I currently have an XPS 15 9500 (i7-10750H 32GB RAM 1TB SDD and a 1650Ti), connected to two 27" 1440p monitors when I'm at the office.
I got it before I became a one-man IT contractor and so it's a little bit impractical on account of only having 3x USB-C slots, one of which has to be used for charging... having no ethernet or standard USB ports is a pain.
It also thermal throttles a LOT, so it's actually not that fast most of the time, but I also really love the form factor.
Most of the time I've got a tonne of Chrome tabs open, Outlook, Office, my RMM software, Evernote/OneNote, often some kind of streaming on the laptop screen... I also use Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere moderately and in the evenings I do a little gaming too... nothing super high-res. I also run some VMs too.
I really, REALLY like the big trackpad. It's the best I've ever used.
Basically I'm just looking for something that is closer to a mobile workstation, without being a mobile workstation. Something solid, decent size screen (15/16"), powerful, decent graphics card, but not a big clunky gaming machine. Needs to look pro and be road-safe (i.e. to and from my office several times per day). Oh and something that has a numpad, I miss those.

I've never had a pleasant experience with any Microsoft product in my life.

1. Their 2FA application is unnecessarily complicated to set up and never sends my Authenticator app the number on the first try. I have to select the option to get my authentication number a different way, then re-select the option to send a number to my phone, and only then do I get both numbers in my app (at which point the first set of numbers is already expired, anyways).
   
2. My Outlook reminders show up on the wrong monitor, show up for meetings I haven't RSVP'd, show up for coworkers' OOO notifications, or don't show up the one time I'm occupied by IntelliJ and forget an important meeting.
   
3. The Edge application on my phone often refuses to open. Just gets stuck on "Checking your data organization's requirements..."
   
4. Teams. TEAMS. Fucking Teams. COCKSUCKING FUCKING WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT FUCKING TEAMS. What the fuck is wrong with the code snippet inclusion in Teams? Why can't I introduce more than one line of code with backticks? Why can't code snippets introduced with backticks include syntax highlighting? When I do attach a code snippet with syntax highlighting, why the fuck does it need to include a big ass bold title? What if I don't want to title my code snippet? Why is the search utter dogshit and completely useless?
   
5. What the fuck is the point of the Teams update that forces you to get an entirely new app if the new app is still dogshit?
   
6. I had just joined a Teams meeting on my computer, and the app crashed my entire OS literally seconds before my name was called. Even after a force restart, it would still refuse to join the meeting on my laptop. I had to join via phone. THANKS MICROSOFT!!!
   

Man, even just trying to buy Minecraft for my little cousin, I had to spend 30 minutes to go and figure out why the fuck Microsoft 365 wouldn't let him log in to the game I had bought.
I just now realized that my company uses Gitlab instead of GitHub. Minus some annoyances with the MR changelog sometimes bugging out in the UI, I've never had an issue with Gitlab. I can only wonder what Microsoft has done to GitHub.
I'm really supposed to believe these "people" are going to steward the next golden age of AI into redefining all of software? If there's one thing that's saving us from an AI apocalypse, it's the guarantee that once OpenAI's work leaves their SF research lab, gets commercialized, and enters long-term support, the geniuses over at Redmond are going to drive it into the fucking ground. The Terminators will be at the gates of Washington with guns drawn and then, I promise you, their leader is going to blurt out "[ERR01XQ5R]: Something went wrong." and then they're all going to short circuit and shut down.
When I leave my company, I'm for sure applying to Microsoft. Based on my experience, I am confident I will be paid handsomely to sit around, do nothing, and have zero accountability to actually deliver functional software.

I'm helping my brother shop for a new 2-in-1 laptop and a lot of them are Intel Iris Xe, AMD Vega 7, Nvidia 3050 (laptop), and of course Intel "Integrated" Arc Graphics.
Where does integrated Arc stack up against other GPUs? I've tried using userbenchmark for comparisons but there's 4 Arc cards on there. How do you know what you're getting when it just says integrated Arc graphics? I'm kinda at a loss and not sure what to tell him.
My gut wants to go with Nvida 3050 or 4050s because it's a known quantity to me. But Arc is new and in some of the laptops with better features, so I'd want to be sure.

Hello there! I think I'm at a crossroads in my IT career and I'm not sure what the best way forward would be from where I currently am.
Here's the rundown:
-I have four years of IT experience with a public school as a computer technician/assistant IT director. One year of prior schooling, but no prior experience.
-I've obtained my A+ and Network+ certifications of my own volition during these four years.
-I plan on earning my Security+ certification next month.
-I've shadowed my tech director and have learned some valuable skills such as:
-How VLANs work -How AD works - How Google Admin works -How DHCP works -How to allow access through our SSID for our staff through RADIUS login -How to configure, site map, and hang up network APs for multiple buildings -How to onboard and offboard staff members with various levels of authorization -How to manage SSO software -How to remove malware -How to fix hardware on chromebooks and Dell laptops
My goal is to eventually move on and work exclusively with networking to eventually become a network architect, but a lot of the networking knowledge I've learned at my job is still mostly theoretical. I plan on earning some more certifications and knowledge to help me advance, such as: -Server+ -Azure Fundamentals -Cloud+ -AWS (CCP and Certified Advanced Networking) -Powershell -Python -CCNA -CCNP
So here are my questions: Do I have enough knowledge to move on from my current job to one that is more closely related to networking, and, if so, what job would that be? Where would be a good place to go from here to further my career towards network architect?
If I DON'T currently have enough knowledge and skills to advance, should I consider going back to school, or would continuing to gain experience and certifications (like what I've currently been doing) be enough eventually?

I've got nearly 500gb worth of photos and other files to backup to my PC as my phone is nearly full. I don't use the cloud as I'm too poor, stupid, and paranoid for that.
Every time I drag the files over to my SSD, even if only one file like downloads or dcim at a time, the pc hangs and takes way too long until my 6800u W11 laptop crashes. I bought a 10gbps cable, but I still have these problems.
Is there any good software to make this process easier? What's the best or fastest way to backup 500gb worth of files before I can safely delete them to make space? Thanks.

Hello. I have had this laptop for what is 4 years now. I bough it for 600 euros and was branded as a failry good laptop. It definelly wasnt good but it was able to play most games at 60 fps medium graphics no problem. I runned a test on userbenchmarks and got 40% gaming a 99% desktop and a 68% workstation. But this isnt what i am talking about. 1 year ago things got bad. My laptops cpu and gpu started overheating massively reaching 110 degrees Celcious from the normal 70 degrees. My laptops fan also started to turn off and on all slow down massivelly. My Cpu, a AMD Ryzen 7 3700u, clock speed started crashing every 5 seconds from a 2.8GHZ to a 0.4 GHz. My Gpu, an AMD Radeon Vega 10, is an integrated graphics card and its clock speed fell to 200 MHz from my normal 700 MHz. My Ram, 8gb 2400 MHz DDR4 only has 6gb available and 3 of them are used in i dont know where, so only 3 gb. My Gpu Memory clock speed is going crazy some times and some times not.
In general my fps went from 60, medium graphics, in World of Warships to 30 in lowest graphics. My fps went from 60 maximum graphics in Roblox, to 20 in lowest. My fps went from 60 medium in trackmania to 30 in low. From 260 in TMNF to 70. My fps went from 60 in hearts of iron to 15 while the game speed slowed by 3 times at its minimum. After that happened i started to search for any solution, trying to figure out whats wrong but even 2 months of searching every single word related to laptops and issues i found nothing anywhere near represending my case. It was about 1 month after that that my laptop fan started making weird cranky noises from time to time and generally every time i opened my laptop. after that my laptop started to shut off many times because of my cpu getting way to overheated. One day my cpu reached 115 degree mark where it normally shut off but it was going 0.1 GHz that the emergency turn off didnt even work until it reached 148 degrees. I was using AMD Radeon Software by the way. I spend another hundet of hours searching for anything that could help me but there was nothing. I did everything suggested to me by alot of people. 5 months ago is the time now and my laptop has gotten even worse. Every time i press restart my laptop simply closes and doesnt open. The turn off button doesnt work most times because my laptop crashed on the turn off screen. I get the blue screen and i cant get out. I am forced to do repairs which dont work. In the words of the repair screen "Repair has failed, try again" (It didnt say that but thats the short version). So i had to do a factory reset again. Thankfully the restart and turn off button work fine. 4 months go by with my laptop overheating problem having cooled down. Some games dont load, Power point crashes every time which is very importand for my homework. Word doesnt work either so i cant do my homework. At that point i got frustrated beyond believe because now it isnt only my gaming life getting effected but my school grades. I scout for any answers.. Nothing again. 2 weeks ago i did a Userbenchmark and my scores were: 4% Gaming, 43% desktop, 27% workspace. 1 week ago my laptop started getting very big and sometimes long stutters when my laptop completly froze. I have QuickCpu for monetaring my cpu and the result of that stutter was a straight line with the same stats and time not moving. My laptop has crashed many times, ALT f4 hasnt worken many times because of how slow my laptop is moving but despite it QuickCpu has always kept working. For it to display a straight line were time apparently doesnt move.. something aint right. And now we reach today. Most games load now. Powerpoint, word and the rest dont work still. I did the Userbenchmark again and got the same results. Stutters are getting longer every time i get one. I got another blue screen. Everything is starting to lag and i am noticing a time delay between me pressing buttons in the keyboard and actually typing it. The same with my mouse. The weird cranky noise from my fan still goes on till this day. Fps has gotten worse. From my 60 fps in medium in War thunder i now get 20 in the old videocard setting with lowest. every other game has lost fps too but on this scale. I was getting 60 fps in medium settings when i had the issue not before. And before anyone points out drivers, all of them are the latest. And no getting a new laptop isnt an option, Neither is getting a pc. The only thing working fine at this moment of time is windows updates.
Hope anyones has any information, any tips, anything that can help me i am glad to hear it. Like just throw out random ideas for me to try.

Hello,
I am going to be downloading the Examplify software onto my windows laptop. My laptop does not have a functioning inbuilt mic or camera. While going through the minimum system requirements, I noticed that there was a requirement of mic and camera for "exams with ExamID or ExamMonitor enabled". Does that apply to me who is going to be taking the bar exam in person in NY? Unable to understand.

Picking up this 2014 MBP 15" i7 2.5GHz w/Nvidia GPU (I think lol) from a good friend. From everything I can tell it is in great shape as it passed all the diagnostics and physically in good condition as well. Is there anything else I need to check?
Overall what I would greatly appreciate are tips, tricks, and suggestions on getting this setup to be the most up-to-date, stable, and fastest it can as of May 2024.
This will be a secondary laptop used for web dev and school while traveling and just something some to mess around. It has been a long-time since I was on MacOS as an owner and would love some up-to-date ideas and work arounds to get this thing maxed on performance wise for software/hardware.
I started installing some of the necessary web dev apps and installed Homebrew (first time) and it mentioned that MacOS Big Sur is not supported anymore and that it may work fine but probably not great.
Some of the following things are questions I can think of:

• What is currently the fastest and most stable Opencore Legacy patcher update for these 2014 MBP 15" models? Also any reason to stay on Big Sur?
• Would upgrading to the fastest NVMe drive be beneficial on this machine? Is there anyway to tell what it currently has for an SSD without opening it up?
• What apple and/or 3rd party software is considered "need-to-have" or highly beneficial these days?
• What settings will allow this machine to be snappy and quick still without sacrificing too much functionality?

The issue is that my employer doesn't communicate well because they're still starting as a consulting agency. I needed to argue and negotiate and change the agreement multiple times until we reached this version and I'm not sure if I'm being offered a fair deal. Hi guys I replaced the keyboard on my laptop, and when I reassembled the laptop appeared to be dead as a door knob. Fortunately through some searching on Reddit i performed the steps to get the thing into diagnostic mode. The power button now alternates between orange and green with nothing showing up on the screen yet. Does anyone have any insight? Could this be a battery issue?
Edit: I have the dumb, it was in sleep mode. For further clarity though I will put the steps I followed to bring it back from doing nothing at all.

1. With the power bricks unplugged from the laptop hold the power button for 30 seconds
2. Plug the power bricks back into the laptop
3. Press the power button again for 30 seconds
4. Release the power button
5. Press and hold D, and at the same time press the power button ONCE
6. Feel the overwhelming relief wash over you that your very expensive machine isn't borked.
7. Post on Reddit about sleep mode, feel like a dumb dumb.

Hello everyone.
I wanted to share with you just how hopeless Sony support is, especially the branches in Poland. I purchased the 75X95L along with the HT-A7000. It was one of my modest dreams which I managed to achieve by saving up a bit.
After buying the TV and connecting it with the soundbar, I noticed that a hissing noise randomly emanates from the speakers for an indeterminate moment. I browsed various forums and quickly realized that this issue is known globally. After trying to eliminate the squealing using power strips, high-quality cables, updating software, and many other tricks described on the forum, I decided to get it repaired. The TV was taken to an authorized Sony center where they acknowledged the fault and replaced the main board. Unfortunately, this didn't help. When I lodged the complaint again, I was informed that this time everything was in order - the service tested it with the HT-A3000 soundbar and advised me to buy high-quality cables. Completely two different worlds - one time blindly replacing the main board and another time asserting that everything was fine. After contacting the service, I heard that they have specific diagnostic procedures and cannot follow and try to diagnose the TV according to the scenario provided by the consumer.

Has the motherboard replacement not helped any of the readers like me? I don't know what to do next, further complaints seem pointless, but I'm trying as hard as I can for SONY to finally take the matter seriously...

I’m looking at picking up the above headset for my ps5 mainly, but my pc as well, i know with the ‘p’ version the scroll wheel adjusts mic monitoring, and on this version it adjusts chatmix.
My question is if i connect the headset to my laptop and the software for the headset, can i turn mic monitoring off, then plug it into my ps5 and it still be off? Or will mic monitoring only be off while its plugged into my pc? Theres so much mixed advice online!

My laptop is old and lags really bad when using editing software. I want to upgrade but I get really lost on what different things do, and whats important or a good deal.
What kind of things should I look for to ensure video editing will work seamlessly? Being able to run recent games on steam would be a bonus, not really sure if the specs for video editing would already cover running games too.
I have a big budget of £2000, I kind of want to spend a lot so it will last me for a very long time without having to replace it. Once I know what I am after, any recommendations on where I should buy one in the UK?
