Still trying to get a handle on this reddit site as my previous posts seem to have disappeared for whatever reason.
For anyone who hasn't seen it before, it is my conclusion that the "final 18" utilized a Polybius Square to create the solution as "the zodiac". The letter to the San Francisco Chronicle stated "in this cipher is my identity", and the section containing the "unsolved" final 18 characters was the segment sent to the S.F. Chronicle. There are images of the Sunday Chronicle two days later which corroborate this, so don't let any site tell you otherwise; I'll take the word of the newspaper at the time over any excuse that may be offered by a site that mixed links up.
The final 18 characters "E B E O R I E T E M E T H H P I T I" caught my attention in 2014 due to "E" and "I" appearing as often as they do. I soon noticed that if paired up you have "EB EO RI ET EM ET HH PI TI" where eight of the nine pairs either begin with "E" or end with "I". "HH" is the outlier, and the hunt for the Polybius Square is on.
The following is an example of the Polybius Square, where the 26 letters of the English alphabet are arranged into a 5x5 square by combining "I" and "J" into one square:

The Polybius Square cipher is created by assigning numbers or letters to create row/column designators as follows:

To encode you message you would use the row/column letters which intersect at the letter being encoded. For example, "the zodiac" would read "DI BH AJ EJ CI AI BI AF AH". To decipher you simply reverse the process.
Let's apply this to the final 18 "EB EO RI ET EM ET HH PI TI". As mentioned above, eight of the nine pairs begin with "E" or end with "I", leaving "HH" as the outlier. "HH" as "EH" would fit the pattern, but result in a 5x6 square, while "HI" would also fit the pair and result in the 5x5 Polybius Square. I went a step further and place "E" in the middle position for row designators which resulted in the following pattern:

I have no explation yet for "ET" appearing twice, however "EI" is the one pair missing in the sequence and what would complete the cross: B O I T M ______________ R : E : H : I : E : T H Z O D : P : A : T : C "In this cipher is my identity", and his "this is the zodiac speaking" letter appears less than a week later. In his 408 letters he began simply with "this is the killer" or "this is the murderer". While I am on the Polybius Square subject, I've noticed something interesting in the Z408 misspellings. They appear to have been intentional and also present what could be another cipher based on the Polybius Square: "AS ES AI AS AS ET CS SA IW" S I T A W A . . E . . C . S . I . One of those things that causes me to go "hmmmmm".

What we are observing in the Egyptian Hieroglyphs (EH) sub, in particular, which has the most negative reaction thus far, and the and Hieroglyphics (H) sub, in similar but lesser effect theme, as compared to the EAN sub, is that both the EH and H subs have their entire alphabetic phonetics belief system anchored in the following CartoPhonetics (CP) alphabet table, the EH sub most of all, as CP theory is their bread and butter, which most of their posts are based on:

As to difficulties on theory, firstly, we can ask: where is there no mouth 𓂋 [D21] type in the Rameses cartouche, if his names starts with an R in Egyptian? Why is his name now spelled with two S letters (Ramesses) instead of one (Rameses), as Champollion has it rendered?

Firstly, we see the Young assignment of the goose 𓅬 as the /ke/ (κη) phonetic, whereas this type presently has assigned name Geb, and is the prototype to the Phoenician G (𐤂‎), which makes the /g/ phono.
Seconly, we see the letter R red 🛑 crown 𓋔 [S23], which has the 𓂅 [D15] type or letter R ram 🐏 head spiral in the crown, cited as making the /n/ phono? Next we see the mouth 𓂋 [D21] symbol, just before, assigned the / phonetic? The RED 🛑 crown 𓋔 [S23] has letter R (𓂅) in the crown, but the glyph makes the /n/ phono? Does not make sense, particularly when we now know that letter N is based on the N-bend of the Nile, and has to do with flood waters that bring the fertile black crop soil, and also that 𓂅 [D15] is a battle ram symbol, used to break down the walls of the enemy, and to spill the RED 🩸 blood of the enemy.
Knowing this, accordingly, it is unlikely that the Egyptians would have called 𓋔 [S23] the N-crown, i.e. water 💦 flood crown. Thirdly, we have already showed that the Latin word for king or Rx symbol: ℞ derives from the red crown 𓋔 [S23], thus evidencing:
  • 𓋔 [S23] = / phono; or / phono based name
and, accordingly, not the /n/ phono. This evidence thus refutes the Berneke cartouche theory, therein showing that the mouth type 𓂋 [D21] does not make the / phono.

Whence, the EH and H sub members will see the EAN-based HieroTypes in the chart for each letter, and their mind will reject most of them.
An EH or H member, e.g., will say, in their mind:
“This table is crap! Hey everyone, I'm looking for a book with a dead rabbit on the cover. It's a novel and was classified as fiction in Waterstones. The title featured the word carcass or cadaver or carrion or a similar synonym.
The last name of the author most likely starts with a letter that comes before M in the alphabet judging by its place in the store. If I remember the correctly, the blurb described it as a story of grief in which the spirit of a deceased person seems to linger on in a house in some form or another (might be supernatural, might just as well not be - it wasn't specified). There was also talk about some kind of dirt patch behind the house.

Hello everyone. I'm doing a few exercises based on Linux commands and I don't understand some of them. I've made 41 exercises of 50 and I'm having troubles with these because I don't know how to do it. Help me, please
On Linux there is a file called /usshare/dict where you can find some words used by the OS in spanish. Answer the questions
b)Words beginning with the letter A and finishing in H
c)Words using CH
For these I know It's using grep.. but not the line
d)Count every word beginning with the letter B
I must use wc .. But the command wc -b is not correct
e)Create a file name dictionary.txt where you can save everything from that dictionary but in alphabetic order
f)Create a file named random.txt where you can save everything from that dictionary but in a random way
g)Create a file named third.txt where you can save everything from that dictionary in alphabetic order but from the third character
For these 3.. I know It's using touch and then sending it to a file using <<.. but It's not working
-Ignoring upper case and lower case and in a recursive way. Search on every file .sh and .txt the chain /bin/bash or /bin/sh
With this.. I don't know what to do
-Create an alias named updater that It will do an update and a dist-upgrade without asking. How many times you can see the file tty1 in your PC?
-List every file from your current directory which name has 3 characters and the .txt extension
ls -a ??? but I don't know how to add the .txt extension
-List every file from your current directory not beginning with G or H
ls -a g* h* but this is beginning with and I want to remove them

You might think “holy shit why”, and I would agree. Ü is just silence, the glottal stop /ʔ/ is more like shaking your head up and down to make it go like a’a’a’a’a if you know what I mean, /t/ is [t̪] (because Finnish) and /a/ [ɑ] (because Finnish). The letter 🎲 is supposed to be a QR-code of Never Gonna Give You Up, but since you cant usually type images that’s the substitute. Also the person that makes a word gets to decide how 🎲 is pronounced, and it can be literally anything. The letters §, Ʒ and & are pronounced /ki/, /li/ and /et/ if they are at the beginning of words, otherwise they are pronounced /la/, /ripu/ or /yrt/. The letters ඞ and ☢️ are pronounced /amo/ and /ave/ if the last syllable ends in a consonant, or if it’s the first letter of a word. Otherwise /gus/ and /gaveg/.
Yes, base-43. The only reason this is used only because it is a very high number (but not too high so we can make words for the letters). And yes, obviously it’s a prime. I won’t tell the numbers here because it’s just boring.
I think the most “cool” feature is the “clone” pronouns. That means exactly what you think it does. If you have a clone, you can’t call them “you” or “he”, that would be ridiculous! OBVIOUSLY we need new pronouns for human- and animal clones (Just to clarify, Randomviili has human, human clone, animal, animal clone and object pronouns).
And finally, the country prefix. Again, it’s exactly what you think. A prefix based on where you’re from. If you are from Uruguay, your pronoun would be“sUarez kukel”. Kel is the pronoun “me”. (Names are handled quite strangely in Randomviili. The second letter of a word is capitalized and you add “-z ku” at the end)

It's on the Amazigh flag, it's on cave paintings, it's on ancient artifacts and most importantly, it's found in several cultures around the world from different periods of pre-history, some were separated by oceans. It's probably something to do with proto-indo-european civilizations.
I remember hearing that it had to do with something other that a male figure, but over time the original meaning was lost and someone projected a male figure on it. It's not the fascinus. If my faint memory isn't failing me, it represented human reproduction and had some metaphysical analogical association with the sun and the four seasons. The Swastika and the star of David (which is older than David) also had the same or a similar meaning. It shows either two humans sitting facing one another in sexual intercourse, and also (or) the sun. And for some reason, it also ended up in the Cyrillic alphabet as letter Ж and in the Amazigh one as letter ⵣ (yaz).
I know that I probably won't find the truth here, but I would like to at least know how its called.
Here are some artifacts and symbols that I found on the internet containing its variations. This symbol is most likely older than 20 thousand years.

As part of my evening routine, I get my five-year-old daughter Sophie ready for her bath. I bought some new soap from a farmer’s market on the other side of town claiming to make extra bubbles, and it’s pink, so I know she’ll love it. I fill the tub with warm water and pour it in. Wow, this stuff is really pink and the bubbles nearly spill out of the tub. I’m happy with my purchase, feeling like a proud mom.
I gently plop Sophie in the colorful water as she hums softly, looking up and smiling at me.
“What song are you singing, sweetie?”
“I made it up.” She says with a grin.
She used to hate taking a bath, but she’s really come around on them this year. She splashes around having fun, and I realize I should get her toys for her.
I turn away for a second to open the cabinet, grabbing some foam alphabet letters she likes. I’m glad she likes them since they’re educational as well. Gently, I fish out a rubber ducky from the cabinet for good measure, too. Turning back to face my daughter, I notice the splashing has stopped. She’s no longer in the tub.
A wave of dread washes over me. How could this happen? I just saw her in my periphery two seconds ago. She couldn’t have left my sight. I would have heard her. I’m in panic mode now, living out every mom’s worst nightmare. I call out to her, when she suddenly submerges from seemingly thin air.
What the hell?! Something is not right. She’s somehow back in the tub. Only she’s almost unrecognizable. I gasp. I can see right through her and she has a pink hue to her. How is this possible? I flail my arms, reaching out to grab her. Sophie’s skin is slippery to the touch like slime. I recoil in horror.
“Baby?”
She stares back at me with a frightened look on her face, before slipping back into depths of the tub.
“No, come back! Sophie! Baby!!”
I violently dunk my hands into the tub, reaching for her yet only grabbing bubbles. Now sobbing, I throw my hands on my head. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do. Why is this happening?
“Mommy?” she says, muffled by the water.
I let out a loud gasp.
“Baby?! Are you ok?! Mommy’s here!” I stare in sheer horror as my daughter returns to the surface. Somehow, her entire body is now made of bubbles, except for her eyes and internal organs, which now float amongst these bubbles.
“Mommy, what’s happening?!” she says, crying, though I can’t see the tears. The more she cries, the more the bubbles pop. I try my absolute hardest to console her, desperately trying to get the bubbles to stop popping.

Hello everyone,
For months now I have been trying to find out this old NES game I used to play when I was around 4 years old. I am 38 now and it was not one that I particularly played a whole bunch. The game was my aunt's who lived with my grandparents aka her parents. When she moved to a different state she took the game with her. I can provide some details and some games it is not based off my research. I cannot guarantee some of what I remember from it is even true. It wasn't one I owned so I don't have very many memories from it as opposed to games I owned.
I thought it started with a guy in a white or grey space type suit. I feel like his helmet has a point to it. At times I think it was like a left to right side scroller where you travesed in some type of car looking ship almost like how the dmc delorean looks in back to the future with it's wheels up. However, you could stop at various areas and this where it almost feels like it took on an RPG element. You could talk to shop owners or people I feel and different little cave like areas could have held some type of monster. I believe one boss was on the right side of the screen and you were on the left on the vehicle.
It was a fixed battle type where you could go up and down to the end of the screen, you could go left to the end of the screen but because the boss was on the right and took up the top and bottom from a vertical aspect. I also want to say it may have had a non commonly used letter in the American alphabet.
For some reason the letters that stick out are J, X, or Z. Now here are the games I already know it is not.

I understand the basic evolution of a writer but I’m unsure of the timeline. For context, I’ve learned that you should learn tags before throwies, throwies before pieces and so fourth. However, I don’t know when I should start putting more effort towards pieces and when I should move up the chain. Which leads me to my next question.
Just exactly HOW consistent are throw-ups? I’ve been writing my name out for about a month and a half now, seeing little differences here and there, mainly noticing my proportions and shadows always seeming a little off. I’ve experimented with all sorts of caps, cans, and pressures but I can’t find that sweet spot for consistency. I want my throwie down-pat before I move on to making pieces, coming back to write new tags and alphabets whenever I can to try and learn more about letter structure.
Lastly, is there any major tip or useful perspective to help add style to tags?

The Belarusian language has two (two and a half) scripts: Cyrillic and Latin. Both are quite phonetic, but not 100%. The main problem is the Belarusian phonological system consists of at least 44 phonemes: 5 vowels and 39 consonants. Among the consonants there are 15 pairs that differ only in palatalization (called hard vs soft consonants, the latter being represented in the IPA with the symbol ⟨ʲ⟩).
The Cyrillic alphabet solves the problem of representing such sounds by using a separate, special form for vowel sound following a consonant, or by using a special “soft sign” if the consonant is at the end of a word or before another consonant: "цень - цана". In Latin, palatization is indicated by using the letter i between a consonant and a vowel, or by using a special form of the consonant (with a diacritic): cień – cana. In both alphabets there is no separate letter for the sounds [дз] and [дж] ([dz] and [ɖ͡ʐ] in IPA, if I not mistaken).
Using the Shaw's alphabet we can map all vowels and hard consonants to symbols. To denote soft consonants, we use the hard symbol with an acute diacritic above the symbol. Thus, both "з" and both "н" in the word "зьзяньне"/"źziańnie" are written the same way. For 30 years (to my knowledge) my mother has been pining after this one man. I'll call him Adam. Adam was married with kids but was seeing my mother on the side. He would visit every so often when I was around 7 or 8 years old and he was this fun, mysterious dude who'd always bring mountains of junkfood. He would never say what his actual name was. Eventually he stopped visiting and my mother said he'd moved interstate. This was a lie. He was still visiting my mother but decided it was best to be sneaky about it.
As the years passed, I learned that he was still in the picture. I would hear them having sex, which was traumatic. What I hated the most was how it affected my mother. She never had his phone number (because he was married) so she'd wait for him to call her at any given time. She'd have whispered phone calls with him and then it'd be a coin toss of whether she was going spend the next few days being pathetically giddy or enraged. Most of the time it was enraged. It was fine for Adam, he didn't have to deal with her horrible mood. She'd bite my head off, mutter to herself, stare into space for hours all because it was yet another week or two before she and Adam could be "together forever" and she happened to say the wrong thing to him on the phone which prevented this.
Through my high school years my mother would point to the fancy new houses being built and tell me that Adam is building one just for her and we were going to be better off soon. It was always soon. Soon never happened. When I was 22, my mother told me she was done waiting for Adam. That lasted a few years until they spotted each other at a restaurant and he started calling her again. It fizzled into nothing. A few years ago my mother found out he had separated from his wife. She went and hand-delivered a love letter to his mailbox the following day. The entire time I voiced my disapproval. I hated Adam. I hated his ethics for cheating, I hated that he didn't live through the bad moods he caused, I hated how much of a hold he had over my mother's heart, I hated seeing her pain if he didn't call, visit, or keep a promise and I hated how she blamed herself for all of this. Once again, Adam did not come running to sweep my mother away, even though he was now free to do so. I held in my great big "told ya so" and cheered internally.
Fast forward a few more years and they recently bumped into each other again. This time my mother thinks it's going to happen because he's called her and they are talking again. She's told me about how they are going to travel the country. (I don't think they have discussed this) She says she is going to invite him to our family dinner night and he'll "totally show up". Based on his track record, I'm not holding my breath. She also said she wants to bring him to stay at mine and my fiances new house in the country. She knows how I feel about Adam. I tried to tell her a normal relationship should not be this hard, one-sided, or dysfunctional. She blamed herself yet again. I really deeply doubt that he's finally going to step up but if he does, I truly do not want this man in our house. I want my mother to finally be happy but WIBTA if I decide he's not welcome to visit and crush my mother in the process?
TLDR - My mother was having a on-again off-again relationship with a married man for decades. He's now single and they are reconnecting but I don't want him in our house.

After a decade removed from college and being in the workforce, working in a few different industries and meeting people from all walks of life, I wanted to share here my take on the age old question of "does where I go to undergrad matter?" I was once like many of you in this subreddit, obsessing over getting good grades, good extracurriculars, and doing my best to get into the best college I could, thinking it would "impact my entire future." The truth is, where you go to college does not matter as much as we are led to believe, but there is also an overcorrection now of "it makes absolutely 0 impact on your career outcomes." The answer is more nuanced:
For Investment Banking and Consulting, where you go to college absolutely can drastically impact your chances of getting hired, as well as getting hired by a prestigious firm. Due to how crazy competitive it is to get into investment banking and consulting due to the high salaries, and due to those industries being a bit more elitist than others, prestige does matter for these fields.
Common target schools are top 15ish schools (the ivy league, Stanford, Duke, UChicago etc). Students regardless of major will often find their way into elite boutiques and big banks (assuming they have good GPAs and/or are well connected).
Next in the tier of target schools are specific elite business programs where, while the school may not be overall ranked top 15 or so, their business schools are well regarded and students will be frequently hired into investment banks or top consulting firms. These are NYU, Notre Dame, Georgetown, UT-Austin, to name a few.
Then, the rest of the top 35 or so ranked schools are what are often called "semi-targets." Meaning investment banks and top consulting firms will stop by and will recruit from these schools, but at less high percentages and won't take "any majors" but rather focus on business/finance majors specifically. These are places like Michigan, UVA, Northwestern, Emory, WashU, Rice, etc etc.
However, keep in mind that most people are not cut out for the investment banking/consulting lifestyle. You may make a lot but you will be worked like a dog, be surrounded by elitist and toxic coworkers (drug use is very real just as depicted in movies), and it's a very high stress and high turnover job. Even at "target schools" Harvard is only sending about a few hundred max of their entire student body to investment banking per graduating class.
Now another field where going to a good college will help: Pre-med
In this case unlike investment banking it is not so much because med schools go "oh I think candidates from X Y Z bougie schools are smarter." It is more so because certain top schools, particularly those with strong medical school and research environments, give their premeds substantial opportunities and resources to build a strong premed resume.
Some of these include: Johns Hopkins, Penn, Harvard, Duke, WashU, Columbia.
All of those good universities (not an exhaustive list btw) have world-class med schools and many famous hospitals easily commutable from the school. It is easy for students to get research and shadowing opportunities at their school's med schools and this can really set them apart from other applicants at other schools who may not have access to such impressive resources. This is of course, assuming that they also do well on the MCAT (as those who are able to be admitted to these schools often are more likely to score higher).
Other than these fields though, where you go to college for undergrad really doesn't mean that much. Let's list a few examples:
Pre-Law: Unlike med school, law school is less focused on factors in your application besides your grades and your LSAT. If you do well on the LSAT you will get into a good law school, including top 13 ranked ones. If you are set on law school I recommend going to a local state school to save money and just make sure you ace the LSAT as where you go to law school will substantially affect your entire career, while where you went to college literally will mean squat.
Engineering/CS: Ok sure, I guess if you go to a very good program like MIT, Carnegie Mellon, or UIUC, it will probably help get your foot in the door more (assuming you also have good internship experience and decent grades). But otherwise, even if going to say Drexel means you may get a slightly less good starting job than someone at MIT, engineering and CS is not like IB or med school where getting your foot in the door in the first place is almost statistically impossible. Once you start working if you do a good job and/or work the social game well you can work your way up or switch to better and better jobs. Once you demonstrate you are a great engineer no one will ever care after your first job where you got your degree. You could be self-taught for all they care (esp in CS) and if you know your stuff employers will be fighting over you.
Any academic grad school: Same thing I said for law school. Do well during your undergrad with a good GPA, good relationships with profs for good rec letters, write a good thesis, and get a good GRE score. Where you went to undergrad will matter almost 0% if you have all of that. I know people who went to a local state school for undergrad and are now getting their PhDs at UChicago, Princeton, Stanford, all sorts of fancy places! Just like in law, where you get your grad degree in academia can make a significant difference on your career so I would also recommend going to a college that's cheaper (and less stressful!) over an elite college for undergrad if you know you want to go the academia route.
So yeah! Are there instances where going to a so-called "elite college" may make a difference? Yes there are. It is an overcorrection nowadays to say it never matters at all where you go to college. For certain fields and certain life goals going to Yale will certainly help tremendously. But for 95% of people (maybe 99%?) it does not matter. Pretty much unless you want to be a wall street suit, or you are dead set on med school (and even in the case of med school you can still get in without going to an elite school, it will just be a little harder) going to an elite college for undergrad is otherwise just a very expensive bragging right. A bragging right too that 99% of people won't care about once you graduate and if you bring it up it'll just make you look like a snobby douchebag.

Disclaimer: I am absolutely NOT trying to brag in any way. I come from a small, isolated school with unmotivated students so I genuinely have no idea what other students like me are doing (apart from the students on this thread). I truly just would like some advice. Thanks!
Before judging harshly, read everything I have to say. I promise I'm not trying to be like the people who post the "am I cooked" posts, I swear.
Also I tried my best to format this so that it's easy to read.
My first attempt at this type of post failed, so I'm hoping to get better advice.
Background: rising junior, white, female, pretty high income (parents don't like sharing that information), rural-ish high school, NOT a feeder school, dual citizenship (Italy and U.S.), I speak Italian at home
GPA: 4.0 uw (don't know what my weighted GPA is). It's a 4.0 but my school has intense grade inflation so I actually haven't gotten absolutely perfect grades.
PSAT10: 1370 out of 1520 (730 Reading and 640 Math) (planning on taking the SAT next year)
Advanced Courses: my school only offers 2 APs, so I took both this year (AP World History and AP CSP), I also self studied for two exams (AP Italian and AP Spanish Lang), I'm doing the full IB program for the next two years
Extracurriculars (First two are in order, the rest are kind of just there): (I'm going to give enough information but also keep it vague because I feel weird sharing a lot on the internet like this).

History teacher: she taught me my freshman year and this year and she's the organizer for the Spanish Teaching assistant extracurricular. She also likes me but I don't have a particularly special connection to her. maybe a 6/10
Advisor: I have an advisory teacher who I really like because he seems my potential but I also think he's kind of scary and don't have a personal connection with him. He's super nice but he's also never been my teacher before. He always says that other teachers are impressed by my ability to handle sports and schoolwork but a lot of my classmates do that so idk maybe 8/10?
Another detail I forgot to mention is that my mom was born in Italy and my dad was born in France (idk if that affects anything). My mom attended college in Italy but my dad went to college in the U.S.

Hi, I'm part of NC, small neighborhood with ~100 homes. I'm wanting to have a metal letter which is the first letter in all our family' names, to be hung in front of the home. It will be approx 2' x 2' and just one of the alphabet.
I'm not sure what rules will it fall under? It is not a yard sign, and it is not a religious or holiday decoration; so what is it classified as?
I'm not putting in the door, as my door is black and several feet inside a short walkway, so door isn't visible. I want to put it in middle of the external the wall.
