Four months ago, a friend added me to an Instagram group with many people my age. It was the day before Valentine's Day, February 13th, and since I was single, I decided to play a prank on a girl I didn't know by asking her if she wanted to go out with me. It was just a joke and not serious at all.
To my surprise, she quickly understood that it was a joke, and we started talking privately. The more we talked, the more we realized we had a lot in common. We began talking every day, understanding each other deeply and never judging one another.
A week into our conversations, I went to a psychologist and was diagnosed with depression. I wasn't very surprised because I had been feeling quite sad and unmotivated for the past few weeks. I trusted her enough to tell her about my diagnosis, even though we had only been talking for a week. She understood and supported me through it.
From then on, we started talking about more personal things. I discovered that she wasn't as happy and cheerful as she seemed either. Then, Ramadan began, and those were some of the best moments I had with her. Every evening when I went out, we would call each other and share stories. It was truly incredible.
In Algeria, during Ramadan, there's a beautiful atmosphere in the evenings. However, we didn't live very close to each other. She lived in Bejaia, and I lived in El Kseur. Given that we were only 14 years old, it was quite difficult to plan a meeting, especially during the school year. Despite the distance, we kept our hopes up.
Then came the beginning of the decline. One day, we were chatting as usual, and since I had class, I said goodbye to her, and she did the same. When I came back home and sent her a message, I noticed that her name had changed to "Instagram User." She had blocked me.
I tried sending her messages on all her accounts, but each time she would block me and leave me on read. The first few days were terrible, some of the worst in my life. After two weeks, I remembered that I still had her phone number, so I sent her a text message thanking her for all the help she had given me and saying goodbye.
To my great surprise, she replied, "Hey (my name), I’ll explain later why I blocked you. I’m sorry, I’ll explain because I don’t have much time now. I hope you’re doing well." I waited another two weeks, and she added me on Instagram again, on a secondary account where I only had my close friends since I had deactivated my main account.
We started talking again, but less frequently, and she was less talkative. After a week, she would only reply to me at night and didn't want to continue the conversation. I sent her a message addressing this issue before going to sleep. The next day, my phone was stolen.
Remember when I told you that I had deactivated my main account to be on the secondary one? I had forgotten the login details of the account where we were talking. I tried everything but couldn't get back in. I asked a friend to send her a message to unblock me on my main account, but I still don't know if she replied or not.
I recovered my SIM card and sent her a text message, but she hasn't replied. Last night, I had a dream. It was blurry, but I remember that she had blocked me on all social media, and my heart exploded with sadness because she was all I had.
I suspect that I might have fallen in love with her a few weeks ago. She is very open-minded and has never judged me. I'm so afraid of losing her because she means so much to me. I know I should try to move on, but I can't help but feel that I should try to talk to her again. What if she responds and we start talking like before? All this pain would just be a bad memory.
I worry that I might never find someone like her again. She showed me Lil Peep, and I love listening to his music, but it reminds me too much of her. I feel like she genuinely appreciated me. What if she only kept talking to me all this time just to avoid hurting my feelings?

2024.05.17 01:52 ILikeFirmware STM32 USB Controller Interrupts -- Is it natural or required to have longer interrupts?
I'm thinking about a project I did a year ago in which I created a USB HID device using an STM32 (STM32F303ZE) and I recall being pretty frustrated at how large the ISR for USB control ended up being as I was writing it. I understand in embedded that it is good to have short and sweet interrupts and to keep things that don't strictly require being in interrupts to the main loop. But with the USB controller on these things, I found my interrupt spiraling out of control.
First you get the general USB interrupt where you have to handle state related messages, such as suspend and waking, but additionally, you have to test for flags related to endpoints and whatnot. I broke the first "rule" of not calling functions inside of interrupts, but to keep the code base clean, I called functions based on the different flags I got from the USB controller. For the USB enumeration, I have to do a lot of bit manipulation of the default endpoint buffer, store those values for reference in my switch statement, and then handle the various cases in that switch statement, some of which even have their own switch statement to handle further cases. I could just do simultaneous comparisons of related flags to avoid switch nesting, but that would've made debugging a pain and would've looked even worse than having any nested switch statements. But both feel terrible. Although, I'm not sure how big of a code smell it is to have nested switch statements. Normally I would put a function inside the case that contains its own switch statement, but I don't want to litter my interrupt with functions
Then there's the issue of having endpoint specific flags set, so now i have to also call a function from the general USB interrupt to my endpoint handling function, where I have switch statements for handling various cases of requests that are coming from the host. Even though I know these functions will very likely be inlined by the compiler so we aren't losing time to the call stack, it still feels a little dirty. I would love to process this stuff separately, but their are timing constraints on responses on the USB bus, and I have to populate the TX buffers with data indicating results or supplying data. It's probably the largest ISR I've written and I don't think its possible to make it much smaller if I went back and tried, but sometimes it hurts me inside to think about the size of it. Much bigger than any SPI or I2C interrupt I've written, that's for sure. I mean, around 300-400 lines of code just seems insane for interrupt...
Does anyone else have experience with no-HAL USB work on the STM32 and can either attest to or refute the need for this much code? It just keeps me up at night sometimes lol
This was from my senior project in college, so I don't really have any experience with a professional code base or much exposure to professional practices. Would very much like to learn how some of these things could be improved if there's anything to be gleaned from my post

Feels like a Dodged a bullet with this 20f who posted here about meeting people in the London social sub about meeting new people while she was visiting from Wiltshire. I Messaged the girl saying I was free when she was visiting and we talked a bit and then we both told each other where we were originally from (I’m from oman she’s from Portugal) and this is when, out of nowhere, she started talking about how foreigners are filthy and disruptive and had some repulsive, racist views on Indians too. she was from Portugal herself. She said London is an unsafe shithole filled with foreigners. When I asked why she was visiting if that’s her view, she said just for new pics for her insta omg!!!! Then after I was trying to reasonably change her absurd views she called me a dirty broker rat foreigner and said at least she has a "rich British hubby" and that I should go back to my country Imao. Can something be done about this?

Could I have handled this differently?
I am a 29 female, mainly working for myself and with a family member from time to time. I have a couple of activities in the evenings that I do for myself after my work day. A friend from one of my activities passed away on May 8th, 2024. I take care of animals (horses, dogs and cats are my main clients), I watch after and take care of these animals while their owners are away, elderly or when a family emergency happens, I do my best to be there for them and their animals.
I'll try to pack as much detail as I can but keep it fairly short. I've been doing this kind of work for about 3 years all together. One of the people I have worked with is moving on in years has some mental handicapps and an aging dog. The owner, (I'll call her M) has a small breed dog 12yrs old. I have helped them since I started working in this field. I started out walking the dog a couple times a week every couple of months. And about 18months ago M had surgery on their eyes and I began feeding and walking the dog. Part of this dynamic is that every few months they have a bad go of things and I get the burnt of frustration, hurt (emotional and mental) along with the degree of their physical pain verbally thrown at me. I have my own mental challenges mainly anxiety, ADD/ADHD, and depression (treatment is a work in progress for myself). After each of these "episodes" I feel tremendous dread, anxiety, hesitation, and a great level of doubt mixed in with a fragile state of confidence. But each time about 5 to date I have attempted to work through them, things even out then another episode. Important additional information: been feeding the dog since the start of the year when M had a medical emergency. (2x daily, with short walks weekends included)
This last one, I had a flexible schedule for the day (Saturday) and M has always had a window of time for me to be there in. Was with another client dog on a longer walk and thought I had committed with M that my timing for the day may be a bit different than what we normally planned. I get done with the walk to see I didn't actually send the message. I communicated then that I was on my way. From one client to the other is about 40 minutes with good traffic. I got to M's house an hour after when I would normally be there. I enter and see M struggling to prepare dinner for the dog. I ask if M would like me to take over along with the first of 4 apologies. I did, then walked the dog as usual. Was asked by M to come talk, so I sat with them. Where I was burated/scolded for my conduct for 10 minutes, then went to bring up my over all character and ethics. Some things that M said are as follows " I don't pretend to know your ethics and how to tend to run your business, but I am disappointed and feel violated by your conduct" and " I don't care about my comfort but when my dog becomes uncomfortable and is verbally expressing their need to go out I can't condone it" and i quote "I am fragile and not mentally able and to feel taken advantage of, is unacceptable". M continues on in the same tone. Spaced in between these comments I apologize, owning the fact that "I should have called or confirmed that my message went through. That I can only aim to be better, learn from this situation and that sometimes us humans make mistakes but all we can do is learn and move forward". M then states " I am unsure if I feel comfortable with continuing with you or finding someone else would be better. I don't have many friends that are able to help me and I have come to depend on you. I am dying and need more consistency in my life." I responded "I am sorry to have you feeling this way, but you need to do what you need to for yourself and your companion. I feel that given your tone and phrasing that you have made your decision and I will respect it and no longer have you as a client. With this said I need to leave for my next meeting." I received a message from M the following day asking me "If I could come gather a sample for their upcoming vet appointment. That they are sorry for being harsh and disrespectful. That they have no one else to help and that they hope we can possibly talk about continuing on with me providing care for their dog." I responded "that I no longer feel comfortable with being a provider for their dog, that I don't feel safe in the environment. However if she needs the assistance that I will be there for the dog, they have done nothing wrong. But I will administer care and be promptly leaving." M respected my response, but the day of my being there asks about "the usual walk and feed on Saturday this week." I responded with " I will get back to you, I have another meeting in 40 minutes."
My family says that I made a situation worse, that I was unprofessional and that M's mental health was negatively impacted.. I'm not saying that they are wrong about the mental health part.. but where does my happiness, mental health, and overall well-being come into consideration?
Was I unprofessional and at my wits end or did I protect myself? Could I have handled this better?

My beautiful ex broke up with me last Sunday because I violated a very important boundary of her to not flirt with a girl that I had a flirty past with before we were officially together. I was busy with a lot of things on my trip to visit my family in India, and wasn’t able to give her much updates or attention due to the time difference between India and US. I would text her, share a lot of pictures from my day when I could and sometimes Facetime her
I truly had no sexual intentions with this girl, literally zero, I was trying to buy some w**d from her as she had contacts, and due to our schedules the plans fell through
She then invited me to her place before my trip ended to which my dumbass said “Well that’s just dangerous 😏” She replied, I’m not alone, and I just 👍🏽 her reply, end of conversation
I 100% intended to show this convo to her once I got back to US
When she found out about this, she didn’t confront me directly, but was asking about my stance on if flirting is cheating and I agreed if the intentions were sexual.
She kept on asking if I did anything wrong or something for which she would be reacting like this, even asked if it was about Instagram DMs, but she still was being vague about the confrontation. She said she was heartbroken because I didn’t answer her straight and made her think like I didn’t do anything wrong
Once she confronted me like this, I immediately got defensive and felt ashamed to be seen like this, went back and forth and asked her more details, which she didn’t say much about
On our facetime call, she asked me to explain and I did twist the facts by saying I turned that girl down when she invited me over(still feeling shame), after which she read out the messages and was more pissed and hurt about it
She shared all of this with her family(sister and brother in law)
She said she is breaking up with me, I apologized a lot and convinced her not to break up and give this another shot and I said I’ll be more honest and transparent about anything and accepted the fact that she won’t be that affectionate and will need time, I agreed
For two weeks, she wasn’t texting that much, and was just replying to my texts, I thought this was her less affectionate self & she’s taking time to let her emotions settle
But then I found out that she created a Tinder account the same day when she found out about it, signed for sex chat rooms and shared nudes there, some of which she forwarded me also, and some of which she took at my apartment
I was very hurt and felt betrayed but was also guilty that I also was not fully loyal because of that message sent her
I asked her to tell me about what all she did and after long facetime calls, agreed to work on being honest with each other and came to a compromise
From here Our conversations after this got very wild and she also wanted us to play with another girl, which I agreed to after confirming with her multiple times. We also talked about going on dates and I bought tickets to an event
While all this was happening, in parallel her family and her were also talking about breaking up with me, over exxagerated many facts about me, and she agreed and didn’t defend and made it seem like she was trying to break up with me but was finding it difficult to do so and stayed at my place too, because she was missing me and was also taking care of my cat. I found out about this after I came back and she was showing only a few messages from the converdation with her family, more on this later
I missed my flight that night and got another flight early next morning. While I was at the hotel, The night before reaching my place, she said she feels a little emotionally detached from me and has mixed feelings about what had happened and what also was in the mix of this was, there was some miscommunication between her sister me and my ex during Christmas and that was still unresolved and they thought I was manipulated and gaslighting, which wasn’t even the case
We talked about her feelings, clarified about the miscommunicTion and assured her that I will talk to her family and sort this out
Its Tuesday morning, she picked me up from the airport, had a small welcome gift and hand written message set up on my coffee table, which I loved
We went out on a dinner date in the middle of the week, were spending time with each other, this is when I found out about her conversation with her family and I confronted her about it asking why she was lying to them about our break up. She said she also had facetime calls with them and she probably told them that she didnt break up with me. I told her to be honest about the situation with her family, to which she sent out a big Message to her family saying she lied to them and she broke their trust and made it sound like I was a saint and everything was her fault
Mind you her family was still asking when she is going break up with me
I spoke to their family to clear up the previous miscommunicationsand also briefly spoke about the disconnect between our texts and their texts. Her sister said she will talk to my ex one on one about this. We woke up next morning, she spoke to her sister while I was getting ready to o head out. I sat down with her to talk about their discussion, she said they went all the way back and verified what she lied about, and then she dropped it on me that she wants to break up, she doesnt want to go through the emotional pain again and wont be able to trust me

I have this childhood bestfriend who got married last January. I know their story. Like how it all started, as i was their bridge. I was their consultant. I was ok with all the dramas. Im close to her husband also so they keep me posted with their ups and downs. I just keep my lines open whenever they need me. So when they decided to get married Im THE MAID OF HONOR(literal na maid). Motif.,Dress code, Venue, Reception, Etc.Big and small details she would ask me.She would ask for help whenever she needs to and i find time to help even after work. Customer support is one of those boring areas nobody is passionate about, but it's super important. It is part of almost any business.
I always feel competent when doing it because I have seen the inside of the big boys, and I wanted to give that insight forward.
Lessons from a leading CX company on Customer Support Tickets
The core belief is that good customer support will leave your client with a better relationship to your brand after having a problem.
Any opportunity to get time with the client is an opportunity to build trust.
It is also a key moment of judgement for your client.
They are often thinking: “I don't know if I'm too happy with these guys”
It is now on you to prove them otherwise, and with vigor!
What I share might be basic stuff for some, but I still wanted to forward what I've learned.
I always wonder how companies with big data structure things myself.
Key values:
Get back to the client immediately and keep response times quick while making them feel understood.
Only use neutral or positively loaded words and train staff on what those are.
Gauge client frustration and the size of their issue and prioritise the most upset (good to know on the customer end of things)
Script:
“Hello (their name)
Thank you for reaching out to (Add Brand) customer support”
Note: Always thank them, even if they call you a terrible company full of worms. You add your brand as a long term play to establish who they are building a relationship with.
“I understand that you are having...(restate their exact problem so they feel understood while using positive language)”
Note: Needing to feel understood is a large part of good customer support. They know intrinsically that problems are a thing of the world, and their emotionality is often linked to wanting their frustration validated. Good de-escalation will de-link you as the problem and make you the problem solving hero instead. Notice that you talk as a person to person using ‘I’ to make the experience seem personalised. ‘We’ is used when describing company values and ‘I’ when dealing with the situation.
Continuing: After looking at how to-the-point and emotional the message is, you now follow up with a statement of intent with or without sympathy.
“I will put our team on it right away” <- how you respond to a short sentenced businessman
For longer messages where the user is more emotional:
“I am sorry to hear… - describe their reality with the details that they provided due to the lack of your product/service working."
“We of course want you to.. (describe ideal situation of having a customer relationship with them) "
Eg. “I am sorry to hear that your camping trip was cut short due to your car not charging. We of course want you and your family to go on any adventure your heart leads you to with your electric Lada. 🚗🏔”
You mirror their emoji usage, erring on the side of low use.
The support reps were trained to pick the tickets based on their personality matching. The solution-based types dealt with those customers, the relationship-based people did the longer emotional emoji ones.
Intent statement like with the businessman is given after sympathy.
“I will make sure we get this handled for you right away.”
The urgency part of the statement ‘right away’ can be replaced with what the customer presents as their key value.

Lessons from a leading CX company on Customer Support Tickets
The core belief is that good customer support will leave your client with a better relationship to your brand after having a problem.
Any opportunity to get time with the client is an opportunity to build trust.
It is also a key moment of judgement for your client.
They are often thinking: “I don't know if I'm too happy with these guys”
It is now on you to prove them otherwise, and with vigor!
What I share might be basic stuff for some, but I still wanted to forward what I've learned.
I always wonder how companies with big data structure things myself.
Key values:
Get back to the client immediately and keep response times quick while making them feel understood.
Only use neutral or positively loaded words and train staff on what those are.
Gauge client frustration and the size of their issue and prioritise the most upset (good to know on the customer end of things)
Script:
“Hello (their name)
Thank you for reaching out to (Add Brand) customer support”
Note: Always thank them, even if they call you a terrible company full of worms. You add your brand as a long term play to establish who they are building a relationship with.
“I understand that you are having...(restate their exact problem so they feel understood while using positive language)”
Note: Needing to feel understood is a large part of good customer support. They know intrinsically that problems are a thing of the world, and their emotionality is often linked to wanting their frustration validated. Good de-escalation will de-link you as the problem and make you the problem solving hero instead. Notice that you talk as a person to person using ‘I’ to make the experience seem personalised. ‘We’ is used when describing company values and ‘I’ when dealing with the situation.
Continuing: After looking at how to-the-point and emotional the message is, you now follow up with a statement of intent with or without sympathy.
“I will put our team on it right away” <- how you respond to a short sentenced businessman
For longer messages where the user is more emotional:
“I am sorry to hear… - describe their reality with the details that they provided due to the lack of your product/service working."
“We of course want you to.. (describe ideal situation of having a customer relationship with them) "
Eg. “I am sorry to hear that your camping trip was cut short due to your car not charging. We of course want you and your family to go on any adventure your heart leads you to with your electric Lada. 🚗🏔”
You mirror their emoji usage, erring on the side of low use.
The support reps were trained to pick the tickets based on their personality matching. The solution-based types dealt with those customers, the relationship-based people did the longer emotional emoji ones.
Intent statement like with the businessman is given after sympathy.
“I will make sure we get this handled for you right away.”
The urgency part of the statement ‘right away’ can be replaced with what the customer presents as their key value.

This is honestly a bit of a sad story, as my friend was in a hostile relationship. Let’s call her Gem.
Leading up to my wedding Gem (who was a bridesmaid and my best friend of 20+ years) disappeared because she had a new boyfriend. From day one of her telling me about him he was jealous and accusatory of her talking to other men. They had known each other for years but reconnected and immediately got serious. He immediately made her delete friends that were men and insinuated that she was being slutty before she was with him. I saw this as a red flag right away and tried to tell her that he had no business knowing anything about her past if she didn’t want to tell him specially so soon into a relationship.
Over the months leading up to my wedding there were many more red flags but I tried hard to be ok with it. My fianće and I went to dinner with them and her bf seemed funny. But Gem blew me off a lot. We barely talked and I didn’t have much help with wedding stuff. I did mostly on my own. I tried not to hold this against her. At dinner I had asked if he wanted to come to the reception. But I specified that Gem would be busy and sitting at the head table. He laughed it off and said it was fine. He didn’t need to come.
On the day before my wedding, her bf was nowhere to be found in the morning when he was supposed to be giving her a ride to my city an hour away. She called me crying causing a bunch of stress. We had a rehearsal dinner that night and then my mom was spending the night with me and Gem and my daughter at our house, while my fianće and the boys were at his dad’s.

I searched all internet and no one seems to have published anything about this particular type of message. They just mysteriously appear when new page in internet browser loads, but they appear randomly, not always but very often still. The websites change all the time but the message is always the same: "0" - zero. What is most annoying is they are not usually possible to just click away by clicking the "OK" button. It either seems to do nothing or the popup blinks as if it reloads or tries to do something but stays anyway and blocks access to the page itself. It goes away usually after switching to other browser tabs and then clicking the button again, but just as with how they pop up, they are not even possible to get rid of with one consistent process. There is no regularity and consistency, no guaranteed way to make them appear, to make them go away, the behave completely irregular. Even now that I wanted to provide more detailed observation, it surprised me again that I wasn't able to manifest them suddenly, but I suspect they will start appearing again when I do not want it. So all I can say further is that they were appearing both in Chrome and Edge, the only browsers I was using on this freshly installed computer for now. I have a new Windows 11 Pro installation. I of course installed series of security updates and various desktop applications so I can't say exactly what might be causing it. Is it some bug in some of the apps or is it some virus, malware or just spam intruding and possibly being imperfectly stopped by some other application, I have no idea and no one seems to know anything. He's talented asf, I love him, he looks so cool with those long hair and red eyes of him, he knows how many sides an octagon has unlike Hajime, he knows how to deal with Junko, he's awesome and I love his hair, he got his own cute little spot in the villains wiki, 91 cm, he's logical and thinks with his brain, not by heart, Kamukura Kamukura Yas Queen, he wins every stare contest easily, He's named after the founder of Hope's Peak Academy, he's so relatable and he likes boats and seacrafts just like me, he manages to look cool everytime, his design in the anime is perfect, his happy pixel in the villains wiki is adorable, he's the right one for me I'll never stop loving him, he has all the talents, I find it funny how he thinks talented people are superior to the ones without talent and how he doesn't hesitate to express his disgust towards them, he does that in a polite way, I love how excited he got from the boat's rocking because he couldn't predict it and didn't understand that he was in a boat until Nagito told him that, I find it so relatable that he finds everything boring and predictable to a degree that he's chronically bored, he is in a search of identity as well, I love how he easily blocked Mukuro's attack and how he easily dodged Junko's attacks, he's so fricking cool. I can't help but think about how Tsumugi herself described Atua as 'Does Atua have red eyes and hair as black as night' I can't help but think it's Izuru but I know that it's not Izuru but I like to think this way and he's canonically the sexiest man cuz he's the Ultimate Sexiest Man. I love him. Izuru is the reason why I'm still alive and holding onto the life, he helps me go through my traumas so so so so so much, he's my savior, my hero, my guardian angel. If he wasn't there, I wouldn't be there, too. He's the best thing happened to me. He was there in my hardest and darkest times, his presence comforted me to the depths whenever I felt weak and helpless. Why i like Izuru???
I like Izuru because he's a very smart and OP character but we couldn't see much of him. To be transparent, I have been trying to get some more Chinese and Annamnese (Vietnamnese) coins in the near future, so I have to offload some of my stuff to get towards my collecting goals.
