2024.05.15 07:16 JLindsey502 Temple of the Dog is the perfect album and I’ll tell you exactly why!
It’s crazy how brilliant this album is. It somehow still feels underrated and has an arguement for being possibly thee best album - not just in grunge but possibly in the history of rock, or honestly all of music in general! The fact that it’s a tribute to Mother Love Bone’s Andrew Wood (vocalist and amazing piano player) - with a few former members and all of future Pearl Jam since Matt Cameron eventually became the full-time drummer - just makes it an album formed completely from the heart and full of soul. This band was literally the polar opposite of a cash grab opportunist band. Apparently the band just wanted to make music in a stress free manner with little expectations, and boy did they surpass any that may have been placed upon them. Saying that even feels like a heavy understatement!
The fact that the project’s lead vocalist was a very close friend of Wood’s in Chris Cornell - who also died tragically - makes it even more touching. Side note, but Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains was supposedly very close to Wood and obviously Cornell as well. Wood permanently left his mark on the Seattle scene a year and a half before before it even became mainstream, and if you listen closely you can tell every bands’ sound - musically and lyrically - got quite darker following his untimely passing. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
When he heard the tragic news, Cornell initially wrote two songs in the heavenly (no pun intended) Say Hello 2 Heaven - cleverly released as a single - and the unbelievably EPIC Reach Down. The former is a beautiful, bluesy song which passionately shows Cornell’s full vocal range and beautiful lyricism. Reach Down is simply put, one of the greatest and most epic songs in existence. Eleven minutes long with a guitar riff that is bone-crushing and very likely the best solo I’ve ever heard, especially when you consider McCready’s headphones flew off about halfway through the recording it - forcing him to sort of “wing it” (lol) without having a backing track to hear. Not one second of the song fails to capture one’s attention - which is nothing less than astounding considering the length of it. Cornell could’ve stopped there and had an epic dual single or even an EP considering he already had nearly 20 mins (17 minutes and 37 seconds to be exact) of material! This easily could’ve been all that was written… but then fate intervened in the best way possible!
Former Mother Love Bone rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament - primary songwriters for MLB and earlier in Green River (another legendary grunge band) - wanted to collaborate with Cornell to put themselves in position to write and play music before the time off caused them to get rusty with playing or songwriting. With this in mind, Cornell wisely enlisted the other soon-to-be Temple of the Dog musicians (Gossard, Ament, Mike McCready and Matt Cameron) and a masterpiece was about to be born!
The album’s lead single, Hunger Strike, is a brilliant piece that features a fresh and truly immaculate young voice from San Diego in the incredibly charismatic Eddie Vedder, who was actually auditioning for Gossard and Ament’s new band that you may have heard of (Pearl Jam). The story goes that Cornell - hard to believe - was having trouble hitting the lows as he wanted them to sound and Vedder simply took the mic and naturally delivered the vocals exactly as Cornell had wanted them to sound! I think it’s safe to say Vedder passed his audition with flying colors due to his incredible power, elegance and charisma (and quickly developing song-writing). The song’s drop D tuning and the darker sounding post-chorus riff give it a very proper grunge edge. Say Hello To Heaven and Hunger Strike quickly became staples of ‘90s radio stations worldwide.
Digging deeper, Pushin’ Forward Back (the third single) and Your Savior combines Mother Love Bone’s street rock approach with Pearl Jam’s more serious hard rock sound. The former features a powerful rhythm guitar riff, soaring lead riffs, Cornell’s finest vocals and the best backup vocals you could ask for from Vedder. Skipping ahead to track eight, Your Savior provides some extremely impressive (and aggressive) drumming, guitar tracks and again Vedder’s unmistakably brilliant sounding backup vocals that could not complement Cornell’s lead vocals any better! This is definitely a favorite among favorites for myself, and perfectly follows the track Wooden Jesus in my humble opinion.
Call Me a Dog and Times of Trouble are, without doubt, two of the most beautiful ballads I’ve ever heard. The former slowly builds up momentum with lovely piano playing and a quieter guitar that seemingly gets louder as the song goes on until it reaches a crescendo, as the bridge hears Cornell belting out some seriously high lead vocals and then McCready blazing through with another divine solo! Times of Trouble is a very interesting piece of music to say the least. It was actually also used for Vedder’s auditioning as well as this albums in the absolutely alluring Pearl Jam song Footsteps, which had a more stripped down approach. Times of Trouble on the other hand features the music’s absolute full potential being unlocked with a more solid production, a more eventful buildup that includes gorgeous sounding piano and even a harmonica solo for good measure. This is blues rock at its absolute finest!
Wooden Jesus continues the beautiful ballad sound, with probably my favorite bassline of the album and adding another layer to the music with a what I believe is a very prominent and majestic-sounding banjo (if not it’s an acoustic) during the second verse and Cornell just absolutely owns it vocally on this track McCready’s criminally underrated guitar solo ties it all together perfectly. Four Walled World - along with Times of Trouble - captures Chris Cornell’s bluesiest sound I’ve ever heard on record, and the extended outro allows him to get some serious wails out along with another epic McCready solo. Four Walled World is a very strong track and gives me vibes of Pearl Jam’s soon-to-heard songwriting. In particular Four Walled World sounds sort of like precursor to Pearl Jam’s Deep. I’m not sure why exactly but they remind me of each other. Both have very bluesy riffs although Deep is definitely a harder edged track (love the phaser effect on it). But listening to it now it is more bluesy than I remembered for being one of the heavier Ten tracks. The main riffs are what sound similar to me.
All Night Thing is among the best album closers I’ve ever heard, settling the album and night with a beautiful ballad that feels a bit influenced by The Doors due to the use of an organ for the main melody (courtesy of the great Rick Parasher). I love that they went this route for the closing song. It makes me want to restart the album when it finishes so amazingly like that! This album has shades of Led Zeppelin all over it and I mean that in the best way possible. Heck even Chris Cornell and Robert Plant have very similar vocals imo and virtually identical vocal range at four octaves (although I’ve heard five for both as well) with the ability to croon or wail with the best - well they are the best lol.
The album is perfect from start to finish. Everyone served their purpose immaculately. Every single note, chord, lyric / vocal on this album feels perfectly placed. From the opening tracks that Cornell penned as soon as he heard the tragic news to the full on blues rock of the middle to the end of the album. I love the Mother Love Bone flavor to many of the tracks - particularly Pushin’ Forward Back and Your Savior imo. All Night Thing is among the best album closers ever in regards to softer gentler closers, which also includes Mother Loce Bone’s Chloe DanceCrown of Thorns (Shine EP and Apple - but without Chloe Dancer for the latter for whatever silly reason as both together created the “Stairway to Heaven of gen X”). Also including a piano - again courtesy of Rick Parasher - in a few songs was absolutely poetic being that it was Wood’s instrument of choice. I just wish he could’ve been the one playing piano on a Mother Love Bone and Soundgarden collaboration where they still somehow find Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready. If this album shows us anything, it is that tragedy can often sparks a passionate flame that otherwise cannot be equaled. Mind Riot by Soundgarden is further proof in this particular case.
Also my other picks for best softer album closers - so excluding all harder songs, or this will go on forever lol - plus closing with a gentler song I’ve always preferred as it feels like the albums way of saying “goodnight” which the first of these songs I’m going to list literally does! Jane’s Addiction’s Classic Girl (Ritual de lo Habitual), Pearl Jam’s Release (Ten), Pearl Jam’s Indifference (Vs), Alice In Chains’ Over Now (Tripod), Nirvana’s Something in the Way (Nevermind), Led Zeppelin’s Tea for One (Presence), Aerosmith’s You See Me Crying (Toys In The Attic) Aerosmith’s Home Tonight (Rocks).
Thank you to those who took the time to read my review of my favorite album of all-time! Rest in Peace to the great musicians / producers and human that were Andrew “Andy” Wood, Chris Cornell and Rick Parasher (producer for Temple of the Dog’s eponymous album and Pearl Jam’s Ten). You will all live on forever through your incredible music and be forever loved! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

2024.05.13 23:57 Old_Intactivist Citizens were randomly hanged and shot: The eyewitness testimony of Alice Campbell and others
Introduction to Chapter 8 ("Heralded by Columns of Smoke: Pee Dee River to Fayetteville, North Carolina"):
"Once across the Pee Dee River, General Sherman's army marched in the direction of Fayetteville.
"Resistance from Confederate cavalry under Generals Hampton, Butler and Wheeler was steady and continuous. Wheeler attacked at Rockingham on March 7, and Hampton surprised and captured Kilpatrick's camp on March 10. But Sherman's army marched steadily on.
"General Joseph E. Johnston, with headquarters at Fayetteville, was following General Lee's first instruction, 'Concentrate all available forces.' He moved his headquarters to Raleigh and directed the assembling of his army to Smithfield.
"Eighty-four years earlier, in January of 1781, North Carolina had suffered another march by an invading army. Lord Cornwallis and his army followed almost the same route on their way to Wilmington. This army had come three thousand miles to put down 'a rebellion'; and to pursue retreating 'rebels' through a wild and thinly scattered country. His army had passed through Cross Creek, which was now called Fayetteville.
"On March 11, General Sherman and his army entered this town. 'We have swept the country well,' he reported. 'The men and animals are in fine condition.'"
--------------------------------------------
"Miss Alice Campbell was President of the Fayetteville Knitting Society when Colonel A. H. Hickenlooper, of Sherman's army, chose her home for his five-day sojourn. Bummers also visited her."
--------------------------------------------
"'Sherman, with his hordes of depraved and lawless men, came upon us like swarms of bees, bringing sorrow and desolation in their pathway. For days we had been expecting them, and our loved boys in grey had been passing through in squads, looking ragged and hungry. We gave them food and clothing, especially shoes and socks, for many of them were bare-footed. The enemy seemed to be pouring in by every road that led to our doomed little town. Our Cavalry were contending every step, firing and falling back, covering the retreat of our gallant little band, Hardee's forces, with General Wade Hampton, Butler, and others -- the scene in our town baffled description, all was consternation and dismay. In less time than I can write this, Sherman's army was in possession of our once peaceful, quiet homes. Every yard and every house was teeming with the bummers, who went into our homes -- no place was sacred; they even went into our trunks and bureau draws, stealing everything they could find; our entire premises were ransacked and plundered, so there was nothing left for us to eat, but perhaps a little meal and peas. Chickens, and in fact all poultry was shot down and taken off with all else. We all knew our silver, jewelry and all valuables would fall into their hands, so many women hid them in such places as they thought would never be found ....
''They went into homes that were beautiful, rolled elegant pianos into the yard with valuable furniture, china, cut glass, and everything that was dear to the heart, even old family portraits, and chopped them up with axes -- rolled barrels of flour and molasses into the parlors, and poured out their contents on beautiful velvet carpets, in many cases set fire to lovely homes and burned them to the ground, and even took some of our old citizens and hanged them until life was nearly extinct, to force them to tell where their money was hidden; when alas! they had none to hide. They burned our factories, and we had a number of them, also many large warehouses, filled with homespun, and dwellings, banks, stores and other buildings, so that the nights were made hideous with dense smoke and firelight in every direction. The crowning point to this terrible nightmare of destruction was the burning and battering down of our beautiful and grandly magnificent Arsenal, which was our pride, and the showplace of our town.
''On our vacant lot behind our home .... were a number of Confederate prisoners who had been captured by Sherman's army, and placed there under guard. They numbered about one hundred, I think. They were hatless and shoeless and ragged ....'
"One of General Howard's young officers chose to stay in the home of Sally Hawthorne whose father and uncle owned two large cotton mills in Fayetteville. General Howard appropriated one of her uncle's houses and his men camped in the surrounding fields and grounds."For five days, Sally, her mother who 'refused to leave her room,' her father, and a houseful of young brothers and sisters and servants were under strict orders from the officers of invasion.
"'Never will I forget,' said the little girl, Sally, whose story follows."
--------------------------------------------
"'Those last days were busy ones for General Sherman and his staff. The beautiful arsenal was destroyed and, as it happened, several private residences also caught fire and burned down, no help being given to save them, and the helpless owners rescued little, thankful to escape with their lives. Also the office of the town paper was blown up, as the editor was an especially obnoxious person in the eyes of the invading army, having waged a bitter fight against the North, and as his office was in the centre of the business part of town, more buildings were burned. (2) Then came the last day of the occupation; the troops were gathering and horses and supplies were being moved. All horses found there were taken along and many in the surrounding country were rounded up. Then there were the warehouses of cotton and rosin. The cotton was brought out, the barrels of rosin piled on them, and all set afire in the street. If houses caught, they burned, and that was all; many did. So a pall of black smoke hung over everything and the people were in a sad state of excitement and nervous exhaustion. As many houses were without a man to help or advise, the men of the family having been killed or being still in the army, the women and children were alone with the servants. The servants, with very few exceptions, proved true to their trust; they had been left to take care of the mistress and children in the master's absence, and though much excited, and sometimes frightened, they looked after the household faithfully. Of course there were some foolish and giddy young men and women who followed the army as it moved on from place to place, but they were the exception, not the rule ....'
"'No spot seemed safe from Sherman's bummers, but homes in the country or suburbs usually suffered more keenly than those in a town or city. The experiences of an unidentified woman who lived near Fayetteville were shared by many neighbors who were visited by the men from Sherman's army."

They hung up three others and one lady, merely letting them down just in time to save life, in order to make them tell where their valuables were concealed; and they whipped -- stripped and cowhided -- several good and well known citizens for the same purpose.
"There was no place, no chamber, trunk, drawer, desk, garret, closet or cellar that was private to their unholy eyes. Their rude hands spared nothing but our lives, and those they would have taken but they knew that therein they would accomplish the death of a few helpless women and children -- they would not in the least degree break or bend the spirit of our people. ''Oh,' says he, ' but we shall soon subjugate the rebellion, and you will then have no country to love.'
''Never!' I interrupted, 'never! you and your blood-handed countrymen may make the whole of this beautiful land one vast graveyard but its people will never be subjugated. Every man, woman and child of us will sleep quietly in honourable graves, but we will never live dishonourable lives .....'"

2024.05.12 20:29 Traditional-Night-48 My family home in uk is old and many accounts of supernatural experiences.
My family home is called the jolly anglers, we moved in when I was 1 year old in 1978 And parts of it goes back to medieval times as a wayside hovel, still has the original inglenook fireplaces. Was a public house/guest house for many years before we moved in, I will add a picture of it my mother has from Victorian times when I go round tomorrow, The earliest record of it that I've managed to find is in the 1841 census when William Rivett is the innkeeper. It was acquired by Steward & Patteson from Ferrier & Co. in 1884 and was still an S&P brewery pub when it served its final pint in 1952.
At some point between 1901 and 1911 the Angel changed its name to the Jolly Anglers possibly coinciding with a change in landlord. We think the poet Jessie Pope who moved to Fritton village after her marriage in 1929. Maybe referenced it in her collection of verses entitled Three Jolly Anglers, published in 1913. In the 1900’s they also added on a tearoom.
Over the years my mum could of and should of written a book about the paranormal happenings at the house that many of us experienced and have had three different paranormal investigating teams visit the house. I will take and upload pictures of historical features when I’m over there tomorrow. Dad built a indoor pool in 1988 and found many seashells deep down when it used to be linked by sea. And had a small jetty and boats used to moor up to visit it. (It’s now in the middle of the countryside) and over the years water has receded over a mile away in distance but many years ago the sea linked into The lake nearby and in pre-medieval times was largely dug then to extract peat for burning. The village where the house resides seems to have been known to our Roman heritage for ‘in a small hillock’ lying about half a mile north of the lake near to our house.
People always want to hear the paranormal side of my parents house which was part medieval wayside hovel then inn and a pub after that in Norfolk uk. so I’ve written some of the strange things that have Happened in my parents house ‘the jolly anglers’
Where do I start.. we moved into the house in 1978 and in the first six months mum was in tears and Wanted to leave again as she was scared to death of all the strange happenings, Dad was working away offshore at the time and they’d used all their money to buy the old house so knew they couldn’t just up and leave, dad wasn’t one for giving in but he also wasn’t the one living it daily. Half the time it was just mum, me as a 9month old and my older siblings 15 and 17. now they say teenage energy can cause spirits to be active in houses and it attracts them so Maybe that could’ve been why they all saw a lot when I was a baby in the house.
One night mum was in bed and I was in the cot in the same room when she woke up and heard rustling coming from the staircase which is open and goes straight into their bedroom , she then in the dim light saw a black shadow floating up the stairs and move very slowly to my cot, she was in shock and couldn’t move for a while and watched it float across the room and as the figure leaned in to my cot, mum was petrified and put the side light on in panic and the shadow just disappeared, she said the noise sounded like crinoline dresses how the material rustled as someone walked along, maybe in the Victorian era.
Another time My parents also whilst in bed heard an old honky-tonk type piano play downstairs, cigar smoke and voices several times in the first six months of living there- note they had no piano nor smoked. Dad always went down to investigate with his double barrel shot gun but everything went silent whenever he opened the door at the bottom of the stairs.
They lived with daily bangs, strange voices, knocking and footsteps all through their lives and also others myself and my siblings have heard these also on a regular basis, my brother and a friend of his whilst in the lounge one evening saw the start of what looked like a red woman’s dress coming down one set of stairs in the old area which was originally the pub.
The pub area is my parents best lounge and was once two rooms but dad knocked Them both into one big one, when it was a pub one was a smoking room and the other was the bar room which still has a bar in it but not the original one. My father purchased it from a old retired landlord of a demolished pub in Great Yarmouth. this room has a staircase each end one staircase goes into my parents bedroom, the other staircase the opposite end goes up into a small hall and off that are two bedrooms, one was my brothers And the other was my sisters, But I slept in there with her frequently. My parents built a small bedroom downstairs which was a section of the larger bathroom which decades before was called the parlour room not the bathroom, we do know from history records that one of the landlords children many years ago died in the house of tuberculosis a young girl about eight years old. My auntie used to sleep in my old small bedroom when she visited us and one evening Was petrified when she saw what looked like flickering candles moving under the doorframe, on another occasion she heard breathing which sounded raspy and a female crying. She ended up sleeping in my brothers room and refused to stay In my little bedroom after the two events.
Tins In kitchen have flown out of cupboards and dented the radiator, pictures have flown off walls and ornaments also have somehow landed other ends of rooms not just dropped downwards, small dancing white lights Have been witnessed by several people in Different areas of the house also seen by Paranormal research team. All teams have picked up Things and seen things and even been poked by a entity. Psychic mediums have come to the house and said there are many spirits including a woman who had several children and drowned herself, one Young man With a club foot who lived at the pub, and In those days would of been called a imbecile who owned a black dog Which haunts the house too, my mum later investigated documents to this claim and she saw on the 1899 census that in fact a man classed as a ‘imbecile’ was residing at the residence.
Now before the psychic talked about the woman, when I was a little girl about three, my parents tell me I had an invisible friend, apparently she was a lady in a red dress so I said, she used to push me on the swing outside and I used to talk to her and she’d play with me and my toys a lot, I said she was a nice lady that liked children. Years later a neighbour from the village was at one of our parties and was talking about the history of her family, they had lived in our village for many many years and she had been doing some family research and had recently found out that her great great grandmother had been pulled out of the lake which is near our house. she Apparently had drowned herself because twins were prevalent in her family, she had had two sets and was pregnant again, her husband had recently died And she couldn’t take it anymore, she was very poor and when they took the body from the river they didn’t have funeral homes in those days in villages, so they always laid the bodies out in a cold place.. which was normally the local pub cellar, where in fact she was laid out to be buried in our pub cellar and they held the post-mortem there too which she had documents of. which funny enough was my playroom as a child And freezer storage area. Now no one knows if she died wearing a red dress but it was sense that she loved children by the psychic so everyone thinks that that is the lady in a red dress that was my invisible friend as a child. There was an incident once where a family friends child was over with his mum and as 3 year olds do they open doors and investigate, unfortunately he opened the cellar door and fell to the bottom, now they are big concrete steps to the bottom of the cellar, My father saw him enter the seller But didn’t see him fall but when He rushed to him he was standing at the bottom of the steps not even crying, they all checked him over and said ‘are you okay? and he said ‘the lady got me’ and Pointed to an area in the cellar, Apparently gave everyone there goosebumps. Another occasion at a party there was a nonbeliever there who was joking about ghosts and what people had seen and said to a group of people ‘it’s a load of old nonsense’ the moment he said that the old heavy wooden front door creaked open and no one was there behind it, apparently he went very pale and flustered, many people witnessed that.
Also people have seen figures in the corner of their eye or movement for years and we all got used to the footsteps, taps and bumps as it is an old house and has had a lot of people walk through it, it ended up just a thing you got used to and mum didn’t leave after six months dad convinced her to stick it out and things did calm down but never completely stopped. When my grandmother died my father saw her sitting on the end of the bed looking at her daughter, When I was very ill as a child in bed I saw a man in a black suit which I thought was the doctor and I started talking to him asking where my mum was and he disappeared. One if my nieces has seen a lady sitting in a old velvet chair in one of the bedrooms, My other grandmother when she stayed over once heard what sounded like rings being dropped into the sink, as all bedrooms have a sink in, as it used to be a guest house. As a teenager I moved from my sisters old room into my brothers old room at the back of the house and one night I woke to see a very tall man in a black cape, we have no street lights in the village and I never shut my curtains as we are not overlooked, so the moonlight was coming through my window and he must’ve been 6 foot five tall as his head nearly reached the ceiling, and I could see in the light he had fair hair which was slicked back and parted at the side, but he didn’t move it was like a picture in a picture book I couldn’t help but be quite mesmerised for a few second on how clear it was, but I lost that feeling and suddenly jumped up and ran out of that room, Didn’t even bother putting a light on I woke my parents up and I burst into tears, that really shook me up. After that event i even changed the layout of my room so I wouldn’t wake up in that position again. Another time I woke and I heard loud footsteps going round the bed but strangely the footsteps were like heavy boots and they were at my Ear level not on the ground, to this day I still find that very strange and they sounded amplified too. Another time a man with scraggly long hair poked his head out from one of the sloped ceilings in my room also. Each time I’d shoot out of the room and sleep in the other bedroom for a few days Before I felt safe to go back in and sleep.
Me My Husband And our 2 year old daughter left at four in the morning once after a family wedding because my daughter was crying, my husband picked her up out of the cotbed and she pointed to a Corner near the stairs and said ‘man there’ she has autism and her speech was delayed at that age but she was psychically scared of something that night She did not settle there which was very unusual for her, it scared my husband so he said ‘we are going home now! When we got to our own home she slept peacefully, I believe a spirit was Being a nuisance to her.
One of mums best friends was spiritual and told me that I had a gift and that I saw spirits, It’s something I never wanted and it scared me every time, even in my own house grown with a daughter and husband of my own I still see ‘people’ as I call them in my own home at night and every time I see them I always think it’s an intruder before ever thinking its a spirit lol And I always ‘fight not flight, I run at them to attack and always end up running into my bedroom door lol.
My dad has been dead 15 years and when he died, he died at home in bed and the house was very active again for a while but my father built a lot of the new part of the house with his own hands so we all knew he would have a lot of energy there when he passed.
Mum Now on her own at the house and she Will be 80 in 2022 she now has Limited mobility but she is very stubborn and has no intention of leaving, it’s far too big for her to cope with but she has a Gardner and cleaner and I help her a lot with shopping, she says when she leaves this house it will be in a coffin.
My daughter is 11 and she stays with her nan ny every Friday night, it’s her routine and my mum loves having her, she stays a few days a week when it’s summer holidays and school holidays and she loves the house, but I feel she is spiritual too so can sense things but it doesn’t bother her to sleep on her own in my sisters old room next door to my mums. until about a year ago she told my mother that she had seen her grandad in mothers room where she slept on occasions and he asked her questions like ‘what does she like to do. After that she now sleeps down stairs, which is now where mother sleeps also now due to mobility.
Well That’s some of the stories anyway, there’s many more but these are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.
Other experiences…
A friend saw a bearded gentleman’s faced reflection as she passed by a mirror.
Mum saw a grotesque male face in gray similar to what Satan May look like for a split second in her Own reflection once in a mirror in the bedroom hallway.
I heard My music box draw click opened and the music started playing when I was trying to go to sleep one night as a child, I removed it from my room after that. My mother also had heard that too on occasions
I had china dolls in my room when I was a young teen and once one of their arms flopped down, got my dad to remove them and now are still in their hall way on a shelf.
One night mum felt really hot while trying to sleep she felt the heating was on too high so went to turn The heating down, the thermostat was in the lounge downstairs, as She went to to the thermostat she suddenly saw the door to lounge opening, all where asleep upstairs. She said she ran so fast up the stairs that she ran out of the top of the nightdress and ripped it, she Was shouting when she ran upstairs to my sister to grab me out of the cot and get in my brothers bedroom they then barricaded the door with his wardrobe and Didn’t sleep at all that night till morning when they all investigated together, apparently My brother complained and said ‘it’s roasting hot up here mum’ she replied ‘you will have to bloody sweat as I’m not going down till morning!
going up to bed one night she’s turning all the lights off in the lounge, she had a gold Latch she used to flip down to secure the door in lounge to the rest of the house, one night after she had done that as she walked to the stairs she suddenly heard the latch flick up and the door slowly open, another scarper up the stairs and lock the door behind her and put covers over her face.
all the bedrooms have either key locks or bolts on the inside of every Bedroom door due to travellers Visiting the pub years ago could rent a room for the night if they wanted as guests, Mum very much appreciated the locks and bolts as she did think it was mostly intruders to start with. It’s funny when you look back on it all and you think to yourself.. spirits can get through locked doors and bolted doors! but at the time it makes you feel really safe and secure that They will stay behind a locked door and funny enough most of the time They did.
Many times dad was armed with his shotgun quietly sneaky round the house after hearing bangs bumps and knocks..it’s a big house with many steps, levels, twists and turns so could take him a while to do a sweep search of the house, mum said she was always so relieved when he came back up to bed and said ‘no ones broke in’ but then both equally Perplexed on what the noise was that they heard in the first place.
Paranormal investigators along with mum and her teenage grandson witnessed all the glasses in bar which are stored upside downs start to all clink together several times.
Years later they went from a latch lock In lounge area to a battery operated alarm door lock so if it’s switched on And door opens, a alarm sounds. Which she set religiously. In middle of the night she heard the smoke alarm going off, when she went down half asleep and groggy to investigate she couldn’t smell any smoke so she got a stool and checked the smoke alarm and in her groggy sleep state she suddenly realised the noise was coming from the door which had been opened, she hastily shut door and used the old bolt and ran upstairs.
Mum was tidying behind the bar one morning after a family party we had the night before when she felt something or someone grab her shoulder, there was no one there.
There is a small American Indian doll high up on the bar (is still there) and one day my parents noticed I was playing with it as a toddler, they say there was no way possible that I would of been able to get that myself they said ‘how did you get that down from there? I apparently said ‘the lady gave me it!
So many to recall but these are some throughout the 46 years of my life.
Added..
Many lights started to flicker for over a month after his death touch lamps especially, also the solor lights outside the back door used to go in and off and we sat and watched them several times and spoke to dad sure that he was trying to Communicate with us. Many lights started to flicker for over a month after his death also the solor lights outside the back door used to go in and off we sat and watched them several times and spoke to dad .

Nobel relies on oilfield workers, community activists, a century of academic research, and a trove of never-before released industry and government documents to lay out a series of game-changing reveals into the world’s most powerful industry. Justin Nobel writes on science and environment for US magazines, investigative sites, and literary journals. His work has been published in Best American Science and Nature Writing and Best American Travel Writing. His 2020 Rolling Stone magazine story, "America’s Radioactive Secret," won an award for longform writing with the National Association of Science Writers and inspired this book. Justin has been reporting on fracking in West Virginia for seven years and one of the first people he met was Pierson Keating's mother, April Pierson-Keating, who was a West Virginia land protector and visionary grassroots activist. Justin did not know April's son Pierson, but since April's passing they have developed a bond around their shared vision to spotlight her environmental causes. Pierson is a musician and presently living in Austin, with deep musical roots in West Virginia, and will be playing music inspired by his mother. No registration needed, just show up.

2024.05.09 20:01 ImADudeDuh 20th Century Piano Men: Greatest Hits (Billy/Elton/Stevie)
Intro
No one knows when the piano was invented. We have pianos surviving as early as 1726 and records of them existing by 1700, leaving their creation sometime in the late 17th century. However, it’s hard to imagine modern music without it. It’s a very versatile instrument, showing up in music from early ragtime and jazz to modern electronic and hip-hop. In the 20th century, it was a mainstay instrument in what we consider “pop music.” During that time, three men became ubiquitous with the instrument: Billy Joel, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder. I am
ImADudeDuh and over the course of the next month, we will be determining which hit of these legends' is the best!
Billy Joel
Billy Joel is so entwined with the piano that he is known as “The Piano Man.” With his father as a pianist and starting piano lessons at 4 years old, the piano and Billy have been together for most of his life. After not graduating high school, he made the choice to pursue a music career, eventually signing to Columbia records. His first hit single for the label was “Piano Man,” a song that perfectly defines his legacy for the next 50 years. Billy became known for his lyrical storytelling, his piano playing, and for being the quintessential New Yorker. Joel has sold out Madison Square Garden 100 times, with the 100th being the subject of a recent TV special.
Records Sold: over 150 million #1 Hits: 3 Hot 100 Hits: 43 Platinum Albums: 20 Grammy Nominations: 23 Grammy Wins: 5 Specialties: heartfelt ballads, Motown-esque throwbacks, and love songs cheesier than a dish at an Italian restaurant.

- Just the Way You Are
- Vienna
- Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)

- You May Be Right
- It's Still Rock and Roll to Me

Elton John
Elton John is probably the most “relevant” artist of the three today, with him currently sitting at over 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify. From albums of duets in 1993 and 2021, and soundtracking classic films like The Lion King and Gnomeo & Juliet, Elton has lent his talents to others, which may have helped keep up his musical prestige throughout the years. He’s a very versatile performer, dabbling in genres from glam rock to blues to country. In 2023, he received all the awards necessary to earn an EGOT. Elton is most known for his extravagant style of showmanship, but don’t let the feathers fool you, he can sing some heartbreaking songs.
Records Sold: over 300 million #1 Hits: 9 Hot 100 Hits: 73 Platinum Albums: 31 Grammy Nominations: 35 Grammy Wins: 5 Specialties: doing the most on piano, doing the least on piano, and totally 100% heterosexual love songs

Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder started his career by breaking a world record. His first charting single, ‘Fingertips Pt. 2,’ got him the record for the Youngest Solo Artist to Hit #1 at 13 years old, a record that still holds today. Throughout the latter half of the 60s. Stevie cemented himself as a Motown legend. However, in the mid-1970s, Stevie started his golden era. His album run from Talking Book to Songs in the Key of Life is one of the most legendary 4 album runs in music history, a time where Stevie became the only person to win Album of the Year for 3 consecutive releases. He was known as one of the best Soul and Funk artists ever. Even after that historic period, Stevie still managed several hits and even #1s throughout the 80s, and is still one of the most beloved artists of all time.

Rate Rules
credit to whoever made this originally, these have been used for so many rates
- Listen to every song listed and give it a score between one (1) and ten (10). Decimal points are allowed, but only to one place (ex. 7.1 is acceptable, but not 7.15). Hosts do not care what score you give the songs as long as it is between those two numbers.
- You have to rate every single song in the rate. If you skip any and do not give me a score when I ask you for one, your ballot will not be counted. This is because the program used to determine the results will break if scores are not successfully put in and I will have a mental breakdown if the program doesn't work because it will be a pain in the ass to do this manually.
- You may give one song a zero (0) and one song an eleven (11). These should be reserved for your favorite track and least favorite track. If you do use either your zero (0) or your eleven (11), it is strongly encouraged to leave a comment on the track. It can be as short or as long as you want, but please leave one; it will help the sub understand if you should be canceled or not when the rate is being revealed.
- Please use the prepared link to submit your scores! That is the only form of ballot we will accept. We spent a lot of time and effort on it, so please use it.
- Note: if you're trying to access on a mobile device or on the new reddit layout, it may not work; I have made it so the link will take you to old.reddit.com, so you should use a computer to send in your scores (if possible)!
- If you desire to change any of the scores after you have already submitted them, simply message me and I will be glad to help!
- If we believe your scores include any form of sabotage (which would be weird for a Billy Joel/Elton John/Stevie Wonder rate), we reserve the right to reject your ballot. Sabotage is defined as extremely low overall average(s) that shows a clear bias towards or against one artist within the rate. If you truly hate the songs given low scores, we strongly encourage you to write comments on them. This indicates to us that you are not trying to rig the results, meaning everything will go smoothly. :)
- Your scores should not be considered confidential! Don't be scared to share them. Go nuts. Campaign for whatever song you gave an eleven to. Or not. This whole thing really is not that deep.
Commenting Guideline
It is also highly encouraged that you add song comments to your ballot! Do this by adding a space after the score and then typing to your heart's desire, like this:
Your Song: 10 I can tell everybody this is a bop!
You can also leave comments for artists! In order to do so, just add a colon after the artist you’d like to comment on and leave a comment like this:
Artist: Billy Joel: Wow, he’s so good, I wish New York was real.

2024.05.08 08:10 Careless_Proof_4006 Lois’ favorite child is Reese?
I’ve watched this series multiple times. I’ve made my husband watch with me and now that he’s seen it a few times too, he pointed something out to me that I thought would make for interesting discussion.
My husband thinks that Reese is Lois’ favorite child. Here are his reasons..
- Francis and Lois have always had a tense relationship. When Francis screws up, Lois lets him lay in the bed he’s made for himself. She almost wants him to suffer so she can prove she is right. She even sent him to military school.
- Malcolm is a genius and therefore he can take care of himself. Malcolm and Lois have had moments they’ve bonded over ( sex talk in the car, bedazzling everything in Lois’ room). However, he is ignored by his parents for the most part.
- Dewey is ignored.. always. He even accused her of sabotaging his piano competition.
- Jamie is such a new character and a baby so I don’t have much argument for him
- Finally, Reese. Lois goes to a third world country to save him from joining the military. Lois gets revenge on the girls from Reese’s class that pranked him (the girls let him think he was talking to a girl and brought the pig to their house and posted pictures at school). She even said in an earlier episode when Malcolm helps Reese cheat on a test “I’d sell Malcolm down the river in a second to save Reese” because Malcolm will be fine no matter what.
Now.. I don’t know how I feel one way or another. I just thought it would make a fun discussion. So what do you all think??

2024.05.07 11:16 Master_Banshin The Click first ever listen.
| Should I go for more clicks this year, or should I follow the click in my ear. HOLY SHIT, THIS IS AJR?!?!? So I just got introduced into AJR last week, and after giving Tally Hall a chance, I decided to dive deep into AJR's Discography. I started with a few famous ones, like Weak, Burn the House Down, World's Smallest Violin, Yes I'm A Mess and enjoyed them. I'm Ready and Thirsty were okay. But after listening to AJR's first album, Born and Bred, I wanted to be deported to North Korea. Luckily, Living Room was an improvement. However, so many people said this was the album that they started to know what they want to sound. So I had to give this one a chance. THEY WEREN'T KIDDING. And I know, noone asked for my opinion, this is dedicated to Unlikely_Conflict and if you don't wanna see my inhuman taste of music, keep scrolling. So many people, and I mean SO many people say that they peak at Album 3: Neotheater. Worth to review? For those really interested: AOTY Rating: 28(WTF 💀💀💀) My rating: 83(Fluke from 42) Current Favourite song: Sober Up Album Favourite Song: Sober Up Album Least Favourite Song: Three Thirty Favourite AJR Line: I'm a little kid, and so are you (Turning Out) Favourite Line: My favourite colour is you. Most Unique song: Blud Like You, Obviously Ok if you're really REALLY interested: Overture(Light W): Ok, I enjoy it, kind of, but less than Living Room's Overture. In the Living Room it felt heart-warming and welcoming. Horns and nice drums and a chill bass. But this has an EDM drop, which wasn't too great. Not looking too good for the album so far. The Good Part(Light S): Does the beginning sound like someone stubbed their toe to anyone? Alright, anyways, This is such a fun song. I didn't even mind the screaming of the lead singer. As a violin playelover myself, I couldn't give this song any lower than W after listening to that beginning. The theme in the song is talking about how they wish to have a button skip to the part where they become famous and a big hit. I could kind of relate to that, like I wish I could just live the best part of my life. Good theme, great even. Also, drop goes HARD. My legs were ready to leap up and dance one I heard, "Can we skip to the good part?" Lyrics? It was fine I guess. The verses were small and senstive, the drop is a banger, the chorus doesn't exist(unless its 1, 2, 3, 4), ending hitted me. The only complaints I have is please work on the chorus. It has nothing but the counting, which is just there, and that's it. Great song nevertheless. Also, the music vid was cute to say. Love the memories they had together as brothers, I assume? Weak(S): First song I heard from the band, at first it was a catchy pop song. Now as a second time listener, it was nothing but a Banger. The piano guy really did good work here, I felt every note. The "One Sip/Kiss/Hit" heats up the song and the horns, Oh My Lord the horns. It's so good, I nearly felt horny. Anyways, jokes as side, horns are the super coating of this cake and its legendary. No surprise this got platimum. Anyways, lets talk about the lyrics. Well put, all of them. Lead Singer, great job shouting "But I'm Weak", my heart felt something whenever he shouted that. It sticks to the song theme and is thought through well. Great S-tier song. Sober Up(Golden): Well, well, well, Mr Weezer, we meet again.I have spent hours trying to find a word from the English dictionary that can describe how good this song was. Safe to say, I wasted 10 hours of my life. This was their best song yet. I loved how it was produced, lyrics touched my heart and River did amazing here. Indeed Mr Lead Singer, how does it go again. Okay, lets slow it down. First of all, the beginning, the cello be gripping me in already. I play the cello and I adore it, so that may be no surprise, but this did take me in already. The "Hello, Hello" made of some interesting lyricism, talking about memories from childhood. Then, we get to the chorus, the gituar comes in CLUTCH. Lyrics could go deep here and that ending was incredible. "How's it go again." We transition back to the cello solo. Beautiful. The Drums also come along, accompanying the symphony and I got to say, it was glorious. Then we get back to the chorus but with the drums. We reach the bridge afterwards with a new solo for the cellist, and then Rivers Cuomo joins the party, with the best line from the album, "My favourite colour is you." That slammed me down and beated me to death. Finally, we were in the last pre-chorus, where everything dies down to just a few soft instruments accompanying the cello. Feeling the last pieces of hope left, he asked up if he could feel something again, before we were blasted with such a grand ending of the song. Everything is brought in and I couldn't resist dancing with lead singer as he sings with Rivers in the background. It finally end with a cliffhanger, "How's it go again." All I could say is, this is beyond beautiful, freest Golden tier for me so far. Music vid go pretty creative too and told a story with it. I love it so so much and I'm going to play it on repeat every day on my alarm. Great job AJR. Drama(Low Mid): I didn't enjoy it too much. I guess the song was suppose to just be a head bopper. The theme of the song wasn't dealt well and production was ... unqiue. There wasn't much to say here, just a bop song. High hat goes hard here though. Turning Out(Golden): A love song I could truely feel better than any Taylor Swift song I've heard so far. They did it again. Leave me Jaw Dropped and Flabbergasted. The love I have for the message of the song is impossible to be described by words. Its about finally being in love, but it felt nothing like what everyone had told you in the books and movies. And in no way am I putting this in S tier. Always dissecting time! We begin with another one of piano guy's great works, introducing to the mode of the song as something extremely heart felt. We get to the lore of the story, where lead singer says, "I hold you." He just met his love point, where he found out who he loves and already has feeling about something new. Something not right. "But I'm confused." Pre chorus, the piano is now added with accompaniments with some of the strings. and lets go piano guy, show them what you're made of. Anyways, Lead singer asks for help, get him in track and hoping to make this love work. What a way to show how you're feeling, I felt that struck my heart with a sharp ass arrow. Chorus, here comes the timpanist and hats off to him. Roll him the red carpets. He did AMAZING. Lead singer's voice turns from mildly passionate, to overload. It felt like he was spilling it on you. Love it. Verse 2 was just like verse 1, lovely. Chorus had a bonus section and I cherished it. He was really going all out. I could hear cracks in his voice singing all these lyrics raw from the heart. And finally, we got to the finale of the song. It starts with just as we began, just a piano, and we kept building and building from there. Here Lead Singer sings one of the most beautiful lines of the song, "I'm a little kid, and so are you." MAN I'M ACTUALLY ABOUT TO TEAR UP. He repeats this line and things start to build up. The electric guitar enter in, the vocals sifted up and the drums came back. And finally, everything comes back. Vocals are tripled, backing vocals, bring it in, everything, go go go. And then finally, we end withe everything fading away, Lead singer singing, "cause I'm still turning out." And it ends with a beautiful chord from piano guy. Again, beyond beautiful. And the only thing that could make me tear up was that music video. Such a beautiful story and something even described what I felt about the song, "Better than Twilight." AJR, my new favourite band. No Grass Today(Low Mid): What in the world is this song? I'll admit, Turning out was something I wasn't ready for in all ways, but I think this is some of the craziest writing yet. It's talking about letting other's smoke their lungs out and flexing that he doesn't? I don't know what to say about this. I guess the only thing keeping this above L tier are that the instrumentals. The drums be cooking in this song. Three Thirty(L): Bruh💀 Ed Sheeran is in the song. Otherwise this is a ... song. I didn't enjoy the instrumentals, the weird wind thing and the beginning could shut out someone's brain almost immediately. The lyrics were merely better than No Grass Today, like "I thought I had the ADHD, but that's a real thing, and I'm just lazy." It would be margining Burn it down, but the only thing keeping it up is the meaning behind it, the ending was pretty cool and Ed Sheeran, being one of my favourite music artists, being mentioned in the song. Call My Dad(Mid): AJR went risky here, and I guess lead singer had to take a break cuz piano man had to take it over. I guess they were trying to put it with no coating, nothing but a vocaliser and very few things supporting it, making the meaning more powerful. But this kind of makes the song bland. The music video is pretty bland too, pretty cool, but bland. I'm Not Famous(W): Ok, I know, it's weird that I like this song, but I dance with this. This just has a jazzy tune to it and I'm a Jazzy suck-up. Its not a song that I would usually relate to, or something I usually feel, but this is about how I enjoy the song as a whole, so screw it, this isn't getting anything lower than a W. Alright, let's talk about the song. The production, great as always, The drums gives it a kind of swing but straight beat to the song and the taberine replaces the high hat pretty well. The horns are the one that bring the energy higher up a notch and the piano was a great backbone to the song. Lyrically, this sounded similar to the earlier AJR boys. We could polish it up a bit better. That all, I might even say the mixing in the middle was alright too. And finally, the music video is crazy. They actually just filmed lead singer running around NY city with his PJs around? A W is out of question. Netflix Trip(W): Alright, just to put it out there, I've never watched the Office before. I've watched like a few clips and episodes, but that's all. So maybe the judgement here may be off by a bit. Maybe its S-tier worthy. Anyways lets get into the song. For some reason, I think this was suppose to be filled with reflections and memories from the show. But really the only place that I knew that it was from the Office was when the name dropped Dwight. The instrumentals definitely show this. The sombre piano, loud drums, and swell horns makes this kind of uplifting but depressing mood. The lyrics are enbolden well. Some things like having your first crush and losing your grandpa and ... Dwight becoming the head of sales? Anyways, heart-felt song, W and even comes with a gorious line, "So don't you tell me it's just a show." Bud Like You(Borderline W): Sea Shanty? This was very close to getting a mid, like if I didn't like two more thing about this song, its getting slammed into mid zone. It's just an EDM song, not the best I could really dance with or listen in general. The only things that really keep it up are the message behind it, which I think it was pretty genius, and the beginning, which I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy a bit. Did not like the mixing in the middle though. Come Hang Out(High W): We finally made it, the finale of the Click. What a bop bro, and what a relatable song. I'm not entirely sure if this was the intended meaning, but from my perspective, this talking about the stress of school, like high school and college, or maybe even just stress in general, like being in a growing band. You have to get things done, while your friends are partying and having the time of their lives, having parties and just hanging out. To me, the lyrics goes with the theme pretty well, especially when they brought back one of the most iconic lines in the click, "Should I go for more clicks this year, or should I follow the click in my ear." YES SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR Anyways, noone can say that the instrumentals are an absolute bop. Maybe I didn't like the edm in the previous song, but this one I can get around. I could hear this in a party one day. Yeah, that's all I could say. Very close to S-tier, but if put a bit more heart tight lyrics into it, it would have made it in flawlessly. Burn The House Down(W): Bro, I heard a really butchered, "You sticky pickle" when I first heard this in the mall. Anyways, this is just another one of those songs that blew up like weak, with the same kind of evil energy and all, However, for me this doesn't do as a good job as Weak. It was a song about taking action against their own haters, and quoting them, "burn gonna the whole house down." Horns carry the song, bass guy becomes one of the main characters in this song and the rest of the production makes this song a bop. Lyrically, I liked it, not as well as S-tier songs, but it was pretty well done. Also, it's X, not twitter. Also, I would love to see houses burn down in the actual music vid pls. Thx Role Models(Mid): I don't know what to feel about this song. Basically, it's about the brother's disappointment towards Kanye West? I don't know, I couldn't see what this is about. The instrumentals are just a simple guitar, vocals and a horn. That's it. Size didn't really matter in making instrumentals a piece of god's work, but this one didn't work out too well. The lyrics weren't as interesting other than the part when Kanye was mentioned, yep, that's all. Normal(Light-S): This song is a sad one, in a good way. The piano sets the mood pretty damn well and so does the production. The strings, guitars and piano, gorgeous. Lyrics can touch the heart like a waterdrop into a pond. You can feel their singing. However, as much as I enjoyed this song, the theme doesn't really relate to me here. It's about their feelings about the times before they blew up from their release from I'm Ready and now they are thing where they were in the road of fame. I'm not famous, no. Pretender(Acoustic)(S): I am a sucker for Acoustic tracks. Any good acoustic track, going straight to high W tier, and this made it to S tier. Lyrics in here, Lead singer was spitting. "I'm just like you" *OOOOOOHHH MY GOODNESS* Instrumental is so much better than Role Model, which actually has the same instrumentals, but it does it better, or conveys the energy so much better. The theme here, I can relate bit more. Pretending to be someone else because you don't seem that interesting. I can see that in me. Anyways, what an ending to the deluxe album, S-tier. Overall: This was a massive, and I mean MOMUMENTAL step up from living room. A majority of it I would come back to, and even if there are some song I don't really enjoy, I really enjoyed the album as a whole. The first half was kind of the peak of the album, if we are ignoring drama, but that's a good song too. Golden tier are songs that I rarely give out, and this half managed to get two, TWO. Anyways, the next half was enjoyable. Ending was epic and deluxe was a lovely experience. Overall, fluke from Living Room, and leaves me wanting for more from the band. The album gained itself a grand low S tier. But if this was just AJR's beginning, then what does Neotheater, the peak of AJR, sound like? https://preview.redd.it/lw932iio1zyc1.png?width=1134&format=png&auto=webp&s=496f6a1580cccc02a2b3dcdb1a6daae1f991e0f6 submitted by Master_Banshin to AJR [link] [comments] |
2024.05.07 03:48 Kris_Krispy Romantic/Charming piano music
Hi. I’m trying to impress some girls I know with some nice piano music. I hoped stuff that I like (think Chopin Ab nocturne, Beethoven sonata 31) they would like but I think it’s too boring/busy which is understandable tbh. I’m now learning River Flows in You and Golden Hour. I also learned Hikaru Nara a while back (my own enjoyment), so what are some other pieces I should look into? I wanted to do Lamore Dulce ciao I found a good arrangement on MuseScore.
Difficulty isn’t too much of an issue. I’m refining some bad technique but as it stands I have had pretty stellar performances of Chopin 10/8 as well as Heroic Polonaise, along with more traditional performances like Appassionata and multiple bach P&F’s

2024.05.05 16:43 Obatero How easy it is to play piano pieces on a keyboard?
I don't know if this question is stupid but how easy it is to play a piano piece on a keyboard? Like Erik Satie - gymnopedie no 1 or Yiruma - Rivers Flows In You. I have an unweighted keyboards, M-Audio Keysation 61 MK3. Also, is there is any similarities between playing the piano and a keyboard? Thank you in advance!
