Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a simple yet effective Bible study method called SOAP that I've found really helpful in my own spiritual growth. SOAP stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer, and it's a structured way to dive deep into the Word of God.
Here's how you can use the SOAP method:

1. Scripture (S): Choose a passage of Scripture to read. It could be a single verse, a chapter, or even a whole book, depending on your preference and time availability. Write down the passage you've chosen.
2. Observation (O): Reflect on what you've read. What does the passage say? What is its main message or theme? Are there any words or phrases that stand out to you? Write down your observations.
3. Application (A): Consider how the passage applies to your life. What is God saying to you through this Scripture? How can you apply its message to your thoughts, actions, or relationships? Write down how you plan to apply what you've learned.
4. Prayer (P): Close your study with prayer. Thank God for His Word and ask Him to help you live out what you've learned. Pray for guidance, strength, and wisdom to apply the Scripture to your life.

Example:
Scripture (S): Psalm 23:1-4 (NIV) "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
Observation (O): This passage portrays God as a caring shepherd who provides for and protects His people. It speaks of His guidance, provision, and comfort, even in difficult times. The imagery of green pastures and quiet waters evokes a sense of peace and rest in God's presence.
Application (A): I can trust God to provide for all my needs and lead me in the right direction. Even when I face challenges or uncertainties, I can have faith that God is with me, comforting and guiding me. This reminds me to rely on God's strength and not my own understanding.
Prayer (P): Dear God, thank you for being my shepherd and caring for me. Help me to trust you more and follow your guidance in my life. When I face difficult times, may I remember that you are with me, comforting and protecting me. Amen.

This patch ends Season 2 of Ranked, takes us into the off-season and has a TON of balance updates to the game. The goal of this balance patch is to address the power of Town, while doing updates, tweaks, and reworks to various roles.

Ranked Updates
• New Ranked Role list which uses the new Common buckets. Let us know what you think of this new list!
New Common Town and Common Coven Rolebuckets
• Common Town is a Role bucket that contains all Town except Town Power roles.
• Common Coven is a Role bucket that contains all Coven except Coven Power and Coven Killing roles.
Role Reworks
• Trickster - Place Magic Mirrors and absorb attacks, and Unleash them to other players at will. Trickster may not place another Magic Mirror until they Unleash the absorbed attack to another player. Taunt keyword replaced with Magic Mirror.
• Socialite - During the night you may throw a party at another player's house. Any visitors not on the guest list will be rejected from entering causing their ability to fail. Players rejected will be added to the guest list for future parties. During the day you may add a player to your guest list, allowing them to attend future parties.
• Coven Leader - During the night, pick another member of the Coven to retrain. You will be able to select a new role for them to become. This has 2 Uses. Coven Killing and Coven Power roles can become any coven role, Coven Utility and Coven Deception roles can only become other Coven Utility and Coven Deception roles. You can self-retrain You cannot retrain someone into a role that has already been on the team. The following day, the targeted Coven member will be able to accept or decline being retrained, they will instantly change roles if they accept.
• Dreamweaver - Insanity renamed to Insomnia. If a town member doesn't visit you you will become Insomniac instead. Insomniac players may not use any day or night abilities but does not affect voting. Players affected by Insomnia will be cured if the Dreamweaver dies.
Role Changes
• Baker no longer dies of Starvation. Instead they transform if all living players have Bread if there's less than 3 players alive.
• Deputy is now unique.
• Marshal now has 2 Tribunal charges instead of 1. In a Tribunal now a maximum of 2 players can be executed. Tribunal no longer resets the trial count.
• Doomed players are announced that they are Doomed then they die one day later.
• Added Necronomicon Passing.
• Swapped Psychic Good and Evil vision nights, meaning now Odd nights are Good visions, Even nights are Evil visions.
• Seer may not check the players they checked for the rest of the game.
• Prosecutors may not Prosecute twice in the same day.
• Necromancer can now use Potiion Master and Witch. If you use Potion Master on a Town you will use a Reveal Potion, using them on a Coven you will use a Heal Potion. Using Witch on someone will control them targeting themselves.
Improvements
• Epic purchases that are not granted immediately will now be granted upon a restart of the game.
• Players can now cancel account deletions if they attempt to login within the pending deletion window.
• Legendary Scrolls have been re-named Mythic Scrolls in order to help prevent confusion around the Legendary Cauldron rewards.
• Replaced/Updated 19 Achievements related to changed Roles.
• Town Traitor role list has been updated.
• Soul Collector Silhouette Added.
• Baker Silhouette Added.
Bug Fixes
• Fixed Last Will/Note/Death Note showing 1-20 if you had no template set.
• Fixed multiple issues related to the Autowin detector.
• Fixed Witch's target icon showing as the Cleric Barrier icon.
• Fixed a bug where in Ranked it would set your nametag and portrait to a random person until you pick a name.

Another Free Comic Book day has passed and another Mommy would not let her kid have a free comic.
So I thought I would tell the tales of other times when similar events occurred.
This tale begins the way all the others do. With a kid that wanting a pack of the evil Pokemon cards. As soon as the girl spotted the cards the typical mad mommy face appeared and the usual quote was quoted.
"YOU DON"T NEED THAT."
Girl said that she wanted them because they were fun.
Mommy, "You keep losing them."
So I asked the kid how she loses them. Her response was that she didn't lose them, her mother always threw them out. (I believed her)
So I asked her why she kept throwing them out to which she replied that she didn't and that her kid was a scatter brain.
I responded that I hear this all the time and that the mother does throw them out. Again I asked.
Now she retorted with the "I don't like them" reason.
Then she asked her father to buy her one, but he took one look at his wife and giggled nervously, took the pack out of her hand and tossed it on my table.
So I decided to have a little more fun. I told the mommy that today was her lucky day. It was free comic book day and the kid could take a free comic from the box on the table.
"SHE DOESN"T NEED IT."
Wow even free you won't relent. I asked the father what he thought. More nervous giggling. (Get a pair sir.) Girl thanked me for trying and mommy yelled at her for wasting her time. Mommy grabbed her by the arm so she couldn't take a book.

Another fine parent said that she wasn't going to waste her money on this shit. I informed her that her kid could take as many of the free books from the display so she didn't have to spend a dime on the kid.
Rather than thanking me, she said that was even worse.
I basically asked her WTF (without cursing) that meant.
The kid stated that she hated that he liked comics and always was looking for an excuse not to buy them for him and I took that excuse away. As he was saying this she walked away and yelled at him to move along.

The worst and funniest one I had was when the father and son were selecting a few age appropriate books. The mommy saw this and pulled the books out of the kids hand, yelled at the father, "I SAID NO" shredded them and slammed the pieces on the floor.
The father looked at her and stated that he said yes and the kid could have them.
She went wide eyed and yelled back for him not to defy her.
He walked back to my stand, apologized, and asked if he could have a few more. All the while she was screaming that he better not do it.
Of course I said yes and recommended that he hold on to them.
All the way down this aisle she tried to grab them. Then about halfway down he finally had enough and yelled "WTF is your problem??" and to knock it off. She didn't.

About 15 years ago, I had to close my account with my distributor and the last time I officially did the giveaway I counted the number of parents that did this. I usually did this for the month of May as keeping the books was taking up space.
I did two markets at that time, one in PA and the other in NY.
I had 48 parents that would not let the kids have free books. 45 were the mother, 2 of the fathers blamed the mother and the third was like the guy in the first incident.

One of the markets I used to do had a Halloween party every year. So instead of giving away candy I would give a kid a free book. Most parents did let the kid have them except for one.
When I told them the giveaway when the kid did "Trick or treat" she stated that the kid wanted candy.
Kid stated that he wanted a comic. That was better.
She told the kid. "No, you want candy"
Kid. "No, I want this."
Mother, (Well you get the picture.)
Kid. "No you want candy. Every year you steal my candy.
Mother got mad and told the kid that now he wasn't getting anything. We both knew that anyway. So he took a freebie and thanked me and the mother told me that I should be giving candy because that's what the kids really want.

I'll attempt to write a bit about that - (even though we went over many other topics - and I'm having a hard time grouping them)
It’s easy to simplify this into the market or the boot camp or the tech stack or what's fair or the resume - but I think people are missing the various multidimensional aspects at play.
Is it all of those things - and more? (Yes). And it's the student too. We're all different (cue reading rainbow moment). But it's true. Some of us are slower. Some of us are faster. Some of us are faster but miss the details. Some of us have a background that aligns neatly with tech. Some of us already know what job we want and why - and other people just want to make a good bet on a stable career. No matter what zone you're in, we still have to face the music - and deal with (trigger alert) - the truth.
The market is real. Companies aren't aggressively hiring random barely capable developers right now (like they have in the past). They're scared and holding on to their money. They also kinda realized they were spending more money on middle management and probably developers too - and are going to need some time to figure out how to make profitable businesses (or how to keep getting more VC funding to burn through).
But if there's a huge gap between your skills/experience and what it takes to do the job you're applying for, none of the other factors matter.
Many people choose a coding boot camp based on superficial factors like the price, the timeline, the website design, and the sales pitch. They often don't consider other important aspects because they simply don't know better. This isn’t unlike any other product or service or school.
Some people pick out a boot camp and learn a bunch of awesome stuff and they go out there and start a new career and for some reason, they don’t come back to Reddit to tell us about it. There are some legit colleges and boot camps and other alternative learning paths out there that are really great. It's just a fact.
If you read the bootcamp marketing, paid your tuition, went through the steps they lined out, and came out the other end unable to get that job they promised you, well - that’s awkward. Maybe for you, it’s that simple. If you feel like you got a raw deal, I’m sorry. There are some businesses that should be ashamed of themselves - but they won't be. All you can do is warn other people. That’s over now. We can only work with the present.
For people who really want to work in this industry - they'll keep moving forward. At the end of the day, this is the playing field. So, if you want to get off the bench, we’re going to have to design a path to that – and you might need to rethink some of your assumptions.
It could certainly be said that new developers are now expected to know about–and have experience with–a lot more things.
Are the expectations that someone brand new to development is going to be able to get a job unreasonable? Well, does it matter what someone’s opinion about that is? You either want the job - or you don’t. And you need to know how to do the job, or no one will hire you. When I started (at the age of ~30) (in ~2011), you needed to know HTML, CSS, (Probably some PhotoShop to get your assets), maybe a little PHP (and likely HTTP and more about URLs and request types and forms), FTP and DNS to get your site hosted, and maybe some JavaScript. You might have used jQuery to help out or Knockout.js. And you had to know how to hook up a database and MySQL and probably a CMS or some sort. And maybe your code was a mess or maybe it adhered to some common patterns. But that was life. Not everyone needed to know all those things. Some people would focus more on getting the mockup into the HTML and CSS. Other people might focus on the server and the PHP or Perl or Java. There were all sorts of jobs and some of them were done by people with a formal education in Computer Science studies and other people just figured it out as needed. There was a lot of work to be done. Lots of custom stuff to build and maintain. And it was just normal to learn more incrementally as the years went by. You could totally get a job knowing just HTML and CSS (and you still can BTW). There was still an infinite amount of things you could know. But it seemed to ramp up naturally because we were closer to the grain of The Web.
So, what do people learn now? (Generally) They rush through some HTML and CSS really quick (which actually teaches them more bad habits than good). They rarely learn about DNS or FTP because a tutorial showed them how to type a few random things into a terminal to have their site on a free service and they don’t buy a domain name because there’s a free subdomain. Apparently paying for anything is for suckers and companies that don't give you things for free are evil capitalistic pigs who should be shut down. New devs don’t know much about servers because their text editor is actually running an advanced web application behind the scenes that starts a virtual server and runs all sorts of other things they don’t understand outside of that context - like connecting to version control, opening a terminal pane, SSH, code completion and typeahead, autoimport completion, AI suggestions and other additional layers like typescript and many other linters to tell them where all their errors are. If they couldn't use VSCode - they might be dead in the water. It can feel like you’re just a bag of meat being yelled at by VSCode as you try and solve the errors and remove all the red lines. And we do all of these - to put the training wheels in place.
And I’m not saying that a LAMP stack doesn’t have it’s own level of black-box and mysteries with how Apache handles your HTTP requests and MySQL starts up it’s own server - but we have to be comfortable with some level of abstraction or we’d be writing all ones and zeros at the machine code level.
So, the new developer is manning this huge stack of tools unknowingly, but they do get a lot of benefits. We can spin up a pretty complex web application with a front-end to make requests, a server to talk to a database and other third-party systems and respond back to the client/front-end, and an auth layer to make sure people are properly signing in and only seeing what they need to see. There are abstractions for HTML and CSS and JS that put that template logic and controller logic into a neat little component file (which is great) and that component file is properly registered based on file name conventions and everything gets set up in this larger system of conventions that all happen behind the scenes in the framework architecture. So, as a new developer - you can really ride the framework and know hardly anything about how it works - as long as you know the language to speak to this layer of the abstraction (the API).
These aren't just arbitrary add-ons that people made to complicate things. They solve real-world problems. The new dev won't really understand what they are - but I'm not saying we should just get rid of them. They allow us to move faster and to build interfaces and business logic without having to write tons of behind the scenes repeated structural code by hand. And with those training wheels, we have more time on our hands. We can also add in the chance to further define our programs with safety measures and plan automated testing routines, and built-in documentation of our code base. We can keep adding layers and layers or pull in more and more third-party tools. It’s pretty amazing. But what people end up learning is how to maintain that configuration - and there’s only so much time - and so, they end up learning 10% of all the things you used to need/want to know. And some jobs have a path for that. But there's likely going to be a long-term cost for you.
Arguably - it doesn’t matter how much “code” you know - and making things is what matters. And that’s true. That’s what matters to the business that pays you. And to the school that wants you to feel good about your progress. But I think you should protect your learning journey. It’s for you. It’s going to be what you carry on throughout the years and it’s a seed.
Getting proficient with a popular tech stack - when the market is booming proved to be a great decision for boot camps and their students. And I'd bet that the majority of people mean well.
But when it's not booming, students are in it for the wrong reasons, schools have tightened up and moved online, the market has plenty of devs who already have 5+ years working with that framework/stack -- then all of the sudden - the surface-level fake-it-till-you-make-it path (as much as I respect that) doesn't work as well. You're going to have to put in some more energy.
When it's obvious that you can't build an HTML page with semantic markup, that's accessible, and has a universally pleasurable experience, and you can't write CSS without a UI framework or do anything custom, it's obvious. You should be aware of that gap. When you've never owned a domain name or setup a deployment pipeline, you should be aware of that gap. When your personal website looks like your boot camp gave it to you, you should be aware of how that looks. When you can't take a server-side scripting language like Python or Go or PHP and build out a little personal website framework - you should be aware of that gap. When you can't plan a project and don't have experience with diagrams and explaining things, you need to be aware of that gap. When you've never written about your process or created any case-studies to explain your projects, you should be aware of that gap. When your only proof of work is the class assignments, you should be aware of that gap. When your github history goes dead after the last day of class, you should be aware that we'll see that. When you claim to know nothing about visual design and that it's for someone else on the team - you should be aware of that gap. If you refuse to turn on your camera and just want to be left alone, you should be aware of that huge gap. If you can't build a little prototype app without React, they you probably don't JavaScript, and you should be aware of that gap. And there will ALWAYS be a gap. There's always more to learn. So - it's an important skill to know what to learn and why - and when. You can't learn everything. And if you're having a hard time finding work right now, then get clear on your goal. Stop applying for general "Software engineer" jobs you aren't ready for. Narrow your scope. Figure out a job that you think you can do confidently. Get clear on how big your gap is and what you need to learn to get centered and confident with your toolset. Ideally, it's fun. Try and ignore all the doom and gloom and focus on your own personal goal.
It's not just the market. Too many people are applying for jobs they aren't anywhere near qualified to do. And it probably doesn't feel good. But luckily - you can learn the things and get back on track.

1. More returning characters, some of which are played by the same actors.
2. That opening flashback with it's visual recreation of Carpenter's film and the fake Loomis.
3. Upped violence and death scenes, which appeals to Slasher fans regardless of if they in any way care about quality in these films.
4. The constant references/talking about the events of the 78 film. (Brackett even quotes his One Good Scare line for nothing other than a clap moment)
5. Doing things like bringing back Hawkins and redeeming Cameron, appeasing those who liked the former and trying to win over those who disliked the latter.
6. The character drama being downplayed in favour of tackling the immediate threat of MM.

But the biggest thing by far is Michael's depiction. In light of Halloween Ends, I do see that some of it's dislike comes from how the prior film portrayed him in terms of apparently not lining up. But I also see that it's because people didn't want Michael to "look weak" and in HKills, he's downright invincible and invulnerable. He's always on top, he kills loads of people and even the mob beatdown at the end doesn't work out. The film even suggests that he's powerful to the point of being supernatural, with him easily getting up and taking out the mob who delivered injuries that should have killed him. And with Laurie's monologue about how the more he kills the more he transcends? The film is practically worshipping MM as this force of evil.
Finally, Halloween Kills also references many of the sequels too and has the feel of one of them just as much if not more so than the OG film. There were even people who enjoyed the movie who said that it was partly because it felt like an 80s slasher movie. I'm not saying everyone who liked the film is of this exact mindset but I feel that part of the positivity comes from these aspects.
Does that explain people's dislike of the portrayal of Tommy Doyle or what they found to be overbearing Mob commentary or the characters not being smarter? It doesn't, but those are the most common criticisms I see and people can love the things I pointed out whilst disliking these.

Boycott, Ban or Burn?

My dear readers, it was a chilly November morning when I detoured to a local coffee shop, The Bubblin' Bistro. I was undecided about what to order, perhaps hot chocolate, perhaps something stronger to wake me as well as warm me. But even in an unfamiliar cafe, I thought I knew what to expect. An array of teas and a selection of coffees, as is usual across America.
They did have these options, though the sign listing them was mostly hidden. For in front of it loomed a blackboard, proclaiming the most absurd combination of ingredients this writer has ever seen. Pumpkin (yes, like a jack-o'-lantern) had been added to their coffee!
How they came up with such a concoction boggles the mind. It is also best not to think what part of a pumpkin could go into such a drink. Maybe they crush the pumpkins like oranges, to make a lumpy juice. Perhaps they zest it, grating chunks of the pumpkin's hide into the grounds. Or maybe they pour the slimy entrails straight into the cup, to ambush the unsuspecting drinker mid-sip.
Regardless, this cannot stand. In a misguided burst of the holiday fervor, The Bubblin' Bistro has profaned both pumpkins and coffee. It only adds to the culinary morbidity that the scent is delightful, when it ought to smell sepulchral, as they are desecrating the very grave of Halloween. Instead, the autumnal odor entices the unwary, luring them in only to betray them when they drink.
At the very least, let us avoid The Bubblin' Bistro from now on, so as not to fund the madness, though this feels insufficient. We shall petition to ban the drink and the so-called coffee shop entirely, but it seems unlikely our feckless mayor will pass such a measure. He didn't stand against the Sushi Tsunami, he refused to intervene in the pineapples on pizza plot, and he even laughed—laughed—when I told him a few misguided souls were putting avocado on toast. But from a small vanguard, that vile victual has spread when the mayor could have cut it off early.
It is a familiar slippery slope. Today, it's pumpkins in the coffee supply. Tomorrow, you'll have to keep an eye on the tea. In a week, the carbonated beverages will fall. And in a month?
In a month, we'll be picking pumpkin seeds out of the tap water.
But not this time. This time, we shall insist on action. And when the mayor refuses, we shall take matters into our own hands. Immolate the idolatrous imbibables! Conflagrate the corrupted cafe! Set spark to the sacrilegious site! Blaze The Bubblin' Bistro!
That is to say, burn it down.
