Why does Ampharos lie so much?

2024.05.15 21:23 Unacceptable_Goose Why does Ampharos lie so much?

I never really noticed until replaying Super how much of a consistent and downright Machiavellian liar Ampharos is throughout the entire story.
He:
It isn't even just Ampharos who does this, though he is the biggest offender. Some other examples of people lying to you for basically no reason:
Has anyone else noticed how comically often this type of thing happens in SMD? Characters constantly lie to or mislead you, often putting you and your partner in extreme emotional stress and/or serious danger, then later reveal the truth and expect you to just be totally okay with it.

2024.05.15 19:29 girlwhohatesherself im so tired.

16 F here. Hello I’m just very tired of everything and frustrated with myself. School is the most of my problems. I used to be really smart and high achieving and now I can’t even make good grades to save my life. Im a junior in high school and I’ve just taken the SAT and I’m waiting for my scores to get back. My dream school isn’t fancy but it’s competitive. No school is going to accept me because of my shitty grades. I also must say that I’m in a dual credit program which is common now, but when I graduate high school I will also get my associates. I didn’t make the grade needed for this college class and I’m afraid I might be executed from the program. All my other grades are somewhat good and I meet the requirements. My gpa is so low. This is also important because if colleges see this I might just have a chance in life.
My dad died a couple of years ago so that sucks. I’ve been depressed since the fall of 2021 before my dads death. I’m just not happy and I miss my dad dearly. My mom doesn’t understand.
Ik that my grades are my fault but I’ve truly never done anything right in my whole life. I’ve mastered nothing, im not good at sports. My rooms a mess and I just rot in bed all the time. I’ve lost the motivation of doing sports . My mom asks me if I’m depressed and I tell her no. Culturally she would not be accepting. But ik she knows. I got cheated on for a whole entire year, I’ve lost friends, I constantly worry about my moms health hoping that she won’t leave me next. My minds never been at ease.
I feel so hopeless and I don’t want to be here anymore. My suicidal ideations are no help. I feel as if im dramatic if I actually do kms. When I think I feel happier I just get right back depressed. It’s no help that my mom barely lets me go out. I think I’m a pretty ok kid . I hate the way I look and my hair won’t grow. All I do is cry. Last night I couldn’t even wash my hair and shower without bawling my eyes out. I couldn’t do my hair once I got out either. My mom gets mad at me all the time. She doesn’t believe that I can do great things. I look at my class and wonder why I can’t just get good grades. It’s frustrating because no matter how much I try it never works out. My life would be better if I still had my dad around.m
Im just tired and hate myself and everything

2024.05.15 18:22 OverallFeature7847 Mean Girls Sequel Ideas

Just coming across with my imaginative idea about the musical sequel ever since the Two Mean Girls movies are now my favorite.
Let's say this;
The aftermath takes place during the new school year, and the girls split up. This story starts when Regina George is playing the lacrosse game, while Karen Smith is doing the news forecast and Gretchen is sitting next to the Italian cliques.
On the other hand; Caddy is back with Janis and Damien, sitting next to the George family members; Mr George (Hayden Christensen), Mrs George (Busy Philips), and Auntie George (Rachel McAdams) are watching the game seeing the girl to win.
During the game, they saw the three new girls known as the “Junior Plastics”. Things might not be as good after the game ended. Principal Duvall saw the three girls doing the trends on TikTok; repeating history as of last school year, and he is not having it. He decided the have the group of high school students cady, janis, Damian, Regina, Karen and Gretchen to have the meeting In the George’s Mansion.
Together they do the meeting on the ideas of sabotaging the group to end the madness.
The new queen bee is the daughter of Auntie George who not needs to be stopped but needs to be back on the good side.
Will this idea become reality? What are some recommendations.

2024.05.15 17:02 kydabrat found out years later that I scored a 910

I am currently in my mid 20's and attend my top pick university.
I took the SAT and ACT my junior year of high school as many students do. Back then,I didn't really care for school and the school I attended really didn't teach us much, it was just about the image with that school -- come to school in full uniform and be on time, that's all that mattered.
We were SO behind academically... a huge learning gap between us and public schools. This didn't become evident until years later. A student who was the top of our graduating class did her field placement at my current place of employment and my colleagues recently told me that they kind of looked at my classmate (who was a student teacher at my place of employment maybe 2 years ago) and wondered how they had mad it this far not just academically but in life in general. And it made me kind of sad because it really made me realize that the learning gap was SOOOOO big! Huge. No exaggeration.
Anyways, where I work now we talk to kids about SAT's and ACT's as well as college. I got curious and was like "I wonder what my SAT scores were 8-ish years ago". Called ColleBoard, found out how to get access to my scores, no problem. I scrolled down and saw that out of a possible 1600.... I scored a 910. OUT OF A POSSIBLE SIXTEEN HUNDRED.... I SCORED... A NINE HUNDRED AND TEN. Never looked at my scores after I took the SAT and never retook them. When I applied to schools, I got the scores sent straight from CollegeBoard to the schools I applied to.
Full circle moment, though... I am currently at my top pick school (got accepted junior year of hs with my 910 score but we couldn't afford it at the time) with a 3.85 pga going into my senior year in a dual BSW/MSW program. WOW.

2024.05.15 15:15 nobodysgeese A Bond Decision

Originally for SEUS: Mad Libs XIII
Argent Silvertoe cycled through the monitors, making sure that the cameras had a view of every inch on his volcanic lair. It wouldn't do to miss the big moment, whichever trap it was that finally got her.
Behind him, his butler said, "Sir, I really must protest this plan. I could fetch your rifle from the safe and you could shoot her the moment she disembarked onto the island. It would be effective, and swift enough that you would be done in time for dinner, to enjoy your victorious whiskey in peace."
"I could, Aiden," Silvertoe agreed, turning in his chair to face him. "But what good would that do?"
"Sir?"
"Do you remember the plane?"
The butler leveled a glare at Silvertoe, which he ignored. "Yes, I do. I clearly remember Miss Tie defenestrating you mid-flight."
"Exactly!" Silvertoe exclaimed. "And of course there was that time in Berlin. Bad enough to drop a building on someone, but did she have to use my own building to add insult to injury?"
Aiden sighed. "Sir, I still fail to see why any of this means you can't simply shoot her. Indeed, it seems killing her quickly, and more importantly at range, ought to be the goal."
"It's the disrespect!" Silvertoe gestured vaguely. "I can shoot anyone. But when someone has burned down your arsonist robots, or axed your deforestation operation, their death requires a more... personal touch. One with as much irony as Agent Tie has inflicted on me."
A look of defeated enlightenment crossed Aiden's face, as if he'd figured out some mystery and been deeply disappointed by what he found. "Ah. That is why so many of these... contraptions have ropes."
"Yes! I'm going to-"
"Tie up Miss Tie. Yes sir, I understood."
"It's brilliant! It's ironic! It's a worthy end to my most persistent foe. And the pit of serpents is close enough to ropes to count! The piranhas aren't thematically appropriate, I'll admit, but they were on discount."
The butler cleared his throat. "Alternatively, you could tie her up after you shoot her."
"Aiden, where's your sense of artistry?"
"Sir, your connivances never succeed. I know this is your preferred pastime, but I fear that you indulge in sweet temptation for a cost."
Silvertoe spun back to his monitors. "Never mind, she's here!"
A figure came into view of the entrance's camera, and Silvertoe leaned forward. His voice boomed from the speakers scattered throughout the volcanic tunnels. "Tie. Bo Tie." The figure leapt and looked around, and Silvertoe cackled. "I congratulate you on finding my lair, but I won't be so easy to capture. I'm hidden deep inside, and you'll never get past my traps!"
His butler was polite enough to wait for him to turn off the sound before speaking. "Sir, please, at least let me bring your guns here, so you can shoot her when- if she gets past the traps."
"My traps never fail!"
Aiden lifted an incredulous eyebrow, and Silvertoe suddenly found the monitors fascinating again. "Now, let's see which trap she's heading toward first. She's nearing the crossroads, and she's going to pick the- What?"
Silvertoe almost climbed out of his chair to peer more closely at the screen. "Is that... cake?"
"Yes sir, with a selection of hors d'ourves."
Slowly, Silvertoe nodded. "Respectable. I'm glad to see you taking an interest in the villainous side of things. I wouldn't have personally picked poison, but-."
"No sir, they are not poisoned." For the first time in the twenty years Silvertoe had known Aiden, he dropped his formal mask to massage his temples. "I just felt a certain comradeship with Miss Tie. Dealing with the traps from the other side, as it were."
Silvertoe paused. "...Fair, I suppose. I guess this has been more stressful for you than I thought. Tell you what, after I've done away with Bo Tie, I promise I'll shoot the next victim."
"Thank you, sir. Much appreciated."
Silvertoe raised a finger to silence him and turned up the volume. Agent Tie was still looking at the table of assorted snacks, and the microphone could just barely pick up her whisper. "Why am I afraid to eat this slice of cake? Better safe than sorry."
She tipped the table over. The cake splattered. The deviled eggs rolled away. The bruschetta bites wobbled to a stop like coins carelessly cast to the floor. Agent Tie's boot heel ground the cake further to mush as she moved into the lair, and Silvertoe winced, chancing a glance to see how his butler would take this culinary heresy.
Aiden stood straight and blank-faced as his work was defiled, but his eye was twitching. After a long pause, he said, "Please do shoot the next foe, sir. But drop this one into the volcano."

2024.05.15 06:09 Glowstickk_Juice AITAH for yelling at me ex?

For context, I (16F) struggle with PTSD, and Anxiety (Therapist thinks I might have ADHD as well but I don't think so) My ex (17M) struggles with a bad at home life, and major insecurities, and I've always tried to comfort him, and tell him any advice or help I could offer, granted, I don't act fantastic under pressure or anything but I try helping people to the best of my ability, anyways. 5-14 years of age, I experienced some of the most traumatic events of my life, and i had opened up to him about this from the beginning of the relationship, just so that he would know why I might act scared or freeze up in certain situations. He told me he had understood, and he would help me through it. More than a year later, he tried convincing me that my trauma was fake, and it's some "sick coping mechanism" I've come up with with a crime my father never did, completely disregarding my panic attack, crying so hard i could hardly speak more than a whisper. After my birthday (roughly 2 days later) he went with his best friend (16F) and her sister (I don't know her age), to the beach, and i was fine with it. Come to find out, he cheats on me with his now Ex-Bestfriends sister, but he at first lied to me about it, just saying it was a kiss. Then after he finds out I went to my best friend (15M), and that I had cried to him he admits to getting touchy with her. AFTER, he told me he wants to keep being friends with his (ex-bestfriend) and tries to make a plan with me to date his best friends sister, and me at the same time, then pretty much destroy her mentally, then break up with her, and stay with me. I kept telling me I wasn't on board with the screwed up plan, and that morally, it's wrong, and if he got caught the Hellfire after would be WORSE than how they initially started. He gets mad and stop responding to me. Not even a week into my junior year, my home situation gets so overwhelming for me, so I started living with someone else. After we broke up he demanded I apologize to him for being an AH and it was my fault he cheated on me because I was a horrible girlfriend. I cried and apologized to him for almost a month, but then he wouldn't stop telling me how much he missed me, cheating on someone by doing so, and i wasn't even on board with it. He kept telling me how much he loves me, and he loves me, then switching up the next day and telling me how undeserving I am of him, and how he deserves better. I kinda just snapped one day and blew up at him, bringing up all that he has said to me, and done, and his response was "You cheated too!" And his defense for me cheating was hugging a FRIEND who needed COMFORT. I was LIVID and kept yelling at him to the point he now avoids me, and now I feel so bad about what I did, I want to apologize, by my friends tell me not to, as he never apologized for what he did, nor did he stay loyal. My best friend highly recommends I don't say anything because my ex always gives me weird looks, especially when passing by him. So I'd like to know if I am the AH for yelling at him? Should I apologize? I just feel so bad..
Edit: SORRY FOR THE MISSPELLING IN THE TITLE!! THAT WAS MY BAD!

2024.05.15 03:52 Calledinthe90s The Mortgage, Part 3

I accidentally posted this to my username instead of my subreddit so here is is:
The Mortgage, Part 3
“Fuck,” I said as I drove to work in the old beater that only started on the fourth try because it could tell that I was pissed off. Ray’s case started at two o’clock, and I was heading to the office to get ready. “Fuck fuck fuckity fucking fuck. Fuck.” I’d wanted to tell Angela about Ray’s case, and how I was sorry that I hadn’t wanted to help him, but now I would, I would help him, and I would win, but then I’d gotten her all riled up on something else, something totally different, something way more serious.
My wife had given me a triple ultimatum: fix things up with her father, save idiot Ray from Sy-Co Corp., and somehow find a downpayment for the place she wanted to buy, in the little townhouse infill project in Bixity. It was like demanding I do a double bank shot, and then run over to the baseball diamond and hit a home run after first pointing to where it would land, Babe Ruth style.
Angela was mad at me, seriously mad. She’d slipped out that morning before I was even awake, sliding quietly past me on the couch. I didn’t realize she was gone until I heard the faint click of the front door closing. I jumped up, tripped over a blanket, and by the time I got up and my robe on, the elevator down the hall dinged, and Angela was gone before I opened the apartment door.
I swore at myself some more and pounded the steering wheel, “I fucked up,” I said, several times as I hit the wheel over and over again, until I accidentally honked it, and then looked all sheepish when the guy in front of me gave me the finger. I reached my office without further incident, but instead of walking in the front door, I went further down the hall, and into the office of Mark Cecil-Rowe, Barrister, LL.D, the man with the finest speaking voice I ever heard. When I entered his office I forgot for a minute about Angela and her father and sleeping on the couch the night before. I forget about everything, except the reason that I had come to Cecil-Rowe’s office: to stump him with a legal problem that I had solved, but which I was pretty sure he could not. In other words, I had come to preen and to brag and to boast. No one likes a showoff, and I had come to show off. I put my hand on the door and turned the knob. After a brief pause, I flung open the door.
“I’m a goddamn genius,” I said as I strolled into the older man’s office.
I noticed the echo of a hastily closed desk drawer hanging in the air. In Aaron’s office, where I rented space, a sudden act of concealment implied cocaine, but with Cecil-Rowe, the item in question was probably a mickey of vodka. I had the sense that he’d been drinking a bit before I arrived, but his powers of observation were unimpaired, and when he looked into my face, his expression showed sympathy, and actual pain.
“What have you done now?” he said, as set the papers before him to one side, and readied himself to hear my latest tale of legal brilliance.
“I’m a genius,” I said.
“Oh dear. Have a seat.”
“No really, I am. I’m a genius. I got this case that everyone says you can’t win, but I’m gonna win it, and when I do, I’m gonna look like a genius.” Cecil-Rowe gave me a sad indulgent smile.
“Whenever you tell me you’re a genius, I am always concerned about what is to follow. When you get wrapped up in what you call your genius, you tend to ignore the more mundane things we lawyers have to do to win a case. You think you’re going to win by genius alone.”
“Let me tell you why I’m a goddamn genius.” With effort I wiped the smug, self-satisfied expression that was on my face.
“Tell me why you’re a genius,” Cecil-Rowe said, “while I pour us a coffee.” He heaved his bulky body up from his chair and shuffled over to a counter. He picked up a carafe of hot coffee sitting on a hot plate, and poured two cups. “Speak,” he said, handing me one. I took a sip of the coffee, and told Cecil-Rowe the tale of Cousin Ray: his purchase of a franchise from Sy-Co Corp, its swift demise, the crash and burn in Commercial Court, the Minutes of Settlement, the seventy-one kilometer limit, and lastly, Sy-Co’s motion scheduled for two p.m. that very day, seeking an interim injunction shutting down Ray’s place.
Cecil-Rowe absorbed all this without the need to take notes. Instead, he sat back while he eyed me, taking the occasional sip of coffee, and smiling at the extravagant flourishes and details that brought out Ray’s story to full effect.
“Obviously Ray is dead on arrival,” he said, “but I guess this is the part where you tell me how you’re going to win.”
So I told him how I was going to win, but it didn’t have the desired effect. “I told ya I’m a genius, Mr. C,” cueing him to applaud, to admit what a brilliant lawyer I was. But there was no applause from Mark Cecil-Rowe. He looked at me without so much as a smile.
“You can cling to that genius notion as a consolation prize, after you get whipped this afternoon in court.”
“No way,” I said, “not a chance. I got this thing won hands down. I’m gonna kick ass in court today and--”
“And how exactly do you plan to do that, if you don’t have evidence?”
“What?”
“Evidence, Calledinthe9os. It’s what lawyers like me use to beat geniuses like you.”
“But I’m gonna win without proof. I don’t need proof. The argument I’m gonna make, relies on simple facts that are totally obvious, so the judge is gonna--” Cecil-Rowe stuck up his hand.
“Stop right there. I know what’s coming. You’re going to ask the judge to take *judicial notice.”
And he was right. That was exactly what I was going to do.
There are some things so obvious that you didn’t have to prove them, things that everyone knew. You didn’t have to prove that water froze at zero degrees and boiled at a hundred, or that Bixity was between West Bay and East Bay.
“You got it,” I said, “judicial notice all the way.”
“You’re going to tell the judge that the centerpiece of your argument, the lynchpin of your case is a fact known to pretty well everyone, and so you don’t need proof.”
Exactly,” I said. Cecil-Rowe took another sip of his coffee, and left me hanging in the silence for a while before he spoke.
“If that’s true, then why does coming up with that argument make you a genius?”
“Oh, I said,”I didn’t think of that.”
“It is acceptable to rely on judicial notice for minor, ancillary points. But you never should walk into court thinking that the court will take judicial notice of your entire defence. It’s just too risky.”
“But how am I going to rustle up a witness in time for this afternoon?”
“Worry about that after you leave my office. I can’t help you with that. What I want to know, is why you’re doing this at the last minute.”
“What makes you think I’m doing this at the last minute?”
“Because you never would have resorted to judicial notice if you were properly prepared. If you’d opened this case a bit earlier, you’ve have everything lined up. But you got to work on it late, and so you want to rely on judicial notice. You’ve messed up, Calledinthe90s, and you know what my rule is when you mess up.” Cecil-Rowe didn’t extend aid to me, until I admitted the error of my ways. It was infuriating, but he was inflexible. So I fessed up.
“My idiot cousin Ray’s been trying to retain me for almost two weeks, but I was putting him off because I was mad at him. So now my wife’s mad at me, and if I don’t win this case, I’m dead. Plus her dad’s mad at me too and --” My brain roared into overdrive, a mess of family and law and fear, and at the centre of it, thoughts of Angela’s anger and her father. My mind took off, and then came to an instant halt at a helpful destination.
“Yes?” Cecil-Rowe said.
“Sorry. I just realized how to solve the evidence problem. Look, can I ask you about the thing I actually came here to ask you about?”
“You have a problem that’s worse than having no evidence? What could be worse than -- oh. You don’t have a retainer. Your client doesn't have any money.”
“Exactly. How do I get paid? That’s the problem.” I explained that Ray had no money, as in none, and that if he did have money, he wouldn’t spend it on me. Instead, he’d go back downtown and throw his cash at some big firm, who would take on his case, and proceed to lose it in a calm, careful, sober manner, ending in a reporting letter to Ray telling him that he’d lost.
“Now that’s a problem I can solve,” Cecil-Rowe said.
“Really? ‘Cause I can’t see a way around it. I think I’m gonna have to do this for free, and that really pisses me off.” Cecil-Rowe shook his head.
“You may or may not get paid, but you can set things up so that if you win, you’ll win pretty good.”
“How? Ray’s a deadbeat. Tapped out.”
“But is he desperate?”
“Totally. The first time he failed, he lost his own money, but if he goes under this time, he’s taking family money with him, and he’ll be the black sheep forever.”
“And he’s using family to emotionally blackmail you into helping him?’
“Like no shit. That’s the part that pisses me off the most. I’m like a goddamn slave, being forced to work for free.”
“Never fear, young apprentice. I have just the thing in mind.” He reached into a drawer, and pulled out a form. “Fill in the blanks, and have him sign.”
I looked it over, and saw that the document was a retainer agreement. I whistled. “Holy shit. If he signs this, he’s almost my slave.”
“Close, but not quite” Cecil-Rowe said, “the Latin term for this is "contractus pro venditione animae"”. It’s the ultimate retainer agreement. Once Ray signs that, you own any cause of action he has against the person suing him. You can settle the case on any terms you like, and you get to keep whatever proceeds there are.” Cecil-Rowe placed the folder back in a drawer, and from his manner you could tell that the interview was over.
“Awesome, Mr. C. I’ll call you from Commercial Court when we’re done.”
Commercial Court?” he said.
“Yeah, Commercial Court.”
“This just keeps getting worse. Take notes, Calledinthe90s, while I school you on Commercial Court. Commercial Court is a jungle, and without preparation, you’ll get savaged.”
“That’s what happened to Ray when--”
“Take notes, young apprentice,” he said, tossing me a pad and a pen. He started to lecture, and I took notes that I have with me to this day, in a safe deposit box downstairs in the vault at Mega Bank Main Branch.
* * *
By the time Cecil-Rowe finished schooling me, it was close to ten, and the case started at two. I didn’t have much time. I ran down the hall to my office, and called Ray’s restaurant. No answer. Then I called Ray’s house. I expected to get Ray’s wife, but the man himself answered.
“You’re not at work. Why aren’t you at work?”
“Sy-Co Corp served all my employees with a cease and desist letter. They all got scared and took off. The place is shut down.”
“You gotta fax machine at home?” He did, and asked why.
“I’m taking your case, but only if you sign the paper I’m about to send and fax it back.” I sent the fax, and five minutes later it came back signed, and it was official: Ray had sold me his legal soul.
I went out to the parking lot, got into my beater and drove fast. In less than thirty minutes I reached my destination. I knocked on the door, and when it opened, my diminutive mother-in-law poked out her head. “What a pleasant surprise,” she said.
“Sorry, Mrs. M, but I’m in a super hurry. I gotta rush to get to court to help Ray. But first, I gotta speak to Dr. M.”
“He’s not here,” she said.
“Not here?”
“He’s on his way to his bridge game. He left just a few minutes ago.”
“Where’s the club?”
“He’s walking there,” she said, and pointed down the street.
“Thanks.” I got into my car and headed where Mrs. M had pointed, passing big houses and new project with an “Opening Soon” sign. And walking past it was the figure of Dr. M.
“Hey, Dr. M,” I called out the window. He stopped and looked around, startled. But he didn’t see me, not at first.
“It’s me, Dr. M. Me, Calledin90s.” He leaned forward as if to see me better. I got out of the car.
“Is something wrong with Angela? Or the baby?”
“No, no not at all, sorry to scare you, it’s nothing like that. I need your help.”
“Oh.” He started walking again, and now it was my turn to be a bit stunned, watching my father-in-law walk away from me. I caught up with him in a few quick strides.
“Listen, I really need your help.”
“And I really need to get to a bridge game.”
“This isn’t about me. It’s about Ray.” That brought him to a halt. He turned to me, angrier even than he’d been the night before.
“Did you drive all the way out here just to make fun of me? To remind me of how you won, distracting me with nonsense about Ray’s case?”
“I mean it,” I said, “I can win Ray’s case. I can prove it in a few words.”
“Prove it, then.” So I did. I spoke words, only a few words, but they were the right words to speak to Dr. M, for the words I spoke were in his language, words that he understood perfectly.
“I understand,” he said, “you’ve come to boast some more, to prove that you were right after all.”
“I want to win Ray’s case, but I don’t have any proof of what I’m saying.”
“You don’t need to prove that two plus two is four.”
“This, I gotta prove, and I need you to help me prove it. I need you to come to court with me, as my witness.”
“I can’t do that. I didn’t witness anything.”
“As my witness. My expert witness.” Unlike a normal witness, an expert witness can give an opinion. An expert is there not to advocate, I explained to Dr. M but to instruct, to teach.
“My bridge partner won’t be very happy,” he said.
“But Ray will, and so will Mrs. M and Angela and--”
“Very well. Do you have a cell phone? We can call the bridge club from my car.”
* * *
We were on the highway getting close to the downtown exit, when my wife called my cell phone. Back then cell phone service was super expensive and my wife only used it for emergencies. Or when she was really angry. I picked up the phone, wondering which it would be.
“I’m so happy that you made things up with my father,” she said.
“How did you know?”
“My mother called. She says you took him with you, that you went out together.”
“He’s with me right now,” I said.
“Where are you going?”
“To court. Going to court to win Ray’s case for him.”
“And you brought my father with you to watch?” She was so happy, I could hear in her voice that she was smiling. “That’s a great way to bond with him, Calledinthe90s. Look, I’m sorry I got so mad at you earlier, I really am. My dad’s a bit too sensitive and--”
“Sorry, Angela, your dad’s not coming to watch me.”
“Why is he with you, then?”
“He’s my witness,” I said.
“What?
“His expert witness,” Dr. M said, loudly enough for Angela to hear.
My wife’s anger exploded into the phone. She wanted to know how I could expose her elderly, vulnerable father to the stress of a court case. I tried to tell her how I needed him, how there was literally no one else I could turn to, that her father was an expert, a true expert, and the judge was legally bound to believe him, but Angela heard none of this.
“Look,’ I said, “I promise you that--” And then I lowered the phone and pushed the red button, terminating the call. I’d learned that the best way to hang up on someone, was to do it when I was doing the talking. That way it looked like the call had dropped.
“I’m going to steal that move,” Dr. M said.
We rolled into the parking lot. I grabbed the cloth bag out of the back of my car, the bag that held my law robes and shirt and tabs, plus the other stuff I needed for court. It was one-thirty, still thirty minutes to go, not a lot of time to get robed and ready for court. It was just past one-forty five when I, with Dr. M in tow, opened the door to a courtroom on the eighth floor of an old insurance building that had been converted into a courthouse, the home of Commercial Court.
“Commercial Court is an exclusive club,” Cecil-Rowe had explained to me earlier that day, “the legal playground of the rich and powerful. They’ll know instantly that you’re not one of them.” And he was right. It was clear from the moment I walked in that I did not belong, for I was the only lawyer in robes. Everyone else was wearing a suit, and not some cheap thing off the rack like I wore.
There were a half-dozen lawyers present, and after they saw me, they exchanged knowing looks about the stranger amongst them. I ignored them, and walked up to the Registrar. I told him the case I was on, and he signed me in.
“First time in Commercial Court?” he said, eyeing my robes. “You know you don’t have to be robed in Commercial Court.” In other Superior Courts, you always had to bring your robes and get all dressed up. But Commercial Court had its own set of rules, and in the court for rich people, their lawyers did not have to wear robes.
“You’re here on the Sy-Co case?” a young woman asked. She was a junior like me, give a year or two either way. She was dressed in the finest downtown counsel fashion, some designer thing that Angela would know if she saw it.
“Just got retained,” I said.
“You know there’s no adjournments, right? We don’t do adjournments in Commercial Court. I’m just trying to be helpful, because I don’t think you've been here before. You know you don’t have to be robed, right?
“So I heard.”
“So where’s your material? You haven’t served anything, so how do you plan to argue your case?”
“I gotta witness,” I said.
She smiled. “There’s no viva voce evidence, either. Affidavit only.”
“We’ll see what the judge says.” There was a knock from the other side of the door to the judge’s chambers, and then the man himself entered.
I was amazed to see that even the judge wasn’t wearing a robe; instead, he was wearing a light coloured suit and a bright blue bow tie. He was dressed as good as the lawyers, all part of the downtown Commercial Court club, the playground of the richest and most powerful corporations in the City.
“Commercial Court’s not like other courts,” Cecil-Rowe told me earlier that day, explaining that most cases were over in fifteen minutes or less. A plaintiff showed up with some papers, and had a short consultation with the judge. The judge signed an order granting an injunction, or taking away a man’s business, or freezing his money. Commercial Court is where you went to get quick and simple court orders that eviscerated your opponent before the case even got going.
Defendants would appear sometimes in Commercial Court, Cecil-Rowe explained, but it was usually their last time up. Defendants always died a quick death in Commercial Court.
The judge took his seat, and then looked over the lawyers before him. His eyes moved along, and then stopped when they reached me, the one lawyer who was not like the others.
“You don’t need robes in Commercial Court,” the judge said to me.
“I’ll remember that for next time,” I said.
“What case are you on?”
I told him.
“He’s filed no responding materials,” my opponent said, “nothing at all.”
“I’m just vetting the list,” the judge said, “I’ll circle back to you two in a few minutes.” I listend while the judge vetted the rest of the afternoon list: a Mareva, plus a Norwich order, with counsel on those cases sent away in a matter of minutes.
Now the courtroom was almost empty, just the judge, two lawyers, the registrar and my star witness and father-in-law, Dr. M, who sat in the back of the courtroom dressed in an old business suit, put on hastily at his place two hours earlier, when I urged him to hurry it up, to not waste so much time on picking a suit.
“Back to you,” the judge said, addressing my opponent, “I thought this was an uncontested matter. That’s what your confirmation sheet said.”
“I’m sorry, Your Honour, but I didn’t know until I got here that the case was defended.”
“I got retained at the last minute,” I said, “barely three hours ago, the day after I read the papers. But I’m ready to go, ready to argue the case on the merits, so long as you grant me an indulgence, and let me call my witness, to let him testify in person instead of by affidavit, there being no time for me to draft anything.”
Opposing counsel was on her feet. “That’s not how things are done in Commercial Court,” she said, “or any court that I know of, for that matter. My friend (that’s what they make lawyers call each other in court, ‘my friend,’ even though you might hate the other guy’s guts),” the lawyer said, “my friend should have served his responding materials and filed them with the court. Instead, he’s taken us totally by surprise.”
“I’m sorry my friend is surprised by opposition,” I said, “but then consider, it’s my client’s livelihood that’s at stake. If my friend gets her injunction, Ray Telewu’s business is dead, and he loses everything. So yes, my client opposes the injunction, and yes, I’d like to call evidence.”
The judge didn’t consult the papers before him nor the books, but instead, he looked up at the big white clock on the courtroom wall. Its hands said two-fifteen.
“How long will your witness take, counsel?”
“In chief, ten minutes.” I’d practiced with Dr. M on the way in, and I was pretty sure he could do it in five, but I gave him a bit of extra time, just in case.
“We’ve got about two hours,” the judge said, “but I want to be fair to you and your client. Let’s take a fifteen minute recess so you can get instructions. Either we go ahead today with viva voce evidence, or we adjourn, and that will give Calledinthe90s time to file responding materials.”
When everyone came back, the junior’s boss was there, Senior Counsel, a heavy weight, one of those big guys downtown. Plus they brought this guy from Sy-Co Corp, the head of some bullshit division, with some bullshit title, Head of whatever, so that’s the title I’ll give him here. He was The Head. He was the man, the big cheese, the signer of the affidavit on which Sy-Co relied that day.
“What’s he doing here?” I asked Senior Counsel.
He stared at me, all lean and steel grey, looking every inch the hard hitting lawyer that commanded the biggest fees. “If you’re calling a live witness, then so can we. The Head will give evidence today, in advance of your client, so that the judge hears it from him first.” His junior smirked at me, and the two of them sat down, delighted that they’d thought of a way to one up me.
Except that they’d done it by exposing their client to cross-examination. The judge came in, allowed the Head to testify, and when he was done, I stood up.
“Just a few questions,” I said. Senior Counsel was stunned for an instant, and then he stood.
“This serves no purpose, Your Honour. The witness has confirmed the simple facts of his affidavit, and there’s no disputing it. Ray Telewu opened a restaurant less than seventy-one kilometres from Bixity City Hall, and that’s in breach of the Minutes of Settlement he signed.”
I did not bother to respond. Instead, I just stood, and I started to ask questions.
“Have a look at that map in your affidavit,” I said, and he did. I picked up my copy, and tore the map out of it. I passed it up to him.
“What do you notice about this map?”
“That it’s accurate,” the Head said, repeating his evidence in chief, amplifying it, talking about how the map contained perfect measurement.
“You will notice that the map is flat,” I said, laying it on the witness box before him.
“Of course it’s flat. That’s what maps are. Maps are flat.”
“But the earth is round,” I said, “or more properly, a sphere.” Senior Counsel was on his feet in an instant.
“What difference does that make?” he said.
“What you’ll hear from my expert witness, is that a flat map cannot accurately show Earth’s curves. A flat map distorts distances, and in this case, reduces them.”
“But that can’t be by very much.”
“In this case, by just over twenty meters,” Dr. M said from the back of the court.
“That’s my expert witness, the esteemed Dr. M.” I didn’t actually say Dr. M. Instead, I said his real name. But I’m not going to use the real names of my family here, so I’ll just keep calling him Dr. M. “Dr. M was a professor of Physics at the University of Bixity for almost thirty years. He has published numerous papers on particle physics, and is the first Canadian winner of the Wolf Prize for physics.”
It went downhill after that for Sy-Co Corp. My father-in-law testified, explaining in simple language, language that even a child could understand, that the Earth was a sphere, that the shortest distance between two points on Earth was a curve, not a straight line. He summarized his calculations in plain English, dumbing down the math, so that everyone present imagined, if only for the moment, that they shared his understanding of a difficult mathematical equation.
Senior Counsel tried to cross-examine Dr. M, but it did not go well, my father-in-law indulging him, gently chiding him, continuing his explanations until the lawyer sat down, defeated by Dr. M’s mastery of the subject, his own lack of preparation and his inability to improvise. When counsel said that he had no further questions, the judge addressed us all.
“I’m not going to reserve, and I don’t think I need to tell everyone why. I think it will take about a minute for me to write a decision saying that the Earth is not flat. I’ll give you some more time after that, but after fifteen minutes, I”ll be back to render my decision.” He rose, everyone bowed, and he disappeared behind the door to judge’s chambers.
I pulled a piece of paper out of my file, and slammed it on the desk before Senior Counsel and his junior. “Fill in the blanks, and sign,” I said.
Dr. M’s head shot up at the commotion, and he shuffled over to see what was going on.
“What’s this?” Senior Counsel said, picking up the paper I gave him..
“Minutes of Settlement. You fill in a number, a big number, for the costs you gotta pay me. Your client signs, and then we’re done.” Senior Counsel opened his mouth to bargain, but I overrode him.
“You know your client’s going to lose; the judge made that obvious. Hurry up if you want to settle; we don’t have much time.”
At the end of most Canadian court cases, the loser has to pay at least part of the winner’s legal fees. That’s the way it’s been since forever, and I think it’s a good rule. Sy-Co Corp had lost, so it had to pay a good chunk of Ray’s costs, and Ray’s costs were somewhere between whatever bullshit figure I claimed they were, and where they actually ought to be. Senior Counsel took the paper over to his client. There was a brief discussion, and then they came back, with the form signed, and a number written in the blank space.
I’ll give it to Sy-Co Corp and their lawyer. It wasn’t a bullshit number, a low ball number. They gave me a real number, a number more like something I’d actually accept, a number that made sense to pay me in costs, in light of the success I’d had, and how I got it. It was a respectful number, a common sense number, and I appreciated it an awful lot.
I tossed the paper back at them.
“Add a zero,” I said, continuing on when Senior Counsel blanched, and his junior retreated a step. “I know what’s going on here. Your client sold mine a bullshit franchise, one with a history of failing.” The franchise had opened up again under a new owner not long after Ray had lost it and then it promptly failed again. Like I said at the start of this story, it’s an old story. It’s how some franchise companies make money. “Your client makes more money selling bullshit franchises doomed to fail, then it does from the honest ones that make money. So add a zero to that number, or Ray’s gonna sue you, class action and all that, for all the people you’ve fucked.”
The Head stepped forward from the benches and spoke to me.
“We get threats like that all the time, but no one follows through. They don’t have the money to fight us, and neither does your client. So go ahead and sue.”
“It’s true that Ray doesn’t have jack shit,” I said, “not a pot to piss in, but he’s my cousin, Ray is, and even if he doesn’t have money, he’s got me. Ray’s family, and for Ray, I’ll sue you guys for free. Hell, I’ll even pay the expenses. Plus I’m gonna put a jury notice in, too, come to think of it, ‘cause juries--”
Senior Counsel cut me off, and moved his client to the back of the courtroom. There was a brief discussion, and then they came back. I watched as Senior Counsel wrote a single digit on the Minutes, a zero, written right where I wanted it.
“You’ll have to initial the change,” I said to the Head of Sy-C0, and it gave me great satisfaction to watch him sign.
“Don’t forget,” I said the moment his pen stopped moving, “for the settlement to be valid, I need to get the money today. Right now.”
“Can’t it wait until tomorrow?” the Head said.
“Not if you want the settlement to stay in place. I’ll follow you back to your office, and you can put a cheque in my hands.”
“What’s this?” my wife said when I entered the apartment later that day, after I’d driven Dr. M home, stopping first at a local pub for beers.
“It’s an absurdly expensive bunch of flowers,” I said, “although no flowers, however beautiful, however expensive, could expiate my--”
She took the flowers, and gave a kiss.
“My mom called. She told me what happened. You fixed things with my dad.”
“Yup,” I said. I had certainly done that. I’d made Dr. M a professor again, if only for a few minutes. Not only a professor, but an expert witness. The judge had declared him an expert in plain terms and Dr.M had beamed when he’d heard those words.
“And you won Ray’s case, too. But my mom didn’t know how, and I don’t know how you did it either.”
“I’ll tell you over dinner tonight,” I said.
“But we agreed no more dinners out; we have to save money, now that a baby’s coming.”
I passed her the envelope that I’d received a few hours before. She opened it, and took out a cheque, a cheque drawn up for an amount I specified, made payable to Mr. and Mrs. Calledinthe90s.
The moment I got that cheque, all I could think about was how my wife would react when I put it into her hands. I could not wait to see her eyes bulge, to hear her voice say “oh my god,” to hear her laugh.
She did none of these things. Instead, she cried.
“Does this mean we can buy a house?” The money wouldn’t be enough to buy a house, not nowadays, with prices being so crazy. But things were different back then in the 90s. Sure, the internet was barely a thing and cell phones were super expensive and a lot of things sucked, but I’ll give the nineties one thing: houses were cheap.
“I think so,” I said.

2024.05.15 03:16 Apprehensive-Mud9403 f17 would making a move on this guy be a bad move on my part

ok so basically junior prom just happened and somehow me and my friends' prom dates all happen to be a friend group themselves. most of us were going just as friends (which is what i thought my date and i were going as). prom was ass and i spent the whole time trying to avoid my date bc he started to drop hints that he was into me but the after party was fun. at the after party my date was all over me and it was highkey gross 😭 but basically we all drank a lot and were just having fun.
one of my friends (we're not super close but we're still good buddies) went with this guy that i've always kind of liked and who i've always thought was super cute and funny. my friend was NOT into him at all though, and they barely hung out together at prom. after prom and before the party i was in the bathroom with her and i asked her if she liked him and she said "hell nah he's so annoying" and when i was like "i lowkey fw him" she said "yeah u have my blessing i'm not into him at all." but later on that night she got totally wasted and was lying on top of him totally blackout drunk and he kissed her even though she was obliterated. the next day my friend wasn't bothered that he kissed her but she said that she wouldn't have wanted it if she was sober. all of the girls got really mad and were like "he assaulted her" (which i lowkey don't agree with bc he was also drunk and she kissed him back) and the guys were all making fun of him and created rumors that he raped her 💀
ok so by now everything has blown over but everybody knows what happened between the two of them and there's some bad blood. also i've had to deal with my date and it was very awkward but i friend zoned him. i really like the guy who's now hated by a lot of my friends 😭 should i make a move or not? also i haven't spoken about liking him to the friend that went with him since the kiss happened. i really don't want to upset her, but i don't think that would happen bc she literally did not care abt everything that went down. however, our friends really hate the guy
tldr i like a guy who my friends hate for "taking advantage" of my friend and who is friends with the guy i just friendzoned. would it be bad of me and will there be bad repercussions if i make a move 😭

2024.05.15 00:18 CabinetNecessary6178 My Primarch GF Chronicle: Petra’s Anvil (F! Perturabo’s SO)

Disclaimer: This current version is the "good" route so most endings will be somewhat happy/hopeful but will still be (mostly) canon compliant
What happened
During the gruelling campaign against the Hrud where Petra and the Anvil fought side by side together with their legion they suddenly received an emergency message from Olympia sent by Petra’s adoptive sister Calliphone. The message went on to deliver the news that Olympia have fallen into disarray with the widespread discontent devolving into outright violence and a civil war ensued. This devastating news led to Petra having to cut her campaign short right on the eve of the decisive battle against the last of the Hrud, deeming the threat to be mostly neutralised and Olympia being a bigger priority.
On their journey returning to Olympia, there was a heated discussion between Petra , her inner circle known as the Trident and The Anvil on the most appropriate course of action. While Petra wanted to swiftly end the conflict by putting down all the warring factions violently and eliminate all those responsible for Olympia falling into such disarray, her Anvil, ever the diplomat at heart suggest only eliminating those who refuse to stand down and come to the negotiating table to resolve the cause of discontent and reform the planet’s government to prevent such an incident from ever occurring again. Despite everyone, including Petra herself, agreeing to this course of action, it was all for naught as when the Iron Warriors landed on Olympia, they were immediately fired upon by one of the many insurrectionist factions. Already being enraged from having to cut the Hrud campaign short, such an act of defiance, by her own home world no less, proved to be the last straw as the Countess of Iron immediately rescinded her previous orders and instead ordered the Iron warriors to eliminate of anyone even showing any hint of resistance or sympathy towards the insurgents.
Immediately after Petra’s new orders were issued, the Anvil left and informed several likeminded officers who , along with the men under their command, decided to join their Primarch’s lover in stopping this madness. They immediately contacted Calliphone and began coordinating evacuation efforts and delaying the Iron Warriors under Petra for as long as possible by causing deliberate miscommunication and sowing general confusion within the ranks with the help of those Iron Warriors who while sympathetic to their cause dared not to openly oppose their Primarch. This was met with relative success as several units of Iron Warriors “accidentally” marched on an uninhabited area on the planet or deliberately loudly discussing Petra’s latest orders within earshot of Olympian citizens. Despite this relative success, many Iron Warriors, especially those under Petra’s direct command, still followed through with the Primarch’s orders which led to the death of at least over half of the planet’s population with thousands remaining unaccounted for.
The deception could not go on forever however, and Petra soon learn of the actions of her lover and adoptive sister. Enraged and confused by the actions of the two people she trusted most, the countess of Iron stopped her assault and contacted both the Anvil and Calliphone under a flag of truce to discuss the matter and understand why they would go to such lengths for people she perceived as “traitors and rebels”. Petra and her officers arrived at the agreed upon location for the truce to find only her lover and Calliphone waiting there. It is not fully known what truly transpired during the discussion but it ultimately ended with Calliphone’s death and the Anvil being allowed to peacefully leave Olympia alongside all the people they’ve saved , the soldiers and Iron Warriors who chose to follow them.
Years later, a rumor within the legion would surface telling of what happened with the alleged source of this story being one of the officers who accompanied Petra to the truce negotiations. According to this rumor, it was said that the discussion got heated when Calliphone began berating the Primarch about how she should’ve contacted Calliphone first and that Petra has “taken things too far”. Offended by such remarks from a “mere mortal” one of the junior officers accompanying Petra grabbed her by the throat and strangled her on the spot. This drew the ire of Petra who felt that the officer had not only violated her command but made her into an oathbreaker, the Primarch then proceeded to beat the officer to death with her bare hands on the spot before accepting the terms presented by her lover and allow them to leave in peace as is officially known.
Once the Anvil and those that have accompanied her had left Olympia, Petra had begun creating the design for the robots that would later become known as The Iron Circle as she felt that she no longer had anyone she could fully trust by her side. Meanwhile, the Anvil sought out the warsmith Barabas Dantioch who assisted them in properly organising a fleet and finding a relatively unknown and well hidden planet to temporarily act as a base for both the refugees of Olympia and the soldiers and Astartes who followed them.
Once the heresy had broken out the Anvil was initially horrified and appalled by Petra’s actions on Istvaan V. However, horror soon made way for concern once a member of the Trident contacted the Anvil, informing them of the events that transpired on Iydris and how Petra nearly died at the hands of her own sister, Fulgrim. Determined to settle their conflicting emotions of horror for her prior actions and concern given the recent events that occurred they decided to confront Petra one last time to discuss the future of their relationship.
The Anvil chose to make their way towards Terra knowing that the traitors would definitely concentrate all their forces there and hoping to confront Petra alongside most of their Astartes and soldiers while leaving the Olympian refugees under the protection of a small garrison force. However, their fleet were suddenly intercepted by an Alpha Legion warship who informed them that they should avoid entering the Sol system as the siege of Terra was already well underway and gave them information on how Petra and the Iron Warriors would soon be replaced by the Death Guard as the ones leading the siege of Terra along with how the Warmistress sought to use the Iron Warriors on Terra as a spearhead to soak up most of the casualties before sending in her own legion into the fray. Understanding that such actions could unnecessarily put Petra in great danger, the Anvil chose to forward all of this information along with a message to meet and talk about their relationship and “forever home” later using a direct communication device given to them by Petra before departing Olympia all those years ago. The Anvil later received a reply from Petra thanking them for the information and was informed that the given info was one of the deciding factors in her decision to abandon the siege of Terra. The message then went on to state that they should meet and discuss their future together after she settled things “one last time” with her sister Dorn.
Later on, the Anvil received another message from an agent of the Alpha Legion stating that they should ”Head to Sebastus IV as soon as possible, or risk losing the one you love forever”. Given that this was from the same Alpha Legionnaire who informed them of the siege of Terra, they chose to believe it and immediately head for the planet alongside their retinue of men. The Anvil arrived at the “Eternal Fortress” on the planet near the end of the battle that would later be known as the “Iron Cage”. While the battle was nearly over the Anvil finally managed to confront Petra just as she was about to begin her ritual of sacrificing Imperial Fist gene seed to ascend to daemonhood.
When they were reunited for the first time in years, the Anvil began pleading for Petra to just abandon the ritual and leave together to a peaceful place where they can settle down and build their “Forever Home” together. After a moment of silence that seemed to last an eternity, Petra finally ordered the gene seed to be removed from her presence ordered a general withdrawal and departed with her lover before the Ultramarines arrived to relieve the fists.
In her final actions as the leader of her legion Petra guided them to the planet of Medrengard and built the fortress there to act as their new base of operations and left her legion under the command of the Trident before giving the Astartes in her legion a choice between peacefully retiring to the hidden world where the descendants of the refugees from Olympia resides or continue the long war here in Medrengard.
Once all was said and done, Petra relinquished the command of her legion and departed her lover abroad the Iron Blood, guarded by The Iron Circle. Finally leaving all the war and bloodshed behind for good and depart for their “Forever Home”.
Afterword: Oh man this one took quite a bit of work lol I was gonna write about what they’re currently up to in the 41st millennium but I just felt that leaving it open ended like this is probably better.
As for the nickname “Anvil” that was something I came up with myself based on Perty’s canon nickname of the “Hammer of Olympia” so I decided to make the SO an anvil to go along with Petra’s hammer. It’s also a reference to how anvils acts a workbench for the hammer and help support/soak up the hammer’s strikes much like the pair’s relationship dynamic.
Credits u/Sweet_older-Sister for making the AU a reality u/NadiaFortuneFeet for the female name of Petra
I hope you guys enjoy it and any feedback and criticism is welcome.

2024.05.14 22:39 issquibby Should I report an obssessive girl to the police for cyberbullying?

Hello! I have an issue that I really could use advice for. There is this girl (let's call her Bee) that has apparently been talking bad about me on Instagram and even spreading this false information and slander to 20+ other people. I knew Bee in high school and she was one of my first friends. We got along well and didn't really haven't any problems, until I learned that she was a pathological liar. There was some drama in our Freshman year in which Bee claimed that this girl pushed her down the stairs and even went on to jumping Bee on her way home from school. This was all confirmed by her on accident when my other friend when to ask her upfront. She said that she made it all up and then suddenly changed her mind about it seconds later. When we asked her again, she acted as if nothing happened. Weird. A month later, during lunch, she brought up the bullying again, but I told her that because the other person confirmed it to be true, and that she just shrugged it off when we confronted her, that it was probably not true (looking back on it, it was not my place to get involved and whether or not it was true or not, I shouldn't have said anything). Bee was enraged and started crying and screaming that it was true and that stirred up a lot of commotion. Eventually, she was sent to the guidance office and nothing was ever said about it again. A month later, she lied that I had sent an email asking her to come to the my mom's shop. I told her that I never sent her an email (because I did not). She then told her mother that I lied to her and that her and her mom would never be coming back to my mom's shop again. During this fallout of our friendship, apparently she was talking bad about me and making posts claiming that I was spreading rumors about her mom abusing her...wtf.
Two years later, Junior year, we became friends again after clearing things up. I wasn't as close to her and made sure I kept my distance from her. Everything was fine up until Senior year. I was walking to class when one of my best friends notified me that Bee had been lying to me about our friendship. She told me that Bee was "only friends with she so she could get test answers to pass math". I had been tutoring Bee in math so I don't know what test answers she referring to. I wasn't directly giving her answers so I think she was just making it up. I told my friend not to worry about it. After hearing that, I was having second thoughts about continuing our friendship but did not leave until after graduation because I was a big people pleaser and didn't want anyone to get hurt. Also if I would've confronted her about it, who knows if she would be telling the truth.
Fast forward to last October and I'm in my college dorm getting ready to go out to see a movies with my firends/dormmates when suddenly I recieve a message on Instagram. It was a paragraph sent by Bee from one of her many fake Instagram accounts. It was difficult to decipher as the message was written as if she did it on talk to text (knowing her she probably did) but I am almost certain that it was a message with the intent of making negative remarks towards my younger sister's weight (my younger sister who is 14) Now I was mad. I didn't care what she had to say about me, but when she brought up with youngest sister, I was furious. Out of impulse, I posted it on my Insta story but immediately took it down as it would've most likely given her unneeded attention which she wants. The post, though up for a little while, caught the attention of two friends who were really close to me and Bee especially. They reached out to me asking if I was okay and that if I ever needed anything, I could let them know. One of my best friends, the one from the second paragraph, notified me that Bee was yet again talking bad about me on Snapchat and posting negative stuff about me. My friend called her out and in that chat (she sent me screenshots) Bee was making more negative remarks about my younger sister and starting talking bad towards that friend. I told this to my friends/dormmates Li and Shi (not real names) and they were furious. Li started talking back to Bee on Instagram to defend me which brought out responses from Bee such as "why can't she fight her fights, she needs people to fight for her" and things like that. I do not have control over what my friends choose to do. Although this is not how I would approach it, I am nonetheless grateful for them.
Now, as I am writing this, I happen to be facing this same issue that I didn't really care about until today. While chatting with Li, I was informed that Bee had made an Instagram chat called "[OP'S NAME HERE] hate club". She invited Li for some strange reason and Li didn't accept but was watching the chatroom. Apparently, Bee had invited 20+ people (minors) to this chatroom to make threats towards me saying how ther're going to "run me over with a bus" and "throw me off a bridge". Though it was most likely a harmless threat, it was a threat nonetheless. I wanted to shrug this off, but I could not help but wonder why she is still persistently pursuing this hate towards me. We are both literally legal adults now so it doesn't make sense to me why she still has this mindset that she had from her high school years. Li and Shi and telling me how they are going to report her but honestly I'm a bit worried. Bee's not the most mentally sane person and I'm worried that even though she is more bark than bite, that she may actually do something harmful to me and/or people that I am close to. She knows where we live and where my mom works and has her family convinced that I am a terrible person and her family is seemingly not sane from what Bee had told me prior about their abusive and toxic relationship.
We are planning to report her to the police, but I'm worried about what's to come if we do. I am honestly fearing for my life that she will do something harmful or that her family will do something harmful. Also, my family is aware of this situation and my sister said they could report her but not to involve me..? I don't know! I'm freaking out and anxiosu about the situation. What should I do from a legal standpoint?

2024.05.14 13:03 bucketlist01 Am I allowed to feel some way?

I posted this in another sub, just trying to spread it.
So me and my girlfriend, both 17, have finally hit our 1 year 'anniversary'. Even better, it was on our junior prom a few days ago. Anyways. I want to preface this by saying I'm an insecure, overthinking person so please don't throw any extremes in the replies. And sorry for the long post and possible confusion, there's just a lot on my mind
About a week ago, I'd say Tuesday, she started being very very distant. Me and her would talk literally everyday for hours unless it's during her period, I always understand and support her the best I can. She started talking to a group of guys she met of fortnite(12yo to our age). She's been playing with them from after she gets home until really late at night. We text, but the "conversations" either span over a whole day with hour long gaps between replies or she just sends tiktoks and that's it. I said something about it and she said she's sorry, so there's that, but she still did it everyday. I don't ever expect her to reply immediately, but for the times where I respond instantly, I never understand why it takes hours to get back.
It feels like the only times I've talked to her since last Tuesday was when she was super tired in the morning during school and on prom. I don't mean to be mad or upset but I just don't understand. I know that she likes to make friends which I've always been fine with. It's just the fact that she's more or less prioritized them over her boyfriend so easily after just a week.
Even worse is that I don't know how to word how I feel without making her upset. We finally talked today about a few small things, I didn't know how to bring up everything like here, and she told me that everytime I've confronted her about something that bothered me she cried after. I don't ever say anything mean, but I can be passive aggressive over text which is why I hate texting in the first place.
The one thing that kept irking me was that she'd randomly start talking about all of them for super long for no reason. Whenever she did that I just turned myself off so I don't hear it. Not because I don't like that she's happy, but because I genuinely don't care. They are people I don't want to meet or even become friends with them, and that's not her fault. Even during the whole call, she was just playing with them, even after asking me and having me wait to play with her even though we never played. And at the end of the call, she said she's gonna shower and sleep. She said that at 10:30, its almost 12, and she was still playing with them. Yes, I know it's petty even to check that, but it's these tiny little things that get to me.
My biggest question is, am I even allowed to feel anything about this? Am I the bad guy for feeling a certain way about her and friends? Do i just let this play out? Im not trying to make her seem like the bad guy either. My biggest fear is being that controlling/jealous/possessive person, and I feel like that's what I'm tilting towards for feeling this way.

2024.05.14 07:44 momtwo6 All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership...

It's been 6 months of feeling isolated and ignored. I've been targeted by my Section SGT and while he has become less direct to me recently, he's doubled down behind my back. He discusses my profiles (that he's never seen) openly with junior enlisted in open area, spreads lies and rumors, talks about getting rid of me from the platoon or company, discusses meeting details about me after talking with the plt sgt and 1SG. If there's paperwork to give me, he'll walk past me and toss it elsewhere and not even tell me that it's there. If I ask for help, he'll accuse me of trying to get out of work and refuse to help. Yet I'm known for ALWAYS jumping in and helping, I'm consistently not given needed information.
The best I get is that it's his personality and he really doesn't like anyone. People won't speak to me when he's around which he always is, so I'm constantly ignored and excluded. I'm told that I did nothing wrong and keep my head down, hopefully he'll lose interest.
I've had outside people try to get me pulled into a different brigade because they saw how bad it was. Which just made him more mad that I'd try to leave. I tried going to a different platoon and was told things would improve but they've gotten worst. I'm seeing MFLAC and have spoken with the Chaplain. Both want me out of the company and also said to file an EO complaint.
I hate that it's come to this and really had it in my mind to stand my ground and not leave. But at this point, it's wearing down my mental health and not worth it at all.
How do I best communicate all of this in a way that opens leaderships eyes to how it's impacting me? I'm tired of being told he's not a great leader and that they'll talk to him and warn him of his behavior one more time. It's like everyone can see it but is just watching it fall apart.
Is this even worthy of an EO complaint or is that too far?
I'll take a bottle water and melatonin because I'm too stressed to eat or sleep.

2024.05.14 06:59 Majestic-Buffalo8727 Aita for telling my ex-crush to go to hell…

In my sophomore year of high school I fell in love with this girl. Let’s call her “traitor”. When i first met traitor everything was great,we got along great until…I told her I had feelings for her… that’s when everything had turned to st. She started accusing me of things I wasn’t doing. She started to become uninterested in me. She started to act like I wasn’t worth her time and that hurt my soul. So the rest of that year, traitor and I argued(sometimes my fault and most times her fault) fast forward to my junior year… traitor treated me like complete st. Let me give you some examples of what she did to me:
1.would make offense and hurtful jokes but would get mad when I would do what she was doing
  1. she would talk crap about me to all of her friends and have them give me stupid looks and lie about it that she never did any of that and they were all just rumors
  2. She would make up, lies about my friends, threatening to jump her. When half of them don’t even know her.
  3. She would blame everything on everybody else except her boyfriend… she could never take the responsibility for herself
  4. Knowing that I liked her, she would tell me about her and her boyfriend”spicy stuff” which would make me feel sick because she knew that I liked her
  5. We were only allowed to talk about what she wanted to talk about otherwise it wasn’t important.
  6. She had given out my number and had her friends cyber bully me, blamed it on them, and threaten to tell the police that I was harassing her if I went to go to the police about her friends.
  7. She lied that I gotta stay order on her. That said we had to stay 50 feet away from each other.
  8. I always had to walk on eggshells with her and etc. So after all of this, she had blocked me because she didn’t want to admit her wrongdoings and then when I apologize to her, she had no problem with that
so the forgiving part of me decided to give her another chance because I believe in more chances and I always wanna see the best in people . I guess I had made a joke that she didn’t like, but she didn’t let me know(which usually she would make jokes that I didn’t like and I would just have to sit there and take it and keep my mouth shut) she ended up blocking me and when I confronted her about it, she tried to ignore me but when she couldn’t avoid me anymore she said, and I quote:” oh yeah me and my boyfriend talked about it and we both don’t really don’t want to talk to you(a.k.a. you’re not worth my time)”when I heard say that, that broke me. that’s when I shouted in front of all the courtyard “ you wanna f****k up your life that’s on you,go to hell,b****ch “ later I felt so bad about what I had said, and I was thinking of apologizing and giving her another chance but as much as I want to give her another chance, trying to take the little good times we had isn’t worth it. as much as I wanted it to be, but sometimes I do question myself whether I was the a-hole or not and if I should go up to her and apologize.
So,aita for telling her to go to hell?
P.s feel free to give advice,it’s very much needed ❤️ and sorry if this is really bad this is my first time doing this…
and I will also also try my best to give you guys an update if there is one to give.

2024.05.14 00:39 Strong_Dependent5066 AITAH for saying happy birthday to my bsfs ex ?

I (F) have a best friend (F), basically wayyyy before me and my female girl best friend met I had a guy best friend.
When I met my gbsf (we’re gonna call her Lana and we’re gonna call her ex Alex) when I met Lana I was already best friends with Alex eventually Lana and Alex liked each other and ofc they told me they liked the other.
Lana told me she liked Alex and Alex told me he liked Lana so without selling the other out to them I got them together everything was perfect for 8 months until they started arguing, they would ask for my opinion and I opted to stay out of it. (Cause they’re both my bsfs tf I supposed to help you w?)
When they broke up it was so messy, tears, fighting, screaming, petty remarks , rumors, Lana threw milk on Alex at one point (just acting like children)
Anyways, recently it was Alex’s birthday I posted on my Snapchat “Happy birthday ”Alex” you’re a good friend and I’m grateful for you “ I said happy birthday because for my birthday he got me presents and said happy birthday to me I’m obviously gonna have fucking manners and be cordial?
Whatever whatever said happy birthday he said thank you, later in the day Lana swipes up Saying “crazy.” I said “I’m sorry, are you upset ?” She said “Ian even mad ts js weird you told me he was flirting with you and now you’re writing paragraphs about him?”
FIRSTLY, after they broke up he would try to flirt with me but I told him to shut it down and it makes me uncomfortable and he stopped and ofc I told her (that’s my bsf fuck?) but I’m sorry paragraphs about him? Baby I wrote 3 SENTENCE WORTH I WROTE 12 WORDS. And one of those words was tagging him.
Anyways she called me weird and said she wasn’t mad she was js finding it weird, but then Lana’s little sister texted me saying “why are you fucking writing paragraphs about him when yk how badly he hurt Lana” first of all it was 12 fucking words..I told her “it was a couple words he got me stuff and said happy birthday on my birthday all I said was happy birthday I don’t get the issue with this ?”
Lana’s little sister proceeded to ridicule me (she’s in 5th grade I’m not finna argue w a child 😂😂😂) and I js said okay, when this all started and Lana texted me she told me I sajd “I love you “ to him but I never did that was another girl so, what? Anyways our texts went like this
Me - “ Then I don’t remember saying I love you to him but on some real shit I’m sorry if I upset you n shit I would be mad too ik you deserve better n I rlly don’t wanna fight w you abt smth like this n I get where you’re coming from 100% you’re absolutely right n shi n honestly I’m sorry about making you feel like that I’m glad you told me and I’ll work to fix it At the end of the day you’re my bsf n I consider you a sister to me n you have every right to be mad I’ll give you space n shit to js think n be alone “
Lana - “okay well that’s still fucking weird”
Now here’s we’re I’m upset about, Lana is BEST FRIENDS WITH MY FUCKING EX.
My ex cheated on me, abused me, played w my feelings, barely committed to me, spread rumors about me etc. but Everytime he tries talking to her or play fighting her she play fights back or gets all giggly and laughs.
You’re mad at me for saying happy birthday but you wanna be friendly to someone who genuinely hurt me, I’m not saying he didn’t hurt her but I know everything that happened and I’m not finna put my homegirls business out there cause she still my day 1 idgaf but the beef was miscommunication over him play fighting girls.
I get you could be going through it but you not finna sit in my face and say I’m fucked up when you over here having Kumbaya moments.
Anyways sorry this js long but I genuinely love this girl I’ll take any advice or opinions you guys can give me I don’t wanna loose this girl I just can’t loose her she was with me when a loved one committed suicide she was with me when my dog died she’s been through it all with me
AITAH?
Edit 1 - I took someone’s advice and I told her she can’t control who I’m talking to but I understand why she wouldn’t like it I told her I’m uncomfortable with her being friends with my ex she proceeded to say im flipping the situation to make me look like the victim and lately she thinks I’m acting shady, weird and stuff I do is starting tk annoy her
For example she told me that when they broke up she thought I would have taken her side and completely cut him off she said she felt betrayed and that I was flirting with him because he doesn’t bring lunches to school (we’re juniors in high school) so I always offer some of my food (I always bring an extra yogurt or sandwhich or whatever I made that day because I know he’s gonna be hungry) and when I gave him my food she thought it was my “excuse to talk to him” I told her that’s ridiculous and I’d never let someone to hungry especially if I have extra food
I’ve been looking at her reposts on TikTok (yes I’m a stalker I js missssss my girlllll ) and she’s been reposting a bunch of stuff saying “these females doing me wrong” or js shit that says she got betrayed, when I made this post I was angry and needed to vent I worked out took my dog for a walk and now that I’m calm I’m not angry with her I’m just anxious she’s gonna end our friendship and I still don’t see the issue with me wishing someone a happy birthday I told her I was truly just trying to be cordial with him and that if nothing was going on between me and him before they dated nothings going to happen now ESPECIALLY if that’s her ex.
Plus Me and “Alex’s” friend (we’ll call him Leo) have been going on dates lately (dinners, picnics, watching movies at the others house, our families throwing like pool backyard stuff and inviting the other, etc ) so there’s quite literally nothing there between me and “Alex” “Leo”is a sweetheart and exactly my type “Alex” is the bipolar opposite of Leo but the two are best friends I told lana this and she said she wanted time and she didn’t know if she wanted to end the friendship with me because she quote on quote “Doesn’t know if she can trust me” and “doesn’t wanna interact with a potential snake”
She called me a potential snake..
I have no hard feelings towards Lana I’ve never been one to get hurt by words I just wanna let her get all her anger out she started getting disrespectful and I put my foot down and told her
“I know you’re angry but you have no fucking right to disrespect me when I’ve been nothing but logical and understanding with you I’ve tried getting your point and I’m sorry I caused you to hurt I really am but you can’t seem to calm down and be reasonable so please stop blowing my phone up and please only talk to me when you’re open to a logical unbiased conversation”
And I left it with that (I’ll fs give more updates)
