The vote has passed in all units.
79% of participating members overall voted yes.

Over the past weeks, UC has allowed violence and intimidation against our academic community who exercised their right to protest. This vote shows that UAW 4811 members will not tolerate UC’s unlawful and shameful actions.
UC’s unfair labor practices include:
• Actively risking the health and safety of UAW 4811 members and members of the university community by allowing violent attacks by agitators and police on peaceful protesters who bravely chose to speak up as employee members of the University’s Academic community and by creating an unsafe work environment. • Making unilateral changes to working conditions that have impacted our teaching, our work obligations, our safety and our academic freedom; • Summoning the police to forcibly eject and arrest UAW 4811 members in retaliation for engaging in peaceful protest activity demanding workplace-related changes; causing a chilling effect on future concerted actions by our union and its members, and more. • UC administration must be held accountable for the serious unfair labor practices that impact our union and our members in this instance and in the future.
Our union has filed additional ULP charges against UC for labeling the potential strike as “unlawful.” The Public Employer-Employee Relations board has sole authority to determine the legality of a strike, and UC’s assertion contradicts decades of settled law. 2024.05.16 03:28 Fren-LoE I pose a few important questions to those excited for group ironman mode: Is it worth delaying the mode *IF* a loyalty shop/point rework happens beforehand?

I lay a few important questions and considerations at the feet of the players who are excited for group ironman and plan to play it either casually or competitively on day one.
I promise you this is improperly formatted and could be said better but hopefully this is good brain food.
Players that have made any serious alt or an ironman since the loyalty program's release know full well that its design is a very convenient revenue source for Jagex. They've hooked immediate payout of loyalty points to real life currency. I'm not here to debate the ethics of that here. They're a business and its another method to earn revenue.
Due to the nature of obtaining loyalty points for the plethora of auras "available" to brand new accounts, the majority of those who wish to take the mode seriously will definitely be eyeing buying a year or two premier club memberships straight away almost strictly due to the loyalty point payout for the auras. There are a lot of other great reasons to buy premier club like the cost savings, the *still not free to premier members* Runemetrics pro discount, etc.
So, my questions are these: Would you be willing to accept a delay in the release of group ironman mode if and only IF they reworked how the rest of the auras are earned in the game?
Are you completely fine with paying a year of membership (or multiple) in advance just to be able to get the tier of jack of trades or other auras you want and almost need right away?
Do you think if there was ever a time to request Jagex take the time to actually commit to the rework of the loyalty point mechanic, this might be that one time?
leave your thoughts as I'm personally conflicted as I can absolutely see both sides to this coin.

I started a $150 a year membership with Bay wheels meaning I get unlimited free 45 bike rides. Today I biked to work as usual with a ride duration of 12 minutes. Later today, I was charged $74 for a six hour long bike ride starting from the same station that I left this morning, starting around the same time that I had actually started my bike ride. how would this happen? is someone using my account? Should I just change username and password and hope this would help? Lyft makes it extremely difficult to contact customer service.

2024.05.16 02:02 No_Pause_5310 Advice for my newfound urge to finally lose weight!

Hey all! I'm 26 F, around 5'6"- 5'9" and weigh around 185. I also don't have the money for a trainer or a gym membership.
I decided I wanted to finally get rid of the extra fat I've been glaring at for a while now. Most of it ranges from my stomach to thighs. However, by no means do I have little muscle, I used to lift regularly at my job aka hide a beds, couches, things like that. So it's not all fat per say..
My goal is to get to around 130.
As of two weeks ago I started going to the free gym at my complex, I generally go for 1.5-2 hours and I'm determined to go 3-5 days a week (mainly 4 to 5 but I stand all day at work and I don't want to push my feet too hard as there was one or two days it actually hurt to stand after a short time) I do 30 mins on bike, 30 on treadmill and the rest goes to leg press/extention, then crunches and planks and respective rest time. I think I got a decent system down but I mainly just do the same things every time and listen to my body when it needs a day or tell myself to take a day for everything to heal.
I also changed my diet up a bit. In the mornings/throughout the day I drink a smoothie and I don't have as much potatoes/rice/bagels etc and try to do more veg. I also think I cut down portion sizes for lunch and dinner but I'm not really sure what correct ones are. So I'm in limbo there.
I'm basically looking for advice in any way shape or form to improve what I'm already doing. I'd also like to know any stretches targeting the lower back as a previous injury has flared up a tad with all this working out
Good/better exercises to try (not a lot of equipment ones as there's little to work with at the gym I have)? Meals/portions/snack ideas? Anything and everything is welcome.

MB: While the majority of people that I know don’t specifically trade index rebalancings, we are all impacted by these additions and deletions to some degree or another, so I think it’s important to flag when these rebalancings happen to make the markets seem just a little less random. For those who are unfamiliar, if you consider all the potential buyers of PSE stocks as just one room of buyers in the global “building” of potential buyers, getting added to an index is almost like getting credentials to access an entirely new room of potential buyers. Adding new buyers to the mix will drive up the price of the stock since the number of outstanding shares has not changed, only the number of interested buyers. That’s what is often referred to as “inflow”. Conversely, losing those new buyers will cause a drop in the price as due to the selling pressure from their need to exit their positions in anticipation of the stock losing its “credential” to access the room. That’s “outflow”. I know it’s a goofy analogy, but it can help new traders gain familiarity with all this talk of “inflows” and “outflows” around rebalancing moves.

[UPDATE] CREC changed its IPO date for better feng shui... According to a report by Miguel R. Camus of InsiderPH [link], Citicore Renewable Energy Corp [CREC 3.88 pre-IPO] CEO Oliver Tan said that CREC moved its IPO back by a week to June 7 after consulting with a feng shui expert. Mr. Tan said that June 7 is a more “auspicious” date.

MB: While I’m not a very superstitious person, I understand why these considerations can creep in where the difference between success and failure can so often be attributed to random chance. We’ve seen companies in the past set their maximum IPO price at a number that is thought to carry better “luck”, but it’s hard to look at the history of IPO results and see much good luck in all that red. Good reason? Bad reason? It doesn’t make that much difference to me as an investor, and it likely won’t make any difference to anyone a year or two from now when CREC is listed and the IPO is just a distant memory. Still, thought it was interesting to pass this along since I was lightly speculating on the reason for the date change yesterday.

[DIVS] AREIT declares largest dividend in company’s history... AREIT [AREIT 33.95 ▲0.1%; 116% avgVol] [link] declared a Q1/24 dividend of ₱0.56/share, payable on June 13 to shareholders of record as of May 28. The dividend has an annualized yield of 6.6%, which is a little higher than AREIT’s pre-dividend annualized yield of 6.48%. The total amount of the dividend is approximately 90.3% of the ₱1.47 billion in distributable income that AREIT reported for the period. AREIT’s year-to-date stock and dividend return is now up to 3.32%, and its total return since its IPO is now 54.56%.

MB: That’s 16 straight quarters of stable or growing dividends from AREIT. Their management team has weathered all of the issues and problems that have plagued the commercial REIT sector since the pandemic in 2020 (COVID, inflation, POGOs, etc), and they’ve managed to actually grow the dividend 10 times while doing it. Sure, their yield is the lowest of the REITs on the PSE, but it’s low for a reason: risk (or the relative lack thereof).

[EARNINGS] Apollo Global Q1 net loss: ₱7.9-M (up 32%)... Apollo Global Capital [APL 0.01 ▲10.0%; 6% avgVol] [link] posted a Q1 net loss of ₱7.9 million, which was actually 32% better than its Q1/23 net loss of ₱11.5 million. The company’s Management’s Discussion and Analysis section is still just a “Plan of Operations” because the company still has yet to earn a single peso of revenue from the offshore mining operation that it was supposed to have started in early 2021. APL’s current President, Bonner Dytoc, was appointed back in late 2022 after the company’s previous President resigned.

MB: Longtime readers will know how closely I’ve been following the trials and tribulations of the MB Siphon 1, the vessel that APL allegedly plans to use to eventually conduct its offshore mining. It’s now been 1199 days since APL reported that the MB Siphon 1 was “in position” and “ready to commence operations” before a series of storms, mechanical mishaps, financial transactions, big waves, and training outages conspired to keep the boat from its one and only purpose. I get the sense that even the PSE is getting fed up with the situation, which says a lot considering what they’ve been willing to tolerate from other companies; the PSE officially required APL to disclose the status of the MB Siphon 1 last month, and in response, APL said that the MB Siphon 1 is “currently undergoing its equipment maintenance and continuous enhancements to ensure safety, durability, and operational efficiency.” APL went on to say that it will commission another vessel to “supplement our operations for the year”. And the kicker: APL said that it is “on track to anticipate initial shipments within the second quarter of this year.” On track to anticipate? 60% of the time, that wordplay works every time.

“One moment!” she cried as she dried her hands on a nearby towel. She brushed her palms against her apron and made for the front door. Two familiar faces greeted her on the other side. “Espada! Goose! Come on in!”
Espada offered a curt nod and procured a bottle of dark wine from behind her back. “I know you’re avoiding the stuff, but Goose and I want to have a couple of glasses if you don’t mind.”
Saphira shook her head. “Not at all!”
“Thank you, thank you,” Goose sang as she skipped into Saphira’s home.
Saphira shut the door once they were all inside, then briskly returned to the kitchen, where two pots of stew cooked over her stove. She grabbed a mitten and cupped it over the knob beneath the pot, and pulled open the door. The fire was still going strong, so she nodded and shut it before setting the mitten back to the side.
“It smells delicious,” Espada said, taking a seat on the sofa.
“Thank you. It’s an old recipe of my grandmother’s. I hope you like it.”
“I’m sure it’s amazing.”
Saphira swung open a cabinet above her and plucked two glasses from within, holding them upside down with one hand. Years spent farming meant she had practiced hands, and she took great pride in her ability to accommodate friends and family. Grabbing a wine opener from a nearby drawer, thoughts of the last time she’d shared a glass with Matt pricked her tail. She strolled over to where Espada and Goose were sitting, cheerily humming as she gestured for the bottle of wine in Espada’s hand.
“It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been here,” Espada commented, surrendering the bottle. “Keepin’ busy?”

“Things are quiet lately, what with Matt and his Party gone. Demand for weapons and armor is low without ‘em. So I’ve been working the irrigation and home repairs lately.” Espada shrugged.
“Where’s Tabitha?” Saphira asked. Tabitha was a rambunctious woman, obsessed with dirt and everything beneath it. She had her heart set on being the one responsible for Junonia’s irrigation, and she worked as the village’s carpenter in her off time.
“We’re not sure, but she did mention checking out the other towns on Ni Island. Maybe she just got tired of this place.” Goose shrugged.
“It feels strange to take up her post,” Espada continued. “Not exactly my field of expertise. But it’s a living, and it’s oddly satisfying work. Besides, Goose is makin’ sure I don’t lose my touch.”
Saphira uncorked the bottle and set the opener to the side, blinking. “What does that mean?”
“It means you’re looking at a [Fighter],” Goose said with a toothy grin. “Been hearing all about Matt and his Party from Espada and the other girls, so I thought I’d make my own waves out there.” She emphasized the point by imitating an ocean’s current with her hands.
Saphira smiled. Ni Island wasn’t known for its plethora of adventurers. Most of them ended up calling it quits before Second Class—choosing quieter lives in tending to children, farming, cooking, or living off the land. She couldn’t think of the last time she heard of someone leaving Junonia. Well, except for Matt and his group. “Are you thinking of exploring outside the island?”
Goose shook her head. “Not yet. I’m thinking of hunting some small-time Encroachers for a few Bells. Espada’s been helping me.” She nudged Espada playfully.
Espada chuckled. “She has a good sword arm, so I’ve been teaching her in my off time.”
“Espada, you’re the best I’ve ever seen! You must’ve trained on Nyarlothep,” Goose said.
“Something like that.” Espada had always been tight-lipped about where she came from before she settled on Ni Island. Whenever she was asked, she’d shake her head and change the subject. If anyone pushed too hard, then she’d suggest they go on their way.
Saphira didn’t mind it so much, but she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t curious. Still, it wasn’t her place. She offered her own change of topic as she began to fill Espada and Goose’s glasses. “That’s so exciting, Goose!”
“It feels so good to train and Level. Don’t you think, Saphira?” Goose asked, leaning forward with eager eyes. She watched Saphira pour the wine, gripping the glass’ neck using her first two fingers and her thumb.
Saphira could hardly remember how long she’d dabbled in her Class after her choosing. Every catgirl selected a Class when they came of age, but it was a distant memory to her now. “A-ah… I admittedly don’t remember much.” She giggled and poured Espada’s drink next. “I know that I selected [Scout], though.”
“Huh. I would’ve figured you for a [Chemist] or a [Mage],” Goose said.
“I’d heard from Keke that [Scout]s were good at finding Encroacher parts, so I figured that I might become a leatherworker at some point,” Saphira said. She shook her head. “I’m not one for combat, though. I only ever reached Level 2.”
Goose nodded as she swirled her glass. “That’s our Saphira. Pure to the core.”
Saphira flushed and curled a lock of her hair around her finger. “Hardly.”
“You could charm the evil out of the Defiled,” Espada laughed before draining nearly half her glass.
Saphira wondered if Espada knew that wine was a bit different than ale. “That’s kind of you to say.” She could feel her cheeks growing hotter by the second. “I’m going to finish up dinner.”
By the time the food was ready to be served, Espada and Goose were laughing up a storm. Saphira set three hearty plates on the table, then strolled over to her daughter’s crib. Marie cooed and reached for Saphira’s finger, gripping it tight so as not to fall over.
“You’re so smart!” Saphira said in a high-pitched timbre. “It’s time for dinner!” She reached down and picked Marie up, cradling her in her arms as she approached the table in the living room. It was perfect for the occasion. She’d tried to share dinner with her daughter at the dinner table, but it had proven difficult with its height.
“Thank you for the meal,” Espada said with a nod. She’d finished her wine before dinner and didn’t seem any worse for wear. The same amount would’ve seen Saphira sleeping on the floor within minutes.
“Yeah, thanks!” Goose said.
“You’re welcome,” Saphira smiled as she took a seat across from Espada and Goose. Bouncing Marie on her knee, she plucked a fork from the table, skewered the steamed meozuna greens, and hovered the vegetable over Marie’s head. “Oh, look what I got you!” The kitten batted the air for her mother’s food, grabbing hold of Saphira’s wrist after the third attempt. Marie guided the fork to her mouth, nibbling on the soft veggie, and her tiny ears perked straight up. “Oh, what a good girl! Mommy’s little kitten is so smart!”
Goose and Espada watched with smiles on their faces as they picked at their food. Saphira continued to spoon and fork her food, sharing every other bite with Marie. To her relief, Marie was not a picky eater—Saphira’s mother had always liked to tease her about how fussy she was as a kitten.
“I can’t believe how fast she’s growing,” Goose commented while she wiped at her mouth with a handkerchief.
“I know, isn’t she beautiful?” Saphira glowed. “I love her with all of my heart and soul.” She and Marie touched foreheads, eliciting an excited coo from the kitten.
“It’s still so weird to me that Matt left,” Goose continued. “He’s such a…unique man.”
That was the perfect word for Matt. Saphira had never heard of a man traveling the other islands so quickly, nor had she ever heard of one working with the neighboring islands. It wasn’t unheard of, but she pined for Matt’s smile, his laugh, and his embrace. His presence brought so much hope and life to Junonia, and his absence was sorely felt.
Every day spent without him was another day Saphira spent worrying for his safety. As strong as he was, she feared that his kindness and consideration could bring him harm.
I hope you’re okay, Matt.
Espada snorted. “I can think of a few other words for him.”
Saphira guided another spoonful of potatoes into Marie’s mouth. “What do you mean?”
“We got off to a rough start.” She pushed her empty plate forward and leaned back against the sofa. “I was already pis—” She hesitated, glanced at Marie, then coughed into her fist. “I was in a bad mood that day. So I told him off when he tried to barter.”
Saphira gasped. “Espada!”
In a rare moment, Espada looked uncomfortable. “I work hard on my craft, and I wasn’t about to let him take advantage of me just because he was a man.”
“But they’re here to protect us.”
“I get that,” Espada said, her tone lowering, “I’ve just seen others who flaunt their influence, and I’m not okay with that.”
“I hope you apologized later.”
Espada blinked. “Sure. Yeah, I did.”
Saphira wasn’t quite sure if Espada was telling the truth, but she decided not to pry. “Well, it sounds like you’re on good terms now, then.”
Espada shrugged. “I think so. I gave him a few pointers when I had time.”
“You mean when it was convenient,” Goose jabbed Espada between the ribs playfully. “I know what those words really mean.”
Espada shook her head and rolled her eyes. “Sure you do.”
Marie grabbed one of Saphira’s bangs and pulled her closer. “Aauuooo?”
“Sweetie, you’re hurting Mommy,” Saphira said as she unhooked her daughter’s hand from her hair. She giggled and used her free hand to fix her hair. “You know, I’ve always wondered, Espada.”
“Hm?”
“What brought you to Ni Island? You know so much about weapons and armor, and you learn things so much faster than I would.” She tilted her head inquisitively. “Where did you learn?”
Espada didn’t answer immediately. “I used to work in Nyarlothep as a smith.”
“I knew it!” Goose cried.
A warning glance escaped the corner of Espada’s eyes. Goose quieted, and she continued, “I got tired of my work there and decided to come here instead.”
“A fresh start?”
“You could say that,” she said quickly. Her tone was flat and snappy. “I guess I just got tired of the politics and making weapons and armor for those who didn’t deserve them.”
“Well, I’m glad you decided to come to Ni Island,” Saphira smiled. This was a sensitive topic for Espada, that much she could tell. It was time to let the matter drop. What did it matter, anyway? “It wouldn’t be the same without you.”
Espada’s easy smile returned. “Thanks.”
The room was warm and comforting. As the conversation continued, Saphira eventually let Marie walk around under the condition that Goose sat on the floor with her. It was much easier to keep an eye on a curious kitten with multiple people. The three of them played with Marie, and when it was her bedtime, Saphira placed her daughter back in her crib and kissed her forehead.
“Thank you again for dinner,” Espada said. “It’s been a while since I had such a nice home-cooked meal.”
“You’re so welcome!” Saphira clapped her hands together. “We should do this again sometime.”
“I agree! Maybe next time I’ll bring the meat,” Goose said. “Fresh kill and all that.”
“As long as I don’t have to, well, prepare it.” Saphira swallowed hard. She couldn’t imagine being the one responsible for skinning and bisecting an Encroacher for food. She always left that to the butchers.
“Don’t worry. I could never ask you to do that.”
“Then it’s a plan!”
Espada and Goose waved their farewells, and Saphira shut the door behind them, leaning against its surface when they were gone. The room was quiet now, with only the crackling of the hearth and her daughter’s snores to keep her company. For a few moments, she couldn’t wipe the smile off of her face. She had the family she always dreamed of. Marie was every bit the blessing from Saoirse she imagined.
But the longer she stared, the longer she listened, the more empty the room started to feel. Her hands clenched into fists behind her, and her longing for Marie’s father heightened.
I wish you could see your daughter right now, Matt.

I got back into OSRS a couple years ago for some nostalgia and to try out a bunch of quests/content I could never finish as a kid. It's been a lot of fun playing through stuff I thought was impossible and having random flashbacks strolling through old areas. But there is one area that brings back the most vivid memory every time I'm there of being absolutely lost, confused, and devastated as a 10 or 11 year old kid.
Circa 2004/2005 I was sitting at my parents Dell while they watched a movie on the couch. I had finally convinced them to pay for membership a few months prior after probably a year of free-to-play while all my friends fished in Catherby. I'd gotten through a moderate amount of quests, nothing much crazier than Dragon Slayer, but had gotten some help along the way. Now with my full rune set up and a few gp in my pocket I felt ready to go explore and take on new quests alone.
Karamja seemed really cool and I'd heard my friends talk about this Shilo Village place but I needed to knock Jungle Potion out first. No problem, it seemed pretty straightforward. Nothing I couldn't handle. So I geared up and off I went. It didn't take long wandering through the jungle, opening and closing a map in a separate window on dial-up internet, for something to attack me and my character to start taking scary green damage. I was aware of what poison damage was, and that you could cure it, but without the GE or any clue how herblore worked it wasn't exactly something I kept on hand.
Being barely double digits old I took a deep breath and did the most sensible thing I could think of, which was panic immediately. I didn't want any other players to see I was poisoned and lost, so even if I did know how to get back to a bank at the time I was worried I'd die just before banking in a populated area. I had a ROUGH idea of how death mechanics worked to put it mildly. Being that I was on dial-up, instead of logging off TO call a friend to save me I was convinced I COULDN'T call a friend BECAUSE I'd have to log off. I could barely load any of the few websites that might offer some help as well. So instead I ran around the island, taking more random damage, searching for a vendor or bank, and must have ran past the one man who would have sold me anti-poison 10 times until I finally accepted my fate and hid in a remote corner on the beach. Looking out over the water, I sadly devoured whole lobsters until finally my food, and HP, ran out. I spawned in Lumbridge, stared at my screen for about five minutes, and logged off. I have no clue why I didn't try to get back to where I died, or if in my panic and despair I had lost track of where it even was I had finally died.
I walked over and stood by the couch where my parents were sitting and I must have looked like an investment banker in 2008 because despite disliking RS quite a bit they asked me what happened. I calmly informed them that 'I had lost everything.'
Now whenever I am in Karamja that memory comes back to me and I can't help but laugh. How I managed to make the most irrationally wrong decision at every single turn is hilarious to look back on. I still suck at this game, but it helps to have a functioning brain.

Getting into a hobby is scary, and not always cheap. People throw information at you and it becomes overwhelming. I'll try and keep this as straightforward as possible. Though like all hobbies people have their preferences when it comes to brands/models, and will 100% have a differing opinion on what I've put below. I'll try to keep the cost down, and you also may decide you prefer to go one way or another and save money else where.

Target Audience:-

First and foremost, this post is aimed at people who want to just dip their toe into the lure fishing world, who want to keep it light, and want to catch a range of species and do not really care about catching a 30lb+ Pike.

Rod :-

Type
If just starting out stick with a spinning rod, particularly if you've never even touched a bait caster before. You want to focus on the lure fishing experience, rather than driving an hour to bomb a lure out with a bait caster to have the worst birds nest/backlash ever and have to call it a day!
Length
Rods obviously can be very cheap to incredibly expensive. You obviously get what you pay for. However I will always recommend a rod around 6ft-6ft 5 range. This will cover you for canals, small brooks, rivers of almost all sizes. However may leave you wanting a bit more if fishing large lakes/reservoirs from the banks.
Casting weight This is the weight of the lure that the rod is capable of throwing at maximum efficiency. You can go a bit outside of this range but expect to lose accuracy, casting distance etc. A rod that can cast 1-10g is a good range. 3-18g spinning rods will allow for more variety if you want to try some bigger lures for Pike. Though I'm sure plenty of people here will be able to say how they've caught double figure pike on small 7cm softbait lures.
Action vs Power This topic gets confused a lot. People will interchangeably use the terms or just may not understand it at all.
Action refers to where on the rod the rod starts to bend when pressure is applied. For light lures/jig heads, you typically want an Extra Fast - Fast action rod. Which is what I'll be recommending for someone starting out. These type of rods are usually more sensitive. See image below. Power is usually involved when discussing the rod's capability to cast heavier lures. Heavy rods throw heavy lures essentially. In terms of power I'd recommend a light or a medium-light rod.

Reel

Reels there is not much to say about them, specially for a beginner, go as light as you can. A reel size of a 1000 to 2500 will be absolutely fine. If you find yourself at a lake then maybe go on the upper end of the reel size, but you won't need to go above 2500 at all.

Line: Main Line

Braid vs Mono vs Fluorocarbon.
All I will say is there is a reason why the best anglers have all moved to braid. It simply offers more sensitivity than its counterparts. I would recommend going for something like Sufix/Daiwa J Braid/Berkley Sick braid. I would actually recommend not going too cheap here, and will recommend the X8 versions over the lesser X4 versions. Thom Hunt does a good video on Braid and all the numbers on the packaging, but ultimately why would you skimp on the thing that tells you when you have a bite.

tldr get braid, get X8 (or 8 strand) and just focus on the breaking strain. Around 12lb will do as a main line.

Line: Leaders

This is a hot topic and often controversial. Typically people say "use wire trace if there is pike in the area". I don't know about you guys, but no one can guarantee there is no pike as far as I am aware. Unless maybe fishing a commercial.
From what I've experienced watching YouTube, the general consensus seems to be is: if using treble hooks use a wire trace. Single hooks that have had their barbs crushed should in theory be easy for any fish to throw the hook if for whatever reason you get bitten off. I'll let you decide what you should use where and when.
I personally crush all the barbs on my hooks, I think fishing with barbs is overkill.
Get an 8lb fluorocarbon line for a leader, make it about 2ft in length or so, I'd recommend using an FG knot to tie it to your braid.
If using a wire trace, I'd recommend AFW wire. You can buy it on amazon/predator tackle. You can tie the wire trace directly to your braid or onto your fluoro leader if you wish.
My setup is typically: Braid with an FG knot to a fluoro leader, then I'll use an improved clinch knot to either tie to my hook or I'll use an improved clinch knot to then tie to the wire trace that has loop knot in the end. I really avoid using swivels where I can, they can impact the movement of the lure, particularly something like a jerkbait.

Tackle

Tackle: Buy some standard jig heads, 2-5g with varying hook sizes.
Buy some EWG hooks with some cheb weights, this will allow you to fish weedless. You will probably want 2/0 at a maximum, 3/0 or 4/0 can be used but might be a bit too big/heavy gauge wire.
Lures:

Additional Tools

You will want 12inch forceps, pliers, good pair of hook cutters - test them before you get on the bank! You don't want to be stuck on the bank with pike at your side with hooks stuck between its gill rakers.
Landing net, if fishing rivers you will want one that can extend to a couple of meters. Unhooking mat/weigh sling, you can buy these as a combo, Korum Snapper do a good one.
Scales if you want to weigh your catch but not necessary.
Rod license, Fishing Club membership depending on your waters. Canal and River Trust have a Wanderers Waterways permit which you must have depending on where your fishing - this is only needed if no angling club is renting the stretch of water you are fishing.
