Also my result is GPA 5 with an A in Bangla and the rest are A+. How would that affect my choices?

Hi there! I am trying to learn Bangla for my Bangladeshi boyfriend (future husband) but I don't know where to start. He normally translates stuff for me, but we are long distance for a few months as I had to visit my home country for a while (Pakistan🫣) and I want to surprise him when we meet again.
I am really fluent in Urdu and Hindi both so I can pick up some things he says, but I want to be better. My grandfather is Bangladeshi, but he has a different dialect and his Bangla sounds more traditional and hard for me so that hasn't been helpful as my boyfriend is from Dhaka.
My focus is more on speaking and understanding spoken Bangla rather than learning how to read and write. So I wanted to know how I can start, what resources I can use?

What's the best way to learn about new, popular Bangla music if you live abroad and are not on Facebook. Is there anything like Billboard Top Ten or something?

So, few days ago, it was birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and quite a few BD news media published some articles about him. I went through the comments and my goodness it was just full of just hating on him, saying he was Indian poet, he was against Bangladesh and a lot more. These illiterate fucks don't even know Tagore died before Bangladesh was even born. Now, I am not a literature guy and definitely not a Tagore fan, but had read some of his poetry and short stories for Bangla classes in school. I knew this much that he lived and died when there was no Kolkata or Bangladesh, so I always perceived him as one of our poets. Also, he had won Nobel prize for Bangla at that time and we speak Bangla, so I used to kind of take pride in that. But how did the dynamics change this much in span of 5/6 years? Now, don't tell this just exists in Facebook. Cause, in tha last Eid, I was just hanging over with a friend and just randomly said this year's Eid had a good timing, we got vacation for both Eid and Noboborsho. He straight up said he enjoyed vacations for Eid only, doesn't care for Noboborsho. Again, I didn't enjoy Noboborsho for last 3/4 years, mostly cause couldn't come up with good plans, but never thought this wasn't our festival, cause I knew from school that it was crafted by none other than the kings/nawabs of Bangla at that time, so how can it not be a festival for Bangla.
So, I seriously believe people of this country are just getting dumb day by day. Also, what's with the school these days? Did these guys never attend school or the teachers and books are just straight up garbage?

Hi there, I just finished a one-week trip to Thailand and wanted to create a comprehensive post here for all Indians (and others) who plan to visit. Will try to cover everything but if I miss something, please let me know so I can add it as an edit later :)

1. Overview: Girlfriend and I planned a 7-night, 8-day trip to Thailand, 27th April to 4th May. We booked flights from Mumbai as that turned out to be cheaper and faster compared to booking from Pune.
   
2. Cost: After a lot of planning and budgeting, the entire trip cost us ~INR 75,000 per head, including shopping worth INR 3,000.
   

COST BREAKDOWN per person (INR) Flights - 30,000 (including 4K for Krabi to DMK) Transport - 5,550 Hotel - 13,000 Food and drinks - 8,200 Experiences - 4,444 SIM - 1,191 Shopping - 5,900 Misc. - 5,000 TOTAL = INR 73,000

1. Itinerary: 27th-29th in Phuket, 29th-1st in Krabi, 1st-3rd in Bangkok, 3rd overnight at Pattaya and back to Bangkok DMK airport by noon for the flight out on the 4th.
   
2. Visa and docs: Visas are exempted for Indians until May 10th (I think this has been extended). I'd been told by many to carry proof of cash, hard copies of Aadhar, Passport, hotel bookings, flight bookings. But none of that was required. I travelled with ONLY my phone, passport and wallet. At immigration, they only asked for my boarding pass and passport. No need to carry any other document. After 10th May, you may need to carry passport photos and Visa fees.
   
3. Payments: With the intention of paying everywhere by card, I decided to order the 'Niyo' card. But two factors swayed me against it. One, Thailand being a cash-economy, most vendors won't accepts cards. Two, I'd heard a few horror stories about one being unable to retrieve money from their DCB Niyo account. After much thought, my girlfriend and I decide to carry THB 22,000 in cash and INR 5,000 in Niyo which my father could send money to in 5K increments. We also carried INR 20,000 in cash as insurance money which reminded untouched. Our goal was to finish all our cash before boarding our return flight to avoid the hassle and loss associated with exchanging the money back to INR.
   
4. Forex - We got the best exchange rate at Orient Exchange, DP Road, Pune. We exchanged INR 51,480 at THB 1 = INR 2.34 and received THB 22,000. This might seem too low an amount for two people for 8 days but we had backup cash, a Niyo card and wanted to finish our cash to avoid exchanging again.
   
5. Flights: Wanting to do this trip on a budget, we booked the cheapest possible flights. BOM to HKT was at 5pm IST (direct). The return was DMK to BOM at 8pm Thai Time (direct). Each flight cost ~INR 13,000. Internal flight from HKT to DMK cost INR 3,500. IMPORTANT - The internal Thai AirAsia flight did not include check-in luggage. I had to pay THB 1,300 (INR 3,000) for my check-in bag. Just something to keep in mind.
   
6. Hotels: Phuket: Lub d Phuket, Patong - Excellent hotel for the price. Good room, good location. Recommended!
   

Krabi: Sea Seeker - 10/10 room and price. About 2km from the beach. Situated right in front of a huge bouldemountain thingy. Did not want to leave the room.
Bangkok: La Petit Sukhumvit 11 - Unclean, cramped rooms with thin walls (IYKYK). And this was the free upgrade to the premier room, can't imagine what the basic room must be like. On the 2nd night, we decided to upgrade to the Deluxe room for THB 300 (INR 700). While it was well worth it, the AC control unit was locked and kept varying between 29-32°C making it quite warm in the room. The staff was not friendly and refused to tell me why the Deluxe room didn't have adjustable AC, but location was great. All in all though, maybe don't book this hotel. Bad experience!
Pattaya: Fifth Jomtien (Pattaya) - Good location, but incredibly rude staff. The room was good quality but unclean and try refused to clean it even after promising to. Definitely overpaid for this one. Not recommended, stay at Hotel Sirin or somewhere else!
SIM Card: Avoid buying an overpriced SIM on arrival at the airport. Even the "unlimited" ones for THB 619 only offer unlimited data upto 15-20GB. After that, the speed goes down to under 1Mbps. Instead, get a genuine unlimited SIM at any 7-11. There are plenty of those in Thailand, so just take a cab back to your hotel after you land and find a 7-11 on the way to buy a SIM.

1. Transportation: 'Grab' and 'Bolt' are the 'Ola' and 'Uber' of Thailand. Make sure to check for applicable offers before booking. The scooter option is cheap. The in-built map on these apps was glitchy. It was hard to pinpoint my and the drivers' locations. Be sure to double-check.
   
2. Food: I want to highlight the convenience of 7-11s. These stores are everywhere, sometimes within a few metres of each other. While the packaged food available there is not healthy, the cost and convenience are great assets for any tourist. My fav options there were: Plain Greek yogurt w/ chocolate muesli (THB 22) Sausage and cheese sandwich (THB 39). 7-11 only accepts card payments above THB 200 so be sure to have enough cash on hand. On the other hand, local food is cheap, good quality and available everywhere. Some standouts were - Mango sticky rice, chicken satay, mangosteen fruits are definitely to be tried, yellow Thai curry, etc.
   
3. Phi Phi islands tour: We decided to visit Phi Phi islands via a speedboat tour. I'd recommend booking after you reach Thailand as the prices are cheaper than what you see online, at least in India. Be sure to carry water cases so you can click pictures and LOTS of sunscreen.
   
4. Other places we visited: Phuket - Bangla road Krabi - Night market, Techo Vayo for some excellent red curry 🤤 Bangkok - Nana plaza, Soi Cowboy, Platinum mall, Indra square and Rock Eagle for metal bands merch Pattaya - Floating market, Jomtien night market for food, Pattaya walking street
   
5. Miscellaneous: We ran out of THB on our last day but none of the 3 exchanges at DMK airport had INR, which was surprising. The Niyo withdrawal fee was THB 200 which is exorbitant! Do not attend ping pong shows, they're mostly a scam. The 1,000 and 100 THB notes look pretty similar, could be a little confusing.
   

Conclusion: We had an excellent trip to Thailand. It being my first international trip, I was extra excited! If we could do things differently, I would definitely have liked to live 1-2 days more in Pattaya, the sunsets and vibe there are amazing! We lived in Bangkok for 2 nights which wasn't necessary at all. Nothing much to see there.

I know there are online tutors for cheap, but is it possible to learn Bangla without learning how to read and write? Just for conversational purposes. This person has 0 knowledge and is an adult so ofcourse much harder to pick up the language.

This question might be stupid because it really is just a personal decision but I just spent two weeks in patong, I done the island tour etc but I just really loved the nightlife (bangla road) and I’d love to just experience it again, but I’ve been told it might be a bit of a waste to go more than once and not try somewhere else.
