Many turbulent waters have passed under a very narrow bridge these past three days. We feared fear itself on a different level and experienced some of the biggest stress we have in a very long time. We were locked almost 24 hours (20 minutes of open-out time on Monday and Tuesday).
Considering that most of us don't eat the prison rations, we hungered and thirst greatly. At some points food and water became scarce in the entire yard. Bread was completely unavailable and treated and packaged water was spent. All sellers sold out within the first 20 minutes of opening on Monday. Since there was nothing entering or leaving, by Tuesday afternoon, no food or water could be found at any cell or anywhere within the yard.
Remember, the first news of an imminent search came on Saturday night (Day #354) and we did an emergency hiding of our phones. We were all scared and restless, the hiding wasn't safe, we only hid anywhere that looked like something could be put in it. It was already late when this info came and we were all already locked in and couldn't, well, go out, so we only did our hidings within and around. During the day, the following morning, we used our phones until locking time before the hiding began again and stretched into the night. (I'm talking about Sunday evening/night now).
I sent mine along with the accessories to the workshop for safekeeping while others hid theirs in many creative ways. Officially, cells collected their phones together in a plastic bucket and holes were dug within the blocks and they were buried. This was done under the cover of night.
COs opened our cells and instructed us to do it and make sure no contraband remained in any cell as this would always bounce back on them. They didn't want that and so had to aid us. The external search party that came was directly from the nation's capital (HQ of corrections) and were therefore superior to any officer in this facility. Even superior to the state comptroller of corrections. It was a pretty tense situation for us inmates and as well for them COs.
On Sunday night, I slept quite well after we'd hidden our phones and stuff, mine in the toilet at the workshop and others majorly buried in the ground inside blocks. Early in the morning on Monday, when the search was to begin, was when we had the most anxiety. The cells and blocks were just too troublingly quiet. I mean it was so quiet it was deafening, literally. Like a pressure built up in my two ears and everything paused and people moved in slow motion, kind of quiet.
Suspense. Suspense. Suspense. In the morning, before they eventually showed up, we were dying of suspense. Being fortunate as a result of the positioning of our cell, we have a window that can see a greater part of the yard, as well as the main gate far up front. For this morning, everyone wanted to stand at that window and mount the sentry. Thump, thump, thump our hearts thumped and silence remained deafening.
Finally they started trickling in with swag after some waiting. Big, mean looking dogs pulled by big muscled, mean looking COs, were in front, and came charging in. These hellhounds looked as though they had a score to settle with the inhabitants of this hell and would tear them and their abode apart if they got the chance. They didn't!
I'm talking Monday morning now.
Some dramas unfolded that wouldn't permit the hounds to have their fun. What happened was that immediately the search company entered, they turned left and began marching to Back Cell. This is the place where the hardest death row inmates are kept. So, as soon as these condemned guys knew they were coming, they let out such demonic shouts that rent and vibrated the previously unsettlingly quiet atmosphere, cursings and threatenings of stabbings and stranglings, and forced feeding the intruders their overnight shit defecated into plastic containers, echoed.
Such terrible roars their shouts were. The other two blocks, besides Back Cell, where death row inmates are kept, on hearing their fellows, also joined in on the bawl. As Back Cell shouted one thing, it was picked up by the other two blocks, rebounded and volleyed back into the uttermost parts of the prison. They sort of formed a shout transmission triangle.
This development was psychological, calculated and halted our unwanted visitors dead in their tracks. Men who were as good as dead had told them they weren't wanted and would have their deaths fast-forwarded if they advanced further. Their march now paused, they had no choice but to think deeply about all the possible options. To be sure, the losers would be them if they chose to engage foolishly. Dead men have nothing to lose, you know?
After much consideration, the company put forward the Chief of the yard and the resident Deputy Comptroller of Corrections (DCC) to go reason with their dead men. They did and the men told them the only thing they could promise them was deaths if anyone dared to step beyond their designated buffer zone.
Back Cell won. The company then had to send their war dogs out of the yard and adopted a more friendly mien all in a bid to diffuse tension and tone down aggressions. I would say it worked because the shouts died down and the next death row block they turned to cooperated and the search began.
They were very thorough and took a lot of stuff but surprisingly very few phones (already buried, yo!). Knives, belts, bottles, electric stoves and kettles were all taken. Gold blings of all types and serious cash were found and confiscated from the rich blocks. Contrary to expectation, the workshop where my stuff was hidden was searched. I died immediately they marched in there and remained dead, though walking around, until the next day. Not knowing if they took my things was harder and more torture than if they'd actually taken it and I knew immediately. I suffered for hours.
My block wasn't visited until Tuesday. By this time, the searchers were already spent and the aggression had left them and returned to their HQ (lol). The tendency to be dicks and bullies had fizzled out, now they were too nice. I needed to check if I hadn't woken at the Four Seasons somehow for how civil they were.
Tell you what? Technically, they didn't search our cell. As soon as the searchers arrived at our block, our cell being the first, they gathered in front. One got very close to our gate and codedly asked that we arrange money and give him so he wouldn't search us and we did. Turns out only five of the company were the ones allowed into the cells to do the actual searching and he was the leader of the five.
Having slipped money into his hand while we were moving out, they merely made a show of searching the bunks closest to the gate where their colleagues and Superiors stood, but took nothing out even if it was an exhibit. They didn't touch the bunks deeper inside at all. We were made to sit on the ground in front of our cell while they did their thing inside. After a while, they came out with only two laughable things and declared to their boss that our cell is clean (lolz, the money we gave them was equally clean).
Actually, why it was like that was that Authority didn't want us to be searched at all but had to do it to fulfill all righteousness. The DCC told them if they don't search everyone, fighting would break out. The people searched and their things seized would cause trouble. So they only came to our block not to search but for show. Our block has the most impeccable record of any block and our cell stands out of any cell in the block for good behavior.
I later understood that the search was originally targeted at the death row guys at Back Cell, Blocks One and Two, and B block. Other places searched were only as a matter of necessity to serve as cover and to even things out and not hurt already hurt feelings. Principally, it was that transgender in Block Two that singlehandedly attracted and brought this search upon us. He was using his phone recklessly on social media, doing live videos and shits. The extent of his popularity gave his actions a lot of visibility and a lot of powerful people saw it, hence the searchlight fell on prisons.
When it was all over (Tuesday evening), they opened us for only 20 minutes to stretch our limbs but that was just all we needed. Everything buried in the ground was uprooted and I got my phone from the workshop as well. Belts and other things followed later. Hunger and thirst was tough on us these few days. Honestly, prison would be unbearable without our phones, many of us found out during this period. I rest my pen for now.
Tomorrow is Wednesday and normalcy will return. I'm almost thinking: why go through all that trouble for nothing? I may as well have had my stuff tucked away under my bunk and be safe. Anyway, better safe than sorry.

My observations about the new additionsWizardLM-2-8x22B I used the imatrix quantisation from mradermacher Fast inference! Great quality writing, that feels a lot different from most other models. Unrushed, less repetitions. Good at following instructions. Non creative writing tasks are also better, with more details and useful additional information. This is a huge improvement over the original Mixtral-8x22B. My new favourite model. Inference speed: 11.81 tok/s (iq4_xs on m2 max with 38 gpu cores)llmixeBigWeave-v16-103b A miqu self-merge, which is the winner of the BigWeave experiments. I was hoping for an improvement over the existing traditional 103B and 120B self-merges, but although it comes close, it is still not as good. It is a shame, as this was done in an intelligent way, by taking into account the relevance of each layer. mistralai/Mixtral-8x22B-Instruct-v0.1 I used the imatrix quantisation from mradermacher which seems to have temporarily disappeared, probably due to the imatrix PR. Too brief and rushed, lacking details. Many GTPisms used over and over again. Often finishes with some condescending morality. meta-llama/Meta-Llama-3-70B-Instruct Disappointing. Censored and difficult to bypass. Even when bypassed, the model tries to find any excuse to escape it and return to its censored state. Lots of GTPism. My feeling is that even though it was trained on a huge amount of data, I seriously doubt the quality of that data. However, I realised the performance is actually very close to miqu-1, which means that finetuning and merges should be able to bring huge improvements. I benchmarked this model before the fixes added to llama.cpp, which means I will need to do it again, which I am not looking forward to. Miqu-MS-70B Terribly bad :-( Has lots of difficulties following instructions. Poor writing style. Switching to any of the 3 recommended prompt formats does not help. [froggeric\miqu] Experiments in trying to get a better self-merge of miqu-1, by using u/jukofyork idea of Downscaling the K and/or Q matrices for repeated layers in franken-merges. I've already opened up this issue with my TL and CTO during our 1:1 and was told they understand me just fine and that they're happy that I do my job really well, however, I feel it still holds me back to become better at what I do.

Background: I solely use my main cell phone number (area code 415), and completely disregard my watch's native cell # (random new area code).
Samsung: With numbersync activated for my cell # between my AT&T Samsung phone and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, when my Samsung phone is powered off, I can still receive SMS msgs on that main 415 phone number on the watch. These text msgs sync with the phone eventually both ways (in theory-- sync isn't perfect, but not focused on bugs now).
Apple: I've read in a few places that when the iphone with the main number is powered off, your numbersync'd apple watch will not receive SMS's that were sent to the cell number . So in my use case, where I power-off my cell phone while I go for a run, or on vacation when I want to worry about keeping just one device charged and turn my phone off, I wouldn't receive texts on my watch. Recently discovered the E90 BMW’s and I’ve taken a liking to them—I’ve been hunting around online, and this FB marketplace 2007 328xi with ~170k mi for 3k caught my eye. Also has a manual + the cold weather package I’m looking for.
The catch is that the car cranks but doesn’t start, and is throwing two codes according to the owner: P1055 and P0341. Did some research and some people say that the voltage regulator on the alternator needs to be replaced, others say that it could be the Valvetronic motor that needs replacing. A BMW scanner is needed to actually tell what’s going on with the P1055. The P0341 is the camshaft position sensor, may need to be replaced. I’m a little skeptical that those are the only problems because shouldn’t those only cause a misfire? My theory is that the P1055 overvoltage fried the electricals of the car but that may be a stretch.
I don’t plan on buying this specific car at the moment but I’m curious your opinions on N52’s like this in general that need some work done.
I don’t have much mechanical experience but I’m very willing to do the work myself and plan to invest my (6-7k) budget in the car + preventative maintenance. The plan is to make it my daily, especially because I enjoy the extra work it takes to make these reliable. So in our reservation system, you can either make multiple reservations separately or simultaneously. Oftentimes making them simultaneously is the option that makes the most sense. You only need to get the guest’s personal information and CC number once as opposed to however many times. There is, however, a quirk with this shitty reservation system that’s started happening in the last week. When you make multiple reservations simultaneously, you have to send the confirmation emails individually. And when you do that, for whatever reason, the system lists the total for ALL the rooms on EACH confirmation email. So if each room is $100 and someone has three rooms, each confirmation email will show one room, but the total on each of them will show as $300. Might be enough to make you go, “wtf? That ain’t right.” and call the hotel, right? Totally understandable. And those phone calls involve the guest explaining the problem and asking why the total for all the rooms is showing for each individual room. And I politely explain that making multiple reservations simultaneously produces that result in the automated emails, and I assure them that each room is still the same price. And they say thank you, they appreciate the explanation, and we say goodbye. Pretty simple, right? A shitty bug in the system, but it’s not our fault, and it’s not our hotel’s fault. It’s the reservation system itself. The call this post is about is, what, the second call I’ve had about it, though apparently my GM was already aware of the issue earlier in the week and didn’t say anything until I brought it up. Of course.
So this lady calls me to make two reservations over the phone. Okay, no problem! I make them simultaneously and send the emails. She calls back, and she explains the issue. I have been fortunate enough to be invited to an interview for a role that I am extremely excited about. It's a technical role, for which I believe I am well qualified for, and the interview will consist of a face to face interview and a case study test afterwards. I am currently employed, but this is a fantastic opportunity to progress in my career.
I have been given the details for the manager of the team who will be conducting the interview and was wondering if it might be worth contacting them to both confirm my attendance, thank them for the opportunity and also ask if there is anything in particular I need to focus on in term of preparation for the interview? I appreciate that managers tend to be extremely busy, and causing more work for them might not be seen as a positive!

I am having a heck of a time figuring out my conversion options (term whole) for my current Transamerica Super Trendsetter 15-Year Level Term Plan, and any help about what the boilerplate in this specific plan says would be appreciated. My goal is to convert it as close to the end of the convertibility period as is safely possible, in order to pay the lower term premium while I can, without triggering the need for another medical check-up/physical.
I asked my agent about convertibility and he said that they are typically convertible for 5 years after being written. I wanted to be sure so I called Transamerica and the rep said it's convertible for the whole 15-year term. With this discrepancy, I asked how to request a copy of my policy be emailed to me, since I couldn't find it in the customer portal. Prior to building a relationship with a "real life" agent, I originally bought it online through an online 3rd party broker (PolicyGenius) and never received a physical copy -- I'm a pack rat with vital records, auto/home records, etc.! I requested my policy online and they sent me a confirmation of insurance. Not good! Then I called and they sent me a form that I either needed to fax or mail in with a $25 check. I initially faxed the form in a couple months ago... nothing! Then I mailed it with a physical check about a month ago... nothing again!
So here I am, trying to figure out what my options are because I do *NOT* want to miss my window to convert without a health update, due to certain changes in my health.

“Over 15000 years ago, the Andarians were the first species to leave their home planet and explore space. At a remarkable pace, they explored and colonized their home system. The Andarians are highly intelligent, industrious and iron - willed. One of the reasons that we still use their unified calendar, after their demise.” Efrond spoke with admiration. All species admired the Andarians, and it had been a great loss when their entire species fell to sickness.
“Not long after that, they longed for more, and so they sent out ships to their neighbour stars. This made the Andarians the first species to learn about the most sinister force of nature that any has ever encountered. They called it the wasting sickness, we now call it star fever. They, like many of us, lost hundreds of thousands to it. If not more. Before their interstellar dream was finally crushed. With an increased focus on their system, they recognized the Stepping Stone in their system for what it truly was. They spent several decades repairing it, theirs was a heavily damaged one, and that set them off on their true interstellar journey.”

But with the mapped out lanes of the Stepping Stones that we have today, we can hardly say that we are missing out. We have safe travel between the stars, always protected by a mother's skirt, wherever we go.”
Efrond knew that the idea of a mother's skirt existed in all species and that CCN would translate it accordingly. A star protected its contents. By design or not, it was what allowed life to exist in the first place. Else, the star fever would strike on planets just as well as in deep space.
“Enough with the history lesson, Efrond. Why are we here!” Demanded a council member. Efrond recognized them as Abasaval. Their species was one of the more hot headed. Always quick to be angered.
“Aye, on an emergency no less!' Another quipped. “I hate using the Stones in such quick succession. And using the Central Rosetta makes me sick to the core every time as well.”
Another common occurrence. Travel by Stepping Stones was rough on one's senses. The central Rosetta was a special variant, able to connect to any stone, anywhere, while traditionally stones connected in a one-to-one fashion. It was even rougher on the senses, though.
“Calm yourselves,” Efrond spoke again. “We just received a communication from the souther rim of our known space. The message is about two months old. It starts with a routine mission to analyse a passing interstellar object.”
“Don't tell me we are here for an asteroid!” Abasaval quipped. Efrond ignored him and continued.
“But as the object passed through the system, which is a dead-end lane, they saw the object make minute adjustments to its trajectory, using the star itself for doing so and then left in another direction. It was noted to not travel at the speed of light, but very close to it. It showed clear signs of intelligent life.”
The council was suddenly abuzz with sound. A cacophony, loud and chaotic.
“Impossible!”
“Life that can survive the star fever?”
“Perhaps the vessel was automated and nothing more than a travelling coffin!”
Efrond calmed the council again. “While the passing was very short-lived, the analysts were able to get some scans from the object, there is evidence of possible life forms inside of it. But it left too soon to confirm it. In any case, this is enough evidence for an emergency meeting. I have made a proposal to set up a task force. To try to intercept with this object, we know what system it will have to pass by next after all, and we do have a lane to it. And to find out more about them. If there is a species out there with a cure to the star sickness, we need to get in touch with them. Our entire community is based on the premise of how we navigate the stars. Introducing a player who does not have to abide by those rules… I do not have to spell it out for you. This could have disastrous outcomes.”
The council dismissed soon after, the proposal unanimously approved. Although Efrond saw different reactions to the news. Some were hopeful, not all species had gained good territory and the lanes were limiting to them. Some were angered or worried, as they gained a lot from the current system. Abasaval seemed to have been eager, probably thinking about war. Their species lived for combat and their culture revolved around it. There would be a lot of work ahead of Efrond.

Earth - Terran central Atlatl command
“We have a message from Spear 5, sir” The comms officer spoke up suddenly, surprising Kurt.
“Let's hear it then.” Kurt said, looking up from his screen, filled with anything but work.
As an Atlatl commanding officer, his station was not a glorious one. One of the three captains that rotated in manning the comms station. Waiting for messages send back from any of the Spears. If they did get a message, it was usually to notify the successful deployment of a Deep Comms Sat. The DCS was meant to become a vast network, capable of sending messages from star to star, which would allow humanity to effectually communicate at incredible speeds, across the vastness of space. But step one was deploying them as the Spears explored nearby systems. After that, they all had to spend several years passing around information that would allow them to configure themselves into the formation, and then it would be functional. The estimated time of completion for a fully working DCS web was several decades. But each DCS chain that one of the Spears left behind worked, albeit in a less efficient way than once the whole system would be functional.
“Yes, Spear 5 seems to have encountered an anomaly in the Albert system. They were travelling at full speed as they are on their way back to get a DCS resupply. They think they might have come across intelligent life. There were some activity spikes that seemed like something was trying to either contact them or scan them. They are now in deep space, so their next reply will take a while.”
“Tell them to send over their reports, over DCS web. Meanwhile, send a copy of their data over to the other departments and have our analysts go over it as well.” Kurt stood up now, this was potentially big. Maybe big enough to get him out of his current post. But only if this was actual alien life. Better to play by the book until there was certainty.
“Send a copy to my terminal as well, I will be going over it personally too. Plan a meeting with the other two captains. I need to brief them on this and make sure we are ready.”
“Aye. Ready for what, sir?” The comms officered looked worried.
“Anything.”

Timeline:
March 21, 2024,
I filed my resignation, and it took 3 processing days before they agreed on my resignation. There is no policy regarding the clearance but only a final instruction via conversation in microsoft (I still have the evidence)
March 26, 2024
is my last day, I already settled all the company assets (like Devices, documents, Company ID's)_ in our office where I reside. The following days, there are no further instructions, so I have assumed that I settled everything to them and at the same time, they terminated my microsoft account.
April 23, 2024.
almost 30 days, I emailed them a short notice regarding my remaining collectibles using my personal Microsoft account since they already terminated my company account. I also texted them on their phone number, but I haven't received any reply text.
"Dear XXX ManagementGood morning, ma'am and sir. ........
I tried to reach them; I talked to my employer thru messenger"Nag good morning ako sa employer and sinabi ko na nag mail ako sa kanila thru outlook, nag reply yung employer at sinabi na, nabasa nila at nalulungkot daw sya kasi wala naman daw akong naririnig sa kanila na demand kahit noon pa, bakit daw ako nag dedemand at hindi naman daw nila tinatakbuhan ang resposisbilities nila sa mga nag resign"The employer said that by the end of april, she will settled all my collectibles and will message me back.

"Sinabi ko sa employer na nag dodoubt na ako, kaya tinanong ko kung ano ba yung courier service nila at ano na ang status. The employer told me na, ganyan na ba kasama ang XXX company saakin para pag dudahan ko, hindi naman daw sila tumatakas sa responsibility nila sa mga nag resign na may mga collectibles, lahat yun na sesettle, sadyang wala talaga kasi hindi pa ang babayad ang client, kahit daw yung employee nila is wala parin sweldo"
On my perspective, since I am no longer working for them, there is no reason to continue withholding my collectibles they should have think this thru since madami ng beses ako pinangakuan hinid lang after ko mag resign, noong december pa sila ganyan, at satingin ko hindi na tama ang action nila, kung hindi man stable ang cashflow satingin ko may iba pa naman paraan ayoko lang sabihin kasi it is not my legal right. After that case, I went to DOLE and inquire before I file a report.

2024.05.15 10:34 Hunter-56 (Rant) I’m sick of pre-installed apps on devices
Windows specifically, but it applies to other software and phones as well. Call me old but I miss when devices only came with the bare minimum they needed to run, and anything extra you installed yourself. I swear 90% of setup time for new devices is uninstalling and disabling shit.
I’ve had my laptop for 6 months and I’m still discovering stupid hidden Microsoft apps I don’t want or need to uninstall. Sometimes the app doesn’t even have the option to uninstall.
On a similar note, why does every program need to be running in the background using resources when you’re not even using it?? One of the first things I have to do when getting a new device is manually disable on startup/stop automatic updates for everything, and turn off all data sharing I can find. No thank you MS Office, you don’t need to be connected to the internet 24/7 when I never open you.
Don’t get me started on MS trying to strong arm you into creating a MS account instead of a local account during setup. Absolute BS, good thing I know workarounds.

I’ve had my laptop for 6 months and I’m still discovering stupid hidden Microsoft apps I don’t want or need to uninstall. Sometimes the app doesn’t even have the option to uninstall.
On a similar note, why does every program need to be running in the background using resources when you’re not even using it?? One of the first things I have to do when getting a new device is manually disable on startup/stop automatic updates for everything, and turn off all data sharing I can find. No thank you MS Office, you don’t need to be connected to the internet 24/7 when I never open you.
Don’t get me started on MS trying to strong arm you into creating a MS account instead of a local account during setup. Absolute BS, good thing I know workarounds.

 | Hey everyone!! 🥹🥹 submitted by cut-and-dry to lineporn [link] [comments] I don’t know if this will help anyone, but I just can’t tell you how much I needed someone to tell me these things happened to them&that I wasn’t alone while in this insane limbo I’ve been in. WEIRD PREGNANCY STUFF HAPPENS! Here’s my story: My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past year. It’s been frustrating, heartbreaking, and honestly debilitating for me at times. The amount of testing, crying, letdowns, freak outs etc have been so so difficult. As you can see from my post history here, I’ve had a WEIRD cycle. I started getting very very faint positives a week and a half ago. I started to feel pregnant, even! Unfortunately, last Monday the 6th came along and I started bleeding like crazy. I went straight to the doc who performed a urine test and it came back as negative! She told me she was certain it was a chemical pregnancy, but something just felt OFF to me. After that, I still kept testing. I bled all of Monday and Tuesday and then spotted until Sunday (two days ago). But my tests kept coming out positive!! I had called the doc on thursday to see if I could come in for a test. They said to come in Friday after taking a digital test first. Thursday night a tornado blew threw my driveway and the surrounding area (I’m not kidding HAHAHA). Friday my OBGYN was closed because their power was out, so obviously a test wasn’t gonna happennn 🤦🏻♀️ 😂 pic of the twisted, broken tree in my driveway is attached. Well, today I went back to the doctor, got a blood test, and was confirmed positive for pregnancy!! My OBGYN who’d originally told me I had an early miscarriage called me and congratulated me after I left the office (shes never called me before and I did feel a little vindicated 😭). All of this is to say that WEIRD PREGNANCY STUFF HAPPENS! You aren’t alone. Take it one day at a time. My baby is obviously very sassy because she made a tornado appear and made me bleed nonstop for two days 😂 I’m just really happy and grateful for all of the people who talked to me on this sub as well as others.
