2024.06.09 22:00 GarlVinland4Astrea My worst day of travel ever, courtesy of Jetblue! (warning: long.... that's an understatement)

This is all work travel related.
Context: I had a nonstop flight from Denver to Boston at 9:30 MST that was supposed to get back at 3:30 EST.
Story: We get on the aircraft and it immediately delays. We sit on the plane and they say they have to get a mechanic and shut down and restart the plane due to some technical issue. The process takes almost 45 minutes where they shut everything down, the plane gets uncomfortably hot and then it slowly restarts. Once this is complete, they tell us we have to get off the plane because they need to take the current plane out of service. We are informed we should wait at the gate to get updates.
At the gate the attendants inform us that they are looking for a rescue flight to assist but can’t guarantee it will happen. They also say there is the possibility to rebook to one of the existing flights Jetblue has at the airport that day. They also inform us that if they got a new plane, it would still need to fly in from Boston or LA, and take about 3 to 4 hours to arrive in Denver. As a result, I rebook.
The flight I rebook on is scheduled to depart at 1:30PM EST and arrive at JFK at 7PM EST for a 9PM connection to Boston that gets in at 10PM. While I am waiting, I speak with the attendant at the gate multiple times to make sure that my checked bag will be moved to the new flight. I am assured more than once that this is the case. This will become relevant later.
After waiting a few more hours we board the new plane. We spend over an hour taxiing on the tarmac because they shut down a runway. To give you an idea, I watched almost all of Hunger Games before we even took off. Finally, we take off for a 4-hour flight, there’s tons of turbulence and plane drops very abruptly at one point which startles every passenger on the plane and is shakey coming in. I’ve flown over a hundred times; this was the worst I experienced. Obviously, the conditions and the turbulence are not the fault of the airline, it was just another part of the story.
When I get phone service at JFK, I see that my connecting flight got pushed back to 11PM. I later find out that because we were delayed so long, we missed the connection as it left while we were getting to the gate (because apparently, they couldn’t wait 15 minutes for us to get off). Which was also likely because some inconsiderate clown started walking around and made the plane stop on the ground when they told everyone to wait in their seats. They made an announcement telling the passenger to get back in his seat and he still proceeded to ignore it and go to the bathroom or whatever he was doing and had us stopped another 5 mins.
Anyways, once we are at JFK, we were told to go to the gate to get our connecting ticket because the Denver airport could not process the connecting ticket. After waiting in a decently long line at the gate they tell us that we actually need to go to the JetBlue help desk which is on the other side of the terminal from the gate. We go down there and after waiting in line the agent is has my ID and is processing my ticket. Then her extremely rude boss/manager comes over and says she needs to stop what she is doing because she needs her to do go something else. The person assisting me tells her that she is already in the middle of processing my ticket and asks to just finish it because it will only take two more minutes. The boss says no and tells me to stand back at the front of the line and wait for someone else to become available. I can’t stress this enough; I was in the middle of being helped and had to start all over when it would have taken at most a two minutes MAX to finish the matter and process my ticket.
At this point I call customer service to explain the situation, after 15 mins get disconnected from the first agent which is just beyond frustrating and I never get a callback and have to go through all of this again. I get a $150 voucher. Everything next is after dealing with customer service and incorrectly assuming I was compensated adequately and I had one short flight and my troubles were over….
After finally getting through some of the worst service I’ve experienced at an airline, we finally get on the plane at 11…. Then we are waiting for another 45 minutes. The plane is unbearably hot. everyone is sweating and uncomfortable. Straight up torture. The staff makes an announcement telling us all to turn the AC at our seats on so the plane can cool down and then they start passing out water bottles. We find out the delay was because the pilot wasn’t there yet and they couldn’t fully turn the plane on all the way to cool it down. When the pilot finally gets there, he tells us that he was delayed on the tarmac on another flight and doesn’t understand why we were boarded in these conditions without him. He recommends we should call Jetblue to be compensated for this experience (spoiler, it didn’t matter)
Totally unrelated to airline mishaps again, to add some fun flavor to the story, while we were taxing, the gentlemen in the seat in front of me got demanded the passenger in front of him use his headphones while he was using his phone. Not unreasonable, until the second man told him to fuck off. I thought they were joking and having a friendly back and forth and thought they new each other. That was until the second guy started saying “I don’t know why you are laughing; you don’t want to start with me”. The first guy asked “was that a threat”, we then got the “I don’t make threats routine” and then as the second passenger finally got pissed enough to start putting all his stuff down as I was terrified, they were going to delay the flight again, the flight attendant rushed over and asked what was going on. Like two kids on the playground, they played dumb and were told to cool down.
Meanwhile, in the row directly behind me, I spent the whole flight listening to husband asking his wife why she ditched him for 10 hours while they were on a vacation. I can’t stress this enough, this bickering went on the rest of the flight until the husband finally asked “do you have a boyfriend, is that what is going on”.
I was sandwiched between the Jerry Springer show…
After that tremendous experience, I land in Boston, go to baggage carousel, my bags never come out. I pretty much expected that at this point. I know I made a point to go up the gate agent in Denver no less than three times to make sure my bags were being moved to the right flight. But by this point I lost all faith in anything going right for this trip. Myself and another passenger who dealt with the same wonderful day since our Denver flight got messed up, went to the Jetblue baggage service office at Logan. I found out my bag never did in fact leave Denver (shocker)! I now have to waste more of my time filing a report in the airport before I can leave. I will give kudos to the person running that though. She was the only person who was clear, concise and effectively got me through this process.
I finally get home at 2:30AM (I should have arrived home by 4PM).
The next day (around 8PM) I think things are finally going my way when I get a call saying my bag was at Logan and would be shipped Then I get the bag. Parts of the insulating rubber are ripped and scratched up which really could only happen if you were dragging it on pavement and didn’t give a shit at all. This was a year old decently expensive TUMI bag. So that’s just great Also because they probably left it out on the tarmac for hours on end in 90-degree weather, a few gifts I got melted.
I did make a point to call customer service again and explain my wonderful adventure, they decided to just hide behind their “Customer Bill of Rights” and say that there was nothing more they could do.

TLDR: I was on 3 flights that all got messed up between a technical issue that put a plane out of, a bunch of runway closures and nonstop taxiing in Denver, boarding a furnace without a pilot, dealt with terrible turbulence, some of the worst customer service I ever experienced at any airline, crazy passengers, and a lost and damaged bag and what should have been a quick 4 hour at most flight turned into a day of pure travel hell. But at least I can now entertain you with my dread.

Hey guys, I’m separating in about 2 years and the wife and I plan on moving to Dallas. I worked at Home Depot on 2015-2016 for about a year prior to leaving for the military and I really enjoyed it. Now after 10 years of service I’m separating and looking to start another career. Back when I worked at Home Depot I really had a great time but I’m looking into a managerial position I.E assistant store manager and was wondering if anyone can provide any insight into that job. I’m extremely nervous because I haven’t been out on the job market is almost 10 years and have no idea how to even get a job anymore haha I’m assuming I just apply and wait for a call back but I don’t know if me being in the military and not having any other jobs is good for my resume from an employer perspective. If anyone has any advice for me to ease my nerves that would be awesome. I know 2 years is a long ways away but it might be sooner just depends on how things shape out. Hi! I have bought a bottle of Dolce & Gabbana Devotion from a small Italian retailer that has physical shops all over Southern Italy. This retail chain is an authorised distributor of many luxury brands such as Lancome, Estée Lauder etc as listed on the brands' website. I couldn't find any info on the Dolce and Gabbana website as It only lists the Dolce and Gabbana boutiques, not the distributors. The bottle looks perfect except for some details in the heart at the front. The heart is gold-coloured as supposed to be, but some corners appear to be without gold colouring. They are in fact black and look like plastic. Apart from the colour, the details are perfectly crafted. Does your bottle also look like this? Do you think it's a fake or only a defective packaging? I have contacted the customer service of the shop and they refused to exchange it. They said the details on the heart are normal but I haven't been able to see another bottle that looks like mine from online pictures.

If not for the $100 the ScoopX UHDs or if anyone would prefer to buy from a different name brand instead with some sort of warranty, I would highly recommend buying a Swarovski NL Pure 10x42 if budget isn't limited no questions no iffs and or butts. This brand spanking new Swarovski NL Pure 10x42 I just bought and received is hands down a truly one and done no need to ever upgrade to anything else unless you're like me who buys everything anyway out of curiosity especially the cheapest Binoculars to access their actual value per money spent when compared to the $100 ScoopX UHDs.
If on a budget I'd recommend a Vortex Razor HD for $499 or $450 with Cabela's club card when they go on sale again like they did just this past November. The Vortex no questions asked VIP lifetime warranty is second to none and they even pay for your roundtrip shipping via prepaid return shipping label if and whenever you need to use their warranty. No proof of purchase receipt needed and absolutely no bullshit when dealing with Vortex. If you buy them used for $700-$750 typical selling used prices, they may be worth it to you just because of the superior warranty that you'll never need to pay out of pocket to ship. I'm definitely buying another Vortex Razor HD when Cabela's has another sale because I am really curious to check for sample variance because I only have this one pair of these I bought used that seems to be just a hair clearer than the ScoopX UHDs and actually tied under certain sunny daytime conditions and just a bit quicker to focus sharply while the ScoopX UHDs takes a little more time to focus sharply.
If you don't mind a shitty warranty then the Nikon Monarch HG is worth buying brand new from any authorized Nikon USA dealers because you need to buy from an authorized Nikon USA dealer and has to be brand new sealed box no demos or open box discounted models in order to qualify for their 7 year warranty with proof of purchase receipt. They are clearer than the Vortex Razor HD. I'm on the fence about whether or not they're actually worth spending $999 for them though due to their current shitty warranty and customer service. I've first hand compared two of them in 10x42s and their glass were both identically sharp and clear. These are clearer than the Vortex Razor HD and near Alpha level of glass and feel very comfortable in hand. If they were way cheaper like the ScoopX UHDs I'd probably own 5 of these because of their shitty warranty. Not kidding. I bought my second used Nikon Monarch HG that didn't with out and sent back for refund due to it being damaged which wasn't disclosed at the time of purchase. Next time I might just buy a brand spanking new one from an authorized Nikon USA dealer if they ever go on sale aside from the typical 10% off many places already offer for everything. They are pretty damn good actually aside from their current shitty warranty.
If budget is under $500 then I'd recommend the Bushnell Legend Ultra HDs for $300-$370 from Amazon depends on camo or black. They're discontinued and these appear to be old stock. They're almost as clear as the $100 ScoopX UHDs but not as sharp nor as ultra high definition nor have edge to edge crispness which the ScoopX UHDs have due to their field flatteners. Bushnell's warranty also pretty much sux and they may not actually want to honor your warranty by making all sorts of lame excuses that you abused them so their 20 year lifetime warranty warranty is null and voided.
The other almost as good as the ScoopX UHDs are the 2018+ V202 Vortex Viper HD 10x50 if you are fortunate to get a good one and don't mind chromatic aberration under high contrast situations and a little extra weight. They typically sell for $550-$600. The $299 10x42 ones being sold at Cabela's aren't as good as these 10x50s and have a much narrower FOV.
The other almost as good as the ScoopX UHDs are the Athlon Cronus UHD Gen 2 for $499 or $399 on sale if you are lucky to get a good one that won't make you feel like throwing up and if aren't sensitive to their overly tweaked field flatteners which make me really dizzy and nauseated looking through so far three of them already. I kept the one that didn't make me feel as sick looking through them. They are kinda heavy at closer to 30 ounces and I personally prefer using light weight Binoculars such as the ScoopX UHDs and Nikon Monarch HG for everyday use and the Razor HD is 25-26 ounces which is just past a little heavier than what I feel comfortable holding free hand and using daily. Only exception to weight is the Swarovski NL Pures even though they actually weigh 29-30 ounces, their impressive well though of designed ergonomics really make them feel as light as the 23.9 ounce ScoopX UHDs believe it or not you have to actually handle one to believe it.
The Burris Signature HD 10x42 Rangefinder Binoculars is another I'd recommend if weight isn't an issue at around two pounds and if you are lucky enough to get a good one. If so then they're worth buying for $999 due to their no questions asked lifetime Forever warranty including their electronics.
The alternatives to the ScoopX UHDs I'd recommend would be spending more than $500-$600 on other brands at least for close to comparable image quality or just buy a Vortex Razor HD for warranty minded folks or Nikon Monarch HG for everyone else who don't care about having a good warranty but getting a truly awesome fantastic Japan made Binoculars. I think if Blackwood's Pursuit actually tested the Nikon Monarch HG in their $1000 Binoculars class they would have taken the top spot.

On December 1, 2023, a very weird little playlist came into existence and I don't think it was talked about enough. It has become my Roman Empire.

Searching for “spiral alice” on Spotify returns no artist by that name.
However, there is a Spotify radio playlist titled “spiral alice Radio.”

What is a Radio playlist? According to the Spotify Community page, “Spotify Radio is a feature that creates a playlist based on any Song, Album, Playlist or Artist you select. The playlist also updates over time to keep fresh.”

On both Apple Music and the Spotify radio playlist, “spiral alice” is stylized in all lowercase.

Both are greyed out on the playlist preview and appear as either track 1 or track 7.
From the Spotify spiral alice Radio page, as long as the users aren’t logged in to Spotify, it is possible to select the songs from spiral alice but they can't be played. The release date for both tracks is listed as June 7, 2023, and the copyright is listed under the name “Alice terreal” (last name not capitalized).

What's on the playlist?

Users reported the following about their individual spiral alice Radio playlists:

Users didn’t have all the same songs, but there was significant overlap.
Users asked friends who do not listen to Taylor Swift to see what kinds of songs were included for them; there was also significant overlap between those playlists and the playlists of frequent listeners of Taylor Swift.
When logged in to Spotify, there are no songs by a “spiral alice,” or an artist page for that name.
The playlist featured a very small preview image at the top of the playlist that showed the Taylor Swift video “canvas” for the song Mastermind.

Normally a Spotify Radio station starts with the artist whose song, profile, or album the station is based off of. This playlist started with a Taylor Swift song for all users (although the song itself varied).

All users reported that the playlist followed the pattern of the first song being a Taylor Swift song, as well as every 6th song after that. This pattern has since changed.

Songs called "Labour," "Ceilings," and "Tunnels" were included prior to the TTPD release ("Years of ~labor~, locks and ceilings," "Gray and blue and fights and ~tunnel~s" are lyrics from "Fresh Out the Slammer").
A song called "Wild Winds" was included prior to the TTPD release ("Wise men once said 'Wild winds are death to the candle'" are lyrics from "The Albatross."

Shazam YLM, Get “Error Track” - A TikTok user made a video (reportedly in June 2023, but it gained traction in December) to say that she heard You’re Losing Me on the radio and wanted to know what it was called so she could buy it. She used Shazam to identify the song and was taken to “Error Track” by spiral alice, with the same black and white profile image as appears on Spotify. She tried three times to Shazam YLM and was brought to Error Track all three times. The screenshot in the user’s video showed that “Error Track” had been Shazamed 18,872 times by the time the screenshot was taken.
Google spiral alice, Get YLM - In December, when users searched “spiral alice,” several reported that they got hits related to YLM.
“Capillaries” Anagram Fan Theory - An article published by Just Jared on the evening of December 1, 2023 titled, “Who Is Spiral Alice? Taylor Swift Fans Think They've Decoded Mystery Songwriter on 'You're Losing Me'” explains that the fan theory behind spiral alice is that it is an anagram for capillaries, since Swift used her heartbeat in the background of YLM. The only other song in Swift’s catalog to use a recording of her heartbeat is “Wildest Dreams” from the album 1989, where she credits the recording as “Heartbeat - Taylor Swift.” Some fans criticized the interpretation of “spiral alice” as capillaries, saying that despite being part of the vascular system and connecting arteries to veins, “capillaries” isn’t synonymous to a heartbeat.
Is It an Alice in Wonderland Reference? - A lot of people noted that “spiral alice” could be a reference to Alice in Wonderland. Imagery surrounding the Alice stories, from original book illustrations to the Disney film retellings, classically include spirals to symbolize disorientation and whimsy.

Are there technical explanations that would explain all the coincidences surrounding this playlist, and what are they? For example, how are the themes of the songs so consistent/consistent with Taylor's (especially recent) work? How did the playlist's creation coincide so well with the release of YLM?

On a side note… Statistics are so grim at Apple Valley Animal Shelter which is not far from Devore. About 7% of the cats make it out of there alive. Residents and businesses in south Arlington can resume using water from the tap for all purposes
A series of rigorous tests have determined that the system is safe following a significant water main break early Friday, June 7, at S Walter Reed Drive and S Four Mile Run Drive.
Crews were able to restore water pressure within 90 minutes of the break. Because water pressure dropped drastically, the County issued a Boil Water Advisory for southern portions of the County out of an abundance of caution.
Water samples taken through the weekend, in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Health, have confirmed that the water meets all state and federal standards.
Arlington County appreciates the patience and understanding of its residents, businesses and their customers as staff followed procedures that place public health and safety as the highest priority.
Water customers are advised to run their taps for a few minutes to release any air and sediment that may have accumulated following the break.

TL:DR: I recently tried Fragrance Revival. They can’t match worth anything and seem to be slapping names on bottles to take your money. Classic bait and switch and few scruples. Order through Paypal as they can’t be trusted. They never even acknowledge they are advertising something that smells nothing like they claim and seem to be pasting form letters as responses.
The Long Read: I recently bought something advertised as “Body Shop Wood Musk Type” from their website, which offers an “instant refund” Hi. I just got my order and it smells NOTHING like Body Shop wood musk. it smells heavily floral and cloyingly of roses.
First Refund Request: I can’t even breathe it’s horrible. On the off chance this was an error, you are welcome to send the right one. otherwise, please refund me immediately.

This is not even close to what that smells like which is why I thought it must be an error. If that’s not the case, I would like a refund because there is no hope of matching it. If you don’t already know what it smells like.
you really should take that name off your page because what you’re offering is not even close. I can’t believe that you’ve sold this and have not experienced this response before. Which is concerning. Anyone who is familiar that could tell you that it’s not close. It’s been off the market since the 90s, I’m sure you’ve had plenty of opportunities to perfect it

Thank you for responding. Regarding your request for a description, I literally did that in the email you replied to:

My concern is that you market this product as “Body Shop Wood Musk Type,” implying that you know what this product smells like already and the fact is you don’t and scent me a product that isn’t close with the apparent intent to get my money and send me something I don’t want.
This is a classic example of “bait and switch.” In addition, you state:
NO RETURN NEEDED INSTANT REFUND POLICY. Who does that? We do. After being in business for over 10 years we figured out it’s the only way to successfully and ethically run this business.
And yet, even though I clearly gave you an opportunity to make it right by sending the correct scent, which any scent expert would know does not match and would realize by my description that the scent provided that you market as “Body Shop Wood Musk Type” is clearly either an an honest error or a deliberate deception, based on your company response most reasonable people would conclude the latter as no expert perfumer in good conscious could claim this scent resembles in any way what you advertised.
In short, neither the scent nor your claim to provide an “Instant” refund have been realized.
Please refund my purchase per your policy by close of business Monday, June 10th.
