I know a major part of streaming is also engaging in your community and posting content outside of just straight live streams. What platforms do you like to use to do this on? what are the pros/cons of the platforms you do use? what are some unique perks of that platform you won't see on other platforms and in what ways can I use those unique features to bolster my content creation or community engagement?
I have some basic plans already but I wanna get unique perspectives and ideas to add on to what I already have started.

2024.05.15 16:29 FrigidReaper I feel like I unlocked a new piece of equipment

Before I start does anyone know where I can buy just a space bar? I don’t like the yellow but the rest is nice.
So I have used “Mechanical” keyboards for a while now and I thought that was it. I used the big name brands like Razer and Logitech because I didn’t trust names I didn’t know. I just assumed that the bigger the name and the higher the price tag the better the quality would be. I’ve been using the MX Mechanical Mini pretty much since it released and I thought it was amazing. It has the clicky switches, which I have come to realize that I hate.
This would have gone unnoticed but we recently got a projector for our bedroom so me and my wife have been spending a lot more time in there and I like to game. I was typing in chat one night and my wife woke up as if there were explosions in the house. This happened multiple times and I figured getting a quieter keyboard would be a good idea….
Enter the custom Mechanical keyboard community. I hate regular sized keyboards and keycaps since I have to take this with me to work and use it at home. I also travel with it and would prefer not to have anything too large. I got the nuphy air75 v2. This thing feels NICE! Specifically with the red switches, though after testing the moss switches from the box I may order those. This thing feels powdery soft to type on. Coming from the MX Mechanical line I didn’t think it would be so vastly different, especially when you consider I paid maybe $40 more for that than the air75.
If the nuphy feels this good to type on I can only imagine what the lofted flow feels like. But the customization options of this keyboard kind of made it a no brainer. I will say that the videos with sound tests don’t really do it justice. It just sounds so nice in person. This being my first and only experience with a mechanical keyboard outside of the “Gaming or office brands I could just be scratching the surface.
I love the idea that I can change out the switched, and mod it to change the sound. It all looks really cool. I will say, however, that taking that first switch out and putting one back in was the most nerve wracking thing I have experienced since I started building with the AMD CPUs. (The pins)
All that is to say, holy crap I freaking love this thing. Why have I not thought about customizing my keyboards sooner?
I also needed an excuse to type on it so here I am.

2024.05.15 16:28 Andromeda_Kane The art of the debate: Adora and my own ick

everything following is my opinion based upon my own perceptions. The following should not be taken as ultimate truth, and i cannot know the content of someone's head nor heart
So, I've overall evaluated the advocacy of Adora, and i have found her lacking. She refuses to include anyone that isn't a white trans woman in her conversations. She doesn't uplift voices that won't benefit her directly. Her "advocacy" is done solely through the medium of debate.
So how is she at debates? Well, in a word, bad. Let me explain why.
Her arguments: Adora is bad bad when it comes to creating arguments. Debating, as a skill, requires more than just building an argument that stands on its own. If you created the perfect arguments that were undefeatable, only half the work would be done. The real skill comes in when you go conversation to conversation actually being able to respond to your opposition. Listening to the points that are made and being able to show them why the ground they stand on is weaker than yours. Not just stating your position, but being able to show why your position is superior.
Adora is incapable of doing so. Her conversations are the same every single time because she's using copy-pasted arguments she got from other people, merely inserting them like every conversation is simply by the numbers. And that is with rando's. It should be extremely simple for adora to prove her womanhood to most people she talks to, because the bulk of her talks are said rando's.
for clarity, the random individuals who come into lives are usually quite simple because they are typically unprepared for a debate. They don't have supports. They don't have sources pre-saved. They don't have a masterdoc. They don't have have a pre-prepared argument. Hence why rando's should typically be a slam dunk
But adora can't even defeat the random opps that come through because she is not a thinker. She doesn't spend her time considering her own arguments, improving her stances, or learning more. She doesn't know what she's doing when it comes to what debaters ought to do when she's not live. Instead she outsources it to her panelists, and leeches off their arguments.
The leech: Adora, for a long time, refused to develop her own points. She stole them. Stole them from mostly from Parker and myself, but also picked up arguments here and there from her panelists.
to be clear knowledge is absolutely a collaborative effort. It is completely normal for arguments from others to be lifted and reused. The issue comes into place when adora refuses or simply can't do the work herself.*
When i first realized she was lifting my arguments, truth be told, i was flattered. I said something so smart, other people started repeating it. Not just adora! But overtime, other people moved on to their own talking points, and adora continued to use my arguments for months until very recently.
It was when i noticed how much of my arguments and even pieces of my personality she started taking, i admittedly got the ick and haven't really wanted to be close to her since.
"I am a female": Adora argues that she's a female, because she is generally defeated by the "adult human female" argument. For a long time she's tried fo use my "sociology female" argument, which is robust, and not only demonstrates the point without declaring myself to be a female, and merely talks about social categories. The issue comes in that she doesn't understand the argument i made, just that it's effective. It requires an understanding of not just the social categories, but also a grasp of pragmatism.
Since she stopped using said arguments, she's instead resorted to calling herself female full stop, using Phenotypically female as her arguments, referring to her vagina, breasts, and skin.
Not only is this argument purely rooted in transmedicalism, (and would leave trans people of other experiences behind, uplifting only herself and her womanhood), but also is directly contradictory to herself.
Any time any of her opps uses her more masculine features to exclude her from being a woman, she stands firm on one point. "There is no right way to look like a woman."
But apparently her phenotypes are the right way to look? I digress.
Christie: So, as i described earlier, the 'bread and butter' (if you will) of a debate live are the random people that come in. But just like there are 'career' debaters focused on the support and advocacy of trans people, there are, in turn, 'career' debaters specially aligned against trans people. And just like there are solid stances for supporting trans people, there are solid points against. And it is a testament to a debater's skills to be able to defeat career opposition, as they're just as prepared as you are for a debate.
So, given the aforementioned lack of debate skills, it is my genuine and firm belief that she is scared of Christie. She flees from Christie, avoids her debates, avoids her even when Christie isn't even on the panel but merely GIFTS someone.
This doesn't just stop at Christie. It extends to rawreal, NATe, every single career debater. Menareforged was blocked for handing her ass to her in a debate, and feigned some nonsense reason why.
She cannot stand any challenge to her genuine existence and experiences. But she decides to debate her existence. So she's going to perpetually run away from any single individual that threatens her beliefs, and when she's WRONG she will run from those that prove her so, rather than amending the stances.
Andromeda: Forgive me, for i love to talk about myself, and i only feel it's so apt that i bring up the adora and andy debate.
It was my idea, suggested towards Maria initially, and adora liked the idea and volunteered herself. I had no idea at that time that she was so woefully unprepared, and thought adora would be one of my bigger challenges. I knew i would win, but i expected it to take 30 mins-an hour. Not 5 minutes.
I was crushed, if I'm honest, for a few reasons. Firstly, for a selfish reason. I was so excited to be challenged in my thoughts and i was extremely let down. I crave and thoroughly enjoy debates. I see them as mental puzzles. There's a right piece for the conversation, i just need to find it.
It was when i kept having to throw her a bone to chew on that that i became woefully aware of what i was looking at. Someone who doesn't know anything. Someone who is ignorant to why trans women are women, someone who only holds the belief that we are, with absolutely no way to support that position.
I was shocked. Ashamed. I supported someone so fucking bad at debates, and when she was FORCED to debate, with no pay to kick, she was so thoroughly torn down that she avoided hosting the topic for a couple months unless i was on the panel. She suddenly started rambling on about "trans identities aren't up for debate".
Final thoughts. I will be honest, i feel I've left a legacy of shame when i left the app. I feel I've done a disservice to the trans community, and debatetok. I do feel responsible for what i left behind and seeing and listening to adora now has me feeling a sense of guilt for not seeing the problem earlier and intervening when i could.
On that woeful note, i will always stand up for trans people, and if it means helping adora, i will. But if need be i will continue to stand up to her. Even if i can't help bring about change with adora, i feel I must draw my own line in the sand.

Like the title says, I think he should be unbanned, I know segisaurus was and is now a bad idea and addition, and I've disagreed with him on it a lot, but is wanting 1 feature that's special to you a reason to be banned?
The community always says to let people have fun, and turn the blind eye when personal bias of the highest level(on a reddit sub at least lol) causes someone fun to be ruined.

2024.05.15 16:27 Pay-Next Fan Theory - The Self-Made God Emperor of Mankind

Preface: Hello everyone. Not sure if this is the proper community to be sharing WH40K fan theories on but it seemed like the right place, my apologies if it is not. I'm not super well versed in lore but owing to a lot of work related drudgery I have been bingeing 40k Lore videos as background entertainment and as I did I had a rather interesting theory come into mind. Did a bit of digging and I wasn't able to find anything so I figured I would try and share it with those who have a better grasp on The Lore than I do and see if it holds up or if there is anything directly contradictory that has ever been published. Decided to write it as close to an "in universe" style as I could as well for fun. Please feel free to share thoughts or anything else about the idea, I welcome any kind of education in the Lore that I could receive.
An excerpt from the charred remains of a heretic psyker's journal. Seized by the Imperial Inquisition
My first observation that something may be amiss oddly enough started not with the Imperium of Man at all but instead while observing the idiosyncrasies of the Orks. While their own psychic energy is minimal...the power of their "Da WAAGH!" is fascinating. What intrigued me most was observation of their seemingly having been capable of subconsciously using their collective energy to do some truly remarkable things. How their collective belief in a particular color of paint could lend the power of Da WAAGGH! to a vehicle and actively speed its passage. Or how that collective belief in the skill of pilot and his "controls" could allow them to manipulate something as unhinged as a Space Hulk using a crude painted on console. It struck a horrid heretical chord in my mind though.
With the exception of those referred to in whispers as "Blanks" every human too holds their own infinitesimally small connection to the Immaterium. What if we could somehow create such a system within the Imperium. What power could be harnessed through the collected subconscious psychic energy of the souls of the Imperium. And then...like a festering rot it struck me...what if it already had? It was thus I began my attempt to search out the truth of the highest of our Imperium, the origins of the God Emperor himself. And I found myself deeply frustrated. Little information could be corroborated. What I could find was often contradictory in nature and maddeningly inconsistent. Even the descriptions of the visage of the Emperor changed and altered depending on the source...and so my own heretical musings grew louder. I eventually came to a theory, one mainly birthed out of speculation but that I could do little to refute the potential of. What if our Emperor had in fact used us and used us still to make himself a god?
Perhaps, at some point in the distant eons of the past a man had been born much like myself. One gifted with a rare psychic talent but nothing compared to the magnificence that was that of the Godly control of the Immaterium that tales of the Emperor spin. And slowly, through deception, he began to convince people of his greatness using his gift. The more people who he convinced of his power, the more belief they had in his divinity and omnipotence, and as the collective psychic energy of humanity began to focus their entire belief on this singular individual, he was made into that which he had pretended to be? It would explain so many things. The slow but noticeable increase in the mythologized feats of the Emperor's prowess. The distorted accounts regarding his physical appearance. If those who had never once looked upon his actual visage were convinced he looked subtly different and they were sending imperceptible amounts of psychic energy to him in the BILLIONS of course it could alter how anyone would even perceive him.
The final thought leaves me hollow though. That, perhaps, what he is now is also our collective fault as well. That his expired frame still sits upon the throne, thrumming with psychic power, because we still pour out belief into him. Every time the inquisition comes to knock on my door and I must flee I still find myself silently offering up a prayer to the Emperor for protection...even as I doubt the origins of his divinity. I swear every time I do that I can feel the barest pull of a thread from my power, almost like an imperceptible tithe being taken in exchange for my prayer. And I shudder to think that perhaps prayers such as mine might keep him chained to that throne until our Imperium passes from memory.

2024.05.15 16:26 verdite Psych-heavy background, but there's just something missing and I don't know what it is

Hey all, applying to medical school. I'm on a full-ride scholarship that will support me through to becoming an attending as a result of a developmental disability. I studied Medical Bio/Neuroscience/Psychology as an undergrad and virtually all of my time outside of school is spent listening to psychology-related podcasts and lectures. I just really love the idea of contributing to mental health as a public figure. Currently, I serve on a federally mandated board for my state, writing health and education policies for 3M+ individuals with varying disabilities in my state. A majority of those have affective/cognitive problems as a primary disability.
Advocating for mental health has been an enormous part of my work as an undergraduate (even though I've been working toward these degrees for 8 years now due to financial constraints). As a result, I am even more drawn to working with marginalized communities and understand deeply how stigma and class can work against you even if you really are trying to "pull yourself up by your bootstraps." I look up to physicians like Karen Horney and Gabor Maté, who have been able to get their message out there in powerful ways, transcending the clinical milieu and garnering international attention from the general public.
But here's the rub. I feel like something is missing! I've worked in a dozen specialties over those 8 years, and I feel I really love psychiatry and what it represents; but at the same time, I think there's a lot of value in performing procedures or otherwise working with your hands. I worked in derm for 2 years and first assisted as a Mohs tech; one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Also really loved the ED for the variety. But even as I ooh and aah over a derm lifestyle, I feel like I'm betraying a field that I've invested so much of my energy to and that I can't imagine not doing.
Because I'm on scholarship, there is a lot of interest in terms of the program in me charting my path far ahead of time. I'm being asked what specialty I would like to approach, so that they can help me chart a path to get there. I want to say psychiatry, but there's just something missing and I can't put my finger on it.
Has anyone gone through this? How did you decide to do psych, and why did you turn down other more lucrative and tactile specialties?

2024.05.15 16:25 Chudea The vibrant PVPserver-community of 2017

When I played ARK on the official NA-PvP-36 in ~2017, there were moderately sized active stone bases of ~4 people every 500 yards, everyone knew their neighbors and was generally friendly with them. Some people built public buildings like a tavern, or us building an arena where we would let beachbobs fight wild Dilos, which attracted people from all tribes. I remember trading metal from the mountain-tribe for my silica pearls, randomly meeting strangers riding rexes and talking to them. While exploring the map, you would also find many ruins with the occasional squatters, leaving you to wonder who built this and when, but you could easily find out by asking the nearest tribe, because there was always someone to talk to. Of course, among the established tribes there was drama, stealing and the occasional wipe if really bad things happened, with everyone being sure to justify it as best as they could in global-chat, which was as much of a battleground as the map. But in general it was a healthy, active community like it is described in the explorer-notes. Most interactions were funny and memerable, which was the reason why I played
When I tried Ark again in 2022 and I was sad to see what became of the servers. There was simply nothing there. No bases, no people to talk to, no ruins. It was like being unfrozen 3000 years after the apocalypse. Just a single huge metal cube of turrets if anything. The usual online population of ~20 went down to 2. And if you met any of them, it was you being killed instantly by a ridiculous lv 500 pokemon that would swoop down on you out of nothing, as if you stepped into the aggro radius of an NPC that wasn't even sentient
What happened? What game design ideas led to this stupidity? And can it ever be like it once was, especially on the new ASA?

2024.05.15 16:20 Honest-File9357 Why I'm vehemently FTP

Tl;dr Version for anyone who doesn't want to read a bit of a rant: This game is way too damn greedy.
Some Various disclaimers and background information before the rant:
  1. No, this is post is not to shame people who aren't FTP. Do what you want with your money, I just want to explain why I don't think I'll ever support this game financially and see how the rest of the community feels. This is also not some propaganda to get you to either not spend money or stop spending money, or in other words by all means keep supporting Shift-Up and their products, do you boo.
  2. I'm not the biggest gacha game player, I've only played two prior to this (Girls Frontline and some Star Wars one), both that I did end up throwing a little money at to support them despite Nikke ultimately being more fun imo (just to show no, I'm not against in game purchases for free games out of principle)
  3. I do enjoy this game and don't imagine I'll stop playing any time soon, as far as phone games go this is probably the most fun I've had (not the highest bar to set, I know).
  4. I understand that ultimately the goal of any game is to generate income, and I don't hold it against any game. Rather I have a problem with how this game "encourages" you to spend money.
  5. I started playing this game during the RE:Zero collab and quickly came to this conclusion, don't know what ultimately compelled me to rant about it (maybe just one too many all blue pulls)
Okay with that out the way let's get to the meat of the issue, which can honestly be summarized to 2 main sins so hell get ready for another list I guess : ^ )
1.The top heavy nature of the roster. "When everybody's special, no one will be"- Angry animated ginger dude (rip in peace). When I first started playing this game and doing some pulls I felt like a superstar, I mean wow I'm pulling all these super rares like it's nothing, even got all my counter girls maxed out and after about ~60 pulls I've managed 2 super super rares! Then I started to notice how all these "super rares" seem to have all hit max limit break and peeked at the Nikkepedia to realize the sad truth of this game. Given my past experiences with gacha I expected maybe something like 30% of the roster to be "SSR", not 95%. What's even more baffling is that the SSR actually does have it's own subcategory of "hey, these are actually the super rare ones" with Pilgrims having a miniscule chance to pull. I didn't want to put a list inside my list ( yo dawg, heard you like lists) but there's a few reasons why I really dislike this, and it was getting more and more "massive block of text" while I typed it so sorry.
-The first and probably most readily apparent issue being that it means you're unlocking new characters at a snails pace. It feels like the intended way to unlock new characters is to throw thousands of gems/ recruit rosters at the slot machine so you can do the high quality mold to actually have a chance (more on this later) to get a new character. I realize luck is a subjective matter, and yeah I've seen posts from people bragging about pulling 4-5 SSR in a pull, but objectively speaking the other gacha games were far more generous with the unlocking of new characters.
-Secondly, and probably what I hate the most, is that these "SSR" are simply not created equally (putting aside the obvious and aforementioned "actual SSR" of the pilgrims). I'm not saying every Nikke has to be an absolute powerhouse (more on this later) but if you want to make Nikkes that are just inferior versions of other Nikkes or have kits that just straight up aren't good, I dunno chief...maybe put them in a lower tier of the roster? Hell putting aside the meta/ actually caring about the kits of your waifus let's just talk about the lore/ backstory of these characters. Matis (my favorite squad, big hearts and kisses especially for Drake), the super star hero squad and best the Missilis company has to offer? Okay sure, makes sense they're SRR. Prima Donna Nikkes that...work in the music industry for some reason? Uh okay not sure why these military bots are making music but they're famous ig so why not, SSR it is. Oh hey Absolute, Rapi's former squad and supposed elite of Elysion now that's a contender for SSR for sure. Maid for you, Nikkes that run a maid cafe...well let's make em SSR. Okay okay I shouldn't hawk on the waifu game having waifus that are character archetypes even if it makes absolutely no sense in the setting of the game but you still get the point right? You have characters that are presented to you as the cream of the crop (in other words have lore friendly reasons to be classified as SSR) thrown into the same category of rarity of characters that work in maid cafes or other random civilian jobs/ hobbies. This all putting aside the actual strength of these character's kits (Matis is pretty good at least, big hearts and kisses) I'm simply referring to the story reasons for characters to be presented as "SSR".
-Thirdly this all just reeks of some system you see in a lot of games where they use certain words to artificially make you feel more accomplished, if that makes any sense. The lowest tier (of absolute garbage) is referred to as "rare", the slightly better but ultimately still useless (<3 u Rapi/ Anne) tier is "super rare", and the bulk of the roster is "super super rare." Fellas, that's not how the word "rare" works at all. I feel like most games at least refer to their filler trash as "common" or the like so why does the game call the, in lore, mass produced no personality foot soldier Nikkes "rare"? This leads back to "SSR" having it's own category of rarity, did they realize "SSSR" would look and sound stupid so that's why Pilgrims don't have their own category? I dunno, could have called it "ultra super dooper cream your pants because you're a real winner rare" or they could have just (alongside making some of the "unworthies" a lower tier) gone with 4 tiers with a more honest and conventional naming system (common- uncommon-rare-epic) but they didn't because that doesn't trigger the dopamine in slack jawed gamer so they like you more and spend more money or whatever reason so many games use terminology that feels like patting you on the back. Almost lost my cool there, sounding a lil schizo huh? Let's move on to the other main point to save face.
  1. The way progression is handled (and how that ties to the roster) "When you come to it and you can't go through it and you can't knock it down, you know that you've found the wall, the wall, the wall." -Mark Henry (still kicking, I think). Gacha games, or really most games, have parts that are for the cream of the crop. The real go getters (or go spenders) who invest a lot of time (or money) into the game and are rewarded for it. Usually these are things like raids or other limited time events, typically speaking though it's not the main story of the game that's the major hurdle for the playerbase to surmount. Typically speaking there's a slow and steady incline of requirements for players to progress through the story of a game, be it skill (let's be honest, not really a factor for gacha games) or equipment/loot, but not here. Instead you have rapidly increasing arbitrary "recommended power levels" (yes, we'll talk about this later) coupled with a massive middle finger in the form of level limit/ limit breaking in a nice package of pain and inconvenience, because I hate you for enjoying and caring about the story we wrote (which the game will proceed to spoil in events, which have a way lower bar of entry) or something idk. Jamie, pull up that list again.
-So pulling a SRR is "accomplishment" enough, pulling the same SRR 3 more times is whack crazy luck, doing that whole process 5 times is insultingly absurd (b-buh muh Kilo tho, because rip anybody who wasn't here for this event). Technically speaking there are systems in place to make this easier, but both of them are still hella rough. You can either use the wishlist feature (on the normal recruitment, and not for pilgrims) to cut out the massive bloat of SRR you don't care about and still pray on that 4% chance or you can grind out 200 total recruits to get mileage tickets to knock out one of 20 pulls you'll need in order to get pass this wall. You've already seen posts either lamenting their luck or singing praises to lord because after months people have managed this, and imo that is not a good system of progression for the main story of your game. I don't have a problem with there being content that encourages you to spend money, for heavens sake they have a "hard campaign" (which is just the same lay out of campaign maps with massively spiked up requirements with the same exact rewards as the normal story, minus the actual story part) so why not just let people enjoy the normal campaign. It comes off as a really cheap and scummy way to encourage people to spend money, holding the story of your game hostage. Just lower the requirements of the normal campaign, I'm sure older players don't have the "naw these new players need to suffer like I suffered" mentality, nobody is going to be mad at you.
-Oh yeah, recommended power levels. A lot of games have the system of "increase your number to keep up with the enemies increasing number" but none of those feels like a slap in the face as this game's system of "you'll either meet this required number or we'll just nerf your damage to the ground" (evidently the exact percentage of this used to be a lot worse before they patched it, further proof that the playerbase isn't against the game being made more accessible). This is probably the part where the Nikke superfan tells me I just have a massive skill issue and it's totally possible to clear these missions at a deficit, and this is absolutely true. I've seem some superstars talking about clearing levels while under 20k or more the recommended amount (I've only managed 10k, all thanks to Crown whom I love and cherish) and you know what the secret to success is? I just hinted at it in those parenthesis but it comes down to pulling "the right" SSR Nikkes. Okay that's a little disingenuous , as there's a little bit of skill/ understanding of the games system involved and grinding out the various resources you need to level said actually good SSR Nikkes, but it doesn't change the fact that there are Nikkes you actually want if you care about progressing through the game and there's all the ones you don't that seemingly only exist to reduce your chances of pulling these Nikkes. Let's backtrack to that "wishlist" system for a bit, which is what is intended to make sure you get the (non pilgrim) Nikkes you want like Liter or Tia. You'll recall that the wishlist doesn't increase your total chance to pull a SRR (makes sense) but just ensures that you only pull the designated SSR, but the problem is this only applies to this normal pulling. It is still my opinion that most of the SSR you're gonna get are going to come from the various molds, which cleverly has no such system of wishliting (because let's be honest, this would probably destroy any incentive to pay money for people who don't care about costumes). So you're either dealing with a system of most likely not getting any SSR from normal pulling or having a slim chance of pulling the SSR you need (assuming you even pull a SSR to begin with) with the mold, neither of which sound too appealing to me
-Speaking of molds, and this probably going to be my most controversial take (or at the least the most demanding), it is blatantly unfair that high quality and company molds aren't a guaranteed SSR. In the case of of the high quality mold the process of getting one is slow enough (I maybe manage 1 a week, outside of events or CD redemption that may give more) and there are enough SSR (putting aside the fact that you want to pull the same SSR multiple times anyway) that I really don't think it would be that bad if you just don't let us get kicked in the gut by pulling Neon after all that effort. In the case of the company specific molds from the tribe towers you are quite literally hard limited to pulling 3-7 a day (assuming of course you have a squad capable of tackling the tower), and you're going to make them have an even lower total chance of a SSR than the normal high quality mold. I'm only half way to my pilgrim mold (I had to wait till crown before I even felt like starting the tower, because even doing the easiest levels is mind numbing with just one Nikke) but I've heard horror stories of going 5 pilgrim molds with no pilgrim in sight, and ngl I may just weep when it's my turn to experience that. If you want to further reduce the acquisition of molds to still encourage some spending that's fine by me, but please let us have some safety net in this ruthless Nikke grind.
That's pretty much it for the rant so I just want to finish with some closing thoughts. I really do like this game, honest, and I wouldn't mind supporting it if it just didn't make me feel so used and abused. There are plenty of games with microtransactions or additional content where it feels like you're buying them because you want to support the dev, not because it feels like they're holding a gun to your head, and I just want this game to feel more like the former. I'm happy to discuss this rant further if anybody has their own ideas and opinions (or even if people just want to defend the game) so let me know what yall think, assuming you even read that blob of text up there.

2024.05.15 16:14 Calix19 Weapons will struggle to feel balanced as long as armored enemies exist in their current state

Hopefully this is received as constructive criticism and discussion instead of an attempt at hate farming. Also, I'm optimistic the dev team can figure out the balance issue.
Right now, a weapon's effectiveness is determined almost entirely by one question: Can it kill armored enemies? More specifically, chargers and bile titans. Players aren't locked into using meta weapons, but are instead forced use "oeta" weapons (ONLY effective tactic available.)
The game has so many fun looking weapons and stratagems available, but I never get the chance to use most of them because I'm always forced to take Anti Armor options. In a game like Deep Rock Galactic, you can experiment and make goofy meme builds that are still able clear missions. Helldivers doesn't have that right now because armored enemies are so oppressive and impossible to handle with most weapons.
Can this support weapon kill armored enemies -- especially chargers and bile titans? (Quasar, EAT, Autocannon and Laser vs bots)
If not, is it at least elite at eliminating high threat trash enemies like spewers? (Grenade launcher)
For primary weapons, highest value is determined by how effectively it helps do some of the heavy lifting against armor that your support weapon is hopefully doing (Scorcher, Dominator, pre nerf Eruptor).
After that, it goes back to the same trash clear secondary question as support weapons (high capacity automatic weapons, most breaker variants, pre nerf crossbow).
If a weapon can't do either of those things, it's pretty much useless (Diligence).
Most of the same applies to stratagems, but there are some exceptions scattered around due to some having utility. But then again, I think I would argue that the value of that utility is based on how much it offsets the frustration of fighting armored enemies.
While clearing out trash enemies is still somewhat helpful, higher difficulties absolutely require pretty much your entire team take anti armor weapons, and this just severely limits creativity and experimentation. Maaaaybe you can get away with a single person not having Anti Armor. I believe this is why the Eruptor nerf was so immensely hated. It was one of the weapons that enabled players to finally take different support weapons like a Stalwart. Finally there was some variety.
I'm sure there are some exceptions that can be found to what I've written, but I wanted to get the general idea out there since weapon balance seems to be a big topic in the community over the last week or so. Armored enemies were a huge problem when the game first launched. Reducing the health of Charger heads was a good band-aid fix for the early life of the game, but I don't think that fixes the big picture problem inherent with the game's armor system, the number of armored enemies, and the arsenal's limited effectiveness against them.

2024.05.15 16:13 CodexPrime The concept of "Main Camping"

The concept of
The idea of main camping is greatly exaggerated by the community and misunderstood. We were +500m away from the enemy main in this particular game and were mining the critical roads that the logis would probably use, in order to hamper the enemy supply lines. The admins gave us a warning and told us it was main camping, threatening to kick us. I even asked the admin if we could mine the J13 grid and he said no again.
You can easily avoid hitting any possible mines on the road by not using to roads and just going off-road. This concept of so called main-camping rule is getting out of hand. Yes, of course you can't just park your armor outside their main and shoot any vehicles entering or exiting but mining the roads leading out of the enemy main shouldn't be considered main camping. Denying the enemy of critical supplies and hampering their logistical efforts is a strategic tactic and can contribute to the effort of winning the match.
What do you guys think?

2024.05.15 16:12 AlsoKnownAsRukh Axios/CBS: Denver police will no longer stop drivers for low-level traffic violations

The Denver Police Department is limiting its officers from making certain low-level traffic stops to free them up to focus on more serious crimes.
Why it matters: The policy shift is intended to improve efficiency for an agency short 167 officers and seeing longer response times. It's also an attempt to reduce incidents of racial profiling by police, which critics say too often lead to violence.

Denver's policy was approved on May 1 and it comes after the city council suggested the idea to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas a year ago. It is based on a study by the Vera Institute of Justice that suggests law enforcement departments whose officers are stopping fewer drivers in other cities are seeing an increase in public safety.
TL:DR - They're saying that you can still get pulled over for moving violations like speeding and running red lights, but not headlight / taillight problems, expired tags, etc. Supposedly they're making the change to better make use of limited officers' time, help increase officer safety, decrease racial inequity, and increase community trust.

2024.05.15 16:12 Far-Mode6546 Curious case of Alice Guo: The Chinese Woman who became a Mayor the Philipines.

Curious case of Alice Guo: The Chinese Woman who became a Mayor the Philipines.
This is a more in depth analysis of this issue in the Philippines.
It all started when an investigative body in the Philippines raided a compound in Bamban Tarlac. Upon discovery they found 167 illegal Chinese immigrants who are operating various scams ranging from Pig butchering scam, loves scams and cryto scams. The police investigated and found that owner of the compound and the scams were the Mayor of Bamban named Alice Guo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yn5SvU9rDdo
Here are some interesting facts about her:
  • She registered her birth certificate at 17.
  • She has no medical records of being born at a hospital because she was born at home.
  • She can't remember where that home is.
  • No one knows her in Bamban.
  • She can't remember her siblings name, even though they lived in the same compound.
  • She can't remember her mother.
  • She doesn't have a school record because she was home schooled and can only recall one teacher named Rubilyn.
  • She doesn't know who her renters in her compound.
  • She can't remember how much she earns from her compound.,
  • She doesn't remember the color of her helicopter.
  • She has a helicopter and McLaren even though her only business is hog raising.
She kept saying I don't know and I don't remember that people have dubbed her "My Amnesia Girl" base on a popular Korean movie that was later adopted into a Filipino movie.
https://preview.redd.it/vdabx3t8kl0d1.png?width=451&format=png&auto=webp&s=e30fbe26485a77148d6846d29ed056a78ab31a51
Others have simped for her and called her Shancai, a character on the popular Taiwanese drama called Meteor Garden.
https://preview.redd.it/n2xi74eckl0d1.png?width=593&format=png&auto=webp&s=5a33d5f34937a7f4a1ee9beb27724e592aa82ce7
The Taiwanese actress who played Shancai was also screwed by the CCP because her rich Chinese Businessman of Husband divorced her because he is patriotic in lieu of the Taiwan-China tensions that was brewing during the pandemic, dubbed by the Chinese media as patriotic divorce.

Now people might be wondering why this is happening? How a Chinese National suddenly became a citizen, worst a MAYOR?
Many Filipinos are as shocked as you are. But as someone who is Filipino and Chinese and grew up here. This is not a big surprise and Chinese community have figured out ways to circumvent the barriers to entry from becoming a Filipino citizen and that is MONEY!
In fact this controversial former controversial figure from the Philippines and known world wide had this type of side business back then in the 80s you a pay a certain amount and people will become a Filipino citizen instantaneously. Back then this was not a big issue because alot of Chinese nationals just want to escape communism and Filipino community at large is sympathetic to that idea. But it has been loophole that the CCP has exploited and now we are inundated by illegal Chinese whom might be CCP affiliated and are now off the rader and might do harm into the country.
I have a friend who works for the government, he says they see MANY Chinese who could barely speaking Filipino carrying Filipino passports and birth certificates just like Guo. Some have disappeared entire, this has cause panic and alarm into security, defense and foreign affairs.
Here is a more in depth analysis on the Senate investigation/ hearing on Alice Guo.
I split it into two parts because reddit seems to limit videos uploads into 15 mins.

2024.05.15 16:07 Many_Confusion9341 [Risk analysis] Going to UU Church Sunday Service

Hi there,
I’d love to get some community input on how yall would analyze this risk and if you would decide to go (why/why not).
Context: 1. I have long covid 2. I live alone 3. I see no one (really, no one) without a mask on 4. I see two friends and they both wear kn95/n95s everywhere (and we mask around each other) 5. I am mostly housebound but usually go once a week to an art class - 8 people total, large room, no one else masks (I have gotten sick from another person there despite me masking - since then I’ve started using mask tape, betadine, and CPC mouth wash) 6. I work from home
I’m considering joining a Unitarian Universalist church and going to their Sunday Service.
I emailed them for details: 1. They don’t have any air filters or purifiers 2. They don’t usually have windows open 3. The room has an approved capacity of 200 people 4. They said about 50-60 people usually come 5. They said 2-3 people regularly mask and there is a culture where people mask if they feel ill
I would wear an n95/kn95 with mask tape fully all the way down and not take it off at all. I use a walker that has a water bottle slot that I could put a mini air purifier in but I don’t think that would do anything.
If I go a couple times and end up liking it I would ask them if they are open to me buying an air purifier for them (in which case, I would love recommendations for a room that size and capacity!) and I’m interested if anyone else have other risk reduction ideas :)
I totally expect some ppl to be a hard no and some an easy yes. I’m mostly interested in the why factor :)

2024.05.15 16:06 PossibleLocation3626 I’m slowly turning my 2K MyLeague into a league of spring football teams

I’m slowly turning my 2K MyLeague into a league of spring football teams
I’m currently in the 2066-67 season of my 2K MyLeague and I have five teams that are named after spring football teams.
Tampa Bay Bandits
(Los Angeles Clippers until 2028, Tampa Bay Nationals 2028-2051, Tampa Bay Bandits 2051-Present)
Portland Breakers
(Charlotte Hornets until 2059, Portland Hornets 2059-2061, Portland Breakers 2061-Present)
Las Vegas Vipers
(Utah Jazz until 2025, Las Vegas Vipers 2025-present)
Salt Lake Stallions
(Phoenix Suns until 2058, Arizona Suns 2058-2064, Salt Lake Stallions 2064-present)
Pittsburgh Maulers
(Pittsburgh Force 2026-2049, Virginia Cosmos 2049-2057, Pittsburgh Maulers 2057-present)
For most of them I uploaded their team logos as custom logos, for some reason I couldn’t get the Vegas Vipers XFL logo to load correctly so I had to use a logo that someone uploaded to the community as the Vegas Venom and change it to Vipers.
The Bandits have not been very successful since moving to Tampa Bay from Los Angeles in 2028, so sometime in the next few seasons I plan to copy what the USFL did in 2023 and relocate them to Memphis to rebrand them as the Showboats.
I also want to get a team back in Oklahoma City somehow (maybe by relocating the Spurs?) and I could potentially use the Oklahoma Outlaws from the old USFL (although I think they played in Tulsa).
Here are other teams that I have relocated or renamed that are not spring football teams:
Memphis Grizzlies until 2028, Nashville Grizzlies 2028-2038, St Louis Spirits 2038-present
Sacramento Kings until 2045, Kansas City Kings 2045-present
Oklahoma City Thunder until 2023, Seattle SuperSonics 2023-present
Portland Trail Blazers until 2052, Vancouver Grizzlies 2052-present
Here are the other five expansion teams I’ve added besides the Maulers:
Hawaii Honu 2026-present
Jacksonville Cyclones 2033-present
Kentucky Colonels 2039-present
Nashville Tempo 2048-present
San Diego Surf 2049-present
If you have any suggestions on how to get more spring football teams in my league I’m open. Other than moving the Spurs to Oklahoma City, the other idea I potentially had was moving Hawaii to either Oakland or San Jose. Maybe I could bring back the Oakland Invaders?
The one thing I don’t want to do is change teams to spring football teams just because. Like I don’t want to rebrand the Sixers as the Stars or the Spurs as the Brahmas just for the sake of it. I may start a new league after this that’s all spring football teams but right now I want to keep it realistic. Thanks for reading!

2024.05.15 16:04 Focus62 Learning resources for raster data management, particularly for web GIS?

Thus far, the majority of my career has been managing and serving vector data over the web, but now I need to get a handle on how to store and serve a massive amount of rasters efficiently with open source solutions (PostGIS, Geoserver, and Leaflet or OpenLayers). The rasters will be derived from many (10s of TBs at the moment) of NetCDF timeseries climate data. I know how to use Python to get my NetCDF data into raster layers, but I don't know how to really optimize them for storage and serving over the web, especially if there's hundreds of thousands of them. Before diving into the nitty gritty of it all, I really just need to get a basic understanding of image mosaics, tile caching, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for somewhat detailed resources (articles, books, tutorials, udemy courses, videos, anything) on working with raster data? Even beginner level "what is an image mosaic" is fine, as long as it advances into covering more granular topics like choosing the right compression.
Other ideas are welcome, too, if you've figured out how to serve NetCDF data (stored on a file system) with Geoserver. I know there is a plugin for Geoserver to handle NetCDF data, but I haven't read anything about it just yet.
To be clear, I'm not asking anyone to explain these concepts to me, I just am looking for resources the greater GIS community might suggest to someone learning.

2024.05.15 16:00 AutoModerator [D] Wednesday Worldbuilding and Writing Thread

Welcome to the Wednesday thread for worldbuilding and writing discussions!
/rational is focussed on rational and rationalist fiction, so we don't usually allow discussion of scenarios or worldbuilding unless there's finished chapters involved (see the sidebar). It *is* pretty fun to cut loose with a likeminded community though, so this is our regular chance to:
* Plan out a new story
* Discuss how to escape a supervillian lair... or build a perfect prison
* Poke holes in a popular setting (without writing fanfic)
* Test your idea of how to rational-ify *Alice in Wonderland*
* Generally work through the problems of a fictional world.
On the other hand, this is *also* the place to talk about writing, whether you're working on plotting, characters, or just kicking around an idea that feels like it might be a story. Hopefully these two purposes (writing and worldbuilding) will overlap each other to some extent.
^(Non-fiction should probably go in the Friday Off-topic thread, or Monday Recommendation thead)

2024.05.15 15:55 thegoat_v4 What’s next MFG & When (Roughly)?

Great job MFG, games great, sure things need fixing, tweaking etc but the bones are solid. I know the community team read this forum which is great as communication is key. I’m not expecting a response but let’s see what people think?
I’d like to know what’s next and when? I know in the recent briefing Day / Night was mentioned amongst other things and that major 6 monthly updates were mentioned previously but are we waiting 6 months for a new gun? Some idea would be useful I believe in keeping players interested as it certainly feels like the fickle world of gaming these days is already trying to jump to the next thing. I for one would be happy with some new weapons dropped in between big updates to keep things interesting, modding weapons is a key draw for many players and amongst the big exciting things you have planned I hope there is regular content.
Keep up the good work.
