2024.05.14 10:36 McKringles 1896 Springfield Krag Project

1896 Springfield Krag Project
Hello, I found this sub while at milsurp and thought this place could provide insight. I may crosspost if necessary.
For starters, I scored an 1896 Springfield Krag barreled receiver with, what was described on GB, a decent condition bore and rifling. The bolt appears to cycle just fine and the magazine well has a tiny bit of resistance but functions just fine. If anything, just needs a little cleanup before it gets a new stock.
The barrel itself though is a little shorter than the usual 22 in, but hopefully with what I have in mind for a project it won’t be a problem.
I plan on seeking a gunstock maker, particularly Randy Murray, to create a Philippine Constabulary style stock assembly for this particular rifle because I’m not a fan of the sporteCarbine configurations on the market. So far I’m already tracking that I’ll need parts for the stock assembly itself and getting it cleared safe to shoot by a smith.
If there’s anything else I should know about, let me know in the comments. Otherwise, I’m just happy to snag a Krag while I could before my wallet got drained buying other milsurp rifles lol.

2024.05.13 19:03 picklelidistuck Buying a Mauser

Should be picking this up tomorrow. It’s sporterized but it looks like I can put a regular stock back on it. Guy says it’s been in his family for decades, his grandfather gave it to him. I don’t think I’m paying to much for it. I would say but afraid of getting banned haha. Getting it for 550beans What do y’all think?

My newest addition sporterized type 99
So my dear bolties and semis. Here is my latest rifle a sporterized arisaka type 99 it's an early war example and should have anti aircraft sights a dust cover and a mono pod in addition to the missing wood amd front barrel band. It will be a hunt to find some of these parts but I have already ordered the stock and barrel band so it will soon be a big step closer to correct. The. It will be time to accessorize it.

Got my VZ58, looking for guidance on accessories and upgrades. (Family traveling to CZ in a few days as well)
It’s the first rifle I’ve owned as well. I am a big fan of all things Czech as well (all my pistols are CZs and my Wife is CZ too).
The model I have is a CSA Sporter (Liberty CSM model made for CT due to the severe limitations in the state in US but it does have a side rail).
Few things I was thinking about..
  1. Optics Mount: I’m half way there by default but have seen RS Regulates and the CSA mounts as well is either better?
  2. Hand Guards: The stock are obviously not conducive to accessories so any guidance their is helpful..saw a few that were cool but more focused on functionality and I’m on no rush as I only shot it once yesterday and really felt no discomfort from heat that I heard about.
Any guidance is appreciated! The family is going to CZ for a few weeks on the yearly visit so anything rare that might be cool to look for or ask around (anything legal) would be welcome.

SKS Sporter - Before and After
Saw this slightly bubba'd Norinco SKS Sporter on the wall of my gun shop about 2 months ago. There was a crappy scope mount top cover that was actually starting to come apart in pieces and one of those set screw muzzle brakes that goes around the front sight, but no permanent modifications.
I took the brake off immediately, and was lucky to source a chinese dust cover from gunaccessoriesforsale so that the finish matches pretty well. Then I ordered a new stock from Lucky Shot Woodstocks, and after about 5 weeks it showed up on my porch today. It came with a wood gas tube cover but for now I'm running a cheesegrater style. I'm keeping the original stock of course, but I'm also gonna hold onto all the junk it came with like the brake and scope mount dust cover, just for sentimentality.

I got a fever for 10/22's...
Just picked up this sporter with the 22" barrel from cabelas. I really like the longer barrel..that's been my only gripe about 22lr in general the guns feel small. This feels like a propper rifle. Might grab a boyds stock for this..

2024.04.29 21:00 Traditional_Bank2200 Grandpas rifle

Grandpas rifle
This was my grandfathers deer rifle. There are many ones like it, but this one was his. He carried it all around Saskatchewan, putting whitetail and muley’s on the table.
All my Dad knows about the rifle is that Grandpa got it in the early 1950’s and that he made the stock himself in the garage over a weekend.
On the surface it appears to be a No. 5 Mk 1 - but after some research and closer examination, we both think it is one of the reproduction “jungle carbines” that were widely available post WWII, built using various Lee-Enfield parts.
I know people hate on sporterized Enfields, but I can’t help but admire this rifle. A goal of mine this year is to tag out a deer with it, I know that would make my Grandpa proud.
What cool rifles with history/family stories have some of y’all inherited?

Lil Lee demands respect. He was just getting out of the pool...
This is the first sporter I've ever purchased because I genuinely liked it... Not for parts, a joke, or because it was less than $150. Fajen (top of the line bubba lumber) stock with a vintage Japanese made Bushnell 3-9 that is absolutely crystal clear.
Surely I'm not alone in my love for this?

2024.04.26 11:53 Small-Detective-3937 What rifle to get next for the collection?

What rifle to get next for the collection?
So a bit of context; I do not live in the US but rather in Pakistan where the local government operated firearms factory produces G3s on license production. My dad wants to expand his collection a bit more and is getting two licenses made on which he's getting an MP5 (locally produced by POF) and on the second one he's not exactly sure and asked me. Now, in rifles we have two options which are produced by POF; the 308 Winchester Sporter (a G3A3 marketed towards the civilian market) and the 308 Defender, a shorter version of the G3 similar to the G3KA4. I've heard that cutting down the barrel of the G3 effectively makes the round lose a ton of velocity and while this is true, I'm not exactly sure as to how this'll be bad because we're just getting the gun for range days and whatsonot, so please let me know which one I should get and provide reasons. Btw, the stocks can be changed as POF is offering accessories so no need to worry about that

2024.04.26 11:41 CarbonatedMolk 94 carbine swedish mauser question

Howdy friends, so I've got a m94 carbine, 6.5x55 swede. Sporterized, original stock is looooong gone. So my question is: 1) is this a large or small ring mauser, and what's the difference? 2) will the archangel stock fit my rifle? The current stock is heavy as Frick, and it makes it awfully difficult to do work on, clean inside, etc. If it won't, is there any polymer stock options for the 94?
Thanks

2024.04.26 04:38 Extreme-Still-4780 Sporterized 98

Say what you will i really like nicely sporterized guns and re-sporterizing the bubba'd up ones into something classy. Here is obendorf action .30-06 with clawmounts and rings, timney trigger, and a weaver marksmen 4x scope. I reblued the barrel and action and recut all the checkering on the stock. It has a jp sauer barrel on it as well.

2024.04.24 13:21 krukster86 Wzór Wednesday – 1936 Polish Wz.98a Long Rifle

Wzór Wednesday – 1936 Polish Wz.98a Long Rifle
Snagged another one!
Interestingly, the “procurement process” for this one started when I was doing research for my video on the Wz.98a Long Rifle. I contacted various members on the K98k Forum and GunBoards that posted examples of theirs from a while back and asked for more information and detailed photos. Only one member reached out back to me, and they hinted that if they were ever to sell it, I would be getting “first dibs”. Several months later, I happened to be on an out of state assignment for work and about 15 minutes away from that forum member, so we had a meetup and we came to a handshake deal on it.
I am very pleased to add this one to my collection. It is a 1936 dated example, the first year of Wz.98a production. It has the correct Polish unmarked triggerguard, follower, floorplate, and has a correct Wz.98a matching bolt, and it is not import marked. While it is a bit “salty”, it shows no signs of any rework. Bore is in excellent shape, and should be an excellent shooter, though I rarely have any time to hit the range these days.
The story that the forum member relayed to me (from the original owner of it), is that it was a bring back by a family member and the stock was sporterized, so a reproduction (PPHU Fox?) late WWI pattern Gew.98 stock and bands were fitted to it, which honestly is a good enough facsimile for a Wz.98a pattern stock.
I do have a FB marked Polish rework of a Gew.98 sitting in a Wz.98a stock, so when I get back home, I might do some stock swapping to put this one into its original configuration.
