2024.04.12 06:25 Moimadd Will stomach issue meds worsen aka

Have been dealing with horrible stomach pain and bloating that has made it very difficult to eat and sleep over the past few weeks and has obviously exacerbated akathisa due to the stress. I was prescribed protonix (proton pump inhibitor), pepcid (antacid/antihistamine), and carafate (antacid) to treat this but very worried about how this will affect akathisia due to past medication sensitivity.
I didn't want to take anything but the pain will not go away no matter what non-medication route I go down so I don't really have much choice. Anyone have experiences with these types of medications with aka?

2024.04.12 05:39 Hello_MsUsername Constant acid reflux, nothing helps it

F20, 5’5”, 95lbs
Diagnosis: GERD, gastritis, hyperactive gallbladder
Medications: pantoprazole, carafate, zofran (as needed), gaviscon (as needed)
I do not take any vitamins, supplements, or use any other substances. I get acid reflux all the time no matter what. When I’m hungry I get acid reflux, I eat I get acid reflux, I drink water I get acid reflux, I get stressed I get acid reflux. I will take antacids to try to stop it, but they don’t help and neither does the PPI. I’m on the GERD and gastritis diet, but still get acid reflux. I will get constant pain in my stomach, bloating, I can’t breathe most of the time, my chest hurts, my throat feels tight, I’m always nauseous, I have little to no appetite, and I keep losing weight. I don’t know what to do at this point, I’ve done so many test with the majority coming back normal. Should I go to the ER? I’ve been like this for over a year, I cannot live like this forever.

2024.03.20 19:21 mysticalbubblefairy Some medications I was prescribed and how they’ve been working for me

Hi there! I recently posted a vent the other day and had gone to the emergency room. I’ve been dealing with this sort of problem for a little over 5 months now and I’ve been prescribed a few medications and wanted to share what has worked for me so far.
Omeprazole 20 mg (brands like Prilosec) - I was prescribed 20 mg and to be taken once 30 minutes before breakfast. For me, it had worked in the past, but hasn’t really had a huge effect on me until recently. I’ve been taking it for about 3 weeks (tomorrow marking 3) and I started to feel more nauseous the more I take it, making it difficult to eat in the mornings. I was advised from my emergency care doctor that I could still take it but if I see that it isn’t helping, I could stop.
Antacid (Tums) and simethicone (brand names can be Gas-x) - I found these to have been useful for the first three days and then caused a lot of pain for me, especially the simethicone. There would be days that it would caused me to double over in pain and it was too much to handle. I stopped taking both because I noticed that they weren’t much help.
These next three medications were prescribed to me by the emergency care doctor.
Aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone (brand name is Maalox Advanced Maximum Strength or Mylanta) - This one I find to have been pretty helpful and I started to take this one yesterday. This is a liquid medication, so my doctor recommended to take 20 milliliters 4 times daily as needed for indigestion, between meals and at bed time. I had bought the generic brand at my local pharmacy because I couldn’t find the other brands but make sure that they include the three ingredients listed. I feel like it costs your stomach to prevent any discomfort. The pharmacist told me I could take this an hour before eating to prevent discomfort or as instructed. I took this about three times yesterday after purchase and I feel like it had helped me. Of course, every stomach is different but this is what I’ve seen has helped me the most. Some of these liquids come in flavors, and I would recommend cherry or anything that is not mint or lemon flavor (sometimes I wonder why they even make those flavors as those are really hard on the stomach).
Famotidine 20 mg (Brand is Pepcid) - The doctor told me that this was similar to omeprazole and it would be okay to take them together (omeprazole in the morning and this one at night) and I have not tried it so far because he suggested I’d try each of the medications he prescribed once at the time to see what helps me the best. I’ve seen a lot of people say that this medication works well for them and I hope that it does help me too.
Sucralfate 10 mL (Carafate brand) - This was prescribed as 10 mL four times a day for any abdominal pain and discomfort. I haven’t tried this yet since I am trying out each medication one by one, but I will soon try this medication out. A lot of people on here have recommended that this helped out a lot, so I have high hopes for it. The doctor told me that this is mainly for the pain, and he recommended me to wait since I was on my cycle the time of my visit and told me it could interfere with my cramps, depending on how my cramps had been with my symptoms.
I wanted to just share these and see if anyone had any advice on which to take, like I had mentioned, I find the Maalox generic to have helped me recently, I slept so well last night and didn’t wake up with any pain (I haven’t slept properly for the past week due to the intense flare ups) so that was such a relief. If you do try this one out, let me know how that works for you! I am not a medical professional in any way, but these were recommended to me by a medical professional! Wishing everyone a safe recovery 🫶🏼

2024.02.17 11:37 Electrical_Chain8924 Should I be doing more?

I am 19 M and have been diagnosed with gastritis for about 4 and a half months now. It has been an up and down road to recovery. I am currently taking 40 MG pantoprazole once a day, along with carafate twice a day and Pepcid tablets when needed. I am also on a relatively bland diet (chicken, pasta, broccoli, basic breakfast bars) and have been for a couple weeks now. I am struggling with constipation presumably due to all the PPI and antacids I have been taking. However, I don’t want to stop taking this due to fear that my gastritis symptoms could worsen. Also wondering if vaping nicotine products regularly is affecting my recovery process? Is there anything yall would recommend I take on top of the stuff I’m already taking or anything I could be doing differently? A response would be much appreciated as I am starting to get frustrated with the whole process.

2024.02.14 07:01 duffnut Acute gastritis for 1.5 months?

I think I developed gastritis at the beginning of January after heavy food, alcohol, and then a food poisoning episode lasting 2 weeks that probably broke the camel's back.
Initially it was hard to figure out what I had but symptoms were anxiety, hot feelings on one side of my neck that would come and go, general abdomen discomfort, and pins and needles in my limbs. I was on antibiotics + PPIs for the food poisoning and seemed to be getting better, but I guess my stomach must have gotten progressively more inflamed—when I thought I was OK I had a burrito and that caused a lot of nausea and vomiting that sent me to the ER for dehydration (started having heart palpitations and buzzing in my whole body).
After the ER was when it truly started resembling gastritis for me. I’ve had gastritis 2 years ago (was caused by spicy food, sour candy, and NSAIDs) and it felt similar. It had resolved in around 2 weeks; endoscopy 2 months later showed H Pylori so I did the treatment to eradicate it (wasn't confirmed though).
Anyway so this time, I only ate rice, bananas, and oatmeal and slowly introduced salmon for variety. I was getting back to normal over the course of 2 weeks. But I was set back by a single peppery dinner last week that caused a very delayed flareup after 18-24 hours (unfortunately I had leftovers from the meal for lunch because I thought I was in the clear).
I am still going through an extended flareup (with some days of relief) despite returning to a bland diet and eliminating triggers. My symptoms almost always seem to manifest as this kind of sprain-like feeling in my left arm along with heat or churning in my stomach area.
Anyone had similar experiences, and any ideas on causes and treatments? I am at my wit's end and it almost feels like my lack of hope because of the persistence of this condition is almost as bad as the condition itself.
edit to add: Since the ER trip I’ve been having Carafate and the PPI together, along with antacids PRN... just also added slippery elm tea (just powder and honey in water) to the rotation.

2024.02.09 10:50 Slight_War_8146 PPI’s and kidney stones

Hi all, currently taking PPI’s (40mg x2 a day) a H2 blocker x 2 a day and antacids/ carafate for pill induced esophagitis.
I know PPI’s are linked to kidney stones & I so I’m wondering if there’s any tips I could use to reduce the risk of them forming? (Other than water of course)
Only going on the meds for 2 weeks before weaning, but worried about my kidneys & iron levels in the meantime.
TIA!

2024.01.28 22:43 ThrowRA-0709 Help/Advice-Xyrem failed (emetophobia warning)

Hi everyone, I need advice. I cannot tolerate Xyrem anymore. I tried Xywav and failed that too. I was totally fine for a little over a month…until I started vomiting violently every morning and I started vomiting blood. I went to ER and the blood was because I was busting capillaries from how hard I was throwing up. It’s essentially the same thing that happened on Xywav. Apparently my guts cannot tolerate the medication despite a lot of troubleshooting on my end. I’ve tried eating 2,3,4 even 5 hours before taking the meds, taking my acid reducer at different times, I tried Carafate, antacids, different doses. You name it, I tried it to make it work.
The issue I have now: the month Xyrem was working, was the best month I’ve had in years. I am absolutely distraught because I had my life back. Now I’m about to go without it and I’m not sure what to do. The last few days I haven’t been taking Xyrem have been awful. Stimulants aren’t really an option (I take Adderall for ADHD but I can’t take a higher dose) because of heart issues. I tried Wakix and had a horrible reaction to it. I am allergic to Venlafaxine so I can’t take that. I also cannot use cannabis, it is not an option for me.
What are some other treatments that have worked for you?

2024.01.21 07:34 Reasonable_Rub4718 Will my dog die?

Labrador is 12.5. Former guide dog for the blind, now an elementary school therapy dog.
Started vomiting Thursday night, including all his food. No breakfast given; continued vomiting on Friday. Gave 1/2 cup food and water for dinner, vomited it all up. Took him in Friday night. X-ray was normal, blood work okay, but showed high cpl (was "unreadable" as it said it was over >1175 with >400 showing signs of pancreatitis). Vet said to treat as Pancreatitis.
Left vet with anti nausea meds and carafate (to help heal stomach before food) and told to give chicken and rice. Still won't eat. Had a little water overnight but also vomited again. Now Saturday and no food and drink all day and vomited once more. Took back to vet and got pain meds, antacid, and Gabapentin. Having a hard time giving him any meds. Vet now closed. I know he needs fluids but all emergency vets within 2 hours are full.
Now what? Is he dying? Is there a chance he'll start eating tomorrow? I'm hysterical. Is there more/different that he should be getting?

2024.01.12 11:20 spoookytree Overwhelmed with all the medicine and timing of them

Hey guys, I’m extremely overwhelmed with all the medicine I have to take and the timing around them and around food. It’s become an all day thing I have to worry about and taking over my life. I get an uncomfortable fullness and pressure no matter what I ear or how slow or how little. I’m finding trouble fitting in my normal medications I was already taking before this flare up.
So of course Pantoprazole, I was taking once a day but after last E.R visit, was told I can start taking twice so I’m assuming to fit that in at night somehow.
I’ve been starting the day with pantoprazole but am wondering if this has to be taken on its own? Can I wake up and take this plus my normal meds at the same time? (I think I have to starry crushing my pills anyways hard to swallow them.) Or does there have to be a wait? So I have to wait 30 mins before I can eat? Or can I eat at the same time?
I’m also started on sulcrafate 4 times a day, but this specifically says to wait 30 mins before eating anything, hour before and hour after antacids which sucks when I take it and have a reaction but then have to suffer before I can take mylanta or tums. Can I take sulcrafate at the same time as pantoprazole, my normal meds (including birth control pill) and wait 30 mins to eat then?
I also was prescribed Bentyl that requires time in between its use and anti acids, also to help taken up to 4 times a day. What about sulcrafate though? Can I take that with sulcrafate? Can I take it pantoprazole?
This whole thing is just adding so much stress on top of an already stressful situation. I can barely eat. I eat like half a potato a little bone broth and maybe a little fruit so far in the day which is not much…
It’s a full time job taking care of myself with this right now and is so painful to eat. Even right now I’m up at 5 am with what I call “the hungers” where if I don’t eat, my gastritis will send me into full blown inflammation response like I ate one of my food intolerances (gluten, soy etc.) which hasn’t happened the last few mornings so now I sit here and wait 30 mins because I started with sulcrafate but should I have taken pantoprazole first?
I’m going batshit insane and already pretty neurodivergent and take things very literally.
HELP! T.T
Edit: Took my Carafate, eating my puffed rice cereal with little almond milk, starting to get some discomfort while at the same time not satisfying my gastritis… so like can I take tums or mylanta here soon? T.T or do I have to wait longer since I took the carafate and ate?

2023.11.11 23:05 IcyImplement623 I have every symptom.

First off I want to admit I have had health anxiety for years ever since my mom had colon cancer. For the last couple of weeks I have had crazy burning pain in abdomen and upper stomach pain under right ribs and awful back pain that spreads over my whole lower back. Everything I eat gives me extreme gas and terrible reflux but if don’t eat I feel just as bad. I have been on nexium for years. Even drinking water is an issue right now. Stools have been loose but nothing clay colored or jaundice with occasional diarrhea. No vomiting and I still have an ok appetite. I have been sleeping terrible and I wake up with gas and stomach pain early in the morning every day. My digestion stinks. I have had issues for years ever since my gall bladder was taken out but nothing this severe and it always been manageable abe. This feels like a different type of pain and I am terrified it is pc. I have lost about 5-10 lbs i have a doctors appointment next week. How likely does this seem like pc and what test should I ask for at the doctors appointment. 41 year old male. I had a colonoscopy and a scope 2 years ago and everything was clear then. Probiotics and any more antacids don’t do anything.
Update: Saw my doctor yesterday was prescribed carafate. Had an absolutely awful night unable to sleep to due pain all across my abdomen and back. Had my wife take me to the er. All of my blood tests and urine tests were perfect. Pushed for a ct but the doc said it was not necessary at this point which was disappointing. Anyways I guess I will continue with the prescribed meds and see if there is any improvement. Going to see my chiropractor soon to see if that helps with any of the pain. It is nice to know that blood work was clear and that docs don’t think it is anything pancreas related but i would feel a lot better had I gotten a ct that was clear.
Update #2 Had a follow up with my doctor today. Abdominal pain has improved some but pain across my lower lowecenter back and especially below right ribs has gotten considerably worse. Have managed to gain a few lbs over the holiday weekend which is encouraging. Pain seems to be worse when sitting or laying on back but is there 24/7. Feels a touch better after eating and then gets really bad a couple hours later. Ct scan was scheduled but it sounds like it will be a few weeks. Just never has consistent amount of pain like this. Between the pain, gas, indigestion, it is really wearing on me. I am not feeling great about what the ct is going to find.

2023.11.04 03:38 shitwave My potentiator stack

Hi all,
I've had requests to post my potentiator stack across this and a few other boards, so I wanted to make this post to share what I've learned and so I can send this to those who ask in the future. Three things first: grapefruit juice and arginine inhibit kratom's effects for me, so I no longer use them. You can use them on off-days as it supposedly helps; still in the beginning stages of studying this. Secondly, for all except the multivitamin, I take the label-instructed dose +1 as I'm a hefty fella. I won't list out brand names but I get pretty much all my potentiators from Amazon and a local health foods store. Thirdly, and most importantly, ***do not take your regular dose when using any potentiators for the first time***. Depending on your tolerance, you may want to drop your dosage in half and try these one by one (at the time I began experimenting with potentiators, I had an extremely high tolerance ($600/month in extracts) so I just cut my dose in half and used all the potentiators at once and it was like my first time again. Most of these products can be easily acquired through Amazon or a local health foods store.

IMPORTANT NOTE: if you are a long-time and/or regular user, please also consult this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/kratom/comments/17s6uyz/a_rarely_discussed_serious_side_effect_of_kratom/
Regarding the above thread, I am still in the beginning stages of learning about what works best for me, but this is something that is well-worth your attention and the investment in a few supplements (all of which are mentioned in the OP)

Anywho, enjoy, and I hope you find this helpful.
Minimum 1 hr before dose; 2 is better
If my stomach feels 'backed up'
If my stomach feels acidic
If I feel like I might get nauseous
And that's it. I don't know if I can post brand/product names, but if a mod ok's it, I'll post the most bang-for-your-buck, high-quality non-liquid extracts (fuck shots) I've found in about 10 years of regular use. One of them is a green and the other is a heavy red. I don't find much of a point in going for white/white-leaning strains/products because reds and greens always produce more euphoria and pain relief (for me) and if I get too sleepy I can just have a bit of caffeine (I'm hypersensitive to it so I'll just have a weakly-brewed cup of decaf tea, which does still have caffeine in it). Thanks for reading!
*this section previously recommended Tums - after experiencing the agony of joint calcification, I am completely done taking Tums for the rest of my life - Pepto Liquicaps are the only OTC antacid I will ever take - bear in mind that taking antacids at least 30 mins before your kratom dose can really boost the efficacy of your dose by ensuring that your stomach acid does not destroy any kratom before it has a chance to be absorbed. If you regularly struggle with stomach acidity, I recommend talking to your doctor about pantoprazole and sucralfate/carafate.

2023.10.24 02:07 txgrl308 Is it supposed to hurt so much?

I've dealt with flare-ups of excruciating stomach pain for 20 years. My last scope was about 12 years ago. At the time, the doctor said I had some gastritis, but that everybody has some gastritis if you scope them. I've never noticed improvement with antacids. I have zero bowl issues, nausea, or reflux. It's just this pain that feels like I'm being stabbed by a burning hot knife.
I had Covid a couple of weeks ago, followed by the worst flare-up I can remember. I saw my PCP last week but went to the ER when the pain got unbearable. They did a CT, blood, and urine. Everything was normal, so he gave me protonix and carafate. I can't tell if they're helping. I'm working on getting a GI appointment, but my insurance is terrible.
The doctors I've seen seem to think I'm overreacting to a mild ailment, but I've had a natural childbirth, and this pain is absolutely worse than that. So my question is, how much does gastritis hurt? Can it leave you crying and doubled over on the floor for days? Because whatever is going on in there feels anything but mild.

2023.10.19 16:16 Upper_Tumbleweed509 Severe Nausea/Fatigue all of a sudden after 7 weeks post op?

Hi, guys. I'm 7 weeks post op and for the last 2 weeks, I've had severe, debilitating nausea, vomiting and fatigue. I'm barely able to function. I, of course, called the surgeon and she advised in a brief message that this is common after introducing new foods back into my diet. I might buy that if I introduced new food in my diet. I've been following their diet recommendations and, up until that point, only had very mild nausea once coming home after surgery. I've run a fever on a few of these last few days. However, I'm still taking my vitamins, drinking maybe 45 Oz of water and am keeping down 2 protein shakes a day. Feeling this way is a real problem as I'm single without any family support and mother to a 7 year old. I had to keep her out of school on Monday as I was too sick to get out of bed. Is it normal to go through this in this stage post op? No medications..Zofran, carafate, antacids work. Any advice? Or should I insist the surgeon do additional testing (she always wants to throw meds at me without finding the root cause of stuff, which is really irritating. )
Have a great day, guys!

2023.09.11 03:41 anonbaby1234 Anyone take Pristiq (SNRI)? Did it make your gastritis worse?

I’m back on Pristiq because my mental health has been the worst it’s ever been for the past year. It’s the only med that’s ever worked for me- I’ve tried over 20 different kinds (it’s a long, unfortunate story). I’ve been taking the starting dose (25 mg) for 3 weeks now and it has completely brought back my gastritis and severe reflux, which is torture, as you guys know. I’m confused because I’ve been on Pristiq two other times for extended periods at 3x the dose I’m taking now and it didn’t bring back my gastritis, so why is it so bad this time?? These days my body just rejects everything. I swear my medication sensitivity got way worse after my doctors had me try far too many.
Anyone ever had a gastritis flare from Pristiq and eventually gotten past it (with diet and lifestyle changes) without having to quit taking the Pristiq? I really feel like I don’t have an option here. Thanks in advance for any input!
Btw, it’s probably worth mentioning ahead of time that I’ve struggled with gastritis on and off for 8 years. I have the diet nailed down, I was recently tested for H. Pylori again and it was negative again, I’ve tried every PPI and H2 blocker, carafate, antacids, natural remedies, you name it. I’m a seasoned gastritis sufferer so I know the remedies and such, I’m just beyond frustrated that I can’t treat my severe mental health problems without paying a painful price. I’m trying to stay positive and hope it’ll go away as I continue my strict diet and lifestyle, but I’ve also been through this enough times to know that it usually doesn’t get better until you cut out the main offender. I just can’t really afford to do that this time

2023.02.02 04:00 AgedBobaFetta Tips for My Surgical Consult?

TLDR: I’ve been dealing with left-side upper abdominal pain since mid-November. I finally got an ultrasound, and the results said I have gallstones. My surgical consult is Monday. Any tips on what I need to ask? I haven’t had surgery since I was a child, and I’ve never had a “consult” for surgery.
I’ve been having upper left (under the rib cage) nighttime abdomen pain since before thanksgiving. The pain only happened after dinner and lasted 7-8 hours, always like a stabbing pain in the middle of my chest. I would have dull pain in my left side during the day. At night the attacks would be stabbing pain in the center of my chest and right side. I went to my PCP, who said I had a stomach ulcer but needed an H. Pylori test first. I ended up in urgent care, which sent me to ambulatory care and said, “well, here is Carafate, and this should help.” Things got worse, and then my H Pylori test came back negative. My PCP put me on hardcore antacids. Things got worse until I ended up in the ER, puking blood. They said, “you probably have a stomach ulcer. Do you want a CT scan? It probably won’t show anything if you have an ulcer. “ I declined and took the referral to the GI Specialist. Finally, the GI doctor said gastritis or gallbladder failure. She ordered an ultrasound which just came back and showed gallstones. I haven’t seen the radiologist's report; I only know that I have gallstones from a message from the specialist. I’ve lost 20 pounds and haven’t been able to eat solid food after 2 pm since December. I’m frightened but relieved to have answers. My surgery consult is on Monday. What things do you recommend that I bring up or ask during said consult?

2023.01.05 10:24 drmanoharlalsharma Gastritis Treatments in jaipur

While many cases of gastritis are caused by the H. pylori bacterium, which attacks the stomach lining, a lot of gastritis patients are the victim of something that actually belongs in the system: stomach acid. There are a number of gastritis treatments available, which one depends on the type of gastritis.
Your stomach naturally has acids to break down and digest foods. Your stomach has a very strong lining that stops these acids from getting out into the rest of your body, where they would be corrosive and harmful. But sometimes something happens to your stomach lining that makes it weak, thus letting the acids out and causing pain and discomfort. Gastritis -- which refers to an inflamed stomach lining, regardless of the cause -- is the result. Best Gastroenterologist In Jaipur
If the cause of your gastritis is indeed stomach acid rather than bacteria, there are a number of ways of treating it. For mild, occasional flares of gastritis, simple over-the-counter medications such as Maalox and Mylanta -- basic antacids -- may alleviate the symptoms. If the problem is ongoing, however, or becomes severe, you should see a doctor to determine whether it's serious enough for a prescription.
Your doctor might prescribe an acid blocker. Some of the common brand names of acid blockers that you may have heard of are Tagamet, Zantac, Axid, and Pepcid. These drugs cause the stomach to produce less acid than usual, thus reducing your gastritis symptoms. Of course, it's neither feasible nor wise to get rid of stomach acid altogether, since you need it to digest food. But acid blockers can at least reduce it a bit, to get rid of the excess acid that's causing you trouble.
Continue reading to discover other medical treatments for gastritis and sign up for the free newsletter focusing on overcoming gastritis through natural means.
Another way of doing this is through proton pump inhibitors. Here's how they work. The cells of your stomach have little "pumps" in them that squirt out acid. Proton pump inhibitors work to shut down those "pumps." The cells remain; they just don't secrete acid anymore. Medications that do this have names such as Prilosec, Prevacid, Aciphex, and Nexium. As an added bonus, proton pump inhibitors also seem to reduce the effectiveness of the H. pylori bacterium, thus killing two birds with one stone when it comes to gastritis. Gastroenterologist In Jaipur
The fourth medical way to deal with acid-caused gastritis is something called a cytoprotective agent. These are drugs that give added protection to the tissues of your small intestine and your stomach. So instead of reducing the amount of stomach acid, this tactic says, "Bring on the stomach acid. We'll just give added protection to everything it touches." Carafate and Cytotec are two brand names of cytoprotective drugs. Also, regular Pepto-Bismol has the same effect, coating the inside of your intestine and stomach and thus protecting it from acid. Cytoprotectives, like proton pump inhibitors, are also effective against H. pylori.
As with all medications, you should take these only as advised by your doctor, and report any side effects immediately. Luckily, one or more of these gastritis treatments usually easily solves the issue and the symptoms gradually disappear.

2022.12.04 05:53 mindk214 The Main Approaches for Healing

Gastritis occurs when the stomach lining is inflamed. This can occur the mucosa lining of the stomach is compromised. This condition also increases the risk of developing peptic ulcers. The main approaches for healing chronic gastritis and peptic/duodenal ulcers involve addressing the root cause of gastritis and repairing the inner mucosa lining of the stomach.

2022.08.27 01:37 ShirlsinIN My journey after 8 years (long story)

So on this date 8 years ago I had my RNY bypass. I weighed 338 on the day of surgery. This was after starting at 350.
At my absolute lowest I was down to 192 (size 10 pants, large shirt) this was actually my goal due to being a tall woman (5’8”) if I lost any more I would look sickly.
Well, with time everything changes. I had to get my gallbladder out 7 months after my bypass then started having issues with my uterus. Ultimately I had to have a partial hysterectomy at 18 months out.
Well, that and unhealthy choices along with Covid got me hanging around the 270 mark.
About a year ago I took control of my life. Did a complete change of everything (new job, focusing on health, etc). This helped me get down to the 250s.
Then earlier this year I started having back pain. I thought it was from my job (truck driver) and started taking otc medications for it. I then started having nausea and not keeping anything down. I was constantly seeing a chiropractor for my back because it was hurting so bad.
Proceeded to go to the hospital a few times for my nausea and pain but they kept finding nothing wrong. So I went to the family doctor and he did his tests. Everything came back normal. So he prescribed Mobic. I asked about this drug because of the NSAID classification and was told I would be fine for 10 days of treatment. (*never take this drug after RNY, it is known as the bari killer to my hospital group*).
A few days after I started taking this medicine I was feeling horrible. Once again nothing was staying down. I called my surgeons office and they fit me in next day. The NP prescribes me carafate and antacids and tells me I need an endoscopy to see if I have an ulcer.
The same night I saw the doctor I woke up nauseous again. Went into the bathroom and proceeded to vomit blood…. Scary…. Since my surgical group is a hour away I went to the local ER.
Where they admit me and do an endoscopy where we discover a 4 mm ulcer (I called it Eugene). I was admitted to the hospital for the night to monitor and was sent home the next day. I kept asking if they were talking to my surgical groups office and I was told someone else was doing it.
About 4 days after I am sent home I pass out at my house and my boyfriend drives me to the ER. Once again I vomit blood… they transfer me to the bariatric hospital due to the doctors calling my surgeons office and actually speaking to someone.
So second hospital stay. This time they are monitoring my blood work closely. Overnight I am given 3 pints of blood because my levels tanked. I have another endoscopy done. This time by my bariatric surgeon.
The results are the same. Ulcer is HUGE, recommended revisions to my bypass. I have never heard of revision before so I was nervous. Since I was not actively bleeding and I was stable I was able to go home within a few days. But I was warned that the next time I had the same issue I was having the revision.
Not even 36 hours after being released I woke up in the middle of the night nauseous. I pass out again. This time I am not sure for how long. But I wake up covered in blood. I knew this time I needed help so I called 911 and was picked up and taken to the ER again.
Once there, I was given another 2 pints of blood. And then transferred to the bari hospital…
I saw my doctor the next day and he told me I I was going to have surgery the next day.
So I had my revision. I currently am sitting at 215 starting over at the beginning. Today would have been my 8 year surgery anniversary. But I am now 5 weeks out from revision.
I like to joke with my family that I got a crappy 12 days of Christmas in July.
5 blood transfusions 4 hospital stays 3 surgeries 2 nerve blocks But I am healthy again
Not sure why I have decided to write this down. Maybe it can be a precautionary tale to everyone to keep up with what you need to do after surgery and not squander it.
Thanks for reading…. Hope you learned something or at least fought some boredom away.

2022.08.05 02:39 Mcsubstrip Med Questions

Hey everyone! I have a couple questions abour medication response, based on previous responses to medication.
I just had my first two ketamine infusions, one being 0.4mg/kg, and the one this morning being 0.5mg/kg. I’ve has the strongest response from this treatment than from any i’ve had at all. This morning i went through an event after my infusion that reminded me of a traumatic event, it really scared me, not knowing why i was upset because of the effect of the ketamine.
My psychiatrist walked into the room and saw me crying, and i told her the situation that had occurred, she started to ask me a few questions, ending in a realization it made me remember a traumatic event, and since she helped me through it during, and made my reaction seem normal, i think it’s not going to bother me anymore.
I’d usual get mad at a person not involved in what triggered me, but rhis time i had a natural reaction and cryed, feeling pure pain without a hostile reaction. I’m so proud of myself and i’m so happy ketamine is working for me. Yes i’m on a fairly low dose, but it’s already working very well. It’s helping with my anxiety, depression, and drug cravings since the first infusion, and now trauma.
My question is, is there any medications that you can take daily that working on the same receptors as ketamine without the psychoactive effect? Anything that i could use so the periods between infusions where my symptoms come back, or somerhing i could use for maintenance so i wouldn’t have to get infusions as regularly as the usual one month?
I’m thinking about maybe selegiline, patch form, 6mg so no dietary restrictions or hypertensive crisis (yes i know it’s not that bad but i’d rather not go through it or risk it), if you have any recommendations please share!
Diagnosis i have: • Treatment Resistant Generalized Anxiety Disorder • Traatment Resistant Depression • Social Phobia • Panic Disorder • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder • Substance/Opioid Use Disorder • Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder Type 2 • Chronic Insomnia • Irritable Bowel Syndrome Type M • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder • Gilbert’s Syndrome • Was Misdiagnosed With Bipolar 1 Disorder During Substance Abuse, Now Not Diagnosed

2022.02.26 18:28 coogie How long is acid rebound supposed to last after going off PPI?

I have your garden variety GERD (just a wimpy LES) and I posted about this a couple of weeks ago, but I went off 40MG protonix after 13 years, about 19 days ago. It just seemed to be causing more issues than it was resolving- was getting more indigestion and other issues and my doctor really has been trying to get me off it so he gave me 40 mg famotidine and sucralfate and of course antacids. He also gave me more Protonix in case I would need it but it seems like he wants me to go 3 weeks with Famotidine and one week with Protonix. In the past he would urge me to take breaks and go 1 week with Famotidine which I could never do.
Anyway, as expected, days 4-8 were kind of hell with the acid rebound, but then I was feeling great. Like not even the nagging discomfort in my chest. I thought "Holy crap! I can pull this off!". In the last 3 days though, I feel that the Famotidine and Carafate and the antacids aren't holding down the fort enough. I'm trying to figure out whether this is just what my normal body with normal acid levels is, or if this is still the acid rebound.
If it's still rebounding, I can hold off a little longer, but if this is how it is with normal acid production then I don't want to torture myself and cause damage and would go back to Protonix, at least for a week. Either way it's a small victory because I've never been off PPIs for this long.
So 19 days enough for the rebound to go away?
*EDIT*
Whether it's still rebound or this is my normal state, I have to go back to the PPIs for another week. I feel that I'm starting to cause damage to my esophagus again and that is too high of a price to pay for the pride of being off PPIs. I'll try again in a week or so and do a 1 week on, 2 weeks off kind of thing.
