It's utterly baffling, downright infuriating even, to witness the absolute neglect from the dire economic realities plaguing India. We're hurtling towards an economic precipice, with savings plummeting to a 47-year low and household debt skyrocketing to record highs, yet all we hear from the ruling party is a cacophony of communal rhetoric and fear-mongering.
India's middle class, the backbone of its economy, is being squeezed dry, struggling to make ends meet amidst soaring inflation and dwindling job prospects. Household net financial savings have sharply fallen to a mere 5.3 per cent of GDP, a stark contrast to the long-run average of 7-7.5 per cent. Meanwhile, household debt levels have reached an alarming 40 per cent of GDP, burdening families with financial strain.
Food inflation has become a persistent nightmare, with essential items like tomatoes, potatoes, milk, chicken, eggs, and fish witnessing an alarming 8 per cent plus increase in prices. This relentless rise in the cost-of-living forces families to skimp on other essential expenditures, further exacerbating their financial woes.
Moreover, the job market is a bleak landscape for India's youth, Unemployment looms large, especially among young Indians aged 15 to 29, who account for a staggering 83 per cent of all unemployed individuals in the country. And even for those fortunate enough to secure employment, it often comes in the form of low-quality jobs in the informal sector, with stagnant or declining wages.
Add to this the dismal state of education, where 25 per cent of young students aged 14 to 18 in rural India struggle to read a standard two-level text fluently, and more than half grapple with basic division problems. Despite these glaring deficiencies, the government's budgetary allocation for education for the fiscal year 2024-25 was slashed by 7 per cent, with the higher education sector bearing the brunt of a 16 per cent cut in spending.
And yet, despite these undeniable facts painting a grim picture of the middle-class plight, the politicians continue to deflect attention from the issues at hand.

It's actually hard to classify Vamsy as a director, while his movies have a very aesthetic feel, he combines it with a fast paced style of narration, rapid fire dialog and a very unconventional style of movie making. That is the reason why his style of movie making was not universally liked, much before Ram Gopal Varma or Sandeep Vanga, he was the true cult director. Or one should say an auteur.
His movies had his own distinctive style. good or bad, that was his trademark. And he covered different genres, from artistic( Sitara) to murder mysteries( Anveshana) to comedies( Ladies Tailor, April 1 Vidudala) to family dramas( Preminchu Pelladu). 4
His real name was Nallamilli Bavireddy and Vamsy was his pen name, that he choose for the screen too. His first movie Manchu Pallaki(1982) itself gave an indication of his talent.

A story of 5 friends played by Chiru( in his early days), Rajendra Prasad, Saichand, Narayana Rao, Saichand and Girish( of Saptapadi) fame, whose life changes after they come in contact with Suhasini. It was a remake of the 1981 Tamizh movie Palaivana Solai, and though not a very big success, the movie gained lot of appreciation from the family audiences for it's very sensitive storytelling. It came as a breath of fresh air in Telugu cinema, that was getting saturated with routine movies.

It was Sitara in 1984 that made everyone take notice of Vamsy, based on his own novel Mahal lo Kokila. The movie also marked Bhanu Priya's debut, as Sitara, a women on the move, who is helped by a kind hearted photographer Devadas( Subhalekha Sudhakar), and helps her to become a movie star later. However when she refuses to go to a particular village for a shooting, Devadas demands an explanation, and she recounts her rather painful past.
The movie straddles two different worlds that of the Zamindaris, and their false prestige, that makes them show off as wealthy, when in reality most of them are actually paupers, and that of the movie stars, and paparazzi. There is a lot to write about this movie, but couple of things, it has the very distinctive style of K.Viswanath in many scenes, under whom Vamsy worked as an assistant director.
And it began Vamsy's collaboration with Illayaraja, who would go on to compose some memorable songs for his movies later. As also the Godavari backdrop, being a native of that place, not many movie directors captured the region as well as Vamsy did, be it the natural beauty or the dialect or the traditions.
It also marked a very visual style of storytelling that would be a feature of most Vamsy movies going ahead. Also the beautiful sunrise and sunset shots, along the Godavari river, contrasting it with the rather claustrophobic atmosphere of the Zamindar Chander( Sarathbabu) mahal. Sitara went on to become one of the biggest hits of that year, as Bhanupriya became a star.

It was with Anveshana that Vamsy came into his own, developing his very distinctive style of movie making. I had already written about it here in detail, but would like to point out that much before RGV in Shiva, Vamsy used the tracking shots to very good effect here, especially in the forest scenes.

Preminchu Pelladu Rajendra Prasad's first movie as a leading hero, dealt with the clash between old and new. Satyanarayana plays Kurmavataram, a conservative, orthodox Brahmin, who is taught a lesson in humanist values by his grandson Rajendra Prasad, and his estranged grand daughter Bhanupriya. Quite a good movie, had a memorable soundtrack by Illayaraja with songs like "Vayyari Godaramma", "Gopemmma Chethilo", "Nirantharam Vasanthamu", "Nee Chaitra Veena" remaining memorable today.
His next movie Aalapana was not that great with a very disjointed narration, and trying to be a cross between an artistic movie and a thriller, fell in between. However Illayaraja's score was usual great in this movie.

It was Ladies Tailor, that would turn out to be a true cult movie. The story of a tailor Sundaram( Rajendra Prasad) who wants to get rich quick, and follows the advice of an astrologer who predicts that a lady with a mole on her thigh would be fortunate for him. While set in the Godavari region, the narration was totally different, with more risque double meaning dialog, the typical Godavari Yaasa spoken among the working class. And characters like Battala Satyam( Mallikarjuna Rao), Sitaramudu( Subhalekha Sudhakar), the hero's sidekicks, the school teacher Sujatha( Archana), the 3 women Nagamani( Y Vijaya), Neelaveni( Sandhya), Daiya( Deepa) whom the hero chases around, the village head Venkataratnam( Pradeep Sakthi) who hates lovers after a guy duped his sister.
The movie was a true cult flick, that polarized audiences, the college students, youth loved it, while the family audiences hated it. But over the years it has become a cult classic of sorts, and once again a memorable score from Illayaraja with a series of superhit songs "Gopilola", "Porabatidi", "Ekkada Ekkada", "Hayamma Hayamma".

His next movie Lawyer Suhasini was a disappointment in many ways, again Maharshi was one of those "You hate it or love it" kind of movies. The story of unrequited one sided love, of the title character who pursues the woman he loves Suchitra( Shantipriya). It was the Arjun Reddy of those times, and most audiences did not like the style of narration or the rather down beat ending, as the movie flopped. It however had a great score again by Illayaraja with songs like "Sumam Prati Sumam", "Maata Raani Mounam".

Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Recording Dance Troupe to me again one of his best movies ever, set against the backdrop of the recording dance troupes, with a love story thrown in between. The movie was a complete fun ride, with dialogues set in typical Godavari Yaasa, and memorable performances by Naresh, Kota, Mallikarjuna Rao, Ralapalli, Thanikella Bharani, Y.Vijaya. Great soundtrack again by Illayaraja where he also uses old songs of NTR, ANR, Krishna to good effect.

Chettu Kinda Pleader was another superb comic thriller, and for a change Vamsy sets the movie in Tirupathi. Remake of the Malayalam movie Thanthram, the movie has Rajendraprasad as Balaraju, a down and out lawyer, who gets to fight the case of a rich widow Sujatha( Urvasi), when her father in law Sarabayya( Gollapudi) files a suit claiming the property is his legally. Vamsy wonderfully combines comedy with drama and thriller, creating a really entertaining movie. Somehow it was not much of a success when released, but in later years has become a favorite on video, DVD. Again a superb musical score by Illayaraja with songs like "Jigijigaa", "Allibili Kalala", "Neeru gaari paari poku", "Chalti ka Naam Gaadi".

April 1 Vidudula would be Vamsy's last really great movie starring Rajendra Prasad as a smooth talking videographer Diwakaram, who lies, cheats his way to success. His life takes a turn when the woman he loves Bhuvaneshwari( Shobana) puts a condition that he should not tell any lies for one month, and should speak only truth, throwing everything into turmoil. Setting against backdrop of Rajahmundry Railway Quarters, the movie combines comedy and drama effectively, and went on to become one of the biggest hits in his career. Again a superb score by Illayaraja with songs like "Vompula Vaikhiri", " Nijamante", "Chukkalu Temanna", "Okate Aasa".

However Detective Narada with Mohan Babu turned out to be a huge disappointment, as the movie bombed badly. And with Joker, he stopped his collaboration with Ilayaraja and composed the music himself, which in a way started his decline. Vamsy's movies were not the same without Illayaraja, and a series of very disappointing movies followed. Even though he did make a comeback in 2002 with Avunu Vallidaru Ishtapaddaru, it was nowhere close to his earlier classics.
Apart from being a director, Vamsy is also a great writer, he wrote 5 novels, and around 360 short stories in Telugu. His series of stories Maa Pasarlapudi Kathalu, Maa Diguva Godavari Kathalu are a wonderful depiction of life in rural Godavari districts, on par with RK Narayan's Malgudi Days. Not many explored Godavari districts as intimately as he did covering the world of recording dance troupe artists, railway quarters, villages, creating characters with all the quirks, eccentricities, faults who remain memorable to date.

The unit is working properly however I read that before recording it might be a good idea to clean the unit for the best possible recording output from the player. A software update nuked my Sonos system so I can't listen to music, so I'll write about music instead... Here are a handful of live performances I think are better than the studio versions. I'm only including things that are readily accessible, either on official releases or online. Just my opinion, of course, and I'd love to hear yours. So...
"Cactus Tree" on "Miles of Aisles." I think she was a much better singer in 1974 than she was in 1968. "Circle Game" is perfect on this record, too. It really wants to be a singalong.
"Edith and the Kingpin" on "Shadows and Light." I love the groove of the live performance, and I feel like it presents the lyric better.
"For Free" on the "Refuge of the Roads" DVD. She transforms this song with a couple of new lines added to the end of each verse. It's stunning. And I think she was a much better singer in 1983 than she was in 1970. The performances of "God Must Be a Boogieman" and "Woodstock" are also my favorite versions.
"Comes Love" from the "Painting With Words and Music" DVD. Just wow. So seductive and joyful.
The rest of these are not on official Joni releases, but all can be found pretty easily.
"The Three Great Stimulants" live at the Duke of Your Theatre in 1985. An acoustic version with Joni on guitar and (I think) Larry Klein on piano. It's on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV7smboHWlY One of my top-10 all-time Joni songs, stripped of its ’80s arrangement and shining like a diamond. I just wish the sound quality was better, and hope something like this shows up on "Archives Vol. 5" someday.
"Just Like This Train" from KCRW Rare on Air Vol.3," a CD released by our local NPR station in 1995, and not too hard to find used. Just Joni and Larry again, with Joni on acoustic. This spare performance reveals the bones of the studio arrangement—it's all in Joni's guitar (which is unfortunately just a little out of tune, but everything else is so perfect I don't care).
"Love's Cries" and "Facelift" live on KSCA 101.9 Music Hall in 1995. These are from a solo acoustic show at the Gene Autry Museum that was broadcast on a local radio station, three years before their studio versions were released. The whole thing is on archive.org: https://archive.org/details/joni-mitchell-1995-gene-autry-museum-la-ksca and also on a reasonably common bootleg CD. "Love's Cries" is an early version of "The Crazy Cries of Love," and I think both the lyric and the melody work better before her very minor rewrite. "Facelift" is the same as the studo version, but the song really benefits from the intimacy of the solo acoustic setting. I recorded it off the radio when it aired, and there was a blast of static right in the middle of a guitar break in "Facelift," so I was very glad to find other recordings.

Yes musicals plural. Or at least stage plays?? I know there was the one just now in 2023, which if anyone has any clips or info on that I'd love that too. But I'm specifically talking about the 2013 theatrical productions. There were 2 of them, based on what I've found. Code Geass Riot's Festival, and Code Geass Prelude for the Sorcerer. I specifically would love to figure out if there was any recordings of Prelude for the Sorcerer as I think it looks awesome but can only find 1 article on it with cast photos.
Since after several hours of googling I've yet to find any further info, just lots of dead links and repeated information from the 1 article, I figure I might ask if anyone else knows anything. If there ever was an official recording or DVD release or anything like that? I would even take some stage photos. Literally anything.

Pinanood ko yung Stardoom ni Lino Brocka (available sa Cinema One Youtube page as 11 parter). Tungkol siya sa mabilis na pagtaas at pagbulusok ng isang newbie star - starring Walter Navarro, and Charito Solis. Na-obsess lang ako sa kay Walter Navarro kasi weirdly modern siyang tingnan. Nandun din si Hilda Koronel (parang teenager pa ata siya nun) at si Lotis Key, na mas kilala na as foster parent ni Wesley So(Filipino Chess Player).
Almost wala akong mabasa tungkol kay Walter Navarro except sikat daw siyang matinee star na biglang nawalan ng career mid-Seventies until nakito ko tong comment na to: <source>
Walter Navarro was around in the 1970s when I was involved in Television. When both of us were present in the studio, a lot of people mistook us for brothers. Maybe because we both speak Bicolano and both Eurasian as well.
Before he became an actor (it was Orlando Nadres and Tony Tenorio who put his photo at the cover of 16 Magazine) and later they introduced him to Mrs. Emilia Blas, producer of Lea Productions.
While he was busy in films, he was also doing the rounds of TV dramas and that's where we've worked together.
From what he had told me, he came from a very dysfunctional family. His mother who was from Bicol was never an inspiration for the young Walter. When he was young lad in Tondo, he was working as a factory worker, making holes for shoelaces. And when Nadres spotted him, he asked him if he wants his photo be placed on the cover of the komiks/magazine to which he acquiesed.
Without the guidance of his family, Walter became lost. He started drinking, despite the fact that he had a heart condition. He became an alcoholic. I even went to his rented house in New Manila a few times and his friends were there (mostly Tondo boys - his old stumping ground), playing mahjong and... you guess it, drinking.
Mrs. Blas lost all her patience and finally let him go. Once, he took his medication and accidentally OD'd. It paralyzed him partially and it took a while before he recovered. Then his heart ailment became serious. He ended up in the hospital and when I went to visit his house, he and the old couple who took care of him were no longer there. I had several roles written for him for TV dramas, but no one seemed to know where he was. I was already in north America when I heard that he had died.
Walter was a good person. Dysfunctional, indeed, but nevertheless a beautiful person. He gave me some of the records he cut under Vicor Music Corp. His voice was really excellent. I ripped them into DVD so I could listen to them whenever I go long driving. When I listen to his voice, I am always reminded of the generous Bicolano who once lived and made a lot of the Filipino public happy.
STARDOOM was almost prophetic. Like Joey in Orlando Nadres' story, his career and life were cut short by unfortunate circumstances. The psychological impact of his dysfunctional childhood was just too deeply embedded in his psyche and it took him to an early grave.
Unfortunately, the MAALAALA MO KAYA episode about his life (played by Alberta(sic) Martinez), didn't delve deeper into the reasons why Walter became what he was later (an alcoholic). The episode tells us what happens to a popular actor who didn't take care of his career and ended up tragically. That's all we saw in that episode.
Meanwhile, they have forgotten WALTER NAVARRO the person. Despite his weaknesses, he was a wonderful person and this side of the man was never told to us by the TV drama.

2024.05.14 16:08 foetusized Saw a ‘RSD Exclusive’ hype sticker on a 7” single in Walmart - Aretha Franklin “Respect” was a 2017 Black Friday ‘RSD First’ release

I was at my local Walmart to buy cat food, and passed by this end-cap in the electronic department. They placed this 7” single display on top of a BluRay/DVD new release display a few months back. This record caught my eye as I walked past, as I hadn’t seen it there before, and it had a silver foil “Record Store Day Exclusive” hype sticker.
Walmart is not a place I expected to see an RSD exclusive release, so I snapped a couple photos so I could look it up when I got home. It turns out this was a ‘RSD First’ release (not exclusive as the hype sticker states) from Black Friday 2017.
The Doors’ single next to it is a 50th anniversary reissue of a 1968 promo single, so someone is stocking Walmart with 6ish year old 7” singles.

I recently just bought a Magnavox ZV457MG9 A off Facebook from this old couple. The HDMI works both sound and audio when watching a DVD but when I switch to VHS only video,but when I switch to composite cables audio and video work. Now the issue is when I set up a DVD and use the D.DUBBING option no audio plays or is recorded no matter what cables I have hooked up. Is this system just defective or is there a setting or something I’m over looking.

Hey I was wondering if anyone on here happens to have an English version of the season 7 episode of the 1980s Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon "The Princess and the Pig", that's the one episode I've not been able to find in English anywhere. Part of the reason aside from that season not getting a DVD release(utterly baffled how a show this popular still hasn't got a complete series DVD release yet)is that unlike the first few seasons the later seasons weren't shown in reruns in syndication so most of those later episodes only exist in low quality recordings. So if anyone has an English version of this episode please do let me know.

2024.05.13 12:30 mariog9 need help restoring data from old(ish) HDD

So...quite a long shot here, but lets see if I can get some help, since in dont really know that much about hard drives etc...
I have an old DVD recorder, with some videos inside, which i cant recover, so I thought, i might aswel connect the HDD to my PC and copy them.
I opened the DVD recorder(philips dvdr725h) and i got to the HDD (Maxtor DiamondMax 16 ATA 133 3.5 Series) with what I believe to be IDE/PATA connection.
I have a SATA-PC box connector which I wanted to use, but I realized I cant, but my questions are:
1) Will I be able to connect the HDD to my SATA connector with a proper cable? Like this one: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B08KT3F998/ref=sw_img_1?smid=A3NOZO16BXZIGW&psc=1
2) Will I need to provide power to my HDD? I guess yes, but is it enough if I just turn ON the whole DVD Recorder? or will I need to connect sth directly to the HDD ?
In my mind this should be an easy Task

I agreed with a lawyer, he said he could erase this sentence with community service or something for $1150. What do you think I should do? It has been 8 months since I came to America, and when I was sentenced, I only passed the written exam, I did not take the road test. I got my driver's license 1 week ago.📷

I tried to get into vinyls in high school but it never really sparked anything. I was looking up my collection to see if there was anything and i think I have a rare beyonce vinyl?
Its the self titled - it has the booklet, both records (barely ever spun tbh), and the visual DVD. its not shrinkrapped - and doesnt have the original download code (i think my highschool self used it).
anyways! I am looking to get it off my hands and it would be nice to have a bit of extra cash for bar exam fees - but not looking to extort anyone so figured id ask around here first :) dm or comment if you're interested !

2024.05.13 01:40 wolfwatcher81 Almost died because of hospital. Do I have a case for malpractice?

(43 M) 200 lbs Type 1 diabetes, Arizona.
Last October I had my 14th foot surgery while admitted to the hospital. Went under general anesthesia during the surgery. They said everything went well and was sent home a few days later.
8 hours later I was back in the ER with low oxygen saturation and chest pain. They did a chest x-ray and chest MRI. Got admitted for hospital caused pneumonia (there words).
My oxygen saturation kept getting worse, so respiratory kept having to up things more and more. During one of the respiratory treatments I coughed up a piece of plastic from my lungs about he size of a large piece of rice. I spit it into a Kleenex looked at it and was bloody piece of plastic, I assume it's from being under general anesthesia and having a plastic tube being placed in my airway.
After I handed it to respiratory, he took it out of the room and threw it away.
My CO2 levels kept going up so I was moved to ICU and eventually intubated for 4 days but was awake and able to write the whole time. I did sleep some. This was because the pain meds I take on a daily basis made the drugs to knock me out not work very well.
So do I have a case here? If you need more information please ask. I also got a copy of the MRI DVD and the medical records.

A long time bug in iCUE
This only happens when I have iCUE running as I wake up my pc. I have to change this 8 channel setting to the 2 channel setting when I swap audio from my speakers to my headset EVERY TIME. If I don't my audio starts to pop and crackle. iCUE is causing this problem, I know that because on a few rare occasions iCUE just didn't start up properly and I wouldn't have to change this setting. Nothing I do forces my corsair headphones to stay on the 2 channel setting. I don't know why this problem persists with iCUE, but it's extremely annoying to have to change this setting every single day.
EDIT: This has been going on for at least 2+ years now by the way.

Hi everyone, I finished the Dresden Files a few weeks ago and am about to finish the Iron Druid Series as well. I was recommened the Sandman Slim books and am havong trouble finding books 1, 2 and 3 as an audiobook in germany. Audible has books 4-12 but for some reason not the first 3. Does anyone know where I can find those?
Edit: Book 1 seems available as a german version from 2017. Seems like it did not go well because since then none have been recorded. Further searching lead me to believe, that it is some weird licensing at play here. Books 1-3 are available in the USA via audible but not germany. Also found some sites that sell books 1-6 as an audibook CD or DVD (the last dvd-player i head went to the trash years ago). I am pretty sure it is not possible for me to get those books legally.
