Hi everyone, I’m a junior in undergrad that wants to go to med school next. I know applications are coming up soon and I was kind of worried about the whole “15 spots” thing. I’m gonna tell you guys what I have so far after finishing up my sophomore year, please tell me what you think.
Optometry Tech and receptionist, pharmacy tech, MA (doing this now), interventional Caridology ENT and pediatrics shadowing, tutoring in Palestine, math tutor for college and elementary students, ESL volunteer tutor, honors program, insurance claims and GPS coordinator for vehicles, and I’m starting research this fall of my junior year.
Also, ik people say to include hobbies too. I was thinking of putting my favorite show to rewind too (golden girls) and the fact that I’ve lived abroad (Jordan and Palestine), and how I went to school there when I was young (3rd grade Palestine; 8-10th Jordan) and how those cultural experiences shaped me.
I’m also learning Spanish and fluent in Arabic, but idk if I should include that.
Can I please get your alls thoughts as to if it matters to include information in all 15 spots? And some things you guys included too, I’m looking for med students to answer.

I’d love to hear from students who opted out of all NYC standardized testing between 3rd and 8th grade. Did this impact your HS application / preparation / selection process at all? Are there any tests you would recommend NOT opting out of for whatever reason? I’m thinking ahead to elementary and middle school choices and there are a few that are “opt out” (unranked) schools, so I’m wondering where most of those students end up for HS. TIA!

2024.05.16 01:16 dbout01 The Rexburg Recession

After being here for almost 2 years and the recent events that transpired with enrollment numbers, I created this. I use the term “recession” loosely because it can either be economic or academic. Let me know that your thoughts are, past & current students. Feedback is highly encouraged.
Here’s why Rexburg, more specifically the university, will face issues soon:
Inflation * Apartment prices have risen exponentially (ex: $1200+fees to $1500+fees) creating strain on people who typically pay for housing themselves. This is making people stay home to work and save up for housing, often missing multiple semesters which reflects poorly on semester enrollment stats. * The inflation has also affected the wealth disparity. Most normal apartments are reaching the price points of luxury housing like NorthPoint and The Cove. This results in lower-earning families & students working or doing a trade instead of school.
Decline of living standards * Almost all student apartments in Rexburg have inept management and maintenance, often resulting in broken appliances, carpets, etc. and the companies that own the apartments could care less. This is probably due to the lax tenant laws in Idaho. * That the decline of living standards results in more people who don’t take care of their apartment because they don’t have incentives to do so.
Enrollment * More people are opting to take online classes because it’s considerably cheaper than in-person classes, which results in fewer in-person numbers. * The students in Rexburg provide the majority of income for big and small businesses alike. These places will begin losing money. Only places like Walmart will survive as they have the best prices in town. * Administration at BYU-Idaho are very concerned and multiple meetings have been held on how to improve enrollment numbers. The General Authorities actually want the campus to do something because it’s gotten that bad.
BYU * Updated their enrollment cap, which means that more people in Rexburg will be moving to Provo, or not even going to Rexburg in the first place, because they have a greater chance of being accepted.
Trends I expect to see * Fall Semester 2024 will have historically low attendance numbers for the typically busiest semester, and continue into the next academic year. * More people will be either working or attending different schools, with the main one being BYU Provo. * As the wealth disparity becomes greater, there will either: normal people who can afford $1800/semester or nerds. Normal people will be taking Business classes and nerds will be taking STEM classes. * Less and less people will be attending due to worse housing conditions, and companies will get desperate and try to lure people in by having promotions & sales, which will ultimately fail. * Prepare to see the number of people who play Dungeons and Dragons increase by 73% by 2026.
Other Observations * Rexburg is gaining residents who are moving from out-of-state but also losing students. As the number of students drop and out-of-state move-ins grow, the town will have no choice but to adapt and make changes. A short 5 years ago you wouldn’t find a legit coffee shop in Rexburg and within the next year they’ll be over a dozen places that offer coffee. * As for infrastructure, they’re improving the main intersections and highway exits anticipating future growth, but not for students. * A new temple is being built, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the students population is growing in numbers. This is simply people moving in from out-of-state.
Long-Term Predictions * While I don’t definitely know what’ll happen to the campus itself, we can surmise several things: * Tuition & fees will be raised because of the lack of students helping fund campus operations. This can be a 3%-8% increase, depending on department & college. Lately, the new President has made sure this won’t happen, but will have no other choice soon to protect the assets of the church. * The focus of big-earning stores in Rexburg will shift their focus to new residents rather than the students. * BYU-Idaho will still exist, but with very few degree offerings (half the numbers of what they have now) and most of the opportunity will be in Provo. Department budgets and course offerings will be slashed in-half and specific departments will be combined, much like the CIT/CSE departments. * It will become akin to a community college and nearly lose is accreditation. This will be the case in 4-6 years. * BYU-Idaho exists because the church has put a lot of money into it and it’s literally an investment. * Within the next 3 years, the school will experience an unprecedented amount of single students as the married students graduate and leave. This will lead to more incentives to date & marry. This has been evidenced by the recent Date Nights all CES campuses have hosted. This will continue to happen every semester.

I just finished my junior year of undergrad and am chem major and biology minor. I put in a lot of work and am really hoping it pays off with financial compensation.
Plz feel free to suggest personal statement or secondary app essay idea, scholarships based off any of this info, etc. It would be so so so appreciated!!!
  1. My GPA is an 3.88 & my prereq gpa for UHCO is a 3.97. I’ve received one B (1hr lab) in my major and one in a biology course (3hrs). Outside of STEM I have 3 B’s in core class I took my senior year of HS. We went virtual near midterms bc covid and I did not have a laptop/computer, wifi, nor cell service (I live in rural area). I finished the course w my phone and public wifi from the town 15 min over.
  2. I will graduate in Spring ‘25 with my American Chemical Association accreditation (ACS). It’s ensure chem degree of academic rigor.
  3. I have 80+ hours of undergraduate research and enrolled in a Summer Research Experience (SRE). A summer 2 class w 30hrs/week of research. There are future conferences like ACS & other symposiums to ensure proper scientific communication.
  4. I have 300+ volunteer hours. Earned from serving my church, volunteer orgs, MD Anderson Cancer Treatment camp councilor, rep for chem at recruitment fairs, being in student panals, etc.
  5. I have been apart of 3 orgs & officers of 2: A non profit organization for drunk driving (we volunteer from 9PM to 3AM offering free rides to intoxicated students, kinda like free Uber) for 2 years, an honor society association for 3 years, and a Christian org for 3 years. I was treasurer for the non profit org for a year. I am currently the vice president of my christian org and have been for a year, I got promoted from treasurer which I held for a year as well .
  6. I’m in my schools honors college and of have taken the honors section of gen chem I/II w lab, & intro to stats. I’ve also honors contracted advanced inorganic & biochemistry. My honors GPA is a 4.0.
  7. I was a tutor for the Academic Assistance and Resource Assistance (AARC) at my university. This program is regionally & nationally accredited. The tutors can only be selected by profs & to have ITTP certifications. I have tutored Intro to Stats and Calc I & II for 2 years. Team Lead for Calc Math for a year. I was later recommended to tutored both sections of gen & o chem and have been for a year.
  8. I was asked to TA gen chem I & II lab. I have done so for a year. I was also asked to be a TA for o chem I lab. I accepted and was asked to continue to next section but couldn’t (bc scheduling conflicts).
  9. I have about 35 hours of shadowing from varying specialties of optometry and a few from ophthalmologist.
  10. I am taking my OAT in mid July
  11. I don’t think HS stuff matters but I was class Historian & had many academic achievements and a lot of service hours. (I went to a small rural 1A HS w/ only 29 in grad class. I just barely made top 10% as 3rd ranked)
  12. I’ve gotten academic awards/scholarships for things like service hours, good gpa, chemistry, honors colleges, etc. Some of which are only granted based off recommendations.
*To simplify it, so far I’ve been a full time student (~15 hrs), working two jobs (Tutoring & TA) whilst being in two officer position w/ two dif orgs. I then worked hard and got another job offer and a promotion (Tutoring Team Lead & TA (gen chem and o chem)) on top of the previously mentioned responsibilities.
SUMMARY: (The part that I actually need advise on)
 All this to be said, I am first gen college student from an ‘economically disadvantaged’ family of 7, I have had 4 siblings (2M & 2F) who’ve all tried college and have flunked out. In Spring ‘25 I will be the first person from either side of my family to earned a bachelors. (My dad never finished HS and none of my grandparents even finished middle school). I primarily worked so hard to eleviate some financial requirements for my eduction. I even took my senior year of HS and freshmen year of college simultaneously to save money. I found a passion for optometry/eye care due to having refractive and strabismic amblyopia from 8y/o to 16y/o until I got corrective surgery.
I top pick is UHCO but I am applying to both optom schools in tx and the one in oklahoma. I hate to have put in all this work for no compensation and am curious as what to do?

As in the case of the Department of Peace, the former departments are slated to remain at a sub-cabinet level, and the efforts of opposition forces have successfully left the proposed integrations largely on paper for the time being.
On the level of sub-cabinet departments, the Bureau of Investigation has been merged with the Office of Strategic Services to form the National Security Agency (NSA), an intelligence agency combining the foreign and domestic. Meanwhile, an executive order would begin the National Aeronautics and Space Administration with former President Charles Lindbergh appointed as its first head, however, Lindbergh would soon be dismissed as a part of the executive’s compromise with congress’s impeachers, with businessman Howard Hughes taking his place.

Foreign Policy:
-President La Follette has found rare common ground with the opposition on matters of foreign policy towards the Soviet Union, echoing Arthur Vandenberg’s declaration that “politics ends at the water’s edge.” The Administration has secured funding for the rebuilding of Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and Korea under social democratic anti-communist governments, with President La Follette describing the initiatives as building an “iron curtain” against communism.
-President La Follette’s term would see the death of two of the world’s premier foreign leaders: Marshall Philippe Petain of France and Chinese General Feng Yuxiang. President La Follette would visit Paris in 1951 for the funeral of Petain after nearly four decades in power, having hailed the French publicly as future allies in the battle with communism. Yet, already suspicious of the new government of Petain protege Charles De Gaulle after the leaking of America’s role in Smedley Butler’s assassination by Ambassador Gaston-Henry Haye, La Follette would find himself increasingly disenchanted with the French, with private reports indicating his horror at the mass deportation of Flemish, Germans, and Catalans into the French Congo from areas in Europe newly annexed into France.
-However, the President would nonetheless side with the French-supported Roman Legion rebelling against Greece in 1951, marking the creation of the Republic of the Pindus as the first state for the Aromanian people in world history. However, the new state has been accused of engaging in the ethnic cleansing of the Greek population.
-Meanwhile, touring China after the death of Feng Yuxiang, La Follette would become increasingly worried about the possible alignment of the nation towards the Soviet Union and controversially refuse to return the island of Taiwan to China until the election of a successor to Feng. With Communist leader Zhou Enlai rising in popularity and an election planned, American support would be thrown behind former warlord Yan Xishan, who would be selected President by the National Assembly in January of 1951 and promptly announce an indefinite delay on elections. Despite rising tensions with China’s Bolshevik-backed Communist Party, La Follette would sign a treaty of return in February of 1952 relinquishing Taiwan to Chinese control. However, after six decades of intense Japanization under colonial authorities, Taiwan has found itself culturally isolated from the rest of China, speaking almost entirely Japanese and Hokkien rather than Mandarin.
-A similar issue has emerged on the formerly Japanese territories of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. Owing to their close location to the Soviet Union, La Follette has authorized it as the site of dozens of American nuclear tests throughout his term and refused to cede sovereignty, with China, Japan, and Russia all harboring alternate claims to the islands.
-The President has impounded funds from the 1950 and 1951 budgets passed by Congress to distribute for the reconstruction of American allies and occupied regions in the Third Pacific War, enacting the MacArthur Plan without the authorization of Congress and repeating to Chinese Premier Yan Xishan his famous remark that “vermin are infesting and polluting democratic organizations and the government itself.”
-Working with the Latin American and East Asian nations in the American sphere of influence in the aftermath of the Franco-British Conflict, the President has moved the United States into the new Parliament of Nations headquartered in Rome, sending New Hampshire Progressive Senator Robert P. Bass as the first United States Representative to the largely powerless global body intended to facilitate global cooperation. Notably, however, the La Follette Administration has resisted efforts to include communist-aligned nations into the fold despite the membership of many French-aligned authoritarian regimes and absolute monarchies such as the Ethiopian Empire or the Caliphate.
-1951 would see the formalization of the Treaty of San Diego, officially ending the United States occupation of Japan, and with it La Follette's rule by decree of the islands, while maintaining an American military presence on the island chain and transferring to American control the Ryukyu Islands, Iwo Jima, Samoa, and the Japanese stake in the Nicaraguan Canal shared with Argentina, where former Milford W. Howard associate Harold Lord Varney has been appointed as High Commissioner.
-President La Follette held a summit with Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie, and Madagascar Prime Minister Joseph Raseta in 1951 to commemorate the longstanding American support for independent nations in Africa, hosting, among others, independence activists Seretse Khama of Botswana, Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya, and Hastings Banda of Nyasaland. Further, American jazz artist Andy Razaf has taken the throne as King of Madagascar following the lack of an heir apparent to deceased Queen Marie-Louise, however, unfamiliar with the island of his ancestors, the newly-crowned Andriamanantena I has been sidelined by Prime Minister Raseta.
-With rumors of Lazar Kaganovich planning Bolshevik expansion into Central Asia abounding, President La Follette and Secretary of Peace Dill would issue a joint statement in January of 1952 promising American opposition “by any means necessary” to “one more inch” of Bolshevik expansion, with Dill describing Kaganovich’s policy towards France and the United States as “trying to play both sides against the middle.”

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza — especially the extraordinary loss of lives and widespread starvation of civilians, including children — is heartbreaking. We join the calls by national and international leaders for a ceasefire that will include an end to military operations, the release of the hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7, and a surge of humanitarian aid for Palestinians and all people in Gaza — with the goal of achieving a lasting peace.
As you may be aware, groups of student and non-student protestors set up an unauthorized tent encampment in the Quad on our Seattle campus more than two weeks ago. The encampment involves a small fraction of our 50,000 students and of our 700-acre campus. The space initially did not substantially disrupt the learning, activities and operations of our University. Some of our largest events, including a night market, Engineering Discovery Days and a Meany performance for elementary and high school students from across the city and state, were joyously celebrated on campus. Nonetheless, some of the rhetoric and language used in chants and signs within the Quad and at protests, while protected speech, was and is vile and antisemitic.
I strongly support the right of protected free expression and understand that protest by its very nature is structured to be uncomfortable and bring attention to a cause. Institutions of higher education have been at the center of important social and political movements through the course of history. I also know that this issue is deeply personal to many in our community and, in many cases, is not only a matter of political perspective but of their core identity.
Consistent with our long-standing commitment to dialogue with students during protest actions, we believe that engaging in dialogue is the most productive path to a resolution that can see the encampment voluntarily depart. Indeed, even before the encampment started, we were meeting with a cross section of students who are deeply moved by the humanitarian crisis.
University leaders, including myself, have held multiple, ongoing discussions with representatives of the encampment to find common ground with the expectation that the encampment peacefully and voluntarily disband. We have been consistently clear we will not engage in an academic boycott of Israel or “cut all ties” with Boeing. Both run counter to academic freedom, a core value of the academy. We’ve made clear there is an established Board of Regents process for endowment divestment decisions. We had them meet with a member of the University of Washington Investment Management Company (UWINCO), and we let them know that we have no direct investments in Boeing or weapons manufacturers. We’ve also heard their concerns about support for Palestinian and other Muslim and Middle Eastern students, and offered tangible actions to improve our campus culture and deepen our commitment to their education.
We have engaged sincerely and openly. The representatives of the encampment have presented a series of changing and escalating demands, including most recently demanding the creation of a new department that would have an “anti-Zionist” litmus test for faculty hiring; granting a student group oversight of awarding new, religion-based University scholarships; and a blanket amnesty for all violations of the law and student code, including not solely camping, among other demands. Many of these demands, especially the most recent, are contrary to academic freedom and/or to state or federal law.
This morning our campus community arrived to their classrooms and work spaces to see offensive graffiti across multiple buildings all over campus, some quite clearly both antisemitic and violent, creating an unwelcome and fearful environment for many students, faculty and staff, especially those who are Jewish. Much to my dismay, given the relatively cordial tone of many of our discussions, the representatives also said the new graffiti is an intentional escalation to compel the University to agree to their demands.
While I strongly support free speech and peaceful protest, I also strongly support the rights of all our community members to live, learn and work without fear. I want to thank our Office of Campus Community Safety, UW Facilities and state and local partners for supporting our community despite challenging circumstances, including two very tense counter-protests. But every day the encampment remains, safety concerns escalate for our UW community and for the people in the encampment itself. We again call on members to dismantle the encampment voluntarily for everyone’s safety, end the vandalism to our campus and continue constructive engagement with us on the issues of concern.
I have been a member of this community for nearly forty years. This is my home and my extended family. I have always led through engagement. The situation now is untenable. I’ll reiterate: The University’s response to students’ calls for change will not be based on an encampment — there are many ways for voices to be heard that don’t require tents, violent rhetoric and vandalism. Change will be through constructive engagement on issues that are important and meaningful to our students and broader campus community.

I'm wondering if any parents of students at this elementary have heard about the increase in extreme behaviors and lack of discipline from administrators for repeated violence and bullying of staff and students. I'm hearing a lot of chatter from my kids about the chaotic environment they are currently learning in and lack of accountability for kids that are creating the unsafe space. They tell me me about violent outbursts from students who are then essentially rewarded and brought right back to class. I'm just wondering if any other parents have had or heard about similar experiences and wondering if there's action that could be taken to help create a better environment for our children. We absolutely love the teachers so I don't think they are at fault, but it seems to be coming from the principal and dean and their lack of understanding for the school districts policy on such things or lack of interest in implementing these policies at the school building.

I work at a small private school and we need to choose a new POS system for our elementary cafeteria and MS/HS grub hub. Every system we have looked is way too involved for what we want. As a private school, we are not looking at imputing individual items with ingredients and other health info. It doesn't even need to be food specific really. We just want a simple solution where parents can load money onto a student's account and they can use it to purchase with. Anybody out there have any ideas?

The night deepen, while the sea tide sang its own song of breathing. Some time passed, and then on the stranger showed himself approaching at the distance. I waved my hand at him, and after the instant, he found his way into my bench while I welcomed him with an extended fist which he casually bumped - after the short acknowledgement the dark alien looked at my face in between it's cover of dark, and looking at it undiscernable in its true features, with suspicion asked.

Such made sense to me, for I myself was the INTJ, and had at spirit the ESFP. Him. So where as this man chased the spiritual fulfillment of being a complex and deep individual, I chased the fulfillment of becoming simpler, so I could demonstrate with action the deepest desires of my heart. One who was born plentiful in means to be liked, becomes complex, mysterious and uncomprehended, meeting one who will be seen trying to make sense becoming simpler. For Carl Jung portrayed the anima and animus of individuals, as the sense of what its absent, yet deeply cherished an valued. So I said these things to the alien, while he silently listened to me.
— All of that sounds like bullshit to me. -Said the alien after some contemplation .— Sorry but the things you say, don't mean anything to me.

The riptide sang, in its secret dialect of earth and sea. I looked upon the coast, turned an eye blind, and saw the ocean as the scorpio, and the land as the taurus; as it was the struggle between two lovers, never meant to consume each other. Ideal love then - yet not to confuse with this partnership as it was whimsilcally tied by the means in which i arranged my current conversation; for my lady somewhere waited for me. Then i allowed my eyes to rest still.
The alien looked upon me, undiscernable in my intentions, and again figured for himself that my interest towards him wasn’t clear. In suspicion, and after the moment he collected his thoughts asked “In your weird words you dubbed me performer, so what is it exactly that you wan’t from me. To me it seems like you are gathering people for some form of religious clown show. When you forced this meeting upon me, was this a proposal you thought i would find amusement in?”. And after the statement my own stare wandered in my conversation partner. While as he had his say, i returned to my can of beer, and finished it with a long gulp. Tempered in an unwillingness to fall to my new found friend irritation, i said within my own thoughts: “The alien looks easy going, but he is barbed in wit”.
Then i opened the can of beer that the stranger rejected; the loud pop resounded in the relative silence, interrupting for a moment the steady chorus of the sea. Gave it a long sip, and said.
– Theres no proposal in place yet. But im certain of something, and that is that both of us are messed individuals which reached the bottom doing the same thing - but the way my understandment of the human soul goes: two people can act by mere interaction as reactives to each other, creating a new chemical compound after the fact.

Corona, Indio, Victoria, Dos Equis, Heineken; you name it. I popped the can, and gave it a long and definite sip as i emptied it complete.
The alien didn't try to show that he understood, but stood still in silence, with his sight in the sand below and pressing lips, knowing by my demeanor; that these things as I've said them was something that I needed to do. Then he said: "I don't follow man. You say you preach and then disasters occur. Like a prophet from the bible?"
"Yes. Then I preached to get rid of the things that are actually making the world worse, and something awoke soon after, and since then; everything I do is subject to being misinterpreted due to the diffamatory action of this thing. Now everytime I do something, it can be twisted and turned against my original intent. Right now the hackers are my worst problem: I may have a degree in computers but I have no fucking idea whatsoever of hacking. I earn my living as an A.I engineer.".
The alien raised his sight to meet with mine, and after doing some contemplation on the fact, quite simply said: "You are insane". Then lowered his own sight, and raised it again to meet with the sea and continued. "If you want a tattoo, we can work that out. But either way and whatever parts of your story are true and even worse; the ones you may be lying about: you sound dangerous in a delusional kind of sense, and my life is hard enough as is."
I pressed my fists, knowing then the old same thing had happened again. For I had never forced anything upon anybody, and I was willing to respect that until the bitter end. Then I released the build up of frustration with a loud sigh, and after this amend, I replied back.
"I understand and respect it. But let me just propose you that if you ever want to figure what is beyond life as it's lived by person who has never seen what is like to be someone you write a great story about; you can pin me, and I'll show you what's beyond that door. Give it some thought."
The alien; The Black Alien Project stayed there sitting, spechless but calm, almost expecting something else to be convinced about. But pointless, for i knew that nobody can be forced into anything without bringing a transgression into play – and i wasn’t one to taint myself in sin if it could be avoided. Not anymore.

I made the distance at steady pace walking along the shore, until i found a small group of pines in-between the liminal space of the beach and the land. I sat with one of the pines trunk behind my back, and drawed the Schizo Pills from my eternal supply of traveller goodies.
Quetiapine 100 mg, and Olanzapine 10 mg, i made a smaller fragment from the olanzapine pill, and swallowed both complete. As their side effects were concerned, they would soon knock me out of conscience, as this little ritual was my own way of calling the day complete – then i layed there, vigilant, waiting for my own drowsiness to claim me into sleep - but the Bird of Britan came flying from above, and stood besides me.

And as i pulled the imaginary trigger from the imaginary pistol, an imaginary arrow in the sky descended with a blaze of not so imaginary flames on the Bird of Britain, engulfing the little shit in heat, and making it’s body explode into a gore of scorched viscera. As if the bird was in a microwave oven. I inmediately gasped as the explosion was too close from where i was sitting - after the conmotion, stared at the red and burned stain in the floor, and left my sight rest there, as sleep finally found its way into my restless thoughts.
"No longer care for love unless it's between good friends”. Said to myself. There was certainly a migraine coming, but maybe my dreams would help convince it otherwise. And as far as the hoes were concerned, Furious Angels would be there for them. Like the Rob Dougan song.

Found my own mind after the slumber – asleep, then awake. I realized several hours passed - at least enough to wake up and witness the sun rise above the sea. But as for dreams, the light veil of their memories wasn't something to rely upon. But i did remember something, and it was some overtone in dread; an atmosphere of fear – and a kind of dread sustained in it’s inevitability by the urgency that builds upon dearth.
Now what exactly was it though? I couldn’t remember from my dreams, but ever since i falled to my own death i had always present in mind the future succesion of events that would follow when things started to go very wrong. Iran, the U.S, Israel - now whatever was it in the news; the outcome would be the same. A thousand more cuts to an already languishing economy. Make that corpse bleed, and then fall off a cliff.
As such things would be cooked, just as the bird of britain. The bird was still there though: just in pieces and roasted like the contents of a dropped KFC bucket would. But the little shit would return - as it always did. The economy? Not so much.
Yet i digress. None of the world circumstances mattered as far i was concerned – i had built a small and portable solar system to power my laptop, and my beer supply was well, infinite - i made myself sure that i had my needs covered whatever happened around me. Not tied to even a house for that matter. I incorporated myself and gave my back a stretch. The morning breeze coming from the sea evocated in my memories some time that had long passed – late childhood. I rejected those memories as they beared with them things i didnt wan’t to remember - then wen’t on as usual in my morning routine scrolling through my instagram feed, figuring if there were any new hoes to maybe motivate me into doing my God imposed labour.
Labour which was to either write, or to finish the House of Water — then after scrolling i did in fact saw a new hoe; i dropped a Faux Pas comment. Maybe she would play along, maybe not. Whatever. Sometimes I would put in a lot of effort to do a rhyme. But the effort depended on the insta-hoe in question. I know. Not the best of habits, but back in elementary school i was the kind of kid that would only get motivation when the girls in the classroom were present in physEd. And then i would run faster: whole lotta faster. Run Forrest! Run! Women love used to fuel me; and the habit sticked — and at the moment, i was kinda done with the idea of female trascendence. Would rely on their love, but not on their validation. Not like a simp. Fuck that.
Furthermore, what results did i demonstrably mustered after pursuing true egalitarianism and sharing it? Exactly. A bitch gonna do what a bitch gonna do, and so does the human female. After publishing the comment, I locked my phone and walked towards the highway, as i was planning to pay a visit to somebody long forgotten - I had kind of a schedule that i was going to follow, before taking the plane to Madrid and become hispanic Jon Snow from the walgreens Nightwatch.

2024.05.15 22:25 Jiinxx10 How do I deal with a language barrier with a new coworker when communication is practically the whole job?

I am in a team of a total of four people, working at an elementary school cafeteria where I am constantly communicating with everyone. I am what you call the "head" person in the cafeteria. I collaborate with all teachers, students, principal etc. I'm basically the person everyone comes to for things. When my old coworker had to leave, I was part of the interview process for finding a new coworker. We interviewed several people and I had no concerns with any of the other candidates. But they decided to hire the ONE person I said was going to be hard to communicate with because they speak broken English. I had already voiced my concern heavily about this before they hired them because this job is very fast paced and I wanted someone who could communicate with the kids. Admin said they'd check her references to make sure she'll be okay, well..... I've been working with her and it's not okay.
You're constantly having to talk to people all the time, dealing with kid's issues, talking to the teachers, counselors, parents etc. Don't get me wrong, this person is very sweet and I have nothing against them, but it's making my job (and my other two coworker's job) stressful and she's refusing to do certain things and will let things slide because she, and I quote, "doesn't understand." Everyday it's always "I don't understand you deal with this. I didn't understand them. I don't know what they are saying," and she will come get me to do the job for her, or ask the same question three times because she doesn't understand.
I've been in my job for four years now and I hate to leave, but I don't know how to go about bringing this up with anyone. I'm at a loss on what to do, because part of me knows she can't help it, but on the other hand... she can't do the job correctly because she doesn't understand, even if it's explained several times. I worked with someone last year who could speak two languages, but their English was wonderful. I've never been in a situation like this where I can't communicate with a coworker because they don't know enough English.

Hey everybody, im new here but wamted to seek some advice. I’m 19 years old and I currently work as a after school coach for elementary students and am finishing this school year. I also run my own party rental business that i started in the beginning of the year,renting out supplies every weekend, and with summer coming up hopefully more often. My mom also runs her own bakery business, and i help make custom treat packages here at home. My point of all this is, i want to start another business with money ive been saving up, and since im already going to peoples house with my party rental business, i thought a pressure washing business would be great to make more money.
Should i focus on building my party rental business while having the treat side gig or bite the bullet and invest into pressure washing?

I need some leadership EC ideas that look impressive on college application.
I’m a freshman in the US, I’m going to do a job interview later this week, plan to take 6-8 AP classes throughout HS, play Tennis for my school but not really good at it (for now, maybe I’ll be some a star somehow lol) planning to do something medical related but for sure STEM.
Asian, not first gen, I think my family makes somewhere around 70-100k a year. Female (if that even matters).
I’m in a really good non funded youth group out of school where we have meetings, plan big events in the community, and volunteer. Plan to get two seals of billeteracy. Plan to do something in the science fair every year (didn’t do this year I forgot lol), do spirit week etc (student appreciation) at my school.
Next year I plan to join the medical science club, DECA (I have no clue what that is), key club, and maybe speech and debate and a religious student organization (maybe)all at my school.
I heard that making a website or starting a business to support family is good to do (signed up to make a web for Medical related stuff and planning to do business) but what are some other things I can do?
I mostly want to get into WashU, but I wouldn’t mind getting into similar T20 schools, I feel like I should plan to do more than what I need to for WashU (more like Ivy League) do that if I end up not doing stuff I will still be good enough for WashU.
Also today I got this email from my schools where they are looking for counselors and cabin leaders for middle school camps. Should I do it? I didn’t go to my middle school camp, I don’t want to really stay overnight and that would take a lot of work, but I may not get this opportunity again, should I seize the opportunity or will something better and more impactful for my application come up later on?

2024.05.15 22:05 sauceyykoi AITAH for telling my family I'm excited to move because I won't have to be around them anymore?

I, 19F, am moving into my first apartment in July/August which is about 5 hours away from where I currently live. When I move, this will be my first time living on my own and away from my family. I am pretty excited, as anyone else would be, to have my own space since I grew up in a big family, being the eldest of five children. Growing up I've always had a rocky relationship with my family, both on my mother's side as well as my father's side. Ever since a young age, I've noticed that my mother isn't really fond of me, as she claims that me being born made her "stuck" with my father. She's been very vocal about it so it's nothing new. But when I was in third grade, I seen that my mother was really close to my younger sister. She would take her out, go do things with her, and I was left alone to watch my three younger brothers, who at the time were, 4, 3, and 2. During those times my father was working. But it was still the same for my father as well, I noticed that he was really close to my younger brothers, but I was never mad towards my siblings as I knew it wasn't their fault. After some time of realizing the way I was being treated by both parents, I stopped trying to have a relationship with them. I was kind of just there.
Once I made this realization, I distracted myself with school. I joined sports, band, an art club, and student council. School was my main focus but even then, I wasn't able to really do much for myself. Once I got into 2nd grade, this is the way my daily schedule would look like... I'd wake up, wake my sister up for school, feed my brothers, change their diapers, then make my sister and I breakfast then I would lock up the house and go to school. School would end around 3:15 and there was a 15 minute break to get to our after school activities so within that time I'd walk my sister home, make sure my brothers were fed and changed and would walk back to school to do my after school activities. Then I'd walk home and shower and start getting dinner made, after dinner I'd bathe my siblings and put them to bed then do my homework and then go to sleep. It was like this throughout second grade until sixth grade.
My father was rarely home as he worked a lot, he'd work a lot to provide for five kids as well as my mother as she had a hard time keeping any jobs. Throughout my childhood, my mother was struggling with addiction, both alcohol and substance, as for my father he his was alcohol. Bur during my sixth grade year, my mother made the decision to go to rehab in hopes it'll help with her addictions. We were proud of her but it's the way she went about it that threw us off. She kind of just up and left and didn't tell anyone until she was there for a couple months. She had some trouble and ended up relapsing so as of right now, she is almost five years sober. It would be a good thing but it is kind of scary based on how she acts now that she is sober. She will randomly lash out towards us, become very mean and scream at us and like an hour later she's back to normal like nothing happened. We rarely see her as she lives about 5-6 hours away from where we currently stay because she rather stay with her boyfriend and his kids.
Over the past couple years, it has became very toxic to stay with family members, such as my sister as she will randomly lash out as well and start screaming and cussing at anyone around her. My father is a good man, he has sacrificed a lot for us but there are times where we bump heads as I took a gap year this previous year. But mainly it is my aunts and grandma that I told I would be excited to move so I wouldn't be around them anymore. The way my aunts would treat me compared to the way they would treat my siblings and cousins was way different and it sort of made me feel bad. They always excluded me and told me that since I was use to watching young ones, they'd leave their kids with me without even asking and when I was under 18, they told me I didn't have choices as I was "too young to make my own decisions". My grandma was criticize everything I did, for example, if I was reading, it would be "why are you reading that book? you should be doing your siblings laundry", if I was drawing or painting, it would be "you should be getting dinner prepared instead of doing that nonsense" or if I was watching a movie or show she'd say "back in my day we ladies didn't sit around doing nothing, we learned how to sew, cook, clean, etc. so get up and do something". I'd understand if she was saying this to me if I was a lazy person but trust, I am not. I help my dad prepare breakfast for everyone in the morning, when all the young ones leave for school, that really is the only time I have for myself. But I still help my father help with feeding the animals such as our chickens, dogs, cats, and sheep. I do most of the heavy lifting as my father isn't in the best condition and tends to lose his balance and get dizzy and he also isn't allowed to lift heavy things per the doctors request. I help make lunch for whoever is home then after I do what I what I want but I am constantly cleaning as there are a lot of people living in this household. There is my siblings and I, my father, my grandma, my two cousins my aunt left here, my older cousin and also two of my other cousins and aunt who stop by everyday for a couple hours.
Anyways, I hope that was more than enough to get an idea of my family lol. Where I am from, there is a program that will assist with living arrangements and paying for trade school, and helping look for work after graduating school. I never planned on doing this program, as I originally wanted to go to a four-year university for Elementary Education but I had to put that on hold for the time being. The reason for putting it on hold was because of financial problems, the court ordered that since my father has full custody of all of us, my mother and father would go half and half on everything and if we are over the age of 18, they both still had to help assist with anything money-wise if we are still continuing our education. But my mother rarely helped, my father struggled with us five and so I made the decision to not go to school and enter this program and work at the same time to make money to enroll into school after I finish this program.
Recently during Mother's day weekend, the topic came up about me being accepted into the program, how they found out? I'm not sure myself. But everyone started talking about it, such as my mother my aunts and grandma and certain cousins, talking about how they how have a place to stay and can't wait to use my place as a getaway place or how they'd drop off their kids during fall, spring, winter, and summer break. I was caught off guard, still trying to figure out how they even knew I was doing the program and got accepted, and they continued talking about how excited they were, not for me being accepted, but to have a place to stay and how they will just "show up uninvited" as it wouldn't matter if I allowed them to or not because once again, I am "too young to make those type of decisions". I started to feel bad, a bit sad as well but as I sat there listening to them go on and on, I just became angry and upset. With the way they treated me the past 7 years, constantly talking down on me, bullying me, harassing me, I was just done with it. They eventually stopped talking, looking at me and waiting for a response, and I just looked at them and started laughing. It was strange even for me, as I always just stay quiet and agree with them. I told them that I'd never let any one of them stay with me especially uninvited, and I would not be allowing them to just drop off their kids without asking and if they did, I call the cops or CPS. I then told them that I wasn't going to allow people who disrespected me and treated me horribly to step foot inside my place as it is suppose to be my safe space and will not let it be filled with negativity. I said that the only people allowed there would be my siblings, my father and my one younger cousin who I consider my littler sister. I told them that none of them would be allowed to know where I live. Finally I said that one of the main reason I'm moving away is to get away from them because they are mentally and physically draining. Then I told my mother that she wouldn't know where I would live at because I didn't want her running to my place every time her and her boyfriend would break up. I told her that I didn't trust her because of the way she would randomly lash out so I rather her not know where I lived. After I was done talking, they all started yelling and screaming, even crying about how it wasn't fair because they "did so much for me" and whatever but that's when I said that all they did for me was give me depression and severe anxiety. My father didn't say anything, he just sat there smiling and gave me a nod of approval. My siblings, especially my sister started defending me and that's when I decided to leave. I told two friends about what happened as they pretty much knew my whole life and they were proud of me for finally saying something but then I have extended family messaging and calling me, making post about me about how wrong I was and that I'm selfish and since I don't have kids I should just take my cousins with me since their parents are stressed.
I know I shouldn't feel this way but I feel like I should have stayed quiet and maybe just should have allowed them to go with me, even on breaks. What scares me is that I haven't moved yet to begin with so I'm nervous about what will happen when I actually do.
I'm sorry for how lengthy this post is, I just haven't really told anyone and used it as my place to vent and I apologize if this post is all over the place and confusing, I just needed to get it off my chest.
