Blurryface Music Videos/ Important info going in

On 3/16/2015, "Fairly Local" was uploaded to youtube, shoeing in a brand new dark and disturbing era for twenty one pilots. It took place in a frozen and abandoned building, and featured the vocalist, Tyler, in red contacts with his hands and neck covered in black, almost as if the color was swallowing him. It also featured Josh, the drummer, with red hair and intense red eyeshadow playing his drum set while it flew way from him. The video showcased a deep battle between two forces controlling Tyler. Someone named Blurryface, and his actual self. The color red is extremely important in this story, and is always associated with Blurryface and evil. In "Heavydirtysoul" we saw Tyler being driven by an unseen figure, and later on the car caught on fire before almost hitting Josh in the middle of the road, who was also playing a flaming drum set. The burning car is a recurring theme throughout this story, always showing up during moments of personal power or rebellion. The frozen land and snow is also a recurring theme (and this era went unnecessarily hard looking back at it).

The Hiatus (2017-2018)

On July 6th, 2017, twenty one pilots began a year long hiatus with a series of cryptic tweets showing a red eye slowly closing.
(left to right) YOULL HAVE TO COME AND FIND ME MY PRETTY SLEEPER WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT IF WE COULD JUST LAY DOWN? I WILL FEAR THE NIGHT AGAIN
NOBODY DREAMS WHEN THEY BLINK REMEMBER THE MORNING IS WHEN NIGHT IS DEAD AND NOW I JUST SIT IN SILENCE
After almost a year of silence, the gif on top of the Vessel store page updated to show a glitched-out url which brought you to a site called http://dmaorg.info/found/15398642_14/clancy.html.This is where the band would slowly build their new world and tease their new records. They continue to utilize this site for updates to this day.
On 7/2/18, members of their mailing list received an email titled “ARE YOU STILL SLEEPING?” with a gif of a yellow vulture’s eye with clips of Jumpsuit playing in the pupil. The eye officially opened on 7/10/18 with the release of “Jumpsuit” and “Nico and the Niners”, revealing the new logo -//

DMAORG (in a nutshell)

dmaorg.info is a website domain officially created and hosted by the band Twenty One Pilots and used mainly as an online conceptual teaser for their 2018 album "TRENCH". It featured a cryptic background story and important lore information referenced in the songs and music videos of the TRENCH era.
The domain was first discovered by the fanbase on 4/21/2018, during the band’s hiatus between Blurryface and Trench through a link hidden inside the Twenty One Pilots’ official merch store website. The original link led to an exclusive 404 error page, telling the viewer “they’re in violation” and “no one should know about this” while showing a violation code
https://preview.redd.it/rovuirppiaxc1.png?width=1774&format=png&auto=webp&s=d55c5fc13d967bb5d776bbe15bc32f0c8a8319e9

When pasted correctly into the URL of the website, the violation code granted access to another page of dmaorg.info containing journals and images telling the story of Clancy, a disillusioned fictional character living inside a circular theocratic city loomed by huge walls and ruled by nine bishops – the Sacred Municipality of Dema. It sat nestled in the lower region of the large and wild continent of Trench.
brief scroll-through of early dmaorg.info
The religion the city follows is called Vialism, where the end goal is to take your own life as it is the only route to Paradise, and that the bland dystopia they are living in should be embraced. The Bishops' names were a combination of lyrics from different songs on "Blurryface". The Bishops were as follows:
Andre, Lisden, Keons, Nico, Reisdro, Sacarver, Nills, Vetomo, Listo
Andre= fairly local- ANDREpeat yesterday's dance Lisden= Polarize-all I feeL IS DENial Keons= Heavydirtysoul-choKEONSmoke Nico-Stressed Out- N/A Reisdro= Doubt -temperatuRE IS DROpping Sacarver= Tear in My Heart- sheS ACARVER Nills= Goner- beaten dowNILL Slip away Vetomo= Lane Boy- will they be aliVE TOMOrrow Listo= Ride- a LIST Of people
Clancy started to question Dema and Vialism 9 years after arriving. His dismay grew as his struggles with Dema became visible and the call for “more” became stronger, and he formulated a plan to escape, attempting multiple times before Nico (calls himself Blurryface), the head bishop, finds him and brings him back.
He convinced Nico one day to leave the city, and destroyed the car they were driving (events of heavydirtysoul). He succeeds in escaping Nico yet again, but after getting lost in the unknown wilderness of Trench, he grew weary and anxious. Nico found him yet again in a narrow valley 5 days later. This time was different however, as he stumbled across a group of people on the clifftops of Trench. The Banditos, the rebel group he only ever heard rumors of (the events of "Jumpsuit").
After being returned to Dema, the Banditos returned for Clancy and got him out during the Annual Assemblage of the Glorified, which is a disturbing annual ritual that only the most upstanding citizens of Dema called “The Glorified” may attend, where they become the ”Glorious Gone” (they die) and become available vessels for the Bishops to use( events of "Nico and the Niners"). They brought him back to their camp and taught him their ways, but the cycle was just too strong and he was taken back (events of Levitate).
We didn't hear from Clancy again until the release of the "Chlorine" music video, where we were introduced to Ned. In this letter, he talked about his time outside in Trench and noted that he felt torn between the two places, but interestingly enough he called Dema home- something he never thought he could be able to do again.
On 4/2/2021, the website updated to show a progress bar that would result in the site being terminated, and a complete inversion of colors.
On 4/5/2021, all files in the subdomain were deleted and the website showed up an “Account Terminated” message instead, showing that the Bishops had found and overtaken the site, while also hiding some images teasing the next era of the band's projects.

After almost a year of silence, on 3/16/2022 the site updated with a new map of the continent of Trench which introduced the island of Voldsøy-the Norwegian word for “Violence Island.”
Map of the Continent of Trench. Notable locations include the main continent, the City of Dema, Port Vial, and the island Voldsøy
With this map, we saw the return of Clancy and the Torchbearer after they washed up on the island following the events of the Saturday music video. Clancy talked about how he was being used as propaganda, the performance he was to give on the ship for another Annual Assemblage of the Glorified, and how they were attacked by a strange creature under the water. He notes that the Bishops on the ship weren't real. Throughout a couple of days, Clancy lamented about his struggles back in captivity in the city and formulated his plan to take down the bishops, eventually finding a way to succeed.
On 3/17/22, a schematic was uploaded showing steps to some type of ritual labeled as “psychokinesis”, and that they must “seize the available vessel”. On the next line it states that the available vessel is something that could be considered a “Glorious Gone”, so in essence its a dead body.
On March 18th, 2022, Clancy discovered how to perform psychokinesis using a weapon fashioned by some curious little creatures on Voldsøy, affectionately identified as "Ned" (Neuro Expansion Device). They were thought to have been extinct. We see Ned in the Chlorine music video, and hanging out by the fire in “Ned’s cozy fireplace
These little creatures have special antlers that the bishops use for seizing their deceased victims, allowing them to inhabit their body and take control of them until they inevitably start to decay. However, they seem to be working with Keons who betrayed Nico.
We saw these events play out in "The Outside" music video, which is explained further down in the thread.
Fun fact-the neds call each other ned and write letters to each other :D
letter to ned from ned, with a drawing of the \"Trees\" tree visual
"ned,

hope you ar well

On 2/13/2024, 1500 scary red letters were sent out to the public by the Sacred Municipality of Dema containing evidence seemingly seized from Clancy's belongings. It included a new letter from Clancy, where he talked about having renewed hope in his plan, an updated map showing the new Paladin Strait between Voldsøy and the mainland of Trench, and a request for information on Clancy's whereabouts from the Bishops of Dema. Both letters included hidden messages, but handwritten was a question.

Chlorine Music Video

Watch "Chlorine" here
On 1/22/2019, the "Chlorine" music video was uploaded to youtube. In this music video, we saw an entirely alternate reality than the one we were accustomed to. Tyler and Josh were just some pool-cleaning guys who stumbled across a little funky shy guy in Australia (its Ned). Nothing out of the ordinary there. Over the course of the video, Ned started to come out of his shell as he became very interested in what the boys were pouring into the pool (it was chlorine). Tyler had a cup the whole time, but he merely pondered it instead of taking a sip. During the bridge, when the pool is filled, Ned took a dip and grew a full set of antlers. He sat down with Tyler at the end of the video, where Tyler offered him a sip of his drink and he politely declined while looking mildly disgusted. This video didn’t seem like it had too much lore significance at first. However, its repeated symbolism throughout the story and the return of Ned, the introduction of him coinciding with a letter that seems to directly contradict what we saw in natn/levitate music videos, and his significance later on, it feels too important to not include his origin…

The Hype

Watch "The Hype" here
on 7/26/2019, "The Hype" music video was uploaded after recruiting a bunch of fans to partake. We're invited into Tyler's chest where there's a sick house concert happening, and everything is plaid. Everyone is wearing plaid. As the video progresses, everyone starts wearing more plaid. Even the house is wearing plaid. The camera pans out to the crowd and its just a bunch of people wearing plaid but Ned is there too (he is wearing plaid but he doesn't have antlers). The plaid levels increased to critical amounts, and the house simply could not contain it and it exploded. Tyler and Josh fell back through the roof, and continued their performance layered in flannel as the house rebuilt itself around them. As they slowly took off their tartan shackles, they placed yellow tape over the broken pieces.

Level of Concern ARG

The level of concern ARG was a long, arduous, and extremely complicated online scavenger hunt that was put on by the band in July of 2020. It was designed to last over a week, but we figured it out in 12 hours. It started with a cryptic livestream on youtube that just showed a room of analog tvs that would play a distorted clip of Level of Concern on repeat, occasionally interjected by jarring audio bits. On the tv screens, various gifs and images would cycle through and occasionally a complex code would show up on screen, leading to various webpages and puzzles. There were a total of 20 codes that needed to be entered on usb.twentyonepilots.com. Once code 20 was entered, the first 500 people needed to enter their address, and they received a USB drive in the mail. This usb contained various cryptic files, demos, and goofy images from early in the Vessel era, including a video from Tyler thanking the fans for playing the game and figuring out the codes. Behind him, an analog tv flashes the phrase “Clancy is dead” in code, as can be seen here
Clancy Is Dead (FULL WITH AUDIO)
You can watch the recap of how the codes were found for yourself here.

The Live Experience Control Room

After dmaorg.info was terminated, the site was hiding a few images teasing the new era.
70's style Scaled and Icy promo posters
After the release of “Shy Away”, live.twentyonepilots.com was made available to the public, and we were introduced to our icy yellow-eyed friend, Trash the Dragon. The site led to a control room where you could explore dozens of easter eggs, purchase merchandise, and wait for incoming song premieres leading up to the release of their 6th album “Scaled and Icy” - which happens to be an anagram for “clancy is dead”. It was also here that Dema held their first ever live performance, an event designed to entertain(indoctrinate) the citizens of Dema, and Clancy was the star. However, he was repeatedly referred to as Tyler during the show.

Choker Music Video

Watch "Choker" here
The Choker music video was a very interesting, seemingly light hearted and silly addition to this saga. It started off in a similar manner to the “Chlorine” music video (which is explained further down).
This time, it’s set in a normal area of Columbus, Ohio, and filled with various alleyways (which we could later explore in the Roblox live event…i wont get into that here). Tyler, wearing an orange beanie, walked nervously into a toy store and was met with its employees Josh and Jim (josh’s dog). He got to the counter, and really wanted the blue dragon in the case, but Josh just started drumming. Tyler tried to get his attention, but Josh was locked in and slamming away. Tyler, now frustrated, turned back and explored the shop a little more and was startled by a sudden blue flash.
Something to note, when he turned around the first time, Josh was in the same position he was in when Tyler walked in and the drums were nowhere to be found.
He turned back around and went back to the counter, and Jim had turned into a little toy with a blue bandana. Josh tenderly picked up the little dragon from before and set it on the counter in front of Tyler. He heavily pondered it for a moment, before deciding to yoink it right in front of Josh and dip. Tyler didn’t realize shoplifting was against the rules. Josh chased him down with a massive gun. He caught up with Tyler and shot a giant net at him, knocking him over and encapsulating him, and Josh dragged him back to the shop. Once they reached the front, Josh opened his mouth and just absolutely smited Tyler, turning him into a bobblehead on the shelf next to Jim and the nearly liberated Trash toy.

The Livestream Experience

The show started off as a 70’s style morning show called “Good Day Dema” with its eccentric hosts Dan Lisden and Sally Sacarver. It opened with Tyler (Clancy) sitting on the couch in between the two bishops looking positively miserable, and the bishops scornfully mocking him and insulting Josh.
Dan Lisden (left), Tyler (middle), Sally Sacarver (right)
Then they transitioned into Choker, a single from Scaled and Icy. The show was a concert filled with various mashups and interesting cutoffs, always being stopped or changed during a song or lyrics about rebellion or personal power. Occasionally, the bishop hosts would come back in little infomercial segments to promote Scaled and Icy, though curiously looking more and more beat up and…for lack of better phrasing they were decaying. The bishops had seized these two people and were living vicariously through their bodies while they slowly rotted during the performance to give off the impression of manufactured joy.
Dan Lisden with blooddrippuing down his shirt during the 2nd informercial break, then actively decaying during the last break
Sally Sacarver looking a little worse for wear (no pun intended)-second infomercial break, then actively cementing herself into my nightmares- Last infomercial break
In the middle of the performance, just before “Lane Boy”, the bishops came on screen with half of their faces painted black reciting the “Stay Low” poem. The last verse of “Redecorate” was put into the end of “Lane Boy”, and was cut off by “Chlorine”. After a solemn moment during Heathens/Trees, Josh returned as the Torchbearer and they performed some songs off of Trench, burning car on stage included. After this segment concluded with heavydirtysoul, the bishops came back for their final infomercial dripping blood and threatening the audience, and then played it off like nothing happened.
The performance carried on, eventually getting to Car Radio where alarms started to blare, and chaos erupted in the studio. “Never Take It” was last on the setlist, performed in a street filled with burning cars and running people. After the song ended, Tyler slowly and begrudgingly trudged back to the first set with the bishops-who were somehow looking completely normal, and finished the end of Choker, and then everyone stood up and clapped.

Saturday Music Video

Watch "Saturday" here
On 7/8/21, the next Annual Assemblage of the Glorified was set to take place. Because of the smashing success of the livestream, the bishops decided to hold a party on a submarine and have Clancy and Josh be the main performers. They sent bishop imposters (bishposters?) to control the ship and make sure everything was going smoothly. Everything did not go smoothly. A massive dragon (trash) attacked the ship, nearly drowning everyone, but 21 people are shown to have survived overall (the other 19 pilots?)

The Outside Music Video/Weapon

Watch "The Outside" here
On 3/18/22, the Outside music video was uploaded after a few days of updates on dmaorg. It began with a visual of Trash, the 9 bishops, and Keons in the center holding a pair of antlers, having been caught controlling Trash and betraying the other Bishops. Then they just start stabbing. Julius Caesar style. not a fun way to go, i won’t lie. The yellow glow in Keons’ eyes dimmed, and so too did the life in Trash as he sank to the ocean floor. Clancy (Tyler??) washed up on the frozen island of Voldsøy, covered in snow. Josh/The Torchbearer came up and picked Clancy up by his collar and they walked off, eventually finding a break in the foliage. They discovered a cliff face with a cave opening, and a little guy welcoming them in. it’s Ned!! They walked through the narrow cave passages, spitting some fire bars on the way, eventually arriving at a rotation you couldn’t have dreamed up better. A bunch of Neds, all hanging out by the fire. The Ned that welcomed them in started to leave through a side cave, but Clancy and the Torchbearer followed. They met Ned on the beach, who broke his antlers to give to Clancy. He posted a schematic for a ritual to harness the power of psychokinesis.
w-eap-ø-n
The bottom reads:
seize available vessel at Voldsoy eastern cove intercept bishops. _____________________________ glorious gone = available vessel ________________________________ bishops control the available vessel! intercept and seize _________________________________ they will make you a weapon _________________________________
The top letters unscramble to say “seize keons”
The Neds began performing the motions, and Clancy followed- somehow taking control of Keons’ body. He was an available vessel after all! After emoting in front of the bishops, he destroyed one of the towering lights in front of him. Keons’ body fell to the ground, and Clancy regained control of his own body. He later wrote about the experience in the most recent letter update on dmaorg. After Clancy regained control of his body, he’s seen with the Torchbearer waiting for a signal. On the other side of the Strait, dozens of banditos return the signal, cutting to a blue flaming city behind them
On 3/18/2022 Clancy uploaded the most recent **digital*\* letter to the site
What is this thing? This device? This gift? Some sort of neurological connection or expansion. Psychokinetic weapon? This is absurd. Why was this given to me? Why am I the only one that can wield it? Was this the reason that I survived? My mind is racing as I wait here on the rocks -- staring off into the darkness. Waiting for our torches to be mirrored - the signal he told me to wait for. It feels oddly familiar. Not the spikes in my hand, but the power it harnesses, I've felt it before. Is this also the source of those rumors I heard in the dark corners of the city? Legends and stories that I assumed were myth, inspired by children's nightmares -- tales of what the bishops would use the bodies for. Those "honorable" citizens who acheived The Glorious Gone -- referred to as available vessels. It all begins to make sense. The episodes I would have: the blood red vision, my dreams of flying, the out of body account of the rider in the river, the decaying hosts of the television show, the robed figures that commanded the doomed ship... Had we all been "seized" by the bishops using this same technique? Is this where their power comes from? Are they immortal, or just feeding off the next body, giving their hosts a brief second-life? I am in my original life, why am I available to this control? This whole time I thought I was battling my inner self. Was I actually under assault for something else? someONE else? This small eerie island has made me a weapon. We both believe that we can use it to change the momentum of this war. Now, we must return to the mainland where they should be there to recieve is. We will destroy and rebuild. Though it's been years since he last spoke with them, I hope they have not lost faith in The Torchbearers plan. But how could any of this have been planned? -Clancy

I Am Clancy

Watch "I am Clancy" here
On 2/22/24, a new spoken letter was uploaded to the youtube from Clancy, basically narrating what you just read. In a portion of the video where it shows the map of Dema, Keons' tower is grayed out. He explained his story, what happened to the Bishops, and how he's an exception to the strange powers the Bishops wield. He's taking back his own identity, and he is going to return to Trench to finish what he's started.

Red Tape

On 2/17/2024, the band updated their studio album covers to include red tape. The best running theory is that the red tape signifies bishop control. That's why keon's circle is taped, why trash is taped, why clifford is taped specifically to cover leave the city. the city is still under bishop control, and the vultures are property of Dema for surveillance. since the grandfathers are taped, and trench is in the shape of a brain, i can only assume that insinuates that the bishops have control over the continent somehow since many ideas from vessel are used in this story. or, to go along with my other theory in the next part, clancy is so focused on getting back to trench that its clouding his vision
the red tape seems to only be partially (but still almost fully) covering the eyes of the subjects on the cover
________________________________________________

Important details that couldn't really fit anywhere

  • Nico is the only bishop without matching lyrics, and he is repeatedly noted to not be present at gatherings with the other 8 bishops
  • There is a tie to "Nicholas Bourbaki" which was a pseudonym for a group of French mathematicians that formed after the first world war in response to needing to use dated texts for scholarly work due to a generation of their mathematicians being slaughtered. Their goal was to publish updated and accurate information when there was none available. The name is mentioned in "Morph", they also came up with the mathematical ø.
  • the bishops cannot see yellow, that is why it is the color of the rebellion, and blue means defeat according to blurryface's twitter.
  • Nico has been known to be the harshest bishop, while Keons stands out as the most compassionate and kind according to Clancy.
  • KEONS IS THE ONE WHO WAS STABBED AND KILLED. NOT NICO. we saw this during The Outside, and he was shown during "I am Clancy" with further confirmation from Mark
part 2 is continued here <3
If i have missed anything you feel is deeply important to understanding the basics of the lore, please let me know!! I’m going to be updating this thread as things come in. In the meantime, i hope this answers your basic questions and happy theorizing!

2024.04.28 20:16 DutfieldJack REQUEST: Destiny should read a WWI Era poem at the start of each book reading

Reasons:
  1. History is not just facts and dates on a page, but historians feel it is important to try and immerse themselves into the time period, hence why Macmillian uses the Paris Exposition as an allegory for the divisions in Europe and expresses the need to disregard hindsight. Reading poems is a fun engaging way to immerse yourself into the ideas and themes that contemporary voices felt important.
  2. Poetry is super interesting in its own right.
  3. Poetry is a fun primary source and is often cited in history books of the time period.
  4. It is not a time-significant investment, If you're about to do 90 minutes of reading, then reading a 30-second poem at the start is not a significant loss. The community can compile a list of poems to save you from doing it.
  5. The First World War led to the death of 40 million people, in history we can be very detached to that human loss, especially as the last of the great war veterans have now passed away, this is a good way to remember them.
Bonus: On stream, Macmillian is currently talking about how Europeans did not think a great powers war was possible. Gilbert's First World War: A Complete History, effectively uses a poem to supplement this belief:
"The war of 1870 had been the last war of the nineteenth century between the European powers. Three thousand soldiers had been killed on each side at the Battle of Sedan. In the civil strife that followed in France, more than 25,000 Communards had been executed in Paris, by Frenchmen. Wars, and their aftermath, were known by this example to be costly in human lives and unpredictable, even vicious, in their outcome. After 1870 the German, French, Belgian and British Empires each had its saga of war, defeat and slaughter overseas. Napoleon III’s son the Prince Imperial was among the hundreds of British soldiers killed in 1879 by Zulus at and after the Battle of Isandlwana. In 1894 Lieutenant-Colonel Joffre led a French column through the Sahara in the conquest of Timbuctu. At the turn of the century a German Colonel, Erich von Falkenhayn, won a reputation for ruthlessness during the international expedition to crush the Boxer Rebellion in China, the occasion during which the Kaiser William II likened the German troops to the Huns, thus coining a phrase that was eventually to be used against them. ‘Just as the Huns a thousand years ago under the leadership of Attila gained a reputation by virtue of which they live in the historical tradition,’ he said, ‘so may the name of Germany become known in such a manner in China that no Chinese will ever dare again look askance at a German.’1 These often distant but always bloody wars offered a warning to those who cared to listen. In 1896 the British poet and classicist A. E. Housman expressed the cruelty of war in his poem ‘A Shropshire Lad’:
On the idle hill of summer, Sleepy with the flow of streams, Far I hear the steady drummer Drumming like a noise in dreams.
Far and near and low and louder On the roads of earth go by, Dear to friends and food for powder, Soldiers marching, all to die.
East and west on fields forgotten Bleach the bones of comrades slain, Lovely lads and dead and rotten; None that go return again.
Far the calling bugles hollo, High the screaming fife replies, Gay the files of scarlet follow: Woman bore me, I will rise
Housman’s warning sentiments were echoed five years later in the British House of Commons, by Winston Churchill, then a 26-year-old Conservative Member of Parliament. Having experienced fighting in India, in the Sudan and in the Boer War, Churchill found himself when back in London listening to calls for an army capable of fighting a European foe. ‘I have frequently been astonished to hear with what composure and how glibly Members, and even Ministers, talk of a European war,’ he declared on 13 May 1901, three months after entering Parliament, and he went on to make the point that, whereas in the past wars had been fought ‘by small regular armies of professional soldiers’, in the future, when ‘mighty populations are impelled on each other’, a European war could only end ‘in the ruin of the vanquished and the scarcely less fatal commercial dislocation and exhaustion of the conquerors’. Democracy, Churchill warned, would be ‘more vindictive’ than the courts and cabinets of old: ‘The wars of peoples will be more terrible than those of kings.’ Ten years later, on 9 August 1911, as German war fever was being whipped up against Britain and France over Germany’s claim for a port on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, the German Social Democrat leader August Bebel warned the Reichstag that a European war could lead to revolution. He was laughed at as an alarmist, one parliamentarian calling out: ‘After every war things are better!". The rivalries from which wars sprang could not be assuaged by the logic of anti-war sentiment."

2024.04.28 11:35 Severe-Actuary9562 Actually I don't need to make new friends, I'm fine...

Over the last few years or so I haven't been out much, at all really. My social life basically shut down. A few acquaintances, the people that you see every so often around town and share a few pointless words with.
'Hows the family?', 'Are you still working there?', 'Good to see you'. Just pointless banter and small talk.
Last week something different happened, I got invited to a dinner.
Freida, she said her name was, a friend of an acquaintance, Jung. I was at the market downtown when I ran into them. Both of them had like some kind of weird 'aura' about them. Hard to describe but it was like everything in this world was going well for them. Almost like these people were living in a whole different set of rules or society... I know it sounds crazy.
But anyways, at the market, this girl Frieda invited us over for dinner. I thought why not just do something out of the ordinary. It's not like she was a complete stranger, friend of a 'friend', why not have a dinner at her place?
So I got to her apartment around six and she buzzed me in. This was the nice part of town, marble fountain outside, metallic trim, expensive cars everywhere. Another 'successful' person I thought, really trying not to be jealous.
So I get to her apartment and the floor is eerily quiet, almost like, literally no one lives there. So when she opens the door and let's me in I'm all awkward, and try and make a corny joke about it like 'wow, you got this whole floor to yourself or something?' (yeah I know it's a lame joke) to break the ice or whatever, idk, like I said I haven't been social for a while.
But what was weird was she looked at me and said 'why yes I do...' and sort of chuckled it off. You know how you can sort of tell when someone is joking or telling the truth, well I got the feel that she was actually serious.
Okay, maybe she's loaded?
So she put on this jazz record and offered something to drink. We were talking for a while and I actually started to relax a bit. The other acquaintance Jung was supposed to show up but he cancelled last minute. At first it was a little weird, well I'm socially inept or whatever but it was fine.
So after a while she showed me around a little and started to prep the food. Clearly she did have money, the apartment was nice, designer furniture, classy artwork, the works. I sort of felt out of place to be honest.
She started cooking and I went to the washroom and that's when things started to go, uh, awry. Now look, I know this is going to sound absolutely batshit insane but I'm serious about this.
When I got into the washroom I saw this beautiful painting. It was mesmerizing. Now the subject was nothing out of the ordinary, just some village but the technique was incredible. I looked closely at the name of the painter and it was signed with nothing other than a large 'F'.
Now this is where you'll need a tinfoil hat, cause I'm about to start connecting red strings all over the board and it's not gonna make sense but I'm telling you... just trust me okay.
So I go back to the kitchen and Frieda isn't there. I call out, and there's nothing but silence. Then I start thinking about how there was no noise on the floor and sort of get weirded out. Like I don't even know this person at all really... then she seemingly appeared out of nowhere behind me.
It actually was strange how silent she was.
I tried to make conversation.
"That's a brilliant painting you have in the washroom." I said
"Oh? Do you like it?' she said inquisitively.
"Yeah, it's so mundane but somehow brilliant at the same time. Who is it by? There was only an 'F' in the corner"
'It's my work, I painted it' she said deadpan while chopping away.
'Y-you painted it?' I said stunned, the work was exceptional, surely she was joking. It was clearly a print of one of the European 'masters'. Great... another bullshitter, I thought.
'No word of a lie, that is my painting.' she said still deadpan. I could swear her focus was intensified as she was cutting. The chop sound echoing rhythmically.
"You must but joking. That has to be a print. You paint? No one who paints like that would be working as a chef! Come on, it looks like it was painted a hundred years ago...' I was saying the words but really, I almost didn't believe it myself, because I got no sense she was lying at all.
"What can I say?' as if she was posing the question to herself literally.
'I painted it." she said as if it was final, then a subtle smirk.
Was that disdain?
'Right... wow, that's incredible' I said uncomfortably.
This was no ordinary painting. Why lie about something like that? The vibe was just weird now.
Did she really paint it?
She put a plate in front of me, the steam rising rapidly. 'Bon apetit' she said in perfect french. The dish looked incredible, some type of vegetable cream. In spite of the awkwardness that had just transpired I began to eat.
My mouth fell open. The dish looked incredible, but the taste was... it was horrendous. Almost rancid, like artichokes that had gone off. Compost. I struggled not to gag. The creamy texture only worsened the pungent bite.
"Not to your palette?" she said amused, her accent taunting me.
"I'm sorry... no" I said embarrassed covering my mouth as I strained, trying not to cough.
"I'm really sorry' I said tears forming in the outer corners of my eyes. The smell had been no indication of the horrible taste.
That's when I really started to look around the room.
As if the pungent taste of the dish had almost woken me up. I started to notice how bizarre some of the decor really was. I brazenly began to walk around inspecting the items in her apartment closely.
A bust... 'Freidrich Heimer II' I said confused. 'You have a bust of Freidrich Heimer the second?' my tone almost weary. Some part of my brain was working in overdrive; an irrational paranoia after the encounter with the bitter dish. 'It must have been poison...' a voice said in the back of my head.
"I try to keep myself inspired" she said emotionless
"Freidrich Heimer II keeps you inspired... but why?" I said confused
"Like I said... I try to keep, my self... inspired" she said reiterating.
Keep herself inspired... what? I looked at the bust and back at her. Was I losing my mind or did she look like him in some bizarre way. I pinched my eyes, my forehead now damp. I had to get going, it was definitely awkward now, at least for me at that point.
I looked around some more. A shelf filled with memorabilia from some vlogger I had never heard of "Fred-ay!". A platinum plaque congratulating 'Fred-ay!' on his accomplishments.
How on earth did she get this?
"Wow... big fan I said" trying not to sound judgemental. "The plaque even... replica? Must have cost a fortune." I said trying to force a smile.
"They sent it to me. Why would I pay for it?" she said laughing as if it was the stupidest thing she had heard.
"To... you... they sent it to you?" I said confused "You paint like the renaissance, a 5 star chef, and you've worked for a famous vlogger?" She really was a bullshitter...
"You could say that" she said coldly as she danced her fingers along the chefs blade.
I looked at a book on the coffee table. 'Fredrickton...' I said a lump forming in my throat.
'Oh yes, one of my favourites. Rough start we had there..." she was now carving into the counter top with the tip of the blade ever so gently...
I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone, Was I was getting dizzy? Maybe I wasn't paranoid after all? Was my temperature rising? I had to sit down. I looked at the table beside me.
Another book that looked ancient 'Classical Poems of Friedrick Durrple'... everything in this room was connected to either a 'Fred' or 'Freida'. I was bewildered, it was incredibly strange. Why did she have all of this?
Obsessed with her own name???
"Oh those were the days... people were more trusting back then. In general at least" it sounded like she was recounting personal experience and not giving her opinion on a bygone age.
"Some of my best work" she gripped the blade, now in her hand, she had walked around the island in the kitchen and was slowly walking toward the living room.
"Your work..." I said in a daze almost
"I've lived a full life... what can I say?" she said as she flipped the blade expertly through her fingers.
I really was starting to feel sick. This didn't make any sense. I was really going to pass out. This didn't happen in real life I thought... I never go out, and the first night I do, it's to a deranged persons house?
I fell to the floor, sweating profusely. I was losing consciousness.
"Are you ready to...'
"Die?" she said as she slowly lifted the blade.
'No...' was all I could muster, my throat dry. Slowly her face began to contort grotesquely, round and pale, her eyes large and beady, pitch black. Her mouth formed into an impossible Cheshire grin, donning pointed teeth. I tried to scream but it was like I couldn't make a sound. I was starting to pass out.
Then I just, woke up.
The sun was just starting to rise. A large bus pulled up and honked. I waved him off, half asleep. What just happened? How did I get here.
Frieda...
I recoiled as the memory returned. I put my head in my hands. This made no sense... I began to scroll through my phone. That was no dream. To my surprise her number was there, but the messages were gone. I began to pat myself down in search of my wallet.
It was gone.
I knew where I was, a few blocks from home. I would walk, it wasn't far. I could hardly comprehend what had happened. I passed the market where Jung would frequent. I could ask him I thought, if he knew about his friend and her 'condition'.
I haven't seen him since.
I slowly dragged myself home, I was only a few buildings away when I heard a voice, rough and old.
"You dropped something" he said spitting through his broken teeth and stained beard.
I glanced scrupulously... it was my wallet. I know with out a doubt I hadn't dropped it.
I felt a lump in my throat, I slowly looked over the man. My eyes drawn to the red lettering on the patch sewn into his jacket and then to his cold eyes.
"FRED"
I felt my self go limp, I almost threw up. Suddenly the man disappeared behind the corner and into the alleyway.
"WAIT!" I yelled my voice coarse and dry. I tried to run after him.
When I turned the corner there was no one.
I got in and sat down, completely defeated at the events that just occurred. I opened my wallet, everything was in it's place, but there, in one of the card slots was a plain white business card sticking out slightly.
I slowly pulled it from the slot, written in blood were just two words.
"BE CAREFUL"
I don't believe in aliens, but whatever that thing was, it's isn't human...
I think they feed off fear.

  3. "Triolet" by Robert Bridges.
Tips for Creative Writing:
Questions for Exploration:
  1. How does the repetition of lines contribute to the triolet's impact?
  2. Can you think of everyday situations or emotions that could be beautifully expressed through a triolet?
Additional Resources:
Creative Writing Prompt:
Step 1: Choose a theme or emotion for your triolet.
Step 2: Craft a captivating refrain that encapsulates the essence of your chosen theme.
Step 3: Develop the narrative or emotion within the remaining lines, incorporating the refrain.

2024.04.27 09:18 Daddy-Thiccasss [English > French] I need help putting some French into a poem I’m writing

I just need help translating the dialogue of the Main character, thanks in advance!
“I can’t believe it’s already here.” “The Spring already has its shoes on.” “Each day is already hard enough with its grief.” “How can I tell you that…” “Hey, are you even listening?” “It’s fine, I wasn’t either.”

2024.04.27 08:18 Cool-Historian-6716 My Supplemental Thoughts on Magnus Archives Season 3

I am back putting my thoughts into the reddit void. I just finished the season. No I have not processed the last 5 episodes I binged listened lol but here is what I have! Good night
OMG so many things of John’s personality make sense now 😭😭😭😭 I want to bubblewrap and hug him
It also explains why he got always almost angry everytime a Leitner book appears. This means probably anyone that works at the archives ends there for a reason. And maybe are pre marked by this patron somehow?
John continues to write the things out of my worst nightmares when it comes to spiders 😂
Yay John recognizing you needed help!
Is this the ex girlfriend? Lol 🤣 maybe they are not exes and I am totally making this shit up
but if everyone thinks he is a killer how can he just be chilling hidding there without before the police will just show up?
Elias is such an asshole 😂 and I know he is bad but for some reason I like him… I mean is a horror podcast, is anyone besides Martin actually good? Elias voice is sexy 😜
How the fuck Elias knows all that stuff about Daisy 🌼 OMG this episode was so so so so good. Elias voice actor is so good! Whatever entity that is on the archives must have something to do with knowledge why else would it beed an archive and library?
Well that explains why the police didn’t come looking for John
At this point I don’t think is a stretch to see Elias quick rise through the institute’s ranks a consequence of he pledging himself to the patron
Reminds of the medical students too. Probably elias sent the statement
Bugs so this pestilence/rot being. But not sure what the whole newspaper stuff is about
Martin must be protected at all costs
I like Melanie she is spunky. Does just accepting the job binds you to the entity?
Jonathan Sims and his identity crisis
The moment the poem I was like this is about Michael! I later noticed the title and it made sense.
Of all the Michael statements so far this is the most haunting
The spiral that distorts everything. So the skydiving, divers etc fits this idea of reality distortion. The guy lost in italy.
This now I called out and now I want people to call to me KEEPS REMINDING ME OF THE DEATH EPISODE! Lol 🤣 for those who know the answer I must sound insane
The shade when he says “the guy is a poet” ☠️
Meat, flesh, also reminds me of that episode in of the blood bags
This one made me go back to childhood and being scared of going to the kitchen in the dark 😭 wanted to cry for a second.
I loved how she called them out for it being a “boy’s club” because it was starting to feel like that lol
This is the first time someone refers to John as a good person and not an asshole
This guy has ADHD
The only other place I have ever heard the term “satnav” is bluey
Is this a meat processing plant?
the obliviousness of the guy is low key hilarious lol
I am on a plane and cannot google “flencing”
What the actual fuck this episode is super creepy
Ohhhh mannequins.
Oh my god Gertrude fought something! I knew she was a badass
Who is Jude? And what is her connection to Agnes? Is this something I missed or just an info drop
Fuck circus music it also stressed me lol
A leitner.
I mean at least John is trying to do something. It must have been a shock to have the archivist knocking on your cult door.
Interesting bits
  1. the names “beholding” and “desolation”
  2. She got awfully angry at John’s questions. And she specifically said “don’t compell me” that is way to specific use of words. If the desolation people can burn people at will… maybe the beholding people are really good at compelling people to spill their guts. And to find information. Just that John doesn’t know how to use his powers yet.
  3. All cults are operating under the assumption John knows what is going on and how he is like Gertrude. But he is like so lost that it must be shocking to them. Gertrude had to start somewhere I mean she probably had a John crisis at some point. But doesn’t that make the beholding look weak?
This is where I am confused. reyna was the leader of the host cult. i think that is the spider one. And John is talking with the lantern people who are desolation. But Agnes was living in the house of Spider dude which are enemies. and the day that agnes died Reyna was there but also the lantern people. WHY WHY
SHE SAID “I SUPPOSED YOU DID COMPELLED ME AFTER ALL” I AM RIGHT I AM RIGHT
Wax… was not expecting that lol
“Feed your God” … so are the statements/stories feeding the beholding?
Without starting the episode, the title made me think this is going to be about meat
Gotta love the casual sexism of the dude lol
I was waiting for a joke about the locker room being bigger on the inside
The first half of the episode is quieter on the background than past episodes. It adds to the eeriness.
This episode has many interesting layers. It is a great example of when the mystery and the horror intersect. On season 1 q&a Johnny talked about keeping the balance of how as the mystery unravels the unknown of horror must remain. This episode is an excellent example of it.
Previously I was putting Michael and falling down stuff together. But is clear they are different things.
So ok the lichtenber figured being fractals made me gasp! And when M Crew threw himself into the void? He pledge to a patron that sort of cancelled Michael’s mark?
I think is probably very simplistic to see entities as cancelling each other as rock paper scissors. So I don’t think that is the literal interpretation of how pledging to the void helped him. But the point is they do fight for power and claim of people or something. And maybe they have one entity they are nemesis with? Or inherently more weak towards?
THE DETECTIVES ARE BACK! Lol 🤣 i mean it was stupid of John to just show up to these people’s doorsteps. It is even more stupid to think they can catch Elias unprepared
Well that beginning was unexpected lol 🤣 “crime in progress well it will start in 15min”
Please tell me the fandom have played FMK with these characters 😂
CONFIRMATION OF JOHN’S COMPELLING POWER
Also Martin must be protected at all costs again
I knwo a lot of the horror here is about what things you relate in your own fears. But the acolytes of these entities or whatever I think that speaks to the things we are more likely to be corrupted by and that is also scary. I think part of the reason I feel so compelled by this story is because as an academic I am at risk of be easily corrupted in my search for knowledge. Of all the entities the show talks about this would be the one I would choose. And that is scary in a different way.
“I am answering you of my free will” is so interesting that Elias deeply cares about it
The thing I keep asking myself while listening to this is that this is a very momentous episode. And is happening very early on the season. Nothing so far by the writers has been done by chance. So if this is happening so early SHIT IS ABOUT TO GO CRAZY
Elias is a smart asshole lol very sexy lol
Oh Martin sweet child so naive thinking the police are good people
Basira is a real one. John’s saying “oh no” I felt it on my soul.
Did Gertrude know that destroying the archives would kill her too?
Tim dead panne’s response on the background are killing me laughing
“You didn’t want this but you absolutely chose this” I to me the chilliest moment in the whole series so far
OMG I WAS FUCKING RIGHT SOME OF THESE ARE NEMESIS OF EACH OTHER. THIS IS A VERY SATISFYING DEVELOPMENT FOR MY MIND LOL
But why can’t Elias stop the stranger? Why must ir be the archivist?
Lmao Georgie asking the questions that needed to be asked. I did find weird that John was promoted to archivist once it was clear he didn’t work under Gertrude. But Georgie calling our him not having a degree in information science and why would he be qualified has me death 😂😂😂😂 peak ego academic of John to not question this beforehand
Also Georgie is being so chill about all this lol
“John are you trying to save the world?” 😂😂😂
Is one of then like death????? OMG we are getting a good story. Though I am pretty sure it means my theory that Michael was death is wrong lol
Welp that is why she was so chill
For all I learned in history class about WWII I had totally forgotten Italy had a king up to the 40s
Martin has a low key crush on John.
I feel like I totally missed when John put together what the anglerfish was.
Brining the recorder to everything is a great way to keep with the show format and connecting it to the lore.
But ok manequins, puppets, circus, and taxidermy is the stranger. But pretty sure the whole meat stuff is different
Fun fact I lived in Pittsburgh PA for five years lol.
I wonder… like something just connected on my brain about the arquitect dudes. They said in an episode those building tended to have more supernatural stuff. Cannot believe it took me so long to understand them as places that have portals? Where these entities can cross to our dimension.
Scary magic psycopath ☠️🤣 he is not wrong though
THE WAY I GASPED WHEN GERTRUDE CALLED HIM MICHAEL! Michael used to be human!
Was Gertrude planning how to kill the buried and the hunt? But like is she trying to destroy the institute because she is pro spiral? Because Michael and the spiral are the same right?
I have a complaint to make about this cliffhanger
Lmao I am 5min in this episode the 100th episode! A milestone. And given the cliffhanger of last episode this feels like John Sims low key trolling the fandom 😂
WHY IS JOHN A BETTER ARCHIVIST? Like because so far Gettrude is an awful person but seems to be doing what the job required?
Is John just better at getting people stories?
In that Elias episode he said something about people were only good enough to discard “at least Gertrude understood that much” that hits way different now
When Michael says “reduced once again to feeding from the unsuspecting and confused” seems very cyclical like you cannot destroy them just send them back to square one
Is interesting how they are influenced by the feelings of the person they turn avatars. Michaels anger was probably part anger at Gertrude
John when vulnerable is a very compelling character
“John this is a promising development” 😂😂 scary magic psycopath indeed. Also is Elias an avatar of the beholding? Because he feels more human than the other avatars. Or is John supposed to become the avatar? But in the analogy Elias did he was the heart. Is John the brain?
Also useful narrative device so they can introduce knowledge to the audience. So far they have been very good at showing not telling. I also understand sometimes you write yourself into a corner and this can help. I am an academic so I write a lot, not like this of course. But I think that is why these meta narrative details are so interesting to me
The statement mentions Gertrude’s French was ok but no great. Did she knew french before? Like did Gertrude ever got to these magic skills John is now developing?
Shivers… meat…
Awwww John cares and Daisy too
Everyone ends up at the institute because of something. Now we know how Tim ended there
This episode is just absolutely heartbreaking.
For all the knowing magic Elias has he has like minus a million emotional IQ 😂 and can’t read the room
Again why John. She said they gave a candidate to Elias but that John was a good choice. WHYYYYYYYY
A “mistake” yeah right
Ok so from the Dedalus crew we are missing Manuela’s side of the story
Love the queer representation on this show. John being implied ace here. Tim bi/pan. And yes Martin has a huge crush on John. I am officially team John and Martin are endgame. Not sure how much endgame we can expect on a horror show
Fuck you Elias
So far the entities the lead each of them to the Institute
John - Spider Tim - Stranger Melanie - Disease
New piece of lore unlocked. Need to feed the patron statements to stay alive
John can feel now whether a person is not a person no more. Which I am guessing is part of the getting powers thing
Lmao how did Julia and the vampire hunter ended up teaming up?
The whole Lucas family stuff has me confused
“Your advice would be less murder” ☠️☠️
The Elias you know is not a murdering psycho?
Well so this was interesting… i hope we get an explanation of the role of the recorder and the entity.
Martin sounds less afraid than in Season 1 maybe is just because they all change their tone when reading statements Also shivers spiders
Gerard Key is funny lol 😂 “the van helsings” ☠️
Gertrude binding Gerard to the book is so cruel because she probably knew everything his mom put him through
So Gertrude turned Gerard into a book and somehow the book ended on the hands of the hunters. But like why would she lose the book? Also ok we are getting close to the season end so something big is coming.
“They are our fears”
This one was an unexpectedly philosophical episode. A lot of things I had on my head sort of got confirmed though. Why sometimes I couldn’t decide which fear we were talking about. And yes why some felt very episode.
Robert Smirk and Leitner the cause of all of Johns problems
“Corruption” yep fitting name Oh wow the Flesh that one is haunting “All the terror needs to go somewhere”
Lmao John trying not to have a complete collapse after the info dump
“Gerry” 😭😭😭😭😭😭 just the idea of a selfish mom treating their kid like this just breaks my heart.
I would not be surprised if Elias is trying to do the ritual for the beholding.
Wait… wait my brain is going in overdrive Michael said that the spiral ritual needed this place to be built. And the circus is this big dance. Gerry also said it takes 100s of years…
HOLY SHIT JONAH MAGNUS STARTED THE INSTITUTE AS PART OF THE RITUAL. The best institute is the thing that is being built for the ritual… it HAS TO BE. The reading of the statements, the collection of artifacts everything to build a place for the beholding. HOLY SHIT
I have a couple of threads I still cannot make sense of though….
  1. the avatar is key to this and they live hundreds of years. That would make Jonah Magnus an avatar?
  2. What is not clear is if killing the avatar is part of disrupting the ritual. Like if the beholding ritual is in place and Jonah started it and the avatar needs to start and finish it doesn’t it mean Magnus is alive somewhere? Or maybe that is not necessary
  3. Elias has to be the avatar… but when did Elias replaced Magnus?
What the actual fuck… that’s it, that’s my note
The recorder feeds the beholding and because of that Elias can know what happens?
Also interesting bit on the episode about this guy having a theory that a new entity was created? Or maybe was dormant and started gaining force
When you hear “House in Hilltop Roll” you know is going to be a cray episode
“They did get an archivist’s skin afterall” shivers
Well is not the heart to heart Tim and John needed lol but close enough
Of course antique guy worked with Leitner lol
This was heavy…
Also so “nice” of Elias for booking the bed and breakfast
John wanting Martin to stay is proof 18373819 that he cares for him
“Make sure you keep receipts for expenses” ☠️😂
This episode was absolutely perfect
Is Martin burning statements? OMG 😦 I don’t know if this is brilliant or super stupid
They are not waxworks?
This place is “bigger than we thought” here I was waiting for the joke about how “it is bigger on the inside”
HOLY SHIT ANGLER FISH HAS COME FULL CIRCLE IN THE CREEPIEST FUCKING WAY
Martin 😭😭😭
Thus cliffhanger should be illegal
OMG the music change for the intro in this episode
Nice touch to bring the original voice actor for Sasha
Bazira being the only person close to sanity
I was wondering how they would make the tape recorder work lore wise with the episode
This episode was scary and creepy and tense and had me at the edge of my seat
The stranger asking if they truly think things will be better under the watcher confirms that ritual is still ongoing. And my guess again is that is why Gertrude wanted to destroy the archives
“I don’t forgive you but thank you” damn
“I am for you”
The dreams are like a weird mix of past statements isn’t? Or dreams of people connected to the other entitites? Like he is actually watching them… his dreams are turning him into a watcher
“He is still the beating heart” lol 🤣 this Lucas dude talking about this in such a chill way.
I have a feeling everyone is going to miss Elias very soon.
I am so glad I don’t need to wait to start the new season

2024.04.26 05:36 Big_Ad8118 The characters that were mentioned in Click's Monthly Collection

Here’s my guess about the characters in Click’s 2nd Bond story - “Monthly Collection”:
1.“Sprint Race between Ms. Check and the Carbuncle”
=> Bkornblume (and the Carbuncle is just a normal carbuncle).
  1. “Boy with Umbrella Still at Work”
=> Oliver Fog.
  1. “The Wolf & The Girl in Red Cloak”
=> Pavia and Mondlicht.
  1. “Ms. EM Current's Wanted Poster: X”
=> Mesmer Jr.
(I’m curious what X has done that Mesmer Jr. had to hang a wanted poster :v)
  1. “Trialogue between The Spherical Satellite, The UFO & Cow, and Ms. Zinnia”
=> Sputnik, AliEn T, Ms. Radio.
  1. “Ms. Orb Reciting A New Poem”
=> Matilda.
Edit: About "Ms. Check", I just reread his introduction stories and there's a line said "Race of Ms. Checker Pattern and Carbuncle". It may be the another version of "Sprint Race between Ms. Check and the Carbuncle” in his 2nd Bond Story. So I guess "Ms. Check" = "Ms. Checker Pattern" => Sonetto, as she the only one who wears checker-patterned ( diamond band) in the suitcase in 1.0.

Discovering Delicacy in the Quinzaine Form**
Summary:
A quinzaine is a poetic form with roots in French literature. It comprises exactly fifteen syllables, distributed across three lines. This concise structure encourages poets to convey meaning with precision and brevity, capturing moments of beauty or insight.
Examples:
  1. "Spring Day" by Paul Verlaine (translated).
  2. "Night" by Louise Glück.
  3. "Quinzaine" by Raymond Queneau (translated).
Tips for Creative Writing:
Questions for Exploration:
  1. How does the brevity of the quinzaine impact the reader's engagement?
  2. Can you identify contemporary poets who have embraced the quinzaine in their work?
Additional Resources:
Creative Writing Prompt:
Step 1: Choose a moment, emotion, or image to capture in your quinzaine.
Step 2: Compose three lines, ensuring they contain exactly fifteen syllables.
Step 3: Experiment with different line breaks to enhance the poem's rhythm and meaning.
Example:
Cherry blossoms bloom, a delicate array (5) Soft petals whisper, a fleeting ballet (5) Spring's sweet quinzaine, in nature's display (5)
Remember: The quinzaine's succinct nature challenges poets to distill profound moments into a compact form.

2024.04.25 01:29 gustavballer666 [HELP] - Poems about work, labor, socialism

Hi — I’m a pianist and composer looking to set some poems about work, labor, and socialism to music, in the tradition of the German Lied and the French mélodie. I’m especially fond of Xu Linshi’s work, as well as the early Soviets such as Osip Mandelstam and Anna Akhmatova.
Thanks!

2024.04.24 13:07 breadfart78 Did he really make mistakes when writing in French?

According to some guy on quora
“Napoleon's native language was Corsican and, at school, he learnt Italian. Later, when he was campaigning in Italy, he could speak to crowds which were enthusiastic about having a "foreign" general who was so fluent in their language. At the beginning - Corsica had just been annexed by France - he spoke only a very bad French, so bad that when he went to study at military academies, his comrades made a lot of fun of him. He pronounced his own name in such a way that they called him "la paille au nez" = "straw in the nose". However - I disagree with some answers here - Napoleon was a hard worker and I think he soon managed to overcome his poor command of French and learnt it so well that, some years later, he was fully proficient and could write excellent articles about science and love poems. (about accent : remember that, at this time, there was no radio and France was very rural : a slight accent would get unnoticed). Just a few words remained wrongly memorized in his mind : he often said "enfanterie" ("childrenry") instead of "infanterie" (infantry) and things like that. For the rest, I'm not so sure : I think he was taught some Latin and some German at the academy, but that didn't go very far. I think I remember he learnt some English at Saint Helena, just enough to decipher paper articles, but, given the written closeness between English and French, that doesn't mean he was able to speak it.”
Is there anything this guy missed? I bet he said “Pardon my French” a lot even if he didn’t swear.

The history of tarot is a fascinating journey that spans centuries and traverses various cultures. The origins of tarot cards can be traced back to 15th-century Italy, where they emerged as playing cards. The initial purpose of these decks was purely recreational, serving as a game known as "tarocchi" or "triumphi."
  1. Early Playing Cards (15th Century):
    • Origin: Tarot cards likely originated in northern Italy in the early 15th century. The oldest surviving complete deck is the "Visconti-Sforza" deck, dating back to the 1440s.
    • Function: Originally used for games, tarot decks were adorned with symbolic imagery, including allegorical illustrations and trump cards.
  2. Tarot in France (Late 15th Century):
    • Migration: Tarot cards crossed into France in the late 15th century, and the game evolved with the addition of the 22 trump cards, known as the Major Arcana.
    • Symbolism: The Major Arcana introduced iconic characters and archetypal symbols, enhancing the cards' allegorical significance.
  3. Occult Associations (18th Century):
    • Esoteric Interest: In the 18th century, interest in the occult and mystical arts surged in Europe. Tarot cards gained esoteric significance, with scholars attributing hidden meanings to the cards beyond their gaming purpose.
    • Etteilla: The French occultist Etteilla published influential tarot interpretations, contributing to the transformation of tarot into a tool for divination and self-discovery.
  4. The Rider-Waite-Smith Deck (Early 20th Century):
    • Revolutionary Design: In 1909, A.E. Waite and Pamela Colman Smith collaborated on the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, featuring vivid illustrations and intricate symbolism. This deck became immensely popular and served as the foundation for many modern tarot decks.
    • Divinatory Focus: The Rider-Waite-Smith deck emphasized the mystical and divinatory aspects of tarot, influencing the widespread adoption of tarot for spiritual and introspective purposes.
  5. Tarot in the New Age Movement (20th Century Onward):

2024.04.23 22:45 Arachulia Audi, Vide, Tace si vis vivere (in pace)

Edited to make the complete post
I was researching about the motto Audi, Vide, Tace that is on the Freemasons’ Hall in London for a post I wanted to make tomorrow and I’ve made an incredible realization. First, you should know that the motto in full is “Audi, Vide, Tace, Si Vis Vivere In Pace” – meaning hear, see and keep silent if you want to live in peace. There is an alternative version of this that instead of audi it has aude that means dare. So in that form it means dare, see and keep silent if you want to live in peace.
The motto could be linked directly to Strike’s love confession. The variation could refer to Strike who dared to break his silence and confess his love and the form on the Freemasons’ Hall could refer to Robin who just listened.
Strike: Dare, see and keep silent if you want to live in peace
Robin: Hear, see and keep silent if you want to live in peace
The motto is also linked to the alchemical operation of sublimation (I have already predicted this for THM and u/katyaslonenko has also predicted its zodiac sign Libra for THM). This operation is linked to the myth of Prometheus, the titan god (who sometimes is identified with Hephaistos) who gave fire to humans (he revealed to humans something that was a secret between gods) and was unjustly punished because of it.
And the worst is that there is also a variation of the motto where the words “in peace” are omitted and it becomes:
Dare, see and keep silent if you want to live or
hear, see and keep silent if you want to live.
I wanted to share this with you guys. If you still want, I can make the full post about it tomorrow. Goodnight!
HERE BEGINS THE EDIT
The motto is derived from a line of “leonine” verse, which is a kind of Latin verse much used in the Middle Ages, consisting of hexameters, or alternate hexameters and pentameters, in which the last word rhymes with that preceding the caesura. The term is applied to English verse of which the middle and last syllables rhyme. The invention of such conscious rhymes is traditionally attributed to a probably apocryphal monk Leonius, who is supposed to be the author of a history of the Old Testament. Shakespeare used the leonine verse to denote absurd characters. A very famous poem written in leonine verse is "The Raven" by Edgar Alan Poe.
According to the Masonic author George H. T. French: "The first two words, audi, vide, refer to the alertness conducive to the acquisition of knowledge. For it is through these two senses, hearing and seeing, that we absorb most of our information. Tace, or be silent, refers to the dissemination of information, and alerts one to the desirability of thinking before speaking, of deciding what should be kept hidden, of ever bearing in remembrance those truly Masonic virtues, silence and circumspection.”
There are various reasons for being silent if one has started to penetrate the hidden mysteries of nature and science:
– avoiding attack by those offended by their own ignorance – preventing the unworthy from using the technical knowledge for improper ends – avoiding skeptical mental influences disturbing the unfoldment of the knowing – keeping faith with inner plane influences.
“Tace” as a verb means “to be silent”. As a noun tace means “candle”. A candle is silent and emits light. Thus the wisdom of silence in the pursuit and protection of Masonic light. This supposes sealed lips. There are secrets held by Masonry which the individual Mason can only seize if he is willing and able to work for them. This demands effort, toil and tenacity. May we be granted the grace and the steadfastness of purpose to discharge fully both tasks. Sometimes silence is more important than noise. Some things can't be described but have to be experienced.
The motto is the same as the motto of the Czech secret service.
In the States "Vide, Aude, Tace" (dare instead of silent) is seen.

2024.04.23 01:01 Techthusias Various Reviews: Noma/Can Roca/Mugaritz/Quique Dacosta/Osteria Francescana/Sukiyabashi Jiro/Fat Duck/Etxebarri & more

Hey everyone! It’s been about 11 years since I took an interest in fine dining and have been lucky enough to visit many acclaimed restaurants in those years, so I thought I would share my thoughts on some of them here. There are many, so I will group them by region.
Europe:
Noma, Copenhagen, Denmark: I went before they moved to their new, more spacious location and it was every bit as amazing as you’ve heard. When you arrive the entire staff gets together to welcome you and chef Redzepi himself is a very sweet guy who spent a long time talking to me and my family. This ranks as one of my top experiences not only due to the amazing food, but also chef Redzepi’s hospitality. He personally gave me a tour of the restaurant and upstairs kitchen area, and he’s one of the nicest chefs I’ve come across. The kitchen at noma continúes to be probably the most influential in the world and was sad to see it closing soon but at the same time excited to see what comes next as noma has inspired a worldwide phenomenon based on cooking with local ingredients.
El Celler de Can Roca, Girona, Spain: Incredible from beginning to end, this one was of the more challenging reservations to get, but it was worth it. The three Roca brothers were there and I should give a special mention to the desserts which are prepared by the incredibly talented Jordi Roca. My favorite dish was a dessert that looked like a peach but was actually a coat of sugar blown as if it were glass and carefully painted to look like a real peach and filled with peach mousse. Amazing!
Mugaritz, San Sebastián, Spain: Also a very influential restaurant, the food here is unlike any other restaurant out there. The food is meat to challenge you and evoke emotions, so it is not for everyone. Particularly memorable was the beginning: an envelope filled with paper that looked like normal paper with a poem on it. But we were then instructed to eat the paper (!) and it tasted like olives. This is the essence of Mugaritz, constantly challenging you about what food is. We started in the dining room and were given a tour of the kitchen and ended with desserts in the outdoor garden. This is in my opinion a must-go if you are in the Basque region.
Asador Extebarri, Axpe, Spain: Every dish here has gone through the flames of grill expert Bittor Arguinzoniz. My favorite dish was the main meat course, which came from cows from the Basque Region and was incredibly tender. Also memorable was a dessert made with smoked cow’s milk where you could really taste the smokiness. This is ingredient-driven cuisine at it’s best.
Arzak, San Sebastián- My most memorable dish here is one where they poured red liquid in another dish and it produced this incredible pattern that is hard to describe but they called it “fractal”. Juan Mari Arzak and Elena Arzak were incredibly hospitable.
The Fat Duck, Bray, UK- Great meal, most memorable being the “Sound of the Sea” dish and the desserts, one of which looked liked a very thin playing card but was actually white chocolate filled with berry sauce. The restaurant kitchen itself is quite small which is impressive given the complexity of the dishes here, as kitchens at these types of restaurants are usually very large.
Quique Dacosta Restaurante, Denia, Spain: This is the best meal I’ve ever had. The meal spanned 48 courses and lasted 5 hours and it was magical from beginning to end. I don’t know why it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, as it is truly a special place and very innovative. Particularly memorable was a dish called “Helado Caliente” (Hot Ice Cream) which was exactly what it was. It had the flavor and mouthfeel of ice cream but it was hot. To this day I have no idea how they made this dish and are surprised other chefs haven’t copied it. Quique Dacosta Restaurante is a must go!
Osteria Francescana, Modena, Italy- Getting the reservation was incredibly difficult and I got it in a stroke of pure luck. I chose the more experimental menu (not the one with all the classic dishes we’ve all seen before) The meal was also incredible, and the most memorable dishes were the Montblanc and a dish that looked like transparent ravioli resting in a pond of green sauce.
Le Calandre, Padua, Italy- Chef Alajmo is the youngest chef to ever earn three Michelin stars. The dining room here is the most impressive/craziest I’ve seen, with an all dark interior with light illuminating only the tables. The Squid Cappuccino and the famous Saffron Risotto were very impressive.
Japan:
Sukiyabashi Jiro, Tokyo: This is one of the most difficult reservations to date, you have to stay at one of the top Tokyo hotels and have their concierge call to make reservation well in advance. The meal itself lasted about 50 minutes and was a very serious affair, which I knew in advance. Someone on this subreddit recently posted about it and I was surprised to find that the price is now 55,000 yen. When I went it was 35,000, so it has gone up quite a bit. Given that, I wouldn’t return, as there are so many great restaurants in Tokyo.
Nanachome Kyoboshi, Tokyo: Famous for being the only tempura restaurant ever to earn 3 Michelin Stars, the chef has since requested to not be listed on the guide. I was skeptical going in given the high price, but I think it was worth it and would go back in a heartbeat. The quality of ingredients was something I have never experienced, and I have eaten at lot of top restaurants. You always hear the produce in Japan is superior, and I ate at highly regarded restaurants in Japan, but the quality of ingredients was beyond incredible here and even the musk mellon dessert was much juicier than the one I had at Sukiyabashi Jiro the night before. The meal lasted about 3 hours and the chef speaks good English. Everything from the squid to the chestnut were the best tasting iterations of that ingredient I’ve ever come across. If you are serious about tempura and about quality ingredients then this is the place to go, just know that it is pricey.
Ishikawa, Tokyo- My meal here was okay, but nothing incredible, I had a much better meal at the now-closed, introduction-only KyoAji.
KyoAji, Tokyo- The chef at KyoAji was rumored to have declined 3 Michelin Stars and the restaurant was legendary among Tokyo foodies. The meal here was very impressive, especially the kuzukiri at the end.
United States:
Eleven Madison Park, NYC- My first meal here was great but the second one was terrible, it now seems like the restaurant’s best days are behind it.
Per Se, NYC- Great food, though I think the zeitgeist has moved on these days and I no longer find French food as exciting.
Le Bernardin, NYC- Great seafood, especially the tuna carpaccio.
WD~50, NYC- The most creative meal I’ve had to date in NYC, it is sad it has since closed.
Saison, San Francisco- The meal here was good, and I went when Joshua Skenes was still head chef. But I think it is way too pricy for what you get.
Latin America
Pujol, Mexico City, Mexico- The are two choices when eating here, the regular dining room and the Taco Omakase. I went with the Taco Omakase. It was very creative, unique and delicious.
Central, Lima, Peru- I must say I wasn’t too impressed by my meal at Central.
Leo, Bogotá, Colombia- I have visited this restaurant quite a few times and have experienced its evolution. The current iteration is the best. The main restaurant, “La Sala de Leo” is very experimental and has many exotic ingredients from the Amazon, the Pacific Coast, etc., which I enjoy, but some people may not. There is an upstairs bar area called “La Sala de Laura” where there is a completely different tasting menu centered on cocktails, which are the best I have tried anywhere. Chef Leo Espinosa and her daughter Laura are incredibly talented and do a good job putting Colombia’s incredible diversity on the plate.
Overall my top 3 experiences are:

  1. Quique Dacosta Restaurante
  2. El Celler de Can Roca
  3. Noma
I originally posted this on this sub over a year ago but it somehow got deleted.
Thank you for reading!

2024.04.23 00:51 WHYFM A cool detail from the french translation

I was reading both the original version and the French translation (there's so many codes that got lost, it's frustrating) and I arrived on page 564, the poem La Feuille.
In the English version the poem is in French: there's an epigraphy from a French poet so that makes some kind of sense.
But obviously it would not in french in the french translation, that would be too easy! I was expecting german or even latin but instead the poem is in what I first thought was Thai? I dug a little and guys.
It's Vietnamese.
This Zampano, who is strongly implied to have fought in the Vietnam war, learned enough Vietnamese to write, or at least translate a poem.
We might not have all the hidden messages but that translation still hits hard.

2024.04.22 23:05 makiden9 De vulgari Eloquentia: Italian are Latins and Italian is Modern Latin (Developed one)

VIII (English) 6. All the rest of Europe that was not dominated by these two vernaculars was held by a third, although nowadays this itself seems to be divided in three: for some now say oc, some oïl, and some , when they answer in the affirmative; and these are the Hispanic, the French, and the ITALIANS. Yet the sign that the vernaculars of these three peoples derive from one and the same language is plainly apparent: for they can be seen to use the same words to signify many things, such as 'God', 'heaven', 'love', 'sea,' 'earth', 'is', 'lives', 'dies', 'loves', and almost all others.
---------------------------------------------------------
X (English) 1. Our language now exists in a tripartite form, as I said above; yet, when it comes to assessing its constituent parts on the basis of the three types of sound that they have developed, I find myself timidly hesitating to place any of them in the scale, and not daring to prefer any one to any other for the purposes of comparison, unless it be because those who devised the rules of gramatica are known to have chosen the word sic as an adverb of affirmation: and this fact would seem to confer a certain preeminence on the Italians, who say . 2 . Indeed each of the three parts could call significant evidence in its own favour. Thus the language of oïl adduces on its own behalf the fact that, because of the greater facility and pleasing quality of its vernacular style, everything that is recounted or invented in vernacular prose belongs to it: such as compilations from the Bible and the histories of Troy and Rome, and the beautiful tales of King Arthur, and many other works of history and doctrine. The second part, the language of oc, argues in its own favour that eloquent writers in the vernacular first composed poems in this sweeter and more perfect language: they include Peire d'Alvernha and other ancient masters. Finally, the third part, which belongs to the Italians, declares itself to be superior because it enjoys a twofold privilege: first, because those who have written vernacular poetry more sweetly and subtly, such as Cino da Pistoia and his friend, have been its intimates and faithful servants; and second, because they seem to be in the closest contact with the gramatica which is shared by all - and this, to those who consider the matter rationally, will appear a very weighty argument. 3. I will refrain, however, from passing judgement on this question, and, bringing the discussion back to the Italian vernacular, will try to describe the various forms it has developed, and to compare them one with another.
X (Latin) 1.
