteful. “She’s a Democrat.”
Miranda nodded graciously.
Billy whispered, “She’s the one ol’ Mr. Jones was gossiping about just before you walked in.”
“Oh…and there’s Carlton Pennyworth. He’s a nice enough guy; smart as a whip, but I don’t know if Hillsborough is ready for him just yet,” Billy added. “There’s some real history with his family in this town though.”
Miranda feigned interest.
“Legend has it that Harold’s great great grandfather changed their last name in the city’s ledger to Penny, telling him that’s exactly how much he was worth. And it just stuck”
Miranda winced at the story feeling a sense of disgust at Henly’s ancestors actions; putting a whole new context to their interaction in the atrium.
“I’m going to take a walk around and see what I can find out,” Miranda told Billy.
“Sure, if you have any more questions that I or one of the other guards can answer, just let us know.”
Miranda took a walk around to talk to some of the characters and explore the building.

2024.06.09 05:18 Illustrious_Log3986 Is it my fault that we broke up or is my ex setting an impossible standard?

The reason my ex (30m) said for breaking up with me (30f) was that he couldn’t see a future with me because the bad times make him question the good times. “It’s 90% good and 10% bad but the 10% is so intense it makes me question the 90%”
He hates when we argue but I feel like he was setting an impossible standard for how arguments were supposed to go. I feel like he wasn’t leaving any room for me to have a reaction to something stressful like I had to keep my cool and be calm and chill 100% of the time. I don’t like arguing but I accept that it happens in a relationship but with him if it got heated at all (on either side) if i interrupted him, if I raised my voice, if he felt i was overreacting that was a wrap. And if it was a wrap he would be like f*** this. He didn’t want to have a discussion at all until each party was totally calm and ready to accept responsibility for their part. Which would oftentimes take hours or days. And while we were doing that more (having quiet calm discussion), sometimes things would just get heated because it was a stressful situation. He said he just didn’t feel like he could support me the way I needed to be supported and he didn’t want to be with someone who argues intensely like that.
I had my own things that I needed from him as a partner that I felt like he wasn’t doing but I was willing to be patient as he worked through those things.
I’ll note that we never use profanity at each other, never name calling, never anything physical like throwing things it would just be a heated conversation.
TL;DR: I feel like my ex put impossible standards on how we were arguing but should I have met them? Any conversation that would start to get heated had to be shut down or I had to be totally calm in order for us to talk. I feel like that didn’t leave any room for me to have any feelings.

[ [FIRST] [NEXT>]

Season 10 “Days of Fury” - Episode 4 “Aftermath of Lesser Chances”

Talek was not your everyday doctor. Few people would claim to have three different species as parents and somehow make it land true, and honestly few people would use ‘mother’ and ‘father’ to refer to four different people. Still, that gave the harchen both an unusual name and an unusual upbringing.
Talek had done more than just follow on mama Heren’s pawsteps, medical college on Colia was just the start. He served in the First Response Fleet, he saw the worst the galaxy had to offer, he saw more than one world meet its end, he had to operate in conditions even the yotul would break out the word ‘primitive’ for. He thought he would have gotten away from the battlefield finding work on Skalga. Solgalick’s Mercy was proving him wrong.
“Move, move, move” he jumps on the wall to dodge a moving stretcher, scrambling on all fours on it for a few steps before jumping out of it and continuing his sprint towards the admission area.
The admission area was usually an ordered thing, patients would come in and quickly and efficiently be directed to where they needed to go. It was still as ordered as it could be, which wasn’t much. Talek did not have time to look at the patients, he had been directly called for a reason- The screeching deafening everyone was the reason, a tilfish was strapped as well as he could be to a stretcher not fit for his body plan, screaming their lungs out in pain.
Without hesitation, Talek walks up to the gurney and brings his head closer to the tilfish’s thorax as he brings a paw to the side of his visor, the patient’s piercing screams inducing in him a minor headache “Did you give ‘em painkillers?!” he has to yell at a nearby nurse. He’d expected a report on the patient present in his visor’s data, but with this much intake all the information he could expect would come from the lungs of his coworkers.
The tilfish’s accelerated heartbeat could be felt in the vibration of their chest “Already, as much as we could but it doesn’t seem to work” the nurse answers. Talek brings a paw up to the side of his face, commanding again the visor he’s wearing and causing a single warning to come to life in his periphery ‘Busy’ is all it says.
With all of the possible sensor suites present here busy with other patients in triage he proceeds with the only tools he has left, his own self. He puts a paw over the tilfish’s chest, but got no further response. The next was touching their joints, but the screaming neither changes nor ceases. Further up is an attempt at touching their neck, aside from the strains of the screaming he can sense nothing else- But a minor spark of recognition strikes him. Very gently he brings a toe closer to their antennae.
While the tilfish does not respond for a moment, the instant his toe makes contact with the organ the tilfish’s head jerks aside, the scream turning into a gargle for a moment before it stops for a moment- Only for the patient to begin retching “Antennae connective tissue damage, overstimulation” those words are mostly to himself, he then raises a toe to his visor again “Operation room four, sensory deprivation gear, failing that a fucking water bucket will do” he howls over the renewed screams and begins pulling the stretcher.
Carrying the wailing tilfish he and the nurse quickly make their way through the corridors and up the elevator to the second floor, and from there it’s a quick trip to the operation room number four. In a moment his visor has synched up with the operation system, but their first action involves the least advanced object in the room: A green water bucket.
Talek swiftly grabs the bucket and brings it up, dunking the tilfish’s antennae on it. The patient calms down considerably, breathing hard and fast still, and gives them the chance they need to move him safely. As Talek holds the bucket in place the nurse carefully drags the stretcher until it connects with the operation theater, then he brings his face nearby the fluid “Can you hear me?”
The patient has an audible flinch, yet they manage to answer “Y-yes”
“You’ve suffered antennae damage, connective tissue” Talek keeps his voice steady and professional “The only solution is extensive regenerative treatment, it takes months, maybe over a year. But it won’t stop what you’re feeling right now”
“C-can you- Anything? The noise- THE BUZZING- I thought it’d go away-”
“Two choices, either a psychotropic or we cut the connective tissue. One will keep you dazed, similar to predator disease medicine, the other will cut you from your sense of smell and hearing.” This was hardly the worst bargain he had to offer to a patient, Talek couldn’t say they still moved him.
“Can’t- Argh” the tilfish winces again, their arms jerk against the restraint- They gag for a moment “Cut it out, CUT IT OUT” he was beginning to shout again.
It takes some effort to fully sedate the patient, Talek had to let go of the temporary sensory deprivation equipment, and the nurse had to physically restrain one of the tilfish’s arms until he could get an injector on their joint- One of the few vulnerable places unprotected by chitin. From there, it took a few more seconds until they had passed out and the operation could start.
For Talek’s skills it was simple, particularly with access to the hospital’s operating tools. He chose to use his own paws to guide the laser cutter, with the tiny camera set at the emitter as guidance he makes first an initial incision on the chitin protecting the connection, and then using weaker light a quick incision finishing the job the resonant frequencies had begun, fully severing that sensory organ’s connection to the rest of the body’s nervous system.
It takes little more than a few seconds to finish wrapping the exposed section with protective cloth “Take him to a free recovery room, send out a message for admin to book his treatment” the nurse needed no bedside manners, and they’re off as soon as the stretcher is detached from the operating theater.
That very same moment a red warning flashes on his visor, another emergency call, and he begins sprinting again. In the span of time it took for him to get the tilfish treated the corridors outside had become even more busy, there were people being treated for cuts and bruises right on the corridor, nurses were evaluating people and sending them to treatment rooms. Talek knew the distant noises and smell of ash were a simple psychosomatic response of his own body to the situation, unfortunately there were people in more need of aid than him right now.
More than once he had to use the wall climbing technique he’d honed so well to avoid interrupting anyone on the hall, and more than once he took advantage of his small stature to weave between longer sets of legs.
He arrives in time to see a stretcher being pulled in by a takkan nurse, in a trained move the nurse offers his arm to him and Talek hops up to get a better view of the patient. The sight in front of him was… Talek shakes his head, clearing the phantom mangling out of his sight and focusing on the wounded venlil on the stretcher. Orange stained the side of their head, their breathing was slow and ragged but little else could be seen at first glance.
It doesn’t take long for Talek’s visor to start showing more data as they approach one of the treatment rooms, as the sensors in the room spin to life an overlay comes over the venlil showing everything their thick fur was hiding, fractured bones in the leg, two broken ribs and most worryingly: Behind the closed lid of their left eye was nothing.
“Bone splints and foam, sealant gel” he states plainly for the nurse as he jumps off and reaches into the small tool cart. Busy as the hospital had become, not everyone had access to a full surgery suite and it’s not like he needed it right now. The first order of business was dealing with the eye.
First he lowers his head closer to listen to the patient’s breathing, then with care he opens the good eye to look at him and confirm the man’s unconscious state. Once done, he uses the same paw to open the damaged eye to find what is best described as a mushed orange paste in its place. The process of handling that was simple, slowly work to separate the damaged mass that was once an eye with a forceps, lift it and finally carefully snip off the optical nerve. By the time he had finished he just had to offer his paw out for the nurse to hand him the sealant gel, the translucent material used to coat the interior of the empty eyesocket to prevent infection.
As the nurse proceeded to wrap the eye, Talek progressed to the leg. With a quick hand and a shaver he removes the fur around the fracture as he analyzes the overlay from the sensors, he’s working almost on automatic at this point as his next step is to perform an incision on the skin granting him access to the muscle and bone beneath. The process to remove bone fragments is rapid for him, two dozen little fragments of bone that had become lodged in the muscle, and one major leg vein had to be sewn shut with bio-absorbable suture.
The next step was to realign the bone, then inject the bone foam in the fractures so they would heal rapidly. Next, closing the incision and stapling it closed and then slipping the splint around the leg. He stops for half a second staring at the advanced split he’d just slipped into the venlil’s leg, the equipment could adjust itself to the wearer according to set parameters to ensure the leg remained properly positioned until the bones had healed.
He used to have memorized the right parameters to input for a venlil, the system would adjust the rest to the details of the user. But now he had two sets of parameters to choose from, this man was here right now because there was this difference. Talek’s mind is blank for a moment, he had to make a decision right now as first response, and he inputs the old values.
Just focus on keeping them stable, he can fix himself later if wants. Also that’d make the legs uneven, why did you even hesitate?
He steps back from the stretcher “I’ll take him to the recovery ward, take a second doc” the nurse says as they leave. Talek… Would like to say he doesn’t need that second, but he does. He raises his paws up to his face, staring at the orange stains over his pure white scales… He’d grown so used to shifting into a white color to better see anything he’d need to clean that it had become his normal idle coloration.
Another warning on his visor tells him he can’t keep doing this for much longer, so he hurries to the washing station until his scales are white again. He doesn’t need to rush through the corridors this time, however, as the patient was being brought to the very same room he was in a second ago. And this time the warning came with a report, the influx of new victims must be slowing down if triage was finding time for at least a basic report over the system instead of just shouting something.
“Krakotl, female, young, broken bones, torn muscles, wing” he mutters to himself as he walks back to the room. It doesn’t take much longer until the venlil nurse drags the stretcher in, and a final detail about the patient that the report failed to mention: She was wet, completely soaked. Also, she was aware.
Quickly enough the sensor suite in the room was reading his patient, and Talek saw signs of nothing unusual. Or he did not for a fragment of a second, before his mind reminded him that the multiple fractures, torn flesh and lost feathers were supposed to be unusual. He quickly approaches the avian, apprising each wound- The arm had fractured in four places including the shoulder joint, from the damage whatever crushed her bones had proceeded to attempt to remove it by force leading to torn muscles and complete loss of functionality, she was cradling it close to her chest with the other wing. “What happened” he asks bluntly.
“T-the water…” she says, coughing immediately after. “I didn’t think water was so hard, it was like being hit with a car” she winces again, the involuntary shoulder jostling her arm “A-and the shocks…”
At that mention Talek comes closer to inspect the exposed skin of her wing, the water had managed to rip a great deal of feathers and flay her more sensitive skin, and in addition to that there was further markings indicative of electrical burns.
But those are older scars.
The first process Talek goes through is applying a local anesthetic as he explains the procedure about to happen “I will have to reset your bones first and foremost, it should be painless with this anesthetic” he doesn’t wait for confirmation, of course, before injecting the fluid on her wing. After a few seconds of wait for the medicine to work he gently holds the wing and feels along the arm bones until he finds the fractures. Simple and clean breaks, easily put back into position which won’t even need bone foam to heal quickly. No access to wing braces would ordinarily be an issue, however, combining the feather loss and the necessity to use treated bandages for the damaged skin makes using the bandaging as bracing an easy choice.
Then, it was time for the most difficult part, which he needed the stabilized wing for. The shoulder joint had thankfully mostly survived, the bones had their heads slightly damaged and the connective tissue was torn asunder, but nothing the body couldn’t fix in time. The process was easy enough here, first removing the first-aid sealant gel, then applying a small amount of bone foam on the heads of the bones, some regenerative gel to induce faster recovery of the connective tissue of the joint, then readjust the elbow into place and suture it closed.
By the time he’d finished he saw the krakotl hadn’t ceased staring at the process, seemingly unfazed at seeing her arm being stitched together. He takes a moment to look closer, analyzing her eye’s reactions to a small light, ensuring there is no possible cognitive damage. “Take her to the recovery ward” he says calmly.
“Th-thanks doctor” the krakotl says, and then coughs again.
“Just my job” Talek turns to the nurse “Check what she’s being fed, there’s some minor throat damage. She must have inhaled some of the water” he says before finally walking out of the room.
And then, an emergency call pings on Talek’s visor. He’s off through the corridors again, but this time there are fewer legs to weave through, and almost no obstructions on his path. The visor’s augmented reality guides him towards the right room, not like he didn’t already memorize the paths of the hospital. It was an operating room, cleaning up and getting ready took mere moments and soon he had made his way inside to be greeted with a human in the stretcher attached to the operating system.
The staff had already put a tube down his mouth, from the looks of it towards his respiratory system, but it was draining too much blood. By now his visor had synched with the sensors already, but just the peripheral gear wasn’t showing enough data for this, so with a simple paw movement he calls down a sensor arm from the ceiling and brings it closer to the human’s body to examine. The more detailed scan shows signs of blood buildup as well as fluid pressure in the chest cavity, so he quickly tears open the patient’s clothing with a scissor and is welcomed with a pale skin filled with a large blue-black patch.
Talek brings the sensor arm closer, keeping a close eye in the readouts… “Broken rib, punctured heart, pressure. I need a drain” he commands mechanically as he calls down a precision cutter from the ceiling- This time he’ll need to use mechanized assistance. As the staff hurries to bring the additional piece of gear he readies the sharpened cutter by the man’s chest, closes his mouth with certainty and initiates the incision. The pressure of the built up blood causes a small, temporary spray of blood to erupt from the initial incision that manages to stain the left side of his body but he continues nonetheless, opening up the human’s chest cavity and putting in the draining tube to remove the excess blood.
A rib had broken and the fragment had lodged itself in the man’s heart, though the bleeding was profuse the bone itself was doing a decent job at keeping most of the blood from spilling, his heart continued to beat in rhythm. The process was simple, in theory, and in practice as well but the execution would need to be both quick and precise.
First was preparing a manipulator arm to remove the bone piece from the heart, then using three other, slimmer, manipulators holding the edges of the wound he pulls out the bone fragment and commands the smaller manipulators to hold the wound closed. The loss of blood was minimal. The next step required suturing the wound tightly closed and applying an absorbable sealing tissue to prevent further blood loss. Will require followup, but everything that can be done for the wounded heart was done.
Then, the rib required attending. The fracture wasn’t clear, but not unrecoverable. The bone fragment could be re-placed in position, and the addition of bone foam and sealing tissue would ensure the rib would eventually recover, the severed cartilage would need to go unattended for now and might require further treatment.
Finishing the process, then, was to finally close up the skin of the patient and properly suture it, a process made much faster with the usage of the precision tools. Once done, he looks down at the human he’d been operating on, the crimson stains on his white scales, the clearly pained face of the unconscious man whose lungs were being drained of fluid buildup by a tube shoved down his threat.
Talek’s toes twitch, and he steps back from the stretcher so that the staff can move him away to the recovery ward “K-” the man’s voice fights against the tube on his throat “Kichi…” somehow still retaining some consciousness despite his state, but he can’t say anything else before he’s out of the room. But Talek had no reprieve, immediately another cart arrived into the room and was attached to the operation rig, but this one was even more worrisome.
He gives a command for the operation rig to send the current toolset for sterilization and replace them with a new clean set, for the few seconds the process took Talek stares at the new patient before him. The sort of patient every doctor fears, especially those working emergencies: A dossur.
A being so small is infinitely fragile, and dossur are famous among doctors for being a lifeform with only extremes. They could survive things that’d have killed larger people five times over, but anything that could cause them any damage would cause critical, nearly life-ending damage. There was no middle ground with them, and this woman seemed to be teetering towards the critical. Visibly, her outward wounds were her right leg, which had been crushed by some external force, and the right side of her torso had become a single massive bruise. The blood covering her, however, was red. But a sound was what called up Talek’s attention the most: That of her breathing.
He couldn’t use his senses for this and the tool suite had been swapped, so he lowers a scanner arm towards her and begins gathering information. The first thing to notice was that her leg’s bones weren’t broken, but instead completely pulverized beyond recovery, the bruise that was the right side of her body merely indicated whatever happened was pure blunt force as her innards indicated ruptured organs in that area from the impact- But despite all that the most worrisome were her lungs. The sensors’ imaging was showing her lungs working overtime and yet her breathing sounded just plain wrong and as if she wasn’t able to draw in enough breath.
There was no time to keep researching, she needed aid in breathing first and foremost, so Talek carefully uses a mechanized tube pushed through her mouth. Usually for larger people the tube could be manually inserted but for someone so small he decided to use one that had its own powered articulation as well as a micro camera to help with guidance, which had proven to be a wise decision as he could see the damage to her throat in the process.
There were quite a few plants that were mildly poisonous, and of course Talek knew that people of all sorts enjoyed such toxins. It was just a part of being people, some people simply enjoyed consuming irritants, a classic example being capsaicin. But the dosage is always important, and the effects such irritants cause vary between species, dossur in particular could suffer sores in their soft tissue from an excess of capsaicin. He had seen capsaicin poisoning on dossur before, but he had never seen the effects manifest themselves in the respiratory system and as he continued to push the respiratory tube down towards her lungs he saw more and more damage.
Talek had, this paw, finally seen something he had not seen before. This woman had inhaled enough capsaicin to damage her respiratory system- And if enough of it got into her blood flow, she would die. The clock was ticking and all the wounds that had built up on this woman prevented a proper treatment of the other.
“Prepare a dialysis machine, now! Make sure there is a filter for capsaicin!” Talek says to the staff with a mechanical voice.
He flicks his wrists and calls down the entire surgery equipment, sets it to maximum sensitivity and starts- This woman will need an external dialysis until her system has been purged of the literally deadly amount of capsaicin she had inhaled, but she couldn’t be put into a dialysis machine until the ruptured organs were re-stitched so the first order of business was initiating an incision on her torso, the process was quick and had machine-compensated precision.
Next, the damaged organs had to be sutured. There was more than one, the intestine had suffered damage, the bladder had ruptured but not been completely devastated and one of the kidneys was beyond saving, so he begins suturing quickly while one of the staff uses a suction tube to clean the pooling blood and humors. There wasn’t much time to do what was needed, the kidney had to be removed with a laser cutter, the intestine left to find its own position alone and the bladder needed a layer of absorbable cover to prevent a possible leaking. Anything else would have to wait until her blood had been cleansed.
The sutures on her skin were still professional, but they were quick. The next step was getting a good access point to her blood, one entrance and one exit. For the required volume, especially given their size, there were very few places the needles could find purchase- With machine-assisted precision he gently drives a very small, thin needle on the patient’s neck, and a second one on her waist. With the procedure done he steps back “Take her to dialysis, now” the staff detach the operation cart and start to move her away.
Talek stares at the dossur being moved, and without thinking brings a paw up to his visor- He couldn’t. Something in him wanted to know who this person was, something told him there was a story here, but he knew he shouldn’t. They were just victims, if they were anything else for him then he wouldn’t be able to work, if he cared then he wouldn’t be able to treat them well. He brings his paw away from his visor, and stares at it.
White scales stained red and green, sharp claws on the tip of terrifying digits. They’re no different from pieces of meat.
Talek shakes his head hard, then brings his paw to the side of his visor, summoning up the identification of the patient just as they’re about to bring the dossur out of the door. He stares at the nametag by her, ‘Kichi’ it says, and soon she vanishes past the door.
He continues to stare at the door as his breathing speeds up. But that process is short-circuited as another emergency signal is reported, he inhales a sharp breath and heads to the cleaning room as he commands the operating tools to cycle again.
By the time he had returned there was a new patient waiting, this one was a venlil with silver fur. No obvious external injuries, but his breathing was clearly troubled. “They got stickyfoam on their face” it was a human nurse that had brought them in “Sticky substance that turns solid, needs a special solvent.” The nurse holds a small canister out “First aid got him mostly breathing without need of a tracheostomy, but just barely”
Talek nods, once again calling down the surgical tools. The patient was quite clearly sedated, a necessity as he’d be panicking from the lack of breath. Talek took a second to recognize how often he had to operate on the airways of people this paw; it seems that whatever they were doing in the chaos outside aimed only at the most fragile parts of bodies, every wound had been failures of the most sensitive systems of the body.
This time the first step was unusual, the nurse needed to rig the solvent into the surgical tools. While the set of instruments at the tip of the tube meant to enter the patient included a spray for medicinal compounds it wasn’t made to normally utilize ad-hoc materials, but the nurse was inventive and jury-rigged a solution by replacing one of the anesthetic canisters with the the solvent, it suffered from a loss of pressure and that particular operating arm would need a complete maintenance cycle afterwards, but it worked.
Then, he began guiding the articulated tube down the venlil’s mouth. The process was slow, he needed to first spray the green mass that had solidified in many parts, from the roof of the mouth to the between teeth and under the tongue, before using the forceps and scissor tools to remove pieces that would be sucked out from the cavity by the suction tool.
Clearing the mouth was easy, and merely practice for the process later in more fragile parts. He then proceeded to guide the tube down the throat, he could see a small passage for air, but the blockage was easily ninety percent of the space of the throat. The process to soften, cut and remove the green mass continued to be slow and careful, though the position of the patient precluded any from falling further down the throat.
Some pieces did not let go with ease as regardless of how much care he had a few had reacted with the mucous of the throat, becoming firmly attached and eventually causing a wound when removed. Those were quickly treated with some superficial sealant gel and should lead to no more than discomfort when breathing and eating for a while.
When the process was completed, he finally slowly removes the tube from the patient’s mouth and waits. Slowly, he can hear the man’s breathing become fuller and less ragged. “I think this is the last serious case we got, doctor” the nurse looks down at him “Don’t know how you do it”
“I don’t either” Talek sighs with emotion “Get him to the recovery ward” he says, following him out of the room as he carries the stretcher. However, as they exit the operation room there is a venlil waiting out there, her silvery fur is of a different shade than that of the patient, she’s dressed in a strange set of black plates indicating she was probably one of the ones on the side of the law outside “Yes?” he says, with his professional tone.
“I… I just wanted to know how he’s doing…”
“Family?”
“N-no… No. It’s just- I… I caused that, and I need to know if he’s alright”
Talek shakes his head slightly, causing the venlil’s ears to fold back “Nothing long-term, the first response was fast enough to prevent any damage by hypoxia and cleaning up that substance wasn’t difficult. Please avoid doing the same again in the future”
“Y-yes… Yes… Thank you”
Talek waves dismissively at the officer before continuing to head out. He finds the corridors to be a lot more orderly now, how long had passed since this all began? He’d lost track. He passes by the admission area, finding it still full but no life-threatening wounds.
Then he walks outside, looking to the sides of the street. Behind him, Solgalick’s Mercy stood tall and unbroken, every other building around it a pile of rubble the buildings around surprisingly unblemished despite the damaged cars, upturned trashcans and copses littering the street. Off in the distance the city hall exterminator’s building was still blazing.
I wonder… When will I ever leave Lithan’s Orchard? Half the galaxy was not far enough to leave… Maybe I just have to accept I never will.
Once again he shakes his head to clear his thoughts, turns around, and heads back inside.
[ [FIRST] [NEXT>]
It is a misnomer to call them non-lethal, because the living body is a fragile thing, and even the gentlest touch can wreck havok on it's balance. And yet, at times, you must be firm, and harmful.
But even the least chances are nor impossible, and others will have to live with the consequences of your actions.

2024.06.09 05:17 noelekim How to prevent Facebook's algorithm from deleting what you want to post on your own page

The problem: Every week I publish a newsletter on Blogspot. On a Facebook page that I created, I post the title of the newsletter, its URL and a brief extract from one item in the current newsletter to draw attention to it. Today the Facebook algorithm removed my post every time I attempted to post and re-post it, with the following warning:"It looks like you tried to get likes, follows, shares or video views in a misleading way. Your post goes against our Community Standards on spam." The point is, my very brief weekly post simply draws attention to my newsletter. It is not spam in any way, shape or form nor does it mislead in any way. The diagnosis: From experience, it seems that Facebook's algorithm dislikes repetition. So if all my weekly posts start in the same way - same title, same URL - the algorithm goes: "Aha! Repetition, therefore spam", regardless of the fresh content that follows the header. In other words, the algorithm understands frequency but not context. The solution: I eventually succeeded in posting the extract from my newsletter by deleting the header with the name of the newsletter and its URL. No repetition. no problem. My Facebook page carries the URL under Intro on the left. Hopefully readers will notice it there.

2024.06.09 05:14 PlayingWhiteKnight [M4F] A Career In Pro-Wrestling (Long Term)

Hi there!
I'm looking for writing partners interested in setting up some original guy/established woman in pro wrestling roleplays. It'd be great if you're looking to be silly and have a mix of comedy and romance to go along with the action. I want to work on characters and the general story a bit before starting up anything. I'm looking to do the plot below, though I'm open to others:
Alex is a new talent, the son of a Hall of Famer and one of the newest talents that WWE (or AEW, or another federation) has signed and is using prominently in the modern era. He's catching on quick with fans and even veterans taken notice. It's no surprise that Alex is loving the attention, and he's especially been enjoying a certain someone's.
As Alex embarks on his dream career, he finds himself continually bumping into someone else on the roster. Someone he’s known about for ages and can honestly say he’s been a fan of for awhile. There’s electricity between them each time they speak, neither can deny it, but in the hyper competitive world of Professional Wrestling, is there really time to split focus between taking over the sports entertainment world and love?
This is the main story. Note we can blow this up to include the entire wrestling world.
Regarding how soon our characters actually get together, that can also be discussed. In my head, there’s flirting from the onset, but developing beyond that, we can go as fast or as slow burn as the story dictates! I’m not opposed to break ups and make ups. So, as for your character. I feel pretty strongly about wanting my partner to play an established talent. If you wish to double, or have a character prepared that you want to talk about, I’m completely open to talking! As for the women I have in mind for this story, I have a list of some favorites and bolded the names I have high hopes of seeing!
Talent: Gigi Dolin, Bayley, Stevie Turner, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, Cora Jade, Jacy Jayne, Liv Morgan, Lyra Valkyria, Anna Jay, Mariah May, Mercedes Mone, Saraya, Skye Blue, Toni Storm, Killer Kelly
One way I see this beginning is the story starting in WWE’s developmental brand, NXT. There, NXT Superstars go to the WWE Performance Center, and that would work as a great hub to play around with characters, including introducing ours and starting an initial meeting.
I'm around a lot and looking for partners who want to write a lot. Please don't message me if you're just going to reply with "I'm up for anything" or something like that, I want to play with people who are into it! But as long as you're interested in writing and being creative, I want to plot and set something up!
If you're looking for something with shorter replies and or longer waits between them, still feel free to reach out too! Reach out, because I'm looking to write! You can send me a DM or whatever is most convenient for you. Please let me know if you write in third or first person, while I prefer third, I can do either!

2024.06.09 05:10 Creative-Reserve998 Should I go back to my ex or let my best friend set me up with one of her friends

Hi. So I need some advice that isn’t bias. So I got out of a relationship with my ex boyfriend he was really sweet and treated me with respect and kindness. He moved to Boston a year ago and he stopped talking to me after being long distance for two months. I tried talking to him and he just said I don’t have feelings for you anymore. I wanna break up. It felt like a stab to the gut. The man I had hopes of marrying left me over message not a call but message. I cried for hours and started to listen to music to get my mind off things it has been two months since we broke up and I still love him. My best friend who was there the day we started dating to breakup asked me to get with one of her friends and I knew him well since he was one of our friends. I knew he liked me since he had mentioned it before and we started talking and I just didn’t work the first time but I was two days out of a break up so I knew it was my fault because I was not really trying.
Now he asked me out again and I said sure. We have been together for 1 week and I don’t think I have feelings for him. I told my best friend and she replied don’t dump him cause it affects me and I got up and walked out. Not bc I was mad but bc I needed help and she chose him. Not only that but I took some breaths and asked her if she was on his side she replied tbh yea he is my friend and I said and what am I I have been there for u so many times given u advice while to talk to him one or twice a week sometimes month and I see u everyday. She said that it was my decision and what I chose could affect our friendship.
Now the guy let’s call him E is also really nice and sweet and always stands up for me but he just doesn’t light something when I hear his name or voice. I know I don’t like him but at this point I’m doing it so that my friend won’t have to deal with him dropping her for me and his break up. My best friend has always been there for me so I want her to be happy with my choice but she currently hates my ex for dumping me bc I was mad he didn’t reply to my messages for almost two months straight but I still love him. What should I do?

2024.06.09 05:08 test1234bu I live on a horrible road, what should I get?

Hi All!
Moved to a new house and this is what the road is like every spring and fall. Northern Ontario, Canada.
Photo is just a sample of the ruts from last year, there are also massive potholes spanning the entire road with no way of avoiding, and washboarding once the grader eventually goes by once every few weeks.
Had to scrap my '08 kia rio, about to have to scrap our '09 Dodge caliber. Have up to $8k CAD to buy something used with, more if the Caliber can last a few more months but house repairs have drained my savings.
Work is about 30kms away, we travel about 150kms a weekend for family visits & groceries. So, economical on gas is another priority and backseat room as we've got a large dog and lots of kids in the family we end up moving around.
There's only one road in, so what car can handle this with the least amount of constant repairs?
Been looking at Subaru Outbacks but am I paying for a brand name for no reason? Do I get a different car but off road tires or something? Upgrade suspension?
Guidance appreciated :)

Using the JUNDUN Accordion File Organizer for a couple of weeks, I was impressed with the fire and water resistance of the product. The file organizer has 13 pockets, suitable for letter and A4 size sheets, and tab positions at the top.
However, the zippers aren't 100% waterproof, so I had to be cautious with water exposure. Despite this, the file organizer's fireproof performance outshines most competitors, making it a great investment for a fire-safe document storage solution.

The standout features for me were the 26 individual pockets, which provide enough space for filing various items like receipts, bills, invoices, and name cards. The unique A-Z insert label design makes it super easy to customize and locate files as needed.
Another great aspect is the high capacity of the product. It can hold up to 3500 sheets, making it ideal for both A4 and letter size files. Compared to other folders, I found the ABC Life accordion file organizer to be more suitable for letter size files due to its height.
Made of premium environmentally friendly PP material, this file organizer is waterproof and flexible, making it perfect for preserving your documents in good condition. Plus, it adds a touch of artistry to your workstation with its beautiful appearance.
Overall, the multi-functional nature of the ABC Life accordion file organizer has made my work life more organized and convenient. Whether you're using it at home, the office, school, or during travel, it's the perfect addition to keep your documents in order.

The expandable pockets hold up to 300-500 sheets of A4 and letter size paper, which is incredibly convenient for both personal and professional use.

I loved that I could fit A4 size paper and letter size paper in there with ease. The button closure provided added security too, ensuring that my files weren't accidentally falling out of the folder.
Being able to carry around a Skydue file folder without it being too bulky was an added bonus. And it being suitable for different types of use, from school to office to home, only made it all the more appealing. The premium quality synthetic leather and polypropylene (PP) make it look and feel sturdy, while being lightweight and super easy to carry around. The expanding file folder is perfect for keeping all my important papers and documents in order, with six expandable pockets accommodating A4 and letter-size papers.
One feature I particularly love is the spring clip, which securely holds my notepad or papers, ensuring a solid writing surface wherever I go. I can easily access the metal pen holder alongside the spring clip when I need it. The product's dimensions are just right, fitting comfortably in my bag and not taking up too much space.
However, I found one minor drawback: the color of the expanded folder is random. But considering all the great features and the overall user-friendly design, this is a small price to pay for this fantastic organizer. The iCarryAll Notepad Portfolio has become essential for me to stay on top of everything and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to stay organized, whether at home, school, or work.

🔗Elegant Expanding File Folder for Organized Storage

I've been using this expanding file folder for a while now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for keeping my paperwork organized. It's designed to hold standard-sized 8.5" x 11" documents, making it perfect for both home and office use.
One of the standout features is the gold accent hardware, which adds a touch of elegance to any filing setup. The file folder itself is spacious and flexible, allowing me to store plenty of documents without sacrificing style.
However, there are a couple of downsides to this product. Some users have reported issues with the handle breaking after a short period of use. Additionally, while it's great for organizing paperwork, it might not be the best option for labeling the file tabs, as some users found it difficult.
Overall, this expanding file folder from U-Brands is a solid choice for anyone looking to keep their documents tidy and organized. With its stylish gold accents, flexibility, and spacious design, it's a great investment for both home and office use.

🔗Stylish File Folder Organizer with Removable Dividers

https://preview.redd.it/hs8m4kwzpg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba8879e39c817ec78f75fd13abca3fbf944355d0
I recently ordered a Chic File Organizer Tote in blue, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The faux leather finish and bold color make this file organizer not only sturdy but also an attractive addition to my office. The 14"W x 9"D x 10-1/2"H size of the organizer is perfect for holding my files securely.
One of the features I appreciate the most is the removable dividers, which definitely improve organization and efficiency. The interior fit is impressive, and the cutouts keep the dividers in place, allowing me to hang my files easily. I was initially concerned that the organizer might not support the weight, but it has proven me wrong.
However, there are a few minor cons that I noticed. First, the exterior fabric is a bit rough, which might cause some discomfort over time if the organizer is handled frequently. Second, the support system for hanging files could use some improvement, as I have observed some durability issues with metal rods bending over time.
All in all, this Chic File Organizer Tote is a worthy investment for anyone looking for a combination of style, functionality, and organization. With its spacious design and attractive appearance, it stands out among file organizers. Just make sure to handle the exterior fabric with care and consider using a stronger support system for hanging files.

🔗Stylish and Durable 30-Slot Classroom File Organizer

https://preview.redd.it/px62lt10qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27415f0847f480b1a0e726465bbb30873b11cefa
I've been using the AdirOffice 30-Slot Purple Classroom File Literature Organizer for a while now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for keeping my papers and supplies organized. The first thing that caught my eye was how sturdy this organizer is - it definitely doesn't feel like it's made of cardboard. The construction is top-notch, with each slot designed to hold your materials securely without bending or breaking.
What I really love about this organizer is how easy it is to label each slot. The small label tabs are a clever feature that allows you to keep everything organized without any hassle. Plus, the bold purple color not only looks great but also won't fade over time, which is a bonus.
However, there are a couple of downsides to this organizer. The first is that it's quite heavy to lift, especially when you need to move it around. The weight can be a bit of a hassle, but it's a minor drawback compared to the benefits.
Another issue I faced was that the material isn't entirely waterproof. If you spill something on it or it gets wet, it can be a bit of a mess. It's not something that happens often, but it's worth mentioning.
Overall, I'm really happy with the AdirOffice 30-Slot Purple Classroom File Literature Organizer. It's a great addition to any workspace and does a fantastic job of keeping everything neat and tidy. Despite the minor issues, I would definitely recommend this organizer to anyone looking for a sturdy and stylish way to keep their papers and supplies in check.

🔗Stackable Mesh File Organizer with Wheels

https://preview.redd.it/ijenoj11qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4272da62e397a8d3dcf84df8561e8a84ef65deaf
I recently came across the Simplehouseware Stackable Mesh Hanging File Organizer with Wheels in black. As someone who frequently deals with stacks of papers and needs to keep them organized, this product caught my eye.
First and foremost, the sturdy steel mesh construction with a black finish really stood out to me. It exudes a sense of professionalism that I found appealing. The mesh desktop organizer was also designed to hold letter size hanging files with easy carry handles, which proved to be very efficient.
However, I did notice a slight drawback—the rolling dolly, which comes with 4 heavy duty 1-inch casters (2 lockable wheels), seemed to be on the smaller side. While it didn't hinder the overall functionality of the organizer, I would have appreciated a slightly larger size.
Despite the minor inconvenience, the stackable design has been a game-changer for me. By connecting two units vertically, I've managed to create more space while still saving space, which is perfect for my small office.
With its extra large size of 15.3 inches by 12.5 inches by 11.5 inches, the Simplehouseware Stackable Mesh Hanging File Organizer with Wheels has been a valuable addition to my daily life. It's a well-designed product with a few minor shortcomings, but overall, it's a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to better organize their documents and files.

🔗Durable Metal Wall Double File Holder

I recently found myself drowning in paper clutter on my desk, so I decided to give the DesignStyles Black Metal Wall Double File Holder a try. This little gem has been a life-saver, providing a clean and organized space for all my important documents. It's easy to mount on the wall, thanks to the included hardware, which eliminates the need for any drilling. In fact, installation was a breeze and it was up on the wall within a matter of minutes.
One of the first things I noticed about this file holder is its durable metal construction. It's sturdy enough to stand up to the daily wear and tear of handling papers, yet it doesn't feel overly heavy or cumbersome to use. The 2 spacious slots for letters are perfect for organizing bills, statements, and other correspondence, clearing up precious desk space in the process. I love that I can easily see which documents are in which slot, thanks to its clean design.
The DesignStyles Black Metal Wall Double File Holder has proven to be a functional and stylish addition to my workspace. Its modern aesthetic adds a touch of sophistication, while its practical features make it a breeze to use. Despite a few minor issues, such as slightly gapped wires that can allow papers to fall to the side, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It's well worth the investment if you're looking to declutter your desktop and keep your papers easily accessible.

🔗Professional File Folder Organizer with Incline Design

https://preview.redd.it/tgldrwq1qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4545bb35bb55166e8eef5b51ecba0bc57fa5bfc5
The Kantek Incline Sorter has been a game-changer for me in keeping my office organized and clutter-free. With its sleek, open-wire design, it seamlessly fits any decor and is a perfect addition to any workspace.
The incline design allows for easy access to files, regardless of their size, and the sturdy construction ensures that they won't topple over. Although it doesn't have the most modern aesthetic, its timeless design adds a touch of professionalism to my space.
But, the one downside I've experienced is that it requires screwing it to the desk to prevent it from moving accidentally. Overall, the Kantek Incline Sorter is a reliable and efficient way to keep my files in order and save space.

🔗Easy-Install Hanging File Folder Holder for Streamlined Organizing

https://preview.redd.it/dda9oq62qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43a6d5c1e8b763b571dfae95e4a1bf2944665d12
I recently started using the Stealtho Desk or Wall Files Organizer in my office and it's become an essential part of my daily routine. The organizer's unique construction really stood out to me - it's sturdy, but I was amazed that I could assemble it without any tools or screws!
One thing that has made a huge difference in my life is the versatility of this organizer. I can install it in three different positions - table, wall, or partition, and it perfectly fits into any environment. The wall mounting option is a great feature as it helps me utilize my vertical space effectively.
Another positive aspect is the ease of installation. The instructions are simple and straightforward, and I managed to set it up in no time. The organizer also comes with two mounting screws and anchors if you prefer to hang it on the wall.
However, I did realize that the organizer may not be ideal for all spaces. If your workspace doesn't have much vertical space or you prefer a smaller organizer, this might not be suitable for you.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the Stealtho Files Organizer. It's sturdy, looks good, and offers a practical solution to keep my desk clutter-free.

🔗Efficient Classroom or Office File Organizer

https://preview.redd.it/w5zb81l2qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdec96e9d34553f2f847d89520a2b79e636e98af
Keeping my classroom and office tidy has never been easier with the AdirOffice Cardboard Literature File Organizer. The organizer, featuring 15 compartments, comes in a compact size while still accommodating plenty of files and paperwork. I love how the sturdy construction allows me to slide files, notebooks and more easily into each slot, making my workspace much more organized.
The recycled corrugated cardboard material not only looks visually appealing but also adds a touch of eco-friendliness to my office. The slot tabs make it easy to identify the contents of each compartment. Overall, this organization hero is a fantastic addition to any space in need of a little decluttering.

🔗Elegant 30-Pocket Hanging File Organizer for Office and Classroom

https://preview.redd.it/qh14rd63qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8499e534b7d4b0ddd765478e63d3169d928b32c
As a busy professional, I had been searching for a stylish yet functional hanging file organizer to keep my important documents neatly organized. After trying the Essex Wares 30 Pocket Chart File Folder Organizer, I realized that my search had finally come to an end.
What stood out to me from the very beginning was the sleek black fabric, which I found to be both modern and versatile, suitably enhancing the aesthetic appeal of any room. The construction of the organizer was incredibly user-friendly, with 30 individual pockets that easily accommodated letter-sized file folders, making organization a breeze.
One of the key highlights that appealed to me was the inclusion of five hanging hooks, offering practical solutions for easy mounting on a door or blackboard. This was especially beneficial for someone like me who often finds herself on the go, needing quick access to important documents.
However, the main drawback I experienced was the size of the pockets. Although they seemed spacious enough, I found that the depth of the pockets was not sufficient, causing me to struggle slightly when trying to find certain files.
Despite this minor flaw, my overall experience with the Essex Wares 30 Pocket Chart File Folder Organizer has been extremely positive. Not only does it help keep my office or classroom neat and organized, but it also adds a touch of modernity to the room. I wholeheartedly recommend this hanging file organizer for anyone looking to efficiently manage their files and enhance their workspace's appearance.

2024.06.09 05:02 SoccerGamerGuy7 Drunk Neighbor (Continued)

I posted about a month ago about an incident with a neighbor who swore and cursed up a storm over not folding a cardboard box. Managed to de-escalate him and avoided him.
Note i live in condos, so theres shared road and space.
Today he was drunk from noon til night. I witnessed him botheyell at 3 people and made me uncomfortable too.
The first is a woman he is "frenemies" with. They both are a bit unstable but the woman is an occasional nuisance where this guy is outright threatening.
But they swear and laugh at eachother alot. But she wasnt laughing today. She went inside and yelled at him to go home.
He started bothering me, sitting on my porch having lunch. Hes washing his car and tries to small talk. I was polite but after the last incident i want nothing to do with the guy.
He got distracted from trying to talk with me when a young woman was walking her dog. He starts small talk with her. At first it seemed normal then he started making her uncomfortable with flirts and said hes a violent person. She politely also was just trying to get out. She had a good handle and i didnt want to piss the guy off either. But kept a sharp ear out if it escalated. She managed to leave as he called her name repeatedly to come back and talk. I went inside.
Later in the evening i went out and when i got back he was outside still! Yelling now at a man. Something about parking. The man blew him off as the drunk guy yelled.
He sees me and approaches me as i was at the mailbox. Yelling "be a man! be a man! talk with me!"
I politely say im winding down for the night and hes trying to chit chat. I notice he is visibly wobbling and clearly intoxicated as he appeared to have been drinking all day.
In one day he bothered multiple people. Yelling, profanity, and trying to "talk" (which part of me feels a little sorry for him, hes a lonely old drunk. But this is not the way to get your social interaction in life.) hes becoming a menace. Drunkenly walking in the street. Yelling at passerbys on the road or for "violations" such as me not breaking down the box, one guy "was driving too fast" and today the guy who "didnt park in the right spot" And also for harassing that woman today too.
HOA can write him a letter with complaints from neighbors but that does nothing but document the issue. I have concerns it's escalating.
Hes still outside with a flashlight at 10:30-11:00 at night just in the street, tinkering with his car and approaching any passersby. And thats what he does when hes drunk. For hours just in the street yelling at any passers by or trying to start conversations if there is no "violation" he feels needs to be yelling about

2024.06.09 05:01 notRANT What is this weird obsession of guys to keep joking about an ex?

Question to men, from a man.
I've tried to confide in multiple friends about multiple exes. I tell them about incidents and conversations we had, but never really express any desire to get back or that I miss them, because more often than not, that's how I truly feel.
Every single time I've told my friends about an ex, sooner or later they'll joke about it and make comments like "thinking about your ex?" when I'm just sitting quietly, or "he's just sad because she left him" or mention their name randomly, fully expecting a reaction out of me.
Is that it? Do they want to see my reaction to this? Like maybe I act cool so they want to see me uncomfortable? It always feels like someone would crack a joke like this and then I'd have all eyes on me, waiting to see how I react.
Could the reason be because I don't tell them the whole story? Because I don't break down and sob in front of them? I only tell them parts because honestly I don't like talking about it.
Has anyone else faced this?

‘WE CANNOT SIMPLY GO, GO, GO.’ WHAT IS ‘GIRL MOSSING,’ THE WELLNESS TREND THAT REJECTS HUSTLE CULTURE?

On TikTok and Instagram, people are “girl mossing”: lying on a forest floor, staring up at a leafy canopy or caressing moss. The United States National Forest Foundation even borrowed the term to kick off its 2024 Instagram account. Girl mossing recognizes a need to step away from the pressures of modern, urban life, promoting spending time in nature as a restorative practice. The fast pace and pressure of neoliberal capitalism take an enormous toll on well-being: not just personal, but social and planetary.

FIVE WAYS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CAN IMPROVE YOUR DATING LIFE

Artificial intelligence is going to transform how we date. The question is: will it be for better or worse? It’s already causing some real problems, especially related to “romance scams” and other fraud. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Used in the right way, AI can actually make dating better. It can help write profiles and find matches, provide dating advice and coaching and, if all else fails, become a date companion. I have spent the last few years studying the impact of technology, and especially AI, on our

“Tell me if you dance and I will tell you who you are!” A study led by researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics (MPIEA) in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, has shown that both amateur and professional dancers are less neurotic than people who do not dance. They are also more agreeable, more open, and more extraverted.

INVESTORS BET BIG ON SUNNY DAYS, STUDY FINDS

It’s often said we can’t control the weather. But what if the weather controls how and when we invest our money? More specifically, what if the skies control how much we’re willing to gamble in the stock market? New research by the University of South Australia has found a connection between pleasant weather conditions and higher investment in lottery-like stocks. Lottery-like stocks are cheap compared to other stocks and, like lottery tickets, they can be seen as an opportunity to make a substantial gain. However, the chance of a higher

Perceived unjust teacher behavior is strongly and positively associated with populist attitudes among children and adolescents. Populist attitudes consist of ideologies including anti-elitism, people-centrism, and a dualistic perception of good versus evil, and where the foundation of political decision-making should be based on the general will of the people. In contrast to the association with teacher behavior, the correlation between young people’s relationships with peers and the development of populist attitudes is less strong, and the correlation between young people’s relationships

MICROINCLUSIONS IMPROVE WOMEN’S WORKPLACE BELONGING AND COMMITMENT

New research shows how “microinclusions”—brief instances of positive treatment, especially from members of the dominant group—help women feel valued at work. Imagine your first day at a new job. You probably feel nervous, wondering how you’ll fit in with the team. It’s natural to worry if your co-workers will be supportive, or if they’ll take your contributions seriously. This experience is amplified for women in technology companies, who often face underrepresentation and

The working world can be a pitiless one, as competition in the marketplace can put significant pressures on employees. Donald Trump has recently doubled down on his derogatory depictions of undocumented migrants in his bid to win the 2024 presidential election. In an interview with Time magazine, published on April 30 2024, Trump referred to migrants as “criminals,” who “come in and they steal our jobs, and steal our wealth, and they steal our country.” Trump was especially disparaging towards migrants from China, who he said are a “major force that’s forming in our country.” In short, according to Trump, undocumented migration is “an invasion of our country.” Trump’s

NEW STUDY SHOWS MARKETING A BRAND’S SIMPLICITY CAN BACKFIRE

Irritability is a common side effect of heat. When companies tout the simplicity of their products, they may unknowingly invite customer dissatisfaction, new University of Oregon research finds. For decades, “simpler is better” has been accepted as a universal truth in marketing. Nick Light, assistant professor of marketing at the UO’ Lundquist College of Business, has tested that assumption. He found that most consumers prefer offerings that appear to be easy to use and understand. However, trumpeting simplicity can have a hidden, costly downside. “When marketing convinces consumers that things

HUMAN CULTURE IS CHANGING TOO FAST FOR EVOLUTION TO CATCH UP—HERE’S HOW IT MAY AFFECT YOU

Research is showing that many of our contemporary problems, such as the rising prevalence of mental health issues, are emerging from rapid technological advancement and modernisation. WHY THE FUTURE OF DEMOCRACY COULD DEPEND ON YOUR GROUP CHATS

I became newly worried about the state of democracy when, a few years ago, my mother was elected president of her neighborhood garden club. Her election wasn’t my worry—far from it. At the time, I was trying to resolve a conflict on a large email group I had created. Someone, inevitably, was being a jerk on the internet. I had the power to remove them, but did I have the right? I realized that the garden club had in its bylaws something I had never seen in nearly all the

NET ZERO IS NOT JUST GOOD SCIENCE—IT’S ALSO A GOOD DEAL FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE

As the UK moves into a general election, a misinformed debate over the country’s climate transition and legally binding net zero targets risks further dividing people. Much of this debate in the UK focuses on the “cost” of net zero. For instance, energy secretary Claire Coutinho recently stated the government did not want a “net zero leviathan” to crush the nation’s “brilliant enterprise economy,” while the Labor Party had to backtrack on its own headline climate investment pledge, citing “affordability” and “fiscal rules.” But the true “cost” is tricky to

THE FASCINATING PSYCHOLOGY BEHIND ‘DINE AND DASH’ AND WHY IT’S ABOUT SO MUCH MORE THAN A FREE MEAL

Sometimes when I read the newspapers, I think that going to a restaurant and leaving without paying has become something of an epidemic. My research into lying has taught me that the psychology behind acts of deception is often deeply complex. Let me start with a confession. I was guilty of dine and dash a very long time ago before it had a catchy name. I was in a group that hung about a chip shop at the turn-of-the-road in north Belfast, a poor and troubled area. TRYING TO SAVE MONEY? RESEARCH SUGGESTS PAYING IN CASH—WHILE YOU STILL CAN

Cash is in crisis. In Australia, it’s now only used for 16% of in-person transactions, down from about 70% in 2007. The situation is so dire that on Monday, independent federal MP Andrew Gee introduced a private member’s bill that would force businesses to accept cash or else face big fines. why we associate risk-taking with males rather than females, from an evolutionary standpoint. Study author Hannah Goodman, from UWA’s School of Human Sciences, said researchers found men engaged in riskier behaviors when crossing a busy traffic intersection, supporting growing evidence that risk-taking is predominantly an androcentric behavior. “Males

2024.06.09 04:58 Huge_Impression188 Reflections on being long-term, no contact with my Father.

I just thought I would share my story because I realize it’s almost been two decades of no contact with my father.
After 18 years, it’s become a lot easier to deal with. Me and my father have virtually been estranged for the majority of this time. I am 37 now. When I was 12, my parents split up, namely, my mother left him due to his abusive behavior and unpredictable rage. my teenage years are nothing more but memories of him acting like a big buffoon and torturing me and my siblings with horrible parental alienation. Getting angry if you had any contact with my mother. Sadly, during those years, I did not have a lot of contact with my mother, namely, because I did not want to trigger his anger and violence against me. He and my mother have a 17 year age difference and he really assumed that he had told control of her when they were married. She is now 59 and he is 77 currently. She left him in 1999.
However, at a certain point when I was 18 I left his house, but we were still living in the same city about a year after I graduated high school. I began to be in touch more and more with my mother at this time and my relationship with my father really started to break down at this time. And he had already pretty much not really been there for me too much for years at this point anyway. He provided the Room and board. Yes I’ll give him that, but by and large, anything that I had after the age of 15 I got on my own by working while I was in school. Didn’t pay for any of my clothing didn’t pay for school fee. Didn’t pay for one textbook. So it’s been distant and cold for a long time even before he began leaving me violent death threat voicemails when he knew that I was gonna go live with my mother and try to start over.
This is a man who I have witnessed pull a machete on my little brother, knock an entire old school TV over on my brother and who has also pointed a gun in my face at the age of 14 in a violent rage, and is most consistently very verbally abusive and quite blatant about all of it. Very antagonistic, very irritating, and someone who almost gets a weird twinkle in his eye when he’s being abusive. Very disturbing to witness.
He murdered our neighbors dog because the dog crapped in our yard. He stalked a woman who lived in our neighborhood because he was suspicious that her dog was going to do the same thing and he was following her to find out where the dog lived because he was going to possibly attempt to kill her dog as well.
He and my brother once got into a violent fight over a pornographic videotape. No one was in the home but us three, but it was one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. The police were called to our home many times during my high school years.
Does not know how to have a relationship that isn’t based on fear, control and abuse. However, because he has a lot of money people kiss his a$$, but I have never been willing to do that for one red cent of his money. That’s just not worth the headache.
His wife (the lady he married after my mother) has in the past had a severe gambling addiction. But she worked so much and stayed at the casino. She really wasn’t there for a lot of this rage so I tend to think that she doesn’t believe me anyway and I don’t think her family ever really liked me to be honest. a lot of these incidents used to happen when we three children were at home with him only. When my mother was there with us when they were still married, though he was very violent with her. Also, very violent and cruel with animals. A very sick man. A Vietnam veteran who refuses to believe that he needed to go seek professional help upon his return.
There was a lot of racial shame too. My father is black and my mother is white. Apparently, he deeply hates white people, but nobody realized how bad it was till after my mother left him. He would tell us kids how embarrassing we were because we were half-white and that something was wrong with us because of that.
I have watched him be there way more for his wife’s daughter who’s not even his biological child above me and my brother especially. I have a biological sister who has been abusive with but in a different way, because she was the golden child. But he’s enabled her so much in her life she basically can’t function and is more or less a collapsed narcissist in my book. But that’s a tale for another time about her. The girls were definitely always favored over us boys and it remains that way today anyway.
Once I moved away, and I was far out of that chaotic environment, what I had actually been through for all of those years really started to hit me about six months in and I had a really tough time with it. But in the end, I just decided that I wasn’t going to continue this toxic devastating relationship. It took a lot of years and there were even periods of attempts at reconciling. But in the end, it really boils down to the fact He’s never been someone I can depend on. He’s never been someone I can call in a time of need. I’ve heard some children who are estranged from their parents talk of the financial hardship they have incurred as a result of that but for me there never was any financial support so there was nothing to lose there. Everything and anything that I’ve gotten I’ve had to work for with no help from him. Period.
Not somebody who takes responsibility, not really somebody who can look in the mirror and see the mistakes that he’s made. He just likes to try and sweep all of it under the rug and pretend like nothing ever happened. But it’s really hard for me to do that and as hard as it is to be estranged, sometimes I think it would be harder to sit there and be expected to continue to play these fake games as so that we can put on a show.
I think that’s really what’s always rubbed me wrong about him. His desire to place appearances above all other things. I remember when I was 14 and I didn’t feel like going to some picnic because I think he was on my nerves then. Remember him saying to me oh well if you don’t think there’s something wrong with you but what I couldn’t say at the time was that it was really not something I was terribly concerned about. He’s always been the one worried about putting on a fake show. But when you look behind the scenes, everything is a total disaster and in chaos.
And after my mother got cancer years later, and I ended up taking care of her pretty much on my own with no help from my siblings, I would say virtually more or less I’m estranged from most of my immediate family other than my mother. My mother is also estranged from my brother and sister who are twins. Me and my sister had different falling out about 11 years ago and we have not really been on speaking terms since. I used to believe that we had a close relationship, but I’ve come to learn that it was all a lie. My brother and I talk occasionally but I’m careful about what I talk about because he’s basically the one who is in touch with everyone. It’s definitely a fine line relationship with him. And he doesn’t really understand where I’m met with my relationship with our father and thinks I should get over it, but they have a weird trauma bonded relationship and in spite of the things that my father has done to him, he can’t let go. And I respect that, but that’s not gonna work for me personally. I find my father to be a highly toxic person.
It’s hard, but I think what makes it hard is just the smear campaigns that I know are happening about me. But I think for me that’s the worst part and the good news is I don’t have to hear it. I don’t miss the drama. I don’t miss the lies. I don’t miss the violent threats and the yelling. I don’t miss the betrayals. I don’t miss the favoritism. I don’t miss being treated like someone’s property. I don’t miss the vile words that come out of his mouth. I don’t miss any of that.
So when you add it all up, just remember it takes strength, and it takes courage. it takes a lot of courage to stand up and hold the boundary to someone that you feel has been violently abusive and really scares the sh*t out of you. And don’t get me wrong, like, it’s sad. I do think it’s really sad but at the end of the day these are the cards I’ve been dealt and it was a tough choice, but in a lot of ways, it was the only choice for me in order to survive.
More and more these days I’m just working on trying to not ruminate on it anymore and trying to not let the memories pour over into the present. But I have so much to be grateful for and I’m really happy with the place that I am in my life and I really don’t regret it at all. But I know that my circumstances are somewhat extreme just due to the insane violence and the insane behavior that went on.
And a lot of ways it’s been easy because of his age and the fact that he’s not on social media. he also expects me to do all of the contacting and reaching out. It’s always on me. So he’s not gonna pick up the phone if I don’t pick up the phone. Which once again makes it somewhat easier to deal with. I typically don’t expect any phone calls or text messages from him and I don’t receive them.
For some people, it’s a really tough choice, but in my book if the person makes you feel terrible about yourself constantly, basically craps on your confidence at every turn, belittles and ridicules you regularly And basically makes you feel just nothing but tension, anxiety, and negative feelings about the relationship then what is the point of staying? Everybody has their breaking point and can only tolerate so much before something has to give. 17 years later, I don’t really feel bad about it and in the end I feel like it really has been the best choice. To be able to function in society I had to cut out this kind of severe abuse from my life. And I don’t regret it because it’s made me who I am and it’s made me a stronger person.
And truly at the end of the day, I actually wish them well. I don’t wish them or anything like that but I just know that we cannot have any kind of relationship until people decide that they need to make changes too. I just cannot go back again for any more of that. I’ve always been an observer and a listener, and I don’t think that’s what my father gets his I spent my years just observing and listening to him because I was pretty much forced into silence. Based on my observations, I know that I’ve made the right choice because you can’t reason with somebody who is that crazy. The funny thing is this guy thinks that he is the portrait of sanity.
That’s quite enough of that now, but I wanted to share and I hope that it helps somebody who may have something similar going on or having conflicting feelings about it.

2024.06.09 04:52 undercoverthrowaway0 Was Invited to My Sister’s Wedding Out of Spite

Or so I have been told. Here’s some simple, short, albeit INSANE backstory first.
I (33f) was adopted at birth. My parents told me at the age of 4. Never had any issues with it. At 17 I got pregnant with my son, searched for bio family for medical reasons and due to pregnancy complications, never found anyone. At 19 I literally stumble upon my bio mom. Literally. I was working at a grocery store, customer thinks I look like his wife’s childhood friend, they tell the friend and friend mentions baby she gave up 19 years earlier that no one knew about. Fast forward a bit, it’s confirmed she’s my bio mom and I meet her, we try a relationship, she’s manipulative right from the beginning. I meet my sister and realize the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Distanced, but didn’t completely cut, myself from them. Would still see them on random occasions but I would talk to my sister more frequently via phone.
Sister gets married in like 2015. I’m invited to the wedding. I hesitate to go but sister wants me there very badly. It’s a backyard wedding at bio mom’s house but it’s beautiful nonetheless. Wasn’t too awkward since I met a lot of these people before throughout the years. I had my two kids in tow and had a good time.
Cut all ties within the next few years with bio mom as she crossed a major boundary of mine when she showed up at my parent’s house looking for me. I knew she did that on purpose, and I was already done with her bullshit. Didn’t see her again after that day. She would, however, randomly reach out via Facebook and such. I would not respond.
I cut ties officially with everyone when bio mom tried to have something to say about my new relationship after my divorce.
It’s been over 5 years since this happened. I have never even ran into them let alone heard their names. I’m casually shopping the other day and a woman approaches me and tells me I look just like her cousin “bio mom.” After my confirmation, she tells me she has met me before at my sisters wedding. She starts talking all about how bio mom has done horrible things to her in the past 9 years and I simply shared that I no longer associated with anyone. She then tells me that I was actually invited to my sisters wedding out of spite. I don’t care, but I was a bit confused so I entertained it. Apparently, bio sister invited me and it was supposed to be a slap in the face to me. She invited me as a way to brag that her mother kept her and not me. I laughed, loudly, because that is NOT the brag that she thinks it is. My parents were absolutely amazing. The best, to say the least, while my sister jumped between relatives for many different reasons. On one occasion when my sister met my parents, she cried to my mom that she wished they’d have been able to adopt her too. I’m not surprised. My older self is jealous of my younger self because of the life I lived lol. I wish I could do it again and again.
None of that actually bothers me. But the part that DOES is that apparently unbeknownst to me, while at the wedding, bio mom at one point asked this particular cousin of hers “how she did.” Cousin thought she was talking about the wedding, and told her it was beautiful. Bio mom then pointed to me and said “no, I mean with OP? She’s lovely isn’t she?” Cousin said she couldn’t believe it and actually replied “you had nothing to do with her and who she is and I think the way you’re parading her around here tonight is uncomfortable for many.” Bio mom then says something to the extent of, “well bio sister wanted her here because she wanted to show off our family and what she could have been a part of.”
Seriously? Maybe I’m just more sensitive to all of this because I just lost my beautiful, intelligent, loving, and kind mother in 2021, but how dare bio mom try to take any type of credit for who I became, or my bio sister think that I’d be comparing anything. I’m a grown adult, a professional, I don’t like pettiness and confrontation, AND maybe this cousin was just trying to tell a story for some reason, but part of me wants to unblock everyone and finally say everything I’ve wanted to for so long. I’m so mad that this has gotten so deep into my head.
Just needed to vent.

2024.06.09 04:52 rural220558 Interpreting Tilt (the song)

I’d like to start some discussions about ‘Tilt’, a song Scott had described as his attempt at a ‘black country record’. I have a specific question towards the end which I’d like some opinions on, but I’d love to hear general thoughts too
This song is one of my favourite off the album: it really sounds like a diseased country ballad that has started to necrotize. I recall a producer in the ‘30 Century Man’ documentary saying that the hypnotic guitar strumming in this song is neither in major key or minor key: instead it’s a jarring, dissonant clash of both.
You can hear this technique across a lot of the last 3 albums: there was an interview with Jarvis Cocker where he recalled finding Scott at the studio trying to conjure strange tones out of two dissonant piano keys, over and over. It seems he was trying to find new sound terrain in discordant spaces, and one of my favourite things about him and Peter Walsh’s production is the zooming-in on microscopic disharmonies, spotlighting them in the pitch black. As an aside, I think this song has a lot in common with Swans’ ‘The Seer’, the same sour notes and hypnotic strumming appears in songs like ‘Mother of the World’.
I see Tilt as a sister song to Bolivia ‘95, exploring similar threads: faceless pilgrims journeying through the nameless landscape, hunger and discomfort.
Tilt appears to me like a coming-of-age and Western Frontier tale wrapped up in one. I am reminded of the anonymous protagonist ‘The Kid’ from Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian, a vulnerable young boy who is swept up in violence and drudged along by a band of marauders, ‘breaking the mold’ of America and losing his soul through the process:
He was so strong, he was so bold / When they made him, they broke the mold / If he heads this way, when the moon is slow
In the 1800s, wild buffalos were heavily relied upon by Native American societies for food, clothing, and shelter. During the Western expansion, settler forces deliberately killed off tens of millions of bison animals in an effort to decimate Indian tribes:
Come over and pray / they'll turn the buffalo / They'll turn the buffalo
‘Turning’ the buffalo also evokes the ‘turning’ of the century.
The second verse evokes a typical ‘back at home during the war’ snapshot, apple pie on the window sill:
The mother waits as still as the moonlight / Standing in long grass with her cold cold nose / What she feels so deep she will never show
Now I’d like to turn to the most mysterious part of the song: the chorus - if you can call it that.
Our town, our town, do love a stampede / Stampede by my old jacket in the park / Someday I'll pick it up, look for the label and whisper: Tilt! ain't got none no no / Tilt, got none at all / Tilt, ain't got none no no / None at all /
The lyric seems to be straightforward imagery until this part. I find it difficult to understand what the whispering to the jacket’s label would mean, and most importantly: what ‘Tilt, got none at all’ is saying.
This is something I haven’t seen discussed anywhere. Unlike The Drift and Bish Bosch, which seem to be titular representations of all those records’ songs, it seems Tilt (the album) was named after this song - or possibly, this song encapsulates the verve of the whole album.
Why would this be? What does Tilt show or mean?
I can see ‘tilting’ being another instance of the ‘turning’ of the buffalo, the ‘turning’ of the century. More vaguely, it is an accurate way to describe a lot of the sounds: off-kilter, songs tilting in their own direction, straying off path. But I seem to think there’s more to it than that.
One interesting interpretation I saw from a previous commenter was about the album artwork appearing like a pinball machine - the cockerel’s eye appearing like the pinball - that you would ‘tilt’ in order to get out.
What do you think?

2024.06.09 04:49 Illustrious_Log3986 Was it my fault

The reason my ex said for breaking up with me was that he couldn’t see a future with me because the bad times make him question the good times. “It’s 90% good and 10% bad but the 10% is so intense it makes me question the 90%”
He hates when we argue but I feel like he was setting an impossible standard for how arguments were supposed to go. And while we were doing that more, sometimes things would just get heated because it was a stressful situation.

2024.06.09 04:48 Historical_Bass5067 Beware of minnesota raves🤢😱

The minnesota rave scene Is full of hateful biggets. I'm gonna start with one incidinternet. That was this kid and I can't say his name but everybody in the rave scene Turned against him. And made up some false allegation on him Because he is a african american guy. They said he threatened people on facebook And none of it Was true. Because I knew he was all about the p.l.u.r. He will wear phat pants all the time. And he was super nice to me. He let me stay his apartment. And we listened to hard trance records on his turntables. And mainly people from the techno scene and minnesota Started spreading About him because of the color of his skin this is sick. And another guy that was really cool His name was Patrick He was a house dj. And they treated him really bad.It seems like people who are minorities get treated really bad in the minnesota rave scene. They treat a African American bad because they are African American and treat a native America bad because they are Native American This is sick. This is not plur This is hate bigotry. Nobody treated me bad in Minneapolis Because i'm white this is sad.😔 The techno community there Have this saintitanic scene going on. And there was a girl that got pushed down the stairs at one of their parties. Even the candy ravers are corrupted. DJ Squiggles is a freaking proud boy. He's like one of the meanest guys i've ever met But he's plays Happy hardcore. The rave scene is backwards in minnesota. If you bring l d l's or glow sticks to a rave in minnesota you will get beat up.😔 Skinheads and proud boy dj in the Rave scene in minneapolis I can't speak for any Other city. But minneapolis I can speak for I've seen the hatred racist slurs throng at People at parties. Especially asian people. in 2000 There was a lot of asians that went to raves. And they started saying racial slurs to them And saying it the asian invasion sick.🤢 And then they chase them all out of the scene As a white person I seen all this go down. So if you go too a Minneapolis rave be extremely careful Especially if you are a person of color. I never had no problems because my skin is white I'm white But I have to spread awareness to my People of color. And because I didn't go along with this stuff they Send Message on facebook They call me the n word lover If you know what I mean. These people are Polluted by corruption george floyd Corrupt cops racism bad politicians just corrupt there. I moved away from that horrible city. the east coast is a lot better Good vibes people just haven't fun at parties Nowhere is perfect. but this was my experience in The Minneapolis rave scene. If you go to minneapolis for a rave just have a bunch of people with you please. I seen candy ravers get beat up for having glow sticks just be careful. it's super racist super hateful. And I don't care about the comments. I'm gonna get on this because it's the truth. P.l.u.r. Peace and love everyone and treat your fellow man like a human.💛💛💚💚💙💙🩵💜🤎❤️

2024.06.09 04:46 tess_philly Why all the defensiveness?

I do not mean for this post to cause controversy. I merely want to see if others have an answer, or agree/disagree with me. I had lived in Chicago, as an outsider, for over 12 years, and found it to be a great city, but I couldn't stand the weather anymore, and felt it was more insular. More and more friends moved to the burbs. So I left.
One observation I had of the lovely people there is how defensive they are of the city, and even outright denying any points brought up, which are backed by studies, and clearly don't exist to the extent that they do in Chicago. Segregation, namely. You can see it here. Also, I felt people in Chicago are actively competing against other cities. You can also see that here. If one brings up these issues, it's shut right down. You don't see this from New York, London, and other cultures.
I feel this is a huge blocker in actually achieving great things, such as breaking down segregation barriers.
