2024.05.16 02:32 DoriSai [LFA] Luyosirth the Dusk Knight (3rd attempt)

[LFA] Luyosirth the Dusk Knight (3rd attempt)

Character Basics

Full Name: Luyosirth dir Welunna Thurkear
Translation: Secret Prophecy of the Darkest Night
Title: Luyosirth the Dusk Knight
Race/Ethnic Group: Abbsins Draaki
Class: WardeDark Knight gestalt with archetypes (something like a reach/ranged switch tank with some dark and holy powers mixing together).
Occupation: Wandering Knight
Character Nature: Noble, prideful, and honorable to a fault, also a of bit money-hungry and rich-boy attitude.

Character Details

Gender: Male
Age/appeared age: Appears to be an adult, probably around 30ish in human terms.
Facial Features: His black horns might be tipped with silver or platinum or adorned with jewelry perhaps. He also bears a brand of some sort on his forehead, a mark that most would recognize as that of an oathbreaker.
Hair: May have white hair of whatever style you wish or not, up to you.
Eyes: Violet serpentine/draconic eyes with black sclera.
Distinguishing Marks: Feel free to add a few scars if you wish, and his palms would bear the same brand as on his forehead if they're visible.
Significant item: He has a fist sized obsidian orb with silver flecks/impurities that he is adding intricate engravings and inlays to over time, slowly turning it from an average gem to a ludicrously expensive masterpiece as the campaign goes on. It is usually kept close to him in a belt pouch though he may occasionally have it out to admire or fiddle with.
Body Type: Absolutely massive, he stands around 8'2" and weighs around 420 lbs of pure muscle and scale.
Color Scheme: His scales would be predominantly black, but not black as pitch more like something dusky that could easily blend in with shadows. He would also have a preference for silver or platinum jewelry metals and black or violet gems. His clothes would stick to darker color schemes in general but may vary to taste.
Primary Weapon: His weapon, Yowsand Resksulthamuul (tl: Lotus Piercing the Void), is a strange void-black polearm that even in his hands seems quite large, its many-bladed spiraling spear tip separates in the center for the barrel of a wide-bore firearm. The whole weapon has a vague lotus thematic to it and though it seems capable of functioning both at range and in melee it seems a bit heavy at the tip and may be difficult to maneuver quickly. If it weren't a magical construct almost literally made of shadows and darkness, its sheer size would likely make it impossible to carry for most let alone wield properly. While it is technically possible to have a proper physical version of this gun-spear weapon it was designed by a highly secretive religion almost exclusively for him to shape his akashic weapon into so any physical instances of this particular exotic weapon are kept in mystery.
Other Gear: Though he is a "starting" adventurer he has a long past that he's trying to put behind him. As such he has put aside almost all of his earlier possessions, keeping just enough to start a new life. He wears no armor, only light and well tailored clothes with the occasional flashy trimming or fashionable accessory (though as he adventures these clothes will become finer and the jewelry more elaborate). Aside from a silver signet ring he may also be seen wearing a silver pendant with a black lotus on it.
Action/Pose: He has a rather stalwart and battle ready stance at all times, something like the stance of a soldier relaxing during a lull in battle.
Others: He is capable of using both his large tail and any other part of his body to defend himself even without his weapon in hand, and while he would frequently repair or replace his expensive attire it may be slightly damaged from time to time depending on the circumstances.

Character Persona

Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Personality Traits: Very prideful and honorable, though he is clearly carrying the heavy weight of past sins. Has a pretty strong "dragon greed" streak and while he's not exactly the type to take from others (anymore) he is loath to part with coin or jewels and definitely prefers the finer things in life. He follows something like a Bushido code and is learning to embrace balance and self perfection as well as to appreciate the beauty in darkness instead of wielding its powers for evil.
Ideals and Goals: He primarily seeks to redeem himself, if not in the eyes of the world than at least in his own eyes and perhaps the eyes of the goddess who pulled him from the path of evil. For right now he is focusing on doing all he can to protect the lives of others and embrace the ideals of his goddess Xan Yae .
Bonds and Flaws: Due to some of his past deeds and some of the forbidden knowledge he obtained he is almost perpetually on edge and at least slightly uncomfortable. His greed can often be a challenge for him to cope with and though he does prefer finer clothes he absolutely refuses to wear armor or any sort of heavy clothing, even if doing so would save his life.

Other

Visual concepts: Overall his race has little to no art from what I can find so I'm vaguely equating it the various types of Dragonborn throughout D&D. His specific breed is described as having a large tail they can attack with so that is pretty important. Other than that the concept is pretty vague right now as I haven't been able to find anything I'm really satisfied with. In the attached reference three of the upper right pictures are AI I found while searching for dragonborn or anthro dragon art, and the one with the long white hair is an image of the drow-dragon (or zekyl) from the Forgotten Realms, seeing as how the Draaki can transform into a drow appearance I thought it was fitting to include. The bottom right image is included mostly because it's an unarmored dragonborn-looking thing with a fancy polearm and I kinda like his proud attitude too (also I've always been fond of harem pants lol). The other included polearm references are also just pretty vague ideas, the polearm itself doesn't even need to look practical so feel free to fantasy it up a bit.
https://preview.redd.it/oyzefs6boo0d1.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&s=6404f4e51d29e64a0e2810b07ff0304551446492
Backstory: Luyosirth doesn't discuss his distant past with anyone, for any reason, though it is pretty clear he did some bad things. As it is he is a known oathbreaker and has a bit of an unspoken reputation for having done terrible things. Through the guidance of Xan Yae (and a bit of help from an organization that gives villains and oathbreakers a "second chance") he is trying to put his life back on track. He has connected with several organizations that have strict regimented codes of honor and rules and is using this as a bit of a crutch to keep himself in check, not exactly trusting himself without the threat of many powerful warriors hanging over his head. This has eventually led to him training with and swearing allegiance to the knights of Varisia, and though he doesn't have any specific station as of yet he is expected to protect the citizenry and answer the call when needed. At the start of this campaign he is returning to the town of Sandpoint where he spent much of his earlier years and even through his dark times it was a place he visited frequently. Though the local sheriff is absolutely keeping his eye on the hulking black dragonfolk, Luyosirth is doing his best to make amends. Surprisingly, aside from the sheriff, many of the townsfolk seem willing to forget the past. In fact he quickly made fast friends with the proprietor of the Rusty Dragon tavern, one well known to cater to adventurers of all walks of life. As the campaign starts Luyosirth would be preparing some of his finest clothes for the upcoming Swallowtail Festival in Sandpoint.

2024.05.16 02:29 TheAmethystEmpress What are your thoughts on the Rhaenicent "relationship" and do you think the show will deliver?

I ask because I have noticed a large discrepancy on the liking of the pain throughout different social media platforms. The pairing seems to be much more favored on Tik-Tok and Twitter than it is here and Facebook/Instagram. I suspect it comes down to the generational views on same-sex couples (Gen Z is much more embracing than Millennials and Gen X but they are not the target audience of HBO shows). I can't help but think it's all queer-baiting as I don't know if the show will have Rhaenyra and Alicent actually be intimate. Rhaenyra has been in love with Daemon forever (even though it's incredibly problematic) and while I got a bit of a queer vibe from Milly's performance, I didn't really see it with Emma's. Do you think HOTD will actually break canon to that extent and have them be actual lovers?

2024.05.16 02:28 TacocaT_2000 Debunking the “The One Piece world is the size of our sun” claim.

Debunking the “The One Piece world is the size of our sun” claim.
Every claim that the One Piece world is bigger than Earth comes from one major thing.

Alabasta chain scaling

Every bit of “proof” that I’ve seen boils down to “Alabasta is big (which it is, don’t get me wrong), and because it’s depicted as small on a map of the Grand Line, it must mean that the planet is massive.”
Now, there’s a few issues with that line of thinking. Alabasta is large, that isn’t up for debate, but the map that everyone uses doesn’t accurately portray the number, size, or even shape of the islands. Canonically Luffy took the middle path, which means that it’s the red path.
Okay, so let’s count how many islands Luffy visited since leaving Reverse Mountain. In the Alabasta Saga we have Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, Drum Island, and Alabasta. In the Sky Island Saga we have Jaya and Skypeia, which are counted as a single island by the Log Pose. In the Enies Lobby Saga we have Long Ring Long Land, Water 7, and Enies Lobby. In the Thriller Bark Saga they don’t actually visit an island. In the Summit War Saga they go to Sabaody, which is where all the paths merge on the first half of the Grand Line. That makes 9 islands that Luffy visited, 10 if you count Jaya and Skypeia as different islands, and 11 if you count Thriller Bark.
Yet the middle path on the map has 14 islands. That immediately discounts its validity for anything except giving a vague explanation of the different Log Pose paths one can take.
As for the shape and size, Long Ring Long Land is a hollow ring yet it’s nowhere to be seen on the map; and Jaya is much smaller than Alabasta, yet the map used suggests they’re relative in size.
“But Luffy could have skipped islands!”
Not possible. Crocus is quite clear on the subject. You can’t skip islands and expect to find the next one, that was shown in the Sky Island Saga.

2024.05.16 02:15 phdr_vrba Another Bohemian Paradise map speculation, because 🤷‍♂️

So that's roughly what I'd expect the map in KCD2 be like - that is with some shrinking/cuts to the landscape taken into account. Besides that, the map corners offer some further options:
So, uh, yea. This was kinda sitting in my head for a while and I wanted to throw it out there.

2024.05.16 02:13 changie808 Looking to recreate

Looking to recreate
Hi everyone!
I’m looking to re-create the stunning dress by Loewe. I’ve never made a dress before, but I would love the challenge.
I do have a couple of questions though, and I’m hoping this community can help me solve them.
Current process :
  • find the type of yarn used
  • find some sort of pattern for a sundress? (If anyone has one they love, I would be so appreciative!)
Questions:
Does it look like the dress was made in one piece? Or it was crocheted in sections and then stitched together, maybe with a machine?
Adjusting for size- I’m not the size of the girl in the pictures, I’m larger and have a large bust so would have to make adjustments. Does anyone have any tips for adjusting patterns to suit specific body types?
Thank you all for your help in advance!!!!

2024.05.16 02:11 YardFudge Combo wrench buying logic

When buying a lifetime / pro set of wrenches, is this logic legit?
BUT… if weight/size constrained for a decade (due to college, pre-house, etc) THEN it’s schmarter to buy the Second ratcheting set first, but of better quality & both metric & SAE.
(Yes — full, easy, local warranty; Project Farm & Torque Test Channel rated; good store reviews; it’s known you’ll use tools forever; buy on sale after tracking prices, yada yada… this question is more about the thought process than make-model.)
And the great minds of Reddit say….

2024.05.16 02:06 docheartstealer Is a mini tower a good choice for a first build?

Hi everyone, I'm really wanting to build a PC after being a MacBook user since high school :) I'm really mainly going to use it for work and playing older games that I have (portal, Skyrim, assassin's creed 1-4, sims, etc) and games like genshin impact, Dreamlight valley, etc. I already have a PS5 for AAA games. Here is the parts list I put together. I just wanted to get opinions on if a mini PC is a good idea for a beginner, or should I go with a full size tower? I just don't have a ton of desk space in my tiny apartment. Also, will building in a mini tower make it hard to upgrade in a few years (like when the PS6 would eventually come out...?) to play next gen AAA games? Please let me know if I'm overspending for what I want to use the PC for. Thanks in advance! :)

2024.05.16 02:04 orange_bandit Which animal suffers the most from human level intelligence?

I see a lot of posts here about how much animals could defeat x opponent or even take over the world if they had human-like intelligence, but I have to consider that such a change would actually be a detriment to a lot of them. Like the Genie's phenomenal cosmic power, human intelligence comes with a lot of problems: fear, morality, doubt, irrationality etc.
For example, ants with human intelligence would surely cease to exist in any recognisable form almost immediately (crawling around in a dark tunnel, pressed against thousands of others, while waiting for the next attack by a creature 100 times your size sounds like hell, to say nothing of the immediate loss of specieal cohesion (what about the ants that just want to write novels, or decide they want to control the means of production?). Octopuses, another common beneficiary of the human intelligence monkey's paw, seem similarly bound to extinction if the change were made: the depths of the ocean are terrifying, and their lifespans inherently short. I could see octopuses inventing undersea vodka and just drinking themselves into a stupor trying to dull the pain of their too brief existence.
So, in this way of thinking, which animals suffer the most if given human intelligence?

2024.05.16 01:58 AlexWyDee How do you handle sizing for components in Figma?

Looking to see how others manage size (specifically height) variation for components in your design systems. I'm interested to know what is best practice here. I personally find it more flexible to have variants for sizes but the total number of components skyrockets.
For example:
I do feel like the flexibility but this feels like a TON of variants.
Do code component libraries store variables for size? Or am I just being super extra here?...

Issues Porting Basic to my 6502
Having issues getting ms basic ported to my 6502. I think there is two problems here. 1) my pointers for my keyboard input buffer are getting corrupted when I start basic(hence the weird garbage after MEMORY SIZE?), I think the address space should be safe though? 2) I don't think my keyboard input is making it back to basic although I can see it on my screen.

https://preview.redd.it/hpxxf6mjho0d1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=137a90471f83f7b4c08991ab7243369bac79fa5c
I have deviated from Ben's build a couple ways but it's not significantly different.
  1. I'm using an esp32 with fabgl through a 6522 VIA for video output (no tiny lcd or serial)
  2. I've AND'd A14,A13,A12,A11 going to the nand gate with A15 (I thought i would end up with more but memory tests RAM is valid to 6FFF)
  3. I'm not running wozmon, I have custom monitor program/BIOS thats functionally similar to wozmon though ... for now but plans to expand.
I've integrated memory testing into the monitor based on NormalUsers code from this post: https://www.reddit.com/beneatecomments/1bwhm7z/not_able_to_run_basic_on_my_6502_compute and its clean. I've also tried the double inverted clock but I doubt that's the issue. I suspect I'm missing a couple things.
I've validated that sometime after "JMP COLD_START" (called from os.s) my pointers KBD_RPTR and KBD_WPTR are no longer the same as the should be which is why I get the initial garbage on the screen. They are defied as $00 and $01. In my defines I have ZP_START1 = $20 and 2 $2A 3 $80 and 4 $8B. I'm wondering if there is something else I'm missing I tried grep'ing around the repo a bit and didn't see anything other than a couple immediates.
The second problem is I don't think basic is getting any of my return values. They output on the screen and I think functionally this is doing what Ben's code is to the serial. If I understand correctly it should exit with register A being the ASCII code of the key pressed and the carry bit should be set if there was in put and cleared if not. Also it should echo to the display.

2024.05.16 01:55 TheGoldenLeaper Enravel Overview

Enravel (Seattle)
Date of Incorporation: 9/14/2009
Governing Persons: Rony Abovitz (Governor); Scott Henry (Governor); Anastasia Lang; Richard Taylor; Jennifer Fitzpatrick; Joseph Tsai https://www.sos.wa.gov/corps/business.aspx?ubi=602954597
Enravel, which presented at the April Innovation Showcase, followed up the presentations with an update and product demo. The company, led by UW mechanical engineer Brian Schowengerdt [former UW & Microvision employee], has developed a laser-based “pico projector” that could be built into mobile electronics like cell phones, digital cameras, and even eye glasses. The 1 mm x 9 mm projector —about the size of a grain of rice—uses “scanning fiber” technology to then scan an image from the device, and project an enlarged image back onto a larger surface, like a wall. The company, which has put most of its resources into developing the projection technology so far, plans to now turn its focus to streamlining the light source modulator to improve image quality.
https://xconomy.com/seattle/2010/07/15/technology-alliance-showcases-four-new-companies-in-biotech-and-cleantech-and-revisits-one-past-presente2/
Linden Rhoads [at the time Vice Provost-IP, Commercialization, Innovation at the University of Washington] introduced this startup by pulling out her iPhone and iPad (yes, one of those) and talking about the devices’ display capabilities. “These are great, these are fun, but they’re going to be so much more fun when there are projectors available for them,” she said. “That day is very, very close at hand.”
Enravel is led by UW mechanical engineer Brian Schowengerdt, an expert in alternative displays, user interfaces, and human visual perception. He co-founded the company in 2009 to commercialize a laser-based “pico projector.” The idea, he says, is to “take a display of iPad size and compress it into the size of an iPhone.” More specifically, to shrink a projector to “the size of a grain of rice” and use it to project on-screen images, video, games, websites, e-mail—you name it—onto any larger surface.
The core technology is a “scanning fiber” projector that uses fiber optics and a vibrating element to scan an image and blow it up, for example, to a size of 17 inches across from just five inches away. A matchbook-size assembly of laser diodes (off the shelf) provides the light source to project the image. You could imagine such a projector might be crammed into a smartphone and used anytime you want a bigger display to interact with, for reading text or watching a video, say.
Enravel has five employees, and its technology was built over the past few years using $8 million in funding for a related endoscopic imaging project (led by Eric Seibel) and $100,000 in grants. The company expects to finish its portable prototype by next month, and to have a standalone product by the end of next year.

The scanning fiber endoscope is an ultrathin and flexible endoscope for the early detection and treatment of cancers within the body. The SFE can be used as a surveillance device with the goal of improving our chances of survival from cancer.
A scanning fiber endoscope is a technology that uses a flexible, small (< 6Fr) peripheral or coronary catheter to provide wide-field, high-quality, full-color, laser-based video imaging. These differences distinguish SFE applications from current imaging approaches such as IVUS and Intracoronary OCT. Applications for the device (which was pending FDA review and approval as of 2017[needs update]), are expected to include medical diagnosis and support in determining interventional treatments such as surgery or biopsy. Providing both full-color images and a wide-field, real-time surgical view into the inner depths of arteries, enables physicians to circumnavigate hard to reach internal tissues to assess for potential disease.
REDMOND, WA (August 26, 2019) – VerAvanti, a developer of a new class of scientifically-advanced solutions to help physicians find answers to treat strokes and heart attacks that often strike without warning, today announced that its new subsidiary, Avanti, has opened a Nanofabrication facility in Bothell, Washington. The facility includes a 9,300 S.F. ISO 9001 cleanroom, the second largest in Washington State.
The first-of-its-kind facility on the Eastside will support high-volume component production of wafers and chips with nanoscale features. Because of the inconceivably tiny parts made from unconventional materials, these components aren’t practical, economical or even possible to fabricate at commercial foundries. The lab capabilities include photolithography, wet and dry etch, atomic layer deposition, Sputtering, Deep Reactive Ion Etching, scanning electron microscopy, Multiphysics simulation, design, and proprietary piezoelectric fabrication. The Avanti Nanofabrication will provide services to VerAvanti and the other businesses seeking these specialized services.
VerAvanti Founder and CEO, Gerald McMorrow explained why VerAvanti launched its new nanofabrication subsidiary. McMorrow stated, “The opening of the Avanti Nanofabrication facility enables VerAvanti to manufacture its patented Scanning Fiber Endoscope (SFE), a new, extremely small imaging modality designed to access small arteries to illuminate stroke and cardiovascular risks.” With the price point advantages this subsidiary enables, VerAvanti is positioning for a highly competitive market launch of its innovative SFE device.
About VerAvanti
Founded in 2013, privately-held VerAvanti is using advanced science and automation to commercialize the world’s first Scanning Fiber Endoscope (SFE)), to help physicians close treatment gaps and proactively identify interventions for the 200,000 individuals (U.S.) who suffer ischemic strokes due to an unknown cause1. Protected by more than 30 patents licensed by VerAvanti, the SFE is a micro-imaging catheter equipped with an extreme depth of focus camera that provides physicians a previously unseen surgical view into hidden intravascular anatomy, enabling more proactive diagnosis and treatment of individuals at-risk for stroke and cardiovascular events. Crazy suggestion to give the Tenderizer medium armor penetration and the Adjudicator burst fire mode. Then swap their weapon models.
Saw the CEO’s post on the identity crisis with assault rifles and the two that immediately came to my mind as feeling mix-matched were the Tenderizer and the Adjudicator. The Tenderizer looks like a heavy assault rifle and feels like a worse smg when compared to the Liberator but giving it medium armor penetration with some recoil would make it the Liberator Penetrator we all wanted. The Adjudicator sounds and feels like a heavy assault rifle but looks like a futuristic gun with some quirks and giving it burst fire would solidify it as a heavy hitter with a small mag size. Now, swapping the weapon models would be crazy but these changes might just give them the personality they need to stand out in the sandbox. Not a game dev myself or that familiar with damage breakpoints but I also came up with some tweaked stats and a new description that fit the changes.
AR-61 Tenderizer: An experimental weapon recently developed by SEAF, the AR-61 Tenderizer fires “needle-like”rounds that pierce armor and create minuscule recoil. However, with relatively low destructive power, sustained fire and rapid …reloading is recommended. Damage: 64, Capacity: 35, Recoil: 15, Fire Rate: 600. Semi-Auto and Full-Auto firing modes. 10 magazines per resupply.
BR-14 Adjudicator: A heavy-hitting, armor-penetrating rifle, the BR-14 Adjudicator delivers righteous judgment to medium-sized enemies, though its restrictive magazine size and intense recoil limit its effectiveness against large groups. Damage: 90, Capacity: 24(8 burst), Recoil: 40, Fire Rate: 550 Semi-Auto and Burst firing modes. 8 magazines per resupply.

2024.05.16 01:49 Due47 Help me decide!!

Hey guys, I have two offers as an entry level candidate:
  1. Expense FP&A (own the full P&L) at a large regional REIT. ~80k all in. Bad benefits (3weeks PTO is all), 100% in person. I actually started here a week ago (before I received the 2nd offer) and am really enjoying the exposure and team culture. I get the feeling that being in person helps expedite a career.
  2. Hybrid accounting/FP&A role at a F500 live events company. ~75k all in, full remote, great benefits. It’s my “dream industry” but seems to have less exposure given the size of the company.
Which seems the better choice? Would love to hear advice from you all. Thanks so much!

2024.05.16 01:48 Altruistic_Engine818 My Headcanons about other New California Republic Cities in SoCal

I thought it would be a fun idea to write out my headcanons for the other, unmentioned settlements/cities in the New California Republic. As a SoCal native, I thought it would also be fun seeing how some notable cities in the region would look in the fallout universe. I’ve only included places in Southern California because I honestly don’t have too much detailed knowledge about central/northern CA cities.
I tried fitting it in with the lore at the time of New Vegas in 2281, but there might be a few mistakes here and there.

San Diego Area

-Camp Pendleton: Controlled by one of the largest Raider groups of SoCal, cutting off entry to the San Diego area from the 5 Freeway. Uses restored Vertiberds, Power Armor, and APCs left over by the Marines after the war. Because of this, they are an extremely valuable target for the Brotherhood of Steel, though they have not launched a full-scale attack due to fears of high casualties. This, along with manpower shortages in the region due to the the situation in the Mojave, has prevented the NCR from conducting operations as well. Many in the San Diego area have discussed creating a temporary alliance between Settlers/NCR, the BOS, and the Temecula Super Mutants, though the feasibility of that seems a bit low.
-Escondido: Settlement located along the former 15 freeway and acts as a trade settlement on the way to San Diego. Population: 400. Facing raider attacks from nearby Camp Pendleton and feeling like they’ve been failed by the NCR, some local leaders have considered asking the Temecula Super Mutants to assist in a joint assault on the camp. Population: 500.
-San Diego: Though one of the founding states of the New California Republic, San Diego, now known as Dayglow, is severely underfunded and underdefended compared to other States. Some say this is because of its distance from the capital, others says its because of continued discriminiation towards Ghouls and Super Mutants who helped found the settlement. Despite this, it still operates as a thriving scrap hub and exports many of the materials used by NCR soldiers, vehicles, and machinery. Many smaller settlements still exist in areas farther from downtown, the most major of which include El Cajon, Chula Vista, and Miramar. The latter is the main NCR facility in the area, and has been requesting additional support from Shady Sands to help defeat the Camp Pendleton Raiders. Though having the threat of Raiders in the northwest as well as threats of increased radiation exposure from the Glow in the northeast, many of these settlements are some of the most advanced in the NCR due to the pre-war governance and technology maintained by the descendants of Vault 72. Located near Balboa Park, Vault 72 is the only known vault in the area. Though initially an experiment vault, like Vault 81 in the Commonwealth, its operations were cut short, in this case after a mutiny against the scientists and Overseer by the inhabitants, many of whom were Ex-military due to the Vault’s close distance to the San Diego Navy Yards. For the next century and a half, Vault 72 acted as a control vault. Eventually, its systems started to fail, and many of its inhabitants exited the vault in search of new settlements, bringing the technology and infrastructure found in the vaults with them. As the New California Republic expands, there have been rumors among NCR soldiers about restoring some of the abandoned Navy ships in the former San Diego harbor, though nothing has been completely confirmed. The Brotherhood of Steel also seeks to acquire former military technology in the area, but has been unable to do so.

Inland Empire

-Riverside: Home to “Rubidoux,” a mid-sized NCR town with a population of about 1,000. Located on the base of Mt. Rubidoux. The Mission Inn, located in the former downtown, is now utilized as an NCR armory and base. Possible plans to rebuild more of downtown have been discussed by local leaders, but not implemented. Vault 54 is located near Rubidoux on the base of Box Springs Mountain. It is a rare control vault with around 800 living citizens, and has been frequently trading with the nearby Rubidoux settlement since its opening in around 2245.
-San Bernardino: Took the most nuclear strikes out of all cities in SoCal’s Inland Empire during the Great War. Due to this, Feral Ghoul encounters are common in the area, though their population has been dwindling in recent years due to Rubidoux settlers and NCR forces slowly clearing up the area, mainly to help caravans from the area safely travel the 215 freeway to reach high desert settlements.
-Temecula: Reclaimed by former Master Super Mutants into a small settlement, population of 50. Do not mind caravans using the former 15 freeway that goes through the city to reach the San Diego area.
-Hemet: Thriving farm town. Decently isolated from the SoCal sprawl, Hemet is relatively sleepy and peaceful. Supplies a decent amount of crops to the IE region. Nothing really interesting about it besides that. Population: 300.

Desert Regions

-Idyllwild: Used as a training ground for NCR soldiers due to its isolation in the mountains.
-Palm Springs: Run by the remnants of the Agua-Caliente, Cabazon, and Morongo Native American Tribes. Due to its strategic prominence, being south of the Mojave and west of Arizona, as well as its proximity to the Idyllwild training grounds and routes to Shady Sands, it has become popular with many NCR higher-ups, many of whom own second homes in the town. Population: 1,000. Vault 93: Located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. Experimental vault studying the effects of celebrity influence. A dozen celebrities were selected among the 900 civilians who entered the vault, where factions aligning with each of them divided up the leadership inside. No holotapes have been found showing what happened next, though it is to assume that whatever played out led to Vault 93 being opened and vacated. Though considered by the NCR to be repurposed, it sits abandoned, now silently overlooking the Sonoran wastes.

Orange County

-Huntington Beach: Inhabited by the descendants of the Children of the Cathedral, who founded a settlement in what was Huntington Beach after the destruction of the Cathedral in Long Beach and the end of the Unity project in 2162. Though they tend to keep to themselves, there are still some devout Unity believers who kidnap caravans travelling along the former 405 freeway in order to adopt them into the cult and keep the population afloat (They don’t have any FEV to make Super Mutants). Population: 100.
-Irvine: Largely an NCR base centered around the former John Wayne Airport, though there are a decent amount of civilians who have set up shop to cater to the large soldier population. The 452nd Battalion is stationed at the airport, though their numbers have dwindled due to transfers to the Mojave. This has made them unable to respond to the Camp Pendleton Raiders. Population (including soldiers): 2,000.
-San Clemente: A “Ghoul only” settlement ran by wealthy pre-war Ghouls who maintain the area. Despite the exclusivity, it has maintained a population of over 1,000 mainly by bringing in other Ghouls from Orange County and the surrounding area. Mainly keeps to themselves though they accept caravans for trade, though less have been showing up due to the threat of the Camp Pendelton Raiders.

2024.05.16 01:47 cmillington Patio questions

Patio questions
Hi! I'd like to build a patio here. Roughly 14 feet x 14 feet. I'm a carpenter so have a wide array of tools and building experience, but don't have any experience with patios.
I'm wondering: how long would you expect to spend just putting in a patio this size? Would you need to build in extra support somehow to support a pergola?
I haven't decided yet on what type of brick or pavers to use, but it will need to drain fairly readily.

2024.05.16 01:41 pingidjit13 What is the big X in the terrain?

Found a giant dirt X in the terrain in a plains biome. Anyone know what this is? I dug down but just below was a large rock I could mine for stone, and then nothing but more terrain. It very clearly was an X, straight lines, etc. So it must be intentional but this is a single player world...
