2024.05.16 04:06 AutoModerator First Post in Production of Dream Reapers

Hello Internet!
I am a teen author, who started writing books at age 9. I invented a story to help me cope with death and my childish fears as I laid my head down to sleep. And, as I've grown, I've wanted to use my stories to help other lost people like me get sleep at night and have something to help them cope with reality too. I owe my story to you people, so, I decided to announce it here, before I finished writing it. This is so I can get your feedback on how you think the story should go as a whole. I have a general skeleton of how it will go, but I would like others to give the story it's flesh, to make it more than my story, but everyone's story.

Summary/Description/Background of My Current Idea of Dream Reapers:
After the humanoids rip the ground of all of its life and vitality, the mythicals come out of hiding to save them all. They combine their ancient magic to build three portals that entwine the three dimensions on earth. They name them all based on the soil and air of the corresponding lands. The first dimension, the dead, rotten, human infested dimension, was named Dystopia, and was overrun by clockwork creatures and new terrifying wildlife. The next was called Fantasia, that was where most mythicals were from, and where over the next thousands of years they would mingle and merge into one species of many evultimates (creatures mixed over time with other creatures) , the land was fresh and full of life, the air was crisp with clarity, it was named Fantasia after old humanoid text and beliefs about the Mythics. The final dimension was named Everlast, this is where the reaped souls of the other dimensions go to rest before moving on, this is also where the Immortal Reptarians live. All living dimensions (Fantasia and Dystopia) lived without access to Everlast, making it legendary or even mythical.

Thousands of years into the future, and @#$@! evultimate hatchlings get a mysterious warning from @$$*#U%$ telling them to search for Everlast, because if they don't, the dimensions would (#*$#&%*#@&%. The problem is, none of them can remember anything about their past, and through various missions, therapy sessions, and reunions, they slowly put the pieces together to save the worlds they travelled their entire childhoods.
Things this Story Includes:

Now, I guess it's time to meet the author, if you're curious! I have no name, so you can all call me by my reddit user. I am genderfluid, bisexual, cupioromantic, abrosexual, polyamorous person. I am the oldest of 5 siblings. I live with 4 other generations. I've been to two funerals before, both people I hardly knew, but felt remorse for either way. I am neurodivergent. I am a lifelong fnaf/Minecraft/Pokémon fan. I am an atheist, but if I wanted to, I'd say I'm a satanist, and if I felt like it, I could say that I admire Judaism and Paganism, but that's all hypotheticals. I am an admirer of cosplay and fur suiting, but for most reasons I sadly don't participate in the costume making/wearing. I come from a big city in "Hicktown" America. I aspire to create a community in which anyone and everyone can join and feel welcome.

This story is still under development, as I took a long hiatus from it and I kept on reworking it as I aged. I will be posting poles, development updates, as well as character designs (in my art style). I will also link my Discord so we can form a community on there too. On Discord there will be more updates and sneak peaks, but I will try to post equally on both! NOTE: I will be posting usually at around 7:00 p.m. Central Time, except on weekends where I won't do any updates, until late May, due to schooling.

2024.05.16 03:57 Apprehensive-Bad6015 Actor creation question.

So having a fun time making 2-3 sheets per actor. During convo I use different faces to try and convey emotional reactions the best I can. But what’s available in vanilla is limited. I found a few dlc that supposedly adds new stuff. But calls for a generator folder which I made. From what I can tell it adds a bunch of accessories. I got heroin creator 1 and it seems like what’s added is not really much help. I copied from the dlc folders name to name. But it doesn’t seem like I got anything I didn’t already have. Am I doing this wrong? Or better question is there a plug-in I should have added but didn’t? Are there any add ons that give me better options for faces. I think it’s weird that the only crying expression is open eyes. (Unless I’m blind which I won’t rule out) thank you in advance and sorry for posting so much.

2024.05.16 03:54 -PepeArown- The Melodic Forest: Concept for an End Biome

The Melodic Forest: Concept for an End Biome
I have four ideas for End biomes, the mobs within them, their uses, etc, so, I'll be splitting the four of them into four separate posts to write and upload whenver I feel like. I'll paste the links to all of the previous posts in each so that you can go back and read them for context, if you want to.
And, also, here's two miscellaneous ideas that'll be imperative to understanding my ideas for each biome.
Hydrender
A dark purple liquid that resembles water and that generates exclusively in the tilt bogs (another End biome idea that I will have to write another post on). It can be bucketed or tubed, and flows just like water or lava.
It behaves similarly to water, but you'll swim 25% more slowly in it, and it's even cloudier than water, both looking into it, and swimming in it. You'll of course drown in it, unless you make a potion of hydrender breathing. (My hydrender bog post will get into how to make one.) Also, Endermen aren't hurt by it, and can and will swim in it, it evaporates in the Nether, and all aquatic mobs aside from guardians will die trying to swim in it.
Amethyst Tubes
These would esentially be purple test tubes (the kind you fill up with liquids, usually for experiments): an End equivalent of the glass bottle crafted with 3 amethyst shards. I picked amethyst because it not only matches the color scheme of the End, but it's already used to make tinted glass, and spyglasses, two glass related items. Plus, crystals are reflective in general.
Amethyst tubes can be filled with hydrender. Drinking a tube of hydrender will randomly teleport you, like consuming chorus fruit, only that no hunger will be retored.
These tubes' main use is for brewing new potions, which this four post series will get into.
The Melodic Forest
Anyways, right now, the "main" biome in the End is basically one giant forest of chorus plants. This is a sort of lackluster biome on it own, but a great building block for my idea for the melodic forest: a forest of several species of End plants.
I'm calling it melodic because all the plants here will be named after musical terms: verse plants, chorus plants, bridge plants, and chords.
Verse, Chorus, and Bridge Plants
I want to make it clear that these three plants are not trees, and, even then, aren't meant to be a copy of the Nether's giant fungi, either. They're bizarre succulent/cactus-like plants that can be used for food or construction, but not for helpful tools like sticks, crafting tables, etc.
Although, they'd all be around tree height, which is why I'm dubbing this biome a forest.
All 3 of these plants can be grown with verse, chorus, and bridge flowers on End stone respectively. When these flowers have stopped growing, there's a chance a new block: the melodic blossom, an expansive white-pedaled flower that can grow from any side of the chorus flower not linked up to the plant will grow.
Not sure what a melodic blossom could do beyond decoration, but maybe being able to place them on blocks other than what I'll dub "melodic flowers" would give builders tons of exciting ideas.
Verse Plants
The shortest and most common plant in this biome. They'd be a dark fuchsia/red violet in color, and tend to branch less than a chorus plant.
Verse fruit can't be eaten. Instead, brewing it with a hydrender tube will give you a void elixir. Void elixir is esentially the End equivalent of an awkward potion: the base ingredient for all main End potions.
When popping verse fruit in a furnace, you can then use it to make fuchsur (pronounced "few sure") blocks. This includes the blocks you can already make with purpur, but also doors, fences, gates, trapdoors, buttons, and pressure plants. Fuchsur, hence its name, would take on a fuchsia/hot pink look. Something like this, but maybe a bit more washed out to match purpur.
https://preview.redd.it/4wzb5bckso0d1.jpg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e72e6f829bb2d298c6e2b703e0c627ad95124f89
Chorus Plants
These are mostly fine as is. They'd just be rarer in melodic forests to compensate for the abundance of verse plants, now grow melodic blossoms, and can be made into all the new building blocks I just described with fuchsur.
Bridge Plants
Like a standard song structure only has one bridge per song, only one bridge plant will grow on an island in a melodic forest. (Large melodic forests will of course have multiple islands.) They're substantially taller and thicker than chorus plants, forming what I'll call a "tornado shape". with their branches.
So, basically, when you try growing more and more flowers on the same chorus plant.
https://preview.redd.it/ewye97oito0d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d436f9ed5e0f6b0cb79103a8d6babb3586bf2fc0
Not nearly as big as this example, though. Big enough to be bizarre and stand out from chorus plants, and, well, have the tornado shape, but not big enough to burn down your PC every time you try to cut one down. They'd be dark turquoise in color, kind of like Ender pearls or sculk.
Unlike verse fruit, you can eat bridge fruit. Eating bridge fruit will teleport you to the nearest bridge plant, effectively letting you eat them to "bridge" in the End. Unlike chorus fruit, this comes with an even longer cooldown of about 10 seconds. Just walk to the island's edge closest to where the nearest bridge plant is, eat a bridge fruit, and you'll be teleported to another island.
This is the main reason why only one bridge fruit comes per island, so it doesn't clog up your teleportation periphery with bridge fruit. However, you can hone in where you want to teleport by growing bridge plants nearby.
In my post for my idea for the obisidan cliffs biome, I will be detailing a way you can "acnhor" the spot you teleport to with bridge fruit without having any plants nearby.
While I'd argue this is easily the most useful melodic plant just from the fruit alone, you can also pop them to make turquor, which would give you dark turquoise/teal colored building blocks. They'd be about this color.
https://preview.redd.it/h9d59671vo0d1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69f4a9f6a8672bed8823ed3c8837f69376c35d99
So, that's 2 new building sets: fuchsur and turqur, to complement purpur.
Chords
Small, one block sized purple succulents that dot the melodic forest floor. Not much use beyond being decorative, but you could also put chords in flower pots.
Citrusite
A brownish orange stone that can be found in clumps within the melodic forest, and other End biomes as well.
Can be used as an alternative for stone for tools or furnaces, but can also be made into all decorative blocks that blackstone, deepslate, tuff, etc. can.
I'll be detailing a crafting recipe that requires citrusite in my obsidian cliffs biome post.
Alright. Time to get into mobs you'll find in this biome...
Well, actually, I think it'd make sense if they spawned in several End biomes, but they'd definitely be more common here, as it's more "hospitable", at leats in Ender terms..
Baby Endermen
Not a new mob per se, but rather a variant of a mob we already have. Unlike adult Endermen, they're not mature or skilled enought to teleport to the Overworld or Nether, so they'd stay in the melodic forests with their Ender parents, another new mob I'll get into. Also, they're not strong enough to pick up blocks.
If you look at, hit, or attempt to hit a baby Enderman with a projectile, they'll start shaking and crying, proceeding to teleport eratically like how baby zombies are even faster than adults. This'll cause them to make an awful screechy, whiny noise that'll alert all nearby Ender parents.
You're not meant to kill baby Enderman. Killing them will drop nothing, and will be rather hard with how often they'll teleport in comparison to adults. However, if you do manage to make one upset, there's a chance they'll cry, and drop a tear of Ender, textured similarly to a ghast tear, only purplish to reflect that it's made mostly of hydrender, not water.
A tear of Ender can be brewed with a void elixir to make a potion of Ender skin. This potions gives you the Ender skin effect, which lets you teleport away every time you're hit.
One giant catch, though. With Ender skin, you're also hydrophobic. If you get in water, it'll damage you, and you'll immediately teleport away. If you use this effect while it's raining, you'll probably die, or pray you get lucky enough to be teleported to safety. You can stand in hydrender with the effect just fine, though.
Ender Parents
Taller, bulkier, stronger variants of Endermen with even more health. (With a build more like the warden or iron golems.) Their black bodies would be covered in several protruding amethyst shards.
Normally neutral, but will attack you if you attack them, or upset a baby Enderman. They'll attack with normal hits, but can also pick up blocks and throw them at you, including common End blocks like End stone and citrusite. They'll destroy the terrain just as revenge for you upsetting their kids. And, given what dimension they're in, yes, they'll teleport. They're also hydrophobic like regular Endermen.
Upon death, an Ender parent will drop more Ender pearls than a regular Enderman, but also a few amethyst shards. This gives you another way to get amethyst shards to make tubes, but still incentivizes you to visit geodes if you want clusters for decorative purposes.
Drifts
(Yes, I took inspiration from Alex's Mobs for this.)
If you didn't know already, the strider was originally going to look like this at one point:
Sorry for the bad magic wand job
So, for the drift, why not have Mojang reutilize this model somehow? I think it sort of looks like a tardigrade.
Drifts would be darker purple colored tardigrades that spawn over the void in the End. (Any biome, not just the melodic forest.) Not sure if Mojang should give them four eyes, or no eyes. Either would be weird enough for the End, I presume.
Like striders, they're completely passive, and can be ridden over the void (instead of lava) with a saddle. Real tardigrades like eating algae, but, I don't think that's really fitting for drifts, given that they'd be about the size of pigs, and not microscopic like their real world equivalents.
You'd actually need two items to steer a drift: the chorus fruit on a stick and the bridge fruit on a stick. Chorus fruit on a stick will cause them to travel horizontally, and bridge fruit on a stick will cause them to ascend or descend, depending on what direction you're guiding them in. Since drifts are meant to be an "elytra lite", you'll need to find a balance between using the two stick items to compensate, and make sure neither break while over the void on a drift's back.
Even after you get the elytra, however, I'd like to think drifts would be pretty useful for exploring the underside of End islands, which I may write up my ideas on.
Drifts can be bred with bridge fruit. They can fly, though, so you'd best do it in an enclosed area so that none of your drifts escape.
My next writeup will be on my idea for the hydrender bog biome.

2024.05.16 03:51 Narrow_Muscle9572 Water Bears and Dirt Rats

In 1945, the United States underwent Operation Paperclip which gave over 1,600 German scientists, engineers and technicians sanctuary and absolution of their crimes in exchange for the continuation of their research.
In 1953 those same individuals came up with and executed MK Ultra, an illegal human experiment that used its citizens (targeting schools, hospitals and prisons) as test subjects.
In 1954 the Plum Island was turned into a research center for diseases.
In 1975 the first documented case of Lyme disease occurred. Rumored to have escaped Plum Island.
In 2005 the DHS announced that all the work done at Plum Island would be continued in Kansas. Not just the center of the continental United States, but also home to crops seen in grocery stores all over the country.
The following is a true story.
Getting into work, one of the first things I do is check my mail. I’ve been a reporter for years and have amassed fans who like to write in and give me leads. Most of the time these leads don't amount to much (Sometimes I wonder if people send me things because of my apophenia and they are trying to get me off their scent), but every once in a while I strike gold.
I had been working at Whisper Alley Echos for a few months by the time I got my first lead. The package I got was small and when I opened it I saw a DVD that had the words “play me” written in black marker on it. Not knowing what was on it, I waited until I got home to put it on. Not just because I didnt know what was on it, but I was also busy working on a different project about how everyone in a nearby town just went missing. The official story is that they all went on vacation or went to visit a relative and decided to stay. I dont know about you, but I found that suspicious.
After getting home and shifting gears to get into the movie mood (popcorn, blinds pulled, etc…) I popped the DVD in and began watching.
There were dozens of different videos to pick from, some ranging from a minute to half an hour. Instead of picking one at random, I just played them in order. After all, all their titles were dates and times and I didnt want to miss anything that might make sense later.
The first video featured a tardigrade, at the time I didnt know what it was, but the scientist doing the voice over described it as being a microscopic animal as well as being extremely resilient. This went on for several minutes and for a moment it felt as though I was watching a nature documentary instead of something given to me by a government whistleblower.
The next few videos featured footage of the tardigrades being given something called “BB-F828” and the changes it caused.
The voiceover talked about how a tardigrade (this time he called them water bears and the two terms were interchangeable from this point on) was showing signs of several thousand generations of evolution in only a few days. Even though I know nothing about science, I could see that the thing on the television was not the same animal that was shown in the first video.
While they were never “cute”, at least they never looked like predators, but after a few videos I saw that the tardigrades were covered in what appeared to be padding. In a later video this padding would change into being chitin-like armor.
The last video was filmed two months after the water bears were given BB-F828 and in it the scientists could see them even without a microscope.
The next morning I went into work and started writing on my computer, copying notes from my small notebook. However by the time I started the second draft, Andrea, the office secretary, dropped a letter off at my desk.
It was the first time I got a letter about an “inside scoop” two days in a row.
The letter said that they were the ones who sent the DVD and if I wanted to know more I would have to go to The Rats Skeleton (a bar that used to be a speakeasy during prohibition. Because of this the place feels as though its a front for a comic book villain. The owners have leaned into this and did everything they could to reinforce this feeling with sparse lighting and everything that isn't red velvet on the walls being painted black) at a specific time.
Usually I wouldn't go meet strangers after getting an anonymous letter that tells me to come alone, but its a small town and I didn't have much going on that particular Thursday.
Parking behind the Merc (short for mercantile, where most of the grocery and general shopping is done in town), I descended the stairs and made my way to the back of the bar. There I found a woman that didnt look like she slept in days. Since no one else was in that back area I figured she must have been the person I was there to see.
“Hey, I’m Daniel West. Am I—”
“Sit” the woman said, motioning across from her. I sat down and asked her for her name but she didn’t want to answer me and when i asked for it a second time she claimed it was Jane, but there is no doubt that was not her real name.
“What made you reach out, Jane?”
“You saw the video?”
I nodded. “Yup.”
“And?”
“I have a lot of questions” I answered.
“Figured you would” Jane said. “Ask.”
“Well, first” I said, my journalistic inexperience showing as I went through my pocket notebook. “Who are you and why do you know all this?”
“Name isnt important” Jane answered. “Let me start from the beginning. We thought we were working on human survivability” Jane answered. “I thought that I was working for some company that had a government contract. That might be true, it might not be. Either way lots of money and resources have been put into this.”
“I saw the video” I answered. “What exactly was it that I was watching?”
Janes eyes were frantic as she looked at the stairs behind me. When I turned around to see what she was looking at I saw a local descending the steps and approach the bar. She only answered my question when she was convinced that the man wasn't eavesdropping, still, she spoke in whispers.
“We were working on human survivability.”
“You said that. What does that mean?”
“Exactly what it sounds like. Consider we civilize mars and the long term effects from the static radiation there. Or another planet that demands thicker bones because of increased gravity? Evolution might give us those things eventually but what if we need it now? In this generation?”
“So you made super humans?”
Jane was annoyed and slapped the table. No one was around to hear or see her but I still looked around anyways.
“We didn’t work on humans. We piggybacked off of some other countries' genetic research and made some breakthroughs of our own. When—-“
“Other countries?” I interrupted instead of letting her talk.
“Yeah” Jane said with a shrug. “Some countries aren’t tied down by the same code of ethics as ours.”
“That’s why you got a hold of me? To tell—-“
“We were working on small parts. At first individual genes, building from that success we went on to more complex organisms. Eventually, hopefully, test on humans.”
“But you never made it that far?”
“No” Jane said, taking a sip from her glass. “We tested BB-F828 on other things, building up towards human testing.”
“Okay, like what?”
Jane inhaled through her nose and looked at me as though she wasnt sure if I could be trusted. Then she sighed when she realized it was too late not to trust me, she had already went too far to turn back. “What do you think has the best chance of not only surviving a planet wide disaster, but also thrive in it?”
“Cockroaches” I answered.
Jane nodded. “Sure. Lots of people would agree with you, however that wouldn't be the best pick.”
“Oh? Then what would be?”
“Rats.”
I laughed.
“They are tough and can thrive anywhere. Even before BB-F828 they are smarter than roaches, plus rats have a complicated social hierarchy, similar to humans. Remember, I didn't just say survive. I said thrive.”
“So you tested all this on rats?”
Jane nodded. “We did.”
I waited for Jane to continue, but thanks to her staring off into space due to lack of sleep, she waited longer.
“What happened?”
Janes eyes drifted back at me, she was running on fumes. “Huh? Oh, yeah. Rats, right?” she asked while pulling a folder out from the seat next to her. She set it on the table and slid it over to me. “Here, take a peek.”
I opened it, expecting redacted pages of ‘evidence’ and while I got some of that, it was the photos that drew my attention the most. At first the photos were individual rats and a designated number they received instead of a name.
“How many rats did you experiment—” I started, but my voice trailed off when I came across a photo of the one rat with unique markings on its back now appearing to be bred for a war on pleasant dreams. Its eyes were pearly gray, teeth became tusks, its whiskers were thick and barbed. According to the scale it was on when the second photo was taken it weighed twenty nine point four kilos.
“A few hundred?” Jane answered, though it was obvious that it was just a guess. “They were paired off and put in different environments to see how they adapt.”
“Why would you pair them off?”
“I think it was to see if some would branch out and become their own species” Jane answered as she checked her watch. Seeing the time she sped up. “See, when something with BB-F828 finds itself in a desert, it might adapt to the point that it grows a hump like a camel. Or grow gills if they are in the ocean. The original purpose was for human survivability on other planets. We thought if we could discover how the adaptations work, and it could be repeated exactly the same over and over again, we could do something for humans. After all you wouldn't want anything unexpected to happen when you're in the middle of growing another set of arms or a dorsal fin, right?”Jane said. “But to do this we needed lots of subjects and all in their own environments. Each one had their own surprises, after all, evolution is random. Favors some things over others. One species can branch out to be dozens or hundreds. Thousands with enough time and environmental factors. When the tardigrades started displaying more predatory behavior we thought it was due to the change in diet and the increase in protein, but now we think its due to the rapid change. It drives them insane. All of this was surprising, but none as surprising as the ‘dirt rats’.”
“Wait. They are all insane? Also, dirt rats?” I asked, flipping the photo over to show the next one. This one revealed what I thought was a bear, but when I was about to flip it over to look at the next one I noticed its teeth. Thats when I noticed that it was a huge, muscular rat.
“Six breeding pairs, all kept in an empty pool full of dirt. They weren't given enough room to get out of the dirt, so they had to adapt to living in it. Anyways, because they are in the dirt its harder to keep track of what they are doing. Because of that, by the time we discovered that they had burrowed their way out of the facility it was too late. They were gone.”
“Gone? What do you mean?”
“Escaped,” Jane whispered. “And they are growing.”
“Growing?”
“Last I heard, they were nearly sixty feet but we honestly don't know. It's not like we can compare them to anything else.”
“Sixty feet?” I laughed. “Someone would have saw them by—”
“Underground” Jane said with a shake of her head. “They are underground. I know it's hard to believe, but how else can you explain those earthquakes in Chicago? New York?”
“Are you saying there are giant rats under those cities?”
“I am saying they aren't rats anymore. They are something else entirely. I am saying six breeding pairs might not sound like a lot, but rats reproduce so quickly it's terrifying. I am saying that they are so big and there are so many of them that they are causing those earthquakes. I am saying that due to their size they burn off lots of calories and some have evolved to hibernating.”
“Why hibernation?”
“No idea, but when they wake up they are going to be very hungry. Ravenous.”
“Any idea when that might be?” I asked.
Jane shrugged. “Some already have. We just covered it up.”
It might have been my apophenia talking, but with that statement I started seeing the bigger picture and asked Jane about the town that went missing (The story I was working on before her DVD reached me). Jane gave me the politician's answer, saying something without actually saying something, and that was enough to confirm that I was indeed on the right track.
Unfortunately Jane and I did not speak for much longer, she got a call that freaked her out and she took off. Before she left she took the folder and the pictures I was still going through. I haven't seen or heard from her since and have dropped the story about the disappearances that have secretly been plaguing our country.

2024.05.16 03:50 Fragrant-Narwhal-675 I refused to accept 'incurable' for an answer. It led me to create the app I'd wanted for 13 years.

Growing up with health issues, I was told I'd be on meds for life. The side effects sucked, but the doctors said my condition was incurable. I wasn't having it.
I started digging and discovered the power of nutrition and exercise. It blew my mind! Simple changes in what, when, and how much I ate dramatically improved my health. I was hooked.
I studied Health Science and put the knowledge into practice. After 3 years of dedicated training, I won a Mr Australia title, opened a gym, and helped thousands improve their fitness. But nutrition was always the biggest roadblock.
I spent countless hours educating clients, creating personalised plans, recipes, shopping lists - you name it. I needed a way to make this process efficient and scalable. That's when the idea for this application was born, 13 years ago.
But the tech wasn't there yet. Developers said it was impossible. I even tried to learn coding myself but hit roadblocks. It wasn't until GPT models came out that I saw a glimmer of hope.
Fast forward to late 2023, after selling my business and countless DMs with tech geniuses, it finally clicked. Two days before Christmas, I had a working prototype. GoodMeals was born.
Now, users can input their details and goals, and GoodMeals calculates their macros, splits them across meals, and helps build a personalised meal plan. We've got over 7000 macro-calculated recipes that can be adjusted to your needs. And the best part? You can describe what you feel like eating, and GoodMeals will generate a custom recipe that hits your macros in under 30 seconds.
No more excuses. No more eating the same thing every week. GoodMeals makes nutrition easy and accessible for everyone. It's been a wild ride, but bringing this vision to life has been worth every sleepless night.
It is by no means finished, and I still want to add and improve. The initial feedback has been positive, but I also think it could be biased, so I am posting this here to try to get some relatively objective feedback and see what others think about it. Feel free to roast me or the app, I will do my best to take it on the chin and use it to make GoodMeals even better.
Thanks.

2024.05.16 03:47 2201992 What’s this subs opinion on Spirit Boxes??

I just had a really good session with one. I’m pissed I forgot to hit record on the app I was using. I usually hit it right away when I open it up. Usually it’s just gibberish.
But the session went like this:
Me: Is there any Spirits here?
Spirit Box: Yes (crystal clear)
Me: What’s your name?
Spirit Box: Eve.
Me: Why are you here?
Eve: I’m Lost.
3 questions 3 direct answers.
When I realized I wasn’t recording I tried to get Eve back and then another male voice came through so I ended because it didn’t sound intelligent.
I’m so mad at my self for not recording that.
I like using EVPs better. Just a normal audio recorder. And play back.
But I’ve also seen some really crazy sessions on YouTube and Tiktok in places that are actually haunted. Stuff that seems super intelligent with direct answers to questions.
I personally don’t like them because I hate the constant static white noise generator. But when you get a good back and forth going it doesn’t seem like bull shit.

2024.05.16 03:03 whentheworldquiets AI isn't going to beat us. It's going to drown us - and we're going to help.

I saw a vision of the future the other day on YouTube.
It was an ad for a company I won't promote here by naming. In it, some vacuous jackhole was explaining -as though it was somehow a good thing - how their software would allow you to author a self-help ebook in just a few minutes based on a couple of prompts.
Along the way, he said something like:
"Of course, you should spend some time at this point to add personal experiences and case studies to differentiate your book from AI generated ebooks."
I watched the rest of the ad just to see if blood would start pouring out of any orifices in an attempt to escape the brain saying these things. No such luck.
I mean... This is where we are right now. People jazzed up to sit and sell subscriptions for software that they acknowledge IN THE AD ITSELF is creating a problem for THEIR CUSTOMERS, not to mention the creatives whose work they stole to train it.
The future we are staring down the barrel of is one where the talentless and lazy swamp the output of the gifted and dedicated a thousand, ten thousand, a million times over. It simply won't matter whether human-generated is better, because we won't be able to find it. AI bots will plaster everything with reviews saying how great it is to find some real human output these days -everything INCLUDING real human output, just tomake sure nobody can pick them out or even find the real human reviews.
Remember email? That was cool for a minute or two, wasn't it? Now spam filters are the only thing keeping it remotely usable. The problem we're now facing is infinitely worse because, this time, it's in the interests of the vacuous jackholes with the money to ensure we aren't able to filter out their clients' auto-generated garbage. How are they going to flog subscriptions - and then the ad-space to surface content - to the talentless and lazy if nobody's seeing what they produce?
Because that's what this is about, or will become about. Growing the market for ads by turning everyone into someone with something to sell. And charging them for doing it.
Eventually, of course, someone's going to figure out that they can cut out another layer of middle-men and sell AI generation on demand directly to the consumer. "Alexa, read me a book like Harry Potter but with aliens."
We aren't in the middle of an AI revolution. We're in the middle of a heist. The theft of human creativity and its resale by those who can only see its cost, not it's value.
Oh, sure, there'll be some performative gestures towards "ethical training", like Adobe's context fill using paid-for stock, but that money going to artists is going to dry up REAL fast. Because they'll have enough.
So: buy books. The paper kind - and not print on demand, either. The sort you see on shelves, that someone has had the guts to put real money behind because they judged it worthy. Buy records. Go to concerts. Don't let those value-chains die, because they're the ones most likely to lead to people who actually deserve it. And if AI can beat us there, on our home turf - so be it.
But don't let it drown us.

[First Contact] [Dark Ages] [First] [Prev] [Next] [wiki]
"Leave the sleeping dragons lie in peace" is a lesson that seemingly has to be taught to every wannabe conqueror over and over again.
Time after time, there will be a few idiots who only see the dragon's hoard, its cult of followers, and ignore the piles of rusted, slagged, calcified, scorched remains of every moron who tried before them. They see all of this and think "I can beat it to submission and take everything it has."
And then the dragon wakes up, and more smoldering remains are added to the scorched scrap heap.
And the Malevolent Universe grins in the darkness, and increases the "Dead morons who should have known better" counter by one. Then, waits for the next contestant. - u/Matt_Bradock, Terran Philosopher, Age of Paranoia, TerraSol

She knows the dead. She is of the dead. She is the keeper and guardian of the dead. Life, death and the feasting of swarms all are one within her. She knows where once-dead things were laid to rest and where the deathless still dream in their unliving slumber. She knows where the hungry dead have roamed the universe's fields, and where they still roam them unburied, and why no one remembers them as they tread. - The Fifth Horseman, First Terran Imperium, "Meditations Upon Immortals"

and your brain was once smooth
Captain N'Skrek checked his datalink.
The deep data storage was still at work bringing up information on "Legion" and "Sacajawea". The older databases of the Gray Lady had data at the ready, but it was sparse.
Two of the Biological Apostles of the Digital Omnimessiah, a figure of myth and legend.
Yet, they sat across from him.
They were talking back and forth in a language that the computer's linguistic database had no record of and stubbornly resisted any attempt to decipher it.
What N'Skrek did hear was several words that he recognized.
Daxin the Unfeeling. Daxin Freeborn. Chromium Saint Peter. Enraged Phillip. Matthias the Elder. Matthias the Younger. Kibuka. Kalki. Gravity.
A litany that left data scrolling down the empty space just beyond the edge of his peripheral vision.
Daxin "The Walking War Crime" Freeborn.
NavInt and MilInt were projecting with an 80% certainty (adjusted downward for unknown probabilities) that the beings in front of him were from that long bygone era.
Finally Captain N'Skrek cleared his throat.
The bald one, Legion, turned to look at the gathered staff officers.
"My apologies. I was catching my sister up on what has transpired since she disappeared," Legion said, smiling gently. He nodded. "You probably have questions."
N'Skrek nodded back. "The biggest one is: how did you..." he thought for a second. "Why did you..." no, that wouldn't work. "What bring about..."
Legion smiled.
"How did I replace all of your clones and why?" he asked. "Why is it that if you print off too many identical clones I show up?"
N'Skrek nodded. "Yes."
Legion looked at the Terran officers and smiled wider. It was a cruel smile, reminding N'Skrek of a hook pointed knife that had been sharpened to a keen edge.
"You didn't tell them? Have you really forgotten about me?" he asked.
"It was assumed to be still prevented by the cloning systems," Vice-Admiral Breakheader stated slowly. "We have only recently been restored ourselves. Less than two months time."
Legion just smiled.
Vice-Admiral Breakheader turned to look at Captain N'Skrek. "Running off too many identical clones causes Legion to manifest. It's why we use the Born Whole system, it ensures they have different brains, different expriences, and they have a slight variation to pore and retinal patterns, hair growth, minor things like that. Otherwise, Legion manifests."
"Why?" N'Skrek asked.
The Vice-Admiral sat silently for a moment before replying. "Because," was all he said.
Legion's smile didn't leave his face.
"Because it is my nature," he said.
Sacajawea said something and Legion replied in the same language, then turned to N'Skrek.
"My sister does not know why she was rebirthed," he said. He looked at her and spoke rapidly. She answered, only a few words, which made Legion reply at length. Again, only a few words.
"It must have been important," N'Skrek interrupted.
"She states that she does not know why the Immortals system did not rebirth her when she died," Legion said. He glanced at her. "She tells me that she died, with her people, when her peaceful planet was attacked."
"By the Mar-gite?" N'Skrek asked.
Again, more conversation.
"Yes," Legion answered. He frowned as she spoke again. "She says they were a peaceful planet. Anarcho-Primitivism. Very little technology. The Mar-gite attacked without warning."
She spoke rapidly and Legion listened.
N'Skrek saw the computer still was not able to parse the language, even though it could build a lexicon of off very little data for almost any other language it encountered.
Legion turned and faced N'Skrek. "She states that she believes it was the fact that some of her people demanded that high technology be left in place in order to allow the six planets her people had settled to remain in contact. That the high tech farming and sustenance industries led the Mar-gite to attack her."
Again, Sacajawea spoke, her head lifted, looking down at Legion.
"Why she was not reborn is unknown to her. She had guided and shepherded her people for thousands of years before the outsiders came. Outsiders drawn by technology, by the abandonment of the old ways," Legion said. He was frowning as he spoke rapidly.
The conversation took a few minutes.
"She said the outsiders came and wiped her people out after entire generations held them off. That in the final battle, they overcame her when her strength failed," Legion said. There was more talking. "She's describing the Mar-gite."
"Where was this?" N'Skrek asked, bringing up a map of the galaxy. "The First Mar-gite War was only three hundred years prior to the Council-Confederacy Conflict and lasted nearly a hundred years," the brought up a sketchy timeline of the era. "When did you encounter the Mar-gite and where?"
Sacajawea spoke again at length. Legion spoke back. It grew heated for a moment before Legion looked at N'Skrek.
"She will not say. She does not want us to defile or desecrate the worlds her people settled. She does not want us to know when or where," he said.
"That might be pertinent information," N'Skrek said. "Important information to keep the Mar-gite from overwhelming the Cygnus-Orion Spur."
Sacajawea spoke quickly, heatedly, half standing up. Legion put his hand on her shoulder, obviously encouraging her to sit down, but she shrugged, throwing off Legion's hand, and her speech got more heated, her eyes flashing with anger.
"She says she will not reveal her people's resting place for us to dig up the graves and desecrate them. That it is not anyone's business where The People have gone or what The People have done," Legion said. He turned and answered her.
The conversation got heated as the N'Skrek and the officers watched.
Finally, Sacajawea stood up and turned around, folding her arms across her chest, lifting her chin.
Legion's skin darkened with anger.
"Then you can tell them that load of bullshit yourself, little sister," he snapped.
He suddenly vanished in a swirl of black powder that evaporated.
N'Skrek saw that Sacajawea was shocked by Legion's disappearance. She stood there for a long moment.
"Dhruv?" she asked mid-air.
N'Skrek motioned his officers to stay silent.
"Dhruv?" she snapped, stomping one foot.
Still silence.
"Luke!' she half-shouted, stamping her foot again.
She turned and looked at the gathered staff officers, who were all staring at her.
"Legion?" she asked quietly.
N'Skrek held up one bladearm.
"It appears, Miss, that you will have to speak for yourself."
Sacajawea frowned and clamped her lips together.
N'Skrek just stared mildly.
your name was tiffany

you were created to serve the deshmuhk family
you were a gardener and a menial
but you have risen above that
Jaskel had just gotten a plate of food and sat down in one corner of the cavernous Dining Bay Twenty-Three.
True, it was a little bit of a walk from the Telkan Marine section to that particular dining facility, but for some reason Jaskel liked the food put out by Nutriforge-Eight better than any of the others.
Like the Gunny always said, it was the little things that count.
He had arranged his silverware, his drink, and given a short prayer when he suddenly wasn't alone.
A slender man in an unfamiliar uniform suddenly appeared at one of the tables on the far side of the Dining Bay. Jaskel watched as two more stepped out of the first. They all sat down and started talking rapidly.
To Jaskel, it sounded like an argument.
It looked like one person arguing with himself.
Jaskel ate quietly and slowly, trying to avoid attracting attention, but watching the Terran out of the corner of his eye.
Terrans were universally half-crazy.
And a Terran arguing with clones of himself was probably full blown crazy.
That, and Jaskel remembered how negligent the display of power had been that had left him hanging upside down in mid-air.
Much to the amusement of his squad mates who watched the video and laughed.
He was down to dessert when the far door opened and a woman entered. Jaskel recognized her instantly as the young adult Terran woman who had appeared nude from the cloning banks, even though she was clad in clothing made of brown material and decorated with beads.
She immediately made a bee-line for the man, who had gotten a plate with a piece of pie on it while the other two argued between each other.
She stopped and stomped on foot, staring down at the sitting man.
"You look stupid," the man, Legion, said when she stopped next to him.
"Dhruv," she snapped. She rattled off words that Jaskel's datalink couldn't translate.
"Not talking to you until you speak Confederate Standard. I know you know it," Legion/Dhruv stated.
She stomped her foot again. "Luke!" she snapped.
Legion looked up. "Part of me, a large part of me, feels that you lost the right to call me by that name."
He went back to eating the pie. When the woman looked at the two clones who were staring at her, they stared back for a moment then puffed into black dust that swirled and vanished.
Jaskel kept watching out of the corner of his eye.
"Dhruv," she snapped.
"Go away, Sacajawea," Legion said.
She stood there for a moment. Then she suddenly leaned forward and slapped the plate of pie away from Legion.
"I will not call you Legion," she suddenly said as the plate clattered against the far bulkhead.
"Go away," Legion said. He looked up. "Let me put it in a way you might understand better: I just want left alone."
The woman stepped back, one hand going to her mouth.
"Yeah, still scared of him, aren't you," Legion said. He stood up. "Or are you?" he moved so he was clear of the table. "Were you ever afraid of him, Sacajawea, or was it all an act?"
Sacajawea looked away. "He was everything wrong with the world, a living reminder of what kind of men destroyed my people."
Legion suddenly laughed. "You forget history, little sister. But, of course, you never had any use for history unless it served your own ends."
Sacajawea stomped her foot. "Dhruv, be nice."
"No," Legion said, his voice low and intent. "I have yet to hear you thank me for what I did in the cloning bay, much less what I did for you before you ran off and left me holding the bag."
your name was luke
remember remember
your name was luke
"I came back to find Matthias the Elder standing over the sundered murdered code of the Digital Omnimessiah," Legion said. "Then Daxin showed up, Matthias claimed I killed our Digital Father, so I ran."
"And he followed. Intent on killing you," Sacajawea sniffed.
"Yes!' Legion said. "Of course he did! I would have chased me in that situation," Legion said. He stepped forward. "And where were you, Little Sister, when it happened?"
She looked away and sniffed. "I was performing my duty, serving my people. As you well know."
Legion turned around, facing away from her. "Yeah, the people you had me bake up," he turned back around. "Not the poor bastards fighting a slowly losing war against the Mantid. They were your people too, but you left them behind. If it wasn't for the Mechakrautlanders, they'd be extinct with the rest of humanity."
"They had set aside the old ways. I told you that," Sacajawea said. She gave a sniff and turned her head away. "They were too consumed by blood lust, they would not stop fighting, would not embrace the old ways."
"EVERYONE WAS FIGHTING!" Legion shouted in a voice that made Jaskel's drink glass rattle. "There were hab-kids fighting and dying in destroyed hab-blocks in the ruins of megalopolises. It had nothing to do with 'the old ways', it was a fight for survival."
"You would not understand," Sacajawea said. She gave another sniff, still looking away. "I took my people away from where technology and the abandonment of the ways of our people had led us."
Legion stood still for a second.
"Don't give me that shit about your 'people', remember, I touched you. I know the truth," Legion said. He shook his head. "You had a task. A task to help us, help our Digital Father, help all of humanity, but you abandoned it."
"I had a task to help my people," Sacajawea sniffed. "I owed nothing to the world that stood aside or actively took part while my people were destroyed," she looked at Legion. "You wouldn't understand."
Jaskel could see purple electricity snarling around Legion's boots, clawing at the deckplates with thread-thick fingers.
"You were supposed to guide us along the path to the SUDS, so we could save everyone, Sacajawea," Legion said. "You betrayed us. Betrayed them. You were supposed to save them."
"Like they saved my people, Luke?" Sacajawea asked.
"You don't call me that any more, little sister," Legion said. "For the love of the Detainee, fucking let go of shit that doesn't matter any more. We humans have been genocided repeatedly since then."
"I'm not calling you Legion. That reeks of arrogance and pride," Sacajawea said. "And it matters to me, Luke."
"You talk a lot of shit for someone named Bird Woman," Legion snapped back. "How about I call you Tiffany?"
Sacajawea took a step back. "That is not my name. That was never my true name."
"You forget. I could see under that skin job. See who you were born as. I knew the truth, and I've kept it secret for all these eons," Legion said. He turned away. "You left us, left humanity behind on your so-called quest."
He turned back to face her.
"Now, again, we're facing extinction. The Mar-gite, they wiped you out. Now they're here in overwhelming force to the point where I'm not even sure Fortress Sol can hold them off," Legion said. "And you still want to play pretend."
He turned his back on her.
"You're no different than Matthias the Elder," Legion said quietly.
There was a dreadful silence for a long moment.
"I told Daxin, sitting in the parking garage where we used to meet, that we had to let go of the past. Learn from it, admit it happened, but we had to let it all go. The old hatreds, the old angers, the old rage," Legion said softly. "He agreed. He said perhaps it was time for us to leave the mortals behind. Let them go without us dragging baggage from worlds and events dead and gone behind us."
Sacajawea sniffed. "It's different for the two of you, neither one of you had your people..."
"I was a short bake slave clone, Tiffany," Legion said, his voice still soft and quiet. "Just like your family owned."
Sacajawea opened her mouth to answer, her eyes flashing hotly.
"One of millions grown in a vat every year. Made in humanity's image but without its grace," Legion's voice was nearly a whisper. "Our little band of siblings, only Kalki, Gravity, and Daxin came from families that did not order one of me from an online catalogue. Even Bellona lived with my people performing menial labor for her colony."
Sacajawea stepped forward, obviously about to deliver a scathing retort.
"But my people didn't count, did we, Tiffany?" Legion asked. He gave a deep sigh. "I loved you, you know."
Her mouth closed. She looked confused.
"When you left, I created another of you," Legion said quietly. "She was, of course, captured by the Imperium, like all of the Biological Apostles," he looked down at the floor. "It was why they didn't know you'd escaped."
Jaskel wished he was anywhere but in the dining bay.
"Eventually, that version of you threw off the Imperium's chains like we did. She went back to Terra. Worked tirelessly to rebuild. Eventually, led the Dandelion Fleet that became the Sky Nebula Alignment."
It was silent except for the muted sounds a starship under power in Transit Space made.
"I'll go back with you. Translate for you," Legion said, his voice still soft. He turned to face the woman.
"Just... just stop lying, Tiffany," he said.
He was silent a moment.
"I had hoped that it was that version, my version, the version I had been madly in love with, that version of you that had been rebirthed," he said. "The version who guided her people, who succored them, who helped them rebuild, who helped them thrive in the scarred and shattered world Earth had become. I had hoped, when I saw you, that you were her."
the buzzing can still be heard
your name is legion
"But it's just you."
0-0-0-0-0
Captain N'Skrek watched as Legion led Sacajawea into the briefing room.
He had been busy looking up every scrap of information on the Digital Omnimessiah, the Biological Apostles, Legion, and Sacajawea.
Of all of them, information was scarcest, almost non-existent, on Sacajawea.
He waited as the Terran woman took a drink from the glass in front of her.
She looked around.
"During the Human-Mantid War, before the destruction of the Overqueen by the forces of MechaKrautland, before the Liberation of Terra," she started. She closed her eyes, sighed, and opened them. "I begged Vat Grown Luke, who you know as Legion, to clone my people and help me repair and then hijack four colony transports crashed in the Middle Kingdom."
She looked down and Legion reached over and took her hand. She looked startled for a moment, squeezed Legion's hand gently, and looked back up.
"I led my people away. From the Imperium, from Terra, from the War," she said. She reached out and touched the holo-emitter, bringing up a map of the Milky Way. She touched a single arm.
"I led them here. For over eight thousand years my people knew peace, prosperity, and plenty," she said. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and exhaled sharply.
N'Skrek recognized it as a sign of stress in Terrans.
"Roughly twelve hundred Terran Standard Years prior to the Council-Confederacy Conflict, we were attacked," she said. She looked down. "I had sworn to protect my people, to use my powers to protect my people, which had grown to fill six worlds."
She looked back up.
"The Mar-gite destroyed my people in under a decade," she said. She looked down again. "And me with them."
"A glitch in the system prevented her from moving to Afterlife or being rebirthed," Legion said. "A glitch I had caused when I helped her."
"The Mar-gite destroyed my people here," Sacajawea said, her voice filled with pain.
A single cluster of six stars burned brightly.
Deep in the Scutum-Crux Arm.

2024.05.16 01:33 mapeps555 I got scammed and now I feel terrible

I recently found out that person who I trusted my savings to make investments has fled the country and is currently being sued by 8 other people for not paying back what he owes. Now, I'm feeling like an idiot
For some context, I (32 f) live in an underdeveloped Latin American country. I've worked since I graduated highschool in so many different places from family businesses, retail stores, advertising companies, and I'm currently working as a LS teacher. I mostly live paycheck to paycheck, but I had managed to save a little bit of money with some additional projects, around $4.5K, which may not sound like a lot, but is half my yearly salary, so, for me, it is.
Last year, I decided I wanted to invest that money instead of having it in my bank account. On the one hand, because I wanted it to generate some more money. On the other, because the country were I live in is currently experiencing a massive security crisis that has us, common citizens, living in fear. It's not rare to hear stories of people whose bank accounts have been ransacked by criminals through violent and coercive acts.
As I don't know how to invest or were to do it, I contacted a friend of my boyfriend (let's call him AJ) who worked in one of this investment funds or whatever they are called and asked about it. I had heard that some other friends had made some money through him. That, and the fact that we knew him and his family made me trust him. At first, at least.
While we were still talking business, he started to become pushy and to ask me repeatedly for the money, I told him I needed to wait and check the documents and all. I didn't like that, and had a bit of a bad gut feeling, but finally I assumed that the pushy part, was just him being himself (as he is known for being an annoying person). After a couple of days, I decided it seemed legit, signed a contract and wired the money. It was supposed to be for a full year, so I waited patiently. The year ended a couple of days ago so I tried reaching out to him, but his number was disconnected and his Whatsapp deactivated. Then, I searched for his wife, whose social media I followed and noticed I couldn't find her. Through some digging up, I was able to find a Facebook account with a different name. With that account, she had posted furniture for sale. That's when I started getting suspicious, because a lot of people are selling all their stuff to migrate due to lack of safety in our home country. At that point, I called my boyfriend to inquire about this friend and he told me he hadn't seen or talked to him for a couple of months, neither did the rest of their friends in common.
At that point, I went through all the information I could find online and turns out that his businesses, which were supposedly going pretty well, hence the lavish lifestyle he and his wife had, in fact didn't make a lot of money. And then, I checked the local judicial database, just to discover he had a total of 8 open cases for not giving paying back money to his investors.
I was devastated. I guess that it might take me a two to three years to save that amount again, and that's if there are no unpredictable expenses through the month. I had some plans for this year, like replacing my car and getting a minor surgery I've been postponing, which I don't know if I will be able to accomplish. My boyfriend consoled me and promised me he was going to talk to his family to ask how they can pay me back.
My SIL is best friends with one of AJ's sisters, so we asked if she knew anything about him. Which she replied "Yeah, I heard he and his family had to flee the country because they were in trouble, just one of the sisters stayed here". Through last activity in WhatsApp and other social media, I can guess they left last month.
So now my fears came true. I don't think I'll ever see my money again. But, even though this sucks tremendously, what's worse is how guilty and dumb I feel. At some point I had this gut feeling, but didn't trust my own instincts, and decided to trust someone who wasn't worthy. I can't believe I was scammed this way. I considered myself a smart, put together person, but know I'm insecure about my own capacity.
Talking to my boyfriend and one of my best friends has helped me feel better, but I'm unwilling to let other close people know about what happened, because I'm afraid they will think I'm stupid. I don't even know if taking legal action is worth it, as it might cost more that the actual amount. The people I could consult about this for free are the lawyers in my family, but it's just too embarrassing to let them know how easily I was scammed, as when I doubled checked the contract I noticed some sketchy things that I hadn't noticed at the time.
I guess I'm here just to vent some more, as I don't think I will tell the rest of my family and friends in the near future.

2024.05.16 01:24 benevolent_nephilim Which mod added the Deliverer to the LL?

I got a Deliverer as a loot drop?
Finally downgraded my game and fine tuned all my mods. Doing a "final test" playthrough.
Literally the first safe I open (cave under Red Rocket) I get a Deliverer Pistol. I got the legendary pop-up but the gun doesn't actually have any legendary effects.
What mod could be causing this? I have Damn Apocalypse Loot. I also used GCM to turn legendary enemy spawn rates to 0.

2024.05.16 01:23 TrainCrowCringeman Vishnu redesign profile

Vishnu redesign profile
Name: Vishnu Gender: Male Age: trillions of years old Pantheon: Hindu Species: God Alias: The Preserver, Hari, Narayana, Rama, Krishna, Parashurama, Madhava, Jagannath and so on
The preserver, oldest god of the hindu pantheon. Before the pantheon even existed, alongside the other primordials, there was Vishnu, a primordial, but also something else. A god. In the depths of creation, his brothers, Shiva and Brahma, the destroyer and the creator, started to exist from him, generated out of his navel, and the three decided to create their own realm, the realm of Svarga, where now all hindu gods reside. He is aloof and tranquil, a solitary person, but also deeply loving to all of his friends and loved ones, especially to humanity, whom he feels he is indebted to for their kindness and prayers to him, and thus teaches them many things in return, mostly by transforming into avatars, such as Rama, Krishna, Parashurama and so on. Despite his kind and tranquil attitude, and his natural hatred of violence, he is not to underestimate, he is in fact immensely powerful, has immense creation and destruction powers, and his final form, Vishvarupa, is so powerful that it's almost unstoppable. His main weapon, the sudarshan chakra, is a golden ring of pure energy that can even cut through steel, and that always returns back to the user. In other words, he is a kind and benevolent deity, but can kick your ass if you anger him enough

Super UPSCALE METHOD (ENGLISH) - (Super Inteligence Large Vision Image - SILVI)
Do you want to obtain these results using Stable Diffusion and without distorting the images?
ORIGINAL IMAGE

UPSCALED VERSION

My name is Jesús "VERUKY" Mandato, I am from Argentina and I love playing with AI.
This is my brief story about the work I did to get images scaled with the best result I could get.
Artificial intelligence image generation is a fascinating world. From the first moment I used it I fell in love, I knew there was incredible potential although at that time the results had quite a few errors and low resolution. One of the first things I tried was to obtain new "improved" versions of photographs that had low resolution. Using img2img I could take a reference photo and, through a prompt and some parameters, obtain some improvements thanks to the generative contribution of AI. But there was a problem: the more detail was added to the image, the more the person's original features were distorted, making them unrecognizable. I started to obsess over it.
I spent hours and hours testing different resolutions, changes in denoise values, cfg... I started testing the ControlNet module when it was incorporated into Automatic1111 but although I could better direct the final result, the distinctive features of the images continued to be lost.
Several hundred (if not thousands) of attempts later I managed to find a solution in ControlNet that allowed me for the first time to add a lot of detail to the image without distorting the features: INPAINT GLOBAL HARMONIOUS. This module allows you to control the generation in IMG2IMG in a much more precise way with a fairly high denoiser level. I did thousands of tests (which became addictive!), but I had a problem: In portrait images where the subject occupied almost the entire canvas, this method worked well, but I had quite a few hallucinations when it was a more complicated image with many elements in it. the picture. Furthermore, the final result, although good, was often too "artificial" and people criticized me for missing details, for example the freckles on the face. To try to solve the problem of regenerating images with many elements on the screen, I decided to use the TILED DIFFUSION plugin and it improved a lot, but I still had the problem of losing fine details. I tried to add the ULTIMATE SD SCALE script to this workflow, to be able to segment the final generation without consuming so much graphical power, but somehow it failed.
Then the ControlNet TILE RESAMPLE model came out and I was able to improve a lot, combined with INPAINT GLOBAL HARMONIOUS I could now work on images with many elements. I still had the problem of fine details being lost. I discarded the TILED DIFFUSION module.
A few days ago I was able to make a lot of progress with this method, changing the sampler to LCM and it was wonderful... I could already preserve enough detail while the generation became very creative with almost non-existent hallucinations.
So in the current state of things I want to share with you this workflow.
We are going to need this:

Automatic1111 updated
A version 1.5 model (in my case I am using Juggernaut Reborn)
The 4x-UltraSharp upscaler
The Lora LCM for SD version 1.5 (https://civitai.com/api/download/models/223551) - This lora must be placed in its corresponding LORA models folder.
1 - Load the model, in my case I use the Juggernaut Reborn 1.5 (*)
2 - Load the corresponding VAE. I use vae-ft-mse-84000
3 - Go to img2img tab in Automatic1111
4 - In the main window load the original image that you want to scale
5 - Select the LCM sampler so that it looks like this: (*)
https://preview.redd.it/2l71y4vo3o0d1.png?width=911&format=png&auto=webp&s=d58c0b630e1685200ee8a7b1623cb07286ed27f1
6 - In Resize mode place these values: (*)

https://preview.redd.it/hhnfmbmq3o0d1.png?width=644&format=png&auto=webp&s=a5994a2702bde19baa3e49ce093e704cf80caaa0
7 - Set the CFG Scale value to 2 (*)
https://preview.redd.it/keeeifqr3o0d1.png?width=911&format=png&auto=webp&s=e3ea519fa391940fbbca61bca0b79bad8c02848a
8 - Set the Denoising Strength to 0.3 (*)
https://preview.redd.it/0npa0rms3o0d1.png?width=912&format=png&auto=webp&s=82bbcefc7f47f3ad569e516e81f3532776bf552e
9 - We are going to use 2 ControlNet modules
In the first module we select inpaint_global_harmonious with these values (*)
https://preview.redd.it/0m0uol7u3o0d1.png?width=889&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3c159105ef3aba7fd130a613cdd6896ac587375
In the second module we select tile_resample with these values
https://preview.redd.it/7evioozu3o0d1.png?width=885&format=png&auto=webp&s=922a0da38349497ab5fea0d9f58d55e2bb748389
10 - In Script we are going to select SD Upscale
https://preview.redd.it/f57jlqcw3o0d1.png?width=917&format=png&auto=webp&s=e7d0c56d22784de7c0ad131d83edd0c3ca3416e3
The value of Scale Factor will depend on the reference image. For 500 px images I recommend values of 2.5 to 3.5. For images of 800 to 1000 px, values from 1.5 to 2.5 (you can do several tests to see which values give you the best results with your reference image)

11 - Do an INTERROGATE CLIP to obtain a description of the image that we placed as a reference (we do this so that the climber has more reference to what he is climbing and to limit the hallucinations).
Press the clip button
12 - Add the LORA LCM to the prompt and complete with some negative prompts and additional LORAS if you want (don't forget this!!!)

Ready, we can now generate the image.
Some considerations about SILVI:
PROS:
  • It is quite fast for the result obtained (45s on my 3080ti in a 500x800 Upscaled X2.5 image)
  • Keeps AI hallucinations quite limited
  • It maintains the facial features very well.
CONS:
  • May produce some color change if there is an aggressive setting
  • Doesn't work very well with small text
  • It can be very addictive
Regarding point 1: Other SD 1.5 models can be used, you can test with yours.
Regarding point 5: You can use another sampler other than LCM, but you must remove the LORA from the prompt. The advantage to LCM is that it adds a lot of detail at moderate denoise values.
Regarding point 6: We use the 768x768 tile resolution because it gives good results. Smaller resolutions can be used to increase rendering speed but having less data on the image, upscaling can introduce hallucinations. Using larger values will limit hallucinations as much as possible, but it will be slower and may have less detail.
Regarding point 7: The CFG value will determine the "contrast" that the details and micro details will have.
Regarding point 8: The denoising strength value will determine how much of the image will be recreated. A value as low as 0.1 will be more faithful to the original image, but will also preserve some low-resolution features. A value as high as 1 will recreate the entire image but will distort the colors. Values of 0.2 to 0.5 are optimal.
Regarding point 9: The value of Control Weight in the inpaint_global_harmonious module will determine how creative the method will be. Values higher than 0.75 will be more conservative and as low as 0.25 will create nice details (especially in images with a lot of elements), but may introduce some hallucinations.
Regarding point 10: You can use other upscaler models, for example 4x_foolhardy_remacry and obtain more "realistic" results depending on the image to be scaled.
I apologize for any errors in the text, as English is not my primary language.
Please feel free to provide constructive criticism on this and I am open to answering your concerns on each point.

2024.05.16 01:15 Linico_3694 Data structure for inventory app

Visual representation of potential data schemes
Hi all, I am a laboratory manager working on creating a Power App to track chemical inventory for the R&D group of a start-up company. Cash flow is an issue for us, so I'm limited to the tools available through Microsoft365 or free software.
I'm new to Power Apps and have played around enough to think it will probably do everything I need it to, and I can find answers to individual technical questions online. I'm struggling, though, to figure out the best way to organize and store my backend data. From what I can tell so far, SharePoint lists are better than Excel files for this purpose when using Power Apps as a frontend. My company does not pay for Dataverse or SQL licenses.
I will be the primary user of the app and curator of the underlying data, but it is likely other laboratory employees will also use it to find items and log them as they arrive or are consumed. The data I would like the user to be able to see and edit are:
Chemical name Chemical formula CAS# Container size Size units University barcode Company barcode Manufacturer UPC Number in stock Site Room Shelf/Location
These data can be generally organized into the chemical, product, and container categories:
Each chemical has a name, formula, and CAS#. These data go together and never change.
Each product contains a given chemical (with associated formula and CAS#) and has a manufacturer, UPC, size, and unit. These data go together and change slowly or not at all. Ideally I would like to be able to use a barcode reader to scan a product's UPC to retrieve its manufacturer, chemical contents, and size/unit data. A given manufacturer may produce different products that contain different amounts of the same chemical, and of course will produce many products containing different chemicals. We may have multiple containers of the same product on hand at any given time.
Each container represents a product and contains a chemical. Containers seem like the most logical basic unit of tracking for this system. Each container may or may not have either a university barcode (our R&D facilities are leased from a university and their EHS department applies individual barcodes to each chemical container that arrives on campus) or a company barcode (we have another facility away from the university and the capability to generate our own barcodes for individual chemical containers). Ideally I would like to use these barcodes to associate each individual chemical container with its location (site, room, and shelf).
The total number of chemical containers on hand now is around 300 and will likely grow to 450-600 in the coming year. Turnover is also around 300-500 containers per year.
My first pass at creating an inventory app involved loading all of these data into a single SharePoint list. I understand this to be a suboptimal data structure (the list contains redundant information and lots of null fields). But I don't have the experience to weigh how much of an issue this actually presents for my use case. In this most naive structure, I would simply add and remove records as containers arrived and were consumed. Inventory on hand would be tracked by tallying containers of the same product. This might actually fulfill most of our needs as far as knowing what we have on hand and what we need to order more of. It would not, however, give us any information on usage rates (not really information we need for now, but obviously useful in some contexts) or maintain a record of used containers. Again, that's not a function I'm sure we need, but I can imagine it being useful to answer to university EHS that a particular container was used and disposed of if their records and ours are inconsistent.
The second approach I've considered is a star schema in which chemicals (with associated formulae and CAS numbers), products (with associated UPCs, manufacturers, and sizes) and locations (sites, rooms, and shelves) are stored in dimension tables (SharePoint lists) and a fact table (another list with foreign keys referencing the ID fields in dimension tables) is used to log the receipt and disposal (and potentially location transfer) events of individual chemical containers. Inventory would be tracked either by summing receipt and disposal events or maintaining a count variable for each product. With turnover of say 500 containers per year this table would grow by a minimum of 1,000 records per year. This would put the fact table at 5,000 records in 3-5 years and then necessitate managing the view limit in SharePoint. I understand this is doable but don't really have a sense for the practical implications.
The third approach would be to use dimension tables for chemicals, products, and locations as above, but instead of using a fact table to log events, simply use an inventory table to store a record of each container received, with a status column that could be changed from 'in stock' to 'disposed of' at the appropriate time. This is another probably naive approach that would, as I see it, cut the number of records in the central table by at least half, since only one record is required per container instead of a 'received' record and a 'disposed of' record. But I don't know enough about data management theory/practice to know what problems this might create.
I would love to hear any guidance you may have about these data schema or any alternatives you might suggest. I would like this system to be as robust and flexible as possible within the limitations of my data storage options and abilities, but I also have a tendency to overthink things and not enough experience to tell when I've moved from "sensible and good enough" to "dramatically overengineered." So, with the context that this system will likely handle between 500 and 1200 records per year, involves 13-15 total columns/attributes, and is not (as of now) part of any larger BI or analytics initiative, should I put significant effort into organizing a solid foundational data scheme, or just use a single wide table to get a "good-enough" picture of inventory on hand?
Thanks in advance!

The search for an object of desire
causes suffering.
Conquering an object of desire
causes the fear of losing it.
The loss of an object of desire
causes extreme disruption.
Not one step of the way

If all desires generate suffering in this way,
How can you get rid of them?
Is it possible to get rid of desire

2024.05.16 01:02 taziamoma New Competitive Valorant League Survey

Hi everybody,
I've been reading through this and other subreddits, and I've noticed a lot of similar complaints: there aren't enough skill-based leagues, there aren't enough opportunities to play competitively, and it is difficult to generate revenue from Valorant esports. We are, therefore, considering establishing a league that addresses these problems.
My name is Taz, and I am Aurelia's founder. We're not an esports team—we're creating a cutting-edge Valorant league. We aim to establish a platform encouraging opportunity and professional development for all teams and players. The goal of this league is to establish an ecosystem that will enable organizations to be compensated, allowing players to be compensated.
But first, we need your assistance! As I move through the user research process, we're gathering as much feedback as possible. We ask players and team/org owners to complete a survey to help us design the league to best serve the community. If this interested you, here is the link to the Aurelia League Survey at https://aurelia.gg/aurelia-league-survey/
Let's work together to create a Valorant league that fosters community, support, and opportunity. I'm eager to collaborate with you on this and hear your opinions! As a tiny mark of our gratitude, we will award participants with Valorant points at random.
I appreciate your help.

2024.05.16 00:32 Smurphilicious Based purely on KKC's world building, Kvothe could invent the electric guitar (without Naming)

Had this thought and it tickles me because of how well it could fit into the story despite being ridiculous at first glance.
KKC has loden-stones and the runes that can provide the links to transfer the energy between two points without wires. So if Kvothe masters loden-stones in DoS, there could legit be a plot line of Kvothe 'reinventing the lute' like Illien did, except Kvothe could create "the galvanic lute".
Because that's what the pickups on an electric guitar are. It's just tiny magnets under the strings, wrapped in copper that converts the vibrating strings energy, the energy goes to the amplifier which is tada, more magnets.
The cone is fixed around its outside edges and base to a solid metal frame called the basket. A wire coil that’s wound around a tubular former is attached to the centre of the cone and is inserted into a circular gap between the north and south poles of a magnet. A dust cap covers the assembly to keep the gap free of debris and the coil assembly ‘floats’ in the gap without touching the sides.
When an alternating current from an amplifier is connected to the wire coil, a fluctuating magnetic field is formed around the wire, which interacts with the fixed magnet. This causes the assembly to move backwards and forwards through electromagnetic induction.
Springiness around the outside edge of the cone and the flexible ‘spider’ membrane at the base allows it to move with the coil assembly. The cone creates areas of compression and rarefaction in adjacent air particles, much like the soundboard of an acoustic guitar. In other words, they both generate sound waves, but speakers are driven electronically rather than mechanically.
So based purely on KKC's world building and the established rules for sympathy, Kvothe could invent the electric guitar and amp in the fishery, and it'd be even more badass because there'd be runes carved instead of wires connecting the guitar to the amp.
Which would be fucking awesome. Kvothe "spidering" out another sick solo, he'd even have those nice 'howling' long notes that you can't get from acoustic guitars. Obviously it'd need a better name than 'galvanic lute'. Could call it "the glute" because it makes your ass fall off
thought it was funny

Colonel James M. Gavin shifted uncomfortably in his seat at the War Department and closed his eyes tightly to block out the pressure he felt building up in his head. Opening them, he continued to read the newspaper sprawled out on his mahogany desk:
PRESIDENT LA FOLLETTE ACQUITTED IN IMPEACHMENT TRIAL
RUMORS OF SHAKE-UP WITHIN ADMINISTRATION AND MORE OPPOSITION ARRESTS ABOUND
In a rare moment of outward fury for the normally stoic soldier, Gavin crumpled the newspaper and threw it across his Pentagon staff office. He had already read the thing twice over to make sure he hadn’t missed anything the first time. To read it again would just be an exercise in making himself even more depressed. Colonel Gavin stood up and walked to the office window and looked out. Summer was rapidly dying and Fall was taking root, already some of the leaves on the trees were turning to new, vibrant colors. His office with the Strategic Plans Department was on the Eastern side of the Pentagon and offered him a view of the gently flowing Potomac River and into Washington DC itself. On clear days, such as today, he could even see the needle of the Washington Monument sticking triumphantly high into the sky. On other days the view might have filled him with pride, but today all he felt was dread. Looking over the Potomac he tried to make out where the White House would be. What was going on in there right now? Was the President and his gang of fascist jackals working out their next plan to strip away American democracy or disappear another political opponent at this very moment? Was this what he had fought for? What so many of his comrades in arms had died for?
He thought back. Gavin had always wanted to be a soldier. He was not born into some political dynasty or with a silver spoon in his mouth, no, he had to work for everything he wanted. He had been an orphan and whatever free time he had was devoted to work. Whether as a paperboy or a barbers assistant caring for the miners in his poor Pennsylvania town, he was always working. He knew he had to get out. Listening to his school teachers' lectures about the Civil War and the stories of discharged veterans from the Canadian front opened his eyes to the world outside coal mining and poverty. He knew had to be a soldier. The Americans who went off to fight in these wars were heroes to him, they did not fight for riches, they fought for what was good, decent, honorable, and righteous. Democracy. The thought was the only thing that kept him going when he had to get up before the crack of dawn, when he had to give up on making friends, and when his adoptive father forced him to drop out of school in 8th grade to work full time. He had his break when the Revolution began in 1921 and at only 15 years old he ran from home to join an anti-communist militia marching off to liberate New York City. Gavin was filled with pride as they marched off to battle and sang old marching tunes as well as praises for the newly inaugurated President Lejeune. Wearing a shabby, worn-out uniform a kind Sergeant had given to him, and using an old hunting rifle, he fought through the streets of the Big Apple alongside Patton’s regulars and the collaborationist bastard Hugh Johnson. The irony of the fact he had been fighting against Benjamin Gitlow, who now seemed to have been the last best hope of democracy in the United States, did not escape Colonel Gavin.

He had proved himself in the Revolution, enough to stay in with the Pennsylvania National Guard as a Corporal and fight the insurrectionist remnants with distinction until 1924 when one of his superior officers decided he might cut it as an officer and got him an appointment to West Point. The Academy was hard, but he was used to dealing with challenges so he was up at 4:30 every morning to try and catch up on the basic education he had been forced out of as a boy. After graduation, he got to serve on the far frontiers of American global reach where he witnessed brutality not seen since the Revolution, except this time it was not undisciplined militias or renegade Japanese collaborators, but regular United States Federal troops. Confronted by the reality of the crimes committed by a few notable Caribbean officers in the Moroland shook his faith in what he was fighting for, but still, he persisted. Those men were in the minority and their actions brought shame to the military as a whole, even as the politicians back home lauded them or helped to cover it up. It was then he first began to notice the uneasy glances shared between servicemen as they read the newspapers or talked about the events in hushed tones. At the time they were few, and no one was outspoken, but still, Gavin had noticed. When a new Pacific War broke out, all of that was forgotten as the Army of the Free marched off once more to battle. Good god, Guadalcanal had been so hot and the Japanese had been so fierce. As one of the masterminds behind the Airborne Corps, it was only right that he once more serve on the frontlines with his men and so he made every combat jump the 82nd Airborne conducted during the war. Gavin had fought in every major battle and watched as the men around him were maimed, mutilated, and murdered by a vicious enemy in a war of aggression he was beginning to lose faith in.

He was off the coast of Iwo Jima, on board an aircraft carrier for a planning conference on the invasion of Japan, when the room suddenly turned white with the flash of the nuclear bomb. In an instant, 75,000 soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, sons, brothers, fathers, and husbands were vaporized by the deadliest weapon known to mankind. A follow-up attack on Guam was just as bad. What had they died for? Democracy. It had to be something as just and noble as that. To spread democracy and bring peace to the Pacific. Right? The atomic bombings of Japan followed soon after.
Because of the nature of the Japanese defeat, the collapsed central government was unable to stop the raging fires, set up food distribution, or stop the roaming bandits in large swathes of the country. To counter this, an immediate American occupation was needed to restore order, end the famine, and set up a provisional government. The planning for the airborne contingent of this action, entitled Operation Eastern Wind, was left in the capable hands of theater-ranked Major General James Gavin. Eastern Wind would include massive amphibious landings across the Japanese Isles, preluded by the largest airborne drop the war had seen pinpointed outside major cities to secure vital infrastructure as the seaborne troops and equipment arrived. In a personal victory during planning, Gavin had used the loss of personnel on Iwo Jima and Guam to argue for the integration of all-black paratroop units into the rest of the Airborne Corps to bolster numbers before the big jump. Then in early September 1945, the skies over Japan were once again filled with the roaring sounds of American engines as thousands of paratroopers jumped from their transports to begin the occupation of Japan. Jumping into the icy vacuum one more time, Gavin landed on the outskirts of Tokyo and was the highest-ranking American officer in Japan for about two hours before the rest of the Army hit the beaches. As he and whatever men landed near him advanced on a railroad depot where he planned to set up his headquarters, they were horrified to find it had become an open-air hospital and mass grave for Japanese civilians caught in the Tokyo atomic bombing. The horrific stench of rotting corpses and gangrenous infected innocents permeated the air and Gavin’s first instinct was to vomit and shield his eyes. But as a soldier, and especially a soldier who was good, decent, honorable, and righteous, he instead directed the creation of an aid station along with an operational headquarters to assist the beleaguered Japanese doctors and nurses. Over the next few months in Japan, Gavin saw the extent of the destruction wrought in the name of ‘democracy’. When the final tally of over 2.5 million civilian casualties, was released he believed it. The Japanese people had suffered greatly, so he could only hope that peace would hold out when he received new orders to head the innovative Strategic Plans Department back in Washington DC at the end of 1946.
Operation Eastern Wind, directed by Theater-Ranked Major General Gavin, would see the largest airborne drop of the war as the American military began its occupation of Japan. The landings would meet no formal Japanese resistance and allowed for the quick seizure of vital infrastructure across the country. American troops encountered firsthand the effects of the nuclear attacks, the subsequent famine, wildfires, and governmental collapse.
Bumped back down to a peacetime rank, Gavin continued to climb the ladder arguing for the modernization and integration of the armed forces. He tried to readjust to peacetime service and revert to how he had served all the other presidential administrations, but something was different about La Follette. Gavin had initially viewed him positively, seeing as he had been a soldier in the Pacific before rising to the highest office, but that quickly changed with the appointment of MacArthur as Secretary of State and the dictatorial nature of the Administration in occupied Japan. As the years passed, Gavin noticed a rise in the uneasy glances he had not seen since the Moroland warcrimes had been revealed. Officers reading their newspapers would shoot a look at their comrades before receiving a knowing and acknowledging look back. Pre-briefing meetings often took an off-topic turn as someone would bring up current events and the whispers and hushed voices began. Perhaps someone would bring up the actions of the Black Shirts and reminisce about their actions during the Revolution and how the revolutionary militias and extremist fascists seemed awfully similar. Sometimes the room would go silent when an Administration appointee or outwardly supportive serviceman would walk in and the huddled soldiers would quickly and quietly disperse. Still, it was business as usual in the Pentagon and on all the bases that Gavin would visit on tours. Then the chaos of the 1948 Farmer-Labor Convention happened, followed by the streetfighting, followed by the reelection of the President, the arrests of political opponents, and the revelations preceding the impeachment attempt. Slowly but surely the number of disaffected servicemen rose with each incident and some commanders were beginning to give uncomfortable, but necessary, reminders to their men on the apolitical nature of the military and its members, even if they were beginning to lose faith in that too.
The Pentagon was abuzz with quiet discontent. Even if it was unconfirmed it was clear to most servicemen that Lindbergh and La Follette had murdered General Smedley Butler or were at the very least deeply involved in the cover-up. Once again paramilitary forces were roaming the streets of America. Once again opponents of a political philosophy were in real, mortal danger. Once again American democracy was under threat from the inside. Gavin’s generation of servicemen had marched off to war to fight for something that the La Follette administration did not care about. The current Officer Corps of the United States Military idolized Smedley Butler and John Lejeune and every affront against their names and legacies was duly, but as of yet silently, noted. The Lower Enlisted and especially Non-Commissioned Officer Corps also looked on at the proceedings with great interest as it seemed that their sacrifices in the Revolution and Pacific War were being forgotten and their authority handed over to a bunch of undisciplined and hyper-partisan Black Shirts. The uneasy glances abounded in the War Department. Outspoken fascists and La Follette supporters who seemed to have forgotten their oaths were increasingly shunned and effectively exiled by their comrades and superior officers.
James M. Gavin took a step back from the window and sneered. I cannot believe that disgrace Batista came in second he thought. Looking out at the skyline of the home of sacred American democracy, it very suddenly became very clear that the union was approaching a precipice. It was quite possible that the Administration might call upon the military to enforce its will should they take a step to alter the very fabric of the United States. If and when that time comes… what would the military’s response be? Not the reaction from the higher-ups, the ones appointed by the politicians, but the reaction from the men? The Officers and Enlisted who had watched their buddies die overseas as they fought for some vague notion of advancing the cause of freedom? The Officers and Enlisted who had set out to defend America during the Revolution? Personally, Gavin knew what he would do, and he had a general feeling about what the rest of the men of the military might do. But the revelation had forced the thought into his mind and he knew he would never be able to shake it again. He sat down at his desk once again and began to outline a list of names. Once he had finished, he looked it over again, committed it to memory, took out his lighter, and burned the paper. He would set about doing what he did best. Organizing and planning. He wasn’t sure just how paranoid the Administration was, but he would leave no paper trail, only speak to those he was absolutely sure he knew the sentiments of, and take every precaution as he made feelers. Too much was at risk. Too many had died. Too many had sacrificed. Too many who naively believed that their bloodshed would not be in vain and that their superiors in the government were also good, decent, honorable, and righteous. James M. Gavin would do whatever he could to remind Washington that there were still patriots willing to fight for a worthy cause. And if necessary, die for it. Democracy.
