Bobby Conn - The Golden Age

2024.04.04 17:31 Bilking-Ewe Bobby Conn - The Golden Age

Bobby Conn - The Golden Age
I am just posting some stuff I don’t see here already. What can be said about glam/progressive rocker Bobby Conn? You kinda have to dive in and find out for yourself. This album is his most cohesive and packed with gems.
From Wikipedia: Conn was born as Jeffrey Stafford in New York, but spent much of his young life in the Chicago suburb of St. Charles. He started a hardcore punk trio in high school called "The Broken Kockamamies" (The BK's, or BKS) who were noted for using eight-foot strobe lights on a darkened stage as their only prop. The strobes were affectionately called "the pillars of fear."
The Golden Age has received the best all-round critical response of any of Bobby Conn's albums to date. Uncut magazine called it "almost magical", while Mojo admitted that "Self-consciously strange it may be, but [this album] proves Conn is much more than a novelty act." Q Magazine said that "the music is dazzling, daft and dark as the man himself", while Alternative Press suggested that "the genius of this record is its combination of theatricality and thrift. Conn easily finds art in what more self-consciously hip bands work hard to discard and denigrate".[3] In Music We Trust praised Conn as "a talented songwriter able to craft, mold, and re-invent, Bobby Conn touches a style and turns it into gold."

Online Tennis ScoreBoard

tennis score counter onlineTennis scoring might be confusing sometimes but this free online and customizable tennis scoreboard will help you keep the score easily.
Customize the game in the settings, adjust the colors, set who serves first and you're ready to start. Click the score next to the player that wins a point to count automatically. It will track everyting, except when the players need to swap sides.

Settings and tennis rules

Unlike other sports tennis points are counted in game, set and match points. Game score goes like "Love" (0), 15, 30 then 40. 40-40 is called Deuce and in this case they play on advantage.
Set score goes up to 6 with at least a 2 point advantage. At 6-6 they play a "tie break", a set that is counted normally as 1-2-3, not 15-30-40. Tie break is won by the player who reaches 7 with at least 2 difference, so this can go on for quite a long time. The serve is changed after every second point.
Match points are counted on the left row or sometimes they display the result of the previous sets. You can set this scoreboard to do so. A match is won by the player that is the best of 3 or 5 sets.
These were the rules of the tennis in a nutshell. Go on and experiment with the settings and don't forget to track your game with this free online scoreboard when you play tennis the next time!

2023.12.25 01:08 DJReshiram Album of the Year #7: Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist - Voir Dire

Artist: Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist
Album: Voir Dire

Background by u/djreshiram
Voir Dire is a French phrase that has several meanings. The english translation of the phrase is “to speak the truth”. In law, Voir Dire is a process of preliminary examination of either a witness or juror, typically to weed out possible biases in the courtroom. In hip-hop, Voir Dire is the newest album from Los Angeles rapper Earl Sweatshirt, joined by veteran producer The Alchemist.
Long before the existence of this album, Earl Sweatshirt has been collaborating with The Alchemist. After Earl’s initial come-up through LA rap group and sensation OFWGKTA, he found himself working with the melting pot of rappers and producers that lay at home in Southern California. With Earl being an obvious standout for having such tightly crafted verses of rhymes and vivid punchlines, it was inevitable he would find himself at The Alchemist’s home in Santa Monica. Fellow OF member Hodgy Beats made the connection happen, which would lead to an ongoing friendship between Al and Earl. It wasn’t until 2016 the duo dropped an official song called “Wind in my Sails”. (It was later revealed the song “Uncle Al” off of Earl’s debut, Doris, was ghost-produced by The Alchemist).
Earl and Al continued to release songs through the years, such as “E. Coli” off of The Alchemist’s EP Bread, “Mtomb” & “Whole World” on Earl’s 2019 EP, Feet of Clay, “Nobles” in 2021 for Al’s EP series This Thing Of Ours and on Earl’s last album Sick! In 2022 on “Old Friend”, “Visions” and “Lye”.
It was inevitable the two would gear up for a joint project. On Xwitter, Earl and Al have mentioned they have already made and released a project together under a secret name and uploaded it to YouTube. Given the nature of the two it is very likely they are joking, but the fun idea that it does exist somewhere on YouTube was amusing for fans of both artists. However, whether it does or doesn’t exist is irrelevant now, as we have been blessed with Vore Dire.
As Earl was gearing up for his 10th anniversary of his debut Doris, he and the Alchemist began teasing their new project. In August, Earl’s website led people to solve puzzles on a Web3 site called Gala Music. The puzzles would then give clues to the album. By the end of the month a listening party was taking place in London, and on that same day, August 25th, Voir Dire was released for free on Gala Music alongside 11 NFTs. On October 6th, the album was released on streaming services with 3 alternate tracks, 2 of which featured Vince Staples.
The album finds Earl being honest with his current self, in a place of reflection and realization. He allows The Alchemist’s hip-hop heavy production of rare samples and filtered effects to be strapped back, much as Earl's word count. Both take a minimalist approach to their crafts making the most happen with the little they have. On common ground, both allow their greatest assets to shine while giving a hypnotic project that is equally parts beautiful as it is tough. Earl’s rhyming and visual wordplay captivate the listener while Al’s masterwork of his equipment shines with unique and colorful loops that allow for minimal drums that highlight the vocals.
Earl’s ventures into abstract and experimental hip-hop arrive at possibly the highest point of his career in Voir Dire. Sick! was Earl channeling into more conventionally modern hip-hop beats and both Some Rap Songs and Feet of Clay dove into the abstract sounds and experimentation that would lead us to Von Dire.
As a rapper and producer myself, this album hit every mark for me as an obvious hip-hop AOTY (my AOTY is Poppy’s Zig). Earl’s rapping as of late has easily been my favorite of his career. His lazy cadence works so effortlessly while other times he delivers more animated performances to elevate his lyrical content. Since Earl has constructed a “more is less” approach to writing, his analogies and punchlines have gotten much more impactful, as well as highlighting his rhymes as they happen so often with less words to rhyme. Furthermore, The Alchemist is easily one of the best producers in hip-hop, especially when it comes to underground style boom bap. With drumless beats being ever so popular in the genre currently, Al seems to be one of the best at transforming a sample into movements through layering, sequencing and filtering.
Voir Dire is easily one of the best projects in both artists' careers, and I’m excited to go through all 14 tracks released for the project. I will be reviewing the album based on the tracklisting of the physical release of Voir Dire with the additional track, “All The Small Things” being omitted from the physical, I’ll discuss that song last.
Review by u/djreshiram
100 High Street
Track one opens with a glistening string loop before Earl raps drums until they’re filtered in. He keeps the same flow but keeps the rhyme emphasis consistent, even when he changes to a different rhyme, you almost can’t tell. “100 High Street” is a simple intro track showcasing Earl with almost no alteration from The Alchemist until the outro where he does his thing. A vocal sample over some tight filter effects cue in a woman talking about royal ancestors. Perfect opener.
Vin Skully
The video version of the song appropriately includes a Vin Scully sample. Vin was a LA legend, famous for being the Los Angeles Dodgers commentator. The sample is taken from his retirement speech. The sample sounds like a dusty desert town with an electrifying guitar lick with a nicely tucked bumping bass. Earl comes in with a quick hook going gung ho with the baseball references. His floaty flow stays wide as he uses all the spaces to initiate words in his cool lowkey finesse flow. Earl reminisces his past of poverty and addiction and traumas that came from those. Earl gives a highlight verse with a Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story reference. The song ends with a tape slow down on the beat and a vocal sample about usage.
Sentry (feat. MIKE)
The lead single from the album, “Sentry” features underground hip-hop sensation “MIKE” as one of two artists featured on the album. The song starts with a grunt before Earl rips away on the 12/8 time signature. The Alchemist chops up a sample, leaving it in its time signature giving a swung performance. While Earl flows as he typically does, MIKE comes in and shines while keeping the same melodic verse throughout the entire odd metered beat. The song is quick and sharp with a fade-out to close us into the next track.
Heat Check
“Heat Check” was not initially on the album for the August release date. Replacing “All The Small Things”, the song features a smooth 80s sample of chill drums, warm keys and lush bass. The chops are perfect with cuts into drum breaks and vocal parts. The intro filters out to hear someone exit a vehicle before Earl comes in with his now signature wide flow. “Heat Check” is full of punchlines and clever analogies, as he talks about how he doesn’t mess with most people, outside of his circle. The song is top notch on both artists end, as it ends with a sample back to the same man on the outro of “Vin Skully”.
Mancala (feat. Vince Staples)
Another song that was added to the streaming and physical versions of the album. “Mancala” features Vince Staples with his first of two appearances on this album. The sample comes in and Al takes you right to church with beautiful piano chops full of choir claps and simple drums rocking with a bass line that follows the keys splendidly. Earl comes in so sharp with great bars and an impressive rhyme scheme. After Earl demolishes his verse, Vince comes in mimicking 21 Savage on “A Lot” with his typical gang-adjacent vernacular. The song ends with the sample ending into a skit of Earl having a conversation with his friend in a drive-thru.
27 Braids
Track 6 features one of the most personal songs on the album with Earl opening up about his introduction to fatherhood. He goes through the motions of telling his family while now changing his life perspective to become a good father figure. The beat is a loop of sustaining strings and synths with a guitar lick hammering in, alongside blippy sound effects that sound other-worldly. Earl’s best lyrics easily come for this song as the track goes into a horror movie sample to conclude.
Mac Deuce
The sample from the previous track plays into “Mac Deuce”, with a mesmerizing keyboard line to take charge in the beat. The loop plays a couple times before Earl comes in with some of the most interesting flows on the album. He finds every pocket of the sample, rightfully so, as this comes off as one of Al’s best sample finds on the project. This track ends with a Krush Groove sample about being on top.
Sirius Blac
Probably named after the weed strain, and not the Harry Potter character, the almost drumless sample chop of bells, flutes, guitar and strings comes together nicely with Earl coming in fiercely on the beat. He raps a solid minute and some change before delivering a dope hook before the song fades out.
Dead Zone
Track 10 on the original comes at track 9 here, with “Dead Zone”. The beat is another almost drumless loop, with a syncopated array of piano hits, with high note strings in the ambiance. Earl comes in and finds the pockets of the beat much as he did the entire project; with very wide flows and great wordplay. This is one of the few songs to feature a more traditional hook, as it comes in the beginning of the song and the outro. The man who talks on “Vin Skully” returns here for the outro.
The Caliphate (feat. Vince Staples)
Easily a highlight that lands only on the streaming and physical versions of Voir Dire, “The Caliphate” is the closest thing we get to a trap beat on the album. The haunting beat features a gorgeous string run accompanied by piano and vocal cuts. The drums are simple but effective, with a subby trap bass head-bopping the song along. The song features Earl and Vince trading bars, but Earl definitely gets more bars and damn near steals the show in his third verse. Vince ends with a rare 5 bar verse before the outro goes to a tuned down sample with Miriam Makeba speaking over it.
Free The Ruler
Both the streaming versions and the Web3 version of the album end with “Free The Ruler”. Named after the late LA rapper Drakeo The Ruler, who was incarcerated from 2018-2020 before his death in 2021. The beat features vocal stacks alongside a flickering piano and somber drums. Earl comes in with the final thoughts as he talks through more life lessons and reflection, much as he has on the entire project. The song is a perfect ride out before fading into a battle scene sample to finish the album.
My Brother, The Wind
This song is featured as track 12 on the physical and track 5 on the Web3 version. The song is surrounded by a soul chop with a synth and vocal chop. Earl raps about being around LA and living his best life while tackling the beat right on versus riding the beat.
Geb
Track 13 on the physical and track 9 on the Web3, “Geb” features another classic Alchemist chop with a nice texture of strings and horns alongside a foreign woman coming in for half of the end phrases. A longer cut on the album, Earl raps a stellar verse before heading into a refrain. The beat fades out into a discussion about bacteria.
All The Small Things
Only featured on the Web3 edition as track 4, this song is not a Blink-182 cover. The angelic sample sample is a beautiful synth collage with bouncy bass and over-reverberated drums. A shame it’s not in the streaming version off the beat alone, Earl raps a solid verse with one reference to the pop-punk band.

100 High Street
Seen Skeppy out in Shoreditch
He said the telly for the hoes
Keep them heifers off ya doorstep
Geese fеathers under forehеads
Vin Skully
Big mama with the vision of sorrow, now I know why they wept
I watched it brew into a quarrel, I know just what to bet
Now we halvin' like Dewey Cox out in the shed
I had to unify all the plurals in pairs
Sentry
Tough clay, all of it's red
Stuck in the jeans and the fabric, and the twenty-three little strands
Freddie Hubbard sing through the ax
Chop another piece off the branch
Heat Check
I caught a whiff of sidewinder slitherin' in the vine
And listened, his hissin' like spinnin' vinyl
This cylindrical system of life, vicious cycles
Mice give up when it's dinnertime
The 6ix9ine style snitching spiteful
Mine the biggest, but I'm staying tight-lipped
In addition, I ain't switching sides
Mancala
Uh, I recollect all the pain I had to author, fresh
Wading out in the waves, foot on a colonizer neck like a collar, curtailed
I'm tryna follow the trail
Cut off the coattails they hangin' on to, I plo—
I plot on how to prevail and drop gems like Mancala
When I'm put on the spot I don't bail
My mama always be there
27 Braids
My mama sayin' that I'll never be alone
Even though she gotta know that I know she dismayed
With the choices I made
The only way forward is unafraid and focused when I'm holdin' these reins
Yell "thanks" over my shoulder to my auntie Elaine
Mac Deuce
Don't be shocked I couldn't save you from your thoughts or what the fame do
From the sharks and what they fangs do
Or from your heart and what that pain do
From the start, built a box I couldn't break through
You was lost
I picked apart, what amazed you, it was soft
Sirius Blac
Windows open, I know this breeze
Lucifer son of the morning
I'll let you talk yourself to sleep
These niggas scared of morals
I just went pro for the Justice League
Dead Zone
Have the pull-out like a flatbed, get it crackin' like cueballs
Plastered on the wall like a fathead in a pool hall
Mastiff, the dog really that big
Action, true story, they all caption
The Caliphate
Holyfield when I go to him, talk
Ayy, bro, you know I'm not involved
We eagles on attack, big dog
Talons full of snacks
I couldn't kiss away my last
My Brother, The Wind
What's goin' on? I’m in the mall with the Jordan face
High as Hell
Keep the reggie, off a seventy of wedding cake
Geb
Father Time told us the frog leap was over
We outside and they in the front lawn bitin' they tongue
It's on tuck like Doubtfire, close as a secret
My mouth shut 'til the bag wired then I release
All The Small Things
Turn the lights off, carry me home
Keep ya head still, the battle uphill
Stillwater's got depth, don't hold your breath
Or hold your breath

What Sam finds most inspiring about this material is the way their camaraderie and their love and joy for the music, simply oozes out of each recording. It is also impressive how deeply they get beneath their favorite songs—whether they are originals, covers or traditional/old time tunes—and how expertly that material was curated. 2023.02.19 02:14 hairgag WIBTA for telling my boss that my coworker cut their hair?

I work as a receptionist at an art museum. It's a lovely job, there are usually two of us at the front desk to greet guests and take admissions. The job itself is fantastic, but I have a coworker (nonbinary) who is a bit of a problem. They are not the sharpest tool in the shed. Forgetting critical procedures, neglecting cleaning duties, misbalancing ledgers, struggling with the basic arithmetic necessary to do the job. It's a thorn in everyone's side, and we get plenty of complaints about their behavior from disgruntled guests and other employees.
So I'm working the desk with them today, and head to the bathroom to browse reddit and drop a deuce. I was gone maybe ten minutes tops. When I get back to the desk, they have their selfie cam up, a pair of office scissors in their hand, and they are GIVING THEMSELVES A WHOLE ASS HAIRCUT. I didn't fully realize it until I got behind the desk and there is a PILE OF HAIR ON THE DESK. The desk we all work at. It was a single big handful of cut hair. They were annoyed at their hair being in their face, and started cutting their own bangs. On the fly. At work. You shouldn't be cutting your own bangs in the best of times, let alone AT THE FRONT DESK OF AN ART MUSEUM. They turned out terrible, go figure.
I tried to articulate why that was NOT an appropriate workplace activity, but honestly don't think the point landed. Now the communal keyboard has hair in it. They cleaned up the pile and there was still hair in the cracks and crevices of our workstation. I'm trying not to gag. They kept fussing with it and checking it the rest of the day, and every time they tussled it, more hair poofed out! It's disgusting, something about someone else's hair clippings in my shit and my workspace just got my stomach churning.
So here's the rub. Would I be the asshole if I reported the incident to our boss? They are already on thin ice, and I know bossman is as frustrated with their behavior as much as the rest of us. But this whole impromptu hair salon situation has crossed a line for me. Would saying something just be escalating it? I wouldn't want to be the reason someone gets fired. Especially not for something as mind-numbingly clueless as using customer facing job time to cut your damn hair. I don't want to project anything onto them, but I honestly think that they are neurodivergent or on the spectrum, and this job is one of the only things going for them. They really love working here, but I really love not having to touch someone's hair clippings when I work. Am I overreacting?
So WIBTA is I narced to my boss about my coworker's unappreciated performance art?
TLDR: Receptionist coworker cut their own hair at the front desk of an art museum. It's gross.

2022.12.14 04:38 PlusUltraK [TOMT] [FILM] [1990’s] An old movie by “Duece” or something similar

So there’s some old movie well before 2000. I remember watching with my mom when I was younger.
The premise was some genius brained preteen. Already in College/or boarding school and he’s on his way home for the holidays but gets chartered by the current boyfriend of his mom/stepdad.
The movie might’ve been “Deuces to Deuces” or something different and even The name of the child.(a boy)
But he’s a stuck up ungrateful smart ass , and learns across the movie that he likes his Stepdad/moms boyfriend and they bond.
Scenes I know for sure happen are,
the films intro opens on him(the kid) cleaning his keyboard, with a air-duster and later on In The film they lose the car in a train accident and hail/call a cab from some random bar

2022.04.29 05:00 flearmus Monster High 2022 Repros Info - All we know

Monster High 2022 Repros Info - All we know
So, I've seen people ask about the repros and I thought it would be easy to just make a post with everything that I know. Hopefully this will catch people up! If I am missing anything let me know.
I'm really sorry that this is likely super poorly written. I been super busy this month so I been super sleepy. I also am having issues with my keyboard.
Links to pictures in case they don't load are in the comments.
-

Who:

The 2022 repros will follow Frankie Stein, Clawdeen Wolf, Lagoona Blue, and Draculaura. It is unknown if we will be getting repros of Ghoulia, Cleo, Deuce, or anyone else as of right now.

Where:

They will likely be released internationally due to the fact they have international packaging but this is just speculation. There isn't a concrete answer as of yet.

When:

May 13th, 2022 is when the dolls are speculated set to release. They were, very very briefly, released in Mattel retail stores before they were taken off shelves. They were released ahead of time, hence why they were removed.
Important note: International release will be different from US release! There are still problems going on with international shipping so they may not hit shelves everywhere right away or at all. Depending on where they may hit international shelves later in 2022 or sometime in 2023.

Price:

The dolls are going to be an alleged $25USD. I don't know the international price.

Stores:

Stores, at this point, are just speculation but for US releases they might show up at:
  • Walmart
  • Target
  • Mattel Retail
If anyone has any other stores, let me know!

The Box:

  • Boxes are a combination between the 2010 originals packaging and 2011-14 window. Here is a good video talking about the 2008/2010 boxes and the 2011 [https://youtu.be/PSZK9JeriMc].
  • The coffin window on the original boxes has been changed to a slightly less prominent wider coffin-like shape.
  • Catchphrases on the box have been replaced with "Boo-riginal Creeproduction" (I love the puns).
  • The phrase "Freaky Just Got Fabulous" has been removed from the repro box.
  • The character's "Freaky Flaws" have been removed from the back of the box.
  • The character's unique skullette remains in place, however, their character symbol was moved to the other side of the box.
  • 2022 repros have unique mixtapes related to each character.
  • Repros have larger "character items" like, Clawdeen's paw print and Lagoona's seahorse, above their name.
  • The open window on the top of the box has been replaced with a chain pattern and a unique quote for each doll.

The Dolls:

  • Screening is different than the originals.
  • Sculpts look more or less the same.
  • Articulation is at the head, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and knees like in the original dolls.
  • Body sculpts are 2010 but joint pegs for their elbows and wrists are the 2016 ones.
  • Dolls come with their pet, accessories, diary, brush, and stand.
  • Colors might have more saturation than originals.
  • The diaries are ASSUMABLY the same.
  • No more glue-filled heads - Mattel is using a different rerooting method so hair is less likely to get sticky, crusty, and yellow!
  • Their saran hair is at length with the originals.
  • Their elastic hip joints are likely made out of plastic, like in later dolls.
Note: I never owned a first wave doll of any of these 4 ghouls so I'm just going off of what I visibly notice and what I have seen others say.
Frankie Stein:
Frankie Stein 2022 VS 2010
First things first, her face. First wave Frankie has lower set eyebrows, prominent darker eyeshadow, and seemingly darker lipstick. Repro Frankie has higher set eyebrows and an overall more scrunched face. The way she was screened in repro accentuates her large forehead. Overall face wise, she looks very Frankie and pretty cute.
Her hair has a slight bump but other than that her hair is pretty similar to her original doll.
Her clothing looks like it might have a bit more red and her shirt seems to be shorter. She still comes with her studded belt, chain, lighting belt buckle, tie w/ skull clip, bracelet, and her black and red purse. Her shoes remain the same, white and black platformed pumps.
Her stitches are still outlined in black and colored in silver. She still comes with her bolts.
Watzit looks the same, very cute.
Clawdeen Wolf:
Clawdeen Wolf 2022 VS 2010
Clawdeen's eye makeup looks like it's more silver and sparkly than in her original, she is also wearing it heavier. Her eyes also look like they might be a little rounder, however, it might be the angle. Her lipstick and fangs remain the same.
Her hair looks the same as does her overall sculpt.
The faux fur part of her coat looks like it might be a little longer but it might be the angle. She still comes with her studded choker, necklace, earrings, studded belt, black purse with purple belts + yellow zippers, her knee-highs, and her black buckled shin-high boots. Her zebra print shirt with a ruffled collar still rides just below her belly button and her purple skirt still has a tulle trim.
Her hands have her clawed sculpt and her ears are sculpted on her head.
Crescent looks pretty much the same.
Lagoona Blue:
Lagoona Blue 2022 VS 2010
I hate to inform but Lagoona's big fish eyes have been removed. Now her eyes are smaller and more human-like. She still has purple eyebrows, freckles, and puckered lips. Her eye makeup might be slightly less heavy, hard to tell. Her lips are lighter and more metallic.
She still comes with her blonde and blue swept fringe though it looks like there is more blue towards the front of her hair.
She comes with her fishbowl bag, seahorse necklace, earrings, hooded jacket w/ fins, flower, shorts, leg things (idk what they're called), bracelets, and black + pink fish scaled top. Her shoes remain the exact same as well. Her clothing seems to be in a thicker material.
Her detachable leg fins will come different from her first wave, they are more translucent but they share the same sculpt.
Lagoona's doll stand has been switched to a standard one.
Neptuna is the same.
Draculaura:
Draculaura 2022 VS 2010
From what I've seen, she looks like she has a smile and her heart is higher up on her face. Her fangs are slightly more curved. Her eyeshadow is less vibrant as well.
She still has her black and pink twin tails and bangs but her hair has slightly more pink.
She still wears a hot pink button-up with a white lace collar. Her sleeves are still black tulle-like fabric with white lace reaching down to her wrists. Her skirt is white with hot pink stitching and white tulle trim. She still has her stockings and her pink shin-high laced heeled boots with hearts painted silver and outline black on the tongue. Her umbrella has a bat handle and is closed together with a pink strap that has a silver heart clip. Her silver safety pin earrings remain as they were as does her pink necklace.
Her sculpt is the same once again. She is, unfortunately, not shorter than her ghoulfriends... hopefully one day we can get her with a shorter body.
Count-Fabulous is the same.
-
I wrote up a conclusion but it didn't save so... take 2:
Overall, the ghouls stay pretty true to their original first releases. The biggest difference is their friendlier faces but that's about it. Their outfits look to be in a wide array of fabrics just like the original dolls.
Their pets use the same sculpts and look pretty cute.
Their 2016 styled joint pegs for their hands and elbows will hopefully help ensure that they are less likely to fall off or break. The lack of glue in their head is also a major win for collectors, customizers, and general consumers.
All in all, these dolls are definitely well worth the $25USD they're alleged to be!
In summary, the dolls, Frankie, Clawdeen, Lagoona, and Draculaura, will likely be released in US stores like Walmart + Target on May 13th, 2022 for around $25. They will likely see international release in late 2022 to somewhere in 2023 though it hasn't yet been confirmed.
-
I hope this answers some people's questions! It took me a while to write up, mainly cuz I kept misspelling has and I swear I am not like idk what is going on today...
Anyways, if you wanna buy from a scalper... BOOO don't. Not worth it and it ruins it for everyone.
Overall, the dolls are pretty cute! Lagoona has me a bit sad, I loved her big old fish eyes. Hopefully in later dolls they return.
Please please PLEASE let me know if I am missing anything.

2021.12.27 11:28 HUSKERTRIPLEDEUCE Connected Focusrite 18i20 to, two computers MacBook & Windows

I will give a little bit of background before I just dive into what I did that way its not all just buried in my text. Firstly, what I am doing for me is total over-kill. It is not necessary. However, I am retired and have nothing better to do than to come up with projects and I am a total tech-nerd. I am a a student in music production at LA Film School and I am also a gamer and computer nerd as well. When I game I want to experience it and feel like I am there. I feel the same way for movies as well. I have been thinking for a little bit how could I share my sound system between the gaming system and the mac which handles my music.
Alright, now that, that is out of the way let me tell you what I did and why that way if you guys want to do it you can and it will be saved here on the internet.
I thought for a little while how I would do this. I thought maybe a USB-C to USB-B that would "Y" out. I did not like the idea of that though and the reason is no matter what input you are on it is still possible to send two signals at once to the sound system and would be dangerous to run both at the same time. However, in theory that would work. Instead I looked for a USB-Switch. This way I could put 1 USB input that would go out to TWO USB which would goto each computer. The way I would switch which device it is on is by hitting a button on the USB Switch and by doing that you will not run the risk of sending signals from each system at once to the same sound system.
When I had thought of it, I figured in theory it would work (I could not find much information on the internet about it which is why i am making this post) I will add photos below the post. But, I ordered a SABRENT USB 3.0 Power Switch. it was cheap. It worked plug and play. I did not have to mess around with it at all. I get all the sound benefits on the gaming i9 PC and the MacBook 16 that I use for my music. I also because I am sharing the amp I also get the headphones and mic as well which will be great for streaming. I am sure you could do this with multiple macs or windows PC's as well and put this to use for other things that maybe YOU want to use it for but this is why I did it and how I did it.
- HUSKER Triple-Deuce
Gaming PC i9
SABRENT USB 3.0 Sharing Switch got on amazon CHEAP!
My set up. MacBook on the left under the monitor and gaming PC on the right. I also have my surf the internet macbook just chilin. I share the same keyboard and Monitor and sound system. When I swap between the computers the only thing I have to do is change mice. Which is easy because I just pick it up on the right hand side. The keyboard has a switch that says Bluetooth and 2.4 GHZ to swap you hit the switch on the keyboard and BAM! it works flawless.

  • Streetpass stones, a place in the immigrant town to go online to trade them with other players. Bringing streetpass stones to the immigrant town unlocks new dungeons, and special story scenes. You can also get Streetpass Stones by making a party of monsters from your monster park and sending them into a special randomly generated dungeon.
  • Party member appearance change immediately after switching vocations, with designs being made for several vocations for the first time.
  • The Shrine of Mysteries, formerly the Ancient Fane, has been overhauled; it is much smaller and therefore requires less trekking since its quests were split into new areas.
  • Some boss battles have been dropped.
  • The time-warp sequence from the PSX version is only used once. Similarly, an animation of a pedestal spinning as the player is warped has been replaced by an effect of being drawn into the destination island enveloped in light.
  • Revised orchestral soundtrack.
  • The game's text has been revised in the fashion of previous remakes; it now uses a mixture of Commonwealth English and regional dialects from other parts of the world (in the form of eye dialect and/or direct translation). The names of people and places were also changed; and of course, more puns were added.
  • Party member appearance also changes immediately for monster vocations, not just upon rank 8 mastery like in the PS1 version.
  • Weapons and shields are displayed in battle, some of which are animated.
  • Vocation ranks require fewer battles to advance, with some losing as much as 40% of their mandate.
  • Spells/skills for second and third tier vocations are only usable when in that class, giving the last part of the main game more balance.
  • Overall simplification and re-balancing of which vocations get which skills, including elimination of the hybrid skill system. The skills in question have not been removed, however, and are now available through normal vocation advancement.
  • Maribel now learns the Bang spell naturally, making the scenarios prior to unlocking the vocations easier.
  • The Tidal Wave skill has been removed in response to the Kanto Earthquake disaster of 2011. Enemies that used the skill now use Jolly Rager instead, with the damage range lowered to that of Tidal Wave's for balance.

~ Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1): Vs Final Fantasy Tactics English version (PS1) Vs Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP/iOS/Android) ~:

Final Fantasy Tactics (English version) - PS1:

When the PS1 game was localized for western release, a lot of changes were made:
  • The font size on the map screen, battle titles, and victory condition screens is smaller.
  • Generic character quotes on the menu screen, viewed by pressing Select on the unit's name, are replaced with an ellipsis.
  • JP costs are lowered for most abilities and job unlocking.
  • Some abilities charge faster, including Summons, some Time Mage abilities, and the Mystic's Induration.
  • Several party members, including Ramza, Delita, Orran, and Cloud, have improved stats.
  • Some bosses, including Belias, Cuchulainn, and Wiegraf in Chapter I, have reduced stats.
  • Several boss units, such as Elmdore, no longer have the Safeguard ability, making it possible to break or steal their equipment.
  • The four Sound Novel minigames are unavailable to the player and left untranslated within the data.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions - PSP:

  • Virtually all dialogues, locations, characters/monsters, items, abilities and jobs are retranslated (e.g. Priest is now called White Mage; Cidolfas Orlandu is now called Cidolfus Orlandeau); English versions now have text in Early Modern English.
    • Some status icons are changed in the English versions to reflect their new names.
  • The English versions have a larger font, more like the one seen in the Japanese releases. Menus and text boxes are unchanged.
  • A 16:9 aspect ratio is used.
    • This allows the party roster screen to display more characters per row.
  • Audio quality is reduced somewhat.
  • Versions outside of Japan now use X to confirm and Circle to cancel, rather than the opposite.
  • The Lion War and Job Demonstration attract mode videos no longer play when waiting at the title screen.
  • Fully animated movies with voices and subtitles now replace some specific key story cut-scenes (the Japanese version does not contain voice acting); this includes the intro and ending sequences (which were CG movies in the original game).
  • When choosing Ramza's birthdate, the corresponding zodiac sign is now displayed.
  • A new calendar now displays dates in the zodiac format (e.g. Aries 12) rather than using the Gregorian Calendar (January to December).
  • Additional story battles, side-quests, and events are added.
  • Two new jobs are added: Onion Knight and Dark Knight.
  • Two new characters are added: Luso from Final Fantasy Tactics A2 and Balthier from Final Fantasy XII.
  • Cloud can be recruited earlier in Chapter IV after completing Fort Besselat, rather than after defeating Adrammelech.
  • Delita is briefly playable in two battles.
  • Roster size is increased from 16 to 24.
  • The special quotes when using abilities during battle (such as White Magic and Swordplay) are removed from the English versions.
  • The attack name of a summon spell or Iaido ability is now displayed in the English versions, rather than the name of the summon or katana.
  • Generic character quotes are now unique in the English versions.
  • Changes to JP costs, ability charge times, character and enemy stats, and Safeguard in the localized versions are adjusted to match the original Japanese version.
  • Unyielding Blade skills from Meliadoul, Folmarv and Orlandeau have been upgraded to damage enemies even if they're not using the specific piece of equipment (although they will still fail if said enemy has the Safeguard ability); this means monsters can also be damaged by these skills.
  • Rapha and Marach's Chakra abilities result in 1~10 random strikes instead of 1~6, and are more accurate. Reis's Holy Breath ability also has 1~10 strikes instead of 1~6.
  • All of Rapha's abilities are now learnable as soon as she joins the party in Chapter III, instead of most being unavailable until Chapter IV.
  • Wiegraf's stats when fought in Chapter III are reduced.
  • The Fort Besselat sluice battle in Chapter IV now ends when all enemies are defeated, instead of after throwing a pair of switches.
  • The sound novels are only available in the Japanese version.
  • A Multiplayer system with two game modes is added via Ad-Hoc.
  • New items are available, mostly obtained through Multiplayer.
  • All game-breaking glitches are fixed, including the JP scroll glitch, Weapon duplication bug, Poach bug, Ghost Chocobo riding glitch, Quickening glitch, and Jump glitches.
    • The Oil status now properly doubles damage received from fire attacks rather than having no effect.
  • Every time a spell is cast or a certain action is performed, the game slows down.

    • "Retry Offset" feature to lower the difficulty of battle with each attempt if desired
    • Turbo Mode
    • Skippable S-crafts (limit breaks).
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Trails in the Sky Evolution Trilogy - Vita:

This detailed and great list is courtesy of u/Mondblut, and if you want the full breakdown, you can check their thread here. Here is the simplified version:
  • new character art (by Ito Akira and Nakahata Tomoaki) closer to the current Trails or rather Falcom character art (mostly inspired by Enami Katsumi's art for Zero no Kiseki)
  • character portraits are fully animated (similar to Persona 5)
  • new modernized UI closely resembling the one seen in Zero no Kiseki and later Trails games like Trails of Cold Steel
  • new modernized/streamlined battle menus (ring menu, different tabs for Arts subcategories)
  • new full body character art with animated eyes/lips in certain instances (when a new character introduces herself/himself - if my memory serves right full body character art in general has only been introduced in SC's original version)
  • each of the three games has its own color scheme for menu elements and text boxes: FC -> orange/gold, SC -> dark blue, 3rd -> green
  • full screen scene CG art for certain key moments similar to what many visual novels do (though I have to say that these CG do obfiscuate some nice 2D in game sequences unnecessarily)
  • new 2D character cut-ins for S-Crafts
  • fully voiced (about 4 times the amount of voiced lines compared to the Cold Steel games - voices are patchable into the PC version though, I recommend it)
  • arranged OST (the original OST was made available via DLC, the fan patch gives you an option whether you want to use the Evo or original OST)
  • changes/additions to the battle system (added random turn effects, new Quartz from later games, changed debuffs/buffs for Crafts)
  • turbo mode for battles only (the PC version has turbo for outside of battles as well, the PSP version had no turbo mode at all)
  • bonus multiplyer for XP depending on how well you fight (also something introduced in Zero and added in the Evo version of Trails in the Sky)
  • you can attack and stun enemies on the field to get an advantage in-battle (something that was first introduced in Zero no Kiseki + all subsequent Trails games and implemented in the Sora Evo versions)
  • New Arts and Craft animations
  • press X to fast forward events
  • some changes to the environments (different textures in some places, in general the original version has sharpemore detailed but darker, less colorfull textures, while the Evo version has some places completely re-textured with more vibrant colors similar to Zero no Kiseki but at the cost of being less sharp and less detailed, which is also due to the Vita's lower native resolution)
  • if you want to choose arts you no longer have all arts in one consecutive list but have different subcategories of arts (attack, support and so on).
  • certain crafts have new additional bonus status effects added.
  • due to many changes in the battle system the difficulty is lower than in the originals and for veteran turn based JRPG fans I recommend FC Evo on hard to test the waters, it's the easiest of the trilogy and difficulty wise comparable to CS2 on hard
  • Additional random turn effects like 0 CP cost for Crafts and S-Crafts

~ Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii): Vs Xenoblade Chronicles (3DS) Vs Xenoblade Chronicles:Definitive Edition (Switch) ~:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D - 3DS:

The game for the most part hasn't changed, other than the obvious downgrade in graphics, to run adequately on the 3DS, and that the HUD and other functions have been split between the two screens. The notable changes/additions are:
  • A Gallery where you can:
    • Buy and view character and enemy animated models.
    • Buy soundtracks from the game to listen to at any time in the gallery. The only way to buy these things in the gallery, is through tokens, which you get by spending play coins, using the Shulk Amiibo once per day to get 3 tokens each day, or collecting streepass tags.
  • Unlike the Wii version, only one dub language is available, so for the English version, there is only the English dub.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Xenoblade Chronicles:Definitive Edition - Switch:

Of course there is the obvious remastered HD graphics and animations for the entire game, and even changes to some of the gear skins and colors. But the most notable changes are:
  • Newly arranged soundtrack. Not every song has been re-recorded but most have.
  • There's an option to switch between remastered and original soundtrack.
  • Combat arts now have markers that show when the player is in the right position to take advantage of their additional effects.
  • Auto-run has been added
  • The UI has been updated and reworked for easier and better menu navigation.
  • They added a sidequest helper, which leads you to needed areas, and also marks the monsters or drops you need to collect.
  • Colony 6 Reconstruction has been made easier, and money and materials for each category can be checked at any time on the * menu.
  • You can two sets of gear, one equipped for the stats, and another for fashion, where it only affects how the character looks. .
  • Casual Mode lowers difficulty even more.
  • Expert Mode allows you to level-down your characters for more challenge and stockpiling their exp, or simply transfer exp from one character to another.
  • An Event Theater allows players to rewatch cutscenes.
  • Time Attack Mode lets players take on new challenge battles with a time limit.
  • Anyone with save data for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will get 100,000 Gold upon starting
And last but not least, Future Connected, a whole extra epilogue episode, that takes place a year after the main story of the game has ended. Where you control Melia and Shulk in a 10-20 hour story that expands on what happened after the main story was finished.

This is just part 2, if you have any suggestions for titles to be in part 3, please post them here.

2021.03.14 11:04 MeanMrMusician Dream Setlist

One of my favorite music channels, Sea of Tranquillity, has a series called Dream Setlist where the host, Pete Pardo, takes a band and discusses what he thinks would be the dream set that the band could play - any era, any venue, any songs, any tour (real or fictional). Since he is not a Beach Boys fan, and so I couldn't see people discussing it on his channel, I thought I'd construct a dream set that the Beach Boys could play.
So here we go. We're doing July 1986, and it's the "Made in U.S.A." Tour. What better place to play than the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California?
The lineup:
THE BEACH BOYS
Mike Love (vocals)
Brian Wilson (vocals, keyboards)
Carl Wilson (vocals, guitar)
Al Jardine (vocals)
Bruce Johnston (vocals)
TOURING BAND
Billy Hinsche (vocals, guitar, keyboards)

Ed Carter (bass)
Mike Kowalski (drums)
Bobby Figueroa (percussion)
Mike Meros (keyboards)
SPECIAL GUESTS

Ricky Fataar (vocals, drums)
Charles Lloyd (flute)
The setlist is as follows (lead vocalists noted):

  3. Surfin' U.S.A. (Surfin' U.S.A., 1963 - Mike)
  4. I Get Around (All Summer Long, 1964 - Mike)
  5. Help Me, Rhonda (Summer Days (and Summer Nights!), 1965 - Al)
  6. California Girls (Summer Days (and Summer Nights!), 1965 - Mike)
Blondie and Ricky come out
  1. Sail On, Sailor (Holland, 1973 - Blondie)
  2. Here She Comes (Carl and the Passions - So Tough!, 1972 - Ricky)
  3. Marcella (Carl and the Passions - So Tough!, 1972 - Mike/Carl/Blondie)
  4. Feel Flows (Surf's Up, 1971 - Carl [feat. Charles Lloyd])
  5. Leaving This Town (Holland, 1973 - Ricky)
Blondie and Ricky leave, intermission #1
  1. Don't Worry Baby (Shut Down, Vol. 2, 1964 - Brian)
  2. It's OK (15 Big Ones, 1976 - Mike/Carl)
  3. Wild Honey (Wild Honey, 1967 - Carl)
  4. Darlin' (Wild Honey, 1967 - Carl)
  5. Surfer Girl (Surfer Girl, 1963 - Brian/Carl [bridge])
  6. Surfin' Safari (Surfin' Safari, 1962 - Mike)
  7. 409 (Surfin' Safari, 1962 - Mike)
  8. Shut Down (Surfin' U.S.A., 1963 - Mike)
  9. Little Deuce Coupe (Surfer Girl, 1963 - Mike/Brian)
  10. Do You Wanna Dance? (Today!, 1965 - Brian)
  11. Catch a Wave (Surfer Girl, 1963 - Mike/Brian)
  12. Disney Girls (1957) (Surf's Up, 1971 - Bruce)
  13. The Night Was So Young (Love You, 1977 - Brian)
  14. Let Him Run Wild (Summer Days (and Summer Nights!), 1965)
  15. All I Wanna Do (Sunflower, 1970 - Mike)
  16. In My Room (Surfer Girl, 1963 - Brian)
Intermission #2
  1. Dance, Dance, Dance (Today!, 1965 - Mike/Brian)
  2. When I Grow Up (to Be a Man) (single, 1964 / Today!, 1965 - Mike/Brian)
  3. Be True to Your School (single, 1963 - Mike)
  4. Wouldn't It Be Nice (Pet Sounds, 1966 - Brian)

  9. California Dreamin' (Made in U.S.A., 1986 - Carl)
  10. Come Go with Me (M.I.U. Album, 1978 - Al)
  11. Rock and Roll Music (15 Big Ones, 1976 - Mike)
Encore
  1. Fun, Fun, Fun (Shut Down, Vol. 2, 1964 - Mike)
  2. Barbara Ann (Party!, 1965 - Mike/Brian)
  3. Heroes and Villains (single / Smiley Smile, 1967 - Brian/Mike)
  4. Good Vibrations (single, 1966 / Smiley Smile, 1967 - Carl/Mike)
NOTE: Songs I took out to shorten the setlist include "I Can Hear Music", "California", "All Summer Long", "Good Timin'", and "I'll Bet He's Nice".
Now, I know that that is a really long setlist, but this is The Beach Boys we're talking about, and I think they could probably do it (they have ample breaks, too).
So we got a little bit of everything here, including every song on Made in U.S.A., plus many of the other hits and some deep cuts. Will the audience know "Here She Comes", "Disney Girls", or "Leaving This Town"? I'll say no, but again, this is the Dream Setlist. One song I wanted to put here but didn't was "Forever". Unlike "Do You Wanna Dance?", I feel like Forever goes with Dennis, and it would seem disrespectful if anyone else sang it.
I encourage you guys to try and make your own dream setlists. Remember: virtually no restrictions. You can do any era, any venue, any tour (past, present, future, or fictional), and any songs. You can even do like Brian's band has done before and do full album playthroughs. Anyway, looking forward to seeing the responses!

2020.08.19 14:42 BloodyMess One Comprehensive List of YouTube Music Frustrations

I've been watching YouTube Music threads here, and done my share of complaining. But I wanted to create and track a comprehensive list of everyone's frustrations.
I've written down my own and those I recall seeing here. If you have any to add, or if I'm wrong about any of these, let me know (and specify if it happens in Browser, App or both if you can). I will update this post.

1. General UI/UX

a. Uploads are hidden in separate drop-downs, making anyone who solely listens to uploaded music a second-class citizen and requires extensive menu navigation to access uploaded music at all. As noted, it takes four clicks just to get to your uploads, e.g. Library > Songs > Drop down > Uploads. It also doesn't save your last setting, ensuring maximum frustration. (thanks, OverKy & Dragon911X) (BrowseApp)
b. Library is a tab, but it confusingly doesn’t mean uploads - uploads are hidden in a drop down. (BrowseApp)
c. No Album sub-listing for artists in uploaded music. “Albums” as a top-level alphabetical tab by album name is nearly worthless, since most people (and competing apps, and GPM) organize by artist before album. (BrowseApp)
d. Similarly hidden search for uploaded artists or songs, kept separate. Initial results confusingly only return Youtube videos. (BrowseApp)
e. YTM landing page & app startup screen is full of unhelpful, unwanted information such as recommended music videos, artist pages, location-based recommendations, and is a barrier to accessing music. (BrowseApp)
f. Search results have “Add to Library” for albums and tracks already in library, and it’s not clear if this will overwrite existing uploads. (BrowseApp)
g. Android Auto head unit interface is terrible. (thanks, yottabit42) (App)
h. "In My Library" within each artist doesn't prioritize uploaded/liked content; don't want to scroll through dozens of albums to see the albums I like. (thanks, nerveworm) (BrowseApp)
i. No Genre sorting or tab (thanks, Uncle-Eevee) (BrowseApp)
j. No "last added" auto list for uploads. (thanks, CoogleGhrome) (BrowseApp)
k. Artist names sometimes not present in search results. (thanks, Dio-V) (BrowseApp)
l. Thumbs Up/Down are reversed from GPM UI. (thanks, stealthgyro) (BrowseApp)
m. No swiping left/right to go to the next/last song. (daveyjones0017 however reports that this works) (thanks, _Nipples_) (App)
n. Delete From Library functions are in the mobile app menus in a way that may cause accidental deletions. (thanks, puxui666) (App)
o. Playlist and song controls not on same page (also present in GPM, but desirable nonetheless). (thanks, doublemp) (BrowseApp)
p. Vertical scroll can be misinterpreted as a horizontal swipe, removing a song. (also present in GPM, but desirable nonetheless). (thanks, doublemp) (BrowseApp)
q. No offline mode toggle (which could fix many of these issues). (thanks, kirksucks) (App)
r. Forced to use primary / non-brand YouTube account, requiring constant switching and preventing simultaneous use of both music and brand YouTube account. (thanks, OverKy) (Browser)
s. In the queue, you must be playing a track before the name of the artist or album is hotlinked in the list. (thanks, OverKy) (BrowseApp)
t. On browsers (dunno about the app), the video progress bar is far away from the video. (thanks, OverKy) (Browser)
u. Deleting Uploads is a one-by-one process, no batch-select. Unworkable for more than single files. (thanks, OverKy) (BrowseApp)
v. The mini player overlaps clickable buttons on smaller displays (e.g., 1366x768). (thanks, outroverso) (Browser)
w. No cover scroll for the library. (thanks, morgenman) (BrowseApp)
x. Can't sort uploads search by Albums/Playlists/Artists/etc. (clicking Uploads, then Albums gives only YT results) (BrowseApp)
y. Can not unlike song where you added it as an album (greyed out). Must dislike the song to remove it. (thanks, thedarksyde) (BrowseApp)
z. Missing keyboard shortcuts compared with GPM. https://imgur.com/a/cgKb2Rv (thanks, stealthgyro) (Browser)
aa. When downloading an album, can't delete individual songs. Similarly, cannot remove individual songs from added non-locker albums. (thanks, fela90 & nicoscience) (App)
bb. Song cover art from GPM doesn't transfer to YTM well and is often lost in the transfer.(thanks, puppetjax) (Browser & app)
cc. The app gives you a push notification each time the app "checks for incomplete downloads" which is like every day. (thanks, puppetjax) (App)
dd. When you add a compilation album with multiple artists to the Library it completely ignores the album artist, so you end up with multiple artists being added to the library instead. (thanks, mrajsaint) (BrowseApp)
ee. Liking a song also adds it to your Library. Sometimes people just like the one song and don't particularly want the artist/album in their Library. (thanks, mrajsaint) (BrowseApp)
ff. Sometimes an album can change to "Private" and there's no way of deleting it without removing the album, but are unable to click on the album to remove it because it's been made private. (thanks, mrajsaint) (BrowseApp)
gg. Likes sorting is no longer in order of "time of like." (thanks, miester) (BrowseApp)
hh. Search doesn't work well for Uploads, burying relevant results lower than YT or GPM. (thanks, TheOvy) (BrowseApp)
ii. YTM will not display a UI in Android Auto at all unless you're on premium. Unsafe and unusable. (thanks, Edgeguy13) (BrowseApp)
jj. Keyboard music control buttons don't automatically work to play/skip in YTM. Update: turbotailz notes this appears to be a bug when Google Play Music Chrome extension is installed, and disappears when removed. (thanks, turbotailz) (BrowseApp)
kk. The mousewheel volume control on the YTM desktop player is ridiculously oversensitive. The mouse wheel only takes 10 clicks to get to min/maximum. GPM is about twice as much. (thanks, TheKhaosUK) (Browser)
ll. The "Favorites" category appears to be broken. E.g., albums listened to once are in it forever, and other repeated-listening albums are never added. (thanks, TheOvy) (BrowseApp)
mm. No switch between light and dark themes. (thanks, OneTouchDisaster) (BrowseApp)
nn. No tile/grid view option for content, just list view. (thanks, OneTouchDisaster and SeekingSublime) (BrowseApp)
oo. No 3-dot-menu links to "Go to artist" and "Go to album". (thanks, spando_calrissian) (BrowseApp)
pp. Playlist song text in the queue is no longer a clickable link to go back to a playlist view. (thanks, ultyguy) (Browser)
qq. YTM can't differentiate between similarly named artists, and just groups different artists with similar names. (thanks, girlikecupcake) (BrowseApp)
rr. Constant nags to upgrade to premium. (thanks, VimFueago) (BrowseApp)
ss. Articles are being used to alphabetize instead of being ignored. (e.g., "The Aftermath" is under "T" not "A") (thanks, stealthgyro) (BrowseApp)

2. Features

a. All artists, songs, albums, etc lists are loaded dynamically in chunks of ~10-20, requiring a scroll to load the next, instead of a locally-stored fast list. Coupled with the lack of search, this is objectively unworkable and makes quick scrolling impossible. It will take 10 minutes to even access an artist at the end of the alphabet in a large library. This is the only navigation method. (BrowseApp) (e.g., https://streamable.com/6hnpag )
b. Can't edit metadata. (thanks, Skyesdow and PineappleWishes) (BrowseApp)
c. Related to above, there are no quick-access alphabet letter tabs to quickly jump to different parts of lists of music. (BrowseApp)
d. No ability to sort Songs by Artists, Albums, etc. (thanks, alkjeks) (BrowseApp)
e. Uploaded tracks may be omitted or replaced with lower quality or censored versions after transfer. (NOTE: Some say they don't experience this) (thanks, stealthgyro) (BrowseApp)
f. Streaming uploads is capped at 128kbps AAC for free users, and 256kbps for Premium instead of 320kpbs. (NOTE: At Premium this issue may not matter, per THE_Celts, 256kbps AAC may be equivalent to 320kbps MP3) (BrowseApp)
g. Casting from browser appears broken. (Browser)
h. No casting of lockeupload music without paying for Premium (BrowseApp)
i. Non-Premium users can't cast music anymore, including Chromecast and Sonos. (thanks, theuser111122) (BrowseApp) This may have been fixed in the latest version (not yet verified). However, now ads appear to have been inserted into free tier Chromecast playback of uploaded music (ugh). (thanks, Norwahl42) (BrowseApp)
j. Casting directly to Sonos has been removed, even with a Premium account. You need to do it through the Sonos app with a terrible implementation. (thanks, redActarus) (App)
k. Can't thumbs up or down while offline to skip tracks or teach the service your interests . (thanks, Ryboto) (BrowseApp)
l. Can't thumbs up or down to skip tracks in Discovery Mix/New Release Radio (thanks, ryboto) (App)
m. Thumbs up in GPM has transferred to "Your Likes" in YTM, annoyingly mixing in YouTube video likes. (thanks, prodigalOne) (BrowseApp)
n. Family Link (child) accounts can't use, and receive an error on speakers, or redirect on screen devices. (thanks, yottabit42) (BrowseApp)
o. Native version lyrics don't display properly when there is an uploaded version. (thanks, forrest4trees009) (BrowseApp)
p. Different versions of uploaded songs replaced GPM versions in the YTM transfer process. (Thanks, Alove4edd47) (BrowseApp)
q. No play count or related sorted-by ability. (thanks, Gunsi73, OverKy & ultyguy) (BrowseApp)
r. No location-based playlists. (thanks, Gunsi73) (App)
s. You can't start radio from uploaded files. (Throwing songs in a playlist isn't a workaround, it has no idea what to play. https://imgur.com/a/eyan1ZN ). Machiventa858 clarified, you can, but only if the song is currently playing. (thanks, stealthgyro and Machiventa858) (BrowseApp)
t. No I'm Feeling Lucky button on widget. (thanks, Loudan32) (App)
u. Can't shuffle or repeat songs while casting to any Google products (incl. Chromecast, Chromecast audio, Google home hub, Lenovo smart display). (thanks, Covetingace) (BrowseApp)
v. Can't queue downloads while offline - download can only be initiated when connected. (thanks, LoueezClide) (App)
w. No visualizer, not even GPM's fireplace. (thanks, OverKy) (BrowseApp)
x. Official releases from major artists are lacking and filled in by poor quality Youtube versions, clean versions, or YTM simply prefers poor quality versions and "music video" versions instead of album versions. (thanks, demosthenes34, potato-truncheon & Gunsi73) (BrowseApp)
y. Subscribing/Following on YTM makes using normal YouTube difficult, mixes in with YouTube channel subscriptions. (thanks, MilwaukeeCitizen) (BrowseApp)
z. No caching ahead for albums or playlists, so instant audio-drops when signal is lost. (thanks, MilwaukeeCitizen) (App)
aa. No auto uploading PC client like GPM Manager. (thanks, MilwaukeeCitizen) (Browser)
bb. No Wear Os app. (thanks, zdogcypher) (App)
cc. No longer will cache your recently played music so that you could keep listening to your most played songs without manually telling it to download them. (thanks, mybloodismaplesyrup) (App)
dd. The songs you have downloaded sometimes randomly break or delete and YTM constantly checks for incomplete downloads. (thanks, puppetjax & MNBug) (App)
ee. No Android TV YTM App. (thanks, NexusApex) (App)
ff. No recents menu, including recently edited playlists. (e.g., https://i.imgur.com/YTxDFx0.png ) (thanks, Mr2-1782Man & ultyguy) (BrowseApp)
gg. App frequently crashes, self-restore takes a long time and may require a phone restart. (thanks, waterbogan) (App)
hh. Podcasts are no longer part of the service and require a separate app. (thanks, Mr2-1782Man) (BrowseApp)
ii. The Youtube Family Plan is much more restrictive than the Google Family Plan. (GPM is 6 family members regardless of residence; YTM requires all members be in the same residential address "confirmed by electronic check-ins every 30 days"; YTM has no under-13-year-olds policy that excludes family members) (thanks, t_newt1 and CaptainBlase) (BrowseApp)
jj. GPM had a sleep timer, YTM does not. (thanks, squishylime) (App)
kk. Downloading large amounts of songs is buggy and causes YTM to freeze and require reinstall. (thanks, MNBug) (App)
ll. Can't choose "Don't play explicit songs" in radio. (thanks, DRKMSTR) (BrowseApp)
mm. Radio stops after 20 or so songs. (thanks, MadAuto) (BrowseApp)
nn. No "identify what's playing" Shazam-like feature in YTM. (thanks, spando_calrissian) (App)
oo. Shuffling by artist sometimes includes other artists. (thanks, Agent_Tangerine) (BrowseApp)
pp. Tapping the widget doesn't open the app. (thanks, Agent_Tangerine) (App)
qq. YTM won't operate on Android Maximum Power Saving mode. (thanks, g1ants_) (App)
rr. YTM doesn't allow purchase of individual albums or songs (no music store). (thanks, Psychological_Meet46) (BrowseApp)
ss. Google Takeout is extremely unfriendly to downloading music compared to GPM, wrapping it in archive files and resulting in download errors often. (thanks, MadGenius123) (BrowseApp)
tt. Closing the player stops playing on the widget (unlike GPM). (thanks, deztroyer99) (App)
uu. In "Clean" mode, explicit versions still pop up in recommended, and instead of playing clean versions, selecting explicit versions just stops playback. (thanks, Sure-Ad7730) (BrowseApp)
vv. Similarly, in "Clean" mode, many clean versions of songs will not appear in searches. (thanks, xykor) (BrowseApp)
ww. Uploads don't play in YTM in other countries, unlike GPM. (thanks, ZenKimchi) (BrowseApp)
xx. Random songs seem to be missing from the YouTube Music library in app - unlike 3.j. below, this is apparently due to a bug interaction with content filtering YouTube does on GSuite domain networks with explicit tracks. (thanks, derekpovah) (App)

3. Playlists

a. Can't include uploaded music and streaming music on the same playlist. Note:Omega_Maximum noted this may work for some. So this could be fixed, let me know if you can do this. (BrowseApp)
b. Youtube content is mixed into playlists. (thanks, yottabit42) (BrowseApp)
c. Transfer of preferences and playlists doesn't work. Results in completely different music being selected in auto playlists, and even changes content of transferred playlists to have different songs. (thanks, yottabit42) (BrowseApp)
d. (Updated) No warning about adding duplicate songs. This may actually be resolved, daveyjones0017 notes that he did get a popup when trying to add a dupe song: https://i.imgur.com/b9cWwVI.png (thanks, SquishFaceMcGee and daveyjones0017) (BrowseApp)
e. When adding songs (videos) to a playlist from YouTube it plays a different version of the song that was added. (thanks, SquishFaceMcGee) (BrowseApp)

g. Can't select multiple tracks (batch-select) to edit playlist. (thanks, Gunsi73) (BrowseApp)
h. Can't sort playlist. (thanks, Gunsi73) (BrowseApp)
i. Moving tracks in a playlist not reflected in the "now playing" playlist. (thanks, Gunsi73) (BrowseApp)
j. Playlists missing tracks (greyed out) after YTM move. (thanks, Gunsi73) (BrowseApp)
k. Music video versions are swapped into playlists after YTM move. (thanks, Gunsi73) (BrowseApp)
l. Playlists are not sorted, or sorted incomprehensibly (e.g.,"Best of the 80s" and "Workout" side by side) (thanks, Gunsi73) (BrowseApp)
m. Can't save queue as new playlist. (thanks, OverKy) (BrowseApp)
n. Cannot add songs flagged as COPPA-compliant (presumably) to playlists. (thanks, ItsJackington) (BrowseApp)
o. No easy method to populate new playlists, no dragging and dropping. (thanks, OverKy) (BrowseApp)
p. There is no way to "clear queue." However, Nyrobee says to swipe down from Now Playing to do so. (thanks, OverKy & Nyrobee) (BrowseApp)
q. No queue editing in Android Auto. (thanks, potato-truncheon) (App)
r. Transferred playlists from GPM can't be used with downloaded tracks while offline. (thanks, ajkiwi) (App)
s. No way to auto-download old GPM playlist files to use offline. (thanks, ajkiwi) (App)
t. No more "instant mix" option, a smart playlist consisting of only uploaded songs, seeded from a song, artist, or album from your own collection. (thanks, PocketDeuces) (BrowseApp)
u. Relatedly, "Start radio" in YTM produces the same songs, not varied songs/artists in the style & genre, and no way to save the radio station for later. After a short time, it goes into apparent random mode in terms of genre. Relatedly, radio mix song selection in YTM is terrible, the algorithm seems to put random things unrelated to genre and tone. (thanks, techrob99 & Mr2-1782Man) (BrowseApp)
v. Can't hold and drag songs to reorder playlists, must enter separate edit mode. d (thanks, lithdoc) (BrowseApp)
w. Unlike GPM, YTM sorts songs, artists, albums, etc. without ignoring articles (a/n, the). (thanks, SoNowWhat) (BrowseApp)
x. YouTube playlists show up in YouTube Music app and deleting it from YouTube Music also removes it from the main YouTube app, leading to potentially catastrophic mistake deletions. (thanks, Dickcheese_McDoogles) (BrowseApp)
y. Can't shuffle your entire playlist unless you pick a song from your playlist and press the shuffle button on the album screen. (thanks, MomiBunBun) (BrowseApp)
z. Playlists end early (after 30-70 song). Also happens most noticeably on long playlists. (thanks, MadAuto, xternal7 and casgar49) (BrowseApp)
aa. No song number column in playlists. (e.g., https://i.imgur.com/aZc8jWn.png ) (thanks, ultyguy) (BrowseApp)
bb. Track numbers on double albums don't parse as separate discs, and instead track numbers are continuous. (thanks, XaiveyWavey) (BrowseApp)
cc. Can't remove/delete tracks from queue. (thanks, constantlymovingaway) (App)

4. Recommendations

a. Recommendations appear based on Youtube history. Youtube is a video sharing site, not a music site, so many recommendations are unhelpful. (BrowseApp)
b. Recommendations get “stuck” and cannot mark as "not interested," so they continue to appear even if not helpful. (thanks, OverKy) (BrowseApp)

5. Playback

a. Tracks play at different volume levels or low volume levels, so constantly having to adjust - may be exacerbated in casting. (thanks, Freddy_Barker, erikgser & Prior-Dark) (Presume BrowseApp)
b. Shuffling a large playlist of hundreds of songs will only play songs whose titles start with a small portion of the alphabet. (thanks, Uncle-Eevee) (BrowseApp)
c. Android Auto doesn't cache ahead, often leading to an error message displayed, or no Internet message displayed. Doesn't automatically resume when signal is restored. (thanks, yottabit42) (App)
d. Similarly, cannot download radio stations, causing playback interruptions as service disappears. (thanks, ryboto) (App)
e. Android Auto head unit plays at very low volume compared to all other media, including GPM, Deezer, Pocket Casts, etc. Occasionally the first milliseconds are at full blast before being clipped. Jarring and unsafe. (thanks, yottabit42) (App)
f. Playing via Bluetooth in my vehicle does not show track list and jumbles up song info from other songs. Note: Jocex says that setting AVRCP to version 1.3 in the developer Android options helps, but functionality is limited. (thanks, SquishFaceMcGee) (App)
g. Android Auto doesn't play correct playlists (e.g.,"Play Best of the 80s" and "Play my playlist Best of the 80s" result in some random 80s playlist) (thanks, Gunsi73) (App)
h. Can't shuffle All Songs. Shuffle appears to not shuffle all music, just first 20 or so tracks. (thanks, Gunsi73, Habeas and MNBug) (Browser)
i. Kid's music stops playing if you navigate away from the main player (apparently due to COPPA limiting YouTube's features). (thanks, Eli_PNW) (App)
j. No cross-fade and no gapless playback including when casting (cross-fade not in GPM, but desirable nonetheless). (thanks, doublemp & NefariousnessSolid87) (BrowseApp)
k. Doing anything on YouTube shuts down YTM music playback. (thanks, Overky) (Browser)
l. Severe incompatibility with Google Home and Google Assistant. Will not play uploads via Assistant, does not recognize the music as available. It doesn't understand what user is searching for (GPM never had this problem) . This and potentially crash issues may be related to feeding devices with YT video playlists. (thanks, Overky, aliencircusboy & avr91) (BrowseApp)
m. When casting to Android TV, playback usually crashes after a song or two with an error message. (thanks, PocketDeuces) (BrowseApp)
n. Music occasionally pauses by itself when playing back via Bluetooth, requires hitting the play button again. Does not happen in GPM. (thanks, Prior-Dark) (App)
o. After notification volume-duck while playing bluetooth, audio level doesn't return to normal.(Also present on GPM) (thanks, cosinedLoan) (App)
p. No play/pause functionality in chrome app. (thanks, mehs) (Browser)
q. If a song in a playlist gets deleted locally and can't be accessed remotely or replaced (e.g., because "stream only on wifi" is enabled), it stops your playlist (related to random deletion issue above in 2.dd). (thanks, puppetjax) (Browser (possibly), App)
r. Resets the song back to the beginning when starting radio from song. (thanks, braines98) (BrowseApp)
s. Playback of downloaded music stutters when a large number (e.g., 10,000) has been downloaded. (thanks, MNBug) (App)
t. No track metadata is displayed when playing offline in car with bluetooth. (thanks, farshman) (App)
u. No toggle to turn off the album cover as background in lock screen, unlike GPM. (thanks, Stepon525) (App)
v. No global autoplay toggle, requires a toggle for every playlist. (thanks, Agent_Tangerine) (BrowseApp)
w. Shuffling by artist appears to not actually randomize, just creates a predetermined playlist. (thanks, Agent_Tangerine) (BrowseApp)
x. YTM only has one widget that is 4 x 1 and I can not change it's size. (thanks, SammlerWorks) (App)
y. YTM keeps playing un-asked-for music on Google Home after just asking for one song, unlike GPM. (thanks, gooddoggooddog) (BrowseApp)
z. Android Auto often will say some songs "can't be played in the background," will have unavailable tracks in playlists, and the "next" button will disappear. (thanks, Daniel15) (App)
aa. Minimum volume is too loud, louder than GPM. (thanks, ZenKimchi) (BrowseApp)
bb. App closes when multitasking, killing playback. (thanks, casgar49) (App)
cc. When connecting to bluetooth while Chromecasting, app gets confused and bluetooth won't share sound until the app is killed and restarted. (thanks, casgar49) (App)
Update 8/20/2020: I will be sending this list to the various feedback locations for YTM and GPM this weekend. If you want to share this, please do so. You can also help by tweeting the list at any GPM or YTM product managers, etc. CoogleGhrome suggested T. Jay Fowler, head of YouTube Music ( https://twitter.com/tjayfowler ).
Update 8/23/2020: This has been posted on the YTM forums, here, if you want to subscribe or upvote the post: https://support.google.com/youtubemusic/thread/66629559?hl=en . You can also share this with Youtube Music's team by going to https://music.youtube.com/ , clicking your Profile Photo, and Send Feedback. It's also been tweeted at T. Jay Fowler. (update 9/7/2020: nimh20 tweeted at the Youtube team, who also told him to use the music.youtube.com feedback process. If you want to help get attention inside the YTM team, please Send Feedback using this method.)
Update 10/19/2020: Just FYI: I am still adding to this list, and will do so as long as people keep posting new issues.
If you publicize this list, please be polite - remember that the YTM workers are people too and presumably are trying their best in the framework they have.

2020.05.21 16:13 JasonBourne008 Comprehensive Community Wishlist

I've been working on a list for the past couple weeks now, based largely on suggestions from other people in the community
If you have any other suggestions you'd like to see added to this list let me know and I will add them in!
Coaching
  • Add offensive and defensive coordinators
  • Add positional coaches
  • All coaches should come with minor bonuses, and preferred formations and scheme fits
  • Convert retired players into coaches
  • Ability to hire coaches from the NCAA (even if they are auto-generated)
Rosters
  • Reformat the defensive front seven into outside defensive linemen, interior defensive linemen, edge rushers and linebackers
  • Nickel cornerback should be its own position, separate from CB
  • Auto subs and snap rotations need to be overhauled to be more realistic and easy to modify
  • Ability to move players on/off injured reserve for our custom created rosters
Trading
  • Too easy to acquire early round selections from AI teams
  • In season trade offers from other teams
  • AI controlled teams need to make more realistic (more enticing) draft day trade offers
Scouting
  • Complete overhaul by DeuceDouglas [Reddit Link]
  • Tweets and stories about a prospect should be accessible in the prospects page
  • NFL Combine, Pro Days
  • Hire regional scouts, with their own talents and limitations
  • Mock draft articles by community experts leading up to the draft
  • Overall strength of the draft class and highlights of which positional groups are strong, and which are weak
  • Enable scouting during the playoffs
Draft
  • Add supplemental draft
  • Add compensatory selections based on free agency results
  • See list of players who have been drafted
Offseason Training
  • Rookie Minicamps
  • Training Camps
Contracts
  • More realistic salary expectations for certain positional groups (especially RBs, WRs, and CBs)
  • Restructure contracts
  • Ability to front load, balanced, or back-load a contract
  • RFA and ERFA contracts
  • PPE (Proven Performance Escalator)
  • Post-June 1st trades and cuts
Free Agency
  • Free agents should have lower salary expectations, be willing to play on veteran minimum contracts
  • Ability to see a players stats before signing them
  • Players who are not signed should have their attributes regress slightly every week, and significantly if they do not play for an entire season
Player Personality
  • Holdouts over wanting a bigger contract
  • Players should request more playing time, more involvement in the offense, request to be traded or released
Player Ratings, Progression, Regression
  • Tone down the Superstar X-Factors a little
  • Increase XP rewards for on the field performance (and hitting certain season benchmarks)
  • Injuries should have a minor impact on player attributes
  • Player ratings should be more broad, akin to Football Manager’s one to five star system. What is the difference between a player with a rating of 72 vs 74? Effectively nothing, they should have the same rating.
Player Retirement
  • Players will inform you of their intention to retire
  • Keep a dedicated page on retired players with their stats and legacy details
  • Option to retire a players jersey number
  • Some retired players would go on to be coaches or scouts
Pro Bowl/All Pro
  • Notifications for Pro Bowl selections from your team
  • News article updating the Pro Bowl voting
  • Add All-Pro designations
Gameplay
  • Run blocking - players abandon their primary defender too early to try and block the second level
  • Improved zone pass coverage
  • Player intelligence about being near the sideline or goss as line has improved, but could still be better
  • Wide receivers drop the ball too often
  • Quarterbacks should miss more passes high and low, rather than being 10 yards off laterally (then you wouldn't need the WRs to drop passes)
  • Scripted events like blocked kicks and punts should not look scripted
  • Add a menu during play selection which show the user there favourite plays, or most frequently run plays (TexanWolverine)
  • Dedicate a button to show user random plays during play selection, prioritizing plays I’ve run less frequently
Game Presentation
  • Sideline players look terrible, please fix
  • Add referees back onto the field of play
  • Dynamic weather (overcast to rain, rain to snow, rain to sunny)
  • Cheerleaders
  • Coordinations behind the glass looking down on the field
  • Commentary isn’t terrible, just needs to be expanded out so we hear the same lines less frequently
  • Better songs and soundtracks in the main menu
Interfaces
  • Let users see which teams other players have played for during their past season, how many games played, how many snaps
  • Make menus more user friendly for PC, let users use the keyboard to enter values instead of using a slider
Franchise Mode
  • Ability to start a franchise (either as coach or as player) before the draft (Jeremy_Crow)
  • When I'm playing as a pro, I want the option to not call the plays. Breaks the immersion a bit that I need to do that (Jeremy_Crow)
Playbooks
  • All for more custom playbooks and formations
  • Recommend playbooks for each scheme
Relocations and rebranding
  • Add canned logos and names into the game intros, cinematics and commentary
  • Allow for customization on jerseys
  • More logo and name options for each potential city
  • Expanded stadium customization options
NFL restricted content
  • Concussions
  • Career ending injuries
  • Suspensions for performance enhancing drugs
  • Lower attendance if team is under performing, or lacks market share
  • Players getting into trouble with the law (including those coming out of college)

2019.12.01 20:34 Worst-To-Ever-Do-It Need help salvaging $1500-$2000 USD build I Frankenstein'ed together on my own.

This will be my first build (I have no experience with PC gaming or building). I have no idea what in the deuce I'm doing.
I need to squeeze a monitor, keyboard, and mouse into this budget. I will only be using this PC to watch streaming 4k naughty cams and gaming ( 7 Days to Die, PUBG, Overwatch, Rust, WoW, the Witcher series, AC:Odyssey, etc.) I checked around for weeks before coming up with this build. I'm wondering in what areas would my money be put to better use and then use that better use for the aforementioned parts/better performance.
I was drunk last night and bought the SSD, PSU, and CPU but Amazon hasn't shipped it yet so I still have time to cancel. :/ All help will be appreciated!

MAME 0.213

It's really about time we released MAME 0.213, with more of everything we know you all love. First of all, we’re proud to present support for the first Hegener + Glaser product: the “brikett” chess computers, Mephisto, Mephisto II and Mephisto III. As you can probably guess, there’s an addition from Nintendo’s Game & Watch line. This month it’s Mario’s Bombs Away. On a related note, we’ve also added Elektronika’s Kosmicheskiy Most, exported as Space Bridge, which is an unlicensed total conversion of the Game & Watch title Fire. If you haven’t played any of the handheld LCD games in MAME, you’re missing something special – they look superb with external scanned and traced artwork.
On the arcade side, we’ve added The Destroyer From Jail (a rare Philko game), and alternate regional versions of Block Out and Super Shanghai Dragon’s Eye. The CD for Simpsons Bowling has been re-dumped, resolving some long-standing issues. With its protection microcontroller dumped and emulated, Birdie Try is now fully playable. Protection microcontrollers for The Deep and Last Mission have also been dumped and emulated. Improvements to Seibu hardware emulation mean Banpresto’s SD Gundam Sangokushi Rainbow Tairiku Senki is now playable, and sprite priorities in Seibu Cup Soccer have been improved.
In computer emulation, two interesting DOS compatible machines based on the Intel 80186 CPU are now working: the Mindset Personal Computer, and the Dulmont Magnum. The Apple II software lists have been updated to include almost all known clean cracks and original flux dumps, and the Apple II gameport ComputerEyes frame grabber is now emulated. We’ve received a series of submissions that greatly improve emulation of the SWTPC S/09 and SS-30 bus cards. On the SGI front, the 4D/20 now has fully-working IRIX 4.0.5 via serial console, and a whole host of improvements have gone into the Indy “Newport” graphics board emulation. Finally, MAME now supports HDI, 2MG and raw hard disk image files.
As always, you can get the source and Windows binary packages from the download page.

Bell Blvd — 1.3
With my car nowhere in sight, I rapidly fell into a state of confusion. I took a look around, completing a full 360 — nothing. My keys were already in my hand, so I held down the panic button while raising the key fob towards the sky — still, nothing.
Had my car been stolen? I highly doubt that an old Mazda 6 would catch the attention of a car thief. Not to mention, students were always coming and going, and this would be a risky spot to steal a car.
My feelings of confusion quickly dissipated when I finally double checked the parking sign — it was prohibited to leave your vehicle there between the hours of 12 to 6. There are signs like that all over Queens, but I had grown up in Long Island where there are next to none. I didn’t even think to read it.
I was now certain that my car had been towed and impounded. I was pissed at myself. I felt like an idiot, but I didn’t have time to stress about it — I had to be at the Bell Blvd game in the next 25 minutes.
I immediately thought about calling Sal, surely it wouldn’t be a big deal if l explained the situation and told him that I would be 15 minutes late, right? I mean, I would be getting there at 6:15, and the game didn’t even start until 7.
I took out my phone and began to search through my contacts list for Sal’s number. I had recently upgraded my phone to a Blackberry Pearl, and I vividly remember how fast you could scroll using the tiny, smooth ball that rested in the center of the device. I had never owned a phone with a QWERTY keyboard, either. Back in 2008, Blackberry Messenger, or BBM for short, was wildly popular. It was buggy and it sometimes malfunctioned, but it was incredibly useful when it was working properly.
I suddenly remembered that Joey also had a Blackberry. He had given me his BBM pin at the frat house game after seeing me take my phone out to answer a text. He was also the only other person I knew who had a car. I quickly decided to call him.
“Hey Julius, what’s up bro?”
“Dude, what are you doing right now? Are you still at the University Center? I’m in a bit of a jam and I need your help.”
“Yeah, I’m still at the UC. What’s going on? You alright?”
“I’m a dumbass and parked my car in a restricted spot last night. Apparently you can only park here during the day.”
“Oh man, you must be near the main entrance with the black gate. Yeah dude, that’s a bad spot. Everyone who parks there gets towed.”
“I have to be at a poker game on Bell Blvd in 20 minutes. I’m dealing there tonight, I can’t be late. Can you give me a ride real quick? I know you wanted to check the place out anyway.”
“Sure, bro. I got you. Start heading over to the parking lot outside of the UC. I’ll see you in a few.”
“Fucking thanks dude.”
I end the call and begin to swiftly walk back to campus. While passing the main entrance gate, I say to myself, “Fuck it”. I decide that I have no time to waste and launch into a full-speed run. The UC was all the way on the other side of campus — easily a ten minute walk.
Sweating and out of breath, I make it to the parking lot and spot Joey. He’s waiting for me inside of his car. I open the passenger door and plop myself right inside.
“Bell Blvd! Go, now!” — Joey puts the car into drive and pulls out of the lot.
“Did you run all the way here?”
“Yes.” — I’m trying to catch my breath.
“But, why?” — Joey laughs while looking at the road.
“I really don’t want to be late. This is basically my first scheduled shift at this game.”
“So what? You can’t be a few minutes late? What are you gonna get fired?”
“Probably not, but this game is the fucking nuts, bro. I made almost $500 last time. I didn’t even start dealing until a little after 9PM.”
“No shit? You make that much from dealing?”
“Yeah, dude. I’m a solid dealer, but I’m not a professional. Lots of guys can do a better job than me.”
“So then why did you get the spot in the first place?”
“Well, one of the partners vouched for me. They know that I’m trustworthy and won’t steal or cheat.”
“That’s all?”
“The fuck do you mean ‘that’s all’? That’s everything! It’s ridiculously easy for a dealer to steal. All you have to do is put the rake into your tips or take an extra chip right out of the pot. You could even do both if you were bold and stupid enough. I also do all the bitch work without being asked.”
“Hmm... We’ll be on Bell Blvd in about 10 minutes. So could you teach me how to deal? I would kill to make that kind of money in one night.”
“Of course, but it takes a fair amount of time and practice until you’ll be able to get a spot anywhere. It might look easy, but you have to continuously pay close attention and stay focused for long periods of time. And no one is gonna let you deal cash until after you’ve dealt tournaments for a while.”
“Bro, I want to make $500 a night. I’ll do whatever it takes if you’ll teach me.”
“Well, okay then. Good. I will.” — Joey turns the car onto Bell Blvd.
“How far down is the place?”
“Just keep going straight, I’ll tell you where to snag a parking spot. It’s in the basement of Sal’s deli. I’ll bring you in and introduce you.”
We continue driving down Bell Blvd for about a quarter mile. Nearly approaching the outside of the deli, I alert Joey to find a parking spot. He finds a spot and puts the car into park. We exit the vehicle, and I insert two quarters into the parking meter — I immediately remember that my car had been towed. I didn’t have time to worry about it right now, I had to work and decided that I would deal with it later.
As we begin approaching the deli, I check my watch. It’s 5:58PM. Right on time. The deli was still open for business, it didn’t close until 8PM. Sal was at the counter, along with a few other employees.
“Julius! Good to see you, thanks for being on time. Who’s your friend?”
“Of course, Sal. This is my buddy, Joey. I’ve known him since high school. He also goes to school at St. John’s and he plays poker, too. My car got towed, so he gave me a ride here. I wanted to introduce you to him, he’s interested in playing here.” — Sal comes out from behind the counter and shakes Joey’s hand.
“Follow me, boys.”
Sal takes us downstairs into the poker room. He instructs me to start setting up my table for the game while he chats with Joey. I can’t say that I was surprised, but I had arrived before the other dealers. Being the first one there was important to me — I could tell that Sal took notice.
While sitting in the box at my table, I double check that both decks are suited and complete. I grab $300 worth of chips from the podium and put them into the well as a starting bank. I properly lammer the chips off, then grab a brush to clean the felt. I finish setting up the table by vacuuming with a dustbuster and wiping down the leather rail with some windex.
Joey finishes his conversation with Sal, and I thank him again for giving me a lift. He heads upstairs to leave, and I ask Sal if there’s anything else I can do to help.
“Table 2 is good to go, Sal. Is the fridge stocked up with drinks?”
“The fridge is already stocked. It looks like Joey is gonna come by later tonight to play. Is he good action?”
“He’s a solid player, definitely not easy money. He isn’t an action junkie, but I know that he could probably bring a few more players if he likes the way we operate.”
“I see. Okay, then. Do me a favor and tell him I’ll give him a $50 new player bonus if he comes tonight. I forgot to get his number.” — I take out my Blackberry and text Joey about the promo money.
“Done. What else can I do to help set up?”
“Come with me upstairs, I’ve got a half dozen trays of sandwiches you can help carry down.”
“Okay, cool. Let’s do it.”
Sal and I walk upstairs to fetch the sandwiches. It takes two trips, but eventually the food table is filled with a nice spread of various options. I pick out my favorite sandwich, rare roast beef with cheddar, and take a seat in the box at Table 2. Sal tells me that he has to finish up a few things upstairs and that the players will start showing up any minute. I’m eating the rest of my sandwich when I hear someone walking down the stairs — it’s Andy.
“Hey buddy, you ready for tonight?”
“Absolutely. I just finished setting up Table 2. Where are the other two dealers?”
“They’ll be here soon. Can you do me a favor and set up Table 1, as well?”
“Sure.” — I throw away my crumb filled plate and start to open up Table 1.
“By the way, where did you park? I didn’t see your car outside.”
“Yeah, about that — my car got towed last night. I parked in a restricted spot just outside of campus. Come to think of it, I don’t have any idea about how to get it back.”
“You have to contact the city and find out where they impounded it. It’ll cost a few hundred to get it back. Don’t worry about it, I’ll help you find it after the game.”
“Thanks, Andy. I had one of my friends give me a lift here. I think he’s coming back later tonight to play.”
“Awesome, that’s what I like to hear. I’ll tell you what — you can deal solo at Table 1 for the first hour, since the other guys are late. I’ll let Sal know right now.”
Andy runs upstairs and I finish opening up Table 1. About ten minutes later, both Sal and Andy sit down with $1k each in front of them. They ask me for a deck and start to play gin for $1 per point while we wait for the players to arrive.
One by one, the players start to show up. At this point, Sal was up a few bucks in gin, but it was time to get the game going. It was just after 8PM and we had 7 seats filled. Both of the other dealers had shown up by this point, and I could see that they weren’t happy about losing an hour of box time. Andy hands me the deck that was being used for gin, and I quickly suit it. I spread the now suited deck across the felt and double check that there aren’t any cards missing. It was time to get the cards in the air.
“Alright, guys. It’s time to play some cards. I’m going to deal for the button.” — I give the deck a wash, shuffle it, and deal out only one card.
“Ace of spades, that was easy. Seat 1 is the button. Blinds up guys, good luck.”
I deal until the top of the hour, totaling about 45 minutes. The next dealer taps me out, and I thank the players. The game was full by now, and there were 2 players waiting. Both Sal and Andy had given up their seats, which meant that they could help start the second table.
Sal instructs me to take a seat in the box at Table 2. He grabs chips for himself, Andy, and the other 2 players. He announces that it’s a must move game and starts a list, then asks the table if they want to start 4 handed or wait for one more player. They opt to start right away.
Several hours pass and my table is now 8 handed. Joey eventually makes an appearance and sits down with $700. Within his first orbit, he manages to flop a baby set and check-raise the river, only to get paid off by Kings. He scoops a pot of about $500, and I was happy to see him win. He starts stacking his chips and I begin dealing the next hand — no tip. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t expecting a red bird. After all, we were friends and Joey wasn’t a cheap guy by any means. Andy chimes in with a gentle reminder.
“Nice pot, man. You know the dealers accept tips, right?”
“Oh, shit. I completely forgot. Thanks for reminding me. I mostly play online.” — Joey tosses me a red bird. I tap the table with it, thank him, and put it into the well where my other tips were.
“No worries, it happens. I didn’t mean to sound like an asshole, it’s just that you’re young and some people don’t know to tip.”
“I appreciate it. I was so excited about winning that pot that it completely slipped my mind.”
The guy who lost that hand with his pocket Kings interjects.
“Yeah, hitting a 2 outer also gets me excited. It must be nice. You should give the dealer a bigger tip.”
Looking a bit puzzled, Joey throws me another red bird. Sal chimes in on the conversation.
“Joey can tip however much he wants. In fact, if you’re gonna whine about it, you should tip the dealer yourself. It’s $1 per minute for therapy sessions.”
The table laughs and the guy tosses me a buck, probably feeling obligated to do so. To this day, it still makes me feel uncomfortable when the loser of the hand tips me. It’s a slight, yet passive aggressive needle at the dealer.
A few more hours pass and both tables are full. I needed to take a leak at this point, I hadn’t taken a break since the game started. I tell Sal that I have to use the restroom, and he has the up dealer tap me out for a few minutes. I quickly return and get back in the box.
At about 2AM, Joey racks up and leaves for the night, profiting a cool $600 and change. He exchanges numbers with Sal before heading to his car. I overhear him telling Sal that he’ll definitely be back — I was glad that he had a good time, because it meant that he could potentially bring in more players. Word of mouth is the best way to recruit.
The main game was full at this point, but my table was now 5 handed. I could sense that we were probably going to break any minute — the game was on life support. As if he could hear my thoughts, Sal cuts the rake down to $5. This kept the table going for another hour or so, until one of the players eventually got stacked.
Both Sal and Andy were in the black, while the only remaining player was short stacked with about $200 in front of him. Before anyone can rack up, he makes a proposal.
“I’m ready to go home. You guys wanna do a $200 PLO flip?”
Sal and Andy look at each other.
“Why not? I’m in.” — Sal puts up two stacks of red.
“Winner tips the dealer $25.” — Andy tosses 2 black chips into the pot.”
I deal the three of them 4 cards each, then put out a complete board. They all decide to make it a sweat, turning over one card at a time. The board was paired with two Jacks, and the short stacked player is the first to turn over a card — he flips over a jack.
Sal goes next, turning over one card at a time until he can beat trips. He flips over his last card, but he can’t win. Andy gets to his 3rd card, revealing the only Jack left in the deck. He has a weak kicker at this point, but still has one card left, while the short stack has 3. Andy offers him a deal.
“Let’s chop it up. What do you say?”
“No deal.”
“Are you sure? I run good when it comes to flips.”
“I’m sure. No deal.”
The shortstack rejects the deal, waiting for Andy to flip over his last card. However, Andy points out that it’s actually the shortstacks turn, as he is playing trip Jacks with a Ten kicker. The shortstack flips over his other three cards — his final hand being trip Jacks with a King kicker.
Andy offers to chop one last time, but gets declined. He apologizes in advance anyway, only to reveal one of the outs he needed, a Deuce. He wins the flip with a full house — Jacks full of Deuces.
“MOTHERFUCKER! ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?”
“I told you, I run good in these spots.” — says Andy, as he drags in the pot and throws me $25.
“Fuck it, one more. $500 this time. At least give me a chance to win my money back.”
Andy looks at Sal, then shrugs his shoulders.
“Okay, but it’s just you and me. Sal’s not in.”
The player takes his wallet out of his pocket and puts five, crisp $100 bills onto the felt. Andy matches it in chips, and tells me that he’ll pay for the fine to get my car back, if he wins. You can probably guess who I was rooting for.
I deal them each 4 cards and put out the board. Andy wastes no time at all and tables his entire hand — he’s got the nuts, a nine high straight. The other player quickly looks at his hand, then throws his cards at me. I had to bite my lip so that I wouldn’t laugh, although I still half-smiled. Andy pockets the cash and scoops the pot, while the player storms out in frustration.
I had never really seen Andy gamble like that before — he had always warned me not to dust off money without having an edge. When I asked him about it later on, he said that the only reason he agreed to the flip was because the other guy was running so badly. It wasn’t the most scientific answer, but I understood his point.
The game continued on for a couple more hours, eventually breaking at around 5AM. I had already restocked the fridge, taken out the trash, and cleaned up Table 2. By this point, all of the players had left.
Sal calls me over to the podium and pays me out for the night — $650. He praises me for doing a good job and picking up the slack. I thank him, letting him know that I’ll be there for Wednesday night’s game. As usual, he confirms with me — “6PM sharp.”
I needed to return to campus and get some sleep, I had a class that would start in about 5 hours. I could always blow it off though, after all it was only an “Intro to C++” course. If you don’t know, C++ is a programming language — I was already quite fluent in PHP, another language, which is pretty similar in syntax. I had also been coding in Visual Basic and Delphi for about 5 years. Besides, the professor really didn’t do much, other than parrot the textbook, and I had already read ahead of where we left off in class.
I was about to call a cab when Andy grabbed my attention.
“You ready to go get your car back?”
To be continued...
