2024.05.14 23:38 Far-Answer-79 Urgent assistance needed - Dissertation

Need URGENT help with my qualitative study! My dissertation is a QSLR. I have finished writing my dissertation and need help figuring out a few numbers. I am in a clinical program, statistics and research is absolutely not my forte. The program I used was MAXQDA, it was highly recommended to me for my qualitative thematic analysis. Long story short, I never downloaded the software as I hired an expert to help me run the analysis. This made the most logical sense as I never planned to use this software again in my life, or any data software for that matter, so I did not need to waste time learning it. He ran the analysis for me, gave me the codes, results, etc. in excel and word docs. Now I need help plugging in certain numbers into my research. I've reached out to the guy I worked with for help, unfortunately it seems he is too busy and sent me a spreadsheet that I have no idea what I am doing with. He understands I do not have much understanding of statistics or working with data. I really need someone who can help me sort out some key numbers. I am not looking for much. I need to know the percentage of articles that had mentioned the keywords/codes to my themes. I have 6 themes total. I am also looking to complete a prisma flow chart but that is lower in priority. PLEASE, I am desperate and on a major time crunch. I need help and I am willing to pay you for your efforts, however I cannot pay you an egregious amount either. My understanding is that the data is right underneath my nose based on all the docs the analyst sent me, but I just don't know how to make sense of it!

2024.05.14 23:38 LoneEcho12 Any Tips On Navigating This Non-Helpful World?

I'm not mute all the time. I'm autistic, and cannot speak when overwhelmed.
When in this overwhelmed state, it feels like being on a wildly-unsafe rollercoaster while starving (stomach pain), while being asked to mentally solve: sqrt{ [ P1(1 - P1) / n1 ] + [ P2(1 - P2) / n2 ] }, while the world seems insanely bright, loud, and every part of my clothing feels annoying and oppressive,, and while it feels like everyone is looking at me and demanding I give them some answer with 500 variables they neither see nor care about that will negatively affect my life. That's how it feels on the inside. On the outside, I become flustered, start stuttering, and my facial expression becomes even more blank (which people typically interpret as hostile, making them start to treat me like an enemy').
So I become temporarily mute. It can last for hours, days, weeks, or months. This has occurred, on and off, for my entire life (now in my 30's).
To try and calm down, I usually put on sunglasses + earbuds (nature sounds) + headphone + face mask. This has the effect of hiding my facial expressions (which I cannot control at the best of times).
What really bothers me is the fact that while shutting down and being mute helps me to feel better, it also causes me more problems when I have to deal with humans:
I know some ASL, but no employee ever does. I carry a notepad/app to write in, but everyone acts put-upon to have to take the extra 60 seconds to read. Worse: some businesses make it impossible to be mute without suffering consequences. For example, during a particularly bad stretch of a few months where I didn't speak, but I had to sign up for insurance. I sent emails to every name-brand insurance company you can think of, and every single one of them said I had to apply by phone. "If you can't speak, you have to use TTY," which, of course, means you have to give some random operator every single piece of your personal information. (I appreciate operators, but I don't trust anyone with all of my private information).
How do you all handle these issues? It feels like there is no winning. Like it's all a giant checkmate: If you're different, then you lose. Game Over.
Thanks for listening to my rant...

2024.05.14 23:37 Turbulent-Knee7618 I feel like a bad person for even thinking about this

( half baked feelingsā€¦ kinda every where)
I have been very interested in wanting connection with people in the age regression community in real life. I believe it would help me a lot with my issues to not feel isolated. But I keep stumbling on conventions like CAPcon, and it sounds so freeing in a way, but at the same time, it's ABDL. I'm strictly non-sexual. I regress for comfort; it's nice to play dress-up with my stuffies or watch shows that make me feel stable. And I know if I were to go to that kind of event and anything sexual happened in any form, I'd freak out bad, and I'd be inviting myself to a place not meant for me. Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is, are there any safe places, ways, events where I can connect with others?ā€¦ I feel gross

2024.05.14 23:37 EmpressDarkDomme UTI time wo treatment?

Hi! UTI symptoms started on 5/3, with a diagnosis given yesterday 5/13. Iā€™d like to wait until 5/17 to start antibiotics, which would be a full 2 weeks from onset of symptoms. My concern is risk of kidney infection if I delay treatment more?
My only real symptom is pelvic pain that extends up slightly into the abdomen on both sides. No fever. No nausea. No chills. Low back pain, but thatā€™s normal for me.
Reasons Iā€™d like to delay treatment : 1) Risk of adverse reaction to antibiotics, given history of adverse reactions. If a reaction happens, better for it to happen over the weekend than during the work week 2) Work plans mid-week involving alcohol, which canā€™t be mixed with antibiotics. Might be a dumb reason to delay treatment, yet it is a reason
I started taking a probiotic, d-mannose, and UT Answer yesterday.
How much of a risk to my kidneys do yā€™all think it is to wait a total of 14 days from onset of UT symptoms to treatment with antibiotics?

2024.05.14 23:37 tryin2fitwhereforced I'm beside myself right now! What are my options? [CA]

Today was supposed to be a day off for me, mandated by a medical recommendation due to an ongoing health issue. However, despite this, I was asked to make the journey of over an hour to report to work, only to be summarily terminated upon arrival. Adding insult to injury, I had a company vehicle, so I was then placed in an Uber and sent home in disbelief and heartbreak. Because I needed this job more than you guys can even imagine. My employer knows why that is.
The rationale behind my relief of duty, I was told, was my alleged failure to perform my duties adequately. Admittedly, personal challenges had hindered my performance, and i was the first to take accountability for that and make it known I was aware of my shortcomings. My personal shortcomings that is. Knowing I can do better. but I had diligently fulfilled my responsibilities to the best of my ability. The only place I lacked was filling out my audits on some tracker that i was never shown how to use. But yet he washed it a certain way that was never disclosed to me. For the physical, boots on the ground part of my job always got done. My tenure with the company spanned only about 10 months. My other employmentā€™s before lasted 12 years and 7 years. When I came on board I was hired under the explicit directive of my boss: he confided in me that he sought someone who would challenge the status quo and question any discrepancies they observed.
Primarily tasked with overseeing health and safety protocols within the construction industry, I initially accepted the position with reservations about certain practices but opted to remain silent. However, as time progressed, I grew increasingly vocal about my reservations, particularly regarding safety measures that appeared more concerned with liability coverage than genuine worker protection.
Curiously, despite my concerns, and before my termination I never received any formal warnings or assistance to address these issues, or the issues I was having due to my lack of training. My induction into the role was characterized by a distinct lack of trainingā€”barely two days to acquaint myself with the intricacies of the company's procedures. Consequently, I often found myself navigating unfamiliar territory, with my remote boss micromanaging operations from a considerable distance, frequently leaving me in the dark about critical aspects of my responsibilities. My boss is well aware of these issues. Always stated about the lack of training and how he wished he could make it down more to help out.
In the end, my employment was terminated abruptly today, and I refused to sign any paperwork presented to me. While a severance package was proffered, I declined to sign it. As I awaited my Uber ride home, I watched my boss surreptitiously slip the termination documents into my bag.
Now, I find myself contemplating my next steps. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this challenging situation. Thank you.

2024.05.14 23:37 scrundel Singer 503A Jamming, Help Appreciated

Hi all, my wife and I are enthusiastic noobs looking for some help with our vintage Singer 503A jamming.
Imgur link to pics/video
When I go to sew, it frequently jams, sometimes after two inches, sometimes after a few feet. It has been recently serviced and cleaned. I have tried all combinations of adjusting upper and lower thread tension, as well as presser foot pressure. I am using vintage type 66 steel bobbins that came with the machine. The only thing I have noticed is that it seems to do it less when going through multiple layers of thicker fabric. Iā€™m threading the machine per the updated manufacturer instructions released after they found some small defect. The jam seems to be happening underneath the throat plate. Iā€™ve noticed that the needle clamp is somehow missing a little part and will be replaced, though I canā€™t see how that would be making it snag underneath. Based off of a few videos Iā€™ve watched on troubleshooting these machines, I think it might be snagging on the de-lint pin, but I donā€™t have the experience to corroborate that.
I'm an engineer and perfectly comfortable fixing or modifying the machine, I just don't want to go poking around and taking things apart just for the sake of feeling productive.
Any guidance or a point in the right direction would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks!

2024.05.14 23:37 Arbrand The Peach Factory

Living in a small southern town, you get used to the way things are. I grew up as a military brat, so my childhood memories are a blur of packing, unpacking, and getting settled. It had been seven years since we arrived, and nothing but the grace of God would make me move again. A few years ago, my father got orders to station at a base in the middle of the Mohave. I was only seventeen then, but after a few dozen screaming matches, I decided to strike out on my own a little early. I got a part-time job at the cafe, which was enough to rent a little run-down shack a couple of blocks from downtown. As far as I was concerned, I was living the dreamā€”serving coffee a few hours a week and spending the rest of my time hanging out with friends, listening to music, and drinking.
That particular morning started the same as any other. I woke up around noon with a text from Mark to meet me at the cafe. Took me about two hours to get up and head over. The sun had just begun its descent as I pushed the door to the cafe open, the bell above tinkling softly. The sound bothered me a little bit, but I couldnā€™t tell why. It seemed to ring a little louder than I was expecting, and gave me this strange drilling sensation inside my head.
I ignored the feeling as the smell of slightly stale coffee and pastries washed over me. I saw Mark and Jamie already sat at our usual spot. Mark looked up as I approached, a grin spreading across his face. "Hey, Alex. Sarah should be here soon."
ā€œSo what's on the docket today?ā€ I asked as I sat down, stealing a bear claw off Jamie's plate and taking a large bite before he had the chance to protest.
Markā€™s excitement was almost palpable. He was always the one with the big ideas and crazy schemes, which I honestly appreciated. They got us into trouble more often than not, but it beat day drinking in the Walmart parking lot like everyone else our age.
"Alright, check this out," Mark said, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "I was talking to my cousin who works for the county. He told me about this old, abandoned food processing factory just outside of town. They used to can peaches there."
I gave him a skeptical look. "Thatā€™s your idea? Old, canned peaches?"
"No, idiot," he scoffed. "They left behind a ton of nitrates and phosphates. Iā€™ve been doing some reading, and we can use them to make fireworks. I was up all night figuring it out and putting these together." He subtly opened his backpack to reveal at least a dozen PVC pipes fitted on both ends.
"Now that's what Iā€™m talking about," I said, grinning.
Sarah walked in, catching the tail end of our conversation. "Sorry Iā€™m late, I had a breakout and had to stop by the pharmacy. Upped my allergy meds. I fucking hate pollen," she said as I scooted over to make room for her on the bench.
"Is there anything you aren't allergic to?" I laughed.
She rolled her eyes, ignoring my question. "So, what's the plan for today?"
Mark, Jamie and I exchanged cheeky glances. "Well," I started, "letā€™s just hope youā€™re not allergic to peaches."
We finally managed to pry the side door of the factory off, which broke free from the hinges and smashed against the floor. Stepping inside, the air was thick and rancid as we bounced the beams of our flashlights around the packaging floor.
"We should split up," Mark suggested. "Alex, you and Sarah check out the storage rooms for the chemicals. Jamie and I will find the control room and see if we can get the power back on."
All of us nodded as we went our separate ways. Sarah and I wandered down the dark hallways, kicking open doors and looking for anything that looked vaguely like chemicals. The corridors were dark and damp, with black mold snaking along the walls like veins.
The first few rooms we checked were empty, filled only with dust and the remnants of long-abandoned equipment. Each door creaked as we pushed it open, revealing more decay and desolation.
As we moved further down the hallway, the mold seemed to become more aggressive, spreading in thick, dark patches along the walls and floors. The air grew heavier, making it harder to breathe. We kicked open another door, our flashlights revealing more of the sameā€”nothing useful.
"This place is a bust," Sarah muttered,
"Let's keep looking," I replied, though I was starting to feel the same way. "There has to be something."
We continued down the corridor, our footsteps echoing in the silence. As we approached the end of the hall, something caught my eye. One door stood out, covered in black, creeping mold that seemed to pulse and writhe. Tendrils of fungus snaked out from the edges, reaching out into the hallway.
"Sarah, look at this," I said.
She turned to see what I was pointing at and her eyes widened. "Thatā€™s... different."
We approached the door cautiously as the tendrils moved and swayed.
With a deep breath, we each grabbed one side of the door and pulled. It resisted for a moment before giving way, the mold snapping and tearing as we forced it open. The smell that hit us was overpowering, a mix of rot and decay that made my eyes water.
Inside, our flashlights revealed a horrifying sight. At the back of the room sat several pallets with dozens of boxes of peaches each. But it was what grew from these boxes that will haunt my nightmares till my dying day.
The entire back wall was consumed by a towering fungal mass. Thick, fleshy stalks jutted out from the base, climbing nearly to the ceiling. The surface of the fungus glistened with a slimy, wet sheen, appearing almost like rotting flesh under our flashlight beams. Each stalk was covered in a mottled, sickly green and yellow hue, with patches of black mold that seemed to pulse in the dim light.
Interwoven within this horrific sight were bulbous growths, each one throbbing rhythmically, as if with a heartbeat of its own. They resembled obscene, overgrown tumors, ready to burst at the slightest touch. Long, sinewy tendrils extended from the main mass, creeping over the boxes and along the floor like the fingers of some malevolent creature, seeking out any life to ensnare.
The tendrils near the door twitched, slowly inching their way toward us as if aware of our presence. The air was thick with spores, glimmering in the light like tiny stars, each one a potential harbinger of decay and death.
"Oh my god," Sarah whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of our own breathing. "What is that thing?"
We stood there, frozen in shock and disgust, before I slammed the door shut.
"Let's get the hell out of here," I said.
We hurried back down the corridor, our footsteps echoing in the oppressive silence. The lights in the facility flickered on, casting a blinding white light. I heard a bubbling, groaning noise emanate from behind the fungal door, sending a wave of nausea through my body.
We met back up with Mark and Jamie in the main area and quickly told them what we saw.
"Yo, that sounds sick," Jamie exclaimed. "We should blow it up. I found the chemicals in the control room and these bad boys are ready to go," he said, holding up a pipe bomb.
"Yeah," Mark agreed, his eyes alight with excitement. "We'd be doing the world a favor, getting rid of that thing."
Sarah shook her head, her face pale. "No way. I'm not doing this. That thing... It's not normal. We need to get out of here and call someone who knows what they're doing."
Jamie frowned. "Come on, Sarah. Don't be a buzzkill. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to do something epic."
"Epic?" Sarah snapped. "That thing is dangerous. We don't know what we're dealing with. I'm not risking my life for some stupid joke."
Mark stepped in with a grin. "Alright, let's all calm down. If youā€™re scared you can just let the men handle it.ā€
Sarah crossed her arms. "Fine, but I'm staying here."
"Suit yourself," Jamie said, shrugging. "But we're not leaving without taking care of that thing."
"Alright, let's do this," Mark said, looking at Jamie and me. "We'll be quick. Sarah, stay here and keep an eye out.ā€
The hallway looked completely different in the fluorescent lighting. I could see now that each vein of fungus emanated from that single door, like a spiral portal threatening to suck us in.
"Let's make this quick," I whispered, glancing back at Jamie and Mark. "We light the bomb, throw it in, and get the hell out of here."
Jamie nodded, holding the pipe bomb tightly in his hand. "Ready when you are."
We reached the door, and the tendrils of fungus seemed even more aggressive, writhing and pulsing as if aware of our presence. The air was thick with spores.
"On three," I whispered, gripping the edge of the door. "One... two... three."
We yanked the door open, the mold snapping and tearing as it gave way. The smell of rot and decay hit us again, making my eyes water. The monstrous fungal mass loomed before us, its bulbous growths throbbing rhythmically.
Jamie lit the fuse and threw the bomb as hard as he could inside. It struck one of the orbs, which burst, shooting a fine white mist into the air.
"Run!" I shouted, slamming the door shut. We turned and sprinted down the hallway. The explosion sounded behind us, the shockwave lifting me off my feet and sending me tumbling to the ground.
Living in a small southern town, you get used to the way things are. My parents were in the army, so we moved a lot, but now I'm staying put. I woke up around noon and got a text from Mark to meet at the cafe. The smell of slightly stale coffee and pastries greeted me as I arrived. The bell's ring seemed off, giving me a small headache.
I ignored it and slid into the seat across from Mark and Jamie. ā€œSo what's on the docket today?ā€ I asked, stealing a doughnut off Jamie's plate.
ā€œGoing to go to an old peach factory and get some chemicals. I need to make some fireworks,ā€ Mark replied, subtly revealing some pipe bombs in his bag.
Sarah walked in towards the tail end of our conversation and silently stood next to our table.
The three of us glanced at each other, unsure of how to proceed. ā€œSarah,ā€ I finally started. ā€œAre you ok?ā€
ā€œY-yeah,ā€ she replied. ā€œAre YOU guys feeling ok?ā€
We exchanged uneasy glances. ā€œYeah, weā€™re fine,ā€ I said. After a moment, she shook her head and sat down as we continued our plans.
That evening, we broke into the peach factory. We found this disgusting, gigantic fungal growth coming out of some boxes of peaches and we blew it up with some pipe bombs.
The next day I woke up around noon and got a text from Mark to meet at the cafe. The smell of slightly stale coffee and pastries greeted me as I arrived. The bell's ring seemed off, giving me a small migraine.

I ignored it and slid into the seat across from Mark and Jamie. ā€œSo what's on the docket today?ā€ I asked, stealing a bagel off Jamie's plate.
ā€œGoing to go to an old peach factory and get some chemicals. I need to make some fireworks,ā€ Mark replied, subtly revealing some pipe bombs in his bag.

ā€œWhat's going on?ā€ she asked, tears welling up in her eyes. ā€œIā€™m scared.ā€
We exchanged uneasy glances. ā€œItā€™s fine, Sarah. Just take a seat,ā€ I said.
The bell's ring seemed off, giving me a splitting migraine.
As I slid into the seat across from Mark and Jamie, I noticed Sarah outside, fixated on a bird suspended in mid-flight. I went out to see her.
"Are you seeing this?" she asked, her voice tinged with astonishment.
"Yeah," I replied nonchalantly. "That happens all the time. Are you sure you're feeling okay?"
"What the hell do you mean, 'Am I feeling okay?'!" she screamed. "That bird is frozen mid-air, and you don't think anything weird is going on?"
Her yelling took me aback. I didn't understand her alarm, so I shrugged it off and joined Mark inside. As we began planning our nightly excursion to the peach factory, Sarah burst through the door, screaming, then vanished in a puff of smoke.
"That's odd," I mused, my brow furrowed in confusion before we shrugged it off and resumed our scheming.
The day after, I met Mark again at the cafe. This rhythm had become our existence: meetings by day, adventures by night at the old peach plant. That evening followed the familiar pattern; we reveled in the thrill of hurling pipe bombs into that small enclosed room.
This routine had completely engulfed our lives. Day after day at the cafe, night after night at the factoryā€”it seemed as though this cycle was all we had ever known. Reflecting on it, I couldn't remember any other way of life.
However, one thing increasingly disturbed meā€”the ringing of the doorbell at the cafe's entrance. Each time I entered, the sound seemed sharper, more grating. Focusing on it brought a searing pain to my head, like a needle drilling through my skull. Yet, despite the agony, I found myself obsessing over it, the sound gnawing at the edges of my sanity.
One day, driven to the brink by this incessant ringing, I decided to confront it head-on. I stood by the door, letting the bell chime repeatedly. Each ring sliced through my mind, but I persisted, sweat beading on my forehead, teeth clenched in torment.
As the pain crescendoed, reality shattered. I woke to the blaring of a fire alarm, not the quaint doorbell I had imagined. The cafe was engulfed in chaos. The hallway was consumed by a sprawling fungal mass, its tendrils creeping along the walls.
In the dim, flickering light, I saw Jamie, or what was left of him. Half of his skull was missing, the fungus attached grotesquely to his exposed brain, pulsating with each eerie beat of his fading heart. Mark was there too, seemingly unharmed physically, but trapped in a delusion, his eyes glazed over, a smile playing on his lips as the fungus encased him.
Sarah lay collapsed by the fire alarm, her hand still on the lever. She had managed to pull it before succumbing to the spores that now clung to her body.
The tendrils that had enveloped me snapped violently, each break releasing a sickening crack that echoed through the eerie silence of the hallway. An outline of my body remained imprinted in the fungal mass, a mold from which I had desperately broken free.
Gritting my teeth against the pain and horror, I scrambled to Mark and Sarah. Mark was less entangled, lost in his fungal-induced stupor. I grabbed him under the arms, his body limp but alive, and dragged him across the floor. The fungus resisted, stretching like sinew before tearing away from him with wet, ripping sounds.
Sarah was heavier, her body weakened but still fighting. I clasped her wrists, pulling with all my strength. The fungus clung to her, tendrils winding up her arms like ivy. With a final, determined yank, the last of the tendrils snapped, freeing her. We left behind fragments of the monstrous growth clinging to her clothes.
Together, we staggered out into the night air, away from the suffocating enclosure. The cool air hit our faces, harsh yet cleansing. Behind us, the fire alarm continued to blare into the night. I fumbled with my phone, hands shaking, to dial the emergency number. The call went through, and within minutes, the sound of sirens cut through the stillness of the night, growing louder as help approached.
The next few days were a blur. I remember fading in and out of consciousness as nurses pumped antifungals directly into my IV, their faces blurring into the sterile environment. Once we were somewhat cognizant, the police wanted answers. One by one, we were interviewed, but we gave them nothing. I still donā€™t know what the exact penalty is for manufacturing explosives and using them to destroy a building, but Iā€™m guessing itā€™s not community service. Jamie was still missing, and they hadnā€™t found any sign of him or his body. I tried to hide my tears as I knew he was already long gone.
After a few weeks, I was finally cleared for visitors and got to see Sarah again. She told me that after the explosion, she ran but couldnā€™t leave us behind. She came back, only to see us being consumed by the fungus. Try as she might, she wasnā€™t able to free us as she felt the oppressive spores take her under. She fought back and managed to pull the fire alarm before succumbing again. The doctors told her that her allergy medication gave her some resistance to the fungus; otherwise, she might have been a goner.
Mark was never the same. We never talked about what happened, and after trying once and him flipping out, I figured it was best to let sleeping dogs lie. That summer, he moved to upstate New York to work in his dadā€™s business. I havenā€™t seen him since. That fall, Sarah started college at Savannah State. I still call her every now and again, but itā€™s not like it used to be.
Despite all that happened, Iā€™m not moving again. Iā€™m happy here, and if itā€™s up to me, Iā€™ll die in this little town. I still work at the cafe, as a manager now. On weekends, I come in and just sit at the booth we all used to share.
I still think about Jamie from time to time. I wonder if he's dead or still stuck in his delusion, picturing the four of us sitting at our table, talking, laughing, and passing the time. Sometimes, when the cafe is empty and the light is just right, I can almost see him there, his smile frozen in that moment before everything went wrong.
The cafe grows quieter each day, the hum of life fading into an eerie stillness. My skin feels different, as if the air itself whispers secrets I can't quite grasp. The itching that started as a minor annoyance has intensified, becoming a constant torment. I scratch at lesions that have begun to form on my arms and chest, red and raw, with patches of green spreading beneath the surface. Iā€™ve started to wear long sleeves to cover my arms and a mask to hide my purpling lips.
Some nights, when closing, as I sit alone in the dim light of the cafe, the itching becomes unbearable. I claw at the lesions, feeling a dampness beneath my skin. Sometimes, when I cough, I could swear I see tiny spores hanging in the air, reminiscent of the bursting nodules growing on the stalks of the monster.
Occasionally, I hear the bell ring and the door open, but no one is there. I look outside into the empty night and see nothing. This went on for weeks, becoming more frequent. But one night, the door opened, and I saw Jamie standing there, the picture of health. I went to embrace him and noticed my lesions were gone too. It was almost as if we had never gone to the peach factory. It was suddenly morning, and the light shone through the cafe. For the first time in forever, we were happy. We talked about nothing, passing the time.
After what felt like hours, he told me it was time to go. But his mouth wasnā€™t movingā€”I felt like I could read his thoughts, and he could read mine. We stood up as I took one last look at the cafe and headed off with him, back to the peach factory.
As we walked, a strange calmness settled over me. I remember feeling that I wanted to ask if he had talked to Mark or Sarah, and wondered how they were doing. But deep down, somehow, I could feel their presence and I knew they were doing just fine. The sun was bright, the air crisp. The itching had vanished completely, replaced by an inexplicable craving for the sweetness of ripe peaches. Jamie and I shared a silent understanding, a bond deeper than any words could convey.
The factory loomed ahead, its doors wide open as if inviting us in. The familiar scent of peaches and something elseā€”something earthy and ancientā€”filled the air. We stepped inside, side by side, feeling at home for the first time in ages.
The last thing I remember before the darkness took over was the feeling of the soft, warm peach flesh in my hand, and Jamieā€™s voice in my head saying, "Welcome home."

2024.05.14 23:37 taraadela1995 Advice on what to do with contractor

Hey Everyone!
I own a marketing agency and I'm working with a roofing company in South Bend, Indiana.
I am working with them on a commission basis, as they offered me 20% profit for everything that closes from the leads I generate.
In the past 30 days, I've generated 24 leads. I offered to set up automations to help book directly through text/email and the owner declined. I set up a CRM so the owner can keep track of which leads answered, booked, sold, quotes given etc. He doesn't use the CRM. I've offered to call the leads and help him book them, and he declined (even though I do this for other companies i run ads for, and we have a high booking rate)
for some reason he's my ONLY contractor that hasn't closed anything.... however his stats look the same to my other clients that pay me on retainer and are getting good results.
Is he taking advantage of me? And what would be the best way to sever this relationship and retain a good reputation.

2024.05.14 23:37 I_need_assistancePls How would one go about asking their parents for therapy

I (17M) have been suspecting I have ADHD for some time now. It mostly started like 2 years ago I think when my friends said I might have it. I had a way of thinking that I might have it or I might not, what difference would it make? Which is why what actually peaked my interest was the fact that they mentioned that it's possible to get treatment per se.
Just noticed I've created a walk of text yapping about what essentially are my suspected "symptoms" you can skip this if you'd like
ā€”ā€”ā€”
I've only had contact with one person with diagnosed ADHD in my life and they had behavioral problems and had had a person that watched him over in his class, which made me believe that was ADHD, especially with my mom using the fact he has ADHD to explain why he was acting the way he was. It didn't help that my whole life I've only ever heard ADHD being used in a joking manner like when I was jumping all over the place as a kid or straight up being told it's made up by my biology teacher back in primary school.
So I started researching it and I related to most if not all posts on here, on subs like adhdmeme and comics like the ones created by ADHD Alien.
I honestly don't see a big deal with not being able to sit still, sitting weird etc. My bigger problem is my working memory being so horrible that at this point I'm known for remembering nothing and not being expected to. Some of my friends have even resolved to telling me plans only a day before because they knew I wouldn't remember. I always forget where I put anything anywhere and I've been described by one of classmates as "one of the smartest and dumbest people in the class" cause subjects like math come so easy to me I don't remember the last time I've had to study and yet I seem to not know the most basic things that everyone just seems to just know. I can barely even recall my childhood.
I've always thought that maybe it was the pandemic that did something to my memory and my time clock which is equally fucked up but honestly I don't even remember that far to confirm with absolute certainty whether I've always been like this or not.
I also get this weird seasonal depression I'd call it? I'm pretty sure I've read about it here once, it's like every couple of weeks I switch from mostly happy to mostly sad and vice versa. I dunno if it's relevant but I wanted to mention it anyhow.
Tho I'd say the worst is the executive dysfunction and procrastination that I could go on and on about but I suspect most of you know what I'm talking about. The feeling of wanting to do everything and yet ending up doing nothing and the putting things off till last minute or till there's something bigger to procrastinate on like I'm doing rn writing this post instead of studying for my history and chemistry test tommorow. Or the waking up early and yet staying in bed till I'm almost late.
I can barely make myself do anything in my free time which is why I feel like I'm wasting my potential and I want to do something about it before it's too late.
ā€”ā€”ā€”
Coming back to the actual subject at hand. I come from Poland, which is not exactly known for its male mental health awareness and I'm afraid my mom won't understand or will try to dismiss my worries since private therapy costs money. I tried to just mention ADHD in a conversation with my mom and the literal first thing I get is "you don't have ADHD". I've never really talked to my dad about these kinds of things so I don't think I have it in me.
Do you guys think I should try or just wait 8 months till my 18 birthday and go by myself? I also suspect that if it will ever come to the medication subject my parents will be against it which is probably why I'm leaning on waiting. I don't even know why, it's just a gut feeling.
Even now I think I'm getting ahead of myself, for all I know it's not ADHD but something completely different and I'm just inserting myself here for some subconscious need to have a special label to carry. I have no idea and my patience is growing thinner. I always thought that knowing doesn't do anything but now I'm not so sure. At the end of the day something is wrong, I am spending my days doing nothing of value, so therapy would help either way.
I just can't bring myself to ask, to even spark a conversation, I've always avoided things like this for some reason.

2024.05.14 23:37 Alruic Battledome items for beginner?

Hello all! I apologize if this topic has been asked to death, but looking through google and old reddit posts I still am not really having any luck finding an answer.
I've never done anything related to the battledome before in my 15 years of playing, but I decided its about time I start! (Well, about five months ago I decided this) I've been training two pets and they're just about level 40, and the most I've read is you want to reach at least level 50 to be decent in the dome. I've been following a training walkthrough on a petpage which has been super helpful, but when it comes to items....
Everything is, well, absurdly expensive. Which I do know to expect, but 10mil wasn't really what I was thinking the average would be. I've only been recently active on my old account for about 6 months, so I only have 10 mil, and I don't really want to spend it all on a battledome item or two.
So to get me started, what are some recommended starter weapons? This way I can at least get started in the dome and start making money towards the more expensive weapons. I also know at level 50 you can get Lens Flare, but do I need to do anything with faerie abilities before I reach level 50? Thank you in advanced for taking time to read and answer!

2024.05.14 23:37 tempmailgenerator Implementing Backend-Only Access Token Generation in ASP.NET Core

Exploring Backend Authentication Strategies

In the realm of web development, particularly within the ASP.NET Core framework, the need for secure and efficient user authentication mechanisms cannot be overstated. One of the more advanced techniques involves generating access tokens on the backend, solely based on a user's email address. This method offers a streamlined approach to authentication, reducing the need for traditional login forms and enhancing the overall user experience. By focusing on backend processes, developers can ensure a higher level of security, as sensitive user information, such as passwords, are not required to be transmitted or stored in the frontend, thus minimizing potential vulnerabilities.
The process of generating access tokens in the backend leverages the power of ASP.NET Core's robust security features and its flexible architecture. This approach not only simplifies the authentication flow but also provides a foundation for implementing more complex security models, such as role-based access control (RBAC) and multi-factor authentication (MFA). Understanding how to effectively generate and manage these tokens is crucial for developers looking to build secure and scalable web applications that prioritize user privacy and data protection.
Command / Function Description
UserManager.FindByEmailAsync Finds a user object based on the provided email.
SignInManager.CheckPasswordSignInAsync Verifies a user's password and returns a SignInResult.
TokenHandler.CreateToken Creates a new token based on the provided security token descriptor.

Understanding Backend Token Generation

In the landscape of modern web applications, security is paramount, and the method of generating access tokens in the backend is a testament to this focus. This approach, especially when implemented in ASP.NET Core, provides a seamless and secure way of authenticating users without the need to interact directly with their credentials on the client side. By relying on a user's email address to initiate the token generation process, the system minimizes exposure to phishing attacks and reduces the surface area for potential security breaches. This process involves validating the email against the database, and upon successful verification, issuing a token that grants the user access to the application. The token, typically a JWT (JSON Web Token), contains claims about the user and is signed by the server to prevent tampering.
The elegance of this method lies not only in its security but also in its adaptability and ease of integration with other services. For instance, the generated tokens can be used to interact with APIs, enabling a microservices architecture where services require authentication but do not need to manage or store user credentials. Furthermore, this token-based system facilitates the implementation of Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions, improving the user experience by allowing one set of credentials to access multiple applications. However, it's crucial for developers to ensure that the tokens are securely stored and transmitted over encrypted channels to maintain the integrity of the authentication process. Implementing token expiration and refresh mechanisms also helps in mitigating the risk of token theft and unauthorized access.

Generating Access Token for User Authentication

Using ASP.NET Core Identity and JWT
var user = await _userManager.FindByEmailAsync(email); if (user != null) { var result = await _signInManager.CheckPasswordSignInAsync(user, password, false); if (result.Succeeded) { var key = new SymmetricSecurityKey(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(_config["Jwt:Key"])); var creds = new SigningCredentials(key, SecurityAlgorithms.HmacSha256); var expiry = DateTime.Now.AddDays(2); var claims = new[] { new Claim(JwtRegisteredClaimNames.Sub, user.Email), new Claim(JwtRegisteredClaimNames.Jti, Guid.NewGuid().ToString()), new Claim(ClaimTypes.NameIdentifier, user.Id) }; var token = new JwtSecurityToken(_config["Jwt:Issuer"], _config["Jwt:Audience"], claims, expires: expiry, signingCredentials: creds); return new JwtSecurityTokenHandler().WriteToken(token); } }

Advanced Authentication Techniques in ASP.NET Core

The backend-only access token generation strategy, particularly within ASP.NET Core applications, marks a significant shift towards more secure and efficient user authentication mechanisms. This method, which leverages the user's email to generate access tokens without direct interaction with passwords or other sensitive credentials, offers an enhanced layer of security. By abstracting the authentication process to the server side, developers can mitigate common vulnerabilities associated with client-side authentication, such as cross-site scripting (XSS) and cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks. The adoption of this strategy is indicative of the evolving landscape of web security, where minimizing the attack surface is paramount.
Moreover, the utilization of JWTs (JSON Web Tokens) in this context underscores the versatility of this authentication approach. JWTs facilitate not only the secure transmission of user information but also the seamless integration with Single Page Applications (SPAs) and microservices. This compatibility with modern web architectures makes backend-only token generation particularly appealing. However, it necessitates a thorough understanding of token management practices, such as secure storage, token expiration, and the handling of refresh tokens, to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the continued security of the application and its users.

Frequently Asked Questions on Token-Based Authentication

  1. Question: What is a JWT and why is it used in authentication?
  2. Answer: JWT, or JSON Web Token, is a compact, URL-safe means of representing claims to be transferred between two parties. It is used in authentication to securely transmit user information and verify the user's identity without needing to repeatedly access the database.
  3. Question: How does ASP.NET Core manage token security?
  4. Answer: ASP.NET Core uses token-based authentication, typically with JWTs, ensuring security by signing tokens with a secret key and optionally encrypting them. It also supports HTTPS to protect the transmission of tokens over the network.
  5. Question: Can tokens be refreshed in ASP.NET Core?
  6. Answer: Yes, ASP.NET Core supports token refresh mechanisms, allowing expired tokens to be replaced with new ones without requiring the user to re-authenticate, thus maintaining the security and user experience.
  7. Question: What are the main advantages of using token-based authentication?
  8. Answer: Token-based authentication offers several advantages, including scalability by being stateless, flexibility in accessing protected resources from multiple domains, and enhanced security through limited lifetime of tokens and HTTPS.
  9. Question: How do you prevent token theft in ASP.NET Core?
  10. Answer: To prevent token theft, it's crucial to use HTTPS for secure communication, store tokens securely in the client side, implement token expiration, and consider using refresh tokens to limit the lifespan of access tokens.

Securing Web Applications with Token-Based Authentication

In conclusion, the strategy of generating access tokens in the backend using a user's email in ASP.NET Core represents a significant advancement in web application security and efficiency. This approach not only simplifies the authentication process but also significantly enhances security by reducing the exposure of sensitive user information. The use of JWTs further adds to this method's appeal by offering a flexible, secure way to manage user sessions and access controls. For developers, understanding and implementing this strategy means building web applications that are not only secure against various threats but also provide a seamless user experience. As web technologies continue to evolve, adopting such advanced authentication methods will be crucial in maintaining the trust and safety of users online.

2024.05.14 23:37 shaktishaker I (33F) have reached my limit with my partner's (33M) hygiene issues, how do I approach him?

We have been together for five years, living together for most of that time. The first couple of years he was fine, had some issues with substance dependency but we overcame that. His hygiene has been worsening and worsening over the past two years. He does not wear deodorant, nor does he shower before bed unless I ask him to. I have previously said I will not be physically close to him unless he starts wearing deodorant, because the body odour causes me discomfort. I have even bought him various types in the past that have expired in a drawer, untouched. He has a fungal infection he keeps forgetting to treat, I have caught it and cut it out (toenail) before it fully established. He does not contribute to his share of the cleaning responsibilities of the house, unless I force him to. He used to be clean so this is not how he has always been. But last night was the last straw. He found an insect larvae colony living in his toothbrush cup. I have kept mine separate for a long time. He thought it was hilarious, and could not understand why I was upset.
How do I tell him I will not stay with him unless he gets some professional support to work through this? I have a message drafted up, that says how I don't think these are the hygiene habits of a mentally well person, and that either he gets professional help to deal with this and other stuff (and always touching me sexually even when I ask him not to - he even does it in his sleep), or we talk to his family, tell them what is going on, and ask for their support through this.
I'm at my wits end. I have my own therapy, which has really helped me to affirm my boundaries and identify things that bring me harm.

2024.05.14 23:36 Gusterrro Conq buff ideas

First of all lets state the obvious. He needs a rollcatcher but I am not going to go in depth with this change, because this would require new animation and Im not that creative.
With this change Conq will not be solely dependant on his mediocre foward bash to start his mixup.
Speed them up to 700ms from 800ms.
As it is, his chain heavies are simply reactable and do low dmg compared to other heros. Sure we can increase the dmg, but problem of reactivity would remain and it would still not land very often.
Now guarantees a chain heavy for 22 dmg.
His bash is 800ms and feintable, but unlike other simmilar bashes like that of Jorm, Tiandi and HL, it only gets him 13 dmg. Jorm gets 26, Tiandi 20 and HL has even faster bash (700ms) and gets 26 dmg.
Add hyper armor at 400ms.
Other then being a bait for his full block or dodge attack, I dont really see value in this move. With this change there would be another valid option, let it fly and trade. This would also improve his team fights a little bit.
Conq suffers from very low full block punishes but we cannot just make them do more dmg, because they are the same attacks he preforms after a bash, thats why they need to be serapated.
FH is way past the point where light spam can be called a "valid strategy". Its purely up to someone to open training mode and train. Same side chain lights should be speed up to 500ms and dmg lowered to 13.
Lower the dmg to 14 from 15 and make it undodgeable.
At the current speed zone is only useful on prediction to counter GBs or as heavy parry punish. This will give it some much needed utility. Other way would be to speed it up 500ms and lover the dmg 13, but game is full a zones like that, so Imo this makes it a bit more interesting.
As it is, its kinda useless. My idea would be to add direct 3 dmg to the bash after sucessfully superior blocking.
This may seem as low, but Conq would still get SB followup for 13 dmg for a total of 16, which is still higher then his heavy max punish and full block punish.
With Shield Basher feat total dmg would be 22.
Our devs would rather jump off a clif then make new feats, so those changes will be purely numerical and some feats will be replaced.
- Tier 1
Conqueror - Capturing control zones is now 25% faster (was 15).
Body Count - Replaced by Deadly.
Those changes will improve his team fights and rotation. Body Count is a good feat, just not for Conq, his mid clean is mediocre at best.
-Tier 3
Punch Through - Replaced by Tough as Nails
Punch Through is useless on Conq because of his chain heavies being UB. Tough as Nails will help him stall fo longer, as heavies should
- Tier 4
Uninterruptible - Now Gains 50% dmg reduction. Cooldown increased to 180 seconds
Essentially replaced by longer Juggernaut without debuff. It may seem busted, but its a T4 after all. There isnt a good T4 that is not at least a little bit busted. Longer cooldown to tune it down a bit.

2024.05.14 23:36 Gimpbarbie Wheelchair to gift

Hi everyone!
Wheelchair to gift
I hope it is ok that I didnā€™t get permission before I posted this but this is an incredibly difficult thing to do but it needs to be done. Rip it off like a bandaide so to speak.
My beloved adopted daughter died 5 years ago tomorrow and she had cerebral palsy and I have her power wheelchair and I am finally ready to part with it. (As ready as Iā€™ll ever be. Again, bandaides and all that shit)
It is almost brand new, it does need new batteries which are about 900$ that I canā€™t provide but the chair has all the bells and whistles she could get covered (it fully reclines, has a 4 part harness, padded headrest, it raises the user closer to eye level of standing people when in conversation or reaching things.)
She struggled a lot with her health in her last year which is the year she got it and so it hasnā€™t been used much (which is why the batteries are done) and is in pristine condition. It would best fit a youth or small adult as my Carolyn was about 4ā€™ tall.
If you personally know anyone that it would help, please let me know!
Normally, when a chair is covered by the government you return it to where you got it from and ask if they would like it back but the company that she got it from doesnā€™t exist anymore so I canā€™t do that.
As a part-time power wheelchair user myself, I know how much a wheelchair can free a person and make their independence bloom!
I also know the Government has a lot of really arbitrary and ridiculous rules and red tape you have to go through to get a power chair if you are an ambulatory wheelchair user.
Iā€™m positive Carolyn would love to make someoneā€™s life a bit brighter! (Sometimes undiagnosed people have an especially hard time getting a chair)
Again I hope itā€™s ok to post here and feel free to ask any questions here. Pics attached including a bonus pic of my amazing girl.
Please, please donā€™t ask for this to be gifted to you if you are planning on selling it. That would really hurt my heart a lot and I donā€™t think that that is an unreasonable ask.
Thank you
PS You will have to make arrangements and bring your own manpower get the chair! It is very heavy!!
PPS I wonā€™t be able to access Reddit for a bit tonight so I may be slow responding to any questions for the next few hours.

2024.05.14 23:36 rheckber Question on eligibility

I was talking to an old buddy of mine and I mentioned I recently got approved for 10% disability for Tinnitus. When I described my symptoms he said he had the same thing. He was Army Artillery? (pretty sure he was a presumed noise exposure MOS) and I said he should file and I would be glad to help him, having just been through it. He said he wasn't eligible as he "signed his benefits away in exchange for an Honorable Discharge". Apparently he got into a fight with a superior and was made to leave the service? I'm pretty sure he does have an Honorable Discharge but I never heard of "signing your benefits away". I told him I don't think the VA operates that way and all they care about is that someone served and the discharge was honorable. Unless there's more to the story he's not telling me. Is there any situation a vet wouldn't be eligible? Can someone "sign their benefits away"?

2024.05.14 23:36 Antique_Economist_84 My mom is still using me for food stamps, what do i do?

the title might be a little misleading since itā€™s not just about the food stamps but iā€™ll explain further as to why iā€™m asking.
i recently just lost my insurance when i turned 19 and so i applied through marketplace to see if i can get a low-cost insurance plan (since that would be better than having no insurance at all). marketplace said i might be eligible for medicaid and so my information was sent to the state.
i was going to also apply for food stamps, but i left my job so at the moment i cant apply since i donā€™t work, but i had told my mom that my aunt had offered to help me apply to get food stamps so i could pay for my own food since i no longer live with my mom and my grandmother refuses to buy my safe foods/brands because they arenā€™t ā€œhealthy enoughā€. my mom told me i cant apply because then it would screw her over because according to what the state knows, i still live in her house. she kicked me out in july of 2023, so i havenā€™t lived with her in almost a year.
my question is this, when i applied for insurance through marketplace i used the address i currently live at. since itā€™s getting sent to the state, could i get in trouble for fraud or anything once they discover my name is still used in another household for food stamps even though i had no idea my mom was still using me for food stamps? but also once iā€™m able to apply, how could i go about applying for it without raising red flags towards me if they gloss over the different addresses with the insurance application?

2024.05.14 23:36 Civil_Professor8981 6 months after quitting and anxiety and depression

I am 55 and stopped smoking 6 months ago with no relapse. I have history of anxiety and depression, and have been on medication for that over the years. Unfortunately, my depression and anxiety has gotten worse at the 6 month benchmark. I would not have guessed this would have happened, and glad to see others have experienced the same. Just started a new medication with my Doctor, hoping that will help. I do have a feeling of sadness, anxiety, and some lack of motivation. How long can this last? Stopping smoking is about the only common denominator that I can come up with as to why Iā€™m feeling this way. Mornings have just been awful. I wake up early and donā€™t want to get up, and have no motivation to do anything. I have been just the opposite all my life, so this has been a really tough thing to deal with. Any input or suggestions to get through this would greatly be appreciated.
