I'm in the process of transforming my gaming rig into a media server using Unraid, and I'm aiming for an optimized and robust setup. I’ve updated the build with additional storage components and configurations. I'd greatly appreciate your feedback on the build and any advice you might have!
Current Build:
Goals: - Utilize OBS and a capture device to back up and restore old family 8mm and VCR tapes, preserving these precious memories digitally. - Employ DaVinci Resolve for editing videos, including community podcasts that will be recorded with a full-frame mirrorless camera, enhancing the quality and engagement of local content. - Archive family photos from old picture collections to safeguard these historical images and make them easily accessible. - Host a Plex server and utilize a Blu-ray drive to convert my collection of Blu-rays, enabling easy streaming and access to my media library from any device. - Host my own AI model, such as Llama 3, leveraging the video card to handle AI tasks and computations efficiently.
I am currently running windows and would like to convert it to a VM. I have looked into the process and I believe it will be possible to get it running in vm. I would appreciate any suggestions or feedback to my plan. (My writing is subpar so I employed an AI to help me with the post)

i have a evri courier who has not delivered my parcels to my house for the past week, every single one he has taken a picture of a random house with a random parcel and said it’s been delivered, this has lead to me losing a £80 parcel and 2 others, i don’t think it’s lost either he’s done something to it or god knows honestly. i don’t know why he’s doing this? genuinely it’s confusing me so much, i had to knock on all my neighbours door opposite me and they’ve all said they only have their own parcel or they’re in a similar situation. my neighbour 2 doors down knocked on my door and said the evri courier has just delivered her asos parcel somewhere randomly on our road but took a picture of someone else’s door and parcel.
i have contacted the company i’ve bought from and no response other than “an investigation” will happen to see if it’s been delivered. evri are as shit as can be and have no humans to contact. this is seriously concerning as i’m now losing money, not only that i’m a online seller and some of those items were to sell and i have no idea what he’s done to them. i’ve ordered another item with evri shipping so as soon as he marks as delivered i can quickly come out of my house and confront him. the guy needs to lose his job and find something he can actually do properly, but has anyone been in this situation before? what happened?
and no i’ve never had a issue with evri, don’t have any pets, always answer my door and say hi, thank you! so genuinely don’t know what his problem is.
sorry it’s long but this has been stressing me out majorly for the past 8 days.

What I mean by freezing is that everything I was doing comes to a hard standstill, my sound stops, NOTHING responds, as if I'm looking at a picture. So, I have to manually restart my computer.
To provide a bit of context, I initially believed I had resolved this issue a few months ago when it first occurred. Initially, it occurred every couple of days during low-demand tasks like watching YouTube or browsing the internet. Then, one day, it would freeze either upon startup or shortly thereafter. I hard reset my computer by initiating safe mode (if I recall correctly), pressed the small BIOS button on my GPU, and even purchased a new CPU liquid cooler. Additionally, I disassembled my entire setup, cleaned out the dust, reorganized components, and ensured all connections were secure. For a few months, my PC operated without issues until today when the same freezing problem recurred.
Memtest86: PASS all green OCCT Tests (1Hr)- All tests passed
Does anyone have an idea of what is going on?

There’s this quote from the movie ratatouille that always comes back to me whenever I get too vitriolic with my criticism of any media.
“In the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism deeming it so.” – Antoine Ego
Of course criticism is valid and this shouldn’t hinder us from doing it, but if you really think about it, us critics, especially internet critics, just sit back and spew nonsense about “bad writing” and “media Literacy”, when most of us have never even attempted to write a story.
Why do I say this?
Just to preface some thoughts I had about Dear anemone, a manga that is on its way to getting axed in shonen jump almost certainly. Lots of threads on the series talk about poor writing, and bad choices, that’s all fine….but I thought instead, lets take the perspective of the mangaka for a second….and see how our criticisms might seem from the perspective of being a mangaka in Jump.
What prompted this was the report that Rin matsui had deleted mentions of dear anemone on his own twitter account, which really hit me. Something about his art not even being recognised just made me feel sad.

The sheer stress of being a mangaka …..ie….why Bakuman probably romanticized it.

80-100 hour work weeks at the very least to pump out 20 pages, constantly being evaluated by rankings you are given access to after finishing, needing to adjust to the whims of an audience who articulate their grievances but probably know nothing about art and storytelling.
I couldn’t do it. Most cant. This doesn’t require sympathy on its own merits…. lots of jobs are hard, but goddamn must it be stressful.
Most reading this are either familiar with or have watched or read bakuman. Much of our knowledge of how shueisha works comes from this series. Some of it is outdated, much of it apparently true, but regardless…it establishes much of our “insider” knowledge of being a mangaka.
Details aside, the difference between bakuman and reality is that it is a story…obviously. But because it’s a story, we know that there is going to be a happy ending, a catharsis. He will get the girl and write the manga that becomes an anime yadda yadda. Hardship is character growth, narrative setup. Real life is not so kind….you might fail and never succeed and have your dreams taken away from you.
Lets paint a picture.
Rin matsui is in his early 20s. He does a one shot for dear anemone, while he is an assistant on my hero academia. He looks forward to his big shot and gets it. It a battle horror manga, not a common genre. He gets to serialization. His dreams come true…he is in shonen jump.
He gets the ranking back the next day or so, ( we only have the toc to go by, not an exact rank, and this is assuming the 7 week rule applies somewhat) and he ranks relatively low. A death sentence almost from the start. People online see the first ranking(much later mind you so he has to wait months knowing its coming) and scream DOA. It should have done x or y or would have worked in a seinen magazine. Weve heard all the arguments. They are blase at best, often repeating the same thing.
Maybe he frequents sites like 5ch and 2ch, and sees people ripping it apart by the second chapter. Talking about the similar looking characters, and meandering plot, and lack of intrigue. “God some of those criticism online are pedantic and infuriating, even if they have a point” is what I would think if I were him. Im not him though.
Heres some context as well. Rin matsui is doing the artwork with ink and paper, not digitally. He chose to do absurdly detailed art this way when most others in the magazine use a computer. Some might call this stupid, some might be more impressed….but the few weeks he missed his page counts make sense in light of this. Most people don’t know this though.
And then you have to hear people calling you “lazy” or “not ready” online.
And of course, by his second or third week, he was probably already aware he was likely getting axed…even if it wasnt official yet. Actually imagine what it must feel like to write a story knowing you have already failed by the time you just started.
I Couldn’t do it.

“Good” Criticisms of Dear Anemone….or why being constructively critical is hard unless you know what you are talking about.

Being a mangaka is hard in another sense. It is technically hard. You have to be good at both Art and storytelling.
Most people can spend a lifetime learning art or storytelling, let alone both. Mangakas have to be competent at both disciplines, and combine them as well. Novelists can focus on just their writing, artists on their form and composition, but no….a mangaka needs to know both.
Which is why criticism can often seem misinformed, disingenuous and cynical to the point of being useless. Here are some fancy schmancy “critical thoughts”
“Dear anemone has a fascinating premise that invokes the terror of nature to create a visceral tone of body horror rarely seen in Jump. However, it doesn’t leverage this premise very well after the first chapter, ditching its horror elements and becoming a traditional battle manga by the second chapter. Moreover, its characters lack interesting motivations, are hard to distinguish from a visual perspective and even though the art is stunning, it can be hard to track what is happening at times.
It sets up mysteries and intrigue, but resolves many of them a few chapters in, undermining the strength of its own premise. In Terms of plotting, it seems to just drag the protagonist along on events rather than him having agency in the plot, and the lack of characterisation for the side characters amplifies the degree to which this feels like marionettes being led by a storyteller, rather than an organic character led tale.
A few interesting twists were introduced later on, the other characters were also hybrid creatures, which explains perhaps why they were underdeveloped at first, maybe this is now a battle royale….. but the twist came too late. The problem is there is no sense of overarching narrative progression. We reached the lab by the third chapter, spent a few more there introducing antagonists instead of fleshing out main characters, and then got the data we were looking for in the most anticlimactic way, which did nothing to change the complexion of the plot. Imagine if the basement in attack on titan was this uneventful……”
Where is this criticism from?
Well….its mine. If I am doing this exercise I might as well be self- critical. This sound fine and dandy but really pay attention to this criticism. Its nothing original, it’s just fanciful speech reiterating points others have made but consolidating it into one passage.
What is actual constructive criticism? Its criticism as a form of kindness…that tries to meet a work for what it is and yearns for it to be the best version of itself. Its not like the passage above… a cynical kind of distanced critique that pretends to understand narrative and art. Instead…. it has humility. To do this you have to have empathy yes…but also insight, genuine literacy at art and writing. That passage written by me, is frankly useless. Junk not worth the effort put in by Rin matsui no matter how many issues Dear anemone has.
And this only really hit me when I saw he removed mention of dear anemone from his twitter.

“Im sure they will come back in the future, and I look forward to their next work!”

How many times have we heard this platitude? The fact that its true doesn’t make it less platitudinous, but regardless, this is how most threads compassionate about the hardship about being a mangaka go when news of an axed serialization comes out. We saw it with mamayuyu, phantom seer, red hood….rookies trying to make it big and that have talent, but just lacked that special something to make things click.
This isnt a pity party, im sure they wouldnt want it either…. this is what they signed up for. There is a three strike rule apparently, again another piece of “knowledge” from bakuman. And it does happen, Horikoshi from MHA only struck it big on his third serialization. People grow and change and hone their craft.
But we can just say this, they have to actually go out and do it. Face the circus again when they had a failed serialization. This takes guts in itself. Fusai Naba came back with Kyokute Necromance after aliens area within 2 years ….a quick turnaround. What is he met with?
“Its too soon, his writing is still mediocre, not another damn exorcist manga(I’m guilty of this), the lead character doesn’t stand out, the plotting of the first chapters is a little dry, it was boring, its tries too hard” etc etc
Yet he still came back and is facing the music, choosing a safer theme which makes sense, and is on twitter happy he is back, and even heralded as the author of aliens area. It wasnt pushed under the rug. We call it axed, but shueisha doesn’t actually frame it that way, it was just a completed serialization. The series has fans ….pretty good for “failed art”

The Spirit of an artist

I’m not going to be so pretentious so as to presume to be able do the kind of critique any artist deserves, but in an optimistic twist of fate, right after a time skip chapter that usually signals a mangas inevitable end(into a bizarre alice in wonderland esque twist ….what are you cooking mr matsui?), Rin Matsui tweeted about dear anemone again.

And so all I can hope for with dear anemone and Rin Matsui is that he recognize his own talent. Yes I can say I hope he comes back, and I look forward to his next work, and he improves at his craft, but more than that….I hope dear anemone is acknowledged for what it is…with all its flaws. Art isnt just a product, it’s a process….a living testament to the blood, sweat and tears an artist puts out into the world that documents a journey only one person has ever been through. I don’t know whats going through Rin Matsuis head….but all I can say is that his work is more meaningful than the words we use to critique it ever will be.
I hope he sees that too.

Hey! My grandpa had this red, maybe an 80's, Kawasaki. We had to get rid of it as well as an old Katana he had (i think... I remember the katana as a classic naked bike, air-cooled, maybe 4 cyl, could've had over a 1000cc, black paint with red and yellow striping, i dont have any pictures of it if anyone recognise the bike i described id be very thankfull if you told me, i remember it as very cool), anyways i don't have any more pictures than this old one with me and grandpa, screwing on something. The bike was red, i think it had sport fairings, double seated, if i remmeber it correctly it had a 600cc like sound.
Ive searched over the seven seas and continents... and google to find these 2 bikes, but google doesnt understand my description and my memories might mess with me..
Almost every red 80's kawasaki reminds me of grandpa's, but one specific detail I've found on the picture is the rear passenger handle, it looks like a sportscar wing but no other bike has that...
If anyone recognise these bikes id be greatful!

I am male, 27, 160lbs, 5’9”
Hello - broke my clavicle and doctor recommended surgery to prevent weird recovery and subsequent pain playing sports / general aging poorly (I’m 27). The plan was to get a metal plate inserted to straighten out the bones and ensure they heal properly.
I am allergic to nickel. I told this to at least 5 people leading up to the operation, 3 on the day.
I am completely knocked out and in the OP when the doctor realizes the metal plate includes nickel. He makes the call to not insert and simply maneuvers the bones to be better situated to heal properly.
So…what the hell??? How did it take until I’m unconscious on the operating table to make sure the surgery can be successfully executed?
It’s also no guarantee now that my bones will heal correctly, and I’m also not sure that surgery was even required if the metal plate wasn’t in the picture?
I may have to pay thousands of dollars for a surgery I didn’t really get (or need)?
Doctors - is there a lack of competence here? Do I have to pay? Was surgery necessary? I’m just…trying to understand what the hell happened.

One concept about the nature of the alleged UFO cover-up is that there exist quasi-governmental/quasi-corporate based clandestine cells sometimes described as “the control groups.” According to this proposition, these secret networks are keeping a lid on the UFO challenge by working behind the scenes to maintain what has been called “the UFO truth embargo.” This has involved a sophisticated psychological warfare program directed at the population in the form of a de facto policy of ridicule and denial.

In a vision I had in Carlsbad Cavern, I saw the Earth as being like a beautiful woman that was full of life and proud of her creations. Our mother, the Earth, has the capacity to regenerate life on her surface despite the onslaughts of many epochs of extinction. This has been true in the past and will continue for hundreds of millions of years.

The Protestant reforms that reflected the growing strength of business classes in combination with the scientific revolution created a new kind of society. In that pluralistic environment the Church fathers could no longer dictate their "truth" to the masses. In the former Soviet Union, it took just 70 years for a police state regime to fall apart. Unfortunately the Putin regime has reestablished many of the controls that existed under communism.
Our civilization is probably facing an existential crisis in the form of global warming and resultant climate change. Young people all over the planet are realizing this and they are starting to march demanding action. On social media pages I have posted articles discussing my assessment that an ET presence would threaten the rich and powerful, but not the Earth’s peoples. If this analysis is correct, then how might our rulers protect themselves?

One concept about the nature of the alleged UFO cover-up is that there exist quasi-governmental/quasi-corporate based clandestine cells sometimes described as “the control groups.” According to this proposition, these secret networks are keeping a lid on the UFO challenge by working behind the scenes to maintain what has been called “the UFO truth embargo.” This has involved a sophisticated psychological warfare program directed at the population in the form of a de facto policy of ridicule and denial.

Given that these control groups have also been working to reverse engineer UFO technology for over seven decades, it is conceivable that they have made significant advances. I am suggesting here that the alleged ETs might want no things as well, placing them beyond the control of the ruling classes.

From my understanding of the spiritual teachings of Eckert Tolle, consciousness is no thing. It is an awareness that allows us to be awake and be aware that we are awake. It is infinite in its scope and universally experienced but can’t be defined by words. The ego however can be defined. According to Tolle it is a mind structure that is obsessed with form, both material things and thought forms. Identifying with form compels the ego to enhance itself by always wanting and sometimes getting more. For many of us this means more money, fame, sex, and for the ruling classes more control over others.

What happens when more of us reject this plane of existence that the Buddha reportedly called "the nightmare of the day”? What happens when millions of us say the message of oneness that is promoted by all the major faiths applies to what for many appear to be technologically and spiritually advanced ETs operating here on Earth?

Well, I imagine you get a change in the mass consciousness that could facilitate getting rid of the control groups and the oligarchs that they serve. "Peace on Earth and in the Cosmos!" can be the slogan to link the UFO presence to achieving planetary unity based on principles of peace and cooperation. In my opinion, this can only happen when we embrace universal consciousness. In a vision I had in Carlsbad Cavern, I saw the Earth as being like a beautiful woman that was full of life and proud of her creations. Our mother, the Earth, has the capacity to regenerate life on her surface despite the onslaughts of many epochs of extinction. This has been true in the past and will continue for hundreds of millions of years.
We are not destroying the planet. In a sense this notion is yet another expression of our incredible hubris to proclaim that we can. She will do just fine in the long run. Transportation to the city centers will all be underground, and recycling and reuse will reduce the level of pollution and waste to a minimum.


Alas, this is only one possible future and as Joe has pointed out, the future is changing all the time. So, let's be determined to work towards what was seen in retired Sgt. McMoneagle's remote view. Let's link the message of peace, environmental protection and social justice to a phenomenon that is inspiring a growing number of contact activists to celebrate sisterhood and brotherhood extended out into the Cosmos.

I have been posting this blog periodically for several years and I believe you are the first to ask "how such a radical transformation might occur?" Successful evolutionary movements typically achieve results over long periods of time. The tyranny of repressive ideologies, such as forced onto the masses by the feudalistic Catholic Church in Europe, was worn down by a series of developments that spanned centuries. The Protestant reforms that reflected the growing strength of business classes in combination with the scientific revolution created a new kind of society. In that pluralistic environment the Church fathers could no longer dictate their "truth" to the masses. In the former Soviet Union, it took just 70 years for a police state regime to fall apart. Unfortunately the Putin regime has reestablished many of the controls that existed under communism.
Our civilization is probably facing an existential crisis in the form of global warming and resultant climate change. Young people all over the planet are realizing this and they are starting to march demanding action. The problems we face cannot be solved by nation states, so some kind of just world government will hopefully replace what UFO Researcher Stanton Friedman called "the tribal warfare" waged by "Earthlings." I recently switched back to Windows after being on Mac for about 6 years, and it's been an adjustment... The 32GS95UE does fill that void surprisingly, for me, the built in speakers were a big deal too because when I edit photos (photographer) I prefer to have music playing and I've just never been a fan of excess wires -- try to keep a clean look at all times. Speakers have a great sound, do wish for a little more bass and treble, but that's personal preference. The big base that the monitor sits on is nice for storage, or putting accessories underneath. The adjustable height helps too, typical gaming monitors are a fixed height and just was never a fan.
Screen size wise, it's the right size for productivity and gaming -- thin bezels, and nothing that takes up space -- however, I do wish that it was glossy because I feel that it makes everything POP more like the C2/C3 brothesisters -- I do have an LG C2 tv and I think it's fantastic, I'm just left wondering why they didn't make a monitor or a line of monitors that had the best of both worlds. Matte is kind of an adjustment if we're being honest -- I see they were trying to avoid reflections.
LG C2's menu is honestly simpler to navigate, and a lot more features to go through -- even at a price point of $1,399 -- where's the remote? Why don't we get a remote? A little odd if you ask me. No reason that the OLED TV menus GUI couldn't have been a little more incorporated rather than just a basic joystick menu -- it would have been nice to have seen a hybrid merge of both.
Color, brightness, contrast are all good, but will need to be tailored towards each own's personal preference -- I'd say out of the box it's probably about 80% were it should be, but going in and adjusting is what will give you a good end result too. Color, tones are very true to life and are accurate.
HOWEVER... to be getting 4K @ 240hz AND a 0.03 ms response time is LIGHT YEARS ahead of what most consumer monitors are doing at the moment, and the 480hz @ 1080p is just flat out amazing -- if you run MSI Overclock with your games, you will have a BLAST -- I was literally dropping 60-70 kill games on Modern Warfare 3 yesterday -- plus tweaking Nvidia settings you can probably get close to 400 FPS on minimum settings too.
Having Displayport and HDMI 2.1 are a nice combo however, I feel like HDMI 2.1 might be the winner for better audio and picture... but again, personal preference. There's a minor difference between the two, but no lag or even stutter when using either.
Bottom line and final thought, is the monitor worth it?
Is gaming for ONLY desire for this monitor? Then no.
Do you want to work on a monitor and not have to fidget with gaming settings / reset your resolution back each time? Or do you want to work, then watch content? Then this monitor is for you.

On social media pages I have posted articles discussing my assessment that an ET presence would threaten the rich and powerful, but not the Earth’s peoples. If this analysis is correct, then how might our rulers protect themselves?

One concept about the nature of the alleged UFO cover-up is that there exist quasi-governmental/quasi-corporate based clandestine cells sometimes described as “the control groups.” According to this proposition, these secret networks are keeping a lid on the UFO challenge by working behind the scenes to maintain what has been called “the UFO truth embargo.” This has involved a sophisticated psychological warfare program directed at the population in the form of a de facto policy of ridicule and denial.

Given that these control groups have also been working to reverse engineer UFO technology for over seven decades, it is conceivable that they have made significant advances. The extreme secrecy concerning such breakthroughs might have created what UFO historian Richard Dolan has called “a breakaway civilization.”

In 2017, a new openness on this subject has been allowed by elite power concerning this potentially destabilizing issue. This started with corporate media revelations about a secret Pentagon project studying UFOs. Since then, former, and current government officials have confirmed the reality of what are now called UAPs. Full disclosure of information about flying saucers is not what is happening. Instead, there has been an intensification of what non-human intelligence analyst Grant Cameron has called the US Executive Branch’s “gradual acclimatization program.” This involves allowing a mixture of some accurate information as well disinformation on this still highly classified subject to be released publicly. The gradual acclimatization program according to Grant Cameron’s analysis has for decades existed in parallel to the coverup.
Corporate, military, intelligence and political power brokers don’t operate as one on this issue. Different factions struggle over the speed at which the limited disclosure will unfold. In my opinion, as stated above, this issue, at the most basic level, still threatens all terrestrial elites, but not the Earth’s peoples.


Why do might the rich and powerful oppose an ET presence? The following are just a few of the reasons.

1.What we call flying saucers can apparently fly circles around “top gun” jet fighters, thereby showing the military to be impotent in securing terrestrial airspace.

  1. During ancient times the so-called aliens may have played a role in establishing all the major faiths. If the masses of believers on our planet started to accept this possibility, then it would threaten the power and influence of organized religion.

3.Alleged ET “free energy” generating/propulsion systems if downloaded into our technological culture under conditions of world peace would threaten the largest industries on our planet, the empires of oil and coal.

  1. In my opinion, the rich and powerful take great efforts to maintain a self-image that is an illusion of strength and invulnerability. An extraterrestrial presence could certainly challenge this self-image and the very concept of human sovereignty.

YOU CAN’T CONTROL AN ET THAT WANTS NOTHING

But what makes the control groups most afraid I suspect is that if UFOs are controlled by ETs, the alleged aliens don't seem to want anything. They often simply appear in the sky for a few moments and then disappear. This behavior transmits the simple-minded message, “Hello, we are here."

ET beings, as far as we know, are not engaged in mining operations on Earth. They don't play the stock market to get rich. They usually flee when approached by military jets. Their interactions with humans occur under conditions of secrecy. The so-called aliens come to us often at night. Our interactions are predominately mental and typically when we are alone, thus little objective documentation can be acquired during the close encounters.

THREATS OF VIOLENCE, BRIBERY, AND BLACKMAIL DON’T WORK WITH THEM.

From the “control groups” point of view, I imagine that the alleged ETs appear to be immune to the usual bag of tricks that the super-rich use to keep the rest of us in line. Maybe the “ETs” scare the control groups because unlike politicians they can't be bribed or blackmailed. It is hard to shoot down UFOs and they don't seem too troubled by all the bad publicity they get from Hollywood alien invasion fantasies.

Several people have approached me that they might have endometriosis. Lifelong warrior so thought I would share my tips and tricks I put together for my friends and family to share with you :) Hope this helps someone!
ENDOMETRIOSIS SURGERY FACTS
ENDOMETRIOSIS LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY (WHAT TO EXPECT)
PRE-SURGERY
POST-OP PREP
SPACE PREP
  1. Make sure your bed or couch is prepped. I stayed on the first level for the first 2ish days before feeling well enough to stay upstairs.
  2. I used a pregnancy pillow on the bed to help me stay on my back while sleeping and help you feel cozy.
  3. Stock the house with foods that will be light for your stomach. Think soups and casseroles! Saltine crackers, broths, rices etc..
  4. If you have a raised bed, get a step stool to assist. It’s best to sit on the side of the bed and slowly lay your upper body down while bringing your knees up and over to your back. You will need to use arm strength the first couple of days to get you up and over since you can’t use the abdomen.
  5. Water and Beverages stocked at all times. I have a reusable water bottle and avoid carbonated beverages for the time being. They fill you with gas for the procedure so it may make those symptoms worse.
  6. Netflix, Kindle, Puzzles, Craft Projects…visits with friends. Whatever makes the time pass, set it up ahead of time so it’s handy.
  7. Items to Keep on Hand: Baby Wipes, heating pads, pads/diapers, candles, essential oils, things that smell good haha
BOWEL PREP
This is dependent on the type of surgery you are having, but its good to have Gatorade, Magnesium Citrate (liquid), laxatives and enemas on hand just in case you need these.
ON SURGERY DAY
It’s important to follow the instructions on what to stop taking and/or eating/drinking prior to the surgery. Wear comfy clothes (wide elastic waistband) and slides with cozy socks. Double check your to go bag and breath.
AT THE HOSPITAL
  1. Do your check-ins and keep your people with you as long as you want.
  2. Make sure to read all the consent forms and ask any questions upfront. Make any advance directives clear.
  3. Just try to remain calm as there’s a lot of down time while they do intake. It is about 2 hours of prep before they bring you in for the surgery itself.
  4. They will ask you the same questions over and over again, that’s normal and trust me, you want to confirm it’s all being done properly.
  5. If you need something for anxiety, they will be sure to give you something if you ask :)
  6. You will be wearing a gown, socks, funky underwear and a cool hair net haha wear the gown backward so you keep warm and keep the butt covered.
  7. Vitals will happen and the anesthesiologist will come and speak with you to make sure they prep the right meds beforehand. Bring up any concerns here with them!
  8. You may be wheeled or walked into surgery. I’ve only ever walked in and laid on the table myself.
  9. They will then put the IV in your arm and sometimes will put on a mask, they will then ask you to count backwards and before you know it, you will be awake again!
RECOVERY
ENDOMETRIOSIS MAINTENANCE
Here’s the tips and tricks I found helpful for maintaining my pain and symptoms (GI and back pain related):
  1. Pelvic Floor Therapy: This is important for keeping the muscles in your pelvis healthy and strong to maintain your structure and also help manage pain. Consult with your doctor on whether this is right for you.
  2. Physical Therapy: I do PT for my back and pelvic floor since it’s all related. We focus on Myofascial Release Therapy to help break up the adhesions and give me more mobility. This helps with temporary pain relief (reduction in number), but that is always welcome :)
  3. Acupuncture: I swear by Acupuncture. I don’t know what it does or why, but it works. It’s not a cure by any means, but it's great for relaxation, fertility, digestion, endometriosis, sleep, etc.. I can go on, but it’s not covered by insurance plans all the time so you will need to check and see what you’re able to take on.
  4. Diet/Exercise:
    1. Eating high protein, lower fat/carbs (not none just low) helps your body, but overall learn your trigger foods! This will go a long way.
    2. Ginger, turmeric and fennel all help with bloating. I like to drink them in tea form when I’m feeling particularly hard stomached as it’s a good natural way to decrease the bloat. Peppermint also works for some, for me it irritates my GERD.
    3. Chamomile for relaxation
    4. Walking and movement are important. I cannot do anything high impact due to my sacroiliitis diagnosis, so I stick with light yoga and walking.
  5. Alcohol/Other Substances: Don’t do it. Don’t touch it. You’ll thank me later on this point.
  6. Sleep: Insomnia is a very real thing. I think I went 2 or 3 days at its worst one time and I cannot say enough how important trying to keep the same sleep schedule will benefit you. Waking and sleeping around the same time each day will still feel exhausting but at least you know your body is getting the most sleep it can get.
  7. Medications/Supplements:
    1. Ibprofuern: This does NOT work for me. I have GERD and ulcers so I cannot take NSAIDs, but with that in mind, NSAIDs are supposedly the best pain medication over the counter to help you manage it.
    2. Pain Killers: These are AS NEEDED. I try to refrain and leave these for the TRULY bad days which I try to spread out. Not even worth it sometimes, because I don’t like how I feel and sometimes vomit after taking them. But they do help the pain!
    3. IUD/Orilissa: An IUD will NOT do anything. If you are diagnosed, ask your doctor about Orilissa or similar medicines instead of birth control methods. This will not stop the growth, just suppress it. There are side effects and it is only a short term solution.
    4. Linzess: This worked well for me for constipation symptoms when they got severe. Definitely recommend bringing this to your doctor if you’re truly suffering and they have not yet mentioned. I also resorted after trying magnesium citrate
    5. CBD Lotions/Salves: For my pelvis, I use Healing Rose CBD Salve in Orange and Lavender (https://www.thehealingroseco.com/product/orange-lavender-with-chamomile-herbal-salve-300mg-cbd/). For my back, I use a medical grade CBD lotion with menthol (https://cbdclinic.co/clinical-strength-series/). I also use a CBD massage oil from Healing Rose of the same scent when doing myofascial release at home. I also use Somedays Cramp Cream (https://somedays.com/products/period-cramp-cream?variant=42062153842853).
  8. Heating Pads and Ice Pack: I have several varieties of heating pads. A cordless travel heating pad (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FPTJL4G?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details), a plug-in heating pad (lhttps://www.hsn.com/products/pure-enrichment-purerelief-xxl-heating-pad-with-9-cord/22188460) and stick on patches (https://www.thermacare.com/ - I use the back patches but reverse them to the front for better coverage). For hot flashes and night sweats (also if you need to relax while anxious) place an ice pack over your chest to help cool or calm down.
  9. Self-Care: No joke, massages, facials, epsom salt baths, sound baths, reiki….anything that you find relaxing. Do it. Try it! They also make CBD bath bombs Ive been wanting to check out.
  10. TENs Machine: I really want one, don’t have one, but people swear by them (the heating pad linked to MyObi has a TENs version - https://myobistore.com/en-us/collections/my-obi-belts/products/apollo-2-0).
  11. Pregnancy Pillow: This one sounds so lame, but I bought a pregnancy pillow for my first endometriosis surgery since I’m a side sleeper to help keep me on my back during recovery.   12. Heated Blankets/Cozy Blankets: Make yourself feel better with a cozy blanket. Do it, I dare you!
  13. Endo To-Go Bag: Includes heating pads (travel, plug-in and patches), medications, balms/salves, essential oils and pads/protection items, change of clothes, wet wipes.
  14. Sex Life: I’m single, I don’t have a partner to worry about communicating this issue with at this point, but go slow and communicate given eventually this will have to be a conversation. What I have learned is that if you do have sex and feel pain. Immediately stop! If you associate sex with pain mentally in that moment, it may cause fear in doing so down the line so it’s best to stop the moment you feel any pain occur.
  15. Work Life: I work a demanding job so it was not working with the appointments and care I needed to manage pain. Always get FMLA from your doctor for intermittent leave based on your company's policies. This protects you from flare-ups and appointments. Short Term Disability is based on your situation with work so talk with them about any leave of absence for surgery and recovery and ensure the medical providers fill out the paperwork appropriately.
  16. Friends/Family: This one is the worst. I have to cancel and make plans all the time based on how I feel. I like to line up a bunch of plans for three months out and do my best to make them happen at the beginning of the month when I know I’m most likely to feel good. I just say I’ll make things up to them when I get better and those who have stuck around have been truly amazing friends, but don’t be upset that some might be over the day in and out of what you’re going through. It’s hard for you and sometimes others and it’s just a part of the relationships we’re meant to experience in life. Most people (unless they have endometriosis) don’t understand it so it can feel isolating, but there’s others out there who know what you’re going through and are willing to chat. Just gotta find them and reach out on social media, online etc..
  17. Journaling Symptoms: Guilty of not being the best at this always, but it's good to track your symptoms to see how they work and operate. It helps not only you plan for it, but also your doctors in how best to handle your care. Take photos of things that make sense to show your doctors! Discharge, bowels etc..can sometimes help diagnose or judge with the images.
  18. Next to Bed Kit: Make sure your nightstand is stocked with the essentials for your bad days. Makes it easier to access the items you need when you just can’t get up and get it.
  19. Squatty Potty: Another thing that is majorly life changing on constipation days! Get one or you can make your own :) Take a stack of books and stack them at equal heights on each side and put your feet up. The trick is making sure you’re in a squat with your knees high to your ears.
  20. Clothing: Dressing for this is key but you still want to look cute! Joggers with a stretchy waist are my go to pants, but wide leg trousers with a stretchy waist help with ease of removal but also comfort and brings some style to the look.
  21. Pads: I wear Always Discreet vs. pads. I find when you need to wear them full time for incontinence it just makes it more comfortable. They have different cuts and styles so definitely check them out!

Several people have approached me that they might have endometriosis. Lifelong warrior so thought I would share my tips and tricks I put together for my friends and family to share with you :) Hope this helps someone!
ENDOMETRIOSIS SURGERY FACTS
ENDOMETRIOSIS LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY (WHAT TO EXPECT)
PRE-SURGERY
POST-OP PREP
SPACE PREP
  1. Make sure your bed or couch is prepped. I stayed on the first level for the first 2ish days before feeling well enough to stay upstairs.
  2. I used a pregnancy pillow on the bed to help me stay on my back while sleeping and help you feel cozy.
  3. Stock the house with foods that will be light for your stomach. Think soups and casseroles! Saltine crackers, broths, rices etc..
  4. If you have a raised bed, get a step stool to assist. It’s best to sit on the side of the bed and slowly lay your upper body down while bringing your knees up and over to your back. You will need to use arm strength the first couple of days to get you up and over since you can’t use the abdomen.
  5. Water and Beverages stocked at all times. I have a reusable water bottle and avoid carbonated beverages for the time being. They fill you with gas for the procedure so it may make those symptoms worse.
  6. Netflix, Kindle, Puzzles, Craft Projects…visits with friends. Whatever makes the time pass, set it up ahead of time so it’s handy.
  7. Items to Keep on Hand: Baby Wipes, heating pads, pads/diapers, candles, essential oils, things that smell good haha
BOWEL PREP
This is dependent on the type of surgery you are having, but its good to have Gatorade, Magnesium Citrate (liquid), laxatives and enemas on hand just in case you need these.
ON SURGERY DAY
It’s important to follow the instructions on what to stop taking and/or eating/drinking prior to the surgery. Wear comfy clothes (wide elastic waistband) and slides with cozy socks. Double check your to go bag and breath.
AT THE HOSPITAL
  1. Do your check-ins and keep your people with you as long as you want.
  2. Make sure to read all the consent forms and ask any questions upfront. Make any advance directives clear.
  3. Just try to remain calm as there’s a lot of down time while they do intake. It is about 2 hours of prep before they bring you in for the surgery itself.
  4. They will ask you the same questions over and over again, that’s normal and trust me, you want to confirm it’s all being done properly.
  5. If you need something for anxiety, they will be sure to give you something if you ask :)
  6. You will be wearing a gown, socks, funky underwear and a cool hair net haha wear the gown backward so you keep warm and keep the butt covered.
  7. Vitals will happen and the anesthesiologist will come and speak with you to make sure they prep the right meds beforehand. Bring up any concerns here with them!
  8. You may be wheeled or walked into surgery. I’ve only ever walked in and laid on the table myself.
  9. They will then put the IV in your arm and sometimes will put on a mask, they will then ask you to count backwards and before you know it, you will be awake again!
RECOVERY
ENDOMETRIOSIS MAINTENANCE
Here’s the tips and tricks I found helpful for maintaining my pain and symptoms (GI and back pain related):
  1. Pelvic Floor Therapy: This is important for keeping the muscles in your pelvis healthy and strong to maintain your structure and also help manage pain. Consult with your doctor on whether this is right for you.
  2. Physical Therapy: I do PT for my back and pelvic floor since it’s all related. We focus on Myofascial Release Therapy to help break up the adhesions and give me more mobility. This helps with temporary pain relief (reduction in number), but that is always welcome :)
  3. Acupuncture: I swear by Acupuncture. I don’t know what it does or why, but it works. It’s not a cure by any means, but it's great for relaxation, fertility, digestion, endometriosis, sleep, etc..
