2024.05.15 12:02 Willing-Arrival8624 RPG games as a righteous character

So, I am searching for a high quality open world RPG game for where you are not evil. Most of the open world games with good graphics seem to make you a bad person, make you commit crime etc. I don't really like this. I want to be a righteous charactea hero, not a villain. For example, gta 5 or cyberpunk makes you an evil character. I don't mind if the game has a lot of violence as long as I am fighting for a good cause. What suggestions do you guys have?
oh, right, I wouldn't mind being a righteous villain either.
I like Legend of Zelda type of game ig. But how about a bit more freedom than just following along the main story? Also most loz games are not even for pc

2024.04.21 22:54 Distressed-Obsessed [PS1or Dreamcast][1990-2006][Dungeon Adventure]

Platform(s): PS1 or Dreamcast
Genre: Dungeon Adventure, no RPG visuals like talking to characters.
Estimated year of release: 1990-2006 (Likely on the earlier side, as when the wii was released my focus changed. The year really differed based upon if it was a PS1 or a Dreamcast game.)
Graphics/art style: Semi realistic, not anime or very minimally anime, probably hand drawn but edited 3d models may be a possibility. Cover art was black and purple with a bunch of characters towards the center. Gameplay looked semi-realistic for the era adjacent to silent hill. May have been 3rd person with tank controls. If on dreamcast, was more similar to Shenmue, and if on ps1, was more similar to silent hill than other games I was aware of. Cover was very foreboding, and the gameplay was very ominous and gloomy. Not very explicit or violent, but dark and muted color schemes except with monsters and potions maybe?
Similar covers: Records of Lodos War (general setup, color theme, vibe.), Arc The Lad (purple top darker brown/black bottom with a central character and others pulling back to them), Aura Battler Dunbine (general setup and vibe). Looked similar to the LOZ 1998 official strategy guide, but with a different organization of characters, less cartoony art style, and lack of yellow as a present color. Similar gameplay: No matches. Memory remembers it somewhat similar to dark souls for some reason. Mana and health bar top or top right of screen, something at bottom right of the screen may have been inventory. You could also open up a fuller inventory I believe somehow.
Notable characters: Cover art featured several people including a woman who looked VERY similar to some versions of Zelda for the time (I had an official LOZ OOT guide book so it may look more like that version.) She looked mostly anatomically correct but may have had some anime vibes that were mostly passable. The cover art also featured the hero who looked more like Guts from Berserk than Link, with a strangely more strong face and general masculine appearance that was also more anatomically correct than most art I saw at the time. There was also a fairy, which may have either appeared exactly like a LOZ OOT fairy OR looked more like just a small human with pointed ears and wings, I do not remember. I just know there were strong feelings I had relating to this fairy and the fact this was NOT a LOZ game I had bought. when I had thought it was for some reason. The monster I remember dying to was a flat slime on the ground which may have been a bright red or green, but I don't remember clearly.
Notable gameplay mechanics: The gameplay appeared to be a pretty straightforward adventure/dungeon game, no role playing mechanics such as elongated dialogue with characters but there may have been a story. The game was not turn based, and required real time reactions. The game was either very hard to play or had unique quirks that were impossible to know due to the language barrier. Attempting to drink a red potion killed my character instantly, as it had been poison. The explorable area included an indoors wooden-floored area, with a slime in an area to fight. There may have been a forest just before the indoor area. Felt like a fantasy/medieval Resident Evil game due to the oddly creepy and ominous art style of the game mixed with clunky controls. I do not remember any music or sound effects.
Other details: I received the gamey when I was very young (26 currently), and the game arrived in Japanese. It was likely purchased on ebay. We believed the game to be a different Legend of Zelda game for some reason and attempted to play it anyway. Due to the language barrier, we could not really do much. It is entirely possible this game was a japanese-only release, bootleg, or may have been a modded game sold on ebay. My family had bought me SEVERAL modded/spliced games and movies by accident, and more bootlegs than I could ever remember.
Thank you to anyone who tries to answer this, I'll attempt to respond as quick as possible to any potential questions or answers.

2024.04.21 09:01 luisgdh My list of favourite games ever is very unique... I need help finding similar games

Hello reddit
As stated in the title, at first glance my list of favourite games is very odd. You would expect someone's list to contain similar games, indicating that this person appreciates a certain genre. However, my list of top 6 games is:
In no particular order. This list contains: a souls-like, a space exploration game, a 2d metroidvania, an adventure game, an underwater survival and an RPG.
Then you might ask: what connects these games? And, to me, the link is: none of these games have a giant arrow in your screen telling you where to go. None of them have an NPC telling you what you're supposed to do now. None of them have a mission called "Kill 34 metal gargoyles to build a new base"
All these games just throw you at a giant open world, no direction, no closed route. They don't even tell you what is your end goal (except for the two LoZ entries). Just you and a huge world. I have spent over 100 hours in vanilla Skyrim and I have never killed the "final boss", because it felt unimportant. I have spent 60 hours in subnautica just exploring every corner, looking under every rock. I have spent 120 hours in Elden Ring doing... Huhhhh... I don't even know what I was doing. I'm not even sure how many bosses there are, and how many I have killed. I was just exploring.
And Hollow Knight... Jeez, if I had to pick a top one of this list, even though it would hurt me, it probably would be HK. Such a wonderful, rich, unique world
I have played other metroidvanias, other RPGs, other adventure games, but they never scratch the same itch. My question is, are there other similar games, providing similar experiences?

2024.02.27 22:53 Sin-God The Power Of The RPG: Generic Action RPG

Hello! Today we’ll be discussing Generic Action RPG by Burkess. Here is a link to enable easy navigation of these kinds of discussion posts by me. Let’s dive right in!

General Thoughts

Generic Action RPG is a neat power-boosting jump that will probably serve as a way for jumpers to grab a neat grab bag of powers. I doubt anything here will become a jumper’s SIGNATURE gimmick, but there’s a lot of really neat little things in this jump that are worth snagging for future jumpers.
This jump turns many of the things that are common across RPGs into perks you can snag. There are a handful of items this jump offers, and they are definitely worth paying attention to, but there’s only seven of them, and the overwhelming majority of this jump’s space goes to the impressive collection of perks you can collect from here. Let’s start off by diving into the items!

Items

My favorite item in this jump is one of my favorite items anywhere and when I started covering jumps other than EdroGrimshell’s I knew I’d talk about this specific jump and this specific item someday. It’s named Insurrection, and it is a shapeshifting weapon that can morph into new forms by absorbing other weapons. The new forms also gain power based on the forms the jumper who purchases it has, which is a fun thing for alt-form heavy jumpers. This weapon also grows as you do, growing stronger as you become inch towards elder-jumper status and as you become a more wacky living collection of powers and traits.
The other items here are also worth looking at. This jump can give you a keyblade, with all of the goofy powers that come with that, there’s a planet-item for jumpers who want to fuck off and just vibe for a while, and there’s a dungeon item you can use to train in future, chill settings. With this your vacation jumps don’t have to be PURE peace, there can be some violence that you get up too while you’re hanging out in… generic cubicle or something. There are other items, Consumable Stockpile gives you a replenishing mound of food, potions, and other consumables, and Upgrade Warehouse is perfect for jumpers with means to improve their gear, while Signature Insignia is perfect for territorial jumpers who want people to know what is theirs.
These items are neat for QoL jumpers or jumpers who just want to train. I am personally fond of Insurrection as it’s a weapon that grows with you and that can become stronger as you happen across other, neat weapons in your travels. I honestly think it’s just neat and I’m glad I get the chance to talk about it.

Perks

Okay, here we go. To begin with I want to draw people’s eyes to one of the sickest perks in this whole jump, “Attribute Gains”. With AG everytime you win a fight, which will probably be often even if this is somehow your first jump, you get points you can invest in yourself to enhance your abilities. This is effectively the “Leveling System” for this particular jump, and it is INTENSE. Even if you only got a SINGLE point every time you fought something and won, that can snowball shockingly fast, and the rules of the perk explicitly outline that you get more points based on how challenging the fight was. This perk is incredible.
“Lifting Them Up” is another great perk that is fantastic in general. This perk lets something about your presence serve as a powerful reason to get stronger and bolsters your friends training and helps them grow stronger. This already great perk grows stronger if you have social perks from other jumps, like perks that make you easy to befriend.
“Settlement Mode” is one of my favorite perks in any of Burkess’s jumps because it is powerfully transformational in a breadth of settings. This perk lets you take raw materials and instantly turn them into something else, and it comes with blueprints for everything that exists on Earth as of the early 2000s. This is a remarkable perk, and it is incredibly powerful for survivalist jumpers and for anyone who wants to do something like brave the dangers of Minecraft (a setting that is deceptively dangerous for early jumpers, but is honestly just so fun) or go to some other survival setting.
“Monster Talk” is another transformational perk, particularly for jumpers who don’t love violence. This perk gives you the ability to talk to and understand any being, even granting intelligence to creatures that lack enough intelligence to normally be capable of conversing. This is a god-tier perk for diplomat jumpers, and is also a really handy universal tool. It probably works best with a perk that enhances your charming points to creatures you’re conversing with, for the sake of buffing your first impressions, but even without that it’s just so good.
“God Slayer” and “Vicinity Break” are two exceptional combat perks this jump offers. GS makes you deal damage to anything regardless of stuff like their immunities or invulnerabilities and allows you to deal chip damage even to stuff that should be immune to your attacks. VB makes your attacks deal area of effect damage, allowing even simple punches to harm people AROUND the person you punched, and makes dodging attacks a hell of a lot harder. This is great if you’re a melee fighter dealing with groups, or if you’re a sniper trying to fend off a group of enemies heading towards you but you’ve got one bullet.
“Martyr” is a fun perk that gives you a healing factor and lets you heal other living beings by actually taking their wounds onto yourself. This can be a handy way to heal people even if you lack something like healing magic, and is a fun narrative way for your character to become known as a selfless healer.
“Weaponized Wings” is just cool. It gives you shapeshifting wings and with those wings you can absorb all sorts of stuff like weapons or supplies, and you can fire energy bullets out of them, as well as fly. This is a utility perk that offers a lot of bang for its buck, and I just highly recommend it.
If you want Skyrim and other RPG based healing, grab “Eat To Heal” which does exactly what it says. If you eat you heal, instantly. You also get the LoZ BOTW thing of getting buffs based on what you eat, with more nutritious meals offering more buffs. Obviously this perk stacks INCREDIBLY well with like EGS’s Generic Culinary Warrior jump, or the stuff from Generic Restaurant, which includes a magic chef perk.
If you like the concept of being materially rewarded for fighting enemies, then “Looting And Shooting” is for you. This perk makes your fallen foes drop items, with stronger foes dropping cooler items. It’s simple but it’s strong and it’s a fun way of making sure you have gear that stays on your level.
“Blink Dash” gives you a reason to get the high ground. With this perk you can teleport places in your line of sight, either doing so instantly (potentially even attacking while you move, letting you do a “It’s nothing personal kid” type move) or letting you move through shadows to your destination, which can allow you to appear beside, in front of, or behind somebody. This form of the move doesn’t require line of sight, letting you move to places nearby instead, even if such things are around the corner. This is great in a firefight or in a sticky situation where enemies are hidden around corners.

Synergies with other Burkess jumps

I’ve previously mentioned that this jump is the second in a trifecta of jumps that are perfect for being a monster-lord type enemy. This jump, along with Generic Protagonist 2 and Generic First Person Shooter, are just sick when used in conjunction with each other.
This jump gives you perks that grant you access to explosive growth, magic, the ability to talk to monsters, and transforms you into a boss-type monster better than Generic FPS does since there are perks here that allow you to do stuff like merge forms together and grants you access to forms based on foes you’ve defeated. Plus you can even recruit enemies, if you can converse with them and there’s SOME sort of common ground.
I think jumpers make fantastic foes and bosses of enemies, and this jump goes a good way towards showing off the potential of that idea, especially when combined with some of Burkess’s other works.

Conclusion

This is honestly just a really good adventurer jump. There’s probably less stuff here that breaks settings than there is Generic FPS, but that’s because a good gun at your side can really fuck up a wizard or archdevil, and there’s still stuff here that comes in CLUTCH in a range of encounters, especially stuff that lets you ignore invincibility. With this jump you can tackle Ancano in that Skyrim quest without grabbing the staff from Labyrinthian, you can tackle Voldemort, and you can do all sorts of other wacky shenanigans. I highly recommend this jump, and I think the stuff here is worth grabbing, and worth grabbing EARLY. Check it out!

2024.02.13 17:40 MyDarkrai Is… Is Quina gone?

So obviously my first action in this game was to LoZ throw a vase at Quina after exhausting her dialogue to see what would happen. She ran out the door and evaporated out of existence… is she gone for good? Is there a way to respawn her?
I just read that doing things in this RPG have some hard consequences, so if I need to restart before I get out into the village and stuff then I’ll do it I guess…

2024.02.08 12:10 baconbeak1998 [PAID] Hiring pixel artist for indie game demo potential longer-term top-down 2D RPG

Hey everyone!
As a fulltime software engineer with a passion for gaming, I've been working on my first medium-scale project and I'm seeking talented artists to collaborate with on my project.
The game is a top-down action/adventure RPG with a focus on exploration and hunting creatures. Think LoZ mixed with Monster Hunter, with a tightly coupled singleplayemultiplayer experience, procedurally generated worlds and more in-depth customization of weapons, armor and the player character.
Most base functionality is already in place, and I want to release a demo soon to give people a taste of what the project could become, and hopefully generate some hype for a longer-term continuation of the project.
Right now, the game uses a bunch of placeholder art assets, but for the demo I want to help it stand out with some great pixel art. The artstyle I'm going for is inspired quite heavily by Octopath Traveler and Sea of Stars. It's not 3D or isometric, but rather a straight-on top-down perspective like the Legend of Zelda games, with characters and enemies being able to move and attack in four directions.
Here's what I'm looking for:
While UI design, tilesets and NPCs aren't a priority at the moment, I'm open to discussing potential contributions in this area down the line. If the demo is a success, we can also discuss further development.
If you're interested in joining the project, please comment or send me a DM with your portfolio along with an estimated price range for your services. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
I'm excited to collaborate with talented artists who share my vision for creating an immersive and visually stunning gaming experience. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Edit: Thanks for everyone's kind messages and applications! I have found a great artist to work with and I'm excited to see where it brings the project. If you sent me a message and I haven't gotten back to you yet, I'm sorry, but the response was pretty overwhelming! If you're interested to see where the project is headed or wanna be a part of what the future holds, keep an eye on my reddit account.

2024.01.08 19:42 NewspaperBoring1161 Finally fully armed with the best!

Finally fully armed with the best!
Finally fully loaded with the strongest weapons I could make!
I have a route of silver lynels I wipe out to collect their loot after each blood moon that includes at least 3 of em (more if I wish). Between that, raiding the desert’s depths for pristine gerudo weapons, and always snagging the trusty respawning gerudo spear right up the stairs to the left just past the entrance to gerudo town when I drop by I’ve gradually inundated my inventory with more and more massively fusion-power stacked weapons.
Finally, today after a lucky haul in the depths, I found myself exclusively stocked with these babies and the ever trusty master sword bound to whatever item I need for rock smackin’, tree cuttin, and slaying easier foes not worth the hit.. With these weapons, atk. boosting armoelixirs and the stupid strong savage lynel bows I’m feeling rather OP 😅 I do hope this game also has hero mode.
I still very much enjoy the endless creative potential of building various devices that switch up fighting and traveling styles and the massively expansive range of collectible items to hunt down/upgrade that keep gameplay fresh, as well as the coliseum battles with strong enemies still keeping it somewhat challenging when desired. I’ve loved LoZ since I was old enough to solve a puzzle, and also love RPG’s so naturally BOTW was phenomenal for me. After years of being in love with that game the nostalgia I have for the series in general AND now for this style of gameplay in particular make playing this game genuinely one of the most immersive and enjoyable gaming experiences of my life. I truly enjoy reading posts here and seeing all the ways that this game is uplifting to you all as well :)
What are some of your personal favorite ways to kill time and switch up monotony in the land (and sky) of Hyrule?

2023.12.27 00:36 Evilkenevil77 Nintendo Guy just got his first PlayStation console. Help! I don’t know what to do!

I’m a die-hard Nintendo fan, and just got my very first PlayStation/Sony console this Christmas from my (recently deceased as of Dec. 9th) Stepmom. It’s a PS5. It was a very thoughtful and generous gift that was expensive to boot. The truth is, despite absolutely adoring my Nintendo Switch, Nintendo consoles just plain can’t play games like Baldur’s Gate, Hogwarts Legacy, or GTA 5. It isn’t powerful enough. I’ve always heard that you can’t compare the two ecosystems as they’re different experiences. Not better or worse per se, just different. Nevertheless in my Nintendo castle I’d glance over and be all “gee, I’d really love to play Baldur’s Gate” and of course the new GTA 6 game was announced, so I DID admittedly want a PlayStation, but what always stopped me was the great expense of the console. I was afraid that not knowing much about PlayStation I’d spend $600 on a console with very little to play. I’d rather have PlayStation over XBOX right now too because XBOX has few if any modern exclusives (Starfield anyone?), and why bother getting an XBOX when I can play nearly all of those games plus exclusives on PlayStation?
Luckily, the console cost problem has now been solved for me. Now, to actually use and play the console. But that’s the other thing. I’ve been a Nintendo guy for so long. I barely know the PlayStation ecosystem…I’m not sure what to play. I’m a PlayStation baby, and like all babies I need help.
I got GOW Ragnarok as a pack-in title, I’ve heard great things, but I’m not sure I’ll enjoy it. These are my absolute favorite games I play on Nintendo. I’m hoping that telling about these titles will help other recommend PlayStation games that are similar that I’m more likely to enjoy.
I know for a fact that I’ll enjoy GTA 6, but that’s two years away (I’m so excited that I actually have a console now that will be able to play it!!!). My favorite games on Switch (and of all time in fact) is the Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, and Breath of the Wild. I’m also a huge fan of the Pokémon franchise. I’m really enjoying Advanced Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp, Mario Kart, the Final Fantasy Pixel Collection, the old GTA games, the Mario Bros. platformers, and I have enjoyed Persona 5 decently so far. Past games I also really loved on Nintendo consoles are Mario Odyssey and Galaxy, LOZ OOT, Puzzle Games like Tetris. I also have been really loving Hogwarts Legacy (for Switch, I know, it’s not as good, but I didn’t know I was getting a PS5!). I haven’t had much experience with “Epic, cinematic” games to be honest, but believe it or not TOTK and BOTW have given me tastes, and I’ve played the older GTA games, plus a few others. I can say this right now, and it’s one of the reasons I avoided XBOX or PS, I AM NOT A FPS GUY. I’ve never really been into it and I’ve tried to get into it but I get bored so fast and I suck at it. Im not into Fallout, COD, or Fortnite. I just don’t get it. Plus it genuinely gets me dizzy at times. I have trouble getting through Metroid Prime because of dizziness so COD definitely doesn’t give me a better experience.
I know with a high degree of certainty I will enjoy Baldur’s Gate. It’s basically D&D on console, and it’s got good storylines, and RPG elements which seem to be what I like. I also have a strong feeling I’ll enjoy The Last of Us. It’s story driven mostly, and it has great reviews. I know there’s shooting in the game, but it seems like it has more to it than just that.
I’ve heard of all sorts of games on PS5, like Elden Ring, Blooodborne, Dark Souls, Assassin’s Creed etc. but I’ve never played any of them so I have no idea if I’ll even enjoy them. Plus spending $70 on a game you don’t even like…no one wants that.
What do you guys think? What would you suggest to me, a Nintendo nerd? What games do you think I’d like the most? What should I do now that I’ve finally joined PlayStation? How can I best enjoy my new premium console?
TLDR: I’ve always played on Nintendo consoles, now that I have a PS5, what should games should I check out? What should I do to best enjoy my new PlayStation?
Thanks in advance! (And shout-out to my Stepmom Robin! I know you’re gone now but I still really love the gift! I miss you and love you!)

2023.12.02 04:56 Kallicalico [US-IN] [H] LoZ 3DS + goodies [W] Paypal

Hello!
I'm trying to sell my Legend of Zelda 3DS again, but I'm hoping to sweeten the deal a little bit more to make it worth it.
Images of the items that I'm selling: https://imgur.com/a/k5UUPRu
With this 3DS, I would like to toss in these items as well:
The 3DS does come with the charger, its own stylus, and a 32GB memory card so you don't need to worry about that.
The 3DS has very very minor scratches on it, you can't even see them unless if you tilt it at a certain angle. Even then, there is only one or two scratches and they are not very deep. Other than the serial number sticker gone from the system, it has been taken care of.
I am hoping to ask for $300 for all of this, shipping is included in this price as well. This will probably have to be ground shipped, due to the battery in the 3DS, so it might take a good minute to reach you. If you'd like priority shipping, if that's possible, you'll have to pay a little bit extra for that.
If anyone has any questions, or want a closer picture of something, let me know. :)

2023.11.17 20:28 wminsing Hello and glad to have found this group!

I actually joined a few days ago but finally getting around to posting this. Really glad to see I'm not alone in my interest in a TT Zelda experience and look forward to being part of the group. I come bearing, well not gifts, but a couple of interesting links.
Forgotten Ballad - A Sword & Song Adventure Game by Eric Bloat — Kickstarter
Cries of the Overworld for the Forgotten Ballad TTRPG by Eric Bloat — Kickstarter
Forgotten Ballad is a rules-lite RPG, and while not explicitly set in LoZ it's clear where the inspiration comes from. I'm not associated with the publisher, just like the system and thought it might be of interest to folks here.
In the inspiration category here's a 'conceptual remake' of the infamous Wand of Gamelon game into something less.... lackluster. Sadly the project when on hiatus awhile ago, but there's some great concept art and other ideas here to fuel some RPG adventures for sure.
The Legend of Zelda: Staff Of Gamelon (tumblr.com)
Update: Another good old link, NorthCastle is an old School Zelda site, and has some interesting fanon the Adventure of Link towns that I've used to help inspire my own setting.

2023.10.08 16:55 Wrongrider My game suggestions

So many people are going thru burnouts or just can't find games that interest them so instead of replying to each of those I'm going to go thru the games I've played and enjoyed much more than I thought I would, or games that I just run back to. These will across a few different platforms.
Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. (I'm sure Diablo 4 will get there, but even with the upcoming QoL changes it doesn't seem like the devs have put fun back in yet)
Starcraft 2
Heroes of the Storm (sorry I'm just an old blizzard fan)
Smite
Fortnite (Out of the different BRs this is still my favorite because winning any fight in the game becomes a challenge)
Black Desert Online (I put in over 5k hours (mostly afk) before I finally couldn't do it anymore, and no game has scratched that itch since)
Crusader Kings 2 (3 is probably a better game I just haven't played it enough)
PGA 2k21 and 23 (such a chill game, make it as easy or as hard as you want. So many late nights with a few friends shit talking and laughing for hours over a couple rounds)
Stardew Valley (even got my wife to play for a few weeks with me)
Hades (I heard a lot of hype about it, shrugged it off until I saw a coworker playing it so I tried it, then bought it 30 minutes later. So many hours lost)
Borderlands 2 (I had so much fun with 2 that playing 3 just felt bad even though it was a good game)
Satisfactory
Subnautica (It wasn't until my 3rd time trying to play this game that I could get into it but wow)
Boneraiser Minions (a Roguelite that has stolen my heart, almost like a bullet hell because you don't typically do anything your minions do. It almost brings back old school D2 necro feelings. The dev team has updated this game more times in the last month than most games get in a year)
Vampire Survivors
Final Fantasy Tactics (my favorite ps1 game)
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 10-2 (Why, I don't fully know but I loved it)
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (I have kept my PSP alive just for this game)
Final Fantasy 15 (So much of the game is just 4 guys goofing around on a road trip)
Oxygen not Included (I have never continued the same game ever, every game I have learned something new or want to try something different)
Hollow Knight
Doom Eternal (To be honest this was my first doom game since I played Doom on SNES and had a ton of fun with the campaign)
Cat Quest 1 and 2 (A cute rpg with so many awesome puns)
Swords & Souls Neverseen (I played the original swords & souls on kongregate so was really happy to pick this up)
Nier (This game was completely overlooked when it first came out on ps3 but I loved it and nobody I knew heard of Nier until Automata come out, I was thrilled when replicant came out)
Halo 2 (probably just nostalgia for me but my favorite, although I have only played 1, 2, and 3)
Any Dynasty Warriors games (8 would probably be the most recent better choice, 9 went with a big open world that doesn't feel as good to me as the rest of the franchise but I don't feel it was as bad as everyone made it sound)
Masters of Orion 2 (an old pc game but was always a challenge)
Fallout 4
Skyrim
Tap Titans 2 (I played this for just short of 6 years before I finally moved on)
Raid Shadow Legends (So difficult to start, so easy to fall into the dopamine gamble summoning. It can be fun, just don't let it consume everything)
Idle Mage (such a basic game but I have had it on every phone I've had for like 10 years)
Fortress Saga (my current mobile time consumer)
Plague Inc (sometimes its nice to just kill the world)
Kingdom Come Deliverance (the combat in this game is very unforgiving especially early on, spend a lot of time training. What really made this game stand out to me is the armor, nothing stupid truly accurate armor)
Mario Kart 8
Super Smash (any of them they're all fun)
Fire Emblem Three Houses (first game I played of this series and I absolutely loved it)
Prototype 1 and 2
White Knight Chronicles
Star Ocean Till the End of Time (The best game in the franchise in my opinion)
Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past (my first love of the franchise available on switch now too)
LoZ Wind Waker (This one stands out in my memory just because I really enjoyed the final fight of the game)
LoZ Breath of the Wild (Amazing game, haven't played TotK yet)
EVE Online (Insane sandbox game, I played this for about 5 years straight)
Cyberpunk 2077 (haven't played phantom liberty yet but, Cyberpunk left a hole in my heart for about 3 days after I finished it)
Ratchet & Clank (Love them)
Conker's Bad Fur Day (an awesome N64 game, worth watching some videos on)
Celeste (Can be infuriating to play some days I only got thru one or two screens a day before I gave up that attempt)
Okami
Age of Empires 2
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Portal 1 and 2
Nanobreaker (not sure if you can even find it anymore but I had a blast playing it)
Drakengard 1 2 and 3 (great games, there's even a special ending that leads into Nier)
Legend of the Dragoon (outstanding ps1 RPG)
Lunar Silver Star Story (One of my favorite RPGs ever)
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue (The two games of this franchise are so good they deserve their own lines in my list)
Beat Saber (rhythmically cutting blocks with lightsabers is lots of fun)
Hope these suggestions help someone.

2023.08.19 19:10 Tymonionul [Online] [5e] [Gmt] [DnD] [Noob-friendly] [LGBTQ+] Homebrew setting, looking for 2 players to join. (5e)

"Hello criminals, bandits, and monsters alike, I am here to inform you that you've been caught and are being shipped to the prison of Loz where after the appropriate number of years have passed, you will be executed, but don't worry about that, you got all your life to waste in prison but that's just your average life as a monster, whether you were falsely accused or not, we don't care, this is how things are and you can't do anything about it."
Hi, sorry for the rude awakening, my name is Timo and I am the Gm of this campaign, what you just read is a demo for what is about to come if you join this campaign, I know it sounds like the start of an RPG horror story but fret not, your opinions and wishes will be heard, so no over the top stuff and killing characters just for the sake of it and random [REDACTED] scenes with [REDACTED] in them, I am trying to make the best experience possible for everyone at the table, so no edgy loners or horse girls with Critical Role expectations.
About the campaign, you are a captured criminal accused falsely or rightly who is being transported alongside others to the prison of Loz. From here you decide what race, class, and more importantly, what did(n't) you do to be imprisoned.
About your character: we will start at level 5, with 1 uncommon magic item and again, a bit of a backstory regarding how you managed to get arrested and what for.About you: this is a noob-friendly game and LGBT-friendly one so Idk if your name is James, your gender is a moose and your experience is none, you ARE welcome as long as u have a name and are ok with the fact that not everyone can pronounce it.
The time is Standard GmT at 1 PM, the day is either Friday or Saturday which will be decided once we all gather up, here is a link to look up gmt and show you you're time: reductedbecausemoderators said so.
Homebrew class, race, and other things are ok as long as I take a look at them before. The first session will take place next week, and by then you will have time to ask me all sorts of questions.
Requirements: a mic and a Discord account. If you are interested just send me a friend request at:

2023.08.01 06:49 PKSlippy [LoZ] [AoL] [ALTTP] Rating the first 3 games in the original trilogy

I beat A Link to the Past today and I can now give my opinion of the original trilogy of games
TLOZ- 5/10 I know it’s probably completely blasphemous to some Zelda fans but I do not like this game, I can definitely see how a kid in the 1980’s would get a lot out of this game. It really does feel like an adventure. The music is a certified classic and with the little amount of music going on, it does capture the essence of adventure. However the pros end there sadly for me. While it does nail the adventure aspect well, it does it a little too well. The game is wayyyy too cryptic. You probably know exactly what I’m talking about. You essentially need a guide to play this game, whether it is I, the 20 year old playing it in 2023, or little Timmy the 10 year old with his Nintendo Power Magazine back in 1987, it’s just way too cryptic. The “puzzles” later in the game essentially make it into “bomb the wall simulator 1987”.
Zelda II- 6/10 Call me crazy but I enjoyed this game a lot more than the first game… at least for the first 2/3’s of it. I had a lot of fun with the combat, and I, the certified RPG fan with my top 3 favorite games of all time being Pokémon Black and White, Persona 5 Royal, and EarthBound, I could get behind the RPG element of leveling up. I could feel Link getting stronger without collecting an item, it felt rewarding. The world wasn’t nearly as cryptic as the first game, some people argue that takes away the fun of Zelda, I argue that it’s nothing but a nice change of pace, as other Zelda games (especially BOTW & TOTK) mix the adventure aspect with a decent sense of direction very well together. Zelda II being more linear is a nice change to spice up the gameplay. But the last third of the game is just way too frustrating, it’s just really really hard. Everybody knows it’s really hard, and getting a game over is way too punishing as well. At first I welcomed the decent challenge of the first 2/3’s of the game, but the last 1/3 is just way too difficult. The final fight against Dark Link is cool though, sure you can cheese it but fighting him legit is pretty rewarding. Do yourself a favor and play the switch online version with rewind.
ALTTP- 8/10 A completely astronomical size improvement over the first game’s formula, it’s not too cryptic, sure a couple moments had me looking at a prima guide I had lying around, but that’s it. 2 things frustrated me though. 1. The bouncy enemies and the falling. Seriously, falling down the pits especially during Ganon’s tower is just pure frustration incarnate. 2. The Ice Rod. Yeah it’s a little nit picky but I was fighting the boss of the 7th dark world dungeon and I needed the ice rod, not gonna lie I didn’t even know it was in this game, so I had to backtrack all the way out of the dungeon and to lake Hylia to get it. In my opinion Minish Cap is my favorite 2D Zelda (I’ve only played LOZ, ALLTP, and Minish cap as my traditional top down 2D Zelda games) but this one is really good, a certified classic that holds up and is worth playing today.

2023.07.12 16:15 bargle_dook Recommend me some games.

I have $70 on the nintendo eshop waiting to be spent. I'm the type of person to preferably have most of my games physical, right now I have loz totk/ss, metroid dread, odyssey, mario party (the good one), and luigis mansion 3. I plan on buying paper mario origami king, mario kart, mario rpg, and maaaaaybe one of the pokemon games.
The type of games I love are the likes of souls games, just beat elden ring, horror games like dead space, RE, silent hill. The whole god of war series, the dmc games. Puzzle games like portal and the such.
I just can't make my mind up, and recommendations?

2023.06.04 23:34 Head_Weakness8028 Appreciation post

As a lifelong fan of the franchise, I simply would like to give a huge shout-out to the hardcore “Hyrulian Scientists” out there posting their “peer reviewed” experiments. I am one of the few, lucky enough, to experience the first two titles when they launched as ground breaking experiences on the NES. Breath of the Wild threw me for a loop with weapon and shield deterioration on top of buff food and gear! Now don’t get me wrong, over the years I expanded my gaming library deep into complex RPG’s, but I could always fall back on Nintendo with their linear LoZ experience. Truth be told I felt like I “pushed through” most of BoTW until it finally clicked. It wasn’t until my second play through awaiting ToTK that I fell in love with the new format. Fast forward to today, and I’m absolutely enamored with the direction the franchise has taken. Hopefully, some extremely informed Redditor delivers a backstory, but I am incredibly proud with Nintendo for taking a risk, and completely changing the format. Looking forward to buying the newest system launched to play the newest LoZ for years to come!

2023.05.13 05:12 wrldprincess2 My very short spoiler-free REVIEW of Tears of the Kingdom

BOTW was all about exploring the world map and getting acquainted with the world's lore.
TOTK creates an actual story/full-game out of the existing world map and lore.
I agree with people that say that BOTW now feels like a rough draft and TOTK is the fully fleshed out game that was waiting in the wings.
The Legend of Zelda series is not an open world game with RPG elements. LOZ has always been about an elaborate set of puzzles and exploration that serves as puzzles. It's a puzzle game and TOTK is the best one yet.
Will be playing this all weekend and will probably not check this thread. What's your review/take on Totk and the series? Hope you all are enjoying the new adventure!

2023.04.18 09:19 DefiledSol I do not believe that a Legend of Zelda movie would be as well received as the Mario Bros movie.

I find it strange that some people are talking like a LoZ movie would be unquestionably a great idea without taking into account prior history and the current scope of the series. I'm not saying it can't be done, but what I am saying is that there is a lot more you have to be careful of in this series than Mario.
First of all, what made the Mario movie work was that it was inherently stupid in concept. The movie knew this, and you probably knew this even before walking in the theater. Mario is literally a story of a tubby Italian plumber having to stop a giant turtle who wants to bone a human princess in a land of giant mushrooms. Its stupid, which is why it was enjoyable to watch as the movie made fun of the concept while simultaneously blasting you with every conceivable reference it could. LoZ doesn't have this luxury because, despite what you may say about all the zany side characters and weird humor, the conflicts of Zelda games are generally serious in nature and played straight. (Ignore Triforce Heroes though I doubt you've played it.) In fact, they're basically just Tolkienesque fantasy and are told like an epic of a hero performing great feats throughout a long journey. The series is built for longer form storytelling rather than a single film, and a production wouldn't be able to lean into humor as easily
Secondly, I worry for how a movie production would handle the core trio of Link, Zelda, and Ganon/Ganondorf.
Link: Link especially is pretty tricky because he's a silent character in a narrative RPG. From Windwaker onward, he became more of a character rather than just the link between the player and the game, but its incredibly jarring to imagine him talking. While you might think this is a similar issue to handling Mario, its really not at a comparative level. Mario doesn't have much of a narrative to begin with, so how he interacts with other characters is either a none issue or isn't perceived as weird in favor of gameplay. LoZ, however, somehow built an identity out of a silent protagonist interacting with others all while being seemingly mute. Its even developed into a long-running joke in the series. For Link, less is more. If he is to speak, make it direct and with purpose. Joke around with his character too much, then you risk giving the audience Nam flashbacks to the 1989 cartoon.
Zelda: Of the three, Zelda has the most diverse characterization across the series. There's a lot of material to work with for her, but what I generally worry about is Hollywood's tendency to say "let's defy gender norms!" and inadvertently regurgitate the same sassy go-girl archetype from every modern film or show. To be fair, this is essentially what her alternate persona Tetra is, but she's a literal pirate. She doesn't have to be a damsel in distress, in fact, I'd prefer it if any possible adaption of LoZ had her traveling with Link rather than him flying solo. There are just better ways to characterize her. BotW's rendition of her was actually pretty good being a young girl struggling and failing to match up to others expectations while still honing the things she was good at. She was both endearing and somewhat competent in her own field.
Ganondorf: Ganon is a power-hungry menace. It’s really his only depiction throughout the series. Windwaker tried to give him more "human" motives for his senseless desire for domination, but it falls pretty flat when you consider that none of his actions have ever gone to benefit anyone but himself. And you know what, he's fine like that. He's the prince of darkness, malice and indignation given form in the shape of a man or beast. Keep him pure evil, and keep him threatening. Ganon doesn't make jokes, nor is anything about him or what he does humorous. He's arrogant with a dramatic flair to him that just makes him more evil and contemptuous.
While I'd like to go further into this topic and end it with my thoughts on what a decent adaptation of a Zelda story could look like, I'm getting bored, so I'll leave this for another day.
Edit: grammar
