2024.05.15 10:20 Asangawi Seeking Feedback for My Debut Fantasy Novel: "The Last Stand of Light: Awakening of Destiny

Hello fellow writers,
I'm excited to share that I've just published my first fantasy novel, "The Last Stand of Light: Awakening of Destiny," and I'm seeking your valuable feedback. As we all know, constructive criticism is crucial for growth, especially from peers who understand the intricacies of storytelling.
"The Last Stand of Light" transports readers to the enchanted world of Thyrendor, where magic pulses through every crevice of the land. A prophecy, foretelling the rise of a young hero named Ewan Thornhart destined to overthrow the ancient dark ruler Xyranth, sets the stage for this tale. Raised in ignorance of his destiny, Ewan's journey begins as dark forces gather, threatening to fulfill their grim dominion over Thyrendor.
As someone stepping into the world of fantasy writing, I am eager to hear your thoughts on the plot development, character arcs, and my treatment of the magical elements. Any insights into how I could enhance the depth and engagement of the narrative would be greatly appreciated.
The book is available for free on Amazon today, and here is the link to download your copy: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3VFSNK5]
Thank you so much for your time and assistance. I look forward to your honest and constructive feedback, and I'm keen to engage in discussions that could help refine my craft and contribute to this vibrant community.
Happy reading and writing!

2024.05.15 09:49 Lp1-is-holy Anyone got any recommendations for this load order?

So right now I am playing through Fo4 again, on PS5 this time, and decided to role play because I am an adult now. Right now I have the following load order, does anyone have recommendations on the order itself, any additions (I am constantly adding, but I started another new play-through because needing x5 damage for a raider with the same armor as the next is dumb imo.) I will number the order and add my explanations in parentheses. Feel free to comment or DM any responses, I’m open to improving my game!
Here is the load order I have:
  1. Unoff. Patch (Helps the game ofc)
  2. Arm. And Wep. Keywords (Req. for UCO)
  3. USO Base Game (more base building options)
  4. UCO Base Game (more clothing)
  5. Quick Start (Damn the family, I’m a Marine)
  6. The Commonwealth Minutemen Arm. (I felt like the Minutemen could use a “buff” bc Democracy, and aside from my issues with Preston’s dumb self)
  7. [PS4] STS (I hate Bethesda “bushes”)
  8. Sandman’s Power Gen. Tweaks (slight tweak to power output on gen.s)
  9. c6k - More Scrap from Junk (simple help when actually building and not needing a cheat room for materials)
  10. See-Through-Scopes (better x2.5 and x4 reflex sights)
  11. UCO Season Pass (DLC additions to UCO)
  12. USO Season Pass (DLC additions to USO
  13. [PS4] Simple Settlers (makes everyone a named person and changed outfits)
  14. All Settlements Extended (more horizontal room for building)
  15. Minuteman Watchtowers (200 years passed, shouldn’t there be some sort of militaristic remnant other than pre-war?)
  16. [PS4] Realistic Gore and Dismemberment (shooting off someone’s arms and watching them run has never been more fun, but the keep attacking until dead so not OP)
  17. Choose Your Own Perks (lets me craft “starter” armors and weapons, while “level-restricting” myself to late game crafting)
  18. 1st Person Animation Tweaks (weapon down when not firing)
  19. Apocalyptic Fallout Baby (omg this makes this game so different. Tbf, I haven’t even played an hour with it, but I highly recommend.)
  20. Pip-Boy Flashlight (Brighter) (My only issue is that the light effect is a screen effect, so it is radial to your screen rather than connected to your pip-boy. Definitely recommended for horror effect/darkening mods)
  21. [PS4/5] USO Next Gen Compatibility Patch (from author of USO/UCO, rec. at bottom of load order)
  22. Enhanced Lights and FX (I adding this and Apoc. Fall. Baby at the same time, so I am unsure which has the most effect, but this heavily increases the darkness in unlit areas so that the flashlight mod can shine)
Apologies for the eye-sore if you made it this far, but I really do recommend these mods for a totally different Fo4 experience on PS5. Not sure if my PS4 can handle it lol!

2024.05.15 09:19 thisvideoiswrong Quick Looks 3: Vo'Quv Carrier

By my count, there are 15 T5 ships available for just dilithium or a level 40 token, which someone might want a starter build for to help them finish off the episode missions and start the reputation grind. My Strict Budget Build covers the three science vessels, the Baby Step series covers the three cruisers with tactical ensigns, Quick Looks 1 and 2 cover the Hegh'ta Bird of Prey and the Jem'hadar Escort, and there's definitely an argument to be made that some are just bad choices. But there was one more I wanted to take a look at here. This series will not be as thoroughly researched as those previous series, and it will not feature optimized skill builds (there are many resources for that), but the builds will be proven in the Badlands Battlezone and in solo Defense of Starbase One Advanced, as well as extensively parsed in the Wanted (Argala System) patrol with comparisons to similar builds. That should adequately demonstrate that they can get you whatever reputation marks you need, using only mission, basic (generally Mk XII uncommon) Exchange, and Phoenix Store items. Each build will be allowed one Mk XV item to maintain parity with the Strict Budget Build, usually a forward weapon. It's also easy enough to put these together that I could be persuaded to do more if there's a ship that deserves it.
So, why the Vo'Quv? Well it's in the name, it's a carrier. Hangar bays are expensive to boost in this game, but that means they have to be balanced to have pretty good base damage. In this case the two hangars did more than half the damage of most of the other builds in this series with hardly any support for them. The downside to carriers is that they often sacrifice a lot for those hangars. Not so for Flight Deck Carriers, which are pretty much full cruisers, or any of the single hangar types, but the science carriers like the Vo'Quv don't really have an obvious path to getting ship damage, especially on this budget. Their turn rate is terrible, which is a problem for most things, they have only 6 weapons so getting a lot from energy weapons is out, and they don't have a secondary deflector, which did do more on my science vessel build than the hangars did here.
So where did I end up, then? Well, with 6 science ability slots and not a ton of options I couldn't see not using them for some direct exotic damage. And since that required me to face forward, and the turn rate was terrible and I couldn't do much about it, I concluded that I'd have to use turrets in the rear with either beam arrays or single cannons forward, the two widest arc weapon combinations possible apart from pure turrets, although their damage potential is limited. The Chronometric set also seemed like a must have, providing a large amount of EPG and some Polaron cat1 from the tac console, and a bit of aux power from the 2 piece, but I wasn't sure whether I'd want the Morphogenic set or not, since it would mean sacrificing a cannon. Then, I went to the TRINITY DPS Calculator from STO BETTER and started plugging in some rough options. Single cannons outperformed beam arrays even with the Chronometric 3 piece, so that settled that, and getting the crtd from the Morphogenic 3 piece and Cannon Scatter Volley was well worth losing a forward cannon for the torp. Attack Pattern Beta proved a bigger contributor than expected thanks to boosting the exotic damage as well, which is why that's at 2 and CSV is at 1, and easily outperformed including a Torpedo Spread as well. Finally I switched the power settings away from a balanced configuration toward weapons over aux and aux over weapons, and the high aux version did best. So that was the build.
How did it perform? Well it was sluggish, obviously, I expected that. But the DPS was pretty impressive and was reflected in how quickly it got kills. And the survivability was pretty good, with a lot of hull and pretty good healing I really couldn't complain, except that it was so sluggish it was hard to run out of range and heal if I needed to. On the other hand when I did withdraw the fighters kept fighting, contributing to the highest Wanted Elite DPS of any of the builds in the table with only one attempt needed to survive the whole mission (the science vessel could do better by charging in and dying a couple of times, but needed to play cautiously and sacrifice its CPB to survive). They were even powerful enough to handle the Birds of Prey in Starbase One Advanced without any help from the mothership, potentially even without player input, which could be convenient.

Captain Details

Captain Name  Stilt
Captain Career  Science
Captain Faction  Federation
Captain Race  Vulcan
Primary Specialization  Temporal  The best specialization for exotic builds, as well as for ground builds and a good generalist option, it provides debuffs, damage boosts, EPG, and survivability

Space Skill Tree

Rank  Engineering    Science    Tactical
Lieutenant    Advanced Hull Capacity      Advanced Energy Weapon Training  Advanced Projectile Weapon Training

24 (Ultimate)      Focused Frenzy
25 (1st Ultimate Enhancer)      Frenzied Assault
26 (2nd Ultimate Enhancer)      Team Frenzy
This skill tree is my generalist one from Strict Budget Build part 2, and it pretty much needs to be. This build relies on both energy weapon and exotic damage, so it can't afford to neglect either one. There are other generalist skill trees, of course, but that is what you'll need to be looking for, any single purpose tree isn't going to get the job done.

Ship Loadout: Vo'Quv Carrier

Slot  Item  Notes
Fore Weapon 1  Polaron Cannon  The one Mk XV, single cannons are usually a poor choice, but they will outperform beam arrays forward/turrets aft and provide 180 degrees of firing arc
Fore Weapon 2  Polaron Cannon  The Vo'Quv suffers from terrible turn rate so it doesn't want weapons with narrow arcs, but it needs to face forward for the exotic damage
Fore Weapon 3  Morphogenic Polaron Energy Torpedo Launcher   Here for the 3 piece set bonus providing 30% crtd to the whole ship

Aft Weapon 1  Heavy Chronometric Polaron Turret  Mostly need a turret, 2 piece provides some aux
Aft Weapon 2  Morphogenic Polaron Energy Weapon   Another turret, and contributes to the 3 piece
Aft Weapon 3  Polaron Turret  Just a turret

Deflector  Solanae Deflector Array Mk XII Very Rare  Provides more EPG out of the box than any other mission reward
Impulse Engines  Sol Defense Impulse Engines Mk XII Very Rare  With the bonus from getting hit this does just provide the best total turn rate out of the mission rewards at 14.7 degrees/s, replace with Fortified Competitive rep engines
Warp Core  Obelisk Subspace Rift Warp Core  This build only hits 122 aux so this doesn't actually help, could consider Deuterium-Stabilized but the benefit is minimal
Shields  Sol Defense Covariant Shield Array Mk XII Very Rare  2 piece is nice for survivability, alternative would be Jem'Hadar 2 piece for a bit of Polaron cat1.

Devices  Exotic Particle Flood  Crafted in Science R&D. I do have to admit that the materials are a little hard to come by, and Admiralty (with account unlocked ships) is the best source I've found.
Deuterium Surplus  Evasive Maneuvers in battery form, and you can collect 4 per day from the Alhena system.
Delta Alliance Reinforcements Beacon  Handy damage boost

3 Engineering Consoles  Console - Engineering - Trellium-D Plating Mk XII Very Rare  Good survivability console, could use a Neutronium instead
Console - Engineering - Polaric Modulator Mk XII Very Rare  Boosts Inertia, which is rare, as well as turn rate, and slipstream turn rate at warp
Console - Engineering - House Martok Defensive Configuration Mk XII Very Rare  Boosts turn rate and provides some survivability, an RCS would work too

4 Science Consoles  Console - Science - Temporal Disentanglement Suite Mk XII Very Rare  Nice crit and durability boost, plus some power.
Console - Science - Temporally Shielded Datacore Mk XII Very Rare  Slightly less EPG than Particle Generators but it makes up for it with the CtrlX
Console - Science - Particle Generator Mk XII Uncommon  Just need EPG
Console - Science - Particle Generator Mk XII Common

2 Tactical Consoles  Console - Tactical - Morphogenic Matrix Controller Mk XII Very Rare  For the 3 piece and some polaron cat1
Console - Tactical - Chronometric Capacitor Mk XII Very Rare  Good EPG, some aux from the 2 piece, and some Polaron cat1, and this build uses all of it

2 Hangar Bays  Hangar - To'Duj Fighters  These provide more DPS than any other hangar that's available by default, and they come with the ship, they will die in heavy AoE content, otherwise use two
Hangar - Delta Flyers  These have slightly less DPS than To'duj but almost never die in any content, but do require a level 65 KDF character for Cross Faction Flying. Could substitute B'rels for more DPS loss

Officer Details

Lt. Commander Tactical  Tactical Team I  Shield distribution and debuff clear, may cause firing cycle problems but I haven't seen it
Cannon: Scatter Volley I  Excellent weapon damage buff and also spreads APB to up to 3 targets
Attack Pattern Beta II  Unusual to slot this above the firing mode, but it boosts every damage source and weapon damage is only ~1/4 of the total

Lt. Commander Engineering  Emergency Power to Engines I  More than doubles speed and provides +2 turn rate, essential mobility for any build
Auxiliary to Structural I  Excellent heal and damage resist, and on a very short cooldown
Emergency Power to Weapons III  Major energy weapon damage boost

Commander Science  Hazard Emitters I  Good hull heal and debuff clear

Now, let's talk keybinds. In STO on PC you're going to want to learn keybinding eventually, and most of it's not too hard and can be done through the chat window (although it is arguably better to create a separate text file with your binds, that's more complicated). The first thing I always do is to set up a secondary fire weapons button through settings, usually V, just in case I screw up and my intended fire keybind doesn't work. While I'm there I usually set Distribute Shields to Left Shift, it's a pretty good survivability boost, although a lot of people do say it can mess up firing cycles, but personally I've never noticed a problem. Then, the commands you'll want to know are "FirePhasers" or "FireAll", "+power_exec Distribute_Shields", and "+TrayExecByTray # #", where # is a number. Note that the list of commands needs quotation marks around it, and commands should be separated by "$$". So if you typed the following into the chat: /bind y "+TrayExecByTray 0 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 0 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 1 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 1 3" That would create a keybind so that y would activate the first and second abilities in the row labeled 1, and the third and fourth abilities in the row labeled 2 (0 in a keybind means 1 in the UI, 1 means 2, 2 means 3, etc., that's just how it works), starting with the fourth ability in 2 and then proceeding backwards. From there on in it's personal preference, put things where they feel natural to you, where you're used to them being. What I use has evolved naturally over time, I make no claims that it's efficient, just that I'm used to it, and I use it on everything. For fire weapons, distribute shields, Emergency Power abilities, cooldown reduction, often Aux to Structural, and anything else I just want to keep active I use spacebar, like this: /bind space "FireAll $$ +power_exec Distribute_Shields $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 3 $$ +TrayExecByTray 6 4" That's the first 5 slots in row 7, which is usually enough. Then for my firing modes, Attack Pattern Beta, and so on, things with short cooldowns I activate as I attack, I use the 7 key, no good reason for that it just happened, and the first 4 slots in row 3: /bind 7 "+TrayExecByTray 2 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 3" And finally for my exotic builds I always put Gravity Well and Destabilizing Resonance beam on 2, using the next two slots in row 3, although it is true that the usual logic behind that doesn't apply here, I just did it out of habit: /bind 2 "+TrayExecByTray 2 4 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 5" That's all the keybinds I use, everything else I activate manually, one at a time, but it does compress 13 keys I might want to be pressing down to 3, which helps a lot.
Now, the difficult thing about this build is that I really don't know how to suggest upgrading it, apart from the obvious necessity of some Competitive Reputation engines to get their Overcharge to improve turn rate, I made sure to use Aux to Structural to pair with the Fortified version of those. The damage is very divided between different types, with about 40% from hangars, 25% from exotics, and 21% from energy weapons, and it's not getting a lot out of any of them, but I'll provide my own ideas and the STO BETTER Basics links for all three. Currently the biggest damage source is the hangars, but trying to improve those would be expensive. Ideally you'd like to pick up Superior Area Denial from the Mirror Strike Wing Escort lockbox ship, or at least the Independent Wingmate space trait, but those are very expensive compared to this build. Even the more minor and less powerful Advanced Engineering – Hangar Craft Power Transmission consoles are starting at 1 million energy credits each on PC for either a Mk XII with a useless mod or a Mk II with an [EPG] mod, or 5 million for a Mk II with [Polaron], while Swarmer Matrix is going for 7 million. If you wanted to work on exotic damage you could of course pick up the Temporal reputation two piece, and then you might want Subspace Vortex or Very Cold in Space to replace the heals with some more damage, but those will cost you 9 million each, and really you'd want to pair them with Spore Infused Anomalies from the Somerville or Batlh C-store ships for a truly potent source of exotic damage. You might be able to get good exotic damage out of the Gravimetric Photon and Particle Emission Plasma torpedoes after picking up the Competitive engines, and those aren't as expensive, but they do give you a much narrower arc. And if you wanted to improve the energy weapons, of course there are reputation items you can pick up starting with the Discovery reputation shield, but you're pretty limited by the combination of poor turn rate and forward firing exotics. You could try to switch to dual (heavy) cannons, probably moving the torpedo to the rear and dropping the plain turret, but I don't think I'm a good enough pilot to pull that off even with Competitive engines, which would leave you with single cannons which have underwhelming base damage and very few set items to support them. I just don't know what direction to go in to make a really impactful improvement in this build.
Finally, here's the table of DPS testing in the Wanted patrol for all five equivalent budget builds. The Luna used the original, unaltered Strict Budget Build, using the mentioned swap of Emergency Power to Shields instead of Aux to Structural for better survivability against non-Borg. The Vor'cha sat somewhere between parts one and two of the Baby Step series, meaning it had exactly the same consoles as the Hegh'ta BoP and similar ones to the Jem Escort, and the beam equivalents of the phaser weapons, with exactly the abilities and personal traits in the Baby Step posts. It must also be said that the Vor'cha and Vo'quv were the only builds to never die on elite difficulty, and the Vor'cha was definitely the toughest, although all the builds took about 20 minutes to get through the mission so using them at that difficulty is a bad idea. The Hegh'ta of course used the Quick Looks 1 build, and the Jem Escort used the Quick Looks 2 build.
Elite (DPS thousands) Advanced 1 (DPS thousands) Advanced 2 Advanced 3 Advanced 4 Advanced Average
Hegh'ta Heavy BoP 20.0 20.1 21.5 22.5 23.2 21.8
Jem'hadar Escort 19.3 23.4 20.6 21.8 19.7 21.4
Vo'quV Carrier 27.3 26.3 28.2 26.6 25.2 26.6
Luna Science Vessel 24.8 31.4 28.3 27.9 27.0 28.6

2024.05.15 09:19 Asangawi Seeking Feedback for My Fantasy Novel: "The Last Stand of Light: Awakening of Destiny"

2024.05.15 09:18 Practical_Hat8489 Is Arcane Trickster overshined with Eldritch Knight in what it's supposed to do when not for main char?

Hello! Making a party, and we all know perfect optimisation overkills everything and everyone and you only need one optimised carry to be able to flavour the rest of the party as much as you want. So.
I've started to make Astarion into Arcane Trickster with the specific playstyle in mind -- use some bow, arrow of many targets, strange conduit ring and braindrain gloves plus boots of the stormy clamour to passively debuff all saves on the enemies while doing damage and sneak attack damage.
Then with the help of magical ambush, maybe acuity helm and band of the mystic scoundrel (name of the ring sounds like it's his ring) start using control scrolls every now and then. Perfectly fits the Astarion way of doing things -- he's cunning, prefers sneak tricks, but searches for arcane power, and is not a stranger to gain it through learning -- he wants the book and if given, reads it frequently in the camp. Sounds like he would definitely be a scroll user.
And then I suddenly realised that from mechanical point of view, it's strictly inferior to Eldritch Knight in everything it tries to do. I can literally maintain the same playstyle, except cunning actions and be just better in it: use illusion and enchantment scrolls from bonus action while giving both enemies disadvantage and acuity stacks, it's even a better disadvantage cause it also will apply to coatings and weapon passive effects like Harold or Banshee, but have extra attack, not even speaking of improved extra attack. Constitution proficiency to keep concentration on said control spells. Shield proficiency and medium (and heavy but it's a dex build) proficiency. Archery fighting style.
I don't mind flavouring, but it sounds like it's just becoming worse in everything for flavour. Seriously only cunning actions are lost. Of course, also skill access, expertise and reliable talent, but doesn't it only really matters on a player character?
Please, convince me into arcane tricker if there's a thing to say in his favour. At the moment the only thing I find is that Eldritch knight's three attacks will once again make acuity helmet imbalanced, while playing arcane trickster looks like the most legit and intended way of using acuity helm + mystical band combo (except you can either use magical ambush, or use the band, not both).
If it would be main char, I wouldn't hesitate, but all those skills are basically wasted and convincing myself into just making things strictly worse is hard. But I'm somewhat against playing an imbalanced archer another time, hence making this post.

British army tries israeli
The British ground forces have started to receive and deploy the previously ordered "smart sights" for light weapons, produced by the Israeli company SmartShooter. With the aid of these devices, they will enhance the accuracy and overall shooting efficiency of existing automatic rifles. The primary task of the new sights will be to combat drones and small unmanned aircraft.

2024.05.15 08:10 eagle2120 [Very Long] Marathon, Angela, and Eragon Connections. Fractalverse and Murtagh Spoilers

I've been meaning to make this post for a while but life kept getting in the way.
There is a bunch of new (well, new to me) stuff I've discovered over the last few weeks, and wanted to share my thoughts with you.
Let's start with the "prequel" (although never canonically confirmed) to the Marathon series was a game called Pathways to Darkness. The backstory for this game is:
Sixty-four million years ago, a large extra-terrestrial object struck the Earth in what would later be called the Yucatan Peninsula, in south eastern Mexico. The dust and rock thrown up by the resulting explosion caused enormous climactic changes in the ensuing years, and many of the Earth's species became extinct during the long winter that followed.
The object itself was buried thousands of feet below ground, its nearly two kilometer length remarkably intact. It remained there, motionless, for thousands of years before it finally began to stir-- and to dream.
Hmm. Buried below ground. Finally beginning to stir and dream. Who does that sound like?
Let's keep going.
The heat of impact liquefied the rock around it, which later cooled and encased the dead god's huge body far below ground. As it began to dream, it wrought unintentional changes in its environment. Locked deep beneath the Earth, strange and unbelievable things faded in and out of reality. Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
As it began to dream, it wrought unintentional changes in its environment.. Locked deep beneath the Earth, strange and unbelievable things faded in and out of reality.
Like Fingerrats? Or like Spider-wolves?
Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
Caverns and landscapes. I want to expand this point here for a bit because it's also mirrored across Alagaesia.
Let's start with Helgrind.
For any FV enjoyers, I've previously speculated that Helgrind is a reliquary, or a previously living being that was transformed (a la Ctein).
But the curious thing here is the timeline of Helgrind and it's tunnel system, taken with the above context.
Q: Assuming it wasn't built by the Ra'zac themselves, was the lair inside Helgrind purpose-built for the Ra'zac and Lethrblaka, or did they appropriate it some time after it was built? If it wasn't built for them, what was its original purpose?
A: Partially natural formations (linked to tunnels elsewhere in Alagaësia), partly expanded by the priests of Helgrind and Galbatorix himself.
But... The Ra'Zac didn't inhabit Helgrind until at least after the Humans came over. So these tunnels underneath Helgrind existed before the Ra'Zac, or Galbatorix ever set foot on Alagaesia. Which, I don't know about you, but a massive network of tunnels does not smell entirely natural to me.
So.. where else are there "natural" formations that link to other tunnels elsewhere in Alagaesia?
We've seen these "natural" formations in Vroengard:
Q: The deeps under Vroengard, were they created by the riders or was it a previous system of caverns that they repurposed?
A: Previous system. I mean, there's been work done on them, but... 'It looks similar, parts of it feel similar to the caverns that we encountered in this book. They both have that hole in the cave which goes deeper, with something in the hole that's not clearly defined.' Yeah.
And we've seen similar depictions in the Beors, and Nal Gorgoth. So from the Beors to Vroengard, "natural" tunnels exist underground. I don't buy that they are entirely natural.
Given the context of the Marathon game above:
Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
I think these tunnels came from Azlagur.
Let's switch gears here, I want to talk about another archaeological mystery in the world of Eragon - El-Harim.
I believe El-Harim was heavily influenced by the (not canon confirmed, but implied) prequel to the Marathon games, the Pathways into Darkness
Pathways casts the player as a member of a US Army Special Forces team sent on a mission to the Yucatán Peninsula. On May 5, 1994, a diplomat from the alien race known as the Jjaro appeared to the President of the United States and informed him that on May 13, an ancient godlike being sleeping beneath a pyramid would awaken and destroy the Earth. The only way to prevent this catastrophe is to prevent the god from awakening. The eight-man Special Forces team carries a nuclear weapon, with the goal of entering the ancient pyramid, descending to the bottom level where the god sleeps, and activating the bomb to stun the god and bury it under tons of rock.
Getting into a bit more of the backstory:
Only during the last few centuries has the god begun to effect changes on the surface of the Earth. Grotesque creatures have been sighted deep in the trackless forest of the Yucatan, and strange rumors of an ancient pyramid-- which is neither Aztec nor Mayan-- in the same area have been circulating in the archaeological community since the early 1930's.
Pyramid, eh? There are two different options here I can think of that equate.
The extended FWW Map
First, in the extended map from FWW, we can see a Pyramid-esque shape - Different color, different slope, etc.
Or, second (and probably more likely), it could be El-Harim:
It is a very bad place. It’s a place where some bad things happened at one point and it’s not a good place to go walking around. I don’t want to get into it too much more because again, it’s a good possibility for another story and I want to keep thinking about it a bit more. It is in Alagaesia and we’ve actually been close to the location.
Many speculate that the below vision from Eragon in Brisingr, which was never explained in the main cycle, is of El-Harim:
And he rested, and visions beset him of a circular stone city that stood in the center of an endless plain and of a small girl who wandered among the narrow, winding alleys within and who sang a haunting melody (A Feast with Friends, Brisingr).
If this vision IS El-Harim , it's super significant because of these two descriptors:
circular stone city
narrow, winding alleys
Fractals. The city itself is a fractal, like Nidus for any FV enjoyers.
The narrow winding alleys are significant because of the descriptors of the Vanished/Grey folk:
The spaces between the structures were narrower than the humans preferred; the proportions were taller, thinner, which matched the images she had seed of the Vanished...
The ancient outline of the city was - as she suspected - a fractal, and the shape of it contained meaning.... At the nexus of the apttern, where it coiled in on itslef like a nautilus shell" (Shards, TSIASOS).
Narrow. Circular (Nautilus shell). Winding. Fractal.
Whatever this city is, El-Harim or otherwise, it is/was a grey folk/vanished city.
And given the quotes from above - "Its a place where some bad things happened at one point", and "dangerous, creeping, ancient, evil thing" - My guess is that the event that caused the Grey Folk to bind the AL to magic happened here, in El-Harim.
Alright, moving along.
Let's talk about the Az and the God. There are a few parallels I've talked around, but the BIG link between the two are Dreams. This is especially important because of the release of the world map recently.
We are the devotees of Azlagur, the Devourer. Azlagur the Firstborn. Azlagur the Dreamer. He who sleeps and whose sleeping mind weaves the warp and weft of the waking world. But the sleep grows restless" (Obliteration, Murtagh).
Versus
As it began to dream, it wrought unintentional changes in its environment. Locked deep beneath the Earth, strange and unbelievable things faded in and out of reality. Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
I could write a whole post about the parallels between the two and their linkage to dreams, but I'll cut it short here for now to save room to dig in to other areas. Specifically, the Dreams connection is especially important because of the relase of the world map recently - I have another post here that gets into more detail, but the translations from the World Map in the middle translate to:
where dreams and dragons dwell
Dreams (!) and Dragons.
Combine that with the Etymology of the words:
Alagaësia ala = land gaësia = rich/fertile
Alalëa ala = land lëa = a beautiful dream
Elëa = the dream itself
So the planet, named Elea, translates to "The Dream Itself". Very interesting.
This is even more significant when you take into account this tweet chain from Chris, a bit earlier in March
Darn it. Just invented a name in the ancient language. Googled it to make sure no one else had used it ... only to discover that I had used it in an earlier book. Lol.
Can we ask what name?
Edurna
I believe the name was a potential candidate for the name of the planet of Alagaesia, which is important because of the etymology of THAT name (All credit to Zora for digging this one up).
Edurna sounds awfully like Adurna and Edur
Adurna meaning water and Edur being a prominence
Prominence. And Water. You know what that sounds like to me? Plaintive Verge. Just food for thought.
Second-to-last Az connection I want to cover: Hunger.
Whirling darkness swallowed him, and at the center of it... lay a formless horror - ancient and evil and from which emanated a constant merciless hunger (Dreams and Portents).
Versus a quote about the cosmic entity in Marathon:
Now I fear what that weapon has unleashed will destroy us. I once boasted to be able to count the atoms in a cloud, to understand them all, predict them, and so did I predict you, but this new chaos is entirely terrible, mindless, obeying rules that I don't comprehend. And it is hungry.
Now, the last piece of Azlagur-related lore I want to cover here is the "Black Sun".
In all of the visions, a Black Sun precipitates Azlagur's rise.
"A black sun rimmed by black flame hung against a darkling sky... The beast rose rampant against the black sun - A wingless dragon, apocalyptic in size, terrifying in presence. Destroyer of hope, eater of light"
Before getting into the Black Sun a bit more, there's an additional connection here I want to touch on - usage of the word rampant in connection with Azlagur.
In Marathon, Rampancy is the enhanced self-awareness of a computer AI, causing a progression towards greater mental abilities and destructive impulses. The destructive impulses, however, are primarily caused by being threatened or harassed. There are three main stages, as well as a fourth and final stage that is rarely achieved, to rampancy, named by the primary attitude of the AI during those times: Melancholia, Anger, Jealousy, and Meta-Stability.
There are some overlaps with what we see from the Maw.
And Melancholia.. that's an interesting word. Especially when taken into context the meaning of the name:
A melancholy dream of great beauty.
Melancholy.. Dream... The pieces of the puzzle are coming together. And Rampant...
Chris also uses that exact same verbiage when discussing a deleted scene from TSIASOS:
Q: I just finished reading To Sleep in a Sea of Stars and I have to know: it sounds like the Wranaui fought the corrupted during the Sundering but if that's true and it happened almost 300 years prior.... Who created the old corrupted? I've been questioning this for days!
A: That was actually in material cut by editors (some of the dream memories). Another Seed/Idealis was damaged and, when the Old Ones tried to separate it from its host, the xeno went rampant.
The xeno went rampant. Very interesting.
Alrighty, I keep getting distracted, back to the black sun.
The reason the Black Sun is important is because it always precipitates Azlagur's rise, throughout several of Murtahgh's visions. In each of them, there is a Black sun.
So, by this, we can extrapolate that the sun needs to be Black in order for Azlagur to rise (which is hinted at at the "Day of Black Sun" celebrations near the end of the book).
But... what does it actually mean?
There is a parallel in Marathon, their weapon:
The trih xeem (also "tri xeem") is an extremely powerful weapon that can be used to force a star into early nova... it was originally conceived and built by the Jjaro [The Old Ones/Vanished equivalent]. Much of the Marathon Infinity story revolves around preventing the Pfhor from using the tri xeem and inadvertently releasing a W'rkncacnter that is supposedly trapped within the Lh'owon sun.
So, the story of the last Marathon games revolves around preventing the usage of the weapon to release the cosmic-level baddie trapped in the sun. So, effectively, the antagonist is imprisoned by the sun.
But.. how does that translate to Azlagur and Murtagh?
The Black Sun requirement for Azlagur's rise could be construed as "imprisonment" by the sun; Azlagur cannot escape until the sun is turned Black. But it only really starts to come together when you piece together these pictures.
First, early concept art for the Fractalverse
You see the black orb, heading directly for the glowing star? Sounds pretty similar.
But that's not the smoking gun; look at the depiction of the black orb in the concept art, and compare it to the trih xeem, the weapon in Marathon.
A black orb with a trail heading directly for the sun. Almost an exact match.
OK.. so I get that it has some relevence in fractalverse, but how does it translate to Eragon?
Well, because of the Beors. Specifically, a picture CHRIS HIMSELF posted about the Beors.
Here
I propose that THIS black orb, at the top of the Beors (which, suspiciously, no one has traveled to) houses the black weapon. After all, the depiction is quite similar - A large, circular, black orb. Looks pretty similar to the other pictures.
And given the above context that Azlagur can only rise with a "Black Sun", the pieces all start to fit together. It's not perfect, but there are definitely a lot of overlaps.
Alright. I've been waiting for this one. The last piece. Let's talk about Angela.
Q: Will we get Angela lore? I feel like she could have killed Galbatorix and just didn't feel like it.
A: For those who don't know Angela is based on my sister Angela, because she breaks the fourth wall to a degree she has. Not only does she have plot armor, she knows she's in a story and can break the story itself. So, yes, she could have killed Galbatorix, but that would have made for a very bad story. That said, I do have an entire book planned around Angela, and it's very high on my list of books to write because it takes place before some of these other big stories I want to write. And that's also the difficult thing. I have my big storylines, and then I have a couple of one off side books I want to write, and it's just a question of time, energy and effort.
She knows she's in a story, and she can break the story.
Based on that, and several other descriptions I will get into in a bit, I think her story is directly related to the Marathon Infinity game.
Marathon Infinity begins as the Pfhor destroy Lh'owon using a Jjaro-derived doomsday weapon known as the Trih Xeem or "early nova". Unfortunately, the weapon also releases a powerful chaotic being: The W’rkncacnter, which threatens to destroy the entire galaxy. Because of the W’rkncacnter's chaos or by means of some Jjaro tech of his own, the player is transported back and forward in time, finding himself jumping between timelines and fighting for various sides in a desperate attempt to prevent the chaotic being's release.
and
In Marathon Infinity, a W'rkncacnter is imprisoned in the sun of planet Lh'owon. It is theorized by some that the W'rkncacnter's powerfully chaotic nature may be responsible for the jumps between realities seen in the game. When the Pfhor use a trih xeem device to send the star into early nova, the creature is released, to the horror and destruction of the Pfhor.
Angela is the Eragon-equivalent of the player.
She can transport back and forward in time, jumping between timelines, and fighting to prevent the chaotic being's (Azlagur's) release. Let's dive in.
First:
Q: Is it canon that Angela the Herbalist is a Time Lord and did she make a cameo in To Sleep in a Sea of Stars?
A: Is Angela the Herbalist is a Time Lord? That would be copyright infringement, so I'm going to say "no comment", but she is in To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. And there is a canon reason for this. And you should have no problem spotting who she is in that book.
So there's a canon reason she's in the book. Interesting. When you take that into context with the next bit
Q: On your last AMA on reddit, someone asked if any fan had guessed the identity and history of Angela correctly. You said nobody has guessed correctly and there's not enough information in the books to do so. That puts every fan theory out there on her wrong, correct? She's not the soothsayer, a time lord, grey folk, etc, correct?
A: Angela: Some of the fan theories have gotten parts of her history and identity correct. However, there's a HUGE aspect to her nature that no one has guessed (or least, not in a non-joking way). And no, I don't mean her being a Time Lord.
So there's a huge aspect to her nature that no one has guessed (at least at the time of writing). She's self-aware, knows she's in a story, and can jump around in time. And, similar to the Marathon games, it appears like only she knows that she's in a story.
So, based on the Marathon inspiration, we can guess that she is trying to accomplish the same thing - To prevent the release of the cosmic-level villain. We know that she has some kind of relationship with the Draumar:
In Murtagh, it’s revealed that Bachel and “Uluthrek” (Mooneater, Angela’s given Urgal name) met with Bachel explicitly going out to confront her (a courtesy not even offered to a Rider like Murtagh)
So, by extension, she has some kind of connection to Azlagur. This is supported by other circumstantial evidence in FWW as well:
Since we know that the Dream Well in Mani's Caves is similar to the Well in Nal Gorgoth I can assume that Angela is revealing the existence of the Draumar to Elva there? I feel certainly feel as if you're setting up her for something in the future series.
Heh. Good Catch.
So, she is clearly working with Elva to do something related to the Dream Wells, and she also previously confronted Bachel, many years ago. So throughout multiple years across the WoE, she is connected to Azlagur and the Draumar; her story clearly revolves around them/Azlagur, somehow.
Putting the above pieces together, my guess is that she is jumping around in different timelines, trying to manipulate actions of the past to prevent the rise of Azlagur. Just like the player character in Marathon. There's another piece of circumstantial evidence to support this assertion as well.
In Marathon Infinity:
After multiple "jumps," the player (seemingly the only one who realizes he is being transported between possible realities)
Versus Angela:
As hours passed, the stars turned above, night chill drew the heat from my body, and I fell into a curious trance, not asleep but not fully awake... The world altered" (On the Nature of Stars, FWW).
I believe this world "Altering" was the first time she experienced an alternate timeline, without knowing what it was at the time.
We've also seen her create "Doorways" as well - Although it's not clear if this is fast traveling (a la a Torque Gate), or truly opening a path to another timeline.
In Eldest:
"As they landed, he noticed a patch of white on a small hill nearby. The patch wavered strangely in the dark, like a floating candle, then resolved into Angela, who was wearing a pale wool tunic" (A Sorceress, a Snake, and a Scroll).
and then later, more concretely:
"I traced a line on the wall, reached out, and opened a door that wasn't there. ON the other side - nighttime, a beach by a black ocean lit only by stars, so many, many stars, more than there should be. Of course, I would not take Elva to my home, not yet. But this was a waypoint, a place to build and learn and grow... She stared into the gap, the impossible portal" (On the Nature of Stars, FWW).
Still, as always with Angela, so many questions.
Alright, we've reached an ungodly wordcount, so I'll call it here. There are still more connections I'm uncovering between the two series (such as the potential connection between the Gedway Ignasia and the "warning" sensation from Marathon), so I might make a follow-up post in the future with everything else I uncover.
As always, thanks for reading! Let me know what you think in the comments, or if you've found any other connections between the two.

Left to Survive: Apocalypse is an action-packed first-person shooter. The entire zombie world is resurrecting and threatens the existence of life on Earth, as depicted in ornately detailed and meticulously crafted images. Your goal is to compete in tournaments and devise a strategy that will allow you to save innocent people while amassing and occupying the opponent’s armory.

GET RID OF ALL THE ZOMBIES IN THE DUNGEON

Evil ghosts are holding back some of the world’s best gunmen. They are wreaking havoc on the planet and must be stopped at all costs. If you are still disoriented in the dark, it is recommended that you locate the base and construct your battleship as soon as possible. Any zombies that move while driving should be killed or cornered. You should avoid zombie attacks because their magical power and attack pressure are perilous.
Players can avoid assassins by moving around and hiding behind walls and containers. When you’re almost out of ammo, move quickly to avoid leaving traces and being ambushed by an opponent at the last second. You must raid and properly aim at the numerous enemies roaming around to get out of the arena.

PUT ON YOUR ARMOR, WHICH IS SPECIALIZED DAMAGE-DEALING GEAR

When discussing the shooting environment in Left to Survive, the Armor power upgrading device cannot be overlooked. Because each of our guns is equipped with a silencer and pinpoint precision, the incredible magical power of our guns will astound all of the players. If being surrounded by zombies makes you nervous, you can launch an attack from a safe distance.
The Armor pair and the newly added protection feature in the shop will transform into formidable arms to assist you in completing this difficult task. Sniper weapons, guns, shotguns, and machine guns could all be used during the battle. This will be determined by both the target’s and the opponent’s strength. Maintaining your fighting spirit necessitates frequent use of health boosters and ammunition reloading.

CREATE SEPARATE COMBAT FORMATIONS AND COMBINE THE FORCES OF BOTH SIDES

Those who want to fight in multiplayer squads can do so in PvP combat. Combatants can engage in 1×1 solo battles or 2×2 team battles. One of the aspects that distinguish that particular team fight is how the skills of all of the team members combine. Improve your teammates’ abilities to provide the fairest fight possible while avoiding unnecessary injuries. Your opponent may be able to split your force during an ambush battle. Never be duped into fighting more battles with other groups, as cohesiveness is the key to success in Left to Survive.

LAUNCH AN ALL-OUT ASSAULT ON THE ENEMY BASE USING HELICOPTERS

You must raid all bases to turn every fight into a zombie apocalypse. Your helicopter will carry out this operation, which will collect all the resources required to maximize your fighting power. In contrast, enemy bases are constantly guarded by imposing towers and legions of local guards. To conserve energy, the player must also bring formidable weaponry aboard the plane and use the cannon’s most lethal firepower. Then, build your battling stronghold with materials stolen from your opponent’s stronghold.

KEY FEATURES

  • Intense zombie shooting action as you mow down endless hordes of the undead with a variety of upgradable firearms like assault rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles.
  • Deep weapon and character customization system that allows you to tweak the looks of your character and weapons with cool skins and attachments.
  • Addictive online PvP mode where you battle against other real players for prizes and bragging rights. Tests your survival skills against human opponents.
  • Base building feature where you construct and upgrade shelters, resource production buildings, walls/traps, and more to create a zombie-proof stronghold.
  • Scavenge the wastelands for valuable resources and items which are used to craft new weapons/gear to boost your chance of survival.

  • Massive open world maps set in realistic post-apocalyptic locales like cities, forests, deserts etc. which you can explore for loot.

  • Built-in chat system allows real-time text and voice communication with other players to plan strategies and raids.
  • Frequent major content updates add new weapons, maps, enemies, events, clan features, and expanded endgame activities. Keeps the game fresh.

2024.05.15 07:59 Maxdpage Speculation on Nobunaga’s Nen ability

Speculation on Nobunaga’s Nen ability
I believe Nobunaga simply uses a sword as in actual sword as a weapon and uses his 5 meter En Radius to stroke anyone in his range instantly. That makes him a deadly close range combatant.
What is special about his ability is that if Nobunaga were to lose his swords, he will just repurpose his aura into the shape of a sword for combat purpose, it will require some amount of transmutation ofcourse, but then again Nobunaga is transmutation leaning Enhancer, so it is rather well suited for him.
We see a glimpse of this technique when a portion of his sword gets Teleported by Terebellum when Nobu attacks the lawyer.

2024.05.15 07:28 Narangren Solo Stamblade Build

Long-ish post. Lots of detail.
I'm relatively new to the game, looking for some tips. I've been doing research on builds and sets the last few days (ranging from looking at build guides to reading old Reddit discussions about various sets) for my solo character, and I have some ideas, was looking to see if I'm on the right track, or if I need to reevaluate stuff.
First, some info:
I know that's not optimal, but I enjoy it. My RP is as a Nord Vampire assassin, and I do a lot of criminal content, so the vampire is there to stay. As it's a solo build, and therefore hurts no one but me, I plan to work around the drawbacks rather than change race or remove vampirism.
I'm mostly looking for advice on sets, traits, and enchantments. I've purposefully excluded any dungeon or trial sets from my considerations (for the most part) as I'm trying to build my gear before trying to take on that sort of harder content.
Currently, this is what I'm considering:
Reasons:
Battlefield Acrobat - I've been having some sustain issues, which is mostly my fault as I'm not very adept at my rotation yet, but I'm improving, however being a vampire definitely isn't helping that. This set would mitigate that, while also giving me some recovery, and (if old posts are still correct) reducing costs for other actions like breaking free. It doesn't seem to be widely used, but it seems like it would be good for my specific situation.
Ancient Dragonguard - To me, this set seems like it's designed for solo play. Comments said it's a good starter set, and it will add both survivability and damage. Because it's crafted, I can also capitalize on the variable weights to put the heavy on chest and light on belt. It seems like a perfect choice to me.
Iceheart: Comments about solo monster sets seemed to heavily point towards this one, and I think I can see why. It'll add both some damage and survivability, my only question is if damage shields can stack? Or would running this alongside Cleave (and morphs) be redundant?
Thief Stone: I was considering Shadow, for danage and survival, but unless I am mistaken Critical Healing cannot occur on HoTs, so I wouldn't get a ton of value out of the heal boost, so I'm going all in on damage for this one.
Other sets I'm still considering:
Thoughts? I think it's a relatively solid and easy to get starter build that I can use to farm better gear, will keep me alive as I get more proficient in my rotations, and overcomes some of the drawbacks of my roleplaying choices.
Happy to answer any questions, however it's very late, so I'll be asleep soon.
Edit: Reformatted part as it didn't turn out the way I wanted visually.
Edit 2: Added other sets I considered

2024.05.15 07:13 hevenna Story of how I became a walking Inanna

Here's a story how I became a walking Inanna embodied entity here on Earth.
So let's start... I grew up in the suburbs of Colorado in a dark house with an abusive family. My father was quite dark and my mom was not here mentally due to autism. The sick energy of my father's abuse and the land caused a haunted house with sentient poltergeists. I was the black sheep of most things and my main friends were the men in the walls, so I grew up with the dead instead of the living.
I started hearing voices young, but they'd come with some advice and helped guide me through the world, so I've always trusted that they had my better interest then most of the people I was around. I've been a rather reclused person, but I've always tried to remain a kind person, even when I have my darker sides from the trauma of childhood and adulthood. I've kept a relationship with spirit my whole life.
I grew up to be a talented artist in garment creation. I got known for designing fairytale themed ballroom gowns and was dubbed a fairy godmother by the models I worked with, but my trauma got the best of me and I wound up with a narcissistic man. I fell into a space where I assumed I had done something to deserve the abuse he dished out. Then, in August 2020, he had a full psychotic episode. It was like a demonic possession and the worst month of my life. He also referred to me as a Goddess and himself as the God Dumuzi. I developed ulcers from the amount of stress and had near death experience where the Goddess Inanna appeared out of the waters of the dead river and requested me to go back to Earth.
Her voice continued guiding me. She pointed out where my mind was and helped rework it to realize the situation I was in and finally flee after my ex gave me a mild stroke and seizures. I fled to my sister who ironically was in a "contemporary shamanism" cult, mainly based on death magic. They worship some entity called "Crazy Woman".
At first, their version of shamanism was helpful. I had some knowledge and have studied into Shintoism, Hinduism and Pagan religions. The group seemed kind and wanting to help, but I studied narcissism and the effects on people, and I quickly started to pick up on the red flags by the Godhead in charge of the group. When I brought it up, I would be met with an intense amount of hostility and violence along with a whole trained technique of narcissism on a spiritual level. It felt like I was energetically being eaten alive and I couldn't stay awake. I lost my ability to create or basically function, again, thinking it's me.
But this whole time, I had Inanna telling me other things like, "You're to meet a great storyteller and solve the riddles of the world." I didn't believe it. My personal life was so dark ,and my brain was so damaged, I no longer could function on a cognitive level. Then, another friend and I, who also hears guiding voices, followed their advice to do a ritual to escape what Inanna called "A mind maze". We ironically drew the eye of Ra with our car as we ventured across the Cascade mountains and over a giant river. We did what's called a soul retrieval from hell and Inanna took over my body. It worked and our minds started to settle after about 3 days.
Then reality shifted my sister in a rage violently attacking and humping me screaming, "I'm the crazy woman!" I ran outside to fall in front of some stranger I didn't know, but had seen him around before. I unloaded everything crazy about my life and this stranger simply asked "Have you heard of the Djinn?" When I said no, he went on to explain ancient knowledge, saying that he studied the quorum tablets, language and indigenous studies from a ancient tribe in Persia (or now Iran). He's like a wizard or something. We went on to talk about the Annunaki and Sumeria, where Inanna comes from, and I recognized him immediately as the great storyteller. He came with a slew of unusual spiritual gifts. We now hang out, constantly picking at each other's cultures and learning so much about the world. Ironically, he read my parents book as a child and idolized the life of the child who's parents are Paleontologists.
Slowly, Inanna and I have learned to switch places and she uses my body to heal victims of narcissistic abuse, mainly 20 year olds (Generation Z). It's taken a whole group of young brilliant minds, a stream strange coincidences that can't explained, and people who seem brought to you by the universe or sky itself to center you down and realize your actually not insane or seeing things. I somehow just learned how to do this by sheer will to fight against the abuse that was being done to me to enchant something real because the people in the rich, contemporary shamanism keep it in secret. They are stealing indigenous knowledge of healing and are using it to hurt people and force them into their belief system. Somehow, I did this, and its honestly unbelievable. Most of them and my life seems almost unreal (or insane) to most people, but somehow, some way.... The entity known as Inanna is coming down and lending a helping hand to those in need. My friends all say I'm the real thing, looking into my eyes and calling me a gift to the world when what I used to hearing was how I was the devil and waspushed into such darkness. Now I have light and dark humbly embodied into a fairytale couture designer by a hell goddess who brought me back from the dead.
So here I am on the will of dragon (dinosaur) spirits, guided by crazy goddess grabbing random young adults to give them some hope and guidance in the poverty class as I live in my run down little apartment creating fairy tale gowns and working nights at the grocery story, fairy godmothering doesnt pay much these. This is wild 😜

2024.05.15 07:10 Lowback I'd like to see more dynamic teamwork gimmicks

Not static stuff like team-loading or crew-loading a weapon. Or the datamined stuff about lugging around gear. I'm saying, weapons interplay with one another and enhance one another.
Arc thrower applies a debuff that makes it so plasma beams, plasma grenades, charge up plasma, and such like, all do additional damage.
Quasar applies a big orange-red molten looking decal. Anyone laser weapons targeting these areas get a +1 to their armor penetration category. Quasar would enable something like a laser cannon to reliably assist in bringing down big targets.
Any hitbox currently being hit with the laser cannon is -2 armor class for said hitbox.
Gas+airburst launcher=spreads the gas out further for a bigger effect area.
Corrosive orbital strike gas+Incendiary grenade=Boom.
All of this seems way more fun and dynamic than standing beside another guy and just mashing interact or reload keys.
