5 months, Lowest dose, crazy success! sw: 411lbs cw-318lbs 93lbs lost!
Started ozempic end of January beginning February after a 13 day hospital stay for necrotizing fasciitis. During my stay they told me I was pre diabetic. I asked my doctor if my labs would qualify me for my insurance to cover oz and it was. Started and have stayed at the lowest dose the entire time. Injecting into my thigh weekly and have had so much success. Also, I’m paralyzed from the waist down, I can pivot transfer but can’t stand or walk. This meant getting weighed was a huge challenge. My doc didn’t have a wheelchair scale. Had an unrelated appointment at the hospital and with some calls and planning was able to get weighed today. I was absolutely gobsmacked…I knew it was working and I was losing weight. I could tell because of the changes in my body…hanging skin etc….turns out I’ve lost a total of 93lbs. So what have I done or should I say what haven’t I done…I haven’t done any working out nor have I completely changed the types of savory foods I eat. I still eat out, I still get fast food, I still eat red meat etc….I did quit smoking, quit soda, and quit sugar (not a complete sugar embargo but no sweets desserts or candy)….ill still have sugar if used in savory recipes, stuff like Hawaiian rolls, or glazed carrots etc….im just over the moon and had to share!!!

+70.5 points ES trade; + 50.25 points NQ trade: Add to your Winners.
... seriously, listen to Tom Hougaard.
Hi there,
long time no see bois n girls, I've been inactive in trading as a whole and the chat/channel knows it as well and I'm sorry for that. Past few weeks I was taking some time off in Philippines, resting and celebrating the best trade of my life that I've taken in swing trading cocoa this year - I documented the trade almost day by day in the chat as it happened and the total net gain was in 6 figures so there was a reason to celebrate. Might post about it here some time later as well.
I generally have little time as well as motivation to post but if I have a very good day in terms of very nice trades in teachable way for My System that can showcase it really well, I'll try to take some time and post about it.
ES trade
I'm currently trading on a new platform that I'm definitely not promoting here as it's complete and utter shit and we all know it looks like a special needs kid of tradovate and tradingview and the icing on the cake is that it just doesn't show your bloody trades on the chart... So at least for the visuals, posting like this.
For some time now, trying out the tick strategy that is actually not that much different from time-based principles of My System as I switched my priorities and prefer to take 1-2 high probability trades a day and be done ASAP.
Entry
On the 2000t, we are above the 200ema (looking for longs), we bounced off the Teeth of the Gator but failed to finish above the Lips. Bounced again from the area between the Teeth and Jaw/200ema and in this run, we finished above the lips - I entered Buy ES 1 @5356.25.
Adding to a winner
Most important part of this post and the reason I decided to take some time and post. One of the main philosophies of the OG Tom Hougaard is that you should add to your winners. And you should indeed. And this trade is prime example why. I did nothing special but after being a very shortly in negative followed by trade turning again in my favour, confirming my thesis, I added another contract to a position I believed in. The techincals are nothing special and consistent with what I use for years - it tested the Teeth, got rejected, pullbacked and finished above the Lips = I add to the position. On the picture, it's depicted with yellow (orange?) circles - I added to the winning trade 3 times, with overall position of 4 ES contracts.
Exit & The Difference
I exited by predetermined TP of +20 points from the first entry and it was a good decision. And what's the difference of a usual trade of 1 contract and the way of trading with adding to a winner? In the first case, even that trade would be a killer - getting 20 points of ES in a trade is insanely good. What's even more insane? The second case - trade with adding to a winner - as it eventually netted a combined gain of +70.5 points (!). That's 3.5x bigger gain than with just one contract. Hope this makes you starting to see and follow.
NQ trade
Pity I didn't follow Nasdaq and didn't go for that juicy trade earlier with bounce off the Teeth and finish above the Lips but I did go for the depicted one.
We dipped to the area between Teeth and Jaw and in a quite confident candle went back up all the way above the Lips. Good enough for me = entry. We retested Lips and went for the moon. According to the second rule of adding to a position (new high reached), I scaled in with one more contract of NQ. This was a scalp trade that happened rather quickly - as it often does with Nasdaq - and netted +50.25 points gain in under 5 minutes. Seriously not too shabby.
Adding to a winner here meant additional extra +10 points for no work whatsoever. On the contrary, my aim was TP of +$1,000 and adding the second contract helped to reach it sooner. Another powerful aspect of adding to a winner.
Bottom line
Hope these trades, especially the first one, helped you to see how powerful the concept of adding to a winner actually is. It compounds your overall gain and gets you to your desired gain sooner. On the other hand, always keep in mind that with bigger position, the downside also means a bigger risk and you need to count that in with your stop loss. As with everything, it's not just perfect concept with no drawbacks.
Overall, concept of adding to a winner can be a very powerful tool. It's like turning on that gov compound interest calculator and dreaming what your long term investments will look like in 25 years but in the setting of intraday trading, seeing the results within the minutes. Adding to a winner in daytrading world is what compound interest is in long term investments world - not in a technical sense but by its overall significance.
Hope you're having a good time trading, good luck to everyone!

2024.06.07 21:21 fr1sk93 Using ZFS dataset with truenas VM

Hello all
Currently planning to pass an ISCSI to a windows server 2022. (To be used from truenas). But I have some confusions..
I have created a ZFS pool of (2x 6tb) in proxmox in mirror raid.
I want to mount a 4tb to a truenas scale VM.
1) I just mount a one virtual 4tb and create a stripe dataset inside truenas?
2) I add 2 virtual of 4tb and add them inside truenas in mirror mode?
3) I remove the ZFS I've created in proxmox and just passthrogh the 2x 6tb to TrueNas?
I'll link the video of this network design plan in the comments (from Lawrence Systems) if anyone is interested.

2024.06.07 21:20 NepNep_ What is Goku's strongest provable direct feat? (See description)

As far as I'm aware, there is insufficient evidence that Goku is anything higher than planetary at best. I am of the opinion that a character has to actually do something to be provable demonstrated to be scalable to that level.
As an example. Bobobo unquestionably can be scaled to universal+ at minimum considering he has multiple feats where he's directly created, destroyed, or modified structures at the scale of an infinite universe.
As a counter example. One Punch Man can only be scaled to medium planet level since, to my understanding, his strongest feat was destroying a large part of Jupiter but he's never performed anything higher.
As far as I've seen, there is no demonstrable evidence that Goku has ever destroyed a planet, or comparably large structure. The most common scaling arguments I see are:
Example why scaling by proxy should never be used as primary evidence. I'll use Accel World cus I'm reading the series rn, you don't need to know much about the series:
Except in reality, Silver Crow would easily be 1 shot by Blue Knight. Why? Because scaling by proxy simplifies all the variables of a story down to "this character beat this character, therefore". Characters aren't numbers on a page, they have weaknesses and strengths that factor in to how or why they win against other characters. Scaling by proxy is strong supplemental evidence to demonstrate a larger point but on its own, it is not evidence of a character's strength under any circumstances.
So in summary. I want to know what Goku's strongest PROVABLE feat is. Something that is a direct result of his own power independent of plot-related temporary buffs or circumstantial context dependent info. What has he DONE, not what have other characters done that you believe he too can perform.

2024.06.07 21:15 skeletonriser I've finally completed my "Level in every zone on one character" challenge after a whole year!

I've finally completed my
https://preview.redd.it/eidpj99i275d1.jpg?width=482&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f10b3a14c13856f32986b16364c1e6c491de26b0
Last year, I wanted to challenge myself, and make a character that leveled in EVERY zone you typically level in. On 6/22/23, I created a hunter named Louse, and began my journey, and today 6/7/24, I finished the last zone and hit level 70. I used Chromie Time to stay "in" each expansion while I did them, so that they were always scaled to my level. The image you see above is one half of the total document I used to keep track of the zones to quest in, as well as the dates I completed each zone.
You can find the other half of the document, as well as other screenshots of my journey here: https://imgur.com/a/TErXz5a
Now I'll answer some questions you may have.
Q: How did you manage to level in every zone, but reached level 70 in Dragonflight?
A: If you're looking at the picture above, the zones with the Starnext to them are the zones I leveled up in. I would speak to Behsten in Stormwind Keep to turn off my XP, and played almost all of this with XP turned off! It wasn't until I got to the Dragon Isles that I kept it off for good. As a Mechagnome, I started at level 10, and I started Dragonflight at level 60.
Q: Why do this in the first place?
A: I don't play on a roleplay server, but my characters history and story matters a lot to me. Often when I play, I try to quest in zones that have NPCs relevant to the current story. For instance, in Legion, I'd level my alts in Faralas, as the dragons that eventually become raid bosses in Emerald Nightmare are there, and it's important for me for my character to know who they are, to know them personally. As the game advanced, more NPCs are added, and reused at various times, and there's no conceivable way for my character to know them ALL in a single typical leveling experience. That's primarily why I did this. When I did the Draenor intro, I knew EVERYONE there. I had talked and helped them at one point or another in the game, and they all knew me. THAT's important to me. THAT's why I did this.
Q: Why a hunter?
A: I'm typically a healer main, and honestly it was a year ago, I have no idea why I picked a hunter. I think I was debating doing some PvP in the future? Or maybe I just love taming pets. I've never gotten KSM on a DPS before, so that might have something to do with it. Plus hunters are fun.
Q: What was your favorite and least favorite zone to do?
A: I'm a sucker for Highmountain, have been since I heard the datamined music. Guess I'm lucky the Hunter Order Hall is there! My least favorite zone to do was Uldum unfortunately. I normally really like the zone, but when I got there during this challenge, it just felt really boring to me, and eventually lead to me taking a long break. I'd consider it one of my favorite Cata zones too, which is unfortunate I had such a hard time completing it.
Q: Did you do all the quests in the game?
A: No. I only quested in the zones that are meant to level in, and can be tracked via the story progress tab. I didn't do any quests in Broken Shore, Timeless Isle, Nazjatar, or any zone like that. I also didn't do starting zones like Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, or the likes. These are zones whose completion cannot be tracked the same way they can in the zones I did do. If you look at the picture posted, some of the "zones" are purple. Those are questlines or zones I chose to do that aren't part of the standard leveling experience, but are questlines and zones that I felt was important for my Hunter to experience and be a part of. I wanted my Hunter to be the Huntmaster, the savior of Suramar, and a Veteran of the Fourth War. Within the perimeters of this challenge, I did not have to do them, but it was important for my character to know those people, and live through those storylines.
and maybe the most important question... why a Mechagnome?
A: I actually like Mechagnomes, and Mechagon was my favorite part of BFA. Sue me.
Overall, I'm really happy I did this! The world is full of fun and exciting quests, and for the most part, I got to experience them all. This whole thing took me over a year to do (with a pretty sizeable break when I reached Cata), and I had fun the whole time. If you have any other questions, please ask below!

2024.06.07 21:10 RegulusPlus Flat DR tiers & The current state of damage reduction

Flat DR is becoming more commonplace (thanks to % DR negation doing the same), and I wanted to do an analysis on how much flat damage reduction is realistic for different types of units and why.
For anyone new to the concept of damage reduction, I'll explain how it differs from percentage-based damage reduction.

X% vs. X

Percentage-based damage reduction is a skill effect that reduces incoming damage after Atk, Def, and Res stats are factored in by a percentage.
Flat damage reduction (or damage negation) is a more recent skill effect that reduces incoming damage, after the usual damage calculation, by a flat number.
In the above example, how these two effects work is clear. Percentage-based DR can create a much greater reduction in damage (at the cost of its ability to be reduced). Flat DR usually creates a small reduction in damage, but it's more reliable and a critical effect for omni-tanks to take as little damage as possible.
These two effects are best when paired together. Basically, percentage-based DR makes big numbers into smaller numbers, and then flat DR turns those smaller numbers into tank-able numbers.
The best way to gain access to this combo on a tank is to get a %-DR Special:
as well as a source of flat DR, which are mostly on exclusive skills (and Laguz Friend, and Excel on PP & Specials).

How much Flat DR can we expect per unit (for now)?

Flat DR so far has been balanced according to a few factors such as:
  1. Conditionality
  2. Activation on specific strikes (e.g. only first/follow-up)
  3. Other trade-offs
  4. Placement in kit
Highly conditional flat DR can reach very high numbers, but as a result is able to be reduced to 0 by counterplay, unlike effects that use a number based on the user's stat.
When flat DR applies on only a specific strike, it tends to be higher. Similarly, other trade-offs can bring up the value of flat DR.
Finally, sacrificing a passive skill slot (B skill) seems to increase the value of flat DR because it cannot stack with Laguz Friend and also sacrifices other effects that can greatly enhance a tank's gameplay (Null C-Disrupt most notably).
Here are the classes or tiers of flat DR so far, their average X value, as well as the units in them *limited to one skill, this is not including units who can stack their weapon with Laguz Friend for example):
  1. All or Nothing (Super-High Ceiling)
    1. The source of damage negation can be absolutely countered, but has a high ceiling as a result.
    2. These units with such high flat DR either sacrifice their B skill or have drastically low Spd causing them to almost guarantee having to take two or more strikes if they cannot kill immediately on their counterattack.
    3. Examples:
      1. Eikthrynir: X is calculated as 50% of the highest total bonuses on nearby allies. From just his weapon's bonuses, this should be 9. With Spd/Res+6 on those same allies, it goes up to 18. Under extreme circumstances (double buffs due to Harsh Command or Attuned Micaiah), this can come up to 32 or more from this skill alone. However, him and his allies can be panicked and all DR will be lost.
      2. Attuned Caeda: X is the highest total bonuses on nearby allies (double the deer man, but also takes up her B skill slot). With her base kit and her bonuses not negated, this is 24 flat DR. It can go up to double that (48 or more) with flipped penalties and no panic.
      3. Nidhoggr: X is the damage dealt to foe (max 20). Yes she deals 8 combat-beginning damage so that base value should be 8, but Breath of Life can counter this.
  2. Higher Value, Higher Cost (25% or 30% of a Stat)
    1. There's a slight increase in the value of damage negation at a cost. This difference of 5% or 10% of a stat when dealing with modern stats can
    2. For all of the below tiers, the estimated value of X is calculated using only their weapon, their stats with flowers and a boon in the respective stat, and an average of +10 to that stat to account for passive skills.
    3. Examples:
      1. New Year Nerthuz: X = 25% of Spd, but only on the foe's first attacks. This value is about 19.
      2. Diamant: X = 25% of Def, but negates all non-Special % DR on himself and hinders his own ability to follow-up. This value is about 15. This is due to only getting Def+5 from his weapon and not having highest base stat either.
      3. Rhea: X = 30% of Res, but only on follow-up attacks. This value is about 19.
      4. Edward: X = 16, but only when getting hit with an offensive Special.
  3. The Blueprint (20% of a Stat)
    1. This was the introduction of this effect. 20% of a stat, after in-combat effects. When using the Atk stat, the percentage is reduced due to weapon might, so it becomes 15%.
    2. Note the outlier in Bridal Embla (an amazing unit). Not only does she get higher stats, but she's the only significantly faster unit in this class. All other units calculate flat DR based off of a defensive stat and as such have lower Spd mostly and risk follow-ups.
    3. Examples:
      1. Spring Maria: The original, getting 20% of her Def as damage negation. The value is about 13.
      2. Askr: X = 20% of Def; it's about 13.
      3. New Year Askr: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      4. Bridal Embla: X = 20% of Spd; valued at about 15, thanks to her modern weapon granting about 10 more stats than other units in this class.
      5. Brave Dimitri: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      6. Dimitri: X = 15% of Atk; about 12.
      7. Gatekeeper: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      8. Midori: X = 15% of Atk; about 13.
      9. Ninja Cherche: X = 20% of Def; about 12.
      10. Laguz Friend Users: X = 20% of Def/Res, should be in line with the above, those with modern weapons and refines (+13-15 to stats) hitting Embla's 15, otherwise hitting around 12.
  4. The New Normal (Fixed Value or 15% of a Stat)
    1. Basically, you need flat DR to survive now, so this is added to a unit's kit who also has other means of survival such as overall high stat swings, higher Spd, infantry skill access, % DR in the same skill, is a grail unit (lol), etc.
    2. Examples:
      1. Rinkah: X = 15% of Def, but only on first attacks; valued at around 9.
      2. Cormag: X = 15% of Def, valued at around 7.
      3. Edward: X = 8, unless when getting hit with an offensive Special.
      4. Halloween Corrin: X = 8, on defensive Special trigger.
      5. Brave Corrin: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      6. Legendary Corrin: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      7. Say'ri: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      8. Fallen Ike: X = 7, on foe's first attacks only.
      9. Mozu: X = 10
      10. Divine Veine (Stone): X = 10, when hit with an offensive Special.
  5. We Used to be a country A proper country
    1. The lowest amount of flat DR which belongs to skills that are either outdated or have a lot else going for them, but each big of flat DR can contribute to survival. Upgrades to these inheritable skills could become very relevant.
    2. Examples:
      1. Shield Pulse: X = 5, on defensive Special trigger.
      2. Hardy Fighter: X = 5, on defensive Special trigger.
      3. Summer Fjorm: X = 5, on defensive Special trigger.

Final Notes

Of course there are some units I probably missed and in-combat all of these numbers will look different according to each situation. But this is to paint a general picture of how flat DR is currently balanced in the game. The key notes are that:

2024.06.07 21:06 YentaMagenta I sincerely feel bad for folks flocking to Cara

I admit the headline is click-/rage-baity, but I also mean it.
Here's the TLDR: Cara is a lovely idea that currently lacks a viable long-term business model. Surviving in a form that reflects its current principles will require acts of charity or a sea-change in the public's willingness to pay for social media.
I think we can agree that Instagram and Facebook have become an annoying morass of promoted content and outright advertising. I hope we can also agree that the content-farm AI-generated images taking over Facebook are obnoxious (albeit sometimes hilarious). For people who were purely interested in seeing/promoting photography, Instagram is no longer home. As for DeviantArt, I can't even fully wrap by brain around whatever drama is happening there.
Given the enshittification of popular social media platforms, who could blame creatives for seeking something new that is simple and free of paid content and AI? I do both real-world photography and AI art. But I might very well be willing to shell out for a platform that served me high-effort content free of advertising and algorithmic interference—even with the restriction that I could only post my non-AI work there.
Unfortunately for all of us, the long-term viability of such a platform is questionable, even before any staunchly AI stances are taken into account. Operating and hosting an image-based social media platform is expensive and labor intensive. For Cara, these costs are compounded by the fact that they intend to scan for AI generated images—something which does not even reliably work. There is also, of course, the need for ongoing protections/moderation to prevent illegal/abusive content.
Then consider that the users of Cara are going to be strongly inclined to try to ferret out and report anything they suspect has even a whiff of AI. This is a content moderation nightmare. Either you're too strict and creators of non-AI content get frustrated for being blocked or banned—whether because of false positives or false accusations. Or you're too lenient and anti-Ai creatives rebel when the platform sees increasing amounts of content that contains at least some AI. Put all of this together and you have a recipe for at best a walled garden and at worst a corral of recrimination.
It remains to be seen whether the masses care enough about their selfies and Insta stories being digested by AI to want to abandon their established accounts and the network effects of entrenched social media. To give an example, Elon Musk is a liar, a racist, and increasingly unhinged. (Sorry, but facts are facts, Muskrats.) But this has yet to bring about Twitter's complete downfall. It thus seems unlikely that normies are going to abandon their social media over generative AI concerns. This would mean that artists who restrict themselves to Cara miss out on essential opportunities to market to a broad audience.
I therefore see three main categories of possible outcome for Cara:
One is short- or long-term collapse. Maybe they get more near-term angel investing or crowd funding, maybe they don't. But either way the money runs out someday and the party ends. Another possibility is that they are forced to renege on some of their promises/principles. This could mean anything from bringing in advertising and paid content, to softening their stance/enforcement regarding artwork that incorporates AI. And finally they could experience a miracle and discover that angel investors and/or the public at large are willing to pay in perpetuity for an ad-free and ostensibly "AI-free" experience. (I use the scare quotes because keeping all AI out still seems like a losing battle).
All in all, the chances that Cara continues to exist in a form that pleases its current user base seem remote. But if this turns out to be the dawn of mass-scale, wholly noncommercial social media for high-quality art, then I'll celebrate right along with the artists.

2024.06.07 21:04 BrownBear71 Reviewing "Chinese Restaurant" from Zhegao. QL 0937 from Gulo Gulo on Ali

Reviewing
My THIRD little building (24w) from Zhegao. I bought this because I had so many Ali coupons (playing Merge Boss + their Anniversary sale $3 off + coins) and it was CHEAP. And design wise and size wise, it fits in with Rome Restaurant and The Hill (not a tavern).
This time, I built it according to instructions and didn't heavily mod it. Maybe in the future when I form some plans.
Exterior: This is the "Chinese Restaurant" part, and really isn't much of a restaurant or Chinese. No signs in Chinese, no Chinese food, no Chinese-styled building design. The red and yellow awing can be for any food establishment. McDonalds, even.
On the outside, there's a small tree. I don't really care for it. It's fragile, falls apart easily and doesn't look realistic. I think I'll replace it with a streetlamp, a bamboo plant or a palm tree. Speaking of plants, this building is loaded with potted flowers, more than usual.
The exterior windows on the first floor are set too low. The large block of uninterrupted wall above them just screams "move the windows higher!"

First Floor: There is a pretty large counter, and the only food looks like lemon swirl puffs and 4 magenta bottles. Even with 4 chairs and 2 small tables, there's plenty of space on the floor, and a lot of unused space under the stairs. No chef station or any way to whip up any dim sim, or cook any fish, or stir-fry any noodles.
https://preview.redd.it/he75qv0e575d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=457682d13c784d3775cb51d20e78b24a8feebc83
Second Floor: There's a nice large protruding bay window.
Unlike the other Zhegao buildings, this floor has a very large, luxurious (and space-inefficient) bathroom (takes up one third of the floor) with a tub. Maybe trying to emulate Japanese screens, the bathroom is separated from the floor with three large, door-sized white panels and no door.
Outside the bathroom and stairwell, the room has a bed and a nightstand and that's it. But there's more stuff to explore upstairs!
https://preview.redd.it/fls591jq575d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76f3f5f63e1274d777c03d63d262e6badc0d934c

Third Floor: This floor is a 50/50, with half of it being an outdoor patio and the other half is a small interior room. It has a nice balcony, accessible via a door from the room. But half of that room is dedicated to the stairwell, leaving very little useful space. It has a nightstand and a chest of drawers, but no bed, no seating or anything, so the room is of very little use.
Outdoor patio comes with 2 kittens, the usual umbrella, small table and 2 seats. Maybe the cats should live inside.
https://preview.redd.it/hofsp8b8675d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=752f5c27fb6c5d750d99855ca501212e5d6ae94c

This has potential. But the Zhegao trademarks of open backs and no support pillars makes this a little flimsy. And the open stairwells... lol. On the good side, the large number of windows on all the floors is a great relief over the claustrophobic bricked-up walls of Zhegao's "Hill Tavern". For this price point (~$25-$35) it's worth it. Can be extensively modded and has enough "starter pack" furnishings as a springboard for ideas on better living. There are small, 24w buildings like Mork Model's scaled-down "Detective Agency" with no furniture at all.

2024.06.07 20:55 Sufficient_Tooth_949 Rookie mistake again....just a rough situation where I don't feel like im the one to be blamed

As a 2 month newbie I kind of assumed that the dispatcher is checking out things like hours of service before they offer a load, as a new person I've felt compelled to ALWAYS accept a load, I don't want to be seen as lazy or picky, right? I'll accept everything that comes my way and show I'm willing to do anything and work hard.....I'm not one of those owner op guys or veterans that gets the luxury of being picky
I knew I could start rolling soon after a 10 hr break, and I saw my 70 hour clock was a bit high but I knew I had some big recaps coming to me, well I had a dead day, one of my final home time days, so I had to sit for an extended period to get time back on my 70 while under the load I accepted
Well another hard lesson learned, don't just blindly accept what dispatch offers, I talked to a fill in dispatcher that seemed sympathetic to my "service failure for extended break" since I'm still new....but it looks like on paper and in the system it's going to count against me anyways
I do pay attention to my HOS, that home time day caught me off guard, it was day 7, I was certain I had several fat recaps to get me to the destination, and under my previous beliefs, that's the dispatchers job to look at stuff like that right?? Especially for someone still pretty damn new i was thinking i would have some form of training wheels with the dispatcher
The 3 weeks with the trainer I was just trying to get used to the lifestyle, driving stamina, backing, shippers and receivers, paperwork, trailer wash outs, big city driving, navigation, fueling, sliding tandems and scaling, operating the reefer unit.....just a shitload of stuff so this wasn't gone over much with my trainer, it's ALOT to take in for someone new to all of this
Nobody really explained to me about denying loads is okay, and I need to double check what the dispatcher sends me, until this fill in dispatcher talks to me
Idk if I suck or what, but I'm giving it my all and it seems like everything is my fault and I do everything wrong
at this point I'm ready to go work at Walmart for $12 an hour because hours/time/stress/responsibility/money it's a much better deal and I see that now

2024.06.07 20:44 Abelardthebard [OC] Nyrheim: Then & Now, or How I Handle History in my Homebrew

Hey y'all! Lately I've been working on the 'History' section of my lore book for The Duchy of Nyrheim, and I came up with a method I really like and thought I'd share for anyone who is homebrewing their own setting.
I got the idea while reading some Marvel comics -- I've been collecting the best runs of the 2000s (happy to take recs) and noticed something interesting. When dealing with a story that has roots in Marvel's past (or even if they are writing those past events for the story at hand), they will often start with a flashback simply titled "Then" before shifting to a scene in the present titled "Now". I haven't to imagine that part of why they do this is the sliding time scale. But something about the simplicity of it all really spoke to me.
When writing the history of the region, I wanted a way to separate the events that have happened long ago from those whose impacts are being felt strongly in the present. These terms have helped me get there. I'm a little generous with the term "now..." which I use to cover the past 400 years or so, you can obviously set whatever threshold you like. But you can use this to set up some pretty exciting stories -- Then: Isildur killed Sauron, Now: It's Bilbo Baggins' eleventy-first birthday. It also maybe characterizes what may inform what are the ruins, treasures, or dungeons of your setting and what are the everyday societies and cultures found in the urban environments.
One last thing I'll add, I always include how many years ago something was and not just the date. If you are making your own timeline, the dates may just look like vague numbers to readers/players. By telling them how long ago something was, it puts it in relative terms they are more ready to understand. You can even use this method and be pretty vague about dates if you aren't ready to lock a timeline hard in stone. One version I had prior to this just used headings like "About 400 years ago", but I'd never break it down in increments less than 100s of years.
Here's what I've got right now for my setting, happy to expand on any information or answer any questions in the comments below! What would be the highlights of the Then & Now of your settings?

Then...

Explore the origins of the region, from ancient fey dominions through epic conquests and the rule of Nyrheim's first dwarven dukes. This section covers events from The Dark Age that occurred across the lands that now make up the north of the Floren Kingdom.
FALL OF THE FEY
Over 2,600 Years Ago (100s BCE)... For thousands of years, Elyndel's northwestern lands (then called Faen'tir) were dominated by elven tribes with other fey and kobolds scattered throughout the region. Though most of their conflict was with unseelie, giants, and humans, there was also scarce political unity between the elves. The Old Antum Empire, however, emerged from a collection of human tribes in the south. At the dawn of thew millenium, the Emperor's legions attacked with iron and fire against the might and magic of the fey. This conflict, known at "The Feywars" forever tipped the scales of power in Elyndel.
RISE OF RAYONNÉ
Over 2,300 Years Ago (200s CE)... Rayonné, was founded under the influence of the Antum Empire and quickly became a crucial trade hub. Strategically located on an island within a major river, Rayonné's natural defenses and prime location facilitated its rapid growth, even though it wouldn't even become the capital of Floren for over 2,000 years. The Antum Empire invested heavily in the city's infrastructure, constructing grand structures such as an amphitheater, public baths, and majestic temples. They also encouraged migration to the new city by offering incentives such as land grants and tax breaks to new freemasons.
SINKING OF MYR
Over 2,000 Years Ago (500s CE)... To escape political strife and external threats, many elves of Westernor began to emigrate to Brynthal. They brought with them a revival of their fey culture and arcane wisdom, establishing a thriving community in the region. Off the coast they built Myr, a magnificent island city built protected by enchanted barriers. However a warlock's dark pact led to the city's destruction, sinking Myr and its inhabitants into the abyss. The islands ruins, now a haunting legend, lure adventurers seeking its lost treasures and secrets.
SHADOWS IN THE WEST
Over 1,700 Years Ago (800s CE)... After ravaging eastern and central Elyndel, Grotar the "Scourge of Orcus" turned his focus westward. General Gaius Tullarix of Old Antum was tasked with defending the region against the invading Shadow Horde and its ogre warlord. Recognizing the threat, General Tullarix rallied a broad coalition of various tribes in the Empire to confront the invaders. They clashed near Véreluce in northeastern Floren, fighting fiercely for hours without yielding. However, faced with staunch resistance and severe casualties, the Shadow Horde retreated, forcing Grotar to forgo his aspirations of conquests in the west.
OUT OF THE EMPIRE
Over 1,400 Years Ago (1100s CE)... After the collapse of Old Antum, the region fell into chaos. Afterward, humans of the Floren tribe moved in from the east. The Fontainian family, under the leadership of King Tharic, united the disparate tribes and transformed the region into the formidable Floren kingdom. Following Thalric's death, the Fontainain dynasty faced internal strife and political fragmentation, as his successors struggled to maintain the unity he had forged. This period saw a kaleidoscope of petty kingdoms, each vying for power and influence. But despite these challenges, the Fontainians managed to preserve their hegemony for centuries.
UNDYING ALLEGIENCE
Over 1,100 Years Ago (1400s CE)... King Calixte I's death divided Floren again: Prince Calixte II inherited the north and Princess Sera the south. When Calixte II slew the dragon Jarghul, he drew the interest of a valkyrie who had come for the fallen. The while, Sera was murdered by her power-hungry husband. Seeking vengeance, Calixte II turned to necromancy, creating an army where fallen foes would serve him in death. The valkyrie, now known as The Wild Hunt, gifted him a spark of her power, and just when they seized the south, the gods imprisoned her for oath breaking. Calixte II was later killed by agents of his brother-in-law's mistress.
DIVINITY AND DYNSATY
Over 800 Years Ago (1700s CE)... The Loralian Dynasty in Floren has roots tracing back to Gaston Loralian I, a chief household officer to the Fontainian kings. The family gradually gained power as the royal family's influence waned (they were derogatorily dubbed as "do-nothing kings"). The critical shift occurred when Gaston III, with the support of the Pontifex, deposed the last Fontainian king. The church then crowned him as the king of Floren, establishing a precedent the divine right of kings, a principle that would heavily influence Elyndean politics thereafter. This coronation also ensured protection for the emergent Sacral-Antum Empire against invasions.
THE NORTHERN RAIDERS
Over 500 Years Ago (2000s CE)... At the turn of the millennium, dwarves of the north begin a campaign of large-scale raiding, colonizing, conquest, and trading along the northern shores of mainland Elyndel. To counter the raids, the Floren King Etienne I ceded the Cormorin Peninsula to the neighboring elven duchy of Brynthal in exchange for military aid. However, the elven magics faltered, and the dwarven berserkers further entrenched themselves as a new, formidable power in the region. Within a century, the raids shifted from a seasonal occurrence to a constant stream.

Now...

As the Age of Enlightenment dawned, the dwarves of settling in Nyrheim navigated the tides of Floren politics, forging alliances and asserting their influence across the north. The events that transpired during these transformative years have left an indelible mark on the region's history and people.
A DWARVEN DUCHY
410 Years Ago (2177 CE)... During the height of the dwarven raids, an ambitious dwarf named Rolf led a fleet into the heart of the Floren Kingdom. After a brutal but costly assault, Rolf attempted to flee from the Floren cavalry, but was unable to board his ships. Instead, he formed a defensive wall by slaughtering his army's livestock. The enemy charge halted as their horses were terrified by the sight and stench. Stuck in a stalemate, the Florens decided to negotiate with the dwarves. In exchange for peace, the King Etienne III ceded the lands from Roann to the north coast. Rolf was crowned as the duke and given the name “Lionheart” for his bravery.
THE QUEEN'S CAPTIVE
232 Years Ago (2355 CE)... After Duke Rolf's death, the Floren Queen Aveline II betrayed her predecessor's pact with the dwarves by confining Rolf's daughter, Eyma, in Rayonné and seizing the duchy's lands. This sparked a revolt among her supporters, who stormed Aveline's palace and demanded her freedom. Eventually Aveline, claiming she was teaching her courtly manners, reluctantly released her. A decade later, Eyma and her allies defeated Queen Aveline in battle. She held her hostage until she recognized her as Duchess of Nyrheim, restoring her rule over the duchy.
TREASURE AND TREACHERY
109 Years Ago (2478 CE)... Dwarven raids on Alwyndon resumed, with raiders crossing the northern channel to Nyrheim where they sold their plunder. Duchess Eyma, defying a treaty her father Duke Rolf had signed with High King Brady of Alwyndon, secretly provided sanctuary to these raiders. This breach of agreement provoked an Alwyndan military response. King Brady ordered an attack on the Cormorin Peninsula, demanding Eyma's capture and extradition. However, the Alwyndan forces were unprepared for the swift and fierce counterattack by the Nyrman cavalry, resulting in their complete and utter defeat.
A SUDDEN DEATH
88 Years Ago (2499 CE)... When Duchess Eyma died, her daughter Ylvana took power and immediately implemented harsh reforms to solidify her authority, cloaked as measures to strengthen the duchy. Appalled by her tyranny, her brother Harek attempted a rebellion but failed. Ylvana captured him and in a show of "mercy", publicly amputated his left hand before forcing him to reaffirm his loyalty. Soon after returning to Roann, Ylvana met a mysterious sudden death, rumored to be from poisoning — suspicions fell on disgruntled nobles, her advisors, or even Harek. Ultimately viewed as a martyr, Harek ascended to the ducal throne, stabilizing the region.
FLIGHT FROM ALWYNDON
62 Years Ago (2525 CE)... Duke Harek orchestrated a major trade pact with Alwyndon, marrying his sister Marnyl to the King Adalwulf of Kelden. Out of these new bonds, the Maritime Freight Guild was born, which proved its worth a decade later when Sven "Stormcloak" and his forces invaded Kelden. As the situation deteriorated, Queen Marnyl and her family escaped on the last trade ships out of the country. In Nyrheim, they remained under Duke Harek's protection. When the King eventually passed, Marnyl was stationed as the Countess of Roann. There, she raised her sons in a noble court and prepared them for leadership.
THE DUKE'S BASTARD
34 Years Ago (2548 CE)... During one of his sojourns, Duke Harek was ensnared in a passionate affair. Though fleeting, the liaison bore fruit in the form of an illegitimate son—Waldron. The identity of his mother has been the subject of much speculation, but her identity remains unknown. Meanwhile, Waldron grew up amidst speculative whispers and the weight of expectation. The duke's court, a place where honor and lineage are held in the highest regard, viewed him with a mixture of curiosity and disdain. Yet, Duke Harek, with a defiance that had characterized his reign, acknowledged Waldron as his son and sole heir.
ERRS IN SUCCESSION
17 Years Ago (2570 CE)... In Floren, Prince Etienne V joined forces with his younger brother Adnot and their mother in a revolt against his father, the reigning king. However, following the king's demise, Queen Urilla shifted her support to Adnot as the rightful heir, leaving Etienne V to contend with his rebel sibling and a divided kingdom. Seeking support, Etienne turned to Nyrheim and found an ally in Duke Harek. Grateful for the duke's aid during this turbulent period, the newly established King Etienne V rewarded Harek with the counties of Martovia and Vinmoria, strengthening the bonds between Nyrheim and the Floren crown.
PRINCES OF THE PENTARCHY
This Year (2587 CE)... With the full might of his navy, Duke Harek launched an invasion of Kelden, aiming to restore the now elderly princes to their throne. Tragically, Prince Adalwulf II was captured by an earl in his kingdom. In a cruel act intended to disqualify him from kingship, Finnian brutally blinded him with red-hot pokers -- the prince later died from his grievous injuries. In the wake of this tragedy, Prince Edmund, rallied the thegns of Alwyndon and defeated Sven Stormcloak's forces with the crucial support of Duke Harek. Their victory led to the the reestablishment of the five kingdoms under the Alwyndan Pentarchy.

DIVINITY AND DYNASTY

Appalled by her tyranny, her younger brother Harek attempted a rebellion but failed.
Duke Harek orchestrated a major trade pact with Alwyndon, marrying his younger sister Marnyl to the King Adalwulf of Kelden.

2024.06.07 20:17 atxHomeImprovement Understanding self-hosting a public load balancer for small/early project infrastructure

I'm interested in self-hosting a public load balancer for my infrastructure supporting small/early projects.
I know, I know: It's stupid, I shouldn't do it, I'm insane, stop and use AWS services.
Assume I want to learn the hard way and that's not an option here.
With that said.... I'm curious, generally speaking, what kind of capabilities I'd have, say, self-hosting HAProxy on a t3.small instance (or maybe even a t3.micro)?
AFAICT, HAProxy is wildly performant and can do alot with little. And I'm not doing alot.
As far as average capacity, I'm planning for 'a few hundred' users of an unexciting, JSON-serving mobile application backend. HTTPS, but no WebSockets (yet), file transfers will be routed through S3, nothing complex otherwise.
As far as spike planning, I'll be using pre-configured AMIs for my infrastructure and I'm OK with an autoscaling SLA of 'a few seconds' to horizontally scale up the load balancer, should that ever happen. But I'm not really planning to have spikes and, if they happen, I'm tolerant of some short downtime for horizontal scaling.
As far as ongoing capacity planning, I'd like to be able to have some stats I can keep an eye on and, if the host resources start to saturate, manually horizontally scale as needed (I think CPU/memory/networking probably works for this).
Again, this is for my personal cloud, personal projects. I'm in for the learning.
Is this all a reasonable perspective? Anything I'm missing?

2024.06.07 20:16 ThrowRAmadame9 I was called wallowing in self pity for crying non stop after

A really rough shift.
I just wanted to vent, eat and watch a movie.
If I wallowed in self pity you would see me relentlessly posting about illnesses on social media and wearing braces when I don’t need them.
I can’t even get guidance from the VA about my neurological issues. So why waste my time?

2024.06.07 20:13 Far-Score-5554 PSA: TJ Maxx is an HR tech company

In case you’re wondering why your hours suck, who would want to hawk a card for nearly minimum wage, or why the corporation structure seems to magically map onto that famous “plantation corporation” paper, the answer is the same: TJ Maxx is an HR tech company.
TJ Maxx has a supply chain advantage that leans heavily on recent tech, much like Amazon. The way they source product stuck in the middle of the supply chain at a QA check has enabled their relatively low pricing, but that’s not the only thing at work here. What TJX has figured out, over and above competitors, is that you can ameliorate the standard human resource issues that come with low paid, moderately skilled labor with cheaper automated solutions. They solve for criminality with LP, as it’s cheaper to root out internal fraud rings with LP than to pay to hire people at a livable wage with a strong resume. They solve for overt mental illness with a “help” line that interacts directly with corporate HR - who, to be explicit, do not exist to help you, but to protect the company. They solve for citizenship issues with a multilayered verification process that allows them to foist responsibility onto local stores and evade lawsuits. If you look around at your store, and see that virtually everyone employed either shouldn’t be there, or cannot do their job fully, this is why. Typically those hires cause terminal problems for a company at scale, but not if you’ve built your operational processes around those hires.
TJX has mastered the current hiring environment with automated processes that leave the company operating cheaply and without liability. That’s how they can grow while asking you to break your back for 12 an hour. You deserve to understand this.

2024.06.07 19:57 Error_Gloomy Purchasing monitor I'll be using w MacBook. Any & all advice welcome

Budget: around $400
Prospective Resolution: 1440p or higher
Size: 27/32/34"
Adaptive Sync: unsure. I will be using it as a bigger display for my laptop. I plan on building a PC soon, so maybe this should be of concern to me?
Other Features: Preferably a VA panel. I've read they have better color contrast, which is important to me.
Usage Type: Primarily schoolwork, some photo editing, watching videos, some music prod., and a little gaming but nothing demanding as of now.
The main reason I need a monitor is because I don't like working on my laptop. My head always has to be tilted down to look at my screen and the display is only 14 inches. Are there any monitor restrictions I should lookout for since I'll be using my laptop to power it?
I prioritize display and color, but would like decent specs for potential gaming (I don't play as much as I used to so this isn't as important to me as contrast and color) I wish I had the money for an OLED, but I'm in college so that will have to wait. Can a bigger display like a 34" be used with my MacBook M2chip?
These are the monitors I've been considering: HP Omen 34", HP Omen 27", Samsung G7 27", and AOC AG275QXL 27"

2024.06.07 19:50 Lil_Bad_b 1st trimester weight concerns

Good Afternoon, Mommas!
I need advice. I'm a 38 yo FTM, in my 1st pregnancy nearly 8 years since pulling the goalie from the net. I had honestly given up. We were surprised, but excited. All that is to say that I'm super paranoid and following all the rules I can find. I'm worried if I lose this one, there will be no second chance. I had my first prenatal appointment this week and asked a ton of questions. It had been a pretty overwhelming experience already so near the end I was less thorough than I needed to be when asking about weight.
Pre-pregnancy I was overweight. Not a little, but I'm not unable to be active. I'm actually quite active. Or was before my new addition. I stopped focusing on my scale as much a while back opting to weigh myself once in a while rather than obsessively like I had been. The way I looked at it, if I can still get on my bike and put in 30 miles for a workout, I'm probably ok. Cut to the last week in May when I realized I was more than a little late accompanying a low level nausea all day. I bought a pregnancy test.🥳 the happiest (and scariest) positive test a gal in my situation can get, putting me on the last day of 6w. The next morning I did step on the scale having just weighed myself by chance 2 days prior. I had lost weight. Since then I've continued to lose weight. 7+ pounds since 5/28.The day after my positive test was the day I started small snacks often for the nausea, but everything I eat has become so much more healthy and I'm not denying myself food when I'm hungry nor have I vomited yet. I admittedly had fallen into convenient foods because of the stressful and time consuming job I have. My husband keeps telling me that I'm losing weight because I'm eating healthier while burning more for the baby. My next appointment is a blood draw in a couple of weeks so I'm not sure I'll be able to ask anyone if I should be concerned. I feel like my head knows this is normal, but my anxiety won't listen. My anxiety keeps telling me that I should be leveling off or I'm not eating enough. My head knows I seem to do nothing but eat.
Anyone else have experience with this?
Thanks, Y'all!
