Introduction

ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, Zepp Tokyo for \"Quarter-Century Tour\"
^(\This article is an updated version of my "Sound Like" article from 2021. I have reposted this article due to difficulties editing the original version*, and have included additional information and recommendations based on the increased popularity of amp simulator pedals*)*
Hello fellow musicians and Ajikan fans!
I have been a fan of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION for roughly 16 years and as a guitarist was greatly inspired by the band's alt rock sound.
After a few years of research I have written a series of "sound like" articles for ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION. The purpose of these articles is to provide context on how the band create their signature sound, and to support beginning musicians or tribute acts who may wish to replicate it.
At the end of each article I have drafted a Budget Rig, which you could use for both at home and in a live environment. I have also provided some general amp settings to tweak and try, which are based on the band's live sound and be can used to help replicate their tones.
This is a 3-part series and if you enjoy this article I would recommend checking out the other articles:
Sound Like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Pt.2: Kensuke Kita (2024 version) : AsianKungFuGeneration (reddit.com)
ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Sound Like Part 3: Yamada : AsianKungFuGeneration (reddit.com)
Please note that the article focuses on the band's live sound, which will be different to the albums and can vary depending on the venue. Also (and is a cliché every musician and instrument will have small differences, so bear that in mind!)
To help you recognise the individual guitar tones, Gotch's guitar parts are normally panned to the left earphone and Kita's are panned to the right earphone on the band's albums. (On 2016's Sol-Fa, Hometown and some of the Planet Folks singles the panning was swapped, with Gotch instead in the right ear and Kita on the left)

Masafumi Gotoh

Gotch live at the 02 Islington, London, 2013
Let's start off with lead singer and rhythm guitarist Masafumi Gotoh, or "Gotch" for short. Gotch's was massively influenced by the 90's alternative rock, Power Pop and the Britpop scene, and has previously highlighted Oasis, Weezer and Number Girl as key inspirations.
As Ajikan's main songwriter, Gotch follows the principle of "less is more" - keeping the arrangements simple for listeners, but combining pop hooks & traditional Asian melodies with the band's punk rock and indie influences.
Gotch's playing style follows this principle, as he primarily uses chord shapes, bar chords or repeated phrases to anchor the band. (The simple approach also makes it easier for Gotch to sing while performing)
Occasionally, Gotch will use "octave chords" (more on octave chords below) or play riffs with open strings notes, to add further depth. A good example of this is the opening riffs to Easter, where he plays an open D string while also playing the 3rd and 5th fret of the A string.
Octave Chords: Octave chords is famously used in punk rock and alt rock riffs, and is when you play the same note in two different octaves. Try play a bar chord on the 4th fret of the A string, and lifting your ring finger off the D string. You should get a "C# octave chord" and will recognise it from the intro of Haruka Kanata. Octave chords are used in many Ajikan songs and by many bands, so they are good to practice!
In more recent albums, Gotch has also experimented with moving chord shapes across the fretboard. For good examples, check out the opening of Caterpillar or the bridge section of Kouya Wo Aruke.
Gotch's guitar tends to be lower in the overall mix, with Kita acting as the band's lead guitarist and Gotch as the anchor for each song. However, Gotch tends to improvise with ambient sounds during live performances and occasionally will take on the lead role in songs like Hold Me Tight.

GUITARS:

When it comes to guitars Gotch almost exclusively plays Gibson Les Paul Jr's with P-90 pickups, and has been his preferred guitar since 2004. The P-90 pickups have a bright midrange sound in comparison to the muddier humbucker sound, which makes them better suited for Gotch's focus on chords.
Gotch main guitar is the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Special
The Les Paul Jr is also lighter and have less sustain and power compared to a normal Les Paul, which leaves space for the other instruments to stand out in the mix.
Gotch's main guitar is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Special, which he plays in E Standard tuning and uses for both recording and live performances. Gotch also uses a 1961 Gibson Les Paul Jr (with the pickguard missing) or a 2000 Gibson Les Paul DC (with a gloss yellow finish) for songs in Eb/D# tuning, such as After Dark or Soredewa, Mata Ashita.
Gotch's is also famous for using a 1975 Gibson Marauder during the band's early years. Gotch has mostly retired the guitar (due to the "lack of volume" for larger venues), but it regularly appears in MV's, band merchandise and occasionally during special events, such as the 10th anniversary shows in Yokohama.
Gotch's Gibson Marauder
Gotch occasionally uses a few rarer guitars live, such as the Gibson Custom Les Paul Junior John Lennon model (Gotch has number 54 of 300 such guitars made), and is normally played with a capo for songs such as Maigo Inu To Ame No Beat.
Gotch has also used a Gibson Hummingbird for acoustic numbers, and can be seen used in Eizo Sakushin Shu Vol.6 for the band's performance of Kaigan Doori. Gotch likes to use Tortex Flex .88mm & Tortex Flex Triangle .88mm guitar picks, which he swaps between depending on the song.
If you are looking to sound like Gotch, the best place to start would be a Les Paul Jr guitar with P-90 pickups.

AMPLIFIERS:

After originally touring with a Roland JC-22, Gotch has almost exclusively played Fender amplifiers since 2004. Gotch uses two amps when playing live, one for his "clean" sound and the other for his "heavy" sound.
The band's often implement a "quiet/loud" dynamic into their song writing, so Gotch will often switch between his amps during live performances, using a custom made footswitch on his pedalboard. (A good example of this is Mustang or Solanin)
For his clean tone, Gotch uses a Fender 65' Twin Custom Twin 15. It can be heard on Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa Ga Furu, Solanin and Wonder Future. Occasionally, Gotch will combine the Twin Reverb with a boost pedal or overdrive pedal for more clarity, with Wonder Future a good examples of this.
(1) Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 (clean tone), (2) Fender Vibro-King Custom, (3) Fender Super-Sonic 60 Head (which uses the Vibro-King as a speaker), (4) Fender '63 Spring Reverb (which runs in between the pedal board and the Super-Sonic 60, and is toggled on or off by a switch)
For his heavier tone, Gotch primarily uses a Fender Vibro-King Custom for recording and appears in most of the band's MV's. The Vibro-King/Twin Reverb was Gotch's main setup during the 2000's and can be seen together on Eizo Sakushin Shu Vol. 6.
In 2009 Gotch started to use a Fender Super-Sonic 60 Amp Head and still uses it now. Until 2022, Gotch would use Vibro-King as a "cabinet", acting as the speaker unit for the Super-Sonic. Gotch now uses a Shinos & L Rocket Head for live shows, but has kept the Vibro-king for recording sessions and MVs.
Since 2022 Gotch has used Shinos & L Rocket amp & cabinet instead of the Fender Vibro-King
Gotch "heavy" amps for songs such as Re:Re:, Haruka Kanata and Rewrite. It is important to note that Gotch prefers to use his amps to create his distorted tone, but will occasionally add an overdrive pedal for heavier tracks such as Blood Circulator & Easter.
Alongside the Twin Reverb and Super-Sonic, Gotch is known to use a Fender 63' Spring Reverb Unit. This unit only runs into the Super-Sonic and is used for additional reverb to "thicken the sound". Gotch can control the 63' Reverb with a on/off switch on his pedal board.
Other notable amps that Gotch has used are the Matchless C30 & Bad Cat 30R Head. Both have been used exclusively for recording, most notably on Wonder Future. Gotch is also known to use VOX AC15 amps for recording.
Gotch's '63 Spring Reverb Unit, along with a selection of Vortex Flex .88m picks
In terms of mics, Gotch seems to use a Shure SM57 for his Fender Twin Reverb and a Shure SM58 on his Vibro-King or Shinos Rocket. When you are trying to emulate his sound with modelling or profiling amps, it is worth experimenting with mic positioning and different mics.
If you want to replicate Gotch's amp sound then you should look to replicate his Fender amps. However the Vibro-King is a key component and are unfortunately rare, notoriously loud and expensive. For that reason, I have put together some alternatives that should get you close.

PEDALS & EFFECTS:

During Ajikan's early years, Gotch combined a Roland JC-22 with a ProCo RAT to create the "quiet/loud" dynamic of the band's early records. After buying the Fender Vibro-King in 2004, Gotch no longer required the RAT, but kept a simplified pedalboard to achieve certain tones for live performances.
Gotch's 2004 pedalboard, which includes the ProCo RAT and Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer
We will cover two different pedalboards that Gotch has used during the band's career. Regardless of which pedal board you look at, Gotch's has always included an overdrive or boost pedal, a phase pedal and a delay pedal.
The boost/overdrive is used to "lift" his clean sound during ballads (Solanin, Wonder Future) or to thicken his sound for heavier tracks. (Senseless, Dororo) Gotch will normally set the drive or gain low and the volume high.
The phaser is a more sparingly used pedal to add texture and colour, but can be heard on Shinkokyū, Blue Train and Rewrite. I will include more detail on Gotch's use of delay in the sections below.
Gotch's "Classic" Pedalboard
Gotch \"classic\" pedalboard, used between 2006-2013, with Gotch's custom made footswitch on the bottom left to control the amps
Gotch started to use this "classic" board during the Fanclub tour and continued to do so until the 10th Anniversary shows in 2013. This would be the easier and more affordable board to replicate for newcomers.
Gotch's setup started with a BOSS TU-3 tuner, which he also used as a "mute" pedal in between songs. From there, his chain would run into the Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer, the BOSS PH-2 Super Phaser and the BOSS DD-20 Giga Delay. During the Magic Disk tour, Gotch also added a Custom Audio Tremolo.
The BOSS DD-20 *has been Gotch's main delay pedal for twenty years and is set to "warp". On the warp setting, Gotch can keep his foot on the pedal to create swells of delays. Gotch's standard setting is 173-179bpm (beats per minute on 1/4 notes and then he has 4 presets. These are 137bpm on 1/4 (for) Blackout, 154bpm on 1/4 (for) Kakato de Ai o Uchinarase, 177 on 1/2 (for) Solanin and the intro of Siren and 177bpm on 1/4 (for the 2nd half of) Siren)
Gotch also included two footswitches for his board; The first one was a handmade footswitch, which he used to swap between the Twin Reverb and the Vibro-King/Super-Sonic. The other footswitch was a BOSS FS-5L, which he used to control the '63 Spring Reverb Unit.
Gotch's "Modern" Pedalboard
Gotch's \"modern\" pedal board.【Pedal List】(1) api/TranZformer GT (compressoequalizer) (2) BOSS/TU-3 (tuner) (3) Spaceman Effects/Atlas III (preamp) (4) BOSS/DD-6 (delay) (5) Spaceman Effects/Voyager I (tremolo) (6) EarthQuaker Devices/Avalanche Run (delay/reverb) (7) Mu-Tron/Mu-FX Phasor 2X (phaser) (8) Caroline Guitar Company/KILOBYTE (9) BOSS/DD-20 (delay) (10) Handmade/Line Selector (11) FAT/514.D (booster)(12) strymon/Zuma R300 (power supply) (13)BOSS/EV-30 (Expression Pedal) (14) BOSS/FS-5L (foot switch)
During the recording of Wonder Future and his first solo album (Can't Be Forever Young), Gotch began to experiment more with boutique pedals, and has resulted in a more complex board since 2014, allowing more ambient experiments on the band's records and during live performances.
Gotch has added a API Tranzformer GT to the start of his chain, only using the E.Q. section and tweaking the settings for each venue.
Gotch's "Modern" board now includes a variety of delay and reverb pedals, such as the Earthquaker Device Avalanche Run and the Caroline Kilobyte Lo-Fi Delay. These are combined with his DD-20 to create the ambient sounds heard on Empathy & the outro of Demachiyanagi Parallel Universe.
The BOSS DD-6 Digital Delay is set to the "reverse" mode and is used during the intro of Re:Re: and the bridge of Rewrite. Gotch has removed the Tube-Screamer from his board and has experimented with multiple alternative pedals, which includes the Xotic Effects AC Plus and JHS Superbolt.
He currently uses the Atlas III Preamp Booster and the FAT 514.D for his overdrive sounds. The 514.D only runs to the Super-Sonic to help "thicken" the distorted tone of the Super-Sonic.
Gotch has also replaced the Super Phaser with the MU-FX Phasor 2x and is using a Voyager I Spaceman for his tremolo. (UCLA & No Name are good references for the tremolo) Finally, Gotch has added an BOSS EV-30 expression pedal, which he uses to control the delay of the Avalanche Run.
If you are looking to replicate Gotch's pedalboard, the best place to start would be a phaser, delay and a boost/overdrive pedal, which would cover most of Ajikan's Discography.

Sound Like Gotch...On a Budget

Now that you are up to speed on what Gotch uses for his guitar rig, we can start to look at replicating his sound. The idea of this section is to offer affordable suggestions to replicate Gotch's tone that can be used for home use and for small live venues.
I would like to highlight that I am just writing as a fan and the equipment I recommend are purely my own recommendations. I do not have any sponsors (I wish I did sometimes) and if you find alternatives that work for you, go for it!
Gotch performing in 2022, during the Quarter Century shows in Yokohama
To buy Gotch's current pedal board alone would cost roughly £2,500 and would be unrealistic for most readers to purchase, however there are options that can get us close to Gotch's tone without breaking the bank.
The key elements to this rig are:
Let's start with the guitar, which is both important for the P-90 tone. You should always feel comfortable when playing the guitar you pick, so I recommend trying out the guitar when possible before buying.
GUITARS
As an affordable guitar, I would suggest looking at the Epiphone Les Paul Jr. It is the entry level price for Gibson guitars (Epiphone would be the equivalent to "Squier" for Fender) and includes P-90 pickups as the standard setup. You can buy one for around £380 and should also be fairly easy to modify & similar to Gotch's sound.
Epiphone Les Paul Junior
If you do have a higher budget to work with, I would recommend the Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute DC. These were released in 2019 and you can normally find a 2nd hand version for roughly £650 - £800. (It is also the guitar I currently use!) Failing that, you can also look at the Gibson Les Paul Special for around £800.
Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute DC
AMPLIFIERS
We are looking to replicate Gotch's Fender amps, so the affordable option to start with would be the Fender Mustang GTX. The newer Mustang amps are an improvement on the original and have simulations of the Twin Reverb, the Vibro-King and the Super-Sonic.
The GTX 50 (which has a smaller speaker) is roughly £390 and the GTX 100 (which includes a footswitch) is about £510, but you should be able to find both versions for a reduced cost second hand.
Fender Mustang GTX 100
If you do have a higher budget or prefer to use a tube amp, I would recommend going for the Fender Super-Sonic Combo or the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for a solid distorted Fender tone.
Alternatively, you could consider the Fender Blues Junior, Fender Tone Master Twin-Reverb or Roland JC, and combine them with a ProCo RAT to replicate the tones from Houkai Amplifier and Kimi Tsunagi Five M.
PEDALS
To keep the list of suggestions short and simple, we will use Gotch's "classic" board as a reference and will cover most of the band's discography.
For a budget rig, I would recommend the Ibanez Tube-Screamer Mini, which is a miniature version of the standard Ibanez Tube-Screamer and sound great for the price. You could pair this up with a Boss Phase Shifter and a BOSS DD-6 Delay for around £309 brand new to get a very similar Gotch board. (You could buy them for as low as £110 combined on the 2nd hand market)
The Tube Screamer Mini is a cheap, effective overdrive pedal based on the classic TS808
For a more expensive pedalboard, the JHS Superbolt V2 was used by Gotch extensively between 2015-2019 and was once described by Gotch as "the Ajikan sound" on his blog. You could also buy the TS808 Tube Screamer that Gotch actually used for many years or the JHS Bonsai 9 which emulates multiple tube screamers.
For modulation sounds (phase, tremolo) the AmpliTube X-Vibe is one of many great multi-effect pedal on the market. If you have the money for it, you could buy a BOSS DD-20 second hand or the BOSS DD-200 to emulate Gotch's delay sound.
If you decided to go with the Mustang GTX, you would also have a selection of effects built into the amp.
THE TONE MASTER PRO? (and amp simulators)
As a final recommendation, Fender have recently released the Tone Master Pro (TMP), which is a multi effects and amp simulator.
It can be used as a device for home recording, but also as multi effects pedal in front of a standard amp or as your main amplifier when played through a IR cabinet. (I'll go into more detail in a bit!) The TMP are not cheap at £1400, so I would only advise buying one if you plan to use it as your main amp and effects board.
If you have the budget and was starting your rig from scratch I would consider checking it out, as it includes great simulations of the Twin Reverb and Vibro-King. They are also easy to transport & the Fender IR cabinets only weigh 12.5kg. (For comparison, my VOX AC15 weighs 30kg and is a nightmare to transport for shows)
The TMP is Fender's first amp simulator pedal and from what I understand the Quad Cortex DSP, the Line 6 Helix series and the Headrush Pedalboard are more popular choices. However, for the purpose of "sounding like Gotch", I would start with the TMP for its Fender selection and simplicity
The Fender Tone Master Pro can be used to simulate multiple amps & as a pedalboard for live performances
If you decide to buy a Amp Simulator Pedal, there are 3 common ways to use it for band practices & live settings. (Outside of just using headphones or running straight to front of house at a venue:
Option 1: Only use the effects on the Amp Simulator and run it into a standard amp .** (Make sure to not use the cabinets settings within the pedal when doing this. You could still use the amp settings, however they may clash with the physical amps and do not always sound great
Option 2: Use the Amp Simulator as your main amp and combining with a standard guitar cabinet. In order to do this, you will need to buy a separate power amp pedal to run in between the amp simulator and the guitar cabinet. (Otherwise you will not have any volume or oomph when you play through the cabinet\*)*
Option 3: Buy a IR Cabinet. The difference between this and Option 2 is that you would not need to buy a separate power amp pedal to run into the speaker. The Fender FR-10/12 & Line 6 Powercab are good examples.

Recommended Amp Settings

The following amp settings are based on photos gathered from live performances or from photos of Gotch's social media. Every amp will slightly differ based on your guitar or playing style, so you may need to tweak with your settings to find the right blend.
My personal advice is to not put the gain too high and to start with getting the treble and bass settings where you feel comfortable, before tweaking the mids. The P-90s have a strong midrange attack, so bear that in mind as well.

2024.05.14 16:22 lykwydchykyn WTT/WTS: A Pedal-licious Pile of Hoopy Homestyle! Drives, Filters, Amps, and Fuzz, plug'em in and feel the love.

Spring is winding down, summer's on it's way; would love to get a little cash to fund the summer fun (and the next parts order). Still, trades are always on the table. Don't be shy with the cheapies.
TLDR
I got:
I want:
DIY STUFF
(If you are NOT into handmade stuff, scroll down because I have some other items at the end.)
This is hand-built stuff that I made, mostly relatively unique or heavily tweaked designs built on vero or point to point. Many are housed in upcycled tins, a few in Hammond boxes. They all run on standard 9v pedal power. These aren't clones for the most part, unless they are; but normally I actually monkey about with the circuits quite a bit or just test out wacky ideas. If you want something nobody else has, you're in the right place…
I have the handmades valued in 4 tiers:
MOBILE USERS: There are 4 columns in the tables below: Name, Tier, Links, and Notes. If you don't see all 4, scroll over or ask for more info.
Fuzzes
Name Tier Links Notes
Bazz Me Fuss You #1 A PIC DEMO A bazz-fussified perversion of the Escobedo push-me-pull-you, featuring controls for octave and volume. This is the first unit I've built using my own custom PCB. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks.
Space Fuzz B+ PIC DEMO This is a Hollis crash sync fuzz that I souped up with an LFO to modulate the filtesync frequency. Really wild flangery/phasey type gated fuzz sound. At the right settings you can get some octave-down effects as well. Housed in a ~3.5 inch square game tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Pretty pleased with this build.
SwirlFuzz B+ PIC DEMO Modulated octave fuzz prototype. It's an octave fuzz, but you can switch on an LFO to modulate the octave amount. Controls for Rate, Depth, Gain, and Volume, plus switches for waveshape and mode (Normal/Octave/Modulated). In a circular tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Baller Fuzz B PIC DEMO Another Bazz-Me-Fuss-You build with an added BMP-style tone control. In a slightly beaten-up heart-shaped basketball tin. Y'all ready for this?
Big Green Fuzz for Attractive Bass Players B PIC Demo Like my bazz-me-fuss-you circuit, but with a big muff tone stack, a clean blend, and optional clippers for more compression. Housed in a big round tin reinforced with recycled plastic and designed specifically for attractive bass players. Unattractive ones may not really gel with this.
Creature from the planet Chyowngg B PIC Demo Prototype of a unique fuzz I've been developing that I call the Chyowngg fuzz. It's a 2-stage octaver that gives a bright synthy tone with a distinctive envelope (hence the name). You can toggle each stage from octave to non-octave mode for a variety of interesting timbres. Also has a tone control, but the tone control is before the octave stages so it results in interesting behaviors depending on the switch settings. It's in a tin meant to be painted like an alien, though some say it looks more like a triceratops.
Dumbo's Bazzrite Fussrite C PIC Demo A bazz-fussified mosrite fuzzrite circuit I cobbled together in point-to-point wiring style. Housed in a little Dumbo puzzle tin with GLITTER! Controls are for balance (kind of tone-cum-gain) and volume.
Wiff Spwinkles on Top C PIC Demo This point-to-point fuzz lives in the same neighborhood as the Harmonic Percolator, but has a few differences. I altered the way the gain knob works, and added a switch to toggle bass cut. It's housed in an ice-creamity welly tin.
Drives, Distortions, and Boosts
Name Tier Links Notes
Bronze Drive A PIC Demo This is a point-to-point, transistor based overdrive I designed based loosely on the Davisson Easy Drive. Good for low-gain crunchy tones and plenty of output volume on tap if you want it for a boost. Tone circuit is like a BMP stack but with a mid hump instead of a mid cut. Housed in a painted 125B.
Copper ZenerMorph Drive B PIC Demo This is an experiment in zener diode clipping. Nice crispy drive that gets beefier as you turn up the gain, lots of good edge-of-breakup tones to be had. Housed in a decorated tin reinforced with some recycled plastic.
Shining Hope Drive B PIC Demo Differential mirroring drive, gives a kind of overdriven-mixer-channel distortion. Controls for gain, tone, and volume. Housed in a star-shaped Christmas tin.
B is for Beast C PIC DEMO This fun little drive/boost consists of two cascading MOSFET gain stages with optional clipping in between. It goes from clean and loud to massive wall-of-gain distortion nicely. Controls for gain, clipping, and volume. In a small heart-shaped tin about 4in by 4in.
Green Sparkler Boost D PIC Just an Escobedo Duende JFET boost built point-to-point in a sparkly little round tin. Gives a little gain and a bit of warmth to the tone.
Non-Dirt
Name Tier Links Notes
Quack like a penguin B+ PIC DEMO Third build of the Chykka Wakka, a WIP all-transistor envelope filter. This one is built on vero, and features controls for Q, Range, and Attack, as well as toggles for Voicing and envelope smoothing. Housed in a smallish penguin tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Gift of Chykka Wakka B PIC DEMO First build of an all-transistor envelope filter I designed. Built point-to-point style and housed in a little giftbox tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Controls for Q and Sweep, switch toggles envelope smoothing.
Vortex of Funk B PIC DEMO Second build of the Chykka-Wakka circuit, this one features attack, Q, and range controls. Built point-to-point and housed in a painted tin.
BZZZ BOOP BEEP B PIC DEMO A basic square wave oscillator on a momentary switch. Can go from bzzz to boop to beep with a sweep of the big knob. Also has tone and volume controls, and a 3-way switch for different decay amounts. Use it to simulate a spring door stopper or dying cow. Or bleep your foul-mouthed frontman. Or mess with the sound guy. Or send Morse code to the bar. I dunno. Housed in a painted tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Little Amps
Name Price/Trades Links Description
Ample iMank $65 PICS DEMO This is a Runoffgroove Ruby Amplifier built into this old multimedia speaker enclosure designed to look like an old iMac. Glows blue when you turn it on. It runs from a standard 9v pedal power. It's not terribly loud, nor terribly clean, but if you dig the classic mac vibe it might be fun. Controls for gain and volume, and a power switch on the back.
Nosy Amp $75 PICS DEMO Another solid-state amp based on the Ruby amplifier, housed in a repurposed bookshelf speaker. This one actually has pretty decent volume, even on 9V (can run on 12V as well for more), and can stay clean while getting loud enough for a quiet jam with friends.
Fleur-de-Lis Amp $90 PICS DEMO A tiny bookshelf speaker turned into a practice amp. This one features a class D power amp for lovely cleans, and a custom designed discrete preamp that gets punchy & crunchy when cranked. Runs on 9V but pretty loud nonetheless.
Non-DIY Stuff
Make an offer. I respect Reverb Price Guide values, though I may lean high if it's a feeler.
Brand Name Condition Notes
Danelectro Fab Chorus Excellent Cheap plastic chorus, but sounds great. Probably just a make-weight, too cheap to trade on its own.
Caline 10-band EQ Good Works fine, I just don't really need 10 bands of EQ. Has velcro on the back, and sometimes makes a weird noise when you turn on the pedalboard. Another make-weight.
Ibanez PH7 Good Tonelok phaser. Great pedal, has some glue on the bottom I couldn't get off, but works fine.
BOSS TU-12H Good Crusty vintage tuner from Boss. Still works great, but it's missing the outer case (still has the inner part). If you had one in the day and want to relive the magic, feel free to make an offer.
Digitech RP360 Very Good Great multifx, I've gotten some fun sounds out of it, but it isn't seeing much use. I'm just more of a discrete FX guy I guess.
MOTU MIDI express Good This is an antique MIDI patchbay and interface. It's pre-USB and uses the parallel cable (PC) or some kind of Apple-specific DIN cable (Mac). Could be used standalone, or maybe you're into retro MIDI setups? Comes with box and cables anyway.
unknown builder PedalPCB Cataclysm Very Good This is a really solid build of a PedalPCB cataclysm (Disaster Transport Jr clone) built by someone other than me. Pics here. Not sure what to value it, but make an offer.
Local (Nashville TN area) ONLY
Brand Name Condition Notes
TEAC A3340S 4-Track Reel-to-Reel Good Cleaned up, oiled up, and in good working order last time I tried it out. Meant to do some analog recording, but just haven't gotten the time or space. Would trade for a decent instrument of some kind. Might even throw in a copy of Craig Anderton's "Home Recording for Musicians", which uses the same unit.
Altec-Lansing Power amp (9442A) Fair 300 W, 2 rack-unit power amp, can work in stereo or bridged mode. Last time I used it one of the channels was a little flaky. Couldn't be bothered to fix it myself. Heavy as all get out, I'll sell for cheap if you're local.
What would I trade for??
I'm wide open to trades for music gear of all kinds and other items of value.
Some Priority Wants:
Other things I'd likely trade for:
Probably not wants (doesn't apply to C or D-tier builds, offer anything for those):
A Note about mods/repairs/custom jobs: Feel free to shoot me your ideas, but probably I'm leaning toward not doing these. Expect to pay/trade way more for something custom than what I ask for the pedals I've already built.

2024.05.13 06:09 sfgirlmary Monday Meeting of the Sober People Getting Shit Done Club: NINE YEARS SOBER edition

This week, I am thrilled to celebrate nine years of sobriety. I would like to tell my story through the lens of making art, which to me is the ultimate in productivity.
I come from a long line of heavy drinkers, so it’s no surprise I became a heavy drinker, too. By the time I was in my late 40s, my life had spiraled completely out of control. I was drinking from the moment I woke up in the morning to the moment I went to bed (and then again during the night, when I woke up because I was going into withdrawal). I had lost my job because of my drinking, I was well on my way to losing my home, and I was barely able to function in day-to-day life. All of my hopes and dreams were gone – including a lifelong dream of making art.
In May 2015, I went into acute liver failure and was forced to spend 10 days in the hospital, where liters of fluid were drained from my swollen abdomen. I was told that I had cirrhosis and a 50-50 chance of dying within the next few months – even if I stopped drinking that very day. I stopped anyway.
After being a heavy, daily drinker for 25 years, having to suddenly start living without alcohol was shocking to my system and also extremely difficult. For the first year, I simply tried to make it through each day. I felt very unstable in my sobriety, like I was trying to remain upright on a slender balance beam, and I felt that I might fall at any moment. Only the horror of what the doctors had told me kept me from drinking again.
About a year after my hospital stay, I decided on a whim to try a collage class that was held in a remote part of San Francisco, out by the ocean. I had never particularly wanted to do collage – in fact, I might have even looked down on it a little. But the linocut printing class I really wanted to take was full, so I tried collage – and the moment my X-acto blade cut into paper, something amazing happened: the clouds of heaven parted, and the angels blew on their brass horns. I thought, “This is the feeling I have been looking for all my life.” (Years later, I watched a documentary about a woodblock carver, and he said exactly the same thing about the first time he put a chisel into wood.)
I threw myself into making painted-paper landscape collages like it was a life raft I was clinging to in a choppy sea. With all the extra time and energy that sobriety gave me, and desperate as I was for something to help me keep from drinking again, I devoted myself to developing my own style and refining my collage technique, which gave my days value and purpose – and something else to obsess about other than the fact that I now had to live life without alcohol.
Nine years later, not only am I still alive and never needed the liver transplant they told me I’d have to get, but I also regularly sell my artwork and get commissions. My days are full of joy and meaning – and it no longer feels as if life is passing me by in an alcoholic blur. (And also, over time, my liver has healed to the point that my hepatologist recently told me, “Your liver is basically normal at this point.”) Composing, making, and framing my pieces, and hanging art shows is a huge amount of work that has played a pivotal role in keeping me sober, and learning about art and going to see the work that other artists make gives me a deep and genuine pleasure that no glass of vodka could ever give me.
When I lay in that hospital bed while a doctor informed me that I was probably going to die soon, I truly felt that my time on this earth was almost over. I had no idea of the great joy that awaited me, as well as the delight and satisfaction that both being sober and making art would bring into the second half of my life. Thank you all for being on this journey with me.
If you are sober and have been getting shit done—whether it’s a big thing like rebuilding the engine of an old motorcycle or a small thing like making that long overdue phone call to your grandmother—I want to hear all about it!

Amplifiespeaker
Help.. So I'm planning on getting speakers and a amp for my car. Components in front and coaxial in back. Maybe a sub maybe not. Depends on speakers sounds. I don't understand the RMS and all that 2ohm or 4ohm. Aftermarket Speakers are usually 4ohm so I go by that number I assume. Idk, confused. If this is the amp I got what would I want my speakers to be? All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

2024.05.09 12:54 Widespreaddd DAC to power amp — I like it!

Thanks to good info on this sub, I learned that I could connect my DAC directly to my power amp, without a preamp. So I removed my Parasound pre from the chain and connected my Topping E-50 DAC straight to my Arcam PA240 amp, using the Topping remote for volume control.
It made a clear difference, pun intended. Piano sounds clearer, and there is more high-end detail in general. Right now I am using an SE connection, but I just ordered some TRS to XLR balanced cables, which should let me stay in Class A mode to slightly higher sound levels.
As an old dude who hasn’t kept up with digital audio, this sub has been very educational. 👏👏👏

2024.05.08 01:11 _Met4L_ Denon X3400H ARC Audio not working all sudden

I tried everything , but audio from TV AUDIO not working anymore. I have a samsung tv , ARC worked flawlessy for years with the same receiver and same tv. From yesterday when i go to TV AUDIO from receiver , i can control my AVR with TV remote control , i can turn off the tv and the receiver instantly shut down itself, but audio stopped working. If i use an Amazon Fire Stick in any of my HDMI input the audio works correctly.
I checked my tv settings, the receiver is recognized , and the settings are the same that worked for years. I tried to reset my received holding power button + (tuner +) and (tuner - ) until initialized appears; i tried unplug power cord of tv and avr, but nothing worked.
I double checked avr settinga, ARC is ON , and i tried to turn the Control setting of the AVR both off and on. I checked the hdmi was connected in the correct port( hdmi 1 arc for avr , and arc hdmi for samsung ).
What could have happened? Im desperate.

2024.05.06 11:28 RPHmusic Board Sounds

Board Sounds
Inverted Cross Audio Octaver > Bad Stone Phaser > Klon/Bluesbreaker (custom made by Magnetic Effects) > Magnetic Effects Dual Drive (Rat left, Tubescreamer right) > Inverted Cross Audio OCD clone > Magnetic Effects White Atom Fuzz > Analogworm Triangle Chorus > Strymon Deco w/ fave switch from Bright Onion > Strymon El Capistan w/ fave switch from Bright Onion > Strymon Flint with expression controller (for trem speed) from Bright Onion > TC Ditto Looper.
This all then runs into a Black Lodge Delay/Verb from Homenoise Effects that sits next to my Victory v4 Duchess amp. Tube preamp, solid-state power section into a 1x12 creamback loaded speaker. I'm using York Audio 2x12 creamback IRs in Torpedo Wall of Sound.
Ditto Looper is replaced by a tuner when playing live and I also often swap out the White Atom for a Muff style pedal which I have far too many of!
In the video at the start you're hearing the Deco tape saturation which is always on. The OCD clone as main drive which is being boosted by the Klon.

I was digging through some old photos and came across a pic of my first "home theater" setup. This was in an apartment I was living in around 1989.
Fronts: JBL L110T
Center: Infinity (unknown model) a guy I knew at an A/V store found someone else so we could split a pair of Infinity bookshelves, it was impossible to find dedicated centers at the time.
Rears: (Not pictured) JBL Pro III's on camera tripods
Sub: None. Wasn't really necessary the JBL 110t's had 12 inch woofers.
Preamp/Processor: Pioneer Elite C-90 Reference I Loved this thing! Wish I still had it.
Power Amp (Front L+R): Hafler DH500 250 wpc, this thing was a beast.
Center Channel Power Amp: Fosgate: (Unknown model) Mono Power Amp
Rear Power Amp: (Unknown): Some (Sansui?) integrated amp that could be separated and used as a power amp.
LaserDisc/CD Player: Pioneer can't remember which model, it was just below the one that could play both sides without having to flip the disc over, just couldn't afford that one.
Turntable: Dual CS5000 various Grado and Shure cartridges
TV: NEC 27" (model unkown) This was BIG back then. I replaced it with a Sony rear projection model a year or two later and moved the A/V rack off to the side.
VHS VCR: NEC (HiFi) (Model unknown) VHS PQ sucked but the sound quality was excellent!
Cassette Deck: Onkyo (unknown model) it was a dual bay recordeplayer that had an IR remote which was pretty cool.
Tuner: Sony (Unkown model) Hey you had to have a tuner back then, radio was actually pretty good.
Headphones: STAX SR40 These were electrostatic and I had these wired to the Hafler, it had a built-in switcher for speakers/headphones. They could take the juice and needed it.
CATV (descrambler) Box: Got this from one of those ads in the back of an A/V magazine, it got every Premium channel and all the PPV fights back then (the Mike Tyson heavyweight era).
A/V Stand: Custom-made. My friend was a welder and I came up with a plan and he welded it up for me. If you look close under the turntable there is extra framing that had spikes that held the platform for the turntable.
In case your wondering, yes, I was a nightmare of a neighbor and I feel bad about that now. But man, did I have fun!

Connect a deck to a CD player
Hello, I apologize in advance if I don’t know what I’m saying or it doesn’t make sense. But, I have a TEAC MC-80 and I was wondering if there was any way to connect any newer dual cassette decks to the player itself. Although im not sure if I need to buy an amp since it does state on the front that it is an amp. Sorry again if this is just common sense and I don’t know anything about this myself.

2024.05.02 02:23 Bill-NM FireTV Cube - voice control of xfinity streaming app? Or xfinity cable box? Or OTA tuner?

It's mandatory that my mom be able to use voice control for everything. She has limited dexterity to use a remote.
She has an Omni FireTV in one room and does ok with it. She exclusively watches OTA TV using an antenna running into the back of the TV, by telling Alexa to turn the TV on/off, change the channel, and change the volume. That's it. That's all she needs.
She also wants to use her computer monitor in another room to watch live TV - so pairing the FireTV Cube to the monitor looks like a possible answer.
But...
Will she be able to change channels using the Cube?
I see three possibilities...
1) plugging an antenna into the Cube - don't know if that's possible - does it have an OTA tuner?
2) plugging an xfinity cable box into the Cube and using the Cube to voice control the cable box, like "Alexa, channel 2".
3) using the xfinity stream app with the Cube - will Alexa be able to change channels within the xfinity app?
Thanks very much.

2024.04.30 16:14 lykwydchykyn I want to trade some things I made to mangle up your sound; and what I yearn for in return is what you've lying around.

The Cliff's notes version of the post:
I got:
I want:
Chapter 1: In which I make a few glib blandishments about whatnot
May Day May Day! Oh wait, that's tomorrow. Hope everyone is enjoying springtime. Still hoping to get some spring cleaning done, to move out some of these pedals to make room for those half-finished projects lingering on my bench. All trade offers are welcome, though I'd be happy if anyone wanted to offer some cash because I need to do a couple parts orders here soon.
Chapter 2: In which I describe my hand-made musical devices for trade
(If you are NOT into handmade stuff, scroll down to chapter 3 because I have some other items at the end.)
Avengers Fuzz 2 TRADE IN PROGRESS C PIC Demo A harmonic percolator-based fuzz with three modes: "Captain America" mode gives a modest fuzz with good cleanup; "Hulk and Thor" mode is a fat, saxy fuzz with modest gating; "Iron Man mode" is a compressed high-gain fuzz with heavy gating. Housed in a puzzle tin with the Avengers on it.
Happy ChrizzMuss Tree Fuzz TRADE IN PROGRESS C PIC Demo Another gated double-bazz-fuss type fuzz, this one features a bias knob for adjusting the bias of the first stage and a bass boost switch. Housed in a Christmas tree tin.
Droid Love Syntheficationatorifyer TRADED A PIC DEMO A dirty, raw sounding guitar synth based on the Escobedo Square shaper and the Nurse Quacky. It converts your guitar to a synth wave that can vary from saw to square with the "shape" knob, then runs it through an envelope filter with adjustable sensitivity, range, attack, and cutoff. The switch smooths the envelope, and the envelope can either be taken from the dry signal (default) or from the sidechain input on the side. An LFO can also be routed to cutoff for some wub wub. All this is housed in a heart-shaped R2D2 tin.
Tacklebox Vibes TRADED B PIC DEMO A prototype vibe/phase/ring-mod sort of circuit I've been working on. A little difficult to tame, but full of neat sounds. Built on vero, housed in a fishing-themed tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Chapter 3: In which I list my Non-DIY Stuff
Pics here. Not sure who built it, nor is the person I got it from, nor am I sure what to value it, but make an offer if you like it.
Chapter 4: In which I describe what would I trade for
I'm wide open to trades for music gear of all kinds and other items of value.
Some Priority Wants:
Other things I'd likely trade for:
Probably not wants (doesn't apply to C or D-tier builds, offer anything for those):
Epilogue
A Note about mods/repairs/custom jobs: Feel free to shoot me your ideas, but probably I'm leaning toward not doing these. Expect to pay/trade way more for something custom than what I ask for the pedals I've already built.
And now, with apologies to Jon Postel's Robustness Principle, I leave you with these words:
"Be conservative in what you WTT, liberal in what you WTTF."

2024.04.30 10:43 Haahr In need of stereo preamp with XLR, toslink and remote control

Hi.
I currently have a Parasound C2 receiver hooked up with my two component amplifiers and speakers. I really like the amps and the speakers, so I want to keep them. However the Parasound C2 is huge overkill for my needs and I can't find a spot for it in my living room. I would like to replace it with something smaller in size and with less inputs and outputs. My replacement would need to have two toslink inputs, one stereo XLR input and one stereo XLR output plus a remote control. I have been searching quite a bit but can't seem to find a good fit. Does this exist?
Thanks in advance :)

2024.04.29 20:15 Dadbod1018 Nitrous in street driving.

I’m cheap. Want to add power. Nitrous is by far the least expensive way to accomplish this, BUT, the tuner I spoke with said that my nitrous tune will pull timing at night RPM, and actually cost me 10-15 horsepower when the system isn’t armed…
I’d like to hear from people who have nitrous on their cars, and hear your experience with leaving the system armed for extended periods.
My intention would be to run a remote bottle opener, so the system could Literally be armed and ready to use with just a few switches flipped, and purging the lines.
I would like to know how long it would typically take to bring the bottle temp up, so I have proper pressure. Would it be bad to run the bottle heater on a separate circuit than the purge and solenoid controls so the bottle is always heated to the proper pressure?
Thanks.

2024.04.27 20:37 remember_khitomer Lyr+ or Saga+ w/Asgard?

I'm going from a headphone-centric setup with my Asgard to a speaker-focused setup but I want to keep the ability to still use headphones. I'm planning to pick up a Ghorn for the speakers, and I want to be able to remote control the volume so I'll need a remote-controlled preamp in front of the Ghorn, which I think means either Saga+ or Lyr+.
The idea would be either:
Source into Saga+, into Ghorn on output 1 and Asgard on output 2, or
Source into Lyr+ into Ghorn
I only expect to ever have a single source (Wiim streamer) so the extra inputs on Saga+ do nothing for me. If I get the Lyr+, I could sell the Asgard to recover some of the additional cost. I really like the Asgard though - would I be happy with the Lyr+?
Any other ideas I should be considering?

2024.04.27 00:13 JoshKuribo Games lagging/jittering, not on PC, only on steam link + how I used an ethernet cable to connect my PC directly into the steam link

How I used an ethernet cable to connect my PC directly into the steam link:
I started using my steam link a while back and hated that there was input latency and visual artifacts due to it relying on a reliable internet connection. So I did some research and found out you can connect the steam link directly into your pc with an ethernet cable allowing for no input latency and much higher visual fidelity. All I did was buy a 10 meter CAT 6 ethernet cable (any longer and I ran into some loss in picture) connect it from my steam link to my computer using a ethernet to usb adapter (my motherboard's ethernet port was taken up by the internet cable, but using that should still work if you use WIFI on your computer). On the computer go to the Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network Connections. Then on this screen you should see (once your steam link is on) your steam link ethernet cable. Right click on your computers ethernet, click properties, sharing, and then check the box that says "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection", click okay, turn off your steam link, turn it back on and then it should just say ready. It does have some hiccups like the steam link will not be able to connect to internet sometimes, but all you gotta do is do the control panel steps again, unckeck the box, click okay, then check it again and click okay. That should fix it.
Games lagging, not on PC, only on steam link:
So now you know how my computer and steam link are connected, onto my problem. Ever since I've been using my steam link I've noticed some games will run perfectly fine, 60fps 1080p (that's all I really need for my other TV) but I've also noticed that some random games just lags/jitters or shows a still image of the game but I can still hear the audio. I test the games out on my pc alone and they work perfectly, running great with no lag. But on the steam link it says it's running at 60fps through RivaTuner but the game feels jittery. It's not a latency issue either due to me connecting my PC directly to my Steam Link and as I said, other games have worked amazing. Here's a list of the good ones that run fine and the bad ones that lag.
To me, this lists seems random. Lowing the quality of the games does make them feel less jittery, which doesn't make sense because I've got a 4070 ti SUPER. Can't find any answers online, do any of you smarter people know what's going on and if I can fix it? Thanks!
My Equipment: Graphics card - 4070 ti SUPER Processor - Ryzen 5 5600X
Steam Remote Play Settings: Dynamically adjust capture resolution to improve performance - On Use NVFBC capture on NVIDIA GPU - On Video - Beautiful Bandwith Limit - 75 MB/s Framerate Limit - 60fps Hardware Decoding - On HEVC Video - On Low Latency Networking - On

2024.04.26 02:03 AffectionateLunch775 How Can I Add Remote Control for Volume?

How Can I Add Remote Control for Volume?
I have a Fluance RT85N connected to an Art DJ Pre II preamp and Fosi Audio TB10A 2 Channel amp, and I’m trying to figure out a way I can add some sort of remote control for the volume without adding anything in the chain that might degrade sound quality. I can manually adjust gain, treble/bass on the amp & preamp, I just need to be able to turn the entire thing up and down via remote control.
Any suggestions?

2024.04.23 07:35 Unbreakable_strength CT Idea: Divine Journey

This CT holds MANY (MANY!) sub-abilities, so be prepared. I'm also having a hard time gaging how OP this may be, so lmk.
Cursed Technique -
MAJOR ARCANA
-The fool 0: this card is always pulled first no matter what and does nothing special (besides that all of them have the base capability to cut shit). Since it is always pulled first, it does not need to be reshuffled, and is the only card that can be constantly used outside of shuffling.
-The Magician 1: small objects and particles gravitate to the card like sigma's rock ability from overwatch.
-The High Priestess 2: becomes invisible upon release.
-The Empress 3: upon release, seperates into 3 cards.
-The Emperor 4: grows 3x size upon release and cuts through almost anything.
-The Hierophant 5: sends a shockwave through physical objects to hit enemy.
-The Lovers 6: if the card hits an enemy, they immediately look at the user with more fondness.
The Chariot 7: can be stopped in midair once indefinetly whenever desired, then when restarted it can go in any direction.
-Strength 8: emits a blinding light upon release.
-The Hermit 9: gets faster the farther it moves.
-Wheel of Fortune 10: Can go through objects, only hitting desired target.
-Justice 11: has increased damage depending on how much was done to user.
-The Hanged Man 12: causes whatever it hits to float up a bit like it has no gravity.
-Death 13: disrupts CE momentarily on contact.
-Temperance 14: the card acts like a magnifying glass concentrating light into a laser beam and shooting it in a straight line in whatever direction the bottom side of the card is facing.
-The Devil 15: if the card hits the enemy, they will be compelled to do something reckless.
-The Tower 16: the card moves slower in the air. If it hits the enemy, their CE output will be completely locked momentarily.
-The Star 17: Tracks enemy CE like homing missile
-The Moon 18: temporarily lowers FOV on contact.
-The Sun 19: user can teleport where card lands or in its course.
-Judgment 20: explodes on landing.
-The World 21: appears golden, and becomes a copy of any desired card.
MINOR ARCANA
-Ace of Cups: poison the target on contact.
-Cups 2-10: user can teleport the card once in midair at different directions, angles, etc. keeps it trajectory though (like if its already curving midair).
-Ace of Wands: sucks people close like a black hole, but isnt a black hole.
-Wands 2-10: are on fire, and catch fire to whatever they touch.
-Ace of Pentacles: moves faster then regular cards and acts like a blunt object rather than sharp, leaving crators in objects and people that it hits.
-Pentacles 2-10: while in the air, these cards can be replaced by near by objects, the biggest being the size of a small car.
-Ace of Swords: makes things deflate like a balloon. same for people, but if they clog the hole long enough, all deflation will be reverted.
-Swords 2-10: follows predetermined trajectory, even if illogical.
MINOR ARCANA: COURT CARDS (4 of each)
-Cups court cards: floods enemy body with water on contact, making them feel bloated and they vomit lots of water for like 5 seconds.
-Wands court cards: turns enemy colour blind momentarily on contact and in a really over the top way too.
-Pentacles court cards: repluses non-organic matter like a liquid within a quickly lesseing diameter starting at 6m.
-Swords court cards: Shoots numerous small blades in all directions randomly while in the air.
* anything that says "for the remainder of the fight" or a derivative of that, means until the CT is dispelled from the user (they won or died), or they and the enemy agree to pull cards again *
* Whenever it says "user", it does not mean the CT user, but the person for whom the card is attached *
MAJOR ARCANA
-The fool 0: Guarantees that the next action the person takes, gives them the upperhand/advantage in the fight, but just for that one attack (so it's possible that they're forced into a disadvantage immediately afterwards, or it could change the flow of the fight in their favor).
-The Magician 1: automatically fulfills requirements for the next cursed technique or if not possible, completely replenishes CE (or boosts if not much was used).
-The High Priestess 2: Alerts you of an enemy weakness.
-The Empress 3: heals the next infliction of damage that causes an open wound (paper cut to hole in chest).
-The Emperor 4: the next CT ability used is a free "maximum output" or guaraunteed black flash.
-The Hierophant 5: Like Neji from naruto, gain a perfect image in mind of the suroundings, in a 1 km radius (know where everything is, plan out where to lead opponent, etc.).
-The Lovers 6: Gain knowledge on what the enemies next attack will be, any how they're going to do it.
-The Chariot 7: permanent slight increase in speed (until end of fight).
-Strength 8: pauses time for 10 seconds, but you cant move except you head and eyes.
-The Hermit 9: teleport into enemy blindspot.
-Wheel of Fortune 10: user becomes very lucky momentarily, maybe their next attack lands when it shouldn't have, environmental factors cause reduced damage of the enemies next attack, or they miss entirely.
-Justice 11: the next damage done to user is completely duplicated and reflected
-The Hanged Man 12: causes enemy to reflect users bodily movements momentarily
-Death 13: for the remainder of the fight, the user transforms into their perfect soul form (-SPOILER- like mahito's final transormation, i'm pretty sure it applies to everybody)
-Temperance 14: for the remainder of the fight, the users third eye opens and the essentially get a nerfed 6 eyes
-The Devil 15: you can read the mid of the enemy and communicate with them via telepathy for the remainder of the fight
-The Tower 16: If willed by the user, time will be rewound up to a minute. They will forget everything as well except a one sentence (10 words max) message from themselves.
-The Star 17: free use of maximum technique
-The Moon 18: temporarily teleports user and next CE source they touch to a minecraft superflat, where the ground is stone and the sky is pitch black void.
-The Sun 19: temporarily invincible.
-Judgment 20: guillotine illusion falls on enemy, and they freeze in place momentarily.
-The World 21: appears golden, and becomes a copy of any desired card.
MINOR ARCANA
-Ace of Cups: The enemy must offer you something (including binding vows), until then the user has increases CE output.
-Cups 2: switch CT's with enemy momentarily.
-Cups 3: switch a chosen wound with enemy.
-cups 4: summons veil of mist around the user, and they see through it the best.
-Cups 5: able to project a pulse from the hand that redirects an oncoming attack.
-Cups 6: gives user a watefluid like CE trait for remainder of fight. interpret that as you will.
-Cups 7: for a period of time, neither the user or the opponent can harm each other, they must insult and argue with each other, and if the user agrues better then the opponent will be damage.
-Cups 8: user can create an illusion of their choice momentarily, it can move.
-Cups 9: something the user desires for the fight appears far away with a time limit. if they get there in time they get to keep it for the fight, if not, it disappears.
-Cups 10: negative emotions like fear and anxiety pour out of user into glob and can put into enemy for a mental health debuff.
-Ace of Wands: create moving illusion duplicate of oneself, and remain invisible until it is dissolved (by attack).
-Wands 2: You choose a specific action, if the enemy does it, then they light on fire.
-Wands 3: User can pull enemy closer to them like they have the force.
-Wands 4: User gains a permanent increase in CE output as long as they have the high ground.
-Wands 5: allowes user to hit the 3 weakest points on an enemies body to disrupt their CE flow.
-Wands 6: gives user a fire/heat like CE trait for remainder of fight. interpret that as you will.
-Wands 7: user becomes super slipper and slimy, until they don't want to.
-Wands 8: user is given in their mind three different strategies to choose from, one guaratees a hit, the other are just made up, so they might. The only they choose is mapped out visually infront of them.
-Wands 9: next time the user is taken by surpise, they freeze in place but switch places with an enemy.

-Pentacles 3: summon flying watersnake shikigami that spits deadly venom.
-Pentacles 4: summons light weight but fairly sturdy armor that disappears segmentationally if broken.
-Pentacles 5: user is faster on ground, because the earth pushes back on their feet.
-Pentacles 6: gives user an dense/tough like CE trait for remainder of fight. interpret that as you will.
-Pentacles 7: spawn a hidden landmine the explodes on touch into greenery and plantlife that entangle that person.
-Pentacles 8: summon sledge hammer that disappears if anyone else grabs it.
-Pentacles 9: Summon fat, hairy, spherical, big nose and eyed, goblin thing that has claws and jumps far.
-Pentacles 10: summon 5 shuriken. same stipulation as pent. 8.
-Ace of Swords: users actual DE sure hit is applied to enemy, but just once.
-Swords 2: summons a sword from the sky like a meteor. same stipulation as pent. 8.
-Swords 3: If the user somehow wastes CE in a failed attack or a portion of their technique that can't be undone (e.g. one of megumi's ten shadows being killed or kamo missing with one of his blood sacks), then it WILL be undone. think of it like putting a coin in slots, then if you lose, it'll give back the coin.
-Swords 4: touching an opponent in anyway knocks the wind out of them
-Swords 5: increase gravity of whatever user decides, remotely
-Swords 6: gives user a sharp CE trait for remainder of fight. interpret that as you will.
-Swords 7: forces enemy to immediately use a maximum output technique if possible. User chooses remotely.
-Swords 8: Can temporarily remove the enemy's memories of the last 15 seconds
-Swords 9: user can shoot from hand sealing bandage that hones in on and tries to restrict enemy
-Swords 10: at the users whim, the enemy of choice becomes super restless momentarily (like having stayed awake all night).
MINOR ARCANA: COURT CARDS
-Page of Cups: telekinetically control a summoned volume of water (2L) in the air.
-Knight of Cups: super pressurized water that cuts shit shoots out of users mouth.
-Queen of Cups: a wave/pulse of water bursts out of user from all sides in a ring and leaches CE out of any source it touches.
-King of Cups: releases huge explosion of water from user which they can control momentarily, but not in seperate parts.
-Page of wands: shoot explosion from hand at will (once).
-Knight of wands: users skin becomes red hot, and user becomes faster for remainder of fight.
-Queen of wands: summon and throw charcoal to raise a column of flames.
-King of wands: Being hurt cause fire to shoot out of user in direction of attack.
-Page of pentacles: Summon spike from ground, almost anywhere.
-Knight of pentacles: launch huge boulder from ground in front of user.
-Queen of pentacles: earthquake jumpstart + immunity (balance).
-King of pentacles: the user is able to one time shape the landscape, just the ground specifically.
-Page of swords: user can generate one sonic boom clap.
-Knight of swords: clapping shoots a mini tornado from hands.
-Queen of swords: gives user flight for remainder of fight.
-King of swords: summons a few small clouds only the user can walk on.
* EXTRA - some more that I ended replacing, because I thought of a better one for whatever card it was *
-upon touch, teleports enemy through dimensions really quickly (like how the ancient one made Dr. strange trip in the movie) then sends them through a portal back after a bit, and where they disapeared from originally. Basically, freak out enemy, enemy and give user a break.
-the user has increased CE output as long as they don't attack anything or let any of it go (aka, charge up an attack)
-the user has increased CE output as long as they continually use an above average amount of CE in their attacks, it doesn't restart if they stop.
-make air in a large area unbreathable momentarily
-FOR REGULAR THROWN CT: (wheel of fortune specifically) hitting an object introduces into users battle, almost like acting upon their willing, and follows a new decided fate to assist the user.

I'd love to hear suggestions and improvements, but know this, I did look into the meaning of the cards to get inspiration for their abilities (some had more effort than others, admittedly) so I would apreciate if that is considered when forming suggestions. Should there be further regulations on spamming the cards? I also get it that some of the card abilities are repetative, after a couple dozen I found it difficult to not back track. Some of this might be confusing, so I am happy to answer questions. Thank you for reading!
P.S. I realize looking back that I imagined the thrown cards specifically disappearing shortly after hitting the target or missing, but I could have made it so the cards stayed until reshuffle, and that some cards had lingering effects. I also wanted to mention that a couple tarot cards are inherently bad, but I thought they were too few to include as a debuff (even having one when your opponent had all buffs be a wild disadvantage).

2024.04.21 00:52 Odd_Question_9069 Response to the Blazblue debunks (part 1)

Hello, I've joined this reddit not too long ago, and I've been seeing some interesting points in regards to Blazblue, more specifically where exactly the series itself is able to scale to. After doing a bit of digging I found that there's several google docs that go in depth with the debunks that is going around here. More specifically, this, this, this, this and this one. I will go through as much of these docs as I possibly can with scans to back up my source, though I will summarize the arguments for each specific point they tackle for the series, so I highly recommend you read these google docs as you read through this post as I'm mostly going to link scans for my end of the argument. The main reason why I'm doing this is that I believe a lot of misinformation is being spread regarding what this series is capable of doing, or how exactly it functions in a versus standpoint, and from what little I've been told, these google docs are the source of said misinfo, without further ado, let's begin.
The Izanami Calc
So the first part that this blog covers is the feat izanami and requiem is capable of doing, albeit with the former struggling with the feat, and refers to the Vs battle wiki calculation where someone manages to get a far higher yield than what Izanami herself states is capable of. Going off the back and forth in regards to the members in this calc, this very easily seems like a case of "the writer just doesn't know how to do math", especially when inverse square law is the main focus of the calc which would yield a far higher result than normal. The comment about Kokonoe "coming out of nowhere and no one acknowledges it" is such a random point to use against her statements to begin with when she's one of the most intelligent characters in the franchise, with only beings like Terumi, Relius and Rachel being able to rival her smarts, so why exactly would they need to question her comment like she's lying when she's trying to warn the group about Requiem's and Izanami's overall destructive capabilities?
Ragna's Death feat
This separate doc goes to explain the nature of Ragna's existence as the Central Fiction, and how exactly it ties to the fight itself. It first talks about the scans being used on the vs battle wiki where Ragna explains to Noel how the world would be fine without her, though without a certain someone, it would end, and that person being Ragna due to him being the dream of god. It goes on a tangent on how an average viewer wouldn't get this, but this feels like extreme nit picking when both scans in conjunction with each other explains who is explaining this, as well as what it means for Ragna to be the dream of god in the first place, though he goes on to explain it in the following paragraph which makes this entire tangent feel unecessary.
The blog talks about the scenario in Calamity Trigger with the timeloops in the series and how Ragna's death is the catalyst for all the timeline resets, and finally ends with explaining that Ragna himself can't do these things on his own and needs Amaterasu and Takamagahara to reset the worlds, which first off, Takamagahara never once contributed in resetting timelines to keep Ragna alive, in Calamity trigger every time Ragna falls into the Cauldron with Nu, Takamagahara always nukes the hierarchical city with Take-Mikazuchi in order to kill Ragna, something we see for ourselves in the true ending when Ragna's saved by Noel and doesn't become a Black Beast. The only person that does this is Amaterasu herself since Ragna is her special creation. Plus even with the argument that Ragna himself can't actively do these resets willy nilly, this doesn't really matter when it comes to a website like vs battle wiki which has abilities like Type 8 Immortality, where you can be immortal through a reliance on another person, object, etc. Meaning some form of outside help that doesn't have anything to do with prep time is viable when it comes to characters like Ragna with his status as the Central Fiction unless you wanna implement limitations on what he's capable of doing.
Next on his point is the fact that Ragna's death feat isn't a destructive feat in anyway because all it does is reset the timeline, which is false when you factor in an important plot point that occurs in Xblaze, the prequel visual novel duology that takes place way before the events of the dark war. In one of the endings here, the main character Touya loses control over his powers of the Black Beast and ends up consuming everything and becoming a monster. Es kept her promise to Touya and puts him out of his misery, and when that happens, one of his childhood friends who loves him so much saw what happened and rewrote all of reality just to bring him back to life, in the sequel, we see from the main villain Sech's perspective that when he kills Touya in any of the abrupt endings, the world is being erased from existence to be reconstructed from scratch, and we even see characters like Acht and Drei talk about how they won't remember or just fade away due to being incapable of fighting off the Phenomena Intervention from the Embryo, and Sechs is capable of withstanding it thanks to his weapon Kusanagi giving him an innate resistance towards Phenomena Intervention. Knowing how Xblaze does this very similar concept across the VNs, and the fact that Ragna's literal existence is him being god's dream, yes I'd argue that Amaterasu's reset is capable of doing the exact same feat that the Embryos are able to do, especially when central fiction has Amaterasu being able to warp an infinite number of Embryos into one with its mere existence showing up in reality.
Lastly they explain how the outcome itself wouldn't really change if the timeline resets due to Ragna not remembering the events, which unless the opponent he's fighting is capable of fighting off the effects of Phenomena Intervention like how Sechs and several other characters in the series is capable of, it wouldn't be a win for either as it would just end in a stalemate since Ragna dies, but his opponent just fades away until they come back, either way it's not 100% useless as it's essentially a far more overkill version of Byleth's time rewind ability in Fire Emblem 3 Houses where they can technically die but time just rewinds back to before they die, though this time it just resets all of existence and not just rewind time.
Immeasurable Speed
So this entire blog talks about the scene with Valkenhayn and Relius where Relius explains about the Boundary experience with the black beast, and Valkenhayn states that he transcends time and space as a result of that. The blog refutes this idea by the fact that Hakumen was incapable of moving in the Boundary, and that when folks like Ragna and Makoto go through the Boundary, it left them incapacitated. Add in the fact that Valkenhayn's statement is not supported by Relius after said claim it refutes the feat altogether.
In regards to Valkenhayn, the only reason why we shouldn't take his statement seriously is if it's contradicted in the story or someone else who's knowledgeable on the subject matter refutes his claim and corrects him, but neither scenarios happen here, especially considering this is Relius Clover we're talking about, who's intelligence rivals Terumi and Kokonoe easily in the series, there's little to no reason why we shouldn't take what Valkenhayn said seriously. Throw in the fact that there's a narrator statement in Bloodedge Experience about the Boundary transcending time and space, yeah I don't see why Valk's comment should be disregarded here unless the standards have changed to where being able to move in a realm beyond space and time just doesn't qualify for immeasurable speeds anymore.
In terms of what happened to Hakumen, he was in the Edge, a completely different dimension. Second off, Hakumen was wounded by Jubei during their controntation with Terumi in order to seal him away. Add onto the fact the Edge was trying to mess with Hakumen's existence for a century and coming back only at 20% power, not really surprising he didn't have the energy to move.
In regards to Makoto, she didn't jump into the Boundary and was knocked out, she was investigating the computers near the cauldron when the Prime field devices that were left there instinctively sent her to a specific timeline when her existence got yoinked out of her body by the Cauldron, and the fact she was unconscious for like 2 minutes in her reality basically shows she never jumped in the first place. So this has less to do with character being incapable of going through the Boundary and being unconscious and more to the fact that being near any Cauldron is enough to pull your existence into the Boundary. Ragna's whole thing of being unconscious ends up being a moot point when he is capable of moving in the Boundary and reach the gates of the azure at the end of CF, which is where the deepest reaches of the Boundary is.
Next on their point is the fact that they're only able to move through time in a realm beyond time and space and is never shown to do so anywhere else in the series, which last time I checked doesn't really mean much when franchises like Bayonetta have immeasurable speed for scaling to Aesir, who just has a statement of being beyond time and space and that's it, no elaboration on if he's able to move faster through time or anything like that for this feat.. Though this point gets repeated again in the Infinite speed section which I'll get to it when we get there.
Lastly the blog talks about how characters need an external device in order to move through the boundary. Factoring in the narrator statement of the Boundary transcending time and space, which backs up what Valkenhayn has said about Relius, here's the following characters we have actual showings of being capable of moving in this realm beyond time and space with no issues or outside help whatsoever.
Ragna - Literally shown moving through the Boundary in CF.
Jin - Shown moving in the Boundary in Terumi's arcade mode.
Noel - Prime Field Devices are stated to move across the deepest reaches of the Boundary.
Lambda-11 - Same as Noel
Nu-13 - Same as Noel
Izanami - Same as Noel
Relius Clover - Went through the Boundary in Continuum Shift and does the same in Central Fiction.
Hazama - literally dips into the Boundary after he observes the Power of Order.
Nine the Phantom - Literally made her workshop in the Boundary.
Hakumen - He goes through the Boundary and chases after Ragna and Nu while wounded across time.
Valkenhayn - Was able to bury Clavis in the Boundary on top of us seeing him take Rachel away while everyone's in the Boundary.
Terumi - Same as Jin, plus he literally was born in the Boundary so claiming he cannot move in his own home realm without any evidence to suggest that's the case makes no sense.
Trinity - Was able to move around in the Boundary as a spirit.
Jubei - Is stated to do this easily in his prime.
Azrael - Is stated to cross the Boundary after breaking out of his dimensional prison.
Rachel Alucard - Is able to move in the Boundary just fine.
Naoto Kurogane - Traversed the entire Boundary to get to the Embryo.
Es - Traversed across the entire Boundary to reach the Master Unit.
Amane Nishiki - Was able to travel to the Gates of the Azure easily.
The Black Beast - Literally every single timeloop in CT has the black beast travel across the entire Boundary to start the dark war all over again.
Given how a majority of the top tiers are capable of doing these feats, on top of the elaborations of what happened with Makoto and Hakumen, on top of the fact that there's likely way more characters I'm missing when it comes to going across the Boundary knowing how expansive the series is, this is way too consistent for the series to consider Immeasurable Speed to be far fetched for the series.
Infinite Speed
This section here talks about the main arguments for infinite speed for the series, that being the characters being able to move across the Boundary, which is stated to be infinite in size, and that Noel's Bolverk can pierce through space.
The former's refute starts by claiming none of the characters are able to traverse a huge part of the Boundary, let alone the entire realm, which is untrue when not only is Amaterasu stated to be in the deepest parts of the Boundary, but the Murakumo lore is flat out stated that they're capable of reaching the deepest reaches of the Boundary given they're made to make contact with the master unit in the first place. Meaning that all the murakumo units and Es would flat out scale to this feat, and other characters like Jubei, Azrael, the Black beast and more who've stated to cross the Boundary itself to reach to whatever reality they want, something that the cast generally treats like an insane feat in the first place, so they indeed crossed either the entire Boundary, or a huge chunk of it, which would be a viable feat in the end.
Next point is a really bizarre thing to say the least. They claim that the infinite speed feats won't qualify for the versus battle wiki criteria; which is that they don't move faster than time flows, perceiving finite speed characters as frozen, performing infinite actions in a short time, or that time flows when they will it. None of these are remotely in anyway shape or form a requirement for infinite speed to scale to, as the section that he links from that site is specifically talking about how fast infinite speed characters are compared to those with finite speed, and how fast immeasurable speed characters are with infinite speed characters. Not that they're a requirement, Enrico Pucci has infinite speed for being stated to have infinite speed in his ranking on top of his "accelerate time to infinity", and neither of them remotely elaborates on any of these supposed requirements like seeing folks as frozen or doing infinite actions or anything. Same with D from Vampire Hunter D?so=search) as he just crossed an infinite distance to attack someone or just moved in 0 time, he doesn't have any statements of time flowing when he deems so or doing infinite actions in a finite time, but he still qualifies, so this entire section misses the point of that explanation on the vs wiki page for speed.
Next section talks about terumi being able to move in the boundary and claims that folks argued that being able to just move in the Boundary is enough for infinite speed while linking a versus wiki thread as an example, and that terumi's only able to do this in the Boundary and nowhere else, and that he gets caught off guard by Jubei and Tager who's never done this feat before. The first point took the context out with the wiki thread as the user in question was not using this as an argument for infinite speed, but immeasurable speed, and was refuting the point someone made about it being an actual ability that characters have to cross the Boundary when at no point is it ever shown or implied they need to use an ability to move in the realm to begin with. The second point of "they're only able to do this in the Boundary and nowhere else" makes zero sense when you take into account that the Boundary is the one place consistently stated to be infinite in size, something the doc itself acknowledges and doesn't even try to refute. This argument is the equivalent of saying a top tier character running across the planet in a few seconds isn't a legit feat because the story takes place in a school and he's only able to do this outside of school and nowhere inside, which is silly beyond reason. In regards to Jubei, he literally does cross the Boundary, Kokonoe herself states it, plus he's stated to be the strongest creature on the planet and is a six heroes, so him keeping up with terumi doesn't disprove terumi's feat in the first place. As for Tager, they ignored the part where Tager literally has Celica with him, who's literally Terumi's kryptonite, so again, not an anti feat, plus with the prior feats listed above this doesn't disprove anything unless you wanna pull the same logic with other franchises and say Goku shouldn't scale to Universal cause he got shot by a laser from a fodder tier frieza soldier, or flash's infinite mass punch being as strong as a white dwarf star, and ignore the consistencies of both series that put these two characters at a higher level than normal.
Lastly with Noel's Bolverk, the blog claims that it's just spatial hax and nothing else, even on the level vs wiki claims, which the application of spatial hax being done here is not the same as normal spatial hax. Being able to ignore distance entirely to attack someone instantly is literally breaking the speed formula as it's comprised of Distance/Time, and you literally shot distance itself just to hit someone. Several other characters on the site?so=search) has infinite attack speed for this reason. So by versus wiki criteria, this is still legit unless you wanna make a standard change and claim that it shouldn't scale to the attack speed, which be my guest I suppose.
Izayoi's light speed
This section talks about the Izayoi's properties of absorbing light, with kokonoe describing it as like a black hole that absorbs wavelengths and not even light itself can escape, and proceeds to claim that literally no one is capable of reacting to this light at all.
The blog claims that the Izayoi passively absorbs light, which isn't true because her bad ending in Continuum shift is literally her actively using the Izayoi's light absorption ability way too much and it essentially resulted in her death, where her canonical ending she's mostly just suffered from blindness in the end. If it was passively doing this then she should've been dead in both endings regardless if she used the izayoi or not.
The next point is the fact that the Izayoi at best only lets tsubaki shoot a slow moving projectile and that the weapon only boosts one power and strength and nothing to do with their actual speed, ignoring how the same clip they used has a prior statement of enhancing the user's abilities with the light and not just their power, add the fact that the slow projectile is something Tsubaki can literally combine with to increase in speed and power to attack someone, this extends far beyond mere strength.
Last point is how the light is used to make anti observer fields and it's used in a way that no one is able to react to, which is false when Tsubaki's Izayoi form literally fires the light against Jin in Chronophantasma and he dodges it easily. And this is treated as the izayoi's true form while the normal one Tsubaki has is a weakened version, factor in how Izayoi in gameplay has very similar drive mechanics to tsubaki with her absorbing light and having a stance mode where she uses the light she takes in to zoom around fast, fly, shoot projectiles, etc. something the cast can react to, this would 100% scale.
Side note just to add consistency here, Bang literally states he has a hidden technique that allows him to move at the speed of light, so this would be consistent with how fast the low tiers in Blazblue can be.
Higher Dimensional hax
This one is a rather short one, which is weird given how blazblue as a series is known for having cracked levels of hax for a majority of the cast. They bring up the versus wiki arguments about the Boundary being outside of reality while also ignoring the Boundary transcending time and space statement which feels weird when it's elaborated to contain all possibilities, which are alternate worlds in the series. And lastly it claims Ragna just recreated a single timeline, which is consistent with takamagahara and amaterasu's feats of resetting the timeline, and say the nox nyctores hax would also just be Uni+ because of it transcending phenomena intervention.
I don't understand how in the hell this is a refute to Blazblue having higher dimensional scaling when they didn't address the Boundary stuff in the first place and just makes a non-sequiter point about a timeline being made. If we actually check out the thread on the versus wiki with scans in mind, it bring up the following feats of the series affecting the Boundary (something the doc doesn't remotely refute in anyway shape or form whatsoever):
Takamagahara observing all information of the Boundary.
Kushinada's lynchpin stopping the flow of seithr when sent to the Boundary.
Celica's literal existence suppressing the forces of the Boundary.
The Embryo being able to contain the Boundary with its existence.
4 feats from that alone, but this can extend even more when we factor in other feats such as the following.
Rachel being stated to Observe the entire Boundary.
The Boundary's power stems from the True Azure itself.
The NOL is capable of channeling the power of the Boundary itself easily.
Factor in how Amaterasu is deemed the true god above Takamagahara, and how it warped an infinite embryos into one when it appears in reality, and how the person with the true azure exceeds amaterasu, on top of Doomsday being something the Embryo does and is the major plot point of central fiction, this higher dimensional hax stuff would still apply, so idk why this is in anyway shape or form a debunk.
High-Godly regeneration
Here's another big one to tackle so lets get to it. The blog talks about Hakumen's time killer feat being superior to the Boundary's erasure abilities and how Ragna can negate regen (though this part isn't really relevant given they cover it in the negation section below). It claims that there's no evidence of actual existence erasure since all Hakumen said was that he kills Terumi's time and how it can work by cutting one's target off from being observed due to Terumi needing self observation. This is ignoring two major factors that support this being actual existence erasure: the first being prior to their fight, Hakumen verbatim states that he's gonna use the Susanoo Unit's power to erase terumi's existence completely. Second when Hakumen lands time killer on Terumi, we literally see Terumi vanish from existence after it hits. What's important here is that normally when characters gets beaten up in the story mode, they always show their portraits falling down with a collapsing sound effect, but with the time killer scene, not only does his portait just vanishes but we literally hear nothing with his body falling down, plus we literally don't see terumi whatsoever when Jin shows up to help Hakumen destroy the gigantic cauldron pillar. So yes, Hakumen verbatim stating he'd erase his existence and doing just that with the visuals being very unique compared to literally any other time someone gets destroyed in the fight would say otherwise, also even if we're to assume Hakumen just shut out the observation (which is never once stated or implied whatsoever by time killer), that's still erasing terumi from existence as beings that aren't observed would literally cease to exist. Either way he still came back from being erased from existence no matter what you interpret the scene as.
The next point is that the Boundary being able to erase someone is unfounded and claims the statements from Jubei is too vague and can just mean being memory wiped. Ignoring how Jubei quite literally said that it's worse than death, but how does "losing everything you ever will be" somehow pertain to losing your memories when memories by default are records of past information someone experienced at some point in their life? Because "everything you ever will be" implies your future, and "everything you ever were" implies your past and you're losing all of that, hence being erased across history, but let's see what the Japanese text for this scene has to say about this statement.
  1. 同じことだ。いやもっと悪い。 境界に落とされるなど、存在そのものを抹消されるような ものではないか。
  2. Its the same. No its even worse. Getting dropped into the boundary, is something like having your existence itself being erased.
Wow, so the original japanese script just makes it very blatant that the Boundary is capable of erasing your entire existence, so the argument that this is just memory erasure/memory wiping is unfounded and fundamentally makes no sense when you look at the context on what's being said.
Next point comments about how Jubei doesn't prove being able to erase someone across time for the Boundary (which I've already explained why that's the case since memories being lost makes 0 fucking sense). But they bring up the Edge's statement and Hazama falling back into the Boundary in Central fiction and claim how both aren't legit because Hazama survives as stated by Naoto and the Edge scan has nothing to do with the Boundary. The first point doesn't disprove what Rachel said since she's still talking about what the Boundary itself can do, Naoto saying he's still alive just means the Boundary doesn't do shit to him, and given Hazama's existence is literally an azure grimoire, which is a portable gateway to the boundary, it makes sense he wouldn't be affected by this in the first place. The latter with the Edge also doesn't mean shit here when in order to get to the Boundary, you have to cross the Edge since it's stated to be between the Boundary and the normal world, so you'd have to take a realm trying to erase you from existence in order to get to the Boundary, either way this comes off as massive cherry picking.
Overall I don't think the blog gets why Time killer is upscaled from the Boundary in the first place, especially when the most basic explanation is this: Terumi can survive in the Boundary just fine and is unfazed by the realm's hazardous effects; which includes being erased from existence, and Hakumen was able to erase terumi despite his innate resistance to erasure across history itself. His erasure abilites would have to be stronger than the Boundary's abilities if it can erase terumi in the first place, who again isn't fazed by the Boundary at all. So this debunk falls apart the moment you look into the scenes for both the boundary statements and time killer itself.
Soul Hax/regeneration negation resistance.
Here the blog talks about the azure's soul hax and claims that the soul hax statement from the Azure grimoire doesn't remotely scale to what magic can do because it's just talking about the Nox Nyctores and Magic, and that the azure just remembers those wounds. This is ignoring the point how the azure grimoire is treated as the most powerful of grimoires and Ars Magus weaponry in the entire world, factor in how in the lore of Blazblue, Armagus was advanced to the point that it eventually lead to the creation of the Nox Nyctores, meaning all Nox Nyctores are classified as Armagus weapons, the Azure having very similar levels, if not greater levels of soul hax abilities than the Nox Nyctores itself isn't a ridiculous idea given how they're treated.
The next section talks about the scans used on his versus wiki profile doesn't really prove much for resistance since it just shows rachel describing the wounds, and that ragna's susceptible to these kinds of attacks. This isn't really true, especially with the Nox Nyctores wounds when Ragna's 100% fine at the end of Calamity trigger despite being wounded by Nu and her Nox Nyctores. That and Nox Nyctores wounds are treated as a serious threat in general and not just because of it being Ragna.
The next two paragraphs talk about how Ragna gets wounded by Izanami and claims how Ragna's not gonna heal the wounds easily, implying that he can still heal it, which contradicts being capable of negating forms of regeneration, but this ignores what regeneration negation is. The mere fact that someone with a healing factor is being inflicted with wounds that they either cannot heal from or have a really hard time healing from in general is what regeneration negation is, since you're messing with the target's ability to heal in the first place, either way this still counts as a form of regeneration negation.
The next two paragraphs talk about Jubei and Ragna's wounds and how they're somewhat capable of healing, but also claims that only those with the Azure is susceptible to these wounds which makes no sense at all when at no point in the games is it ever stated Jubei has an Azure grimoire with him. The fact that he's wounded by magic attacks and that it's taking a while for him to heal such a wound in the first place means that this ability isn't limited to just the Azure, it extends to any individual. Factor in the statements with Litchi where she states that Nox Nyctores wounds are a special type of wound that no normal weapon is capable of inflicting, yeah this idea that it's only for azure folks is stupid. Especially when you factor in two other points that shoot this argument in the foot. Arakune being sliced apart by Hakumen in Calamity trigger and the narrator stated that he's incapable of regenerating, and yet Arakune doesn't have an azure grimoire with him, hell his entire purpose in existence is to consume the azure, hence why he's obsessed with any character in the series that has an azure grimoire. The second one is Hazama being slashed around by Hakumen and he's completely fine despite his entire body being an Azure grimoire and yet he's never left any wounds that he can't heal from. So again this idea that it's only an azure grimoire weakness is unfounded and disproven several times by the blog's own scans with Jubei and Arakune, on top of Hazama throughout the entire series is hardly affected by any Nox Nyctores wounds and can heal them off just fine.
The next paragraph talks about how Ookami is the only nox nyctores that can negate healing factors for ragna only, which is not true when this exists for Arakune. Then claims that this doesn't extend to all Nox Nyctores which I'm confused here, because earlier in this same section the blog talks about how the nox nyctores wounds are able to fuck over Ragna and make it hard for him to heal, but at the same time they're incapable of doing just that, on top of bringing up the fact that Litchi and Kokonoe stated that he's able to heal just fine, so which one is it? Can he or can he not heal from these wounds easily? Because this section is just contradicting each other at this point. The scan with Bang healing from Hakumen's wound with basic medical attention when the clip in question literally said "there was a huge explosion big enough to blow up part of a mountain, and it tossed you pretty far. To be honest, we gave you pretty much every medicine we could find around here". So no this isn't basic medical attention like the blog itself likes to claim. On top of the fact that the explosion from the mountain is what severely wounded Bang, not Hakumen since they never once commented about any slash wounds he has from a Nox Nyctores.
The last section is just a case of the blog not reading the description on the versus wiki page in regards to how Nox Nyctores and Prime Field Devices are smelted. Here's the actual text on the pages in case you're curious.
Prime field Devices are made through self observation as stated by Kokonoe and Litchi, the former compares its observation to the Nox Nyctores' process at a conceptual level.
The page itself never once said that it's capable of regenerating down to a conceptual level, it just said that the process of Nox Nyctores smelting and Prime Field device smelting are similar at a conceptual level, the scans itself even says that so why exactly is this post arguing that it's conceptual regen when that's not even what it says? Just comes off as strawmanning the pages for the sake of making another point to tackle against.
Continues in part 2...
