🔗Killer Instinct Lumix Speedring Crossbow Scope: Improved Targeting for Hunting

https://preview.redd.it/pejxzkurea3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39d69d95ea8bc434d5a7c66d99ba114b2ae59a45
Using the Killer Instinct MSCKI-1020 Lumix Speedring 1.5 to 5 x 32 IR-E Crossbow Scope has been quite an experience. The scope has made hunting much more enjoyable for me, thanks to its amazing abilities to lock onto and track moving targets from vast distances.
One of the features that really stood out is the durability of the metal case. This thing has a real tank-like feel to it, resisting impacts and harsh weather as if it was made for it. The spring-loaded covers on the lenses also proved to be quite reliable, keeping the lenses safe and scratchless until I was ready to hunt.
The built-in Speed Ring is another aspect of the scope that has impressed me. Making adjustments for my crossbow's speed has been a breeze, and the illuminated reticle is a big help when it comes to sighting in low-light conditions. I particularly appreciate the contrast the red/blue illumination provides.
However, there was one downside that I found a little disturbing. The scope came in a condition that made it apparent that someone had used it before. I was not happy with this fact, especially considering I had paid for a brand new product.
Overall, the MSCKI-1020 Lumix Speedring 1.5 to 5 x 32 IR-E Crossbow Scope is a product that I would recommend, even with its minor fault. It certainly helped me become a better hunter, and it would do the same for anyone looking to enhance their hunting experience.

🔗Killer Instinct Lumix 4x32 Black Ir-E Crossbow Scope with LED Illumination

https://preview.redd.it/xo2p4cbsea3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dc8d4a6f97ab8271097530a44fb938137854f3f

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Killer Instinct Lumix 4x32 Ir-E Crossbow Scope. This black 1021 model was a great addition to my hunting gear, providing exceptional clarity thanks to its multicoated optics and 1-inch mono tube construction. The fast focus eyepiece is a game-changer, allowing me to quickly adjust my sight even when on the move.
One feature that stood out was the illuminated cross-hair reticle, which came in both blue and red. It was perfect for low-light situations, making it easier for me to spot my target. I appreciated the adjustment click value of 0.5 inches at 100 yards, as it gave me accurate and consistent shot adjustments.
However, there were a few downsides to this otherwise great scope. The exit pupil was smaller than I would have liked, making it a bit more challenging to see the cross-hair reticle at times. Additionally, the scope's weight was lighter than expected, which might not have been ideal for everyone.
Overall, I'm happy with my experience using the Killer Instinct Lumix 4x32 Ir-E Crossbow Scope. It's a quality product with some small drawbacks, but its pros certainly outweigh the cons. If you're in the market for a reliable crossbow scope, this one is definitely worth considering.

🔗High-Quality 25-75x70 Spotting Scope with Phone Adapter

https://preview.redd.it/r2q8k4ssea3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a26157866b902cca9c4ff439f6ece991026b11d4
In my pursuit of a new spotting scope that could enhance my wildlife viewing and target shooting experiences, I stumbled upon the SVBONY SV28 Spotting Scopes. From the moment I opened the package, I was impressed by its sleek exterior and sturdy construction.
One feature that stood out to me was its range of magnification capabilities - the SV28 allowed me to adjust the magnification according to my target distance, providing crystal clear image quality. The lens was exceptionally sharp, making it perfect for both target shooting and observing nature. Another aspect I appreciated was the ease of focus adjustment, ensuring that every detail was visible no matter the distance.
However, I have to say that the tripod that came with the unit seemed a bit lackluster compared to my usual tripod. I ended up using my own sturdier tripod, but it was still nice to have the option included in the package. Additionally, while the phone adapter was a nice addition, I felt it could have been more user-friendly.
Overall, the SVBONY SV28 Spotting Scopes exceeded my expectations, offering outstanding clarity and exceptional value for its price. Though there were a few minor quibbles, I would definitely recommend it to others in search of a reliable, affordable spotting scope for their outdoor adventures.

In the world of optics, the Athlon Optics Ares G2 UHD 20-60x85 Straight Spotting Scope has made a name for itself. It's not just for the birders spotting variances in plumage from far away or for the precision shooters who aim for targets at 1,000 yards, the scope's extra-low dispersion glass provides vivid clarity and resolution in a full-size spotting scope.
Athlon has cleverly designed it to be lightweight although strong, making it comfortable to carry and use for long periods. The aluminum alloy chassis adds to its strength without making it too heavy. With its twist-up eye-cup, it allows you to set the eyecup to the perfect eye relief for your eyes, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience.
Its ESP Dielectric Coating gives you an advantage in viewing with an image that has little or no chromatic fringe for the clearest and sharpest image. The UHD Glass in the lens helps in converging refracting colors into one focus point, producing greater contrast, sharpness, and color definition.
Reflecting over 99% of the light to your eyes, the scope brings you a clear, bright image and accurate color reproduction, thanks to the BaK4 Prisms coupled with advanced fully multi-coated lenses. It produces perfect brightness and color across the entire light spectrum, making viewing under different lighting conditions a breeze.
And when it comes to durability, the scope doesn't disappoint. It comes with an extra protective layer coating that keeps the exterior of the lens free from dirt and scratches. It's also Argon Purged and Waterproof, ensuring weatherproof performance even in harsh conditions. Purging allows for better waterproofing/fogging, making sure your scope doesn't fog up when you switch environments.
Overall, it's a joy to use this spotting scope. It's not just about viewing in high detail but also the ease it offers in using it. You won't be disappointed with its performance and features.

However, the rotating ring could have been more comfortable and easier to adjust. But overall, the Athlon Optics Talos 20-60x80 Spotting Scope is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a high-quality spotting scope at an affordable price.

It has a solid build with a waterproof and fog-proof body, perfect for the unpredictable weather conditions of nature.
One of the first things that caught my attention was its adjustable rotating ring, which allowed me to position the scope in the most comfortable angle for observation. This gave me a sense of control and comfort while I was out in the wild.
However, one aspect that could have been improved was the tripod, which felt a bit flimsy. But thankfully, I was able to replace it with a more robust one as per my preference.
Despite its minor drawbacks, the Athlon Talos Spotting Scope has been a reliable companion on my hunting expeditions. It has provided me with clear, bright images, allowing me to make accurate shots and successfully bag my targets. As someone who's enjoyed using the Barska 8x22 Waterproof Blueline Golf Scope, I can say it has been a handy tool on the golf course. With its crystal clear perspective, I've appreciated the ease of gauging distance between the ball and the pin. However, I must note that accuracy can be a bit challenging if the flagstaff is partially obstructed, often requiring some strategic alignment and calculation.

I've received compliments from fellow golf enthusiasts for the neat leatherette pouch that accompanies it. It's been a compact yet practical companion on the course, slipping easily into my golf bag.

The. 22 Magnum offers greater velocity and energy, making it ideal for hunting or long-range shooting.

Barrel Length

The 22 Scope barrel length can range from 16 inches to 26 inches. The shorter barrels offer more maneuverability, especially in tight spaces or for use in a defensive setting. Longer barrels provide increased accuracy and velocity. For hunting or target shooting, a 20-22 inches barrel is generally recommended, providing a good balance between accuracy, velocity, and maneuverability.

Action

The action of a 22 Scope can be bolt-action, semi-automatic, or pump-action. Bolt-action rifles offer a reliable, easy-to-use mechanism and are suitable for hunting or target shooting. Semi-automatic rifles provide faster follow-up shots, making them a popular choice for competitive shooting or hunting where a rapid shot sequence is desired. Pump-action rifles are also known for their reliability and quick follow-up shots, often preferred for self-defense purposes.

Other Features to Consider

  • Stock material and design
  • Sight options (such as iron sights, open sights, or scopes)
  • Trigger pull weight
  • Safety features
  • Finish and overall build quality

Maintenance and Storage

Regularly maintaining and storing your 22 Scope can extend its lifespan and ensure reliable performance. After each shooting session, clean the rifle thoroughly, checking for any damage or wear. Store the rifle in a secure, dry place away from extreme temperature or humidity fluctuations. Regular cleaning and proper storage help maintain accuracy and prevent corrosion.
The 22 Scope is a versatile and reliable choice for various shooting activities. By considering factors such as caliber, barrel length, and action, you can select the best 22 Scope for your specific needs. Always prioritize safety and accuracy, and with proper maintenance, your 22 Scope will provide reliable and enjoyable shooting experiences for years to come.

What is a 22 scope and how does it differ from other scopes?

A 22 scope is a type of rifle scope designed specifically for use with. 22 rimfire rifles. It offers a more compact and lightweight design compared to traditional scopes, making it ideal for hunters and target shooters who prefer a lighter rifle setup. Its smaller size and weight also make it a popular choice for beginners and recreational shooters.

What are the key features of a 22 scope?

  • Adjustable objective lens for focus and clarity
  • Variable or fixed magnification options
  • Rugged construction for durability and weather resistance
  • Parallax correction for accurate long-range shooting
  • Low-power options for close-range shooting and hunting

What is the best 22 scope for hunting?

The best 22 scope for hunting will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Factors to consider include the scope's magnification range, reticle type, and overall durability and weather resistance. In general, a 22 scope with variable magnification and a reliable reticle such as the Mil-Dot or Duplex is a popular choice among hunters.

What is the best 22 scope for target shooting?

When it comes to target shooting, a fixed-power 22 scope with a higher magnification range (such as 4X or 6X) can be a great choice. This allows for increased accuracy and precision at extended distances. Additionally, a scope with a mil-dot or BDC reticle can be helpful for making accurate distance calculations.

How much does a good 22 scope cost?

The cost of a 22 scope can vary depending on the brand, features, and quality of the scope. On average, a good quality 22 scope can range from $200 to $500. However, there are affordable options available for those on a budget, as well as more expensive models for serious hunters and shooters.

Can I use a 22 scope with other types of rifles?

While a 22 scope is designed for use with. 22 rimfire rifles, it can potentially be adapted for use with other rifle types by changing the mounting system or installing an appropriate adapter. However, this may not always provide the best performance or accuracy, so it is generally recommended to use a scope specifically designed for the rifle you are using.

What are the most popular brands of 22 scopes?

  • Leupold
  • Nikon
  • Vortex Optics
  • Bushnell
  • Burris

2024.05.29 05:39 NeoHyper64 Arcade1Up won't build it, so I did... Soul Calibur XL is here!

Arcade1Up won't build it, so I did... Soul Calibur XL is here!
Some of you may have seen me drop hints here and there (or a full preview on the Super Gameroom Dudes), but 4 months later, I've finally finished my biggest Arcade1Up mod project to-date:
Arcade1Up NBA Jam Shaq XL is now... Soul Calibur XL!
There's a lot that went into this cab, and I basically built the entire thing 2 or 3 times over because of all the trial-and-error as I used new tools, tried new materials, got measurements wrong, etc. It was FAR more complicated than my prior NeoGeo build, but the results are better, too. Here is where I ended up with what went into this beast.
Cabinet ($600):
  • This started life as a standard Arcade1Up NBA Jam Shaq XL cabinet. I didn't want that game, only the shell. So, I only assembled the frame of it.
Control Panel:
  • The 4-player deck was replaced with a fully custom 2-player deck of my own design. I started with a sloped, Midway-style design, but the angle wasn't comfortable for my height (I'm 6'2"), so I settled on a raised, flat design that felt much better. The whole thing is made of melamine-coated half-inch plywood, so it's super strong.
  • The entire deck slides over the factory frame, and re-uses a modified version of the Shaq XL sub-frame to provide full support from below. I also re-used the factory "shelf" with some adjustments (used spacers to make it higher, and moved the mounting poins out to the sides to allow more room for controls and wiring).
  • There's a piano hinge on the back that allows the deck to open so the joystick and button wiring can be accessed. There's also a wireless keyboard in case the PC needs to be controlled.
  • The top features an acrylic panel that was a bugger to measure and cut, but I finally got a version that's about 1/16-1/32" accurate in every dimension. It also attaches to the deck with 4 bolts, just like the Arcade1Up versions (though it's not strictly necessary, because unlike A1U plexi, I put the panel under the button surrounds like real arcades would do).
Art ($300):
  • I contacted several graphics vendors, but some never responded, and others didn't have any Shaq templates and didn't seem to want to get involved. But I'd used Escape Pod in the past with good results, and they had a Shaq template. They also had a Soul Calibur design they had used for a full-size cab. So, we collaborated, and they produced the custom art package that made this happen, including marquee with plexi, side panels, kick panel, and the entire control panel. They're great!
Monitor ($100), Mount + Bezel ($108):
  • Dell 20" 2007fpb 4:3 monitor came from eBay. It only has a DVI input for digital. Everything was de-cased, and the controls were screwed into the back. It's a great looking monitor!
  • Of course, Shaq comes with a crap 19" monitor, so the Dell is a definite upgrade, but not a 1:1 fit. So, I contacted Gus from Karv Design on Etsy, who had done work on my NeoGeo build, and he came through. He had never done a Shaq cab before, but I gave him the exact dimensions and he custom-built a monitor mount, and black acrylic bezel. I messed a few things, but his stuff was spot on! Can't recommend him highly enough!
Audio ($166):
  • Dayton Audio KAB-2150 2x150w Class D Amp ($30) and power supply ($35)
  • Visaton 3.3" speakers ($30) and grills ($11)
  • Powered subwoofer ($90)... this makes such a difference it's not even funny
  • I wanted a "stock" look with the audio and not get into making a custom panel, so I stuck with the same size speakers, but much better quality and power handling. The amplifier is admittedly overpowered for this project, but it had two, important features that were surprsingly hard to find: external controls AND a dedicated subwoofer output. This had both!
Controls ($86):
  • Industrias Lorenzo Eurostick (x2) ($34 total)
  • Happ Competition Pushbuttons (x16) ($34 total)
  • Easyget (Dragonrise) Zero Delay Encoders ($18)
  • I went through probably dozens of combinations of buttons and switches and ended up with something that has a shorter through and minimal click. I wanted a fast response. For the joysticks, I never considered anything other than ILs.
Games ($162):
  • I started with a Raspberry Pi 5, which WAS capable of running Soul Calibur I and II, but it was finnicky. The controllers would randomly disconnect, AND it has a stupid design that lacks an audio out, so I had to pickup an HDMI audio/video splitter that ended up not outputting the video signal accurately and decreased the audio out level significantly. It also added several extra wires. The Pi setup was a total PITA that cost me nearly $200 with everything it needed (board, case, cables, splitter, power supply, etc.).
  • SO... when DIY Retro Arcade started offering the pre-built Core i5 computer with "no junk" Batocera 38 build ($162), I jumped. And boy, was it worth it! The i5 is so much more capable, not to mention STABLE, and getting rid of the HDMI splitter reduced cable clutter AND improved the audio quality significantly! The Batocera build is really good, too! No junk, and lots of good stuff (yes, every Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, KI, NeoGeo, and other fighting game). This really makes the system.
Special ($152):
  • Faux Coin Door from Arcade1Up ($20)
  • Coin Door Lights from RETRO 530 ($21)
  • Isobar Surge Protector w/ Switch ($105)
  • Control Panel Hinge ($22)
  • LED Strip Light ($6)
Other Materials ($418+):
  • PVC Edge Banding ($20)
  • Melamine Edge Banding ($20)
  • Hand Roller ($9)
  • Side Edge Trimmer ($33)
  • Flush Cut Trimmers ($18)
  • Super 77 Adhesive ($12)
  • Planar Knives ($16)
  • Weatherstripping ($7)
  • L-Brackets ($12)
  • DP to DVI Cable ($12)
  • 12v Power Supply ($9)
  • Various bits, blades, screws, and tools (picked up here and there)... oh, and WOOD! Experimented with lots of MDF, melamine, and acryclic ($250+).
  • And many, many things I ended up not using (t-molding, Pi 5, arcade-spec power supply, lots of buttons, etc.)
Tools (N/A):
  • Some of these tools I had on hand, some I inherited, some I bought. But I used a lot of different stuff... table saw, radial-arm saw, jigsaw, circular saw, drill press, heat gun, iron, hand roller, T-squares, speed square, hand drill, power sander, drill driver, various clamps, X-acto knives, squeegee, various screwdrivers, hammer, tape measures, shop-vac, etc.
TOTAL COST: $2,092 (excluding most tools and everything I bought that didn't get used, or that was thrown out, etc.)

Would it have to cost this much? No. I'm not a woodworker or craftsperson, but I am a perfectionist. So, the two things combined meant everything took longer and cost more than it probably should. But I also don't think you could legitimately do this build for anything less than a grand, unless you happen to have everything you need sitting around (including a PC and monitor) and can get cheap art, etc. All told, it probably cost me at least $2,500 if I include things that didn't make it into the final product.
So, wouldn't it be better to just buy the real thing? That isn't the point. This is "built not bought" kind of thing. I wanted to see what I could do. And I wanted to prove what an XL could be... I think this did both. And I've owned a real arcade machine... tt was heavy, huge, and finnicky. Not again. And either way, good luck finding an original Soul Calibur machine. They weren't made in large numbers.
Why not just build your own? I could, but that also wasn't the point. Building from scratch is a whole other endeavor, whereas using an Arcade1Up means it "inherently" has Arcade1Up-style dimensions and will fit in with my other cabinets. I also just wanted to do something in the XL size.
Why Soul Calibur? It's a legit awesome game. It has a Metacritic score of 98, making it one of the highest scoring games of all time across all platforms and consoles. And it's easy for anyone to start playing. I have lots of fond memories playing on the Dreamcast, but with its very limited arcade exposure, there's less-than-zero chance Arcade1Up will ever make the game.
Why use the Dreamcast version instead of the arcade game? Surprisingly, Soul Calibur originally ran on Namco System 12 hardware, which was an upgrade of the Namco System 11 hardware that itself was based loosely on the original Playstation 1 hardware design. That meant the arcade version of Soul Calibur was actually worse than the Dreamcast version of the game that followed a year later. The Dreamcast version added better visuals and 3D backgrounds, along with a whole bunch of extra features. This was reported to be the first time a console game performed better than the arcade version upon which it was based.
Would you do it again? No, and also no. I proved it was possible and built the game I wanted in the way I wanted. And it plays great and looks cool. But it cost too much time and money. I learned a lot, and that was invaluable, so I recommend it on that level. Practically speaking, however, there's really no justification to do something like this again unless the market just completely fails to produce the products we want.
Anyway, thanks to anyone who made it this far. I have a lot more pics and some video, and am happy to answer any questions. I also want to thank all of the vendors who helped make this happen, as well as the kind words from PDubs and other supporters along the way.
So, now it's your turn, Arcade1Up... bring us the XLs!

From Shaq to the Legend That Will Never Die!

Yes, that's actually a light under the control deck illumuninating downward.

The edge banding on the control panel mirrors the factory A1U edge banding.

Yes, the entire control panel lifts up to access the controls!

The top panel has audio controls, lighting control, and a master power switch.

Behind the marquee is a powerful amp, upgraded speakers, and full tone controls.

Yep, those are Happ ILs (and that's a piano hinge across the back).

The full back section, complete with acoustic stuffing up top and a subwoofer down below. That's a custom shelf for the PC, too.

A look inside showing inside the control panel from the back.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!

2024.05.29 05:39 _c0nstant_ Laptop for College (US, budget 1k)

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1,000 USD • Are you open to refurbs/used? No, please. • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I prioritize battery life and performance. Overall, I want it to last me through college. • How important is weight and thinness to you? I don’t mind anything. • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Preferably 17 inches or just bigger than 13 inches. • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/ gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Games and for school work? • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I enjoy fps so I would love to play valorant, but I just want it to be able to run games in general. • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/ touchpad)? I would love it had a backlit keyboard and a touch-screen. • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel
Hello! I will be a college freshman this summer and my mother would like to get me a laptop. We are low income, so her budget is quite gracious considering this. I was trying to do more research on laptops, but I am just stuck. (The budget is 1,000, but I would love to get something that matches my criteria below this to save my mom the most.)
Here are some of my wants and needs!
Wants: -Big screen (preferably 17 inches, but I’m not picky I just dont want it to be small like 13 inches) -backlit keyboard (i love working in the dark lol) -Runs games (games such as valorant or league lol) -can handle school work as well
Needs: -Long battery life (I dont want to live by a plug) -lots of storage (as i do want this to last me through college, its going to have to hold a lot, especially if i want to have games and school work) -fast (?) (dont really know how else to say it but i just want it to be able to run games at a high fps)
Dilemma: My father has a macbook air with an m2 chip, and i was doing research on and besides the heat and the fact it cant play valorant, it seems well rounded. My main concern is things that are for windows. I’ve never had a mac, but I am concerned if my school might require something only windows has, as the mass majority have windows. Also, I really want to game, but I have an understanding that not all games can run on mac, such as valorant.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

2024.05.29 05:38 Firm-Gain7744 Good build for $2500 budget? [Discussion]

I'm looking to build a PC mostly for game dev using Unreal Engine and Maya/Blender, plus some occasional gaming wouldn't hurt. I got some recommended builds earlier and I tampered around with them a bit. I've reached a list I'm satisfied with, but I'm completely new to building a pc, so I'm not sure if everything looks clear or if any parts have a better or more cost-effective alternative that doesn't sacrifice performance. Any feedback much appreciated!

KLR story time! This is lengthy war story so TLDR months ago I posted having found something in oil screen, soon after engine blew , I replaced the motor and have just now opened the old one and have confirmed that it was a piston circlip from previous owners big bore kit
As title says, This isnt a cautionary tale so much as a war story for the sake of it and to add to the wealth of knowledge on these bikes a story of… a curious thing that happened. XD That’s to say this isn’t a thing many will ever encounter, nor something one should ever worry about, but something that might make you say “hmm… neat” 😂
That being said this is a story of how I killed the unkillable, or I guess at least gave a KLR a heart transplant after complete cardiac arrest. The interesting journey of what happened, but I do not truly know how. So maybe some more seasoned KLR surgeons can offer additional insight into the how. I had considered breaking this up into the story and just the mechanical aspects for those not interested in the story, but the motivation here is the story and so that’s the read, enjoy 😀
About 8 months ago I bought a ‘09 KLR as my first bike. I’m an over the road truck driver and have always dreamed of putting a motorcycle on my rig, and decided at a fork in my life that it was time. It had 28k miles on it, amazing shape, very few mods, all ones that I considered valuable as I would have done them myself. Crash bars, metal skid plate, panniers with very nice Givi cases, Sargent seat, etc. The curious bit was a big bore up to 683. I did not ask what mileage it had been bored at or if it was done for maintenance reasons or just performance. In retrospect I would have asked these questions but that’s out of curiosity not because I believe to any degree the seller was misleading me. I do not believe they had any idea the events that followed would conspire and I accept them as just bad luck. What did follow is in the first 3 weeks I put nearly 900 miles on it and had only encountered a single issue which was the clutch slipping too easily under heavy acceleration. As one does with a KLR I had already ordered and done a slew of other personalization so I added new clutch plates and heavier springs to the list. Job went smoothly, the old clutch plates were worn but not to any degree that alone would warrant the slipping so the weak springs were the culprit as my research had strongly suggested. But new “performance” clutch plates sounded fun so I installed them as well 😀
This is where things get interesting. As some may know, on the right side of the engine there is an oil screen, a fine metal mesh that acts as a filter to catch larger particles. Definitely something to clean if you’re ever in there, as it’ll tend to have any gasket material and other manufacturing run off in it that over time could choke oil flow. In mine I found the expected gasket gunk, suggesting it had not been cleaned since birth but frighteningly I also found 2 mysterious metal pieces that appeared to be the greater part of a metal ring. Reference the 1st photo. They had been chewed up slightly suggesting they made their way through the engine less than smoothly but not catastrophically obviously as the motor ran fine with no signs of any problems. I spent the better part of the day digging through any and every resource I could find for an answer on what this ring could be and the further I dug the more and more confident I grew in my initial suspicions that it was a piston circlip… but this just didn’t make sense, how did it get there? How was it not more destroyed? How was the engine still running with zero indication of damage? The sun was setting and I had to be on the road in the morning so after weighing all the possibilities I decided to button it back up, hope for the best, and tell myself if it was fine before it’s fine now. As the alternative was tearing apart the engine which meant going back out on the road with no bike, and no idea where to even start weeks later when I returned. Of the many theories the one I convinced myself of was that this was indeed a piston circlip but not one from the current piston but from the original one. That the mechanic that had done the big bore had either snapped it when removing the original piston and it fell down in the engine to never be fished out, or maybe it had been the reason for the bore. 2 days later I get it out for the first time since the quick 5 mile test ride after putting it back together and my theory is proven wrong, violently. About 80 miles later I was enjoying the bite of the new clutch, accelerating hard through 50mph and bam instantly the rear wheel locks up. At this point I had just under 1000 miles under my belt on two wheels, no MSF completely self taught…. Holy shiet that was a bad thing nearly gone horrible. I don’t know how I had the muscle memory at that point to instinctively grab the clutch but I did fractions of a second before I went down, hard. As I coasted to a stop on what little shoulder there was my thoughts were “holyshitholyshitholyshitholyshit….Ohhhhhhhhh it was a piston circlip” before I even stopped 😂😂😂 Sure enough I look back to a trail of oil behind me, dismount and out of the front of the block I see a very displeased connnecting rod peeking out. Well, there’s your problem. I took a gamble and initially I was feeling like I had lost, but after not getting taken out with the engine, I was pretty okay with the situation. I rolled the bike into a church parking lot a couple blocks down the road and helplessly called for ride after ride on Uber to no avail. I was states away from anyone I knew and too far from any civilization to find luck with any ride share or cab service. As it started to get dark the 6 mile hike back to my truck in Mx Boots was not a great outlook but I was out of options. Just as I had buttoned up what I could on the bike getting ready to start walking I noticed an older couple sit down on their porch enjoying what was, to anyone else, admittedly a very pleasant evening. I’m shy as hell and absolutely terrified of being imposing, especially when it’s a true need… but these boots were brand new, zero flex, damn near knee high… just from standing there I was on the fence of what would be worse, boots or socks. So I mustered up the will power to make my way to their front yard and explain that my motorcycle had broken down and that I had no way to get back to my truck to come back and get it, if they’d be willing to give me a ride I’d happily pay for the trouble. They happily obliged and were the nicest folks you could have met, asked me about my travels and wished me luck in getting it back together, wouldn’t even accept my money. They drop me off, I get my rig back over there and load up the bike. They waved me off from their porch and that was that. I know that bit doesn’t pertain to the mechanical endeavor but I wanted to share it as well as an appreciation of just how much generosity can change the outlook in things. I had bought this bike at a critical moment in my life, during a separation, unsure what direction I was going, and it by all means was my coping mechanism. Sitting there stranded, the adrenaline started to wear off and the dread and hopelessness started to develop… the 6 mile walk back, nothing by my thoughts torturing myself for the dumb decisions I made would have left me feeling defeated and lost. But instead I got to share a tiny bit of my story, that it was still chaos but I was… proud of myself for chasing after my dreams not letting it consume me. And it was because of that moment of pride that I had the fuel to tuck tail and accept my circumstance, that I had indeed known this was a possibility and that it was not the end of my journey, just a different path. I believe without that I would have easily accepted the loss and dropped the bike off at home to gather dust and that would have been the end of my motorcycling experience. But I was determined. So I spent every minute of free time I had researching what I needed to rebuild it, what it’d cost, how hard it’d be, and if it was even something I could do over the road. As I added things up it was indeed doable but it’d leave the bike out of commission at best for well over a month… and I had a fire under me to get back on it… so I started digging through marketplace, eBay, Craigslist, etc searching for doner bikes or full engines. Scrounging up every penny I had, I booked a load and made my way all the way to Kansas City where I had found a salvager with a 2009 with just 1300 miles on it that was willing to take $1300 for the whole engine if I’d help him pull it. My determination was unwavering. I showed up at his house as early as I could after my delivery, about noon. My semi truck left on the street where it clearly did not belong 😂 It was a two lane and the right lane was conveniently closed, so I moved some cones and it worked out perfectly but was still a funny sight. He gathered bikes from auctions and had them scattered around his yard, and so while he gathered some stuff he pointed me to two other KLRs to see if there was anything I wanted from them. Ended up pulling a full yoshimura exhaust from one that he tossed in for cheap. Before I had gotten there he had already stripped the most of the bike with the doner engine down so it took us a little under an hour to pull it. Yet another really positive experience that I’ll never forget, really nice older guy who genuinely enjoyed wrenching on the bike with me, not just trying to get it done and get paid. Offered me any small bits like the rubber tank picks that would easily get lost for no charge. And even gave me an old Milwaukee battery charger he had laying around as I had lost my charger at some point and my last battery died while we were working on it. We had it out by 2pm and I heaved the enormous hunk of steel into my chest high passenger floor board of my semi truck to be on my way. And by on my way I mean 7 miles away to a Walmart parking lot where I then unloaded my bike and started the transplant. I gathered my tools while waiting for a Milwaukee battery to charge, caught my breath, and started the operation around 3pm. I was definitely a bit of a spectacle. Not everyday you see someone doing an engine swap in a Walmart parking lot. The semi truck parked alongside definitely added a layer that invoked enough curiosity for people to inquire about what they were looking at as they passed by. I enjoyed the conversation and that sense of pride grew ever stronger as I worked through it. Early on in the process another rider had briefly stopped by and asked if I needed help, I declined understanding he was inquiring if it was an emergency not if I needed a wrenching buddy haha. Over the course of the next 4 hours he passed by another 2 times, giving a nod of approval at my progress. I was fired up. So excited to get it all done, feeling like I’d be too tired to do anything else but driven just to know it was ready to ride whenever I was. All and all it took about 5 hours to get done, a few stuck bolts there, a few how the hell does this come out there, and a good bit of how does one finagle this thing back in here by themselves(ps lay it on its side right side and just set the engine down into the frame, stand up and then align it) and it was done. I had done some mechanical work on cars and what not in the past but honestly changing the clutch on the previous motor was the most invasive thing I had done prior to this. But my confidence was in the clouds, and rightfully so, because while it took some convincing with the starter this stagnant motor awoke with not a cough or a sputter, but with an immediate healthy growl! My excitement was immeasurable and my little KLR, now much more aggressively singing through the Yoshimura exhaust, seemed just as excited as me. The sun had set, I was exhausted and against my recommendation they had already booked me a load picking up early the next morning. But I couldn’t not sing through the streets with joy, so a quick ride I told myself…. I was gone for hours, returning well past midnight. Ripping around Kansas City, sobbing with joy, with what felt like the loudest exhaust I’d ever heard 😂😂😂 A true menace, she was alive and god damnit I was too.
Exhaustion catching up with me I loaded my precious back on to the truck and realized I still had an entire engine to deal with. So I opened one of my side bins, at chest height just as the floor board was earlier in the day loading the new engine. If I didn’t look like a maniac riding around I certainly did trying to get that motor up and into the truck 😂 I was too happy to be upset or anything but it was just about all I could muster to get it up to that height after the day I had had. 2am and I’m screaming, crying, and laughing simultaneously as I blew out every single part of my body trying to get this absolute brick of an engine into the side bin. While I know at that point I was significantly more worn out I still find it very funny that my sheer will power made that new engine effortless to lift into the truck, but the old one was an inch shy of being impossible 😂 Over 7000 miles later and that new motor is still singing happily ❤️
So… the old motor… it rode around in my side bin for 7 months till last week I was at home and finally had the free time to unload it and crack it open. Motivated by the interest of pulling the new clutch plates and springs I had put in it that’d only have about 80 miles on them, and the curiosity of figuring out if the seemingly obvious cause for its demise was indeed due to the piston circlip… breaking? This is where any KLR surgeons may be able to chime in, if they made it this far xD Because I pulled the motor down to just about as many pieces as one could so I could take the bits that may be useful to have on the road with me and have the less likely to fail ones ready to go if I needed them at home, and all of the evidence seems to suggest that one of the circlips did indeed get ingested. The piston is definitely missing one of the circlips, and… the entire part that would house it lol. The broken pieces found in the oil screen visually match the remaining circlip, and I never found any parts of the circlip if those pieces in the oil screen were not it. So… I have full confidence the circlip did indeed end up in the oil screen. The fact that I found it was complete coincidence and had I not changed the clutch out it likely would have failed just as it did, meaning that circlip could have been there for… lord knows how long… which raises the questions, how did that happen? How long could it have feasibly been there? And was this just a ticking time bomb bound to happen without warning at any time or did maybe the stress of a more aggressive clutch bite upset it? And also just… how does this happen in the first place? Improper install or weak components? I know the kit they used is from Schnitz Racing and I was told 683 but I’ve never seen a 683 kit, only 685 so I would assume maybe that, regardless not cheap parts so, just a curiosity.
Final notes, the new engine with 27k less miles absolutely feels more powerful than the bored out one did, that’s seat of the pants and inexperienced rider mixed with intense emotions but I still to this day think it’s more peppy. Have not installed the new clutch on the new motor yet but I’m curious as hell as I don’t think I had enough experience to really appreciate the difference for the 80 miles I got to use it lol.
Oh and as a trinket to remember this entire experience and to show my KLR is on its second heart I polished up the blown piston and hung it on the tail ❤️
Thank you for coming to my TED talk, stay safe out there!

2024.05.29 05:19 throwaway3910483 Does my dream job exist?

Hi there! Been really struggling in my senior policy analyst role (came from a different sector a year and a half ago). Been reflecting on what doesn’t seem suited for me in my role:
-public speaking (project management type group facilitation, communicating with stakeholders) -writing (ND - takes a lot of energy and focus) -lots of meetings
I’m neurodivergent and realizing that these tasks are incredibly draining for me to the point where I’m unable to do anything after work except for scroll mindlessly on my phone. I’m able to mask well enough to be “performing well” according to my direct supervisor, but I am having intense anxiety. I recognize that these tasks are inherent to most policy roles, so I’m wondering if I should leave the sector altogether? I’ve talked to my boss about accommodations and they’ve been extremely supportive but I still think the tasks that are challenging for me are inherent to the role.
I really do like systems level planning and I seem to be better at roles that are more structured. Are there any policy roles (or policy adjacent) in any ministry that are: - a bit more structured (set systems and procedures in place) -doesn’t require any public speaking with external stakeholders -isn’t overly writing intensive?
I know this list seems far fetched, but really hoping to get some advice before leaving the policy sector for good.

2024.05.29 05:17 OnRedditAtWorkRN Experienced web dev team is going down a road that I don't think I agree with but I'm seemingly the only one

I work with a team of 7 frontend engineers, 1 of them being our FE architect.
TLDR: the team wants to go frameworkless and just use the web platform and I have concerns that it'll actually mean we'll end up rolling our own framework. We already ship super slowly IMO because of the tech choices and this will make the problem worse.
The longer version is, I think the team made some tech choices based on incomplete information and chose to use a new framework vs some more battle tested ones. They leaned into some patterns to optimize for performance at the trade off of complexity and debugging.
A year later those trade offs don't appear to be worth it. We have a small user base and they all have high speed connections in offices using laptops or desktops. They've explicitly said they don't have any interest in a mobile application.
Now the team wants to drop this complexity since we're not getting the ROI from it. But they want to go frameworkless. This is where I get uncomfortable. As it is today, we ship features slow. I've worked at much larger company's with questionable infrastructures and we shipped comparable features in a 3rd of the time conservatively. A lot of our lack of velocity comes from using tech that isn't as battle tested as well known frameworks like React for example.
I've seen our devs push back on stuff like creating a drop-down box with a filterable list of items... Some form of this component has existed in every shop I've worked at, this is a solved problem. It can be challenging if we roll our own especially with respect to getting accessibility right... We're constantly compromising in areas that should be relatively trivial. I can't even imagine what the designers and product manager think sometimes.
Now they want to drop the framework, roll with web platform for everything. We have a few teams now that own vertical slices of the app these days. As we scale we're looking for deployment isolation. In this new world the leading suggestion is, we can roll our own module federation. And I mean roll our own. The only talk about solving for reactivity and binding app state to the Dom is we'll use lit which I don't think fully addresses the concern.
On the team, I'm seemingly the only one who doesn't think this is a great idea. But the way I see it, we're going to end up building custom solutions for all kinds of crap (that are already solved problems) and we won't call it a framework... Cuz that's a dirty word now. Then we'll end up having to maintain this collection of custom tooling instead of shipping business value
I feel like at some point the business is going call shenanigans on us and get an overseas team at half the cost to ship faster and the quality won't even suffer much because they won't be riding the newest tech trends where we're constantly hitting pitfalls.
Any of you been through something like this and if so how did it turn out?

I just recently re-watched all these, and while it would be impossible to watch them in any time period without noticing the elements of Right Wing fantasy at work, the fantasy has only become more awkward in the 5 to 10 years. I was curious about how the politics of the films were perceived in their time, and some cursory research shows that even back then they were pretty divisive. But I think certainly after events like George Floyd's murder, the larger national dialog about misuse of police force, and the 'thin blue line' rhetoric that emerged as a reaction to it, if anything I think the films have gotten harder to watch.
Of course the first reaction you'll encounter when discussing the politics of this series is the typical "but they're just movies" type sentiment. And of course they are. But I'd argue that no one could be even halfway paying attention while watching these and fail to see the agenda. There are just too many heavy-handed clues - these might be some of the least subtle scripts ever written. There's one scene in the first film where the DA literally has to explain to Harry (a detective) how evidence works. The audience is expected to believe that Harry would be genuinely perplexed as to why his actions ruined the prosecution's case, and we're clearly meant to share his feelings that our justice system is stupid for having these protections in place. It's impossible to imagine a non-political justification for such a scene.
But what I do find interesting about the series is that there are also plenty of moments where the politics get blurry. At times it feels like the films become aware of the message they're spinning and try to talk their way out of it. The first unmistakable example in the series is probably where Harry is asked how he feels about Mexicans, after one of his co-workers (in a slur-laden line) lists all the ethnicities that Harry supposedly hates equally, to which Harry replies with a wink "especially spics." It's these moments I find the most interesting, because it becomes less clear how we're supposed to take them. The wink itself saves the scene, because it at least validates the possible interpretation that Harry isn't really a racist, that he's not the kind of guy who would use the term "spic" unironically. On the other hand, this idea of "hating everyone equally" is a concept I don't know if the film invented or has since been thoroughly co-opted by real life racists who confuse their own racism for bonafide misanthropy, or at least when it's convenient.
Suffice it to say, the series is littered with such moments, and I found myself sort of enjoying how clumsily it plays with moral ambiguity. Sometimes we veer more satisfyingly into a position where we can interpret this as character complexity on Harry's part. For example, in the second film, he comes up against a group of vigilante biker cops and we find that he's actually not as sympathetic to their methods as they (and we) might have thought. Other times we get the genuine sense that the script really is at odds with itself. The article I link to above does a pretty good job of summarizing the contradictions at work in the series, and I like the observation that the series itself seems to be uncomfortable with its own politics, because I think it was something that nagged at me during this most recent viewing but I hadn't myself put that fine of a point on it.
At this point I'll conclude by saying that I actually do enjoy these movies and Eastwood's performance. In a way I think Sudden Death is the best film of the series, although it's hard to argue with how much of a classic the first film is. While there are moments in some of them that are legit cringe-worthy for reasons already mentioned, they're solidly entertaining and I enjoy re-watching them every so often. The soundtracks are also bangers.

2024.05.29 04:56 APXH93 Crazy fast long-term multi-use laptop

Hi, I need a laptop for CAD work, engineering, programming, running local LLMs/ML, data analysis, light gaming, and audio/music production. I really want an intel i9 13-14th gen or ryzen 9 7-8000. I also would really like the body to be aluminum or some kind of metal rather than plastic. My girlfriends MacBook has got me envious. I like the MSI creator M16 HX, and ultrabookreview.com says it has a metal frame, but I cannot verify this anywhere. Size is not really important to me. I almost bought the Asus zenbook pro 14, until I learned that small laptops like that are throttled down to avoid overheating. I'd rather get my money's worth out of an i9. I'd also like to have at least an RTX 4050, and would also like switchable integrated graphics for battery use. Sorry if all of this sounds ridiculous I have never bought a serious computer before. My budget is $2,000-2,500. Thanks for your help!
Sorry, edited w/ helpful form:
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
USD $2,000 best but $2,500 OK
Are you open to refurbs/used?
No
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
  1. Performance
  2. Build quality
  3. Battery life totally not important
  4. I don't really understand laptop form factor. No idea what an ultrabook is.
How important is weight and thinness to you?
I would like a light and thin laptop but I'm totally unwilling to sacrifice performance for it.
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
FreeCAD, Fusion360, KiCAD, MATLAB, LM Studio, Reaper (music production) and for gaming literally just Halo 1 on steam. I program in python, I'm learning C and I almost exclusively use Ubuntu.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I really only play Halo 1 right now but let's face it when I get a face-melting fast laptop I'm probably going to play other games a bit too. I don't know about settings and FPS but I want a great GPU for AI stuff.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I would really like a metal body but it's not totally necessary. I would definitely buy a plastic laptop with great specs for the price. Maybe a thunderbolt 4 would be good? I'll probably get a docking station so whatever is needed for that (I just found out they exist).
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I'm basically looking for a desktop that can be easily transported. I don't care about battery life or portability. I've only ever had hand-me-down cheap crappy laptops with fried batteries so it will be amazing to me to have any battery life at all. I'm doing a lot of research so I can end up with a laptop that will last me many many years. I do some pretty nerdy stuff and constantly run into things my computer just can't handle.

2024.05.29 04:51 presek If you had to use an algorithm to choose the US WAG Olympic Team

How would you design an algorithm to choose the US WAG Olympic Team, without changing the competition events (ie there's a two-day Nationals and a two-day Trials)?
The way I see it, there are two main components. First, you have to decide what score or scores to use, and then second, what to do with those scores.
(A) What score do you use? Some options for which meets to consider and how to weight scores:
  1. Old school: US Nationals is weighted 40%, US Olympic Trials is weighted 60%, nothing else counts
  2. US MAG Set 1 under 1.3.2b: average top 3 of 4 routines across Nationals and Trials
  3. British (and some others): Top(?) score from a wider range of events, including e.g. 2023 worlds
  4. Optimistic: highest score from US Olympic Trials
  5. Washington Post "overall performance" approach: 75th percentile score from a set list of events
  6. Rewarding good pacing: average of three scores - both days of Trials and better score from Nationals
(B) What do you do with the scores once you have them? Some options:
  1. Take the highest scoring team (sum of scores ranked 1-3 on each event)
  2. Take the top 5 all arounders
  3. Take the team that maximizes the sum of scores ranked 2-4 on each event
  4. Take the team that maximizes the sum of scores ranked 3-5 on each event
  5. Take the top 3 all arounders, and then the additional pair of athletes who together make the highest all-around score (e.g. a Sacramone + Locklear pair)
  6. Require a minimum score on each even to be considered for the team (maybe like an 11.5)
  7. Look at all permutations within a certain range (e.g. 0.5) of the optimal one (however you define it) and choose the one that has the most medal contenders using pre-established score cutoffs

2024.05.29 04:50 MDGProvider Civilian performance eval when you change positions with less than 90 days remaining in rating period

Hello! I took a promotion from an Air Force civilian as a GS 11 to a DHA civilian as a GS12 with less than 90 days in the rating period. I spoke with my previous supervisor back in February and advised that per the DPMAPS guidance that my performance eval was to be completed by her as I could not be under an approved performance plan for at least 90 days in my new position. I kept following up every so often and have been asking about it and was told that it was submitted and my supervisor should be able to see it or she was awaiting signature, etc. Today she completed my eval and we signed it, but when i followed up to ask about how any awards/bonuses would work she said my name was left off of the list of individuals she had to complete evaluations for so she assumed that mine was being handed by my new supervisor and that's why mine wasn't done and it was implied that she already distributed the money she had for bonuses despite my rating being a 5.0. Has anyone successfully recieved a performance award in a year they transferred agencies? Trying to see how this is supposed to work as the guidance I have read doesn't have a while lot of information.

Pleasr Dao gave us the hint to find the GME connection.
Earlier today they posted a hint at articles.
Everyone assumed it meant the articles about the Mona receiving the wu-tang album and went to search for actual news articles.
Now a quick Google search and those who are code saavy felt a tug when seeing this tweet and looked deeper into pleasr dao's thealbum.com
They found that there was indeed 'articles' of HTML code that referenced GME.
This is what they were ACTUALLY alluding to.

2024.05.29 04:23 GrownUpGirlScout June 13th, I Can See You, Mean, and Taylor Starting a Fire in Liverpool? PART TWO-ICSY Video and Taylor's Selves Escaping and Setting Fire to her Past

June 13th, I Can See You, Mean, and Taylor Starting a Fire in Liverpool? PART TWO-ICSY Video and Taylor's Selves Escaping and Setting Fire to her Past
In part one, I discussed my theory that the music video for Mean featured characters who were representations of either Taylor herself or explorations of her personal experiences with being bullied by mean people.
With that in mind, I think the video for I Can See You is a continuation on that idea and theme, as well as a easter egg for a resolution to the story Taylor is telling.
In the I Can See You video, the first character we are able to fully see is Presley Cash. She has 3 stars drawn on her cheek, a direct connection to her character in the Mean music video, who was working as a "star" at a diner.
https://preview.redd.it/yjsytt34883d1.png?width=1469&format=png&auto=webp&s=d5601419d3926dac8433f552d975946b0f6db26c
When Presley Cash came out on stage after the premier of the video, she was wearing an outfit featuring sequin stars.
https://preview.redd.it/9gcdb8wi883d1.png?width=1201&format=png&auto=webp&s=887c26701351cb1bdc0b786fe60bc9c167f48e67
Also of note? Presley Cash's birthday is June 13!!! This past December she posted on instagram a behind the scenes "photo" (its one still image, but it has a video transition sort of filter over it, and the song playing during it is ME!) from the video shoot on Taylor's birthday saying "it’s a “blondies born on the 13th kind of thing”. The hashtags on the photo include #mastermind, #gemini, #sagittarius, #June 13, #December 13, and #twinning. Sagittarius (the archer, Taylor's sign) is a fire sign while Gemini (the twins, Presley's sign) is an air sign. Fire needs air to burn...
https://preview.redd.it/5p9ppgy5b83d1.png?width=1370&format=png&auto=webp&s=d40ef2616553e6260d17f9bfecfdc07518cde90e
Next, we are finally able to see a clear shot of Joey King as she is working on breaking into the vault.
https://preview.redd.it/f0h1xfswb83d1.png?width=1533&format=png&auto=webp&s=85e12e58dcf4a6f3c5cfab8ecb6e66a18a0b5627
She gets through the security lasers, makes it to the "Speak Now Museum" outside of the vault and is joined by Taylor Lautner, who jumps down from the ceiling.
https://preview.redd.it/3ro0j6kec83d1.png?width=1493&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc61fb6e2e59dfedcbec86c013d5f0b01bda261a
They walk through the "museum" while Taylor paces back and forth inside her vault. There are A LOT of pieces, all from the Speak Now era, but all from different contexts. There are set pieces from her Speak Now tour, there are clothes from tour, clothes from award shows, musical instruments, outfits from press and media and music videos.
King and Lautner are walking together through these artifacts and they come to the dress Joey King wears in the Mean music video. Inside the case with the dress, there is a photo of King with Swift as a child, and there's a moment where Lautner and King are acknowledging one another and acknowledging a connection to this moment from the past. In this shot, you can see that the 4 outfits prominently featured are all from the Mean music video-train track Taylor's dress, the dress she wore with her hair braided and her band, then the dress she wore when she finally performs for King at the end of the video. Buuuut, King's dress is pretty much the only outfit in the entire "museum" Taylor did not wear herself during this time period. She could have included it just as a nod to King being in the video, but then it's a little odd to me she didn't include any other costumes worn by other people in her music videos? I think it's a way of pointing out how the girl from the Mean video is a notable part of Taylor's personal history from this time.
https://preview.redd.it/hbmdv7d7e83d1.png?width=1502&format=png&auto=webp&s=73b5faf69fef103d9950b4b378a5cd99ba8e5087
There seems to be only one other outfit in the museum which was probably not worn by Taylor herself and the clearest view of it is off to the side of King's dress when we see the picture of her inside the dress display.
https://preview.redd.it/mxpz1ar1g83d1.png?width=2651&format=png&auto=webp&s=cedb448965fba077b9ee62ac7f3fb2189b31b335
I've seen some different ideas of what the outfit might be-some theories it may be the outfit the boy in the Back to December video is wearing and other theories about it being an outfit Taylor was photographed wearing during that era. But I wonder if it might actually be this outfit, the suit worn by the "bullied young boy" from the Mean music video.
https://preview.redd.it/pcltbyw2h83d1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca6707c1bd456e0860de903e6ea3483d7bcbefa1
It's VERY difficult to see clearly what that outfit is but to me it would make a lot of sense for it to be the suit the "bullied young boy" wears. One-because it would be a nod to an important character in that music video, who otherwise goes somewhat oddly unacknowledged in I Can See You. Two-It would, I think, establish more strongly the link between the "characters" from Mean being being versions of Taylor because they are the only pieces in the museum we see which Taylor did not wear (or use) herself. I think they're meant to be a stronger visual clue than just outfits which happened to be in her music video-because why would those be the ONLY other non-Taylor worn outfits featured? And why did she SPECIFICALLY want to draw us back to Mean at all in I Can See You? I did not see any outfits worn by Presley Cash in the museum, which I was surprised by because I kind of expected it. But, then I began to wonder if--the version of Taylor who is a "star" isn't stuck in this past, isn't stuck in the vault? That version of Taylor she portrayed in the Mean video-the girl whose peers try to come after her and dull her shine, who gets smarter, who goes to the city and works hard, she is already free-and that's why she is the one coordinating the escape? I dunno. But I think it was certainly an intentional choice.
So I mentioned in the last part that I find it notable and interesting that Taylor chose to cast Taylor Lautner in this video. While yes, the video is general-Speak Now-era heavy, she is still FOR SURE drawing our attention to Mean. Instead of speculating on why the original actor who played "bullied young boy" wasn't cast, I'm going to speculate on why Taylor Lautner WAS.
1-I think she wanted the roles of the original Mean "characters" and those versions of herself/that story to be featured and called back upon, and so she wanted the 4th character to be included and she wanted the 4th character to be male. I don't think that Lautner is supposed to be the "adult" version of the boy from the Mean video necessarily, but I think he's supposed to be a stand in for someone who represents a part of Taylor which was bullied and ridiculed for her relationships choices (both public and private) during that time, specifically. I also think it's a bit of a Theylor thing, making the intentional choice to cast a "part" of herself as a man-as a way of expressing herself while throwing people off the idea that she may be identifying with that particular part of the story is a very Taylor thing to do.
2-His name is Taylor and she REALLY likes to point out the "Taylor? Taylor? Taylor? Which one's the real Taylor!?" of it all, as illustrated in the meme she posted on Instagram when announcing the video. Swift, Lautner, and his wife (also named Taylor) recreated the classic Spider-Man meme where a bunch of spider men are pointing at one another, trying to figure out who is the real Spider Man. In the caption of the instagram post she writes "Tale of 3 Taylors". Hmmmmm. Which 3 Taylors is she telling the tale of? She cast someone who would specifically make the narrative of the video "Taylor rescues Taylor from vault where she is being held hostage."

3-I think Taylor Lautner is a big honking arrow pointing at the PR-meta aspects of Taylor's past. I personally don't think Taylor Lautner was a beard, but I absolutely believe he was a PR relationship. I think casting him points people back towards this and maybe gets them thinking about WHY he of everyone she's "dated" is someone with whom there's never really been any hint of animosity. And if she got along with him so well and still seems to get along with him well, why does no one ever speculate she's still singing about him being the one who got away? Casting him in this and inviting him to the stage during tour and inviting his wife to tour and being friendly with them all seems to cement him VERY firmly in the Speak Now era, as well as pre-empting possible speculation, knowing her next release is going to invite a TON of speculation.
As the music video continues King and Lautner break into the Vault where Taylor is being held. Vault Taylor's behavior throughout the video is interesting as well. She is waiting, she is anticipating, she is preparing. She isn't trying to get out. She sits on a bench lounging and looking at the walls where there are hash marks either counting up or counting down the days. She carefully uncovers her music on the wall. She listens for her rescuers. When they finally arrive, she looks relieved and happy to see them, but she doesn't seem surprised necessarily. But also, she also very obviously KNOWS them and TRUSTS them immediately. Knows and trusts them enough to rescue her. Knows and trusts them enough to follow them into gunfire.

I don't think it's completely outside the realm of possibility that it's meant to be seen as her knowing and trusting Taylor Lautner (her ex boyfriend-he is as far as it seems supposed to be playing "himself" in this video?) and Joey King. But then, who is King supposed to be? The actress who played a character in one of her music videos over ten years ago? Or that "character" now grown? Maybe she was and still is supposed to be a representation of Taylor's fans but...I dunno. It makes a lot more sense to me for it to be a moment of Taylor recognizing parts of her self or even metaphorical parts of her past, and that being the reason she trusts them. Taylor has made it VERY clear that she sees herself as always ending up alone in a battle and feeling as if she's the only one she can trust.

With Speak Now (TV) already in hand (again, as if she was ready to go, anticipating a rescue) the three run from the building while ducking bullets as the glass surrounding the artifacts of Speak Now shatter.

Presley Cash flips a switch that begins an explosion just as the three exit the building. I again think this is a subtle indication of Taylor's trust of the people involved in this heist, that she seems to know and accept that in order to escape she HAS to blow up some of the most deeply personal parts of her history. An indication that they are people she trusts COMPLETELY to get her and her music (the most important part of her past) out safely. Again, I think the only person Taylor truly trusts to pull this off is herself.

Taylor gives the building where she has been held captive one last look, and her companions yell for her to get into the van.

I believe ALL of this is connected to the upcoming 100th show on June 13 in Liverpool. I think I Can See You set up an entire premise that something is going to happen in Liverpool that is going to destroy the public image of her past. She and her music are going to escape, but all of these memories that WE recognize of HER also have to be lost in order for that to happen.
She just KEEPS using all of this burning, exploding, destructive imagery-but what has she burned down? As far as the public narrative goes, Taylor's plans to re-claim her music has not had to include a total and compete destruction of anything. It started off as a very risky move, but by the time this video was filmed I think it was clear Taylor's entire re-record project was going to be a huge success-she even uses the final shots to tease the next one, further indicating that she had a Plan with this video.
The Liverpool Film Office has a post talking about Taylor filming the video. It includes a list of locations which gives even more evidence that Taylor was very thoughtful about where she chose to film this video in particular.
  • Cunard Building -(connections to Zoe Kravitz and also a shameless plug to my own post about how I think Nancy Cunard and the modernist movement are big inspirations for TTPD)
  • Water Street-(this street is RIGHT in the middle of Canary Wharf. During Taylor's most recent beach outing with Travis she was wearing a Canary Striped swimsuit, there are also numerous other connections to bird in a cage imagery in Taylor's work, so it's interested she included Canary Wharf in a music video about escaping.)
  • Regent Road-(didn't necessarily find anything about this one?)
  • St George’s Hall-(this one I think is really funny and the thing that absolutely convinced me None of if Was Accidental-St. George is a saint who is known for slaying a dragon, lol. Here's the wiki page if you want to read more about the story. The building is currently displaying a rather large Taylor Swift sign in honor of her upcoming show)
  • Former Natwest Bank, Castle Street (also didn't really find anything for this one)
I don't think the slaying of the dragon or the blowing up of the past is going to necessarily entirely happen in Liverpool-but I think she's going to announce something. I think eventually, whatever she announces is going to be seen as the first step towards TRULY reclaiming herself and her music, as well as the moment she started the fire that's going to burn down her image as we knew it. In other words-is she about to take the first official step towards reclaiming her name and her reputation?
ANYWAY.
Thanks all for clowning around with me a bit on this. =)
Truly Taylor's burning, exploding, escaping, destroying imagery takes up a TON of space in my brain and it just keeps getting more and more intense and the countdown is getting closer and closer and yeah. I can't stop making connections!!!! And I'm very excited to see what the rest of this year brings!!!!!!

2024.05.29 04:21 NotFromAntarctica88 How to find & leave review/feedback for a stellar experience with a great CS Rep

Getting to the point first - is there a way for me to leave a very positive review or survey for a CS rep that I accidentally ignored/denied at the very end of our phone conversation? This was specifically with Bank of America Small Business if that helps at all.
I've been on the phone with 20+ CS reps at different banks this entire past week dealing with all kinds of issues. At the very end of this specific call I believe he asked if he had permission from me to email a survey about his performance, but what I assumed he was saying was what I've heard from every other bank and it was something like "after this call there will be a survey emailed to you..." etc.
Because I thought he was saying the same I just replied "Alright. Bye" and I know now for sure that I have to give permission for the survey to be sent because I have 0 history from the prior BofA calls I've had email me survey requests.
Would BofA's customer service department have a 'history list' of employees that had helped me on my account with timestamps and dates on their systems? Because I don't remember his name, he was just the last rep to help me.
I feel really bad because not only did he save me money for future transactions he seemed to know every service and product front to back. He gave great advice to questions I asked and ones that I even didn't ask. He sounded like he enjoyed his job which goes a long way when hearing people sound lifeless on the phone all the time.

2024.05.29 04:17 Mobile_Discussion105 Struggling to build a new PC

TLDR: Unsure of the balance between budget friendly and what I actually need.
>Is this a brand new build, or an upgrade to an existing build?
>Please list any existing parts or monitor(s) you have that you would like to re-use with this build.
>What will this PC be used for?
>What country will you be purchasing in?
>Do you need one or more monitors included in the budget?
>What is your preferred and maximum budget range for this build, in local currency?
>Do you need WiFi, or do you have a wired ethernet connection available?
>Do you have any specific size or noise requirements for the build?
Do you have any aesthetic preferences for color or lighting?
Any other specific requests or requirements? Examples might include a specific minimum amount of storage, or a particular CPU socket for a future upgrade path, etc.
I will follow the instructions. Thank you for your help everyone.
