Hello everyone,
A few years ago, I played Elite Dangerous on Xbox extensively, and it seems like I was quite invested in it back then. However, I transferred my Xbox account to PC, and to my surprise, everything went smoothly. I found myself with 150 million credits in my wallet, a fully equipped Chieftain that had even been engineered. The problem now is that I have no idea where I am, who I am, what my goals are, or even where my former home solar system was. I'm completely lost in terms of my relationships with factions and factions' stations. I barely remember how to fly—it's been so long. I'm feeling very frustrated because I want to dive back into the game, but I don't know where to start or what my current situation is. The last thing I remember was grinding for Federation rank and doing some missions for them. However, I find myself now in some random system (I believe Deciat was the system I was home at).
So, my question is: how do I relearn everything without losing a substantial amount of money and assets I've accumulated? Unfortunately, there isn't a tutorial that I can redo, and most of what I learned before was through trial and error. My current problem is that I feel like a child trying to handle a eurofighter with no prior experience on how to even turn on the engine. Should I perhaps buy a cheaper ship like the Eagle or Cobra and gradually relearn by throwing myself into the deep end?Then i wouldnt be spending thousands if not millions cuz i lost my ship or i was killed or destroyed.

Archean is an immersive Engineering Sandbox and Space Sim. The game is set on Earth, 3 billion years in the past, in the Archean eon.

XenonCode

We have developed a new programming language designed to be easy to learn and optimal for in-game virtual computers. The game has a built-in cooperative editor with syntax highlighting and multi-cursor support, as well as a node-based visual editor to facilitate scripting.

Adventure Mode

In this mode, you begin with nothing in your backpack. You have to gather resources and craft everything you need. You start by hand, picking up rocks, build mining rigs, build automated machines and so on. Some resources are underwater, some are at the highest mountain peaks. It's up to you to build vehicles that can get there. The ultimate goal is to reach the Moon.

Native Ray-Tracing

Our innovative renderer is fully ray-traced with a great performance. This is not a eye-candy, it's actually a necessary feature for this game to even exist, because of its dynamic nature. Since the content will be mostly user-created and it's set to be moddable out-of-the-box, we cannot afford any artist-driven baked lighting, and with the full scale aspects with customizable solar system, we need the sun(s) lighting to be completely dynamic based on the real-time scenario, instead of tweaking shadow maps and reflection probes manually like other games do. The entire scene is rendered in a single ray-tracing pass with many recursive light bounces. This allows for realistic hard shadows, perfectly reflective mirrors and physically correct refractions. Just make sure you have an NVIDIA RTX graphics card and you're good to go.

Space Sim

The final goal of this game is to be a Full Scale Space Sim with the entire solar system. At the moment we have the Earth and the Moon, Orbital Mechanics and Re-Entry effects based on velocity. There is no artificial speed limit, so you can actually orbit realistically at 8 km/s. You can also dock with your friend's ship while in orbit, if you're good.
We have great plans for this game, and we swear by our 5 commandments:

1. Thou shall obey physics

It's NOT arcade-style and we do not underestimate our players. You must understand science or be willing to learn some physics. The game features realistic 6-dof space physics without any artificial speed limit. As far as we know, it's the only multiplayer space sim where you can dock with your friend's space station while in space at Full Orbital Velocity. This game is NOT meant to be a dogfight-style space shooter because that would not be practical with realistic physics.

2. Thou shall not see "Loading..."

Seamless transitions, no loading screens, EVER! From ground to orbit to another planet... it's all seamless. The game also happens to "load" pretty much instantly... For reference, in our Quadcopter video, the recording started BEFORE the game's executable was launched.

3. Thou shall not hit a wall

No fake boundaries. No skyboxes. No predefined paths. IT's a true Open World game, and it's all full scale. If you see a mountain, it's not a texture... You can just walk there and climb it if you have the courage... But I would just build a Rover or some kind of aircraft to get there faster. The moon that you see from the surface of Earth is the actual moon's terrain that you will land on, if you manage to build a good enough rocket, that is. The stars you see are individually rendered points in 3D space. It's not a skybox. But let's be honest you won't ever be able to reach another star.

4. Thou shall not be Thee

Immersive, first person controls and no cutscenes. There will NEVER be a point where the player loses control of their avatar to a cutscene or to some long animation. This game will keep a focus on First Person Immersion. Even though there is a 3rd person view available, it's mostly for taking screenshots, the game is not meant to be played this way.

5: Thou shall make sense

Everything has a realistic purpose based on science. Nothing should be fake, and in-game technologies must be at least plausible with some math behind it. This means that there is no such thing as magical artificial gravity. There are only two ways to have gravity in your spaceship when you're in space:
Also, there will be no Faster Than Light space travel. The math for a plausible Warp Drive would not allow that, but will let you multiply your acceleration quite a bit, in a way that you can travel up to 99% the speed of light.

In Rebirth, Bugenhagen’s model shows that Gaea is the 7th planet in a 7 planet solar system. It shows natural satellites, or moons, around 2 of the planets but not Gaea. In the Cosmo Canyon scene at night, there is also no visible moon (tho this could be from a typical lunar eclipse or “new moon”).
What appears to be a large moon is seen in the background during the Seto cutscene. There also appears to be a moon in some night scenes in Remake.
In OG, there is a moon & you can look in Bugenhagen’s telescope to see a moon. The telescope isn’t accessible in Rebirth.
So does Gaea have a moon or not?

I've been toying with a thought experiment for a while and would love to hear from some actual linguists.
Basically, I've been playing this game that asks you to connect 2 random words together using only their synonyms. With all the multiple meanings that words have, it's pretty fun and can be surprising and satisfying. It's got me wondering if it's truly possible to get from any English word to any other English word within 6 (or some other number of) degrees of their synonyms.
I guess what I'm asking is what does the shape of the web of English synonyms look like? Surely there are some words that just have no synonyms and are little islands, but are most words interconnected in a giant blob, or is it maybe more like something of a solar system, with "hub" words serving as stars that link out in many different directions to many different meanings...
I'm curious if anyone has thoughts or a way they would approach this. Maybe it's more a question for math? Sorry if this has made no sense (I promise I'm not high!).

A void god control everything born in TCOA, so of course they'll be able to manipulate them and they'll be helpless, but what if something is born in the void? like cordonics, all of my energy based lifeforms, they cant be manipulated, infact since they were born in the void, their all filled with void energy, which makes them more powerful the older they get, think about the embodiment of the end, hes existed before time was and wasnt a concept, and he was already seriously powerful.
The void isnt filled with nothing, its filled with void energy everything to exist and not exist, if a entity were to be nothing, be the embodiment of absence, it wouldnt exist in the void, infact if it has a concious (almost everything does), It can easily be defeated by Conscious decayers, such as thh Supreme Empress, Or The EMBODIMENT OF THE END, he didnt only kill the void gods with his raw wrath, he also decayed their mind and soul, if you dont have a soul your still not safe.

*Warning, long post*
Something that I have been pondering my orb about for a long time, is the (causal) relationship the planes have with each other and how they affected another, either directly or indirectly.
I will start with an overview of the planes and their known (meaning explored in canon and kanon sources) relationships with each other. I added sources for some of the statements, because I am a nerd, mainly Exploring Eberron. They might not be perfectly precise though, and some parts of my statements may be from other sources, so sorry if I forgot to add them.
It is a common theme of eberron that the planes are largely self-contained, unchanging, concept-dominated realities, safe for a few exceptions (Dal Quor, Thelanis, Dolurrh), and that they do largely not interact with one another. Furthermore, their inhabitants either don't care about the happenings on other planes (ExE 144) or simply study/monitor them, like the panopticon of Daanvi (ExE 151) or the schoolars of Syrania (ExE 189-190, 193). (Addition: Curiously, this part is a bit contradicted by the astral plane section of Chronicles of Eberron (Page 113), which states that outer planar immortals use the astral plane to travel between the outer planes. Examples are an archfey being transported to daanvi for judgement or a syranian virtue traveling to the infinite archive. So there appears to be some kind of interaction and interest for another among the outer planes.)
The material plane is the centre of the planar system where all the planar concepts come together, and it feels the effects of the planes the most, due to manifest zones, wild zones and the lunar phases.
The likes of Daanvi, Kythri, Xoriat, Lamannia, Mabar, Irian, Fernia, Risia, Shavarath and Syrania are not affected by happenings on neither the material, nor other planes. Events that transpire in the material, for example, no matter how cataclysmic they may be (like the eon-spanning reign of the overlords, the reality-transforming experiments of the Daelkyr and the destruction of the moon cyra, are simply (seemingly) inconsequential to them (Except for Daanvi's Solar of Dal Quor, Tyrala, who vanished after leaving to investigate Dal Quor after Cyra's destruction (ExE 150)).
On the other hand, the likes of Dolurrh, Dal Quor and Thelanis strongly feel the effects of events on the material, and to some degree even another.
Dal Quor's dream of the age is very likely (We don't entirely know) determined by the collective emotions and dreams of the mortals of the material plane, over extended periods of time (ExE 153). The Age of the Dreaming Dark was probably ushered in due to the destruction of Cyra and the detremential consequences it had for the giants and the material world as a whole.
Similairly, Thelanis is affected by the stories mortals tell, and their archfey are actively manipulating events on the material plane to make sure that they stay in power, grow in power, or that a rival looses power (ExE 195). Furthermore, the Feyspires of the Moonlit Valey manifest regulairly in specific manifest zones of the material plane, during the coterminous phases of Rhaan, leading to even greater interaction with the material. Thanks to the mourning, some or all of these might even be (If one wants it to be so in their eberron) permanently manifested on the material plane (ExE 196). Additionally, some of the Feyspires are even linked to other planes, like Shae Tirias Tolai to Dolurrh (https://keith-baker.com/silver-and-bone/) or Taer Lian Doresh (ExE 154).
Dolurrh is logically affected and based on the continued precept of mortals dying. The mortal soul passes to dolurrh after death and is proccessed through the planes natural effects (ExE 156-157), and later on through the more precise processing by the librarian, the smith of souls or the queen of the dead herself (ExE 157-158). All in all, every event that transpires in dolurrh is connected to the precept of mortal death, which makes sense, as it is its purpose to serve as the end of the journey, or the beginning of the next (ExE 156). While something like this has probably never happened before, if by some means no mortals would die anymore, dolurrh's existence would essentially be defunct. This is more of a strong hypothetical, yes, but my point for these planes stands.
Drastic changes on the material will change cause drastic changes to the three aformentioned planes. Mortal dreams and feelings change the theme of Dal Quor's heart, mortal stories and tales change the themes of thelanis and mortal soul processing is essentially the entire 'economy' of dolurrh, so to speak.
For the final part of this overview, I want to talk about Xoriat. In Exploring Eberron (Exe 199) it was established that the Xoriat exists out of time and that the daelkyr can reshape the material plane as they see fit, by manipulating its position in the maze of reality. This happened at least once and possibly even numerous times. When the prime material plane is changed and the former incarnation discarded, it does not simply change the present, but also the past and the future. Thus Xoriat's influence is not simply limited to time-travel, but even the alteration of the timeline itself into an alternate reality. When this happens or happened, some things remain(ed) unchanged. The progenitors, as the creators of the multiverse, always remain, but their battle might have transpired differently. As described in the Keith's blog post on Gem Dragons (https://keith-baker.com/dm-gem-dragons/), in 'Githeberron' Khyber might not have destroyed Siberys' body, but instead his mind, giving an explanation for the source of psionics as opposed to arcane magic. This was called the 'Dream of Siberys', as opposed to the Blood of Siberys, and the Gem dragons are the children of eberron infused with the Dream of Siberys. In the comments, Keith even suggest that in Githeberron or another alternate reality, Khyber was broken apart by Eberron and encased a wounded Siberys to stabilize him, creating a Ring of Khyber and a underworld of siberys instead. In the same comment, he states that the maze of reality can only affect the material plane and the outer planes remain unchanged, supporting the concept that they were constructed as the building blocks of material reality.
With these points in mind, I have been wondering about the impacts and consequences of the following hypothetical a canon events. I would like to hear your opinions on these.
Age of Demons: During the Age of Demons, which supposedly lasted since almost the beginning of time and for eons, the godlike overlords reigned over the mortal children of eberron and the celestial children of siberys uncontested. There was nothing but suffering, misery, agony, fear, it was literal hell on eberron for most of the world's history. - During that time, how would this have affected the planes? As far as I know, this was never adressed before in any capacity. - Did the perpetual suffering of mortals lead to a permanent nightmare dream of the age on Dal Quor? - Did this constant of mortal suffering lead to the layers of Thelanis being mainly defined by sorrowful and dark stories, for misery is all mortal-kind knew during this age? - Did Feyspires manifest on eberron during that time, and if so, what relationship could the fiends have had with the fey?
Reality-Rewrite by the Daelky: As mentioned in the overview, the daelkyr have, at least once, fully rewritten the entire history of the material world. While I already pointed out that most planes are self-contained and either don't care or mostly don't care about the material, there are some things that are bugging me about the premise of this entire concept. - If the planes are unaffected by the meddling of the daelkyr with the material, does that mean that, for example, the infinite archive of daanvi contains the knowledge of not just the entire history of our prime material plane, but every other prime material plane that has ever existed? And if not, does that mean its archives are being rewritten everytime the prime material changes, thus meaning it is affected indirectly? - The same goes for the vault of memories of dolurrh. Are the stored memories of mortals erased and replaced by those of the dead of the new reality, or does the vault contain the memories of the dead of previous incarnations of the material plane? - Similairly to the parts about thelanis and Dal Quor during the Age of Demons, are the Dream of the Age and the stories of Thelanis rewritten to fit the themes of the newly imposed material reality, or do they stay the same? - On that note, do you think the Daelkyr have to conquer a world first to be able to reshape it with the maze of reality, or can they just do it at any time? If the former is necessary, how is it possible that a single dragon, Vvaraak, had the knowledge of how to (potentially) permanently halt the advancement of the daelkyr and prevent them from rewritting reality as we know it? It seems absurd that no one in the past incarnations of reality had that idea before, especially as Githeberron was described as a far more harmonous and united world (See Sardior https://keith-baker.com/dm-gem-dragons/), with just as powerful and knowledgable dragons. (Note: This point can probably be easily resolved by keeping the incomprehensible and enigmatic plans of the daelkyr in mind, for they may be even want to be bound and knew this would happen.) - Finally for Xoriat, if the planes are unaffected, does that mean that they may have remains of mortals or mortal meddling of past incarnations of the material in some of their layers? For example, the frost giants are living on risia, essentially preserved forever, due to the plane's properties. If that is the case, would the astral plane not be the only plane with remains of past incarnations of eberron, as described in Chronicles of Eberron (Page 114). And if the remains vanish once the material is rewritten, these planes are also indirectly affected by the meddling of the daelkyr
Destruction of Cyra and the moons in general: The destruction of the moon cyra, by the Cul'sir dominion, is a monstrous fact in itself, with immense implications. - If the moons are the anchors of the outer planes to the material, and are an essential part of the material plane itself, what would happen if they are all destroyed? Would the material plane even be able to continue to properly function, or would it only affect manifest zones and have no other effect whatsoever (as it seems to be the case with Dal Quor, and to some extent Xoriat with the Gatekeeper seals). If the later is true, why do the moons exist in the first place? What is their purpose in the fabric of the material plane (Except for being a really cool gameplay and narrative tool for interplanar shenanigans)? - Regarding the former part, do the dragons simply have the power to destroy the moons and cut of all the planes from the material forever? They teached the giants arcane magic, and while the giants likely developed the means to destroy the moon themsevles, the dragons could surely do it as well without many problems. - Another curious fact is mentioned in the Dal Quor section of Exploring Eberron (Page 159), which states that not even planeshift or astral travel can get you to Dal Quor or vice versa. The later is further elaborated on in the astral plane section of chronicles of eberron (Page 115), which states that the color pools (which allow interplanar travel between the planes and the astral plane) of Dal Quor are impossibly black and inaccessable. With these two things in mind, are the moons not evidently much more important to the multiverse as a whole than just for the material plane? Without the moons, interplanar travel by any means is impossible, for any plane. To further emathize on my former point with this, do the dragons simply have the power to destroy the fabric of the entire multiverse by blowing up the moons? That would be incredibly wild and almost absurd, and I cannot imagine that the inhabitants of the outer planes would simply not care, if their only means of interplanar travel is destroyed by the seemingly irrelevant mortals. - Finally, this also brings up a wild question regarding my penultimate part about the previous section for the daelkyr: Could one theoretically blow up Lharvion and prevent the daelkyr from ever meddling with the material plane again, and thus preventing them from altering reality? Also, if the effects of the destruction of cyra are present in the timeless astral plane, which contains countless remains of stuff from the previous incarnations of eberron, and even prevent the other planes from reaching Dal Quor, does that mean Cyra has been wiped out from all possible incarnations and alternate timelines of eberron? This hypothesis is probably the wildest one in this whole post!
Finally, I want to ask you all: What theories do you have about the planes and their interconnections? How do they interact in your eberron, if at all? What things transpired between them in your eberron and what wild events occured in your planar systems?

I got a total of six quotes (five from EnergySage and SunRun). I know SunRun gets a lot of hate around these part for overpromising and underdelivering, but in light of that, I'm curious if other companies may be doing the same.
For example, SunRun and IntegrateSun are both recommending 5.2W systems with 13 panels. SunRun wants to put nine on the house and four on my garage (requiring trenching to wire back into the main panel), but IntegrateSun says they can do them all on the house. SunRun puts the electricity needs met for this system at 89% while IntegrateSun puts it at 118%. SunRun has actually sent out a surveyor while the other companies are waiting for me to commit before they'll do their official survey, which makes me trust SunRun a bit more.
Ultimately, SunRun is around $10k more than IntegrateSun (and Cosmo Solaris is somewhere in the middle of the two, promising 122% on 11 430W panels, all on the house). IntegrateSun seems like the runaway winner, but what are the odds that they're promising more than they can deliver?
TL;DR: Given SunRun's reputation for overselling, I'm wondering if other companies are doing the same. Here are the three quotes:

Here we are again in the shit stew that is the Fallowveil trailer park. We’ve got soul eating strippers, jobs that kill us, and plenty of weirdos, both the trailer trash and the potentially paranormal variety. It’s the place where even your own computer sometimes threatens to kill you. I can’t tell if I should be worried, or annoyed that all my neighbors have such irresponsible web habits. I know it’s not me that brings in all these machine wiping viruses.
So even though I got a system error that literally said “you’re useless and you should die” I’m less interested in that. Stupid thing. Like I don’t already know I’m useless. That’s not what I’m depressed about.
Well… I suppose it's tangentially related.
I hope anyone reading will forgive me. I’m feeling the sting of rejection right now. It was really stupid of me to ask. Especially now. Nobody here really likes me. They’ve only been nice to me as a courtesy because I was almost involved in a god damn shootout. And my idiot self decided that was the perfect time to push one of my few friends all the way away. Never ask your friends out on dates. It ruins everything.
So there’s this woman. I’ve talked about her in the past. Trista Ramone. She lives in the far back corner of the trailer park. You can instantly tell which unit is hers because she’s covered every square inch of the property with gardens and a rabbit hutch. The place usually has beads and colorful flags hanging on its walls as well. She’s kind of a right winger’s nightmare. I know some of those flags represent various lgbtq plus communities.
She and I have been friendly in the past. We’re both night shift workers. We crossed paths quite a bit going to and from work so we struck up a friendship over the years.
Let’s just ripped the band aid off. Recently I’ve started thinking I had… stronger feelings for Trista. I got stupid and decided to tell her about them. She wasn’t interested. I get why. We have very different lifestyles. I like meat, and she thinks the meat industry is murder. I’m not willing to give up meat, and she’s not willing to give up her beliefs. It's as simple as that. Now things are incredibly awkward with one of my closer friends and I’m still spiraling into self loathing, where I belong.
She swore up and down that she absolutely still wants to be friends with me, but I’m not sure I believe her. The look she gave me when I told her I’d like to ask her out. It looked like sadness, but a small part of me is convinced it was pity, or worse, disgust and loathing, and that small part gave me ever shuts the fuck up. But anyway, she gave me permission to write about her.
She is one of the creepy fixtures of our little neighborhood after all. She told me to make her seem as insane and scary as I possibly could and that she should get to kill me at the end. She also handed me a few of her high school yearbooks, advised me to chat with another neighbor of ours who she went to school with, and to only use creepy rumors for the rest.
Part of me is really willing to describe her as awful, but that’s just my anger. I don’t like that part of me. Trista’s not a bad person at all. She’s just weird and she doesn’t want to date me. God damn it, Petunia’s right. I need therapy.
So, I’ve told the story of the sexy, scary lady living in a polycule here in the trailer park. I think she’s got a bigger heart than she lets on. I’ve talked about the stories surrounding the Schroeder Slaughterhouse. Now let’s talk about the hippy everyone thinks is a vampire.
She’s a taller woman, maybe five-seven or eight, and she’s skinny. Her typical wardrobe is… interesting. Try to imagine your typical new-age hippy/stoner girl, wearing colorful sarongs, crop-tops, beanies, baggy sweaters, T-shirts with colorful sayings on them, sandals, boots woven from some sort of exotic plant, beaded necklaces, bracelets, a few too many piercings and some intricate tattoos. Can you picture that kind of person? Well, take that and dip them in “goth” dye. Everything is black, and contrasts to her pale white complexion, her eyes are this unusual violet color, and then make the woman wearing all that seem kind of depressed about something. That’s the look Trista has going on. Like if Wednesday Addams was forced to dress up for Hippy Day.
I’ve heard people call her an emo vampire, but as a former emo myself, she doesn’t fill out all the criteria. She doesn’t typically wear any super tight pants or cake on the eyeshadow. I guess she’s just Trista. It might sound weird (and it is) but the whole thing suits her. Her style, tattoos, and complexion all create this image of skinny vampiric waif with a mysterious past and a freaky sarcastic attitude and I found the whole thing… kinda hot.
Trista keeps to herself. She’s made the most out of her little corner of the trailer park. Like I said, she decked out her unit with garden squares, and a Rabbit pen. No idea why she’s allowed to do that. A lot of these places don’t allow pets. I heard she was also trying to put in a beehive too, but her neighbors are fighting her on that one. Our park is a bit too condensed for bees. She has a permit to grow hemp, but of course it’s not for recreational use. She treats it and uses it to weave things like handbags, clothes, and other stuff. There’s a consignment store in town that sells all kinds of things Trista has crafted herself. So she’s handy and self sufficient too. She paints, she carves wood, she weaves, she crochets, she sews, and who knows what else. She’s so good at her little crafts that apparently she’s able to support herself just selling them and working part time at the Moonlight Inn outside of town.
She’s also relatively friendly. I almost feel bad calling her weird, but here’s the thing, I’ve seen some REALLY weird shit. People jokingly call her a vampire, and she seems to embrace that, but part of me seriously wonders. The big clue is, like I mentioned, she’s completely nocturnal. She’s always asleep during the day, and every blind and curtain is drawn tight. The one time she came out during the day, she had on this full body suit with a helmet with UV glass and everything. Even then, she only showed up to give Petunia a hug, before leaving again.
That was the first time I saw Trista, come to think of it. I was kind of intrigued. It was kind of hard not to be when someone shows up to a community cookout in a freaking astronaut suit. I approached Petunia after she left.
“Who the heck was that?” I wondered.
“MASON! I’m so glad you could make it! You’ve been here about three months now! How’d that job interview go?”
“Oh. It went well. I might be doing janitorial work soon.”
“Night shift?”
“Maybe. I’m not sure.”
“If it’s the night shift, you’ll definitely meet the person who just left. That’s Trista. She’s the girl with the rabbits in the far corner. Poor girl. She’s got a really bad skin condition. Can’t let sunlight touch her.”
“Oh. Is she like… albino or something?”
“No, she’s got pigment. I don’t remember what the condition is called. I guess it started in high school or something. You’d have to ask her. And hey! If you work the night shift, you’ll probably get to chat with her!”
Petunia wasn’t wrong. I started working as a nighttime janitor for a number of local businesses. That was when I first started noticing the pale goth hippy. She rides around on a moped, with her dark hair and her sarong barely billowing behind her. I couldn’t see her face through the helmet, but she waved to me as she passed by.
The next time I saw her, she was jogging, but here’s where it gets weird. When I first stepped outside, all I saw was a blur. It actually startled me as I whipped toward it, but then there was this skinny tattooed pixie, somehow still looking like a stonehippy/vampire in jogging gear. I swear she was moving inhumanly fast when I first noticed her. That was when we introduced ourselves. She actually jogged over to say hello.
“Hey! You’re the new guy right?”
“Oh, uh, yeah. My name’s Mason!” I reached out to shake the pretty girl’s hand, like an awkward loser. She smirked and shook my hand. Her grip was weirdly strong, and a bit cold.
“I’m Trista. I’m the weirdo in the back with the rabbits.”
“Trista… oh, are you the one who has a thing with sunlight? I think Petunia mentioned you.”
“Yup! That’s me. Xerodoma pigmentosum. Sunlight hurts. I hate that it hurts.” She lamented.
“That’s gotta be rough,” I said sympathetically.
“You get used to it. You work at night?”
“Yeah. Works better for me.”
“I get that.”
And so on and so on. She’s pretty cool, with a bit of hilarious snark in there. And she secretly procured recreational weed she was willing to share. I kept working the night shift just hoping for another chance to talk to her and possibly buy a joint. Eventually she invited me over to share a joint. The inside of her place was actually pretty sparse and spartan compared to the outside. Though she was a fan of hanging beads. Most of the main room was taken up by her various crafting projects and supplies. Hemp weaves, some paintings, and even a wood carving of what I think was a rabbit, but it wasn’t anywhere near complete.
I followed her to her kitchen where she reached into the very back of her pantry and pulled out a shoebox. Inside was her stash, but there was something else which I found very strange. It was a pack of syringes and a thing I assume is to sterilize syringes. I know what you’re thinking, and that was my first thought too. It’s a poor neighborhood, the woman already smokes weed illegally, it’s not that big a shock that maybe she was involved in other drugs too. I decided not to ask at the time. We shared our joint, and we laughed, a lot. She made fun of me for being a lightweight, while I got completely hypnotized staring at the patterns of a shawl she had woven.
Months went by and we got closer, but I couldn’t forget those syringes. After a while I got worried. I’ve seen what heroine does to people. So the next time I went over to smoke and eat (vegan) pizza with her, I asked.
“Trista? Are you using anything other than weed?”
“Drugs?”
“Yeah.”
“No. Why?”
“You can tell me if you are.”
“Mason, sweetheart, I’m a stoner. I don’t fuck around with anything else and I never have.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Okay. Can I ask what that set of syringes are for?”
“Oh. In my stash box? Those are… part of my condition. I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Oh. Is it like… embarrassing?”
“Yeah. So don’t ask. Can we just watch a movie?”
So I don't ask anymore. But I still have no idea what she does with those syringes. Based on what I read about that Xerodoma Pigmentosum thing she says she has, I have no clue what she would need to inject herself with.
Another time she asked me to check on her rabbits for her during the day, as her usual “sitter” had something come up. All I had to do was chop up the lettuce and carrots she left out. As I was enjoying the adorable fluffy faces, one of Trista’s neighbors, a woman named Bridget, poked her head outside her door.
“Hey. Do you know what Trista injects those rabbits with?”
“I… what?”
“I’ve seen her use syringes on those rabbits. She said she was just giving them medicine, but I swear I see her inject them every week.”
“I… I wouldn't know. She just asked me to feed them.”
“I love Trista, but that always seemed so weird. She has to know vaccines are a hoax!” I tuned the woman out after that one. My mind was on that set of syringes. Why would she be using them on rabbits? These things were her pets.
I was starting to crush on her by then. But I couldn’t help feeling weirded out by that. I was actually going to confront her, but the next time I came to visit, she was literally inside the Rabbit hutch, on her back, squealing with delight as her rabbit friends nuzzled and played with her.
“Bonnibelle! That tickles! Marcy! No chewing. Finn? Watch where you’re sticking that foot! Jake? Where are you? EEEEE Lumpy! Not the neck!”
It was as silly and adorable as it sounds. She was forced to whip herself upright when two of her little friends tried to burrow under her dress. She finally stood up with a laugh, cradling a rabbit in her arms and cooing at it.
There was just no way in hell this woman was doing anything that would hurt these animals. Bridget is a paranoid antivax weirdo anyway. If Trista was using syringes on the rabbits, I was convinced it was only for their benefit.
So life went on. I got more and more reclusive over the years. Petunia, Trista, and my next door neighbor Fred were the only things keeping me remotely connected to the outside. And so we get to now. So let’s see. What are the stories about the weird vampire woman?
Well, there’s the fact that she jogs at night, solo, in a poor neighborhood. Petunia keeps the shitty people contained and behaving for the most part, but I still wouldn’t exactly call it safe, especially for a young skinny woman. But she does it without a care in the world.
There’s one strange event that some people like to connect to this. I never knew this guy, but from what I hear he was a total weirdo who leered at anyone even remotely female. And this is despite the fact he was married. His name was Josh.
I remember him a bit. He’s the guy that Petunia chased away from one of her barbecues. Supposedly he was heard saying inappropriate things to the groups of ten year old girls that were playing in the bounce house Petunia rented. Telling them how pretty they were. Trying to coax them to take off their jackets. Police reports were filed but ultimately nothing could be proven. The guy's wife, Carole, always defends him for some reason.
But anyway, I remember hanging out with Trista one night a little over a year ago. She hadn’t gone jogging like she normally did. I asked her what was up with that.
“That weirdo, Josh has started catcalling when I pass his place. It weirds me out.”
“There aren’t other people who do that at night? I’m still shocked you jog alone.”
“Not like this. I can flip off a wolf whistler. But this guy… he keeps trying to get me to stop and talk to him, and when I don’t? He shouts about my ass. I’m gonna have to talk to Petunia about that shithead, if anybody can reign him in, it’s her.”
I’m gonna guess she never got a chance. Two days later, the whole town was awoken by sirens. I was getting ready for my shift when I heard them. I walked down the road a bit to see if I could figure out what was going on. The cops were heading toward the other side of the park, so I couldn’t see much. But I did notice Trista, in her jogging gear, skulking in the shadows. I wondered if she was in trouble. But before I could call out to her, she sprinted straight to Petunia's house and banged on the door. Petunia welcomed her inside, and that was all I saw. I still wasn’t sure what was going on, so I just shrugged and headed to work, figuring I’d text Trista later.
I didn’t learn till later that Josh was found dead. He was lying prone, face down, partly hidden by bushes at the edge of the park. His neck was cut open. He’d bled out rapidly. He had a knife in his hand, and officially it’s believed he fell on it and accidentally killed himself. There was a cocktail of drugs in his system so most people accept that explanation. But others swear they saw Trista out for her jog around the same time Josh would have been bleeding to death. She got questioned, and she swore she didn’t see anything. Without evidence, there was nothing else that could be proven.
Trista’s a friend. I know that guy was being creepy to her. So I’m happy to take her word for what happened, even if my seeing her going to Petunia’s pokes a bit of a hole in that. I can’t be sure it was Trista though. So I’m not saying a word. But if a certain creep attacked a certain lady who is rumored to be a vampire, it’s not that surprising to me that he ended up dead after bleeding to death. I’m not all that broken up about it.
I’m not the one spreading that story. Josh’s wife was the one who started the rumor. So now some people are even more convinced that the weird nocturnal hippy chick is secretly a vampire.
She’s no killer. No matter what they say. She would only have defended herself.
So that’s all the stories I’ve heard that have any credibility to them. There’s more people who swear she and Petunia perform weird rituals, and people who saw her moving “inhumanly fast” and such.
But now I have to share what I found in the yearbooks Trista gave me. I wasn’t really expecting much. I checked her senior yearbook out first. She looks about the same. Pale, goth, hippy, and sort of sad. She kind of looks even sadder in these photos if I’m being honest, but that’s high school for you. She graduated in the top half of her class, no sports or extracurriculars. I’m left wondering how she managed to go to school at the time of sun was so bad for her. I’ll have to ask her about that. So nothing really new there.
It was the yearbook from her junior year where things got really interesting. I was in shock when I found her. Trista is somehow impossible to miss, but unrecognizable all at once. She’s full of color! She wore more typical tie dye hippy attire. Bright vibrant pinks, reds, blues, greens, and yellows, in every photo, and holy shit was she busy. Captain of the soccer team, first chair flutist, president of the “green living” club and the “vegan alliance,” top ten in her class, it was all incredible. I think the main reason I didn’t recognize her was her skin. It was tan, as though she were out in the sun a lot. Furthermore there were photos of her playing sports and standing outside in bright sunlight.
It was like her disease wasn’t there, which confused me. She told me it was something called Xeroderma Pigmentosa. But that’s a genetic condition. She would have had that from birth.
I sent her a text, wondering about this.
- Hey! Just went through your yearbooks. What happened? You had color? Did you discover Linkin Park?
- My disease happened. Right at the end of Jr. year. That’s why I wasn’t there for the final class photo.
- But your disease is genetic… isn’t it?
- I guess it was dormant in me.
- So it just… happened?
- Pretty much.
- I’m sorry.
- I got over it. Mostly. It was hard. My parents were both hardcore vegan naturalists and we lived in a place that was all natural light and such, so I had to live in a shed for a bit while they built a space for me. But in my family? We kinda lean into whatever life throws at us. It took months of depression to come to terms with it. All of a sudden I couldn’t be out in the sun, and I had new dietary needs that absolutely required non-vegan sources. So I leaned into it. I was a vampire now. I can dig dark colors and “vampire style.” I could make it my own by avoiding leather. And I’d be as vegan as I possibly could.
- You’re kind of awesome.
- Damn straight. So I learned to love the night too and now, here I am.
I gained new respect for her after that. Frankly I feel kinda shitty about making fun of her for being a vampire. There might not be anything paranormally weird about her after all.
She sent me one more text telling me I should talk to a guy named Frankie. She’d gone to school with him. He’s a decent enough guy. Works in the Bicounty mall in town.
I had to wait a day or two for another of Petunia’s get togethers to talk to him.
“Hey!” I said awkwardly as I tried to figure out how to strike up conversation with someone I haven’t really spoken to in a long time. “Frankie, right?”
“Oh. Yeah. Been a while. How are you Mason? You okay after that whole thing at Red Nights?”
“I’m trying to be. Look, I’ll cut to the chase. You went to school with Trista Ramone, right?”
“Ol’ Boho Ramone? Yeah. We were sort of friendly. But I was a jerk to vegans back then. Why do you ask?”
“I’ve been hanging out with her. She’s being all mysterious.” He chuckled at that. “She said I should talk to you to learn more about her… weirdness? Everyone thinks she’s a vampire now.”
“She’s totally a vampire. I have no idea what else to call her?”
“Why do you say that?”
“What did she tell you about school?”
“Nothing. She just showed me two yearbooks. Between Junior and Senior year she went from colorful club president, to lonely vampire, because of her disease.”
“Nah man. I don’t want to talk bad about her. But she was kind of a bitch, junior year. She wasn’t just a colorful vegan. She was one of those “holier than thou” types who scoffed and talked down to anyone who dared to eat meat. Her “hippy” thing meant she never hung out with the popular girls but still, she acted like she owned the place at times. I was friends with this weird guy named Steven Jones. He was just kind of a weirdo. Skulking around in the background, you know? He HATED Trista. For a while I totally understood. I thought she was kinda stuck up. But this guy was like… irrationally enraged by that girl’s existence. I guess he tried to ask her out when he was a freshman and she politely declined. But he took that shit personally.”
“Huh. So like… why’s that matter?”
“Because Steven kept saying to anyone who gave him a second look, that he was gonna ‘ruin’ her. Never elaborated. But then the last month of school rolls around, Trista gets assaulted by an unknown assailant and a week later she’s got this new disease. Meanwhile, Steven spent a week strutting around the school looking smug, and saying ‘she got what she deserved.’ Then he disappears too. Teachers said he moved away.”
“She was assaulted?”
“Yeah. Someone in a face wrap tackled her while she was at one of her protests at the meat factory. The dude freaking BIT her.”
“Jesus.”
“Yeah. I was there. I came to the protest. I’ll admit I was trying to hit on Trista or one of the other girls there. But yeah. Dude dressed in all gray with a face wrap just charged in and went right for Trista. Knocked her down, bit her like a freaking zombie, then ran away before anyone could stop him. Didn’t even take his face wrap off. It was freaky, man.”
“What the actual fuck.”
“That’s what we all said. Trista needed a stitch. But while she was at the hospital, I guess she started getting more symptoms. She was out for the rest of the year. From then on, she was like she is now. Total vampire.”
“Was Steven a vampire?”
“I dunno. Probably. Little dickhead is what he is. Must have been him that attacked Trista, but nobody could prove it. Bite mark didn’t match or something. So why are you asking? You hang out with her at night right? You asking her out or something?”
“Oh. No. Just a friend.”
That was all I really learned from Frankie. It’s quite a story, and it’s full of unknowns that Trista refuses to explain. So I guess I’ll let readers be the judge. Is she a “real” vampire? Or just a weirdo? All I know is, she’s totally standing behind me right now and now I’m dead. Bleh.
I did come back to life to talk to Trista once I finished writing this. She enjoyed it. I may as well include that interaction.
I went to her place on my night off. She read my take on her and what the neighbors thought and she grinned. “Ha! I’m a total monster!” She chuckled. “So. What do YOU think, Mason? Am I a vampire?” She cocked an eye and playfully gnashes her teeth at me, making a pleasant little click.
I sighed. “No idea. You’re Trista. And… you’re my friend. I’m sorry if I made things awkward.”
She looked surprised by that. “Aw. Thanks Mason. You’re my friend too. It’s okay. I’m flattered.”
“You don’t have to explain.”
“So we’re cool?”
“Absolutely not. We’re both weird shut ins.” She laughed. It was good to hear her laugh. It made me happy.
“Yeah but I got the ‘mysterious vampire’ thing going.”
“You have dirt in your hair from rolling around with bunnies. And you’re a vegan.”
“Bite me.”
“Says the vampire.”
“You know, if I were a vampire, I could have bitten you when we both went to the slaughterhouses a few weeks ago.”
“That just makes me stupid.”
“You’re not stupid, Mason. You’re not a loser either.”
“So. You know of any other good spooky town stories that I can do next?
“Oh, sure. You ever heard the tale of Salome? She was a witch who would mash up the seeds of a Sinapis Alba plant to make a diabolical potion she’d dump on herself. They called her the ‘Witch of the Sands.’”
I’m embarrassed to admit it took me four days to realize Trista was just fucking with me. I only figured it out when I looked up Sinapis Alba and learned that mashing the seeds just makes mustard. “Salomi the sand-witch.” Well played, vampire hippy…

Here is a summary of the announced upcoming game updates for patch 7.0 (Dawntrail expansion) from today’s Live Letter (LL 81). The information below is complied mainly from the officially translated live stream of the event, as well as FFXIV Discord's translation channel coverage of the event. There was a fair amount of gameplay footage shown of the new content (particularly of the new/updated job actions and two brand new jobs), but I only pulled a few points of relevant information from it, rather than summarizing it all. But, as usual, please let me know if I missed anything major!

Note: Today’s presentation was not meant to be a detailed breakdown of ALL planned job changes and additions, just a basic overview of some of the noteworthy adjustments. Full gameplay will be previewed during the current media tour, with complete details on all of the job adjustments, potency changes, etc. to come with the patch notes for 7.0 after launch maintenance begins.
Action Change Settings - To address button bloat, certain actions will be replaced by their follow-up counterparts on the same button upon use, instead of the follow-up actions being on a separate button. However, for those who would prefer it the old way, this setting allows you to choose whether or not those changing actions will be replaced by their follow-up counterparts.
Adjustments to Tanks
  • Rampart and job-specific 30% damage reduction abilities will be upgraded in the 90s level range
  • Reprisal’s duration will be increased to 15 seconds in the 90s level range
Paladin
  • The second and third executions of Atonement have been changed to new actions with separate animations (the Atonement button will change to these actions automatically, so button presses will remain the same)
  • A new action that can be executed after Blade of Valor will be added
  • In order to execute Goring Blade, you will need to have Fight or Flight activated
Warrior
  • A new action, which can be executed after three executions of Fell Cleave or Decimate while Inner Release is active, will be added
  • A new action that can be executed after Primal Rend will be added
  • Visual effects and animation of Inner Chaos will be adjusted
Dark Knight
  • To reduce the number of inputs during burst damage phases, Blood Weapon will upgrade into Delirium, and the effects of Blood Weapon will be added to Deliirium
  • A new action that can be executed after Living Shadow will be added
Gunbreaker
  • A new action that can be executed after Fated Circle (via Continuation) will be added
  • A new 3-step combo that can be executed after Bloodfest will be added (no cartridge cost)
Adjustments to Melee DPS
  • Second Wind’s potency will be increased in the 90s level range
  • Feint’s duration will be increased to 15 seconds in the 90s level range
Monk
  • Basic combo mechanics will no longer center around maintaining a buff or DoT; instead, performing actions in a certain order will increase the next action’s potency. Adjustments will be
  • Can accumulate up to a total of ten chakra while Brotherhood is active, to prevent chakra overflow
  • There will be a potency buff to Six-Sided Star if executed while you have ten chakra stacks
Dragoon
  • To reduce positional requirements for the single-target combo, the 5th combo action has been changed to a new non-directional action, Drakesbane (Fang and Claw/Wheeling Thrust will change to Drakesbane, so input execution will remain the same
  • To facilitate maximum damage output at the beginning of a battle, Life of the Dragon will be available without accumulating Dragon Gauge
  • To reduce the number of inputs during burst damage phases, certain actions will be removed or adjusted
Ninja
  • Huton’s effect has been moved to a trait and will always be active (Huton will be changed to an AoE attack which grants the effect of Hidden)
  • Actions which extend the duration of Huton’s effect will be adjusted in accordance with the above change
  • Due to these adjustments, the Windmill logo in the job gauge will be removed
Samurai
  • To simplify recast management, Tsubame-gaeshi will be changed to be executable after Meikyo Shisui
  • Hakaze, Tenka Goten, and Midare Setsugekka will be upgraded into new actions
  • Traits will be added that shorten the recast time for Hissastsu: Guren and Hissastsu: Senei
Reaper
  • Plentiful Harvest’s effect will no longer increase the Shroud Gauge by 50, and instead will allow execution of Enshroud (now can be used when gauge is at 51 or more without waste)
  • A new action that can be executed while Enshrouded will be added
  • Hells’ Ingress and Hell’s Egress will have reduced cool down when Enhanced Harpe is activated
Viper
  • Link to Viper job overview and gameplay demonstration in the livestream
  • A fast-paced job that fluidly shifts between dual-wield blades and double-bladed strikes
  • Has a similar total number of actions as other jobs, but is designed so that fewer actions need to be set on the hotbar
  • Executing actions will build a job gauge, which can then be expended in an enhanced “Awaken” phase
  • When applying buffs to yourself as well as debuffs to the enemy, certain other actions will be enhanced depending on which buffs/debuffs are active
  • In addition to close-range melee attacks, there are also some long-range attacks available should you need to fight from afar
Adjustments to Ranged Physical DPS
  • Second Wind’s healing potency will be increased in the 90s level range
  • Damage reduction of job-0specific defensive abilities will be increased to 15% in the 90s level range
Bard
  • Mage’s Ballad, Army’s Paeon, and the Wanderer’s Minuet will be changed into buffing actions which do not attack enemies
  • Pitch Perfect will be changed into an AoE attack for ease of use in encounters with multiple enemies
  • Single-target and AoE procs (Straight Shot Ready/Shadow Bite Ready) will be merged into one proc for better ease of use
Machinist
  • Barrel Stabilizer will no longer increase Heat Gauger by 50, and instead will allow execution of Hypercharge (can now be used when gauge is at 51 without waste)
  • A new trait which accumulates charges for Drill will be added
Dancer
  • A new action that can be executed after Flourish will be added
  • A new action which consumes Esprit and can be executed after Technical Finish will be added
  • Certain skills currently triggered by Standard Step may now be executed without having to go through the step actions
Adjustments to Magical Ranged DPS
  • Swiftcast’s recast will be reduced to 40 seconds in the 90s level range
  • Addle’s duration will be increased to 15 seconds in the 90s level range
Black Mage
  • Various adjustments will be made to streamline certain aspects of the job, such as restoring MP upon landing ice spells while Umbral Ice is active, instead of passively over time
  • A new action which repositions Ley Lines beneath the caster once will be added
Summoner
  • Solar Bahamut, a new summon akin to Bahamut and Phoenix, will be added (new summon rotation will be: Solar Bahamut - Bahamut - Solar Bahamut - Phoenix)
  • A new attack action that can be executed after Searing Light will be added
  • Summoner will keep Resurrection for Dawntrail, but may have it removed in 8.0
Red Mage
  • Manafication will no longer increase Black Mana and White Mana by 50, and will instead allow the execution of enchanted swordplay actions without cost (can now be executed while mana is at 51 or more without waste)
  • The AoE enchanted swordplay combo beginning with Enchanted Moulinet will now consume a total of 50 Black Mana and White Mana, similar to its single-target counterpart
  • Whenever Embolden is executed, an attack ability will be enabled
Pictomancer
  • Link to Pictomancer overview and gameplay demonstration in the livestream (I found this job much easier to understand by watching the demonstration, BTW)
  • Job actions centered around Aether Hue elemental attacks (Red = Flare, Green = Aero, Blue = Water) and Motifs (Creature, Weapon, and Landscape)
  • Aether Hue attacks build a gauge that can be expended on White elemental Holy attacks as well as Subtractive Pallette, which upgrades your other elemental attacks to higher-potency elements.
  • Creature Motif involves rendering parts of a creature (eg. a Moogle) via attacks that will eventually summon the creature for a higher-powered attack
  • Weapon Motif is a fast triple-cast combo
  • Landscape Motif is a longer-cast action that deals damage to enemy and grants buffs to self and party members
Adjustments to Healers
  • Swiftcast’s recast time will be reduced top 40 seconds in the 90s level range
White Mage
  • A new action allowing the caster to quickly move forward will be added
  • A new AoE attack, which can be executed up to 3 times after Presence of Mind, will be added
  • New trait that increases Tetragrammaton stack number will be added
Scholar
  • Seraphism, a new action which changes the caster’s appearance and enhances healing magicks, will be added
  • A new AoE attack that can be executed after Chain Stratagem will be added; it will include a DoT
  • A new trait that reduces recast time for Recitation will be added
Astrologian
  • The card system will no longer be RNG based, and will instead simultaneously draw cards with offensive, defensive, and curative effects
  • Every 60 seconds, you can draw one set of four cards (divided under Lord of Crowns or Lady of Crowns), each card having different effects, and you can use the cards in that set depending on your situational needs
  • Astrodyne will be removed with the discontinuation of astrosigns
  • New trait that increases Essential Dignity stack number will be added
Sage
  • Eukrasia will now enhance Dyskrasia II into Eukrasian Dyskrasia, an AoE attack which deals damage over time to enemies within range
  • A new party buff, which heals party members whenever the caster casts a spell, will be added (basically a ranged version of Kardion, but will only be in effect for a limited amount of time)
  • New trait that reduces the recast time of Soteria will be added
PvP Updates
  • Viper and Pictomancer will be added to PvP in 7.0
  • New PvP actions, action adjustments, and adjustments to existing PvP maps are currently planned for 7.1
  • Crystalline Conflict ranked matches will;; be in preseason between 7.0 and 7.1 (rankings will not be updated, but tiers and Crystal Credit will be affected by wins and losses
New Characters
  • Two new NPCs that will appear in the Dawntrail MSQ were discussed: Bakool Ja Ja and Koana, who will both be competing for the throne of Tural. Bakool Ja Ja is a two-headed Mamool Ja, similar to Gulool Ja Ja, and Koana is the male Miqo’te from the Dawntrail poster.
    Other Information
  • Benchmark software/graphics update: Some adjustments have been made based on feedback on the original benchmark. These include adjustments to lighting in the character creator, as well as corrections to graphical oddities in character models (addressing things like Keeper of the Moon Miqo’te teeth and Lalafell mouths/teeth). These adjustments will be incorporated into a new benchmark available for download, in addition to the game itself with Dawntrail. Information about a release date for the new benchmark will be announced later.
  • Free Fantasia: Starting in 7.0, there will be a new NPC in Ul’dah with a low level quest that can be completed for one free Fantasia per character.
  • In addition, using a Fantasia will now grant a 60 minute period during which you can make additional adjustments to your character after re-entering the game world if you are not satisfied with how the adjustments look in game. There is no limit to how many additional times you can tweak your character within this 60 minute period.
  • Fall Guys collaboration event returns from May 23rd to June 10th

2024.05.16 17:44 delusionstodilutions About how fast and which direction would I fall into the sky if the Earth's gravity suddenly didn't apply to me, but the rest of the solar system still did?

What would happen if suddenly only the Earth's gravitational field stopped applying to me, but the moon, sun, and everything else still did? Would I fall "straight up" from where I'm standing at 9.8m/s2, or at some angle pointed at the Moon, or maybe I'd skid across the ground at some constant velocity? I guess it depends on which side of the Earth I'm on with respect to the path of its orbit around the sun?
In that case lets say it happens when I'm standing at any cool place you like; equatorin front and behind the orbital path of the Earth around the sun vs the poles, sea level vs summit of Everest, Northern summewinter vs Southern, when the moon is in opposition vs conjunction with the sun, etc
I'm about 75kg if you want to put numbers to it, but I don't mind if you wanna add some muscle and just say 100kg lol

EDIT: I have run some additional testing with some rather disappointing results.
I turned on advanced environmental effects in an old save and travelled to Bondar. The local environment showed an ambient effect of EXTREME AMBIENT HEAT. The temperature was at 461 degrees, but I'm not convinced that display value is relevant to any actual mechanic.
I put on gear to give me ZERO thermal resistance, total. Then I went outside and waited. After about 8 or 9 minutes (hard to tell exactly because of load times and status checks), my protection expired and I almost immediately got heat stroke which then immediately got worse.
I went back into my ship and healed everything up. I then maxed out my thermal resistance to 85 and repeated the experiment. The beeping countdown did not change at all. In fact, after about 7 or 8 minutes, I got both severe burns and heatstroke and my protection hadn't expired.
That seemed...off, so I did it again. I got the same exact result. 85 thermal protection had NO impact on duration of suit protection, nor did it seem to reduce the consequences in terms of afflictions. If anything, I seemed more vulnerable.
Is my save bugged? I don't know. Is the environmental stuff bugged? That's possible, or maybe I am drastically misinterpreting something.
I would greatly appreciate feedback from anybody else who has actually tested the resistances, because right now it seems to be completely broken.
I did confirm that the displayed resistances seem to max out at 85. I also confirmed that the Hazard Protection mod for packs just increases all resistances by 5, regardless of the quality or type of pack.

Bethesda turned on play options that include what are presumably de-nerfed environmental effects. The system is, at best, opaque. Here is what I've determined so far...
  1. It is different from damage resistance in how it works. From what I've read online, DR works as a flat reduction in incoming damage from the various damage types with a cap at 85%. This post on the other forum breaks it down:

The algorithm doesn't seem like it would make sense when applied to suit environmental protections.
2) Speaking of numbers -- the vast majority of spacesuits have a total of 60 resistance spread across the four threats. Packs and helmets each have 30, for a total of 120 for a full suit of the same type. A few, like the Mark I and Gran-Gran's, are slightly better. Individual values for each type tend to max at 30/20/20, for a total of 70 protection from a baseline set optimized for one element. A full set of deep mining gear will provide 70 airborne resistance, for examples.
NOTE: Starborn suits have higher values than this, giving 50 resistance to everything.
Legendary effects can boost a single resistance by 25. Three legendary pieces for a set optimum for a threat could theoretically provide a resistance of 145 versus a single threat.
You can modify your pack but not your helmet or suit to enhance resistances -- the Hazard Protection enhances all of the resistances, but I'm not sure if it is fixed for all packs or varies based on type or quality of the armor. Testing would need to be done for that.
3) Anecdotally speaking based on play, environmental protection appears to be ablative. In other words, your level of protection erodes over time. Your equipment will beep repeatedly at a faster rate of speed until your protection goes away. At that point, you start taking environmental damage and run the risk of afflictions.
The afflictions you suffer depend upon the type of threat, e.g., radiation can result in radiation poisoning or burns. It seems mostly rational in that respect.
The magnitude of the threat can vary. Protection might slowly degrade, but exposure to a potent source can immediately wipe out your protection.
Protection regenerates when you are in a "safe" location. This appears to be inside any building with an airlock or your ship (or when you move out of the environment entirely, e.g., fast travelling to Jemison). The game is NOT sophisticated enough to take things like overhead cover into account. Some POIs don't have airlocks and don't provide cover from things like solar radiation even if you have a roof over your head. (Side note: equipment in Starfield MUST have self-repair functions; you would suffocate the first time you got shot in vacuum if this wasn't the case; I'm going to assume this is a standard feature for making space travel reasonably safe for the average person.)
Weather events can change the threat level. Sandstorms and precipitation can definitely increase the threat.
The actual temperature that appears on your watch doesn't seem to directly correlate to things like extreme cold warnings. The characteristics of the planet, including the need for levels in planetary habitation to settle it, does not seem to directly correlate, either. It is possible that these factors are part of it, but you won't necessarily get the same level of thermal threat on two different Deep Freeze worlds.
4) Again anecdotally, it seems that further exposure can worsen the prognosis of existing afflictions. It also seems like having an affliction can make you more vulnerable to obtaining new ones. Using medicine to improve your prognosis is wasteful if you aren't regenerating your protection, as the prognosis will quickly degrade again.
There appear to be multiple severity levels that apply stronger debuffs as well. The "severe" levels of an affliction seem to replace the lower level. Healing does not change the severity back to a lighter level -- it solely improves the prognosis. You can progress from frostbite to severe frostbite, but healing can't reverse that progression.
5) You absolutely can die from environmental damage. It is not like O2/CO2 damage that stops at 10% health. You can also get persistent damage over time effects that will prevent you from resting or fast travelling.

I have snapchat+, and when I check some people’s profiles I can see the planet feature and tell where I am on their list.
But for example, one of my friends just showed me that I am 3rd on her best friend list, but when I go to her profile it doesn’t even show the gold ring? So I’ve just been assuming up until now that I am not on her bsf list.
So I checked around with a couple of people and they seem to all have this probiem. Is it just a bug or is there a cause behind it?
I’m sort of pissed of about it because the solar system feature is the main reason as to why I’m paying for this brainrot shit lol, and turns out it doesn’t even work on everyone?

Hey, I have a 12Kw On grid solar (no Batteries) installed at home. I live in Pakistan for whom who don't there are quite a bit of Loadsheeding (regular black outs with some up to 6 hours). Before solar I had a UPS installed at home with 2 batteries installed for bare minimum things like 3-4 fans some lights internet modem. ups is still installed to function as it did before .
PROBLEM When there is a blackout mostly during a day my solar won't be any beneficial as the Electric meter stops working and my Solar inverter just sends error light. My UPS is also crapping out and I got it repaired 2-3 times but its time is near . I don't have a hybrid Solar inverter cause my dumbass was saving money at that time and got the ON grid one. I want to use my solar System as a power source for my home when the power is out . Can I do it somehow? Are batteries necessary for this cause I also feel that my batteries life is not that great as it did before

BTW I am not an engineer just someone with basic knowledge. My brother is electrical engineer but he said to ask reddit before asking him any question

The world is undergoing an energy transition that needs to improve energy security, affordability and environmental sustainability. But how do you achieve that trifecta as demand for electricity surges? Let’s dive in.
To understand what’s happening, just look at New England. From 1995 to 2005, demand for electricity grew by 21% as the region’s economy expanded and homeowners and businesses eagerly installed air conditioners. But from 2005 to 2023, demand for power from the grid actually slid 16%. Although more people were using electricity, all of that was offset by growth in energy efficiency and solar installations.
Now the pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction. According to a new study by grid operator ISO New England, demand for electricity is expected to grow by more than 17% over the next 10 years, thanks to EVs and electric heating. New England is far from alone: the same story is being repeated right across the US.
Hence the trilemma. At the centenary World Energy Congress in Rotterdam last month, global energy players discussed how to solve the problem. And in broad strokes, they decided we need to ramp up the deployment of existing solutions, embrace innovative technologies and AI and make sure the energy transition is “humanized,” which is to say communities and individuals play an active and engaged role.
In other words, distributed energy resources are going to play a big role. There’s only so much utilities can do to expand grid capacity in conventional ways. Across the country, the grid relies on about 12,000 power plants. In the coming years, that number will need to expand to include millions of small DERs, from rooftop solar panels to wind farms. Batteries will play a key role in saving their energy for later, and this includes all of the EV batteries sitting in driveways, garages and parking lots.
How will this play out? On the back end, we need flexibility markets that can help utilities manage increasingly complex power flows. This can be done through a growing number of adaptive, responsive and interconnected SaaS platforms available to power system operators.
On the front end, the transition should be as seamless and intuitive as possible: the humanized part of the equation. The energy trilemma is complicated, but it’s important to remember that for the average consumer, solving it shouldn’t be any more difficult than turning on the lights.
