Bloody urine

2024.05.13 17:07 RF_RICAN29 Bloody urine

I'm not sure how to add photos on this specific post. if it's not to much trouble to look, I have photos of what I've seen on my page.
Hi everyone, this is my beautiful boy Titan. He is 5 years old, neutered, ,80lbs, and has a completely clean medical history up until this point.
about 4 weeks ago I noticed on a walk that his urine had very dark brown/bloody look to it but I couldn't tell to much because it was dark. The next day his urine goes back to being golden untill later in the evening when it turned bright red like he basically just peeing straight blood. there was also a "gooey" substance that came out which I have photos of. I immediately took him to the vet to be examined. I showed them the photos and explained above and they prescribed him with cephalexin to fight a possible infection. The vet did feel around his bladder for signs of stones but everything checked out to be fine, as well as any other tests they did.
now to today. he has now urinated 3 times all some sort of dark brown blood to bright red blood, is this a way of the antibiotic clearing out the infection? he has been taking it everyday for 21 days. Do I need to call the vet back? Their next step was some sort of scan on his bladder.
TL;DR My dog has been urinating blood again after the vet visit, he is currently prescribed on cephalexin. do I need to see the vet again?

Lily's Overview
My dog Lily went into congestive heart failure a few weeks ago and required an Emergency Vet visit to save her. Luckily she made it and is doing fairly well with medications. I have consulted my vet numerous times and have spent whatever is needed to give my baby a good ending.
When she was at the Emergency Vet they had shaved her leg in a spot and a very small bump appeared. 14 days later it was the size of a small marble. I thought the bump was caused by the IV and would eventually go down but it didn't. It exploded and it looked like flesh was coming out. Image: https://img.1teo.com/image/Vgt
I took her to the emergency vet and they told me it was a cyst, but that it was out and all it had to do was heal. They think she licked it out. However every time it starts to heal up she scrapes it on something and it bleeds all over again NSFW Bloody Image: https://img.1teo.com/image/xDW
First off, can anyone confirm that this bean thing was the cyst or most of it? The vet never looked. https://img.1teo.com/image/30a
Secondly, if this thing on her leg continues to get scraped what could be done potentially? I keep being told its healing nicely and then it breaks open again. Broken Open: https://img.1teo.com/image/TAO
For a full album of Lily's cyst adventure I uploaded all the photos I had. https://img.1teo.com/album/Y3M
Here are her details:
Name: Lily Species: Dog Age: 14 Breed: JRT/Mix Weight: 21lb History: Heart murmur was detected years ago. She just started showing signs of congestive heart failure about 6 weeks ago. Medications: Pemobendan 0.5ml 2x day, Enapril 5mg 1x day, Furosemide 20mg 2x day for heart feailutre. An antibiotic Cephalexin 250 mg x2 was prescribed for the cyst issue. Vet Visits: She has been to the vet more times in the last year then she has her entire life. She's always been a playful and happy dog. While she may not feel 100% from what I can tell she still is a happy little dog that seems to still enjoy life.
I am hoping that anything that needs to be done can be done without knocking her out. I am afraid that she will not wake back up in her old age.
Thank you advance for any information you may be able to pass on. If you have nothing to add and like gross things check out the Album.

Dogs pads and paw are swollen and look infected
On Wednesday I noticed my dogs pads looked off after I viewed him licking his paws. On Friday I took him to the SPCA vet clinic where they couldn't find anything in the paw and said it would get better. Prescribed him antibiotics (Cephalexin 300mg) and a pain reliever (Carpofen 25mg) which we started the course yesterday . Today on Sunday I woke up to check it and his entire paw is swollen. He's still eating can't put much pressure on it and is hopping around. No animal hospitals near me are open today and I'm a nervous wreck. Any ideas of what it could be and should I expect antibiotics to work? He's only taken 3 doses so far. Any advice would be appreciated
1st 2 pics are today. 3rd pic is a few days ago

2024.05.02 18:07 NoNefariousness6792 Cephalexin for Dogs Question

Hello,
My 10 year old male Australian Shepherd broke his nail completely off about 24ish hours ago. I have a couple leftover 500mg Cephalexin from the last time he went to the vet (about 3 weeks ago). When I run out of those, am I able to give him my own 500mg Cephalexin that was prescribed to me? I cant afford another vet visit right now, and from what I have read on google, it seems to be the same drug. But I definitely want to be sure before I give it to him.
Thanks!

2024.04.26 15:59 Suspicious-Data1589 My dog has awful allergies all of a sudden

I adopted her about 2 years ago now. She is a 48lb Lab, about 4-5 years old (dont know exact age)
Early on I did have to get her a hypoallergenic collar, but I didnt notice anything else.
This spring her belly started to get red. Partner thought it was hotspots. It spread to her armpits. Then I noticed on her snout around her nose and her neck. I treated it with hot spot spray and it did help sorta. I ended up getting a cone becuase she was getting sick licking herself with the hotspot stuff on.
Finally I decided I needed to see my vet. They said it was allergies and not hot spots. They sent me home with Apoquel 16 mg Tablets and Cephalexin 500mg Capsules
They said to see how it goes and possibly she will need Apoquel regularly if it gets worse again. Well I ran out and it started to get worse again.
I remembered I did change her food to Coscto brand around the same time the allergies started. But she hasnt had any stomach/bowel issues. Still, I switched to Hills Science diet for two weeks. No improvement, infact things got continue to get worse.
So now Im looking to call my vet. But if they want her on Apoquel 16 mg Tablets, that is expensive. Like $100 a month. That is going to really hurt, we (my partner and I) dont have a lot of expandable income.
Is there anything else I can do? I concerned this is going to be costly to manage and that will really hurt us financially. I know dogs are expensive, but on top of other regularly dog stuff, another $100 a month hurts.
I dont know why after 2 years, this has happened. Spring brings tons of pollen, but that isnt new. She hasnt had this issue before.

2024.04.09 17:10 Infamous_Ad7502 Bacterial infection won’t go away

My corgi (male, neutered, age 7) became itchy and irritable in early January. We made a vet appointment, and he was seen by our vet in mid-January. She shaved him, which revealed a large patch of irritated skin (see photo one). She scraped and tested his skin, and she found a bacterial infection. However, she noted that she didn’t know what type of bacterial infection it was and that she’d only ever seen something that looked like this once before, and it cleared up with antibiotics. She proceeded to prescribe four weeks of antibiotics (cephalexin) and prednisone. He completed the medication and his infected area scabbed over, but we didn’t see a big improvement. A week later, he was itching again so we made another appointment to take him back in. Two weeks later, they looked for mites and fleas again, but didn’t find any. They took another skin scrape and removed his scabs. They confirmed that the bacterial infection was still there. They prescribed another 4 weeks of antibiotics and steroids. They also upped his nexguard dose so that he received it after 14 days and then after 10 days. She said that the underlying cause of the infection might be mites (even though she didn’t see any), since he had them as a puppy, and that the increasing the frequency of the nexguard medication for the next month should treat this. He is also recovering twice weekly baths with chlorhex-MC medicated antiseptic shampoo with 2% chlorhexidine glyconate and 2% miconazole nitrate. He also had his senior bloodwork done about a month before the onset of the itchiness and everything came back normal.
He started a third dose of antibiotics and steroids last week. This time his antibiotic is Clavamox (375mg).
The first photo is of when he was first shaved, the second photo is shortly after his second vet visit, and the third is after his third vet visit. I couldn’t find a clear photo of when it scabbed over after the first dose of antibiotics. I have not missed any doses of medication.
I know skin conditions are hard to diagnose online, but I’m at a loss. Our vet doesn’t know what it is, and I just want my little buddy to feel better. If anyone has any idea what it could be or tests we should do, I’d be very grateful! We also have ducks, pigeons, and a cat. Our vet said this wasn’t relevant, but just thought I’d mention it regardless.
Thank you all!

2024.04.08 03:50 black12231 Dog not eating. Recommendations?

Dog not eating. Recommendations?
This is a 8 year old female miniature poodle.
So my dog has been having some horrible skin issues which she has been the vet and currently getting treatment for, first she was sent home with a 2 week supply of Cephalexin (antibiotic), Gabapentin (pain medication). They also recommend I change her food to “onc care hills science diet” because she’s currently underweight from her skin infections. Everything was perfect there was a slight improvement in her behavior, she even took to the new food really well.
I took her for a follow-up appointment this time they did blood work and recommended fungal testing which I couldn’t afford atm but she will definitely be back for it, anyways after the bloodwork the prescribed Rimadyl (pain relief) and Doxycycline (antibiotic) and also dewormer. After start all the new medication she has stopped caring to eat the dog food she won’t even look at it. Which I think is because of the dewormer. Any safe homemade food recommendations I can give while on dewormer?

2024.04.04 01:44 Lunas-0220 Post FHO/spaying surgery GSD showing signs of agression. Should I be worried?

Our 9 months, female GSD got a bilateral FHO surgery a week ago. At the same time she also got spayed.
We took her home 2 day post op and were sent home with a list of exercise and stretches to do that is quite extensive. We’re talking 3-6 hours a day, which is A LOT for us but I’m also thinking for her.
3-4 days ago, at random times she has started to growl back at us at different moment when trying to manipulate her. I understand that it is normal post op that dogs can exhibit some agression because of the anastesia, but I would think that 1 week out that should not be a concern.
I’m honestly at lost as what to do. It makes it hard for us to do her physio treatment and I’m also worried that she’s forming bad habits. The only times before that’s she growled is when resource guarding things she’s stolen from us, which is something she started exhibiting about a month ago.
Another thing to note is that she is taking a combo of 3 meds at the moment : Cephalexin, Gabapentin and Meloxadin. Could that have something to do with it too?
So far the only way I’ve managed to work this out is by giving her more space and slacking on the “physio plan” by trying to respect her natural rhythm…but it’s quite unpredictable and I’m worried it might slow down or hinder her recovery.
Any advice is welcomed.

2024.03.01 05:57 Please_Help_My_Pup 4 vets stumped- toe nails falling out and swollen gums. 16 y/o female Pointer Mix

16 year old female pointer mix, spayed, UTD on shots. 79lbs at her last appointment today.
Title says it all: her toe nails are falling out and now her gums are swelling and none of the vets we have seen can figure out what is wrong with her.
We changed meds at the vet TODAY, so as of today her daily meds are: Niacinamide 500mg, 1 tablet every 8 hours Enalapril 10 mg, 2 tablets every 24 hours Meloxicam 7.5mg, 1/2 tablet every 24 hours 2nd Labrela injection
Prior to today, from (2/10-2/29) her meds were: Niacinamide 500mg, 1 tablet every 8 hours Amlodiapine 10mg, 1 tablet every 12 hours Meloxicam 7.5 mg, 1/2 tablet every 24 hours Gabapentin 400 mg, 1 tablet every 12 hours- she stopped taking this daily about a week ago (2/21)
From mid December through 2/10 her meds were: Amlodiapine 10 mg, 1 tablet every 12 hours Gabapentin 300 mg, 1 tablet every 12 hours Gabapentin 100 mg, 1 additional tablet every 12 hours as needed for pain Meloxicam 7.5 mg, 1/2 tablet every 24 hours. January- 1st Labrela injection.
Throughout December - February, she has had several combinations of different antibiotics after some vet visits due to infections that I'll explain more in detail about below. Those antibiotics are: Dec-jan: enroflaxacin 204mg & cephalexin 500mg. 3 separate rx's on these. At the most recent vet visits, they switched antibiotics, now we are on doxycycline 300mg for the next month.
Link to photos Link to ER medical report Link to bloodwork & report Link to Misc Vet reports, files & invoices.
We've been told repeatedly it's bacterial or autoimmune, and based on everything, most vets are now leaning toward autoimmune, however, the most severe toe incident had serious signs of infection. It's not cancerous, X-rays show no breaks or any abnormalities (I don't have the copy of this yet but will get it and update if we do).
She eats and drinks normally. she has had head shakes/nodding for years; recently her newest vet said it was likely due to her high blood pressure, for years her old vet (who retired) said it was just a normal "tired" old dog.
Approx 4 months ago, she lost her first toe nail on her RIGHT rear foot. About a month later, she lost her second toe nail, this one on her LEFT foot. Within the next month, she lost two more toenails, alternating feet. Her 3rd nail was on her RIGHT foot, and her 4th nail was on her LEFT foot.
About 2 weeks ago, we noticed her gums swelling, this weekend she was making- almost a grinding noise?- when she closed her mouth, her gums were so swollen.
Now the extra long details for more info if needed:
She lost her first toe nail in December ish. We don't have a good time frame because we initially thought it was injury, it wasn't until the second one fell out about a month later that we decided they could be related- so our time frames are much more pinpointed beginning in January.
She's battled constant bacterial infections, we have had her on different combinations of a miriad of antibiotics for almost 4 months. It feels like she's off the meds for a few days before she's showing signs of infection somewhere and she's back in for more rounds of antibiotics.
In her older age, she started struggling with normal movement, and we noticed her struggling to hunch over enough when passing bowels. In between the first toe nail and second toe nail falling out, she ended up with an abscess on her anal gland that ruptured which counted for one of her rounds of antibiotics. That moment is also when she was placed on her first Rx of Gabapentin, this was sometime in December I think.
Vets upped her gabapentin until she was comfortable, but then she lost feeling in her back legs/rear end. It was obvious she couldn't feel her bowel movements. She was urinating like normal, but she had an accident in the house almost daily when it came to pooping (and this is a dog that could and would go 24 hours with her legs crossed before she would even think about using the bathroom in the house. Like- literally, only one time as a puppy and it was my husband's fault- this is COMPLETELY abnormal behavior for her).
Friday, Jan 19th I noticed what looked like the beginning of her 3rd toenail falling off, I managed to get a photo of her RIGHT foot before it fell out, and I noticed a toe on her other, LEFT, foot swelling (the swelling did not happen with the first 3 toe nails falling out). On Saturday morning of Jan 20th her LEFT foot was so swollen she could hardly walk, and by that evening we were in the ER where she couldn't bear weight and the swelling was so bad it was bleeding through her pores (I don't know how else to describe it). They gave her antibiotics and told us to monitor the swelling. Her swelling progressed and by the next, Sunday morning we were back in the same ER but visited with a different, objectively more thorough vet. Saturday and Sunday her condition was bad enough the emergency vets had the "end of life, quality of life" talk with us.
Monday 1/22 she saw our regular vet, bearing weight, swelling had gone down
After the swelling decreased and she was moving normally, we lowered her gabapentin and weened her off of that during this time frame. We also started her on Labrela injections. Her bowel movements/accidents improved and since she has been off gabapentin she is showing signs of being able to feel when she needs to use the bathroom again, and she is posturing properly.
Labrela has also made a world of difference, 2 days ago she chased a bird, and for the first time in years, we're pretty sure she thought she had a shot at catching it. We haven't seen her run like that in at least 4 years.
Other normal signs of age: she can't hear, her cloudy eyes aren't as great as they used to be, and she begs for food without any regard for the manners she had for her first decade of life- and she does.not.care. she's the epitome of an 80 year old woman who will "do what she wants"
We're all stumped. No idea why her toe nails are falling out, what is protruding under the nail- it's growth like- and now her gums are swelling, but she's acting normal, eating and drinking normally, and she's more active in the last 2 weeks than she has been in the last 4 years. Please help us.
We have also had her DNA tested, results came back 50% weimeriner, 50% golden, but for years her vet thought ahe was a vizsla mix- whatever she is, she's my husband's heart dog and I'm desperate to get her some help.
We are not looking for a diagnosis, but we would love to try all of your guesses with our vet and ask them to run whatever tests or try whatever research someone else may have heard of. None of the vets we have seen to date have any idea what is causing it.

2024.02.23 14:33 ZookeepergameMean664 Root Abscess / Fear of Infection Spreading

Hi everyone! Very anxious owner here.
Long story short: I noticed a swelling on my dog’s face at the beginning of the month. We took her to the vet, and he gave us antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory to contain the infection for ten days and then we had an extraction scheduled for the 20th.
Her swelling went down completely, and she went three days without any signs of the swelling coming back at all.
I asked the vet if we could re-examine her and evaluate if the surgery was needed because I was very nervous about anesthesia and had a lot of questions to her vet that we never got the chance to ask.
I realize this is where I made a mistake and I feel AWFUL about it.
The swelling started coming back so we rescheduled the surgery for the 5th (I promise she will get it done this time) and she’s back on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication.
Last time, her swelling went down so quickly with the medication and the same hasn’t been happening. I feel so guilty. My mind keeps telling me her infection is going to spread and it’ll all be my fault.
Yesterday it seemed like the swelling was going down, but today it looks pretty swollen again. I did accidentally touch her face when I was trying to give her medication last night, so maybe that made it worse. I don’t know what to think. I’m just freaking out.
She is on medication, and she will get the tooth extracted in 12 days. She’s 4 and very healthy with no sings of any underlying condition. Is there any chance the antibiotics won’t work until the surgery and the infection will get worse?
Please, I am freaking out. Literally can’t function over the guilt of making the decision of not going through with the first extraction because I thought she was better. I can’t believe I caused her more pain.
She has been acting completely normal, still eating, playing, and begging for treats. I’m trying to stay calm and tell myself that I thought I was doing the right thing, but I’ll never forgive myself if this escalates. Should I be concerned about the infection spreading?
Appreciate any response I get here!
Edit: she started the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory on Wednesday. She takes Cephalexin 500mg every 12 hours and 1/2 of Previcox 227mg at night

2024.02.22 09:36 Aggressive_Aide1216 Less than two year old suspected stump pyometra-spayed December 22nd 2023

Hi this is my first time posting on here, any advice would be greatly appreciated! My dogs name is Sadie she’s a year and a few months (pocket bully). We got her spayed after her first heat, in December of last year, prior to that she did routine blood work and her vaccines, never had any issues with uti or bladder infection. In January (around the 19th) she started to pee blood clots the moment I noticed it I called the vet immediately and was able to take a urine sample so they can do urinalysis, the results came back two days later showing that she has a high white blood cell count indicating an infection. So they gave her a round of antibiotics (cephalexin) within one week the clotting stopped just before finishing her antibiotics she then started again with the bleeding and now dark red bloody discharge, I called again they told me that maybe it wasn’t long enough so we are now in our second round and same results, it’s her last day on Friday for her antibiotics and she’s now again having discharge. Otherwise she’s acting very normal, I check her gums regularly nice and pink, same appetite so drinking and eating normally, and her stool is very normal no blood and not to soft/hard. I’ve increase her potty time, play time so that she can drink more water. Has anyone has experience with their dog having stump pyometra? I’m calling the vet again as soon as they open to take her there, they said the next step is to check for stones, which I do not think she has, she’s peeing just fine and doesn’t seem in pain I’ve never deviated from the type of food she consumes. At this point I’m terrified and worried, we just applied to a mortgage loan and do not have the extra money for the surgery I think she will need.
Thanks

2024.02.19 05:55 Popular-Cut3410 Recurrent C-diff 2022-2024

Hey Everyone! I’ve been battling recurrent c-diff infections every since July 2022. I am wondering if anyone has similar experience & any advice?
I am currently a 25 Y.O female.
The start: I tested positive for dormant tuberculosis and put on antibiotics (isoniazid) for 9 months. Around the 6 month mark - I was attacked by a neighbors dog and put on amoxicillin w/ clav for the wound I received. However, the urgent care had stitched up my wound and this caused further infection — i was then placed on clindamycin & cephalexin at the same time. A couple weeks go by and sure enough I get c-diff! I took two weeks of vanco & within a week c diff had came back (keep in mind i am still on medication for dormant tb). I was then placed on Falgyl — can’t remember period but after finishing that the c diff had came back a couple of weeks later.
The abd pain was absolutely miserable that I had ended up vomiting and hard time keeping liquids down so then I went to the ER for my third infection. They did a CT and the doctor informed me that my colon looks inflamed and that I may have UC or crohns. After this visit I was put back on vancomycin and sent to infectious disease.
My PCP suggested GI doctor but because of my dormant tuberculosis medication I was sent to infectious disease.
I.D. put me on vanco 125 mg for three months and states that: 1. Probiotics do not help as it is not replenishing the bacteria that i am needing in my gut— is this true for those who experience c diff and tried probiotics? 2. That if this round did not work - he would double the dosage from vanco 125mg to 250mg and instead of 3 months, i would go for 6 months. 3. He states that once my infection clears and in the first year of being done with the vanco that if I were to ever go on antibiotics that I must be put back on vancomycin for the duration of the antibiotics as well as another two weeks after.
Long story short — after finishing my three months, my cdiff infection came back so we decided to try the 6 months of 250 mg vanco. (I am officially off TB meds by this point)
I ended up finishing antibiotics in August of 2023 and had no symptoms (yay!) but I noticed I had dropped 10 lbs pretty much randomly towards the last month of finishing vanco. I have never lost weight and always stayed a very consistent weight. I played college sports and my diet never changed. I also noticed there was a ton of mucus in my stool and I was constipated . I messaged my primary care and she sent me a referral to GI.
Sept 2023- I visit a GI NP and slowly explained what I have endured over the last year 1/2. She immediately placed me for to have a colonoscopy considering the CT scan I had at the ER showed inflammation and maybe I just had some sort of bowel disease.
October 2023- I go in for my colonoscopy and it comes back completely normal. They even did an endoscopy to take biopsy’s which also came back normal. However, a couple days go by and I immediately notice I have a UTI so I go to urgent care to get prescribed antibiotics. I tell my ID doctor and he prescribed vanco 250mg for the duration of the antibiotics (10 days) and two weeks after antibiotics are finished
Beginning Dec 2023- My c diff came back. I immediately messaged my ID. He puts me on vancomycin 250mg for a month.
Beginning of January 2024- Before i even finish my vanco course, I get strep, which means I get put back on antibiotics (amoxicillin) and my ID doctor prescribes me another month of vancomycin.
February 2024 - I am currently about to finish my vancomycin.
I feel like I cannot get healthy and that my immune system is completely shocked.
Is there a thing of too much vancomycin? Taking antibiotics every 6 hours has been exhausting.
Should I stop seeing my ID doctor and visit GI instead for my gut infection?
Should I try to take probiotics?
Any tips or similar experiences??
While my cdiff infection is active - my abd pain is extremely painful. Is this common?
Thank you so much for listening. It is hard to explain to my family what is going on and I could really use support.

2024.01.26 03:09 TheluckySnailz GSD with re-occurring Infection?

GSD with re-occurring Infection?
Our family dog is an 11 year old German Shepherd that has been having issues with her skin lately, specifically one swollen patch on her leg. Back in July, I noticed flaking crusty patches on her back. I left for a trip and came back Mid-august to see it had gotten worse and a bald spot on her leg was forming. Over the next month and a bit I convinced my parents to take her to the vet (we have full coverage may I add smh). Large patches of balding flakey skin on her back and chest area plus the leg. The vet said the infection on her leg was aggressive and she also had some kind of skin infection (plus an ear infection too actually). She ended up on cephalexin antibiotics and a steroid called prednisone for her leg paired with topical liquid called Phytosphingosine and an antibiotic wash once a week. It took multiple vet visits and more rounds of antibiotics but it did eventually subside. Her dry patches had fully healed and her leg was healing up by mid November. The past few days I’ve noticed the dry patches coming back and her leg is being licked raw again. It’s swollen again and seems almost callous from last time. I wanted to post videos of what it looked like the first time and a couple photos of what’s starting again but can only do one attachment. If anyone has any further insight or experience with this, please help me out!! I was almost thinking allergies but with the aggressive bacteria it doesn’t make sense. Photo will be what’s starting again.

2024.01.13 19:44 valdezd15 Did my dog get bit by a spider? A little freaked out.

Hello, this seemed like a good place to post this question regarding whether or not my dog got bit by a spider on top of his tail? We notice that he started licking the area raw to where it was bleeding yesterday morning but I put a cone on him and it’s starting to turn black now.

I started to get worried so I called my dad who has some livestock and knows some vets and they gave me cephalexin (antibiotics) to start him on.
Just freaking out a little because I don’t know if the wound is healing because it’s scabbing over or is the flesh deteriorating from the inside out?
It does bother him when I try and touch around the area. Any insight or suggestions? Thank you.

2023.12.19 02:59 BeccaDevens Gary the Red Nose Puppy🎵🎵🎵

Gary’s nose has been gradually getting pinker since we adopted him in July. I originally thought it was from digging and sniffing and playing and put aquaphor on it. It would seem to get a little better and then it wouldn’t and finally we made a bet appointment realizing this isn’t just a normal chapped nose.
We took him to the vet, they did skin scrapes, said nothing showed, which I assume means it’s not fungal or bacterial and it was specifically said that it isn’t mites. She gave him two weeks of Cephalexin BID X 14 days and some sort of steroid drops BID also. He’s on day 9 and it looks worse to me. They said it might be some sort of skin disorder common in collies but basically they dunno. And she suggested we keep him out of the sun. But he is a dog. So….
He might rub on it a bit but not a crazy amount. It doesn’t seem to be bugging him too much. He’s 51 pounds, a year old, eats Purina One. He gets lots of walks (in the sun unfortunately) and is a generally happy pup. I don’t let him dig anymore but he does play with his sister regularly and wrestles around. His sister digs much more and doesn’t have any nose issues.
I read a little about the Collie rash and it sounds like it could be some sort of dog lupus?
I would love to know if anyone has seen a snoot like this with no apparent parasites, bacteria, or fungi, and had any success with at least soothing it and making it less angry.
Thanks.

2023.12.10 17:36 A-A-wrong Milky ear discharge continues after antibiotics in 14 year old dog

Our beloved 60lb. Golden doodle was diagnosed with a bacterial ear infection after a culture and has been on antibiotics (600mg cephalexin twice daily) for 10 days of a 20 day regimen.
We noticed he began shaking his head again last night and after checking his ears this morning we noticed the same smelly, yellowish milky discharge was pooled in his ear canal- worse than when we first took him to the vet!
He’s 14, but he’s in remarkable condition- He just had his annual senior dog blood panel in early November and the vets were stunned with how healthy he appeared inside and out.
Do we continue the antibiotic course and cross our fingers or is this a clear sign that he’s on the wrong antibiotics?

2023.12.08 13:07 PTG2006 Has anyone seen this type of infection on a dog before ?

Has anyone seen a skin infection on a dog like this?
On October 24, my dog had a sudden abcess develop on her back ( unsure of cause .. spider bite or animal bite even though she’s not an outside dog? ). The vet irrigated it and put her on augmentin for two weeks. During this time She then developed reactive lyphadenitis in the groin on the same side of the abscess . That did not get better with anti inflammatory and antibiotic treatment. The swollen lymph node in her groin then ulcerated . A second vet put her on cephalexin for four weeks. Now three weeks into that course , small areas keep opening up on her back. All lab work is normal , aspiration of the lymph node was inconclusive, xray of abdomen was normal , negative for fungal infection , no fever or other signs of systemic issues other than poor appetite from antibiotics and lack of energy. We do have a culture of the back wounds pending. She is a Labradoodle mix. I’ve kept the area clean and shaved in order to keep an eye on the spread . She is stumping multiple vets. Anyone experienced this before ? I would add pictures but this forum does not allow that.

2023.12.02 06:45 lovesavvyd86 In ER dog received Methadone, Bupropion, Amoxicillin and Cephalexin but otc aleve or aspirin is a no no?

First time with a pet emergency, so pretty inexperienced in all of it but seeing the bill for my dog with a fractured radius and ulna has been a bit mind blowing. When I asked about the meds listed on my bill, the vet shrugged it off saying “when he gets the plates put in, they’ll give him Fentanyl!” Prior to agreeing to treatment by paying the $1700 up front I questioned the need for 6 bags of saline and a $560 pelvis Xray since he was walking without difficulty and was told “you could choose to Euthanize if you can’t afford it.” What The Hell
