2024.05.16 16:43 Indomie-Junkie Paradox of Choice in a Tech Career

It is paralyzing to have so many but all basic-level skills that I wish to grow and specialize in, and what makes it even more difficult is unknowing what my passion is. All of the non-technical people in my life encourage me to do something with what seems to them "impressive technical skills" instead of working 11 hours a day in a sales job that I hate, my family wishes I did something with my degree instead, I graduated two years ago as a biomedical engineer (and low-key I regret it now). Of course "impressive" is very subjective, and I realize that those people don't know exactly what the job roles are in any technical field, so I can't build up on those impressions as for them installing drivers for a new hardware and using a CMD makes them think I'm cut for an IT position, and for them a programmer is simply someone who makes software on a computer, and since I was able to create a calculator application in C# and build a website in HTML and CSS, they think now I'm all set for a career in programming.
The thing is, all of my knowledge in: - C# (Winform and Console apps only) - HTML, CSS - Database management and SQL (MS-SQL, SQLite) - Computers software and hardware repair (General IT entry-level skills) - Video editing (in adobe premiere, and other open-source video editing software) - Graphic design (in photoshop) - Flash game deisgn (very old hobby I had) - Technical drawing in SolidWorks - Java programming in Android Studio (I dabbled into it for a university project). - Digital image processing (in Matlab, also for a university class I had).
is at a beginner level. I never gave myself the time to master a thing, and I can't figure out what I should stick to.
For a long time, my dream was to get into game dev, but seeing how competitive and time-consuming it is and judging by the lengthy learning resources available which need to be followed by a protfolio that also needs time to build, and finally hearing about how it actually pays less than software development, I wrote it off. My 2 fellow engineer friends recommended either going for a DevOPS path, or a blender 3D modelling path. Before asking for their advice, I was aiming for a databases-related job because I enjoyed working with databases queries the most, but all of the job descriptions in my country seem to require a lot a lot more than just doing sql queries, so then I was drifted away by a third friend who is a web developer, he convinced me to try out the free bootcamp called "TheOdinProject" and I'm half way in already in their "Foundation" course. And my progress pace suddenly slowed down significantly at some harder topics. Why did I listen to the web developer and ignored the other 2 guys? Honestly I was afraid that being a bit slow at abstract concepts won't make the DevOps path easy for me, and the Blender route was as dreadful because it takes the double amount of time of Web Dev and DevOps as it requires a ton of practice but with the constraining working hours I currently have, that would be super difficult to achieve. So now I don't know what to trust, web dev looks to require as much dedication as the others and I don't know if I will have the motivation to pick it up and get up to speed as before after being stuck for a while now.
Thank you all for reading. Any advice would hopefully illuminate my way and clear up my confusion, so I'd really appreciate any insight.
Side notes: I'm not in the US. I can't quit my job because I have family responsibilities.

2024.05.16 16:37 MyClericalGnomance Beginners guide to unlocking the golden dice in honour mode.

Introduction

The main purpose of this guide will be to help unlock the golden dice for those of you who feel less confident about tackling honour mode. This is designed to be a path of least resistance, so we won’t be experiencing everything this game has to offer. It’s also worth noting that instead of focusing on min-maxing for damage; we prioritise safe & consistent damage. We don’t need to be respeccing characters often, if at all, and we won’t be relying on strength elixirs. My girlfriend (u/-babyjanehudson) and I put this together as we’ve beaten honour mode a 5 times now without any failed attempts, we were even in the first 800 people to beat it which is kinda cool! Here’s how we did it. First starting with our builds, then a little general advice and finally just a list of some general Do’s & Don’ts. Apologies for the wall of text.

Builds:

[Bardlock](https://www.reddit.com/BG3Builds/s/pMh6196Xp8) (party face) - Great old one Warlock 2, college of lore bard 10 - Cha16>Dex16>Con14>Wis12

Life cleric 12 - Wis16>Con16>Dex14>Str
(light cleric does more damage so is technically better for experienced players but a life cleric is there to save your run in case of an emergency, something pretty invaluable to beginners in HM as we can’t assume we are winning every fight in the first 2 turns like we ideally aim to)

Swords Bard Archer (Lockpicker) - 6 Swords Bard, 4 Rogue Thief, 2 Fighter - Dex17>Cha14>Con14>Wis12>Str
Skill priority for this character is Sleight of hand > Stealth > Perception > Persuasion > Intimidation > Deception > Acrobatics

Barbarian - Wild heart Bear Barb 8, Battle Master Fighter 4 - Str16>Con16>Dex14>Wis12

Final note for builds:
As you’ve probably noticed, yes almost everybody in the party takes a dip in fighter for access to action surge & shield proficiency. I learned this habit from Colby like everything else I know. He’s the Bob Ross of DnD builds and well worth your time.

General Advice

The most important factor in honour mode is “meta knowledge”, This means things like: knowing how to enter each combat effectively, making sure everyone is in a good position before starting, knowing exactly which enemies/spells you’ll face during that fight and ensuring you always take the enemy by surprise to gain a free turn. Being properly prepared is better than any build. As for difficulty, Act 1 is always going to be your biggest challenge so use plenty of rests and pick your fights carefully. For this guide I also recommend using your bard to persuade the act 2 bosses into committing suicide.

Do’s:

Don’ts:

2024.05.16 16:35 Evening-Produce-7303 Program music advice?

Hi!! I’m aiming to start competing later this year, either in Adult High Beginner or Adult Pre-Bronze (i would like to do pre-bronze for more jumps, but depends on how confident I can get in my spins lol).
Both levels have a 1:40 time limit for free skate.
Does anyone have suggestions? I’m pretty good at cutting songs down for time so that’s no issue. I don’t have a preference for with lyrics vs without.
Another adult at my rink has been working on a program to a really slow, kind of haunting cover of Wicked Game and I really like that! So any suggestions along those lines would be awesome.

Vivid, brave and propulsive, Vuong's poems contend with personal loss, the meaning of family, and the value of joy in a perennially fractured American spirit. The author of the critically acclaimed poetry collection Night Sky with Exit Wounds, winner of the 2016 Whiting Award, the 2017 T. S. Eliot Prize and a 2019 MacArthur fellow, Vuong writes directly to our humanity without losing sight of the current moment. 2024.05.16 16:16 Sleestak4 Learning Bulgarian through podcasts / dubs? *Need English subtitles*

I started learning Bulgarian 2 years ago and I’m at a decent stage of beginner level. I still can’t hold a conversation or track more than a few words at a time when others speak to me. I tried some free apps but they just don’t help with the learning the flow of the language. My girlfriend watches BG.tv but there are no subtitles in English so I struggle following that too. Her dialect is from the south west so it is also different than the official language - which makes it so much harder to communicate with her family.
So I am looking for any podcasts or movie dubs In Bulgarian that also have English subtitles. Most of everything I find doesn’t have English translation so it is hard to follow. Any suggestions? Благодаря!

2024.05.16 15:41 golfresearchproject [Please Help!] Beginner Golf Questions

Hey golf - I'm doing some research and trying to understand questions and barriers to the game for beginners. Think anyone who has gone to TopGolf, hit the range, had an intro lesson, etc. but hasn't really taken the next step to start learning the ins and outs of the game.
I created a survey I've shared w/ friends and family to help collect this information. It's located here. This exercise will help me with a project in growing the game in my local community.
If you fit this criteria, I'd greatly appreciate taking the ~3 minutes to fill it out. If you don't fit this criteria, feel free to share it with someone who does. The more responses, the better!
The responses are anonymous and I don't ask for any personal info (email address is not collected).
Thank you in advance!

2024.05.16 14:22 graymanrainman [Online][EST] [5e][LGBTQ+][18+] Spelljammer: Far Realms Cry

I'm looking for players that love to participate in roleplay. There's a fair amount of action, but I mostly focus all my energy on boss fights. This is NOT a beginner's campaign. This is only because I myself do not have the ability to teach the system since I'm a very free form when it comes to dnd. And I feel teaching someone would take too much of my time already. The only reason why I did 18 plus is I don't want to censor my game for some 16 year old that happens to live in Florida. Or for me to deal with any pedos I happen to accidentally pick up from the application process. We will be using roll20 and Discord to run it. So be prepped for that. And games will be weekly at 2pm EST on Wednesday. With this campaign, expect the setting to be a mix of Treasure Planet, a dash of Star Wars, and Star Trek for flavor. Then finally a hint of Call of Chathulu.
Here's some setting lore:
The year is 835. The war between the Astral Alliance and the Giff Empire had just started settling. And the Intergalactic Tribunal. A sort of United Systems government meant to unify the galaxy. While wars and inner conflicts are starting to mysteriously erupt in the star systems across the Re'alms Galaxy. Most pirates and common men say the tensions between each other are starting to rise once more. From the darkest corner of the universe, Translvata. Where Lupins and Vampire pirates are in constant conflict. To the ever-bright L'ong Nagaa, the birthplace of dragon kind, and for pirating. Xaryxispace, the cradle for the astral elves. Even the ever-untouched system of Exandria is on the very edge of a full-blown war. Doomspace is as doomed as ever... The only clue to some of this archaic chaos lies on Earth. A Planet far beyond the Re'alms Galaxy that seems to be close to being swallowed up by the mysterious darkness beyond known space... Earth. A system that many scholars and scientists theorize as a prophecy. That once earth is swallowed up by an encroaching darkness. It will make its way to our galaxy to destroy it... Will this group of adventurers save the Universe?! Or will it be consumed like all the rest...
And here are some small notes to keep in mind for what happened to our party already. Only so if you're already antsy to join and want to make a character.
Anyway, the sign-up process is the same as usual. Fill out an application with the google forms link below, then I reach out on discord for an interview call to see if you're a good fit for the party. I'm looking for just one person this time around. But if you don't get accepted the first time around, I will add a list of cool folks I'll reach out to first if anyone else drops the group.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1wsQ024HPJOuxICH_MJf0LG6IVz2u1WRNWkpYuPChVlQ/edit#response=ACYDBNjcmhPjYrBW-1qbK2RWtU2Lup99jjx581PHvyhKFr3y_4I2IEobnqtoZqfVEigXtb0
And I'll message anyone who applied from Graysondagent#4911 or from graysondagent (I still don't get if I still need to use the numbers or not so bear with me.) So DON'T reach out to me first unless you have applied. I will not awnser your request if you do
