Hello! This weekend my husband and I are going to meet a 15 week old male Cavalier puppy. We currently have an 11 (maybe 12 year old) cat Salem, who we have had for 8 of her years. She is very laid back, loves just bird watching, taking naps, and plays here and there with us. From what I’m told, the puppy is very nice (great with other dogs but they don’t have a cat), eager to please, and surprisingly pretty chill.
I of course, as anxious because Salem is my baby, but we have a decent sized house that can be sectioned off until she (and he) are ready to co-mingle.
Has anyone here had a cavalier puppy and introduced it to your resident cat? How did it go? Looking for some success stories (and of course advice) to calm my nerves a little bit.

Every pet I have ever met (mainly talking about cats and dogs) does this thing where if you put your hand on top of their paw they’ll pull it out and put it on top of your hand. Is their a reason for this? I don’t think it’s general uncomfortableness at their feet being touched because they usually put the paw right back on top of your hand. For dogs I thought maybe it was a hierarchy thing but cats do it too so idk

TL/DR: fragile skin issue in new puppy. Doesn’t seem to be allergies to food as he came with cuts and scratches. Skin rips open from scratching.
Background: this is the 7th dog for my wife and I, and our 5th pit or pit mix. This is just our 2nd puppy.
Where I need help: we adopted a dog from a rescue. He was ~12 weeks old and found in the woods with his brother. Both had bad cuts on their bodies that required stitches/sutures/staples. Our guy had open wounds on his elbows. They assumed it was from another animal. The first week of ownership was great. The occasional accident and waking up at 5am comes with the territory. The next week he was playing with my resident pit mix as they had done many times. They got along great. She would let him win at tug of war with the rope and he even tried to nurse from her (she had littelitters before we adopted her). They were inseparable. Unfortunately she went to correct him when he took a bone from her and he got a cut under his eye. Lesson learned, no more high value items when both are out of their crates. The skin ripped open again a few days later after the vet said he would be fine with just a small mark on his face. 2nd ER vet visit in as many weeks was not fun but again, comes with the territory. A week goes by with him in a cone, he is sitting in my backyard with me while I’m gardening. I came back inside and noticed he had blood running down his shouldeback from a 1 inch long cut. The only time he left my side was to go underneath some hydrangea bushes and sniff around. 3rd visit to ER for more sutures. Cone comes off cuz face scar is healed. Next day he is scratching his ear, and then I see a 1/2” long cut on the ear with massive amounts of blood coming out. 4th ER visit and staples put in to close wound. We are going to call a dermatologist today to see jf we can test him for anything. Last night he was itching his shouldeback, and started to bleed again from the mystery 1” cut. Ignoring that we have spent $4k in under a month, we aren’t sure how to give him a quality of life. We have another pittie, 2 cats, 2 kids, and work/life. I’m paranoid if he corners a cat and gets a scratch, that will be the final straw for him. We think the elbow cuts (for him and his brother) are why they were dumped. We originally thought it was cuz his ears fold in, instead of outwards.
Anyone have any experience with skin popping open from scratching?

 | I'm in absolute disbelief with how perfect this cat is. She just came home with us after 10 days of torture at the humane society and she feels right at home with us. They wouldn't let us take her home until they spayed her (longest 4 days ever). Her last 2 days consisted of getting spayed and hours later was given a "dog evaluation" aka.. put in a room with dogs within a few hours of surgery and anesthesia. Which is absolutely inexcusable if you ask me. And another day sitting in her tiny cage. We got her home and expected 3-14 days of hiding. That lasted about an hour, she came out and explored and was our best friend within 2 hours. She slept at the end of our bed most of the night, she responds and runs right up to us for pets. The most cuddly little kitty I've ever met. She loves people so much. I just cannot believe how lucky we are to have such a perfect little angel, especially with her first night home and us deciding to just let her do her thing in the whole house. I find it pretty wild that my wife and I are viewed as "abnormal" for not ever wanting to have even a single child, but folks won't bat an eye at a couple with 3 kids, 2 dogs, a cat, and a hamster. The chaos and noise in a home like that is mind boggling. Peace and quiet is so rare already in our ever technologically growing world that I really truly enjoy coming in the door of my home and knowing there's complete peace and quiet. So glad this community is back!

When I started trading meme coins, I was fixated on the front page of dexscreener, consistently waiting for dips that never came or missed dips because of time zone differences. I was impulsive, made losses constantly, never made any significant profits, so I always at the verge of giving up like many have on here.
Majority of the people here suggest trading meme coins when they launch or at high velocity, I am completely against that, you are not in control of the trade, the probability of you making a loss is significantly higher than making any ample profits. You as a trader want to be in control of your trade, not to be controlled by others impulsiveness and emotions, because that what happens when you trade by following the crowd.
My method is simple, firstly check what is trending on dexscreener, cat and dog stuff? The common narrative this week was GameStop and AMC right?
Then once you gauge what is trending, go to the filters, set market cap below 50k, time can be set in 2 different filters; one above 24 hours and the other below 24 hours. Then you look for trading signals, and increasing volume, you read the charts seeing the same pattern happening, nice. If not move on and consistently search.
Obviously right now I am protecting my method, if you want an excellent guide of me explaining all the filters I set, where I buy and sell, a live tutorial of me entering a trade showing you me taking profits with my method. I will explain everything from basic science of meme coins and trading with large market caps and protecting from rug pulls and scams then message me in dm we can discuss the details.

2024.05.16 14:11 spiffyteacup3 Will she get nicer?
We recently adopted a stray from a friend. Well, she (Smokey) came with surprises, 4 to be exact. I've never had a pregnant cat or even been around one and once I started getting suspicions it was too late for a spay and abort. The vet gave her two weeks until the kittens were born and surprise surprise, they were born 3 days later in the closet of our "animal room". ( just an extra bedroom with the dog cages and a cat liter box)
But Smokey has became so mean to my other cats (Rue and Fluffy) now. They weren't getting along great before but could be on the same room without being attacked by her. Not anymore. I had to move Rues liter box because she couldn't get to it without being attacked. Rue now sleeps in my room to stay as far away from Smokey as she can.
Will Smokey become nicer after the kittens are weaned and gone? She's nice to my husband and I and tolerates the kids but hates all of our other animals.

Hello there, I am age 29, AMAB, 175 cm tall, single, cisgender, heterosexual, live in the German speaking part of Switzerland and I have been single for 2 years now, looking for someone who could enrich my life. I don't mind being solitary but I as I enter my 30s I want to experiment further with life. I am generally quite healthy, physically active, a bit chubby I suppose? About me:
- I am very affectionate (some would qualify this as clingy), I try to be diplomatic within disputes, not a fighting type. I am a very open person and I prefer people (whether friends, family, SO) tell me what they actually think and feel.
- For me, no subject is taboo: religion, sexuality, politics, philosophy, history, culture... I am usually reserved about these sort of subjects given that people get really angry about them, but my friends always say they really appreciate my nuanced, humanistic and open assessment of reality. I sometimes joke that I am so open-minded that my brain sometimes falls out of my skull.
- I am admittedly on the poorer side of Swiss society given that I am dependent on social security, though I do plan to eventually start an apprenticeship in the biotech sector (I studied biology in the past).
- I have high functioning autism (in the past called Aspergers), ADHD and anxiety, though the last one rarely if ever has any impact on my life, given that I use medications for all of my conditions.
- I really like going outside, hiking, observing nature, taking pics of it, traveling... I love animals in general (be it snakes, rats, dogs) but I vastly prefer cats as pets, though I don't own any pets atm. I also like plants a lot and would love to get into gardening.

My fiancé, his brother and I filed a protection order against their sister (31)because of constant harassment and threats from her because we cut contact while her dogs were in our care. Months ago, we came to an agreement with his sister that we would help her rehome one of her dogs, while holding onto the other until she somehow finds housing and has her baby(She’s been unstable for over a year now). So we drove to Alabama to pick up the two dogs, and drove them back to Ohio. It’s important to mention that his sister is not only financially unstable but mentally unstable as well…I’ve witnessed by ear, her abusing one of the dogs over the phone, and the dogs were also homeless with her for quite some time and we have evidence that she’s tried rehoming them in the past but failed to do so. We also have evidence of her telling their mother that if nobody figured out how to help her fix her internet, she was going to “dump” her own dogs. When we agreed to take her dogs we were told that these dogs were trained and understood commands and that they loved each other. This was all false. For 3 months the dogs continued to fight each other, one of them specifically would lunge at our cats at random times, and the other dog was aggressive towards people and dogs so walking them was a nightmare. We verbalized this multiple times and asked for help to send the dogs back, make a plan for somebody to get them, anything because at this point they are now a liability. Early on we had to cut contact with his sister but communicated through their mother that we would still send photos and videos of the dogs while trying to figure out a way to give them back but she began harassing us through multiple different methods even found my mothers contact, our wedding registries, made different numbers, emails, our jobs, and harassed my friends. Even in the midst of the harassment we attempted more than once to create a plan before following through with the protection order and all she would tell us was “I’ll show up whenever I want to” or “Shut up bitch” after harassing me consistently. So at that point we followed through with the protection order and rehomed the dogs. We held out for 3 months before we rehomed the first dog, and an additional month before rehoming the other dog. We attempted to come up with a plan but only received verbal abuse & threats from his sister. When trying to communicate with his mother she would lie and say somebody was on the way when nobody was actually coming, and that was a lie that was told at least 3-4 times. We have an abundance of evidence put together from our court hearings that show, not only is she unwell but we attempted to hold out and make a plan but nobody would follow through. I think it’s important to mention, that this woman has been known to cause physical harm to her own mother, bashed holes into walls with her head(we have evidence) sent videos of her hitting herself to her mom, told her brothers and mom that she wouldn’t care if they died, but has managed to manipulate thousands of dollars out her family to the point of her mother considering to filing for bankruptcy.…. Despite that, we just tried to be helpful and it backfired hard. Are we at risk of any wrong doing? Specifically for rehoming the dogs? Sorry this is all over the place it’s been a stressful year so far…I’ve got more details on the situation if needed.

I've lived in Florida for about 5 years now; 3 years in a house. Over the last 3 years, the wife and I have made every effort to hurricane proof the house. The house has hurricane roof ties; the house is mad out of concrete block, we've added a generator with transfer switch, steel hurricane shutters, we keep water on hand, food, batteries, lights, we seal up doors with flex tape if we think its coming, etc... There's 4 adults (wife and I, and her parents) and 8 animals (4 dogs, 4 cats). Evacuating would be difficult... Where do you go? Go south and the hurricane can move south. Go north and it could go north. We're in a suburb of Clearwater so 11 miles from the gulf coast, 2.5 miles from the intercostal.
I want to build a hurricane shelter. The current plan is:

Roof - I'm going to 2x4 stud the inside of the structure. 2x6 ceiling on top of the walls inside the concrete block, half inch plywood on top and then the actual roof 4 inches of concrete (rebar and wire mesh again) and the concrete roof will sit on top of the plywood / 2x6s and concrete block walls. Studs and joists 12 inches on center. Steel door and need to figure out some kind of ventilation system.
It would be a last minute decision. If we know the hurricane is coming right for us, go in and blast some music for 3-4 hours until it passes.
I'm ok if this is over engineered. I don't want to under engineer it, nor do I want to build a concrete coffin. In my research - you want to keep wind from coming in and blowing the structure up and you want to reduce anything wind can get a hold of and rip it off. So everything will be flat 90 degree corners. Roof ends at the wall, door flush with the wall, etc... no over hangs of any kind.
I've looked at steel pre-manufactured kits for tornados and they're super expensive. I figure I can get this done < 3k
Ideas? Suggestions?

With that, it's a very valuable and sort after skin. Also worth noting about the Moon Knight, "For a quick run-down: Moon Knight is actually a former mercenary named Marc Spector. In the original scene, if you haven't watched fight club, the main protagonist has put the pieces together to realise that he himself is actually the same person as the other protagonist in the film and it was him alone that accidentally setup a sort of movement against the financial elite. In this clip DFV plays off the two characters between DFV and Roaring Kitty.
Speculation: Roaring Kitty was the twitter handle and Youtube profile for Keith Gill where he would speculate on the stock because he just loved doing it. DFV was the reddit handle where he is associated to that other sub i can't mention here but you know where i mean. I think that DFV is saying that what started as a fun speculation of the stock became something bigger than himself with his other channel in DFV on reddit. Now the wheels have moved and in the film it ends with the financial institutions being blown up, perhaps something similar metaphorically is already in place right now. It's actually a great analogy from DFV about his situation.

DFV has changed some of the narrators (Red) words in showcase his story of being wrongly accused in 2021 and having the flee out of the spotlight. He talks about pressure and time, he presents a lot of memes he has created over the years and then shows a particular screenshot of one of his streams.
Speculation: This tells DFVs story but also has some juicy parts. I think Red in this is a bit like the reddit crew (us) keeping tabs on his story but DFV is saying to escape like him it takes pressure and time (could be gamma squeeze, could be LEAPS, could be DRS, could be holding and buying, could be ALL of it) but all it takes is time and pressure. The memes he posted i wonder if some of those have found their way into various subs over the last 3 years without any of us knowing it came from DFV. The steam he screenshot has been spoken about a lot this morning but it seems to come from one of his youtube streams when GME last broke $30.

Description: This is the epic reveal in fight club and DFV has replaced a lot of the words. In the original scene, if you haven't watched fight club, the main protagonist has put the pieces together to realise that he himself is actually the same person as the other protagonist in the film and it was him alone that accidentally setup a sort of movement against the financial elite. In this clip DFV plays off the two characters between DFV and Roaring Kitty.
Speculation: Roaring Kitty was the twitter handle and Youtube profile for Keith Gill where he would speculate on the stock because he just loved doing it. DFV was the reddit handle where he is associated to that other sub i can't mention here but you know where i mean. I think that DFV is saying that what started as a fun speculation of the stock became something bigger than himself with his other channel in DFV on reddit. Now the wheels have moved and in the film it ends with the financial institutions being blown up, perhaps something similar metaphorically is already in place right now. It's actually a great analogy from DFV about his situation.

My parents rescued a dog (mixed breed, unknown) when she was orphaned one month old ~4 years ago. She was raised during the COVID lockdown in India so we did not have the opportunity to socialize her at all. It has taken some years to get her to be more curious and less anxious outside the house.
We have managed her reactivity quite well. She does not react to other dogs on the street or around the house at all now. She is more curious about strangers in the house and does not get as upset at them as she used to. She, however, also has a VERY high prey drive and will try to hunt squirrels, birds, and any other animals in her vicinity. Out of all creatures, she HATES cats the most and tries to hunt them each time she spots one. She even remembers spots she saw a cat at for months and checks every day to ensure the cat hasn't returned.
She befriends certain dogs quickly while others she will never even look at. There has not been a consistent pattern to this but she prefers strays (we live in India) over dogs that are on a leash. However, we have noticed her warming up to those as well now.
She comes to live with me whenever my parents travel, are sick, or whenever I work from home for an extended period. I love her and quite enjoy hanging out with her. There is an implicit agreement between my parents and me that after some time, she will live with me because she needs a lot of exercise and they may not be able to keep up with it as time passes.
My partner and I are considering adopting 2 cats. However, we won't do it if it means she cannot live with us in the future or visit us. She is quite smart and picks up on training easily. Can she be trained to coexist with cats?
ANY guidance on this is appreciated. We are open to working with a trainer as well.
