The second card in my stash of outstanding thank yous is filled with wonderful factoids about Olympic National Park, none of which I knew previously. Ok, this is really pathetic how far behind I am. I tend to avoid costume parties and now that I'm an adult I really don't need tons of candy. It is fun seeing the neighborhood kiddos while they're out Trick or Treating.

Hi my (30f) girlfriend broke up with me (28m) Because how she told me she is working on her self ( she started going to art classes, wanting to study for art school), and i dont work on my self. Now a bit about me is that I'm an introvert but I do like to go out for time to time. I have a stable job and I'm working to get promoted soon. She doesn't have a stable job and goes from job to job. Any way for 2 years I started to close off my self because I started to feel depressed because my ex would always find something to complain about either it's me or something that is happening in the world. And I would feel drained because of it. I would ask her to change the topics or that we don't talk about them. So she started to not talk to me about things. Now there were some other issues that we had. When we started dating she was sexting this guy and I asked her to stop so she did. Then she meet some guys online and she sent them adult pictures of her self. And only reason why I found out was because she didn't delete them from her phone. I have forgave her but couldn't trust her any more. And any time I would ask that we work on it together she would tell me that it's not her fault that I would feel that way. So after 7 years she broke up with me. Now she doesn't want me as a friend more of an acquaintance but she wants me to let her see the dogs that she has brought to my place. And if I tell her that I don't want her to come over to see them as I feel like she is using me for her gain. She would tell me that I'm petty and that she was right about me all along. She loves those dogs and would do anything for them. Now would I be an assholed if I told her that I don't want her to come over to see the dogs because she has made her choice.

I went to art school in my mid 20s and for various reasons, don’t really have any art friends. my close friends incidentally work at public galleries and whatnot. However I don’t know any practicing artists outside of my old tutors. Atm I’m working on improving my drawing, painting and printmaking and starting to prepare a body of work/project.
I am not sure whether i should start going to gallery openings or applying for shows at this early stage. I’m spending all my “putting myself out there” energy on going to jazz gigs for some reason. It’s super fun and I want to make album covers for them and would if they asked. Is networking at gallery openings really something people do? I am too nervous to start: I really want to start putting myself and my art out there on some level but with no “structure” such as group shows and art friends I feel like I’m drawing into the void a bit. I’ve been doing things through the local printmaking studio which has been great but I want to meet my peers but I’m too nervous! I guess tips on networking and applying for solo shows at artist run spaces in early career would be helpful.

Hi, hiii!
So, I'm making a "animated" visual novel in UE5 as a school project!! But I'm having trouble playing gifs or videos with transparent background in UE5 UI widgets. I use common UI
Things I've tried:

1. Using mp4s which do not support transparent bgs,

but it's the only video format really working in UE5 I've tried using a chroma key in the material and it only worked so-so, its pretty ugly and really not a great solution.

1. Using Paper2D

It's a plugin, which allows to make transparent flipbooks out of spritesheets!! So, I cut the gifs into spritesheets and in theory it's working well But now, how do I get that to be shown in my UI? It doesn't work, just throwing it in as an image, as far as i know My entire game is UI based and with my programming, there's no way to show something from in the scene.
Another possible Idea that i have (i don't know that much about unreal yet) is somehow make an animated material from the spritesheet or flipbook? And use that as a brush? Would that be possible and if yes, how would I animate that??
I already have a material set but I only know how to use a single texture in it And the material is where i set the chroma key for playing the videos but i already explained that that's not a good solution :( Any ideas, recommendations, maybe?

Hi guys! I, 17(M), am from Orangeburg, South Carolina, and I'm in my sophomore year of high school. My dad always told me that it's never too early to think of what I'm going to do after graduation, and I already know that I want to be an electrician. My parents renovated our vacation home, but the electrician they hired didn't do the electrical wiring properly, and the house burned down. The legal battle is still ongoing, but even if we win, I don't want my family to go through something like this ever again. That's why I decided to become an electrician - I want to make sure nothing similar happens to other people. I was hoping that you could answer some of my questions about trade schools.

1. What is the day-to-day life like as an electrician?
   
2. How hard is the electrician curriculum compared to the one of other trades?
   
3. Is it normal for an electrician program to be completed in about a year?
   
4. Would it be better to get an Associate degree?
   
5. Should I get an apprenticeship immediately, or should I focus on a theory first?

Hi guys! I, 16(M), am in my sophomore year of high school, and I was already thinking about what I'm going to do after I graduate. I really don't want to pay over 50k for a university degree, so I decided to look into trades. I was hoping that you could answer a couple of my questions about HVAC. I know that questions are reserved for hvacadvice, but I really wanted to hear the opinions of professionals.
I think some background info is due. I always liked to work with my hands, and I'd hate sitting idly on my ass in a factory or an office all the time. I'd like to go around the city for work. Plus, I've heard that the girls really like guys in trades, so that's definitely a bonus. Not having to rely on someone else to fix my house is also pretty neat. I talked to my career counselor about this, and she recommended a career in HVAC. I really liked the idea. There is plenty of work to go around and the work is diverse enough not to be monotonous.
Now, I'm looking for a trade school. The one I found looks pretty promising. It says that it covers everything from installing and repairing HVAC systems to getting certified to work with refrigerants, but I still have a couple of questions. (Sorry if the questions sound stupid)

1. What's the difference between a certificate program and an associate's/bachelor's degree program?
   
2. Is it better to get an internship or an apprenticeship?
   
3. Where do I even get them? Do I look for them myself or does the program provide a list that I get to choose from?
   
4. Do you have any tips that would make the experience better for me?
   
5. The university says that it would be a good idea to get an additional certification. They offer Ready-to-Work Certificate, HVAC Support Technician Certification, Core & Specialty Tests Certificate, and Senior Level Efficiency Analyst Certification. Do you know if they are any good?
   
6. I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; what should be my salary expectations once I graduate If I choose to stay here?

Hey! I'm an Animation/Illustration and Linguistics student about to finish my 1st year at SJSU. Unfortunately it's way past college season, so this is more so directed at future applicants this coming fall.
I feel the dire need to share this underrated program because I know so many people wave this place away for being a state school. I am biased, but even with long thought put in, I genuinely think SJSU may be the best value animation/visdev program you could find anywhere in the US. Realistically there are way more successful faculty and perhaps a better education somewhere else like CalArts, but that marginal difference is at the price of $230k+. What you get at SJSU is scarily good; you might even start feeling bad for how little the faculty are being paid (the CSU-wide strike cough cough).
I used to only care about prestige--I thought I could only be satisfied with attending the cream of the crop; I fucking hated the thought of coming here. Little did I know, one semester in this program would be the most I've learned about art and work ethics in a lifetime.
SJSU A/I is one of the friendliest, most hardworking places you can be as an artist. We all share the same values and passion for art. Everyone in the program treats each other like family, including the professors! Side note: I've always heard that professors at CSUs usually love teaching and are passionate, and it's true. Why else would you teach at a place where you earn pennies lol. Even my linguistics and philosophy professors have been equally as lovely!
Despite that, this is one of the most rigorous programs around, and quite a few students end up dropping out during the "weeder year"/1st year (personally my friends and I gauge the dropout rate is ~20%-25%). A few more are then kicked out during the portfolio review in 2nd year. To me, ArtCenter trumps every school in terms of hardships and acceleration (RIP Advanced Perspective class lol), and I would put SJSU a step below that. We are largely about work ethics and learning to manage time here! IMO it's a necessary stressor to prepare you for the industry. You will break and realize you don't have enough passion for an animation career, or you will get up stronger with levels of discipline that will impress the industry.
I cannot say for the advanced classes how well they prepare students for work, but I can say that the foundational classes are invaluable. In particular, one class has seriously changed the course of my life: ANI 13 taught by John Clapp. ANI 13 is a life class disguised as an art class, and it refines you as a person. It teaches you to take life slow in the modern age of permanent adrenaline rushes. It presents to you interesting facets of the world that somehow always ties back to valuable art advice. I left every lecture with my mind blown! The class also assigns you a sketchbook to work on for the entire semester, during which you practice how to observe and think like an artist.

That's pretty much how I'd summarize this program so far. Please, PLEASE consider it for your own sake if you want an affordable and quality education! Here's a pros and cons list to finish up:
PROS:

• Much more affordable
• Large network of working professionals and industry giants
• Talks from alumni and major studios (CN, Nickelodeon, Blizzard, Duolingo... the list goes on)
• Friendly, likeminded, and passionate peers and faculty--you have a support system here!
• Loving upperclassmen and TAs
• Foundational classes that will teach you how to observe and use the fundamentals of art/principles of design
• Underclassmen can alreaedy contribte to BFA projects!
• It's not an art school, so you can befriend people from so many other majors! You could also take an elective class for fun or pursue a minor if you can manage it
• San Jose is close to SF. Good ass view and beautiful museums!
• Insane rigor that prepares you for the industry

CONS:

• Rigor... *Dies*...
  • Ridiculous dropout rates during the "weeder year"/1st year. Are you ready?
• A high GPA is required to get in, but a strong portfolio can negate some points lost
• Faculty aren't close to as strong as ones in prestigious art schools (despite that, we do have who professors have worked in AAA or feature)
• Classes do not accelerate as quickly as art schools because we start at ground zero
• As a consequence, the program is a 5-year curriculum (a 4-year track exists but is largely undoable)
• Dorming IS EXPENSIVE!! Share an apartment if you can and are okay with the FOMO lol
• Not located in LA where most studios are

And if you want the same/sister program but with much less rigor, consider CSULB!! I've spoken to Aubrey Mintz, a professor, and a graduate of the program before, and it seems like they're quite laidback over there (albeit at the cost of underpreparing you if you aren't self-driven).
Anddd, don't fucking go to Academy of Art University. It's the only FOR-PROFIT school I've seen before, and the president is a near-billionaire devil selling art degrees like a scam.

Supervisor just does not care about personal life. Will call 12 am at night just to scold me that I am not doing any work or there are many things to do or I am working slowly. He wants me to submit my thesis early but he is giving too much pressure. I don't have any social life because of this. And he is like that from the 1st year, now I am in my third year. Everyday (no matter weekday or weekends) he will call me any time or ask me to come to his office for 'discussion'. I can not even go out with my friends at weekends because he will call and will scold for not working. In the name of discussion what he does is to say the same thing (I am working slowly), does not let me say anything, or whatever I say is wrong. Again after some day he will say the same thing I was saying and this time again it's my fault that I could not convey my thoughts. Don't want to listen anything. Every conversation I have with him he will make it to an argument and will try to dominate.
And this is not with me only. Before me there was another student. He has left the group because of this. He had same problems with his earlier students also(which I came to know recently). He even argue with other faculty or professors from other institution. According to him he is the only few faculties who is actually working here others are doing nothing. He holds a position of power in this institute, so he does not face any consequences.
But the thing is he really works, till midnight and everytime I ask him to write a recommendation letter for a conference he writes that, or if I sent him any paper draft he works on it. But this constant micromaneging is too much. The last student tried to discuss this thing with him but he is proud of this micromaneging. He scolded that student so much that he started crying. And this crying thing the supervisor told me with a smile in his face that the other student was weak, and he will not change this behaviour. I just don't know what to do.

I am looking for advice… I am applying to go to university for the first time, I am 31 and graduated from high school around 11 years ago.
I can’t for the life of me remember what my OP was but it was maybe a 15. I think I got a cert 3 when I did the NEIS program, but I was never given this document (from memory).
I am getting a statement of service from my work and my accountant (I run a small business) to show my competency. But this is all so confusing.
I really want to study Arts History and I am so worried I won’t get in now.
I plan on calling the uni tomorrow, QTAC, and whom ever else.
Any advice please?

background - I want to major in bio, love literature. Read a lot of books and in my essay for an impactful experience I had written about reading a book. So the first question was about why ashoka. I said because it's one of the best liberal arts colleges and I spoke about how much I loved the foundational courses ashoka offers. He asked how. Then I went on to say about how they help us become a well-rounded intellectual and not just an expert in the subject we're majoring in. I think instead of economy, politics and society (which is one of the foundational courses) I said economics and he asked me to look at it again on the website but I was adamant and said that I know what I'm talking about. (I hate myself, why did I do that 😭) Then he said everything on my application is related to literature, so why I chose bio. I said because bio is what I enjoy stressing over and reading and writing is just a hobby blah blah. Next he wanted me to talk about any topic under biology. I WENT ON TO TALK ABOUT SOME RESEARCH WHERE IT WAS FOUND HOW NO BLIND PERSON HAS SCHIZOPHRENIA!!! I COULD JUST HAVE SPOKEN ABOUT EVOLUTION. He then asked if that was a biological phenomena, I said yes. He asked me what causes schizophrenia, I blanked out and started stating effects of it instead. In the end I said sensory deterioration, I knew it was trauma of some kind but I FORGOT😭 He was not happy w any of my answers. Then he asked how my friends would describe me. Followed by asking me to talk about my fav book. He also asked me why the book that I recommended is special and picked out tiny details from whatever i'd written about the books and asked me questions about it. That's it. I hated every second of it. I'm sure I'm not going to get in.

So my girlfriend and I (both 18) have been together for a bit over a year. This December we had a kind of big argument that mentally exhausted both of us and during the week of the argument she, her mother, her mother's friend from work and her son (around 23) went out to a theater.
After they hung out she told me the next day that she liked very much the conversations she had with that guy (the son of the mother's friend) and how they talked about music bands they like in common and she even spent some hours listening to what the guy had recommended to her after they hung out.(Meanwhile my girlfriend and I have 99% common taste on Spotify) Also my girlfriend and I give some hard exams in order to get to uni this year and we both want to study medicine but at that time she would always tell me how unsure of her choice she was and that she was considered other career paths. But after that hungout the first text I get was that she was 100% sure about wanting to study medicine (Meanwhile that guy is in med school). I asked her how the theater was and she said that it wasn't very good and she wasn't paying much attention and she was talking with that guy. So after all these things I heard about him I asked her kinda jokingly "So is he more handsome than me? Haha" and she replied that it's just that he has a different style and she would never clearly give an answer to who she found more attractive.(Meanwhile all the guys she has expressed a liking in have that same style as he). All these happened during the week of the argument
So a day or two passes from that hungout and I see her more distant and I got kinda worried because I thought it was from the argument. I then opened up about my feelings like I have never before Infront of her but she kept being distant. Anyway that night she told me that her mother's friend told her mother that this guy thinks my girlfriend is very pretty and intelligent and that he would like to meet again. And what hurts me till this day is what she confessed to me which is that while we had arguments she would be thinking of him because I made her feel sad and she thought she deserved something better.
All this took about a month to get over but I chugged it all up because I accepted that it was my fault for the argument (which to be honest at the most part was) but would never get over the idea that she thought of another guy when we had difficult times. I still think of that incident every other day. When I mention it to her se gets mad and says that "we have talked about this" and she has said that she made a mistake and she is sorry, but would have never done any thoughts like that if I hadn't started that argument and made her feel like she did. She told me repeatedly that I shouldn't overlook the bright side of our relationship and that if she wanted him or she didn't want to be with me she wouldn't.
So after a while I wouldn't mention that incident when it would happen to pass through my head until yesterday. Yesterday we were on a video call and she complained out of the blue that I haven't been saying very sweet compliments like I used to before that incident(I used to write her paragraphs about how I feel about her from time to time at night so she would wake up with such messages) . Just as I was about to forget that incident she reminded me of it. So I just replied "guess why ?" and she said "Ohhh we are never going to get over this, are we?" The moment she said this I got so mad , I didn't say anything I took a deep breath and told her calmly " I gotta study, think of what you just said" and I hung up the video call. ( Exams are next month and I am studying all day and all night, I am with 5-6 hours daily and the sun hasn't seen my face for over a week)
And yeah she hasn't contacted me since and I am wondering if I am the one in the wrong and I am overreacting and should apologize. This incident might seem insignificant compared to others but has significantly altered the kind of trust I have in her. What are your thoughts on this?

Diploma used to be at the level of a first-year conservatory student. Nowadays, there are art high schools in East Asia where students are playing Appassionata and Rach 2 and who are still struggling to into a conservatory. Around me, there are 12-14 year olds preparing for their LRSM and FTCL. Have I just seen a lot of people who are part of the cream of the crop or are the diplomas suddenly the new grade 8 now?
