2024.05.16 20:02 HopefulAsian Lonely Rant on myself & social life

I feel like I should feel content with the current friends I have, however I'm just not happy and have been feeling lonely as of late.
Im a 18M college student who's had to transfer from living in a dorm at university back to community college where I'm taking online classes only. Because of this, I've lost IRL touch with most of my friends. I still call them & enjoy talking to them. However, it doesn't feel the same as talking to them in person & they are usually busy so I end up talking to them wayy later. At the moment, I have very few IRL friends from highschool that I've hanged out with (really enjoying those times), but they've also gotten MUCH MORE busier with life stuff such as work or school.
I've had this really special-to-me hangout with a long distance female friend. I offered if she wanted to go to a 4 day local event + a place to stay so she didn't have to drive back & forth from her home (4+ hours). We enjoyed the event & plan on going to more in the long future :) But what I really enjoyed the most was the down-time in between the days where we were chillin together. We played some video games together and I felt like I was truly bonding with her. Plus, we tucked ourselves in a blanket on a bed while comfortably watching some K drama shows. Really, just platonically chilling in bed as we try out watching different kdrama episodes. This is by far my most cherishable experience as I've never done anything like this (closest being watching shows with friends over discord). We just vibed super comfortably. And I MISS THAT so much. She probably didn't think much of it but I've never felt so relaxed as that in a long time. Shes not my girlfriend nor do I have a crush on her, just a great friend that I occassionally talk to when she's not busy (usually is). But I really want someone to do that with again, someone new that I can hang out IRL & have more availability. But I obviously can't ask for someone & have them magically appear. It just happens.
With how a lot of my friends have gotten busy / distance from me in combination of one of my most cherisable moment has gotten myself to HATE MYSELF as I feel much more lonely. So far, I've been using it as some motivational fuel to go to the gym, study harder, and work on myself but DAMN I just HATE THIS FEELING that comes and goes all the time. I just wonder if I can meet someone that I can vibe & telax with on a couch / bed to watch shows and enjoy it while making fun remarks or talking / whatever more often...
I've never ranted like this before & have kept these kinds of feelings in check on my own. I've gone to therapy once but realized that I'm still a sane & functioning person and don't need it compared to others who may need it more than me. I guess I'm just at that age where shitty feelings PEAK & my lid of SHITTY feelings slightly leak. Im not depressed & Im not desperate to get a girlfriend as I dont think I'm ready until I work on my life. I feel like I want to be more MATURE but am stuck feeling like a CHILD even though I am technically an adult. I feel undeserving & selfish for wanting what seems like so much more to myself (socially, economically, and everything else). But I just wonder when things will change & how long would I have to endure these lonely + confusing feelings?
I JUST DON'T know. But, I hope I can meet more new friends as I take more in person classes & show up to some clubs in the future (though talking to new people in clubs is kinda difficulty when they've felt kinda cliquey as people seem to already have their groups).
Thanks for reading my rant I guess 🥲 Maybe I'll feel better the next few upcoming days, weeks, or months... I'll try to keep myself distracted in the meantime!

Last week was remarkable. Facing off against the Sacramento Republic, leaders of the Western Conference in the USL Championships, seemed like a daunting challenge. However, our Rhode Island FC players exceeded expectations. Matt, from RIFC Nation, introduced a new segment on his show after the game. He asked viewers to summarize the game in three words, and he nailed it with "A Different Team." The team showcased dominance, resilience, and determination. The performance was outstanding in every aspect. Jack Panayotou, a recent addition from the New England Revolution, made a significant impact on the game, especially noticeable in his contributions to set-pieces and corners. We're eager to see more of his contributions in advancing the ball through the middle and up the field. Stephen Turnbull's legend continues to grow with his second USL Championship goal of the season and third overall. It was also satisfying to see Karifa Yao score just before halftime. If it weren't for a late foul from Isaac Angking that led to the equalizer, we would have secured our first home victory. Nonetheless, we can compete with the top USL Championship clubs.
Tomorrow, we face the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the picturesque high mountain terrain of Colorado. Rhode Island FC currently stands 10th in the USL Championship Eastern Conference with 9 points (1 win, 6 draws, and 2 losses). The Switchbacks hold 9th position in the Western Conference with 10 points, boasting a record of 3 wins, 1 draw, and 5 losses. Last week, they defeated our rivals, Hartford Athletic, 2-0. Let's hope we bring the same dominant, resilient, and determined spirit we displayed at Bernie Stadium. It'll be crucial as we take on the Switchbacks tomorrow!
How do you assess our team's progress this season? Will you be traveling to Colorado for the game? Will you be joining one of our local watch parties at Troop in Providence featuring Chip or The Guild in Pawtucket with the 36ers? Whether local or watching from afar, let's rally behind our team as they aim to maintain their momentum against the Switchbacks, gearing up for next week's clash against the formidable Louisville City at home! Let's secure those three points against the mountaineers! #UpTheTide

2024.05.16 19:58 Thick-Werewolf8821 Was the most recent attack aimed at the crew?

I just finished the newest chapter and wow, always love these kinds of fights where the goal is to figure out what is going on and how to stop it.
But as I read the last panel where the Howler employees are watching the ambulance drive away, and they discussed the young lady who suffered an attack like Usagi, they brought up the fact that she is the child of a prominent politician who is trying to prosecute Howler for illegal water practices. I want to mention that water is making itself a seemingly very central theme to this part, but more importantly to my specific thoughts- why was the crew attacked?
There really shouldn’t be anyone who knows of their goals at this point, so why would anyone be after them? I think that this attack was entirely by coincidence, someone in the Howler Co., has it out for the politician, went after their daughter to teach them a lesson, and the crew happened to be in the crossfire.

2024.05.16 19:52 yadavvenugopal Science Fiction Inspired Designs and Inventions

Science Fiction Inspired Designs and Inventions
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic - Arthur C Clarke
Science fiction has always been a precursor to science fact, especially when it comes to Science fiction-inspired designs and inventions. Most complex technologies begin with the germ of an idea in the mind of a creative person and more often than not, it's a science fiction writer.
Ideation is the first and most important and often the most complex part of any invention. This is why science fiction writers are always ahead of scientists when it comes to the conceptualization of future tech.
https://preview.redd.it/xogckxwzst0d1.jpg?width=286&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12a7ba9f871ec281fa398cd5bdb99d431e1703c5
After envisioning a technology in detail you can bring the engineers to map out what needs doing and what can't be done. The next step would be building a prototype that is sufficient for testing and making it suitable for commercial production.

Science Fiction-Inspired Designs and Inventions

Here we will go through technologies that we take for granted today, but just a few decades ago were purely in the realm of science fiction.

1. Transparent Screen from The Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone by Rod Serling was truly ahead of its time in terms of its sci-fi concepts, dense storylines, and amazing execution. This meant that great episodes used hi-tech concepts judiciously and presented them folded into a larger reality that blew the socks off the viewers.
The reason why it seemed so ahead of its time was that most episodes of this series were inspired by key science fiction authors such as Ray Bradbury, Arthur C Clarke, and Isaac Asimov.
One such awesome storyline involved a society with unique standards of beauty far in the future that had amazing tech gadgets. The episode is named Eye of the Beholder and is fantastically done.
The best piece of tech that stood out in this episode was the transparent screen that slid down from the ceiling and turned opaque during display.
https://preview.redd.it/bszho5y2tt0d1.jpg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb9ed295af0771a5cad6a032f3efffbbe8aa2fad
https://preview.redd.it/yw4vt7y2tt0d1.png?width=1036&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed522f11876966b240dd9b5c68220ae15832599e

Such screens are available only in 2024 ( and showcased in 2023), showcased widely only in the latest installment of Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024. The LG Transparent screen in 2024 grabbed a lot of eyeballs and was the belle of the ball in the display section.

The Twilight Zone series got everything right, from the form factor to the actual function of such an amazing invention decades ahead of its time!

2. Flat screen from Star Trek

The Star Trek TOS episode Requiem for Methuselah (Season 3, Episode 19) has a flat-screen LED TV that is complete in its design with the stand and thin bezels exactly as it is commercially available today.
https://preview.redd.it/7982kkw5tt0d1.png?width=799&format=png&auto=webp&s=e0c3f3e6cc0b0153b50a3c2da5555d6e456f3bd1
https://preview.redd.it/fxzvdiw5tt0d1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=bea4ff2fef4fa3f7a2332512ac74b0380fea055e
Reyna, Flint's companion watches their guests on their video surveillance system on a Flat Screen TV that is amazingly identical to the ones in production today.
What I loved about this is that, just like the transparent screen mentioned above, it is decades ahead of its time and is perfect in how it has been visualized by the propmasters of the time.

3. Geostationary orbit - Arthur C Clarke

Genre-defining science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke proposed the idea of satellites that could take a Geo-stationary orbit serving the purpose of a radio relay station. This way a third of the Earth's surface could be covered for communication purposes by a single satellite.
https://i.redd.it/b1xoxwh7tt0d1.gif
This idea was first published in the Wireless World October 1945 issue authored by Arthur C Clarke.
https://preview.redd.it/0zghogsctt0d1.png?width=830&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c4fa0f733ad986eee7fe3121e4517e975487c87
Most of our communications networks across the globe today depend on such geostationary satellites, whether it's a smartphone network or a weather station. Considering that the first communications satellite using this tech was launched in Syncom 2 in 1963, Clarke was decades ahead of his time when he came up with this vital concept.

4. The Cellphone - Star Trek Communicator

One of the most iconic symbols of science fiction is the communicator from Star Trek TOS. The unmistakable sound of flipping the communicator open followed by the distinct bird chirp will remind anyone interested in sci-fi of the brilliant device.
https://preview.redd.it/i1sh3ewhtt0d1.png?width=723&format=png&auto=webp&s=8d64ee51e6720ee722c59171509c1f5d5af81af1

It probably inspired the design of the flip phone that was suddenly back in fashion after the introduction of flexible displays. Nothing was closer to this design than the Motorola flip phone or the Sony Ericsson flip phones of the '90s and noughties.
You can easily get a functioning replica online from a few stores.

5. Transparent Aluminium - Star Trek

Star Trek IV: The Journey Home was an amazing movie with a lot of the cast from Star Trek TOS. The plot revolves around a bit of time travel and a whole lot of science- fictional or otherwise.
https://preview.redd.it/oadicp3mtt0d1.png?width=842&format=png&auto=webp&s=649ce215bbf84fb2834f92c8321413dd47e52618
James Doohan as Scotty reprises his role as a close friend of Jim Kirk and a brilliant engineer in this movie and solves the problem of transporting marine creatures back to the enterprise. As payment, Scotty offers a unique form of payment to a manufacturing firm on Earth in the past - the formula for transparent Aluminium.
https://preview.redd.it/bd6fxnrntt0d1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e21efc3f36f7002ea1027eea6784abc3e52452d
Star Trek introduced the world to transparent aluminum, a concept that was science fiction at the time. However, today, it is known as aluminum oxynitride (AlON), a material that reflects the very prediction of the film, the prediction of quality content.
As of today, transparent aluminum is available commercially across the world and used in applications ranging from armored glass to construction and drone tech.

Wrapping Up

An invention takes a creative mind and every legendary science fiction writer is blessed with one. This is why most of their writing contains futuristic technologies fleshed out in amazing detail, sometimes right down to the production details.
So if you are looking for a high-tech solution to a problem you can always look to the all-time great science fiction writers for inspiration and invent your way out of your problem!

2024.05.16 19:52 ideletereddit Some thoughts on Videodrome after rewatching it…

So much more compelling on rewatch when I’m able to disassociate myself from the shock factor. David Cronenberg’s reflection of the era of trashy MTV television and classless pornography available on home video, is even more relevant in the times of today, where the sickest media imaginable is available in a few clicks(or more likely, taps). We live in an era of a constant demand for simple gratification. We look at screens every day for stimulation. We live behind personas online, and rely upon this virtual reality to express ourselves. We truly have become one with our machines, and as technology advances to make technology an even larger element of our lives and to further stimulate to the point that it replaces reality. AI is slowly becoming a part of society, the line between truth and fabrication has become increasingly vague. Truth is evolving. We live in a completely different world to our ancestors, a world created by us. Humanity has overtaken the natural world, and will likely soon destroy it. However, media is eternal. Media never dies. When an artist dies, their recordings keep their spirit.
The film is also a reflection on the sensationalized state of media. Human beings are constantly on the search for the most obscene content. Whether this be in tabloids about famous figures, or news articles, or most dangerously, in exaggerated media that distorts these revolting concepts into a phallic bastardization of itself. Videodrome is a commentary on its own audience in this way. The graphic violence on screen is a commentary on the exaggerated violence the films viewers want to engage in, while fulfilling this purpose within itself. The film also works to comment on the way that pornography destroys the perception of gratification in one’s mind and makes them less human. Again, an exaggerated, crude bastardization of one of life’s most intense and emotionally potent experiences. The violence in the film is not only incredibly well done, but it is also a meta reflection on the distortion of media and how it affects the mind.
Truthfully, I could write so much more about this film, but this will do for now. I am so happy I was able to watch this in a theater with an excited and engaged crowd, and even more ecstatic that I was able to share the film with my dear friend and open up his mind to a side of cinema he had yet to discover.

2024.05.16 19:42 BobIsMyCableGuy Medical Bill sent to Debt Collector even though I had not received a bill from the Medical Facility?

Hello,
I have had a debt collector reach out to me informing me that they are trying to collect on a medical bill from 2022. I have verified that the actual company is legitimate, and that I did indeed receive service from the medical provider. I am even fairly certain that I paid the provider for services, but again, near 2 years is a long time ago and remembering that far back is near impossible. The Debt Collector says that the medical facility told them that the medical facility billed my insurance, but under my insurance claims portal, I don't see a claim for that medical facility, so I can neither verify, nor deny that this was the case. I currently have my bank pulling statements from around that time as they're no longer available on the online portal of the bank, so that I can run through them and verify that a payment did or did not come out for the medical facility. The problem I have with this all is that I was never directly sent a bill from the medical facility and if I had paid them, it would have been some sort of Co-Pay at the time. 2 years have gone by, and I have seen no bill from them, even after calling and them saying that if I had a bill, it would be sent in the mail. Since no bill was sent to me, I assumed that I had paid in full already, so I should not worry about it once 6 months to a year went by.
My question is, what are my legal rights if they had not sent a bill for nearly 2 years, and then all of a sudden a debt collector is calling about this alleged bill that I owe? Should I seek counsel, or what? I feel like personally this would be a violation to my rights as a consumer, but I cannot be sure as I am not a legal expert. The state I live in is Colorado.

Apple unveils AI-enhanced eye tracking, music haptics, voice shortcuts

Apple recently unveiled new accessibility features that will launch later this year. One of these features is Eye Tracking, which enables users with physical disabilities to navigate their iPhones and iPads using only their eyes.
By leveraging the front-facing camera and AI, Eye Tracking allows precise control through a “Dwell Control” feature, eliminating the need for additional hardware.

Another noteworthy addition is Music Haptics, designed for users who are deaf or hard of hearing. When enabled, the Taptic Engine in iPhones plays taps, textures, and refined vibrations synchronized with music audio.
Additionally, Apple has introduced Voice Shortcut, which allows users to create custom voice commands for specific actions on their devices. With Voice Shortcut, users can perform tasks hands-free by simply speaking their personalized commands
Why does this matter?
This would encourage the development and advancement of AI technologies in the accessibility domain, ultimately benefiting individuals with disabilities across different platforms and devices.

2024.05.16 19:39 rasalghularz CMV: You can be Pro-Palestine and Queer.

Something often repeated by “liberal” pro-Israelis is “Queers for Palestine” is wrong because Palestinians stone gay people to death and every queer person should be Pro-Israeli as it is the “only pro-LGBT” country in the middle east.
  1. First of all, yes. There is no recognition of same-sex marriage (although decriminalised in the West Bank) and most Palestinians are overwhelmingly anti-LGBT.
But this doesn’t change the fact that:
A. The Israeli government routinely house arrests or deports hundreds of homosexual Palestinians have fled to Israel. And some of them are being blackmailed to become informants for Israel. It was only in 2022 that Israel began issuing work permits for gay Palestinian refugees, who had been granted asylum but I think we all know the treatment of Palestinian refugees in Israel today especially after 7/10.
B. Netanyahu’s government (prior to the war cabinet) is in alliance with far-right parties notably Bezalel Smotrich (who said he has a problem with LGBT culture and appeared to compare gay marriage to incest.) and also Itamar Ben-Gvir.
C. A Pew Research Report which showed that 56% of Israelis oppose same-sex marriage. (Report was posted in Nov. 2023 btw).
D. Lastly, a point to be noted is vast majority of Israelis support a Two-State Solution or a general peace process where both can live in peace. It is the often the Far-Right Israelis who actively call for genocide and annexation of West Bank and Gaza, the same people who happen to be the most opposed to LGBT rights.
  1. Yes, Palestinians are anti-LGBT but the fact is people’s ideologies are shaped by the place and time they live in. 57.9% of West Bankers and a staggering 65.4% of Gazans are under 24. Most are kids who grew up under the views of their parent’s generation and their moral views.
Most of the Women’s Suffragette movementof the late-19th and early 20th century was extremely racist towards non-white people and was against Civil-Rights. Does that mean the then black women supporting equal voting rights were wrong and stupid? No, that movement was a product of it’s (racist) time. It was only after voting rights were passed, Civil Rights were fought for.
  1. If Queers for Palestine is “Chickens for KFC” then why are queer-Palestinians chanting Free Palestine? What about the hundreds of queer Gazan people being bombed by Israel? Read this TIME article (In Gaza, ‘Queering the Map’ Shows Heartbreaking LGBT Notes TIME)
  2. Last point not specific to this post but a lot of people support the Israeli bombings by saying, “They voted for Hamas.” Let me remind you, last elections happened in 2009 succeeding in a civil war. The only opposition to Hamas is PLA. A corrupt government that is supported by Israel and USA. When the only choice is between a corrupt government that sold its people to the countries that are bombing them and a terrorist organisation that at-least appears to fight for your rights. It’s unfortunate but most will support the latter.
People also conveniently forget how Gazans routinely were jailed and tortured for protesting against the Hamas dictatorship. Most Palestinians either are being forced/have no choice but to support Hamas.

2024.05.16 19:37 CuriousAnachronism 24 M Germany - History and Literature Enthusiast

Hello and welcome to my post. I would like to make a friend.
Here are my interests:
History. I have had an interest in history for almost a decade now, it started back in school and developed from there. Well, now that I think about it one could argue that it started even earlier in my life as I liked watching the odd historic documentary or film aired on television but it wasn't regular back then, I never actively sought it out. I am mostly interested in European history in the period between the 18th-20th century but I sometimes branch out to other time periods and other parts of the world. I watch various channels related to history and read articles and sometimes books. I have recently got a few books on the German revolution of 1848/1849 and a historical magazine on the Thirty Years' War. Besides that I try to visit museums sometimes.
Literature. Especially old novels. I like to immerse myself in the Worlds of these books, I tend to read them while listening to thematically fitting music and take my time with them. One time you are following a troubled Youth in his quest for spiritual understanding of the world, another you see the aged and decrepit Doctor gambling his very Soul on the promises of abtaining satisfaction in earthy pleasures, then again your olfaction notices the most pleasant scent known to man even as the one eminating it has the appearance of a revolting Frog. These and many other stories open up to you once you decide to set foot into the literary World.
Languages. I know three, with one being a bit rusty. I am currently working intently on strengthening it. I believe that if I continue to apply myself in this regard then I should be able to finally conquer it. What language am I working on? Well, if you were to stack all the major works in it they would be as tall as a house... It is fun to go through different works in multiple languages, the same goes for film, games and such.
Games. I recently played Cyberpunk 2077. Well as recently as I played any major story centric game. Now that the dust has settled and the bugs mostly removed...It's not that bad. The main questline at least. Besides that I tried Fallout 76 (Very average, I'm dissapointed with what they made the "RPG" system) and I might give Deus Ex Manking Divided another spin (since it's somewhat similar to Cyberpunk when it comes to its aesthetics). Dark Souls is one of my favorite series, I still haven't beaten Elden Ring though. When it came out I wasn't in the right mindset to invest a hundred hours into it, with all those bosses and difficult locations. I think I'll only consider playing it if I am streaming it to someone. I am generally interested in either streaming games or having the person I am talking to stream them to me. To be specific I mean streaming to a single person while being on call. Besides that I'm a big fan of Paradox strategy games, especially Europa Universalis IV and Heats of Iron IV, I tend to only play single player since I find multiplayer with many people to be rather stressful but on the other hand I have nothing against a co-op game. I'm not the best player though, despite the ammount of hours I have in them. Another great game I would mention would be Dragon's Dogma. A very underrated RPG. I recently beat it again and it was an atmospheric and interesting experience. It is one of those games that feel like they have an endless ammount of depth and constant new secrets to discover.
Anime and Manga. In recent times my interest in them has waned but I still watch the occasional series here and there. Like Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Which I found to be rather mediocre) and the very good first season from the new arc of Bleach. Some of my favourite series include: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Fate;Zero, Psycho Pass, Code Geass and Attack on Titan. I wouldn't mind if you were to introduce me to some new series, maybe based on the ones I mentioned. My favourite Manga is Berserk which I still follow, althought I am still not certain on the direction that the new author is taking. I suppose it really is a matter of contention whether a somewhat (or considerably warped) vision is better than an unfinished work. One could argue that a few novels remain unfinished and possess a macabre appeal to them as such.
Music. Classical music has a very special place in my heart. A few of my favourite pieces would be: Clair de Lune, Nocturne Op. 9 No.2, Devil's Trill Sonata, Danse Macabre, Valse Sentimentale, Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92: II. Alegreto (by Beethoven) and Suite from Swan Lake, Op. 20a: I. Scene. Moderato. There are more but these ones always invoke something in me when I listen to them. Besides Classical I also enjoy listening to Synthwave, old Western pop and J-pop, both modern and from the 20th century.
Well that about wraps it up for my interests. I would like to add a few things before I finish. I am neurodivergent (autism spectrum) and struggle with mental health. I respect the struggles others have but due to certain negative experiences I would prefer to find another Aspie. I am rather introverted and I do not have a large social circle. If I like someone I want to spend as much time with them as possible. I have been hurt in the past by caring about someone much more than they about me so I would like to avoid such things now.
If you decide to message me I ask that you send a DM instead of a chat and tell me about yourself. Take care.

Take care.

2024.05.16 19:35 WorthGrass5226 Passed PMP 5/14/24 AT/AT/AT! First try!

Hey All,
Let me preface this by saying I was always a crappy student in school. Was never motivated, slacked off as much as I could, and pulled more allnighters the night before a test than I would have liked to - just to get an average score because I didn't study more in advance.
With that being said, I did officially pass the PMP on my first try on 5/14/24 with AT in all 3 target areas! I wanted to share my advice as I know when I first started studying I felt lost and wasn't sure if I was wasting time studying the wrong materials.
1.) PMI Study Hall is THE NUMBER ONE thing you should be studying. The questions on the test very closely mimic study hall. Look at the reasoning of why you got questions wrong and memorize the vocabulary as best you can (there are some vocab questions on the exam). As everyone else notes, the mindset is key. Caveat: use the expert questions as additional practice, but try not to confuse yourself with the explanations - some of them are contradictory to the PMP mindset. However, I wouldn't say skip them all together as some people suggest because it is additional practice. I did find there were some VERY challenging questions on the exam and maybe those were expert level. It's hard to say.
2.) Don't waste too much time/money spreading yourself too thin between all of the different study materials. This may sound controversial but - AR Mindset, 3rd rock notes, different PMP programs you can find online and pay for - keep in mind all of these people are making money off of you and of course they're going to tell you that their program is the best, no one ever fails after taking their course (BS - you can find plenty of people here that failed after meticulously studying AR's mindset course). My biggest problem with people who make their own "PMP Study Course" is that they're making up the questions themselves and you're not getting an accurate representation of what the exam will look like. The most helpful thing from these programs is probably the mindset - but again it could lead you astray. I would emphasize that PMI study hall was the single most helpful tool I used.
3.) David McChlaclan's youtube videos - primarily 200 agile questions, 150 waterfall, and the 7th edition PMP questions videos helped a lot - and helped break up the monotony of reading through Study Hall content every day. I would constantly rotate between study hall questions and then watch david's videos and follow along when my brain started to fry for the day.
With that being said, the questions he goes over are most likely generated himself or outside of PMI - but SOME of them look similar to the questions you'll find on the test - and his explanations really help you master the mindset of eliminating bad answers and narrowing them down to the right choice. He also really helps fill in the knowledge gap of the AGILE questions - which as many people state here on Reddit - are a huge portion of the exam. The agile knowledge and vocabulary around agile processes is KEY.
Side note: I specifically remember many questions about deliverables, and the stakeholders rejecting deliverables at the end of a project: what to do, what SHOULD the PM have done, etc. Maybe take a note of that, and how it relates to acceptance criteria of deliverables.
2nd Side Note: I never once referred to the PMBOK 7th edition guide or Agile Practice Guide Books - again I thought reading through these was like watching paint dry and felt it was a huge waste of time instead of just diving right into study hall and YouTube and cross referencing things when I didn't understand them (google searches for definitions, etc.).
Make sure you're not just memorizing the answers in PMI Study Hall (there are about 700 questions total) - mix it up between the practice questions and practice tests to make sure you're getting a well rounded understanding of all of the material.
TIme Management: This was harder than I thought it was going to be. I was taking too much time deciding between answer choices and reviewing answers for the first 2 sections of the test. This left me with 65 minutes for the last 60 questions and I REALLY busted through the last section as quickly as possible - I ended up with about 7 minutes to review my flagged questions for this section and got some peace of mine before submitting everything. With that being said, make sure you manage your time well from the beginning - mental fatigue really does start to wear on you.
Last rant: the power of the internet now is amazing. There is so much good content on youtube and people giving away free information - and that was a huge contributor to my success - especially when concepts in Study Hall/the explanations were confusing.
I never expected to pass AT/AT/AT - (I studied maybe 3 months total with 1-2 hours a day and sometimes not studying for days in a row - the last 2 weeks I turned it up hardcore and studied 3-8 hours a day depending on my mental capacity for the day). But with consistency and really dedicating yourself, it's possible. I thought the exam overall was CHALLENGING, some easy questions but some very tricky ones.
I just wanted to post this to say THANK YOU for all the helpful information and references to helpful study material. My success wouldn't have been possible without the Reddit PMP community. I'm very glad I'll never have to take that 4 hour, anxiety-inducing test again.

2024.05.16 19:34 imedpgy1 Recommendations on souvenirs for picky, insufferable, harmless nephew from USA (gen z/millenial age)

Have 2 nephews in Southern California. 18M and 30M. They’re pretend hipsters but they’re family that I’ve been connecting more with recently.
Want to get something from here and the text in our chat said “please don’t get something that can be bought online”. Things I thought of but was unsure on
** I am in Biel/Bienne and would prefer some thing/ local
  1. a Swiss Army knife ?that can only bought in store in Switzerland. Is there such a thing? /model ?Or is their online store/Amazon same as shopping at the actual store?
  2. Saw filk flak watches (the 30yo would wear this) but then I saw they’re avail online anyway. Any unique pieces that are in store only?
  3. Basically the only thing I could think of that these children would fist bump me on would be a hard rock tshirt Davos- these definitely cannot b bought online.
Any ideas recommends appreciated. (They don’t want ovaltine or cheese).
**edit, they both really like the idea of a Swiss Army knife, but don’t know how to go about making sure I buy one from a store here/(or from the factory) that cannot easily be purchased online anyway. A commenter below suggested engraving. Thank you

2024.05.16 19:29 MysteriousMister0 What thing entertains you when you're boredwith your life?

So what is it that you watch online or do when you don't feel like living your life but instead you're passing it. What makes you think again. It could be a tv show or YouTube channel or some move, book, anything.

2024.05.16 19:28 Extension-Midnight83 How to survive as a freelancer

I left my full time job over 3 years ago and have been freelancing as a programmer since then. Making full time money (> 6 figures/year) and really enjoying it.
I hear a lot from people about how hard freelancing is, and how the market sucks now. So I wanted to give my perspective and some tips on how I've survived (and dare I say thrived?) freelancing last couple of years:
1. The gold mine of finding clients is from your inner network
This is why I think it's important to work for a couple years full time first, to build up your network. My best clients have been from my inner network, it's by far the best way to find good paying work.
If you don't have a good network, leads to my next tip:
2. Have a system for finding clients online, and be disattached
I'll often apply to hundreds of freelance listings, and maybe hear back from 1-5%. Of that, maybe half of them I'll land. It's a numbers game, and it's not personal. Definitely do not feel discouraged and take it personal when you're rejected.
I also use a tool called devlist.co , which finds the best listings online for me and sends them in an email. Highly recommend it saves me lots of time.
3. Have a great portfolio
You need to have something to show. Just a resume won't cut it. You need tangible evidence of what you can do. Honestly 99% of people in the market are about equal, and the people that land jobs are the ones with great portfolios.
Anyways, I hope that helps someone out there. I've felt the highs and lows of freelancing, but if you're like me and love autonomy it doesn't get much better when you get it work. Keep grinding!
