Here is the link to actual research paper and two press releases from MOTA:
[in Open Access]: Motoyuki Sato et al., "GPR and ERT Exploration in the Western Cemetery in Giza, Egypt," in: Archaeological Prospection - In Advance of Print, 5 May 2024 https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/arp.1940 "A geophysical exploration employing ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) was conducted at the Western Cemetery, Giza, Egypt, in 2021–23 (..) We believe we found an anomaly: a combination of a shallow structure connected to a deeper structure. The shallow structure, which is L-shaped in the horizontal plane, 10 m by 10 m, was clearly imaged by GPR. It seems to have been filled with sand, which means it was backfilled after it was constructed. It may have been an entrance to the deeper structure. (..)" -- See next entry for a caveat.

2024.05.16 18:49 forestburg Is my daughter “slow”?

I feel guilty even asking this but I feel like I really need an outside perspective.
My daughter recently turned 4 and we have always felt that she was a bit “slow”. Before you ask, she does not get a lot of screen time (about 1-2 hours a week total) and we do a lot of enriching family activities- libraries, parks, museums etc. However, from a young age she has always taken a long time to absorb new information and she seems to have poor short and long term memory as well as poor critical thinking skills.
She only learned colors after age 3. At age 4 she can recognize maybe 2-3 letters consistently and 1-2 numbers consistently. She cannot identify some basic shapes like rectangle and oval. It is extremely difficult for her to learn new letters/numbers/shapes no matter how many times and ways she is exposed to it. Note that we never force her to sit down and “work”, but we make sure she has plenty learning exposure through play/life.
Often after I read her a book she will be unable to answer a basic question about the story even though she appears to have been focusing. She is often unable to answer age appropriate critical thinking questions (ex: “why do you think that gardener built a tall fence around his garden?”). She almost always has trouble recalling new words/information even immediately after she learns it (ex: “this soft green plant is called moss! Do you know what this green plant is called?”) She will also often forget words for things that are not new to her- for example, the name of a specific fruit or animal.
She is very social and has age appropriate social skills. Her language skills are age appropriate. She has age appropriate fine and gross motor skills and was not late on any baby milestones.
Is it possible she just falls on the “slower” end of the intellectual spectrum? Or does what I described seem normal to you?
It’s hard for me to be objective because my husband and I are naturally bright and our other child is exceptionally gifted. So I have no real “normal” to compare to.

2024.05.16 18:44 Vegetable_Limit_8166 Is it normal for someone who dislikes you to watch you sleep?

I’ve always heard stories read out on Reddit (shoutout to redditor on YouTube) but I never thought I’d be the one asking for advice. I’ve seen it work and help people so please help me understand because I really don’t want this to be what I think. I want this to just be a silly mistake.
I’ll try and keep this as brief but there IS alot of events before this story. It didn’t just start this morning.
I (23M) woke up this morning facing the entryway of my room around 5:45am (I looked at my phone after it happened to see if I was even awake). The Person in this story was staring at me while was sleeping. A creepy smile on their face. I wish I was joking. The person was just STARING, smiling wordlessly leaning over the side of my pullout bed. It is in the living room which has no doors to keep them out anymore. When I realized what was happening and this was real and they weren’t moving just continuing to smile and stare I started shaking. I shook and eventually curled up in a ball and pulled my hood over my head hoping they would just give up and go away. I guess they weren’t expecting that but he didn’t explain anything or try and say sorry, they just went “oh?” And “woah”.
I stayed there until I could breathe again and went to the bathroom immediately to make sure I’m really awake this is real. Checkd my phone in the bathroom it was 6am. When I came out they were sitting at the kitchen table, not to talk and explain, but sitting with the back of the chair facing me/ the entrance to the living room. They shuffled around for a bit after but then sat back in the chair cause it scraped.
I didn’t stop to ask or what they were doing. I have anxiety and ptsd and this messed me up good. You’re not usually prepared to wake up in your worst fear. I just went back down to my bed and told someone close to me what had happened as well as writing it all down.
I can share the screenshot if it will help.
The person concerned is not related to me by blood, they live in my family home with me my siblings and parent. They are late 40s/50 and have behaviors of abuse to all of us in the past. They never liked me so it isn’t a “loving parent looking on their child” but more like a wolf admiring a rabbit. I have not been here for 5 years because of something they did. This is not to assume anything. But I have reasons to be wary as I’m sure anyone in this situation would be. They also sleep on the couch in a different room (idk why). There are two dogs and three cats.
The only rational example I could see is of this is if somehow they just happened to be up and the cat was laying on top of the couch part. Only I would have seen my cat when i sat up. Or any cat for that matter but they were on the chair and drinking water. Why would they be staring at me like that? I am trans, they knew me before transition and it was worse back then but now? It’s got to be personal but why is my question.
Please help if any parents have done this accidentally please let me know and if you apologized to them for that or not. Comment any rational explanations you can think of. If I tell my parent it could end up with me on the street, it has happened before and they WILL choose their spouse. Regardless of whether it’s true so I will need some solid arse evidence to have a shot in hell. If anyone out there has any tips on how to survive like this and or what you did to get out of it. Thank you for anything you can offer and I hope you have an amazing day!

2024.05.16 18:41 clarkdahmer The "Joker's going home next month" conversation

I know someone else has made an analysis on the Valentine’s event, but I’d like to add the “Joker’s going home next month conversation” to it. (Well, I wanted to bring it up again and share my view on it, mostly because every time I get to the event, I think about how well her date is written and the dialogue choices Joker’s given for the he’s going home next month talk with her versus the choices he’s give with the other girls, which to me, they made it obvious that the writers love her. This is NOT a stab at you know who or the other characters, they did ribbon girl kind of dirty... + I have a lot of time on my hands right now.)
As we know in the Vanilla version, Makoto’s the only one Joker is direct with when it’s mentioned he’s going home next month. With the others, he either asks them if they want to come along as a question or as a joke. I was curious to see how it changed in Royal. (I watched a compilation of the other valentine’s and the first dialogue option was mostly chosen, well, except for Sumire. Non-thieves don’t matter much because they aren’t in the other games, so I'm not going to say much about them, you’re free to ship them though, that’s just my opinion.)
The Royal Version:
Ohya: “Sorry it’s so sudden.” or “I’ll visit when I can.” (I don’t care for her much, I only do her SL to see Lala! Lala is cool as shit and she ships him and Makoto.)
Takemi: “Will you miss me?” or “I’ll visit as soon as I can.” (I like Takemi, don’t get me wrong, but damn her date was done awful, besides I like to ship her with Sae.)
Kawakami: “I’ll see you again soon” or “I’m not your student now.” (👀)
Hifumi: “Sorry for the sudden news.” or “Want to tag along?” (It would have been strange to see her as a thief, in a good way, of course, but it’s better she isn’t. ((Her SL does come in handy.)) Also, I’ve seen people bring this up before, Hifumi was never going to be a thief, the development team said it themselves.)
Chihaya: “Sorry it’s so sudden.” or “I’ll come see you.” (alright!)
Futaba: “Will you miss me?” or “I don’t want us to be apart.” (I don’t ship these two, mostly because their dynamic throughout the game feels more like siblings to me, + there’s no romantic scenes or anything along those lines given to them. He’s a big brother to her and she’s a gremlin of a little sister. Plus Sojiro would probably whoop Joker...)
Ann: “Will you miss me?” or “Time for long distance.” (Damn Atlus… he didn’t get an option to ask if she wanted to come along with him. Well, you could see it more as a “we’ll still be together!” sort of thing, but considering how the lover’s arcana is usually pushed the most, P3 and P4 for example, you’d think it’d be the case in P5 and treat her like the past ones… Nope, it’s the priestess. They made it seem like it during Kamoshida's palace she's the one but as time went on, they weren't fucking with Ann AT ALL. I love Ann, but she treats Joker like a close friend and she doesn't show interest in him. Her interest goes to two other people.)
Sumire: “It might get lonely” or “Want to come with?” (it’s funny because he’s like it MIGHT get lonely and he doesn’t ask if she’ll miss him. If you pick “Want to come with?” she doesn’t take it seriously and laughs it off. As mentioned by u/VerbingWeirdsLang, she gets Makoto’s old lines from Vanilla, which is laughable because of how much they hyped her up and pushed her. You would think they’d write something good for her, NO! Just recycled shit! they did her dirty.)
Haru: “Will you miss me?” or “Are you mad?” (same with Ann, he doesn’t get the option to say “want to tag along?” or something like that. She doesn’t feel like a phantom thief due to the lack of screen time, so she’s just there. I saw someone say she’s a damsel in distress and yeah, I have to agree ((her SL, mostly and even during the story itself.)) Also, the fact he asks if she’s mad is funny because she can be a tad scary sometimes.)
Makoto: “Will you miss me?” or “Come with me.” (I like the response she has to “Come with me.” she says “Sure, let me get my tickets… I wish.” and the conversation after that. Out of all the thieves, I don’t know if you would consider Sumire to be a phantom thief considering what she’s said about them in the past and her only doing one palace… But continuing on, she’s still the only one Joker can directly tell “Come with me.” Her entire arc and the conversations she has with Joker, and of course, the romantic events are mature and well written. I don’t know if I could be convinced that Makoto isn’t the main love interest/canon even with Sumire being added. Makoto helped the story progress, she doesn’t feel forced and their interactions feel natural and they don’t leave you feeling weirded out. But come on!! Even her English VA ships them.)
Does this need a conclusion? I don’t know! You’re free to have your opinion on it.

2024.05.16 18:41 honeylovespellcaster How to Get Your Ex Back - Dr. Honey love spells

This is how to get your ex back.

When you’re going through a breakup, it is likely that you are experiencing anxiety, panic, shock, sorrow, desperation, and hopelessness. How to Get Your Ex Back - Dr. Honey love spells
Some even often report loss of appetite due to the discomfort and anxiousness that these feelings cause, often resulting in nausea.
Because of the severity of emotions after being dumped, many people in your shoes feel that their situation is uniquely awful.
People experiencing the pain of being dumped often think that their situation is worse than all or most of the breakup situations out there.
I certainly understand why you feel that way, if you do.
It feels so horrible and terribly unique in terms of how it affects you that it seems like no one else could possibly be going through this or that most people don’t go through this kind of pain from a breakup.
I usually tell people in your shoes that other people experience similar levels of pain and sorrow after a breakup.
However, I also tell them that people in this kind of pain and sorrow very often get back together with their ex as well.
I’m blessed to see people get an ex back every single day!

How to Get My Ex Back

Every day I get an email, a comment, or someone calls to tell me that their ex came back to them.
So I can tell you that the short answer is that, yes, there is hope to get your ex back.
My optimism on people getting their ex back is not because I’m a “pie-in-the-sky”.
It’s because I’ve seen so many success stories that now I expect most cases to work out if you follow through what I tell you.
The bottom line is that if you two had a good relationship, if there was chemistry, if you enjoyed each other, and if you didn’t respond too poorly to the breakup, your odds are good to get your ex back.
If you responded poorly to the breakup but had those other positives, your odds are not as good as the example above, but they still are solid.

I CAN SHOW YOU HOW TO GET YOUR EX BACK.

The No Contact Rule alone increases the likelihood and the level of hope of getting an ex back.
It’s just such a powerful thing that most people so often underestimate and overlook.
It’s not just a way to get your ex to miss you, it’s also a way to prevent you from making mistakes, from keeping them from being pushed away from you by the wrong kind of pressure, for them to see you has having the ability to stay away from them, and a way to get them to see that you could move on which would mean that they could lose you.
Those things work on the mind and heart of your ex and can help to resurrect emotional attraction – the core reason your ex broke up with you in the first place.

Hope to get them back Want To Get Them Back

If you stay strong, focused, and determined, you give yourself the best chance and greatest hope of getting your ex back.
It’s when people lose it and break no contact that they can delay their ex from coming back or even prevent it entirely.
If you have broken no contact, get back on the no-contact wagon and stay there! You still have hope, though you might have hurt your odds a bit.
The reason for that is because by you breaking no contact, your ex is reassured that you will wait around on them, that you can’t stay away, and that you aren’t moving on.

THEY WILL LIKELY DOUBT YOUR ABILITY TO DO SO.

Not only will this give them relief because they realize that you are there waiting as a backup plan should they ever change their mind and heart, but it also removes the positive pressure that was probably on them during no contact.
That positive pressure was allowing them to see that you could move on and that they could lose you forever if they don’t act.
Your best hope is to push through and remain committed to no contact.
Get your ex back with Dr honey love’s tips.
The best part about no contact is that it is sneaky. Your ex doesn’t see it coming.

WHAT YOUR EX GOES THROUGH BEFORE THEY COME BACK

You want to know how to get your ex back.
In fact, you want to know the best way to get your ex back.
First, I’m going to tell you something about reuniting with the love that you probably won’t like hearing at first.
After the breakup, your ex starts off in a stage of relief.
He or she was able to do the difficult, awkward task of breaking up with you and they are relieved that it is over and done.
So they enjoy feeling that it’s over and that it’s time for them to move on with life.
This stage usually only lasts for a few days or a couple of weeks.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, your ex starts to be curious as to why you haven’t reached out.
Your ex wonders why you haven’t fought and chased them, begging them to come back or to give you another chance.
That’s when your ex will likely become concerned or even afraid.
The reason for their concern is that if you aren’t chasing them, their mind jumps to the conclusion that you are moving on.
Or, worse, that maybe there is already someone else.

BUT PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PART:

I’ll take a second to say that you shouldn’t take pictures of yourself with a potential romantic partner and post it all over social media in hopes that your ex will see it, get jealous, and come running back to you.
It rarely works like that and is certainly not the best way to accomplish that.
Usually, they don’t want to face what seems to be an obvious rejection if they try to come back to you while you are with someone else.
So don’t fall for what I call a vengeance strategy. It’s just not effective.

HOW FAST CAN YOU GET YOUR EX BACK?

It’s important that you realize that getting your ex back will often be a case of taking two steps forward and one step back.
It’s not going to happen overnight because the breakup itself didn’t happen overnight.
Remember this:
Breaking up with you was likely something that your ex was considering for a while unless a major event directly caused a quick breakup.
As long as you are showing strength, respecting your ex’s decision, and giving them the breakup without them feeling you are “trying” to get them back, you have good reason to have hope that your ex will come back because you are doing it the best way possible.
Trust the process, believe that you are enough without having to come up with excuses to reach out (because it’s unlikely to be effective anyway), and that the principle of scarcity will likely result in your ex missing you (if you stay away) and this will help you win your ex back.
Stay strong and remember that even though it feels as though there is an urgency to get your ex back at this moment or else you will lose him or her forever, it’s simply not true.

It’s not as hopeless as it feels.

It’s important that you take things one day at a time and remember that the future is wide open.
As long as you and your ex are still alive, there is a path to the two of you being together.
It doesn’t have to happen today in order for it to happen.
You probably can’t get your ex back today, but you can push them away which, obviously you don’t want to do.
So prevent yourself from reaching out and communicating with them from a place of desperation, emotional panic, or anger.
Demonstrate grace, maturity, and strength so that in the coming days, months, and even years, your ex will look back on you positively.
That way, as your ex reflects and considers your place in his/her life, the door will be open for them to realize their mistake in leaving you.
It’s a powerful thing but something that requires discipline, maturity, and confidence in the process.

HAVE YOU TRIED ALL THIS!!!

It’s a shame but not do not lose hope.

2024.05.16 18:40 Vegetable_Limit_8166 AITA for being concerned I caught someone watching me sleep?

Please help me understand because I really don’t want this to be what I think.

2024.05.16 18:38 TRAIANVS Walking the Cracked Pot Trail 20 - In Which Erikson Roasts Fans

Next post

A lapdog's brainless zeal

The Entourage! Whence comes1 such creatures so eager to abandon all pretense of the sedentary? One envisages haste of blubbering excitement, slippery gleam in the eye, a lapdog’s brainless zeal, as a canvas bag is stuffed full of slips and whatnot, with all the grace of a fakir backstage moments before performing before a gouty king. A whirlwind rush through rooms like shrines, and then out!
We get Flicker dropping back into his more heightened style, starting off with a declamation. Remember how we ended the last section
He would unveil himself in Farrog, and then they would all see. Calap Roud, that stunning watery-eyed dancer, Purse Snippet, and the Entourage too—
So this is very much an interruption. Previously we had Flicker placing himself inside Brash's head, until he mentions the Entourage, at which point he switches completely and breaks out into this much more heightened description.
Flicker is back in his picture-painting mode as well, as he imagines the backgrounds of these girls. The first sentence is posed as a question, but is really more of a statement. I love the phrase "abandon all pretense of the sedentary". They were clearly from a wealthy background, living a carefree life before, but now they've chosen to drop it all to follow (in this instance literally follow) their favorite artist.
He imagines the scenario surrounding their departure, with the "blubbering excitement", a "slippery gleam in the eye", and of course "a lapdog's brainless zeal". I'm curious about the "slippery" descriptor there. Especially when paired with the lapdog comment, it calls to mind a dog skidding and sliding on a slippery floor as they're completely unable to contain their excitement. Does anyone have a different reading?
Then they stuff a canvas bag full of slips (as in the clothing, not as in paper slips) and "whatnot", showing how they're clearly not thinking this through, but rather just throwing things in their bag and running out the door. I love the comparison to the fakir. First of all, it hearkens back to the Arabian Nights inspiration, while also giving us the image of a fakir rushing to get ready for his act, but more important is how it works as a metaphor.
The Entourage (who as we will soon learn are all young women) are here posed as a performer, performing in front of an old, fat, wealthy man. It really spotlights the power imbalance between them and their idol. Then we end the paragraph on a sentence that I'm having a really hard time figuring out. What is the significance of the rooms being like shrines? Shrines are (definitionally) places of worship. So it's like they're rushing past these places intended for worship in order to worship their idol, perhaps implying that it would have been more productive to stay and worship a real god. But these aren't shrines, but rather rooms like shrines, so it would be a worship of the home or something in that direction. I don't think this would imply a worship of domesticity, the metaphor is not fleshed out enough for that. I think it's simply saying that they should rather try to stay connected to their roots. I must say I'm not fully convinced by this reading. What do you all think?

Holding up a mirror

Pattering feet, a trio, all converging in unsightly gallop quick to feminize into a skip and prance once He Who Is Worshipped is in sight. The Entourage accompanies the Perfect Artist everywhere, gatherings great and small, public and intimate. They build the walls of the formidable, impregnable keep that is the Perfect Artist’s ego. They patrol the moat, flinging away all but the sweetest defecatory intimations of mortality. They stand sentinel in every postern gate, they gush down every sluice, they are the stained glass to paint rainbows upon their beloved’s perfectly turned profile.
I absolutely love this image we get here of these three girls "converging in unsightly gallop" with their "pattering feet". It's juxtaposing two images, one dainty and the other the exact opposite. If you've seen one of those videos of cows being released out to pasture after the winter, that's basically what I'm picturing. But as soon as they're in the presence of their idol they switch into an exaggeratedly feminine gait.
Then there's the intentionally vague description of their idol. We don't get the name, but he's called He Who Is Worshipped and the Perfect Artist. This is a reminder that we're not talking about particulars, but rather the general case, in particular how people behave in real life fandoms. Let's examine the rest of this paragraph while keeping in mind that this is Erikson is holding up a mirror to us. And you thought you were safe?
The Entourage is always where their artist is. I think this is especially true in the modern day where fans have practically unlimited access to their favourite artists. And they act as defenders of their artist, and notice how at no point here we get any sense that this Perfect Artist asked for any such thing. They build up their own unassailable version of their artist, and then dismiss any criticism except the most basic, toothless ones.
Finally we get these three statements, two quick ones, and a longer one. They "stand sentinel..." is essentially a continuation of the previous sentence. Then they "gush down every sluice". This is a strange turn of phrase to say the least. A sluice is of course a sort of water channel, and since we're in this castle metaphor, it's likely meant as a preventative measure against flooding. But it's not water that's the risk here, but the gushing of the fans.
And lastly they are the stained glass windows that "paint rainbows" on their idol (with a nice alliteration on perfectly and profile). I really like this one. They are not only viewing their idol through rose-tinted glass, but they have made themselves a piece of stained glass, that colors the artist in every color of the rainbow. They are creating a false, or at least exaggerated, image of the artist, and projecting that image to others as well. I think this whole description really mirrors how fanatically devoted some people can get around their favorite artist, and I don't think we should exclude ourselves from this.

Let's back up a little

But let us not snick and snack overmuch, for each life is a wonder unto itself, and neither contempt nor pity do a soul sound measures of health, lest some issue of envy squeeze free in unexpectedly public revelation. The object of this breathless admiration must wait for each sweet woman’s moment upon the stage in the bull’s eye lantern light of our examination.
Flicker yet again addresses the audience directly. The phrase "snick and snack" here is interesting. A snick can of course be a small cut, and there's definitely been enough of those so far. I think the snack is not intended to have a semantic meaning, but is rather intended to complement the onomatopoeic sound of snick. The word "overmuch" is also doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Some snicking and snacking is fine, but let's not get carried away.
The "each life is a wonder..." part is hilarious. This is definitely an example of overpraising, where Flicker uses hyperbolic language while implying a much more subdued meaning. He's now spent two whole paragraphs detailing how ridiculous and vapid the Entourage is, but now he's all "oh the miracle of life etc. etc." So even when he's talking about how he should stop mocking them, he continues the mockery. Absolutely savage.
He then encourages us to not view them with pity or contempt. Possibly because it would be condescending to do so. Certainly nobody likes being viewed that way, and Flicker claims that it is at best unhelpful to take those attitudes. I am a bit confused, however, about the mention of envy. Is Flicker saying that he is envious of them? Or is he warning us to not be envious? Is there a risk, when expressing pity or contempt, of appearing envious? Are the Entourage themselves envious when we do that? I admit I'm kind of lost here. What do you think?
Flicker ends by calling attention to the fact that we haven't really discussed the Entourage's Perfect Artist at all. He's been this remote figure this whole time, almost irrelevant to the conduct of his fans. Note also how he's called an "object". That word has been used once before in this story, and it was to describe the way Purse Snippet was viewed by Calap Roud. This is not an accident. FlickeErikson is saying that the way the Entourage views their Perfect Artist is not entirely dissimilar to the way Calap Roud, a disgusting old pervert, leers at a much younger woman. Again, this is not lust for the artist themself, but rather for the godlike image that the fans have constructed of the artist.
And before we can know that artist, we are going to be introduced to these three young women, each more ridiculous than the last, before we get to their Perfect Artist. Indeed, they must suffer the "bull's eye lantern light of our examination". This is a great description of what Flicker has been doing so far with his ruthless introduction. He also doesn't call it an interrogation or even a description. No, he's simply examining each of these characters, down to their core2.
And that does it for this week's post. Next time we'll be discussing Sellup, the oldest member of the Entourage. See you all next week!
1 I don't know exactly what to do with this seeming error. It strikes me as an editing artifact. That is, Erikson originally wrote this sentence differently, then changed the wording but forgot to change the whole sentence.
2 And it's worth remembering that he may well be making all of this up.

2024.05.16 18:37 Astral_Zeta Is reverse grip a liable sword technique?

Is reverse grip a liable sword technique?
Well the topic of reverse grip is quite heated, with some saying that it’s completely useless while others say it’s fantastic. One of the justifications of reverse grip is that it’s defensive style, however there’s several problems with this, as you’ll be leaving much of the body exposed and probably lose your fingers. Another example of this is reinforcing your block in your forearm, the opponent’s sword would just go over it, hit your arm and you’d be taking the impact into your forearm. Half-swording in reverse grip is less versatile than using it in regular grip as you can change your hand position quite easily. Another justification for reverse grip is that it is good for duel wielding, but with the previously mentioned flaws, this falls apart, because if it’s useless in one hand, then why would the other hand magically fix all that? You might as well be fighting with one hand. Another thing Ive heard is that reverse grip is viable with an off handed parrying weapon such as a parrying dagger, like previously mentioned you’d leave your body exposed and lose some fingers, along with the parrying dagger’s cross guard getting in the way of your wrist as it was designed to parry rapier blades. Another justification for reverse grip is that it can catch the opponent off guard, which makes sense but falls apart when you think about it, because if a technique requires your opponent to mess up then your basically making a gamble. And one last justification is that it happens all the time in Hollywood and videos, but that’s the thing, it’s in a fictional setting, with fictional scenarios where everything is staged. And then there’s the reason why people defend it, because it looks cool and that’s it. Does reverse grip have any uses? Well it works if you’re just using a knife, or if you’re running away as you’re less likely to impale yourself if you trip and fall. So yeah, not really all that useful. If you’re writing a story with some swordplay, feel free to take notes.

2024.05.16 18:37 Thefilmboxpodcast Unfrosted (2024) Review: Mr. Seinfeld, Is The Comedy In The Room With Us Now?

Jerry Seinfeld, the once lauded comedian and sitcom star of the show that bears his name, has been making the news in recent days. Not only for his newest film, Unfrosted, which landed on Netflix on May 3rd, but also for his recent comments on the state of comedy (particularly tv comedy) in 2024. In an interview with The New Yorker, while discussing aspects of his own life and career, Seinfeld suddenly slammed “The extreme left” and “P.C. Crap” for ruining comedy on tv and for being too offended at jokes to find them funny.
Suddenly, the man whose biggest claim to fame since Seinfeld was a show about getting coffee with funnier folks than he found himself joining an intrepid list of comedians and celebrities from a “greater era” blaming the same things for not being funny anymore.
Well, Mr. Seinfeld, I have been part of the unlucky group to have seen your latest film, Unfrosted, which has to be one of the unfunniest film’s I’ve seen in the last year. At least.
The film follows the story of the invention of the Pop-Tart. In 1963, Kellogg’s and Post are rival breakfast companies that are scrambling to create the next best thing in breakfast cereal. Through a wild array of hijinx that include mexican and russian sugar cartels, cross-company romances a la Romeo and Juliet and striking mascots led by an intentionally over-serious Hugh Grant, the fight for breakfast pastry infamy raged on.
Seinfeld directed, co-wrote and stars in the film as Bob Cabana, the Kellogg’s executive who spearheaded the invention of the Pop-Tart. Melissa McCarthy co-stars as Donna Stankowski, and a seemingly never-ending who’s who of modern comedians including Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Sebastian Maniscalco, Cedric the Entertainer and more appear in various roles through the film.
To my surprise, I actually think Seinfeld nailed the intended vibe of a film with the type of whimsy as this carries. Instead of opting for a more serious tone like last year’s Tetris or Air, Unfrosted takes on a sillier tone. They know the story they’re telling isn’t to be taken with so much bravado, and I commend that. We currently are in an era where corporate biopics dominate, for some strange reason. With even more on the way, I hope they can match the tone that this film brings. As directorial debuts go, I was not offended by this one as much as others, and I really don’t think Seinfeld’s direction was the issue here.
The biggest cardinal sin that the film commits, though, is that it’s terribly unfunny. And that’s not for a lack of attempts either. There are so many jokes in the film. Only two I even gave a chuckle at. I counted. It made it difficult to even enjoy the performances put to screen by many of the skilled actors and comedians that appear in the film.

2024.05.16 18:37 Thefilmboxpodcast IJW: Unfrosted (2024): Mr.

2024.05.16 18:35 Vegetable_Limit_8166 Weird step parent watched me sleep but why?

2024.05.16 18:34 Environmental_Can922 Confused.

Hi everyone, I am writing this not necessarily because I am in search of advice but instead because I feel a real burning inside to say what I have to say about this because I do not feel comfortable at all talking about this to my immediate family or friends, and to ascertain if anyone else has similar issues. I am a cis 19M and I am having gender and sexuality related issues, but I cannot work out the cause nor appropriate response to them. All my life I have suffered severely from anxiety, not necessarily in the social sense, but just a general ongoing feeling of angst and concern that has never desisted. I also have severe mood swings, and bouts of depression, although I have never seriously felt suicidal. I feel very strongly that this is caused or confounded by some degree of autism. I have not been diagnosed, and I recognise a surge in misdiagnoses for these kinds of mental problems, but I do feel strongly about this (mainly due to very extreme repetitive behaviours and hyper-sensitivity to physical stimuli, as well as majoring in engineering related fields etc, and colour-grapheme synaesthesia). I say this as I believe it may be relevant to what I am going through.
I should also say that, despite an immense personal toll this has had on me, I have had a very positive few years in the later years of high school, both socially and academically, in a friendly and very typical cis-het group of male friends, where this kind of thing is entirely taboo. I present normally as a cis straight male to absolutely everyone in my life. However, I have faced a very distressing dilemma. In short, I enjoy secretly cross-dressing as female. The question I face is whether or not this is indicative of me being trans in someway, or whether this is a confounding issue due to other mental issues, or a kind of coping mechanism for those other issues, and whether or not any of this would undermine a transition. I should also add that, I do not plan to transition in any way in the foreseeable future for a few reasons, although I have considered it. One of them is that it would just be impossible to cling onto my previous life in any way due to the standard relationships I have with those closest to me. Although I am certain that my parents would appear accepting, I know that they would harbour deep concern inside and would resist telling me. Although I do not have a directly negative relationship with my parents, I do not have a close one either. I have lived with them for 19 years, but I do not think I have ever had a serious conversation with them about anything personal in my life at all. They are lovely people but I am just awful at opening up to them. The second reason is that I do not have gender dysphoria (probably), and would likely be fine continuing as I am. I only wish to work out whether I am in fact trans or at least gain clarity on my situation.
This being said, I do think that I have a kind of gender euphoria. I fantasise often about being the opposite sex. I yearn desperately for when I am home alone so I can cross-dress for the whole day. It is an overwhelmingly positive experience. This is not because of an immediate disgust for my body parts, but instead a real desire to just be female. I am aware of what many call autogynephilia, and I understand the problematic nature of this term, but for me it is very slightly sexual as well. Admittedly, I am slightly turned on not really by seeing myself as a woman, but instead a feeling of being “desirable”. However, this is not the whole story. When I dress female, I do not dress in a sexual way at all, and the feeling to dress up is there regardless of sex drive. I am very often not turned on in any way but still love dressing up. Basically, I would appear female every day if I could, and I am gaining a lot from it that is non-sexual. (I also don't get anything out of the whole humiliation kink thing in any way at all). This is partly because I just love doing my own makeup. I remember secretly having my makeup done by a cis female friend when I was really young, before I had any concept of sex, and it just feeling great. There is something about the attention and intimacy involved that is so comforting.
I often do feel like I would have fitted in amongst my peers if I was born female far better, merely because of the sheer disgust and inability to understand or get on with most of the males immediately around me. However, I am very conscious of the struggles that males face, since I myself of course am male, and am able to empathise strongly with such feelings and insecurities. Since I went to an all boys-school, the initial years of high school were incredibly hard and lonely for me, and I absolutely hated every minute of it. I was not bullied really at all, but I was nevertheless thoroughly miserable and felt very alone. I also have these desires more when I am lonely, and when I have a normal social interaction again I do often feel like I am giving a completely fabricated version of myself, that does however feel like a kind of reality-check. Its not obvious to me that if I was female in some sense, that my sense of outward appearance toward others would feel entirely natural, although I do think it would be more natural.
I feel like I can perpetually distract myself from these feelings in a way that is manageable, but also simultaneously wish that I was female. It seems to me like being born female would have been my ideal, then second best would be continuing to exist normally as I am now, and third best would be to transition, simply due to the stigmas and other related issues attached. Although I think I am attracted to women (although I developed lately in this regard) I cant help but think it is a kind of envy of her appearance. I am also attracted to some parts of the male body, like the chest for example, and imagine in my head often seeing men romantically, rather than sexually. I have never been in a relationship (although have had sexual relations with women in my normal life in the later and better years of high school), but I also do not want to be in a relationship with a woman really at all. But that may again be due to other confounding problems like anxiety. Basically, I am just very confused. I think that when I go to uni at the end of this year a lot of this will fade into the background, and I will be able to function as a usual cis straight male, but I am confident these feelings will never go away. Anyway, I appreciate anyone who read this far, but I would be very curious if anyone else has experienced anything remotely close to this (I also haven’t researched really into any of this stuff, and am very uninformed). Thanks.

2024.05.16 18:34 cqani290angoo Seeking Experienced Cofounder for Innovative Developer Tools Startup

Hey, my name is Abdi. I have 8 years of experience in coding, with a strong focus on backend development. I’ve spent 5 years as an open-source developer, contributing to popular projects like Golang and Godot game engine. Additionally, I have over 4 years of experience in game development and low-level programming languages such as Zig, C++, and C.
I am currently a first-year university student, and at 19 years old, I’ve never worked for or been paid by any company. I’m developing a web app that acts as a web engine to assist developers. Developer tools may not seem glamorous or revolutionary at first glance, but consider the vast market potential. For instance, there are over 1 trillion websites globally, and only 30% use no-code solutions like WordPress. The remaining 70% are built using coding, which is our target audience.
Look at success stories like Figma and Firebase. Figma with less than 4 million daily users and under 50k paying users, was acquired by Adobe for over $20 billion. Google acquired Firebase in 2014 when it had fewer than 200,000 users and only 3,000 paying users, for the range of $100 million to $200 million, but this has not been confirmed by either company.. These examples show the immense potential in developer tools. As the saying goes, 'During a Gold Rush, Sell Shovels.'
I’ve been working on this project for over 2 years and expect to have an MVP ready within 2 months. I know the need for this app because, as a web developer myself, I understand the problems we face. I need a cofounder with at least some experience in venture capital, preferably someone who has been a founder or has funding experience.
If you're intrigued to learn more about me or have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Additionally, I'm open to discussing equity distribution and any other aspects essential for our potential partnership
Preferred Contact Method(s): DM me or email me at [cqanimohamed4@gmail.com](mailto:cqanimohamed4@gmail.com). Also, please include your LinkedIn in your DM.
Thank you for reading this.

2024.05.16 18:31 Livid-Cartoonist5196 Elements, damage and relics

Hello, I have finished the story and almost all the side quests. But I still don’t understand something about elements damage and relics. For example, it is said that Fire relics protect against Fire damage, but also (in the Codex) that Water annihilates Fire. So, do you know if Water relics also protect against Fire damage (more than Fire relics, or less) ? Another example : Life and Death annihilate each other, and Life relics protect against Life damage, but shouldn’t it be Death relics instead ?

2024.05.16 18:30 Icy-Bodybuilder251 Final update since my reddit drama and story of my mental abuse

I have fully got over my reddit drama so i'm gonna try to avoid commenting on reddit hashtag try to but if I have someone try to get my attention don't bother I won't respond even if I do decide to respond it would probably be a one time thing and now to say I can confirm I am a former victim of mental abuse I won't explain it in full details but I will explain what I had to go through when I was living with my grandmother I had to go through mental abuse I never felt safe in my grandmother's home my grandmother always yelled at me even when I did nothing wrong my grandmother was mentally abusive to me she constantly yelled at me even when I did nothing wrong she always believed any lies that was told about me like one example I can remember was on March break 2018 my uncle told my grandmother that I stole the school snacks when I was at my mom's house laying in her bed sick all throughout March break then when I turned 20 years old on July 15th 2019 my grandmother decided since i'm almost an adult she could use my credit card I didn't know I had to buy smokes and made me go in debt then in 2020 which I admit became a very bad year for me first on twitter and deviantart I got accused of defending a youtuber called Cryaotic second I decided to push myself at school due to how I took my teacher's words which I now realized that she didn't mean her words how she worded them my teacher told me if I don't try my hardest then I won't succecced in life which I took her words that if I don't try then I will never become anything in life so I spent all my high school year doing school work I took no breaks aside from washroom breaks but drinking water didn't seem important to me it got to the point where my teachers kept telling me that it was great that I'm refusing to give up on school work but you need to take a water break or else you're gonna dehydrate yourself they told me that everyday but it eventually got to a point where my teachers knew that I wasn't gonna get out of my seat and resolve to give me a water bottle everyday then one day I decided I didn't want to live with my grandmother anymore so I went to my mom crying to her saying things like mom I don't wanna live with my grandmother anymore she's mentally abusive I want to live with you which my mom responded to me saying sure you can live with me you're 20 now you're old enough to make your own decisions then when I went to my grandmother's house we got into a fight and argument and I made the mistake of telling my grandmother how I felt about her and my grandmother kicked me out of her house she stopped doing things for me the last thing I remember my grandmother doing for me was her taking me to the doctors when I twisted my ankle my grandmother didn't even celebrated my 21st birthday with me during July when my mother asked my grandmother if she had anything planned for my birthday cause my mother wanted to know which my grandmother responded nope I don't need to celebrate your daughter's birthday you can celebrate your daughter's birthday by yourself I guess my grandmother thought me and my mom were gonna celebrate my birthday by ourselves but on the day of my 21st birthday my mother invited my siblings my boyfriend and friends of my mom to come to my birthday but my grandmother decided to be a bitch and complained to my mom about her friends cars blocking her driveway so they had to move their cars my grandmother even had a habit of throwing my friends and my boyfriend into blame when they had nothing to do with whatever my grandmother was blaming them for I haven't talked to my grandmother for years now and I tend to keep it that way I don't see my grandmother as family anymore all I see her as is someone who was a mental abuser and someone that abused my trust one thing I will admit is I believe in ghost and guardian angels cause I have seen them same with spirit animals which my spirit animal by clan is a wolf and that wolf spirit is everywhere with me I even own wolf items such as a wolf necklace a wolf blanket a wolf hat a wolf poster and wolf plushies I won't say all of the names of my wolf plushies but I will admit I name most of my wolf plushies after youtubers again I won't say all of their names but some of the names of my wolf plushies are Dawko(named after the youtuber Dawko) Jackmanifold(named after the Dream smp member Jackmanifold) Skydoesminecraft(named after the youtuber Skydoesminecraft) Punz(named after the Dream smp member Punz) and Foolish(named after the Dream smp member Foolishgamers) the last time I saw my grandmother was at my great uncle's funeral which I first heard about my great uncle's death was from my mother on that day I loss my story on wattpad to a false report my gaming chair broke and I broke my thumb nail off my gaming chair so I called my mom crying my eyes out telling her that my gaming chair broke and I broke my thumb nail and it was hurting which my mother told me that she's at the hospital with my great uncle and will talk to me when she gets home so I ended up calling my mom's friend to help me cut my thumb nail then when my mom came home she told me that my great uncle died and I took his death the hardest which I also realized on that day me losing my story to a false report on wattpad my gaming chair breaking and me breaking my thumb nail was spirital signs that I was gonna lose someone on that day and I loss my great uncle then when my mom asked me if I was going to my great uncle's funeral and that my grandmother was gonna be there which I responded to my mom saying that I will go to my great uncle's funeral but I'm not talking to my grandmother which my mom responded to me saying that's fine Destiny that's your choice if you want to talk to your grandmother or not so I went to my great uncle's funeral I talked to my family members that went to my great uncle's funeral but my grandmother cause I wanted to stick to my word which I barely shed a tear at my great uncle's funeral which I believe is probably cause I spent all of my time greiving for my great uncle at home but that's all I have to say about myself plus to add if I see a comment saying something about my grammer or puncation I will delete the comment and block you but to those who choose to stay and listen thank you
