2024.05.14 05:06 NextEpisodeOTT Murder In Mahim Season 1 : Review

This series, Murder in Mahim, is based on and adapted from a book by Jerry Pinto with the same name. It was shortlisted for the Crossword Book Award for fiction in 2017. This series follows journalist Peter's investigation of a murder in the bustling city of Mumbai and the subsequent unraveling of dark secrets hidden within its crowded streets. When Sunil, his own son, is named as a suspect in the case, things get more serious. As he digs deeper into the case, he discovers that the city he thought he knew so well is full of surprises and dangers hidden in every corner.
The strongest point of the series would be its leading cast and its varied characters. Be it the highly regarded Vijay Raaz, Ashustoh Rana, and especially Ashitosh Gaikwad as his character Name UNIT, what a fantastic performance he has given. His voice modulation and facial expressions reminded me of Nawazuddin Siddiqui. When he came on the screen, I was extra attentive; he is my favorite character, and on the other hand, the story and the subplots between Firduas Rabbani and her partner were cliched but somewhat interesting too; the dialogues between Ashutosh Rana and his son Sunil Ferenandez regarding the topic of LGBTQ were very nicely written. I wish those scenes had been explored more deeply to add more depth to other characters as well.
What could've been better? Definitely, the story development and its writing. I think they wanted to create some deep emotional drama, but sadly, instead, it turned out to be a slow and sometimes uninteresting drama with unnecessary distractions and low effort cliffhangers. For example, pranks are used as cliffhangers and unnecessary distractions just to confuse and drag the story further, and on the other side, the supporting cast's characterization was not the problem, but their performance was a big letdown, which in turn kept me disconnected from multiple key scenes. As far as the background music is concerned, even that did not have much of an impact. I understand that the main aspect of this series is mostly to focus on crime drama with a message to convey, and I think that's the reason why the cinematography was just so bland. If you look at Kohrra, a similar style and genre series, it had some exceptionally well-done cinematography, which sometimes took the mood of the scenes to the next level.
Can you binge-watch this series?
There is a long wait before things start to get interesting. For instance, I thought things were finally getting serious in the fourth episode, but the next episode itself falls flat again. It's not until the last few episodes that things start to get interesting, but as it is a slow burner, even if you skip a few of the scenes, watch it for the quality performances by Vijay Raaz, Ashustoh Rana, Shivani Raghuvamshi, and especially the phenomenally talented Ashitosh Gaikwad. I really wish him good luck and look forward to seeing him in more movies and series very soon.
For a better understanding of how each episode turned out, I have made a line chart and rated the series episode-wise. Here it is.
This week's recommendation is Kohrra. This Indian TV series, which is set in Punjab, follows the story of two police officers, Balbir Singh and Amarpal Garundi, who are tasked with investigating the murder of an NRI bridegroom, Paul Dhillon. The investigation quickly uncovers a web of deceit, secrets, and family drama. Paul's family and friends all have their own motives for wanting him dead, and the officers must sift through the lies and half-truths to get to the truth. This is one of those slow-burners, along with the thrilling story where the characters grow on you and morally make you think about and analyze the society we live in, which makes this thriller series a must watch.
For now, have a great weekend and keep bingeing. I'll see you in the next video with another review. Ah peace.

2024.05.14 05:05 MichaelfromKroger Writing Development Website/Program

Good evening y'all (it's 11 pm EST)
I'm currently a college student pursuing an IT degree and I was speaking with my father in law about an idea for a writing skills development program. The basis of the program/website is to teach students from Elementary school to the highschool and collegiate level on how to write essays. He posits that his students he has worked with do not have a good grasp on how to format their essays and papers, which then falls short in their future academic courses and he wants to make a program that will help them step by step.
My general layout right now is that it will be split into different levels of writing. From Levels 1 through 5: Elementary, Middle School, High School, College Prep, and Collegiate level writing skills. Within each level, I'll have writing tips and exercises to help the students learn the proper way to write their essays, with the Five Paragraph Essay as the format they will be learning.
Level 1: Sentence Structure, Formatting, and Composition. This includes things like spelling, capitalization, punctuation, etc.
Level 2: Adding in proper grammar, sentence continuation, paragraph structure, readability and comprehension, editing skills (rereading to make sure it is grammatically correct, has proper punctuation, sounds academically thought out, etc). We'll introduce how to write and connect multiple paragraphs as well as intro, body, and conclusion.
Level 3: Here we'll reinforce sentence structure for Intro, body, and conclusion paragraphs as well as citation and source material research. We'll start on how to properly write a Five paragraph essay with the hourglass/pyramid format (Broad introduction that gets more specific when it gets to the thesis sentence, body paragraphs with point evidence and example sentences, and then specific reintroduction of main points to a broad conclusion of the thesis). [I may have this in the Middle school Level 2 section as this is something I learned in middle school] We will also introduce different types of essays such as Argumentative, Systhesis, Compare and Contrast, Narrative, Persuasive, etc.
Level 4: In this level we will introduce the importance of rough draft, revise and polish, editing and formatting, and college entrance essays and college application questions. This section will mostly be open to Junior (11th) and Senior (12th) grade students who are preparing for their academic life outside of Highschool. We will also be introducing how to write cover letters, resumes, and exploring the other side of life outside of High school.
Level 5: Collegiate level writing will focus on precision writing, using the fewest words necessary to accurately convey an idea. Objectivity, using accurate, clear and relevant information. Logical Structure, using precise word choice and structure. Researching, Formatting, time management, and consistence and conciseness. We will also go back to resume and cover letter writing for those who are looking for a career after a degree. We will be adding a section to help students with term paper writing as well as advancement (Masters and Doctorate level) writing.
I wanted to reach out to former, current, and aspiring English Teachers to ask for feedback on this idea. Is this something that you would use in your class as a teaching tool for your students? What can be done for this to be implemented in your classes if this website/program gets published? What things should be added, removed, improved, or changed in the current idea to make it go alongside the current English course curriculum in your school district? What else should be included to facilitate user interaction with this website?
Please give me as much feedback as you can think of, whether that is directly on this post or in a direct message. My hope and goal is to be able to develop the future generation and to move away from using AI as a writing tool because it takes away the practical skills that is severely lacking in some, if not most, of the students today.

2024.05.14 05:02 Entire-Ice5238 Slow eater

Hi hi!
I’m relatively new to this diagnosis and just have a general question.
I currently use a BGM. I’d like to add a CGM to the mix eventually, but I also manage an anxiety and OCD diagnosis. My psychiatrist and therapist (LCSW) have suggested a gradual transition to CGM once I’m in a better mental space to cope with & manage this new lifestyle considering my tendency to obsess over the numbers. The BGM allows a healthy set of boundaries that I can’t cross even if I want to.
That being said, I am and always have been a VERY slow eater. I’m curious as to how this affects my BGM readings?
For example, I had two eggs, an avocado, and half a chicken breast for lunch. I started eating at 12:45 and finished eating at 2:37 - 8 minutes before the two hour testing mark.
Would this cause my readings to be slightly high considering that I had just consumed a bite of food right before testing? I know a CGM would help w this, but I need to find some balance between the mental and physical so I don’t spiral!
Sorry if this is a silly question! Every time I think I’m getting the hang of this, it seems like something else pops up lol.

2024.05.14 05:01 Toastedavocado_ Car/Apartmemt

Am I the asshole because I decided to buy a car rather than move into an apartment with my 5 year bf? Here’s a little background: I graduated university 2 years ago and unfortunately had to move back into my parent’s home because I needed a job. I became a teacher (as we all know teachers only make but so much). I (27f) have been saving up for the past 2 years with my bf (26) to get an apartment. He won’t open up to me about his budget and what he’s comfortable with but I’ve been an open book about my monthly income and what my monthly expenses are. I’m strictly set with paying 50/50 but he swears up and down that there’ll be times where I’ll rely on him (just to clarify, I make a bit more than he does monthly and he’s still in college). I’ve recently decided I needed a new car because I’ve paid off my other one and came to the conclusion that I’ve gotten tired of looking into apartments (he didn’t show any interest in moving out together nor got excited to tour apartments whenever I brought up the idea). I got the new car because we live 2 hours away from each other and my small car just wasn’t cutting it for that 2 hour drive. Now he’s angry and all of a sudden showing interest about moving in together. Am I the asshole for wanting to finally splurge on myself after 2 years of just saving?

2024.05.14 04:59 CuteSocks7583 WhatsApp on iOS notifications only shows the other person’s WhatsApp username and not my contact name

Basically, title.
For example, if I’ve got a contact John in my Contacts, and he messages me, and his WhatsApp username in his account is j4jones, then my iOS notification (on the Lock Screen) shows up as j4jones.
Interesting thing is, if I’ve got Bluetooth headphones connected and I’ve set Siri to read out the notifications, it reads it as “WhatsApp message from John…” or “John sent a WhatsApp message…”
I’ve got notification previews set to on, and I’ve got background refresh set to off.
Tried googling it, but couldn’t find anything relating to this specific issue (not even sure how to word the issue exactly!).

2024.05.14 04:51 nana_had_a_fall 5 current theories about J’s hiddenness: a deepish dive according to me.

Posting this off the back of the last J post where i noticed we all have about 5 different theories about why J is hidden from Ashley’s SM. I wanted to address the main 5 theories and why I think only 1 of them tracks with all we know of Ashley and her behavioupersonality. J being hidden is a big and curious enough arc of Ashley’s as to warrant speculation and discussion- I say that as a caveat as I know some folks here find speculative posts distasteful, but I personally think theyre valid within reason.
  1. Ashley doesnt want J to discovery her SM/snark sub- I think Ashley is VERY cocky and confident about her SM platform. I bet she is boastful about it and it is very much part of how she identifies as “special”. I do not believe she’s ever tried to hide her SM from anyone. Just look at the geotags for her hospital. That she posts under her legal name on a public platform, never once going private. She has updated LinkedIn after graduation using her name- knowing full well that people will google her. I do not believe she finds her snark sub or google search of her name problematic either because I truly believe she sees criticism as both evidence that she is “famous” and that people are super “jealous” of her. Her narcissistic defence mechanisms cannot and will not process criticism as anything but an affirmation that she is important. She is in 100% denial in this way, which is why she doesnt change her username/go private/damage control. Anything but asspats = a different kind of asspat in the mindscape of Ashley Carnduff.
  2. Ashley is protecting J from “trolls”- I find this very unlikely because I do not believe Ashley gives many fucks about anyone but herself. I do not see her having any insight whatsoever enough to think to herself: “I dont want to put J into the line of fire as Im aware I’m a little controversial”- “protecting” J from potential online fallouts would infer that she is VERY aware of how rubbish her online reputation is, but there is no evidence that she at all computes this enough to have a foresight to keep him away from it. It would be her admitting that she is problematic, and I dont think this revelation is possible for Ashley and how her disordered thinking behaves.
  3. J himself has asked Ashley not to reveal him - This would imply J is well aware of her reputation and has smartly asked her not to involve him because he doesnt want to be associated with her online- again, I find this an unlikely situation because I do not believe Ashley would put up with a person who has basically said “I’m ashamed to be associated with you online”. We have seen how she only talks about J via what HE does for HER, and I get the impression nothing less that total subservience to her is all she would tolerate in a relationship. Look at her post to Pacifica Beauty- the smugness, the self-surety, the RAGE in her face at anyone DARING to oppose her. J rejecting her SM would be a total affront to her idea of herself as all-mighty and amazing. I think it would be an affront to her ENTIRE personality as well, since SM is her one and only constant hobby/obsession and lifestyle. I would think a man asking her to keep him off her socials would be akin to a massive insult to her that she would NOT tolerate. Furthermore, if this dude WAS serious about her keeping him seperate, why does he happily let her take pics of his hands/feet, and constantly post about him? If he is direct enough to demand a separation between him and her socials, why would he be okay with posing like a monkey with pickleball paddles? Why would he be okay with her posting throwing rose petals on her bed at her mom’s house for Valentine’s Day? If he wants nothing to do with her socials, then why does he let her use him for her socials all the time?
  4. J is married - this is extremely unlikely. I do believe J has been accepted into her family as her “partner” and I do not believe they would condone their daughter having an affair with a married man. I also do not think Hailey Idaho is big enough for her to hide such a thing from the community. I also think J is mid 20’s- he does not at all appear older from the shots of his legs and hands. J almost certainly lives with his parents, or in a shitty house-share/hostel set-up- which is why J visits HER at Patti’s house and not the other way around.
  5. J is “ugly” according to Ashley - this is the most viable explanation imo and tracks with all we know about Ashley Carnduff and her self-serving personality and platform. He is simply not aesthetic enough for her SM. My bet is she of course hasn’t TOLD him this, but pretends that she’s protecting him from her “fame” as a way to explain why she doesnt want his mug in any of her pics. This explains why he is happy posing like a performative monkey with his hands, but not normal selfies, like any normal, happy couple would do.
Ashley is cunning and conniving, and SM is her entire world. Her hiding J, as far as I can tell, is 100% a decision SHE’S made for self-serving purposes and nothing more. It’s NOT to keep him private, or protect him from any potential online scandal. It’s NOT because she fears J will discover her atrocious reputation- that would require her to actually compute that she has humiliated herself AND done wrong. Not an option. Not with her. He’s definitely not married.
I also dont believe he’s just a random dude playing along cause he gets some sexy times on the side. He is real and they are in a relationship. He knows everything about her, but he is not in any position to take his pick from Hailey Idaho single ladies. He’s likely very awkward as well, and likely feels lucky to have any woman be with him- as she likely absolutely enjoys this fact. As harsh as that sounds, it really is the way these things often work in these matters. Being with an awkward and not intimidatingly attractive man, would be an ideal partner for someone like Ashley- he’s there to serve HER and he best always treat her like a princess because she’s SOOOO much out of his league and should count his blessings someone like HER would even consider him. A man who knows what he is, what he wants, and who can confidently go out and achieve that, is NOT a person that would appeal to a fragile narcissist like Ashley. She would not cope with the threat to her self-esteem being with a man who has his shit together and has options.
Honourable mention: I get a suspicion that Ashley dove quickly into a relationship because she was triggered by her ex - who she likely stalked online daily for a LONG time after the breakup and lost her fucking mind when she saw he had happily moved on with a woman he is proud to take selfies with. I think this whole relationship arc was triggered by her mental instability surrounding her ex- but has now developed into an actual relationship. Because this J arc was triggered by some emotional revenge toward her ex, revealing his face as “not aesthetic” would be counteractive to her goal of making her ex jealous. I personally think it’s as simple as that.

2024.05.14 04:51 __Bloo__ You HAVE to try this Fallout 4 build!

You HAVE to try this Fallout 4 build!
Have you ever wanted the perfect build for a waste lander scabbed assassin? omething similar to that of maybe the “Stalker” games? This build is a formidable one at that, you scavenge every component needed to complete your goal and crush any competitor who steps in your way.
This build is incredible aesthetically and gameplay wise and it’s all completely obtainable without mods (Some DLCs will be required, if you DO NOT have DLCs I have provided some substitutions down below)
Face Paint: •Full eye black •Diamond eyes
Grime: Coal Miner
Apparel: Hunters Hood (Obtained through Far Harbor DLC) Colonel Coat (Obtained through “Speak of the Devil” Quest-line)
Weapons: •The Deliverer (Obtained during “Tradecraft” quest) •The Problem SolveSplatter-Cannon (Both obtained through Nuka World DLC •Pickman’s Blade (Obtained through Pickman’s Gift” quest)
Perks: Entirely optional however I would prioritize •Gunslinger •Commando •Sneak •Ninja •Locksmith •Hacker •Pickpocket •Lone Wanderer •Idiot Savant •Scrapper •Stongback
Substitutions: Green hood 10 mm pistol suppressed Combat rifle suppressed
*The colonel jacket is not only upgradable through the armor station so you can add buffs like deep pocketed if you are a junk hoarder, ultra-lightweight if you are a pro triathlon runner, or if you want to be able to walk through the fire and flames towards your enemies menacingly with the asbestos lining, but it’s also compatible with ballistic weave allowing you to get that insane protection against your opponents!
*The deliverer and Problem Solver are probably the most aesthetically satisfying weapons in the game and have crazy legendary affects so you will not feel underpowered even though n the late game
*If you want to be immersive in dialogue and NPC relationships try to chose the most stoic options, anything that provides more caps, rewards, and someone who is morally grey, nothing to personal but you have boundaries to be set as what would set your character apart from any raider out their
Notes: I hope you all will enjoy the build if you try it, sorry for any mistakes this is my first Reddit Post. If you have any questions or feedback please let me know in the comments below, thank you. :)

2024.05.14 04:45 Maggie_ckm I implement basic school rules in my class (i.e. cell phone management), and the students loathe me for it. Wondering if I should just cave and stop next year.

TLDR: Should I stop enforcing rules that school management don't help me to enforce, and pretend I'm clueless?
First year as a new teacher (NB, high school). My school has some very specific basic rules students are required to follow (and I am required to ensure compliance as the teacher).
Example: Students can leave class whenever they want (sigh...), but they can never take their phone with them (must be left on the teacher's desk). They tend to congregate in bathrooms with multiple other students and make group social media posts...
1/3rd of the students will offer their phone with a genuine smile, 1/3rd will do it without a fuss IF I remind them to do it, and 1/3rd will act out. The latter third will cuss me out (very nasty words being used, including hate language), throw their phone at the desk while rolling their eyes and sighing, verbally attack me, call into question the fact that I'm paid to be there, etc. Some walk out giving me the finger and telling me I can't do anything (which is true, unless a 16 year old being made to relax in a calming room for a period is punishment). Odd behaviour for a basic school rule.
As far as I can estimate, about half the teachers enforce this rule, but the school management reminds us constantly that students cannot be in hallways with phones. I get frustrating messages on Teams from people in management roles telling me that "they saw my student walking around on their phone during my period" and reminding me "politely" that I should enforce the rule. I enforce it, religiously. Student leave calculators, empty cases, old phones, friends' phones (which the friend picks up a minute later giggling), etc. I have to try to inspect students to see if there's a cell phone shaped protuberance somewhere around their middle. If a student flips me off and leaves with their phone, proudly displaying it to other students as they leave, and there are never any consequences, why does that rule even exist?
As a more experienced teacher, would you just ignore a rule like this since you can't enforce it, and ignore any "friendly reminders" from management who coddle the kids whose behaviour leaves me stupefied on an hourly basis? I guess I know the answer. Just ignore the rule, let the kids do whatever and ignore the reminders to "do my job properly", but I'm interested in some input here. I'm finding it extremely difficult to find that middle ground when it comes to enforcing basic rules of behaviour without turning every class into a power struggle with students.
Any principals/vice principals here that are willing to confirm that you make up rules like this and bug teachers to enforce them without any real intention to support teachers in enforcing them? And why? Derriere covering? Good intentions that end up requiring too much work?

2024.05.14 04:42 wrldendswu Is my sibling a narc or am I exaggerating?

Hello, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong thread but I don't have anywhere else to go. I don't know if I'm reading the situation wrong/if I'm the crazy exaggerator so here I wanted an outside opinion.
For context, me and my sister were raised by my single mom, who is also an immigrant. My sister has classified my mom as a narcissist and an abuser, and I would definitely agree that she has narcissistic tendencies, they're pretty much in line with the "immigrant parent" experience and although the abuse has lessened with age.
My sister was pretty much the scapegoat and I was the golden child 80% of the time; the only time I was "the problem" was when social issues were involved as I was very much autistic+ADD and had no idea how to relate to others, so I was bullied and blamed for it. My sister has ADHD and was terrible at school, which is where a lot of my mom's anger towards her came from. She's very bitter about the majority of our childhood, which I understand; there are things that happened that I will also simply never recover from, even with therapy.
My sister is bubbly, charismatic, and very empathetic. I can't stress that enough; everyone loves her. She's friends with random people in our neighborhood, she talks to and befriends homeless people, and is training to be a social worker. She has many close friends and talks to them all day and night. Our relationship was pretty rocky when we were kids, and I can't say that we're as close as some siblings are, but I always thought our relationship was okay. My mom would sometimes complain that we were against her, but I think she was just frustrated that we wouldn't turn on each other easily. However, I did start to notice a few things about my sisters behavior that is concerning me.
I think this is a consequence of her never being trusted to do things as a child, but I thought she would attempt to get better with age. Nope. She would ask me to fill out her student loan and passport forms, saying that she was scared to get things wrong. When I would try to get her to do it herself, she would get upset with me and call me selfish. She says that this is because she feels that she is not smart enough to do anything bc of her childhood; fair, but she's 22 now, so I think she should try to help herself out and try to build confidence. She now pays her friends to fill out forms for her; one of them is actually being paid to apply for graduate programs for her. Any mention of this makes her talk about how badly she was treated as a kid and how its lead to her being so scared of doing anything, so OF COURSE she needs help 24/7.
But at the same time, she goes out of her way to help other people with their paperwork; she even helped a coworker get into grant/loan program for university, and that paperwork was 10 times harder than what she has to fill out. It's very confusing, it makes me feel like she does these things so people like her.
This has also steeped into how she approaches things like deadlines. She missed a deadline for a grant she really needed (twice) and spent an entire week emailing the grant team asking them to accept her application, and then emailing their bosses when they refused. Whenever she's rejected from graduate programs she's always confused and says she should've gotten in, even though there are some clear deficits in her applications.
A good example I can think of is that she asked me to chip in $23 for her friends birthday; I was confused why I had to pay since the girl wasn't MY friend. My sister argued that since I had talked to her and liked her, this made us friends, and friends contribute to birthdays. She also said if I backed out then she would have to split my part over other people who I would consider to be my friends and that those friends were in tight financial situations, so I would be a shitty person for making them pay extra. I still refused to pay; this really had nothing to do with me. She just looked at me and said that she was surprised that I was such a shitty person. There are similar stories to this; whenever she wants me to do something and I refuse, she makes me out to be a horrible person. Not in a yelling/screaming way; she just comments "oh, never knew you were that shitty" and keeps it up for however long it is until I do the thing she asked for. for some reason I never really saw them as weird until I brought it up with some friends and they said that was messed up.
pretty self explanatory. a lot of my sisters friends really like me; I think they see me as a big sister, and a lot of them are in similar situations/career paths as me. They're all very nice. My sister and I are very snarky towards each other, but she is especially mean to me in front of her friends. I'm not 100% sure what she says either; she tries her best to make sure I'm not around much when she's talking to her friends, going out of her way to make sure to exclude me from any plans she makes even when her friends want me to come. She also enjoys rubbing the fact she has friends/plans that I can't join in my face. I'm usually quite busy so it doesn't bother me much, but I have noticed it. she also tends to try and be mean to me in front of them as a joke, but if I snap back I can tell that she gets upset about it. She's asked me to not call her things like stupid in front of her friends (fair, she can be super sensitive about that), but has told many of them about my ASD without my permission (she only asked when they let it slip that they knew). So that's weird.
this is the thing that makes me feel INSANE. she is always telling me how horrible she has it at home and how much our mom hates her, and how I will never understand how it feels to be her so it's unfair when I call her out on things like not doing chores (like she does to me) because she will always be scolded more harshly than I will be. that's fine, a little grace is fine, but then she'll just outright lie about how "great" she is. For example, in the summer my mother was gone, so we split the chores in the house. I work a lot on weekdays, so she was to take care of general upkeep, and I would do the heavy chores (taking laundry to the laundromat, cooking in bulk for the week, mopping and vacuuming the apartment) on the weekend. I noticed that she would often not be the best at this, but as long as I could fix it on the weekend it was fine. But if I ever messed up, she would be merciless; she refused to wash the dishes for a whole week because I couldn't do them on Sunday since I had extra errands to run that weekend. I brought this up to her and she said we split the chores and that was that. I pointed out that she wasn't keeping her end of the bargain either, but she told me she was simply too busy to keep up with all the work she was being given and that the chore split was unfair anyway. I didn't really know how to deal with that so I dropped it.
There are more issues but I will leave it at this one for last. She has always been very vocal about setting boundaries with me and my mom. For example, we can't give her chores last minute or it messes up her schedule (even if she's doing nothing). She's also really big on talking issues out, but usually the talk just keeps going until we agree with whatever she's saying. Personally, I am the type of person who gets really short and petty when I'm angry, so its not a good idea to talk to me. She will INSIST on talking to me even when I want to shut the conversation down and say my refusal to talk is just proof that she's right and I'm wrong. But if I talk, the conversation will just repeat itself until she gets the answer she wants out of me. She's very good with therapy-speech as well; to be honest, she always sounds condescending when she argues with me or my mom even though she says I'm just projecting. I could be, but I don't hear it when she's arguing with her friends or in online classes.
I'm probably being very one sided here, but whenever I think about some of these issues it just reminds me of my mom in a way. I've survived my mom by just nodding along and waiting for the storm to blow over, but my sisters actions are much more annoying to me for some reason. If anyone has any input it would be appreciated. I don't want to think I'm living with 2 narcissists; maybe I'm actually the problem. because of my ASD I find it very hard to communicate my feelings and I tend to shut up or become very mean and short at random times. I try my best but I do need to work on using my words and making sure they can't be used against me.

2024.05.14 04:42 ExternalFollowing I watched all 22 demo videos of OpenAI’s new GPT-4o. Here are the 9 takeaways we all should know.

GPT-4o (“o” for “omni”) was announced a few hours ago by OpenAI, and although the announcement livestream is good, the real gold nuggets are in the 22 demo videos they posted on their channel.
I watched all of them, and here are the key takeaways and use cases we all should know. 👍🏻
A. The Ultimate Learning Partner
What is it? Give GPT-4o a view of the math problem you’re working on, or the objects you want to learn the language translation of, and it can teach you like no other tool can.
Why should you care? Imagine when you can hook up GPT-4o to something like the Meta Rayban glasses: then you can always have it teach you about whatever you are looking at. That can be a math problem, an object you want translated, a painting you want the history of, or a product that you want get the reviews of online. This single feature alone has incredibly many use-cases!
🔗 Video 7, Video 8
B. The Perfect Teams Meeting Assistant
What is it? Having an AI assistant during Teams meetings, whom you can talk to the same way you talk to your colleagues.
Why should you care? Their demo didn’t expound on the possibilities yet, but some of them can be…
  • having the AI summarise the minutes and next steps from the meeting
  • having the AI look up info in your company data and documentation pages (e.g. “what’s the sales from this month last year?”)
  • having the AI work on data analysis problems with you (e.g. “create a chart showing sales over the past 5 years and report on trends”)
🔗 Video 5
C. Prepare for Interviews like Never Before
What is it? Have GPT-4o act like the company you’re interviewing for.
Why should you care? What’s changed is that the AI can now “see” you. So instead of just giving feedback on what you say, it can also give feedback on how you say it. Layer this on top of an AI avatar and maybe you can simulate the interview itself in the future?
🔗 Video 11
D. Your Personal Language Translator, wherever you go
What is it? Ask ChatGPT to translate between languages, and then speak normally.
Why should you care? Because of how conversational GPT-4o has become, the AI now helps not just with translating the words, but also the intonation of what you’re intending to say. Now pair this with GPT-enabled earphones in a few years, and you pretty much can understand any language (AirPods x ChatGPT, anyone?)
🔗 Video 3
E. Share Screen with your AI Coding Assistant
What is it? Share screen with your AI partner, and have them guide you through your work.
Why should you care? Now this is definitely something that will happen pretty soon. Being able to “share screen” to your AI assistant can help not just with coding, but even with other non-programmer tasks such as work in excel, powerpoint, etc.
🔗 Video 20
F. A future where AIs interact with each other
What is it? Two GPT-4o’s interacting with each other, that sounds indistinguishable from two people talking. (They even sang a song together!)
Why should you care? Well there’s a couple of use cases:
  • can you imagine AI influencers talking to each other live on Tiktok? Layer this conversation with AI avatars and this will be a step beyond the artificial influencers you have today (e.g. the next level of @lilmiquela maybe?)
  • can this be how “walled” AIs can work together in the future? example: Meta’s AI would only have access to facebook’s data, while Google’s AI would only have access to google’s - will the two AIs be able interact in a similar fashion to the demo, albeit behind-the-scenes?
🔗 Video 2
G. AI Caretaking?
What is it? Asking GPT-4o to "train” your pets
Why should you care? Given GPT-4o’s access to vision, can you now have AI personal trainers for your pets? Imagine being able to have it connect to a smart dog-treat dispenser, and have the AI use that to teach your dog new tricks!
🔗 Video 12
H. Brainstorm with two GPTs
What is it? The demo shows how you can talk to two GPT-4o’s at once
Why should you care? The demo video is centered around harmonizing singing for some reason, but I think the real use case is being able to brainstorm with two specific AI personalities at once:
  • one’s a Devil’s Advocate, the other’s the Angel’s advocate?
  • one provides the Pros (the Optimist), the other gives the Cons (the Pessimist)?
  • maybe Disney can even give a future experience where you can talk to Joy and Sadness from the movie Inside Out? - that would be interesting!
🔗 Video 10
I. Accessibility for the Blind
What is it? Have GPT-4o look at your surroundings and describe it for you
Why should you care? Imagine sending it the visual feed from something like the Meta Rayban glasses, and your AI assistant can literally describe what you’re seeing, and help you navigate your surroundings like never before (e.g. “is what I’m holding a jar of peanut butter, or a jar of vegemite?”). This will definitely be a game-changer for how the visually impaired lives their daily lives.
🔗 Video 13
If this has been a tad bit insightful, I hope you can check out RoboNuggets where I originally shared this and other AI-related practical knowledge! (The links to the video demos are also there). My goal is not "AI daily news", as there's already too many of those, but instead share useful insights/knowledge for everyone to take full advantage of the new AI normal. Cheers! 🥚

Face Paint: •Full eye black •Diamond eyes
Grime: Coal Miner
Appeal: Hunters Hood (Obtained through Far Harbor DLC) Colonel Coat (Obtained through “Speak of the Devil” Quest-line)
Weapons: •The Deliverer (Obtained during “Tradecraft” quest) •The Problem SolveSplatter-Cannon (Both obtained through Nuka World DLC •Pickman’s Blade (Obtained through Pickman’s Gift” quest)

2024.05.14 04:33 Rice_upgrade Are there widely accepted scientific theories or explanatory frameworks which purposefully ignore conflicting empirical evidence?

I was inspired by this interview of the Mathematician Terence Tao. When asked if he is trying to prove the Riemann hypothesis (Timestamp 9:36 onwards), Tao gave the analogy of climbing, likening certain problems in Mathematics to sheer cliff faces with no handholds. Tao explains how the tools or theories to tackle certain problems have not emerged yet, and some problems are simply way beyond our reach for it to be worthwhile for mathematicians to pursue with the current level of understanding. Mathematicians usually wait until there is some sort of breakthrough in other areas of mathematics that make the problem feasible and gives them an easier sub-goal to advance.
In the natural sciences, under most circumstances when enough empirical evidence challenges a paradigm, this leads to a paradigm shift or a reconsideration of previously dismissed theories. Instances which prompt such paradigm shifts can either be tested under normal science or come as serendipitous discoveries/anomalous observations. But are there cases where explanatory frameworks which work well enough for our applications ignore certain anomalies or loopholes because exploring them may be impractical or too far out of our reach?
For example, I read up about Modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) in physics, which proposes modifications to Newtonian dynamics in order to account for the observed rotation curves of galaxies and other gravitational anomalies without using the concept of dark matter. However, MOND has faced challenges in explaining certain observations and lacks a fundamental theoretical framework. In a way, MOND and most Dark Matter models are competing frameworks which seek to make sense of the same thing, but are incompatible and cannot be unified (AFAIK). Not a perfect example but it can be seen that conflicting ideas purposefully disregard certain anomalies in order to develop a framework that works in some cases.
TLDR: Are there instances in any discipline of science where scientific inconsistencies are purposefully (ideally temporarily) ignored to facilitate the development of a theory or framework? Scientists may temporarily put off the inconsistency until the appropriate tools or ideas develop to justify their exploration as being worthwhile.

2024.05.14 04:31 Fast_Map9044 Developer wanting to eventually get on the LP side

31 yr old in a middle market, 4 years of development experience as an associate for a family owned company. Residential/retail/office experience. We all wear most hats (business plan creation, financial modeling, capital raise, construction management, investor relations, asset management, etc.) but my main role is on the deal making side: finding the deal, creating the financial model, capital structuring, capital raise.
I have an MBA and my end goal is to get on the LP side for a firm. What kinds of roles, next career steps, or skill sets would be helpful for getting my foot in the door?

2024.05.14 04:31 S_A_N_D_ ADC - Gain vs Bit Depth

I've tried googling this but I can't seem to find a good explanation of what "gain" is on an ADC.
For example, I have an HX711 for some load cells. I understand bit depth is basically a measure of resolution. Sort how granular the measurements can be. What I don't understand is what Gain is.
In other contexts, I've always understood gain as being like a threshold level for sensitivity, but I'm not sure if or how that applies here. What effectively am I changing if I set the gain at 64 instead of the default 128, and how is it different from bit depth?

2024.05.14 04:28 carl-the-lama We’ve all seen the grievances with black flash, and I’m here to solve it all

While gege himself has thrown in the towel, I haven’t, so I’m about to break down the black flash and throw in some theories of my own
First up: what is a black flash?
While initially called a phenomenon in which cursed energy is applied to a physical blow within a trillionth of a second, raising the attack by the 2.5th power and having the user enter THE ZONE (120% boost), there are many inconsistencies
As such, I’ll tackle them one by one
First up, the trillionth of a second has been told to us by Gojo not to be the determining factor due to the fact that he can land that timing without getting a black flash
My theory on that is the black flash requires “the soul” to move in tandem with body and cursed energy. Mahito has no physical body other than cursed energy and yet he can land a black flash. This means rather than a physical blow and cursed energy blow overlapping, it very well could be a matter of the soul and cursed energy hitting that allows a black flash to occur
Secondly, the 2.5th power
Many have pointed out that high tiers black flashes should one shot anyone, well there’s a really easy answer to that: non-linear units
Let’s call the units of cursed energy C
Let’s supposed 1 c + 1 c ≠ 2 c, rather it would equal 2x(root 2) for example.
Under the premise that the higher the number the smaller the gap between individual whole values of cursed energy THEN black flash actually makes sense to not be an all powerful attack
3rd: the 120% boost
Many people assume it sets the user to 120%, but we’ve seen this ain’t the case with Gojo vs sukuna and yuji vs sukuna
The 120% of the black flash’s zone isn’t a change in how much you have, rather how much you can do with what you have. It’s explained Gojo regained his RCT by creating a new circuit, and required multiple black flashes to pull this off. If a single black flash set him to 120% he wouldn’t need to create a new RCT circuit
This means that black flashes stack in how they improve the users’ abilities to control cursed energy
In summary: the soul/mind must be a factor in landing black flash, cursed energy uses non linear units, and black flash buffs stack in some form

2024.05.14 04:26 YourHomicidalApe Retirement vs aggressive savings

I’m starting my first full time job with an 80k base salary as a 22 year old. I’ve made a spread sheet of my finances, and looked through the “guide” on this sub to understand how to save. My company does 6% 401k matching which I will definetely take full advantage of, I understand the value in that.
Beyond that, though, how bad would it be to not save the rest of the money in an IRA or HSA ? I want to be able to easily access my savings, for example I might want to start a business at some point, and I want to practice investing my money. My point being, I’m 22 years old, contributing to 401k, I don’t have goals to retire early, I’m ambitious, why should I keep putting my money in things like IRAs where I’m restricted in how I can take out of it and where I can place it? Do I just fundamentally misunderstand these saving plans ?
I have $8k / year that I was planning on putting into my IRA. Can you convince me I should put it into the IRA instead of just aggressively investing myself, with the benefit being I can take it out whenever I want for whatever reason I want ?

2024.05.14 04:25 erythseas Stuck in a rut and doubting this career choice. Advice would be helpful.

I just graduated a few weeks ago from my animation program and just like everyone else no work lmao. Along the way I realized my dream job would actually be in background design/concept, although my profs were actually super discouraging towards it considering it’s competitive nature and tried to gear me towards animating (more jobs for it over here). I still enjoy it, but my heart isn’t in it, and with things being so competitive now I’m gonna be competing against animators way better than me for jobs. I decided to do a post grad certificate in visdev and I’m hoping a year of study focused on what I actually want rather than splitting my focus between every single stage of the pipeline would benefit me. I learn better in a school environment and I spoke to the program leaders and teachers.
I’m wondering if any professionals here have any idea how to detach their self worth from their job? I’m 22 right now, turning 23 and I feel like I failed at a lot. I already took an extra year to graduate. I am looking at working for the art department of my local libraries, and I got positive reception, but it’s not where I want to be. I can’t help but feel so demoralized about my work. I have so much to work on if I want to achieve my goals. At my grad show all I got was helpful, but demoralizing critique. How do professionals beat this? I’m at such a loss.
As a ps, I know a lot of these types of questions get replies such as “show us your portfolio”! I would be incredibly grateful if anyone wanted to look at my work, although, lll ask if I can message it to you so that I can stay anonymous on Reddit. Thank you for understanding!

2024.05.14 04:25 c00chieluvr Walk in the park

MUTUAL contravisms are paradox
Generate altruism - good faith that the divine cosmos sacrifices as much as the divine self for a universally-divine goal
Those who oppose this can still benefit from contravism
However, yangs are now set in plural & are to be energized backwards [inwards] - Bounce, Whum, Dance, & Whistle
Yins are set forward [outward]: Breathe, Stance, Stretch, Worship
Helps tie working backwards theme + [eventual] countdown theme, mayora singular v menor plural, as well as gives the feeling of the self as the nexus [recipient] of these divine paradoxes.
Altruism is generated when the contravisms are approached with a sense of mutuality - altruism as equal to contravism? Setting altruism above contravism provokes an inbalanced dynamic scale.
[[Alt - tiempo as a scale vs as a range]]
Focusing on the mutual activisms blinds one to surrounding contravisms
Four Divinities?
Four divinities created by four harmonies. Altruism cannot be created unless approached with a sense of utopianism. If the "Universe" is the majora Singular, then altruisms would be the menor Plurals.
Altruisms as merits, then, paradox of two divinities interacting is that it will generate altruism. Principles as the mayora Singular & merits as the menor Plurals.
This allows for the "idea" of binary, addressing "two" sides, while ensuring to avoid paradoxes of attainable perfection. In the Real universe, two halves of a whole will never be perfectly alike. Hence the need for one to overarch the other, hence mayora Singular & menor Plurals.

2024.05.14 04:22 actionableadvice20 EXTROVERT GUIDE: ACTIONABLE ADVICE

Extroverts are one of the groups for which people have a love-hate relationship. Some people hate the way a lot of extroverts act but the same people would love the relationships extroverts have. This guide is not to become an extrovert but to become better at socialisation.
Socialisation or having a great social circle is one of the most important things in the world. It is one of the most important things in terms of mental health. I would argue it is more important than something like working out. So this is my guide for Socialisation.
WHO IS IT FOR?
It is for primarily people who are in college, university or school. If you are working this is not for you as all my guides come from my personal way of solving my problems and I don’t have experience with social circles while working a job.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
I would consider myself as an ambivert, I am very middle of the pack when it comes to extraversion traits. I had a problem where I failed 11th class and then stayed at home for 12th class and then covid happened and because of that I spent like 2-3 years at home. And because of that I was super shy and antisocial in the start of college and didn’t try to make friends, but over time I made some great friends where my social circle is more than 10 friends who I like to spend time with, which is very great for me. So this is how I did it.
ACTIONABLE ADVICE:
  1. JOIN A SOCIETY: I don’t know how it works in foreign universities but I live in India and we have different societies in college as well as school like theatre, dance, music, or even things like debate, community service etc. My guess would be that foreign universities also have that and in my experience that has been the best way to meet people both girls and guys and they have things in common with you plus some tasks where you work together.
  2. FIND WHAT YOU ENJOY: A lot of time we tend to just do what our friends do like clubbing, parties etc. But personally I never liked them. My preferences in social settings got confirmed in college and I don’t do clubbing or parties. But I found out what I like to do, which is concerts and activities like bowling, swimming etc. Even in huge social circles I like when there is not too much noise like clubs but where we sit, eat something and talk. So I geared people around me towards things like that. So find out what you enjoy doing and do it with other people.
  3. SAY HELLO: Saying hello to people around you is the easiest way to start a conversation, I mean yeah no shit sherlock, but what worked for me was a framework where I said hello, my name, then asked for their name and acknowledge what we have in common and then build from there. This framework which I build unconsciously tends to work for me.
  4. STOP AND TALK: One last thing which helped me was when I talked to someone once, using the above framework, I then whenever I saw them in college campus stopped and talked with them even if that is for 3-4 minutes and that helped form a lot of acquaintances with many different people.
SUMMARY:
Join a social group or a society, find what social activity you like to do, for example Bowling, Concerts , Say hello, your name, ask for their name, what you have in common and build from there. Stop and talk with people you have applied the framework on when you see them.
Again this is not to become an extrovert but if you follow it you would develop some traits which are usually attributed to extroverts. If you have any review for me tell me in comments.
