2024.05.14 16:33 PIPIDOG_LOL Will My AP CSP Score get canceled for plagiarism?

I have already submitted my Creative Performance Task, and it is a program that helps find words from the dictionary with inputted length and letter combinations, for example, if you input "3" and "e" it will output words like "eat", "red" etc...
Problem is, while I am preparing for the test today, I stumbled across a video discussing a 2021 sample task that got 6/6, and that student have an almost identical program, except that the input for their function is the first letter of the word, instead of the components of words, so if you enter, "3" and "e" it finds words like "eat" "ear" etc. Our interfaces look extremely similar (SOMEHOW) and even some of our variables have the same name (HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE), like wordList, and filteredWordList.
Am I screwed? Will my score get canceled for plagiarism? Because my code is only 28 lines long and their code is probably short as well some of my lines look awfully similar to theirs. I swear to God I did not copy their work.

2024.05.14 16:10 silverspectre013 How do I best prepare for the upcoming application cycle?

Hello everyone! I wanted to ask this to the community because you all have a lot of good advice when it comes to stuff like this. I mentioned on a post a few months back asking what I should do now I’ve been rejected from my graduate schools for English. I wanted to ask now, what’s the best use of my time now? Besides my job, I’ve got a lot of free time to make me and my application the best it can be for the next time around. That being said, I’m open to suggestions!
To the people who were and are English graduate students, and this question also goes to History students as my education also got me a degree in History (emphasis on Ancient History), how did you all best prepare for your (English or History) graduate application? If you would have been given more time, approximately 6 months, what would you do with it? Would you make a new writing sample, simply read more, or something different? Thank you all in advance!

2024.05.14 15:43 AdventurousPack9311 Question regarding ecology data

Hello,
I am a student conducting soil microbiome research and I now have reads/counts of different species and would like to perform some statistical analysis. For reference I have 2 groups of data that can be referred to as test and control samples. I have used a Shannon Index and found eveness using Pielou's J. I would now like to compare the specific species in test vs control data, but I am not really sure if this would be eveness, richness, abundance, or something else.
If I conduct a t-test with the (transformed) counts of control vs test data for specific genera, would that be scientifically correct and/or meaningful, or is there a better way to go about this?
Thank you very much!

2024.05.14 15:25 Thin-Walrus-1512 B School research - do it right!

Hello, folks! As the results of various B Schools have been pouring in, and everyone here is in a mad rush to figure out which colleges want them and which colleges they (should) want, I've been seeing a lot of uninformed (at best) and intentionally misleading (at worst) opinions going around. The problem here is that while I, having wrapped up my MBA journey a while back, am a little more adept at sniffing out the BS than the average aspirant - many others in this journey are understandably quite clueless (as was I back in my day, to the point where I didn't even know about SP Jain till after I joined C!), and often don't know better.
So, how do you navigate these choppy waters?
  1. Always be skeptical on Reddit. Understand that anonymity is a powerful tool - which on one hand can be used to share privileged and even scandalous truths, but on the other hand can also serve as a façade for ulterior motives. So, if you find any particularly concerning posts or testimonials, make sure to run it by a large enough sample space to significantly dilute the ill-intentioned opinions.
  2. NEVER sought subjective opinions from MBA grads and students (e.g., is the consulting culture good? Is the campus pretty? etc.). Always frame your questions to ensure the answers are purely facts and numbers (e.g., how many consulting firms come to campus, and how many folks get placed there? What's the approximate split of green areas to concrete structures, and how many water bodies exist? etc.). Even with your best interests in mind, their definitions of "good" or "bad" may not align with yours, and give you the wrong picture of what to expect there. So figure out what facts and numbers qualify as "good to have" and "must have" across all aspects of your MBA experience (you could even set this up as an Excel matrix), and tailor your questions to fill in the blanks.
  3. NEVER ask current students their opinions on other colleges. They've barely spent long enough in an MBA to know their own college, let alone judge others' - and college tribalism can run very deep. Only ask about college opinions from the current students and alumni of said college, along the lines discussed in point 2.
  4. Target questions to the right audience. If you want to know about placement outcomes and future prospects of a particular college, talk to alumni of said college (preferably those who've spent at least a couple of years in the industry) - anything the current students know is only from the lens of a single placement cycle and hearsay, and their advice might be biased due to their attachment to their college (which diminishes as you gain work ex post MBA). However, if you want to know about things within the campus itself, defer to current students (since alumni may not have the time to discuss those aspects of your MBA journey, and current students would have the most updated info on the same).
  5. Likely goes without saying, but always maximise your sample space for feedback. If you're discussing post-MBA prospects for college A, try to talk to at least 5+ alumni - if you can get feedback from 8-10 alumni, you'll have a rich source of consistent data that isn't tainted by subjective experiences or individual biases. Likewise, for internal matters reach out to as many current students as you can, for the same reason.
I know all of this will take a significant effort (esp. points 2 and 5), and time isn't really a friend of yours at this moment - but the only way to eliminate ambiguity and biases is to hedge against them as proactively as you can. Remember, the only person here with a vested interest in your wellbeing is YOU, so look after yourself. Rest assured, though - this protracted effort now will be worth it's weight in gold for the rest of your career :)
All the best to everyone out here (current and future aspirants alike), and feel free to comment or DM if you'd like to take the conversation further. Cheers!

2024.05.14 15:09 jedge01 Baymax and E Coli: an update

Baymax and E Coli: an update
So after our local vet gave us our boys E Coli diagnosis, and treatment plan, we took the weekend to digest all the info we could find. Nothing looked promising. I took some initiative, and called the NC State University Vet School Dermatology Clinic.
I explained the situation and diagnosis, and the vet student I was talking to conferred with her mentor, and it was decided they would see Baymax without a referral, and just a couple of days later. We held off on ordering the Amikacin.
They took great care of us, spoke to me for about an hour, then examined and ran tests on him for another hour. In the end, the dermatologist does not believe, even a little bit that E Coli is involved here. She believes this is an allergic reaction, it's just a matter of figuring out to what.
We're starting with trying new food, trying samples of Royal Canin and Purina Hydrolyzed foods, to see what he'll eat. Then we'll go with that for a month and see how he does. We're also changing delivery methods for the antibiotics in the ears. While we're still using Posatex, instead of giving X drops, we're using syringes and squirting a given # of milliliters in there.
In a month we'll go back and see what comes up. We're just excited to not have to make him take needs that will almost certainly make him deaf, even though we're keeping in mind anything given via his ears could make that happen.

In the landscape of assisted reproductive techniques, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) emerges as a transformative method, providing hope for countless couples grappling with fertility obstacles. In India, IVF has emerged as a beacon of reliability for those longing to start a family. This procedure involves the intricate fusion of eggs and sperm within a laboratory environment, fostering fertilization under controlled conditions. Subsequently, these embryos are cryopreserved until the opportune moment for transfer into the woman's uterus.

How long is the IVF process, and what are the step-by-step procedures at our Thane clinic?

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) stands as a beacon of hope for couples in Thane, especially when traditional methods prove insufficient. Dr. Rita Modi, acclaimed as Thane's leading IVF expert, supervises the intricate process at our IVF services in Thane clinic. Let's delve into the step-by-step IVF procedure and its timeline in detail.
Initial Consultation: Embark on your IVF journey with a personalized consultation with Dr. Rita Modi, a seasoned IVF doctor . Here, she thoroughly evaluates your medical history, discusses fertility concerns, and tailors treatment options to suit your needs.
Ovarian Stimulation: The process begins by stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Over 8-14 days, hormone injections are administered to encourage follicle growth, closely monitored through ultrasound scans and blood tests.
Egg Retrieval: Once the follicles are mature, the egg retrieval process takes place. Under sedation, eggs are delicately retrieved from the ovaries using a thin needle guided by ultrasound, a procedure typically lasting 20-30 minutes.
Sperm Collection: Concurrently, on the same day as egg retrieval, the male partner provides a sperm sample, or in certain cases, earlier sperm retrieval procedures are conducted.
Fertilization: In the laboratory, retrieved eggs are fertilized with sperm using conventional IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Embryologists meticulously oversee the fertilization process, which spans 16-20 hours.
Embryo Culturing: Embryos are cultured in a controlled environment for 3-5 days, undergoing cell division. The highest-quality embryos are then selected for transfer.
Embryo Transfer: Typically, 3-5 days after egg retrieval, the chosen embryos are transferred into the uterus in a swift, painless procedure without anesthesia.
Progesterone Support: Post-embryo transfer, progesterone supplements may be prescribed to bolster the uterine lining and embryo implantation.
Pregnancy Test: Approximately 10-14 days following embryo transfer, a pregnancy blood test determines the outcome, with a positive result indicating successful implantation.
Pregnancy Monitoring: Upon confirmation of pregnancy, regular monitoring and ultrasound scans track fetal development.
The duration of IVF varies for each individual, influenced by factors such as ovarian response and embryo development. Typically, a single IVF cycle in Thane spans 4-6 weeks from ovarian stimulation to pregnancy testing.
For couples seeking fertility solutions in Thane, Dr. Rita Modi offers comprehensive IVF services clinic in Thane, encompassing personalized treatment plans and compassionate care. 2024.05.14 10:13 Cadillac-Blood Book recommendation - The Dark Side of Skin by Jeferson Tenório

Hi all! Hopefully I chose the right flair.
I just finished reading this book and I just need to share it someone.
Jeferson Tenório is a black Brazilian writer and his romance The Dark Side of Skin provides a very good insight into racism in Brazil, especially in the south of Brazil (the whitest part of the country with... questionable ideologies). It's fiction, but the topics are very real. I had to take breaks between reading sessions because it got to me so bad. So not a light read, but the way Jeferson is able to place us in the character's skin is MASTERFUL. This book got Brazil's equivalent of the nobel prize for literature and it shows.
The book is written as a "letter" to the protagonist's father, a school teacher who was assassinated by the police. The protagonist tells the father's story and by doing so constructs an entire biography of life in Brazil as a black person.
I recommend this book to any non-Brazilian interested in understanding how racism plays out in another country. And for Brazilians, I recommend it especially because it has seen attempts from politicians to ban it from schools' reading list. This is how I found out about the book. Politicians are using the sexual scenes within the book as excuse, saying it's too erotic, in an attempt to censor discussions on racism from schools.
I would be so happy if they fail and students are exposed to the reality of black Brazilians. And I would be very happy if the author got support and the book got more visibility.
I read it in original Portuguese, but an English version (as the title of my post shows) and even a Mandarin and an Italian version are available. The book isn't long. Please give it a look!

2024.05.14 08:29 Dull_Acanthaceae6147 What the hell happened to this company (and what other ESL company values teachers like VIPKID *used to*)?

Anyone who worked at VIPKID *before* the 'restructuring' might have noticed how much the company has changed.
In the past, account suspensions were rare (in fact, I never experienced one until 2023), while now, they seem to hand them out like candy for the most trivial of reasons (and almost always due to STUDENT/PARENT-SIDE issues that are blamed on the teacher - even when presented with contravening evidence).
Obviously, such heavy-handed punishments (suspensions seem to last anywhere from a week to a month) help no one when they are (as is almost always the case) the result of 'unrepresentative' petty grievances, misplaced anger, or even acts of God (such as rare and unscheduled internet outages/unforeseeable IT issues).
When teachers are 'punished' for any reason other than negligence, it becomes an 'authoritarian' exercise without constructive lessons to be learned, and with no benefit to either the complaining student/parent, company, student population (and LEAST of all the teacher - who often remains the ONLY injured party).
VIPKID claims that these policy changes are in support of students - but given the arbitrary nature of the complaints, I feel 'indulge' is the better word.
The question is - what is the REAL reason the company culture changed so drastically in devaluing its teachers?
What caused the shift in attitudes from supportive, to abusive and hostile?
As I said earlier, pandering to an unrepresentative sample of toxic complainers can only indulge the *extreme* minority at the expense of the majority (regular students become annoyed when being deprived of their favorite teachers).
So, I don't buy the 'business' angle.
Lastly, are there any ESL/Teaching companies out there who actually *VALUE* teachers while treating them with *DIGNITY* and *RESPECT*, rather than as a piece of toilet paper, fit only to be used and discarded?

2024.05.14 05:58 moemoe0725 AITA to tell a coworker to stop spamming me on Snapchat

Tldr is at the end...This is from when I was in University when Snapchat was huge, and minor details that don't affect the story been changed so I don't break my NDA.
While in university I (20F) worked a internship. Every semester (4 months) they hire 8 students to work this internship and they are picky about who are hired. Criminal record checks, meet certain academic requirements, interviews, references etc. Those who come out of the internship can basically get any job within this field after they graduate.
The students are assigned to different processes of certain cases and we work under some well season professionals in this field.
There's a girl, Ashley (not her real name, 20F). I know of Ashley because a friend from a previous internship is friend with her.
Ashley joined us 1 and 1/2 week after everyone's start day because she had previously planned a vacation to see some basic white people music artist's concerts in the other side of the country.
She got everyone social media first day she was here and she seem generally normal. It was a little annoying to get her up to speed, but in a week she was able to work her part without too much direction from the rest of the students.
After the week of catching her up, she told the office she's going to the other side of the country to see the same artist's concert but in a different city. And she will leave in 3 days. She didn't tell us how long but she said it won't be long because the artist is only playing 1 show at that city.
While she was gone the professional are constantly bugging us students about the progress of the cases. We always have to tell them, that Ashley handles those part and she's away. After 3 weeks of Ashley being gone, the manager came to us students and ask us why we haven't finish theses things and learn that Ashley caused this. The manager decided to teach me and another student how to do Ashley part so we can get on with the cases. Ashley was gone for another 2 weeks after this.
Halfway through this internship, the school send someone to check in. I did my interview with the school representative and when I finished she ask me to get Ashley. I told her that Ashley isn't in, she's following some artist in the other side of the country. The rep was surprised to learn that and she said something along the lines of "she said her grandfather died, she should be back now"
All the student interns are very annoyed at Ashley because she's basically never here and we have to do so much more because she wasn't around. When Ashley came back, she forgotten all the processes and didn't even know the name of the professional she's partnered with.
So Ashley would just nap in the file room and not work. She will constantly bug me and the other students on how to do certain things and when the professionals ask why certain things aren't done or she did them wrong, she'll blame that we didn't teach her that.
In this internship we developed a little tradition where the students get lunch together on Wednesday, but it's not mandatory. One of the Wednesday when Ashley came to work, we all went to get dim sum together. Ashley said she don't eat meat for religious reasons so she will join for chatting but don't want to pay and had food in her cabinet. We thought that was fair enough as dim sum usually have some meat elements in them. Ashley proceeds to eat a fair amount of dim sum. Some of them, containing meat, even though we told her that there's meat in it. She said "it's okay because I'm just sampling it." and ordered 2 Cokes. I can't remember what the bill came to but we all have to chip in extra cash because Ashley "didn't really eat anything" even though you can see the chicken feet bones on her plate. She proceeded to make us accommodate her religious meatlessness when we pick restaurant for Wednesday lunches, thankfully she was barely in the office so it wasn't too big of a deal.
A little more time goes on and it's the last month of this internship and the student is trying to wrap up their cases to pass on to the new batch of students. Usually students need to sign an NDA about the stuff we did in the internship, and shred the copies of sensitive documents we keep in our cabinet.
Without telling anyone, Ashley just flew to a different country. Leaving all of us in a panic because without Ashley signing the NDA and her key to open her cabinet, the whole department can be liable to some serious trouble. The manager literally told us to contact Ashley anyway we can , so we can get Ashley back to sign the NDA and open her cabinet to see if there's anything we need to shred. Since I had Ashley on Snapchat, I told her that the manager need her back for this procedure or else we'll all be in big trouble. She told me that she won't be back in the county for another month cause she's following that same artist. And I told the manager that, and the manager just told us to do our part.
Since the day that I contacted Ashley on behalf of my manager, she been snapping me every single day. About her fancy latte, her front row seat of the concert, her hair being funky etc. While the rest of us students has to panic about the potential legal issues we are in and making up for the work she was supposed to be doing.
The day the internship was over, Ashley was as usual spamming me with her basic b latte in front of the concert venue of her basic white people music artist, and I sent her a message on Snapchat. "Please stop snapping me, I don't want to know about this concert anymore" She replied, "OH I'm sorry, I was just hitting reply all on my snap every time I post" and she never contacted me again.
A few months has passed, and I heard that she had started to talk behind my (and all the other students) back to anyone who'll listens, and made our mutual friend from the previous internship to cut me out of their lives.
Am I the asshole for telling her to stop snapping me?
Tldr: Am I the asshole to tell a coworker who missed half her prestigest internship to follow some music artist's tour and ate a bunch of food on everyone's dime to stop spamming me about the tour while everyone is trying to make up for her missing work.

2024.05.14 02:55 JoNightshade These kids deserve so much better.

I subbed for a high school special ed class this afternoon (half day). The class had about 8 kids and two teacher's aides. The teacher had left a math video for the kids to watch and then a couple of pages of sample problems for them to work through.
One of the TA's got up and said "Okay, let's work through the first problem together!" and proceeded to demonstrate what I can only describe as "extreme incompetence." This was basic long division and she literally didn't even know how to correctly subtract large numbers or what 2x16 was. (She said it was 42, and when one of the kids said it was 32, she said "Well, I'm not gonna give you all the answers! You figure it out!") She did the entire division problem incorrectly on the board. Then she told the kids to let her know if they needed help and proceeded to sit down and have a snack and look at her phone without checking on them once.
The other TA spent the entire time playing video games on her own computer. Not like "candy crush" but like World of Warcraft or something. She would occasionally shout something like "I'll mention you in my therapy session today ha ha!" to the kids.
I went around and tried to help the students - now thoroughly confused by the TA's example - to get the math straight and kind of figure out what to do. But honestly I just came out of that class so depressed. These are the students who need the greatest amount of help, and THESE are their teachers? They're clearly just showing up for a paycheck. Clocking in. No attempt to actually teach anything.
And this is the school I'm supposed to be sending my kid to next year. Ugh.

2024.05.14 00:13 a_lexus97 Does anyone know how to find m/Q using AMDIS?

TLDR: Can I find m/Q ratios of unknowns using AMDIS??
Hi friends! I'm a biology PhD student who has been given a stack of GC-MS data completed on a machine that is older than time and asked to analyse it using AMDIS (which is also older than time but literally the only option). Long story short someone majorly goofed and the samples and alkane standards are very messy, some are entirely unusable. To try to salvage something, I've been told by a chemistry prof to find the m/Q ratios for my unknowns, except that has proven to be an impossible task. I can't find it anywhere in the manual for AMDIS and its not anywhere that I can find in the program itself (either that or I just don't know what I am doing which is highly possible/likely). So people of reddit, please lend me your expertise and help a confused student out.

Biography

House Massey, along with many neighbouring houses, were quick to join Aegon’s cause and pledge their support during his conquest. Coren Massey, the Lord, had wed a Valyrian woman named Alysanne Belaerys, and had two children by her.
Beatrice was only two years old, and her brother only a boy of five when the Conquest began. Their father and uncle would ride out with their armies to support his cause and would find themselves roosting in his court for the next few years and assisting the construction of King’s Landing. It wouldn’t be until after Aegon’s assassination that her uncle, Triston Massey would take over as Master of Laws.
Tragedy would strike the Massey’s during the Kingswood Hunt, where Triston would fall victim to the attacks by the bandits and would perish.
Coren Massey, her father, would spend much time in King’s Landing, constantly seeking—and failing to secure his brother’s position as Master of Laws. Arthur would spend much time in the new capital as well, though not in court. He would carouse the town, often spending times with other lords and ladies of a similar age, hosting parties or tavern crawls, or hunting expeditions. He established a network of contacts and conversationalists throughout the years there, a gossip-mill that he could turn to his own ends—amongst nobility and smallfolk alike.
Beatrice’s story was much different. As her father and brother left Stonedance to seek greener pastures, much of it resided on her. When she grew up, her family had secured tutors to teach her and her brother skills of administration and governance—though Arthur never took to them, often skipping out on his lessons. Beatrice on the other hand made it her life’s work, studying a variety of subjects. One gift her mother had given her was a tutor from Essos, to teach her the Valyrian tongue both for eventual use in court, and to connect with that part of her heritage.
When she turned ten and seven, she began to take in children from around the Crownlands and a few from lands beyond that, offering to teach them in various disciplines such as arithmetic, history, geography, calligraphy, and literature. This, combined with her duties of running and managing Stonedance, kept her busy and rarely leaving the hold, while her brother, the heir, caroused through life.
At twenty, she was arranged to marry Dorin Sunglass, however the betrothal fell through when he married another—to her relief.
Arthur would sire several bastards, that she would keep track of and it became her responsibility to care for the mother’s left behind and the children he wanted nothing to do with. A cook, a maid, a sailor—Beatrice kept track of them as they came to Stonedance with their children in their arms, offering them gold and a place in the village. Most notably was his fling with Perra Bracken—while the Blackwood’s and Bracken’s geared for war, the two had a tryst in King’s Landing which resulted in a child, Arina. Taken back to Stonedance to raise, Beatrice would tutor her and send letters of progress to Perra, but otherwise both of the parents of the bastard would be uninvolved.

2024.05.13 22:19 AdAppropriate7838 2nd year ELEC experience/overview

Wasn't able to find one post that summarized 2nd year ELEC before I did it so I thought I'd make one. This is my personal opinion and an average student's perspective (sometimes even below average lol). 2nd year is a lot of mixed opinions about everything.
You want to have MATH 101, PHYS 158, APSC 160 and MATH 152 completed before starting 2nd year. Standardly you'll be taking 39 credits in the winter session. Although it's very common to take fewer (in fact I'd recommend it) credits.
Term 1 looks like: ELEC 201(4), CPEN 211(5), MATH 253(3), MATH 256(3), CPSC 259(4). Term 2 looks like: ELEC 202(4), ELEC 211&MATH264 (3), ELEC 221(4), ELEC 281(3), ELEC 291(6). You could take MATH 253 in the summer before 2nd year, take ELEC 281 before 2nd year after you've been placed in ELEC or also take it the summer after 2nd year. Utilize your summers to complete as many complimentary studies, free, impact requirement electives as you can. There is an option to take ELEC 291 in the summer after 2nd year as well but I wouldn't recommend that as it's a very time consuming design course and I've heard it's run differently in the summer and isn't as worthwhile in terms of what you learn.
ELEC 201: One of the harder courses in term 1, isn't very time consuming but isn't easy either. First time you'll be giving WebWork exams so the average is low but you'll be fine. Do the homework and attend class. I took it with Alireza Nojeh who was a good prof. Lectures were very organized and he writes and explains everything as he goes which is nice. Isn't scaled or scaled very slightly. Practice the WebWorks and lecture notes and also follow Linares's YouTube channel regardless whether he teaches it or not. Difficulty: 3.75/5.
CPEN 211: Hardest course in term 1 imo. Very time consuming, especially the labs, which would sometimes take entire weekends and eat time out of other courses and aren't even worth 2% each. So find a good lab partner. There's a lot to cover so be up to date. Although the lectures aren't very helpful. I'd suggest keeping up with the slides and making notes and GOING TO ANY TUTORIAL AND LECTURE where he/the TAs solve problems. Took it with Tor who teaches it almost every year. Too much content to be covered in lectures but he is helpful in office hours/after lectures. Do as many problems as you can find and try and understand every concept. Difficulty 4.5/5.
MATH 253: One of the easier courses in 2nd year. In a non-ideal situation can be done in a short time as well. Easier compared to MATH 100 and 101. In math practice is very useful so try and do as many problems be it before the exams or throughout the term. The course is taught online so is easily procrastinated but Professor Leonard and Alexandra Niedden on YouTube are very good resources. Took it with Mark MacLean who is a GOATED math prof. Clear communication from him about what's expected and needs to be done. Difficulty: 2.5/5
MATH 256: Easiest course in 2nd year imo (partially because of the prof). Cannot be done in a short time but is easily followed throughout the term. As usual practice is key. Took it with Neil Balmforth who is also GOATED. He makes the course much easier, the other section didn't have as nice of a time. His midterms and finals were basically identical to the sample midterms and finals. Difficulty: 2/5
CPSC 259: It's a much more theoretical than APSC 160. The only nice parts were the labs because they were coding and not theory. The quizzes and final were mostly theory and on PraireLearn so limited attempts (usually 2) which made the tests very very hard. Took it with Geoffery Tien who usually teaches it. He's a nice guy but okayish at teaching. Very monotonous. I read the textbook and did it's problems which really helped. Difficulty: 3.5/5.
ELEC 202: A hard course but Linares makes you spend so much time on it, it doesn't feel as difficult as the other courses by the end. Another course graded by WebWork so marks aren't easily obtained. Make sure you understand all the WebWorks, TopHat and questions from the slides. Linares imo is one of the best teachers I've had and is very knowledgeable about EE. But his personality takes a lot away from him as a professor. This course will solidify a lot of basics for you, some that you might have overlooked in 201 but they way he runs the course does make it unnecessarily time consuming and challenging. I'd say do take the course with him regardless of the horror stories, you'll be glad you did later on but be ready for having a weird time in this course. And yeah follow his YouTube channel like your life depends on it. Difficulty: 4/5
ELEC211 & MATH264: These 2 are run together as a one 3 credit course ELEC 211(2) and MATH 264(1). I pretty much had to do this course on your own. It isn't very time consuming but the term that it's in and the way it's taught will make it feel challenging. Took it with Carol Jaeger who taught the 211 part and Professor Demirbas who taught the 264 part. I don't mean to be rude but both were basically useless. I don't know if Professor Jaeger tried to teach because I stopped going after a few weeks that's how bad it was. It felt like she was just there because she has to be. For Professor Demirbas the way he teaches was very weird. Read a few nice things about him but didn't have the same experience. He speaks and teaches too fast for anyone to be able to learn anything but that might be because they're making him teach most of a 3 credit course (MATH 317-Calculus IV) as a one credit course in about 6-7 lectures all this along with a theory driven electromagnetics course. I'd recommend watch the last 4-5 lecutures of Professor Leonard's Calc III YouTube playlist right in the beginning of the course. That'll cover the MATH portion. Then follow the math lectures to practice and use that math you learnt to understand the ELEC portion. Wasn't able to find a goof YouTube resource for the ELEC part but just watch a bunch of different videos for each topic I guess. WebWorks are good practice. Difficulty: 4/5 (should've been 3 but the way they run it).
ELEC 221: A hard course depending on your proclivity for mathematics. It's a whole lot of new concepts so it's reasonable it'll be difficult. If the concepts of Fourier Series, Laplace Transforms (also in ELEC 202) and Differential Equations that you learnt in MATH 256 are really clear, that'll help. Took it with Joseph Yan who is a very kind and helpful person, but he just refuses to teach for some reason. He'll ask you to watch 1 or 2 20-30 minute videos before the week and the lectures will basically be a slideshow of previously annotated slides from a few of years ago and him just repeating "any questions?" without really explaining anything. His pre-week videos were helpful but they were only there for the first part of the course. I'd say watch his videos that are there. The examples in his slides are good for theoretical understanding and WebWorks are good practice for exams. Difficulty: 4.25/5
ELEC 281: It's a technical communication course, supposedly like WRDS 150B. Dropped it, taking it in the summer will update this here once I've taken it.
ELEC 291: Probably my favorite course from 2nd year. You actually get a sense of what it might be like being an engineer because this is a project course and you do hands on work. You get to work in teams which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. The only downside is it'll eat up A LOT, sometimes ALL of your time. First of all there are 6 labs that are due weekly which can take anywhere from 1-6 hours, depends on the amount of debugging you need to do. There's 2 projects which are much bigger than the labs. You have to spend a lot of time (can't put hours because I couldn't keep track even if I tried to) on the projects. There's no studying but a whole lot of doing. Professor Fraga is very helpful in the lab. Right course, wrong timing. Difficulty: 5/5 (60% because of the time it takes and 40% because of the actual work).
Hope this helps! Again these are just my opinions and everyone has a different experience. Let me know if anyone has any questions or if you feel I wrote something that isn't a valid description.

2024.05.13 21:10 rpkat [F4A/M] Mafia Romance

Hi there! I’m 26, central US timezone, and female!
SAFE FOR WORK ONLY.
Message me with your age, timezone (US Timezones Preferred), what plot idea you’re interested in, and a sample of your writing!
Partner requirements: must be 22-38 - Must play male (IRL gender doesn’t matter)- write in third person - at least two paragraphs - decent grammar and punctuation- must be able to post once a day to every other day. Communication is key, please let me know if you are going to be busy for longer than a day or two or if you are no longer interested. No asterisks for actions. Dialogue should be in quotations. NO AI ART OR WRITING.
I’ve been craving a good enemies to lovers roleplay for awhile now and what’s a better enemies to lovers roleplay than something revolving around the mafia?
Plot idea #1: Your character has recently taken over the family business. My character is a college student on a study abroad trip that happens to see something they weren’t supposed to. Y/C’s men that were handling the deal take her back to the main ‘headquarters’ and keep her locked up, leaving Y/C to deal with her.
Plot idea #2: Your character is in a small gang that is tasked with kidnapping the naive daughter of a mob boss that stole money from another. Basic idea, can be fleshed out more together.
Plot idea #3: your character would be a police officer that’s gone undercover with some small local gangs to bust a couple of drug dealers and whatnot. Having done such a great job there, he is offered a bigger mission and if he takes it, when he returns to his actual station, he will get a bigger raise, new car, K-9 unit, some sort of special thing that he’s been working towards. This bigger mission would be infiltrating a bigger mafia family that seems to be running all these smaller ones. Thanks to some forged documents, lies spread around, and some of the actual dirty work he has done over the last six months, the head of the family invites him to a nightclub to chat. The chat leads to the offering of a position within the family, a personal bodyguard for the mob bosses daughter after the situation that happened with her last one. It’s his first break through and they’re welcoming him with open arms. Does he accept?
