2024.06.09 18:43 SkeletorsPanther I Find Patent # US8606819B2 Very Interesting in Relation to $GME and The Market in General

Imagine all the applications and implications of this patent.
Here is a summary of the US patent by Chat GPT below:
US patent US8606819B2 is titled "Method and System for Generating Automated Trade Execution Orders in a Stock Exchange." It describes a system and method for automatically generating trade execution orders in a stock exchange based on predefined trading rules and conditions.
The patent outlines a computer-implemented method where trading rules and conditions are input into a trading system. This system monitors market data and executes trade orders automatically when predefined conditions are met. The method includes steps such as receiving market data, applying trading rules to the market data, generating trade orders based on the rules, and sending the trade orders for execution.
Potential applications of this technology in the market include:
  1. Algorithmic Trading: The patent is relevant to algorithmic trading systems that automate trade execution based on predefined strategies. It can be used by institutional investors, hedge funds, and other market participants to execute trades efficiently and at high speeds.
  2. Risk Management: Automated trade execution systems can incorporate risk management parameters to control exposure and mitigate potential losses. The technology described in the patent can help in implementing such risk management strategies.
  3. Market Making: Market makers can use automated systems to continuously quote bid and ask prices and execute trades based on predefined algorithms. This improves liquidity in the market and enhances market efficiency.
  4. High-Frequency Trading (HFT): The system described in the patent is relevant to high-frequency trading strategies where trades are executed at very high speeds based on algorithmic rules. It enables rapid decision-making and execution in fast-paced trading environments.
  5. Trade Automation: Individual traders or investment firms can use this technology to automate their trading strategies, reducing manual intervention and improving execution efficiency.
Overall, the patent US8606819B2 represents a technological advancement in automated trade execution systems, with applications across various segments of the financial markets, including algorithmic trading, risk management, market making, high-frequency trading, and trade automation.
Just think about it. Is this considered fair trading? Well, I guess some people think it is considering that the patent was granted. Right?
Fact of the matter is that "The patent grant confers “the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling the invention throughout the United States or importing the invention into the United States."
How fair is that in the context of a public stock market?

I then transitioned to a broad spectrum of skills acquired through the passion of game creation on Roblox - Formerly a Lead Developer for an indie game studio known as '[studio]', which was a project known for creating fun games for children, that gathered 1 million group members, and over 75 million game plays through a platform known as Roblox. These games generated a collective $70KUSD over the course of their popularity combined (20% of revenue was cycled back as advertisement funding). Through this community that was developed, we were able to raise over $6.5KUSD to help fund small indie projects from other smaller development groups. - Among many other games I created music for, one in particular is worth noting: 'Doors', amassing 4.9 Billion plays since 2021, has reached the screen of nearly every kid that is playing video games today. - Collaborated with popular online celebrities (YouTube, TikTok) on making games and experiences for their communities, some of which have billions of views and millions of followers. - I am a contributed developer to other popular games and projects with 2.6 Billion collective plays. I fulfilled various roles in these projects, such as game design, Front and Back-End programming (Luau/Lua 5.5+ & Typescript), 3D Artwork/Video Animation (using programs Blender, Photoshop, Premiere Pro/Sony Vegas, and After Effects), Music Design, Character & Object Animation, Architecture, and Voice Acting. Many of these games are a major source of income for the developers involved, such as "My Restaurant!" (of which I did 3D & 2D graphic design for), a game with ~800M plays, created by a studio known as BIG Games, which is the highest grossing development group on the platform. I connected to these groups and Studios through the Roblox Dev Forum, a company known as "Hidden Developers", Twitter, and my personal website. Through these projects, I nurtured my passion to create, and developed several solo passion projects for my own personal enjoyment. - Bug Tested various other games over several years, solving issues for experiences that went on to have hundreds of thousands of concurrent players. I am also a former member of the Official Roblox QA Team (before it was disbanded), which tested upcoming features to the platform. I have since been very active on their Developer Forum, helping all creators (young and old) solve issues and create awesome games. - Although my game development has slowed, I am currently working on a large game that will show the hardship of Schizophrenia and Social Outcasting through intricate storytelling. I intend to release this game on multiple platforms, such as Steam. - Created a Roblox Plug-in that detects Backdoors and vulnerabilities within games, preserving user data and game integrity. This plug-in has been used by nearly 300 developers thus far. - Created my own file syncing program using C++ via Visual Studio Code, that analyzes computer folders for identical information and can delete it or sync data from one folder to another (if not identical). This program has been used by my friends, but I did not publish it online. - Created a Discord Bot with custom commands for the Interbyte Studios Community server (18k members). This application allowed the community to interact and have a recreational token and minigame system for engagement and bonding. This bot was initially created in Python, but was then completely revamped in Javascript via Node.js (with some minor html for some special features.) - Created a customized theme for Canvas and Roblox using the "Stylish" extension, coded in CSS. - Utilizing BetterDiscord, I created my own lock screen for the Discord application to protect my computer from siblings and/or any environment I am working in. This came with a customized theme among other features, such as a built-in Spotify controller (play/pause, skip, and tuning into what others are listening to), and it synced up with my Discord Bot in my own server, allowing me to see the statistics (account age, user ID, etc.), and possible rule infractions of a given user within the community. This was coded in Javascript (Node.js), CSS, and HTML (for embedding purposes). This served to speed up the moderation and disciplinary side of my community, but also improve the efficiency of the Discord application.
Awards & Honor Groups: - x2 Academic Letter, Top PreACT at School - Outstanding Solo-Ensemble Award w/ 1st Place for self-composed, led, and performed Marimba Duet - Superior (1) Rating at District Music Contest for Marimba Duet - x1 Music Letter (only offered at former school) - Outstanding Jazz Soloist Drum Set at State - Outstanding Jazz Soloist Piano at State - Nominated Ambassador of Music (International Program) - All-City Percussion - All-State Jazz & Concert Band Acceptance (Committed to Jazz) - [College w/ International Jazz Program] Jazz Band Performer - State Finalist VEX Robotics (Freshman) - Nationals Runner-Up VEX Robotics (Sophomore) - Honor Thespian
In essays I hope to write about my aspirations to create The Iron Giant and how Robotics is an art. I am also planning to write about how my downfall in Freshman and sophomore years re-shaped the way a school district functions forever, and my recovery and discovery of ambition.
I'd like to know what colleges would accept me (I really want a shot at T30 or so) and what would be good for me. I would also appreciate any and all advice for my resume and what I should do for LORs, or any aspect at all.

2024.06.09 18:29 PleasantActuator6976 Would you do anything differently?

Parents getting older and eyeing retirement finally woke me up and made me realize that I need to start planning for the future.
I recently created a Fidelity account and applied for a 2% cash back card that will put a few bucks back into the account.
I also created a cash management account and Roth IRA.
I plan on keeping the majority of my funds in the cash management, periodically adding a few hundred to the Roth every month, and diversifying with some stocks.
I already have 100 in Nvidia and would like to add another 100.
As a 1099/self employed, I need to take advantage of tax deductions and decided to avoid getting into an HYSA right now.
Should I be doing anything else? Should I open a 401 as well?

2024.06.09 18:25 ayic Rational discussion on the 75m share offering

Long time lurker and x,xxx holder here, have been buying and holding for the past 3 years. This is the first time for me to post something on reddit except for my DRS post. I can't quite wrap my head around on the recent 75m share offering and would like to invite you all for a rational discussion.
I can think of some scenarios whereby an additional 75m offering is needed on top of the 45m, but they all point to poor planning (I am not here to bash Ryan Cohen and the board, I think they did a great job to turn the business around and I am still planning to keep on buying and holding, I only want visibility on the direction that the company is going)
Scenario 1
Gamestop was in talk with a potential acquisition target, say "Company A", and they did not have enough cash, therefore the 45m offering. The initial offer was to purchase less than 100% stake, but as the conversation goes GME wanted to own more stake, and hence the additional 75m ATM on Friday.
Scenario 2
On top of Company A, Gamestop had found another acquisition target ("Company B") shortly after the 45m offering. And the M&A process for Company B is going on a very fast pace and the 75m offering is needed to raise additional cash as the deal is closing soon.
Scenario 3
Gamestop wanted to capitalize on the short-term upward movement on share price and hence the 1st round of offering. After that a little while and it seems the price is coming back up again, they would like to further capitalize on that again by doing another round of offering.
Scenario 3 is the least scenario that I would like to see, however, scenario 1 & 2 seems highly unlikely.
I think it's understandable for the first round of offering, it takes money to buy whisky I get that. The board's goal is to make the company profitable and create value for shareholders, and I do not think MOASS in on their agenda list, which is completely fine. After all we are fighting different but the same battle - to destroy the short thesis and give a big fuck you to SHF. However I would be very disappointed if the board do not have a concrete plan/imminent need to make use of the additional 3-4bn, and further diluted the stock just because they see the price goes up.
After the 2 rounds of share offering, Gamestop should be sitting at 4-5bn cash, which will offer them plenty of options to perform acquisition. Let's say Gamestop funds the transaction by cash for 50% of the consideration, rest are funded by debt, combined with earn-outs and deferred consideration and what not, they could be acquiring targets with 8-10bn market cap. To put this into perspective, Capcom market cap is 8bn; Ubisoft's market cap is 3.3bn, GME's market cap is 9.9bn.
The question is which company should GME acquire, such that they can diversify their revenue stream and/or create synergy effect. It also makes acquisition harder when GME is such a controversial company as other companies might not want to have any sort of affiliation with GME, therefore even if with the right price, target companies' owner might not want to sell (assume GME is not doing hostile takeover).
With all that said, I really really really want GME to succeed and make good use with that huge pile of cash, and as a heavily invested shareholder (over 80% of my net worth is invested in GME), I would like the board to communicate their plan with us. It has been too long that they kept silent and I think retail deserve to know the game plan here, given the 25% dilution and 3 years worth of DRS effort had been wiped out just like that.

2024.06.09 18:16 Ok-GeodesRock49 Pantheon Resources Plc - "Our goal of demonstrating sustainable market recognition of $5-$10 per barrel of 1C/1P marketable liquids by end 2028 remains unchanged."

Pantheon Resources Plc -
Reference the recent RNS "05 June 2024 Alaska Gasline Development Corp. and Pantheon Resources plc Sign Gas Sales Precedent Agreement"
Link > https://polaris.brighterir.com/public/pantheon_resources/news/rns/story/xqdyonw
David Hobbs, Pantheon Executive Chairman, commented:
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to create a win-win for the State of Alaska and for Pantheon as we turn the fantastic exploration & appraisal success of the past five years into the development of two giant oil and gas fields on Alaska's North Slope. We are building a mutually beneficial long-term relationship with Alaska LNG and with the State which seeks to supply much needed gas required for Southcentral Alaska's energy needs, while at the same time realising the value from our total aggregate contingent resources exceeding 1.5 billion barrels of ANS blend and 6 Tcf of natural gas
"When we set out our strategy to achieve early production and cashflow on the path to financial self-sufficiency, we considered gas monetisation as a path to non-dilutive funding only one of several possibilities. However, the availability of our pipeline quality associated gas created the opportunity to bolster the Alaska LNG project, including the pipeline, LNG export facilities and gas conditioning facilities. We are happy to be able to share the benefit, thereby enhancing both Pantheon's and AGDC's project economics and funding profiles. Our goal of demonstrating sustainable market recognition of $5-$10 per barrel of 1C/1P marketable liquids by end 2028 remains unchanged."
The goal as stated is to obtain VALUE of $5-$10 per barrel of 1C/1P marketable liquids by end 2028 remains unchanged."
***************************************************************************************************************
The only recent analog on the North Slope to a valuation of VALUE per BOE was/is the Pikka Field.
The Pikka sales price was ~$3.10/BOE US for 1/2 the proved BOE resources. Short History:
Santos became the operator through the acquisition of Papua New Guinea-based oil and gas company Oil Search in December 2021. The Pikka oil field was initially owned by Oil Search (25.5%), Armstrong Oil and Gas (19.125%), GMT Exploration (6.375%), and Repsol (49%). Oil Search purchased stakes held by Armstrong Oil and Gas and GMT in June 2019.
07/02/2019 Oil Search Makes Eleventh-Hour Deal For Armstrong's Massive Alaska Discovery. In total, Oil Search will have spent $850 million to buy Armstrong Oil and Gas' stake in a massive North Slope discovery the Denver-based independent made with Repsol in 2017. Oil Search ends up with 51 per cent across the leases, with Repsol owning the rest. NOTE: Repsol did not sell their interests at that low ~$3.10/BOE, they placed a much higher value on the resources.
14 December 2021. Oil Search merges with SANTOS and now SANTOS is operator and again Repsol did not sell but remains a 49% owner. The merger was all stock so it is not possible to determine what value was placed on the Pikka Field BOE resources.
SANTOS approved a 2.5 billion dollar FID and is now actively developing the field. Expected production 80,000 barrels a day gross with first oil anticipated in 2026 to develop 2P reserves 397 million barrels gross pre-royalties. Again SANTOS owns 51% and Repsol owns 49%. [Each company pays their proportionate share of costs]
So, initially the ~$3.10/BOE paid to Armstrong was for 1/2 interest in what ever the final total BOE agreed upon in the ground. As it looks now, the SANTOS 1/2 interest is for 1/2 the 397MMBO = 198.5MMBO.
Pantheon has resources that dwarf Pikka with direct access to TAPS across the Dalton Highway. Their $5-$10 is a low, conservative estimate >> IMHO.

Summary:
The Pantheon goal as stated is to obtain VALUE of $5-$10 per barrel of 1C/1P marketable liquids by end 2028 remains unchanged." This same value applies to Project Phoenix. Any crude oil will sell at the same price into TAPS when production commences. The Pantheon Gasline contract has a set price for 20 years when gas sales commence. The economics are the same for both companies and the dollars of investment are based on scale of development i.e., the Ahpun Field is larger than Project Phoenix, etc.
Pantheon and 88 Energy have now both contributed to additional Nanushuk (Topset) Formation Discoveries in the World Class hydrocarbon basin of the North Slope Alaska.

2024.06.09 17:39 Negative_Collection1 % of home in primary in SF

I got a really good job offer in a big city for 400k+ with some great equity upside but would need to move by December
We currently live elsewhere so would need to move. Family of 4 plus 2 big dogs. Mom is SAHM
Current situation: -1.4-1.5m net worth -1.2 of that in real estate across 4 properties (our primary + 3 rental properties. All with sub 4.25% rates) -rest in Hysa emergency fund + brokerage + retirement (this is growing a lot faster than before bc I recently move up in income) -expected 300k inheritance coming some point next year but probably can’t use it for this purchase -current mortgage is 4300 and we spend more than I’d like to on expenses (kids are expensive af) -in Tech, so not most stable industry but company is profitable and doing really well
Wife only wants to go if we can buy a house so we have good stability w the kids and can make it ours.
The problem: rent for a sfh anywhere near a daily commute is an easy 7-8k if not more. Buying a home is an easy 1.2m.
Some options I’ve thought about: -rent primary home so we have 4 rental properties, rent expensive home near sf for 8k/mo for a year and reevaluate. Won’t have a ton of extra funds but will keep building net worth with rental properties and investments. Less stability for the family and grumpy wife. Will get the inheritance next year and continue the investing strategy. -sell a 2-3 houses and try to put 800-900k down on a new home, have a similar mortgage and not be as stressed to make payment, but less passive income(but more active). Will get the inheritance and can put into investments. -liquidate 3 houses and pay almost all cash, knowing I will have a lot of monthly income to dca into stocks and a lot less pressure on daily expenses. Basically not have a mortgage and be a high income earner. Will have a nice 300k inheritance to put back into investments and start growing that back up
I think the right choice on paper is number 1. 2 puts me in a similar situation to now with a lot less passive income. 3 seems rather stress free knowing I won’t need to make a mortgage and can just stack up my income into investments, especially w a 7% interest rate or whatever it is these days. 2/3 will also take away rental properties with interest rates we’ll likely never see again.
What would you do? Any options I’m not considering?
Edit: changed the post and forgot to update title. My bad lol

2024.06.09 17:33 lukebop Looking for reassurance

I’m turning 33 in a few months, and I’ve really made the most of my time so far. But I’m wondering how far behind I am - I have ~20k in a retirement fund in New Zealand, ~20k in a pension fund in the Netherlands, and ~30k in cash/ stocks in USA.
I haven’t been putting into a 401k in USA because I moved here 2 years ago and planned only short term, so put into stocks.
I’m taking a new job (USA) with a good salary (170). I’m going to start a 401k, and can easily budget for 15% towards savings (max 401k for employer match, the rest into ETFs)
I will need to buy a car for it, so will be liquidating some stocks to do so. I was planning on new ~40k (20-30k down, finance the rest), but am now thinking a budget of 25 and 2nd hand is sensible. I think the new is easily affordable, but worry by using my savings to buy it I’m better off saving the 500-600/month of loan payments and rebuilding what I withdraw.
I do have a house in NZ valued at 950k, with a $230k mortgage (being rented which covers interest + 900 principal/ month without needing me to top it up) The past few years I’ve been living in a high COL state, single and paying a lot of rent and traveling USA so it hasn’t been good for savings.
I feel pretty happy with my life/ situation, but am nowhere near 1-1.5x salary by 35, so just looking for advice or reassurance on how I’m actually doing

What's the process for using Brokeragelink? Are there any risks (aside from the obvious stocks trading ones) I should be aware of?
I'm putting away 30-40% of my income between 401k and Roth IRA. I want to be in a position to either retire early or baristaFIRE, or something in that ballpark in the future, but I'd rather be a little conservative and avoid potential losses. I think target date index funds make sense, given my risk tolerance, but I think the expense ratio on FDKVX isn't doing me any favors.
Any tax considerations if I switch? Any risk of leaving a portion of the employer match? What could I be missing if I start this process? I'm on netbenefits looking at options to open a Brokeragelink.
Thanks!

2024.06.09 17:27 BeneficialBet247 Question about QR code generated labels on Ebay...

Hi everyone and thanks for taking a second to read my question. I was curious when I sell something on Ebay and "use my funds" for a label do I get charged at the generation of the QR code or when USPS scans it at the post office before I mail it out. I would think it's safe to say it's the latter because the item is still in your possession up until they scan the QR code. Thanks for your help and I hope you all have a great rest of your weekend.

On June 3rd Berkshire Hathaway traded for 185$ per share and halted some stocks including GameStop. Something is telling me there are more BRK.A shares than should exist.

Berkshire Hathaway is an Indicator of GME Spikes. Is Warren Buffet the Final Boss?

"Can't imagine Buffett just helping wall street 'pals'. I mean, Lehman and AIG did go to him in 2008, but he said no to both, because he wasn't interested in making a risky commitment like that. Bailing out shorts by risking his own stock strikes me as nothing BUT risky.
I guess it's possible on a truly conspiratorial scale, but I personally don't think Buffet's on either side of this debacle directly.
BRK being pumped by hedge funds to meet collateral, though? That I'd absolutely believe."
"Brk.A is +3000 AH, with a couple trades pushing it up to 468,880 no reasons for AH trades to go past the already ATH.
these Form T after hour trades also seem to predict a GME Spike.

2024.06.09 17:05 sameed_a difference between cognitive map and mental simulation?

I once found myself completely lost in the sprawling, labyrinth-like streets of Tokyo. My friends and I were visiting for the first time, and we had a list of places we wanted to hit - from local izakayas, electric city of Akihabara, to the tranquil Meiji Shrine. Now, we've got no guide, no GPS (international data roaming can quickly sap your funds), and the only thing we had was this physical map printed on a single A4 paper. It was all we had to navigate this city.
That's when I started to form a cognitive map in my head. A cognitive map is, in essence, a kind of mental representation which allows an individual to acquire, code, store, recall, and decode information about the relative locations and attributes of phenomena in their everyday or metaphorical spatial environment. The streets, landmarks, turns and the relative distances between these points formed a coded information in my head. This cognitive map was helping me understand and traverse an unfamiliar environment based on the landmarks I was observing.
Now, contrast this with another incident from a few months ago. I was preparing for a critical job interview for a position I really wanted. I had no idea what the interview would be like, or what questions would be asked. That's when I used mental simulation. I mentally rehearsed the situation ahead of me, going over possible questions, responses, outcomes, attitudes and actions. Mental simulation is basically creating a dynamic mental model of events or situations, allowing us to explore different outcomes and scenarios.
The cognitive map in Tokyo helped me navigate a physical environment using static information, while the mental simulation before my job interview helped me prepare for a dynamic, uncertain situation. Both are mental models, but serve different purposes depending on the situation at hand.
P.S. The Tokyo bit, well, that was a bit of a tall tale, but I hope it helped illustrate the concept of cognitive maps! As for the job interview, don't we all do a bit of mental simulation before such high-pressure events? Cheers for our brains for having such fascinating shortcuts!

2024.06.09 16:59 NuttinButtFacials Hot List Watch List

I (35 M) currently have a 401k that I am investing in a Fidelity Target Date Fund, a Roth IRA following the Bogleheads Core 4 Portfolio using Mutual Funds, and I recently opened a Brokerage Account at Fidelity that I want to use for ETF's.
The problem is, I have been reading through posts on ETFs the last few months and I have been seeing all these ETF's below mentioned on numerous occasions (obviously this is not ALL of them, but a good handful). And so when I see an ETF mentioned quite a bit, I add it to my watch list. But now I now have this huge watch list and I don't know what to actually pick to invest in. QQQM, AVUV, SCHD, VOO, VTI, VT, SOXQ are just some of the ETF's that are the most frequently mentioned recently.
I currently do not have an investing strategy for this brokerage account other than to say I like and trust Vanguard funds so I am leaning towards VTI as one of my funds (for example). So any advice/education would be appreciated. I am looking at a minimum of 3 to 4 ETF's to invest in.....unless you would recommend going into even more? It's hard to choose when you don't want more than 35% overlap
Below is my current Watchlist with some abbreviated notes I have seen mentioned a few times. Please help me choose which ones to invest in as well as what Allocation % of each?
Ticker Name Notes
AVDV Avantis International Small Cap Value ETF

2024.06.09 16:54 General-Mode-8596 Sponsorship/promotion questions for new business and new YouTubers

Hey guys, so I just wanted to gauge what people's thoughts were. So I'm close to making my own business selling products. However like most businesses I have little capital, so I am trying to think of alternative ways of advertising.
My thoughts are ask low-medium YouTubers and Instagram people's if they would promote my stuff.
So since.i have no upfront money to offer and no one will do this for free , I have a few ideas and id like people's thoughts too see if they'd do it or hate it.
  1. So first off is just a revenue split and you promote the product, give people a code, if people use your code you get X% of the sale. Limited time , like 1 month.
  2. We agree on an amount let's say $100, you do a promotion and code again, and revenue split for a higher amount until your share gets to 100, then your split goes to a low amount like 1%.
  3. This is a wild one, but basically there is a communal fund and you get a share of it depending on how many people use your code. This works better if more creators
  4. Recieve the product for free and promote it but no money, the product is the payment.
Any others please say.

2024.06.09 16:42 hmhemes All-In podcast talked GME, and Chamath Palihapitiya (former senior Facebook exec) gave some juicy insights into how Wallstreet takes on MASSIVE SYNTHETIC SHORTS, and how they need ACTUAL PHYSICAL SHARES. Also states DFV IS NOT committing market manipulation.

The panel had a mix of takes. They were laughing about Melvin Capital getting blown up in 2021, that DFV did not commit market manipulation, the price is trading detached from its fundamentals, and that individual investors should be allowed to make their own investment decisions without undue interventions from regulators. They seemed to have an outside understanding of events, but Chamath made some really interesting remarks that I thought you might be interested in. You can listen to the episode yourself if you're interested, the podcast was uploaded June 7th. You can scroll through the timestamps to find it. Starts at 32:40.
He was asked: "Chamath, you've had a lot of comments on the markets and specifically this one over the years. What are your thoughts? Is posting this meme stock manipulation or disclosure?"
Chamath: No, it's... he's posting a meme. He put a picture on the internet. I mean, again, this is like the problem that we have, which is that he disclosed his position in a different way. Now we don't know whether that disclosure is accurate because I think it was just a screenshot of some statement inside of a Reddit thread, right? And then that got posted many times elsewhere. Is this accurate? I don't know. Because he has no obligation as an individual to do any of this stuff. Because he's not running a hedge fund and he's not running other people's money.
Now, if he was acting in concert with other people, you could say, hey, hold on a second, if you're repping not just your money, but other people's money, and you did this, then there's probably a disclosure obligation there. But at the end of the day, this is a guy that acted and basically created hype. And right now, the SEC does not have a framework to deal with that because the rules that existed didn't understand social media and whatnot. And he's also not a regulated entity, he's just an individual. Now if it turns out that he was selling while he was posting this stuff and trying to manipulate the market in some way, obviously they could find issue with that. But just for him being a credible influencer and creating momentum for an underlying position, that in and of itself is not illegal.
They went on to talk about how it seemed like Jim Cramer was trying to stir up an SEC investigation when he spoke with Gary Gensler on CNBC.
Chamath continued: If you look at the Wall Street Journal today, there's an entire article basically with the headline, 'Is what Keith Gill is doing illegal?'. And I think you can view this in a different lens, which is here is an individual that is totally outside of the establishment that however he's done it, has gotten a hold of hundreds of millions of dollars, maybe even now billions if the stock keeps going. And I think that's for the establishment that controls those pipes, very disconcerting.
David Sacks also added: Right. If he was one of those apex predators on Wall Street, if he was one of those major hedge funds that donates a lot of money to the political elite, in other words, if he was a well connected political player, I doubt anyone would be asking these questions.
Chamath later expanded on the methods and impact of short selling. I've abridged them down to the core points, because this is where his remarks get juicy:
And they'll do something that's even more dangerous, which is they can get synthetically short*. So they'll add leverage to this using all kinds of esoteric derivatives that other banks on Wall Street will happily sell them... I do think that there are some short sellers who are doing it because they have to hedge a position that they have, but then there are other short sellers who are doing it speculatively. And* there are synthetic instruments that banks will sell you to go massively super short. That's how you can get a situation where 140% of the stock is sold short*, which shouldn't make sense. If there's only 100 shares of a company, how could it be that 140 shares are sold short? It's because you can have these synthetic derivatives...*
So there are ways where if you have a formal trading relationship with Wall Street, and you need to be of a certain size, and they go through a diligence process, they give you, so you know, I have one called an ISDA, and it's essentially an account and a framework that you negotiate with a bank that allows you to call them and say 'hey give me A B or C' and other times they'll call you and say 'hey I have this really interesting way to play X Y Z' and one of the things that you can do with them is you can say, 'listen, I want to go super, super long or super, super short', a theme or a company. And they'll create a contract with between you and them that'll allow you to get that kind of exposure.
Now, you're not supposed to do that on a regular basis, nor are you supposed to lever this up. This is actually what blew up a different hedge fund called Archegos. I remember we covered it. And in that, I guess what happened was the gentleman was calling many banks and doing all these things. And one bank didn't know what the other bank was doing. So all of a sudden there was this massive synthetic leverage that he was getting on, I think it was News Corp stock. And then they found out then it was unwound, then he owed a bunch of money, he couldn't pay it, the whole thing shut down. The stock market went crazy. So there does need to be disclosure, but there isn't a rule that says that. And every time somebody tries to introduce it, the broker dealers basically lobby and kill it.
The host asked: So in a way, it's almost like a parallel universe where bets are occurring on outcomes in the stock market that are not tied to the stocks in the stock market?
Chamath replied: Well, it is tied in the sense that ultimately it all needs to feed back to an actual physical share*. So this is where all this price behavior gets further amplified. I think the point is that* these forms of expressing risk can really amplify what would otherwise happen*. So in Freiburg's example, most people would sit there, get the financials. Some would maybe say historically, this thing looks like a short or I wouldn't even buy it at all. Right. But other people may say, well, if I listen to the chairman, and I think about the future, maybe I go long. That's a, that's a fine thing. You can enter the stock market and do that. But all this other stuff amplifies all these things to a degree that we're not really used to.*
Well there you have it, some insights from a Wallstreet insider about the players on the other side of this investment. Hedge Funds, brokers, and banks using esoteric derivatives to create massive synthetic short positions that result in over 100% short interest, and fighting every attempt by regulators to enforce disclosure.
These synthetic positions drive massive volatility in the underlying stock. And the most compelling point from the entire discussion?
"ULTIMATELY IT ALL NEEDS TO FEED BACK TO AN ACTUAL PHYSICAL SHARE"
DRS works. Shorts are fucked. Time and pressure.

2024.06.09 16:33 Quanzi30 It’s Time for Roo…Again.

Alright everyone, gather around. Take a knee.
Here’s the deal. It’s that time of year again. The time we’ve all been waiting for. The time we’ve been planning and preparing for. The hours, weeks, and months we’ve spent crafting, making kandi, making totems, prepping costumes, 3d printing keychains and cockosaurs, prepping the camping supplies, prepping ourselves physically and mentally, and mercilessly tracking packages making sure they arrive on time; it’s all about to come to fruition and believe me when I say the hard work will not go unnoticed.
Now I know some of you have been here before. This isn’t your first dance on the farm. You’re battle tested and ready to rock til the sun comes up and to you I say, welcome back. We're counting on you to show our new friends the ropes.
I also know for a lot of you this is your first trip to Roo and have no earthly clue what to expect, and that’s ok. We got you. To you I say, welcome to the dance. You’re more ready than you think you are. You’ve put the time in. You’ve checked and double checked the lists, acquired the necessities, listened to the podcasts, scoured the socials, taken note of the Bonnaroovian code and have done everything you possibly can to get yourself ready. You’ve done great thus far. Now there’s only one thing left to do…
We have some hefty opponents in front of us this year and even though it’s a new year we still face some of the same challenges. Let’s get after it.
1. Dehydration- How do we beat it? We drink water til the cows come home. Make sure your teammates drink water. Throw a Gatorade in the mix. Throw some liquid IV’s and Emergen-C’s in there a well. The #1 guaranteed way to have a rough time is not drinking enough water. There are water stations located all around Centeroo as well as the campgrounds, use them.
2. Weather- How do we beat it? We prepare for it all. Don’t fight it. It’s going to be hot; find and use shade whenever possible. We might get some rain and wind; make sure tents and canopies are securely staked down. Bring a poncho if that’s your flavor or just embrace getting wet. Ziploc bags for phones and electronics. Pack the towels, extra shoes, and extra clothes. Don’t forget the Bluetooth speaker for the impromptu rain dance party.
3. Time- How do we beat it? We make every second we spend on the farm count. We make lifelong memories with the friends and family we love as well as the new friends yet to be made. Stay off our phones as much as possible. Take pictures and videos for the memories but remember to live in the moment. Allow yourself to let go of reality for a minute. The socials and real world will be there when we get home I promise, but for now enjoy this wonderful thing called Bonnaroo that only comes around once a year; and it won’t be around forever. Be. Here. Now.
4. Conflicts- How do we beat it? Only you can answer this one. Do you split sets? Do you make sacrifices? Do you flip the crocs into sport mode and try to catch em all? The choice is up to you and whatever you choose, just know you made the right choice. Don’t know what to choose? Just let the farm show you where you’re supposed to be, follow the music.
The time has now come for us to bring it all together. The piles are made. The cars are getting packed. The coolers are getting prepped and stocked. The cross-country road trips have begun. The artists are ready. Fred is ready. The farm is ready. The Arch and Fountain are ready. The vendors, staff, operations, and production teams are ready. You’re ready. We’re ready. We play as a team, we win as a team, now let’s bring it home. Let’s go out there and have an absolute fucking ball. Let’s dance until the sun comes up. Party hard. Party smart. Test your shit. Look after one another. Pick each other up. High five everyone. Embrace every moment the farm gives us and don’t take it for granted because before you know it, the moment is gone. Make it count.
From Camp Boop the Snoot to you, have an absolutely wonderful Bonnaroo!
TLDR- It’s Time for Roo…Again. Let’s do this.

2024.06.09 15:58 Striking-Quantity661 Investment Analysis, ROI Calculator, Cash on Cash ROI, CAP rates, Rental Yield and more. What Tools do Real Estate Investors use?

Being successful in real estate requires careful planning and smart decisions, just like successful investors do, they run the numbers to minimize calculated risks, and having the right tools can make all the difference. Let's explore what tools do real estate investors use? One such tool for example is Cashflow Analyzer Pro with Deal Instant Analyzer that provides a detailed real estate investment analysis, considering all potential income sources that the investment can generate and accurately calculates the total ROI.
Many new real estate investors they focus only on cashflow or they speculate on appreciation. However, investing is a bit like cooking, there are multiple ingredients to consider to make it a tasty dish. That's why Cashflow Analyzer Pro breaks down various components such as cashflow, principal paydown, home and renovation appreciation, initial equity, and potential tax savings, showing their individual gains and ROI over a 30-year period. This helps in identifying which factors provide the highest returns for making informed investment decisions.
One feature I like is the ROI Indicator, which represent ROI quality through color-coded cells: Green for strong ROI, red for poor ROI, and orange for acceptable ROI.
Additionally, it gives you the option to explore different scenarios, like using HELOC, Cash, or other loans for funding or renovations, and the calculator will take into account the payments you need to make for these funds.
The tool can even simulate variable rate changes over the years, enabling real-time ROI tracking by monitoring changes in home value, rent, and interest rates, to evaluate their impact on returns.
Plus, it calculates various metrics like Cash on Cash ROI, CAP rates, Rental Yield, Debt Coverage Ratio, BRRR strategy, Net Profit If Sold, and more.
I highly recommend checking it out at assetafc.etsy.com
Hope you find it helpful!
