2024.05.16 10:52 throwRA_momoli I[33M] got engaged to my fiance[32F] while still having feelings for my ex[29F]. What could I have done differently?

I'm of South Asian descent, and I spent nearly a year living with my girlfriend. Despite a few arguments, our time together was mostly harmonious, and I deeply loved being with her. We connected on every level, and I was genuinely proud of her and her achievements. However, one issue loomed over our relationship - my parents' preference for a slim partner. Although I had no issue with my girlfriend's weight, my parents were against a love marriage from the start.
Early on, I informed my girlfriend that marriage wasn't feasible. We decided to keep things casual, but over time, we both realized the seriousness of our bond. I could envision a future with her and conveyed my feelings to her.
Then, a medical emergency forced me to move back home. Constant arguments and emotional manipulation from my parents wore me down. Despite still loving her deeply, I ended things with my girlfriend. We agreed to remain friends, but the pain lingered.
6 months of searching for someone and I did not find any match I liked or connected with. There was a girl that I met on matrimony sites that I rejected but she kept following up and calling and texting and I was in a low phase and I also spoke to her. She was the type my parents wanted.
I could also talk to her but it was no where close to the connection I felt with my ex. My ex and I were talking at this time but my ex was trying to pull away from me. Finally after months of not finding someone I decided to give the other girl a chance and asked her to come meet my family. My family really liked her. Because she was more traditional I would say. She was also very docile and listens to whatever any body tells her to do .I told this to my ex that my marriage is fixed and we decided to cut contact. 2 weeks later, I had a bad fight with my fiance and I called my ex up because I felt she was the only who understood me. My fiance and I just couldnt connect, she was trying very hard but all my exes have been fiery, go getters and smart women. My fiance was just pretty and nothing else.
I took a flight and went to see my ex and stayed with her for 6 months while meeting my fiance once a week for lunch. The couple of times my fiance and I tried being physically intimate it was very sad. Since my ex and I very staying together our feelings for each other also grew. I was happy with my ex, she knew how to make everything all right. I tried talking to my parents multiple times that I dont want to get married but they refused to listen to my point. We had a small ceremony with close family and friends where they blessed my fiance and us. After the event , my fiance and I took a hotel room to celebrate and instead we had a horrible fight and I took a cab and went to my ex.
The entire 6 months that I was engaged, my mental health was horrible as I was constantly fighting and making up with my fiance. My ex was my support system, I saw that I was hurting her because she had feelings for me and I admit I was selfish and couldnt always be there for her as I was hiding her importance from my fiance.
Finally,as a last effort I fought with my dad to end this engagement but that did not happen.
My ex told me to come clean regarding the cheating with my fiance multiple times as all our friends and family were aware of our relationship and the cheating. I admit I lied and I told her I did.
My ex and I started arguing because she couldnt understand if I loved her so much , why couldnt I fight for her? We come from different family backgrounds. a month ago while I was staying with my parents ,she told me she was going to tell my fiance the truth as she felt guilty for her part in the cheating. She called up my fiance and told her everything. At that point as I had accepted that I was going to be marrying my fiance, I refuted everything and made my fiance look crazy and brought up her mental health struggled to discredit her.
I was angry that she tried to sabotage my marriage. My friends and family supported me in convincing my fiance that nothing happened and she is just a crazy ex. I know some parts I was wrong but my ex knew the whole truth, she knew my situation. Why did she have to go and disclose everything.? What could I have done differently.
TL;DR: I was forced into an arranged marriage and was involved with my ex at the same time.

2024.05.16 10:50 Impressive-Ad-5914 My simple system, that really really works (for me, and I hope for you too). Scroll to bottom for results...

Step 1. Vision: Create ambitious 10 year vision for your life that covers health, wealth and fulfillment. Print it out, stick it up. (This takes some real soul searching to do properly)
Step 2. Annual goals: Work out your annual goals that work towards the vision. Print it out, stick it up under 10 year vision, check off as done.
Step 3: Quarterly goals - create 3-5 key quarterly goals that align with your annual goals. Print it out, stick it up, under annual goals. Check off, as done.
Step 4: Sunday night - plan week ahead with 3 key weekly goals. Only takes 5 mins.
Step 5: Daily plan - Night before set 3-5 key tasks for next day. These are my non-negotiables. Get them done! (On the rare occasion you don't they get put on the next day until done or deleted if no longer mission critical).
Step 6: Capture and sort - have a task capture board set up on themes - Trello is my go to for this. That way whenever someone drops something on you drop it on there in the relevant column and get back to your key tasks of the day. (Use this board to help you plan your day/week if you need.)
Step 7: Perfect your schedule - design your perfect workday schedule that works around your life with key non-negotiable times for key tasks.
Step 8: Pull the levers - look for "force multipliers" all the time - something that you can leverage to get more done, earn more, boost health - eg AI, a VA or batch cooking.
I am not reinventing the wheel here but that is kind of the point - this simple organisation system has helped me 1) get in the best shape of my life at 40. 2) achieve financial independence and 3) hit the sort of work life balance I previously only dreamed of.
Hope it helps. 👍

2024.05.16 10:49 amerpie MarsEdit - A Blogging Editor and Publisher

People are getting tired of corporate controlled social media and turning the clock back to the early days of the web and starting their own blogs. Free and low cost blog platforms like Micro.blog, Tumblr and WordPress make it easy to get started. Most blogging platforms have browser based editors but you can have a much better experience with a lot more features if you used a dedicated blog editor like MarsEdit from Red Sweater software. Other paid editors like Scrivener and Ulysses are available or you can use free software like Obsidian and plugins to publish. I personally use MarsEdit because I like being able to switch back and forth between Markdown and WYSIWYG. It has word processing features like search and replace and it puts the focus on writing by providing a typewriter mode. Using photos is a breeze with several different ways to include and upload media. Once you get it set up, publishing to the web is done with the push of a button.
MarsEdit isn't cheap. A lifetime license is $59.95 with discounts for upgrades. It's also available on Setapp.

2024.05.16 10:40 R53_is_a_database I built the vector database AWS should have built

I love AWS's serverless offerings. There's a lot of ground you can cover with just a few services like Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, and SQS. But there's one thing that's always bugged me: there's no serverless vector database
When I think of serverless, I think:
  1. Managed
  2. Scales automatically
  3. And most importantly: pay for actual usage, like requests or storage, not for provisioned capacity
Which is why I feel AWS OpenSearch "Serverless" should be renamed AWS Elastic OpenSearch. With a minimum of 4 OCUs (OpenSearch Compute Units) to start, $700 / month is a lot to ask for a service that's supposed to be serverless
That's why I built SvectorDB, a serverless vector database designed specifically for serverless workloads, particularly those on AWS. It operates on a pay-per-request basis and offers native CloudFormation support, making it easy to integrate with your existing serverless applications
The API is streamlined, focusing on core functionalities: insert, update, search, and delete. Built with Smithy, the SDK will feel familiar if you're accustomed to AWS SDKs. And with built-in vectorizers, you can easily index and search vectors without having to host your own models
I'd love to get your thoughts and feedback on this project. Feel free to ask any questions you might have

2024.05.16 10:34 NeverBeenRung I went on a real date with a much older man and it revealed something about myself:

I (F20) grew up with an incredibly attentive father. I have him on speed dial on my phone. I love him more than most of the women my age can comprehend. I respect him, and I obey when he tells me I am in the wrong. More than that, I have a mother who doubts upon me just as well as he does. I revere her word more than anyone else. And yeah, here I am, still desperate to feel taken care of.
All things considered, it was actually the best date I’ve ever been on. I related super easy easily with him, we both exist with similar industries. He ends up looking incredible, I clocked him seven years younger than he is. But that doesn’t change the gap and doesn’t change what I’ve learned:
I am deeply tired. I have reached a level of burnout that is past the other cycles of burnout that I have been in. And because of this “deep tired“ I am desperate for comfort, and stability. I don’t know if you know anything about men in their early 20s, but typically they are very bad at providing comfort and they’re not in a place in life where they can provide stability.
I just want someone who’s going to be there and be reliable and through my experiences in the experiences of my friends… Over and over again, I am worried that I will never find that person. So forgive me for looking above my age bracket - I can’t help it.
I wish I could be enthralled or excited or turned on by these 20-year-olds… But I’m just not. I want to be done. I am tired of going on dates, I am tired of searching, I amtired of vetting, and I am tired of being told to wait.
I realize that I am 20 and therefore I am a baby to most of you… But anything that feels like rest… I cannot stop myself from reaching towards it. And if that means a brief foolish soirée with an over gentleman… I think that I am allowed that.

2024.05.16 10:24 Interesting_Mix1650 Sick of my in-laws

It’s been 5 years of happy marriage. My MIL is a single mother as my FIL passed away when my husband was in college with a heart attack. My SIL is like 10 years younger to me and there was a time during initial days of marriage where we stayed with them for a few months. Initially, I noticed that they did not treat my husband very well. The reason might be an age gap of 12 years between my SIL and my husband or because he wasn’t doing very well in his career. In every chance, my SIL tried to disrespect him and thereafter I witness a huge fight. I didn’t like the way she treated him and I tried to fix things between them since it’s family at the end of the day. However, things were still kinda weird between SIL and my husband and they hardly talk and I gave up on that since my husband also insisted that it’s better this way. Although, she was very sweet to me and I reciprocated that - planned birthdays for her since I thought it would be difficult for her, my MIL being a single mom. During our stay with them, I was laid off from my company (it was during covid) and I was finding it difficult to find another job.
We moved from there to another city since my husband was placed there with a high paying job and he had significantly progressed in his career. At the same time, I was still job hunting.
My in-laws visited us at our new place probably like after a year, and things changed just like that. My SIL started giving all the respect and love for her brother suddenly including my MIL and she started being like I’m going to be exactly like my brother. She started copying everything my husband does. And all of a sudden, she started this behaviour of being disrespectful to me since I was unemployed, putting me down during dinners by emphasising the fact to her brother that don’t worry, he doesn’t have to pay the bill always- she will start paying bills soon after college. She also tried to create issues between me and my husband by bringing up his past relationships- she highlighted that there was a time he had a crush on his cousin sister. (My husband had mentioned this to me and he admitted it was a stupid thing). Moreover, my SIL started passing slight comments to me like why do you go out of your way to plan birthdays etc. so, whenever they meet us, it’s been like this and my husband just tells me she is crazy but now surprisingly, they have started getting along well since she has started looking up to him. However I would like to emphasise the fact that my husband was very supportive when I was unemployed, and he tried to motivate me everyday.
There was also a point where my husband and I travelled abroad for a vacation and my in-laws hated me - they give subtle signs that they have to struggle there and I’m traveling abroad by just getting married. Also I’m from a rich family compared to them so my MIL keeps passing comments that my SIL had to struggle her entire life unlike me.
I find it so hard and I’ve been avoiding her. I finally found a job after 2 years of job search and constant interviews since the job market was bad. They still disrespect me sometimes in subtle ways or my MIL keeps comparing me with my SIL, she keeps praising her with things like oh my daughter is the best and she will be successful soon like she’s obsessed with her kids. They keep putting me down in a way that since I’m already 30, and I had a 2 year gap I’m never going to as successful as them. My SIL acts like this adult who has taken over everything just because she finished college and received a job offer immediately.
Currently, I’m happy with my job and things are going well on the career side for me. But whenever I meet them, I can’t handle this shit and I’m sick of this. And I don’t know how to stop this. The only thing I do is avoid them. It’s always like they give me the feeling that their family is doing much better than me and I don’t belong with them. How do I deal with this?

2024.05.16 10:21 Kitsu_nix Why are the wandering nobles looking for ruin fragments ?

Why are the wandering nobles looking for ruin fragments ?
Hello, I am very new to the game so please do tell me if I’m wrong (I haven’t even beaten the first « story » boss yet) but I have noticed that the wandering nobles are looking around ruins for ruin fragments (you can verify this buy killing the ones kneeling and digging near those ruins, they will sometimes drop ruin fragments along with berries) and talked to my friend who has already beaten Elden ring and is a huge lore fan about it.
My question is why ? Why are nobles looking for these fragments ? I know they went insane but were they already doing this before becoming like this ? If yes, why are nobles kneeling on the ground to look for it and not sending peasants instead ? I have been told that they are doing what they would do before going mad. This description on the wiki proves this : « Abandoning their birthplace after the Shattering, these undead beings are the pitiful product of unending life. They are most commonly found struggling to maintain balance while roaming the fields of The Lands Between. Surely they were in search of something once - but whatever it was has long been forgotten. »
On the item description, it says « [the ruin fragments] are believed to have once been part of a temple in the sky. », so do they think they can find more about this « temple in the sky ». And why would this temple be so important to them that even nobles are actively looking for it.
It doesn’t look like they are searching for sanctuary stones, only ruin fragments, but I might be mistaken.
So why are they looking for ruin fragments ? What have they been looking for for so long ?

2024.05.16 10:11 ira_shai_mase a sudden and very specific "craving"?..

i hope this won't sound stupid.. a couple days ago i've came across a recipe for crepes (flour, egg whites, a dash of milk, nothing fancy). i wasn't searching for it, it just popped up on my feed and initially i was like "oh cool, might try it someday" and now literally all i can think about are those stupid crepes. i just wanna make them so bad. and i don't know how to combat this craving just because it's so specific. like i don't crave sugar or bread, i don't crave oil, i don't feel any "real" craving that would signify something, i just wanna bake crepes according to this specific recipe. ????
i recognize this feeling because a year ago i had a similar story with cottage cheese. my brain literally went hellbent for a week or two just obsessing over 0% fat dry cottage cheese (VERY specifically, nothing else would do, just this goddamn cardboard dry cottage cheese), i couldn't think about anything else and ended up buying and eating a 200g pack just to not feel anything at all and going back to normal right after. back then, i thought that it was just a way for my body to signal that it's lacking calcium, - i've been restricting heavily, - so this craving could be at least explained. but now, with those crepes....??? neither flour nor egg whites or milk are my fear foods. i'm so confused

2024.05.16 10:01 Madi_is_Mad Who is Elica Le Bon, and is that her real identity?

Who is Elica Le Bon, and is that her real identity?

Disclaimer

All the information is readily available by google search or was once accessible by the public, therefore public information. Please be respectful of all parties mentioned below. REAL HATE AND DOXXING IS NEVER TOLERATED IN ANY SHAPE OF FORM.
The main subject is a person who goes by "Elica Le Bon" online who has gain some following since 2022 on Instagram, TikTok, and X (formally know as Twitter). She has other platforms that she promotes her artistic endeavors, but they seem to be inactive and had gain little traction. If there may be more public knowledge that gets missed in this post, please feel free to share your sources.

On the surface*

Elica Le Bon is a first-generation Iranian immigrant who according to Piers Morgan and herself was born in Iran, moved to the UK to seek asylum. She does go into further detail an interview with Yasmine Mohammed, where she claim her mother's side of the family fled to the UK during the Iranian Revolution in 1979, whilst her father was doing his PhD at Oxford, which was cut short when the regime cut off his scholarship, forcing him to work at a bar. In that same interview, she also claimed her mother and sister were in Evin prison, (notorious site that hold political prisoners before and after the Iranian Revolution.
and currently living in Los Angeles, where she practices law and runs several large social media accounts that bring attention to the plight of the Iranian people.
Elica garnered her following across most social media platforms during the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement in 2022, in 2022 protest had broke out over the death of Mahsa Jina Amini, after she died from her injuries sustained by the brutal assault committed by the morality police of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) over Iran's strict hijab law. Elica's position against the IRGC and the Iranian Regime has been consistent since up to date. However, it is unclear what her position is when it comes to who shall take power over Iran if and when it does the current regime falls.
When it comes to the topic of Israel and Palestinians, Elica's had acknowledged Palestinians briefly in her Blog titled "My People, Your People" dating back to 14/11/2015. She had also made Pro-Palestinian statements numerous times on her X account (formally known as Twitter), as seen in screenshots below.
from X.com
from X.com
In more recently, Elica had shifted dramatically, from being called "Iranian Born, Lawyer, Artist, and Social Media Influencer" who "believes in Palestine and their rights and that there is suffering", by Chris Cuomo on CUOMO on NewsNation to a zionist sympathizer. That shift was described in her interview with Noah Tishby on Israeli Channel 12 where she claimed her friend's immediate support of Palestine soon after the attack committed by Hamas "chilled" her to her "core" because that meant to her that they "must hate me (her) so much". She has also expressed the same sentiment on her X account seen below.
from X.com
Elica today is now openly sympathizing for Zionists on X, as seen below, smearing student protestors and people who she once was, a Pro Palestinian. She was also on Fox News, bashing on protestors, calling them "a generation that don't know how to think" and "don't know how to process information." She also claims the are "an existential threat to middle eastern community; Israelis, Iranians, Syrians, Palestinians even." She can also be seen on CUOMO on NewsNation, the second time around, to criticized protesters and supporters of Iran's Islamic regime amid recent bombings of Israeli targets, saying they're "supporting a terrorist regime." Elica on Piers Morgan claimed that Hamas started this war due to the attack that happened on Oct. 7th, which is an overused talking points to avoid the conversation of how the oppression and slaughter of innocent Palestinians occurred long before Oct 7th.
from X.com
from X.com

Lets dig deeper**

Here are some other interesting public discoveries of Elica upon a deeper dive into her identity pass the surface. If you open her linktr.ee found on her instagram, you can see she has an an email for the public to contact her. If you search that same public email on google, it reveals that the email is somehow linked to 2 other last names that share the same first name, N. Mojtahed-Zadeh and Zadeh.
from Instagram and linker.ee

Elica Zadeh's Father, Pirouz Mojtahedzadeh***

If Elica "Le Bon" is indeed the same person as Elica N. Mojtahed-Zadeh or Zadeh, which there is not strong evidence to show otherwise, we can she start to uncover who had raised her into the person she is today. A quick google search of her last name, Mojtahed-Zadeh, you can see another notable person that goes by the name Pirouz Mojtahedzadeh. According to his page on wikipedia, you may discover that he has quite the connection to the IRGC. Pirouz has articles ligitimiing the IRI. Even articles argueing for the IRI to have nuclear power. He writes his pieces with a man strongly tied to the IRI. Noteable to add that her father has since tried to burry his past, and posts Monarchist Propoganda on instagram now under the name u/pirouz_mojtahedzadeh
Now previously, Pirouz has publicly supported the IRGC in his social media account, including the statement and video he had posted on X on 07/01/2020. Pirouz in the same video appears to also show support to Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian commander, who was assassinated by an airstrike ordered by former president, Donald J. Trump.

Pirouz has written 3 opinion pieces, all published by The New York Times, listed below. And interestingly, in 2 of 3 of the opinion pieces published by NYT, you can see Pirouz had wrote them with a person name Kaveh L. Afrasiabi. Kaveh was charged for being an unregistered agent of the Iranian Government by the DOJ as reported by the Office of Public Affairs released on January 19, 2021 (Updated July 13, 2022)
For more than a decade, Mr. Afrasiabi was allegedly paid, directed, and controlled by the Government of Iran to lobby U.S. government officials, including a congressman; and to create and disseminate information favorable to the Iranian government,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Bonavolonta. “The FBI will continue to do everything it can to uncover these hidden efforts and hold accountable those who work for our adversaries to the detriment of our national security.”
Although Kaveh received a presidential pardon by President Biden and the pending charges against him were dropped at the pre-trial stage on September 18, 2023, there is no doubt that Elica's father, Pirouz was in close contact with Kaveh where they had share some ties back to the IRGC.

Elica's problematic connections

Moj Mahdara: A problematic Iranian-American for her handling of Beautycon, as reported by The Wrap and WWD. Elica Le Bon, as seen in an interview with Moj on her Reset The Algorithm Podcast, where they spoke about their traumas as Iranian diaspora and their reaction to the Oct 7th attack.
Noa Tishby: is an Israeli ZIONIST. Elica has visited Noa's resident for an interview. Elica has also been called the "Brown Noa Tishby" by other Israeli Zionist.
Gazelle Sharmahd (Daughter of Jamshid Sharmahd): GazelleShe can be seen defending her in her stories against Journalist who had "expose" video on Elica in her instagram as seen in the screenshot below. See Elica calling Gazelle a "friend" on X in the screenshot below. She also Gazelle's story with Elica side by side, almost seemingly AI generated or heavily photoshopped.

Mahsa Townsend: Was involved in a contentious civil lawsuit "Jack in the box INC vs Ultra Fun Foods INC" in San Diego, where Jack in the Box employees were allegedly horribly mistreated by Franchise owner, Mahsa and her Husband, Kevin Townsend. Besides the now dismissed lawsuit, Mahsa has been repeated and fearlessly defending Elica Le Bon against Samira Mohyeddin as seen in the screenshot below. It is also alleged in the Reddit Community that Mahsa Townsend had or still has an Iranian Zionist led group chat that work together to slender and bully anyone who crosses Elica Le Bon.

Elica's other connections

Reza Pahlavi, Crown Prince of Iran: oldest son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. He is a zionist who keeps a gift from Hitler passed own by his grandfather. His wife, Yasmine Pahlavi, is seen at pro-israel marches. See below Yasmine, expressing confusion how a political prisoner (Narges Mohammadi) could possibly have communication with someone outside prison. See also photo taken of Reza, Yasmine and the infamous Benjamin Netanyahu altogether below. See also below photo of Elica with Reza, who happens to be wearing the exact same outfit.
It is also noteworthy to point out that Reza's grandfather, Reza Shah, was known to be an admirer of Adolf Hitler. See below image of a photo of Adolf Hitler with his signed autograph with his best wished for Reza Shah Pahlavi.

Welcome to the Daily Discussion Thread. This is the place for asking noob questions, venting about netplay falcos, shitposting, self-promotion, and everything else that doesn't belong on the front page.

New Players:

If you're completely new to Melee and just looking to get started, welcome! We recommend you go to https://blippi.gg/ and follow the links there based on what you're trying to set up. Additionally, here are a few answers to common questions:
Can I play Melee online?
Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.
Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?
Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.
How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?
First download it here. Then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. You'll need to bring a valid Melee ISO (NTSC 1.02)
I'm having issues with Slippi!

How does one learn Melee?
There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.
